I'm inclined to believe you are a hater.
It is that time of week where we have a guest join us coming to us live from scenic,
not New York, New York.
check them out on first things first five o'clock eastern danny parkins what's going on man
beau great to be here how are you my friend well i already walked people through on monday
my experience of sunday during the game um sharing in the good times with both you and jason goff
and then you and jason golf not sharing the bad times after your quarterback went off on a cart
but did you feel better when you found out that he was walking around like is
Are there any cause for optimism here?
Of course.
And how do you feel about the fact that he's trying to look just like Jason Campbell?
Okay.
So I have a lot of opinions, obviously.
And if the accusation is that I'm a fair weather face timer, guilty is charged.
Wait, wait, wait, we're so excited at them with the four yard run.
Oh, my God, dude.
Like that play before the field goal, I was like, he's Neo in the Matrix.
Like, my quarterback is a magician.
like I will answer all of your calls.
And then when he went down and I saw you call,
I was like, no.
I'm sure you weren't going to twist the knife completely,
but I couldn't deal with it in the moment.
No, no, I came to be helpful, by the way.
You decided, you know what?
Maybe I'll be a better dad, huh?
Maybe I'll go hug the kid.
Yeah, I was doing Legos during the four o'clock slate.
Doing some Batman Legos with my man, Owen, the six-year-old.
Yeah, it was a,
Listen, I am thrilled.
Like all things considered,
I thought the season was over
and it was going to be 11 months
before I could watch Caleb Williams play football again.
Like, that's what I thought, right?
And so any penance or price that I have to pay
with memes on the internet and jokes,
I will take for the fact that they're not ruling him out
for Monday night football against the Eagles.
Now, I do not expect him to play Monday night against the Eagles,
but like the fact that they're not talking about the IR,
that he could be back in a week or two or three,
I will pay any amount of internet price
that I have to pay for that result
because he's the man.
He's the man.
He's the man.
It's like, get your jokes off now,
sell your stock now.
I would recommend buying the dip personally,
but like my quarterback is the man
and I am totally comfortable
and confident that he will have the last laugh.
So I feel like your quarterback,
exist in an interesting state that we don't see very much in today's football,
which is if I were to put John Elway's stats in front of you,
particularly for the pre-Shanahan era,
you really don't have much of a reason to understand what the big deal is here
from what people have talked about.
And then you'll watch it.
And you're like, oh, so we took, we got some granted.
and we made a quarterback.
Isn't that something, right?
Like the all-time eye test guy.
Caleb Williams, to me, is kind of existing in that space,
even to a degree in that first game,
which is part of why pro football focus said that there were like 20
quarterbacks who were better than him.
When you're watching it, it does not look like that at all.
And you feel like, and I think this is really kind of all you can ask for as a fan,
and it's extra fun, especially when you don't root for a guy like that,
is anything can happen right now.
right? Like the ceiling on what he can do on one play is higher than I, I don't know higher
in the world with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, but it is way up there. Yeah, I think, I think it is
on that level. I think an individual talent basis, like physical talent, I test. I talk about
I test all the time. I think he's a 99 percentile guy. And so it's wildly fun. And no doubt,
the stats are not there yet, but it's year three in the league, year two in Ben Johnson's system.
Like, I do believe the stats were coming, and I don't think that's being some sort of Homer.
They scored 59 fucking points in, in week one.
And Ben Johnson got Jared Gough to have ridiculous stats.
So, like, I have no reason to believe that the stats.
Was that supposed to me, man?
Was that supposed to me?
I'm just saying Caleb might be a little bit more physically talented.
You might be a little bit more.
He might be a little bit more gifted than Jared Kauf.
And so I think the stats were inevitable and were coming and still are going to.
And I think he is going to, I've said it all along.
We've talked about it a little bit.
He models his game after Rogers.
And one of the most impressive, if not the most impressive individual quarterback seasons of my lifetime is Aaron Rogers,
2011 when it was 45 touchdown, six interceptions.
Because he also was up there at the top in yards per attempt.
Like, there was no checkdown to his game.
And he didn't turn the ball over.
And he was a big game hunter and he put the ball in the end zone.
Like Caleb doesn't turn the ball over.
He recently has developed the ability to not really take sacks.
And he goes for big plays.
And he has that eye test, wow, arm strength,
escapeability and physical ability that makes,
you believe that anything is possible at any given moment like you're talking about.
So I think seasons and stretches of play like that are coming,
and I think they're coming sooner than later.
I think, though, I,
the only thing about modeling yourself after Aaron Rogers is Aaron Rogers is risk averse to a fault.
Like, I do think that our modern interpretation in just about all sports,
um, overvalue efficiency, right?
Like overvalue the, oh, as long as you don't ever take a step back.
And kind of what I like about Caleb Williams is,
no, no, no, no, no.
Every now and then, hey, baby, we make an omelets.
You understand what I'm saying?
Yeah.
Right, like, that's what he's doing out there.
We are making omelets.
They only scored three points, though,
and it wasn't looking good.
And I'm with you.
I've watched your coworkers try to pick on you,
chastise you, right?
It was terrible weather,
and we know this for the reason that you pointed out
the bears only gave up nine points.
Okay, what am I missing in that argument
that I feel like is,
iron clad and indisputable.
And when they push back on me and they're like, well, the Vikings have Carson Wentz or like
the Vikings aren't talking about being the greatest offense in the history of the sport.
Like, fine.
Like if that's why the bears have to catch more jokes because their coach is talking the
talk and for a game he didn't walk the walk, I will accept that.
Like if you talk big and then you fail, people are going to, they're going to celebrate your
downfall. That's life, that's sports. I have no problem with it. And I can also tell you,
Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams have no problem with that either. Like, catching the memes is fine.
