Starting point is 00:00:18 and all it takes is a tap with your iPhone or Apple Watch. The best part is you'll still earn the card rewards, points, and cashbacks you love. It's Van Lathen Holmes. Have a Zee. Hi. Oh, hi. You guys look amazing. Thanks for being here. We were worried that everyone's going to be at the Fantastic Four, but you're here with us instead. Lucky us. We're here to decide definitively, once and for all, who is winning the IP wars in 2025? We have assembled our best and our brightest minds, the absolute pop culture scientists that are the Midnight Boys, Pugh, Poo! And House of Our.
Starting point is 00:02:58 So we are going to start, and I do have an audience participation part, so don't fall asleep. We're going to start by going down the line, and everyone's going to make their case for who they think is winning the IP wars. We have promised no long monologues. So we're going to start with Mallory Rubin. Malarubin, who's winning the IP wars in 2025? Joanna, thanks for asking and thanks for guiding us through this shared experience today. We're looking forward to a risk-efficient endeavor. Thank you to everybody for coming. We're really hyped about this. My answer is simple. Crypt
Starting point is 00:03:42 So take me home. I have to be James Gunn and the newly launched DCU. I think that we cannot really overstate the magnitude of making a Superman movie that is not only beloved by the masses, but managed, despite incorporating so many familiar elements, to feel really, really fresh, and to give us that confidence for everything that awaits. So now we get to look forward to Supergirl.
Starting point is 00:04:13 they haven't even announced Batman. We're this excited and we don't even know who's playing Batman. So I am excited to see if anybody makes the case for Star Wars or Marvel or anything else. But my vote is for DC. Van Leevin. First of all, I appreciate all you guys coming out. It says at the top on the back of this car. Please be aware that many members of your audience may be under 18 years of everything.
Starting point is 00:04:43 There is a kiddo here. There's a couple. There's a child. There's children over there? There's a baby over there. Two babies. It's going to be a long hour. Teach him young.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Some bad babies over there. Yeah. It's Marvel. I'll tell you why. You guys didn't clap from Marvel. Y'all hate them. Charles is right. It's cooked.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Because the only thing that would be harder than making one great superhero movie will be making two. I don't want to ruin you guys because I know a lot of you haven't seen Fantastic Four yet because how many have seen it in here?
Starting point is 00:05:27 So, come, ooh. Me and you, brother, one dude. But, not to spoil the movie for you guys, but I do think that the film which had to take these characters that we've known for a long time and give them a contemporary
Starting point is 00:05:43 Shine did a great job at that. I think Marvel was in the dirt in terms of not just the critical or the audience response to their movies, but the critical quality of them. I think they're two for two, so I'm going to say it's Marvel.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Charles. All right, so I have two answers. In my heart, it's one piece. It's just the great story of all the time. But not to give too much, a way about the Friday, Friday's midnight boys, but, um, you know, fantastic, poor cop, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:23 the Grinch, my heart has melted. I enjoyed myself. It is probably the most positive I've been in two years. So, uh, yeah, tap in. Really. Um, Mallory, do you want to share with the crowd what you told me about Charles's reaction to Fantastic Four? I would love to.
Starting point is 00:06:41 We had the pleasure of seeing the movie. together in Los Angeles on Monday night. And we emerged from the theater a couple minutes ahead of Charles. Charles came out fashionably late. Arms spread wide, did a little dance and said, I have to break character on the podcast. I can't believe it. Fantastic Four was great. It broke Charles.
Starting point is 00:07:03 It's so good. It broke Charles. I loved it. Jomey at dinner on. Fantastic Four was great, but I got to go with D.C. solely for the reason James Gunn is moving like he's pock out here. He's doing every interview
Starting point is 00:07:17 he's like, I'm untouchable y'all see what the numbers is looking like you feel me, I'm that guy and with Peacemaker coming out later this year which that was the biggest laugh in all the theaters that we went to was just everybody went crazy when John Cena showed up.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Gotta give it to D.C., man, I think they're cooking right now. By the way, kids, when he said Pock, he's referring to Tupac Shakur. All right. A rapper, a troublemaker who was killed, unfortunately. Look, he just asked her. He just said, Mommy, who is Tupac?
Starting point is 00:07:53 Oh. Look, I swear it happened. All right, it's all tied up to Marvel, 2 DC. Stephen Allman, break the tie for us. Who is winning? Oh, man, I love this pressure. It has to be, for me, I think, the optimism and the actual, like, wind in my sales goes to,
Starting point is 00:08:12 the DCEU because I think Superman really just restored the feeling. I don't think I felt that good coming out of a movie in a very long time. And it's nowhere to go but up from here. To know that Batman is going to be coming to know that Matt Reeves is going to bless us once again. It's nowhere to go. Bless us once again in 2097. Yes. I'll be alive, I think.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Nobody said Star Wars. Interesting. Noticing. No, I'm going to say Star Wars. There we go. Oh, okay. All right. Because if you refer to the document I shared with you all earlier today, winning can mean whatever you decide it means.
