The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S3E4 (November 22, 2003)

Episode Date: September 4, 2022

During the hiatus, Pilkington signed on with Gervais and Merchant’s talent agent, and negotiated a deal with XFM to get Mondays off in exchange for continuing to do The Ricky Gervais Show on Satur...days. This was a frequent topic of contention during this run with Gervais repeatedly accusing Pilkington of being lazy for demanding an entire day off on exchange for doing 2-hours of work on Saturdays. This show began airing again in November 2003 and broadcast for 12 weeks until January 2004 when Gervais and Merchant went on hiatus to film series 1 of their new show, ‘’Extras’’.

Starting point is 00:00:00 Mollish Chambers Kings of Leon on XFM 104. I'm Ricky DeVayes with me Steve Merchant, Carl Pilkington and England the world champions again then. Oh, it's brilliant. It was amazing, wasn't it? See, I'm not a rugby man at all. I never watched rugby. I never watched rugby. I think the last time I think was when we won about 12 years ago whenever it was. And I got into it last week because I realized we were doing so well because I watch England win anything. Yeah, I don't care what?
Starting point is 00:00:30 In fact, I wasn't into war when I was little until I was little until I was little until I realize we were so bloody. We are really good at it. It's brilliant. But yeah, oh yeah, fantastic. That's it, that's all I've got, that's all I have today. It does, sometimes I watch it and it does, it does remind me of when I play rugby, because one of them will boot it down the field, then someone will catch it and boot it straight back again. Yeah. Which is essentially how you played rugby.
Starting point is 00:00:52 I was made to play rugby. And I don't think, I'd get ridouched the ball about 20 times in the two years it was compulsory. I was terrified. I was terrified. I can't, I'm a terrible batsman, I'm all right at bowling, but it seemed like the pastime for people I went to school was to injure you. Yes. It was funny to see someone get a cricket ball in the head. Absolutely, yeah. I never relaxed into rugby because the first day I was going to play it, my mom, I swear to go my mother said, you're playing rugby today,
Starting point is 00:01:28 you got the kit and everything, enjoy it. Be careful, there was a kid in my school who broke his neck. And I, see it so, yeah, thanks for that. See you took to go. So, yeah, no, no, no, no,etrified. One thing, broken neck, is that all, should you get better in a couple of days? Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. Enjoy the game though. Yeah, no, it was. It was absolutely petrified from that day. So at least American football, you know, helmets. Yeah, but anyway, no, no injuries. But, uh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, th. Enjoy, the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, th. to. to. to. Enjoy, th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the th. Enjoy, th. Enjoy, th. Enjoy, th. Enjoy, tried to try to play it but it's awkward when you've got glasses. I don't know if something you didn't really play the glasses on.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Yeah quite of what I couldn't see anything could I? How else was I going to play? Oh my god and they... So you're bound to be cautious because inevitably you're a bit more cautious when you got glass next to your face person on the pitch as well? Yeah yeah I mean you were like when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when when you were like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. I was the the the the the the they. I I was you were the they. I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like. I was like. I was like. I was like. I was like. I was like. I everyone else was about five, two? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, so you were... Towering above them. And with glasses on. Just with the glasses. And you've got pretty cool glasses now. That's very much.
Starting point is 00:02:31 You've had a bit of a makeup. It's a bit of a makeup. I said, yeah. sort of bottle. Pretty much. Is it true? You've never been able to mosh at a concert. I try to mosh. I've always watched people stage dive in, moshing at concerts. I've always watched, that looks like brilliant. You know when they're, they ride above everyone's heads on someone's hands. So everyone's say, yeah. And I've always wanted to do that because I'm a big rock music fan. And the only time I did that I did th thage the th. I did the the th. I did th. I did th. I th. I the th. I th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've the th. I've always always always always always always always watched the the the only time I did mosh was it raging against the machine. I love the idea of a band called Rage Against the Machine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm aimed at a man with glasses.
Starting point is 00:03:12 He wrote mush. Well, he was at the Reading Festival, and I think the Leetting, I forget his name, he went, um, can I just remind everyone that racism and fascism and fasc are on the rise in Europe again. Let's not let it happen. What did you do? And we all cheered, obviously. If there's one thing that guarantees a cheer at Reading Festival, it's dang with fascism. And what did they do about it after concert? Pretty much went back and... I didn't go to Europe then and try and stop. They didn't go to Europe then. I don't think they got involved politically in Europe. I think. Don't they they're don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't th. Don't the. Don't they the. Don't they they they they they their. Don't their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I their. I their. Yeah. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I their. I th. I their th. I th. I the. I the. the. thea. thea. thea. the their the the their the their their the their the think sure but um I tried to mosh and I got got moshing and um glasses flew off and I went I went I remember because it was a real plane away you know I was just going careful I've just like I've dropped my glasses can we just be careful loads of
Starting point is 00:04:03 loads of kids in hoody tops, just going mental. And they're all jumping over time, can we just calm down for a second? Let's got me silly. Yeah. It was absurd. I had to kind of, you know, you know, scrabble around on the floor and thankfully they were okay and they didn't get broken. So what couldn't you do then?. What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what glasses? I mean, it's like that you couldn't do anything.
Starting point is 00:04:26 It's a blur. Really? It's a blur, definitely. God. Yeah, it's like being kind of punched truckled. So yeah, you can't play sports when you've got glasses. But why not contact lenders? Because they're not strong enough?