The Vikings scored 39 points in week one. They have Justin Jefferson. If I would have said to you,
hey, going into that game against the Bears defense, they're going to have less than 250 yards,
they're going to be three of 13 on third down, and they're going to have zero touchdowns, you would
thought that it was Noah's Ark, like biblical type of weather. So something tells me that the
conditions in that game played a massive factor in how low scoring and inefficient the offense was.
Like I don't think that's a stretch. Nobody thinks that Dennis Allen dominated Kevin O'Connell.
So to come out of the game declaring some sort of like long-term victory of Brian Flores over
Ben Johnson, given those were the conditions both ways, just seems ridiculous to me.
I will tell you this, though, I am starting to feel like Minnesota's going to win that division.
Well, they're the favorite now. They've won seven straight games dating back to last year.
And remarkably, the last four that they've won have been with four different quarterbacks.
That is never happened before in the history of the NFL, four straight wins, four different starters.
So they are a good team.
I will reserve judgment on that because we'll see.
I know you're bullish on Kyler Murray.
I liked the Kyler Murray edition for them too.
His first pass with them was an interception.
There can be a learning curve for guys going into completely new systems.
We're seeing it with my other guy, Justin Herbert,
which I'm sure we'll talk about at some point in Los Angeles.
I'm not confident that he can't lose you a game right now.
So this division, I think, is far from over.
And before the year, I said that it was the only division in football
where all four teams could win it and all four teams could lose it.
So I still think it's wide open.
I just saw the Vikings go 2 and O with Carson Wentz.
Yep.
I just watched a team win a Super Bowl with Sam Darnel.
I would also like to point out to people,
Drew Locke looked pretty good on Sunday,
which implies to me that that Sam Darnel thing
might not be what people keep insisting that it is, right?
He might be, as I call him, same Darnold,
perhaps slightly improved, maybe better than it was before, but not different.
He's same Darnold.
Same Darnold's out there.
I just feel like you could do okay with Kyle and Murray.
I think, I think that they will do, I think they will do okay with Kyle and Murray also.
I completely agree with you.
I just, I'm not, I wouldn't write off Detroit.
Their secondary is ravaged with injuries.
Their offense is awesome and their schedule is easy.
And I would not write off the Bears because I still think their offense.
is going to be supreme and Caleb Williams is not going to miss a lot of time. And by the way,
they beat the Eagles last year on Black Friday. So if it's Case Keenum, I think that's a problem,
but the Eagles offense looks terrible through two games. The Eagles have beaten Washington and
Tennessee by a grand total of six points. Like I'm not, I'm not conceding Monday night football
yet, no matter whose quarterback. So it's interesting because when I have tuned in and seen the Eagles,
it is while Jalen Hertz is playing well, and then I look at it and like you're barely beating bones,
Right? Because I try, you know, you and I are both, we've talked about this many times.
We have the same problem with Jalen Hertz, which is we have our ideas of how good he is or more accurately how good he is and not, except for those two times the outplay Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
Correct.
It's a, it's a complicating situation.
When I've looked in, he's been standing tall in the pocket, he's been making things happen.
I went back and looked at them stats and like, damn, where did them two interceptions come from?
They weren't while I was watching him out there looking good.
they have two wins.
Some of his numbers are pretty good.
Devante Smith, I think, is really good.
I don't think the plan, though, is 30 plus pass attempts per game.
Like, I'm just pulling up his numbers.
His numbers are fine.
His quarterback ratings over 100.
You would obviously take that.
But I want to go real quick.
The concerning thing for me with the Eagles would be Seekoine Barkley.
and their offensive lines specific.
Sequin has 19 carries through two games with 92 rushing yards.
Like that's just not the plan.
They are supposed to be a good rushing team.
Tank Biggsby has 14 carries.
Seqwan has 19.
Tank Biggsby's averaging two and a half yards of carry.
The Eagles are supposed to be able to be a team that crushes you on the ground
and then Jalen Hertz can play off of that.
I think that they're just been in, they've been in too many situations.
where Jalen Hertz's need to pass them out a third down.
And to his credit, through two games against bad teams, he has done it.
But maybe they beat the Bears with their backup quarterback situation and their bad
defense on Monday night and their 3 and O, they got the Rams in week four.
I do not think they can beat the Rams if they have not figured out their run game.
And their offensive line looks broken right now.
Look, offensive line matters most in determining what your rushing output is going to be.
The running back is kind of cherry on top.
their cherry on top is in year nine, I believe this is.
He was the pick after Mayfield, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
So he's in year nine.
So you have an offensive line that's not as good as it used to be.
And we just keep operating on the assumption that you can just keep trotting these
running backs out here and they're going to be as good as they had been at any other point,
which I just don't think is sustainable.
New offensive coordinator, a head coach that, despite all his success,
I don't take seriously. Maybe you do, but I don't find myself doing that. But it looks set up for them to be
three and O with like a point differential of speed. Correct. And listen, Philly fans get mad at me.
They probably get mad at you. I got plenty of positive things to say. I think their defense might end up being
excellent. They have a ton of talent. Linden Dickerson is hurt. He's supposed to be excellent. Like maybe he
comes back, maybe the offensive line improves.
Like, there's clearly a path here.
And to your point, you are again dealing with a new
offensive coordinator and a new system implementation.
And with how little these guys play
in the preseason, that takes time
and teams that how they look in September
is not how they will be in November and December.
So, like, I am open to the possibility
that it gets better
for their offense and that their defense just
carries them. But I just,
they are very, very fortunate
that they opened with Washington
and Tennessee. They are very, very, very
very, I do not think that they have played like a two and oh team. They've to me played closer to
to an oh and two team than a two and a two and a team. Yeah, this is, they're so interesting.
There's literally no telling how it's going to go with those guys. And yeah, it's anything
feels like it's on the board. They went to a Super Bowl to almost getting the coach fired to
winning a Super Bowl to last year where I still kind of feel like if they hadn't run the
Super Bowl before, they might even thinking about firing the coach. I think about firing the coach every
day. Yeah. And if if it doesn't work this year, you can't just fire Sean Mannion again.
