The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S2E13 (November 16, 2002)

Episode Date: September 2, 2022

Series two of the podcast began on 28 February 2006. It consisted of 6 episodes with the final one released on 4 April 2006. The series saw the return of Karl's Diary and Rockbusters. A new (though ...short-lived; it was only presented in the first episode) feature was also introduced in order to replace Pilkington's "Monkey News", called "Real Monkey News", where Gervais attempts to present facts about chimpanzees which are factual and scientific. With the start of series two, the formerly free Ricky Gervais Show shifted to a pay model – and as a result the show is now classified as an audiobook. It is available through Audible and the iTunes Store with individual episodes. The reason for this addition, according to Ricky on the podcast, is because The Guardian agreed to pay for the bandwidth for 12 episodes, and any more extra episodes would have to be paid for out of their personal finances.

Starting point is 00:00:00 Food Fighters, All My Life on XFM 104.9, I'm Ricky DeVay, with me Steve Merchant. And, uh, Carl Pilkington. Indeed. Genius, genius, genius, saying about people tune in just to hear his games, such as... Educating Ricky. Have you got some educating Ricky for me? Really? Is that what you to refer to me? Yeah, yeah. Genius. Genius, saying about people. some educating Ricky for me? I need some education Carl. I desperately need some education. I want to learn about Chinese kids that are born hairier than average. I want to hear about deaf
Starting point is 00:00:32 girls that can hear after their mom hits their head against the wall. These are the things I need to know. I mean I don't wish to be disrespectful. He doesn't look like a genius. He doesn't look like genius. But then I don't know what genius looks like. Exactly. So, you know, I don't want to be an... Look at Einstein. Yeah. Yeah. His mom thought he was mental as a child.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Where did you get that information from? That was in the Einstein book? That was in the Einstein book? That was in the big book of Einstein stuff. Oh yeah, yeah the big bumper book of Einstein stuff. It's for a coach trip and you have to fill in E equals MC1 squared, two fish or three hello and then it's small choice and you feel it's great. Did his mom think A, he was a genius. B, mental. So most people go for A but it is in fact B. She thought he was mental. Oh Carl. You never let me down. You never let me down. So have you got educating Ricky for me? Educating Ricky coming up. We've got
Starting point is 00:01:32 rock busters. We've got rock busters. We've got rock busters. We've got rock busters. As seen, as seen and talked about in heat. It's got really tough this week. Now we're not messing about it, the thirty. tooomereen, th. th. th. th. th. th. tooom. tooom. tooom. tooom. too. tooom. too. too. too. too. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, too. to me, to me, to me, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you. to, you, you, you, you, you, you. to me, you. to me, you. to, you. to, you. to, to. to, to. to, to. to. to, to me. to me. to me. to, to me. to me. to me. to, to me. to me. to, to me, to. to me, to. to me, to me, to. to me, to me, to me, to me, to. to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me. yeah we'll talk about those later. Yeah, because I mean was it last week that you had the classic? Was it, um, I can't remember, I'm paraphrasing Carl, apologies, something like, I'm here in Texas, I've fallen in a puddle and my knee has got wet, the the Houston. Whitney Houston. Yeah. Also it was last week when there was a little bit of confusion over the one for Holly Valence. Of course. I don't think it was confusion, I think it was your error. Yeah. No, it wasn't. And it was Holy Valence and you meant Pelmett. Ah, then Becky who called up that time and said, oh, if you're getting mistaken with Pelmit, right, she sent me an email in a week, saying I've done a bit of research, it was my fault, I've error yeah it is a valence okay and I know about valences as I told you last week at the very end meanti loves them yeah right she makes them she
Starting point is 00:02:34 started off just like putting them on top of the window around the curtain and then she thought oh I can do more with this and she had a little coffee table that had magazines underneath and said, I'm sick of seeing them magazines when I'm sat down. She sounds like a pilken too. So, I'm sick and seen them magazines when I sit down. So she put a valence around the table. Yeah, yeah. She just got valets around everything. Then, next step, she taped everything. She never actually watches Tell her she tapes everything. She never actually watches tele, she tapes it all, because
Starting point is 00:03:05 she gets sick of listening to the adverts and that. So she tapes everything, so you've got loads of video tapes and that. And the video used to get on her nerves when she was watching a film she'd see the clock changing. And it distracted from the film so she got a valon's around. That's genius! That's really? That's that. That's that. That's that. That's that. That's that. That's that. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi-I's thi-a-a--a---a----------s. their their their their their their their their their their their th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, thi. So, thi. So, thi. So, thi-s. She's thi-s. thi-s. So, thi-s. thi-s. taped-s'-sa-sa'-sa'-sa'-sa'-sa'-s'-s'-s'-s. So, thia-s. So, th? Only Mrs. Einstein can turn it. I don't know. She's even made a little Jack Russell look like a hovercraft. It's great. So everything's got a balance? If you go round and you stand still for too long, the chances are you get a balance trying your head. This is the, this is Auntie Who? And this is the one that farters for five minutes, lest our listeners forget. Fark for five minutes for five minutes, called his mum, saying I'm farting, two minutes into the fart. She said about two and a half minutes in.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yeah. She said I'm about two and a half minutes. She said, well, it was, two and a half minutes or something. And then it stopped. She couldn't time right because there was a balance over the clock. Yeah, she used to annoy it when she was on the phone and you put her half at the time. She was guessing it was five minutes. This was one consistent. Yeah, I mean it wasn't making a noise. Oh it wasn't making a noise. It was just gas. endless car. So that's fantastic. Well we started off with a new one, a little bit of food fighters. We like New and Old on this show, don't we like to mix it up. I'd like to play the Smith from their debut album. I don't owe you anything. I don't owe you anything. The
Starting point is 00:04:35 lads from Carl's hometown there. Indeed. The Smiths. Brilliant that one. Wow. I went to Manchester, didn't I the other day. We went to to to to. It was all right. He went and waited to get out, you see he figured it's better than Houston. Right? It was, you know, it was nicer. I went outside and there was a ridiculous queue and sort of one cab. Right, yeah. So, uh... Horse drawn. Yeah. And so I walked and it was okay it was only down the road, a bit dark. It was wet and raining. Of course. I know it's the north. I know it's the north. I know it's a today. Obviously it's the north. I know what's going on there. I know it's the hotel. I've never seen it. I've the hotel in the hotel. I was had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had had th. I was. I was th. I was th. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. I was going. the the th. the th. It was going. It was going. the hotel. It was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going was going. I was going. I was going. I was. I was. I was. I was.this corporate gig in Old Trafford. The pitch was up, I don't know they were doing, but you know very impressive, big impressive. I think they're a football club aren't they? Carl? You did a gig at where? Old Trafford. It was no, it was a function room. No, no, I'm not that big yeah, no. But I mean I can't really comment
Starting point is 00:05:42 on Manchester. I do know that Liverpool was voted most important music city via Pol. So, uh, Carl, you're making noises while I'm talking. Yeah, but you do this all the time try to whining up. And I'm not saying Manchester's the best place in the world, but what I'm saying is, there's bits of it that I really miss. Like last Sunday, right? When, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm saying is, there's bits of it that I really miss. Like last Sunday, right? When I met up with Ricky, we had spaghetti with Bolognaise, which was all right. And then I said to, I said, I need some soil. Damn, I wish you'd invited me.
