Starting point is 00:00:05 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, presented by Intuit TurboTax. My name is Beaumani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We're going to get to what's going on in the NBA in just a moment. But the NCAA tournament starts this week.
Starting point is 00:00:32 We just got through Selection Sunday. people who watch and to a degree don't watch college basketball have sounded more excited about what has happened this season than honestly any season that I can remember. And it makes sense, right? There's a very high profile class of freshmen that, you know, looks like it'll be a lot of draft action going on, but this ain't about the pros right now, right?
Starting point is 00:00:58 We just talking about this. We got a lot of young cats that are there that have been exciting to watch that have been excellent. Then you combine that with the fact that this NIL money set up a world where it really isn't that advantageous for dudes to just run out of school and go try to get that NBA bread, right? And what I mean by that is like second round pick money.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Like, Ryan, you're an LSU grant. In this day and age, how many years would Nause have stayed at LSU? And for those who don't know, you think of Nause Reed is like, think he was undrafted or a second round pick or something. Second round pick. Yeah, second round pick, but he was a five-star big deal. Yes. Big deal probably stays at least three. Maybe. I mean, the way the eligibility rules are going could be six.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Yeah, but like, why would you leave and you could get a couple million dollars? Of course. Just for laying in the cut. Right. I mean, although to be fair, the way is looking right now, go to the NBA and come back, shit. Yeah, who knows? You know, nothing makes any sense right now. but think about what it would be if Nas Reid were still in school.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Yes. Right? Like the idea of the good junior that's not necessarily going to be a great NBA player, but we'll be like, it's just going to be deeper. I think is the biggest point to make. Now, how that talent gets distributed, where it goes, that becomes its own discussion. But it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:02:26 There's going to, there has been a bit of a talent shortage for a while. And what happened was, and I think this to a degree may still be the case, but the discrepancy won't be nearly as great. When I was growing up, we could say with confidence that the best players in the world under 22 years old were playing college basketball
Starting point is 00:02:49 with the exception of just like tip-top guys that just kind of sort of had no business being in college. But overall, those were the best players under 22 in the NBA. Then you, I mean, in the world, we're playing in college basketball. Then it got to the point where you're watching the NBA draft and everybody that gets drafted in the first round is 20 or under. Like it never gets there. Now those dudes are staying in school.
Starting point is 00:03:13 And now this is going to be on display. Like there's, there are, and I'm going to get into another part of this for a second. But I know back when I used to really, really, really watch these things closely, the one thing that you could say pretty confidently about who the national, national champion would be is it would be somebody on Kim Palmeroy's rankings, adjusted rankings for offensive and defensive rating, that the teams that were in the top 10 in both, those were the teams that were going to be national championship contenders. Ryan, we got four of those.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Like those are the four number one seeds. They fit that distinction. If you go by Pomoy's rankings, they're the top four. Number five overall, that's Houston. Number five in defensive rate. Iowa State, don't ask me, but they're there.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Yeah, yeah, that's what they're telling me. You know what I'm saying? Like, now, I will tell you this. In my history, when they get there, at first round loss, they lost to a black school one year. I'm trying to remember which one it was. It was Hampton.
Starting point is 00:04:18 It was Hampton. I think they did. Either way it goes. Even the black people are like, I don't know about that. Right. Great story for you. This is back when I was in a school in North Carolina,
Starting point is 00:04:30 and we weren't too far removed from that 8 and 20 season that they had in 2001 and 2002. And you got to understand, man. They had some real PTSD about that season for a long time. They'd never been bad, let alone just being abjectly terrible. And so I was talking to buddy of mine, and I was telling him they lost to Hampton that year.
Starting point is 00:04:52 At home. And he was like, nope, we ain't lose to Hampton. We lost to Davidson. Because he just couldn't imagine. and they lost to Black School. We lost to Davidson, but we ain't lose to Hampton. I had to bring them in close. You lost to both of them.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Oh, man. Yeah. I'm sure they were unhappy. Yeah, like that moment felt a lot like one of my favorite Simpsons moments when Homer went to community college. And he decided he wanted to look apart. And so he had like a bomber jacket with these patches and it looked ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:05:28 And Marr just like, oh, Homer. You're supposed to put leather patches on a tweed jacket, and you put tweed patches on a leather jacket. You've ruined a perfectly good jacket. And then he holds up this jacket with these cutouts in it. And he's like, no, Marge, two perfectly good jackets. That was how it felt in that moment. But anyway, it's a lot going on here.
