Hello everyone.
Welcome to Daily Brightness.
We are back.
me and my lovely bestie.
We have got a fun-filled episode for you,
all things football and Christmas, of course.
But first, our check-ins, bestie, how are you?
Yeah, I'm good, I'm good.
Can't complain.
You know, obviously, good one on the weekend for us,
which we'll talk about later.
You've had a bit of a big week, haven't you?
Yeah, big week, a busy week.
We've had a lot of travelling this week.
I'm on minimal sleep today.
Champions League, let's just like go step by step.
How was that?
Obviously, travel to Austria, talk us through it.
Big, massive win.
Six-nil.
Yeah, it was absolutely freezing.
I'll tell you that for free.
I watched a 2-0 and I thought, oh, it's going to be a white war.
Yeah, to be fair, we absolutely dominated the game.
But it took us a while to get the goals going, to be honest.
Yeah, but I think that's been a bit of a story of your season.
Yeah, I know.
And if you look at stats, like, shots on target we had for only six goals,
we're kind of like saying, oh, we want more.
but listen it's 6-0 it's a clean sheet
I think in the new format
it was mega important that we've got to win
but also goal difference might matter
like goal difference might come into play
so you don't think that like as a player
especially as a forward group
that constant commentary
and that constant narrative of
oh he's just not really converting much
is a pressure because I feel like if I was
yeah I know I've been a part of teams
when it's like we need to score and he's scoring his score
and it's like well yeah but we're conceding
so we're not winning you know so it's like
you kind of have like
back and forth but like you guys have you're always like right up there and you always create
so much but obviously haven't converted as much as you've created so I think yeah I do worry about
your forward group because you can create as much as you want but if it hasn't fallen like
you know what it's like if it falls to your left foot and it hits the post like it's a very
close chance you're not doing anything less than what you're used to doing but it's so much like
pounding on you being like oh you need score you need score you need score you need score I think that
actually builds up more pressure.
Yeah, and listen, I think we've been in this place before,
and I think it's just managing the expectations.
And also, I do think there's a habit where you can be looking at games
and, like, even me there straightway, I'm like,
we've had X amount of shots on target, and we've only scored six goals.
But it's hard not to be like that when you're at a club like Chelsea,
when our expectations are so high, and we look at stats,
and I think in your head you're thinking, okay, well, if that's a,
you know, a team that's not sitting in a low block
and are going to start threatening us, it's much harder.
Like, we absolutely dominated the game.
But against other teams in the Champions League,
you might not dominate the game.
So you might only get two or three big chances,
so you need to convert.
But also, I think at the same time, it's like, okay,
if you look at, okay, take Champions League out of it,
like you look at the league right now, you're sitting second, right?
Which is probably alien to you.
But if you win 1-0 or you win 7-0, what's the difference?
If I'd rather win 1-0 than 6-1,
because I'd hate conceding.
Yeah, exactly.
but I think as well
it's like
the only thing is
is when you strive
for more goals
at 1-0
you keep a team in it
like take our game
against Arsenal
if we
we could have scored
it first two minutes
we had like
so many big chances
that we should have
absolutely buried
but because we don't take
them chances
we've left a minute
and then it's 1-1
and then in actually
they could have ended
the game winning
do I mean
the game could have gone
two ways
we could have won
they could have won
like we both created
yeah but I also think
that that's like
where it becomes a bit of a problem
because if you lose to one
people would say
oh you're just letting in too many
Yeah
Listen you can never win
There's like counteract
It's like it all sort of counteracts itself
But I just think that like
Yeah
For us as players
All we see is points on the board
Yeah
Like no one gives a shit
About how many you put past someone
Listen we've been part of the England team
that won 20 nil one time
It's three points on the board
At the end of the day
I don't enjoy like 20 nil like
No exactly
I don't think that's good for the game
I don't think highest
scoring games are good for the game.
No. Like, if I'm honest.
Guys, so, so sorry. I've had to move
because I don't understand. I don't understand it.
I've gone from E to Sky.
I literally have thought by the best Wi-Fi in the neighbourhood
but clearly something's wrong. So I've had to move.
Well, firstly, guys, to anyone listening, she's lying
because what she wanted to do is bring the festive spirit in
because if you look behind her,
Santa Claus coming and tell.
I really just wanted to sing that line
What we were
We were saying about high scoring games
And I actually said I don't believe high scoring games
Good for the game
No, it's not
But I was also saying
The only time having been at the
In a title race
The only time scoring a lot of goals
Is really important
Is when you need to like
When the points are like dead even
And I do think you obviously
Can win a league on goal difference
We've done it previously
it and that is the only thing.
But I agree, I think sometimes we're so fixated on,
oh my God, that needs to be 4-0, 5-0.
And I think we've felt that this week,
we've been a little bit critical on ourselves,
like in meetings, we've come out of it.
And as a group, we're like, okay, we need to, you know what?
It was a good performance.
We've won, and that's it.
But I just think it's also hard when you're so used to, like,
winning and pushing and always needing to be better
and always thinking of the next opponent,
it's like a habit, you're always thinking,
oh, need to score that, should have scored that,
this needs to be better, that needs to be better.
where sometimes just appreciate that we've won.
