Starting point is 00:02:29 What day is it? Jomi, who goes? It's Flavours Day. It's Flavours Day. This is the day in between Thursday and Friday. It's like that six minutes. when you realize, hey, the weekend coming. Oh.
Starting point is 00:02:43 You know that feeling? I don't know how y'all felt about Thursday, but there was always something about when, like, you would watch a TNT and, like, the hoops on T&T. And you're like, ah, weeks almost over. And be like, bro, basically. It's the first time that you start to smile for the weekend.
Starting point is 00:02:57 My week's over, basically. At that point, I'm like, yo, tomorrow's Friday. We're phoning in on Friday. That's what it was. Not like we do. We phone it in every day. Well, our boss is right here. Well, you know.
Starting point is 00:03:09 So we can. can't really, we can't say that on wax. That's all right. That's nuts. That's insane. Brother, we got to get promoted, you know what I mean? You can't just, can't be out here like, they be like, hey, yo, Steve, we're trying to promote Steve. Like, ah, he was on a podcast. He said he phoned it in every day. Ah, you can't.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Now that I mean, Steve? Come on, man. Hey, listen. Come on, brother. Your B-sides are my singles. Oh. No way. I can't. We all can't be you, Jomey. We can't. We can't. Nobody can be me.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm really one-on-one. You really are. All right, but let's talk about what's going to be coming out this week before we get to what we're going to be talking about. We've already, by the time you're hearing this, we'll have been talking about the Andor season two trailer that came out this past Monday with the Midnight Boys. As well as talking about some DC news about the projects that were going on there. A lot of things to be discussed. So much. As well as for the rest of this week, Midnight Boys are going to be giving you their daredevil primer as well as.
Starting point is 00:04:10 House Var, and they're going to be covering yellow jackets as well for the rest of the week, as well as this month's Ringervis recommends. Steve, quick question. Who is Cave Daddy? Who is Cave Daddy? You know what? That's pretty much the eternal question that we've all trying to be figuring out for years. But you know who's going to figure it out first?
Starting point is 00:04:30 Mal and Joe. Mal and Joe. That's exactly right. And you could only find that on the Ringervis feed. But, Jomey, where would people want to follow up on those things? Where would we be found on the internet? If we want to get found on the internet and you want to know the answer to who
Starting point is 00:04:44 Mal and Joe think Cave Daddy is, you can go online and follow us on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook at Ringiverse, and we will answer all your questions and more, except on Facebook. Nobody's watching the Facebook. You guys, it's free reign over there.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Don't abandon the folks. Nah, I got things to do, man. It's just, it is what it is. So that's just, that's the unsupervised McDonald's. Yeah, y'all got it. You know, we're all adults. You know what I mean. They can fend for themselves there.
Starting point is 00:05:14 You know, handle, do what you need to do. Be respectful. Be responsible. And then the day, what I'm not going to do is like, all right, guys, got to go check this Facebook group. I got meetings. You know what I mean? It's not, it's not the budget, you know?
Starting point is 00:05:28 So, y'all got it. I trust you guys. You're smart adults. We love you. You know, do your thing over there. But like, hey, yo, where's Jomi? He's not checking Facebook. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Speaking of that, one final thank you. We debuted two great videos that came out last week. We did. We had a wonderful video essay about some of the top. The top 20 Avatar episodes. Like definition of locked in, definition of somebody being in their bag. Did what I could. Thank you for everybody who was very nice about it.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I thought people would be meaner and they weren't. So that was really nice. Thank you. Same. And we also came out with a new tabletop role-playing adventure called Ringer Quest. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you guys. for watching and enjoying that. We're really excited for what we did.
Starting point is 00:06:14 And we love you guys for showing out and show in love for that. That was really, really special. Steve, I'm going to spend so much money on dice. It's absurd. You're going to spend so much money on dice? So much. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:06:25 I'm going to get an expense because it's a work expense, baby. Let me tell you something. You can run the credit card up with some dice. Let me tell you. I'm going to get some dice. I'm going to get a cloak. You know, I don't be out here, bro. But next time, I'm just be out here like, what's up?
Starting point is 00:06:41 You guys can't see me, but I'm holding a fake cloak. I think you're a gown guy. I think you're definitely a gown guy. I'm a cloak guy. Like a little, you know, cloaks with some, cloak with some pockets. I don't know. I've seen you at those Nigerian family parties, man. Big gown man.