Starting point is 00:05:54 I am looking forward to watching these games. Because I'm going to be honest with you people. I ain't watched the college basketball game. yet this year. I've seen these clips. Oh, no, that is not true. I watched Carolina beat Duke at the Dean Doe earlier, the first game that they played this year. I did in fact watch that. Brian, you've been watching any college basketball. I don't know how I feel about myself about this because people say it's really been cracking, but I just kind of got out of I've been on a Peterson watch for the show. Well, yes, yes, but that that doesn't necessarily
Starting point is 00:06:25 involve watching any basketball because Derek Peterson was not necessarily playing. Though it has become abundantly clear, remember what he had, we had 40 on here talking about that. And I was like, I'm inclined to believe that he's just been hurt. And apparently he's been really hurt. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, he's, we're, if he can play now, this is going to be an interesting introduction for him.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Because he's not only, it doesn't appear that it is a great team, which opens up the possibility for balling out of control. Correct. You have to. Yes. Right. AJ DeBanza, who I have seen enough of in clips to say, ooh.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Yeah. Yeah. He looks to be rather incredible. Same thing with him. Not a really good team, but that's how you might go off on that Wally Zurbiac, right? Hit you with a couple 40 balls to start the tournament. But there are things going on. This is going to be an interesting tournament.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Now, I mentioned Duke earlier. how I watched them play a game this year and lose. Ryan, did you know they had only lost two games all year? I did know that. They have only lost two games all year long. They are the number one overall seed in the tournament. They have not one boozah, but two boozers that are on this team. And I'm bringing this up because we got to do something about it.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Like all of us. We just can't say bye, bye, buy, buy, bina, bina, and abe by that shit. Like, you're telling me, you're telling me that Duke is the favorite to win the whole tournament. Oh, hell, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's get this together, right? Like, I know this isn't like it used to be. And I know that things have changed a little bit and people don't hate Duke nearly as much because in an ironic twist, they stopped having so many white boys.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Like, it just got so out of control that even white people. had begun to resent them about having all them white boys out there. You know what I mean? The same white people that love McElmore. Like, everyone just like, hey, hey, man, this shit's going too far, right? Like, it was, they was like, hey, any white boys left?
Starting point is 00:08:40 Let's go get them. Like, that was really happening in recruiting where you look up. And they were just like, we got one scholarship left, and there's one white dude in the top 100 that doesn't have a hole. Why don't you come on down right here, right? And it was the white dudes they was getting
Starting point is 00:08:54 where the kind of white people what the white people didn't like. Now, granted, they've been doing that, you know, eat away it goes. All I'm saying is, once they stop going and getting them white dudes, people stop hating them in the same capacity. But Ryan,
Starting point is 00:09:07 when nobody's ever told me was when they stopped getting all those white dudes, where there are also people that stopped loving them in the same capacity that they had prior? I don't think so. I don't know. I mean, they kind of mess with the thing that makes a thing the thing. Right. They kind of, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:24 You're saying they messed with the recipe? a little bit. Yeah, yeah, they kind of, they kind of new Coke did. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? They're like, no, but this is like, you know, it's exactly a new Coke because the thing about New Coke was they made new Coke to taste more like Pepsi. And people was like, we don't want Pepsi.
Starting point is 00:09:39 We want Coke. You understand what I'm saying? And so, when they was out there with all the white dudes and then they was like, nah, nah, nah, but Pepsi is rising up in the rankings. They like, we don't want no Pepsi. We want to drink Coke. Give us this pure
Starting point is 00:09:55 white basketball is what we're looking for. And then Grayson Allen comes back? Oh, he's the last one. They have not had like a truly objectionable, obnoxious, like totally by the brand white boys since then. Think about this, man. They had not just two white dudes last year who wound up being drafted in the lottery. Them two white dudes are the top two candidates for rookie of the year.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Right. In the NBA this year, they had two cold white boys. and they couldn't even really get the like, it just ain't the same. You know what I'm saying? Like, like when Duke got two cold ass white boys and they don't even get hyped that much anymore, they didn't even get hyped.
Starting point is 00:10:36 They didn't even really get that hated, you know? And look, Cooper Flagg, if that don't sound like Duke, Cooper Flagg, his mom's favorite player was Christian Layton. He dreamed of going there. We should have been hating him on a generational basis. And we was just kind of like, hey, I hear he's going to be pretty good, right? We have lost, we, we, he went out of high school early to get to do. Yes, yes, he couldn't wait.
Starting point is 00:10:56 He was so excited. We, I'm just saying at a sum total, all the way across the ball, all of this. We are no longer vigilant. You know what I'm saying? And you got to understand this. If ever you had to be vigilant, you must always be vigilant, right? Case in point, all them x-rays and shit at the airport. They haven't been back to the airport since.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Right? Then, like, you know, they talk, you know that line around. You read a lot of stuff like this. General's always fighting the line. last war. Right. Like, they probably not going to come back to the airport. Probably not. That's me knocking on wood. They probably not go, they probably not going to come back to the airport. But you know what? If you were ever vigilant, you must always be vigilant. And we don't fell off, right? Like, that's, that's, that's how I feel about it. And I think it's also weird because of these
Starting point is 00:11:45 boozers, because for the most part, once the Duke guys leave Duke and go to the NBA with the exception of Grayson Allen. We don't really hate him the same way no more. Like Grayson Allen, Grayson Allen insisted upon bringing his same old tricks and shenanigans with him. Right? Like, like, like, like, like,
Starting point is 00:12:05 he made it impossible for us to, we let JJ move on. Right. And I didn't hate JJ in college, right? But we let JJ move on everywhere. Like is what got me into hating Duke. Yeah, I see the argument. Because that's like the perfect age
Starting point is 00:12:21 Yeah, that's right. You're there. You didn't have the opportunity for the Christian Leightner era. Correct. And the difference between JJ and Christian Leitner is JJ went to a final four, but Christian Leighton went to four of them. I can only imagine. And the thing about Christian Leightner was,
Starting point is 00:12:39 looking back on it, when he made the Dream Team, we were like, that was Shaq's spot on the Dream Team. But he gave Shaq to work when they played. He gave them all the work. Every single one of them, it wasn't just like Duke manufactured it. Christian Leitner gave all of them the work. I've never hated a stranger. And it's not just me.