I agree.
But sorry, my eyes were going because Penilla Harder's just scored at the most weird goal
against Arsenal to make it 2-2 in.
What's that minute?
What's that minute?
Two-two. Hold on a second.
Is it 2-2?
Eighty-one, yeah.
Harder just scored like the most.
It came out of nowhere.
She kind of like, she chipped the keeper.
It's like a slow-mo.
I did see Pete warming up her, warming up at half-time.
And listen, she's an incredible player.
Like, she was fantastic for Chelsea.
Baller, mate.
Absolutely.
Always are so good.
But good time to score.
Love a little bit of live.
Yeah, sorry.
I'm literally like,
I feel like I'm literally at the game.
Oh, so what minute is it on?
Sorry, I'm like well intriguing now.
2-2 at 82.
I feel like I'm going to be a bit like a Spanish
commentator coming in and be like,
you were just talking.
I'm like,
Golo, Golo, Golo, Golo.
So we can move on in the podcast,
but I'm going to be like the commentator.
That's fine.
Let's move on slightly to the fact that
all we ever seem to do in this podcast
is just hype you up
because of all these acclades
you can get.
No, stop, I don't like it.
I don't like it.
I love it.
Best it, I like to live under my rock
and that's where I like to be.
Can you just, uh...
Sit there and be quiet for a minute
while I just gash you up.
210 appearances in the WSL
tied with Jordan Knobbs,
little peanut.
That's so cute.
Literally like two of my favorite people
tied for the all time
I love our little journey.
Look at you, stop interrupt.
I've just told you, just like, rain in for a minute.
I'm trying to deflect.
I'm deflecting.
Massive achievement, Bill.
Like, you've got to be gas about that.
I just, I don't know where people get these stats from
and I don't know how people keep track
because they just keep popping up out of nowhere
and I'm like, what the hell?
But, yeah, it makes me feel old though.
I'm like, Jesus, I've been around a long time.
But I'm still only 32, I'm not that old.
But that's what I mean, like you're not that old
in relation to,
how many appearances you've had.
Like, that's such like a rare feat.
Like, thinking about how many people have played in the WSL
and have had contributed that many games
and still, you and Jordan, both of you are 32.
It does make me proud, though,
because I just think that's always something
when I first signed for Chelsea,
like I always wanted to be reliable.
I wanted to always be available,
always be reliable,
and I always wanted to be, like, remembered.
Like, when I leave the game,
I want people to remember, like, what I did in the game,
like on the pitch and off the pitch.
I remember having a conversation with Jordan
when she'd broke the record last year
and I was just like,
mate, that's like that's such an amazing achievement.
The amount of people
that have played in the WSL
like there is hundreds and hundreds and hundreds
of people that have actually appeared in the WSL
but to make the act the most
is that's a rare feat
and oh
what's going, go la, go la, go la, go la, go la, go la, go la.
Fires.
Three, two.
Holy shit.
Hold up, hold up, hold up.
What the hell?
Who's scored?
Bestie, come on, I need some commentary.
Wait, wait, we're just flying the flags.
Bear with me.
I'm trying to concentrate on you on this game,
so I didn't see who's got.
Forget me, I need the commentary.
We need the commentary.
What a game.
Fair play to them, though,
because being two nil down against Arsenal
and the Champions League
against one of the best teams in the world.
Yeah, exactly.
Fair play, like, but I think that buying
a bit a little bit like that, though,
a bit up and down.
but fair play coming back from that
that's not easy
Golo Gola Gola Gola Gola Gola
I literally feel like I'm like the Spanish
commentator
That's my
You just need to talk really fast now
And like be commentating on the game
Anyway back to Millie Bright
Massive massive massive achievement
And that's something like no one
No one will ever take away from you
Like people might overtake you
But I think you're overtaking a record
Like that you set
And that's like
I literally remember having this conversation
Because obviously Jordan sat next to me
the change rooms last year
and I was like
like George
I don't think you realize
how big this is
and like
I don't think people appreciate
I think especially like
in the modern game
like a lot of people
don't really appreciate
like where it came from
like I think we appreciate
where it came from
because we kind of like a crossover
it's a bit of a hybrid
yeah exactly
we're in sync
we both said hybrid
it was like a hybrid
from
the game was kind of nowhere
and then it went to somewhere,
whereas I feel like a lot of the younger players now,
no disrespect to them,
but they've come in at a fantastic time
where the game is everywhere.
100%.
And I don't think people really realise
what Jordan has achieved.
I'm like, we're looking around in this room
and I'm like, this girl has won almost everything.
Like, she's a serial winner.
Like, she is one of the best, like, of all time.
She set the standards.
Yeah, and like one of my closest friends,
followed by my bestie.
Like, yes, give me that all day long.
But I am really proud of you again and again and again.
Anyway, swiftly moving on.
What are you eating?
Two and gum.
How are you going to say that, Mowams or pinballs or something?
No, oh my God, I ate all the pinballs earlier.
Oh, by the way, guys, let's just quickly do.