Starting point is 00:06:56 But it's heavy, you know what I'm saying? It's always, it's like, it's a lot of fabric. I like the, I want to be quick on my feet. That's fair. I want to be able to escapeability. Escapability. Escapeability. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:06 You got to know where the ex is hard at all times. Okay. Okay. You got to have your vanishing smoke in your pocket. So when stuff starts going down, you throw the smoke and you're out of there. Right. That's the gambit. It's like, you never said thank you.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I never have to. You never have to. Exactly. Well, what are we doing today, Jomey? Animation time, baby. We got to talk. Spidey, Invincible, Harley Quinn. We got some Avatar news and Pantheon came back.
Starting point is 00:07:37 but we, you know what I'm saying? Hey, I can give you a clear out for Pantheon. I can give you a little clear out of that. There's a lot going on, so we got to get into it. Exactly. All right. So now some of you may be wondering, hey, you might have mentioned 11 on 11 that you guys were doing.
Starting point is 00:07:50 We can get to that a little bit later because, frankly, a lot of it happened in the past week while we were away that we actually wanted to talk about. There's a bit more prescient news from some of the shows that we're coming out with. Starting with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Spoilers for Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. the entire season is now out. Everything's come out.
Starting point is 00:08:09 We are now fully caught up. We talked about this a little bit for the season premiere, and now we've gotten to see the entire season. Jomey, what are your thoughts on this season of television?
Starting point is 00:08:19 I was really impressed. I'm not going to lie to you. Everybody knows that when we first got a look at this show and all the stuff were seen before it came out, I was not, it did not move me,
Starting point is 00:08:31 not a single inch. I was like, this might be hot Garbo. And it wasn't. It was legitimately a fun watch. I had oodles and oodles of fun getting to know these characters. I mean, obviously, Peter, but Nikki, a new version of Harry and Norman. Lonnie.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Like, it was just, it was so well done in a way that I, I forgot that we used to make, you know, real TV in this country. And this reminded me, this gave me, I mean, obviously, X-Men 97, notwithstanding, but it reminded me of like what a cool Marvel show could look like again. I don't know if you ever watched Spider-Man the Disney X-D one, not Ultimate Spider-Man. I did see Ultimate Spider-Man. I don't know if I'm watching what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Okay, so they had the new joint, the newer Spider-Man. I want to say like Spider-Man, 2017, whatever. Oh, okay. Brotherman, like I almost made me hate Spider-Man. I'm not going to lie to you. Really? I was hot, brother. It did not have any.
Starting point is 00:09:36 of the juice about a Spider-Man show should have. And this show brought it back, man. This show brought the juice back to Spidey, bro. I really owe this show an apology. I was not familiar with your game. Exactly. I think we were rather dismissive about how the show looked.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Well, I mean, let's be honest. Be honest. It did not look great initially. And frankly, watching the show, I'm like, okay, this is growing on me a little bit. It's grown on me. That's what it was, right? Because initially, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:10:04 again, we only saw like eight second bits. Yeah. And which is definitely not a good palette taster for this show. Right. But I think to your point, once you get into it, it's kind of like, okay, cool. This is what this is. I understand what they're doing here. We're rocking it.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Boom, we're out. Like, you don't even think about anymore. Yeah. So, but the main thing that I actually, my biggest takeaway from this show is the importance of kind of an ensemble character study. it comes to making a cool Spider-Man story. Yeah. This show really did that in a way that I don't think we've seen a lot of in most Spider-Man stories.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Like, knowing that, like, all of the people that surround Peter have weight to all of his decisions and that actually, like, both enable him, buoy him, and hold him back from certain things that are really, like, kind of integral. This, like, entire, like, Tombstone B plot that we got for the rest of the rest of the game. of this season actually kind of brilliant. Yeah. And something that, like, I genuinely didn't even consider could be that compelling until, like,
Starting point is 00:11:16 we're, like, halfway through, and we don't even get to Doc Ock yet. And I'm, like, fully invested in, like, oh, my God, he's got, he's in too deep with this gang. He's, like, he was kind of in it for the right reasons. It's like, I'll trade you my brother for me to get into this. I was thoroughly impressed at the idea that the characters surrounding Peter really are the things that matter and how Pete responds to all of those plights
Starting point is 00:11:42 is actually what gives Spider-Man stories their juice. Do we have like a kind of MVP of the season outside of Peter? Because I feel like we've got a couple. I mean, I see, and this is how I know. People would be like, man, Marvel's cook, it's over. They had Coma Domingo doing,
Starting point is 00:12:02 and Norman Osborne for fun. Man was just like, hey, yo, here's a bag, need you in the studio, three days, max,
Starting point is 00:12:11 hit your lines and bounce. And he did his thing. As Norman, it was like, it was menacing in a way that I was, I was kind of like, oh,
Starting point is 00:12:20 this is what we, this is what we doing? Okay. Like when he tells Peter, he doesn't say with great power comes great responsibility. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:12:28 But, like, you got to earn that, you got to go earn their respect. Yes. You got to lock in. And frankly, we've seen so many variations of who says great power, great responsibility. I never even considered the idea that if somebody gets to Peter early enough before he hears something like that, he'll hear a variant of that that actually is the wrong philosophy. But it fits perfectly for this Norman to say that to him.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And we haven't really gotten full like green goblin cackling, menacing Norman Osborne quite yet. But I'm fascinated at how he's both compelled to help Peter because he's intrigued at what the power he offers to genuinely help people. I think it genuinely comes from the idea that he's grateful that Peter helped his son. And that begins a sort of interesting power dynamic between the two of them where Norman has all of these toys and gadgets and technology at Peter's side to be able to help him that leads him down that same path of like, oh, do I really need the suit or do I really need to be me?