Starting point is 00:08:49 And I think Andor is going to stand the test of time longer than everything else we saw. Anyone want to fight me? Anyone want to bravely say Andor isn't an all-time historic TV show? No. But I will offer up a slight counter argument to the cases for Star Wars. and Marvel. I thought Andor was the best show of the year by a mile. No argument there. I think Fantastic Four is tremendous. I can't wait for us to pot about it. I thought Thunderbolts was awesome. I think that the difference is for DC right now, it feels like the entire
Starting point is 00:09:27 conversation is about what is good right now or what could be good in the future. Andor is so good. It has weirdly cast a pal over the enthusiasm for the rest of Star Wars. Star Wars isn't winning 2026. You're living in the moment. Apologies to Mando and Grogu, but I do think that it's winning 2025. Fair. And then for Marvel, while I think Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four are awesome. This episode is brought to you by Spectrum Business. Fast, reliable internet means everything for your business. Starting point is 00:11:26 No, wait, wait, wait. We don't have to go back here. Anthony Mackie, that's your guy. Do we want to introduce? Shout out. I will say shout out to the black barbers in San Diego. Because when I walked in there, like, you're Charles from the Midnight Boy. And you want to know what they said?
Starting point is 00:11:40 I kid you not. They're like Anthony Mackey wasn't cutting as Captain America. Wow. I kid you not, Frank. What? What's wrong with you? What?
Starting point is 00:11:49 Charles, what else did they say? Charles, what else did they conveniently say that we'll help you on this panel here today? All right, guys, you know? Sacred space. Now, Brave New World. Oh, what? You know, but I'll say this, though.
Starting point is 00:12:03 It wasn't because of Anthony. By the way, you got to support people. You know what I'm saying? All right, my bad. My bad. Love you. Oh, yeah. What's up with you?
Starting point is 00:12:10 That's twice now. Brave New World, true. But also, here's the thing I would say about the DCU. There's game left for them. If we're talking about right now, this answer might change in December. Peacemakers coming out. We'll see what happens with that. Brave New World, I will say, is sort of a relic to the old Marvel.
Starting point is 00:12:31 It was sort of a zombie film in the same way that some of the films that they had made. Before that were zombie films. I do feel like the fresh, shiny toys of 2025 for Marvel are the two movies that they were able to make cohesively and with a new creative outlook. And so I'm basically saying... Are you separating Marvel movies from Marvel TV? Do you want to talk about Daredevil and Ironheart in this conversation as well? Well, I mean, we could. I enjoyed Daredevil.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I desperately wanted to enjoy Ironheart. But I enjoy Daredevil. I thought Daredevil for, once again, being a relic of that zombie television era that Marvel had where they couldn't really put cohesive stories and cohesive storytellers together was one thing. But I think even on the TV front, it gave you something to look forward to.
Starting point is 00:13:25 I thought they were faithful with the adaptation for as much as they could have been. And I think that Marvel is back. Do you guys feel deceived that I would like to apologize in advance to the children in the room after we all just discussed together that there are children in the room, that we got a marketing campaign for Daredevil
Starting point is 00:13:42 largely centered around the shower sex scene and then that was it on the sex front. Have you recovered from that disappointment? Jomey? Well, you know, it was tough going there early, but ultimately, you know, the show, I think, showed us enough. I didn't need more than the shower scene, I felt like.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I felt like season two, we're getting full frontal from Charlie Cox. Okay. Is that what Marvel needs to do to win a future year for you? I think so. And I think it's what the people deserve. I want to see Pedro Pascal hanged on.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Oh, God. Why do you think we love Fantastic Four so much? Right. Read whatever you need, Richards. Yes. Yeah. Does anyone want to put DC in the dirt to refute the DC lovers on this panel?
Starting point is 00:14:28 No, because we like Superman. They really did. No, Superman touched my heart. Like, it was a very important movie for comic books in general, I just think that there's just hasn't, there's not enough dip on the chip right now for D.C. for me to say that they won.
Starting point is 00:14:46 I expected Superman to be good. I'm not going to lie, it was better than I thought it was going to be. I expected it to be good, but for me to say that they won, they would probably have to accomplish and prove a little bit more. Maybe peacemaker will.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Eagley. Eagley, oh my God. How do you feel that Michael Rooker is going to spend the whole season, too, trying to kill Eigley? Bad. When I read the sentence, I believe, in Entertainment Weekly that said his sole purpose was to try to hunt and kill Eagley, I felt bad. As an Eagley enthusiast and an animal lover, that's not what I want.
Starting point is 00:15:17 All right. Here are some things that are coming later this year, and we just want to talk about whether, in addition to everything, Eagley, what might be coming that could threaten some of the things that we've talked about already. Guys, thanks, guys. She took the kid out of the thing. Because of Mallory? I just watched her walk. One, one left standing, though. One more, one more.
