Starting point is 00:00:00 Before we get into today's episode of Daily Brightness, we just want to say a huge thank you to Shaw for helping bring our podcast to life. Obviously this is something that we've wanted to do for a while, teaming up with Goldhanger was an absolute no-brainer for us, but I think it's more just probably to get our points out there. I think like before Rach, it's about bringing Daily Brightness to life and I think when we first invented it, if you like, it was all about communicating with each other, having that safe space to kind of be a little bit vulnerable and just showing our raw authentic selves and I think for us the podcast is that and that's why I think we're extremely grateful for sure to give us that opportunity and kind of bringing it to life and allowing us to now you know have it on a
Starting point is 00:00:39 wider spectrum and connecting with the fans again but also some of the things in the women's game that really need to be better and the problems and boundaries that we still face and I think as players current players as well we can really touch on that and you know hopefully bring a little bit of attention but ultimately it's just about sharing who we are as people and yeah like I said we're really really grateful that Shora have given us this opportunity and supported us since day one. Obviously it's been amazing that Shore have backed us from the start and all the way through this now but exciting to have them be alongside us for this exciting summer of football and they'll be with us every step of the way so we're grateful for them to be alongside us sharing this journey as well.
Starting point is 00:01:19 So thanks again to Shore and thank you all for tuning in. Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Restless Football Daily Brightness. I'm Millie Bright. And I'm Rachel Daly. And this is our Q&A session. Rach, what you got for us? Okay, first things first, we've got a question from Jess. She says, you've spoken a couple of times now about your tattoos, but I noticed you've both
Starting point is 00:01:51 got quite a few more tattoos than the couple of stories we've heard so far. Could you talk through all of the tattoos you've each got and what they are and what they mean to you? Okay, so my arm, this one, is all about my family. So I've got my dad's handwriting that he wrote in a card. Like, my dad used to write me Valentine's cards growing up. Yeah, he did say that. I remember you saying that. So it says, with all my love, Dad, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss. So I got that copied from one of my Valentine's cards that he wrote me.
Starting point is 00:02:25 I feel like I could talk about these forever. I have a lily for my mum because you can't see because there's a microphone. I don't know where to go. That is a lily for my mum because that's her favourite flowers. This one is an Egyptian ankh and it was a necklace that my dad used to wear. They gave us his necklace when he passed away with this on so my brother has that now this says at least until the world stops
Starting point is 00:02:52 going round, that is a Leeds United song part of Marching On Together perfect perfect fit for my dad, we've got that on his gravestone so yeah basically it's all about family I've got Dexy's name i've got the euro i can't do this do you know i'm literally not seeing luckily i know what your tattoos look
Starting point is 00:03:14 like but i can't see the i can't see shit because of that microphone can you move that all i can see is this right i've got the european championship trophy with a lioness in there that i created myself my tattoo artist. Do you know I've still not got my tattoo yet for the Euros? Yeah, you need to get it. I know. And then this little bear is like my favourite one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Bestie, this is not a very good show and tell. And that's for my nephew. So basically there's loads more on there, but I think the moral of the story is that my arm is like a celebration of my family and my achievements. I like that a lot. I'm hopefully going to do a little bit of a better show and tell than Rachel. Yeah, you're all right because your camera's right in front of you.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Right, this is my latest piece, to be fair. I just had Pegasus on. That absolutely killed. That's just like home. Obviously, everyone knows horses in my background, but beautiful pegasus in a storm which is pretty much my life so that's quite relevant I've got my owl we've got a barn owl at the stables back in Sheffield which is very unique they don't really come out often so another piece of home and the flowers I just got because they look nice this is probably my favourite one on the inside that one
Starting point is 00:04:23 I desire well I've done all my own tattoos to be honest but that is a dream catcher my mum says dream big every single game she has done for my whole career um but we changed it to a lotus flower the half moon that one's for mama b and obviously i've got my tiger on the outside but But yeah. It's funny, isn't it? A lot of our stories of our tattoos are about her. Yeah. And that's for my nephews. Hakuna Matata, obviously, you know their backstory
Starting point is 00:04:54 and everything they've gone through with my sister. So I've always sang Hakuna Matata to them, which means no worries. And they picked their heart. So Vinnie picked green, which is my favorite no worries and they picked their heart so Vinny picked green which is my favorite color and Harvey picked red and Albie's not quite old enough yet to know his favorite color is because if I asked him today he'd say yellow and if I ask him tomorrow he'd say purple and then the next day it'd be red so I'm gonna wait till yeah I'm gonna wait till he's a little bit older
Starting point is 00:05:20 but yeah I think all mine have like meaning to honest. I don't think I've got one tattoo where it's just like off the cuff. Oh, I've got loads of them. But yeah, you've got YOLO on your ass, we're aware. My arm is like, I love my arm because it's so sentimental. Like that was the first one I got and it's a poem footprint. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And my mum used to read it to us when we were a kid. I don't know if you know that poem. It says, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. So of footprints, it was then that I carried you. So I got, it was then that I carried you round my wrist with the little footprints and also have a dream catcher. Hey, that's mad.