Starting point is 00:13:37 And again, it's all of these very interesting variations of what makes a good Spider-Man story great. And that brings me to the watcher of it all. What? The three seconds you saw a watcher? Left an impression? It did. It genuinely did because for a second, I see that.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And I'm like, oh, God, what is this now? Is Captain Carter about to show up? Hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm not, I can't co-sign. No, no, no. It's an Easter egg. Stand with me for a second. I will not stand with you.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Stay with me for a second. It's because, like, you don't put that in there for nothing in my way. Like, I don't think this is going to turn into, like, a what-if, like, scenario of, like, oh, my God, the universe is going to implode and he's going to be fighting with Captain Carter, yada, yada, yada. That's not the thing. It's the concept of what, what-if actually means. Why are you laughing? Brother, it's an Easter egg, man. It's just a psych gag, man.
Starting point is 00:14:38 We see it, he's part of a larger universe, we move on. I get it. You deep in it, you deep in it. Stick with me now. Seeing the watcher, it was like, oh, wow, what if we get a what if story, like, to the idea that this could be an extended one whole season. If we got one whole season of a what if story that we really liked, how invaluable could that be? How great is that? Like, applying that, like, yes, it's an Easter egg,
Starting point is 00:15:05 but I liked the idea of just being like, oh, this is just going to, like, Marvel kind of, like, uncoiling itself being like, hey, this is just going to be a fun thing that we do while also making the watcher being part of something bigger. I've liked that. And it doesn't make, like, the third season of what-if, any shinier in my eyes.
Starting point is 00:15:22 But for some reason, I was just like, ah, maybe that's how you actually deploy these variations and these twists on fun stories in the right way or in a more palatable way to me. Gotta be honest, big dog. I seen him. I was like, oh, look, it's the watcher. And I completely, that was it.
Starting point is 00:15:39 That was the end of it. That's fair? You was, you was really thinking about it. I was. Because first I was mad. And then I was like, well, wait, why am I mad? Let's break this down. I can be introspective here.
Starting point is 00:15:51 There's no reason to be mad. It's the wise, you know, it's kind of like the Stanley stuff. You know, it's the watcher and all the, I think, he's in all the animated stuff so far. Like in the X-Men 97 in this show was just a little look the watchers right there. He's watching. That's what he does. He's a watcher.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Could he just be a harbinger of doom? No, I don't think it's just like this is a, that was a pivotal moment for Peter, right? Talking to Dr. Strange and he's asked to Dr. Strange, like, yo, you're from the future. Like, you've been to the future. What does, what it look like for me? He's like, you're straight.
Starting point is 00:16:24 That's a huge moment for Peter. And like, it's all going to be okay. and, you know, the watcher, he likes to, you know, sit in the third chair and, like, look and just be like, oh, this was a big moment in people's lives. I want to be there for that. That's all that was.
Starting point is 00:16:41 That's all that was. And that's fine. Maybe I could be overthinking it, but, like, for some reason, it felt refreshing to me. To feel like, okay, maybe they're not actually spoiling the idea of variant stories.