Like you can't just keep firing offensive coordinators. Like eventually the buck will stop beyond that.
Yeah. We've talked about Jamlin Hertz and he doesn't have guaranteed money going forward on his
contract. But to your point, they could win 13 games. Like they absolutely have talent there that
could win 13 games. So I, it's a wide variance outcome type of team. And I get why Philly fans are
of it. I do. I would be too if it was my team, honestly.
Hey man, I want to stay in that division because I want to contend that you actually got
lucky on Monday night. You did. And I want to say that you would never like wish injury
upon somebody just so like you could look good. But at the same time, Giants went about to win
that goddamn division. And now that quarterback looked like he hurt for the whole year. So you
don't really have to like answer for that one. You know what I mean? Like I think you,
I think you spared yourself from where that was.
was going. But at the same time, while I say that, we're talking about how ify Philly is and how bad
Washington is. And the Cowboys, okay, right? They already took a loss to the Giants. They did.
They did. You were looking great. I'll tell you, boy, you were, you were riding high last Monday.
It was all setting up for you. Now the Giants are just going to be hilarious because it's going to be
James until they get tired of it. Yeah. And James, I assume he will look better with a week of
game planning as the starter. I don't know why. Yeah, I mean, listen, because he can't look worse.
Because he can't look worse. I mean, that was outrageous that. I mean, he was just chucking the
ball 60 yards down the field. Yo, I love that about him though. Like, so do I five years ago.
Well, no, this is what I mean. I feel like there are two kinds of backup quarterbacks. And it really
didn't become clear to me to like one of the recent Joe Flacco runs. And most of these backup
quarterbacks are these young guys. They only know so much of the offense, right? And they're just going
to try to nickel and diamond,
do whatever it is
that they feel like they can manipulate
from, you know, the office or whatever.
Them old cats like Flacco and James,
they're like, yo, suckers do
what they can, real ones do what they want.
And they're like, you're like,
you're not going to win doing that other shit.
We have a chance of winning if I start bombing.
And so James is always here for bombing.
And James is,
James to me is a he's a pattern reader
and so if he sees a couple things
and he thinks he knows where it's going
he makes that decision immediately
but he's also Mr. Magoo
I think he got his eyes fixed
but before he was Mr. Magoo
so he'd be making these half-cocked decisions
he's thinking about it but next thing you know
oh man there's somebody standing right there
ain't that something like this is going to be a hoot
yeah oh always and
listen Jamie one of the
first takes on national TV of mine that went like kind of viral and did really well back
when I was doing the morning show was like was I outlined like the full James and I was like
I want James to be somebody's quarterback. I just don't want him to be my quarterback and how we will
never see again James Winston's 2019 5,000 yards, 30 touchdowns, 30 interceptions. It will never
happen again. Like he is he is, I mean, he had a game in 2024.
Cleveland against Denver where he had nearly 500 yards passing.
Like he's just a tough guy,
but I think it was four interceptions.
Like he's a tough guy to figure out,
but it's yolo, he's fun,
it's just not going to win in the modern age.
And I will say,
Jackson Dart, man,
kind of a playmaker.
Like, yeah, now he's out and now he's hurt.
But do I think he is a guy that I would want to hang out with?
You know what I mean?
I'm not saying,
When I backed Jackson Dart, people were like, how could you do that?
Because he did this.
I'm like, man, I'm not talking politics here.
Like, I thought he was dealt a shitty hand as a rookie, and he scored a lot of points.
Like, 24 touchdowns, seven turnovers, zero games with Malik neighbors, play caller and coach
fired six games into his career, offensive line injuries, and he scored multiple
touchdowns in 10 of 12 games, ran all over the field.
I was like, man, I think that there's a talent there.
And then in week one, he proves me right.
And then in week two, he got hurt like everybody said he would.
I think Jackson Dart as playmaker is a fair characterization,
much like their current quarterback Jabas Winston.
Okay.
He makes plays, right?
Now, I'm not saying that Jackson Dart and James Winston are the same.
And I am saying that I thought that Jackson Dart looked good in that first game.
There is a bit of an irony, though, that, you know,
he was standing in the pocket doing what he was supposed to do,
and that's where he wound up getting hurt.
Like what I worry about with him,
the two guys that immediately jumped to mind
that fit this characterization to me are
Robert Griffin and Colt McCoy,
and that is two guys where, for whatever reason,
when they get hit,
it looks like Rocky just got hit.
Right? It is straight,
like you expect the sonic coins to come out of,
them whenever they get hit. It is not just a little tiny hit. It is like like,
Zalk for them. Like the word needs to be on the screen when it happens. Yeah. Also, the broadcast
of that hit and then all of the subsequent like reporting and what it was going on on the internet
who were like, oh, the trainer said four to six weeks. Jackson Dart wants to come back into the game.
I think Jackson Dart is going to be fine because he was up in the air when it happened.
And there was a lot of speculation that was going on.
And I was like, I don't know, it looked awful to me.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, do you think Jackson Darden knew why he was in the tent that time?
I think he did.
Yeah, for those of you who don't know, that boy said,
I don't understand why they keep sending me to the tent,
which is what I realized that I would not copy off of his paper.
I like, when he got in there, like, what was he in, I wonder what he thought they was in there to do.
Right.
Listen, again, I'm not saying that I, you know, want to get beers with the dude.
I just think that he's a playmaker.
and I would be excited about his potential as a quarterback.
Because I also think, like, to your James point a little bit,
like, I'm not terribly interested in trying to model myself after Brock Purdy.
It's working and good for Brock Purdy.
He's playing unbelievable.
But, like, I want you to display some sort of high-end playmaking ability.
Oh, see, that's interesting.
You say that because I think of Brock Purdy as a playmaker.
I think of him as a great processor.
He got a lot of yolo in him too, boy.
