Hello and welcome to the rest of Football Daily Brightness. We've made it to the final
episode of our Euro 22 Rewind series and we have got a treat in store for you. If you didn't
catch the semi-final episode or indeed any of the others from the 2022 tournament head
back and listen to those first.
You'll find them all on the daily brightness feed.
Right, Bestie, we left the listeners at the end of the last episode,
recounting that emphatic 4-0 win over Sweden.
Let's talk about post-Swedon heading into the final.
Unbelievable.
Do you know what?
Springs to mine straight away, doing that dance,
I remember we'd always do that same dance.
Me and Jill would do this dance,
then we'd go around and we'd spot our families out in the crowd,
and then we'd go and have our debrief.
I just remember that that was such like a distinct moment for me,
like realizing you're going around cheering with the fans
and were like, holy shit, we're actually in the final.
Like, it was like a pinch me moment.
It was like, it can't be real, can't be happening.
That was probably the first time
where we got a bit of a glimpse of like how excited the fans around us were
because it was popping at Bramore Lane on it.
It was ridiculous.
And then I remember...
Popping off.
It was popping off.
And then I remember getting back to Lensbury.
I don't think we slept that night
No and everyone was just like
Oh my God you're in the final
Like everyone was so gas for us
I think yeah that's when you probably got
A first bit of a taste of like
Oh my God
We could do something here
Because I think regardless
Like win or lose
The nation was so proud of us
And that was what we set out to do
We were in the final
We've inspired the nation
We've inspired the next generation
That was our main mission
Going into this whole tournament
We had like a bit of a pinch me memory
I remember I remember sitting in the room
Being like
Hey we're in the final
what the hell?
Yeah, we were like, what the hell?
But don't you think it was weird?
Like, after that night,
we kind of woke up as if we'd not made the final
and it was like back to business.
It was back to normal routine.
Wake up, go to wellness, get your breakfast,
go to recover it.
Those that didn't play, trained,
we'd cheer them on, we'd have a laugh,
we'd go play basketball.
And then it was like,
we were just on a normal schedule.
It was like we'd not made a final.
Yeah.
But the night before we were like,
holy shit, we were in the final
and we were like, couldn't sleep
and we were buzzing.
No, I remember.
I remember the best, the funniest thing, because we stayed at Tottenham's training ground, didn't we, the night before the final.
Yeah, that's what I remember.
We were so, yeah, we were so excited because we were like, as much as we loved the lens, but it was like, just a change of scenery for the night.
It was like, yeah, we got there and it was like this beautiful hotel, but it was, it was all like a smart room.
Unbelievable.
So I remember trying to get into the river, I'm like, well, how did you turn the lights on?
There's no switch.
I'm like, oh, like, where is it?
everything's controlled by like an iPad or something wasn't it yeah I couldn't find the
how you open the curtains like but the funniest thing was right I'll never forget this
we woke up that morning and we got and we got to breakfast and everyone I was like
anyone's curtains open in the middle of the night and there was so many of us were like
oh my God literally night before the final I'm like it's like we're
away from her here, like, someone, do you know, and you're like, you think, oh, you're the away team.
Like, if that happened to Germany, like, maybe we've set their blinds to open at three o'clock
to wait them up.
Like, that's what it felt like.
I'm like, why are all of us awake at like three or four in the morning?
Because all of our blinds are just going, meh.
I just slept for everything, though.
Mine must have been going open like this throughout nine.
I didn't even notice.
Shock I woke up.
I was laying there and I was like, is it morning?
Like, is this like a private alarm that happens and they just opened the curtains for you?
Because no joke, literally, I was laying there, and I thought, it's that noise?
Everyone in the team was like, oh God, you and Jill, you and Jill cracked me up that morning.
We were like, shocked.
It's the morning of the final.
We're playing at Wembley, again, Germany, and the blinds are going off at 3, 4 o'clock in the morning.
I couldn't believe it.
I was like, how, how's that happened?
But anyway, that was, again, it was like another story to tell, add it to the list.
But then I will never, ever, ever, ever forget the moment that after breakfast, we went and sat in your room.