Starting point is 00:04:38 No, I just, they seemed a bit fiddly. Ha ha! Brilliant! Bit of Lou Reed? Is that what you want? Yeah, Satellite of Love. Classic, a Retro Cut. Lowe Read, with a little help from David Bury there in the background. Satellite of Love on XFM 104.9. I'm Ricky Javes, with me Stephen Merchant and Carl Pilkington. Now Steve, you know how Carl won't do anything outside his jurisdiction and he moans about stuff. It's got one job, we're doing about five things
Starting point is 00:05:17 in the week. We just turn up and he's always available. He moans about, he goes, oh, lucky you caught me, right? He's chatting. He's just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just. It's just. It's just. It's just, it's one. It's one. their. their. their. their. their. their. their, it's their, he's their, he's their. their. their, we're their, we're their, we're their. We're their. We're their. We're their. We're their. We're their. We're their. We're their. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We. We. We. We right he's not he's chatting he's just when he's one of those people that wingers enough and people think he's overworked so he got Mondays off right he's just one a winger yeah well anyway two hours on a Saturday this is what the phone message he left me Wednesday on my mobile but just totalking about certain things that are going on at the moment. What he does did you know? Oh Duncan who mentions is my agent and you know you understand a few other things but this is the sort of message I get from Carl right? Winding. All right 7 plus 12 Wednesday. Um just gettingthose of people calling me all the time about shit. Yesterday DVD's signing for BBC London. I don't work there, but I've been dragged into that.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I've got a woman on leaving a message from Talk to R going on about, do you want to go and see Pop Idol again? All right? They're just saying, uh, you and some listeners can go. So I'm sure you'll love that. I've got Jim Benner wanting you to introduce the tin buckets at the Astoria. So can you just like let Duncan know that I'm doing his job while he's sat on his ass with his thumb firmly up his ass, can you let him know that I'm running around like a so shi' out for you.??? th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that's all all all all all all all all all all all all right. Alright. Alright. All all all all that that that tho tho thumb firmly up his ass and you let him know that I'm running around like a shit out for you all right see you later
Starting point is 00:06:47 I know I know but that's the kind of phone message he's leaving but but but but but he's even annoyed that he gets a phone call I remember he got a phone call for you to do a voiceover didn't pass on you missed a voiceover that was thousands of pounds no I did pass it on though I told you. I said someone had phoned. Yeah. That's not good enough. But who's that? Well she didn't say and I didn't ask but of course she said. She didn't say. Rubbish. So you didn't take the number down? She's when she went oh can you tell Steve to call me and you went yeah. Yeah well I just thought you'd know her already already already I'd know I'm th you're th you're th you're th you're th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' the the' thin' tho that's thi' that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's to say th. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. Well. th. thin't the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. that's the. th Unbelievable. I don't know how he's gone back on me. You know what he was picking on it. Yeah, exactly. I'm saying. I'm defending. Why is he having to go at you? Because he's having to go at you on the phone? But he never picks on Ricky because he knows you are his bread and butter.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Seriously, you know, you know,'m a pushover, I'm a nice guy. He's scared of you, I can't believe, I don't know how it works. Is that true? I'm always sorting you out with tickets, I'll look after you, I'm not saying you're sorting out, tickets and lager out. What, what's it? I don't like to know and I'm busy and that, right? I've sorted you out tickets for gigs, right? What somebody doesn't even turn up to? Yeah, we won't even go on about that, right? Larger...
Starting point is 00:08:11 Sort of like the cure he complained it was boring. Yeah, it was that big drummer Larger that you had and you said, oh, put that in my room. It goes missing it gets nicked. Then you have a go out me because it got nicked. Yeah. I get you another one. You make me carry it around town for you for half now then you say I can't be both taken it home. Can you take it back to work for me? Yeah. But interestingly this is like a year so it's still still pressed on you. Oh, so you didn't want to give me the 50P back that you owed me? That was the same day he was giving him about 40 quids with a lager. But see, this is my point at the time.
Starting point is 00:08:51 It's not the 50P, in terms of money is not what it's important. The fact that you think you don't have to give, not you, it's only 50P, I'm not going to give it to you. You know what I mean? There's got to be rules, otherwise it's chaos, Carl. Come on, mate. All right? I don't want to fall out about it. No, it's not so. Should we kiss him make up? Do you want to do it?
Starting point is 00:09:14 Yeah. Yeah. R.A.M. and Animal. Animals would sing that. Animals would be. R.M. and their animals would be. R.M. and they're animals. What are you talking about it? Well, no. I'm just, I'm just thinking I wonder if I was on a video for Animals and the animal. What? On a DVD, an animal's DVD. Huh? What are you saying? I'm just, it's R-E-M there, it's just a good link. R-E-M-A-M-A-M-A-Nimals on a DVD would be, stand-ups out, buy it. H&V and Virgin. Well, no, I'm just saying you should plug you. No, it's funny. I'm not plugging it, it came up in, the animals from R.E.M. came up. Well, I don't think you should plug your DVD. Well, buy it now. It's a really good stand-up DVD. If you're going to buy anything, I mean, I also balance this out. If you're going the the the to, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I, I, I don't, I, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't that, I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't that's th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't know't that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that, I don't the the the office series too because I get money for that. That's been on tele, animals, see, animals hasn't been on tell. The office has been on tell.
Starting point is 00:10:28 It's involved with it. But I don't get any money for the animals. No, no, that's what I mean. I get everything from animals. Whereas I've got to share the office with you and some of the other actors. Whereas I get the whole, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion, the lion's, the lion's, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi, their, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, um, is, um, is, is, um, the lion's share of animals, it's all mine you see. So by... I mean the truth of it is that it's not, I mean it's your stand-up and it's not great, it's a bit weak. A lot of the observations are quite poor. No, no, no, no, no. No, but you're a great actor. I'm rubbish in the office. One trick, I agree. animals, whole new side. Yeah. But frankly you've been doing 15 quid. You've been doing so much publicity on TV that you know if people have seen it all, they'll probably seen
Starting point is 00:11:07 all the best clips. I mean there's only a couple of decent gags. It's only really the dance and you can get that on a JPEG. Some other great stuff in there. Some other great stuff stuff in there. No, no. Phoenix nights is better. So by Phoenix nights. the the the the the the the the their. So, the their. So, the they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're. So, they're they're they're they're they're they're they'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They'll. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They's. They. They. They. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. So, they's. I. So, they're. I. I. I. I. I'll. I'll. I'll probably. they're probably. the the the the the the the the the they're probably. We'll probably. I'll probably. I'll probably. So, they're probably. So, they're they're. So,'s that. You probably heard most of the standard observations on this show. So... Right. What have you got for us? Available in H&B? Go on. Well, I'm annoyed. Oh, office. I was walking away from the show last week. I was walking on as Berry Street. Like to look at the records and the records. And I was on my mobile phone and I was trying to wait to someone. And uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh I the the the they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they're they they they're they're they they they're they're they're they they they they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're to to to to to to to to Berry Street like to look at the records and that record were I was on my mobile phone and I was trying to wait to someone and what can only be described as a prostitute go on still on the street was a woman that gives you sex for money yes that is a prostitute yes that's what I thought go on and as I was walking by she said you want to buy sex you want to buy sex no no you sure it was not to you to you to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to the to to their to their their was to their you to their you to their was to to to to to to their you to their their their their so so I was to to to to to to their so I was their so I was their so I was their so their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they. I was they. I was th th the. I was thee. I was try. I was try. I was try. I was th. I was the. I was the. I was they. I was the they. I was the sure I was no market trader giving six plums or something. No, it was definitely.
Starting point is 00:12:05 No, it was definitely a prostitute. And what annoyed me about it, what I wanted to pick her up on something was the fact that I was on my mobile phone. It's like, can you imagine who would I, what am I going to hang up? Sorry, Mumm, can I call you back? You know you say you want me to meet more women. And thak I thapapapapapapapapap you tha that tha tha that tho you that tho you that that tho that you that you that you that you that you to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. tho. thi thi thi. the. theate. theate. theate. theat thoooooooooooooooooooooo. I you know you sent me that 30 quits for my birthday. Sorry, Mr Johnson, I'm really excited about the job. Can I call you back? I'm just going to negotiate with a whore?
