In the fall of 2014, a group of hackers pulled off the biggest Hollywood heist of all time.
They broke into computer servers belonging to Sony Pictures and released hundreds of thousands of top secret documents.
The attack would cause an international incident, upbent thousands of lives, and changed the movie industry forever.
From Spotify and the Ringer podcast network, I'm Brian Raftery, and this is the Hollywood Hack.
Listen on the big picture feed, starting August 19th.
Football show, my name is Danny Hyfitz, and I am joined by Danny Kelly.
And that's it. No Craig Horlebeck.
Today, he is reportedly requesting a trade from the New York guest.
So it's too bad.
But you know what?
Kind of like Jerry Jones.
We don't miss him.
Right, D.K.?
I feel like there's a lot of urgency to get him back immediately.
Yeah, there's urgency.
Yeah, there's a ton of urgency.
Just going to say that.
We're tired.
All right.
So I don't know why we said there's no urgency.
Okay.
Time to get to today.
Football is here for real this time.
Not really.
But it's like the Hall of Fame games football's back, but it's fake.
Week one is real football back.
Preseason week one, it's like football's here.
And there are games being played and it's Friday and Saturday and it's weird.
But it's here.
So we have a ton to go over.
Preseason is weird, but also there actually is a lot to learn.
Like we're seeing rookies and actions.
We're going to go over everything.
Real quick.
Our rankings are at fantasy football dot the root.com.
Great site, right, DK?
Great website.
We are updating those very frequently when we hear news,
trying to make it as accurate as possible for your drafts.
And it's also the draft tracker on our draft guide is really incredible.
We actually used it.
We did a ringer league the other day and we used it.
And it was very effective, very helpful.
So I really recommend doing that too.
And also just the light PSA.
If you like this show and you listen to us for Fantasy in August and everything,
we also cover everything during the season.
Like we do recaps every Sunday after Sunday after Sunday in football.
We do waiver ads on Mondays.
We do power rankings for a ton of topics on Wednesdays, trade advice,
but also just covering the whole league in general.
And then Fridays we preview the game.
basically whatever is interesting us, fantasy, everything,
but also just we cover the whole league.
So stick with us during the season as well.
All right.
So we're just going to do winners and losers from preseason week one right off the jump.
This preseason winners and losers segment is brought to you by Yahoo fantasy football,
who is sponsoring the segment,
but also is actually our favorite fantasy football platform.
We actually use it.
We actually use it for real.
Like it's actually our favorite by far.
We have been using the ringer league on it,
I think literally since the beginning of the company.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like it's just, it is always been the official platform of ringer fantasy football.
And now it is officially the platform of ringer fantasy football, which is super convenient.
So for fun, that's Yahoo!
But also, you're going to win because with Yahoo Fantasy football, you can win in your league and someone will win $1 million.
All you have to do is play in a private Yahoo Fantasy League and enter the sweepstakes by September 5th.
Enter now at Yahoo!
com slash fantasy.
And we love Yahoo Fantasy football.
And especially they have the new Yahoo Fantasy Football app.
which again is where we have the rear fantasy football league so it's easy to it's just it's just
the best platform and Craig if he were here he would evangelize yeah as well so you'd be singing its
praises he would so we're going to go through all the winners and losers from week one and i i think
we just have to start tk with the rookie quarterbacks oh absolutely and caleb williams was
the first pick so we should might as well to start with caleb williams two drives
Caleb Williams four completions for 95 yards.
TK, I feel like when I watched this
what stood out to me with Caleb Williams,
the arm strength, the throwing on the move,
I look at Caleb Williams and I just see Aaron Rogers.
I do like the Aaron Rogers comp.
I ended up comping Caleb Williams
to a really interesting accordion player.
So that didn't really like,
it's not like a one-to-one football thing necessarily.
But yes, Aaron Rogers, and for a number of reasons,
number one, I think the arm strength accuracy,
sort of the out-of-structure brilliance that he brings,
but also like size-wise,
they're similar size.
I just think there's quite a few things
that kind of you can see Aaron Rogers game
and Caleb Williams.
He came out and like,
I don't want to overreact to preseason game,
but like he looked really comfortable.
He looked like he belonged.
It did not look like it was too big for him.
There was a play early on where they were trying to run a screenplay
and pressure got there really quickly.
And he kind of just like flicked it across his face like backwards.
Like I don't even know.
I've never seen that.
It was like truly like a Mahomesian.
type of play where he just flicked it across his body, across the field, and directly into
DeAndre so his hands as like a big 40-something yard gain on a screenplay.
There was a play a little bit later where he rolled out to his right and completely off
platform, just rifled the past 26 yards down the field to Cole Komet.
So right there, you kind of just get like an early glimpse of why everyone was so excited about
Caleb Williams coming into the draft.
Like he did exactly what we were hoping he would do in a very small sample, of course,
and he has a lot to prove still.
But man, that was exciting.
And by the way, he also had a scramble
where he looked really explosive
and you can kind of see some extra potential there
as a runner that maybe people aren't kind of accounting for
in fantasy.
So overall, I have to be very, very encouraged
with what you saw from Caleb Williams.
The play you talking about with Deancho Swift,
the bills like blitzed Caleb Williams
and everyone got there.
And so five people were surrounding him on all sides.
It looked like at a Jewish wedding
when they surround you at the horror.
You know what I mean?
Right.
And like, it's just everyone making a ring.
And literally it was the most surrounded I've ever seen a quarterback in like a preseason.
And he just flicked it.
And it's the epitome of like why you take.
You can't teach that.
It was like pure instinct.
He just got.
He's a gamer.
Yeah.
And then the other one, I know it maybe it sounds like hyperbolic when I'm Aaron saying he's like Aaron Rogers.
He modeled his entire game off Aaron Rogers.
Like it's his favorite player.
He grew up watching the Packers.
He'd been rooting for the Packers because he want.
And he like, you see it in his game.
This is a guy who watched Aaron Rogers on YouTube.
and like emulated everything he did.
And I'm not, I'm, I'm, this is my ninth season, I think, covering the NFL.
I've never been more confident that a player would be great.
I've never, ever been more confident in a quarterback prospect.
Do you feel that way?
I know I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, but I think Caleb's the truth.
Yeah, look, I mean, prior to the draft, this was my number one overall player.
I always stuck with that.
I basically, from start to finish, she was my number one player in the draft overall.
His skill set is so, it's just kind of a unique skill set because he has,
a extremely, extremely strong arm.
He's very instinctive and natural out of structure.
Like that exactly what you're saying, he's just kind of like a gamer.
He just has ways of completing a pass that just come very naturally to him.
It doesn't look like he's trying all that hard half the time.
And he can throw off platform really well.
He kind of reads the defense in a very natural way.
He's just a, I think just the big picture, he's a very natural football player.
He understands what the offense is trying to do, and then he goes out and executes it.
And even when it breaks down, he still kind of knows where all the pieces on the board are.
So add all that.
Like I was very excited about him coming into the draft.
Add that into a system and a scenario where he has some very good skill players around him,
a defense that's on the come up.
And I don't know exactly how their offensive line is going to be,
but they've invested pieces in that offensive line.
So I think, again, we've talked about this a million times already in this draft period.
But he has one of the best situations that any rookie quarterback has ever fallen.
and into. And he's also one of my favorite rookie quarterbacks ever. So like, I'm very confident
that it's all going to work out. And they're also just using my play action moving all the time.
After watching Justin Field that one season where he just dropped straight back into the same
pocket over and over. It was like everything about it was amazing. Well, yeah, it's like I think,
I think you have to have somewhat low expectations for any rookie quarterback. Like generally
speaking, that's the right thing to do. And a lot of the times, these guys just look lost when they
start and it's a process of like, you know, getting in the rhythm of the game, knowing your teammates and
knowing the playbook and knowing all the play calls and just it's a, it's drinking from a fire hose early on.
You didn't see any of that really with Caleb Williams to start this game. It was like he, it looked like he
looked like a veteran, honestly. J.G. McCarthy made his debut for the Vikings as well. Honestly,
Jiji McCarthy did have the jitters to start. He threw, I think a pick on his first drive. He ended with
a couple touchdown passes. He had a deep one for 35 yards. He had a 33 yard touchdown pass. I've really
JJ McCarthy got way better as he went on.