Starting point is 00:15:38 One left standing. Oh, they're like the other kids. Yeah. They're going strong. Okay, cool. You guys are the ones that they're just thrown out to the wild. Nice. I watched the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:15:49 I'm like, we were too much for the kid. Jomi, Mal. Can't believe this. The Ring of Earth contains adult content. Okay. All things stand-down. Here are some things that are coming and you let me know if it's even possibly going to threaten the monoliths that we just talked about.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Fallout. Season two. Okay, that's a no. I love that show. Fallout's incredible. The end of stranger things. The end of stranger things. Okay, that was weak.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Are we choosing to believe the runtimes of all of those episodes, by the way? There's cinematic experiences. Here to interrupt all of your family holidays. Can't be real with y'all for a second. Here's a problem. Y'all don't really like Stranger Things, man. Like, y'all don't. We did, though.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You know, y'all liked it when they first came out. Right. Yeah. Now, y'all are hanging on to it. Y'all don't really like strange things. Van, that was true, I think, until this last season. When Kate Bush. That's right.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Turned us all around. I'm not trying to see these 30-year-old kids, have a hijinks anymore. Yeah. Mike got a mortgage now. Tron Aries. Oh, yeah. Okay, all right. Give me more Jared Leto.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Just keep. Absolutely not. Said no one ever. He's putting them in stuff until he makes the big mistake. And then everybody will be like, we never saw it coming. We didn't know. When he was sending pig fetuses to his castmates as the Joker, we didn't know. What does Van consider a big mistake or not?
Starting point is 00:17:27 Jared Letter was a good joker, though. I will say that, Hattie. You don't believe that. You don't believe that. You don't believe that. You don't believe that. that. No, my God. No manchis. What do you mean? You guys remember Morbius? All too well. Also, all too well. Dr. Michael Morbius. Use his full title, please. Put
Starting point is 00:17:42 some respect on his name. Morbin time. Um, Avatar, Fire and Ash. Yep. Absolutely. I'll be there. Fire. Fire. Fire. Day one. People like it, but they don't then talk about it after they've seen it. No, it's a mind hole every time. Like every December when one of those movies comes out, we all act like we saw it. And then we did it. Nah, Steve, because you hate him, because I was there in a theater with you for way of water. And we was both looking at the rendered cutscenes. And we was like, this is crazy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And it's like, great. My PS5 can do that. And I have more fun. This is nasty hate from you, bro. This is terrible. This is terrible, dog. Wow. It's good.
Starting point is 00:18:18 The running man. Yeah. Excited for that. No. Oh, yeah. Running man. Running man. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Yes. Yes. for Simon Kimber. Great. All right, all right, fine. Fair enough. The Midnight Boys' favorite movie, Wicked for Good.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Oh, yeah. Now you're talking. Come on. Now you're talking. You guys don't even know what you're in store for. All the characters, they got secrets upon,
Starting point is 00:18:47 secrets upon, secrets upon, secrets. So I haven't read it. I don't know what's happening. Everybody knows. I don't know. Knocked off, buddy. I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:18:55 It's time to sing. I can't wait. Will you guys commit right now to doing your entire Instant Reaction podcast on that movie as a musical. In song, yeah. In song, please. I love a musical.
Starting point is 00:19:06 We're a bit pitchy, dog. I don't know. I don't know about that. Do you, did you like Wicked? Yeah. But I liked it better when you guys wore witch hats. That was even better than the movie. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:18 So I don't think anything major is coming that's going to tip the scales on the three main IPs that we brought up, Star Wars. Wonder Man's coming from Marvel. I don't know that that's going to change. things one way or another. I'll tell you what. Shows with black leads are really struggling up here on this panel today.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I'm excited for Wonder Man. Wonder Man, that's Wonder Brother. And we're going to support him. I don't know. We saw... Who do you believe in Chuck? Anthony Mackie? Now, y'all, y'all, doing my team.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Y'all saw what happened when we supported... I'm trying to get you advice to the NACP Awards. He threw you to live, bro. I don't want to go. I feel like at the end of the year, man's going to be like, I really wanted to, like,
Starting point is 00:20:01 Wonder Man. I really, really did. So this is audience participation. I would like you all by clapping, cheering, hooting and hollering between DC, Marvel and Star Wars
Starting point is 00:20:15 to tell us who has won or is winning 2025. So let's start with Marvel. Okay. I'm worried about losing so as not too.
Starting point is 00:20:36 end on a low note, let's go to Star Wars. Let's see how strong the cryptocurrency is with D.C. They're clapping for the crypto pun. They're clapping for the crypto pun. Garth Vader stood up. Guys, is it a runoff? Was it close? No. No, we won. All right. The D.C. people won. All right. Well, congratulations to the D.C. And that just gives us a lot to look forward to in 2026, which is what we want to talk about next,
Starting point is 00:21:17 which is what is coming in 2026 that we're most excited about. Let's start at the end, Steve. Who do you think is going to win 2026 and what upcoming property is going to win it for them? Oh, man. Oh, man. Of the things that we have here on this wonderful doc, I mean, for 2026, I think the biggest thing
Starting point is 00:21:38 that we would ever want to see is probably Dune 3. Yeah. If we know that that's coming out then, fingers crossed, then that's probably. probably the return for everything that we love for me. Okay, so Team Sandworm from Steve. Team legendary entertainment, I think. Jomey and Dinner on.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Dune 3 is a great answer, but if I had to zag a little bit, I think Spider-Man, a brand-new day is where it's at. They finally got my man in the streets, dog. You know, everybody was so mad. He came up with Tony Stark. He had the money. Now you get the Peter Parker you really want. Broke.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Right? Nothing to his name. I think with Punisher, Hulk or whatever it looks like, I think that's going to be a really, like, finally see Tom Holland in the mud. It's going to be great. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:30 The correct objective answer is Dune 3. It's going to, I'm really, I'm thinking they're going to, they're going to change the Avengers Dumes Day date. They don't want anything with Dune Part 3, but. You don't want Avengers Dune's Day? That's good.
