Thanks for listening where you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, give us five stars.
Starting point is 00:01:16 You only give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. We got Deiotee Lee or der Ranger coming up talking about some football. But first, all right, Ryan, I feel like, and hey, if I'm not giving you enough credit, you let me know. But I don't feel like you have passionate opinions about. baby face. You know what this is?
Starting point is 00:01:40 Yeah, you're breaking the triangle. No, this is, when Kobe goes like this. It's ISO. Yeah, it's what I'm saying. Yeah, breaking the triangle. You're breaking the triangle. We're breaking the triangle. We're getting out of here.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Okay, cool. Just wanted to let you know it's okay, all right? But I do want you to kind of stay on a little bit as I give you a story because it ties in to somewhat of a recurring theme of. Okay. So the other day, I got some email from this show on Complex. And it's called worst takes. And they're like, come on and give your worst takes.
Starting point is 00:02:12 And I'm like, you know, I kind of spent a long time not doing a lot of these appearances, perhaps to my detriment in some ways. So let me try to get out here, do a little bit more, right? And so I said, okay, cool. But I mean, I don't think it's hard for you to understand what the problem is that I would have with this, which is I don't think any of my takes are bad. I mean, that's kind of the whole idea is like I think my opinions are. good and I give them to you because that's how good they are.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Right. Why would I give you, why would I give you rotten stuff? I don't understand this. Like, I don't know who these people are. I don't go to the grocery store. Here's some bad apples. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, like, I'm trying to think about like stuff I thought in the past that like, you know, wasn't that big a thing or whatever, but okay, I was wrong about Michael Beasley over Derek Rose, for example. Right, you know, like I was, but I didn't, I didn't feel like that would have anything. So, like, I sit down and I talk to the brother that's doing the show. And I don't remember why.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I remember why. It's because we had just, I think we had just taped the ATLians episode and my man Wally had brought up how I don't rock with baby face. And so I'm trying to do my best to give my man a good show, right? Like I'm trying to do what I can to help them. And then I'm like, oh yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I got this baby face take that, like, people don't like, okay? But the thing is, I've been offering this take in public for like 15, 20 years. This is nothing new. Okay. So I used to say it on the internet all the time, but that was the old internet. Okay? That was the internet where you saw what I said if you followed me or perhaps somebody decided to share it and we could have a robust back and forth, but what's the big deal anyway, right? I hadn't thought about like what would happen if I said it on the new internet. I was like, oh, I say this all the time. What's the thing, right? And so I said it also. not considering,
Starting point is 00:04:10 Ryan, who are my least favorite people in the world? People who are passive-aggressive. Yes, that is correct. But as a profession. Oh, social media managers. Yes, yes. Somehow I hadn't done the math on the fact that this part
Starting point is 00:04:28 was going to hit socials. Okay? And look, they're doing everything I always said. Now, of course, the difference is the point of this show is this sort of rage, So I can't blame them, right? Like, this is literally what they were supposed to do.
Starting point is 00:04:44 I just didn't really do the math on it. Next thing I know, I'm getting text messages about the fact text messages, all right, that this has happened. Somebody told me that what a boy to man was in my comments going off. Yeah, that was like the first thing I heard. It was like, tell me, tell me you don't really believe this. I'm like, hell yeah, I believe this. And what they were asking is, do I believe that baby face? Well, I say it.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I believe that baby face is a wildly overrated song, right? That is my belief. I believe that this is one of those things, kind of like Jason Whitten is a Hall of Famer, that if people keep saying it over and over and over again, it just becomes an axiom of truth that doesn't like really get scrutinized by anybody in any way. And I just happen to disagree with this.
Starting point is 00:05:38 and in fact fairly fervently. Brian, now this is where, you know, you can start Homer Simpsoning into the bushes because my people really came down on me very harshly. Even people I know. Ninth Wonder said that my tape was a reflection that, quote, drugs are rampart, unquote. R-A-M-P-A-R-T.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Yes, them drugs be in my house gallantly streaming. Now, you understand he ruled for Duke. So like we only we only listen for so much to what's going on over there. I wound up in a trick bag in this because the boy Kev on stage made a video refuting what I said. And I can't get in no back and forth with the nicest man in the world. One of them church ladies go come up and tell me, your mama is a Jezebel or something like that, right? Like, like, I don't need that. Some dude popped up in my, because the weirdos are popping up on Instagram in my, in my stranger,
Starting point is 00:06:37 Instagram inbox. And let me find what this dude said to me. I want to make sure I get this word right. Here we go. Hey, ho-ass possum face inward. Baby face will never be weird. We never be overrated. Sorry, weird reminded me of this other woman who was also in my stranger box who sent me a message that said, quote, you're a weirdo with the middle finger. I'm a weirdo. A total stranger. shit in the name of Babyface, but hold up, screw, I'm the weirdo. Some dude told me that this was a quote, Whitlock-esque take. And I was like, actually, let me tell you something I am very certain of about Whitlock. Whitlock loves babyface. Whitlock is an R&B slow jam dude from Indianapolis, where you can find the Kenny Babyface Edmunds freeway. Is that a real thing? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:07:36 It's incredible. Anyway, that dude had to apologize. Because he was with Lockett in this analogy. Okay. Never mind. Never mind the whole like everybody gets to have an opinion sort of thing, right? Of course. Forget that part.
Starting point is 00:07:57 I'm going to just say this because I hadn't planned to shake the table. So I didn't really get to discuss this, right? And I have, and I want to be very clear. I know people will not believe me. I told you about the people in my stranger inbox. Otherwise, I promise you. I have not read a single comment other than Night Wonder saying the drugs are rampart. And the only reason that I read that is because somebody sent it to me.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Right. I honestly, I don't even know what Boy the Man said about my take. I truly have no idea, okay? This is all I'm saying. people talk about babyface as a songwriter on the upper echelon of all-time songwriters. Okay?
Starting point is 00:08:47 Now, for the white people who are eavesdropping right now, they talk about him like he's on a Lenin McCartney songwriting kind of level. I understand that reference. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right? Like, they talk about him, and I'm really kind of staying within a pop vein, right? So not even going to like a Bob Dylan hyper-literary type of thing, right?
Starting point is 00:09:04 But Babyface has written a bunch of hits. I think a lot of those hits are terrible songs. Okay? That is my read. So I'm going to give it to you in a couple of different ways to think about it. If we're going to put him in this upper echelon, then we're talking about him with guys like Stevie Wonder. We're talking about him with guys like Prince, guys like Curtis Mayfield,
Starting point is 00:09:28 Smokey Robinson, Holland Doja Holland, so on, right? Like, if we're saying that he's one of the greatest songwriters of all time, we're putting him up there on that level, and that's the part that I push back against, okay? So let's say we just dropping super dope songs that people have written, okay? And it's like, they go and then baby face goes, okay? We will spend the coming month celebrating songs in the key of life, by the way, episode with Spencer on that coming up, okay?