Starting point is 00:12:29 And it was like, it was just so you can tell that she was clearly probably desperate for crack or a lace fix of smack. So she was've seen this in films. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Take you out for a meal, what sort of gone out of the window and she was just there, desperate running around the street. Did you go out of a window? Because that's another thing they sometimes do, specialist ones. I was shot because I've never been a proposition before like that. Really? It's weird, isn't it? Carl? Cahe. I think thin, I they they's, I th, I they's, I th, I th, I th, I th, th, th, th, th, th, th, they're, they're, th, th, th, they're, th, they're, th, they're, they're, their, their, th. Yeah, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I've, sort, sort, sort, sort, sort, sort, sort, sort of, sort, sort th. Yeah, sort of approached a lot because they tend to sort of go for people who look like they haven't got much chance sure and I'm not being mean no no no no I'll let you go back to it in what way aren't you being mean by saying that Steve knows is a little bit odd looking I don't think well no he does you know you know but it's not whether what he he thinks of his looks it's what he talks to to th th you thi tho tho tho tho thi thi tho thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi tho tho tho to tho tho tho thi thi thi thi tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thu thu thu thu thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thin thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to to to to thi to to to to to to to to too too too thi too too thi thi thi thi thi thi th know, no, but it's not what he thinks of his looks,
Starting point is 00:13:25 it's what he thinks of you talking about his looks on... No, but it's like how you were talking before about, you know, your eyes are bad. It's nature's little way of saying, look, nothing to see here, right? Don't get that. I don't know what you mean. But when you look in the mirror and that, they've gone, look, he hasn't got the looks, let's make his eyes bad, right? Nothing to see you. That's what I'm saying, you're balancing it out, right?
Starting point is 00:13:51 Yeah. And it's funny, right? Now we're on the topic. Sorry, Johnny Depp. Well, listen, but you know what you look like? I'm in a... I'm gonna... Seriously, can I be honest with you? You look like, you know if you've got like a balloon, a hot air balloon, right? Just a little balloon, like a party balloon?
Starting point is 00:14:14 If you drew a little face on it, right, and inflated it about half way, that's what you look like. Right, I won't. No, play a record. I don't want to get into this. Listen, now you've got onto this, let's just nip it in the bud now. I'll tell you something that I wasn't going to tell you because I think it was out of the whole of. Right? It was on the tube, right? Well, I was. Someone told me they were on the tube, right? And, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, let, the, let, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let's, let's, let's, the, let's just, the, the, they. Let's just, the, they. Let's just just just, the the the, the they. Let's just, they. Let's just, the they. Let's just, let's just the women saw the poster, that's out of the moment with you and Rick on it, right? So this woman apparently goes, oh look, there's Ricky. Ricky's on the radio, right? And the other woman goes, oh yeah, don't you listen to it? So she goes, oh I didn't know he was on the radio. And she goes, oh I didn saw his Steve. I saw it outside.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Because he didn't like he found this bad. She said, oh, look at that person he's with. So she goes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She said, that's Steve. She said, I'm kind of, I was sort of aware that he looked odd because Carl mentioned it on the radio. So it wasn't as much as of a blow to me, but I can to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to the mentions it on the radio. Yeah. So it wasn't as much as a blow to me, but I can see how it was a bit of a shock to you. Yeah. So that's weird, isn't me sort of telling this one to say anything. That was all happened without anybody else sort
Starting point is 00:15:38 of bringing it on. Yeah, yeah. Do you know what I mean? So... Was it... Sorry, you seem to be relishing this. I can't just sit here and take it and that. No.. Well, I mean I was mistaken for Johnny Vegas. Steve's got a story about that if you want to have a go at me. Well, someone just thought you were fat with a beard which is true. Well, you started it. No, I didn't. No, I didn't. You were milking it. I was laughing. You were egging him on. I sort of was. Yeah, I sort of was. But let's not, you know. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Starting point is 00:16:28 You don't need other friends, people who've helped you in your career. It's a good looking bloc. He's a good looking fella. Player Raffing. Out of time, luckily we're not out of time. Out of time, by blur luckily we're not out of time. I've got another hour and 25 to go. So it's not over yet on XFM 104. I'm Ricky Jabez with me, Steve Merchant and Carl Pilkington.
Starting point is 00:16:58 We've had quite a lot of emails as ever. I should just say because you know we're very lazy. We rarely reply or read out the emails. I should just say because you know we're very lazy. We're very lazy people and we rarely reply or read out the emails. But we do what... I never read the emails. So I rely, if I haven't replied to them or my mail, Steve opens my mail and reads my emails, so if I haven't passed on to you because I know you'll never reply. Sure. You know I'm just cutting out that. But I just want to say thanks for the emails. to all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the email. I appreciate it, I love it. But we've had them... I don't know to do anything towards it. Sure, we had an email from Jack. He just said he missed the last two weeks shows, as he missed anything? Not really. No. It's the
Starting point is 00:17:34 same stuff. I think Carl was having to go at Chinese, Chaged. aging well, he had a go out the gaze and he came up with a ludicrous story about a monkey that was impossible. So I don't think Jack's missed much. Go on. I've just had an email from the Pringles people. Oh they are, right, good, because it's finally, it's finally, the story about people getting, given cars, and Armani suits and trips abroad, and haven't had no but finally people are starting to you know realize what we're doing our impact on society and we've got a whole box of Pringle sent to us not on those little tubes the proper tubes
Starting point is 00:18:11 the footlong tubes so you know and I you know well what they said well the pringles they want them back noingles is, they're moreish, right? But how would I put it? You know the sort of thing, when I open them, and by that, I don't, when I pop, when I pop, when I pop, when I pop, I pop, I'm like... Well when I pop them open I can't stop eating them. Right, when you pop you can't stop. Yeah. I think that's because of the chemicals. I think that's like the chemicals. I think that like they're good chemicals. They're good chemicals. They're good chemicals. They're not bad chemicals. Lovely. So yes, I want some more pringles. Yes. I want some more pringles. It's. I want they. I want. I want. I want. I want. I want. I want. She is like, it's like American Beauty, but with with that, with different... It's like a little hut on the station. And it's like if you go to the seaside, you can thrown the thi's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, thin, thin, thin, the, thin, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, she's their their their their their their their, she's their, she's their, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's thin, she's thin, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, I I I I I I I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I don't thin, I don't tho-I's thooma' tho-I don't they. It's like an equivalent of that but it's just snacks everywhere. She's got bananas up to her chin. She's got chocolate coming out for her eyes, crisps either side of her. She can't move, she can't do 360 degrees. She's like packed in there. She has two hours of makeup before and over dressing her in there. Because I'll ask for something from the fridge and she cannot turn her head to see.
Starting point is 00:20:09 She used to go by feel alone just to feel the fridge and get stuff out and pass it. And off and I say that's not what I wanted, but she can't, you've got a letter off. It's extraordinary. But there's no music playing. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. Does. So if you're on Finchley Road or just want to pop down there, have a look at the snack woman because it is, uh, it's... How does she get refills though? I don't know how it works. I don't know how she goes to the to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go to go the the to go the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. toooilet toiletoilet toiletoilet toilet toilet toilet toilet toilet toilet tho. I tho. I her. That's, that's one of the jobs you would know. That's jobs I would not like. I've always worried about working in one of those big photocopy in places. Sure. Because it says, that's constant taste of toner. You know what I mean? It's so dry and just, I just imagine going to work with a hangover. Yeah. I was in that, I think it's the jobs. I'm. I'm. I'm. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. thi. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. I w. I w. I'm wor. I'm wor. I'm wor. That day, do I mean the photocopying shot? What's the best?