Like every drive kind of looked better than the previous one.
DK, what did you think of McCarthy's debut for the Vikings?
Another really, really encouraging debut.
I mean, man, just watching one week of preseason football,
I'm like so excited for the future of the NFL.
Like, it's like, I feel like quarterback is bit,
we're in a bit of a transitional period where you see a lot of legends
that have retired or sort of aged out.
And we need to fill those coffers with new exciting players.
And I'm like, after one week of preseason football,
I'm back in, baby.
This is so exciting.
But with JJ McCarthy in particular, you said it.
He threw a pick on an outer structure of play where he kind of scrambled to his right and he forced it into coverage.
He got picked.
But the big part and the important thing, I think KLC even said this, Kevin O'Connell said this after the game.
Vikings head coach, not Kevin O'Connor, collie get the ringer.
He said after the game that he was very happy that McCarthy came back and continued to just rip it into coverage.
Like he was looking downfield.
He was stayed confident.
He didn't let that first drive jitters, like continue over, and he basically stuck with it.
And he did really well.
He ended up throwing, you know, four or five really impressive passes, including two touchdown passes.
The scheme clearly fits what he's trying to do.
It fits his skill set.
He's willing to make those tight window throws.
He's willing to work over the middle of field.
They had a couple of really nice plays on play action that worked out well for him.
And I'm just, again, really excited about what he can bring to this offense long term.
And even in the short term, maybe this, maybe I'm being a little too worrisome about
Justin Jefferson this year.
Maybe like Justin Jefferson is just going to be okay, whether it's Darnold out there,
whether it's J.J. McCarthy.
Maybe this offense is just such a good design that it doesn't really matter that they have a
new quarterback.
It matters less than I'm thinking.
Yeah.
So we have Justin Jefferson our top 10.
And so we still think it's going to be a really good player.
We have first rounder.
We've just been a little nervous about, you know, Tyree Kill has proven it can be the number
one receiver, but two, what about Jeff?
Do you think that JJ McCarthy after watching him play?
Do you think you should start for them within the first two or three weeks of the season?
Or you think it's more like midway through the season, we'll see McCarthy.
That's a good question.
I mean, Darnold was pretty impressive as well.
Donald had a couple of nice throws.
He ran the offense pretty efficiently.
So I don't have like a really strong take that it should absolutely be J.G. McCarthy.
But like at the end of the day, he's the future of this franchise.
Well, maybe it's Donald.
You don't know.
Maybe, maybe.
But I mean, overall, generally speaking, I am just a little bit more.
more confident in either of those guys running this offense.
Of course, like we've always loved the Kevin O'Connell offense.
And he calls a really smart offense and keeps people on their heels.
So, you know, again, it was just a little bit of a confidence booster to seeing both of those guys play so well.
So next up here, so again, and JJ McCarthy, well, I mean, this whole, all this group was there were six quarterbacks taken in the top 12 of the first round this year, which is unbelievable.
So next step we have Jaden Daniels, who was the second pick to Washington.
It's kind of like history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.
this is just RG3 all over again almost in a way
Jay and Daniels he played OneDrive
and completed two of the three passes
and one of them was actually cool because
he made an audible at the line that apparently
it wasn't really authorized to do and he just kind of did it anyway
which is... As for forgiveness, not for permission.
Was it the last show where we were trying to figure out the difference between
Aura and Riz? Right. And based.
And based. I think calling it audible
when you're not really allowed to do it, but getting it right,
that's Riz.
I'm not even going to pretend I know what it is.
Okay. Well, it's all right. I mean, I'm pretending. It's fine.
I was thinking it was aura, to be honest, because he looked cool doing it.
All right. Well, maybe it's all right. I don't know. But anyway, the other thing was he did it. They did a zone read from like the two yard line or whatever.
Yep. And the defense played it right. It's like a switch in basketball. And they did it right. It didn't matter. He just ran around the guy for the touchdown. And I was like, yeah, he's incredibly fast. This guy won the Eisenman. And so anyway, yeah, Jen Daniels. I feel like he's going to be really. He's going to start in week one.
for Washington. I feel like Jen Daniels is going to be a really good player on a pretty bad team.
But there's a lot of players on this team that are fun to root for, which is weird. But I think
they're going to be bad. I mean, that would not be surprising whatsoever. I don't know what the deal
with their defense is. They spent a lot of time trading away some of their best players over the last
year or two on defense. And so I think it's definitely going to be a work in progress. Overall, though,
like for commanders fans, people that wanted to see flashes of what is to come with Jane Daniels,
Like that was sort of a perfect one drive sample because he, like he said,
he audited to a deep shot down the sideline.
Was it to Diami Brown?
I can't remember who he threw it to.
I forget.
But he dropped it.
It was crazy because he basically put it in the guy's right arm,
which was like the only place he was going to catch it.
It was like one of those,
like you see the videos of them throwing 50 yards downfield into a trash can.
Yeah.
That's why they do it.
It was actually like crazy impressive.
I mean,
and that's exactly what I wrote my scouting report on him.
I even said like he has a Russell Will.
Wilson-esque ability to just launch moon shots down the sideline.
That's like one of his top strengths is those deep shots down the sideline, put it
exactly where it needs to be perfect touch on the football, hit him in stride, give your
receiver a chance.
And then, of course, came back a couple of plays later on his own keeper.
Obviously, I think he's going to be a really dangerous player in the red zone.
He's obviously not like the same type of player as Cam Newton, but just his ability to run
and keep defenses on their heels and help the run game.
help his running back score more touchdowns,
but also he can keep it and do some things on his own.
So again,
it was a very small sample.
He only had a couple of plays,
only one series,
but everything that you wanted to see,
you absolutely saw in that drive.
And so there's got to be a lot of reason to be pretty excited about this.
And again,
all this,
everything we're talking about today,
massive caveat because teams just run very generic defenses.
When the regular season comes around,
everything is much, much harder.
All the starters are playing.
You got actual defenses that they're playing,
that they're not trying to hide the film anymore.
So there's huge caveats with everything.
But even in preseason in the past,
we've seen rookie quarterbacks look bad,
have jitters, not be very exciting,
you know, still look like they're learning the playbook,
all that stuff.
And so there was a lot of things to be excited about
with, you know, all those three guys.
So speaking of which,
I mean, watching the first three guys,
I was pretty excited.
Like watching Caleb Williams was titillating.
Jaden Daniels, like the one drive was awesome.
McCarthy was kind of like,
oh, this is.
It wasn't boring.
It was picks and touchdowns and weird scrambles.
And then I watched Boonex.
Yeah,
what was your reaction to Nick?
I'm curious to hear what you thought of this.
Boomer Bo.
Boomer.
My reaction to Bo necks was,
so if anyone here is playing the new college football video game,
it's been very fun.
And D.K., did you even play Madden?
You're Tecmo Bowl old, aren't you?
Yeah, I played Tecmo Bowl growing up.
I have played Madden before, but literally...
I have played Madden.
The last time I played any video games with any,
like, consistency was in college.
college. So it was like 2000.
The 90s. They're early odds.
So I'm not going to have much to say on video games.
So the new, the college football video game is humbling in a way because obviously you can
throw deep shots to guys who are really fast. But you really have to throw like high percentage
passes like near the line of scrimmage, which I never did in Madden. I don't think there were
five times in my life. I picked the play and he'd be like, I'm going to throw this into the
flat. Like who does that in Madden? And the new college football video game, like you got
to throw into the flat. You got to throw like really things at the line of scrimmage.
Grimmons trying to pick up like five yards.
And I watched Bo Nix and I was like, this dude's doing the boring ass college stuff
in this preseason game.
There's nothing.
His numbers were fine.
It's like four, he had four scores and five of the drives, 15 completion.
That's why he was born.
Four scores and eight years ago.
Well, you know, it's crazy.
You said, dude, I was half, I'm joking when I say Sam Donald could be the future of the Vikings.
Bo Nix is two years younger than Sam Darnold.
He is the future.