Starting point is 00:06:16 It sounds amazing. So I need some soil. What do you ne? So, yeah. I need to repot a plant. Yeah. I, I, So, um, I'm like, where, you can't see these shops in London. Do you know what I mean? I mean, it's nothing around. I took him straight to one in my street? Yeah, but near your street and handfuls walking down the street. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:06:46 People just lean over into someone's front garden. No, you can take the plants as well. No, what I'm saying is, go on. Manchester there's loads of decent hardware shops. Yeah. Yeah. You know if you're a panini in a latte or whatever you can't move from them, but but but but but but but but but but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, you, you, you, you, you can't, to, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you, you, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, to, to, to, to, to to to to to to to to tap, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the many miles away from me to carry that soil home and stuff. It's not, I mean London's all right, but if cities were sort of marked. It's neglecting the peat at the market really, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:07:14 Well there's barely any mulch available in central London. I'm sick and tired of not getting a good decent compost of a Sunday. So, you know, I'm thinking of moving to the north where there is loads of soil and gravel and animal shite. Yeah, so you were going to say a few marking cities out of ten, what would you give London? Well, if you were marking them on like, you know, on what they have? As opposed to what? Well, as opposed to the you spell it. I think the greatest city in the world is Rome. It's pretty amazing. Have you been? What, yeah, why do
Starting point is 00:07:52 you think that though? Just because like you turn a corner and there's something that's really old. Like, you're going down a normal street. Going down a dau. Yeah. No, no, no, but it's like you're going down the road and then you turn a corner and like the Colosseums in the middle of like a busy road. It's like what's that doing there? Yeah. And just when you think there's no more you turn another corner. It's almost asthere, what's there? Yeah. Do you know what I mean? So there's a lot of space there. Get one big B and Q. In Trafalgar Square. So cater for the whole of people who live sort of central Londonish. Yeah. And then I'd be happy but what I'm saying is...
Starting point is 00:08:38 What with Nelson just popping up be like the whole sort of flat thing and make it sort of grey so it looked like rock and then Nelson pop it. Make it classy is what you say? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Stone clad it. So it looks like you've made an effort. And then you can pop in and then you can go out and go look at Nelson's column. Oh look at the victory. The victory. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. No. No. No. Now. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No................. Yeah. Yeah... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they. they. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the victory, defeat, that's fantastic, one of the greatest living. I need some nails. Yeah, perfect. Kevin two britch we want to do you see.
Starting point is 00:09:08 But why don't, why isn't there more than, more than them shops? Because when I went into yours, every time I've been in there, I've been in there, I've been in there twice now, the first time was to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get a get to get a get to get to get a to get to get a to get a to get a to get a shower I to get a shower I was to get a shower, I was to get a shower, I was to get a shower, I was their woer, right I was their their woer, right their woer, right their one I was their one I was their one I was their one I was their one their one their one their one their one their one their one their one their one I was their one I was their one I was their one, I was their one, I was their one, I was their one, I was their one, I was their sa, I was their sa' their shia' thoom, I was thoombera' sows, I was thoom, I was thoomorrow, I was thou? their shia'er, I was their one the. And then, last Sunday we went in there, got two bags of soil, not one, I bought two, and I bought some scissors to cut plants with. Secretaries. Well, you don't, you never know when you want, you know, you might need more soil, I suppose. Well, I've got, I've got to say I to tell you to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have their it, their it, their it, got it, got it, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got..... th. th. Got. Got. th. Got, got, got, got, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. Play a classic. I hate to say I told you so on XFM 104.9 and Lookage of A's obviously, with me Steve Merchant. And Carl, Genius, Pilkington. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I was watching a bit of TV. the brain. The brain. Brin's. I was watching a bit TV last night, Rick. Go on. I had a little thought thought theat TV the need. No I didn't watch children need. I was watching something I think it was last night it was a bit earlier. I think a little thought for lads that might be out tonight you know on the Razz. Maybe they get
Starting point is 00:10:11 a little bit of success with the ladies. This was something that struck me as I was watching here. A lot of gentlemen you know when they're when they're when they're engaged in an act of the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their they they they they they' they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their tha. their their their they. their their their they. their their their their their their, think of an image or something that will prevent them from, you know, shh-shhund. We're men in the world. Grandmother's funeral is the cliche. Exactly. And I'll tell you what I think it should be. Rick Waller, jogging. I was watching Fit Club. I have never seen anything I liked it where Harvey lost it with him. Oh man alive, I mean I know I slag him off but I do, I don't really like him either. I just think he comes across appallingly and I think you know. When he just walked away with that mid-conversation talking to that bloke, they're doing it for his good really.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I know, but he's, he's, he's, he sound like a fat. But, um, but you know, I mean, yeah. That was close, wouldn't it? When having sex, you know, apparently thinking of Rick Waller. Oh, he helps. Oh, don't look what's happened. Exactly. Is that the reverse effect? Oh no, me and the car. If you're with a lady, apparently, that works.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I know, he's out. He's out. He's out. He's out. He's out. He's out. He's out. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. No, no, I think next week they kick him out because I read something about, um, they get rid of him next week, because of his attitude and the first time I read it, I thought he'd actually ate someone's at. But it was... He's got rid of him because of the attitude. tue. Oh everything you think of now is puns. You can't get puns out of your head, can he? Oh God, you're great. Look at his little face. That is so good. How long have you been working on that? You've got to love you. Give him that. That's a real joke. Look at his face. He knew it was funny. He said it to be funny and it was well done I'm just interested I just want to dissect it because it was brilliant and I'm wondering how long you've