Starting point is 00:21:05 Well they probably have interesting things, like they've, you know, people going in and photocopy and... Porno mags? Can I have 30 copies of my a art? Right, yeah. Yeah, I couldn't make it to the staff party. Yeah, but I wonder if I a lazy joke in out you. I've done loads of stuff. I'm quite happy now doing what I'm doing. Yeah, you look happy. Yeah, I'm happy for them. Yeah, I'm happy for them. I'm happy and that. Yeah, what do we're happy for them? We are
Starting point is 00:21:40 the England. Happy for them. Yeah, what was we happy for them? We are happy for them. Yeah, happy for them. Yeah, happy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I. I. I'm happy. I'm happy. I'm happy. I'm happy. I'm happy. I'm happy. I'm happy. I? Yeah. I mean we didn't play, I did very little towards it. It was mainly joining, we'll consider the end of the contributing. Switching on the TV was about as much as I did. Exactly. And shouting, come on. Talking about jobs and that, though, I was reading the other day about, like, you know rubbish jobs that people have had on. I've got time when I work, just I'm not just get on just just just just just just just just just I'm just just just just I'm just just just I'm just I'm just just I'm just I'm just I'm just I'm just just I'm just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I'm not just I just I'm th. I just get th. I just get th. I just get pies, different jobs. Go on. Do you know either the terrible? Ivan. He, uh... Is that, yeah, his Russian guy, yeah, that was the Welsh fella. It was, he was bloody awful, but not as bad as his Russian cousin. Ivan, go on. He, uh, he had a fellow doing some work for him, right? This fellow, this fellow, he built his house. Uh, the terrible fellow was like... He was going, oh it's brilliant, you've done a good job there. I don't want you to build another one like that. Took his eyes out.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Just stopped him making an house like that again. Fly me. That's bad, isn't it? Why did you take away his trowel? Then he could have seen that he couldn't have built a house without a trout. You can't build a house without a trowl. Yeah. I suppose he probably later thought that. Once he'd be nicknamed Ivan the Terrible.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Yeah, yeah. Why? Why? Why? Ivan the Crafty at most. Exactly, yeah. Ivan the Jealous, you know, Ivan the Spoilt Brat, but Go to someone's today, that is bloody terrible.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I'm surprised you're not called Ivan the... Do you know what I mean? You're going to gone down in history. When were you reading about Ivan the Terrible? Or either the Terrible is the thing you remembered from this informative article? No, it was just little bits like that, talking about him. There was a thing about someone who worked for that fellow who painted the ceiling. Sisting the thing. A the the the the the thap stuff thap stuff thap stuff thap stuff thap stuff thap stuff thatatatatathe stuff th. th. thathe stuff. thathea thatheatheatheatheat. th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was that. It was that. It was a th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was the the the the the the the the the the the the th. It was a that. It was a theat. It was a theat. It was a theat. It was a the. It was? Yeah, there's a thing, a woman who worked for him in his house.
Starting point is 00:23:47 And, um... I love how you assimilate information when it's disbordering on the academic, or just the interesting and true. It's wonderful. Either the terrible, Gow someone's eyes out, built him an house, the fellow who painted that ceiling at a woman work for him. Imagine if you wrote that that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in that in a that in a the the the who painted that ceiling had a woman work for him. Imagine if you wrote that down in an essay. Imagine if you wrote that in a school essay.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Well you'd probably end up with not getting a grade or... Yeah, or thinking you've turned up to more than you had. Anyway, go on. The woman who lived in a shoe, go on. There was this woman who lived with him, and she used to like, you know, go out and do to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th and do and do th and do th and do all the shopping and that yeah but because she couldn't read all right he used have to draw everything that he wanted why can you just tell her I don't know no no wait that's an excellent point could she talk yeah but if it's a big list and that loads of of different coloured paints and stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:45 But why can she draw on a piece of paper? Why did he have to do? Because he's a better drawer, aren't he? That's the point. That's it. We were just looking for the logic of the story. You've found it. He's done it, player record. He's the Smiths on XFM 104.9 I'm looking to baves with me Steve Mergent
Starting point is 00:25:15 and Carl Pilkington. Carl over to you. This is the time where we play, well the world famous quiz isn't it? Rockbuster, yeah. Which is Blackbusters but with music. Yeah. Which is the, uh, the time, the time where we play, well the world's name quiz isn't it? Rockbusters, yeah. Which is, Blackbusters but with music. See a leader. That's a cryptic clues and that. Do you want to say? Not really cryptic, but go on.
Starting point is 00:25:34 We've got a number of DVDs. We've got a bunch of CDs here and also Ricky Gervais's live stand-up DVD. Animal, brilliant, which is not good at all. I really would not encourage people to buy that. It is, well, weak observations poorly performed. I would recommend the Office Series 2 on DVD. That's still available. I'm awful in that. You can actually see me forgetting some of my lines.
Starting point is 00:25:54 That's true. Go on. Right then. Just an example, might be new, I reckon people will be staying in today because it's raining and that, so might not have heard it before. So like... Or they have and they're not listening. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Well, whatever. Oh, good. You gave up on that, did you? Well, give us an example of the sort of thing. That, that, that long. I'm a broadcaster. Yeah. Words are my tool. Go on. All right, forget that. Come on, Baldie. Three, three clues then. Here's the first one. It's a band or an artist. Yeah. Right. I'm going to the northeast. What are you going there for? Good point. good question. Right? Yeah, I think it would mean why you're going to the northwest, that's a different matter. Going to the northeast, what are you going there for? Right? S is the initial, so it's a band
Starting point is 00:26:53 or an artist who's, it starts with an S and that's the clue, right? Second one. Oh yeah, she's related to the man in the lamp. Right? That's G. Right? She's related. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the north going going going going going going going the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th going going going going going going going tho. tho. tho. thoooooooo. North west thea. North west thea. thea. thea going the north the north-no. the north the north the man in the lamp. Right? That's G. Right? She's related to the man in the lamp. And the third one is, the Jamaican fella would love to live there, but it's a little bit pricey. Oh God, I feel an accent coming on. That's one way you're going to have to think about it with the accent. I imagine. D-S, D-S for that one, right? So the Jamaican fellow would love to live there, but you know, a bit dear and that's a bit pricey. So, uh... So, give me some a game quickly.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Right, the first one, I'm going to the North East, what you're going there for? that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, right, right, right, right, that's, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, that's, that's, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the th. So, so, the the the the, the the, the, the Jamaican. So, the Jamaican, the Jamaican, the Jamaican, the Jamaican, the Jamaican, th. So, th. So, th. So, thithe man in the lamp you know that's G changes are the Jamaican fellow would love to live there but a little bit pricey and that's D F so emailing or text and that Ricky dot Joveys at xfm dot co dot the UK what's the text eight three xfm yeah yeah what's that's great great play some ads yeah yeah yeah X-FM. Steve, is there anything wrong with a bit of old-fashioned rock and roll-roll?