He's on his fourth team.
He's two years older than Bo Nix.
And you watch Bo Nix.
And I don't know, I'm curious what you thought.
My take was all the completions were like stuff, like stuff around the line of scrimmage.
It was screens.
It was like quick slants.
It was just like quick, immediate first read.
Just get this.
We're to take the yards.
But the Broncos aren't really a yards after the catch roster, but they're doing yards after the catch plays.
And then every time he tried to push it downfield, it didn't really work.
Yeah.
I would say overall he played clean.
He played efficiently for the most part.
He wasn't making egregious mistakes.
But also, there was.
So boring.
It was like late career Drew Brie's offense kind of deal, where there was a lot of checkdowns.
You know, he ran the ball a couple of times, which of course is exciting in fantasy.
Because if he's scrambling and they even had a design keeper for him that they picked up a first down on.
You know, I think it was like essentially what he went exactly along with sort of the scouting report on him,
which is that he, you know, protects the football.
doesn't really push the ball
downfield aggressively.
Yeah. Boom or Bo?
He distributes the football.
Like, it is, he was exactly what the scouting report would indicate,
which I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.
The late career Drew Breeze comp, I like,
because it's kind of like when Drew Breese,
he didn't have the arm strength.
Plus running, plus running.
Yeah, it's like he had the perfect fundamentals
for Drew Breeze,
and he had the 20 years of experience,
you know, in the NFL where he knew everything happening
as it was happening, perfect fundamentals.
And Boonex is exactly like Drew Breeze,
without any of the perfect fundamentals
or the experience.
Right.
I guess like I'm
I'm trying to think of how to like put this
because I do think overall it was a positive.
He's fine.
It just wasn't it wasn't super exciting
but it was a positive for the Broncos
like a guy who could run the offense.
That's a good thing.
I just think the same thing we've said all along
is probably an overpay to get that type of quarterback.
Exactly. I think that's the thing.
I actually, I'm not going to lie.
I'm a little afraid that he'll be,
he'll be okay in the NFL.
Like, I'm a little afraid because I've been so hard at him.
I'm a little afraid that I also think conceptually I can see this, Sean,
what they're trying to do succeed just because in this world where all these NFL
defenses are trying to prevent explosive plays.
I feel like the Broncos are one of the few teams truly building their entire identity
around thinking and dunking down the field or whatever, like, you know, with this Bonick style.
But he's not, he's not necessarily, like, I feel like even when they settle for mid-range
jumpers, like he's making it on it himself.
Like there were parts where he was like,
in a clean pocket, stepping up for no reason and just, like, making everything hard.
I don't know.
I'm not a fan.
Bo Nix on his own, not for me.
That's fine.
Look, I, again, I think it was overall a positive.
I will say from a fantasy point of view, the running backs of this group are going to catch a lot of passes.
Like, in PPR and half PPR, the running backs for the Broncos, whatever, however it shakes out because Javante Williams started.
Adrick Estimate got some reps.
Jalooleu McCleckland, I thought looked really good.
And a couple other guys, Blake Watson actually got in there and he looked pretty
decent at times. He didn't play until later, but overall, I think the running backs in this group
could be kind of like a fantasy cheat go, because I think they're going to dump it off to the running
backs a lot. All these running backs are going to have to catch passes. Yeah, so I think that that's,
I want to button all these situations with like quick fantasy advice. So for the Broncos,
the short version is I don't want Bo Necks in fantasy unless it's a two quarterback league.
I think you want the running backs over the receivers generally. I don't really have any interest
in Cortland Sutton. I don't really have any interest in, I mean, I guess Marvin Mims is a priority
So, like, Marvin Mims is an interesting one because he played the first snap.
He was announced with the starters.
And by the way, uh, Dwayne McFarland from Fantasy Life does a great job with the utilization
report of kind of like laying out how guys were used.
Nathan Yonke from PFF does it just also really well.
Um, but with Marvin Mims, he played like the first snap and then he sat until like the second
or third drive.
So it was like confusing as to where he's going to be playing.
It was Tim Patrick, uh, Cortland Sutton.
and Josh Reynolds, I believe,
were sort of like the starters with the first team.
Which like Josh Reynolds is a total vet.
Yeah.
You think that he wouldn't really need to play
whereas Marvin Mims needs reps.
But who knows, man.
So bottom line,
I agree with you.
I don't want any of these receivers most likely.
But the running backs in Denver.
Yeah.
If you had to pick one, who do you want?
I think Javante is the most obvious choice.
He started for the team.
And at Fantasyfootball.
Dot Thurger.com,
we've Javante Williams 86.
Yeah.
And then the other guy I like a lot.
We have,
we have, Audric Estima.
actually think we need to move them up.
We have around the 160s,
but I think he needs to be higher.
I know.
So I think like I have been on record saying I'm a little bit nervous about like how
this rotation is going to shake out,
which I still am,
but right now it's looking like Javante Williams is the clear leader of the backfield.
I think McLaughlin,
they need to get him more snaps.
I think he's a guy that has a talent.
He's a really good pass catcher.
He caught a pass down the sideline in this game.
I think he's just a very natural football player,
very explosive.
So he'd be a guy who I also want to grab kind of late,
just because I think he's going to catch a ton of passes in this offense.
Buttoning up these other teams, Vikings with J.J. McCarthy,
basically maybe we shouldn't be as worried as we were.
Justin Jefferson, we still have as a first rounder.
And we like all the other guys, and I probably like Aaron Jones even more than after this game.
Honestly, I'm a little less worried about this offense.
I think it's going to work.
Jaden Daniels?
The guy I like on Washington is Jaden Daniels.
I just think Jaden Daniels in the rushing.
Like, if you're going to have a piece of this offense,
I want the potentially best rushing quarterback, not named Lamar Jackson,
in the entire NFL.
I feel like Jaden Daniels is the guy.
Another interesting thing to come from that Washington game was Johan Dotson was playing primarily in the slot early on, which I think could be a really good thing for him.
Last year, they tried to kind of make him an outside receiver primarily.
You know, he's a very small, slight guy.
I think him playing on the inside is probably going to be a lot better.
And Cliff Kingsbury in the past has kind of fed guys in the slot.
So John Dotson's kind of a sneaky late round guy.
I'm not super confident in Terry McLaurin.
I really think Terry McLaurin is a great player, but I'm just a little worried about the voles.
volume in this offense for passing.
Probably a bad team. The Bears, I think
Keenan Allen's probably underrated again because I believe
in Gallup Williams. After watching that, I'm a big
believing in Keenan Allen again. Last up,
Michael Pennix Jr. for the Falcons, which once
again, just in case you forgot. I just want to remind
everyone. The Falcons gave Kirk Cousins $100 million
guaranteed coming off a torn Achilles at 36 years old.
And then six weeks later took Michael
Pennix Jr., the 24-year-old who had four season
ending injuries in six years of college with the
eighth pick in the draft. And
then Michael Pennix Jr. played in the preseason and thinking, what did you, what did you make of
Penix? And also, Kirk Cousins still recovering from the Achilles. Just in case people forgot.
That's the same. He's still recovering. Yeah, that's a little worrisome. He's playing,
but like, they're not going to play in the preseason. Right. I thought, I thought Pennix played okay.
You know, he had a couple of nice throws. He had a couple of, like, whole shots to the sideline in
between the safety and the corner. He had one play over the middle of the field that looked nice.
He had a couple of overthrows on a little dump off or, you know, he's like trying to move around and
make a throw to a guy in the flats and he over through him. That's kind of thing you see
on his tape as well. But overall, you know, he made a couple of nice throws, missed a couple
throws. I wouldn't say it was negative, but put it that way. But it wasn't like necessarily
super, super exciting where you're like, oh, maybe he's going to push Kirk Cousins. It was like
overall solid outing and something to work from. Do you think Michael Pennix Jr. played
techno pool growing up? It's not that old. Maybe he's just super into like 80s nostalgia stuff.
the other thing to mention real quick
Drake May
the second over no sorry
third overall pick he did play
but he played like three plays
and then he played one drive
he threw three basses
he didn't do anything so that was again
sort of just we'll have to wait for later
to see more it's funny to watch Bo Nix
play two and a half quarters
and watch Drake May play two and a half plays
I think that I think the Patriots are
this is what I kind of gathered
from all the different reporting around the team
like they're very worried about their offensive line right now.
