People wake up and go, oh, damn, wait a moment, hold up.
They change all of that?
Yes.
It's real.
This is a wholesale attack.
It is targeting black people in every federal agency.
It's raw.
White folks have never allowed that reckoning to last more than a decade.

I'm inclined to believe you are a hater.
Thursdays with Charles McDonald.
That's what we're doing.
Check him out on the athletic live show.
You're talking about football and stuff.
What's going on, man?
I'm doing good.
Out here in sunny Los Angeles now, last time at this pot,
I was definitely a still New Yorker, but I got that text from Ryan where he was like,
you're on the, you're on the West Coast, right?
I was like, yep, he was like, how does 9 a.m. Pacific sound?
I'm like, you know what?
I'd be up anyway, so it's all good.
It's all good.
Guess what just happened to you.
That nine just turned to eight next time.
Yeah.
Look at you being a grown up.
Hell yeah.
I know, I know, I know.
But I was up hell early today because I still haven't like, I've been here for like a month now,
but I still haven't like fully, fully adjusted.
still is like somewhat living on East Coast time doing all the NFL stuff so I will say we like to hear
these 8 a.m. or not at a.m. but the game's ending at 8.30 p.m. There's something to that. But I tell you
something to it, man. I think the most overrated thing about living in California is the 10 o'clock
kickoffs on Sunday because if you have anything to do you can't. Yeah. Yeah. That's tough.
The 10 a.m. luckily this is my job but like so I kind of have to come here regardless. But the 9 a.m.
kicks on Saturday really get me.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Like if you got anything else that you got to do when you're supposed to do it, right?
I'm not waiting up at 730 on Saturday, you know?
Yeah, like 7.30 on Saturday.
Now, we're getting ready for other things.
You know what I'm saying?
But, you know, I'm glad you out there in L.A. doing you good.
We got NFL action to talk about.
Lane Johnson retired out of nowhere, and we're not going to tell any jokes about that.
No, sir.
No, funny about that.
No, no, no, no.
I didn't want to say this right fast, though.
Those who follow me know my big thing.
I ain't going to lose it all over a joke.
I did a podcast the other day where I told a very, very funny series of jokes about O.J. Simpson.
One of them, perfectly permissible.
The other one, little bit on the line.
I got a phone call, and they were saying to me,
or trying to, like, break it to me softly that they were going to be.
going to cut those jokes out of the broadcast.
I'm like, baby, you ain't got to explain nothing to me.
You ain't even have to call me in the first place.
Like, if you think that this wasn't worth the risk, it's all good
because we're not going down over a joke.
And I'll tell you the first joke.
The second one, I'll tell you later.
Okay.
First joke was simply this.
And it was, we were talking about Bijan Robinson,
and we tried to figure out who to accomplish would be John Robinson.
And then I let it sit for a couple of beats.
And then I stopped and was like,
Hey, I'm just curious.
If he reminded you of O.J. Simpson, would you say it?
Okay, see, I don't think that that's bad.
Right, right, right, right, right, right.
It was okay.
It was okay, but it was okay.
Now, the other one just wasn't worth it is the point that I'm making, right?
And that's where Stephen A got himself in trouble.
It just wasn't worth it.
He was trying to make the point, man, things so bad in Philadelphia that dot, dot, dot.
All people heard was mental health joke.
They didn't.
He tried to come back and be like, yo, y'all misconstrued what I was saying.
That's not the point.
That's not it.
It's not.
The first one's fine.
When I used to do football three-on-one with Nate,
when we were doing the Harold's Fanon draft,
he was coming out of Bowling Green, got drafted by the Browns.
I compared him to Aaron Hernandez.
And I was like, look, I'm not saying he's a murderer.
Yeah.
Have you seen this boy play?
Yeah.
Stephen they got caught up.
Like he was like, one of my friends who's a comic was watching that video.
He was like, oh, man, Stephen Day was doing crowd work.
Y, yo, yo, yo, y'all, y'all, y'all.
You know what that's what be your ride we're talking about.
There's nothing harder than comedy, right?
Like, I have made the decision before I got here that I'm going to tell a joke and that joke is going to land.
used to work with somebody who didn't understand no matter how many times you do this in the mirror
you're not going to find out if it worked until it's too late right like you can't you can't do that
and i saw where he was going i saw what he was going for and it was like as you look around and there's
no worse feeling in this world from doing game theory i realized this right because like i think
i'm funny but it's fair to say i'm not quite a professional right it's learning it trying to get there
The biggest problem I'd have would be in a professional when you have your DMX moment.
When a brother told a joke and then people didn't laugh,
is the worst feeling in the world.
Stephen A had that happening to him in real time.
He's getting looks from everybody in front of him, but he's in too deep.
He cannot stop.
He has to keep going.
And then they came and tried to give him a little, hey, we're not going to joke about that.
And he was like, but I am.
Hear me out.
Everyone else is in such a bad spot, though, because, like, you can't laugh.
Yeah.
You also can't tell them to shut up.
No, no, no, no.
And you can't do what's probably best, which is this one right here.
Oh, ooh.
Just cover your face, check your phone, you know, just got to be like, hey, hey, we're going to talk about something else.
We're going to, you know, just right here.
Somebody, somebody hit them with the.
Hey, hey, hey, let's not talk about that.
Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, baby.
Easy, easy, easy, baby. Easy, easy, easy, big dog.
But anyway, we, we're not, we told jokes about somebody telling jokes that they should not have told, but we're not telling the joke.
It's a very delicate.
It's a game.
It's a line, but it ain't straight.
You understand what I'm saying, right?
That's what this is.
All the same, Lay Johnson did stop playing football, which is not something that the Eagles had planned on on an offensive line that already is not.
as good as we have remembered it being along with everything else that is going on.
Me and Ryan talk all the time about how this team shouldn't be so entertaining and it shouldn't
always, if it ain't one thing, it's another with them.
And now it's another.
And the Jalen Hurts talk feels like it's going to get louder.
And it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, wh boy, they keep it.
They are better, they might be better for business than the cowboys.
No, I mean, they might be now.
And I think that the entertaining point is interesting because they have reached a point
where they're only entertaining like off the field, right?
If you watch that Eagles Rams game on Sunday, the Eagles, they had a touchdown drive
of like less than 20 yards and a touchdown drive of like less than 40 yards.
