Like one of those little skinny ties? Like the like, you know what I'm saying? What do you call those ties? I thought they were just called skinny ties. Well, I mean, they used to wear them in the 50s.

Starting point is 00:04:20 Whatever it is for Ben, Big Cah, Big Cah, Lindberg. Did y'all see what happened outside Marathon Burger? No. Oh, no. Y'all didn't see that? No, I didn't see that. I'm not going to name no names just because, you know, I'm not in the middle of it. But somebody tried to go to Nipsey's Marathon Burger, and they got pushed out of the
Starting point is 00:04:39 Marathon Burger because of some shit that was going on. When I watched that, all I could think about was if Ben Lindbergh was there. No, Big Cunning that slide. If Big Cud not lay that slide. If it would have been big Cun, if it would have been Big Cun, that would have been. Be careful, Steve. Dog, first episode of March and Steve already on some shit, bro.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Yes. This week. On the ring of race, me. Negroes. The Brits are not. with the entire family. On Friday,
Starting point is 00:05:20 Buttonmash brings you their look at split fiction. Yeah. Is that what he asked me to do? No, that's what he asked me to do. Okay, cool. And on the House of Our Feed,
Starting point is 00:05:30 it will bring you their deep dive on the season premiere of Daredevil Born Again. But on today's show, we're going to give you our instant reactions shooting from the hippie-boo
Starting point is 00:05:42 to the season premiere of Daredevil Born again. Let's get the show. writing to it with spoilers. Spoiler warning, should I say, for Daredevil, the MCU, and everything as related to this title. Steve.
Starting point is 00:05:56 We're getting ready to talk about you're listening to a reaction podcast. The spoilers are coming. Chuck, take away. All right, this is your midnight manifest for Daredevil born again, a revival of the 2015 Netflix series starred Charlie Cox and Vincent Dinoffrio,
Starting point is 00:06:24 showrunner, Dario, Cardapan lead directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, I believe it's Moor Night Fame, two episode premiere, first directed by Moorhead and Justin Benson, written by Scardapan, and the second episode directed by Michael Questa and written by Matt Corman and Chris Ford. All right, so Matt Murdoch, Fawke-Nelson, and Karen Page celebrate a night on the town with drinks at a local watering hole when Bullseye shows up to ruin the party. Bullseye slaughters numerous people in the bar, which culminates in him murdering Fawke Nelson.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Matt throws Bullseye off a roof in the process revealing his identity, retired NYPD officer Cherry. In the present, Matt has retired from his life as Daredevil and has formed a new law firm with former NY Assistant VA Kirsten McDuffie. He's also estranged from one-time colleague and girlfriend Karen Page and starting to date a therapist named Heather Glenn. Unfortunately, Matt feels the mask calling his Wilson Fiss makes a successful bid for the mayor of New York.
Starting point is 00:07:18 The Kingpin's criminal enterprise is now run by his wife, Vanessa, along with a boy named Daniel Blake that seems to have a murky connection to the crime boss. It's during a case defending an actor Ayala, aka vigilante white tiger, that Matt uncovers a corrupt segment of the police force who seems tied to the punisher in an effort to save the sole witness that could help free Ayala. Matt is attacked by two officers responsible for the white tiger's imprisonment. Matt loses his temper and potentially kills one of the officers. Matt has been your midnight manifest with the first two episodes of Daredevil porn again. Then I'm going to start off with you. After what, a seven year, almost eight year wait for the return of Daredevil, Darebear?
Starting point is 00:07:54 How are you feeling? I enjoyed it. Two things suck out to me. Obviously, a lot of people are going to be shocked by the death of foggy Nelson. Looking back on it. Damn, spoiler alert. We're here. What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:08:07 It happened in the first five minutes of the show, too. You can't, if you start this show. If you start this show, it's going to be pissed. They'll be like, bans. By the time we finished this sentence, he will have died in the show. You just fucking said in the manifest that spot. Oh, I did a spoiler.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Is your brain okay? Don't. Don't. Oh, my head's pickles. Like, like, um, So a lot of people are going to be shocked about the death of Foggin-Elson. Looking back, looking at it now, the way they're going about the show, they had to kill Foggy. They almost probably would have had to kill Foggy and Karen to me with the way that they're going about the show, the place that Matt's in right now.
Starting point is 00:08:39 I'll say two things before we get into the meat of it, not take too much oxygen. It is interesting in the way that they're going about the show this time as opposed to the last time. The last time they spent legitimately an entire first season building the characters of Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdoch, as we will come to know. We learned in like incrementally they babysept us through who Wilson Fisk was. And they used that entire season to ground us in the reality of Hell's Kitchen, of all the machinations and all of that stuff. They're doing it the exact opposite way now. they're getting you to the point. Like, if they were doing it the same way they would have done in the first season,
Starting point is 00:09:26 it would have taken this entire season for Fitz to become mayor. Now, that motherfucker mayor, like, he's married like halfway through the first episode. Like, they're getting right to the point, which tells me that the first two episodes of this aren't particularly indicative of the story that they want to tell, like, in the totality of it, because they fast-tracked it. So they're trying to literally, in a way, I think it worked, but get what they have to tell you out of the way.
Starting point is 00:09:57 They had some constraints being with the fact that the last time we saw Fisk, he had got shot in his face. If Fiske would have been running for mayor, if they would have used Echo or even Hawkeye to show us that Fiske was already mayor or that he was running for mayor, they may have been able to get around doing something that they had to do. But that one conversation between Daredevil and Fisk in the premiere episode is by far the most important scene of either one or two. So can I ask you this? Because I watching this, I feel like similar to Captain America, Braven World, I could see the scenes in terms of just like maybe the show that they wanted to make before they did the pivot and the new show. And when you said, like, these two episodes might not be indicative of what we get. I enjoyed these first two episodes, but there was a feeling of them almost having their foot in two worlds where it's just like, all right, we're going to give you foggy and we're going to give you Karen and we're going to give you this feeling of what you know. And then we're going to completely pivot to match a new world with Cherry, with McDuffie, the new law firm, everything.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Do you feel these first two episodes were their way of trying to kind of like massage the material that they kind of had to use, the action set pieces, some of the different things? with where they're obviously going. Because to me, the Matt Wilson Fisk conversation, I was like, oh, this is the real show that you guys are trying to make. There's just a lot of like table setting you kind of have to get. Of course.
Starting point is 00:11:25 They, first of all, beyond us talking about this right now, these are two good episodes of television. And let me tell you what's really, really promising. Is the second episode doesn't have Daredevil any. Oh, yeah. And to me, it's slightly stronger than the first one. I like the second episode. So the fact that the story that they are building can tread its own water without throwing in your capes and you're swinging around and all of that stuff, that bodes well for how we're going to enjoy this show going forward.
Starting point is 00:12:04 However, to your point, yeah. To your point, let's start them back off where we left off. let's talk about this, let's get them into a world that they remember, and then let's pull them out of that world. Let's shock them out of it. Even the familiar very close-in claustrophobic fight, we get another one of those, brutal, dark, same way you remembered it from the Netflix thing.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Then the death of foggy just yanks you out of that. And now, after that happens, you're ready for something. Yeah. Yeah, I think that was. I think that was the point of the operation. It makes you feel they start off with Nelson, Murdoch, and Page. You're out there. You're with you.