Like I, I, I worry that you made.
I worry that you might be filing a little bit, Daddy Park.
I might be.
You might be honed against him just a little bit.
Jackson Dart got that misspelled name.
So you think that he's more likely to do playmaking type things.
But Brock Purdy right there.
I see, I, okay, Brock Purdy to me is I see it.
Like, he doesn't have great arm strength.
so he sees it faster than most people,
but he gets the ball out quick.
Like he get,
and like,
yes,
will he run a little bit?
For sure.
Does he run too much for my liking?
Yeah,
because he's not big and strong.
But I personally look at Brock Purdy as like,
he executes Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Like that is to me what I see.
I see him as an extension of his coach.
I'm not saying like brainiac.
I'm just saying like he sees the play and he gets the ball out of his hands.
Jackson Dart.
John Harbaugh was talking about using him like Lamar Jackson.
Like, you know, like, I think he was going to run his ass around a lot.
I have to say, when I saw John Harbaugh say that, I was like, hey, hey, buddy, buddy.
I know, I know that I know you feel like you kind of got to do that, right?
Because he was your last quarterback and you want to instill some confidence in him.
But that's, that's a futuristic thinking that I simply don't possess.
I hear you.
I'm just saying no one would say that about Brock Purdy.
Fair.
No, no, no, no one would, no one would say that about Brock Party.
John Harbaugh would say that because that was just what he was obligated to say.
Is that maybe it?
I normally think of Jim as the more hyperbolic Harbaugh
when he said that Justin Herbert is the greatest quarterback of all time,
among other things.
But I guess John has a little gym in him.
I mean, they came out of the same house.
They did.
They did.
Let's not forget it.
He's got it better than us.
And they are two wide-eyed optimists.
They are.
Like, that's how they got to where they are.
are is like through straight ahead, wide-eyed optimism.
I ask you about one more team before we go into break.
Are you optimistic about the New England Patriots?
Because I came away from looking at that game,
simply thinking that the Steelers are going to stink.
And Aaron Rogers is cooked and the Patriots are going to be in a,
Drake May will not get an extension at the end of this year.
That's my hot take.
Wow.
Wow.
I think the pay.
That is a hot take.
I think the Patriots may be willing to offer him one,
but not at the price that he thought he might be able to get one,
say, like a CJ Stroud situation.
Okay, that, yeah, I mean, that is a flaming hot take.
I love it.
I mean, look, man, how many games in a row has you look bad?
No, I mean, we're at, what, six?
Yeah, I mean, it's a lot of them.
You know, you're right.
I want to, listen, I know I'll come on again.
I want to revisit that one every time we come on because.
I know.
Because you might get to turn this back around.
Well, no, no, no.
Listen, listen, I just like, I had not even considered the possibility.
Like, I thought, like, Caleb and Drake will get their offers and they will get more.
Because, like, the goal, if you know you have the guy, you want to sign him as early as possible.
Like, that's just how it works.
Like, you don't want to.
The reason that Stroud didn't get a real offer is because they weren't sure they had the guy.
The same thing with Bryce Young.
Like, you're not sure you have the guy.
And the fifth year option and the franchise tag are those types of protections for the teams.
I just can't see a world where, yeah, it was against an easy schedule.
And I know wins are not a quarterback stat.
But runner up for league MVP wins the.
wins the
AFC in his second year in the league
has all of the fit
he checks all the physical boxes, right?
Like Rice Young does not check all of the physical boxes.
I can't see a world
where they decide
three years from now
we don't want Drake May to be our quarterback.
I guess what I'm saying is
I don't think he's going to have a good season.
Yeah, no.
And if he doesn't have a good season,
then they're going to try to
hit him with one number.
And I think that his side will be like,
okay, I think we're going to need to,
I think we're going to need to wait this out.
But the perception,
I do not think the way we talk about Drake May as MVP runner up last year,
those aren't going to be the terms that we use.
I think at the end of this season.
Like I was watching Dominique on his show and was talking about watching
Drake May play.
And there's not a lot of calls for optimism here.
I agree.
I agree.
I mean, Wilds was like,
I'm keeping my eye on a shoulder injury.
And Nick was like, you can't keep your eye on an injury
when he's not listed on the injury report.
And for those who don't know, Kevin Wilde,
who is a co-holtz, who is a co-holtz of First Things First,
is a Patriots fan.
So that is him whistling past the graveyard
and hoping that actually his quarterback isn't a lemon.
Correct.
That is 100% true.
I do not think he is a lemon.
I will be interested to, like they open with Seattle and Pittsburgh.
And he lost AJ Brown.
and they have offensive line questions like last year.
Like I will be very, I will be, I'm willing to hold on to my priors a little bit longer on Drake Mae,
who I also loved coming out of college.
Yeah.
Like I was doing radio in Chicago and it was like, Caleb's the guy.
I bought a custom Caleb Williams, Bears jersey before that, like, before the season was even over.
I was like, this is the goal.
But in draft season, I was like, Drake May is the guy.
that I thought was the reasonable number two pick between him and Jaden,
and I thought that Jaden was going to be really good,
but I had it flipped.
So I like Drake May,
but that would be,
that would be fascinating if Caleb's the only guy out of that class
who gets a contract because Jaden won't.
No, no, no, unless he,
how long is he going to be out with the busted elbow?
Because it's the left elbow, right?
Yeah, but like, they're saying he doesn't want to do surgery,
but he's now had a couple of elbow dislocation.
like, I don't know, man.
That is a, that is risk.
Because he also looked dynamic before he got hurt.
Oh, you know who we'll get a contract?
Bo Nix will get a contract.
Oh, there's that guy.
Bo Nix will get a contract.
But I think that's another one.
It'll be interesting to see what the team is willing to pay.
Because we were hearing well into last season,
your buddy Colin coward.
Yep.
Talking or implying that Shaw Payton might not have been happy with Bo Nix.
and I'll say it.