Starting point is 00:12:07 been working on it about two weeks I hope it was worth the wait I got well well done the Hattitude well I don't think there's only one band that can talk that another band from Manchester Oasis minds and there's Jackson on XFM, 104.9. I mean, James, Steve Merchant, Carl Pilkinton. Right, getting towards that time where Carl really kicks into action. We've got the quiz. We've got rockbusters. The quiz that's a bit like blockbusters, but mainly around music.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Yeah, and a pun, a scenario, based word play by Carlin, you know how good he is at that. Can I tell you what the prizes are this week? Is they worth playing for? Please do. Okay, we got on DVD, the Manic Street Preacher's Greatest Hits on DVD, the videos I'm assuming. The film human traffic, it's a remixed DVD version of that. I think we were giving this away last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last last a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their, th. Starting point is 00:13:13 I don't see it. I think the Smith should be on there. We got Purple, Wolf, Cooper, Top, Clow, and Back, nickelback. There was another one around actually I seemed to have lost one of the prizes. Oh here we are. This is, you may see this advertised on TV, the Best Bands Everett the Best Bands ever album. And just just imagine who this is aimed at. It's got Oasis on the Nickelback Coldplay, da da da da da.. It's for people who didn't know they liked Indy. Exactly. I don't like Indy, but you do? Do you like this advert?
Starting point is 00:13:50 Yeah. Do you like this Advert? Well you like Indy. Well, I love Indy. I love this. I can't believe it. . .
Starting point is 00:13:58 . have own TV ads. I really like Indy. Do you love the T-Mobile TV ad? Yeah? You'll love this. He's got Royce Cup on there which is teaching there. So that's that's an album for people who don't like music. That's great. That's coming up, rockbusters. But I also have a movie because you know last week I gave away executive decision. Yeah. That was on TV. Yes. That was on TV last night. That was on TV. That th. That the TV. That th. That was on TV. That was on TV. Starting point is 00:14:38 Get it now on V. VHS is around. It was 699 I'm giving that away. That's great and that's his personal collection. Did you see that picture Carl Boyne? I don't think it's even rewind from when I watched it. Really? No it's not. You can rewind that yourself. Brilliant. That's a little touch of steaming action there. Did you see that picture that you bought in? Last week I was sorting it because I'm moving I'm sorting all my files out on that. And because this is the only school picture. He had one school picture taken when he was to, was that 10 in 1981? That was about 8 and 8. Okay tell the story. Why is that the only school picture I taken? Just because, no, I had them all, I was always had them taken, right? But my dad thought they were overpriced for what you get. Because really, you said that the whole idea of a good picture is like, not only the person
Starting point is 00:15:33 that's in it, but like the surroundings. So like if you're on holiday, he'll look at me and he'll go, oh yeah, you're looking well there. What's that hill in the back hill in the back, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the whole, the whole idea, the whole, their, the whole, their in the background or something like that. Whereas Rick Waller, catch it out. But all you get on these school pictures is like a blue background, isn't it? So he was like I'm not paying for that? Sure. And it was a big one, you get a bigger one than that, but that's just like a little passport size, isn't it? Yeah. That was £1.60. And he he wasn't really happy paying that because he said you could get like some some some some some some some some some some some some some some, their, their, their, their, their, he, th. He, he, he, he, he, th. He, he, he, he, he, th. Yeah. So um and so did he say you at the time that was the last time he was paying for a school picture? He said I'll get you one because it's good to have a picture of you at school yeah because they hardly ever went and all that. Um so what is that in the background that's my school dad I that's what is what is what is what is what is what is what is what is what is that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's they. So I was a good looking kid though, what are you doing with your mouth though, Carl? It looks like you're sort of, it looks like a bit like your Ventriloquist dummy.
Starting point is 00:16:30 What do you mean? Well it looks like you, sort of scrunching your mouth up or piercing your lips or something. Do you not think? Oh, what's happening with the head? Is your dad seen you smile before then? Well I think that's why he wanted to buy one as well that's like so he can remember when it was like, right it was like. Starting point is 00:18:08 The newspaper stopped scissors every time. Yeah, because I think they use that for bulletproof. Yeah, the time to try to tape of a newspaper will stop their scissors anytimes. No, definitely. So she used to, it used to always be on a Sunday night when like Songs of Praise is on or something, nothing was on the tele just before last summer wine or something. She used to get the... I think it was because school was next morning because Antiques Roadshow still does that for me. I see the Antiques Roadshow, I love it but I'm just thinking I got to go to school or work tomorrow. The road show I wish I've never really had that. When I worked I worked I work now. Don't, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, I, I, I, I the, I the, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their, because, because I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, because, because, because, because, because, because, because I th, because I thinks, because I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, I thinks, because I thinks, because were telling you, but yeah, so anyway, she'd get the newspaper, right?