Starting point is 00:12:45 It's like you with your friends again. And then, blam, guy gets one right through the heart and it's over. I think the moment, though, that is, we haven't talked about it yet, is when Matt pushes a bullseye off the roof. Right? Like, that's the moment, I think, where it, at least for me, kind of shifted, because I'm not going to sit here and act like, I thought, I thought our guy. would survive the whole season. Figure like either one of foggy or camera get out of here by the time we're done here.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I didn't think it happened this early. But this was not like shocking to me. I think the shocking part was Matt literally like, all right, well, I ain't got nothing else. That was the shocking part? Well, that's actually like a very, it's a very good indication of how this show is going to operate when it comes to Matt's potential arc,
Starting point is 00:13:32 because now we understand what the born-again subtitle is. We're like, we would assume that by the end of the season, he's going to probably become Daredevil in earnest in some form or fashion. I think way before then. Likely that. But it's the fact that he had been away from the Cape for so long because he crossed a line personally
Starting point is 00:13:50 where he attempted to kill Bullseye because he didn't care at that point. The fact that Foggy died and he was just like as careless with Bullseye's life as he would be anybody else, that's the line that actually stopped him from being Daredevil. Not the fact that Foggy died, but because he was willing to kill somebody because that line
Starting point is 00:14:06 was crossed for him. Another, with Wilson Fisk now in charge of things, he's, you have two guys that are trying to reconcile their past. It's very interesting. One guy trying to reconcile his past as a criminal, the other trying to reconcile his past as a hero. And where those two paths come together, when there are new threats, Mews, who we know is coming. Fisk, who has a specific problem with masks, will Spider-Man, Easter egg in there for you guys I like to jerk off to the Easter eggs
Starting point is 00:14:40 and everything. But knowing that those two guys are like on a head-on collision and like which version of them will they be when we get there is pretty interesting already and you know they're dropping some hits until when the punishment will drop into this whole thing.
Starting point is 00:14:56 I like what I think I like the most about especially these two episodes because you got you mentioned the pace of how much table setting is established in the first two episodes. It's a perfect balance of being expository while also informing us a lot about where people are for their characters. Knowing that Matt is not being Daredevil for an entire year and we're just like kind of left with him being at his own devices, starting the law firm, starting to date casually again,
Starting point is 00:15:25 starting to kind of figure out what a post-foggy life is, knowing that Karen's pretty much out of the picture. She's away. She's moved to San Francisco. This kind of a reset on paper when we were like, oh, when we initially heard that Foggy or Karen weren't going to be in this show, we immediately hated it. But under this context, this actually kind of works very well because we actually get to allow space
Starting point is 00:15:48 for a new map that we can get to learn to the entirety of this season can grow and flourish into a new and interesting story with the idea that the MCU is going to be existing around him. And with other catalysts as well. Yes. Well, honestly, I think
Starting point is 00:16:03 I enjoyed the first two episodes, but I I think episodes, but I think the tension for me is honestly I didn't like the beginning. I didn't like how the show started in terms of just like, because it like throws you in. And that wasn't the difficult part for me. It was almost like they're still working out the kinks of who MCU Daredevil is. I felt like when he was swinging, it didn't look kind of great. I think the fight with bullseye kind of looked a little bit corny. I was just like, this kind of feels a little bit rushed.
Starting point is 00:16:34 and even the new law firm was kind of like, it's not a dark, it's not the boots on the ground law firm anymore. No, it's in like a loft apartment. Yeah, it's only, it's just a new girl apartment. It's more so like Daredevil's appearance in Shee Hulk than did the Netflix show. That's your Daredevil. And it's not entirely that, but I can see.
Starting point is 00:16:56 It is more than it is. Yeah. But here's the thing. This is why I would push back a little bit. And then once you start getting those scenes of whether it's like this, and Murdoch talking at the diner or when Matt goes to the apartment and fights the cops,
Starting point is 00:17:11 I was just like, I'm still kind of scratching my head because those are the moments I like. Those are the moments that reminded me of the old series, dramatically, thematically, all of these things that kind of got me in there. And it's weird because you already kind of brought it up.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I was like, the second episode to me is so much stronger, but Daredevil's not in it. And that's the thing where I think that the show I'm waiting for, because even some of the white tiger, stuff when he's in the suit. I'm like, that was bad. It's tough, but I'm like,
Starting point is 00:17:38 I'm compelled by who White Tiger is. No, I'm compelled by the storyline. It's the, it's the costume part of who I'm like, oh, this is my thing, right? About any of these shows, any of them. The costuming superhero stuff should always be the easiest stuff to do.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Hey, he's swinging around, he's beating people up. To me, if, like, you're only ever going to get Daredevil in three scenes for maybe. If the, if him out of the suit works, your show will work. Even if the dare, I would rather have the, the daredevil stuff be weaker than the Matt Murdoch stuff.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I'm with you. That's why I'm not coming here like usual. Because I was like, by the end of the second episode, I had the feeling of, oh, I want to watch the third. And that came from Charlie Cox performance, the anger, all of that where I'm just like, all right. Meaningful scenes. Yeah, like, if they flub on some of the daredevil shit, I'm a,
Starting point is 00:18:34 that they might get a little bit more right in the second season. But in terms of like the meat of the show, the, the emotion of it, I thought that that tenor that they hit was really good. I was entertained by that. So, Steve, we were talking about this before. What question did you have about the Netflix show? I think there's a big like conversation. I'm actually kind of proud of the show for being in conversation with the prior seasons of
Starting point is 00:19:00 Daredevil. Like it not only is it just like the cast and everything up front. But it's very much in conversation, circling around that FISC conversation about like it's tough to fight a violent nature, don't become what you once were, become something different. This show is very much aware of the fact that there were three seasons of a very well-beloved show that it's not only trying to emulate, but build off of. And my main concern was, okay, well, are we, is a lot of the enjoyment in like substance that you're, you're going to get out of this show, required viewing for those previous three seasons. And I'm still kind of struggling with that
Starting point is 00:19:40 because I can't erase those three seasons from my mind, but I can't imagine a world where I came to this show cold and enjoyed these first two episodes as much as I did. Yeah, I mean, yes, because it doesn't work. I don't be talking about this before. It doesn't work if you're like, man, I can't wait to watch Daredevil for the first time, Deird Ever Born Again, Bet, and then Foggy Die,
Starting point is 00:20:03 you're like, who is he? Why does this matter? What's the guy showing him? Like, I understand why you, if you came in blind, you wouldn't get the same fulfillment of people who have watched the first three seasons. But I don't think if you watch the first, if you watch dead on Netflix once, I think you're straight. Well, I think the funny thing about the show is
Starting point is 00:20:25 foggy and color trying to have their cake and eat it too, where they're trying to basically be like, no, no, no, the other show happened. Here, we're going to give you a little foggy. We're going to give you a little Karen. And then very quickly, all of Matt's supporting cast is, besides Kingpin, is just fucking gone.
Starting point is 00:20:43 And they give you the teasers for like, oh, Kingpin didn't show up in Hawkeye, did show up in Echo, but it's like one, two pastes out of the face. And then they're like, all right, we on some new shit. And I do think that I get why they did it, at least in the pilot episode, I was a little bit like, who the fuck is all these muff?