Starting point is 00:12:57 I can tell you about this. I covered the 2007 NCAA tournament. I mean, not NCAA, the ACC tournament. And they do an ACC legend thing at halftime. You know, it's like a ring of honor sort of thing or whatever. Rodney Rodgers, God, rest of soul. He was there because I remember I talked to him for the story that I wrote about it. And it was at halftime of one of the semifinal games.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And the semifinal games are usually not that well. attended or at least they weren't. They were like Saturday afternoon early. Yeah. And I just remember they started saying, and from Duke, the Christian got one foot on the wood. Boo!
Starting point is 00:13:34 At that time, the ACC had 12 schools. It was 11 schools of boo. Never seen anything like, 15 years later. And Laitner looked at them, looked around, and just went,
Starting point is 00:13:48 and blew a kiss to a ball. It was perfect. It was an amazing moment, right? Incredible. But anyway, we got to get back on this. And see, I understand this. A lot of you people, too young to have been on the Duke Hating Wagon, in some of your cases, too white to be on the Duke Hating Wagon.
Starting point is 00:14:07 And in some of these cases, y'all don't make no sense to me, right? And so, like, the black girls who had crushes on Grand Hill and continue to root for Duke past that. I mean, I get it. I don't approve necessarily, but I see how you wound up getting there. But some of the rest of y'all, and yes, talking specifically about black people,
Starting point is 00:14:31 I don't know what the set of circumstances was that got you to that place where you decided you was going to root for Duke, but it's confusing. Ryan, I don't know you're familiar with my man, Karam Phillips, he is sports writer, and he's from, like, Saginaw or Grand R... He's from some of that.
Starting point is 00:14:49 That, yes. That Michigan. You know what I'm saying? Yes, yes, yes. And he'd be out here writing, writing about the revolution. He'd be giving the white folks to blues, all of that stuff. Man, he'd be out here rooting for Duke. Like he went there.
Starting point is 00:15:02 And I got bad news, Karan. You can't do both. You got to pick a call. It's us or them. What are you talking about? You know what I'm saying? You're calling himself giving the white folks the blues and then used to root for Greg Paulus. That was you.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Yeah, so why he left Duke and went to be your quarterback. Hell yeah. That was what you was a, no, no, no, no. You got a Cherokee Park jersey in the, in the closet. And you'll be out here. No, no, no. It's not allowed. So anyway, we all got to get together.
Starting point is 00:15:36 We all got to be on the same team. One big old team is if you ain't Duke, then the rest of it don't matter. We just all need to be there together. And I'm going to put, I need to put this in some ways because some of y'all might not be prepared to get on the Duke wagon, right? So maybe we need to remind some people of some things. For example, don't forget, Richard Nixon went to Duke. Now, you may be too young to care about the fact that Richard Nixon went to Duke, right? But, and I think it was Duke law school just to be clear, but it's all good. It's all good. We don't even need to bring a Richard
Starting point is 00:16:12 Nixon no more. That one don't even rate. Stephen Miller went to Duke. That's right. right, Stephen Miller went to Duke. Mm-hmm. And if Stephen Miller going to Duke don't do enough for you, just wait a couple days because I'd be watching the news and seeing what's going on in this world, Ryan. And it's only a matter of time before Kyrie snaps.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He'd been good about it for a while. He might have deleted Twitter off his phone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's been holding it together, but I'm just saying it is. If he gets on there and snaps, those of you who don't care about the fact
Starting point is 00:16:50 Stephen Miller went to Duke. Karee went to Duke. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That's right. We need to, let's, let's, let's bring all the forces together, baby. That's what we need to do. I wish Bruce Pearl had gone to Duke.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Shit, that would have been stupendous if we could do that. Who else? Oh, oh, Warriors fans, Warriors fans. I hear you guys aren't really too fond of your general manager right now. You feel like he's contributed to wasting these years of Steph Curry still being productive. That would be Mike Dunleavy Jr. Duke alum. Do you follow Jason Williams on Twitter or any other platform or Instagram or see him on television? He'd be getting on your nerves, don't he?
Starting point is 00:17:35 Don't he's always been nice to me, but on TV? Really nice guy. He'd be getting on my nerves. He went to Duke too. And by the way, for those of you too young to remember, and Ryan, you may be one of them. oh boy prop yeah
Starting point is 00:17:52 that's right yeah Jason Williams so good Jason Williams is so cold like when you start putting together the list of
Starting point is 00:18:02 yeah but he was cold Duke dudes Jason Williams is Jason Williams Grand Hill that's like one two like Jason Williams he has Grand Hills
Starting point is 00:18:10 I and Williamson well he got eight games of Kyrie but anyway fuck that he went there um so we could
Starting point is 00:18:17 we can get in that one. Some of y'all are a little bit, what's the word, fatphobic? Zion. Are you a Knicks fan? It felt like you ain't get enough out of Maple Mamba, R.J. Barrett? All right. It's right there. But they can't do it.