Starting point is 00:19:07 She'd stick it in front of my eyes and... What does that say? Go on. So, so she'd, she'd... You inherited a lot from your mom, didn't you? So she'd caught again and she'd keep going and the problem is... Is that what you're boldness? I was saying is this that you have got hair but she has to get it right? It takes her to the back of your neck to get it even. She sort of removed the newspaper and she was like oh God. I said what
Starting point is 00:19:34 and she was saying, oh I'm sorry and like... Did it this happen? Did this? Did a this happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen happen? Did this happen? Did this your hair in this picture, do you think she was maybe sidetracked by an interesting article in the paper and really wasn't paying attention to what she was doing? Or did her favourite hymn come on? Yeah, she's nice. Or Tompo was rolling down the hill in a bar. So, yeah, I ended up with like, you know, a fringe sort of on that was on the railway station? Must have, that's when I started work, so you know, sort of 16, 17. And he's he the one that said you have the hair of a Chinaman? He's the one I was, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:12 He sounds like a wise man. Well, can I just stop, maybe maybe you should play a tune, but maybe you could bring in some photosome. Yeah, maybe you the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. I th. th. I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. Right, look at it. Is that your card? That's right. Boy, with the Arab strap, Bell and Sebastian. Coming next, educating Ricky. You two, electrical storm.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Steve, am I mental? Are we've been playing some great tunes. You're a genius. Yeah, on X F Fane, I'm a wonderful. And now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and now, and I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look. You're not mental. You're genius. Yeah. Our next event, wonderful, and I'm Oka Jemez, with me Steve Merchant and Carl Pilkington. Carl Pilking, now, the talks about the acclaimed educating Ricky. Right, well just in case anyone's new, doesn't normally listen. Basically, I'm educating Ricky. Do a bit of research in a week, find stuff, news, history, anything that's interesting. Three stories are given a nice little headline, you take your pick. Between now and three you're going to learn three things. Yeah? Yeah. So the headlines are, I'll be no buying one of them.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Ha ha ha. Give us that again? I'll be no buying one of them. Can you start again? I'll be no buying one of them. Nice, okay. We've also got Hippapotter News. Okay. And Chick can you believe it? Chick can you believe it? Well I'm gonna go be Hippottin News? Hippopott news? Yeah. Right, well this one it's, uh, I'm not going to go for the paupot news? Hippopotam news? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Right, well this one is, I'm not going to take the credit here. I heard Christian talking about this on breakfast, right? Because it's a good, good story that happened. Basically, I don't ever tell you about it last week when we're having our spaghetti. But, um... I think you did. I know what it is. I know what this is. Right, there's a little midget. There's a circus going on somewhere, I think it was in America.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Is that present day or old times? I'm talking like in the last three weeks. Okay. Right. A little midget, a circus, really packed out show, people are loving it. Steve, you all ask the same question I did, I know. So there's little, little midget jumping up and down on a trampoline. What's my circle is this? I say good money to see it?
Starting point is 00:22:38 So everyone's clapping and he's getting carried away. Because he can't believe he's like, he can't believe they're loving it. I didn't know they'd like a little person on a trampoline, but they love me. But you know what it's like when, if there's a crowd of people sort of encouraging you to sort of go higher and stuff? And I'm sure he knew he was getting out of hand. But he was jumping and he was coming down there all going, the yeah and he's going really high in the air right. So he's doing this, crowd are clapping. There's a hippo, right? Just sat next to the trampoline getting ready to come on and do his act. Oh right, I thought he was in the audience. That's it though. Getting ready to do his app. So, so he's sitting in the dress room and they go, five minutes Mr. Mus? Mrs. he's. he's. he's. the he's. the he. he. the he. he. the he. the he, the the the he, the the the tr. he, the tr. the tr. the the the the the the t, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, just, right, just, right, just, just just, just just just just just just just just just just, right, right, right, right. He's just, right. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's the the the the t. He's the the tape. He's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just, he's just. He's just mean he's sitting by the trampoline waiting to do that? Why is he sitting in the dress room and they go,
Starting point is 00:23:26 Five minutes, Mr. Mus? Five minutes, Mr. Mosse. So anyway, so the hippo's there. He's getting annoying to him. He's going, how can I follow this? How can I, this is really annoying. They're going to be, oh no. He's thin. He's he's he- he's going, he's going, he's going, he's going, the trampoline my pogo stick out he's never going to work Yeah, go on, so there's a info waiting. See it's a quite story and I just know he embellishes it or it gets slightly wrong.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Go on. So, so there's a midget jumping up and down. The crowd are going mad. The crowd are going mad. The crowd are going mad. The crowd are going mad. The. the m' the m' the m' the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is the m' is dicing with danger. Yeah. So, next thing you know, they're all saying hi-a-higher. He gives it one big, like, heavy sort of landing on the trampoline, goes really high, but goes off at a funny angle,
Starting point is 00:24:16 hypotenuse, yeah, and sort of flies off at a funny angle, hypotenuse. Sure. Flies off at a funny angle, hippo's there, hipo's there swallows him whole, crowd of clapping, thinking that's why the hippo was waiting there. Rubbish. Rubbish. Rubbish. It's not rubbish though.