Favorite sweet go, mine would be little nerds or pinballs.
I used to bring you a pack of pinballs every camp, didn't I?
Every camp.
What's your favourite sweet go quickly before we do football?
Mine are.
You know, like, there's, you know,
You know the strawberry pencils, not the laces,
like pencils with a white thing inside.
So you can get them in Candy King in the Pick and Mix.
Fat ones, like the short fat ones,
with sugar around them.
That's the one.
That is the one.
Like, watch out Candy King.
You've got a local hand grabbing.
You know, you were a kid and you went to the cinema.
Did you have a paper pick-a-mix?
No.
I always say, try before you buy.
Yeah, like no one's buying fudge
because it's like four pounds of block of fudge.
Do you know how expensive pick-mix is now?
You can spend about 20 quid on it.
Yeah, but to be fair,
I actually think it's better now than it was
because there was no cups back then.
So you would fill your bag
and like, as a kid, you just fill it, don't you?
You don't realize about the weight.
So you started to learn like,
oh, I can't have a fudge,
or I can't have those ones that I like
because they're heavy.
So my bigger mix bags when I was a kid,
it used to be like flying sauces,
cola bottles,
strawberry laces, like all the thin, light things.
And then my pockets would be full of like,
Fudge.
Remember Fredos, though?
Used to be 10p.
Do you know how much they are now?
It's a joke.
It's ridiculous.
It's a joke.
But what I do like about Pickermicks now is it's cups.
So it's not by weight.
It's about the size of the cook.
So I'm like shoving that shit.
Yeah, but to be honest, I do like the bags
because it reminds me of being a kid.
There's no gaps in my cup.
Let me tell you, every hole is filled with a sweet.
Every hole's gone.
Rachel.
God.
And the podcast is.
just taking a turn down a new lane.
Here we go.
Anyway, back to football.
Completely gone off topic.
Your game, we've discussed mine.
Could have gone either way.
We just, yeah, but it's not the worst result in the world.
We're still in a good place.
Yours, fantastic result for you.
Yeah, surely you,
surely you, after your not so pleasing result against Arsenal,
like, draws against the top team,
I'm sure you'll take it, but you obviously always want to win.
Oh, yeah, 100% you want to win.
I hope you turned your phone on and went,
Fucking hell, Biller would beat Man United.
I went, go on, bestie.
She's at it again.
Do you know what?
Secret agent.
Really, really good win.
Really good win, obviously.
What was the game like?
Because obviously I didn't get to watch it.
So talk me through it.
I like, obviously, prior to this, a week before,
I'm like gassing Man United up in the podcast.
Man United.
They've been playing amazing, haven't they?
Yeah, they are.
Obviously, I always want us to win.
But I was kind of excited to see, like, live,
what they were like this year because
I haven't obviously
I've seen them on telly
but we said about this though
it's all right getting to the top
but how long can you maintain your levels for
that's the hardest thing is a long season
but like I was watching it
and I was thinking but like
we've talked about this
like we seem to show up really a lot
against the top teams
so like yeah
yeah we got beat by you right
but you said it's one of your hardest games
like we always one of the hardest games
was last year
another beaters last year
we drew with Arsenal
we haven't had City yet
and United like
I don't know what
I just love playing City as well.
Yeah, I don't know what it is, but I was like,
I went into this game going like, we're going to win.
Like, I hope you all believe this because I can shout you all from the rooftops
from the bench, but like, you're going to win.
You need to believe it, yeah.
What do you think that is, like when you play, when you, is it done?
Three, two.
Yeah.
What a comeback, that is, by the way.
Yeah, I know.
I don't know.
Like, I think, like, there's obviously a mentality shift when you play the top teams.
It's always like, oh, come on, like, let's give them a hard game.
But I don't think I've ever.
really had that, I've always, like, approach every game the same.
And I do actually think that most of the girls feel the same.
Like, they're just very much like, oh, every game is the same, like, we just want to win.
Yeah.
But I don't know if this is, like, unspoken thing of, like, upsetting a top team.
And I think that's kind of how we've always been.
Like, since I've been at Villa, it's always kind of been that way.
But I don't think we've really got to see, I don't think everyone's really got to see how good we can be.
I feel like you've been on a journey, though.
Yeah, obviously buzzing Mary's God.
Mary scored a nice goal.
And obviously, Man United, they didn't record,
they didn't have one shot on target in the first half.
Everyone will say, like, Man United played poor, right?
But I think it's an...
Yeah, but I hate when people do that,
just because the top team dropped points.
You have to give credit to the team that's won.
Like, yeah, they might not have been at the best,
but you can't discredit you guys.
We also probably made them play poor.
Like, we...
Yeah, I don't like when big teams kind of get shafted a little bit
and just been like, oh, they just had a bad game.
no, give credit where credit's due.
It was a bit of a weird one
because I don't think anyone was really on top
it was quite even in terms of like possession
and stuff like that.