If Colin Cowherd is telling you
that he thinks that Sean Payton
is not happy with Bo Nix,
it's probably because Sean Payton told him that.
That's on the board is all I'm saying.
Oh, I mean, Colin does not make any secret that,
I mean, he used to have Sean Payton on all the time.
Yeah, yeah.
He does not make any secret about that.
I'm not saying that it was a,
Sean tells Colin Colin Collins goes.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know that to be true or not.
Yeah, but I don't think he would not say that
if he did not have some,
implication from the man himself that there was such a problem. And we're going to find out
how Sean Payton actually feels about him. Right. Maybe it's going to be with all these guys
with the exception of Caleb Williams, because unless things go horribly this year,
hey man, you sold this too hard. Everybody's got to be in on this. But I think there's a good
chance that, well, there's an offer for you right here if you're willing to take this here for
the low, low price of da-da-da. And guys are going to be like, nah, I think I can play myself over
that. With Jayton Daniels, what I think is going to be interesting, especially,
with you saying that the team seems to talk of surgery,
but he doesn't want to have the surgery.
If the team wants to have the surgery and he is not going for the surgery,
we're going to find out pretty soon just how sick they are of him and his mama.
Yeah, again, and I don't have any extra insight into it.
It seems like they are not ready to have a complete decision on how they are going
to handle another elbow dislocation for a skinny quarterback who they need to be healthy.
and it's just like we showed on the show the other day
all of the times he's been hurt since he's been in the league
obviously I'm not a tough individual
I wear makeup to work okay
they are routine they are normal looking hits
is I think the fair thing to say they are not like the Jackson Dart hit
yeah they are they are really I mean that was a play where he wasn't even
really hit like he just kind of fell and put his arm down to brace himself
and his elbow went backwards and Tom Brady cursed on TV
like it was a they felt injury prone you know like it felt like these types of things would keep
happening i would not be comfortable paying jane daniels yeah uh coming up next we're gonna find out
if our good buddy danny parkins is still 10 toes down for just a herbert oh my god

All right, we are back with Danny Park and checking about first things first,
five o'clock Eastern on FS1.
You have, you got yourself in there on that Justin Herbert thing, which I mean,
I'll be honest with you.
I watched it when it started.
It felt like he was just doing something for TV one day and then you couldn't get out.
You know what I mean?
And that happens sometimes.
And now you're kind of stuck on this.
and the charges look like one of the worst teams in the NFL.
And we say that because they lost to two teams that we thought were going to be
two of the worst teams in the NFL.
And they lost both of those games.
I don't want to say at home,
but at the stadium where they play the majority of their games.
Yeah, that's right.
You know what I mean?
That's maybe the best way to put it.
So like, sub's your man's.
Listen, I mean, he has not been good enough.
It's bad.
You said that you had one word too many there.
You said he has not been good enough.
He has not been good, Beau.
He has not been good.
And listen, and I said before the year, and this is not any sort of rocket science take,
that like no team needed a fast start more than the Chargers,
because as you pointed out, they opened Arizona and Vegas at home, air quotes,
and then their next seven at Buffalo, at Seattle, home against Denver,
at Kansas City, at the Rams, home against Houston, at Baltimore.
It is arguably the hardest seven-game stretch I have ever seen in an NFL schedule.
The only saving grace is that there's a bi-week in there.
Like, it is ridiculous.
So they are in massive trouble, and the odds are, you know, only 15% of teams that start
0-2 make the playoffs.
Their season's probably over.
As someone who has a lot of take equity invested in Justin Herbert, I will point out
two things.
one, and this is from the preseason,
I am not alone.
Like, there is still, when you,
like, when Jeremy Fowler puts out his ESPN list
and he quotes all of the coaches, scouts, and executives
and they rank all of the players,
and it's like two are the top ten quarterbacks,
two are the top ten receivers,
Justin Herbert was seventh, seventh in the NFL,
before this year. That is off of that playoff game,
that is off of O and three.
Like, these guys are trying to evaluate individual
talent amidst the team game.
And so the guys who do it for a living who scout it, say he's the seventh best
quarterback in the world, even though his two worst games of his career are in playoff
games.
So, like, it's, they agree with me.
That's the preseason point.
Having watched every snap of both Chargers games, this is not to absolve him.
I promise it is not.
He is the person who is supposed to execute this offense.
It appears to me very clear that they are.
not up to speed on what Mike McDaniel is trying to do.
Dude, there were, and it went viral, so you didn't have to watch the whole game.
Justin Herbert is in the dude's grasp.
He's sidearming 25 yards down the field.
It is going to hit the dude in the chest who's standing there.
And his teammate, Mani Ramirez, dives and deflects it away from his own teammate.
Like it is, it was, he played defense against his own receiver who was standing
still. It was insane. Trey Harris
is coming in motion.
I'm one of those like, hey, we're going to do the pre-snap
window dressing stuff. And they
snap the ball into the dude in motion.
Joe Alt
leads the league in penalties.
He's got five of them
through two games.
They are, then you see like the
tight ends, the ball is perfectly in his hands
and it tips off and it becomes an interception.
And that's not the system. That's just
the chargers being the chargers.
Like they are not
up to speed yet on McDaniel.
And I love the McDaniel hire.
Most people seem to.
McDaniel and Harbaugh is a weird fit.
Just like about everything.
And so like the,
I think it is clearly taking them time.
And they're probably screwed.
Like if you call,
if you say that's an excuse,
I will wear it.
But like they're snapping the ball
into dudes who are in motion.
It looks like a team that needed more preseason to me.
I'll say a couple things.
I thought you did.
I thought you did pretty well, to be honest.
Number one, if Jim Harlebaugh was not quite as famous as Jim Harbaugh is,
they went into year three without winning a playoff game,
and they come out of this year like five and 12 under almost any other circumstance
for firing the coach.