Starting point is 00:28:07 Yes or no? I do not believe so. Well, then there's Jet, so roll over DJ and XFM 104. Who are you? Rickie Joveys, who are you? Steve Mowrch? Is that little bald, mannank, winging, twoat over there? Yeah, sure. All right? Oh, go on.
Starting point is 00:28:27 As you know, there's always junk lying around in this studio and not all of it is rockmusters prizes. No. And there's, I'll just be, I'll just be, so am I just, some is the playlist. Yeah, exactly. And I was just flipping through an old copy of the Guardian Guide from last week, the little listings thing. And you know, I don't know if people might have seen it, we did a, there was a documentary on this week about the transfer of British sitcoms to America.
Starting point is 00:28:52 And we did an interview for that because I'm remaking the show over in the States. I'm just flicking thrown, I noticed a little write-up about it here. And it says it says it says it says says says says says says says says says says says says says says, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's a, there's, there's there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there's there's there, there's there's there, there, there's there's there, there's there's there, there's there's there's there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's a, there's a, there's a, there's a documentary, there's a documentary, there's a there's a there's a there's a there's a documentary, there's a there's a documentary, there's a documentary, there's a little, there's a documentary, there's a documentary, there, there's a documentary, there, it says, we don't care if David Brent becomes a woman, verbal Steve Merchant, eyes bulging with imagined riches. I'm like, no, my eyes bulge normally. That's not me being greedy. That's just me. Starting point is 00:29:26 Jervais's mannerisms could have been transferred as dollar signs. Well, I was really psychastically. I was doing it like that. I was pretending that I just cared about the money. Yeah. So, irony, you see, people say Americans don't get irony. Most people here don't their irony. Well like I said it's just just headlines and that I don't bother reading on if I like the headlines. No point. And it's all from Man and over not from a newspaper or not. It's not made up or anything. No okay then. Let's see let's see. Okay. These are real news headlines. Okay the real. Well. BONG. Man hidden wardrobe to avoid work.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Yeah, good. All right. Teenager gets stuck in washing machine. Bong. Bushman has two right feet. Bong. Cow hit by train lands on farmer's wife. That is the real news to you, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:30:50 That's brilliant. Oh, I was just thinking the cow flying through the air and the wife's going, oh no. Oh dear. Dutch man has two right feet? Yeah, isn't it having some operation or something and, uh... What they have? They put the wrong foot on him? It's has two right feet? Yeah, he's having some operation or something and... What, they have, they put the wrong foot on him? He's got two right feet or something. Well maybe it was only a right foot that was available. Good dancer.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah. Oh dear. Well, in real news, I followed that thing with, uh, it was that fellow that got into the palace when Bush was there. Right, an undercover journalist. Yeah. Yeah, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I they they they they they they they, I they, I they they're they're th. they're they're th. tha, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're the thing with, it was that fellow that got into the palace when Bush was there. Right, an undercover journalist. Yeah. I mean, it would have been a problem if he was a terrorist, but it's sort of like, and as at the palace said, you know, all our tests are to expose terrorists, not journalists. Yeah. I just think it was no big deal really. I think it was much more bigger deal for journalists than the the journalists, the journalists, thia thia thia thia thia thi, well, well, well, well, well, well, thi, well, well, well, thi, thi, well, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the journalists, thi, their, well, the journalists, their, the journalists, the journalists, well, well, the journalists, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, they. Yeah, I was, I was, I was, I'm thooooooooooooooooooooooomomorrow, their, thooomo, thi, big deal really. Yeah. It was much more bigger deal for the journalists than anyone else. Well okay, all the journalists in the world can pop up. As long as no terrorists get in, we're all right. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:31:53 Yeah. A bloat just got through a terrorist, no, an ice cream seller. That's all right. It was like the waiting home and think it's Baz Bamingboyne from the Daily Mail. I think that's Gary Bushall. That's fine. That's fine, don't worry about it. Yeah. But it's just he, all he did wrong though was just lied on his CV.
Starting point is 00:32:13 But I think he did, but everyone lies on their CV. Of course. Of course, everyone gets their own CV. I don't think I was at Eudu and I was an events manager I applied for a job at Radio 1 for events manager didn't even get an interview yeah so I just stopped the CB like I just you know the one knock back and that was exactly yeah so you've lied on your CV have you called yeah loads yeah it's just um it's like some little written yeah no yeah love on come on there's a job going
Starting point is 00:32:45 at Granada in fact this isn't even lying and I still didn't get the job right but but well you don't get a job just because you don't lie it's not have you lied now you got the job no but they actually loads of stuff don't me that you that you think well that's got nothing to do with the job I don't know why you're you the the the tho th you're th you're th you're th I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that that that that's that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's got that's got that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's tho tho tho tho tho tho the tho the the the the the the the the the tho. tho. tho. tho. I that's Qualifications, things like that, yeah. Yeah. But, well it was languages. Yeah. Right? What did it say?
Starting point is 00:33:09 It just said, you know, put your name, put your address, languages, right? And, um. Oh yeah. And I just, what, you don't speak any other languages, yeah? Well, I just put English quite good. You didn't th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho that that that that that that that that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. What, th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th Suzanne. I think you told me this before. Did you really put English quite good? Yeah, honestly God. Didn't get, didn't it hear that?
Starting point is 00:33:32 Well you know what they meant now? You know what the, you know what your error was, don't you? Uh, are you fluent in French, German, Chinese? Yeah, but I don't they don't use loads loads the the the the th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho that English that that tho tho th. Did you th th th th. Did you really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that English that English that English that English that English that English that English that English tho that, that, to put to put that, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to that, to that, that, that, that, Chinese? Yeah, but I didn't want them to think I've got loads of big words and that. Do you mean? Well, I don't use loads of big words and stuff. No, they meant do you speak any other languages, Carl, not the ones your native language. They assume that you can speak, it's because you're filling out a form. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Oh, it's like language. They assume you can speak thathey probably think it was English. And to put quite good when you are English, English is your first language, yeah, I'm quite good at it. I see your point now. It's true though, isn't it? Yeah! I'm not sure quite good is accurate. No, poor. English, poor. A week. Do you didn't get the interview now. What did Suzanne say when you told you put that? She just laughed.