It was kind of bit back and forth
but back and forth to the point
where it wasn't really low to chances
like we had a really, really good chance
in the first half before the goal
you know, it's a great, great opportunity to score
but then we scored that
and it was like I think like you saw
like us kick on like it was like a new lease of life
and like we just started to believe then
and the flip side of us going like
we want to beat top teams
there's probably an element
an element
of top teams thinking
like whether you think it or not
but like again it's like that unspoken thing of
oh we're going to win this
see I can hand on heart
take to my grave that we have never
ever said that you know why because I mean
I don't think you say it
like I don't think we like we don't say
oh we're going to beat these
because they're a top team like we don't speak about it
we like approach every game the same
but it's almost like there's like underlying feeling and belief of like
we're going to do something on the top teams
whereas maybe an underlying thing from top teams might be like
well we should probably win this like
Man United haven't lost the game this season
so they're probably thinking okay middle of the table team
should be an okay game
and subconsciously thinking about PSG in the week
I don't know I could be completely wrong
but that comes with experience though
that's what I'm telling you
like we've been through that.
We've been there as a team where over the years
like we've maybe looked one game too far ahead
and then it's cost us and it's been a team
where people expect us just to win
and I always say in interviews like we'll win like 1-0
maybe and like straight away the media's like
in an interview oh did you think you
I mean did we not just win and get a clean sheet
like you know exactly
it's the media that underestimates teams
not actually necessarily us or any other big team
but it's the media and it's the perception of
oh Chelsea should just batter them
and then even if it's just a 1-0
straight away the questions in the thing after
is like do you think you could have done better
and I'm like well no because we won
we did the aim of the game
is to win and we did that
so it's like don't discredit the opposition
because we don't have that mentality
but I personally think it comes from the media
but anyway before we take a quick break
We're just quickly going to whisk over the other games
because they actually really want to talk about the London City game.
They beat Spurs 4-2.
What a game that was, by the way.
It was constantly back and forth.
I was actually going to a baby shower that day,
but we just had like 10, 15 minutes before that where...
Yeah.
We're like, oh, like, should put this game on.
And it was 2-1 London City,
and then Summonin scored a worldly free kick.
Like, to be honest, I'm going to put it out there
between her and Lynn Wilms on my team.
Like, free kicks of the season, both of them,
they're like
they're up there
with absolute worldies
but it's weird
because you put it down
and me and me and Sarah both
for like oh
top corner
like 100% she's scoring this
like we've seen a move before
same as like when Lynn takes one
we're like goal
and it was two too
and it was like five minutes before
that goal five minutes after
was what I watched
and it was like Tottenham
Tottenham all Tottenham
piling on the pressure
and I didn't have any signal
and then after we got back
I like clicked on like my app
and I was like
London City 4 too
I was like what the hell
like completely against the run-of-play
in the time that I saw.
So good for them.
They're such a strange one.
It's like, I was saying this.
They're building, you know.
They're building.
But it's so random for me.
Like, it's like you can't predict which way they're going to go.
Like they've lost some games where I think,
didn't expect you to lose that.
And then they've won games where I'm just like, well done you.
Like obviously we know the talent that they've got.
They're stats.
They're absolutely stats.
And we always said from the beginning, didn't we?
Like it's about how they gel.
and that was like the biggest thing, but...
I think they are jelling though now.
Yeah, I agree.
But they went from conceding a lot to now scoring a lot
and I think that's the change.
That for me is the game changer for them.
That's where they're turning...
Yeah, exactly.
Doesn't matter if you can see two, three, four,
if you're scoring five, six, seven.
Yeah, and spurs aren't easy.
Like, again, another hard.
I just think I'm absolutely loving the games
like in the women's game
because I think even Champions League, WSL,
like the results are so interesting,
the games are so tough.
Like you said, you can't predict it.
You can't predict the games anymore.
And I love that because I think it shows how competitive the women's game is.
And I stand by at the WSL is by far the best league in the women's game in the world.
It's the most competitive.
It's the hardest league to play in.
It's not just physical, but you've got to be technically able to play top football
to break teams down, to win.
And I just think seeing like fresh players in, new teams, like...
It's exciting, isn't it?
It is.
It's really, really.
exciting at a minute. But yeah, I think it's a turning point
for London City, so I think we're definitely going to
see a difference.
And just want to congratulate
Nikita Paris. She also
made a 200th WSL
appearance, so massive milestone
achieved, so congratulations.
Yeah, huge achievement. Well done, Keats, that's class.
Everton, Man City, City 1-2-1,
but again, close game.
So obviously, Everton's goal, Gago, right,
okay, I think she's sick.
Have you played, you've not played
Everton this year, have you? Not yet, no.
interested to see how you find playing against her because I think you'll love it and she'll
love it. You know, it's one of those like mutual respect. You thrive in it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like I said to her after the game, probably shouldn't have said this, but she hadn't played much
up until that game and I went to her. Literally, she's French. Probably didn't even understand me,
bless her, but I went up to her and I was like, you need to go in your manager's office and you need
to tell him, play me more. Because I was like, you were such a frigging handful.