Starting point is 00:18:36 We got our second generation of boozers. Charlie Rose went to Duke, Google, he's not on TV anymore. Ooh, didn't realize he had gone to Duke. Okay, there's another one. Y'all be out here complaining about everything. that has to do with the NBA, everything under the sun about the NBA. Adam Silver, Duke alum.
Starting point is 00:18:56 That's right. We got to get, we got to get it there. Because, Ryan, they appear to be cold. They appear to be cold, cold, cold, very good. The, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, that's better boozer, right? Um, I have seen enough to be like, oh, he seems to be a very good, uh, basketball player. So how do we, who gonna get them filed out?
Starting point is 00:19:20 Somebody, somebody gotta get that done. Like, I got, I don't, I don't, I don't, it's been 11 years since Duke won a national championship. Can't have it in my life, bro. Can't do it. Can't do it. Can't do it. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:19:34 So that's all, that's my thing. I'm looking forward to filling out of bracket because I feel like I will perform better than I ever have without having watched the game because watching games never did much for my actual ballot. I think I'm in better shape on what I'm going to get there. How come Rick Patino couldn't have gone to Duke? Too bad he's, I mean, I'm glad he's not they coach, though, because then they would be unbeautiful.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I can't believe he's still doing this at this age. I was like at his just getting St. John's back to its old glory. It really is. I would make point number one. I'd be worried about what he would do with his free time. It's a fair counter. And point number two. And I guess this is somewhat similar to LeBron and why he still plays,
Starting point is 00:20:20 though LeBron doesn't still fit in this category in this way. I can't imagine being as good at anything as Rick Petito is at coaching basketball. Yeah, I know. It's, like, for the bridges he's burned and the places he's been, people just can't quit him. He's just too good to turn it down. Like, I'm thinking in terms of it's a strictly coaching basketball. basketball in college because Petino's pro thing.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I mean, they won the Atlanta division once when he coached the Knicks for what it's worth. But let's just keep this to college basketball. I'm not sure who's in the same zone as him. Like Larry Brown at his best. Like Larry Brown is like the top to bottom. Like what Rashid Wallace is called a pound for pound. Like he's that guy.
Starting point is 00:21:07 But anyway, let's get back to this hate and do. Let's all do it. Let's all make it. None of us need to get distracted from keeping the main thing. No, no. The main thing. got to stay the main thing, and we'd have made the main thing fall off.
Starting point is 00:21:20 If we had truly hated Duke the way we could, they team could never look the way it would. We as a people. Not you or yours, Ron, talking about me and mine. We should have been boycotted that shit a long time ago. I came, like, how? How'd you, like, how did that happen? I remember the time somebody tried to come in our house
Starting point is 00:21:37 rooting for Duke and almost got kicked out. I can't imagine being like, yeah, you can go. I ain't signing that shit. No circumstance. What I let that happen? So anyway, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, Houston, everybody out there, we're rooting for you, baby, because I'm scared. All right, Ryan, this weekend I had to do some traveling for work, so I didn't, different kind of work. I'll tell you guys about it shortly.
Starting point is 00:22:11 But you hit me on Sunday, it was like, did you see what happened last night? And I'm like, what do you mean? Did I see what happened last night? And so, Luca hit a game winner and had a clutch defensive play. Yeah. Wakers doing us a favor programming the show. Let me tell you what the Lakers are doing
Starting point is 00:22:28 because the Lakers have played themselves up to a third in the West right now. Right. All right. So that is Thunder Spurs, which that's one two. One two probably in the NBA. Yeah, but before the playoff,
Starting point is 00:22:40 the thunder's going to be one. The Spurs are going to be two. The Lakers, rockets, nuggets, Timberwolves in a bit of a cluster. Okay. But I think,
Starting point is 00:22:52 in all likelihood, those are the six teams that are not going to have to go into the play-in. It is debatable. I don't know how much it matters where those teams fall in three-six, given that they're not going to play the Thunder or the Spurs in the first round. I think, and I'm curious if you agree with me, that they all want to play against the Lakers. All the other three teams? Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Yes. Everybody wants to play against the lake. because the Lakers got three dudes that you can hunt. Right. On defense. And no one wants to play, no one wants to play Joker. No. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:33 I mean, look here. I don't think anyone wants to play Joker. I don't think anybody really wants to see Minnesota. Right. If we're being honest, like for this level of basketball, they are tested. The Rockets, I think, because they have the glaring point guard hole. And the fact that Shingoon is an awful defensive. defensive player. Yeah, he's really regressed.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Can you imagine what Joker would think about the idea of square it up with Shingoon? Every game? Yeah. Yeah. Give me, brother, I have 47. Like, that's, that's, that's the kind of performance that you're going to get there. But a good Lakers team with just enough to keep it interesting? Ooh. Right? Because, hey, look at Dodd. is a playoff performer. And it appears, I saw pictures implying this, and you let me know if I'm wrong here,
Starting point is 00:24:28 it appears that he has replayed his way into shape. Yes. So he's replayed his way into shape. LeBron is healthy now. I mean, the tricky thing with figuring out the Lakers is, one, how healthy will he be when the games are every other night? Right. And number two, are they better off when he doesn't play with the other guys?