No, I was in my room.
next door to you
and I sat there
and I was getting ready
and I thought
because we always did this
didn't we got ready
and then one of us
would knock on for the other one
or we'd have five minutes
before we left the room
and I came into your room
earlier than we
were going to leave
mine's always always
it's disco room in it
you just follow the music
no but we sat there quietly
first
what was our song
we had a song that we played
every game
Unstoppable by Sia
I remember sitting at the end
of your bed
and we both ended up
standing up on that
like bench thing
just absolutely screaming
our lungs off singing
and then we just stopped
and I was like
we're going to Wembley
in 10 minutes
to go play in the final
and we were just like
in disbelief weren't we?
Is this real?
But we did that the night before
we had a cup of team
you turned to me
and you said
Mill we could be looking back
and telling our children
me and your mum's
won like the Euros
at Wembley
and that's what we said to each other
the night before you turned to me
and you was like
we could be telling our kids
that we've won the Euros
and it was like
we could be European champions
and I think that's the first time
we'd ever spoke about
anything like that wasn't it
like we never ever spoke about
like going on
and winning it or never
and then the night before
it was like well it's here now
like why yeah
we kind of like let ourselves
like look into that
a little bit
whereas before it was just like
I've just literally just got
goosebumps then
it's crazy
that was such a good memory
all right just before we get into the game
itself, we're going to go for a quick break and discuss the actual match. This episode is brought
to you by Tinder. People think the dating is to just find the one mill, but I think there's so much
more to it than that. We spoke about it before about, you know, you have a soulmate in life, but you
have a sole best friend and you're my sole best friend, as you know. I don't think it should be
looked upon as just a dating app. You might want just a companion or, you know, you could have
an unexpected friendship blossom. I think it's quite small-minded just to think of it as, oh, I have to
find like a, it's a relationship I'm looking for. Like, no, it's, you could find a
friendship and that could be someone that you're relying for the rest of your lives. I think
we've heard a lot of success stories from Tinder, from people in relationships and stuff, but
like you said, it's not just about that. It's about, you might not get on with them romantically,
but they might become your best friend or someone that you can go to the pub with and have a drink
with or go do a pub quiz with. So I think there is a lot of success behind that as well. It's not
just finding the one. Yeah, as you say, Tinder is for all types of connections. And it works
because on Tinder, a new relationship starts every three seconds
from slow burners to instant sparks.
Wherever it takes you, it starts with a swipe.

Welcome back, everyone, to the rest is football.
Daily brighteners.
We are now going to get into the grand finale,
which is the day of the final.
Playing at Wembley against Germany when we won.
Rach, what a day.
What a day.
Oh, what a day.
Oh, what a day?
Everyone says, like, oh, were you nervous?
What was it like walking out in, like, in front of 87,000 fans?
And honestly...
Incredible.
We were warming up.
We were warming up together, don't we do a little pass?
And you said something to me, and I was like, I can't hear you.
Do you remember?
And we were trying to talk to you to them.
We literally couldn't hear a word you were saying, and you were literally...
Let's put it in to bring it to light for the people listening.
Me and Rachel used to do passing together, and we do like little, you know,
where you bop it on,
you call it a pancake
and then you do two-touch.
We were literally five yards
away from each other.
Five yards.
And this girl's screaming back at me,
I can't hear you.
And I was like,
I can't hear you.
Literally try to like,
talk to you like,
how are you feeling?
I remember that in the game.
That was like the one thing
that I remember is like I couldn't hear much at all.
You couldn't hear anything.
Everyone were looking at each other like,
cross it
shoot
whip it
oh I have Chloe
I have me that was listening
and Chloe
whip it
whip it
oh my God
why did we do that
I actually need to find out
that story why we started that
I can't remember
whip it
but yeah that was my distinct memories
He's like not being, I remember, because obviously I was playing left back
and I was near Serena at one point.
I was like, I can't hear you either.
I was like, what?
Not Ray's giving Gaffer some stick.
Oh, God, it was too funny.
Everyone was like, what did she say?
I don't know.
We were like, pass it on.
We got some info.
Oh, God.
But what a game that was.
like, like, it was, there was chances both ends.
Yeah.
Well, they didn't have a pop dropped out, didn't she, in the war?
But everyone was like, Pop, like, drop it.
But.
Yeah, I think that was the talk of the pregame, wasn't it?
Oh, Pop's not playing.
But do you know what?