Starting point is 00:05:53 So that's just a little show and tell of our tattoos in a nutshell, I suppose. Good question. We've got many more to come, so. Plenty more. Okay, up next we've got Polly. Would you rather spend a week in a forest or a night in a real haunted house forest all day give me a bear i'll take
Starting point is 00:06:12 on a bear no problem you know how scared i get i don't know you know i think i'd like to go into a haunted house yeah that's because you're a freak and you do stuff like that. Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi, my head! No, I'm going to say a haunted house. I wouldn't want to do it alone, though. I'm too jumpy. Look at all them videos of you jump-scaring me. No, but you'd do it with me. Yeah, we'd do it together.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Obviously, we'd do anything together, but I'd take on a forest me. I think a haunted house, right, the reason why I'd go with that is they're not really going to harm me but if i'm in a forest i'll protect you all right we'll go we'll do one one night in each all right cheers for that paul yeah thanks you tortured us with a question got another would you rather though from zoe would you rather have super sensitive taste buds or super sensitive hearing that's a mouthful oh a lot of supers in there i would 100 buds or super sensitive hearing. That's a mouthful. Ooh, a lot of supers in there. I would 100% rather have super sensitive taste buds
Starting point is 00:07:10 because you know what I'm like about hearing things. Yeah, let me just paint a picture for the viewers. So for anyone listening, Rachel cannot stand noises. Like if you're sat eating a packet of crisps, you better be going like this and you know what the worst part about it is the closer you are to me the worse i hate it so like you doing it to me i'm like oh versus somebody like in on a train i'd just be like oh don't know them it would annoy me but not as much do you know i did that the other day to my mom? I went, are you eating something? Because I can hear it so loudly.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Please step away from the phone. Or the phones are worst. Through the phone. If you ring me and you're chewing and you're having your breakfast through the phone, bye, Felicia, I'm out. Yeah, so Rach is super sensitive. If you're chewing, chewing gorm and it's too loud
Starting point is 00:08:01 or if you're like scratching on your plate, we don't like that, to be fair. Or like tapping, like, oh, i can't bear it anything yeah she gets really annoyed really easily but uh i would say the same because well you i've got super sensitive taste buds you can't have anything no i yeah just sense danger don't i uh yeah i'm going with super sensitive taste buds for sure. Yeah. So imagine that hearing every little noise, like imagine hearing like little flies and stuff and like, but constantly.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Oh no. I feel like I do that anyway. Yeah, you do to me. What's that noise? Turn it off. Oh, it's literally me. Right, we've got one from my mate Millie. Another would you rather.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Would you rather be able to speak any language or be able to communicate with animals? You know mine right away. 100% animals. I always say this, I'm like, I'd love to talk to Dexy and her be able to just talk back to me and just have a little conversation. I think she's Mexican, so I think she'll speak all Spanish,
Starting point is 00:09:02 so nice, she'll be like, hola, mama. Hola, señorita. Como estas, señorita? Te amo. Muy bien. So, yeah, but how good would it be to be able to talk to your pet? And on the flip side, when they're in pain, they can't tell you, so I'd love, it'd make life a lot easier.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Yeah. Tell me what's wrong, darling. Tell me why you're not eating your dinner. Tell me why you need to go to the vets again. Tell me why you pooed on my newly fresh lawn she's talking she's talking honey she said you want to talk to me i'll talk back good question but yeah i would like to speak other languages but if that is the would you rather it's 100 animals i do try though i go on duolingo i thought you meant you do try and speak to animals.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Yeah, just picture that. Elsa, listen to me. Elsa, please can you communicate? Say hello. I know we do. I'll never, ever, ever forget when you did French in Duolingo. You were doing it in a room. And we stayed overnight somewhere.
Starting point is 00:10:03 And you were just like, Un chat. Un chat. Un chat. Honestly, the whole time, it's then the ones that you repeat and it's just like, you've got to have the French accent and you just go,
Starting point is 00:10:18 Un chat. I don't have the French accent. I don't have the Spanish accent. What does that mean? Is that cat or something? Cat, yeah. A cat. Un chat. Don't ask the French accent. What does that mean? Is that cat or something? Cat, yeah. A cat. A cat.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Don't ask me anything else. But no, I can't do the accents. I'm just Northern. That's it. Take me for what it is. Or don't take me at all. Check it for what it is. Un chat.