Starting point is 00:16:56 No. And making things that, are both familiar and different at the same time. I like the idea of them just kind of like leaning into that a bit more. And that felt that felt nice to me. I mean, that's, yeah, that's all the show was essentially. It's just like a little remix of what we knew Peter Parker to be, at least in the MCU.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Instead of, you know, meeting up with Tony Stark, it's Norman Osborne, right? And instead of him going to Germany to fight in the Civil War, he's still in New York and he's getting help being Spider-Man with Norman and saving Harry and all that stuff he was up to. But it's the same flavor but in a different look. And I think that worked. I know we saw some stuff from Civil War like him saving the van with the bus. Yep.
Starting point is 00:17:45 You know, and some of the stuff that we're familiar with. But it was just packaged differently in a way that I think really, really shined on screen. And we talked about it earlier, but I think the magic of the show really is. how the world outside Spider-Man worked in this show. You know, we spend a lot of time with Nico. We spent a lot of time with Harry. We spent a lot of time with Lonnie. And it doesn't feel like, yo, we're Spider-Man at.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Like, let's get back. You know, like, a lot of the times you get into a show, you start spending time with ancillary characters and people on the outskirts and you're like, get back to the sauce. Get back to the goods. Where we're at? But everybody's compelling in their own way.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Everybody's compelling in their own way in this show. And I think that was, that's the magic sauce that made this show work, was that not a second of it felt boring or kind of useless. It all felt like this is something that matters right now. And so even though the show was woke, you know, it was so good. Okay, Jomey, top three ways that the show was woke, go. Super woke. Carla Connors, super woke. Super woke.
Starting point is 00:18:52 You know what I'm saying? Not white. Great. Right. Also a woman? That's insane. Um, what else? Uh, uh, I don't know who Pearl, Pearl is.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Okay. You know what I'm saying? Never heard of her before. Hmm. That's crazy. Uh, and then there were just too many black people in the show in general. Okay. There's a lot, a lot of black people.
Starting point is 00:19:14 No, seriously, though. Uh, this is why, like, we, I think we've talked about this on a separate podcast, probably like Midnight Boys, but the representation is important, like, actually. Of course. And so, I mean, and then we. We talked about it on the previous Spidey pod. Yes. Where we were like, that was a dumb quote.
Starting point is 00:19:32 And it's even dumber in retrospect, like after watching the show, because it's like, oh, it's not woke and this and that. It's like, brother. It just is. It's just, like, that's, but it's not even about being woke. It's about this is what the world is now. This is what TV is now. Like, you don't have to be, you don't have to be constrained by, well, we wrote him as a man
Starting point is 00:19:56 with a torn off arm in the 19 in 1987 whatever so that's what it has to be forever it has to be only that and that forever it has to be only that and that forever no right the show you know did a great job you know we got amadez chow you know we got finesse who is like I was I had to google that one I'm not going to lie to you I'm not going to like I'm not going to like to you listen I saw daredevil talking to someone I was like hey who the hell dare devil protege hey dare devil Worth the Google for that one. Definitely worth a Google. It was like, oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Listen, it's not like the obscure Batman villains, like Condiment King or something. Like, we, like, we got somebody with a dedicated story here. I had no idea what was going on. I was like, what? But no, like, they just, there's a silly comment that made no sense, like at the time and even after watching the show, it's even less sensical.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Because, I mean, again, The show's not woke. Maybe it's just like The Watcher. It's to prove you're part of the bigger world. Exactly. It's just a reflection of the way the world is now, the way life is now. I think the show was legitimately surprising and very, very, very good. I can't wait for season two, even though people are mad that Gwen Stacy's showing out.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Why would we be mad about that? So it's a problem, right? I'm not mad. I'm not mad. What are people saying? People are saying. People are saying. because so they post the image of Gwen Stacy coming up.
Starting point is 00:21:29 They're like, hey, Gwen's showing up, cool. Yeah, hey. And then they posted a picture of Spider, Gwen. And then people are like, ah, you can't give this dude one more show. You can't give him a show by himself no more. You always got to throw Spotted people on that. Oh, for God's sake. It's like, guys.