Starting point is 00:22:45 I should trademark that. Don't let this leave this room. Don't let that leave this room. That's us. My super nerdy pick, I just saw some news, some last airbender news. The new series looks incredible
Starting point is 00:22:58 with the earthbenders. It's terrible. The movie. He hasn't seen it, by the way. There's no shot he's seen it. How many? There's no shot he's seen it. No way.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Like, I'm sorry. And all you guys bringing knives out is stupid. No. Oh. And, and, and, and, All right, man. That's Jomey's brother right there. Everyone look at him over there.
Starting point is 00:23:19 He's the... Nah, you. You. But y'all likes that show. So it's a new cartoon coming out? Yes. Can't wait not to watch it. Fans watching air, bud.
Starting point is 00:23:31 I tried it. You know what? I tried all the cartoons you guys told me. So half the cartoons were stupid. The other ones gave me an existential crisis. I watched one. Leon Genesis Evangelion. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Yeah. Yeah. What was the one with the big, angry, giants that we're trying to attack attack on Titan. Have you seen that? You don't like Chris Ryan right now. You don't like Avatar
Starting point is 00:23:58 the Last Airbender? No, I don't like it. I try to it. I try to watch it. I can't connect to him. This is devastating. This is a really tough. He's a little plucky.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Van's my best friend. That was hard to hear. Like, I can't deal with the plucky kids. I'm sorry. I apologize, guys. I'm sorry. Uncle Van. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Did you know that some of people are here? under 18. What'd you say? Some people are under 18. They're plucky kids too in this audience. They're not into that. Van? What's that? Where are you picking for 26? Did you just go past Charles? No, he said he was going to the... I got one. He said Airbender and then you devastated us all with your anti-animation rant. This is easy. So all of these, every movie that we're going to name is going to be better than the movie I'm about to about the name. But I have to throw it back to 1985, I want to see Masters of the Universe is what I want to see. He, man.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Shout out to my cousin, Coy. He locked up now. But when we was in, but back in the 80s, I feel like you didn't have to add that. What? I don't think he could have, no, no, no, no. Now you got his business out there. You got locked up. What?
Starting point is 00:25:07 You can look online and he'll say, number one, he locked up. But me and him had Castle Grace Cole together, and we had, staged it out and done the whole thing. And then one day I went from my Castle Grace Gold and wasn't there no more because Koi had took it. I should have seen it then. But I'm a gigantic He-Man fan.
Starting point is 00:25:28 I cannot wait to see what they do. Isn't that Jared Liddell-again? Wait, Jared Lotto's a he-man? No. Keep a check for a sick man. Wait, so you're too good for Avatar the last Airbender, but you're all in on him. Always, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:41 All right. He-Man is for adults, though. It's like, it's... That's for adults? He's for adults Stop the cap Skeletor is for adults No
Starting point is 00:25:53 It's just He man got a sword He got a girl He got pecks He's the four adults He got pecks He got pecks Do you know the story of why
Starting point is 00:26:04 He man's tiger is so big Is this a Wait How big is it? It's because They had a surplus They had a bunch of leftover tiger toys that were too big for the human action figures, but they rebranded them
Starting point is 00:26:20 so that they could sell them. And that's why Humans Tigers is so big. First of all, his name is Battlecat. Merch. That's the first. Cringer turns to Belchette. Anyway, I'm excited for Heaman. Mali Rubin. I think the answer for the winner of 2006 is us, because this list is incredible of things that are coming out next year. Okay, so I have kind of a tie, two picks. My like, the thing I'm, we've been talking about a lot, personally, just incredibly excited for, is Project Hail Mary. Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:51 I love Andy Weir's books, and that's my favorite, Andy Weir book. I really, really, really had a wonderful time reading it. I don't want to, like, we're curious to see how much they keep, like, revealing in the trailers. I don't want to really say anything about it.
Starting point is 00:27:04 I will just say it is one of the most beautiful friendship stories, like surprising friendship stories that you could possibly confront. And so, like, all of the physics, and everything is wrapped inside of that very accessible rapper. And it's just really wonderful, very funny, very charming, and really cool. So we're excited to go to the panel this weekend. We've heard some really exciting things about the Holly Age panel,
Starting point is 00:27:27 the Project Hail Mary a Hollow Age panel. The other pick is, you know, just the mere prospect of two Game of Thrones shows in the same year for a Thrones addict like me. It's difficult not to pick that. You know, I was very sad this year when a Night of the Seven Kingdoms, based on the Dunkin' Egg novellas that we adore, got moved. I don't know if they're going to keep House of the Dragon next year as well. It seems impossible to me that they would move that to 2027 and make people wait three years
Starting point is 00:27:58 between seasons after the absolute uproar at the end of season two. And so until I have no choice but to believe otherwise, I'm going to tell myself we're getting two Game of Thrones shows in one year and that's a thrill. Do you know what I think you will? I think HBO needs Sunday night back. Well, and there's just so much coming after that, right? We're getting Last of Us. Lantern.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Lantern. I think HBO got to take their corners back. So if they were smart, they were releasing both. You know what? I forgot about that. I am very excited for that because remember I was, no, not lanterns. The Tall Knight, what was his name? Dunkin Egg.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Dunkin' Egg. Yeah. Yeah, I was listening to it on the audio book. Yeah, it was fun. Okay, come into it. What's your pick? I think I'm going to bore everyone in, well, does the Odyssey count? That's my question.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Of course. That's the Odyssey count. The oldest IP of them all. I'll say based on a book, yeah. Matt Damon just did a bit for Kimmel where he has his like Odysseus beard in the entire bit. I'm just like really excited. The beard is real. It's all real.