Starting point is 00:09:57 We're going to, you know, that's about to happen. Songs in the key of life has as. Okay. Stevie drops as. Your turn, baby face. What you got? Like, if you're the super baby face fan, what are you coming with next?
Starting point is 00:10:16 This morning, I just listened to Little Red Corvette. Okay? Your turn, baby face. What do you have that's on the level of that? What bar do you have that's on the level of body like that on a being jeans versus on the verge of being a thing? obscene. What you got for that? Babyface once wrote a song called I'll make love to you that was high school dance music. And I know that because I was in high school. Play that shit for a girl and
Starting point is 00:10:43 she'll pat you on the back. All right? Curtis Mayfield has people get ready. Curtis Mayfield has Pusher Man. Your goal, baby face. But you putting Tendorone up against that stuff? Is that what we're doing? Are you really? No. It's just that caliber of guy. Hell. Let go even Michael Jackson. And I'm not talking about the record. I'm talking about the songs lyrically, right? Drop Billy Jean in there. Your turn, baby face?
Starting point is 00:11:13 No, no, no. Like, imagine for a second. Just imagine this, okay? Imagine that your woman, like, anniversaries coming up or whatever, okay? And you want to write her a poem. She ain't, you ain't got that, right? Like, that's just not your bag. and your scruples aren't that high.
Starting point is 00:11:35 So you want to get somebody to write a poem for you that you can pass off as your own. You know, think about like high school or something somebody would do in high school, right? And so you're like, hey, man, I need you to write this poem, man. I give you $100. Can you write something for me?
Starting point is 00:11:51 Cool. And they'd be like, cool, give me a couple days. I'll come back. And then in a couple days, they come back. And it's like, I got to poll. I was like, oh, shit, man. How'd it go? You mean the world to me.
Starting point is 00:12:04 You are my everything. I swear the only thing that matters matters to me. What the fuck does that mean, Kobe Bryant? Only thing that matters, matters. Hey, man, look, I ain't going to lie to you, man. I paid you $100 for this. I'm going to need a little bit more. Can you go back and put a little bit more on that?
Starting point is 00:12:27 Say less. Come back to the next day. All right. I've got something else on it. Well, go ahead. Let me hear it. All right, now you heard the first part. You mean the world to me.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You are my everything. I swear the only thing that matters matters to me. But hold up, hold up. This is what you paid for. Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. Because you mean so much to me. You telling me you wouldn't want to get your fucking money back? This is what I be talking about, right?
Starting point is 00:13:11 Now, the song sounds excellent. Verses actually a bit better than that chorus I gave you. I'm just saying, you're not going to tell somebody that that's one of the greatest song writers that ever lived. That's not how that goes. Like, the Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis stuff that they write, I find it be more interested in the LA Ree Baby Face stuff. A lot of that stuff they jams.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Like that Bobby Brown stuff he does, they jams because Bobby Brown is making it jam. You know what the best written song on that album is? My prerogative, written by Teddy Riley. That shit was written well enough that Britney Spears could dare try to make it work, right? My, my, my, my by Johnny Gill again. Imagine I paid you some money.
Starting point is 00:13:51 You came back with my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, that's all you got. Johnny Gill is carrying that to the finish line. It is not a byproduct, a great song write. Now, what I realized about me, I was talking to a friend of mine, and she and I were going back and forth about this, and because she couldn't believe I said this,
Starting point is 00:14:10 and she said it dawned on her where I was coming from. is it, for me, at least. Then babyface songs is boring. Ladies are. Like, and when I say that, this is what I mean. I don't find that when he does songs that they come from a place of any like imagination. Like I mentioned a little red corvette, you can go through line by line.
Starting point is 00:14:34 I understand this woman's get down. I know where she stays. I know the emotions of this other dude. This whole story comes together with clear ethos and mentality and everything else within in two verses, an entire, this crazy scene has been laid out with these really interesting people in them, right? I don't get that when I hear Babyface, right? Like, talked about As, by Stevie, like, the crazy use of metaphor and simile and all these things he puts together and everything else is he builds up to this hyperbolic thing. I'm not getting that from Babyface.
Starting point is 00:15:07 I'm not getting no song like no Smokey Robinson song. There's no tracks of my tears out of that catalog out of there. It's not happening because I find that the music is absent of like a certain imagination and just a certain feeling of like kind of fun and even like mischip to a degree that I think is important. Like let's be real about this. The boy kept on stage, I didn't see the video, but they told me that it started off. We ended the road and that's exactly my point. Like I can't imagine throwing it into the road back out here and think that's a reputation of my point.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Like the beat is cool or whatever it is, but maybe. That's not a, for me, that's not like an exciting record. That don't have the vibes that I'm looking for coming off of that. And the truth is, if Babyface's songs was really that good, I don't know if Kev would have been allowed to listen to them back in the day. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'll make love to you is a sex song for church. And not like one of them songs where it could be about Jesus,
Starting point is 00:16:03 but you know, did you just switch out baby? No, no, no. I mean, you could listen to that in church and nobody would feel any sort of conflict and that doesn't seem possible to me, except it just ain't like, I don't find it to be fun music. I'll make another point. I think it's interesting about a lot of these rapy rap fans, which is their expectations and demands of R&B singers are way lower than their demands of people when they write raps. Like if somebody was writing raps with the kind of simplicity and triteness of a lot of these babyface records, I assure you, Ninth Wonder would not be telling me that drugs
Starting point is 00:16:41 a rampart. As somebody who's talked to that man about rap before, you feel me? Like, I promise you. I promise you, it would not go that way. But I also need to be fair, because I just said that thing about baby face and, like, not having no imagination to his music. And while I think that is overall true, it's not always true. Because, let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:17:08 ain't nobody, you got to have a serious imagination to come up with this song. And you know what song I'm talking about, fellas. That's right. Soon as I get home from work. This man say he's going to buy clothes, cook dinner, paid a rent soon as he gets home for work. Where do you work?
Starting point is 00:17:33 Clearly you don't have that much to do. You must own the whole. Is your dad, does your dad own the factory? And you just got a no-show job? That whole thing, man. That's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that is imagination. Okay. I'll be perfectly clear with you about it from there.
Starting point is 00:17:53 But for me, for me, I went and asked Chad GBT to pull me up a list because I was like, maybe I'm being too hard on him. And I was like, them two tabbing Campbell joints, I actually think those are very well-written songs, including I'm ready, which is fascinating because he says that's the first song he ever wrote. He's still trying to get, he's still trying to get back to that one. That might be the number one. I see people who tell me, well, like, how well he writes songs for women, which I think is interesting. Go listen to giving him something he can feel or go listen to let's do it again and then put them songs, then baby face songs you talk about next to those
Starting point is 00:18:28 or put them next to Maddie Monday or whatever. And if your response to me is, well, you can't compare him to Prince of Stevie Wonder, that's the point I'm trying to make my men. man got beats, he got jams. But I feel like his lyrics over his beats, which are very good, is like a, was it, Wagoo? Is that how you say it, the burger? Wagyu, but it's close enough. Yeah, yeah, it's like Wagyu.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Yeah. With a slice of American cheese. Just kind of plain and uneventful. Now, if you got some other spices around that, you can make it work that American cheese won't get into way. You understand what I'm saying? but when they have the cheese cup, wherever they do the cheese cup every year,
Starting point is 00:19:12 I guarantee you that Kraft single does not win, okay? But he can do the job. And I'm not saying my man, it's not capable of doing the job. I'm just saying if we putting him in the class of the greatest songwriters of all time, there's a couple tiers of guys that he's not on the same level of.