Starting point is 00:21:02 I don't care about it. Bring my people. I was like, why are we listening to this cop and the retiree? Yeah. I was like, who are you? Well, I mean, it paid off because, you know, like, Cherry's important to the operation. But yeah, first I'm like, who's that? What it was going? I don't know either of these two people.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Yeah. I know Foggie. He was talking to McDuffie. I get that. He was trying to spit his game to his thing. Who are these two people? Why do I care about what they're up to the whole thing? Can you have a question about that?
Starting point is 00:21:27 I get it. I understand the sentiment. But in the pilot of a show, don't you expect to meet. new characters? No, it's very true. And this is coming from the bias of us loving those first three seasons, be like, okay, we want Foggy and Karen and Matt. And that's just going to be the show. But then we're like already getting introduced to these new things that are like, oh, well, we don't know who this is. What are we? And it makes sense. But is this, but is this, and this is the thing that I think the show doesn't know yet. Is this a new, is this a continuing series of the Daredevil
Starting point is 00:21:58 adventures? Or is this like, because it seems like at some points, they designed this show to be like, this is kind of the Daredevil you remember, but this is our MCU Daredevil, let's go. And then they kind of backtracked a little bit. And I think those tensions to me are the, like,
Starting point is 00:22:15 they want to satisfy the old band base, but also satisfy people who are just like, oh, Daredevil, like cool, new people, whatever. Like, forget about the past. I think they're trying to make a new, their initial idea was to flush their old show. Yeah. And we didn't like that.
Starting point is 00:22:31 Right. And the reason why we didn't like that. we didn't like the idea of flush in the old show is because it's an odd idea to bring back the same actor and then the same villain and then flush the old show. It just doesn't make a shit ton of sense.
Starting point is 00:22:45 It's one of those things that to me is indicative of the creative issue that Marvel was having. Right. Because who would say, do that? That's half-stepping
Starting point is 00:23:01 to the nth degree. If you're going to bring daredevil back, then bring daredevil back. If you're going to do more daredevil stuff in a new world, with new stuff, then do new stuff. But you can't bring the same actor back and then just tell a whole news.
Starting point is 00:23:20 It's confusing to the audience. It unnecessarily complicates things. It makes no sense to do it that way. It's dumb. And that's the biggest thing where I'm like, okay, what really do we need to know for a good Daredevil show to actually honestly, we know all we need to know.
Starting point is 00:23:37 And we do. It's like, okay. That was my point. His friend was killed. Yeah. Can't move on. Yeah, that's it. Like, it's, it's cool. Now, you got a little bit of work to do with your new Kingpin, your, your differences. He's lost weight.
Starting point is 00:23:53 More muscle mass. Atkins diet. Okay? All of that. Is King Ping on a little Zip? I read some way that he's, Intermitt fasting. Intermittent fasting. They were saying that he's wearing,
Starting point is 00:24:04 Vincent DiNafio's wearing a fat suit. Like, he usually would, like, bulk up for it. In the original season of when we first saw him as Kingpin, he put on a lot of weight. I'm not talking about Donofio. He's been in basically his whole career. I'm talking about right now, the Kingpin zip out. He was in prison.
Starting point is 00:24:21 He was getting jacked out. No, no, he got shot in the face. Right. So you can't get the same nutrients, you know what I'm saying? You're not eating like you was eating before. All right, Dr. Joe Liquid diet. I'm just saying, yeah. Don't take medical advice from the midnight boys.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Do not. You still getting shot from the face means you can't take the nutrients. I'm not saying. I'm just saying, right, you're not eating the same. Like, he was not. I don't know what he was eating before. But when you laid up in the hospital for a long time, you're not like, yo, let me get the Big Mac double.
Starting point is 00:24:48 You know what I'm saying? Sorry, this is this needs to be a new segment. We need to get Jomey in a lab coat and a stethoscope. All I'm saying is people go in the hospital, right? They spend in a long time in the hospital. You know, you think he was in hospital. You got shot on the face. You got shot on the eyeball.
Starting point is 00:25:02 I assume he was there for a quick minute. Okay. All I'm saying is it doesn't matter. If he had to hit the zippy, zippy shot one time a hippie. Oh, we know. We know. Judging him. It's cool.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Yeah. But even that, when I saw him, he looks noticeably different. Yeah. Aesthetically, this is a brighter show. The other show was almost never in the day. I was like, what the fucking is. There's a lot of style going on. I hate their new law for him.
Starting point is 00:25:28 It, because it felt very bravo. To me, where I was just like, Bravo. Yeah, it felt very, like. Where's Rachel? Like, very suits. It's not all made of glass. There's like some, like, frames and doors there. There was some moments where I'm just like, all right, get this shit out of the day.
Starting point is 00:25:42 You're talking about it. I need my fucking dark house kitchen. Because they make jokes about it where they're just like, you know, Hell's Kitchen. It's not what it used to be. Like, which is true. Gentrified. They got House kitchen.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I don't know. I did like when Netflix was just like, yeah, we just going to lie and make this shit seem like as Brownsville. Sorry for anybody who's brats. God damn Sorry Wow Now come back to New York
Starting point is 00:26:05 Like that Chuck Tough So I do like the fact That the Thrust of the first two episodes Is that Matt Just can't stop helping Yeah
Starting point is 00:26:18 Whatever The heroness Is what our boy Is about He's somewhere He hears Daredevally Hearing of footsteps
Starting point is 00:26:28 Always a good I love that I love the dare. I love the dare. I can hear the footsteps. When he catches his girlfriend. When he hears that Fisk 1, like all of that stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:40 It's that great thing in the beginning where, like, the frame widens when there's more sound and then it narrows in when he hears foggy on the phone. I'm like, ooh, this is really fun. That was nice. That was nice. That was nice.
Starting point is 00:26:49 They did the thing when he first meets the therapist, where we don't even, you know, there's no tricks. There's no camera. It's literally just like, yeah, you're from Queens. I do you know you try to shorten your A's and your O's and I was like this is guys got it Powers is legit I was oh oh when he when he did that I was like all right man this is a little
Starting point is 00:27:11 crazy guys you guys a question this daredevil know when a lady is down the fuck yes yeah he can smell the thing yeah he can smell your heart beating so he can so I mean but like take the whole she-hoke so episode I know but like what kind of power would that be Like, that would be such, that would be the most, if you, that's, that, that's the most problematic power that like a man. And this is where. Could have. Because, because, because think about it, you never know. The not knowing a lot of times keeps you in line.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Which is the level of ancientness that Matt Murdoch has to possess. I honestly think Stevie Wonder used to have this. Steve Wonder still got it. That's why people think he can see. That's why, that's why Stevie Wonder got so many different children and all of that stuff like that. Wonders, the only thing that Stevie Wonder can see is the ass.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Here, that shit happened to Ray too, don't you? Yeah. Not the Piero Kee-T. No, here's the thing, here's the thing. Stevie Bia. They don't have a bad bitch radar. Like, he can't tell when a joint walk through.
Starting point is 00:28:14 He's like, oh, Daredevil. It was, shameless. I'm not going to lie. He was shameless because she showed up and they were like, oh, man, she said a sub. Oh, this is, whatever. You know what's stay.
Starting point is 00:28:25 But anyway, the Riz, the Riz was too much. Yeah, yeah. You know, he's, you know, he's, stayed because he smelled the pheromones, bro. He knew. Daredevil knew. He's shameless. Daredevil sitting out talking about the... Yeah, devil, he smelled the fairmoles.