Other than that, it was punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, three and out, three and out.
So like the drama has gotten to a point where it's absolutely superseded the actual product
on the field, which is never a good thing.
You know? Because at least like when when you know, you had the AJ Brown stuff where he was, you know, being AJ Brown for all good and all bad that is, at least y'all were scoring points.
You're all putting up touchdowns and it was fun to watch.
Like I if someday is like a glimpse at what Lane Johnson list offense looks like for the Eagles for the rest of the season, that's like barely a watchable product.
And like the Jalen hurts noise, it's just going to have to get louder even though I kind of think he's just been this guy.
whole time. And I don't like see I'm not the part with jail with Jalen Hertz where I'm like,
okay like are we going to do this after every bad game he has? Because this is just kind of what he is.
Yes. That the answer to the question is yes, because now is the time that they need a quarterback
that is a value add. Right. Not like you said the other day, overcome. Yeah, can overcome the stuff
around him. When they're really good, he can ride away right now. It appears that he might be drowning.
Right. And this is where I was always like kind of dubious to him.
I was like, okay, like, obviously if you put a team around him, like, and I mean a really
good team around him, you can get to two Super Bowls from four years and win one of them
and almost win the other. And I like, I still think that that first Super Bowl, they played again
Kansas City. It's one of the, it's probably the best game he's ever played in his career
outside of like the fumble six. That was just a disaster. But ever since then, like he hit that
peak and it's just kind of gotten down and down and down and down. And he's not really like
the same rushing threat that he used to be.
So you kind of watch these games and you're like, well, what do you do here, man?
Like if you're not going to be like the rushing threat that we were that could actually scare
defenses, if you're not going to be this guy who's really going to throw in the run and be
a big play threat, it just kind of becomes this nothing offense where, I mean, not only
do you have, what, 93 passing yards on Sunday, but he got sacked for 25 yards.
that you had 68 total net passing yards for a whole game of football.
Then he had last year, he had two separate games where he went a full half with zero passing yards.
I mean, this is just kind of what it is at this point.
And I don't think that people have kind of caught up to, oh, no, like, he's just a guy that you can win
with if you have a really good team around him.
But like to say that he's going to sit here and elevate the rest of this roster, I mean,
he would have done that by now already.
It's not like we're new to Jalen Hertz, you know.
Let me throw something out here for you about him because he's 28 now.
He's a sneaky, not that young guy anymore.
You're talking about, you know, the rushing threat part.
I am going to add up for you rushing attempts and sacks between college and the pros.
What do you think that number is?
between college and the pros.
I mean, it's probably like 1,500, 1600.
It is 1,600.
Oh, that's a good guess.
1,6009, and that's before we add in the postseason stuff.
Okay.
All I'm saying is that dude that took a, that's Miles.
Yeah.
You know, he's not, he has not played like a Cam Newton career
where that was basically the career arc of a running back,
just because of the nature of how they did it.
And I imagine a lot of these carries are the booty play, you know,
where he get up there and then he get up on somebody's booty
and somebody get up on his booty.
And then they just be booty bumping all the way to, you know,
to get it in the hole, so to speak.
Mm-hmm.
That certainly has been for a lot of touchdowns.
I loved that moment.
That awkward moment of I couldn't tell if it was a delay.
Like, what the fuck am I supposed to say about that?
No, I think it was.
It was a little bit of a delay on my computer.
On my end, I was, I was in the DMX zone.
I was looking up at you and I was like, no, I'm going to just let this sit.
Let this, let this, let this make this a little worse.
That was a delay on my head.
Okay.
The aging, the aging conversation is kind of funny sometimes.
I think people don't realize like how much time we have spent watching these guys play football.
Yeah.
And you brought it back to Jalen Hertz in college.
man, that was like 10 years ago.
This is the 11th year of the jail of us knowing who Jalen Hertz is.
Right, right.
And, you know, like, one of my buddies was texting me last week.
He was like, yeah, like, what's up with Sequin Barclay?
Like, he's carried the ball 2,000 times in the NFL.
Like, no, it's like, it's crazy how people have completely forgotten how aging works.
That we have these outlier, Tom, Brady, LeBron James.
Like, same thing with Aaron Rogers at this point.
Air Rogers is cooked.
Why?
Because Aaron Rogers is 43 years old.
Right.
What is he doing here?
Unless you throw with a knuckle ball, you're a nought.
not supposed to still be throwing.
No, and Aaron,
Aaron's like,
he's not even having a good time anymore.
Oh,
why are you here?
Why are you here?
Is a,
is barking at,
is barking at Mike McCarthy better than what you could have been doing?
Well, I'm looking at both of them.
Like,
like,
you guys both opted into this.
Neither of you had to do this.
I don't,
I don't get it.
But like,
like sticking with the Eagles,
like,
I don't see where,
like,
where this is supposed to get better this year.
And it seems like they know,
it's not going to get better this year.
Because anytime you see like a GM that has job security that's able to plan for
the future, they got two first round picks next year.
They got a second,
second round pick now in 2028 after trading Cam Juergens, which, look, I know
Cam Jurgens hasn't been good this year, but that means someone worse than Cam Juergens is going
just thinking that your offensive line is not good and you traded an offensive line and
howie Rosemis thing was it's like we got four players for one.
But what about right now?
Right now.
Right. Yeah. Well, right now, I think they're kind of, I think at least Howie is saying. And look, you can say, oh, you know, we're, we're in on this year. Our goals for this year haven't changed. But bro, look at this team. Yes, they have. They obviously have. Well, tell me this. How is their defense this year? Because I feel like all we and we mean people are like my, like my portion of this industry. We spend so much time talking about the offense. I don't have a great handle on what this defense is. It doesn't look like the defense that didn't rush Patrick Mahomes, but it still look like they had.
have 15 people on the field.
Yeah, they're, they were getting better.
Like, I think they seem,
maybe they just had some roughs like earlier in the season
where they weren't playing all that well
or at least not up to their standard.
But, I mean, last week against the Rams,
that was the only reason why they were able to stay in that game
and able to get like some of those touchdown drives
that were right next to the end zone.
That is the only way they can score these touchdowns now.
So I think the defense would probably pretty good by the end
this season, which means you're playing like the worst brand of football,
good defense, bad offense, like,
every game is just going to be an absolute rock fight.