Starting point is 00:19:35 That's just how I, I feel. Okay. But since the internet going nuts, I figured I should at least let you hear where it is that I was coming from on this matter. All right. We are back coming to us live from the Rangor, Sunny San Diego, California, boy, Deonté Lee. And we're going to get to the football, but I know you had to chuckle because we go back a while in the content since.
Starting point is 00:20:08 And I really forgot that people got to be. so bad about this. They're so hot. They're so bad at me. They don't want to say anything I ever say again. Hey, Kenny Edmund's got shooters. I think that's what I texted you left. Like again, this is, I'd say the only time it's been worse. And I was being far less, I don't know the right word, but I made the point that I would not want Chatea to sing at my funeral. I enjoy her music immensely. I've spent lots of money on vinyl of hers. But, you know, far as like actual factual singing goes. Yeah. We don't need her with eye on the sparrow.
Starting point is 00:20:48 That ain't her game. It's vibes, right? It is vibes and a certain thing. Brough, I went on a date two days after that and the girl showed up in a shy day t-shirt. Ah, damn. The internet, bro. In fact, somebody hit me up today.
Starting point is 00:21:03 It was like, you ought to tell them how you feel about Shade. And I said, I love Shade. Right. I don't love baby face. But still, man, it's like, people like, you can't even, they can't. Anyway, I've been saying this baby face day for like 15 years. Who do? At least.
Starting point is 00:21:19 At least, man. Like, this goes back to early Twitter argument days. Early evening Jones days. Yes, long time. I felt this a very long way. But, hey, man, this NFL season is getting interesting. This is the first time that we have done a full show since the shocking victory of the Bears of Chicago over the Eagles of Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Shout out to you, Case Keenum, right? Like, that's, that was a great commercial for Big Brain being. It's like, look, man, if you can just hold it together and get out here and do what I set up for you, anybody, you know, even a caveman can do it, right? On the other side, Jaylon Hertz, and look, after this baby face thing, I feel like I need to be kind of careful what it is that I say about Jaylon Hertz. But at the same time, that did not look good. It didn't look good.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I would tell you to track carefully because he also got the cues riding behind him. So now we got a very specific faction of people who will be riding in your mentions in DMs if you run afoul of them. But no, I mean, it looked like it looked like everything that, God, I hate to even bring this back up because I know it's going to happen to my mentions. It sounded, Monday night looked a lot like what AJ Brown was talking about, not liking about the offense, right? Where, oh, yeah, we add all this great stuff into offseason and we're supposed to be, you know, this Shanahan-McVeigh-esque offense, and we're going to be layered with all these different runs and play actions and throwing the ball in the middle of the field.
Starting point is 00:22:45 And then you're watching in the second half, and balls are being thrown up the sideline. And it's Devante Smith, go be a hero. It's Jalen Hertz, patting the ball in the pocket, you know, waiting. Guys are open, not seeing the football. It was a lot of that again. And this was another week where the run game was okay,
Starting point is 00:23:03 but not 2024 good. And, you know, this just raises the question again. If you have to have a run game that looks like to the 2024 Eagles in order for you to compete for a championship, what is that actually saying about your passing game? Right? And I think that those questions will remain until we really see things coalesced
Starting point is 00:23:22 for Philadelphia's offense. How do we have something like this with them every single year? Even the Super Bowl year, where they got to the Super Bowl in one of the most dominant performances that we have ever seen. it should they should not be so entertaining and so good at the same time
Starting point is 00:23:43 but they're not like entertaining because they're good. Right. It's just always something happening. Well, and I would say that like Monday was kind of a regression for Hertz. Like I thought the first two weeks, there were things on the tape that looked like, okay, this is somebody who is clearly internalized some of the critique that he might have been hearing
Starting point is 00:24:01 from within the building, some of the things that they felt like he needed to work on. He was trying to operate the offense within the structure of it. I actually thought the second half against the Titans, he looked more like the version of the quarterback he needs to be for that kind of Shanahan type of offense to operate well. And then Monday happened. And now you're just kind of right back to,
Starting point is 00:24:23 or are you telling me as the level of competition goes up, that you're going to be more susceptible to kind of falling back in the old habits. And it's not like it was a disaster game, but there were just so many missed opportunities I thought from this offense and from this passing game specifically against the bear's defense that we know is not good at defending the past because it has not been good for the entire time the Big Johnson's been there. I'm still just trying to figure out why it is that this offense struggles to find a rhythm in the passing game outside of just looking at the quarterback and some of the missed decisions that could have been made.
Starting point is 00:24:56 And look, they better figure it out because the way I see it, you tell me if I'm wrong here, this is a you have no excuse to not win your division. sort of situation, right? The Cowboys brought to make a wish foundation back. I suppose that that could get better. They got a brand new coordinator, right? Like there's room for growth and improvement. They're okay.
Starting point is 00:25:16 But at the same time, they're always going to give up a gang of points. The Giants, I think we can safely say are finished. Unless J.J. McCarthy pulls off and one of the more unlikely turnarounds that we've seen in quite a while. Washington may be better than one in two would indicate and they beat Seattle, but I don't think you can beat Seattle because it's the NFL and you're an NFL team. But I didn't come away from that. You know, Marcus Marriota at quarterback.
Starting point is 00:25:42 I know they got Jaylon, they got Jane Daniels out there and some kind of brace on his elbow. And I'm like, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. We don't need to do that. Yeah, we ain't got to do that. No, no, no, no. Like, look, man, he's done his part. He's shown he's willing to do whatever it takes for the team.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Now you do your part and you get in there, quite honestly. Exactly. I don't understand what the point is of having your mom at practice every day if she's going to let you go out there like that. Like, that's the whole thing. Your mom was supposed to stop. Hey, coach, coach, coach. I think, I think JD's, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:12 I don't think today is the day. You might need a little time. Listen, man, as a high school football coach, I know that feeling very well. You take a peek out in them stands, you know, and you see mom or dad hanging out and you decide that you're going to get involved with the offensive line drills.