Starting point is 00:28:40 He's like, I'm not leaving. You know what I'm saying? I'm already here. Since we're here. I'm picking it up. I'm picking the whole thing up. What a crazy. Daredevil could actually just use his powers for that.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Like, if he didn't care about... And see, this is the thing. If he didn't care about, like, helping people, he could literally just be out here like Nick Cannon. Elon Musk. Well, that's the thing. When he was Daredevil, he's... Oh, I got to say something.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Nick you off the hook. Nick Cannon? Yes. He's off the hook. Why? Because I have a thought. The only reason why Nick Cannon takes the brunt of the criticism for having lots of children,
Starting point is 00:29:25 for having an impregnation, station is because of what it looks like Nick is a black man and all of that stuff Elon Musk is having a new one every week Here's what's worse Here's what's worse
Starting point is 00:29:43 They come to attack our black kings But all I see on Matiel is Elon's baby mama's having to hit him up through Twitter I'm like bro You're so easy where you at Brides people Hey, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Oh my God. Nick be at birthdays. Nick is a dad. Elon is a guy. Like, he literally is a guy. Like, these kids can't even call Elon dad. Like, that's a guy with children. Literally, Elon, the kid is sick.
Starting point is 00:30:16 We have been trying to get in touch with you. Hire someone to do. The dude is worth $300 billion. Don't want to pay child support, though. Bro, he could, like, create a father of good. Zar at SpaceX. Make a robot that does it. He could make a robot, bro.
Starting point is 00:30:33 He could, he literally could build a compound. You mean a home. No, not a home. That's not a home. Not for those kids. He could build a village for all of these kids to live in together with great schools, nutrition and doctors and all of that. And he's just out here, wilding.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Get off Nick. Nick is out of here. Nick is involved. He's an involved father He is It's right now It's Elon Oh
Starting point is 00:31:04 My bad You didn't see the TikTok We had changed We had changed The dynamic You brought it back We had changed We had changed
Starting point is 00:31:13 We had solved it We had solved it You got You're right You're right You're right You're right You brought it back
Starting point is 00:31:19 Um Fisk clear out Chuck Honestly I've been on record saying It's not my favorite performance. But once again, when I think about why I enjoy these first two episodes, I do think
Starting point is 00:31:36 it is a level of, like, just, I don't know, just they're bringing it. I think Charlie Cox, Vincent DiNafrio, any single time old elements of this show popped up. I'm like, when they were in the diner scene, I think it is one of it, not the best. It seems in a Disney Plus show. I've seen, it was just, all right, this is electric. It's so aware of what we know and love and to know what its actors are good at operating at. And it's also the superhero thing that I... Nothing, go ahead. I interrupted again.
Starting point is 00:32:07 I got too excited. I do it. What you guys say? I'm fine. I get too excited. I cannot remain silent. Can we be seen? I'm just...
Starting point is 00:32:20 I do it. It was him. It was it. Also, getting back on track, I will say, my favorite superhero trope, Why do you like this, man? Can we please? Can we please?
Starting point is 00:32:39 I'm happy. I'm sorry. Can we pod, please? What, what did just be? It was so funny. What, when I said I got too excited? Because I'm sorry about this.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Guys. It's not like I'm being mean about it. I'm another podcast. It was so sincere. Oh, my God. It was so sincere. I'm fucking around. I always say my favorite superhero trope in anything.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Batman and Joker have it. Daredevil and Kingsman have it, where it's just like, I don't know what it is about certain characters, but Kingpin even says something to the effect of like these guys are addicted to their dynamic, to each other, their worldviews.
Starting point is 00:33:23 There was this chemistry between them where it's like, they need each other almost to survive. And I'm just like, once the show got that nugget, of their relationship right? I'm like, all right, they can fuck up this, that, and the third, but if that's the colonel that you're always going to be returning to,
Starting point is 00:33:39 it says it's not unpleasant to see. Like, I miss this. Like, you know what I mean? It's not unpleasant to see you. I love that shit. How they had a scene like that, particularly in the past where things were almost jovial?
Starting point is 00:33:54 It's not jovial. It's not jovial. It's like they're both at like a stalemate where they're like, uh-huh, all right. Well, you might try to fuck over the city. I'm not going to try to be Daredevil again. It's this like Mexican standoff where they're like,
Starting point is 00:34:05 okay, nobody's going to make a move. So I guess just watch it. Well, it's really like, I don't trust you. You don't trust me. But at this particular moment, neither of us, like, I need to fight each other. So as long as we can keep that straight, will be good.
Starting point is 00:34:20 But then even at the end, it's kind of like, you step out of line, big dog, I'm going to be there. And he's like, if you put on that mask again, I'm going to be there. So just know, next time, either one of us thing we were there for each other that's kind of like that right you might kiss a little bit
Starting point is 00:34:35 it's kind of like it's a really funny dynamic you mentioned it like Joker Batman and the Lego Batman movie they flip it instead of like I hate it's like they want to be nemesis so bad Joker wants to be Batman's nemesis so bad right and they have this
Starting point is 00:34:51 they played almost like romantic yeah right it's like I hate you oh instead of saying I love you are you fighting other people on the side exactly right And this is this dynamic in this show What are you laughing about?
Starting point is 00:35:07 Bro, Lego Batman is so stupid, bro. It's so great. I love that shit. I love it. Remember when Batman was eating lobster thermodore? Yeah, he's like, you know what he's watching the video?
Starting point is 00:35:19 He's watching Cherry. It's so funny. Like, I laugh my fucking hand off. It's got the funniest joke in Batman history, at least to me, where he's like, the kids at the orphanage call me, call me dick.
Starting point is 00:35:30 That's very rude of them to say that. Also, this is a nitpick. But when the kids started spray-painted Wilson-Fisk fucking faces on all right. That's like, motherfuckers like spray-painting Eric Adams on building. That was the thing I was weirded about because I'm not from New York. I'm not going to claim New York in any sense of the matter. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:55 The mayor's, it's not being, y'all don't really like your mayors out there like that, you know, de Blasio. I'm not, I'm not, no my spray painting, Bill de Blasio. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's not really. We're getting real Trumpy with this kind of representation of Fis. We're like, we got a fiscal fix it hat. You got people cheering out in the streets.
Starting point is 00:36:14 I mean, look, the comment. Um, comic books always beat the world to that stuff. Yeah. They do. And I'm like, I'm, like, I'm curious as to how, like, it feels a little on the nose. I mean, I'm not mad about it. I just think it's more, like, it's very aware. Totally get you.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Only thing I'm saying is like it does have a reference point in a comic book, you know, Luther, all of that stuff. These guys, I always like commentary on gentlemen that exists as shady businessman, like guys like Joker and fucking the Rittler, you know, not with Sandy. Guys who exists, who have a public face being able to launder that public's face and achieve like mainstream success. because it happens so often. It doesn't happen in the glitzy roles all the time like mayor or like president, but people that have military scandals or people that are involved in all kinds of stuff like that, they get recycled and given to the public as public servants so often that it almost is cool. It's almost like only the comic book reader knows what a bastard Lex Luthor is.
Starting point is 00:37:23 It's almost like only the people that are watching what's happening between, between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk actually know the degree to which Wilson Fisk is an asshole. And it makes us more intimate with our hero and it puts the person walking around Hell's Kitchen a little bit more. They don't even know what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:37:43 I mean, even his girlfriend is kind of just like, bro, what is what? She's back. Oh, yeah. It's like, why do you love Wilson Fis? To be fair, that's some shit that would happen in the real world when you, like, dating someone who's really in a policy. Like, what are you an AOC? What are you? What's this AOC shit you got going on?