Starting point is 00:24:40 But maybe there was an accident in a circus with Midget and a hippo, Abe. But at no point was this hippo, the hippo, I'm going, the hippo, who's a hi. H hippo, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's there, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's the hippo, who's there, who's there, who's there, who's the hi, who's there, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's, who's. Hipp. Hipp. Hipp. Hi, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who's. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi, who's hi, who's there, who's there, who's the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the hi, the the the the hi, the hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi circus with a midget and a hippo, Abe. But at no point was this hippo waiting to go on, I'm going, come on. The midget flew off at hypotenuse and landed in the hippo's mouth and was swallowed whole. This is what you embellished. That is great. I have to say though, Rick, when I heard midget tramp hippopotamus I was thinking actually waiting to happen yeah so yeah maybe I mean is it that that that you should never put those three together never it's a recipe for disaster everyone knows that midget tramboline hippopotam are you mental asking for
Starting point is 00:25:15 you know when he told me it he said and the midget he didn't mention he didn't mention the hippo at him and I said the told he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he said he said he said he said he said he said he he he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he didn't he said he didn't he didn't he didn't he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he t took he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he was was was was to to t took he said he said he didn't he didn't he didn't he was he the to to the the hippomas and he said the midget went on I and soon he fell off and the hippo at him and I said sorry what was the hippo doing there he went it's a circus I've never heard of a circus having a hippo no what can they do you can't drain their penny what do you like very deadly they're huge you got a you got a hippo in a circus he sure you're not thinking of Zippo he's neither claimed yeah it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't some sort of where Zippo was eating a midget and it's it's some sort of horrible sexual act no it was definitely I heard it on Brett first right oh okay sorry

This is what they're all working for. And writing about. Absolutely. Before you get the clues, let me just remind you of the
Starting point is 00:26:33 prizes you're playing for, we've got the Manix Street Preachers' Greatest Tips on DVD. We've got the film human traffic on DVD. We'vethis their current album? Yeah, I guess it's not selling very well, they're still trying to promote that. You can have that as well. If you are a fan of the Ford Fiesta TV ad, of the Vodafone TV ad, of the Vodafophone TV Advert, you will, the Pelican Brief starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. If you're not seen that, panned and scanned on VHS. So what are the clues? Do you know a pelican? I read the other day that has to turn its head upside down to eat. Give us the clues. So, rockbusters. Well, let me just explain. A bird, a bird has a gullet, and aophagus and a gullet is all in one thing.
Starting point is 00:27:25 It hasn't got peristalysis which is the movement that we have that can make food. So a bird has to can only rely on gravity. So it has to have its head up and has to shake, it can't eat. You were going to say that, were at your car? Yeah. So rock busters. You mentioned it earlier. One of last weeks was it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's the the the the their, it's their, it's their that, were you a car? So there are the two that I left. Which one's your name for? Chican you believe it is not that picture is it in that that we saw?
Starting point is 00:31:22 Which picture? The bloat with the... No no no no no right okay. God that was bad. Right okay. So... I just explain that. We can't really discuss this on there, can we? Well we can? Steve brought in Carl the best book ever, which is what is it? I found it when I was moving house. And he said what's number one? And he said what's number one? And he said, what's a bloke with a squid or something? And then the there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the bloc. the b. the b. the bloke. the bso. the bso. the bso. the bsoat. the bloat. the bloat. the bloat. their bloat. And, their oh no redone I think I know about this and it's the fellow that was found what he caused a landslide while having sex with a chicken and they pulled him off and there he is the chicken and so Carl could not believe his luck so it's not
Starting point is 00:32:14 that can you believe it I love that one yeah yeah right well we've talked a lot on the show about animals the ed that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they I I I I I I they I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was took I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I'm took I was I was I was I was the the the the the the the the the the on the show. Yeah, yeah, yeah, about animals without heads. We haven't! We haven't! We mean, no, we talked without cockroaches could live without a head for seven days? Yeah, we've talked about that. And then of course there was the well-known one about the fellow who had his head cut off and he blinked. He blinked and he said to his mate, count how many times a blink when my head comes off th, yeah th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, we, we, we've tho, we've their, we've the, we've the, we've the, we've the, we've the, we've the, we've the, we've the, we, we've, we've, we've, we' the, we' their, we' their, we's, we' th, we' th, we' th, we' th, we' th, we'er, we'er, we'er, we'er, we're th. We'er, we've tho, we've tho, we've tho, we've tha'-a'-ahahahea'-a'ea'a'a'-a'ea'-a'ea'ea'a'er, we've tha'a'a'er, we've to his mate, count how many times a blink when my head comes off. Yeah, when you told it to me you said his head came off and he said, as he said, he said, he was the vice-cite, count how many times I'll blink. And it was Nick Frost, I'd go, no, he said it before. And that was lovely. So yeah, we've talked quite a lot about things, head's it th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the th. the the th. the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the. their the. their their their their their their their their their their their their. His his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his his their their their their their their. His their. His their. His their. His their. His. His. His. He he. He he. He. He's their. He's their. He's their. He's th. He's head came. He said, he's head came. He said, he's head came. He said, he's head, he's head, he said, he's head, he said, he's head, he's head, he said, he's head, he's th. He said, he's their. He's their. He's then. Well this one, right? Back in 1945. He looked out of the day, got a specific date. Mate Jonathan sent this one, you know him as well, the lad at the BBC right, he emailed this one in. So thanks for that. Chicken, it's called Mike. There's a chicken called Mike. There's a chicken called Mike. A chicken called Mike. What happened was it was living on a farm right, loads of chickens knocking about and the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the date. Yeah, the date, the date, the date, got the the the the date, got got got got the date, got got got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the date, got the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thate. thateateateat, that, that, the that, the the thateat, that, the thateat, that, that, that, happened was it was living on a farm, right? Loads of chickens knocking about.