Starting point is 00:26:27 You're trying to avoid eye contact. You know what that conversation's going to be. Yeah, Jay, Jay, come on. over here. Come over here for a second. Let me look at, Coach, are you sure? Like, I thought, not my baby. And you know what? If your mama's still allowed to pull up, that's what your mom, like, that's what your mama should do. Your mama has the veto power. This is, this is what it should be. But otherwise, no, I don't, I don't think they have a chance. Like, Philadelphia should walk to this. Philadelphia also somewhat curiously, there's a 14 point negative differential at this
Starting point is 00:27:02 point. They have beaten the Titans and who, they played some bums the first week too. Yeah. Yeah. Bumish. So this hasn't been great. This could this could be one of those seasons. If things, I remember, I mean, the year before they won the Super Bowl, remember they had one of those epic collapses with a much more talented team. Yes. I think we would say than this one. I would say if you are an Eagles fan, you're now looking at next week's game against the Rams is not an inflection point, but that is going to be the week that tells you a lot about who this team really is supposed to be this season, because you got to score to keep up with L.A. If it's one thing that is for sure, outside of whatever that debacle was in Australia,
Starting point is 00:27:44 you know that Matthew Stafford in this offense, basically no matter how many receivers are actually on the active roster come game day, they are going to put points on the board. And you got to deal with 99 and Trent McDuffie and all the other guys that they have, and Jalen Watson and that good Rams defense on the other side of the ball as well. you're going to need Jalen Hurst to be at his best. And if he's not, and if his defense struggles, which I think quietly is not the story today because the passing game was a little quiet
Starting point is 00:28:11 in a way that maybe we would be a little more critical of Philadelphia's defense giving up all them yards in that efficient offensive day to Case Keenham, a third string quarterback on Monday night football. We need to see this offense kind of at its best against the Rams, right? Like, if not, I think that the questions will definitely ratchet up even more. And guess who else need to?
Starting point is 00:28:31 that win real bad. The Rams. Yeah. Like this is a, this is a for both teams. This is where your season can get like a little bit rocky. I feel like though, like I feel like if the Rams went down to one and three,
Starting point is 00:28:47 obviously that would be bad, especially because their division is, you know, as tight as it is at the top, you don't want no parts of that. But at the same time, there's something about me that feels like, okay, but maybe this is still a little bit of a sturdier sort of situation. I feel like the Eagles go down.
Starting point is 00:29:01 to two and two. Maybe I'm being unfair, right? Maybe I'm projected my own shit upon them. But I feel like if they come out, like barely winning those first two games, they then come out and lose these two again, especially if they lose this one at home, it's going to get loud around them.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Like, I feel like one of the good things about being one of the L.A. teams is it ain't never going to get loud. Like, it might get a little tense at work, but it ain't going to get loud. Like, shit, L.A. don't even know the charges ain't won a game yet. They don't even know the Charter started the season yet.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Lakers Media Day was on Monday. L.A. has officially out on all things football until, you know, until we get to all-star break, you know. They'll check back in after all-star break to go see what the standings ultimately were on the season and then they'll formulate their takes and reverse engineer the season from there. So, yeah, I think if you are in L.A., the heat is definitely lower. And I think in Philadelphia, and this is maybe just endemic to the fact that it's Philly and people there, everything about Philadelphia in all sports is always kind of teetering
Starting point is 00:29:57 on the brink of unhinged, if not totally unhinged. you do have the Rams and you have the Jaguars. And I think Philadelphia fans will correctly identify those teams as, you know, these are units that have good offenses and that are very clear about where they stand in the NFL hierarchy. And Philadelphia likes to fashion itself as one of those teams amongst the NFL elite. And if they come out and lay an egg the way that they did on Monday, people will be freaking out. And I'm not going to be the Eagles fan fighting a battle selling them that it's not that deep.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Because we've just seen seasons like this where things start going sideways. And then they really start, you know, bottoming out, happening far too often for this team. And by bottom and out, I mean a very talented team ended up being a disappointing 11 and 6 and getting blown out in the playoffs. I think that they would like to avoid that this year for the head coaches, job security sake,
Starting point is 00:30:45 for the quarterback's next contract sake, you know, and not to catastrophize, but I do think that all those things will be in mind for this team throughout the season and definitely over the next couple weeks. At their best, they were established the run guys. and you're talking now about doing that with a quarterback in his ninth year in the league. We've got miles, you know, he's got miles on them.
Starting point is 00:31:09 He had a bunch of touches. He had so many touches in 2024, man. Yeah, like, I don't know how we keep doing this. Like, actually, the 49ers, because they played that Australia game that I did not see, and then they played against two sets of bum, so I did not watch. So I don't know what McCaffrey's looking like over there, but it's a similar situation to me where it's kind of like, hey, guys, like, we can't be betting on.
Starting point is 00:31:28 we're just going to give the ball to the running back. Like McCaffrey so far has 166 yards in three games. Hey, man, you can do worse, but. And I think there's an acknowledgement there that, you know, they have Kalin Black as their backup runnerback and he's gotten quite a few touches, you know, early in the season, which is an acknowledgement of if we want this man to be available to us in January,
Starting point is 00:31:49 we can't be riding them in September and October, right? And what they've actually done is put more on the plate of Brock Purdy, who has been producing at a pretty high level, whether or not you think that means that he's a better quarterback than what you thought before is a different conversation, but he's been producing. The same thing's not happening in Philadelphia, right? We wouldn't even be talking about Saquan Barkley if we had a more efficient day from Jalen Hertz on Monday, right? We would all just be saying, hey, at least the quarterback is figuring it out.
Starting point is 00:32:16 He'll hold down the fort. And then maybe you can come back to the run game when you need it later on in the year. Right now the Eagles have to basically put the most weight on their biggest playmakers every week right now. because the passing game is not providing them any relief. All right. Coming up next, we got more NFL, including the apparently sorry-ass Packers. The music you love. I heart radio.

I just seized that about the Packers. They just can't block, huh? Not a soul. That's the literal worst thing you can say. Well, he just can't block. bro, like, I was sitting watching on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:37:24 First of all, you get your ass beat by the Falcons and Michael Penix's first start. At the crib. At the crib, all right? You don't ever hear Lambo Field booing and getting agitated, all right? They are very much happy go lucky. We're just glad we have our franchise type of fan environment. And you could feel the angst coming through the screen as you were watching. And I'm watching a falcons front that's missing.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Basically, they're two or two of two or three. of their best defensive linemen. Basically every week this season, because you got the James Pierce dealing with, you know, the conduct issues, and then you had Jalen Walker get hurt. And they are just blowing plays up left and right. And I'm looking at a guy I thought
Starting point is 00:38:04 could have maybe become an MVP this season just based off his own talent and Jordan Love. And he's looking like, you know, David Carr, you know, with early Texas. Soon as the ball hits his hands out of the shotgun, he got to move off the spot because the defensive tackle is right in his lap. There is no play call.
Starting point is 00:38:21 to mitigate offensive line issues this bad, and their bad offensive line that they already had is hurt. So now you're talking about playing twos and threes behind a set of ones that weren't that good to begin with. I feel like, and I know why you can't do this, but you should be allowed to, like, postpone a game or just be like, y'all got this one? Like, what's the problem?