Yeah.
And they're just like, hey, Drake, you got out there through a couple passes.
You saw what it's like to be in a game.
Let's get him out of here.
Let's protect him.
Again, it's more and more likely that he's not going to start the season as a start.
It's going to be Chikobo Berset.
And Joe Milton was pretty exciting down the stretch.
He'll be like a QB3 type of guy for that team, developmental guy.
But yeah, Drake May can't really take much from what he did because he...
You ever buy a piece of furniture, but you don't know where you're going to put it yet?
Well, sometimes when you
like if you buy a couch from
you know, like a crate and barrel or something like that,
you have to wait like eight weeks to get it.
It's like the Drake May thing.
So you just have like a huge empty living room
for the first like two months that you live at a place.
That's kind of the Drake May situation right now
with the Patriots.
But you know, overall, excited to see what he can do later.

Okay.
Let's keep rolling here with more winners and losers
just from preseason everything week one.
We have to talk about Jerry Jones.
Cowboys owner, the richest fantasy football owner in the world,
because he just bought the team to run it.
Older than Joe Biden.
Older than Joe Biden.
They let him out of the, as Craig said, the Cowboys,
I think they built an Ocean's 11 vault, like the movie.
And they, Jerry thinks they have a whole fake Cowboys thing on video that he thinks he's running.
And they built a replica and they let him out.
He got out today.
Sorry, we're recording this Monday, August 12th.
Last week on Friday, Jerry Jones was asked if there was like any urgency to,
signed CD and he was just like no
not really and he basically said like
is he missed and he was like no and then
CD Lamb quote tweeted it on Twitter and said
l-l-l-l-l and then my favorite part
Jerry then was asked afterward hey Jerry why did you say that
and he said I don't know why I said it
I don't know I don't have a sense of urgency
about getting it done but any reason you want
I was at Nobu two days ago
Give that as the reason.
Whatever you want to put out there.
We got to, the cowboys have to do a gag order on Jerry at some point here.
Dude, they got a hide-in.
Yeah, what I want to put out there is the reason is, yeah, he's a month older than Joe Biden.
That's probably the reason.
What did the nobu have to do with anything?
Was that where they got him?
He's a fan of future.
It's a sushi restaurant.
So here's the thing.
Just to remind people literally during the draft, they do a press conference after round one.
and Jerry Jones was asked about Jonathan Brooks,
the Texas running back.
And Jerry Jones talked about him for 30 seconds
as the most incredible player
he's ever interviewed in 30 years.
And then his son just fucking elbows him
right in the lungs.
And it's like,
shut the fuck up, dad.
He hasn't been taken yet.
Yeah, Jerry even said,
we've got him really, really, really high on our board.
And they're just like, dude,
like, and he's literally Joe Biden.
Like, they're protecting him
and like he's the face and he's just being held up
like weekend at birdies,
except he loves to talk.
And everyone wishes he would wander off.
Dude, this is unreal.
I love it.
What do we think?
What's going to happen with the CD lamp thing?
I think you're on record saying you don't think it's going to be a big deal.
They'll get it done.
No, so what is it?
Monday, August 12th.
You got a couple weeks?
I actually kind of think it's going to get done in the next week.
I actually kind of, I bet by the next time they just can't afford any more Jerry Jones comments.
They can't afford it literally.
So I thought what was going to happen before was that CD would wait for Brandon of Yuk.
and then they would try to top
at Jefferson and Iyuk
and that that might go right
to the week of the season.
I kind of now think
that they're just going to get this done
within like seven days
and I think it's going to be
five years for $160 million
and they actually just top Jefferson.
I didn't think that.
I think it'll be 5-160
and that won't even be the real deal
but that's what you're going to see from Schefter
five years 160 seedy lamb
they're just going to have to pay up
because it's this is a disaster.
I was at Cowboys Camp.
It's Brandon Cooks in three days.
dudes named Jalen is they're going to start for the Dallas Cowboys.
It's like they have nobody.
They're the top heaviest team of the league.
Honestly, the Cowboys are kind of an unsurious team.
I don't know if you noticed this from the guy is the Joe Biden running the team.
Especially with the, like you said, the lack of depth and established depth behind CD Lamb right now.
Also, Dak Prescott.
That contract is hanging up in the air.
And we saw like, Tray Lance started basically the final three quarters of the game yesterday,
had some us and downs,
but he clearly doesn't look like he's ready to be,
you know, the savior if that's what they're trying to do here.
I don't know what they're doing.
Have we laid out the Cowboys situation on this show yet?
I don't know if you had.
A little bit, but I can't remember.
What do you got?
So the state of the Cowboys is unreal.
Okay, so just the general state of the Cowboys,
Dak Prescott, if they don't get a deal done,
he will be a free agent, Tom Brady style,
and he could walk and they get no franchise tag, no nothing.
That Prescott would be the biggest free agent in the history of free agency,
because while he's not as good as Tom Brady or whatever,
he's like 31.
In theory, it's not crazy to think with how long players are playing.
Deck Prescott could play for his next team longer than he's played for the Cowboys.
Like there's a chance that Jack Prescott's, it's not crazy.
It's like guys are going to 40.
Like there's no chance.
There's not, it's not crazy at all to think Dak Prescott is halfway through his career.
That's possible.
So like, that would be a catastrophe to lose Dak Prescott.
So that's number one.
They don't have CD Lam signed and Jerry Jones is out of here saying we have no urgency
to get it done.
They have to pay Michael Parsons.
Then even if they got all those three contracts done,
And if they don't, it's a catastrophe.
Even if they get them all done,
they're going to have to build out a roster
around those three expensive players.
They couldn't get to a conference championship game
with those three guys on like rookie deals
or even less than that.
Like they couldn't even go that far
when they were underpaid.
Now they're going to have to deal with it
when they're properly paid.
It's a disaster.
It just feels like they're like frozen in the headlights.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, they're stuck in between eras
because Jerry Jones would spend,
Jerry Jones would rather like die
than lose and be irrelevant.
And Stephen Jones is kind of fine, just like cash and checks.
And they're caught between the era of Jerry who bought the team and the son,
Stephen inherited the team.
And it's like this happened to the Yankees with the Steinbrenners.
It happened to the Lakers from Jerry Bus to the kids.
It's like there's just a different thing when the kids inherit the team.
And so the Cowboys have no plans at running back.
They're running Zeeck back.
It's like a TV show bringing a character back.
It's Robert Downey Jr. with Marvel.
And the receivers.
See, Brandon Cooks?
And then like basically, I don't know.
It's not a serious endeavor to me.
And so they're just trying to hit the draft picks.
They hit a bunch.
You only have to miss a draft or two for it all to fall apart.
So I'm just out on the box.
Well, yeah.
I mean,
look, in Dallas's defense,
they were one of the best teams in the NFL last year from a total complete package point of view.
Like DVOA,
they're,
I think they were top 10 in all three phases.
Tell the Cowboys fans how good they were in DVA.
I know.
I'm just,
I'm not,
obviously they want more from that.
But I'm saying like you calling them unsurious.
On the field,
they're very good.
They're unsurious about the difference between winning 12 games.
and winning a super.
Put it this.
When I say on serious,
this is what I mean.
Because you're right.
That's unfair of me to be like,
here's what I mean.
They're ostensibly the most valuable sports franchise in the world.
Do you know where they rank in cash spending on their team for 2024?
Oh, yeah.
You told me that.
It's very low.
Isn't what is it?
Dead last.
Oh, God.
They're fucking last.
That's wild.
You're spending the least cash in the NFL,
the Dallas Cowboys,
less than the Jaguars,
less than the Bengals.
You would expect the team that is doing that has a very bad team.
They have very good players.
Yeah.
They need to be spending money on these very good players.
Yeah.
And they have some contracts to come in so like that could change the numbers.
But the point is, ignore the Eagles rank first.
Yeah.
Like, and that's it.