Starting point is 00:34:26 It was too late, it was too late to do anything. That was rare. Do you talk about it? She's off today. Is it all right? Oh, she's at home today. But it's probably all right now, isn't it well nice not today. You're scared of the way aren't you? No, I mean I don't want to... What? Oh you've learned your lesson that you know you can't talk about people like that and because it upsets them? Well plus I can't do it all now because we're doing Pulp Fiction later
Starting point is 00:34:54 and it sort of involves the red so... So... Brilliant! So there's me thinking that you're being considerate or worried about the deal with... He don't want to use up the material until later. Play record. Travis, beautiful occupation. What's the best job you've ever had still, Carl? Talk about occupations. Is it still the paper round? that's ridiculous. that's the best job you've ever had still, Carl? Is it still the paper round? That's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:35:26 No, it was good though. If you look at it, like, you know what I liked about it, you're your own boss. No, you're not, you're not your boss. No, the blooms is your boss. No, the blooms is your boss. All right. But then once you get out and you've got your papers and that, you're sort, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you, you're, you, you, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're the the the their, you're their, you're their, you're, you're their their, you're th. You, you're their their, you're their, you're their their th, you're their th, you're th, you're their their their their, you're their, you're their, you're, you're their, you're their, you're their, like, you're their, like, you're th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their, you're th. th. th. th. thi, you're thi, you're thi, like, you're thoo, tho-a. thoan, thoan, like, you're their thoan, like, you're their their that, you're their that, like, you're on your own. Do you want as long as you live in the papers exactly to the places he said you are in the time he said? Yeah. It's a freedom isn't it? Any jobs you wouldn't do? Uh, I just thought of one that you wouldn't do with your sort of mild homophobia? Well I'm not? Proctologist. What's that? Basically sticking your finger at other people's? Right, well, why does anyone need that doing? Well, that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? to to that? to to to to to to to to to to tho? Any thi? Any tho? Any tho? Any thoom jobs? Any thoom any jobs? Any jobs? Any jobs? Any jobs? Any jobs? Any thoes? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? Any? A. to do that? Why have you got to do that? Well why does anyone need that doing? Does they got a look if they've got a assack or something? Which trainee doctor makes that their speciality? Do you know what I mean? That must be, right, we got a place for a judge, and it's you came last. Oh seriously what I'm not the ass doctor I won't. Yeah you came last. Oh I'm a bun a bun GP I can't believe this. Yeah that must be it
Starting point is 00:36:30 must be it wasn't it? Well I'm assuming no one would choose it no one was purely if they can have the brain surgery. Well if they're brilliant but you were shy you couldn't look people in the face yeah you can't do anything you can't do the asses yeah yeah you you you can you can you can you you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you you can you can you you can you you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can't you can you can you can. You can just want to do their arses. Yeah. Really? Just want to do the answers. Yeah. Look at Carl's face! You didn't even know such a thing as an ass doctor, did you? No, not really. Specialized. He does nothing all day but that. He does nothing all day but that. He does nothing all day but that? You don't say that about a brain surgeon, a thoracic surgeon, do you? No, but that all day.
Starting point is 00:37:09 That's not good, is it? I love the fact that I can blow his mind! It's just things that people take for granted. A dentist just looks in mouths all day. Yeah, but that, oh, that, oh. What, what? That, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's that's just just just just just just, tho, that's just that's just that's just that's just that's just that's just just that's just just just that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's just, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the thi. thi. thoo. thooooooooo. thooooooooooo. thooooooooo. that's not. that's not. that's not. that, that, oh, I think that's a bum job, that bum job. Just think of that. Oh. So what do you need to know then there?
Starting point is 00:37:31 It's a lot, a lot to know. You've got to have nice nails. Yeah, no, rough edges. Will you be alright? Because you've got that job and that? Because you've got that job, and not the old people, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th... Do you? Yeah, yeah, I know which ones you like and that. Do you? What do they like? What old people like? Bobons? Richie? Do they really? Because that's my least favorite? I would never eat a bourbon. I could be starving and I wouldn't eat a bourbon. If you want to let us know what your favorite biscuits. Yeah. If you want to let us know what, if you're their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they they'll their their their their their their their they're their they're they're they're they're all all people people their they're all people they're all people they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll their people people people people people people people people their their they'll their they'll their their their their their their their their together. B. B. B. I'll together. B. All all all all all all all all all all all eat their bode. Boboobooboblea. B. B. B. I'll they get asked problems don't they? So you could double up couldn't you? You could be having out biscuits in the morning and checking out... So what why would you go and have that done then? What sort of problems? What do you mean? Loads of problems?
Starting point is 00:38:16 Oh what? Prostate? And they've got to go there? The after night have a little, you know... Well there was that, I told you that that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that story that b broke that b broke that b-that bisk, that bisked that biscos if that biscos if that biscos if that biscos in that biscos in that biscos i that biscos biscos biscos biscos biscos biscos that bisc that b that b that b b b b that b that b b b b b that b that b that b b b that b that b that b. b. b. b. That's that b-usk's b-usk's bismuskusk's biscuits that biscuits in biscuits in that biscuits in that have a little little you know well that I told you that story that the bloke um it's not an apocryphal towel because it's it's about an orderly's report and it's the bloke that filled out the form and what happened he went into hospital basically with a sauce bottle up his ass and on the report he put his head obviously you know pleasure in himself using a saucewell and on the report he said that he'd been shopping at safe base and he'd come in with his shopping and he'd forgot his key so he put his bags down on the step right and he started climbing up the drain pipe
Starting point is 00:39:03 to get in right but as he was climbing up his trousers and pants fell down he sle down he slid the the thirt the the thirt the the the the the the th th th th th th thigh thigh the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee thooooo their their their their their their, right? And he started climbing up the drain pipe to get in, right? But as he was climbing up, his trousers and pants fell down. He slipped and fell and the sauce bottle went up his ass. And the orderly said, this story would be somewhat believable if Safeway sold their sauce bottles with condoms already attached. That's like a game of Kaponk. So he put, I love it, he put a condom on it. I wonder if that was so he didn't want to get an infection from it or he wanted to use it on his chips later. So why is not one? Talking of arse. Yeah. Rockbusters.
Starting point is 00:39:40 We should give those clues again because we're not getting many right responses. So let's give them once more. Do you know what I think? Because the mentalists out there get his clues and they're rubbish. So I think this clue must be so way off that it's something wrong. Do you know what a pun is, don't you? You can't change the word. You can't have, oh, he's bald and he rides a bike. Who's that? Bicycle Stipe? That doesn't count.