Obviously I was on the bench
and I was watching
I was thinking
my God
this girl's a player
like the way she moves
like she's got it all
like shift of pace
like turns on the pace
like
she's gone
strength
finishing
I don't know
I don't know
there was
I don't know
maybe maybe I've not seen enough of her
but in that game against us
I thought
you cause us problems today
and I think our defence
have been insane
but I know they're all agreeing
but like yeah
she was a handful
like you can always say
can't you like
100%
Even if you, you've just come on my screen, even if you batter a team, right?
And the striker was clashed, you'd be like, she was a handful, though.
Yeah, definitely.
You have to appreciate, like, the players in front of you.
And even if you win, it doesn't matter.
They can still be, like, one of the hardest opponents that you've faced.
But a good win for City, and that obviously knocks you off the top with City winning and your drawing.
But I think it's going to be a good race, I think, by the end of the season.
It's getting interesting.
It is getting interesting.
Hempo back on the pitch
so good to see her back
I think that's an amazing boost
for city and yeah
probably an area where they've
they'll want to kind of add
a little bit of strength
don't get me wrong
I'm a true Chelsea women's
hype woman but I think
they'll be
they'll be the ones
that will cause you a problem this year I think
I listen I think they all are
and it's crazy I agree
I think you can be at the top
you can also quickly swiftly move down to
off.
But I think on their day,
I think on their day,
they've almost like turned it on now.
We're not at the knitted,
gritty part either.
No, no, no, we're not.
We're still like...
You heard it here first.
I reckon there.
After Christmas...
They're going to be the ones at all...
That's when it gets tasty.
Well, we'll see best here.
But anyway, Liverpool, Brighton,
one.
No, I actually thought Liverpool
we're going to take all three.
We're going to just storm into the league
and be like, no,
we're getting our first one on the board.
but 93rd minute.
But do you know what?
I think about that Rosa Kofagi, right,
had a hard time at Arsenal,
made the moon to Brighton.
Like, it's almost like
the same sort of storyline
as Michelle Aegeman.
Yeah.
And I don't know.
I just feel like, even Keats,
like the players that go to Brighton,
they're always, always improving.
They're always, always getting better.
And, like, you look at Fran,
like, she was obviously at the pinnacle,
like playing at Chelsea.
But I just see a smile in the face.
see that they're like, they're improving and they're buying into the system, they're enjoying
it and happy for her to get that goal.
That's a hard one to take though, 90 third mid, that is, that's a bitch, that is hard
to take.
It hurts, like, mad.
I've been there at the club where you think, surely it's hard time, surely it's hard time,
but you don't have that belief because it hasn't been your time.
So you've had a series of games, a runner games where you've not won, you've not won, you've not won, you've not won,
but it only takes that breakthrough of the one win
because I would never get ahead of myself
like this time last year we were right at the bottom of the table
and then we turned it around in the back end up coming six I think
and Liverpool and Brighton were both those teams
like I say Brighton now because it was in that
but Liverpool was one of those teams
that was like absolutely flat at fourth at this point of the year
Christmas and then did you start to get overtaken
So I think it really is very much
It's almost like a bit of a
Like you're playing like a ball game
Literally
Until Christmas
And then it's like
No pun intended
Why am I just so punny tonight?
I don't know best maybe it's festive spirit
Maybe it's Santa behind you
I don't know
But listen final game
West Ham
Let's start one
Same thing again though
Right
Let's just go in the 97th minute
West Ham are about to get their first win of the season
It's crazy
Like, you think it's there, it's there, it's there,
and then all of a sudden it's not.
But again, there's no coincidence.
Like, it is that mindset.
It's like, oh, we've got a hold on,
we've got to hold on, we've got to hold on.
And I think this time last year,
had we have played this game against Man United,
would have either drawn 1-1 or they lost 2-1
because it's like, you're holding, you're holding, you're holding.
Not at one point in that game did we think
we need to hold on to this lead.
It was like, just keep playing.
Yeah, exactly.
I were fine.
Whereas, I agree.
I agree.
When you're in that slump, it's like,
oh, I've got to protect this with my life.
And it's because you're so desperate for it as well.
Yeah, you're just desperate.
Yeah.
But listen, before we go for a break,
also, my mum got me another jumper.
They like these mental health jumpers.
It says, light, brighter, and then on the back,
I can't remember what it says.
I'll show you after it.
It's something like you make this.
That does not say brighter.
What's it say?
Light bringer.
Oh, sorry, I.
It's because...
Are you all right?
Light bring it.
No, I'm running off three hours sleep.
And on the back, it says you brighten up this wheel
just by being in it.
That's nice.
I actually saw somebody with a hoodie
your hoodie that you said in the podcast last week.
Yeah.
This week.
So shout out to you.
Right, guys, we will be back.
We hope you enjoyed that first part of the episode.
Jam packed with all things football.
We will be right back.
Welcome back to Daily Brightness.
We are going a little bit different this time.
So usually we'll talk a little bit about football
and then do something else.
But today, we're talking about festivities.
right? Because we spoke about it last week
and we spoke about what people do
on the build up to Christmas
when's acceptable to put their trees up
when's acceptable to decorate, this, that and the other right?
So, back to the point where I was at the baby shower, right?
I was thinking to myself, I just sat there thinking
she feels Christmassy. She feels Christmassy.