Starting point is 00:10:42 That is literally what I remember from you sat there that's another thing that was annoying me listening to yeah but do you know what was annoying I was saying it correctly and I understood it and it was saying incorrect try again I'm just like off man listen
Starting point is 00:10:59 right guys we're going to take a quick break thank you for your questions so far we'll be right back see you soon Right, guys, we're going to take a quick break. Thank you for your questions so far. We'll be right back. See you soon. Welcome back, everyone. The first round of questions we enjoyed. So let's go straight back into some other questions.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Millie, what have you got? We are going to go with Amy Summers. Do you have a daily ritual or habit that keeps you grounded? Because of the lives that we live and with football, you get a daily ritual or habit that keeps you grounded because of like the lives that we live and you know with football you get a lot of luxuries everyone expects you to like have like designer things and splashing cash and like i just think i would wear literally anything like i would wear something from primark i would wear some like i literally live off ASOS. Best day, my outfit right now. Talk to me. Fiverr Primark t-shirt, right? Love it.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Short, four pound Primark shorts. And this cap is from TK Maxx, tenner. See, and how good do you feel in your outfit? Amazing. Exactly. I look lovely. Lovely, lovely. I'd say, yeah not not like
Starting point is 00:12:05 feeling like you have to live the life of the luxury just because we're in it like staying grounded like just being authentically ourselves
Starting point is 00:12:12 and we love a cheap shop don't we no I don't care like do you remember that actually is a really good time
Starting point is 00:12:18 to tell this story in Australia when we seen that on the bikes hey that's when we seen that black adder yeah no we biked for about an hour and a half mate it was longer than that it was it was probably like an hour there in an hour we were buzzing that we found a tk max in australia everyone else is out like getting food
Starting point is 00:12:39 and doing nice we're shopping we're literally in t shopping. We were biking on a motorway near enough. Do you know what? We saw that snake. We need to get the picture and video of that because the amount of bags we had on those bikes. No, I don't even know we got home. And we could have died. We're on the motorway.
Starting point is 00:12:57 We look like Chuckle Brothers. That was one of my favourite days now. I can't even remember what we bought. How did we get all that stuff back? No idea. Absolutely no idea. But anyway, great question. Anyway, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Thanks, Amy. That was a sick question. So yeah, just doing you basically. You do you, boo. You do you, boo-boo. Right, next one is from Ava. What is your go-to chocolate bar? This is a fantastic question because we both love chocolate.
Starting point is 00:13:21 I'm a little fatty. I love chocolate. I love it. Just call me little fatty. I love chocolate. I love it. Just call me Bruce. I love the cake. Just call me Bruce. Bruce, Bruce, Bruce. What is your favourite chocolate bar though?
Starting point is 00:13:34 Mine's a boost. Mine has to be, I've stuck with it as a kid, Milky Bar. Little Milky Bar, the little 10p ones. Yeah, but you can get the big ones, that thin, way too thin white chocolate. Yeah, but they're probably about 80p now. What was that little song that went to it? Yeah, that's it. Milky Bar kid is strong and tough.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Only the rest is good enough. Something like that. That's cute. You look like the Milky Bar kid. Yeah, like this. Peewee. I love it. White kid. Yeah, like this. Pee-wee. I love it. White chocolate.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Oh, God. Yeah, I like white chocolate, but it's not my favourite. Yeah, because you always like the white chocolate buttons, don't you? White chocolate buttons, you know they're going to tournaments with me. Yeah, I love a boost chocolate bar. To be honest, there's not many that I don't like. Or Snickers. Love a Snickers.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Love a Snickers ice cream. Oof. Question for you. You know when you get the boxes at christmas yeah like do you eat the bounties do no freaking horrible awful get in the bin get in it's weird because i like coconut i like chocolate but together it's just not for me and you know if we had the quality street ones i would eat all the orange and strawberries and I'd leave the rest. Hey, and do you know what? So many people leave the orange and strawberries.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I'm like, brilliant. No, what are you on about? You get round to someone's house and all the orange and strawberries are left over. They're like, oh, sorry, it's just leftovers. I'm like, get in. That's what we eat out of those. Strawberry dream and orange cream
Starting point is 00:15:00 or something they're called, aren't they? Yeah, banging. Oh, now I want some chocolate. Same. This is a good one. This is from lynn i'm a massive dog lover and i have a little cocker spaniel who hardly leaves my side and i try to take her everywhere i know a lot of female footballers have dogs and i often think how do you fit them in around your football commitments do they come to training do you have to get dog borders when you play away from home or abroad this is a good
Starting point is 00:15:23 question for us, I think. This is, and they're a massive part. I mean, I've got three and mine don't go to the borders that much. Obviously over the summer, when it's for long periods, they'll go. I feel like now I've got Elsa, I struggle sending them to my nan's because my nan's like 80. Ice cream, man. I just sent the ice cream over here in a minute. He's on my street. Oh my God, I'm fuming. Ice cream, man. I just said the ice cream over here in a minute. He's on my street.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Oh, my God, I'm fuming. I'm fuming. Girls are 99. Oi. Oi. Oi. Yeah, but they're not 99p anymore. They're about £4.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Anyway. Anyway, go back to your thing about the dogs. I don't know. I get anxiety sending them places because if it's not my standards, then i'm going to be pissed so luckily i have amazing neighbors where they come in and check on them throughout the day when i'm at training um when i go away for games they sort them out the dogs are always here but they also go to my nans my mom and dad help so much but it don't really bother
Starting point is 00:16:22 me like some people always say oh god how do you manage and i'm like just. But it doesn't really bother me. Some people always say, oh God, how do you manage? And I'm like, just get organised. I can't think of life without them. That's why I'm like, I don't understand. It's not a struggle. With Dexy, obviously I flew back with her from America.