Starting point is 00:29:06 It's happening. Man, get excited. I'm hating. I don't know why. What's wrong? Why? Why? Why?
Starting point is 00:29:11 I don't want it to be good. What's your favorite Nolan movie? My favorite Nolan movie ever? The prestige. Oh, yeah. You're bad. It's a good ass. Ball nowhere.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Actually, I want, no, I change my mind. Change on a dime. I want the Odyssey to be successful because I really want it for Tom Holland, man. Yeah, Tom Holland. He needs a win, brats. I thought that cherry shit, no. Like, Tom Holland needs this. Yeah, I need the Odyssey to be.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Yeah. Tom Holland is Spider-Rond. man and is marrying Zendaya. He's fine. That's true. But he needs to have something beyond Spider-Man. And he hasn't yet. Timmy, he's lap in the white boy Rankins.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Like, it's bad. It's bad. Jomey. What are... The white boy ranking? White boy rankings. So, right, if I'm going to do like a top three right now,
Starting point is 00:30:04 right now is Timmy, obviously. He's doing his thing. Number two, this will not surprise you. Austin Butler. He's got his... thing going right now. You got to... In 2025, Glenn?
Starting point is 00:30:17 I don't think... In 2025, Austin Butler? But here's the thing, right? When we talk about like... So this is going to get real crazy. We talk about a white boy. I'm talking like... Like, Glenn really is a white man.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Oh. So Gossling is past this. Gosling is past this. Okay. He's a blue chip stock white guy. It's basically we chose ranking white twinks, essentially. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:39 You did this. And so, is Timmy It's Timmy one, Austin, two, and then Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom three. It's a distant third, too. Because at least they both in Doom, you know what I mean? Where are you at? Tom, you couldn't get the call? Everybody got the call to be in Doom, except for Tom.
Starting point is 00:30:55 That's crazy. His girl over there, she could have got him a roll. Yeah. That's nasty. Hey, yo, baby, I know you out there in the sands, but, like, if you could get me, like, I just be in the background, like, I just need something. and she didn't pick up his phone. That's nasty, dog.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Did you want to pick interview with a vampire? Thank you so much. I actually thought about picking vampires for this year because of sinners. Like if just vampires is an option, we've got new Buffy the Vampire Slayer coming. Do the K-pop Demon Hunters count? Wow.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Why are you looking at the cartoon? You didn't watch that? No, what's that? It's like at the top of the top of, I never saw it. It's great. What is it? K-pop Demon Hunters.
Starting point is 00:31:50 It's a recent Netflix movie. The last thing I watched on Netflix was a documentary about Jerry Sandusky. Can I just say that? So it's like that, but with a K-pop band. I feel like K-pop Demon Hunters is like the like. What? It's like, what with the K-pop hit? I sure hope not.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I was, I, I, I, I queued up Netflix and I don't know why. was the thing that Netflix showed to me. I was like, oh, okay, gave it 10 minutes, riveting. I don't watch that much Netflix. I swear, I don't know what happened. I try to watch the, oh, you know what? Kalika was watching the O-Guard,
Starting point is 00:32:26 and the O-Guard went off and then Jerry's Sand Dusk. People are leaving the room. The real list, come up with around. Oh, damn. Well, I didn't mean to upset. So we settled this, and nobody said anything about Mando and Groke. Are we not excited for Mando and Grosu? How do we feel?
Starting point is 00:32:52 I'm excited. I think I'm excited. I think I'm excited, but I think also I'm a little nervous, which is kind of the reason why it might have not been top of mind. I think I put a lot of faith. Whatever happens with He-Man, I'll probably be on the podcast, chilling for it. But I think I'm a little nervous about Mando and Grogo a little bit. Like, Star Wars is so close to my heart. And we're in a really, really, really, really fraught time for Star Wars, if you ask me.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Charles gave me a really spicy look when I said Mando and Grogu. Charles, what are your Mando and Grogu thoughts? That last season was rough, you know. I just, I don't even know. I think the Pedro Pascal of it all loved him in Fantastic Four. I don't want to see his face for a calendar year. So that's rough. I guess I won't have to have a lot.
Starting point is 00:33:46 You will. You will. He's got the helmet on, yeah. And, you know, I think Grogu, if I'm going to be honest, I think Pedro is holding Grogu back. Like, I honestly think... This is a great take. This is why you're the take, Lord. Oh, great shirt. That's a great shirt.
Starting point is 00:34:03 That's a beautiful shirt. That's a beautiful shirt. Papa Pedro's shirt. That's a nice Pedro shirt. Wonderful. I love that. But yeah, I think, I think, I would be more excited if this was just a Grogu movie, you know? The baby who does just a girl.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Speak English? Just and Grogo. It actually would be great. Yeah. It's brave. And then we're not talking about Avengers Doom's Day because we don't believe it's going to come out. No way. No way.