Starting point is 00:37:59 It's like it's just mayor. It's it. Um, Vanessa. Interesting. She's my, Vanessa. Vanessa. Vanessa.
Starting point is 00:38:07 So Queen Pisk comes into Vanessa running a five families meeting. It looks as if the five families are at odds with each other, but she was able to squash it pretty easily. So they do a good job. in that scene of showing that she has control over them. He walks in, they get up and they leave.
Starting point is 00:38:32 What's the dynamic? What's happening? So she, because she kind of says basically, like, I don't know, I remember what she says, but it was something to the effect of like, why do you little bro me? I have it under control because it seems like when he was in prison, Vanessa almost has the entire underworld
Starting point is 00:38:49 at a, at a calm stance to. They're all making money. and I think when Wilson walks through, it's him saying, like, the quiet part out loud is, no, you're great at your job, you're great at managing my empire. But the reason that everyone's listened to you is because they fear me.
Starting point is 00:39:08 She wasn't running things on his behalf. She was running things unilaterally at this point? Yeah. Yeah. I took it as he hasn't touched the crime side. Right. Since. Well, I mean, I think they explicitly mentioned it's like,
Starting point is 00:39:22 I have to divest myself from this whole thing. When for me, you can't get caught up in all this stuff, right? So it has to make like a clean break. So she was more pragmatic than most Marys. Right. Yeah. So she was legitimately like running the business by herself for a minute. Well, she said it was wife. Well, no, but I'm, yeah, but.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Yeah. A wife at this point. Yeah, they had to go to therapy, man. I'm actually, I'm actually, for their lives over there. I'm fascinated by that. I'm fascinated that they go to therapy because it, it also is this interesting thing that the show wants to lean into their dynamic a bit more. And they're not afraid of like kind of pushing off. Because Vanessa could have just as easily been pushed away to the side and she's like the hidden money. That's all.
Starting point is 00:40:05 That's all that she technically could have been in the show. But instead it's like something that's very important to him to not fuck up. He doesn't want to lose that. And desperately enough to, A, want to sit down and talk about it and hear out why she's lonely when he was away, not respected enough, and how that might blow up in his face, because that was kind of the ethos for him ever since we've known.
Starting point is 00:40:30 So this is where you talk about, like, the scenes of the show, you kind of see it. At the end of the first episode, they mentioned Allen. It's like, hey, I know about Alan. And she's like, cool. And we're like, who the hell's out? I made no Alan, right?
Starting point is 00:40:47 And then later in the second episode, Fiss got Bloody Knuckles. and then they're at marriage counseling. Right? And so there seems to be something there that is alluding to some infidelity in the relationship. She absolutely stepped out. Right. And then they have to go get marriage counseling.
Starting point is 00:41:05 But like, I would have liked to see more. I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused. I was like, I wasn't confused as hell. No. Yeah. If you don't know, I thought I, bro, I legitimately would like, I scrolled back. I was like, did, did it? Did we see him Alan?
Starting point is 00:41:21 Am I tweaking? No. The show has that style, though. There's another scene when, um, whenever he's going back and forth with police commissioner who needs to get on his side. And the police commissioner is brought into his office. Then they show a picture of a woman and a kid. Right.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Yeah. Oh, I was like, who the fuck is that? Yeah. What's just going on? I mean, it resolves itself. But when it first happened, I was like, I was like, okay. What does that mean to me? I read that wrong because I thought he was like actively threatening his wife and child.
Starting point is 00:41:55 Same. It was. And then when he said he thought he could keep that child. It's a house like, oh. Oh, he got to push your tea. Yeah. You are hiding a child, bro. We talk about you are hiding a child.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Okay, so look, I have a problem with that scene for another reason. It's a good thing. Is it the cheese steak? Yes. I know. I know. Okay, two things. Number one, I got to get Charles's cheese steak situations, right?
Starting point is 00:42:18 because temple and then also where you lived at in Jersey. You got to get your cheese steak, your cheese steak, okay? All right. Two things I have a problem with. So I've been to Philly. I go to Philly. I went to Philly,
Starting point is 00:42:29 I went to Philly. I went to Philly. I went to Philly. One of the greatest cities in there. Okay, I went to Philly. I would ask people when I went to Philly where to go to the cheese steak at, right? And people in Philly would tell me,
Starting point is 00:42:45 some people would tell me specific places, Jim's Ishkabili. all of these different places, whatever, the DeAngelo's places they mentioned, all of these places. But they would specifically tell me do not go to Gino's or to Pats. Yes, this is a big thing.
Starting point is 00:43:02 They would specifically tell me, some people would be like, hey, there are certain places you can go where they can't get it wrong. Let me tell you where not to go. So when I watch the show and then they mention Gino's, it makes it feel, when shows do stuff like that,
Starting point is 00:43:17 it's so weird. It makes it feel like the writer's not really locked me. No, but actually, I flip that around. Maybe that's the Wilson Fisk, New York Born and Raise. I'm actively insulting you by saying, no, this of course is the good one. The known bad one. Also, I will have to say, as someone who, like, I don't enjoy cheese steaks as a sandwich. Jesus Christ, I know it.
Starting point is 00:43:38 It's insane to me to eat a cheese steak. Like, he had to travel for that cheese steak. You know what I'm saying? If you've ever had a cheesecake, you got to eat a cheesecake. It's piping hot. I'm like, you wait like, fuck, how long you take together from Philly to Newark and traffic?
Starting point is 00:43:53 That happened. So I actually, when I went to, it wasn't for WrestleMania. What was it for? Rewatchables? So I actually, because I don't know if I told you guys before. I asked a friend of mine,
Starting point is 00:44:04 I was like, I'm in Philly. No, I got a free night. Like, what should I do? And I was told, you should stay in your hotel. Okay? It's like, where are you saying?
Starting point is 00:44:15 So you stay in a hotel. And the text I got back was so, funny. I know I've said this before. It's like, Van, let me tell you something. Philly niggas are like D.C. niggas. They filled up with testosterone and bloodlust. That's what, that's what's said to me.
Starting point is 00:44:29 It was like, don't go nowhere. So I'm like, cool. So I actually ordered the cheese steak to the room. Right. And when I was telling the people at the hotel, the people at the hotel were like, we'll go
Starting point is 00:44:43 get it for you. Oh. Like, we'll, like, send a messenger out. We'll send somebody to go get the cheese steak for you. Five-star service. But they were like, don't order the cheese steak. And have them come here. And have Uber Eats bring it because it's not going to be in a good experience.
Starting point is 00:44:58 And I was like, nah, I just did that. The woman at reception got mad at me. Oh. She was like, I'm telling you, it's not going to be good. Now, I send somebody up there to get the cheese steak. It's still not the best that way, but it'll be back. I'm like, I just get it for Uber E's. Not going to have the best cheese steak experience.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Okay, bye. Wow. And so, my folks get really weird about that cheese thing. Also, here's a thing. Your friend really did love you. Like, they,
Starting point is 00:45:24 because I will say when my, like, my cousins dropped me off for the first, I was staying off campus at Temple. They looked around.