And like, to their credit, it took Matthew staff for like, what, like 52 attempts to get to 24, 24 points last week.
And if you just got anything from the offense, they probably would have won that game.
So I think the defense would probably get better.
Definitely not as stalwart as they used to be.
But like, the Eagles, they had a, if you just look at their drive chart from that game,
they had a field goal drive that was 12 plays 29 yards.
How was that possible?
How was that possible?
That's what I'm saying.
I don't I don't get it.
Like all they're doing is punting and field goals.
And if they can get the ball like all the 20 yard line,
maybe they can score touchdown.
But right now like I'm worried for Eagles fans
because I don't know if they can handle something
that's going to look this ugly.
Well, have you seen the Siriani?
They're only going to London.
They tally hoeing this weekend.
And they're not leaving until a Friday to get there.
And all I'm saying,
is this. The Jaguars, they tally ho every year. I would probably just do what they do. Now, I generally
don't think do as the Jaguars do is inappropriate, like, team building, like mantra. But at the same
time, like, I feel like if they get in there early, you should probably get there early. And I'm looking
as Siriani, who is so easy to question, just everything about him.
He just, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he
was a man like that. You can't be making decisions, but so much based on outside noise.
But if I was him, this is some noise that I don't necessarily need. Let's just go a little bit
earlier, right? He really don't care what we think. No, he doesn't at all.
He, he, he got his big security card walk around him all the time.
like that's not the weirdest thing in the world.
Big Don's the only security guy in the NFL that I actively know who they are,
but I guess that's what Sirianni's program is all about.
The only thing, the only thing, like, I used to be kind of like a,
not contrarium pro Seriani, but just like, bro,
they've won so many games.
Like, he's got to be good at something.
And then you just watch the,
and then you actually watch, like, the actual games.
And it's just, it's just dysfunctional.
And now, like, he's, he's, he's,
It's kind of in the same boat as Jalen Hurts, although I think people have been out on
Siriani for a while, which is wild to say, like, a team that has had this much success
where you got to two Super Bowls in four years, you had, you forced Patrick Burhouns
to play the worst game of his life, maybe, like going back to college too, and no one's like,
man, this head coach and quarterback, like, you really got it.
Like, this is something you can build around for a long time.
But the Siriani stuff, I just don't, I don't really know anymore like what he does, because
He doesn't call plays.
He didn't even call plays with the Colts when he was, like, hired.
So he was, like, hired as a non-play calling an OC.
Then, you know, they hired Sean Manning this year, which is like, why?
Why didn't you?
I know he was like, he was like their fourth or fifth choice for the job, which says enough in its own right,
because if this team was, like, actually good, this team was actually in a good place,
you would think you would have people lining up to go take that job.
Because any, Kellan Moore got a head coach job off of it.
Stiggan.
They had.
Right.
Stuyen, they had players at some point, but I think, I think it's just gotten to be so bad that
Howie is kind of looking at like, all right, maybe we eat it this year.
Y'all might not have job security, but I got job security.
So we're going to figure out what's going on after this season's up.
By the way, you mentioned weird things.
I'm curious your take on this because I found that I have an outlier opinion on something
that I thought I would have people behind me on.
An NFL owner on the sideline with a headset asking people questions,
in the game is weird to me.
I've never seen anything like it before.
I would hate it if I was trying to do my job
and the boss is asking me how this thing works.
There has to be another way to learn the game.
Now, it appears Steve Holder has written about this.
Other people have that the people with the Colts,
they say they're okay with it.
They say it runs smooth.
Okay, that's fine.
But we have got to get out of this world
where there's something wrong with you
for thinking that this looks a bit melancho.
If they can handle it, that's fine.
I know.
I'm trying to imagine if my CEO was sitting next to Ryan,
tapping him on the shoulder, asking him.
All right, so what's that hand signal he just gave you?
Oh, okay.
But I just, I just don't.
Look, now I, I, the funny thing to me were,
and I don't really have a, I don't, I, I, look, I think it's strange to.
Like, I don't see any other owners doing.
this.
You know, if this is how she wants to learn about the game,
I guess she finds a check.
So yeah, that's fine.
But like, I think, I do think it's funny.
Like, and not to, not to poo on anyone's reporting,
but like if, if I was Shane Steigant and somebody asked me.
Of course.
That I knew was going to go to the public and give my response to this.
Yeah, I'm cool with that.
Of course.
Of course.
Cool with that.
So, like, I don't think that, like, what he says actually matters all that much.
You know, you can make your own decision about, like, how you feel about, you know,
uh, uh, I forget her name.
Carly, Ursa, Gordon.
Yeah, on the, on the sidelines.
Um, I, but like, there's no other owner doing it, you know, there's no.
And that's why it's worth pointing out like, hey, that's, that's, that's different, you know,
is different than we normally see.
Is this misogyny is a fair question.
Yes.
Right.
Like, like it is to start off with that question is fair.
I have seen multiple people on the internet say,
more people have something to say about this
than an owner getting caught for prostitution.
And I'm like,
yeah, what's your, first of all,
what's your algorithm? Because we had quite a time with that, number one.
And number two, I'm telling you right now,
if they put his ass on the sideline every week
it had the camera on him,
you would see prostitution jokes every week.
Especially if he was picking up the prostitute every week.
You would hear about it every week.
Every week, this thing that seems,
a little odd. I don't see anybody really mad about it just as much like, I don't think I'd like
that. Yeah. Yeah, it's different. And like also, like I remember when, um, and you know, she's not
like quite the first owner because I remember like Tom Brady had a headset on. Yeah. Which
I guess he got a pass because he's Tom Brady, but even then I was like, we asked questions about
that. We did ask question about that. I was like, that's a little strange. And he's in the booth.
He's in the booth. He's in the booth. He's, he's an owner of the team. He's not. He's not. He's a little strange. He's in the booth. He's, he's
not a coach, he's not a player. Why is he on the headset? Like, what's he actually doing? So I do think
in that sense, like, it's fair to bring those same questions here, but who I, I, I, people, people
got mad and they, they started throwing around, you know, some accusations at people. Yeah, like I'm
saying, it's perfectly, it's a fair question. Their question about whether there's misogyny is fair.