Starting point is 00:21:41 It's almost like these characters are popular, and it's really good when you put all of them together in the same place. Guys, it's 2025. This is what this is now. Let's lock in. You know, this is that. Even in the ultimate Spider-Man show, uh web warriors by season three miles was there you know so they had don't warriors plural but yes they had they had don't gover playing uh miles morales yeah back then like it's since ever since spider getting
Starting point is 00:22:06 this is kind of what this world is now there's one spider man best believe there are other spider people yeah coming around it's been almost a decade guys let's let's ease it up let's we we know just said we know better right we know better let's be let's be smarter about this right and so we'll see what it looks like i'm again i'm excited for a new season of TV, I think what they did Coleman Domingo, obviously. We didn't talk about Charlie Cox coming in who...
Starting point is 00:22:34 That was real fun. I mean, it was fun. He definitely was like, he had three hours. Oh, barely. If that. I'll tell you what. He was probably on set when they were shooting Daredevil. They put a mic in front of him. And they were like, hey, we got 30 minutes. Here's a scene. Go. But it was nice to hear him.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Again, we're going to see him in a couple weeks, which is nice as well. I like the all-black Daredevil suit. All-black Daredevil suit was cool. He's still got to earn the letters, unfortunately. That's fine. Yeah, you got to earn the DD on your chest. You know, that's how it gets done. But ultimately, I think this show was a success.
Starting point is 00:23:16 And we're hopefully going to get, actually, we're are going to get more. Seasons 2 and 3 have been, you know, announced. So we're going to get 20 more episodes, hopefully, in this world. And it's going to be, I'm going to be there day one. Yeah, I'm excited. Can't wait. Can't wait. Very excited.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I can't wait. I can't wait for Coleman Domingo to show up in the Spider-Man movie as a Dorman Osborne as well and be Green Goblin. In live action? I mean, I don't know. Probably, maybe, you know. That would be a crazy get. Not really.
Starting point is 00:23:45 You already got it. Brother, you're already in the building. Hey, listen, animation fees and on-camera fees, very different. I mean, does he win the Oscar? Then it's very different. That is very different. Here's the thing, though. They're shooting Spider-Man 4, I believe pretty soon.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I don't know if that's happening after the Oscars, though. But here's the thing. If he's in it, if he's in Spider-Man 4, he's booked already. He's booked pre-Oscar money. Yeah, but not pre-Oscar money. Maybe. I guess, yeah, I guess you'd have him. Yeah, you'd have them.
Starting point is 00:24:12 But no, I just think the show did what it had to do. Again, surprise me. And, yeah, I can't like to see what is in sore for that world. I'm ashamed. I underestimated this. We have to talk about this. Oh? We talked about a little bit on the original pod, but the theme song was terrible.
Starting point is 00:24:32 And it remains so. And the problem, the thing that makes me so upset about it. Okay. It's not only like the samples, fire, right? You know, the original. Sure. Here comes the spotter, man. I'm like, yo.
Starting point is 00:24:42 The first time I'm like, okay, hey. Then the lyrics, you're like, ah, this is not it, right? But then the song at the end, when the credits roll. Right. Is gas. It's pretty good. It's gas.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I'm like, yo, so I know y'all can write. I know y'all got it. Mm-hmm. I know y'all got it. And I tell you what, they have these,
Starting point is 00:25:01 like, I love the, like, animation sequence that is the intro because it has, like, all of these cool little, like, variant suits.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Yeah. And they have the little, like, comic stamp on the corner with different, yeah. Issue, whatever episode title it is.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Like, it's really good. It's clever. It's nice. Song is still not doing it for me. Song is not moving me. automatic skip, which is unfortunate, because I literally sit through the credits to listen to that song.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Dun-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. I'm like, yo, this is- Put a rap on that. Nah, well, somebody might not mean. Somebody could. Somebody could. I won't. Hey, man. I'm just thinking about, just spitball in here next time, next season.
Starting point is 00:25:42 You know what I'm saying? Maybe get, uh... Get back in the stew for that one. What's two chains doing right now? You could get, can you? Do you think two chains would do that? Yes. Yes?
Starting point is 00:25:50 For a check, first of all, this is nothing to do nothing. He was, he was on his last album with Larry June, rap circles around that guy. He still got it. He did. Kerm, he did. Kerm, he did. Kerm, he did.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Kerm, he did. I like Larry June. Larry June is that guy. It was two different weight classes, Big Dog. It was two different way classes. You know, I like Joe. I like his opinions when it comes to, you know, nerd culture stuff. What the fuck does Jomey know about music?