Starting point is 00:45:33 They was like, hey, y'all, man, good luck. I put my head down on the pillow. All right here's,
Starting point is 00:45:37 ba-ba-ba- man, shout out to Philly. I love Philly. I got love for Philly, but it's, here's the thing. I got used to,
Starting point is 00:45:46 like, you know how some things, like, what those fireworks or gunshots? I'm like, it don't even matter, man. Like, I- Bro, when I walked around in the day in Philly, in the day, when I walked around in the day, I felt nothing but love.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Yes. Dudes was riding around on their little shits. Like, hey, Kanye! I'm like, no, I'm not Kanye. Now, I know. You the nigger that got at Kanye. Damn! You know what I'm kidding? Dirt bikes? And then they take off.
Starting point is 00:46:15 It was fun. It was like 70 below zero at WrestleMania, two brick I left. But, but, nah. So when I saw that scene, I was like, hey, man, because somebody had done their cheese steak homework to make it a little bit more authentic. But then he had the DeAngelo's, and he said the cheesecake is discussing after that cheese steak was like a prop for him to, like, insult the police commissioner.
Starting point is 00:46:35 Also, if I'm, if I'm the police commissioner, I'm like, fuck it. She's going to figure out sooner later. I, I mess with the police commissioner, man. He was, he was standing on business. He went to the funeral. Until he wasn't. And he was, well, you know, listen, you got to make concession.
Starting point is 00:46:46 You know what I mean? You get caught up. You aren't caught up with an extra matter of affair. That's all I got to do. It's all sweet and good until like you show up with the photos. Like, yeah, you are hiding a child, man. Put you on blast. It's not really going to slide.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Wait, isn't the Kingpin also hiding a child or finally discovered? I mean, I'm guessing Kingpin hides children a bit better. And he's the guy, what you would call it? Daniel, that's not his son. It's about Gandalfini's kid. You're playing that part? I don't think so. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:47:13 I don't think it would be. It's good, though. Like some of the new characters. Let's talk about them. You have the niece of Ben Eric. You have Michael Gandal Phine's characters named Daniel Blake. So they're introducing some people that kind of sort of remind me of characters that we met. And you don't like them.
Starting point is 00:47:35 No, no, they're not. It's not against the performance or whatever. Sometimes, like, it does give me, like, diet version of the Netflix show. That's what I'm saying. Which is, like, and that's nothing. I feel like it's more so. they were kind of telling us this whole time they're just like, yeah, we had to go back to the
Starting point is 00:47:52 drum board, this is going to be the Netflix show, this is going to be the Netflix show. They get foggy up out there, they get Karen out of there, and it's like, I don't think it's fair for me to even say anything bad about the actors yet because it's like, I'm comparing them to people who had three seasons to develop
Starting point is 00:48:08 their arcs versus now where it's like, oh, Yerke's niece, I'm like, of course you're not going to be Yerke. But they're not bad. They should have never killed him. They should have never killed that. They should not. I actually. It was a fake. It was, but once again, it did set the stakes for the show, which next topic, the killing of foggy did here. Now, let me take something real quick.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Let me ask you this. This is going to be very controversial in my opinion, the decision to kill foggling this. Don't tell me that you agree with the decision because I'm so, I'm so anti-kelling foggy. I'm agnostic. Agnostic. I thought I would care more. Yeah. Um, I love Foggy's character, and I cannot imagine.
Starting point is 00:48:53 He essentially acts as Matt's sounding board. His conscience, his conscience, his humanity. I couldn't have imagined an era or a version of the show without Foggy until it happened. Well, here's my thing. I don't, I don't mind his disappearance until we get some of the courtroom shit. Because it's like nothing against the actress who plays with Duffy, but there is a level of them like, I just do miss like Nelson Murdoch
Starting point is 00:49:22 that but like that type of like on the ground. It's a gritty New York type. Yeah. It's a very interesting thing because if we take if we treat this as like, say Netflix never lost Daredevil and like we just kept going. I could see a world in which Foggy dies in the season four premiere of Daredevil. And then we spend that entire season reckoning with the death of Foggy.
Starting point is 00:49:44 And we never, and we never leave that one year period. And we keep sticking. with that. But as a template to start a new thing, I think it's kind of perfect because people can get upset with the carelessness with which
Starting point is 00:50:01 they just dispatched of Foggy and didn't really like send him off or feel too bad for him in a way or give it a year time jump. All of those things can upset a fan who just was off of the heels of a three season watch with this character, but as a
Starting point is 00:50:22 set up for a thing that is nearly 10 years after the fact, I think it's kind of a great table setting for something to reset the character as we know it and give them a new set of stakes and circumstances. I think that's the reason they do it in the first five minutes. Right, and you have to do it immediately.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Right, you have to do it immediately. That way can... All right, we're done with that. That's over. Let's get to the new... Was that a storytelling decision, or was that a everybody's pissed at us for not bringing Foggy and Karen back. We can't. Let me tell you why it couldn't have been a storytelling
Starting point is 00:50:55 decision. Yeah. Yeah. Because if it was a storytelling decision, Mews would have killed Foggy and not Bullseye. Right. Yeah. Bullseye killing Foggy almost doesn't matter. Like we've, Bullseye killing, we have yet to see what's going to happen with Bullseye in the future of the show.
Starting point is 00:51:14 This show, if anything, right? He might not be back. I'm glad that Bullseye didn't die, though. If Bullseye would have been dead... When I thought Billzai died, I was fucking pissed off. Okay, wait a minute. I was so pissed. Why?
Starting point is 00:51:27 Get everybody out of there, right? If they would have killed Bullseye, I'd been like, what the fuck is the point? Is it right? Killing your arch nemesis. It just doesn't make any sense. That's how you get down to Frogman as the villain. Well, first of all, I'm down with Frogman. I'm just saying, bro.
Starting point is 00:51:43 I'm cool with Frogman. I'm just, I'm just saying that that's how you get to. It's point. They stop killing villains, all right? But if it would have been a storytelling decision, it would have made more sense to have your newer villain kill your older friend and then establish the desperation of that hero villain relationship than it is for Bullseye to come back and kill Foggy.
Starting point is 00:52:09 That seems like they're just tying off the old show. Yeah. You know what I mean? Which is that why I felt I was just like, even Charlie Cox and Vincent Dinoffrio have both been kind of like, we don't even know if that was the right decision yet. You know, that's a very big thing. It's a big thing.
Starting point is 00:52:27 And I was just like part of me, I just felt like it was done sloppy. Like by the end of the second episode, we're off to the races. And I was just like, hey, I'm enjoying the show. But there was a part of me where I was just like, I feel like for how much boggy met to this show to match a journey or whatever, I just did not like how I think that's fair that's fair though right like because again he's been somebody three seasons we love him mad loves him he's a it is it was an essential part of the show we talked about his conscience his heart right to dispatch of him in a five minute a little scene the beginning
Starting point is 00:53:04 of the episode is kind of tough but again to your point it's not really storyteller this is as much as it's like yo we got to get on with dude we got to get on with it we got to lock that is that is to me the establishment of like this is a new show. Yeah. Regardless of how, how faithful and like, tonally, uh,
Starting point is 00:53:23 like accurate to the old Netflix show that it is. Yeah. They have something different on their mind that they want to talk about. And I think getting rid of Foggy the way that they did is a very intentional way to do that, that I'm kind of for because I'm kind of liking where this is going. I, like, it doesn't take away from those three seasons. Foggy's still there.