It's a yes, legitimate discussion to be had that doesn't really require casting judgment on
anyone. She just wants to learn. See, to me, that's patron.
it. Right? Like the, how else is she supposed to learn the game? Charles, did you learn the game by
standing on an NFL sideline and asking questions at the same time? No, but you can ask
questions at any other time. Yeah, that's all I'm saying is that like, like we're all about
a thirst for knowledge here, right? That's, that's kind of how this show works. You just ain't got to do it
while they at the job. That's all, you know what it feels like? It feels like a ride along.
The new mayor doing a ride along.
Like yeah everything's going great we love this yeah yeah and do cops in there like look man
we gonna have to go fuck this dude up over here can y'all keep can you keep the mayor over there
while we uh you know excuse me mr or madam mayor we got to go handle something over you don't want to
know about this yeah right yeah like what you don't need to do is sticking ahead in the blue tent
hey what you guys doing it here you're the thing is like you're never going to get a full
honest answer from from anyone like she she signs their text bro why why would I tell the truth
about how I actually feel about that nope it's fine and and like honestly the truth is it probably
doesn't impact any decision over the course of a game no you're like if she if she's learning
like what this stuff is and obviously she's not in a space to say hey Shane like you need to do
this call this player or run this personnel but she's still there you know and that that is a different
work environment than the other coaches are going through.
It doesn't appear to be desirable.
I think, but they say it's okay.
I don't think I would like it.
I think we're all safe there, right?
Tweet's around.
Now, changing gears.
We got Seattle and San Francisco coming up.
This guy.
Where are you right now on the 49ers?
Because I think they play what I considered their first real game
last week and they won.
Oh, by the way,
Shaw Payton, finally,
did you have week five on your card?
I thought it was going to be around week four,
week five.
Yes, week five.
And for those who haven't heard,
Sean Payton,
let me get the sticks back.
He is,
he has told Davis Webb to pass the sticks
and he will get back to calling the plays.
Yeah, I've got a little bit of a,
maybe a craving point of view on that.
And this could be completely wrong, but I'm just throwing out my theory here.
Because it seems like Davis Webb was going to leave if he wasn't able to call plays this year.
But this is Sean just like getting around.
I don't feel like hiring a new offense of coordinator.
Yeah, I'll let you get the keys for a few games.
Oh, you're trapped here.
And now no one wants to hire you, you know, because I've gone and pulled the kid.
You're the new Pete Car, Michael?
New Pete Car, Michael.
That's exactly what he needed his new Pete Car, Michael.
He had all these offense guys who don't.
never called place. Dan Campbell was all that same list there.
I forgot about Pete Carmichael.
Yeah, he's got his new Pete Carmichael where you're going to say go ahead and sit
there for about 10, 15 years.
You're going to make a whole lot of money, but like, this is it for you.
You know, and like Pete, Pete seemed okay with that because I'm pretty sure Pete's still
coaching.
He's still, I think he's still in New Orleans, right?
I know he's the offensive coordinator for Buffalo now.
Buffalo, okay.
With Joe Brady.
With Joe Brady, right?
Joe Brady's like, I need a.
offensive coordinator who's okay with not calling plays. Pete said that you got my routing info right.
Right, right, right, right. Hey, man, he's like, you know what? That sounds like stress.
For Pete Carl Michael, that just sounds like a lot of stress that I don't need, right? But with Seattle,
I think it's worth noting. Seattle, the game they lost. They lost it in large part because
Stam Donald was not playing particularly well in that game against Washington. There is a ceiling on that
guy, no matter what anybody, tries to tell me, there's there, but they still feel like bosses.
Like, like, this is still the team that won the Super Bowl last year. How do you think this
one goes? They got the game at home. Man, this is tough. Because like the 49ers, that, that offense is,
it's insane right now. And like they, they also got, you know, a little bit more, like, a continued,
like, proof that this works to a high level going against Denver last week, which, uh, their defense has had a
a tough, I would say they have a tough test of offense to start the season, Kansas City,
Jacksonville, the Rams, and then the 49ers for Denver to start the season. So I don't think like
any numbers you see necessarily reflect like, oh, like this defense has really fallen off.
Still good unit. Like they still can give teams some headaches. And the fact of the 49ers
were able to do this while not being at full power is kind of really impressive.
And I get worried about the injury sometimes, but so far, like they still have.
Most of their main guys that are supposed to be here on the team.
They've had some injuries, a wide receiver, but he still got Kiddle,
still got Mike Evans out there.
Debo, Samuel looks like, like, you know, like 80% of what he used to be the last time he was in here,
which is obviously still like a really useful player.
I think I'm just kind of at the point with Kyle Shanahan where it's like,
I trust you to score against just about every team,
but then also Seattle did absolutely hammer them when they played them last year.
And it wasn't just in the playoffs, it's also at the end of the season two.
And I think there is a lot to say about the Seattle front on defense specifically
where they're like, they're just going to beat the crap out of every one they play.
And while like the 49ers, like they got good scheme and got like some quality players
up front, obviously Trent Williams is great.
It's not like the total cohesive unit that you would need to actually just blow these guys off the ball.
So I think it could still get buddy for the 49ers.
And where that scares me is I'm not a believer in this 49ers defense.
really like at all. I think Arizona kind of exposed them on the flip side and and Sam
Donald, he hasn't had a, he hasn't had like a perfect season, but that scheme is really good.
And obviously, JSA is really good. So I think that they have enough to score a whole bunch of
points of the 49th's defense. I still think Seattle's a better team overall. But Kyle, man,
Kyle's in his bag right now. I get and see why they're four or no. But I still think Seattle might
be a class above them just because they can play with the level of physicality that the 49ers don't
always do. All right. Coming up next, Charles McDonald's on that narcotic. We're going to find out
how he felt how he felt after that Monday night game.

All right, we're back with Charles McDonald of The Athletic Live.
Check him out Monday night.
And I don't know if you understand this in the D.C.
detail way of me is that I got off that narcotic.
I don't be, I ain't about that, uh, Atlanta.
You didn't feel nothing on Monday?
You didn't feel nothing?
I still hate the saints.
Yeah.
That part, that part remains, right?
What's Ryan Brumley?
Ryan Brumley.
Ryan Brumley's over there, you know, like, like, I don't hate the saints so much to
taunt him because it's unfair because you can't say nothing to me about the Falcons
because it just don't care, right?
I simply hate the saints.
Um, and I, you know, my guy.
the Detroit line.