It's like the Eagles are spending at this moment in time,
$150 million more in cash on their roster.
I don't think you can realistically expect to win a Super Bowl if you're last in
that's bad cash.
Hence why I'm saying perhaps they're an unsurious thing.
That's kind of what I mean.
I understand where you're coming from.
I understand where you're coming from.
That's all.
Yeah.
That's all.
Okay.
Anyway,
speaking of unsurious teams,
the New York Jets
six months ago
traded for Hassan Reddick,
who was a pass rusher
on the Eagles,
and he wanted a new contract.
And the Jets traded for Hassan Reddick
in March.
Today, Hassan Reddick
requested a trade from the Jets.
He has not shown up yet.
Okay.
Son Reddick wanted a contract
from the Eagles.
The Eagles wouldn't give it to him,
so they sent him to the Jets.
They're like,
you guys figured out.
They never figured it out.
Hassan Reddick showed
up for the press conference, showed up in March, hasn't showed up since, and literally
won't show up at all now since he wants to trade. And yeah, this is why I think the behind the
behind the scene stuff that you don't really see with trades like this typically are, it's a
it's a trade and sign. So like a lot of times a team will trade for a player and then immediately
give them a massive extension. And they all decide about on that. Yeah, exactly before anything
goes through, right? Like they don't do it. They don't make the trade and then be like, I will figure it out.
Because then this is exactly what can happen is the player has all the leverage.
You know, the team that trade for him, in this case, the Jets traded for that player, gave up pick.
What was the what was the compensation?
It wasn't like a lot.
But they gave away a pick to get this guy.
I think it was like a third rounder.
It wasn't crazy.
But the, but the Jets also let Bryce Huff, who was this amazing undrafted free agent they found, who blossomed,
they do a great player, go to the Eagles.
Right.
So what really happened is they kind of just traded, not really traded.
but they traded Bryce off for
Hassan Redick.
Right.
And now Reddick isn't showing up.
And he has all the leverage here.
Yeah, it's sign and trades
a perfect thing.
They call it a thing in the NBA more than the NFL.
But they're all sign in trades.
It's like, yeah,
we're going to sign the guy to a new deal.
It's doing the trade
without the signing part.
It's kind of like moving into a place
before you signed a lease.
And you just live there now?
What are squatters rules?
Squatters rights.
Oh yeah.
Maybe it's not like that.
I don't know.
But yeah, no, I get what you're saying.
Actually, it's the opposite.
I guess it's letting someone move in and they haven't signed.
And they're like, well, I live here now.
Right.
Like, no, no.
You have to be like, too bad.
So what is the end game here?
What's going to happen?
Do you think the Jets end up giving him a deal or?
Because right now Joe Douglas, the GM for the Jets is playing hardball.
He's like, absolutely not.
We're not trading him.
We expect him to be here.
He's going to accumulate fines until he gets to camp or whatever.
So this is a great.
start to this relationship.
Yeah, it's getting fined $50,000 a day.
That's what we're finding Craig for not being here.
It's just like $50,000 out of his pocket.
So I think what's going on here, big picture is, so it's an open secret.
The GM, Joe Douglas and the coach Robert Sala are going to get fired if they don't miss them,
if they don't make the playoffs, like period.
So they're on the hottest the hot seats.
So what you have is the Jets are outside of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
The Jets are just a mix of Aaron Rogers's friends and the expendables.
All these like, yeah, they're just like Aaron Rogers' friends, like Alan Lazzard.
And then it's just like mercenaries who were in their 30s who are on one year,
like Mike Williams, the former charges guys on a one-year deal offer at Achilles.
Even they're not one-year deal, they're all one-year deals.
Mike Williams had the ACL tear.
Tyrone Smith, you know, missed, what, he hasn't played more than 13 games in a decade.
Like Tyron Smith is there.
They have a Morgan Moses.
Like all these guys are 33, 34 years old.
It's like one last job for all of them.
And so what I think is good, I think that the reason they're on short-term deals is the only,
I think Woody Johnson hasn't wanted to spend a lot of money.
because he knows that
these guys are,
like he knows Joe Douglas
can get fired.
This is a last tarah
with this group.
Yeah.
And ironically,
Joe Douglas was hired
because the previous GM
Mike McTagnan
when he was about to get fired
spent all the money
and the most guaranteed money
ever because he was like,
I don't care of to.
And so they're not letting him do that again.
Yeah.
Now I think they're going to have
to pay us on Reddit
because this is humiliating.
This is, again,
just reiterate,
the player has all leverage here,
which is rare.
I feel like,
well,
maybe not rare,
but a lot of times the team has leverage in these types of deals.
It feels like Redick has the leverage because they already gave up the pick.
Well, I guess it was a conditional pick.
I wonder what happens if he doesn't.
I don't know.
We don't have to worry about that.
But I feel like the Jets just lose face if they don't make this work.
This just feels like an arrested development bit.
It's like Joe's running the company.
It's supposed to be a sign and trade.
He's like, oh, I just thought it was a good sign to trade.
No, you have to do the side.
It's ridiculous.
Other preseason winners and losers.
Brock Bowers.
who is a guy that we probably have not talked enough about.
Right. Brock Bowers, first round pick to Las Vegas Raiders.
I think they wanted Michael Penix Jr.
They got snipe.
They took Brock Bowers.
D.K., you called this on draft night because they took Michael Mayer,
the Notre Dame tight end in 2023.
They took Brock Bowers, the Georgia tight end this year.
And you said immediately those two guys can play on the same field together.
And the Raiders are not only the only team to list their starting depth chart
as a two tight end set, they're the only team in the league.
They came out and Brock Bowers played all over the field with Michael Merins.
I forget what day it was.
Yeah, what day it was it Saturday?
Preseason games are Thursday to Sunday.
They blur together.
It doesn't matter.
Yes, I'm super excited about the very, very early returns on what this possibly could be.
I wrote this when they draft them.
Basically, you know, this drafting Bowers doesn't necessarily make mayor and Bowers redundant.
It's just they can use them in different ways on the field together.
It just is going to take a coach that is,
willing to do that because most teams in the NFL, their standard set is three receivers on
the field at the same time.
11 personnel.
That's like by far the most utilized personnel grouping in the NFL right now.
And it's rare for teams to have two tight ends on the field at the same time.
In fact, I think the Falcons might have been the highest usage last year in terms of 12%.
Yeah, but it was like 45% or something like that.
Now the Falcons are going to be like last.
Right.
Now the Falcons, based on the early returns of this first preseason game,
used 11 personnel like 95% of the time.
So, but going back to the Raiders, 11 of the first 14 snaps for basically the first team
group on that first drive, it was 12 personnel.
So, you know, whatever that is, 85% of the first series was two tight ends on the field.
They've moved Brock Barrowers all around the formation.
They had them lined up outside as like an ISO route runner on a couple of plays.
He caught a nice inbreaker on that one and took it for some extra yards.
He lined up as a fullbacker one play and ran like a little like out route out of the backfield, caught a pass for a first down.
Again, it's very early.
We can't really make any real strong judgments on this.
But like if they use 12 personnel as like far and away their top grouping.
And by the way, like just consider Brock Bowers is like essentially a receiver, I think.
Like he's a receiver that can block really well.
I don't know why, but I keep watching Brock Bowers and feeling like he's a mix of Demo Samuel and Kyle Eusecheck.
Right.
Like if you check was much, much, much more talented as a receiver.
But like to your point, the way that they line him up in the backfield and they use him in different ways,
I think the one hiccup and the one concern we have based on this usage early on was that he only ran a route on like 50% of the team's dropbacks.
He's blocking on a couple of plays.
And that's generally not what you want at all from a fantasy point of view because you want him running routes on almost every single play.
So that's a little bit nerve-wracking.
but we'll see what happens when they have their entire offensive line out there.
They were missing Colton Miller.
I don't think that's representative to your point because I think it's not representative
because there's a point where if your offensive line, if you want your guys out there,
you have to get a good enough look from blocking wise to run the plays you want to play
to evaluate your quarterback.
And if you think that you need to have two extra tight ends blocking because your full line
can't be out there, you just need to see how the quarterbacks play.
Yeah.