Starting point is 00:33:28 And the owner of the farm is like getting ready for tea and his wife says, go out and get a fresh chicken because my mum's coming around. So he thinks, well, I want to get a good one in, because I want to impress her. Back then, even then, they wanted to impress the mother-in-in-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-in'-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-mix-a-s. the-s'-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y getting their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-n'-n'-n'-n'-ha-hau-hau-hau-hau-ccc'-c'-hau-hau-hau-nosea-kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkiiiii wanted to impress the mother-in-law on that. So they said I'll just nip out and get one so he sees Mike chicken running around. Is it during the war after the war? 1945 I had to have that was after? No ended in 1945? Yeah September go on. So chicken's running about, you know that looks all right out of that one. So he picks it up and he cuts his head off, puts it on the block, cuts his head off, runs about a bit like they do, he thinks he'll stop in a minute, keeps running about, and what's going on here? He's now like chasing the chicken without
Starting point is 00:34:19 an head. He's saying he should die in a minute. Anyway, it doesn't die. Chickens walking around we know Ed. Lives for 18 months. Yeah. Chicken with no head. Yeah. What you said? Well, I'll tell you, I've heard this story before, Rick, and the explanation as I understand, it was that certain vital cords, spinal cords, weren't severed when the head came off. So that was why it continued to live. I don't know if that sounds plausible. It's fine, absolutely fine. How did it take on protein and energy? The fella who owned it, he said, well hang on a minute, he said I could kill it now. But I've got a wonder chicken here. But he's thinking, it must really want to live. Sure. All right. If it survived that, I've got a their. It. It's, I, I their, I, I their, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's their, I'm their, I'm their, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's that's If it survives that, I've got something here. So we, what he does, he gets a little eye droplet thing that he used to use on it, obviously not, not anymore, right? And he filled it with grain and water and it had a big hole in its neck where
Starting point is 00:35:18 its head used to be. And he, incredibly. And he dropped. You know what, this just I mean that that is possible then if it you know without without infection without without infection if he's taken on things it is possible right why what why did he do it how cruel is that I mean that was not cruel because it the chicken obviously you know he said he thought if he thou he thou he was a bit fed up a tou'l he would have been a to happy. Well it wasn't fed up at all because it had no brain. Well what do you mean well? I'm just saying what? It was nothing it was just sinew and nerves and electrical impulses breaking down energies right that's all it was it didn't have a brain so it was but I'm worried
Starting point is 00:36:02 about the psychology of keeping a pet without a head. I'm worried more about what the farmer was thinking than the chicken. I tell you this, what I'm, the question I'm asking is, was the mother-in-law impressed? I mean that's why he's set out, that's why it's out the shot. This is lovely but it running around the yard! Oh dear. So, there you've learned something there. Yeah, I have learned something. Yeah, so one more.
Starting point is 00:36:32 That farmer, I've learned that farmer was very strange indeed. I have to say, to be fair to Carl, when I read it, the reason he kept it alive, he sold, he got charged people to come and see the incredible headless chicken called Mike right so there we are that's great so a tune Steve a tune yeah I just thought I'd like to hear a little bit more from that any ID album we played some of this from from then when it first came out many many moons ago since then it's gone on it's one of awards all sorts and obviously any I'd no they're no the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th I th I th is no no no th is no th is no th. th. th. Starting point is 00:37:13 any Rd from their album in search of and that's things are getting better after the break we got more educating Ricky and the results to this week's Rockbusters. And Richard Ashcroft? Oh, Dynamite. Richard Ashcroft, check the meaning on XFM. 104.9. Wicked your values with me Steve Merchant. Carl just remembered a little story he was excited to tell you. Okay. Go on. Oh are you going to tell him? Oh, okay. When we went into this cafe last week after Carl had got his soil we got two big bags of soil I was going get a bag to buy me. And he was an ark and walk home after about 10 yards he was going on my arms at so he had to get a cab. So we stopped in this cafe he had spaghetti. You're loving it weren't you? It's good it's good little day out and there was a woman that worked there and she sort of, I could see her sort of looking at me and she said, and then she came and I said, are you off the tele?
Starting point is 00:38:09 And I went, um, yeah, yeah, she went, yeah, Chris Moyles. Oh, beautiful. Oh, beautiful. And I just laughed. And we both started laughing. And I went, oh, I'm not, Chris. What, oh, the thing in the office so yeah yeah yeah no the funny thing was she said she went and said I saw you on Jonathan Ross that's it yeah she'd obviously watched the Jonathan Ross show thinking Chris Miles is you know
Starting point is 00:38:39 lost his looks a bit whatever that that's what I found funny the fact that she must have watched it thinking that. Yeah. Yeah. She went, I saw you like, I saw you the other day and I was like, yeah, yeah, she went, oh and then we were still sort of laughing I was thinking, no it's fine, it's thin, I was thinking, imagine that. Just like, great. There's not a better one to pick. That's just appalling. Oh, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's their. That's that's that's that's their. Yeah, I's. Yeah, I's. Yeah that was lovely. It's the second time as well. That you've been mistaken for Chris Moyles? Yeah. Yeah, oh man you've got to feel bad about that. I've had um... I've had um... Johnny Vegas, yeah, that can I think like people are going up to Miles going? You, uh, you do that thing about working in an office? Yeah, well, the well, I don't know. I don't know whether I hope th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that that that that that that thi thi thi thi' that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that that that th. Final one, you've had a hippopotam news. You've had chickenppapotter News, you've had Chikenn you believe it, and the last one is I'll be no buying one of them.
Starting point is 00:40:31 I love that one. All right. Interesting one this. I mean, I spent probably three days looking for this stuff. And another one that I came across, right? And I was going on the internet and I also, I also looked at, I came across, right? And I was going to use, it was a great life you've got. I was just, you know, going on the internet and that. And I also, looking magazines, found a story about a bloke who, I don't know, he was messing
Starting point is 00:40:55 about with a chainsaw and he was... He was juggling the midgett. He was juggling the midget and, taking his alligator for a walk and go on. And his arm come off, right? Come off! What do you mean his arm come off? The chainsaw took it off. Yeah, okay. Oh, so he's like, oh.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Again, excellent. He's going, oh, no. So, uh, there's a picture of, he's a, sort of balancing but he's getting on with his life he's happy and everything's fine he's not complaining it's his own fault he's got no one to blame right so anyway he goes to the doctors and the doctor said I can do something there so he goes well it's all right you know I'm getting by all right don't worry about it and he goes no no we've got an arm in right we can we can attach that a real arm from the we we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can we can the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th to th th to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they they they they they they try try the try the the try the the the try the the the try the the the the the the the the who's I think they passed away or lost an arm or something and they lost an arm and didn't want it back yeah I love it are you using that no because I know someone because I know a
Starting point is 00:41:53 bloke yeah well can't you just put this one back on wow it's first come first serve really I was just I was just building a bionic man we replaced one with a robot so we've a spare one. So the doctor's going, let me put it on, he's like, well, alright then. So, so I do... So he does the operation. He's loving it. He's happy again because he said he can brush his teeth. Right, okay, if this is, if this is going to be, because now he can brush his teeth. Right, if this is going to be, and it was a leg, or it was a chimps arm, or it was the arm? It was the arm.