Starting point is 00:16:39 She is just not that comfortable with other dogs, is she? So there's certain ones she likes. She likes yours because they're small. She had a bit of a run-in with a dog when she was a puppy, and she just can't stop looking at ice cream, man. Bestie, you're not having an ice cream. And she has just, like, developed a fear of bigger dogs. So I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in a boarders.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I'm very lucky because, obviously, I can bring her into training almost every day. Like, she just sits in the training rooms. The girls absolutely love her. Like, if I don't bring her in her borders i'm very lucky because um obviously i can bring her into training almost every day like she just sits in the training rooms the girls absolutely love her like if i don't bring her in yeah they're like where is she and also very lucky that sarah's mom watches dexy and i'm away so i've just got really good neighbors really really good neighbors and good family that help and yes they do go to the boarding places on like longer periods for holidays and stuff. But to be honest, I like them to be at home. I get anxiety sending them places. Sam, I don't really like taking Dexie away, but she's so comfortable at the places.
Starting point is 00:17:32 That's another thing. She'll go anywhere. She's got no loyalty. It's like literally anyone that takes her in the house, she's like, you know, this is nice. Take me, darling. Take me. Right, are we moving on to our last one now?
Starting point is 00:17:46 So this is from jess my daughter is starting her gcse exams tomorrow and she's extremely anxious and stressed she absolutely loves both millie and rachel and women's football the whole family are true blues sorry rach can't blame them though can you no it's do what you want to do to be honest but but how did you deal with I mean what was your view on school because I hated every single minute of school yeah me too like I would never want to go back
Starting point is 00:18:12 I do think that like your exams are so important like there's a lot of things that I would say about school that I didn't agree with but I do think for the future like your exams are important if I could go back I would say about school that I didn't agree with, but I do think for the future, like, your exams are important. If I could go back, I would do it differently. Yeah, make sure you're concentrating a lot more.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Yeah, I'd have made sure I came out with something other than I want to go into sport or want to do the horses. I would have made sure that I had, like, a different option because now I feel like I'm doing those things. I did my GCSEs in Switzerland in in the european championships under 17s yeah sure there was loads of us that we had to do like lucy bronze was there there was loads of us we all had to do our um gcses while we're away yeah so to get permission from school to do that was that was a battle in itself that is all right but how would you deal
Starting point is 00:19:01 with like what let's give some tips uh because i think regardless of it being exams we obviously deal with a lot of stress and anxiety every day so i think just being prepared like if you know you've put in the work and you know you've done the studying and you know that you've revised as well as you possibly can then whatever happens on the day is is ultimately the best that you can give so the outcome is going to take care of itself if you put the work in fail to prepare is preparing to fail now i'd agree though 100 and i think if you do struggle like i really struggled revising so it's just finding what way works for you because everyone's not the same and that is
Starting point is 00:19:35 equally fine as well but also nerves aren't always a bad thing i think to be nervous for something shows that you care so i think it's okay to be nervous it's just about channeling kind of that anxiety and making sure that it pushes you in the right direction rather than hindering um but everyone's different so there's not one method that works for all it's just like rachel said preparing um and yeah just giving your best all you can do is 100 your best and no one can knock you what will will be, will be. Exactly. If you give your all and you've prepared in the best way, then that's all you can do.
Starting point is 00:20:09 No one can ever question it. So, yeah, good luck with the exams. Anyone doing their GCSEs, good luck. Best of luck to everybody. A big time coming up for you all. So I hope you all smash it and get the results that you want. Yeah, take it seriously. And on that note just
Starting point is 00:20:25 a massive thank you to everyone for your questions we've absolutely loved chatting rate as always thank you for my therapy session you've made me giggle laugh and smile um but yeah that's it for this one and we'll be back soon keep sending your questions guys take care have a nice weekend bye