Starting point is 00:38:47 We don't have enough guys that are capable of blocking. Hey, hey, hey, hey, man. that's a big problem. Right. Like, that's a, we can't, we can't, we can't go out here and play like this, can we? Trying to appeal to the safety, player safety. Yeah, like, like with their blocking situation, if this was a game that involved children and things were looking as overwhelming as they were, we start to run in clock, everything else, you're like, hey, man, we just can't, come on, man, it's not fair to put them out there.
Starting point is 00:39:11 And they just getting hit by other kids. Right. That's when you started letting holding penalties go. And the rest are looking at you, like, hey, man, I'm just trying to make it fair. I'm just trying to make it fair. Vita they're about to be on the other side of them this week. Like, Baker Mayfield's not going to play this week for Tampa. And Tampa can still win this game just because they have,
Starting point is 00:39:32 they still have guys that can maul you. They got him and the other Aaron Donald, the fake Aaron Donald, the new, the new but not improved Aaron Donald. Not saying anything bad about him as a player, as a Collagicancy. but he's an undersized whirling dervish defensive tackle for Pitt. Right. Yes. He's Aaron.
Starting point is 00:39:55 We know what the archetype is that he's trying to still, for sure. Yes. But yeah, them against that interior Packers line? It's bad news. I mean, honestly, the red alert had gone up after the Jets game a week ago, right? Where I thought that New York actually kind of thoroughly outplayed them. And Aaron Glens found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. at the end of that game with his clock management and his approach to overtime.
Starting point is 00:40:22 And like you said, I mean, now you're dealing with the great front seven. And you know, Todd Bowles is going to send blitzes. How do you plan on your quarterback being able to stay upright for four quarters, knowing what you're about to get from them? If you're the Cowboys now, you're looking at the Packers game in a few weeks saying, get right opportunity. We might be able to go get us a few sacks boys, right, and get a chance for us to feel a little bit better.
Starting point is 00:40:42 And that's just not the way I expected us to be talking about the Packers. coming into the year. And I think that this is me as a football guy having to reset, right? I think I've heard Dominique talk about this on your show and certainly on his show, where you start getting excited about teams because of their skill position talent and their top-in guys and some young, exciting quarterback, and you don't look at the trenches. And then after a couple weeks, you're like, why does this team not feel as good as they are? And you watch the tape. And it's because their quarterback is on their back every other snap. You know my story on that one.
Starting point is 00:41:16 It was the COVID Super Bowl. And I had been figured. And I had been figuring. And I had been going to be bringing in the same people. Yes, it's the same thing. I had been picking the chiefs all week. And then I looked up and they ran the offensive line. And I saw Mike Rivers.
Starting point is 00:41:35 And I said, I believe that I have made an error in my prognostication. It didn't take me any time past that to be like. Like I don't know. by the way, who was the LVP of the Broncos Panthers Super Bowl where Von Miller, who was on the other side of him, was the MVP. It was bad. That was bad. I don't know if you watched, I don't know if you've seen clips from like Sunday night football
Starting point is 00:41:59 where they'll pull up a bad offensive line back when they had the PFF grades. And it would be, dude's 36 out of 39 guards in the league. 37th out of 45 tackles in the league. Look, there is nothing. Is this actually an underrated thing in sports because you don't really see it that much, but there are a few things wilder to watch than a completely overmatched
Starting point is 00:42:23 tackle. And it doesn't happen but that often. But I remember the first time in my life that I saw this happen. And I know this is really for only the old players who are going to remember this. I believe it was the year 1991, the year that Washington had the incredible team.
Starting point is 00:42:42 But Tennessee, going into that draft that year, Tennessee had two offensive tackles. I feel like they went back to back in the first round. One of them went to Tampa. His name was Charles McCray. And the other one was named Anton Davis. And he was the right tackle.
Starting point is 00:42:57 And he went to the Eagles. And it was a Monday night game. And they had him on the other side of Charles Mann. And Charles Mann just ate him alive all game long. And you just over and over and over again. however you won it. And it was 91. It was that year.
Starting point is 00:43:18 It was 991. Ate him alive. There is the Thanksgiving Day game where Reggie White just destroyed rookie Larry Allen at left tackle. And he was this way. This is the, Reggie White is that might be the greatest ever and we just don't talk about it anymore.
Starting point is 00:43:33 No more. Yeah. Reggie White was taking Larry Allen. And I don't care how young he was, he was still Larry Allen size. And we were hitting him with that hump move. John Madden looked like he had never seen it before. because Madden had that clicker. That was the thing people didn't get about John Madden
Starting point is 00:43:48 is that the John Madden was better at using the tech than anybody. Going to the replay and the Telestrator, but that clicker, that clicker always went to the right spot, right back, and it was just Reggie White. Just, ooh, ooh, oh, oh, oh. My favorite Reggie White highlight, I figure you might actually be able to guess it because it's the one that jumps out better than Eddie of.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Is this one he's in Green Bay? He is in Green Bay. Oh, God. I feel like I can't, I can't see the opposing team. Minnesota. Literally look, yeah, I'm looking at the camera angle. It involves two Hall of Famers. It involves two Hall of Famers.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Somehow, Dennis Greed and it called some play that involved Chris Carter moving in line and being asked to block Reggie White. I don't think it was a one-on-one block of Reggie White because they didn't fire. Dennis Green. But somehow Chris Carter wound up matched up with Reggie White and Reggie White literally threw him into Warren Moon for the sack.
Starting point is 00:44:55 That shit could have been four on one. The fact that Chris Carter was involved, who made it the wrong call. And they said Reggie White would be on the other side of you saying that God has ordained this to take place. I can't imagine something more terrible to hear.
Starting point is 00:45:11 No, no. I told you, I told you, I told somebody that. was around the Rockets after Elijah Wahn became Hakeem. Mm-hmm. Right after he got to age back on it. And they said he used to tell the refs, God will judge you for this. They're like, what? Right.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Who are you talking to right now? Right. We're just out here hooping right now, man. Right. These cats that's talking shit to you, but in God language? Oh, man, they still, people see through that. They still taking you up and they still taking it with the disrespect. with which it is in 10.
Starting point is 00:45:46 You can't hide this behind something holy. I know exactly what you mean. No, no, no. And I know the old Jew. I know how to translate this in old you language. I want to switch gears a little bit. Buffalo, I feel like, has the potential to end New England season.
Starting point is 00:46:03 I would say so. I would say so, at least spiritually. Yeah, and it's in Buffalo. The charges had a chance to get one, but apparently they're sorry. Like that was, slightly sorry. They're probably going to be 0 and 4.
Starting point is 00:46:18 I checked out after after the Raiders game. But then I'm sitting there watching and I'm like, okay, you're up four and the turnover margin. I don't know why this game's close, but you must be outplaying this team. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:46:32 No, no. It was close because they're sorry. Yeah, Buffalo just was kind of sleepy for a game and then woke up in the fourth quarter and was like, that's right. We are much better than these guys. All we got to do is wait for them to give the game right back to us, and they will. And they did.