Starting point is 00:34:25 No way. I think it's more likely that Dune 3 moves. Oh, really? Really? Dune 3 moves? Yeah. Yeah. No, nobody else thinks this.
Starting point is 00:34:33 We're going to learn. Okay, we just learned it's not going to be called Dune, Cole, and Messiah. Shocking stuff, right? Dune 3. Okay, we get some casting news. We're in production. They're going to be filming. Marvel needs Doomsday.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Yeah, they do. The entire year, the entire cementing and continuation of the legacy at the end of the... And they've been filming Dune's saga. Yeah. Yeah. They have to end the year with that. Moving that feels cataclysmic. Moving Dune 3 is just like, it's really hard to make a Dune movie.
Starting point is 00:35:07 Everybody in it has a lot going on. Denisville Nouve is about to make James Bond, perhaps with the slighted Tom Holland. Oh, wait. Tom Holland is Bond? No, no, but he's a frontrunner. Is that the worst I don't know. No, no, no. That's actually bad.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Bad business. That's bad. You can't, you can't do that. You can't do that. I love Tom Holland. And I love people of all heights. But Tom Holland is too short to be James Bond, and we all know it. Well, well, well.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Okay. So. Thank you. She's brave. Her takes her hot and they're brave. Nobody mentioned the rings of power. Nobody feels strongly about the rings of power. I'm not even joking.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I thought that was canceled. No. Oh, that was the other. Wheel of time, buddy. Wheel of time. You're getting Amazon shows mixed up. I love rings of power, as you know. Have we forgotten to mention anything upcoming that you feel like is going to change things right
Starting point is 00:36:11 there? The Boys and Gen Me. The Amazon superhero. I am one of, I feel like the remaining people that are still super excited for that world. I still love that world. I know Charles is a little exhausted with it. I think some other people are a little exhausted with it. I still love it.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Even more so Gen V. The first season of Gen V was so much better than it had any business being. Right. I kind of liked the kids coming into their own and everything that happened around it. Obviously, the cast suffered some. tragedy and so you know that sucks and that's a bummer but I'm really excited to see what they do with the second
Starting point is 00:36:52 season of Jim Vee be a hand up right here special presentation of Punisher I don't know if you guys saw this but there was some footage of the Punisher shooting season the presentation there's a guy falling off the roof it's gonna get crazy
Starting point is 00:37:21 what I'm confused about with Punisher is like Fagie has been like yeah you know the special presentation is going to be really brutal and then when he shows up in Spider-Man it's going to kind of just be like he's a good guy. He's not killing as many people. I think that kind of sucks. I feel like Punisher and Spider-Man should be mowing motherfuckersk out.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Okay. Curse in front of the children again. Listen, I have to we can't, we just can't gloss over the X-Men 97 situation here. We can't because it's going to get annoying real quick. No, we can't gloss over it because, first of all, just show hands. How many people saw X-Men
Starting point is 00:37:54 97? Damn. All right. Now put your hands back. Oh, yeah. Damn. Now show her hands. How many people love X-Men 97. All right. Charles hated it. Didn't talk with it. So, yeah, so, yeah, see, she's upset. She's very upset.
Starting point is 00:38:10 She's very mad at you. So do you want to have, I'm a clear out for my boy, my brother. Do you want to talk to the people about your X-Men 97 thing and where you said? I just want to ask where you find the audacity to do this to Charles when you just talk shit on all in a big thing. Ever. First of all, it's not what I did. Talked about a very specific show That if I went and grabbed somebody
Starting point is 00:38:35 From Louisiana where I'm from And was like, yo Do you like the last airbender? They would think that he was signed a no limit. So like I'm telling you... How many episodes did you watch? Oh, I, bro. I was with the Yip-Yip for at least five episodes.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Oh, wow, five episodes. What happened to finishing TV? See how you're deflecting? Talk about X-Men 97 to the people. Go ahead. Floor's yours. I want you guys to know that I have thought long and hard about this. Pause.
Starting point is 00:39:07 And... Didn't need that. With Thunderbolts, with Fantastic Four, and some checks that might have cleared in my bank account. I am super excited for X-Men 97. I think it is going to be generational team. Stay tuned to the Midnight Boys. Here's my follow question. Are you worried at all that it's a different lead creative person on season two?
Starting point is 00:39:29 I am very excited that it's a different person. We don't, I think, you know, the X-Men deserve someone leading it that is a little less fraught at this point in time. All right, right here. Oh, you're finally doing. Oh, my man. Great one. You guys, you guys covered that over on Minut Beach. I was, I, we saw some footage early and I thought it looked terrible.
Starting point is 00:40:00 But so going in, I didn't have high expectations. Right. I was blown away. But what they did with that show. It was funny. It was entertaining. The characters were incredible. I really felt for not only Peter, but Tombstone, spoiler alert. Like, the whole thing was incredibly meaningful. I had a blast watching it. And I believe we said this on Mint's edition. It really didn't matter what we, what any nitpick that we had about how it may have looked or if it could have been flashier or something like that. The story was incredible. And it was exactly the type of thing that a Spider-Band story needed to be. And I absolutely loved it. That's a very good answer. That's a great thing to look forward to.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Yeah, I can't wait. Right there, the glasses. I like that idea. Wow. I mean, I only got like three episodes total. You got like three seasons. You got 55 episodes left, Big Dole. Hey, okay, so look.