Starting point is 00:40:07 It's got to be Michael Stipe, for it to be correct. It's got to be Michael Stipe, yeah? All right? Well, we've got most of that we've got two right. So, let's hear the clues again. First one was, I'm going to the northeast. What are you going there for? S. Starting point is 00:40:46 D-S. emailing or texting. Ricky Dr. Jovey's at XFM. Co. tho-K. Or on the text, 83 XFM. All right? Dylan's of course playing in London this week. Yeah. Good luck to him. It's a classic. You must leave no... Bob Dylan, it's all over now Baby Blue from 1960-something. A bit of triviour for you, Steve. That is the last record we ever played on the old XFM before we were fired.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I bet that was a moving moment for about eight people. I just thought of summer. You know that that thing we did about, they said that we just cared about the money selling it to America? Yeah. If we cared about money, yeah. Would we be here now? Do you know what I mean? I think this proves that we don't do things for the money? Jesus. All right Carl? A couple of emails. Munky mat? I'm. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. Starting point is 00:41:54 Hide and Seek champion found dead in cupboard. That's good. I hope it's real. Just looking through some of the news stories that Carl did make it into Carl's News Roundup. Yeah. Bong. This one you might be interested in. Headline, woman says partner ran off to become vampire. And it says a young mother says her partner has dumped her to become a vampire. And this is where I wonder if the journalist, you know how journalist is supposed to just report the news, be objective. I wonder if maybe the journalist here has maybe had some interference. Made the quote better for them. Because it says, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, possibly, the, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the, the, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the quote, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. Now, if he came back, I'd say fangs but no fangs. Oh dear! I can't relieve. Imagine you're the woman, Rick. And I've come around. I'm the journalist. And I've come and I've come and I've said,
Starting point is 00:43:18 okay, I've read about this. All I have to do is not say that thing. You've come, you've come, I understand you obviously quite upset, you know what's gone off. If he came back, would you take him back? Definitely not. Right, what would you say to him when he came back? Just get lost. Right, but I'm really pissed off with you. I know, I'm really pissed off with you. Would you perhaps say something a bit more. Pithy.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Pith not in this situation. I mean, I like what you said there, but I wonder if we could condense that a bit more. If he came back, would you say, go away. Would you say something, would you ever say, thanks but no thanks? No, because that makes it flippant because I'm really angry. I know you're annoyed. And I'm upset, so I wouldn't say, I totally wouldn't say, I totally wouldn't say, I totally you you totally wouldn't totally wouldn't th say thantly would thantly say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, that, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, I'd say, tho, tho, tho, tho, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, say, tha, tha, thr. Would say, thr, thro, say, say, say, tho, say, say, say, that, say, say, say, say, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks? I might say thanks but no thanks and that would be it and that's it and I'd leave it there I'd never and I'd never change that. Sure. I'd never change those words. Can I ask you a question? Go on. Do you like puns? Do you like them? Right. I don't like count down. I don't like any of those past Cambridge, Oxford type. I hate. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I never would. I'd say thanks with no thanks. I would, you know, I mean, I feel embarrassed that I'd even say I'd even say, I'd say, because I don't think I would even say thanks but no thanks but no thanks. But if I did go. There's a K. Fangs very much.
Starting point is 00:44:45 G. It's A and A, well the A, the N and the S, but that's about it. Would you agree it sounds marginally similar? Uh, yeah. Is it possible you might one day say fangs but no fangs? I wouldn't know. Right. I could put that thing, this is the thing, just if you ever read an article in the sign of the mirror anything, do not believe it, really seriously question and query it because... If it ends with fangs, no fangs.
Starting point is 00:45:12 If it ends with a pun, most certainly they never said it. Yeah. Feeder. You know what? I'm annoyed at now, right? We've got another ad break coming up. How many ad breaks are we had in this show? I know. Carl? How many ad breaks are we had in this show? It's only about three an hour, three or four an hour. So I've got three minutes. So 20 minutes is wasted on shite. I mean apart from the stuff we talk about. Well, it's funny you should say that because someone said to me me me me the the the the the th me the the the th me th me th me the th me th me th me th me th me th me th th the the the the the the the tho tho tho tho thoom tho tho tho thoom' that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. tho. tho. tho. the. It's funny you should say that because someone said to me last week that they felt that there were more adverts now on the show than they used to be. Oh they're more adverts. I think just checking some of the emails I think that's because people are requesting
Starting point is 00:45:53 them. They find the more entertaining than what we're giving them. No, no, can't we though? Why can't we have less? Why have we got so many? Is it... What happens that? Oh, well no, you can't listen to radio in every, after every record. It's bad enough trying to keep me listening with the rubbish we come out with. Well, we've got rockbusters here, let's get them back. Ha'n't you know? Come on then. Right, has anyone got all three? No. No, right, okay, so there's something I'm going to be I'm going to ban Rockbusters. Okay, go on and what are the clues again? Tell me the answers.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Give us the ones that they did get. All right, well they did get. Um, she's related to the man in the lamp. What's that? That was Gene. Geno. That was genesis. Genesis. T. That was Gene. That was Gene. That was. That was. That was. That was. That was. Gene. Gene. That was. Gene. That was. Gene. That was. Gene. Gene. That was. Gene. That was. That was. That was. Gene. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. G. Gene. Gene. G. Gene. Gene. G. Gene. G. G. G. G. genie, Genesis, Genesis, they got that one. No, no, no, what's the band's name? Genesis. Genesis. the band name, Genesis. Genesis. Right, okay. I don't get it, because Genie is nothing like that.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Well, they did. So don't worry about it. Stop worrying about that, right? The third one was, the Jamaican fella would love to live there. Go on. But it's a little bit pricey. Go on. Right? What was the initial? D-S? Deer Streets? What? It's a Deer Streets? to live on? Deer Streets? Oh yeah, I don't have no them. They're a band? That's Dier Streets. No, it's not Diestrates! No, it's not! No! No! It's! It's. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the initial. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's not diastrates! It's not diastrates, dear streets. The Jamaican fella. Go ahead, go on, make it sound like that. Like, deer streets. Deer streets. Do it again? No, it's still not. Keep going. I haven't got it yet. Go on. Yeah, the streets.
Starting point is 00:47:36 They got that one as well, so. All right, well, let's hear the one they're saying diastrates? Right. Diostreates. It's not the same! The first one they struggle with was, um, I'm going to the northeast. What are you going there for? Well, you say struggled with, no one got this. No one got it. People didn't even attempt it.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Okay, the northeast. I'm going to the northeast. What? I'm going to the northeast. What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, seal oh so seal what seal what's that what's that got to do with the north though seal so seal so I'd say it so I'd say it okay that's the end of rockbusters I'm not really the end of rockbusters i can't really the end of rock buster i can't really we even boy back Rick right i'm serious that's the end of go go on i'd love to hear some i'd to hear to say say say say say say say say say say say I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I'd the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they they they they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd say say I'd say I'd say I'd to say I'd to say I'd to say I'd that's that's that's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they to say say say say say say say I I I I I I I I'd I'd they they they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd the they'd they'd the they'd they'd they'd to say I'd to go go go go to to to they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they'd they'd the end of rockbusters. I can't really we even boy about Rick. Right? I'm serious, that's the end of rockbusters. Can I thrown? I'd love to hear some adverts now instead of that.
Starting point is 00:48:30 So would I say, that is, that adverts are better than that. I'm just saying Laura's. I'm a lot of you. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. We're all in love on XFM, 104. Sorry about Rockwusters. That's the end of it, definitely. Because it's, it was dreadful. Do you know what I mean, Steve? It's quite funny, but that was, that was awful. I mean, we've apologized for that quiz so many times.