Oh, I just feel something in my bones.
I want to put my tree up.
I was like, when is the right time?
But when you want to do something, you will do it.
for anyone listening.
I was somewhere the other day
and they were like,
oh my God, can you believe
at number seven outside
they've got their Christmas decorations up
and I was like, oh, I can't believe
I've got my tree up.
Yeah, go on, have another judge.
Judge again.
Go on, you know what,
I'm not bothered.
I'm not bothered.
Like, everyone knows.
Can people just stop judging
and just let people do what they want to do?
If you want to put your tree up on 1st November,
go for it.
Like, if it makes you happy, do it.
I came down this morning, right?
It's dark still.
So I've come down, as you know, when you're up early with the dogs,
it's still dark.
And like, the living room was bleak and dark.
And I thought, I'm not turning the light on.
I'm putting the tree on.
And I put the tree on, and I sat there.
I've got my fire on, the tree on.
And I just thought, how cozy is this?
It's lovely.
Right, so Rachel's got hers up.
I did agree that I'm going to put mine up in the middle of November.
Do what you want to do?
Exactly.
Do you let Sarah help?
Because I don't let anyone help me do my tree.
because I know I'm going to take whatever you've put on.
I think she's actually really good at it.
I can't best it because I'm just going to,
if someone puts it on, I'm going to remove it
and I'm going to put it well.
Yeah, don't get me wrong.
I do go around and think, well, that one done.
My toxic trait is, can you help do the decorations?
Actually, I'll just do it myself.
Oh, do it all myself then.
That's my toxic trait.
I'm just like, can you actually help?
And then I'm like, you've put it in the wrong place.
Just leave it.
I'll do it myself.
But I'm on, I like, keep going on, like,
TikTok and, like, seeing, like, tips and like,
oh you should do this.
I'm like,
how have I never thought of that?
I definitely want to go more Christmasy outside.
I always do,
so you know my front door,
it's got like those two metal pillars
and I wrap Christmas lights around them
but I want to do some else outside.
I always see people with lovely things in the windows
like what to stick on.
So we've got a massive like,
it's like wicker almost reindeer that lights up.
Yeah.
Massive.
When you put out of the front,
love that.
Literally got that on the side of the road.
So literally driving.
not far from me
and it's like Christmas decoration tin
it's literally on the side of the road
and they like show you what they've got
so we got a reindeer from there
which was lovely
do you have a reef
do you have my reef?
Really yeah
do you know what
I made it years ago
Jim
Really
unbelievable yeah
see I need to do a new one
because I've had that one for like
five years now
but isn't it mad
like there's so many things you can do to
we just don't really know you could do it
yeah I'm getting a bit more creative
if you know.
Yeah, me too, I think I am.
Do you know what's happening?
Remember the presents?
We've got them, I think.
Presents that light up, like them.
Yes, I love those.
Oh, and the little gnomes,
the Christmas gnomes what you sit on the side
and the legs dangled?
No, what are they called?
The little men, what are they called?
They're called them, little men, what they called?
I don't know.
No, what they called the men?
What men?
Nutcrackers.
Oh, them?
Yeah, I've got a big one of them.
We love them.
I've not got one of those.
They're lovely they are.
But tell you what I do like doing,
I love going to a garden centre
with Manan.
Yeah, that's a nice thing to do.
Because they have massive ones there.
All right, which Christmas market are you going to?
Well, we'll go to Birmingham, but it's just been a bit like lame.
Can we do one this year?
Can we go to one?
No, this year I want to go to Nottingham.
This year I want to go to Nottingham's Christmas Market.
But can you tell me when you're going and I would like to join if possible?
Yeah, we'll definitely go.
I think we should go.
Also, Aldi.
I honestly, why am I not sponsored by Aldi?
Like, I gasped them up on every.
episode.
Yeah, same with Yorkshire tea.
I'm getting a bit annoyed.
One of my friends sent them to me
and was like, look at these candles, like,
need to get one.
And they're like the same as, I think it's like a white company
duke, right?
You know, and they've got all like the pines inside them.
Yeah.
And like all the little decorations inside the candle.
And it's got like burn time of up to like 220 hours.
And it smells insane.
Like all by cleaning products
lead up to Christmas, a pine, love it.
Smells amazing.
Give it to me.
So their can be a show at the minute.
Yeah, 25 pound instead of like 925 pounds.
But yeah, I'm really in the Christmas spirit.
Like I have had Heart Christmas Radio on for about two weeks.
Yeah, I must admit, I've started the Christmas songs,
but I'm definitely going to the range.
I mean, we play away again this weekend,
so I don't think I'll have time to go this week.
But Monday I'm off, I'm going to the range.
I'm going to get all my baubles,
all my decorations and it's going up.
It's going up.
It's less about it being Christmassy,
but more just like, it's such a cosy light.
You turn all your lights off.
You don't need your lamp on,
you'd just put your tree on.
It's just nice, isn't it?
It's just happy.
I did think Louis was going to, like, tear it down,
but the only thing he's done is, you know,
like the base of the tree
where you put, like, a little mat down.
He's tried to, like, pull that over it.
For God's sake.