Starting point is 00:46:48 And they did. But I'm a little doom and gloom over here about Drake May. You got any optimism? Not right now. I think I could play the game that some of my buddies in the millennial media football guys do, where you can line up all the snaps on all 22 and say, well, which one is actually this guy's fault? And we could play that game all the damn day. and I will probably find plenty of reasons to say, hey, there's context here, there's context here.
Starting point is 00:47:18 You have to think about what the defense is doing here. And it's really hard to do that right now when you just turn it a ball over left and right, bro. Like there comes a certain point in time. And maybe it's just the coach at me. It comes a certain point in time where you just got to say, protect the fucking ball. Okay. Get me to the next play. I was just telling us to a quarterback the other day.
Starting point is 00:47:38 Your most important job is to get our offense to the next play with the ball and in our hands. And when you throw in the ball to blanketed receivers in the back of the end zone before halftime, to their best athlete, you are not doing your job as a quarterback. When you got a wide receiver that is being shoved to the sideline and you still
Starting point is 00:47:57 throw it his way and Jerry and Jones picks it off, that's a you problem. That ain't a play call problem. You say a hold the domino. Right. That's your thing. Just hold the domino. Right. Make sure we got the end of this round, we still go ahead of domino. And look, this is one thing for Drake May, you mentioned the play caller.
Starting point is 00:48:15 No one's going to blame him. No. Like, especially not like this. Yeah, and especially not with that franchise. That is an absolute made man in the capacity. Talk about Josh McDaniels. If he's the head coach, you can blame him for everything, and it will probably be his fault.
Starting point is 00:48:31 But as the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, nobody's going to say this is on him. It's going to be, whether it is or not, it's going to be on you. And they got to figure this out. Rable definitely needs him to figure this out. Because, you know, then we go remember. I mean, I guess the way I put that, it sounds like we ain't never forgotten. We just, we just wait.
Starting point is 00:48:56 I do wait to bring it up. I mean, like, ooh, there's a chance. Let's throw it out there right now. I can't imagine sitting in the quarterback meeting room with the head coach. And you're like, look, bro, they've been leaving me alone for a little bit. I need you, need you to protect this ball and get me a dove. We all are these questions. We all those are there.
Starting point is 00:49:13 These questions is going to come back. We don't give her. Right. We could get there. To me, and this has been something to me with Drake May back on the turnover saying that I have been kind of noting even last year when things were going well and he actually seemed to keep the interceptions down while they were being explosive. If you go back from 2024 till now when he was drafted, he has tied for the third most turnovers of any quarterback in the league. Sam Dron was first with 38, Baker Mayfield, the second with 37 and he's tied with Gino Smith with 34. That's just not the way that we talk about elite quarterbacks. You should not be way up there in turnovers.
Starting point is 00:49:51 And if you are, it better be bound to way. Everything else has to be way up there. Yes, exactly. You're scrambling better be amazing. And it was last year. You better be explosive in the passing game. And he was last year. And now that we're regressing a little bit in that,
Starting point is 00:50:03 and you're seeing that you don't have AJ Brown to be your security blanket. So it's really just you out there. And when it's just you, we watch and you give the ball to the opposing team, it's a problem. It's a huge problem. And I don't know. I wouldn't necessarily say that like he's broken or has the yips. I would say that that's a little dramatic,
Starting point is 00:50:21 but it is getting hard for me to say that's the case much longer. I'm going to switch gears because Dominique is already completely out on the Cowboys. So, you know, you may be too, but I don't know that about you yet. I, they had the chance to win that game against the Ravens, but I've watched them win that lose that game so many times in the last 30 years that I didn't even. I was like, hey, man, sometimes you lose. That's just what it is. But what do you think about them?
Starting point is 00:50:46 They're playing against the Texans who are definitely fighting for their lives in that game. And it kind of feels like if CJ can't get buckets in this game, then buckets are just not there to be gotten? I think that that's really it. I really think that's it. I mean, the Giants walked the ball up and down the field against his defense with ease. Baltimore basically had whatever they wanted on offense in that game on Sunday. And I would say, I mean, Washington was moving the ball just fine until Jane Daniels blew his elbow, right?
Starting point is 00:51:18 So this is not necessarily a new thing that just happened last week where now we're asking questions of their defense. This has been really a two, three year long thing going back to when Dan Quinn was still in Dallas, that they just don't have the guys to be able to play the level of defense that you need to to be a true contender. See, if you're Houston, if you're Domingo Ryan's, and you're trying to make sure that that seat don't get warm at all, you need C.J. Stroud to show up and go get you 250 yards and two touchdowns at least. Just get me something solid. You would like to see your offensive line actually keep your quarterback upright. And I think if you are Dallas, you got to be looking at this game. Like, if we don't get this one, man, all the good vibes, all the people who were talking
Starting point is 00:52:01 about us being sneaky contenders this year, the chances for us to be looked at as a team that's kind of bounced back after all the people that we've added on defense and bringing in Christian Parker, who's supposed to be this big fan Gio guy. All of that gets washed out if they don't handle business on Sunday. Hey, man, is Dak Prescott basically another run of Tony Romo where they kind of had 20 years of the same really good quarterback right up until you really need it, really, really need it? I think it's Tony Romo and I would add to it.
Starting point is 00:52:34 It's a very Tony Romo-esque career arc where you're going to look back at a three or four-year window and then like, damn, we actually had a shot to go win a super could have been with this guy. And we just weren't ready. And then once we decided to get ready, he started getting old, right? And I think that, you know, he's still playing great football right now, but you're talking about a guy who's on the other side of 30, who's had banged, you know, who's had lower body injuries multiple times.
Starting point is 00:53:00 This was right around that time with Tony Romo, where we started looking back and saying, hey, for all the hard times we gave him in his late mid, mids, late 20s, he was actually balling back And the Cowboys should have been winning more games with this dude. And for whatever reason, they just weren't able to get it done. We might be looking at this team in a very similar vein right now. And look, that end of that game, as I went back and checked it, I cut them a lot of slack at first. That was bad look.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Like the way to have a quarterback, not just that seasoned, he is in his 11th year as a starter, but also that good. Right. And the way it went in the end or just all of it was just kind of a, there's no we got this DAC out here like that's the thing those Buffalo fans feel like that when Josh Allen's out there right
Starting point is 00:53:46 right um even there are postseason hiccups for Lamar but I've watched Lamar walk him down far too many too many times in those circumstances where it's like nah we got that dude out there the Cowboys have a very good quarterback that dude is a different space but that dude is kind of important to have absolutely and I think that you know like ultimately gave that game away in a way that they did not have to, right? Like I don't understand, and I appreciate Brian Schottenheimer coming back and trying to own it and saying,
Starting point is 00:54:18 hey, this is on me, you know, saying too much to my quarterback, you know, overcoaching him, giving him too many answers to the test. And then he makes a decision that I actually coach him to make when we had an opportunity to score. At the end of the day, man, you have four downs against a team that has not been playing excellent defense for the last couple of weeks. You could have put that game away. that game should have absolutely been put away. And I think that it's easy now because he decided to just kick the ball out the back of the end zone and give one of the three best quarterbacks and football a chance to get you in field goal range with one completion
Starting point is 00:54:49 that people are talking more about Schadenheimer as a game manager. But the real thing is that sequence inside the five-yard line after a pass interference. The game has to end there. If your quarterback is the guy that you believe that he is, he doesn't need overcoaching in that moment. You also have George Pickens. man, I don't give a damn unless they give you to Calvin Johnson
Starting point is 00:55:10 versus New Orleans punk coverage, double team. That guy is getting a shot at the football in that moment. So to not do so to not be able to punch it in, I think that Dallas should be, you know, rightfully disappointed that they gave a game away to a team that didn't necessarily
Starting point is 00:55:27 need to be in it to be able to, you know, go and go win that game with the game when a field goal. All right. Before we get out of here, this Minnesota defense looks, incredible. How much offense do they need? I see they're trying to bring
Starting point is 00:55:42 Justin Jefferson back out here this week, and that's not how high ankle sprains work, at least as far as I'm concerned. But I mean, they're playing a receiver. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, so I mean, they're playing Miami and they got Miami at home. So, I mean, I understand. I feel like NFL teams can beat NFL teams, but fuck out of here, right?