Yeah.
We got that.
But anyway,
what I did feel,
like imagine what it's like for me.
I quit Texas
and I quit the Falcons.
However, I never told no lie
about Bejohn.
Bejohn,
Bejon, unfortunately,
brought in the wrong era.
You know what I'm saying?
Because he would be everybody's favorite player
if he had hit the league
even 20 years ago.
My goodness,
he ain't even right.
running hard out dear.
No, he makes it look so easy, like so easy.
He's on pace for, I know it's early.
It's always early, but he's on pace for 2,100 rushing yards.
And right now it looks like he could get close.
It certainly looks like he could get close to 2000.
Like, I mean, he, I honestly think it's very fitting that he is like the next big
player to wear number seven for the Falcons because when you watch him run out there,
it kind of gives you the same feelings that I did, like,
watching Vic get out there.
And the one that sticks out with me, like from a son for Monday night was
where there was a play where he was like dead to rights in the backfield.
Then he just, as soon as he gets the ball, he just jukees.
And then he's up the field and he juke's again.
He jukees again.
I'm like, how are you moving that fast that many times like in a phone booth?
And you look up at these 10 yards downfield.
And what I think was cool about him is he just seems to be getting better like every single year.
Like there's no, there hasn't been like, sometimes you'll see like this running backs, like they'll start hot and they hit a bunch of carries and you're like, oh, man, we had like a fun three years.
But this looks like it has like some real staying power for for a long time.
Like this was like I didn't blink when he got that contract extension.
I was like, man, he feels like he's underpaid.
Like when I watch a play, it feels like he's not making enough money.
Man, like after that game on Monday, I felt high like actually high.
Like I couldn't go to bed until maybe like one o'clock.
in the morning that I was just watching the highlights over and over and over again.
And it's just special.
Like anytime you can go in there like on that day, you know, the anniversary of Katrina,
which is obviously, you know, a horrible event.
Different, different days mean different things to different people.
Right.
And also the anniversary has kind of become its own anniversary because the 10 year anniversary
featured a 45 to 32 Falcons win.
20 year anniversary featured a 45 to 24 Falcons win.
So maybe the 30 year will be 45 to 16 Falcons.
If we're just going to keep dropping it down by eight,
it feels good.
It feels good to know that you can make like your worst rival feel horrendous
on a day that means a lot to them.
So I was really beaming after that game.
It felt really good.
And I also think it's funny that you are also in like a large sect of former Falcons fans,
which grew a lot after 28 to 3, right?
Definitely so.
I was ahead of that.
You were ahead of that, for sure.
But that don't watch the Falcons anymore, but still hate the Saints.
And it's funny that how many people are in that bucket.
I'm so mad that I forgot to tweet out the paper bag during that game.
You know what I'm saying?
Though I do have a friend of mine, she is Saints fan.
And one time I sent her to paper bag and she responded by sending me the photo shoot that Jim Brown did for Playgirl magazine,
which I thought was not a.
and apples to apples comparison.
I didn't think that that was the appropriate response,
but I'll tell you this.
Okay.
I ain't sent out that paper bag since.
I mean, I also just want to throw it out there that she just keeps those pictures on her phone,
which I don't think that she was doing just because Bobati might antagonize me about the saints.
I didn't think that's what it is.
I will say two things about Bijan and the Falcons.
One, Bejohn was in the same draft as Jamir Gibbs,
and both of those picks were pilloried, I would say,
by much of the NFL community, primarily the dorks,
because the idea was they have drafted these running backs too high,
and you were wrong on both of those dorks.
Like, this has worked out very well for both teams,
who happily extended both of these guys
as soon as the opportunity presented itself, okay?
Yeah, I like Bejon a lot in college.
was, my, my Gives thing was, I was, I was like,
bro, is this guy going to carry the ball like 200, 300 times in the season?
The answer is yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, I get their logic.
I don't want to pretend as though I don't understand where they was coming from.
But anyway, Bijon, Bijon to me was like Ty Gurley.
And I don't care about the arthritis on Ty Gurley.
No, no, no, that was a, that was a pick.
Todd.
Is Bejohn better than Todd Gurley?
Yeah, because I think so.
I'm a Georgia fan.
I'm a Georgia fan.
I'll say that right now.
I think Gurley is one of those guys that's being.
forgotten, right? Because like to me on the list of Georgia running backs, which by the way,
is an absurd list that's easy to forget is an absurd list.
Yeah. To me, it's Herschel. It's girly. And then you get to like Garrison Hurst,
then get to everybody else, right? But like Nick Chubb, Nick Chubb's up there too.
He's up there. I mean, Rodney Hampton's up there. Tim Worley's up there. There's a lot of a.
Poor Musa Smith can't even get in the room. No Sean Marino had a nice little one too. That's right.
That's right. He's nowhere. Like the guys that kid.
even get on this. The others receiving votes for Georgia is nuts. But the fact,
Bijad to me is a similar type player than Gurley and the fact that we're even there for me
is a like, okay. But my number two thing is I think there was room for a lot of skepticism
about Stefansky leaving Cleveland because of how poor they had been those last couple years.
And all I'm saying is if all it takes to make this offense work is Michael Pennix,
then maybe Stafansky plus this combination of guys that we all thought may have been
overdrafted a little bit is going to be okay.
Like, because I'm not there with Pennix.
I'm not.
I don't think he's bad, but I think he's a guy.
No, right.
I think, I think Penix is, and it's funny because like two weeks ago I said, man,
I don't, I don't give a crap about this Michael Pennix thing.
Like if this comes to a season where they go two and 15 and both wins are against the Saints,
like I'll take that.
I'll take that.
Because then you, because I thought like, man, like this offense just needs a competent
quarterback.
And what happened the first two.
weeks was I was going back and I was watching the games I'm like because I saw people you know
complaining about the scheme when Cooper Rush was starting I was like I'm watching the games like man
this scheme's fine like there's open guys like all over the place but the quarterback play is so
bad like you're not getting to it like the one there's one play that really sticks out my mind from
the uh the panthers game where they lost 34 to 3 and it's like clean pocket there's no pressure
Kyle Pitts is wide open along the right sideline and he had the skyscraper to go get the ball
he's 6-6-6-brough?
Why is he have to go full extension
when he's not covered
and there's no pressure?
Like that should be hit him right in the chance
and we're running.