And so I don't think they're going to have Brock Bowers.
is blocking on half the stuff.
I would think, yeah, I would agree.
I would agree.
That's probably not a super representative sample.
Overall, so excited, though.
Like, he looked great.
You know, I thought the Raiders' offense was a lot crisper than I was expecting.
They're 12 personnel.
It's Devante Adams, Jacoby Myers, who had a couple of nice catches.
12 is two tight ends again.
I just despise the 11, 12.
No, that's the correct term, but I always think that in a sport with 11 people,
it's a crime to call 11 personnel or something meaning something else.
Sure.
Like, we can just name it.
second. There are two tight-end sets. It's Devante and Jacoby Myers and then Michael Myers and
Michael Mayor. Sorry. Myers is the serial killer. You're right. I wrote it down incorrectly here. Mike,
now I've Michael Mayer and then Brock Bowers. Like that four, that group of four pass catchers is pretty sick.
I'm kind of excited about what the Raiders could do. Aidan O'Connell got the start. So he might
have the inside track right now to be the starter for the Raiders, which I think I was not quite expecting.
I was expecting it to be Garder Minchie,
who also played pretty decently.
But yeah, I was texting with Austin Gale
during the game, and he's like, Super Bowl, maybe?
Eh?
Like, yeah, obviously there's a little bit of excitement here with this.
Austin's our coworker here.
And he was very much joking about the Super Bowl,
but also maybe not.
Totally joking.
Some enthusiasm for the Raiders off.
I mean, he was joking.
The Raiders are not making the Super Bowl.
I would literally, I would bet basically anything
that the Raiders would literally just name something.
I'll put it on the line.
One million dollars.
Yeah, sure.
Okay.
A billion, whatever you want to call it.
Love Brock.
Mike Myers.
One million dollars.
Michael Myers.
Next up.
Packers.
What?
Packers.
Dantavian Wicks, who I have said,
maybe my favorite receiver on the Packers,
played a third of the,
yeah, shout out to Nate Yonke and
Dwayne McFarlane did great stuff with the utilization,
how much guys play in the Lord's work of tracking the pre-season.
Dontavian Wicks played one of the three plays with the starters,
but then all set a 65-yard touchdown.
Yeah.
So the Packers did exactly what I was afraid they would do,
which is rotate their receivers with the starters.
This is just a pure rotation.
There's no, I mean, I guess Romeo Dubs might be the guy
who starts and plays the most snaps.
But, yeah, three plays.
Dantavian Wicks scores a 65-yard touchdown from Jordan Love,
and then that's it for the day for those guys.
So obviously awesome.
Wicks look great.
He got open deep, ran after the catch, ran away from.
the defender and scored a touchdown.
But yes, again, the Packers receiver rotation is going to be very difficult to parse in fantasy.
And it's almost going to need one guy to just get hurt so he can have some clarity, I think.
You know what that's like?
That's like the McKinsey.
You know the meme about the consulting firm McKinsey?
And they're like, there's a room with 10 kids and eight chairs.
Someone's like, we should buy two chairs.
And McKinsey's like, kill two kids.
God.
Tough decisions.
Yeah.
great receivers. What should we do?
Put them all in the field. Dick is like killer receiver.
Well, I mean, look, Christian Watson has had some issues with injuries.
We need someone to get hurt.
We just need you to take one for the team, Christian.
So for the rest of the fantasy people, it makes it easier for everyone else.
No, I'm obviously kidding.
But I think going into the year, it's just going to be tough to know who's going to score
in any given day with the Spackers offense because they have so many good receivers.
They also have a couple of good tight ends and like four good running backs.
I don't know what to do with any of these freaking guys.
Marshawn Lloyd, by the way,
the rookie receiver,
or sorry,
the rookie running back out of USC who everyone is kind of excited about
because he's super explosive,
hurt his hamstring,
which is not great.
I'm actually pretty worried about this for him for his rookie year.
This could, like, throw him off the track.
They might end up just going with AJ Dillon,
and we'll talk about Marshall Lloyd next year kind of deal.
I think Marshall Lloyd has two of three strikes,
which is a hamstring injury
for a guy who,
already had questions about ball security.
Right.
And I feel like getting reps as a rookie and holding out of the ball are like the two most important
things.
And I don't, and again, he hasn't fumbled in the NFL yet, but he fumbled all the time at USC.
And like, those are two strikes.
So he only needs one more thing to just be like, I'll see you next year.
Right.
I mean, the Packers have been talking about trying to get him a lot of looks this year.
The injury in training camp slash preseason is so tough because teams basically just have to
keep going on without you.
They can't just wait for you to get back and then insert you back into their lives.
Like basically now they're just going to have to make plans as if they're not dealing with
them.
You go back a couple of years, obviously.
This is a totally different situation.
But AJ Dylan was the second round pick for the Packers.
And he only got 46 carries his rookie year.
You got redshirted.
Yeah.
Jordan loved it to play for three years.
Right.
So this is a patient.
This is a patient build the foundation type of team.
What are they same of the Vatican?
They measure their plans in seven.
trees?
That's the Benadjazzar it, I thought.
You seriously thought it was maybe the Catholics?
I don't know.
Maybe they took that from the Catholics.
That's from Dune for those who haven't seen that.
But I mean, kind of the same idea.
Let's be honest.
Okay.
So the Packers are the Vatican slash Benazerzeret.
Right.
So anyways, I'm discouraged on Lloyd.
I like him as a player, but this injury is not great.
He's only going to be out a couple weeks,
so hopefully he can get back in and get in the swing of things.
But a lot of the times these guys have injuries early on,
and they just kind of get lost in the shuffle.
So hopefully that doesn't happen with him.
But do these are going to be more mad at me about saying that the Catholics or the Dune fans?
Who did I insult more?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Email us at Ringer Fantasy Football at g-mittle.com.
Okay.
Next up, other dude, loser from preseason week one,
Marquis Brown, receiver for the chiefs.
You know when you stick up for one of your friends?
And they immediately like make you feel like an idiot.
Yeah.
But you must feel this way about me all the time.
Like I feel like I have stuck up for Marquis Brown all year.
It's been a real role over.
I know you're finally like on the Marquis Brown train.
Literally five years.
Our first huge argument on this show was you liked Marquis Brown after week one.
And I was like, whatever, what happened again?
Or no, before the season, I forget.
No, it was like he had three touchdowns or something, his first game and then didn't do anything else.
And I said he would have three the rest of the year.
You were right.
Well, ironically it was about being hurt.
But the point is, I this year was like, Marquis Brown's on the Chiefs.
This is the most underrated signing.
It's a contract year.
Mahomes is the perfect mix of like needs a receiver upgrade.
And also Mo'am's like, he's one of those guys is going to get Markees Brown all the incentives in his contract year.
Mahomes going to do that for guys.
Like he wants guys to ring chase with him.
First fucking play in the preseason.
Markis Brown hurts his shoulder.
First play.
And a sternoclavicular.
joint.
Is there,
is there like a correlation between how many,
how hard the word is to pronounce and how bad the injury is?
Yeah.
Sterno clavicular.
Here's my thing.
So the clavicle bone went into his stern.
Yeah.
So they combined it.
So now it's one word because they merged.
I don't know.
Here's,
here's my thing.
So he's in,
he's in jeopardy for week one already.
Short answer is,
if you got hurt on the first play,
I'm out.
Like,
there's no way.
Like,
there's no way I'm going to enjoy this.
season of the Marquis. I can't live like
I can't live like this.
That's a fair. That's a completely fair
response. Not everything's just about like
value based drafting and like efficiency.
I can't live like this. I can't
have Marquis. I can't. I'm out.
Rishi Rice, Xavier Worthy, whatever. Like I'm
someone on the Chiefs is mispriced. This is great.
This is great for Xavier Worthy.
I think. And Rishi Rice.
Dude. I
I feel like actually this could be good.
There's a way we can make money off of this. I if it's
this is just good for Xavier Worthy and Rishie Rice.
That's it.
Should we just do that as a drop?
I got to forget I'd make money on this.
Because I think Marquis Browd was going to kind of muck everything up because he comes in here on a one-year deal.