Starting point is 00:53:43 It's just the way in which. they get rid of him, bold and daring, for sure, for where this show is going. I like it. All right, before we continue, let's throw it to a quick commercial break. And when we're back, we'll finish kind of our thoughts on Daredeup.

Starting point is 00:55:20 let's continue. I mean, my thing is this. I just, this is kind of to bring things back here. What is the job to you guys? I'll just ask this question broadly of a show premiere, particularly like this. This is a continuation,
Starting point is 00:55:37 but it's also a premiere. But what's the job of the show premiere, Chuck? I think it is, it was funny. I was emailing with Mal about something and she asked me, she's like, what did you think? Valerie Rubin. And I was just like, you know what? By the end of the second episode, I immediately wanted to start the third. And I know that's such a, like, a dumb way to, like, talk about what is show needs to do.
Starting point is 00:55:59 That is the mark of a really successful, like, premiere to me, which is, like, I haven't always felt that way with Disney Plus shows. And at least with this one, I'm like, I don't agree with all the decisions. Some of the shit was wonky. but at the end of it, I was just like, hmm, like, I'm excited to see what I'm happy to be back, I want to know what happens. You know what I'm saying? And that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:56:18 The show succeeds. Now, I'll tell you something. I learned my lesson from Scro-Screnateate. I didn't watch ahead. I didn't either. Yeah. It was so hard not to do that. Kalika?
Starting point is 00:56:29 No. She's watching it at all. She wanted to watch a premiere. Oh, she wants to watch premiere on Disney Plus. Oh, boy. I desperately need her thoughts. We need the dare bear. Honestly, episode three.
Starting point is 00:56:38 We need Calico. We need the dare bear. We need the dare bear bear. Dare Bear segment. Kalika gives her thoughts on the show. She's not going to be very pleased about what happened with fog. Yeah. Did you tell you tell her?
Starting point is 00:56:47 I didn't tell. Oh, she's not going to be good. You got it. You got it. Hey, just watch. She's not going to be very pleased. We'll have a fog.
Starting point is 00:56:57 Um, Kerm, watch the hit. Wow. I heard I'm talking about it. Always fucking Kerm. Just like we can't be one of the boys. It wasn't even around what Screenergate happened.
Starting point is 00:57:06 And he doesn't understand what we all the audience, how we stand in the gap for the audience, and what Screener Gate meant to the riders and the mob. Hey, first of all, why y'all snitching? It's not snitched. Like, why is this relevant? Why y'all tell them my business? Why? You watch ahead.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Why, well, we don't do it. You watch the head. You don't do that. Scritorgate ruined. Which, what show was screaming? Moon night. Moon night. Of all the shows. Of all the show. They could tell. It was so funny. They'd be like, these motherfuckers watch.
Starting point is 00:57:39 There was so many different, hey, these motherfuckers watch. Do you want to know what I will say in retrospect? What? That's how you could tell motherfuckers cared. Because he's just like, we want to watch this shit with Joe. Yeah, like these motherfuckers watch, man. It's like, different. Can anybody else tell that these guys have watched the whole fucking show?
Starting point is 00:57:55 I watched it. I think somebody said it, though. I think somebody was like, it's clearly unavoidable. I think that people, people snuffed it out before we said it. Or no. No, I think Charles said he watched. I watched four of the shows. It's fucking fine.
Starting point is 00:58:13 Like, guys, we don't be talking about Moonnight any fucking more. So I was right. The shit was a heck. Anyway, wait, we haven't talked about this part of the show, which I'm really interested in, is originally this show was supposed to kind of be like a case of the week type law and order type shit. And you can see how I think they were trying to go that way. And now it more so seems like the network show.
Starting point is 00:58:38 they are using certain cases like White Tiger Yeah As kind of like a thematic element To talk about vigilanteism All that shit How'd you feel like the white tiger Of it all worked here?
Starting point is 00:58:52 Because I'm like with the white tiger Case essentially what happens is That I believe his name is Hector Hector Ayala Goes down into the subway He sees two men beating up On a civilian He doesn't he breaks it up
Starting point is 00:59:07 And one of the officers ends up dying. We realize that they work for the NYPD. Matt, which I thought was a really cool use of his powers, hears him getting assaulted by the police at the station, becomes his lawyer. And this seems like this is going to be the big case of the first season. What do you feel about, what do you feel about, Hector, the White Tiger, how they're using this case?
Starting point is 00:59:31 Was that the most interesting thing of these two episodes premiere? So the thing about it. about the white tigers. I was expecting him maybe to show up in a different way than what he did. Yes. In a way that was maybe a little bit more, you know, if you're introducing a character in live action, it's going to be white tiger, character that maybe a lot of people, it's important character, maybe a lot of people aren't as familiar with Latino superhero. Maybe I thought it would be done in a different way, and maybe it still will be. Having White Tiger's case be the case that kind of gets Matt back into the shit is interesting. They've done that before. It didn't
Starting point is 01:00:07 really necessarily do it with superheroes. I mean, they did it with Punisher, right? He took up the case of the Punisher. But that might be a tell about how this show is going to be a little bit different now that it's a part of the MCU. Maybe we'll see more guys or if those
Starting point is 01:00:25 will be more involved in a way with lore that undergirds the Barber universe. But do you guys think, because to your point, I was like, am I missing a scene? Because the only time we really see White Tiles, is in this like grainy bodega video and they talk about his powers but we never like to see white tiger really being white tiger he talked about his mystical amulet that gave him powers i don't have my white clothing or my amlet well the amulet he's sick for white tiger that he has a yeah yeah by the way he said it as if he wasn't armed during an altercation where it's like no no i don't even have my ambulance when you first see the fight and you know that um and by the way rest at peace to the gentleman who plays white Tiger, he's passed on.
Starting point is 01:01:09 I think he passed away of cancer. But when you see a character that you know has abilities and you see him in that first fight, you wonder why he's not kicking ass. Right. He beats them. But like he beats the guys, but you're wondering why it's a stroke. He's efforting a little bit. And then they explain that that he didn't have his stuff.
Starting point is 01:01:32 But there's also a little bit of ambiguity because he does a lot of Murdoch. He tells him the truth. And then he also lies to him. So there are things in time. Also, superhero 101. Why the fuck are you leaving your super suit under the bed, my man? That's a terrible high spot. I mean, you want to get supposed to have a bat cave?
Starting point is 01:01:52 I'm going to be in the floorboard. Come on. You're going to lose the deposit. Different superheroes. Listen to Jeremy. Lose the deposit. You say it like you've only got one floorboard. All I'm saying is it just seems like a lot to go through.
Starting point is 01:02:05 I don't know black people are really just. like the privilege the privilege Rick apart of an apartment nigga you out 1,300 I'm saying if you got to lose floor you go like you if what you can't it's in the closet you can ease it all right whatever
Starting point is 01:02:19 the closet where your your wife can go find it yeah I guess she could hide it from your wife hide it from anybody else so she's gonna you know what I'm saying you know what I'd been cool it would be cool if he had it in a locker at the bus station White Tiger
Starting point is 01:02:32 oh just like some of dentrosstice Van what would Kalika do if she just like opened up the thing and she was just like, that it's Spider-R. Oh, Charles. With the amount of things that Kalika has found regarding me, that would be
Starting point is 01:02:49 she'd be pleased. Oh, so, nigga, that's where you was. You was out being Superman. Okay. I thought some other shit was going on. Anyway, do you think they cut some white tiger footage? Because I was just like, was it looking janky? And they were like, we can't this ain't serious
Starting point is 01:03:11 because he did. I mean, but it's also like, how are you going to introduce somebody like White Tiger cold like that other than what we just did? When I saw him in the suit, I was like, he looked like a powering dream. The suit did look great. It was rough. And I was like, was this avert? I feel like
Starting point is 01:03:27 White Tiger was always in the show. And then they were trying to make him more serious. And I feel like they're just, I can't show this man walking around in this. He could. I think I think, oh, Ultimately, it doesn't really matter because you didn't need it in this episode, I thought. Like, he has the altercation cops.