But it's really just like that's how bad
Cooper Rush was.
And quite honestly, like that's how bad
the quarterback play in Cleveland was last year
where you're just trying.
The reason why I like the highest
because they were just,
they were finding any way they possibly could
to move the ball.
And most of that was through screens
with like Quinn Sean Jenkins
and the other running backs.
But at some point, you need somebody to hit a throw,
somebody to drop back and make a throw down field.
And that's something that Michael Panics can do.
It's always going to land in the right spot.
No, but on Monday, it did.
So we can work with that.
And I think I don't want people to get like too far ahead of themselves
with Pennix because this has only been two games
and like the large sample size,
when you look at the whole totality of his Falcons run
has been pretty bad.
And he's only played, I think, 14 or 15 games at this point.
due to, you know, sitting behind Kirk Cousins and then getting hurt last year.
So there's still a long way to go with that.
But I think it does show that, you know, this guy, like, he won two Coach of the Year awards.
He's not, he's not clueless, you know.
He might be the best coach ever, but he's not, he's not a bozo.
And I much as.
Okay, no, no, no, no.
He was a bozo when he made that John Watson trade in Cleveland.
Well, I don't, I mean, I don't know if he did that.
But I don't got to be part of that.
I'm not sure if he did that.
I will put it that way.
But I will, the problems DeFansky had is that much of what we will call the Atlanta
Falcons demographic had a gripe against him.
About Shador.
It's all that one.
And I do wonder this.
It's DeFansky knew that Atlanta was going to be his next stop.
Would he have tried a little harder for Shador just to make his life a little bit easier?
Because they was going to lose regardless.
You know what I'm saying?
See, no, I remember I came on this show and I said, I wasn't surprised this
Defansky went to Atlanta because there's only one other team that couldn't ask him,
yo, why did you do?
What was up with that Deshawn Watson?
That was crazy.
Because the Falcons were in order too.
You know, they tried so hard to get Deshaun Watson.
So I, like, I'm, I'm pleased.
And I really think the part of the Falcons fan base, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've,
For like 10 years, I've been calling these people Des Bryant Twitter, you know, like, where it's just, you know, if you've seen Des Bryant's Twitter account, you kind of get what he's about.
And I think that a lot of our brothers and sisters can fall like somewhere in that bucket, right, where you're just like, I don't know if I, I definitely agree with you that there is racism, but I'm not sure I agree with you on what the racism actually is, you know?
Yeah, I need people to stop doing that, by the way, because I find myself having to give that answer for.
far too much and I don't like how it makes me feel.
Me feel right.
Like, bro, I saw, I saw a post that said Kevin Sifansky was buckbreaking Shador
Sanders.
I'm like, bro, do you know what that means?
Yeah, dude.
I was like, I don't like how.
Like, for example, when I had the little baby face situation, they was getting mad at
me because Ryan's face would come up on the screen and they were like, he'd talk to a white
man about it.
I'm like, God damn, I signed the checks.
Y'all ain't happy with that?
Like, like, what are we?
I mean, I don't, I don't sign.
Well, I kind of do actually.
Yeah.
Like when it gets out of the bottom of it,
I'm like, damn, we have a white man lower than being the hierarchy,
and I can't even, I can't ask him a question to make the show run?
No.
No, that's right.
I don't like how that feels.
I don't like being put in that position.
And I don't like, I don't like defending Kevin Savanski
against, like, Shador Sanders.
Oh, I don't like how I feel.
Because honestly, I don't care about Shador Sanders.
It's not.
that interesting, you know?
I don't like how it feels.
So that's why I keep getting stuck.
I'm like, I was trying to explain in like, like the nicest way possible.
I gave up after a while.
I'm like, bro, like, this is someone that the Falcons should try to hire, like, if it comes
to it, just because the Rahim Moore stuff, it got so, so sloppy at a certain point.
And, and, and, you know, why I've been telling my friends, like, you, we, you just needed to get
somebody competent under center is because, like, we've seen.
seen Kevin Savansky do this before with like Baker Mayfield. I mean, Baker Mayfield has,
I think a lot of people think Baker Mayfield's a lot better than he is. I agree. Yeah, he's certainly
competent enough like running offense that can score points if you got pieces around him. I think
Pennix is probably in the same bucket. Will you hit a wall with this? Yeah, I don't know how the
playoffs are going to look if they could make it that far. I mean, there's this only two and two. So there's a
way to ways to go. But the past two weeks is the most fun. I've had,
watching the Falcons play in a long, long time.
And it also does bring it back to, you know,
a conversation that I was having with my coworker Daniel Popper here,
where we were talking about like,
like what the Dolphins should do with, you know,
their draft pick next year.
And I'm like, what do you mean?
They're going to take a quarterback.
Like, if they're going to have the first pick in draft,
they're going to take a quarterback.
And what I was saying was like,
I watch a team with Bejon Robinson and Drake London
that can't score.
Yeah.
You know?
Like, like, they didn't even get to the red zone until panics came back.
Two games, zero red zone plays, not even drives.
Like, they didn't even get close.
So, like, as fun as the, you know, the Bijan stuff is, and he's fantastic.
Like, he has some nice runs in both of those games.
Obviously, all this stuff opened up when you had someone that could just throw the ball
downfield.
And I'm sure, like, you're going to have games where panics can't hit anything.
But when it looks like it did on Monday, it's pretty fun because at least he's got a
Zuka, you know? Like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's fun to watch. I had a blast on Monday. And now,
you know, Lamar, Lamar Jackson's out on Sunday. That's how I was about to say. They get a home,
they get a home game. And Snoop Huntley, they, they, they, they're going, the, the Falcons could
be three and two and hitting. They're going, they're going to red top black pants, too,
on Sunday. Oh, boy. I'm back. I'm back. They got you. They got you. They got you. By the way, good
chance that the Browns are going to wind up being four and one. That's crazy. They get to play
against the Jets.
And again, things that don't make me feel very good.
Good, good.
Talking about Eric Glynn,
I got,
I got nasty D.
I got nasty D.
over here.
I got Eric Glynn who,
oh, man,
this is not going well.
Oh,
no,
no.
And I think,
I think what has become,
sadly,
like,
apparently clear for the Jets this year is
Aaron Glenn is kind of holding them back.