Starting point is 00:24:51 Or it's just weird, this weird thing where it's like, the less he's featured on offense, the better than they are. Yes. Or, you know, JJ implied that they had one of them conversations. And he let him know that he was going to have to step it back. And apparently that has happened to positive results. I just don't think they're going to be able to play good enough defense at the point in which it matters. But, man, they give us a good first round seven game series or something just to get the blood pumping, just to get a nice big win on game. one, the national TV. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Because look, it's really starting to feel like something now. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that we're a month away from the playoffs starting. Right. I believe the first game of the playoffs is April 18th. I think that's exactly right. Yeah. Like, we're, you know how I know.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Yeah. But we're getting there. All these Sunday and Saturday games, they're feeling like something, right? Like Minnesota and Oklahoma City played on Sunday, and it wound up being a big Oklahoma City win, but Minnesota was up for most of the first two and a half quarters of that game. Like, it's at the point where you're seeing these matchups that are coming up, and it's like, yo, I got to get my eyes on this one.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Kat's out here. We talked about this before. Anybody that thinks the ideas that in the regular season, nobody plays hard, this simply isn't true. They're going, going, going, going right now. now, but in the West, they're really playing for something in that shuffle. I feel like in the East, what the seeds are now are kind of sort of what the seeds are, right? Maybe Miami plays their way into six and Minnesota goes down, but Detroit's going to be one,
Starting point is 00:26:36 Boston is going to be two, New York is going to be three, Cleveland's going to be four, Orlando's going to be five. I think we know that. I don't think we're going to really start caring about what's going on over there until the second round, at which point it does get very interesting. You know, what happens in that round? If we get another Boston, New York conference semi with Jason Tatum who, don't ask me how.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Yeah, it seems to be working so far. Yeah, yeah. Like, I was actually thinking about him in the context that we were talking about with Duke, because I know Duke's got some players that are hurt. Those of us who are old enough to remember this, they be having miracle cures over there. Duke be having cats come back. And you'd be like, wait a minute, I thought you said he had a comment. compound fracture of his femur.
Starting point is 00:27:21 That was two weeks ago. Them cats be coming back. I don't know what they, S&C, they train the situation, whatever it is. Them cats be coming back. Duke, Duke alum, but, you know, that's a figure of speech. Jason Tatum, back, back like he never left. Back, like, I do not know.
Starting point is 00:27:40 But if we get Luca out here playing, like, high-level Luca playoff ball, I don't care if the Lakers win, just make it fun. Yes. Right? It doesn't matter who wins and loses early like that. You know, who's supposed to win, it's going to matter at the end.
Starting point is 00:27:56 But just give us some excitement. Yes. Give us some fun. And I feel like we're going to have plenty of that. By the way, before I forget, and I see that people on the internet talk about this, but I think this matters. How in the world did Daryl Morey just give Jerry McCain away? It's insane.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Just gave him away to the thunder. And it's interesting because I am told that the guys in Philadelphia really liked him. Like he was a, you know, but goodness, that zoomerous, zoomer, whoever zoomed, he needed to be on the thunder. Yeah. Right. Like, he's down there and nobody even thinks, nobody even thinks this shit is weird. It's really remarkable.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Right, but he can play for my team, man. Yeah. Like, I cannot believe that they, I don't care what the luxury attack was hitting on any of that. I cannot believe they let that. do. He looked like he was going to be rookie at a year last year. Yeah. Until he got hurt. And Oklahoma City gets to have him.
Starting point is 00:28:54 For free. Somebody sent me a text, a friend of the program, after his team played Oklahoma City. And he was like, somebody's got to take these dwebes out. They are the least cool. It's a great NBA team. It really is amazing because if Shay wins another title and wins another MVP and another title, another final MVP, we're all going to have to have to have. have some serious conversations about how great he is.
Starting point is 00:29:21 He's there. That none of us are going to like. But I mean, he has all, he has all the things. Correct. Right. Like if there were another MVP, another finals MVP, absurd advance numbers, winning titles with,
Starting point is 00:29:37 I mean, it's a new era and they're a very good team. But I don't think any of us thought Jalen Williams was the second best player on a title team. Right. I don't think until that happened, either of us looked at him in that way. No, the conversations have the same thing it was with Yolkich,
Starting point is 00:29:52 where it was like, hey, man, the, what, what? At some point it's undeniable. Yeah, yeah, it is. And boy, let me tell you, if we get Oklahoma City Denver in the second round, which is what it looks like it might be, because they don't play the same position, we won't really look at it the right way, but that's a, that's a heavyweight title fight.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Yeah, it's not loser leave town, right? Yeah. But those are still the two best players. to me in the NBA, right? And then the winner of that will get to go play the future in the conference finals. That's what they, you know, everybody called him the alien and everything else. No, man, that's, he's the future. Like, like, he's like flying cars were when we watch the Jetsons.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Like, oh, that's, that's what the future is going to be like, except the future has population one. Yes. It has just, no one like him. Just one, dude. I told you. The fact, Harrison Barnes is like, how do you look at pick up games like Wilt?