Right, before we get on to our block and delete
and our gratitude,
one thing you're looking forward to this Christmas.
I think because obviously my wedding is around the Christmas period
Missy getting married
Being able to just like sort of really unwind
So I think I put so much pressure myself over the Christmas break
And like you have to go to this person
This person, this person, this person
That person, this person
And like you're never actually free
While you're trying to keep up your training
You're running
Then you've got to go there
Then you've got to come back
Then you've got to do a gym
And you've got to go there
Oh, nearly go la, gola, gola, gola.
For who?
PSG.
I'm really looking forward to just
taking a little bit of a breather
and just unwinding and processing life
and like what the year
and I think at Christmas is when I become really grateful
and like really really
yeah 100%
enjoy what I've experienced over the year
and like what I'm looking forward to
I think just yeah just being able to chill
and be with my family
I think it's such a family time isn't it
I'm going home for Christmas this year
driving home
for Christmas
I'm going to go and annoy you this
shout my mum and dad.
Can't wait.
He better be getting those bailey's hot chocolate's ready for me.
Oh, and you tell you what I do love,
a snowball at Christmas.
Me, my nan and my mom,
we all sit there,
my sister's having a snowball.
We love it.
Yeah, Bailey's at Christmas is the one.
I feel about 80 though when I'm drinking it
because it's such a like,
I feel like it's like my grand loves it,
but I just, I love it.
We all sit there like little girls club
and my dad's just constantly making
and we're like, another one please.
But yeah, I'm really looking forward to spending
Christmas, like actually waking up
with my mum and dad on Christmas
that I've not done it.
That would be nice.
That would be really nice.
That would be really nice.
And like, yeah, I just feel like, like you,
I'm going to be really grateful for the people around me
and just actually taking that time.
It's been a heavy year, man.
Like a heavy year.
So anyway, moving on to our block and delete.
Guys, we absolutely loved the ones that you all sent in.
Keep sending them in because we absolutely love them.
But what is yours?
What would you delete from this week?
I think there's quite a few from this week.
but my number one is dog's being poorly
because...
Hard.
Dexie's been really, really, really poorly
and it's been a hard, hard week.
Yeah, it's been a really hard week, actually.
What was wrong with her?
So, took her to that on, I want to say, Monday.
She just had, like, constant diary.
Like, when I tell you, like, she couldn't take five steps
without shitting all over the place, poor thing.
But, you know, when you know the dog's ill,
like, she kills up in the tight...
Like, I've had it for seven years.
Yeah.
She kills up in the tightest,
little ball and you go near and she's like shivering it's took to the vets and they said she's
yeah she's got an ear infection um like quite deep in the canal so like she had obviously like
really bad diarrhea and i thought that the two would like go hand and how many get an infection
it's just everything sort of goes but they were like no it's not related so that's a worry
so it's been a bit of a it's been really hard and i think obviously because they can't tell you
what's wrong like they try their best but it's like you think she's fine you go to sleep 10 minutes later
there's just like explosive diarrhea
around the house. And I hate so
much that it's almost like
she feels like she's been bad
for doing that. I'm like
darling, go wherever you want to go.
I don't care. Yeah, we'll clean it up.
Absolutely don't care. You can go up the walls,
you can go up the carpet, whatever you want.
Like, just get it out if you need to. Like, don't worry.
It's so sad. You just want to love them.
So that is my
number one block and delete and there is many
this week. I would say
social media this week, because I
just think it's just for me it's like social media has become a place where everyone just
says what they want and everyone just dishes out abuse like it's not harmful you don't know
what's going on in people's lives yet you just have a god-given right to abuse people like
I think every time I've clicked on social media I've had like an abusive message and it couldn't
have come on a worse, like weekend, like the worst, which I don't need to, I'm not going
to disclose the information and I'm not going to say what I've been through personally, because
I shouldn't have to justify not getting abuse. And I just think, again, social media is
becoming a place where you can say whatever you like, there's no consequences, you can
destroy people's confidence, like, just well-being, just, yeah.
I just, I hate it.
At times, I hate it.
Other times, I love it.
You get to share your memories.
You get to connect with people.
You get to, yeah, see what your friends and family are doing
and share all these, like, memories and stuff.
And then other times, I'm just like, I hate it.
It's such a horrible, horrible place sometimes.
And, you know, you just try and, like, for me,
it could be a stupid TikTok that I do.
It makes me feel good.
You know what I'm like, I'm goofy.
I love doing stuff like that.
and then next thing, 30, 40 comments later,
I'll probably want to delete it
because it's just full of shitty comments.
So it's just like, I'm bored of it.
I'm absolutely bored of it.
If I could just wipe everything and delete all my social media
tomorrow and I didn't need it for work,
then I'd get rid of it.
For me, it's like not knowing,
like I've seen some things or like some people have shared some things with me
and like maybe it's about you, maybe it's about me.
And like, yeah, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
Like, don't get me wrong.
But, like, yeah,
they're really hurtful.
Yeah.
I had your mum on the phone to me this week.
People think we're like...
And like you don't know about that,
but I've had your mum on the phone to me
like petrified and concerned about how you're feeling.