Starting point is 01:03:46 You see the grainy footage. But, I mean, the crux of the thing with Matt and him was, you lied to me about being my tiger. Right. I need to know all the facts so that we can help you. And it got sold on, right? And so that was, I thought that was good for their relationship, like a point of contention. And then you get the scene with, oh, boy, they went to the lawyer, right? the lawyers were in the judge
Starting point is 01:04:10 and they have the discussion like does this matter is this important to the case right and we got to win for Matt and he was like nah because I kind of railroad him at the bond hearing it was like I mean you kill cops the judges you know what I'm saying hey they locked the step so it was like you'd even like hear them yeah right so
Starting point is 01:04:26 we talked about this a lot in our in our uh run up to this how do we feel like the action wasn't this how do we feel uh they landed that way so I would say that I enjoyed the fight, the desperation of the fight that Matt has at the end of the second episode. Yeah, I think that was the best.
Starting point is 01:04:48 That was the best. That was the best. The bull's-eye fight was under one. And look, it had the, that's just to me, it had the right sense of danger. Bullseye is just a terrifying, it's just a terrifying villain to me. I don't know why. There's a nigga who could pick up a stapler
Starting point is 01:05:07 and throw it at your head. It's just bullseye terrifies me. You're running away, you know, Bullseye's out of fucking bullets or out of knives, and all of a sudden, a microphone hit you in your shit and you die. Like, Bullsard just, it's just funny for him. Somebody just been able to pick up anything and fucking throw it at you.
Starting point is 01:05:24 That's crazy, too. He could have been a quarterback. He could have been a pitcher. Well, he was a picture. He was a pitcher. No, but I mean, like, I'm talking like, he could have been Randy Johnson times a thousand. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:34 But he decided to go start murder. He wanted to kill. But so that fight still felt, very intense. Let me not say it sucked. The fight felt very intense, particularly when they get on the rooftop. It visually
Starting point is 01:05:49 did not look very good. Here's the thing. I know what you're saying because I was like, I was trying to pinpoint. I'm like, why is this fight underwhelming? Because there are moments of tension in it.
Starting point is 01:05:59 There are moments that reminded me of fight these ad with bull's eye. And I'm like, they're getting like little sections, right? But then when they're on the rooftop, I'm like, that looks like y'all are on a green screen. There were just like couple moments where I was like, it's not hitting. And it felt like this was probably part of the reshoes.
Starting point is 01:06:18 And it felt like they were actually, like, in a weird way, kind of trying to like doing that thing where they're emulating the past Netflix show. And then once it's in its own lane, we see that fight with the cops. It's great. I wonder. And it's, it made me think that the Netflix show had more money. I mean, you know, way. No, no, no. No, no.
Starting point is 01:06:37 I know that there's, I know that there's. I know that there's no way that it did. No. But I'm looking at the fight and I'm like, everything else felt so intimate. You'd see knives going people. The stunts seemed a little bit more cohesive. I'm just talking about for that first fight.
Starting point is 01:06:54 You guys, I'm not nitpicking. Sure. It's fine. It's fine. It was fine. And dramatically, it worked. Dramatically it worked. There's actually, I ran that back. I kind of like it a bit more because when you see, as they're fighting,
Starting point is 01:07:08 through the bar, like, towards camera. Every time that he's, like, trying to punch Bullseye and do something, he, like, notices another person at the bar and you see Bullseye throw something. It'll bounce off of a wall and you don't even notice that somebody's just falling down because of shit. But, see, I get that. But my point is, the fact that Bullseye was ricocheting shit and doing all of that, it was hard to see.
Starting point is 01:07:29 Yeah, it was tough. Yeah. Yeah. When they're walking up the stairs, they're just, like, doing this. And I'm like, what is even happening? I don't. The stare part, I did start laughing. When he's just like throwing random shit.
Starting point is 01:07:42 And they're all the stare at all. I think what it was is this part of the research. I don't think it was like having more money or a sense. It was just part of like, we got to get this. We got to tighten this scene up. We got to get it out of here. So, you know. I like the fact that they led with that scene.
Starting point is 01:07:57 Yeah. Throw us back in the world. Throw some knives. Very familiar. All right. We're out of here. Anything we want to say before we get out? Anybody else got anything?
Starting point is 01:08:04 I'm excited for episode three. Yeah. Here's the thing. Guys. I feel like y'all thought I was going to shit on the episode, but I think this is, in terms of like Disney Plus MCU shows, I think this has the best premiere, honestly, since what, Loki?
Starting point is 01:08:20 Like, Lokey is a great premiere. Loka's a great premiere. Wanda Vision was a great premiere. This Marvel was an amazing premiere. Well, Wanda Vision had me wrapped around its little finger for them episodes. Yeah. What are they doing? It was so inventive.
Starting point is 01:08:34 Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, particularly, like, in a while for sure. Yeah. But Ms. Marvel started off very strong. Yeah. Yes. Ms. Marvel started all very strong. I have faith.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Yeah, there you go. There you go. Just like Daredevil. You're Catholic. All right. That's a wrap. This week on the Ring universe feet. The Verses are coming soon.
Starting point is 01:08:53 The entire Rearvers family. Everybody's together from Verses. We love them. On Friday, Buttmash brings you their look at split fiction. Split. Split fiction. Don't know what that's. And on the, Steve.
Starting point is 01:09:05 tell us. What is split fiction? It's a like a two-player couch co-op game where you play these two people that are in this like storytelling narrative simulation and they got to like get out of it together. It's like it takes two. Yes. It's like it takes two or the no way out.
Starting point is 01:09:22 Yeah, no way out. Interesting. And on the House of Our Feed, they will be bringing you their deep dive on the scene of their devil born. Again, producers are Laya, S.O.B. Zanaris. Jonathan, watch ahead, Kermah. The watcher. Jonathan to watch ahead Kerman.
Starting point is 01:09:37 Show me a dinner on. Hashtag D.R. D.R. D.R. D.R. D.R. Dernon is crazy. What's you going? What's going on? What's going on?
Starting point is 01:09:48 D.R. Crazy. Yo. Jomi, are you a passport, bro? He generally is. I'm not. I like being at the, I like being at the, man.
Starting point is 01:09:57 I like being a lot. That's what pastoral. That's what they were saying. No. I'm going to see Jomey making the TikTok says five ways that women in the DR are better than America. No, man. Don't do that.
Starting point is 01:10:10 Don't do that. And additional production from Arjuna, Da Wacha, Bramgapel. Chuck, take us out. Kerm doesn't respect Screener Gate.
Starting point is 01:10:22 Daredevil is back and going further. And if you're hungry in the city, make sure you catch Ben at Marathon Burger. Boom!