I agree.
And I don't know if that, I mean,
that circumstance may exist here,
but I think that people need to start warming themselves up to the idea.
Like, I find that when coaches get fired and people,
of shock. It's just because they waited too long
to warm themselves up to the idea. For example,
last year, Shaw McDurbit and
John Harbaugh, obvious candidates to get fired if you just took
their names off and ran through what the circumstances
were. They're like, yeah, you guys are going to get either to
championship game or the Super Bowl or the coach is going to get fired.
If Harbaugh comes out here with this team and they win like five
games, the coach probably gets fired.
Yeah, I mean, if they're willing to eat the money.
Yeah, I mean, you know, they're willing to eat the money.
That's just, I mean, and I guess this is the charge.
so you never know about that, right?
Point number two, and it's something that I think we're saying
have an effect all around the league,
and I'm curious what you think about this.
At some point, don't you get out here and run some plays
during the preseason?
Like, this seems to be having an obvious effect
on the quality of play for the league in general,
but just for individual teams and their successes.
That's not to say that you've got to get out here and play four quarters,
but is it really that bad a thing to run your guys out there
for a drive or maybe a quarter?
and I think the argument against it obviously is,
what if they get hurt? And I'm saying,
if they were going to get hurt in that preseason game like that,
that same injury was going to happen when the regular season started, right?
You're just kind of pushing off when it goes down.
Yeah. So, and the Chargers,
they were so bad in their first preseason game,
and it was a very small amount of plays.
They brought them back in the second preseason game,
and they had a 65-yard touchdown to Quentin Johnston,
and everybody celebrated like crazy,
subbed everybody out,
but they ran five plays in the game.
They just happened to connect on one of them.
And they are saying, again,
because I'm so knee-deep in this,
I'm like reading charge of speed writers.
Like, they are saying
that the execution that they're seeing in practice
is just not translating to the games.
I tend to be a rest guys in the preseason
because you want to be healthy.
But as always, I think these things need to evolve.
If you are implementing new systems,
I think you need to play your guys
in the preseason is where I'm at right now.
Like, Sean McVeigh doesn't play anybody in the preseason,
but he's also been there for forever,
and he's got a veteran quarterback.
Like, if you are, hey, we've done thing one way for forever.
Jim Harbaugh has worked with Greg Roman for a long time, right?
And it's like, okay, now you're gone.
And now here comes Mike McDaniel,
and we're going to do more pre-snap motions
and more exotic formations
and more misdirection and eye candy
than we've ever done before.
You probably need to actually get live reps
of that outside of, you know, these controlled environments of the team scrimmages,
which, oh, by the way, is where their center got hurt before the year.
So, yeah, I think that they've messed up on that regard.
Jim Harbaugh said it after the opener.
He's like, I regret not playing guys in the preseason more.
So, you know, again, they're probably screwed.
Like, Sean McVeigh fell on the sword for how he handled the Australia trip.
And I thought that was great leadership.
But it might cost them home field.
Like, you know what I mean?
It doesn't mean it wasn't a huge mistake.
It means like good job taking accountability for it.
But at the end of that season in that division,
it might cost you winning the division, losing that division game.
The Chargers not putting more real live reps into their preseason when they were overhauling their system as much as they were.
Good chance it's going to end up costing them their entire season because there's no reason they should be 0-2 right now.
You had mentioned the 49ers a little bit earlier.
They came out okay from the Australia game
and then they got lucky because they didn't have to play a real game
when they came back.
They got to play against the dolphins.
Now they get a home game against the maybe better
than we thought one in one Arizona Cardinals.
It would be very interesting if the 49ers can keep going with this
because I think we agree that's the best division in the league
or at least at the very top.
That is the best division of the league.
I thought they were pretty sure to wind up being third.
that doesn't look like it's going to happen but it still can Seattle is still undefeated and the Rams looked good on Monday night
Seattle I think is going to make a real run at the Patriots 21 consecutive yeah it's almost like they're the
they're the they're the defendant of Super Bowl champions isn't that crazy I know I know it's who could
have seen it coming except people who watched football last year um yeah they're really good on the subject of
the Niners, though. They finished in third place in that division last year. And won 12 games
last year and were the third most injured team in football last year. So the argument for the
Niners before this year was very simple because everyone was like, well, Trent Williams and Fred
Warner and George Kittle and Nick Mosso, like their best players are old so they are more likely
to get injured again. Completely agree. Can you be slightly less injured than last year?
Like, can you be the 20th most injured team in football instead of the 29th?
You know, and then you won 12 games.
Now, you were not, you were not fielding a competitive roster in that playoff game against Seattle.
Like, that was an easy spot to see that they were going to get blown out.
But they're really good.
Like, they are really well coached and it's a really good roster so long as it's healthy.
And right now, wide receiver, notwithstanding, it is a.
pretty healthy version of the Niners. So they're really good.
You want to laugh at something right fast?
Let's do it. Do you realize how sorry the Falcons are?
Dude, they haven't had a red zone play yet.
Play. They have not had the ball in the red zone once. Like, it's the bad old days.
Like, they are, they are on a crazy run of not making the playoffs. The thing now is,
but we're just waiting for Michael Pennix to come back. And I don't think that's cause for
optimism at all. Um, it is relative to.
It's a Cooper Rush.
Yeah, or Cooper Rush and the big fella that they brought in after that.
Like, oh, yeah, what was that dude's?
Jack Stand, I think his name is.
Yeah, yeah.
They are so bad.
And I say all that to say, Packers better not lose to them.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, that would be a disaster for Green Bay.
Yeah, Jack Strand, hilarious.
Yeah, that would be a horrifying loss for Green Bay who hasn't won a game without Micah Parsons.
dating back to last year, and they keep blowing all these double-digit leads.
Green Bay is in a weird spot.
They've got an offensive coach who's conservative.
It's like I would, that would drive me absolutely insane.