He's probably going to be, he might be the guy who.
The first rounder who was drafted like the first receiver taken in 2019 muck things up.
Well, he's just going to mess up things for fantasy is what I'm talking about.
Oh, okay.
Because, you know, he might have ended up having more targets than Rishie Rice, ultimately, if he hadn't.
gotten hurt on the very first play
of the year. And he might play. I want to be clear that he's
probably going to play. He's going to come back
in a month. I just like, but I just
can't. But you're, I think you're right.
I think Xavier worthy, Rishi Rice,
and Marquis Brown are the three guys.
And then Sky Moore's just
you know. Skymore is he's
the he's the umuster blue through this group.
Yeah. Unfortunate.
I forgot to mention Cadarius. Obligatory
Cadarius. He's still there.
Somehow. He's a running back kind of
now, which is cool.
Cadarius. That's all I got to say. Craig would be mad at me if I didn't say anything about Cadarious here.
Craig is somewhere just like fist pumping. That's okay. Mentioned Cadarist Tony. Okay. Next
Lusor preseason week one, charges offense look disgusting. Obviously obvious caveat. Lots of backups
in that crew. And they were going against the Seahawks first team defense. The CX played their starters for a couple of series. I want to say at one point, I saw this on Twitter. So don't quote me if it's wrong, but one
at one point in the game they had 13 yards on their first 15 plays.
Not great.
Very exciting for me personally because I am a Seahawks fan
and the Seahawks showing some like teeth as a defense is extremely exciting
and a foreign feeling for me for the last six, seven years or something like that.
The L.O.B of, you know, the Seahawks heyday.
There's just something.
Sorry.
Not everyone just knows the LHUB.
The lesion of boom.
There's something visceral and primal about having,
the most dominant defense in the NFL.
I'm sure, you know,
whoever has that has that belt at any given time can understand that.
It's a great feeling.
It's just like you can,
you can just dominate your opponent.
It feels so cool.
And I haven't felt that in so long.
Obviously, not the Seahawks are not going to do that this year,
but they did this game.
I think this charges game is also noticeable because obviously
Justin Herbert is his Planner Fascia injury.
Not Planner Fesciitis.
It's an injury to the Planner Fascia, whatever.
He's doctor.
Yeah, I know.
So I was there at camp,
an Eastern Stick,
brutal. Max, Doug and
Duggan, whatever, the TCU quarterback, just, sorry,
Kai. Sorry, Kai. Just fucking brutal. The
charges just have this TCU team. It's like
Max Duggan, it's like Darius Davis, it's Quentin Johnson.
Quentin Johnson was, dude, running
with, I don't know, like the fourth?
Yeah, just awful all around.
To the point where the charges
brought in Luis
Perez, who I
have never heard of.
And I went to Chargers Camp five days ago
he wasn't on the team. They literally signed him
for this game and he outplayed him. He went to,
Texas A&M
Commerce
which is a different school
the Texas A&M
the Texas A&M Commerce
Lions.
Luis Perez did better
than Easton Stick. He is
30 years old.
He's an XFL star guy.
He played in the XFL
and in the USFL.
I can't keep track of all these
extra football leagues.
The Texas A&M Commerce football team
is so bad that I Googled
Texas A&M Commerce
Commerce.
schedule and all the class registrar stuff came up.
That's that's their football program.
Oh my God.
Their first game this season is versus San Diego State.
Really?
Versus Craig.
Yeah, August 30 versus Texas name Congress is at San Diego State.
Craig.
They're playing Graham.
Oh, my God.
Sacramento State Lamar Prairie View.
Dude, UIW.
Do you do what you?
Oh, incarnate word.
I've heard of that.
That's the teams on the Texas A&M Commerce.
schedule. Anyway, he went to Southwestern
College for a while. Do you know where that is?
Southwestern College.
Yeah. New Mexico.
It is in Chula Vista, California.
Damn. Public Community College.
Here's my, the other one.
Have you ever heard of Casey Bowman?
No.
Casey Bowman is the quarterback who was the
originally third string on the charges. He didn't play.
Casey Bowman went to, first of all,
he is from Bellingham, Washington.
way. Yes.
Which is where you live.
Casey Bowman is from Bellingham and he went to Augustana.
Can you guess which, can you even guess what side of the Mississippi River Augustana is on?
I'm going to say east.
South Dakota.
Oh, damn.
Wait, was I right or not?
I can't.
Actually, now I don't know where.
Where is the Mississippi relative to the Dakotas?
Shit.
Oh, this is the most embarrassing.
is the thing of the show.
I think you're right.
South Dakota at Google Maps.
Let's see here.
Yeah,
I want to say,
so many people are screaming at us.
No,
it's west.
It's west.
Yeah,
okay.
That makes more sense.
It goes up in that general region,
for sure.
Dude,
I wanted everyone to know
who's screaming
and going to email us
at ringer fantasy football
at gmail.com.
We could have cut that.
Casey Bowman's from Bellingham
and I've never even heard of this guy.
Yeah.
Man.
So anyway,
the point being,
the charges are disgusting
because number one,
they had to turn
to Casey Balman
at Augustana.
And then two, they brought in Luis Perez 30 years old and he beat Easton Stick.
So if Justin Herbert isn't played, this team's fucking dead.
Ladd McConkey, Josh Palmer, all these arguments depend on Justin Herbert's foot being
fine.
It's fine.
It's just as plant foot for a quarterback.
We could go wrong.
I'm out.
Yeah.
All right.
Yeah, yeah.
Tough.
Lightning round, DK.
Just hit any other players you want to go through here.
So just a couple other guys.
Stets and Bennett, just want to shout out four interceptions in preseason.
Looked horrible.
Just want to shout it.
Just want to shout out.
I don't know.
I thought you were going to say something nice.
Just want to shout him out.
Looked horrible for interception.
He did make the game winning touchdown.
High Fitz.
Oh, cool.
Nice.
But yeah, not a great.
The arsonist put out the fire.
Cool.
Any other players you want to shout out?
Yeah, there's,
like obviously throughout the week weekend,
there was some guys that stood out.
I thought two rookie running backs were really interesting.
Actually, three.
Braylon Allen for the Jets was the first one I want to bring up because he is a,
He has entrenched himself as the number two back in New York.
Obviously, Breece is the number one guy by far.
Breeze Hall.
You know, I think he's going to be a top five pick probably in most drafts.
But if you want a handcuff, you want a really high-end handcuff,
I think Braylon Allen is the guy.
He might be one of my favorite handcuffs, in fact, coming into this year.
He looked really good in his first preseason action.
The fourth round rookie had six carries for 54 yards.
He's 6-1, 235.
He's a big bruiser.
And so I'm pretty excited about it.
him. He also had a catch, at least one catch.
But I remember the one catch he looked pretty solid on.
So that's exciting.
I thought for your Giants, Hyfitz, Tyrone Tracy,
starting, or sorry, playing in front of Eric Gray, another guy,
another guy they drafted last year was worth talking about because I think there's
enough of a chance Tracy could end up just being the starter of the team.
Devon Singletary is not like the type of guy who's just going to hold off anybody.
You know what I mean?
Devin Singletary's nickname is Motor, which means that they don't, they can't.
think of anything about his game other than he tries hard laser blazer yeah but i thought tracy
looked good i he impressed me in that game eric gray looked really good too in fact in fact but um
tracy broke a bunch of tackles he was running between the tackles he looked like a real solid
running back and i say that because he basically converted from receiver to running back in college um
and so you know i thought there was a lot to like about that and so he's another late round late round
guy that you might want to hang on to.
And then the third running back that I thought was very impressive was Jaylen Wright for the
Dolphins.
The dolphins are just so fast.
The fastest team in the world.
They're just on brand.
They have a bit and they stick to it.
It's incredible message consistency.
I mean, obviously Wright had a couple of plays that weren't like awesome, but he looked
very fast.
There's a couple of plays where he got to the edge and just beat guys around the corner.
He had one catch where he reversed the field and picked up a big play.
I think obviously A-chan and most are.
or the one, two, in this offense,
but if either of those guys goes down,
I could see Wright leapfrog over Jeff Wilson,
you know, midway through the year
and kind of just run with it.