Yeah, because they they have enough where they because honestly I think the Jets they're kind of
They're kind of like the poster boy right now for you know that tanking shit sounds fun until you're doing it yeah you know
Until you're going out there every Sunday knowing you're about to lose like 45 to six
and he's going to eat this on the chin so like they went in this off season and they signed basically a bunch of adults like minka fitzpatrick
Gino Smith, like real credible NFL players.
And those guys, like, have been big approvals for them to the point that I can see,
man, Aaron, I don't think that this is, it's the game management stuff, which is really,
really bad.
The timeouts, like, man, man, just count the three, man.
Man, but that is so interesting.
To me, that is game, like, clock management is such an intuitive thing that clearly.
So, like, in this business, I don't remember if I've done this comp here.
But an amorphous sort of skill in this business is reading a teleprompter.
Some people just can't do it.
And what is it?
It's reading.
That's all it is, but it's reading and the thing is moving at the same time.
And so you kind of need to go over and down and there's lines and there's levels and all
this stuff.
And at the end of the day, it's just reading.
And I know very intelligent people who just can't read a teleprompter or can't read an update
as a radio producer or things like that.
And it's not because they're not smart.
It's just the thing that they can't do.
Andy Reid is awful with the clock, for example.
Still awful.
Still to this day.
They got so good that we stopped talking about it.
But it's one of those things.
Some people are bad at it.
And if you're going to be bad at that,
you better be Andy Reed and be good at everything else
because you're bad at the things that we can see.
Like I think there are a lot of coaches
that are good at the things that happen in practice, right?
The things we can't see.
Eric Glenn is awful at all the things that we can't see.
can see, including press conferences. He's just really bad at press conferences. Yeah. Yeah. It's
it's not a great situation. It's not a great it's it's not a great it's it's not a great
situation and like like Andy like he's still doing even a couple weeks ago against the the
Colts like he could have ended that game before it went to overtime and no they just
sat on the timeouts and I think that that that's one of the funniest things to me because you
hear a you're here you hear people like oh you know, you know,
why don't they just hire game management coach they do they do they just don't list that
motherfucker yeah no no you know why because if it goes wrong and i come to the to the to the podium
what i'm a say yo it's that guy that that that's not my job she mean that's not your job it's not my
job we outsource that we got some uh we got some we got some we got some dude in mumbai on a
computer we said that we sent that job over to india yeah bro and they'll give you all the information
you need you know they'll drill you on hey
in this situation, you should use like the two minute warning as like your fourth timeout kind of.
And then when it comes down to the game, there's like, what was that nerd got to do with what we're got going on here?
Right.
You know, or the fourth down decisions too.
Yeah.
That nerd doesn't have to answer for it.
Like so many of these decisions that people like acting like life is madden, you do all kinds of stuff when you don't have to answer any questions about it.
Now, great, should those questions dictate your behavior?
Probably not.
However, in real life, I.
I got to answer for this.
Right?
Like, I'm the one that's got to stand behind it.
Nah, man, not going to happen.
I do want to ask you this.
Before we get too far along in this,
Monday night, all you guys in the secondary,
you're going to have a long day,
but it could be your lucky day.
Because on one side is Josh Allen
and on the other side is Matthew Stafford.
You will have opportunities to put a little something on them incentives, right?
You also might get lit up for a few hundo in the course of this game.
I am very intrigued by this one
because the Rams, I said before the year,
I don't know if I said this about them.
I know I definitely said this about the Sixers
that they had Eagles Dream Team potential.
You remember the Eagles Dream Team?
Yeah, I remember the Eagles team.
Yeah, I was like, oh, there's potential for that.
And the Rams are looking kind of like that, right?
Miles Garrett hurt, Aaron Donald, old, and things going there.
The offense ain't really humming like we thought.
And then meanwhile, in Buffalo, it's amazing.
Boy, when Josh is humming, it's all good.
Josh do Josh stuff.
they go pull up that pull up that turnover package yeah yeah if you look on look on the desktop yeah
that's the folder right there it's always ready yeah i mean this is kind of those other thing
another thing where we were talking about jalen hurts earlier and it's like man whatever like
i've watched so many of these game replays like this i don't really get myself i don't feel
of myself getting charged up about it i've kind of the same way with Josh to allen turnovers
like and especially with with Josh i'm like what we're going to do we're going to bench him
play.
We're here now.
We're here now.
We're locked in.
Like, he's one of the best quarterbacks of the league.
He's going to make it to the Hall of Fame and you're going to have to eat like a
handful of place per game where you're like, what the fuck were you thinking?
Like, what was that?
Again, Stafford's the same way.
Right.
And Stafford, like, low key, like, he's getting, like, you can, I think you can see this year,
man, he's getting old.
It's getting old.
Like, he's missing some throws that he used to hit that used to be kind of automatic for
him.
But with Josh, like the Texans game week one, perfect example, the final two plays of the game where you had Kamari Laster, Josh threw a perfect pass to Houston Texan's cornerback, Camari Laster, and hit him right in the hands, and he dropped it.
And then what did he did the next play?
Post right up the middle, split the safety, right, missile right down the middle for a touchdown that let them win the game.
And you're going to, you will live with that because you're going to.
get more of the highs for the most part. And I think in this game, like, man, I think the bills are
kind of in trouble because that secondary is not in great shape right now, not in great shape at all.
So we're going to see a lot of points, but also like Stafford at this point, if you can get
pressure on him, he's not moving. You know, that's a spot where he's not, he's not like as spry
as he used to be as he, you know, he has, you know, the healing chambers to come fix his back
outside of the Rance facility. But still, I think they're in a spot where, probably,
probably going to see a lot of points in this one.
You're going to see a lot of turnovers.
This is probably going to be a pretty fun game going on Monday night.
But the Josh Allen stuff, I'm having fun with it as someone who doesn't root for the bills.
If I root for the bills, I'd be like, man, you're like, you're so much better than someone
this slop that you put out.
But what are you going to do?
Benjamin.
It's like me and Russell Westbrook.
I never had to root for him.
Therefore, he could be my favorite player.
Right, exactly.
Like, oh, boy, I wish he wouldn't have done that.
Oh, well, moving on.
Giants, who did Giants played?
Oh, Giants played a command.
And those.
How long they're going to keep winning games with James?
Is it just as long as they keep playing bombs?
Yeah, that's that's about it.