It's like, you have a good quarterback.
Use him.
I don't, I know their offensive line is injured.
They're starting two backup guards, but like that, that would drive me insane if I was a Packers fan.
In Atlanta, it, the team building didn't make sense.
It's like, first round pick on Drake London,
first round pick on Bijon Robinson, first round pick on Kyle Pitts,
no pass rush, no quarterback.
And then when they feel like they need a quarterback,
they do penics and cousins at the same time.
And then they're like, oh, yeah, we forgot about pass rush.
And they trade a future first round pick to move back into that draft
and take the dude.
How's Jay, Pierce, in the middle of first round.
He's not available.
Yeah, he's a problem.
Yeah, to put it mildly.
And, but so it's like they,
they forgot to invest.
in the two most important parts of a team,
and then to try to like band-aid over it,
they did it in like the most expensive way possible.
Top, top pick on Pennix and $180 million on cousins.
First round pick on a pass rush or a future first-round pick on a pass-rusher
overdrafting both guys.
So like they just, it's been a very poor way to build a football team.
You see why I quit that, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was smart.
Yeah, like like, like you, you, you,
you've stuck it out with your guys.
I, yeah, I know, man.
I loyal to a fault.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I have the same friends since third grade.
Yeah, I like to think of myself as being loyal.
Like, I'm afraid that my attitude about the Falcons
is a reflection of a character flaw.
But I also feel like I'm, if I'm being real, man,
I'd like to think that I'm an inspiration.
You know what I mean?
Like, I'd like to think that I'm showing people
that you don't have to stay in toxic,
unhealthy relationships. Like, that's my thought. But right now, the Falcons have a worse point
differential than the Dolphins. I would, they got, they got destroyed by the Panthers. The
Panthers, who gave up 59 points to the Bears, gave up three to the Falcons. And again, they're,
they're playing bummed quarterbacks. I just don't know how much better it's going to be when
they bring out their one-legged quarterback, who may be a no-legged quarterback, because I feel like he's
torn up both of those needs. Yeah, he's got three ACLs now, right?
Dating back to college. Well, I'd assume he has none, but yes. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good point.
Somewhere between zero and two.
Yes.
But I believe he's torn it three times.
He at least will throw the ball down the field.
Like he will throw the ball outside the hash marks.
Like he's got a strong arm.
I don't know if he can throw it in the middle of the field.
I don't know if he can't just throw bullets to everybody.
But like he will at least throw the ball, which Cooper Rush does not do.
The week one game against Pittsburgh, one of my favorite things from that game, was Bejohn Robinson had 10 targets.
The rest of the Falcons pass catchers had nine.
Like he just, he all, it was like snap, uh, dump it off to Bejohn.
And then T.J. Watt had that pick six because they finally figured out like the only thing they needed to do was guard the swing pass.
Falcons.
Do you want to talk about what's happening to my guy, Caleb, online?
Or do you not want to?
I'm not aware of what's going on with him on.
line. Let me know. Oh, stop. Yes, you are. No, I'm not. Okay. The memes are hilarious.
I've got no problem with the memes. You know, it's like, uh, me on the hospital, me on the
uncomfortable couch after my wife goes through labor, fist pump in the air with the towel with the towel.
Right? Like me after I burn my, the top of my mouth with hot pockets. That towel fist, fist,
hilarious.
But like,
the worst people
are having the worst takes
and they're talking about his toughness,
they're talking about fingernail painting.
Oh, it's back now?
It's so bad, but like not from bots, dude.
I am not straw manning this.
I don't really want to say their names
because some of them are people that I have worked with
or like, whatever, but like ex-NFL players
calling him soft.
I did see one.
the one where you cool with his brother?
Yeah, and we haven't talked in a while.
But yes, that would be one.
A guy on his show actually used the word soft.
That guy said, you just can't do it.
It's reserved for the sacred thing.
That being right out on the cart.
Right out on the cart and cry.
Ex-offensive linemen said,
you just can't do it over a hamstring injury.
People talking about sexual orientation,
people talking about nails, people talking about how Chicago will never embrace him.
I just, the dude got sacked 68 times his rookie year and didn't miss a game.
He is objectively tough.
And I am, like, in the NBA, one of the criticisms of some of the ex-players is that all they do is shit on the current product.
How can you be these guys who played in the NFL and question his toughness when it's like,
I don't know. I saw Jackson Dark get hurt and try to get back into the game and walk around and stand up.
Maybe he should have gotten on the cart. Like, it just, it blows my mind how, I mean, it shouldn't because that I was going to say, like, how dumb people could be or how reckless people could be with their opinions because like that's obviously not true.
I've been around the block long enough to know that. But it's just a, and maybe I'm protective of my guy on some level.
but it just feels like lowest hanging fruit.
And again, I have no problem with the memes.
The memes are funny and fans should make memes
and he thought his season was over
and he might be back in a week.
Like, he's got to catch jokes for that.
I have no problem with jokes.
I do have a problem with the projection
on his toughness or the idea that he isn't masculine enough
for the guy on the internet to wears makeup to work.
I didn't know that we were still doing the fingernail painting thing,
which I'll be honest,
not my speed
but I do not take as
I'm not extrapolating too much out of this
except for the fact that it looks ridiculous
that's fine
again personal preference
yeah yeah but I just didn't
I thought that that
I thought we had gotten done with that
though I guess it's just going to be a thing
A that pops up every now and then
and B everybody's got a microphone
and nobody's got an editor
like that to me is the part about
the podcast economy that we don't talk nearly enough about
the issue isn't that it's too many
microphones. The issue is that it's not enough
producers, not enough people
to be like, hey, we're not going to do that.
Yeah. They're like, no, we just go ride
this out. And
listen, I get it. Like, I'm trying to
not say any names, even though people can figure it out.
But like, because like the idea
of clickbait and like, it,
they're just using his name
to get attention to their
thing. But some of these people
don't need it. They've got all the money in the
world and they've got plenty of attention.