Starting point is 00:41:08 Okay, see, that's a very, first of all, that's a tremendous tie that you have on right there. I appreciate that. Really good, really good. There's a, oh, wow. Nice. Okay, so this is what I'll do. I'll make a, since you guys are all down with the yip-yip-yp-yp.
Starting point is 00:41:24 This is what I'll do. I'll watch the yip-yp-yp, but we got to make content out of it. I need a 10-minute, five-minute yip-ypip clear out every episode. Okay. All right, and then we could talk about it. But I'm not going to watch it, just to watch it. This is why I haven't seen The Sopranos yet. See what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:41:42 Right? I'll do it if we do a podcast about it. Multiple people actually gas. I heard the gasps. And I'm saying, I will watch it as soon as I can podcast about it. Okay. So you finish that. We'll get your thoughts.
Starting point is 00:41:54 And then I'm in on, you know, watching the, what is he? You know how to do what? Airbend, the last airbender. He's the avatar. So he's the, he can get into many five elements, actually. You're going to love all of his people in the most tragic play. Oppos. He was in the ice like Captain America.
Starting point is 00:42:10 And then he woke up and rather than be like, where everybody had, he immediately wanted to play. It was kind of stupid to me. But look, it's, it's. giving time he's a 10-year-old boy I'm watching you've done it he broke her to deal Mr. Yip Yip Lathan
Starting point is 00:42:24 that's me Love it right there Why? Brother, it's over It's never been more over in my entire life They cancel lower decks They cancel Prodigy
Starting point is 00:42:46 I'm pretty sure Whatever the show Taney's working on I don't know if that's coming out or not It's never been more over essentially for Star Trek And so with everything everything I love, ages of shield, young justice.
Starting point is 00:42:59 It will all go by the wayside. And we will all, soon the earth will collapse and the sun will expand and we'll all be dead and none of it will matter, essentially. Sorry to get dark, but, you know. Strange New World's rules right back there. Oh, solo leveling. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Yo. What is it? Tell us. Steve, do you want, you are... You got the floor on this one, Chuck. All right. I don't even know what it was, but I was in a very dark place. And I was like, yo, let me watch some solo leveling. And I was like, this is nuts.
Starting point is 00:43:37 The ending, I did not realize that this guy was going to be this powerful. Basically, it's like this world where people get powers like in a video game. But this dude dies for everyone. And then he wakes up and he's like stronger than Superman. It's very good. I'm not describing it well. But I will be tapped in for the second season. That look on Van's face is when he just pulled up an image from this.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Would you like to read the movie? I just looked at it. I don't think I can do it. A little bit. A little bit. Because every time they tell me to watch one of these, first of all, be honest, give me, I tried them all, right? Right.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Every show y'all, every show y'all, every show y'all, every show, I try them all. I try them all. I'll try solo leveling. I just don't want to have to think about too much. Is he, does he like, is it depressing? No. No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:25 You should watch my dress-up darling next. That's, that's max level for him, no. In the, in the Pedro shirt. You're welcome. Yeah. Appreciate that. I don't know if you know, but it's really not my decision. I get it.
Starting point is 00:44:52 This is how it works. I get a text, and that text goes, have you ever seen Night of the Comet? And I go, yeah. And he goes, the next text is Friday. Yeah. That works. So, I mean, honestly, you know what? It's, it's, that was an interesting rewatchables for me.
Starting point is 00:45:12 and it was because, like, seeing a casual, which Bill is certainly not a movie casual, he's like as deep into the movie guts as the rest of us are, but seeing a Star Wars casual treat the movie as just a movie and not the beginning of the good parts of their life like I treat it. It made for a very interesting conversation. And even when we did Iron Man, that was also good. But I would like to see him dive into that a little bit more,
Starting point is 00:45:44 but I really, they'll tell you, the podcast works better when he's super interested in the movie. So you don't want too much of it, or you'll be mad. Yeah. Right. Chewy's metal, yeah. He's like, at the end of the movie, get a load of this. Chewy, they don't give Chewy a medal.
Starting point is 00:46:05 I'm like, Bill, you don't say. My God, what a chew. tragedy. Right there. Thank you. Obviously not a ringer-versed property, but I think anything that has Harrison Ford in or near it
Starting point is 00:46:29 is for us and for everyone. The other night at about, if I remember calling correctly, like 2.30 in the morning, Arjuna sent me say how to everyone give Arjuna. It's Arjuna back there. Arjuna. Arjuna.
Starting point is 00:46:44 A clip of Harrison Ford's emotional address to the shrinking team. It was very sweet. It was incredibly moving and meaningful and everything that Harrison Ford has ever done is perfect. And every time I see him trending on Twitter, I have an absolute genuine panic attack. No, don't worry. He just crashed under the plane. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:47:04 That's what I'm worried about. That specifically is what I'm worried about. So, yes, excited about shrinking season three. And you guys remember when he played Red Hulk? It was wild. She actually showed up to support him and that, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah, you did.