I was a bit gutter, you know?
I was so, I was so pumped to, like, play against, like, she's such a beast.
Like, she's such a hard striker to defend.
And I was like, this is it.
These are the moments.
You want to win whilst the best are on the pitch.
like playing up against one of the best strikers and she was like their biggest threat.
She's all we spoke about and she's their target.
And then she didn't play.
I was like,
oh,
I was a bit like,
I really,
really wanted you to play.
Like,
I was so ready for like that challenge and,
and to play against her.
And it's actually quite nice playing against a striker that I can actually go in like
proper hard on like with a 50-50.
Yeah.
But I know there was so much talk about that just before.
And we were like, okay,
whatever.
Don't matter.
Move on.
We're prepared.
They've still got unbelievable players.
It's fine.
Exactly.
But it was so calm.
Like, I just remember it.
Like, the change of room was chilled.
Bit airy, because I was like, we're in the final, but like, everyone's just the same.
It does make me worry sometimes, you know, when you're playing in a massive game and, like, it's a little bit quiet.
But it weren't quiet, like, nervous, quiet.
Everyone were just doing their own things.
Some had headphones on.
Same as normal, isn't it?
It was just the same.
But you do start getting your head and you think, oh, God, do we need to pump it up a bit?
Do we need to, like, me and you were always dancing or doing a little.
jiggle or whatever. But yeah, it did
it was a little bit eerie like you said
and even, I remember now exactly
what I felt in that lineup like when we stood
there waiting to go out at Wembley
one of the best stadiums like one of my
favourite stadiums to play in and you
could just feel like the noise
of the fans like it was honestly
electric and then all smokes
going off, flames are coming up
and I think I just kept looking round at you
and we were probably like giggling some of
she was very normal
on it. It was just so
bizarre like it was
yeah it was crazy
when I think about that game
like Tune's goal
ridiculous
the pass from Kira
nah
like honestly
as soon as she put it through
it was Tuni I was like goal
no problem
I absolutely sprinted to
I've never ran so fast in my life
I was absolutely gassed
even when they scored though
but that goal was insane
yeah even when they scored it is
you just felt that feeling didn't you
you were just like
no one panicked
we were just like, I was annoyed because I was like,
fuck, like, as a defender,
you never want to concede and I was like,
but then you instantly move past it like
and I've been in games where teams have scored
and I've thought, oh shit,
this is going to be tough to come back from.
But when that went in, we were just like,
all right, get the ball go again.
And the last five minutes felt like an hour.
I was like, keep that ball in the corner.
Like, and I just kept looking across it Leah
and I was like, we better defend for our lives.
And we were just like, keep it there,
but it felt the five minutes was the longest five minutes I've ever, ever felt in my life.
It was weird, wasn't it? Because obviously it got, when it went to extra time, I was,
I was off the pitch then because I got brought off just before the full time. And I was thinking
to myself, I can't do this. Like, I can't mentally sit here with this stress and literally
on the edge of my sit. I was just like, oh my God, oh my God, oh, God, oh, God. And I remember sitting
and I was just like, I was nervous, but I knew we were going to win,
but I was like, when's it going to come?
When's it going to come?
When's it going to happen?
And then the 110th minute, honestly, but from, as a sub-perspective, like, from the bench
at Wembley, I, like, didn't know it had gone in at the time.
I was just like, it was like a bit of a scramble, wasn't it, how Chloe put it in?
Yeah. To be fair, well, Chloe was waiting for ages to choose, is it a goal, is it a goal?
And we were all, like, looking around, like, do we celebrate?
What is it?
And then when it got, like, said that it was a goal, fuck, did we go off?
And then the shirt came off.
Woo!
Yeah.
Iconic.
Get it off.
Absolutely iconic.
It was just, and I've never felt a stadium like that.
It erupted.
Absolutely erupted.
I can't stop getting goosebumps.
This is mad.
I couldn't breathe after that.
I honestly could not breathe when that goal went in.
And then I was like, my God.
Then we just did an absolute master class of time wasting.
Literally.
I ran that clock down for 10 minutes.
Put that ball in the corner.
Keep it there.
This is what we're good at.
It was amazing.
Incredible.
And then I remember, obviously, when the whistle went,
we just looked at each other and started crying, didn't we?