It just, I'd be embarrassed.
I'd be embarrassed.
And I think that shame has just left the station a long time ago.
I will say this, though.
He has one tough guy ally in this,
and that is Leonard Fournett.
Dude, I saw that.
Leonard Fordnet is on the way near the you don't want it list.
Number one, he's from New Orleans,
and I ain't met a sucker from New Orleans yet, not once.
I don't think you want problems with any of them.
He offered to pull up on your bad about.
got it?
That would
I would
click.
For anyone who
remembers,
Leonard Fournett
was out of the game.
I think it was his last
home game at LSU.
He had been declared
out for that game.
He could not play.
There was a fight
between the two teams
before the game.
Leonard Fournett
goes out there on one leg
and after that declares
I'm going to play.
But he did not turn
into the football player
that we thought that he was
going to turn into. But he stayed
a dude that I don't think you want no problems with.
Yeah. And like,
he calls you out for your take and you just
tell him he needs to learn how to read.
Yeah, I wouldn't have done that.
It's so corny.
For a number of reasons.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For a number.
Like that's, that's, yeah, no, no, but yeah.
If Lenny, if Lenny say,
Lenny say he tough, I'm a role with Lenny.
Amen.
I'm right.
Last day before we get done with this, man,
we'd like to do this thing with you.
Danny Parkins lives in the mean streets of Westchester County.
That's right.
It'd be rumble tumble out there,
and he gets a chance to look at the police blotter
from the newspaper about what's going on out there in his hometown.
We got some new goodness.
We got some goodness.
I think you guys are going to enjoy these.
This is pretty good.
All right, number one.
A Colonial Road resident told police
that his wife's American Express card
was fraudulently used
to purchase $752 worth of shoes.
Methinks that the wife bought the shoes.
Hold on, hold on.
Here's the other thing about that.
They didn't just call American Express.
You called the cops.
Call the cops.
Call the cops.
Yeah.
I'm not disputing the charge.
I'm not canceling the card.
I'm getting law enforcement involved.
And hold on. Do you have an American Express?
No, I'm a chase guy.
Okay. I only bring this up to say this.
They have a very delicate fraud alert on there, right?
He did not get the text message raising the question as to whether or not it was fraud.
I also would say, just given what my wife says about some of the women around here and the cost of their shoes,
and my wife had some nice shoes
she's like
the wife 100% bought
$752 worth of shoes
because $752
of shoes does not even turn
you don't even get a head turn around here
all right next one
a driver on Tisdale Road
told police that another driver
spit on his car and he followed the driver
to confront him
the two began arguing
and when police arrived
the other driver told them
he had a medical condition
that caused him to spit
and it accidentally hit the
other car in the newspaper.
This is,
boy, that's what they call it a cops for, huh?
Dude, it's the best. It's the best.
We can keep it moving.
A resident of Montrose Road reported
that her Grubhub donut delivery
may have been drugged, even though
the container was sealed. Shortly
after eating a blueberry glazed donut,
she felt fatigued and her eye
began to twitch. The woman went to
Quest Diagnostics for a drug test and gave
herself an at-home test. Both
results were negative.
They followed this all the way to the whole part, huh?
Unbelievable, dude.
The Grubhub donuts were sealed,
but I'm convinced that I've been drugged.
Wow.
I'm thinking this person maybe doesn't have a ton of experience with drugs.
I don't know.
Wow.
It's pretty good.
All right.
I think we have, yeah, we got two more here.
A Willow Lane resident told police her car was missing from her driveway.
but later remembered she left the car at the Fenway Golf Club earlier that day and got a ride home.
You have to...
I mean, you have to move.
If you call the cops, because you got so hammered at the country club that you got driven home,
that you then think your car was stolen.
I think you just have to move.
One would think, but...
Right, I mean, that's just like the level, again, shame has left a bit.
And by the way, Fenway Golf Club, that's not an inexpensive place to join.
So I'm sure that was a very nice car.
And that's the part that makes me think this must happen all the time.
And by the way, like, shout out to you.
You got overserved at brunch and then you didn't drive home.
You were being responsible.
Then you were very irresponsible for calling the cops.
But you know what?
Those cops are just sitting in there playing paddle ball, you know,
pop or whatever.
They ain't doing nothing.
That's a, it's a Bayberry.
Hey, Barry PD going on over there.
Yep. And then here it seems like our monthly version of calling the cops on kids being kids.
A caller reported kids on electric bikes were riding on Greendale Road.
Police responded to the scene and found the youths were not disturbing anyone or damaging anything.
On bikes!
Look bad.
Kids on bikes. Where do I live? What is happening? These are my neighbors.
I'm just going to say this thing right here, man.
And it's like, I don't want people to think that I don't respect law enforcement
and what they have to do.
And it's some cops out there with real difficult jobs.
And then it's cast like this.
That's what I'm saying.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, this is not everybody's out here toiling and like legitimately fighting crime.
I would just be so embarrassed.
And I will also say, other than giving me great content in my group chat with my boys from back home, great content when I come on the right time with Beaumani Jones, it also has proven to be a pretty effective litmus test when I am at like school functions or youth sporting events.
if I bring it up to like other dads
like about along the buffet line
or the sidelines or whatever
like about an item here
if they think that it was a worthwhile reason
to call the police
I know you're not going to be a suburban friend of mine
and we can keep it moving
but if you also laugh at it
then I'm willing to continue the conversation
it's been a really nice entry point for me
you know what that's why we rock with you here
that these are the subtle ways
that we figure out who our people are
that's right yeah it's like little points
entry into conversation. Like, are you going to be tolerable for the next 60 minutes while these
four-year-olds pretend to play T-ball? Danny Park. Check him out. First things first, five o'clock
Eastern on FS1 here to give us the police blotter and his great takes. My brother, I appreciate you.