Starting point is 00:30:51 He's 33 years old, and the only point of comparison that he has is Wilt. Shabberlid. Oh, bad. We got a lot of fun. And by the way, we also might get Kauai Leonard who's been bawling his ass off.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Ballin. Can be a bummer? I'll believe it when I see it. I don't blame you. I don't blame you. I want to, like, game three, reports that this is fake me,
Starting point is 00:31:21 reading Shams, this fake tweet from a month from now. Reports are Quai Liner will miss this game with a mysterious lower leg injury, you know, like. That's fair, but what if I... It would be fun, but he's playing out of his mind. Allow me to tell you what's on the board.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Best of Seven Series. Kauai Leonard returns to San Antonio. I don't think about that. And they'll lose this. I don't think they can beat the spurs. But he will go for 35 a night. Yes. And I can't believe how good he's been.
Starting point is 00:31:59 I, at his age. Yeah, Siki, what is he, 34? This is year 15. I think he's 35. This is year 15 with all those injuries that he has suffered. Like I talk about going to those 2019 finals games. I went to a couple games in person. And I don't know why the camera's never picked it up.
Starting point is 00:32:17 He was dragging one of those legs. that whole series. That was seven years ago. And like two catastrophic injuries have transpired since then. And since Pablo got out here in his business, he been out here hooping. Even though they traded away. Like what if they still had James Hardin? If they still had James Hardin and they played against the Spurs,
Starting point is 00:32:39 you'd have to give them a chance of winning, right? Again, it's James Hardin and Kauai. It's just so tough. I just said a chance. I just said a chance. A chance, yes. A chance. But yeah, no, no, no.

Now, if you haven't heard, if you haven't heard, Bo, a couple stories. to Bruce Pearl on CBS's coverage,
Starting point is 00:36:53 was advocating for his son's Auburn team to be in the tournament. He had a quote, Auburn beat three champions this year. They beat Florida, they beat St. John's, and they beat Arkansas. They played the toughest schedule in the country. Don't know if they were rewarded for it. But what was your reaction to this?
Starting point is 00:37:08 First of all, shout out to you, John Kaltapari, because you were down bad. I mean bad. And you had to take this demotion of a job where you got to wear a funny-looking coat. But the coat didn't even really funny-looking. It's a nice, it's a coat, but it's the kind of coat that the coach at Arkansas wears.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Yes, that's someone who lives, it's the nicest coat someone has in a little rock. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it's not to the Whimp-Sanderson level of coat, but it is the coat that, like, it's the coat the coach of Arkansas wears because they play in a big game. He would have never worn that coat
Starting point is 00:37:40 when he was coached Kentucky. But you won the SEC, you got a great player in the A-Cuff kid. Good for you. As for Bruce Pearl, yes, his son, who he should not have given the job to in the first place is the head coach at Auburn,
Starting point is 00:38:00 and he wants to give Auburn credit because they have beaten, they have won games against the three champions, and I believe, as I'm not mistaken, that he was directly, it's Miami of Ohio that he was going for. The undefeated team is the one that he was going for. Ryan, do you know what Auburn's record is?
Starting point is 00:38:22 I'm going to guess 18 and 15. They are for this year, 17 and 16, 2 and 8 on the road. And Bruce Pearl is sitting on television trying to put them into the tournament. Did you see them cussing at people during the SEC tournament? I sure did. Where was security? You know how much I would love to see security hauled Bruce Pearl out of the building? They never would.
Starting point is 00:38:58 They never would, but we should talk about something else because all I want to do is say things about him that I shouldn't say about a man that I don't know personally. All right, speaking of people whose politics we don't agree with, Kanye West. I was past that, by the way, it ain't just that about him. It goes back well before I even knew what his politics were. All right.
Starting point is 00:39:15 It goes back 40 years. I fucking hate that guy. Speaking of well-documented assholes, Kanye West is set to perform at SoFi Stadium, April 1st and 3rd. And? Yeah, two shows. So we think that he can sell 70,000 tickets twice.
Starting point is 00:39:37 Excuse me. He, not only does he think that, there is some promotional operation that thinks that he can do that. I mean, it's a Nazi rally, right? Like, who else is going? his shit don't even slap and don't he be doing like the Nazi
Starting point is 00:40:02 who's insuring this I just I had to I had to re-google because I saw the April 1st date and when you know thought about that holiday yeah but there's but there's two of them
Starting point is 00:40:17 there's two dates so that you know so as I recall a part of the problem that Kanye had been having was you know the way the the ticket game is so controlled, it didn't seem like anybody was willing to book him.
Starting point is 00:40:34 But somebody thinks they can get him to buy. I can't. I'm going to be really disheartened if he could sell that many tickets at this point. Yeah. It's, uh, do these people not have Google? Or, or is that the problem that they do? Like, can you, like, what is that parking lot going to look like? What is that crowd going to look like?