Starting point is 00:42:30 It was two left arms, right? I'm going to kill you. Oh, let's leave it then. What is it? What's the answer? No, it's and do it. So he sews it on and like I say he's happy, he's brushing his teeth, he can have a pint in the pub, he's lifting a pint with it, all his mates are happy for him. It goes on for about two years, everything's fine. Then it all starts
Starting point is 00:42:57 going flaky. Oh I knew it would. Was it made of chocolate? All right. So it all goes all like Gammy. It goes gammy. And it gets th, it all th, it all th, it all th, it all th, it all th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, like so so so tho, so so so so tho, so so tho, like so thoes, like so thoes, like so thoes, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. So, like, like, like, th. So, like, like, like, th. So, like th. So, like th. So, like th. So, like th. So, th. So, like th. So, like thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thoooooooes, thooooooes, thooooooes, thoooes, thoes, thoes, thoes all like Gami and then for some reason... it goes Gami and it gets longer. Of course it does. So there's a picture of him right, stood in the magazine, he's stood there with his arms by his side. One arm's normal. The other one is like past his knees. It's really, he can pull his socks up without bending over. So is this going to be they gave him the arm of an eight year old child who would have been the tallest man in the world? Now he just said, oh what am I going to do and the doctor said, oh there's not much we can do and left it. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:43:34 What, what, wait a minute, you tell us the explanation. What, what, what, was it an incredible plastic arm? An incredible expanding arm? Did he fight crime later? No, well that's the end of the story. You've got no finds explanation. That's why I didn't pick it. But you just told it to us anyway. Yeah, but I'm just saying the sort of knowledge that the tho' the thiiii's tho. tho. tho-n' tho-nigh. thrown thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thi's thininin' tho' tho' tho' thi' thrown. thin' tho' tho' tho' their sort-a' their sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort sort the sort sort sort the sort the sort the sort the sort the sort the sort the sort thi's thi's thi's thi. thi's thi. thi. thi. thro-a' thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. thrown. throwneee. the. the. thea'a'a' tooooo' thea' too-a' toy. thau. thea' adult arm. They couldn't have given him an arm. I don't know. It's just why I'm... It's rubbish, okay, isn't it? It's not. It's not. It's rubbish. It didn't happen. And you should have read to the end of the article, Carl. No, I did. And he said, you know, he's not happy and he wishes he wouldn't have had it done and all that and you know.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Is sure this wasn't entirely unexpected? No seriously he was saying you know his teeth are nice and clean again because he could brush him and that but his arms getting in the way ruined his shirts and everything. So I'll leave that. Let's play a tune let's come back with the next one because I love the fact that this is like Ronnie Corbett that's that wasn. that wasn. that wasn. that wasn. That was that wasn. That's this was this was this was this this was this was this this this was this this was this this this was this was this this this was this this was this was this wasn't this wasn't this wasn't this wasn't this wasn't was this wasn't this wasn't this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was was was this wasn't was was this wasn't was this wasn't was was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this wasn't was this was this was this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this th th. th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. thus the is the thus the is thus the the is the is this this this this this next one because I'm not the this is like Ronnie Corbett telling one of his jokes that's it right that wasn't even the story he was gonna play it man oh god that's alright in it Travis level come through I'm quite like that on XFM 104.9 which of a Steve Merchant and Kyle Pilkinton in the chair we've had the answers in, it's rockbusters, it's the results.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Carl, give us the winning answers. Right, Steve, you search for a winner. I will. A random. So the first one was, the fellas only got one badge left. I don't have no idea. The initial was E. Go on. Well they got the fellas only got one badge left. I don't have no idea. The initial was E. Go on.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Well they got the answer now, see? I think you should. That was his last sticker. Yeah, elastica. The band elasticker. I'm not sure. It doesn't work. The word sticker and the badge are not interchangeable.
Starting point is 00:45:39 And it's not his last stickerica so someone's got it oh so so say a different word and it works also if the band is is lastica then it works god if only just he would have named it if she'd have just gone let's call it is lasticker then we'd have yeah second one what was the clue The unmarried lady is a frie-eat-he out with. Go on. That's Miss Dinomate. Miss Dynamite. Doesn't work. Yeah but it's been running for four weeks. We've done the obvious one. It doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Miss Dinomite. Again if she'd have called us out Miss Dinner mate it would work. She didn't. See what what what's happening is pop stars are letting you down by naming themselves incorrectly for your clues. Those don't work. They don't count. And the last one, I really, really love that woman, I love everything she does. That was M. That was Madonna. Yeah, Madono. I'm gonna give you that. That work, yeah. Right. That's the end of that feature, that th that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that the that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the th. the the the thi. the the. the. that-upooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. that's that's Madono. I'm going to give you that. That work, yeah. Right, that's the end of that feature until you can get ones that work. Okay, so you won't hear anymore that, because it's rubbish. You're running out already?
Starting point is 00:46:55 Do you just think of the first three things are coming in mind and make them fit? Just think of the thinks three three it fits it fits if it doesn't it doesn't matter. I just went through it. Rubbish. It was rubbish. Right, play a record. Hang on, we've got a winner. We have. Actually you say all this Rick but lots of people got them right.