That's about it.
I mean, the Cowboys won week one.
That looks a little, looks a little funny.
I think now.
I mean, it's irrelevant.
The quarterback they had is not playing.
Yeah, actually, that's a great point.
I forgot, I forgot that Jacks start playing that game.
And then like the Titans game, that was crap.
And last week against the Cardinals, I think.
The defense played pretty well.
I thought James, like, while his stat line kind of looked okay, still did not play that well.
I think it's just, it's kind of tough for them when they're wasting as many yards,
giving it to camps, get, waste as many plays to say, given it to Camp Scataboo, like, as they do.
Like, you got James, you guys, say, Walt.
You, but, like, but see, that's where I'm with the Giants.
Like, my Giants fans, friends, like, you guys like this?
Like, I know you're three in one, but like, is that all that matters?
Just three and one?
Is that it?
I know enough about the Giants history we all do.
And all I'm saying is if they're going to get stuck playing James,
then damn it, they're going to get a ball to Scatterboot.
You know what I'm saying?
If they're going to have to try James out here,
they got to get a ball to Scatterboo.
They're afraid they're going to be the people going to stop buying season tickets.
Have you looking at his numbers this year, Camp Scataboo?
I have not.
No, go, go on, go on.
Take a look and see what Mr. Battery and Ram is up to right now for the Giants.
Ooh.
That's not.
That's not good at all.
He's on pace for almost 300 carries and less than 1,000 yards.
You won't talk about somebody riding that DEI wave.
Not that he doesn't deserve his job,
but he is definitely, there's a novelty effect.
There's no question of the novelty situation there.
If he could just be a little bit better, boy,
they make him into John Riggins.
And going back to the quarterback,
Amos is the one that gets to be the guy that gets to start all these games for the Giants,
you know?
He's played K and T.
a certain type of a palette.
I think that I don't know.
I can't tell how it all this he is.
I can't tell how it on the joke he is.
I don't know how any.
It doesn't seem like he's having fun right now.
And he also looks like he didn't lift the weight all summer
while he was doing World Cup coverage.
But I digress.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know what to make of any of the James.
It is, oh my God, it's so much.
Here's the thing, though.
Do the Giants understand that James is their guy all year?
because he's still better than
JJ McCarthy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I guess they have to.
I thought that that trade was just kind of
more horrible brothers sharing stuff.
They keep doing it.
They keep doing it.
Hey, man, can you do me a solid man?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I said all this stuff about JJ McCarthy
before the drafts and if he's like out of the league,
like that would kind of bad on me, bro.
But what if Jim is like, look, man,
you got to keep Willie.
If you get to have Willie, then you got to do this for me.
For those who don't know, Willie Taggart is Jack Harbaugh, the dad Harbaugh.
Willie Taggart's his favorite player, as long as there's a Harle ball in the league.
And I think that Jim recruited him to West of Kentucky.
I think so, yeah.
As long as a Harle Ball has a job, Willie Taggart will also have a job.
And I can imagine the two of them fighting over who got to have Willie.
Yeah.
But, man, they love him some Willie Taggart, some Greg Roman.
Yes.
You know, Mike, they had, they both had Mike McDonald's, because Mike McDonald was in the Ravens and Michigan.
But hold on.
Think about this.
After John Harbaugh leaves and goes to New York, who do the Ravens hire?
Jesse Mentor and who, a Jim Harbaugh guy.
Yep.
Jesse, who also used to coach for the Ravens, you know.
Yes.
So, yeah, another guy who coached for both Harbaugh's.
That's why, that's why, I like mentor a lot, but I think the one thing to have me was like, hmm,
I was like, man, you guys, this is not all that different than what you were doing before.
But, I mean, they're on a different time, I think, with that offense.
Like, once they get Lamar back and if they can get Zay Flores to just consistently stay in the lineup down the stretch,
like, ooh, they're going to score a lot of points.
But, you know, the Giants, man, they're three and one, and they could be four in one.
And I guess that that's something right at home about.
But even when you look at some of, like, they're projected, like, playoff chances,
It's still not that high, even though they're three and one in leading the division.
I think people kind of look at this like it's funny money as you probably should.
Yeah, last thing right fast.
Can the Packers beat the Bears with the Bears playing tights in Beijing?
I don't think so.
And see, that is another reason why I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself on this Falcon stuff because the Packers look awful.
I mean, like last week, Jalen Daniels, who, I mean, I mean, I don't.
I liked watching at Kansas.
Like he was a fun little guy.
What did I say?
No, no, you did say Jaylen.
I'm just making sure the people know.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, about Jaylon Daniels, not to be confusing.
Yeah, not JD.
Right, right.
Jaylen Daniels, the backup quarterback undrafted rookie for Tampa Bay.
For an undrafted rookie, he looked like okay,
which I think is a really bad sign for the Packers, you know,
because he was a guy who, Jaylon,
he was a guy who was supposed to maybe,
come out like a few years ago but didn't quite pan out and then he ended up playing some extra
years and like kind of got together his last year at Kansas but certainly not a guy where you're
like oh man like we're we're we're barely scraping by against him in the NFL game in his first
start no no no that that's that's a bad sign so I think like what you saw from case Keatingham
and the Eagles in that game I wouldn't I think we're probably going to see something pretty
similar like Ben Johnson on another level and a Tyson Bay is certainly good enough to just throw
to wide open guys if that's what the Packers are going to allow like they did against the Falcons
you know the Packers just can't block no they can't yeah that that's that's the that's the biggest
thing like their their offensive line is really like in shockingly bad shape considering the
organization like they because they've always had you know a handful of guys that you trust up there
but now that uh Zach Obeko Bewele I think is his last name now he tours patel attendant early in the season
back has been bad
Everyone on the interior is bad.
And, like, one thing that was crazy about the, the Falcons game I remember is it was
week three.
And Jordan Love seemed like punch drunk on the season.
And then I looked at how many times he gotten hit.
And he was at almost like 35, 40 quarterback hits through three games.
I was like, shoot, he's getting lit up back there.
And like quarterback hits.
Like, those, those defenders have gotten a little bit scared of just lighting up the
quarterbacks. Like if you can get enough pressure that you can have games where he's getting
hit 12 times against the the Falcons and then like 15 times against the Vikings in week one,
I can get being a little bit scared, man. That shit hurts.