Starting point is 00:40:57 and I feel very confident saying a bunch of white dudes, some of them with like chains hanging from their belts. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, it's whatever is going on at so far when kind is there. I have not. Couldn't be me. Not interesting in any part of that. All right, with the war and Iran going on,
Starting point is 00:41:20 you've seen a lot of things from the U.S. government, almost treating this like a video game, tweeting out AI generated, quips, uh, celebrating their strikes via, you know, through the presidents and many other politicians, social channels, Bo this caught your eye. What are your thoughts? I would feel a little better about this whole situation. If them boys and Iran didn't seem so completely unafraid. Ryan, everything I see them say goes beyond tough talk into that place where you'd be like, hey man, lead them alone, don't.
Starting point is 00:42:00 like, like, they don't, this, this, they're not, they're not worried in the least about what, it feels like they're trying to dare the U.S. into, like, it's, it feels like, it's, it feels like, it's like, they got eight men up on the line or they, throw it, throw it, you say, you got it like that, throw it. Or they put, like putting five men in the box, like, hey, it's right there, you can just run it. And little do you know they got a plan for that. Like, this is not, all right, this is going to take a while. And it always looks like it's going to go fast and it takes a lot longer than
Starting point is 00:42:42 than people anticipated. But it's entirely possible that this is going to go long enough to lead us into like international economic ruin. Yes. That's the big one. Would none of the ships being able to go through the straight-a-oormoose? I think that's how you say it.
Starting point is 00:42:57 However you say it, that's not the part that matters. You see what Trump said, that the guys driving the oil tankers just need to get some guts and drive their tanks through. Hey, just stick it through that hole, see what happens. Yeah, guts ain't bulletproof home boy. No. Right, like, like they are not. No, that's not.
Starting point is 00:43:14 And by the way, he wasn't talking about soldiers. Right. And you can tell the soldiers they need to tough it up. These people just work for the oil company. Yeah, that's, that's, you know, they don't get paid that much. No, no, no, they're not going to do this. This is not, it's interesting. The news from the West looks different than the news from the,
Starting point is 00:43:32 the East of the news. The dudes that is not from like the United States gives the impression that this is not. It's like the U.S., they run it against some boys that's out here running an option that you've never seen. Like, you remember what it was like like the first time you saw Rich Rodriguez in West Virginia? We're like, yo, that's the option, but that's a whole new spin on that. I remember the Daring McFadden days at, uh, at Arkansas. Yeah. I, yeah, I didn't realize they could do that. I didn't realize that was, like to your point, I didn't realize that was an option. And you're like, that's what's going on here. And this is what we've got.
Starting point is 00:44:05 And these gas prices are about to go through the roof. There's a World Cup that's about to happen here. That sounds a little anxiety-inducing. Yeah. It's not what I thought life was going to be like in my 40s, Ryan. It's not. All right, Bo. A couple voicemails.
Starting point is 00:44:34 A lot of good ones. Here's our first. Hey, Bo. This is Curtis from. Dallas, Texas, love your show, love everything that you're doing. I'm thinking about the hip hop segment that you've been doing, and I'm thinking about in 96, when we think about the features of R&B artists with some of these hip hop tunes, kind of want to get your take on it, and what are you thinking of what are some of the best in 96 that were able to get with R&B artists?
Starting point is 00:45:03 Thank you. I just have to say that every single person involved has an amazing, level of faith in my ability to pull information off the top of my head is your favorite R&B feature specifically from the year. I did that too. Yes. I know, no, no. I was also talking about you. Yes. Don't you worry, buddy. You were also involved in this. And I feel a little bit lucky because I just looked it up. And while it does not exactly fall in this at the 23rd. annual American Music Awards on January 29th, 1996, Mariah Carey before a fantasy, and I believe with the ODB remix,
Starting point is 00:45:49 because that's the OG of them, is that one, which is to say, let's just give that as the answer and let both slide. See, I knew you'd get there. Thank you so much. I appreciate your faith in me
Starting point is 00:46:03 is a great way to spend that. All right. Here's our next one that you'll enjoy a lot more. Yes. Hey, Bledi. This is Adrian. I'm a longtime listener. And I just had a question. You and I are around the same age. I grew up in Tennessee. I'm a black man who reveres Dr. King like yourself. But I've always wondered when you're making fun of Morehouse how easy that was. Because when I first heard you do it, I was shocked because I'm like, whoa, we don't talk about Dr. King's
Starting point is 00:46:39 alum like that. And then I realized, oh, you know, you're from Atlanta. You went to Clark and Atlanta University. So what's that just natural? Is that natural for someone from Atlanta or who goes to, you know, Clark Atlanta to just, hey, we're going to bang on that. We can bang on Moorehouse. Sorry, guys.
Starting point is 00:47:01 And it's, or was there any kind of hesitation? Like, you know, outside looking in, I've always wondered about that. It's like you clearly revere the man. as we all do, but those more house jokes always hidden are hilarious, but I just didn't know if that came natural or if there was any kind of, ever any kind of hesitation. I love the show. Let me read something for you right fast. Ryan, I don't even know if I sent, I don't think I sent this to you. The other day, I went into the stranger box on my Instagram. I rarely do that. So rarely, like one of the boxes I ain't even know was there. It was like the hidden request box.