Starting point is 00:47:13 Yeah. I don't know what that proves. I don't know if that says you and well done to them. They get the Pelican Brief and some other treats. Says you're right. I look forward to that. Says you're right for understanding Carl. Excellent. Swade's new one. Obsessions?
Starting point is 00:47:35 On XFM. the today. I'm Ricky James obviously Steve Merchant, Carl, that's about it and we got sidetracked on the last educating Ricky. You telling me about a man whose arm grew? Well, something went wrong. I'm not saying it grew, I'm not saying it grew, just saying... What, what, what, the rest room shrunk? It went long.
Starting point is 00:47:58 It went long. Did it grow or what, did it come loose? That's what I was thinking. Oh, so it's hanging by a thread that's made it look long? It was in the skin. It's like how you can stretch a pair of tights if something is too heavy. Arms are very much like tights. They are very much like tight. So the one that we didn't get round to on educating Ricky was, I'll, I, I of them. Go on. Are you familiar? No, of course. With the same white elephant. Something is a white elephant? Hold on. You phoned me last night and said what does white elephant mean? And I told you.
Starting point is 00:48:42 Yeah, I know, but I know where it came from, but I just was wondering what it was about. So how, in what way is educating Ricky, you calling me up and asking me some of the today? Well, you know what came about? You've given away some of the secrets of the show there? It would appear. I didn't realize he was phoning you for information. Well, he just asked me what the term white elephant went elephant, thiaoquial. Did he say, why are you interested Carl no reason? No go on. What it is ages ago when... So what do we understand white elephant to mean? What's some of that's useless that's like a bit of a, you know, uh, you know,
Starting point is 00:49:17 you know, some of that you wouldn't want around this just stood there doing nothing. Yeah. I'm looking at you the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. So, th. So, th. What's, th. What's, th. What's, th. What's, th. What's, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why is, th. Why th. Why th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, th. Why stood there doing nothing. Yeah. I'm looking at you, Carl. So, uh, so years ago when people used to use elephants. Years ago, go on. When people used to use elephants? Yeah, more than they do now. More than they do now. This doesn't involve a midget, does it? So, um, so you know, they use them in the workplace and stuff. Yeah, as factories security they they they they they they they they they they they the workplace and stuff. Sure, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:45 It's a new stuff that's a teenager. Yeah, security guards. Can't trust them with the buns though. That's why they stopped using them. Oh, God, go on. So there was loads of, loads of elephants knocking about and the thing is right. You couldn't move from. If you have a lot of something, you also have a lot of Demick ones, don't you? A lot of what? You know, sort of Demikey ones, ones that aren't right really. Demick?
Starting point is 00:50:09 Well, you know, like they weren't, they weren't properly. They weren't properly. They weren't properly. So, what are you doing? What? What are you started making words up? Yeah, you Stanley Unwin, re-incarnated? Demikie? Oh yeah. There was a lot of albino elephants knocking about. Where? Where is this? Um, old me? Afrika. Africa? Yes! Ah, should we say Africa? Yeah. If an answer's got a question mark at the end, I'm not sure. It's another Africa or India but I'll give you a clue. Were these elephants, do they have big ears or little ears? I didn't sort of notice the elephants.
Starting point is 00:50:50 What I noticed is they were white because there were albino elephants. Okay. So that's why the head in Albino buying one of them. Okay. I mean all right. So what would happen is people who didn't know what they were doing, like you know you get people making a mistake buying cars that are full of problems and that. Back then when people were buying elephants, they'd go up to someone and say I'm after an elephant
Starting point is 00:51:12 and the fellow would say, yeah, I've got one here for you, this is a nice one. And it was all white and stuff and it had like blue eyes. You should never trust a used elephants. thus. the elephant. the elephant. the elephant. the elephant. I I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. th. I was th. th. th. th. th. there. there. theree. theree. theree. tho. thu. thu. the. tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. That's. That's. I. That's. That's. I. That's. I. That's. I. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was elephant's white with blue eyes. Right. So, uh, so, uh, so a fellow who didn't know what he was doing would buy the elephant and he'd get it back and it'd be all sort of lazy and stuff and what were doing this stuff. And he'd say what's, what's up with this and his mate who's a bit of an expert with elephants and go, oh, where have you bought that? And he's like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he, he'd he, he'd he, he'd he, he'd he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he he, he the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th th thi thi thi, he'd thi, he'd thi's the the the the the the the the the the he he he he he he, he'd he he, he goes oh all this embellishing nonsense he does with a story shouldn't have all that so he goes why and he says it's only I'll be now isn't it and he's like what does that mean and he said oh it's it gets tired it it's not that good at doing work and that you shouldn't steal
Starting point is 00:51:55 this from you but elephants back then were like a god you know what I mean you you couldn't say oh I'm you you you you you you you you you th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thu th the th they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they tou try try try try try try try they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they of this, then I'm going to abandon it or anything, because elephants were seen as like pretty high up on the chain of things. So they'd end up being stuck with an elephant, that's an albino, couldn't do much, gets tired, basically gets in the way, so they said, that's where they're saying like, you know, but a bit of a white elephant there. What do you reckon Rick? th th thin Rick? thin Rick? thi thi thi thi thi thi, I I I I th. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I tho, I tho, I tho, I'm thi, I'm tho, I'm tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th... th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. You, th. You, th. You th. You thi, you thi, you that, that, that, that, that, they're, theeeeea. It's, they're they're they're they're they're they're they haven't been educated, I feel like I've lost something, so like that time in my life I can never get back. I feel like I've sort of been soiled and I don't know where to start. I'm angry. Do you know what I mean? I'm angry. Yeah, I can see that. And all that rubbish around, look at his little face. What was that all that shit about a secondhand elephant salesman and his mate knew about elephants?