I couldn't believe it.
Just dropped to my knees.
I was just flooded with, like, tears.
Like, it was just emotion.
Like, holy shit, like what we achieved,
we all knew that when we won,
it weren't just a medal.
It weren't just silverware.
We'd change the whole nation.
Like, we'd...
Yeah, it wasn't just for us.
It was for everyone there.
Yeah.
Everyone in the country.
It was just like, yeah, it felt like history.
Way bigger than just a trophy, like way bigger than any trophy you've ever lifted.
Like, because we'd always said throughout the tournament, like you said,
it was always about inspiring the next generation, creating a legacy and then, like,
building something for the next generation and changing the country,
like changing perspective of women's football and women in general and women in sport.
And we did that.
Like, there's nothing that's more powerful than that.
Like, you're not just winning a medal.
And that's why it was so special.
even watching the girls win this time round
it was more than just a medal
for so many reasons
personal reasons
like outside reasons
and that's what hits you as a player
like you're like
every time you look at that medal now
it's like all those little special moments
or whatever it might be is attached to it
it did it felt like a bit of a turning point
didn't it? It was so nice
than obviously seeing your family up there
like when you're getting your trophy and stuff
it was like such a nice feeling
but then came to celebrate
Oh, get on the beers. We were straight on it. And then, yeah, we did. We just went back to the Lensbury, didn't we? All the family and friends came and they were allowed to be with us and we just had a big after-party, which was really nice. I just loved that they allowed family and friends to come back and then we all celebrated with them. Like, that was one of my favourite things. And it was nice for them to, like, see fully, like, where we'd been staying and, like, where we'd been for the last, like, eight weeks, six weeks. It was, it was a really nice moment that.
Yeah, it was. It was so, so.
nice
and then there was
the next day
obviously that was
bad because we'd
obviously parted
all night
and we were like
everyone has to be
up out the door
by 9 o'clock
like
and I remember
going into that
meeting room
and we were all
just sat there
and we had to
get on the bus
and go to
Trafalgar Square
and like
be present
in front of all the fans
Rachel that night
Jill Scott did not
have a room
she stayed in my room
when I tell you
we were laid in my bed
at 5am
I just got a shower
and came out
and Jill there
and she started rapping
she made
rap like I remember people sleeping in the hallways there were people being sick Jill had no room
she was like Millie I've got a room so we're going to have to get in bed I was in Jill's room
that's why she had no room because my brother was in my room and his mate I remember that
yeah yeah to Jill came with me and at 5m we literally didn't have an ounce of sleep not a wink
asleep and she sat there she's like she would make a wrap up and I'm like well yeah if you
want to and then we went to Trafalgar Square yeah but we all had sunglasses on for
a very good reason.
Oh yeah.
I don't know how we even managed to get through that day, to be honest.
And then Leah threw me onto the stage to sing.
Absolutely.
I was like, no, not here.
Absolutely not.
Yes, best do it.
And then your backup dancer.
M, did you see that Chloe and Lucy did our dance?
Yeah.
Oh, that was so good.
That was one of my favourite days, that.
Insane.
And I love that, like, they did it again.
And then, oh, Serena and Burnaboy, by the way, how funny?
Her face was a picture.
Because those of you that don't know, like,
Serena absolutely loves Burner Boy, don't she?
Do you remember when we were on the music and she was,
she told her how she went, can we have some Burner Boy?
I was like, what?
We were like, yeah, if you want to.
But I half thought she were joking,
but she actually does love him, like, she's a proper fan.
She's been to, like, his concerts with her daughter, aren't she?
Yeah.
That was sick, though, like watching those celebrations.
And I was like, oh my God, get me up there.
I want to be partying with the girls.
It was so sick.
That was a good day, wasn't it?
It was a memory that, like a core memory, I think, that we'll keep forever.
But what an experience.
Like, I hope you've all absolutely loved us relive in that moment.
Because, honestly, talking about it with you and, like, doing these episodes has been, like,
so nice to actually, like, relive it.
And you remember some of the things that you...
Exactly.
You talk through some of the things that you don't always remember.
It's really nice.
I've loved it.
So hope you guys.
have absolutely loved it. It's been an emotional journey. We live in our Euro 22 win. We hope