Starting point is 00:47:38 and I rolled back, I went back a long way because I was just seeing what was in there. And I see this. I don't know why. I read it, but I did. Love your show, but your intentional mispronunciation of wrestling, while funny in the early, early days, now feels played, and I think you do it because it annoys.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Having dated someone from CAU, this explains a great deal about both of you. I guess I'll be the bigger person and just skip the episodes where this happens. and hope for better in a couple of days. I knew the second I clicked on this motherfucker's account and looked at his pictures that it would be a goddamn Moorhouse hoodie in here somewhere.
Starting point is 00:48:21 And you know what? It's there. It's there. And so I replied to him and told him what he needed to hear, which was, what a dork. What a dork. I just couldn't believe this, You are a grown man watching wrestling, and you're going to try to be hoity-to-y with me?
Starting point is 00:48:48 How could you possibly do that? You watch wrestling as a grown man. You see the right to be snooty at that point. If you're going to be snooty and wrestling, you have to be the snooty rassler. You got to be Lord Stephen Regal. You know what I'm saying? Like, you got to actually be the character to be that. I bring that up in response to what that man said to say, does it come naturally?
Starting point is 00:49:14 Do you, do you see how they be acting? Because let me tell you something, I never met Dr. King, okay? But I met all these other dudes that went to Morehouse. And let me tell you something. Not one of them has ever reminded me of Martin Luther King in any way whatsoever. So is it hard for me to joke on Morehouse because Martin Luther King went there, brother, if Martin Luther King was here, I'd have to joke on him because it doesn't make any sense that he went there deep down. He's talking about.
Starting point is 00:49:45 I was actually thinking about this, right? Because I think about King, and this is bigger than King, right? This is broader, but even still. King got shot on the balcony of a motel where he was staying in Memphis. And the biggest contrast between those days and now is that a man in the position of Mark of the king had been in, a man who had won a Nobel Prize, right, was staying in a motel. Like, whatever version of that is now is probably right in first class, it's probably staying at
Starting point is 00:50:19 a super fancy hotel and all of that, right? Like, that's the, the dopeness of King is in part. Now there's a lot of factors there, obviously, but still, when they won the Nobel Prize, he gave all the money to the movement. Like, that's what kind of man he was, okay? You telling me, how many, how many, the more house cats, you know what I'd be trying to stay in no motel. And I say that confidently because I wouldn't be trying to stay at that motel
Starting point is 00:50:41 myself, right? I'm just saying what he got to do with him. All right. Here's our next one. Hey, Bo. This is Ed calling to you from San Antonio. I used to live in Memphis many, many years ago. At the time, I was doing like TV
Starting point is 00:51:03 and Saul's back when a flat panel TV is like $8,000. So anyway, this is early 2000s and Jason White Chocolate Williams is on Grizzly, and I get, Grizzlies and I get hired to head over to his house to install some TVs. I've never met Jason, but Jason's wife was there, and she was really, really nice and, like,
Starting point is 00:51:24 really, really cool. She was really helpful and a nice person, so she was helping me around there. But she is a white lady whose name is Danika, D-E-N-I-K-A-D-N-I-A-D-N-E-N-E-N-E-A. There's something sort of beautiful about white chocolate marrying a white woman whose first name is Danica. Shout out. I was about to say, on brand,
Starting point is 00:51:48 number one, number two, and that is West Virginia different, man. That's what I was saying. I feel very confident that they've been together for a long time.
Starting point is 00:51:58 Since 11th grade, DeNick, wow, yeah. I'd watch Jason Williams documentary. For sure. Like,
Starting point is 00:52:06 we could go back with him to West Virginia and like catch up with some of the homies, the non-randy-maws homies. I'd watch. All right. Here's our last one.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Bo, this is Devin, calling from Florida. Had to get in on the naming trend. Had an appointment with a client on Friday via Zoom. Never met the client. I traded some voicemails. Just knew that when I met with Letitia, I was meeting with one of my own. Bo, when she answered the lie, my face must have said it all because this was 100% the whitest Letitia I had ever seen in my entire life.
Starting point is 00:52:55 I'm talking dress barred white. This lady must have seen my face because the first word out of her mouth worked. Not what you expected, huh? So after I picked up my face, put it back on, had a great conversation. She was cool. We got everything done. but yeah, was not expecting
Starting point is 00:53:16 to have that happen to me after all of the times I've heard it talked about on the show. That's all. Keep doing what you're doing. Love it. Ryan,
Starting point is 00:53:26 love having you on the program. Talk to y'all later. You know, the irony of it, Ryan, is in hearing him, I thought that that was like a dusty roads tight white man. I did not, I did what he said,
Starting point is 00:53:35 I thought it was what about, oh, and I was like, oh, so you're not one of, oh, okay, cool, let's go. We are scrambling all the brain. wires. For sure. It is very funny the difference in those calls between the two Americas.
Starting point is 00:53:50 It is. Like, because one America calls and all's like, oh, look at this. And then there's always like a element of confusion from the other one. Like, I don't understand how we got here. And I love that we have a place that we could all come together and discuss these things. Because what I'm learning in this is y'all have been waiting for the place to feel comfortable to come out here and have these discussions. Somebody to tell you it was okay. Yeah. It's, my job to give everyone equal time. There we go. It's a great job. It's a great job. It's appreciate. Ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining us here on the right time. We do this four days a week. Monday through Thursday now. Ryan Brumley handles everything behind the scenes. Thank you, sir.