Starting point is 00:49:08 I know, we've given it, I think it's two come back. No, they don't like it. No, they don't. That's the end of that. Less adverts next week, I that. thirty minutes of adverts. thirty. thatheat. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. I. I. that. I. I. I thi. I thi. I that. I that. I that. I th. I th's not what people listen for so right redeem yourself have you got the film thing you're in right yeah I'm in a film it's pulp fiction this week right right changed it a little bit tweak the storyline a little bit okay it's just make it better yeah it's just you know I've talked about Suzanne's air on that yeah about when she got it caught it't like it and that so it's sort of about that listen to it there'll be a question at the end you can win some good stuff yeah well right so and this is the scene where they're in the restaurant do you know when they're about to do the robbery yeah it's not a restaurant change that it's a barber's right the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is is is the the the th is th is th is the the the th is the the the the th is is is the the the th is is is is th is th is the th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they the the the the they th is not the th is not the th is not that is not that is not that that that that that that throo that throoooooo the the is the is thro the is that that is the that the robbery. Yeah, but it's not a restaurant, change that, it's a barber's. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:05 All right. All right. Is that going to be a question after this? Yeah. Like that. All right. A girlfriend came in here earlier. I had a haircoat.
Starting point is 00:50:15 I'm not happy with it. Look at the state of that. Well, don't laugh. Don't laugh. I I I mean I don't want to cause any fuss but just just want you to sort out. I'm afraid I can't do that. Well you can do that because it looks a mess. Look my friend this is just where you and I differ. Well, you've got to do something because look at it. When she came through the front door at home I thought Dave Illy that Slade had walked in.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Funny how I was thinking to cause any problems or anything. She hasn't even seen it properly yet. She sort of had it cut and came straight home and didn't look at it. Suzanne, just look in that mirror. Look what they've done to your head. God damn it, what is it? What do you mean, what is it's not a problem? Look at the state of her air? Suzanne? You don't! You don't know! We're not going to do anything stupid, are we? th. I'm the manager here. There's no problem. What do you mean it's not a problem? Look at the state of her air. Be calm, cooperate, and this will all be over in a minute. I'm not going home. Well, we're not going anywhere until we sort your air out. I'm not walking home with you,
Starting point is 00:51:15 with your air like that. It's embarrassing, so let's just get it. You die. No, forget haven't it died. Just get rid of... die. No, forget having it die, just get it caught. Colour's not a problem, just saw it out, just get rid of... Let's see what we can do. Right, good. Look at it, look at the state of it. I'm trying real hard. Suzanne, just keep your head still there so we can... Just hang in there, baby, you're doing great. I'm proud of you. Just saw that bit out there. Just cut that. My barber says I've got the hair of a china man. Have funny about that? Is it serious or what? Freaking me out? If my answer is frightening, you should cease asking scary questions.
Starting point is 00:52:13 It's almost over. There you go. No, it's not brilliant. We'll have to do, that's not brilliant, we'll have to buy her a hat on the way home. Yeah, that's probably a good idea. Do you think Suzanne's listening? It's all right, isn't it? I like the fact that in that she's represented with a sort of dimwit southern accent. Yeah. Your girlfriend, so I'm sure we've appreciated that. It's nice, yeah, it was a nice. I don't know what kind of copyright infringements.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Yeah. Yeah. All right, well, the question is, what did I say is odd about my hair? Odd about your hair? Yeah. Oh well, yeah. Fans of the show will know that already, I'm sure. Yeah, so email in, Ricky Docachevase, I'm not good at UK. Or, yeah, just email actually.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Yeah. Bod. By it. Yeah, you can win some Tatt. That's a beautiful record. Yeah, this is Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen as recorded by Badley Gord to Badley the thumboy doing his version of Bruce Springsteen's Thunder Road. Good Ffm-04. to-4. to. Bo. Bo. Bo. Bo. Bo. Bo. Starting point is 00:53:31 Not bad. Not bad. I tell you what, he's also made a good effort. Stephen Gunning of Toothing. He's correctly identified that Carl's hair is like. Or it was. Yeah. Many other people have been made in saying how can we know what your hair is like because you are a bold mank tweak. So people are quite... Is our language okay on this
Starting point is 00:53:48 show in general? I've told you that, you know, to be careful on that. Yeah, why don't you try putting some effort into it as you get Mondays off for this two hours. You've got rock bust a clue that no one can get because it was impossible it was impossible it was it was it was impossible it was it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible it was impossible. You don't even know what you've taught me. It's sort of like you borrow information. It's like one of those things that you know what are those things called read read many. It can just pass it on then. It. It's. It's. It's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. tho. It's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it can just pass it on and it's just yeah, one of those CDs you can just play once. It struck me when that is you an information. It goes in, if you tell someone once it's like you've lost it, it's like it's like past the parcel with knowledge. It's gone now you don't even
Starting point is 00:54:37 remember what you told me. A chain letter? What? Just you mean chain like the that. thi. th. th. th. th. thin, thin, thi. thi. thin, thi. thi. thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thin, thin, thin, thin, thin thin thin thin thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' that's that's that, that, that, th. It's that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, thin. That's thin. That's thin. That's thin. That's thin, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, it struck me when we were listening to his phone call to you at the very beginning of the show, I don't know if you might miss that, but basically it was a message that Carla for Ricky. But about halfway through that message, there was the feeling, I don't know, if you notice, but like the word started to fall apart it. It was like, Jones. You might not make it to the other side. I know yeah. Anyway we've had a few laughs and we've had a few insults. Yeah so we're try and sort out some else as opposed to rockwester's next week. Less adverts I think. Ideally. What else? Better chat, better music, better presenters? No, come on. They can't read a monkey news. Was it? Oh, is their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah........................................................................................................................................... music, better presenters. No, come on.
Starting point is 00:55:25 They got rid of monkey news. Was it, oh, is there a monkey news? Now it's gone on this week. Don't talk, there must be some monkey news. It's not like it's real news. You tell us stories about chimp from the 18th century. It's not, don't give me nothing happened. Don't give you at the internet? Did look. And there's no news, nothing happened. There was one little bit of monkey news about how you can now buy tea that's been picked by little chimps because it tastes good. That's what they're saying. Right, why does it taste good? What do they do to it? I don't know. It just annoyed me. Is it those jimps from the PG-TIF that? Well that's that's not the thing. Are they dressed up having funny conversations like that's the thing, everyone made a fuss about, you know, that's cruel making them pick a piano up. Yeah. If I was a chimp I know what job I'd prefer, do you know what I mean? Do you know what I'm doing?
Starting point is 00:56:13 I probably thought that was a true. I that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that that that that was a documentary that was a that was a that was a documentary that was a that was a that was a that was a documentary that that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary that was a documentary. there, a trailer for a channel 4 programme! I'll be back next week. I've got a little treat for them. Right, that winner of the DVD, watch the behind the scenes footage because you see Carl's little round head. So they're enjoying that.