Starting point is 00:55:59 Oh, 100%. Yeah, how much offense does Minnesota need to really make this happen? Because Kyle and Murray did not look great but I think it's, I mean, first game, it's a fair point to bring up. How much do they need? I mean, now with the way the, with the way the Green Bay looks in the division and just kind of of the herky jerky nature that Detroit's been kind of playing with all season long,
Starting point is 00:56:23 they might not need more. I think you can go and ask your offense to just get you 21, and that might actually be enough. I might, I was probably not going to watch any Dolphins game all year, but I am now going to watch this game because I think there's a chance of Brian Flores. can actually blitz a hundred percent of the snaps. He hates him. That's right.
Starting point is 00:56:41 This might be the first game in NFL history where a team blitz is on literally every single defensive snap. That's what I'm going to be watching for. But League Willis is going to be out there like in baseball now because the pitchers don't hit. Like the pitcher throws at somebody. Now I got to get hit because you ain't got to come to the plate. That's where Belig Willis is going to be.
Starting point is 00:57:06 100%. go have that heel right on the edge of the white in the battering box, just ready to step out. Yeah, yeah, Flores is coming with that gas. Like, Flores does not actually have to approach this game with actual factual strategy. They ain't got A. Chan no more because he got hurt. So they don't, like, he doesn't have to be like, oh, I got to worry about these things. He used to be over there just messing around.
Starting point is 00:57:27 Exactly. What y'all want? What y'all want this time? What y'all want? It's all you. Y'all call it. Look like one of the preseason games where Steve Kerr will they, Draybaw be the coach? Like, Flores be like, hey, Harrison Smith.
Starting point is 00:57:40 Hey, you got to play today, man. Come run this. Come run this. It's your world. Like, they just, every time I tune in and see Minnesota, it's just a bunch of dudes coming all the time. There's no telling from what direction it's going to happen. 100%.
Starting point is 00:57:54 And it's funny, like, I have now kind of slung to the other side of the pendulum now, or I'm like, if I were Brian Flores, why would I, I don't have, it can't get better than this. Head coaching can't possibly be better than this. To me, You good where you're at. He is, he's going to spend the rest of his career and these numbers are going to come at some point
Starting point is 00:58:14 where he's going to be like a $10 million a year defensive coordinator. And the thing at least about being a defensive coordinator, especially, success and failure are very clearly determined. You know, like there's no, there's not a whole lot of shocking moves when it comes to the defensive coordinator, right? You know, we got to change the, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You know what this is when you're a defensive coordinator.
Starting point is 00:58:40 And he's going to reach that place where there's a difference between defensive coordinator. So like, for example, when we did our AI episode with my man Ted Trevor, who was on him. Ted, one of my favorite people,
Starting point is 00:58:51 he worked as a producer on that documentary. He worked as a producer on gang theory. And I always talk about learning something about management when he was there because Ted had been a showrunner before and he was the head of our field department. And he wasn't really the head of our field department. He was the showrunner of the field department.
Starting point is 00:59:06 Right? Like he had been that person. before, like guys get to that place where you get to be the head coach of the defense. Yes. You know? So, like, and Chip Kelly's back there at Northwestern now. Chip Kelly's the head coach of the offense at Northwestern. Which is really all he ever really wants.
Starting point is 00:59:22 That's all he wants to be is just to be the head coach of the offense. Brian Flores is going to get to be the head coach of the defense. They're like, hey, we would like for you to, he ain't even got to hear this. Like, I would, Brian Flores ain't even got to wear a headset. Right. I'm not listening to what you're telling me. Yeah, why are you talking to me? You better go talk to your quarterback.
Starting point is 00:59:43 Yeah, yeah, take your ass over there. And shit over there. Yeah, go get us. How about you go over there and get us some points? Exactly. That's what you can do. That's a conversation we need to have. I think there's no shame.
Starting point is 00:59:54 There's no shame of being this generation's Buddy Ryan, man. Like, you tried it out. It didn't work. People got feelings about you. Your personality is a low grading. All right. Hold on. Let me tell you.
Starting point is 01:00:05 But Buddy Ryan was never cool. would be in that either. That is true. That year, first of all, and for those who don't know this, because I understand that this gets low, buddy Ryan is, Rex Ryan's father. He was the defensive coordinator for the 85 bears. He pioneered a defense that doesn't work anymore, but was one of the all-time great defenses, which is the 46 defense. The 46 defense operated on this premise. We are going to put as many people in the box as we can to stop the run. Well, what about the pass? We're not going to let you throw it. Right. That's it. Right. Like, That was the whole premise of the defense is you can't throw the ball if we sack the quarterback.
Starting point is 01:00:42 Exactly. That was it. It was the ultimate feast or famine situation. And when it worked, it worked. He and Mike Dicka hated each other. Both of them got carried off. The offense carried Dick off the field after the Super Bowl. The defense carried Buddy Ryan off the field.
Starting point is 01:00:58 It was clearly two teams. Buddy Ryan was the head coach of the defense, but he was so good that Dicka could never fire him through all those years. Dick and Wildup, becoming the head coach of the Eagles. He gets fired there and he goes and he works on this horse farm in Kentucky because that's his true love. Out of nowhere, we're in Houston and the news comes after the 35 to 3 game in Buffalo. You go on exactly where I was about to go.
Starting point is 01:01:24 They blew the 35 to 3 lead against Buffalo. Had a really good defense that year, by the way. But they blew a 35 to 3 lead for reasons that had less to do with defense than the fact that you ran a 10 personnel, the whole game. Whatever. The news is the Oilers have hired Buddy Ryan. They did not ask Jack Party the head coach about this, but Adams just went and hired Buddy Ryan. Buddy Ryan is he called the run and shoot office, which is what it was called at the time. It interviews in public, the chuck and duck. He referred to it that way. He's got a radio show. He's got a TV show.