And I just think that is such a frightening feeling
and I'm trying to reassure your mum
but then at the same time I'm concerned
at the same time I'm receiving abuse.
And it's like...
Exactly.
That's like...
It's just so, yeah, I mean, there's no point going into it because I think...
No.
I just think what, the only message is,
not every opinion needs to be voiced,
and social media isn't a place where you can just abuse,
like, it's not, it's not, and I just, I just don't understand it.
Like, if you've got nothing nice to say, just don't say it.
Don't say it.
And nine times out of ten, these people follow me.
They follow you, and then they still want to, like, I just,
don't make sense, and that's the thing you don't see the effect that has on us, on our
families, or on anyone else. I wouldn't want anyone else to receive abuse like we've received.
And I think one of the things to take away from that is like no one on the outside knows
what's going on behind closed doors, so whether that's positive, whether that's negative.
And equally, you don't need to know.
This is a platform where it's almost like we can kind of like let people in to our worlds
in essence, but really
like you don't know
the real things that are going on
and I think that's what people need to be
a little bit more cognizant of.
Yeah, I don't
want to go into it anymore because I don't want to
receive any more
anything. If you don't like content, scroll past it.
We're opening ourselves up
because we've been vulnerable
and that's kind of what we
chose and I understand that
but I just think like the level of abuse
this is I mean
and it's not not just me not just you
like the level of abuse I've seen over
social media
even in a year I'm just like
oh I deactivated me Instagram account last week
I was just like this is horrible
and that don't I don't want anyone to get that mixed up
I'm not just talking about me personally
or I'm talking about social media as a whole
is so judgmental it's so abusive
it's so entitled
where I've got an account
I can just comment on that
I can give that person shit
if you don't like something
just don't comment
just scroll past it
unfollow that person
I think even me
the worst part is
is like your family see that
having your mum call me
the day I was like
oh my god
this is really shit
who bearing in mind
struggles with anxiety
and has struggled
with depression in the past
like now I know
that's in my head
so I'm thinking shit
now I've got to make sure
mum's all right
because of what other people
that don't actually know me
are saying
But anyway, that's my block and deal.
That is exactly why we need to be grateful for things.
Yeah, so we're going to swiftly move on to the good shit.
There's a lot of good people out there,
so thank you for your love and support as always.
But moving on to our gratitude, Rachel, hit me hard.
What is it?
Mine this week is my shark carpet cleaner.
And this is not sponsored.
This is not an ad.
This is me.
This is me spending 160 pounds on a carpet cleaner
because my poor baby Dexie was really poorly
and shit all over my entire house.
and I thought, I need to clean my carpet,
so I could, there's nothing that's been like...
Hey, no wonder you got them, all your candles.
I bet it's stung resting.
Yeah, it did.
But I bought this thing, I thought, right, like, obviously I'm a shark lover,
so I was like, I've got to go with shark, I'm going to get this one,
bought it, thought, let's just try it.
Oh, my God.
Have you ever cleaned your carpet?
Is it a carpet with a carpet cleaner?
Yeah, I've got one of those suction things.
I did my sofa with it as well.
No, the wet ones.
Yeah, what pumps the water in?
and then it cut, it all doors out, and you see it all.
This, like, I thought I was clean.
I don't even want it, I don't even want a picture of it, the colour of the shit.
And, like, I hoover my carpets all the time.
I'm very, like, I'm a clean person, right?
Like, I was, I was, but now, my carpet is spotless.
Oh, besty, best it, besty.
And I bought that and a, um, a steam mop for my downstairs.
And, yeah, two things I'm massively grateful for.
Yeah, that and vets.
Yeah.
Even though they could make us pay whatever it costs.
Like, just grateful for people looking after our jobs.
Seriously, the vet bills are no joke.
No joke.
Consultations, like 80 pound?
I don't know.
Okay, well, my first gratitude is,
I've got my boiler.
Yeah, something to be grateful for, for sure.
I'm very grateful for my boiler finally getting fitted.
That is exceptional.
My second thing to be grateful for
is you
because this week
more than ever
you've known
that I've needed you
and I have not asked
I've not had to ask you
I've not had to say anything
you've just sent me that little emoji
that's our emoji
and I know what it means
I'm just like
a little bit of strength
gets me through another day
puts all the shit to one side
keeps me on the straight and narrow
and yeah I just
I really really think
everyone deserves to have a person
in the life that they can
truly, truly, truly rely on.
And you are my person, you always have been,
you always will be. And everyone needs that
because fucking our life can get dark
and tough at times and
yeah, without you are. As long as we're holding the light
on each other, it would be all right. Seriously.
Darling, I've got a big arse spotlight
and I'm keeping it on you forever.
Oh, that's cute. I love your best.
Love you. Love you. But that is it.
Right, guys, we hope you've enjoyed
that episode. A bit of a longer one today
and packed with lots of good stuff.
But yeah, thank you for listening to Daily
Brightness, keep supporting us. If you haven't already, Rachel, tell them what to do.
Subscribe, like, do whatever you need to do, but listen to Daily Brightness. Sending your