Starting point is 00:47:22 Right there, yeah. Yes. Yeah, 20 years later, we, uh, bone temple. The bone temple. The bone temple. We love to go to the bone temple with Ray Fines. We live at the bone temple with Ray Fines. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:47:42 I'm sorry. I can't help it. I'm sorry. We loved, we loved the film that just came out. So the fact that, you know, fans of the franchise have had to wait so long between installments and now the promise of a movie six months apart is almost like disorienting. I don't quite know what to make of that. But it is really fun.
Starting point is 00:48:01 I thought 28 years later was exceptional. If anybody hasn't seen it, highly recommended. It was great. What question for the entire room, what is the height of zombie lore? Because so the height of zombie video games, is that the last of us? Would that be the last of us? or would be like, no? But then like the height of zombie movies.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Like, there's so much zombie stuff. Oh, she's got to answer back here. Night of Living Dead. Nighter Living Dead. Somebody said Walking Dead. I think that might be the answer. Sean. I mean, he was.
Starting point is 00:48:41 They had a fear of Walking Dead. Like, like, I didn't watch the show. I don't care. Who cares? But they had, like, all these spinoffs on AMC. Like, it went crazy for a lot of years. I co-signed the first couple seasons of Walking Dead. That's good TV.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Yeah, that's good TV. So much zombie stuff going on. Anyway. We have time for, I didn't officially announce it, but we are in the audience Q&A portion of this panel. We have time for just a couple more questions. Yellow shirt right here. Uh-huh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:49:16 Yeah. Am I excited about any of those? Great question. Super Mario was really, the first one was really fun. Yeah. So yeah. Yeah. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:49:24 I think we could have, we didn't get into this, but when we were talking about who was winning this year so far, you could have made a just general Nintendo case. Switch to everyone. was like, do we need this and now look at it? Donkey Kong? Like, tense. I haven't played. I'm getting a lot of text messages from my husband
Starting point is 00:49:40 about how he's enjoying me being out of town so that he can play. But answer is great. He seems thrilled. Adam. What a special person, right? In the back. What animation would we like to see a live action adaptation of?
Starting point is 00:49:58 We're going to start with Steve Allman. Oh, wait. Are you fishing a certain answer out of me? I can't remember. Hmm. You asked me. Truly. What?
Starting point is 00:50:11 Steve, it's time to stop the novel. Steve, answer a question. Oh, my God. Now I'm on the spot and I can't pick it. All the spot. If I had to pick one, I think we, they should make Toy Story live action,
Starting point is 00:50:23 but in the same way that they did. What? Joan. That's a legitimately terrible idea. Hold on. Hold on. What are you talking about? Let me cook.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Let me cook. You are a legitimate. You are a terrible idea. Let me cook. Let me cook. Let me cook. It'll be cooked. An abomination.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Here's the thing, right? I'm holding on real tight right now. Are Woody? Absolutely. Wait, what? Yeah. Absolutely horrifying. Think about Lion King, how they were like,
Starting point is 00:50:49 it's live action, but it's really like animated. The Lion King was terrible. I'm trying to make money. I'm trying to make money. I'm trying to get this bread. You feel me? Y'all not locked in. Y'all don't see the vision.
Starting point is 00:51:02 So Woody's like talking to chat GPT on an iPad or something? What is he doing? Do you know what I'm saying? Jomey, is he? Is Andy also human and picking up? Is he enormous? The other little human. It's kind of like, it's forced perspective.
Starting point is 00:51:14 So you're shooting from the bottom and he's like 60 feet. All right, man. Mow sees it. Mow's here. This is next. I'm not uninterested. This is horrible. Charles, what's your answer?
Starting point is 00:51:24 Oh, that hasn't been announced? Yeah. An animated movie you'd like to see in live action. Ooh. All the X-Men stuff. Like, I'm not even talking about, like, actual X-Men. I'm talking about like X-Force. You know, are they going to do new,
Starting point is 00:51:37 Mutants, not terrible version. Basically anything dealing with the mutants. Like X-Men Evolution? Ooh, X-Men Evolution. They should just continue that. That's actually the X-Men cartoon I wanted to do. We literally have one more
Starting point is 00:51:51 minute. So, I love, no, we're not going to, we're just going to finish this question. Any animation you must you live on. Oh, that's a great. Damn. I'll co-sign that one. I would love to see a live action take on it.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Um, Molly Rubin, where should people find us next? 8.30 tonight. Oh, yeah. This very evening, come hang out with us at, I believe it is called whiskey girl. Whiskey girl. Whiskey girl. Okay. I just want to tell y'all right now, don't bring y'all kids to whiskey girl because it's going up.
Starting point is 00:52:24 Yeah, don't do that. Me is Jomi. Y'all haven't seen how Jomey can drink. Why? The Blue Lagoons are coming out. Blue Lagoons. We'll be very well-behaved. We're so excited to meet and or greet you, but I'm just going to.
Starting point is 00:52:36 to say right now. If I don't shake your hands just because I'm trying not to get sick before the end of Comic-Con weekend. So I'm so excited to meet everyone. Mallory is dripping in Purell. We're doing our best to stay healthy. Thank you for coming to this panel. And thank you guys.