Starting point is 01:02:01 he's saying if I ran this, we would run this with two backs and two wire receivers, everything that he would do. By the end of the year, the defense was a monster, though. Oh, the defense was a monster. He's in the press campaigning for players. Like, you guys got to get me Wilbur Marshall in order to get this done. What, you're the defense? No, he's not the defense coordinator.
Starting point is 01:02:22 He's the coach of the defense. Buddy Ryan. And then one day, I remember we get a phone call at the house from a family friend, and she says we're watching the game. We're saying no, it's a Sunday night game. The orders of playing the Jets, and Buddy Ryan has just punched the offensive coordinator in the face. I mean, if you're Kevin Gilbride,
Starting point is 01:02:39 like, that had to have just been the worst year of your goddamn life. Except they were like 12 and 4. They were so good at the end. They were so good. And they lost. The day to day, you know, there is no respect coming from your defense. This guy only cares about the respect of defense. of players. I am terrified
Starting point is 01:03:03 to think of what he thought of war and moon. I don't even like, I don't even want to get there. Here's what for you though. Do you know who the quarterback was in the playoff game that put them out? I don't remember. I know it was at the Astrodome. It was at the Astrodome. It was the last playoff game at the
Starting point is 01:03:19 Astrodome. They played against the Kansas City Chiefs and the quarterback was Joe Montana. Wow. Wow. Yes. Yes. Before the Chiefs got good Like my thing about the Washington Wizards I'm 46 years old, the Wizards have won 50 games in my life.
Starting point is 01:03:34 For a long stretch with the Chiefs, it was the last time they won a playoff game. They beat the Houston Oilers. Wild. That era of Oilers. That era of oilers is wild. It was that far back. But no, that's the thing.
Starting point is 01:03:47 If guys, Mike Petton, remember Mike Petton got that head coach a job with the Browns? It was like I'd never want to be a head coach again. Yes. I think the same thing happens with offensive line coaches sometime, man. Bill Callahan took his shot and it was like, man, I don't get to do what I love with this job. I just want to be with the big fellas.
Starting point is 01:04:04 Just give me with the big fellas and I'm good. It doesn't sound like anybody on the coaching staff enjoys their jobs quite like the offensive line coach, because they like the guys they coach more than anybody else likes the guys that they coach. That's all. I mean, you and Dominique kind of talked about the personality types that become offensive linemen.
Starting point is 01:04:21 You know, the same thing kind of exists with old line coaches too. They give you the hard-ass stuff on the field. But outside of that, these guys are just, just hanging. It's just a bunch of big dudes talking about being big. Try to be helpful. Doing their job. Yeah. And try to be helpful.
Starting point is 01:04:38 What can I do for you? That's it, man. They don't like the stress. They are here to contribute. They don't want they're yelling at you, so don't yell at them. Right? It's a very particular personality type. Well, yeah, their thing is like, hey, we are entering into a covenant of sorts where I can tear this whole motherfucker up, but we don't want that. So I've just decided to be cool about it. Right. And so you guys,
Starting point is 01:04:59 should be cool about it too. I'm going to tell you the last thing. I can save this for the Dominique show, but I'm going to just say it now because I'm thinking about it. Monday night is Saints and the Falcons and it's 20 years since, you know, the Saints return to the Superdome
Starting point is 01:05:15 and it's the Steve Gleeson block. I think they have a statue of it. All of that. It's like it's a very important, very important day in the history of the Saints. I'm sure that Ryan will be very excited about it. And that's back when I still rooted for the Falcons.
Starting point is 01:05:30 And it's really tough because I don't find anything charming about any of that shit. At all. I don't. It's not a feel good. It's not a feel good story to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't look back on it at all with like, oh, wow,
Starting point is 01:05:47 how beautiful that was or anything else. None of that. None of that at all. I hate that. I hate that play. I don't, I mean, I have said, if you like it, if you, if you were in Orleans. But like if y'all cared so much about New Orleans like that, why don't you call
Starting point is 01:06:02 your fucking congressman and start doing a little something to help the place out, right? Like, it's all you got for them is, ooh, yay, way to block the kids. That's all you got for them? Because if that's all you got for them, then you ain't really doing nothing at all to be perfectly honest. You faking the fuck. I'm keeping it real. This right here is why the NFC South is the greatest fucking division of football. Okay. There's some real spite. There is legitimate spite. And honestly, And you know why there's so much, you know, the robbery is even better now.
Starting point is 01:06:33 Yes. It's so much better now. There's so much spite in that division because the teams for so long have by and large been so terrible that all you got is beating each other. Falcons and the States, what's there to get charged up about? It's our, we got two chances to win a game this year. I mean, and it's very particular with New Orleans in Atlanta
Starting point is 01:06:51 because there is so much just intermingling and people who have had to leave one city for the other for a bunch of different reasons. So it's always mixed company. Brother, I was at that Super Bowl where all the Saints people had bought them tickets, and then they got the business end of that call.
Starting point is 01:07:13 And all those people still came to the Super Bowl wearing their Saints clothes. And I had to be careful. Because on one hand, I wanted to laugh in all of their faces because it was so funny. On the other hand, you know what those people had in college. You know what they don't play that.
Starting point is 01:07:27 Those people were from. New Orleans. And I don't want to fight anybody from New Orleans under any circumstance whatsoever. I don't want to deal with them solo. I damn sure don't want to deal with a group of agitated New Orleans. White folks, gangsters and the thugs. I want no problems with any of them. Harry Cotic Jr. beat you to sleep. I don't, I don't want to hear none of that. But anyway, I will not be watching that Monday night game because they're not thinking about everybody in their audience, right? They normally try to be non-offensive. I'm very offended.
Starting point is 01:08:01 How about that? But hey, Deaite Lee, check him out, covering the NFL at the Rangor. My man, I greatly appreciate it. Appreciate you, bro. We'll see if I survive a babyface gate. I just over baby face, no less. Like, we're not talking about Stevie right now.
Starting point is 01:08:18 We're not talking about Michael Jackson. We're not talking about Fred Hampton. Right. Talking about baby face. Not going to cry. That song just popped in my head. and God, I love Mary, but you have Mary in the booth.
Starting point is 01:08:32 And all you can get me is I'm not going to cry these tears. 11 years. I was your lover and your sacra tell. He's just like, fucking, I ain't coming up with nothing else. I'm done.
Starting point is 01:08:48 It'll work. If I was just taking notes on the conversation and said, I can make a song out of this. Yeah, yeah. He's like, I watched the movie. I'm going to get, that exact scene. That is, that is, that is, That is what, that is, that gets back again.
Starting point is 01:09:02 That's my thing. It's always so on the nose. The only people who made songs more on the nose was 3-6 Mafia. Right. This song is called, let's plan a robbery. It's about planning a robbery. Tear the club up. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 01:09:15 What we got going on today? We're going to tear the club up, except they're not boring. Right. And that's the difference.