So he was pretty interesting to me, too.
Everyone on the Dolphins is a cigarette boat.
Dude, they're so fast.
They're unbelievable.
Yeah, I think, I agree with having you said,
the one thing I want to shut up,
Braylon Allen, someone emailed us and said,
you guys have Breece Hall and Bison Robinson one, too,
but should the fact that Brees Hall plays on
the turf at Life Stadium be enough to knock him down.
And I'm like,
Maybe, but there you go.
There's your argument for Braylon Allen.
Yeah.
Greece Hall plays on turf.
So, Raylan Allen, you know, discount.
Okay.
Do you want to do some emails?
I do.
Actually, no, first, I want to reach you the schedule of Augustana.
Okay.
This is who Augustana played last year.
This is the Craig Whale.
Wait, where is it?
South Dakota, North Dakota.
Sue Falls.
I still need you to be more specific.
South Dakota.
Simpson.
Okay.
Week two, they played.
Elmhurst.
Wheaton.
Wheaton.
Carroll?
I've heard of Carroll College.
Milken.
Milken?
Milliken. Miliken.
Milliken.
Milliken.
Milliken.
Milliken.
Milliken.
Milliken.
M-I-L-L-L-I-K-I-N.
Not.
Milliken.
Washington, St. Louis.
Didn't know they had a football team.
That makes sense.
North Park.
That's like, it's like a community center.
They're just, they're in the
Illinois Wesleyan.
I don't think that's how you say it.
Was Salem?
No, it's Wesleyan.
Okay, maybe.
Maybe you're right.
I don't know.
No, it's W.E., yeah, it's Illinois Wesleyan.
Was Salem?
How did you say it?
I'm looking at the spelling.
Wesleyan.
Oh, no, I was thinking of something different.
Yeah, yeah.
Illinois Wesleyan, and then the best one next is Carthage.
Carthage.
Like, fucking.
You're going to be battling the Romans?
Wow.
Galfidge!
And then the last one,
senior day was North Central.
Another community center.
North Central.
And their bowl was the Culver's Isthmus Bowl.
They played UW Platfield.
Is that D3?
Dude, I don't know what division is.
It's like unsunging shit.
Anyway, all right, let's do some emails.
Emails.
All right.
So this one's from Luke.
Luke
See what I did there
Go up
Yeah of course you did
I am your father
Okay go
Oh I actually
I didn't see what he said
I don't actually
I'm trying to remember it
Because I feel like
It's been used so many times
In pop culture
I don't even actually remember
What the official
Like quote sounded like
Yeah I think it gets misquoted
More than it gets properly quoted
I actually do
Luke
Okay
So I said I could
If I had to pick a sport
to get a bronze medal in or I would die
would pick handball. And Luke
points out that USA has had a handball team
for 62 years and has never even
qualified for the Olympics.
I think this
this validates what I was saying.
Like it's a pretty big sport worldwide.
They're not
I don't know.
A lot of people on Twitter seem to be agreeing
with you that handball is the thing.
It's what you'd pick. I'd have to go to like Norway and get
citizenship probably. We had we had many many.
I work for Spotify.
We go Sweden.
There we go.
We had many, many people reach out to us and show us the video of the break dancer.
Yeah, it's obviously breaking.
Like, it's obviously, like clearly.
The video of the, I think it was a New Zealander or an Australian person doing.
He's Australians.
And I'm like, this is exactly how my five-year-old son dances.
Yeah.
I have a video of Calvin doing the exact same dance.
It's rare to, like, truly be an embarrassment to your country.
Oh, come on.
Is that harsh?
I mean, yes, it is harsh.
Are they represented their country?
I like to think Australians are pretty lighthearted and hilarious people.
So they probably think it's funny.
I'm just saying while representing your country, it was embarrassing.
That's all.
Well, obviously a lot of people, a lot of people of tag us and tweets that.
The other one I just want to shout out is this is, I think, you gov.
I don't know.
Someone did a poll.
The next Olympic Games.
are in LA in 2028.
Hypothetically speaking,
this is a poll question.
If you began training today,
which of the following sports
do you think you could qualify for?
27% of people in England
said they could qualify
for an Olympic sport.
Wow, that's way too many.
Which, to be clear,
that's not what we were saying.
We were saying we were going to die
if we didn't do it.
That's way too many.
Yeah.
One out of four people
said they could qualify.
Everyone used to chill.
And everyone picked air rifle shooting like Craig,
which is hilarious,
because you're so fucking wrong.
Yeah.
It's like 80 yards away.
Archery.
Archery,
it's like 150 yards.
High Fids,
Craig and I never said it was easy,
all right?
We said,
if you're talking about
the physical requirements
to be an Olympian,
shooting is low on the list.
That's why I picked him.
Like,
I could never be an Olympic sprinter
or a swimmer or a gymnast
or any sport
that requires a physical aptitude.
I don't know.
That's all.
I'm just saying,
you don't have to be an elite athlete athlete
to be a shooter.
This one's from Marshall.
Marsh.
The hate you guys are receiving for thinking you can compete in Olympic events
pales in comparison to the hate that Craig should be receiving
for thinking he can kill an ostrich with his bare hands.
Need I remind you all of the Great Emu War of 1932
where the nation of Australia armed with Lewis machine guns lost to the emo.
Oh my God.
I got to hear more about this.
Yeah.
Lost to the Emo Wars.
They signed like a, they sue for peace.
Yeah, Australia fought the emails.
Emus won.
Not really.
They sent like a hunting expedition out.
They didn't really do much.
Evers no one.
What?
Eating all the farmland.
I don't know.
If you're Australia,
email's the ring of fantasy football at gmail.com, but the great email.
Dude, if you get to survive in Australia, you're tough as fuck.
All the animals there.
Really tough.
Even those cute, cuddly little koalas.
Well.
They have rock hard skulls.
So you can't knock them out.
Yeah, awful animals, but hard skulls.
It's awful.
They're awful animals.
They're cute, though.
Very few neurons.
Maybe that's an advantage.
Maybe that's a good thing.
Ignorance is bliss.
It's simpler life.
That's true.
So people listen to the show, you know?
Yeah, just not many neurons going on here.
No much stuff firing.
All right.
Thank you, everyone for listening.
Thank you, K.
Thank you, Craig, who's here in spirit.
Thank you, Kai and Jack, for help behind the scenes.
Thank you for listening.

We cover the whole season, regular NFL, everything, make fun of Jerry Jones for being old,
all that jazz.
Thank you, Lord.
Thank you, Tupac.
Wow.
Nice.
You like Tupac?
I do.
I mean, I won't lie.
You know, I wasn't there for the, um, when he was actually doing stuff.
Right.
Yeah, obviously like Tupon.
Right.
You respect that he did stuff, though.
Hit him up was so angry.
Like, I think that for all, like Kendrick, like,
Before Kendrick did the thing, like this summer, the visceral hatred, it hit him up is pretty unbelievable.
Yeah, I can see that.
Tubak, man, he has some great ones.
Can't see me.
Ooh, that's a good one.
Heifitz looked that one up.
Can't see me.
I know that song.
My favorite, I mean, I think California love, it's very, you know, as a basic white 22-year-old man when I moved to Los Angeles.
You know, I'm not claiming to be some, like, fucking.
hipster here.
Right.
Like, you know, also changes.
I actually think changes is my favorite Tupac song.
That's a good one.
That one's like probably one of his more famous ones.
How do you want it?
I'm not going to lie.
I don't have any deep cut Tupac songs.
How do you want it?
I feel like that one.
Shorty want to be a thug is another good one.
Man, there's so many that just like remind me so much of my high school years.
You're just like seventh grade or like 11th grade on the bus.
Listen to like ambitions as a rider.
like listening to it
on my way to the basketball game
to get pumped up.
Yeah.
Good shit.
Is this the whitest conversation
we've ever had on the show?
By far.
At least I think I feel like we've been saying all this
tongue and cheek a little bit
because we have guys we're idiots.
But yeah.
You think he's dead?
Yeah.
Yeah, me too.
I do.
Goodbye, everyone.