Starting point is 00:26:22 I'm not. Jomey's pods. What does he know about hip hop? That guy. No, no. That two chains was, oh my gosh. I was like, yo, Larry, time to get in a wait for, man. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:33 Well, stay tuned for Jomey and Kerm fighting outside of the pod studio over that album. Let's move on to Invincible. Episodes 4 and 5 came out of season three. Spoilers ahead, by the way, for Invincible. All of Invincible. All of Invincible. No comics talk. No comics talk.
Starting point is 00:26:50 No, let's keep it. Let's keep it light. Let's keep it light. People, you know, people are not, the season's not even done yet, so let's not even, let's not go there. Okay, we talk about stuff that the invincible account has,
Starting point is 00:27:00 the invincible people have talked about. Okay, fine. Openly and publicly, cool. Okay, that's all good. Got it. All right. Episodes four and five. What did you think, buddy?
Starting point is 00:27:07 I think the episodes were excellent. I think we're having a good time. People are always going to be like, every time nothing crazy happens, like, it's filler. How could you? A lot. And our good friend,
Starting point is 00:27:19 Joanna Robinson has said that character development is not filler. It is not. And I think that's what- You all need to understand what a bottle episode actually is. Yeah, I don't even know you started. Shout out community. But I thought episode four did an amazing job of getting the plot across, especially like the larger plot with Battle Beast, Alan, and Nolan.
Starting point is 00:27:41 And then we learned so much about Mark in episodes four and five. I'm not going to say I was right about Immortal, but, you know, y'all, Y'all know my take. I ain't got to say it. You know, listen, I love, I love Jomey. Who I love more, humble Jomey. Listen, I told y'all he was whack. And then what was he in episode four?
Starting point is 00:27:59 He was whacked. But Mark coming to terms with what he might have to become in order to be successful at this hero business is one of the highlights of the comics. It's one of the highlights of the show thus far. And just seeing him struggle with, yo, you got to make, you got to make big decisions. I mean, this is stuff that happened in episode two, right?
Starting point is 00:28:25 When he's got a, he's got the argument with Cecil and whatnot. It basically becomes just, like, he's struggling with having to be like, yo, I've got all this power, but I can't, I can't do too much. I don't want to be like my dad. But the only way I can be successful in the way I can keep my family safe, you'll keep people off me, is to be. like my dad. And it's a tug of war in his brain that he's struggling with. The beauty of both this show and the comics of Invincible to me has been...
Starting point is 00:28:59 Say no, no, no, I'm not saying it. I'm just saying these... No spoilers. The comics have both of these things in common. What makes both of these things great is the idea that having these real world decisions and the ratcheting of stakes in a superhero template really, really affects Mark in a way that... that we don't see that often in comic book storytelling because it's compounded with family issues, with his dad, with everything that he has to do with the guardians. And everything that is approached
Starting point is 00:29:36 when it comes to Mark's decision making is first assessed through the lens of, well, I was just a kid, like a year ago, year and a half ago, I didn't need to make all of these decisions and it really hammers home the idea that he has to fight who he's been for 17 years of his life
Starting point is 00:29:58 and at no point neither in the in the comics or the show have we lost to that have we kind of like he's always struggling with this and like unsympathetic viewers might think oh my god why can't he just man up and make this call or do the right thing or figure this out where you're like, no, he's really still
Starting point is 00:30:19 very much a kid. I mean, we joke about these things out. We joke about it. I mean, I've said this multiple times where I'm like, for a guy named Invincible, he's the most invincible dude. We've ever seen. Highly Vinsible. Highly invincible. Been staplesable. Jesus crap. Boo. Tomato, tomato. Yeah. But
Starting point is 00:30:36 the reason is because like he could like go crazy, but he don't want to do that. Right. That's not where he wants to be. And so, you know, we saw it in episode one, right, with the multi-Paul and how he was like once he locked in he was just like tearing him apart whereas like he didn't when he didn't really feel like he needed to do that he was getting overwhelmed right and so it's just a matter of he didn't want to kill the immortal right he's like I don't want
Starting point is 00:31:02 to do this I don't want to be a murderer begging for death any more to begging for death brother begging another man to kill you is crazy I mean for a man that's lived for centuries upon centuries. Instead, so not really, it's not really a spoiler, it's just like context clues, right? Immortal was left on earth to be in charge and was like, I need to die, but I need to be killed.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And so in order to do that, not just like, hey, yo, Invisible, not call them up on the phone or any of that, subjugated people to thousands of thousands of years of tyranny so that hopefully one day, Invisible might come back and kill him. brother, stand up, be a man. Okay, I said I wasn't going to do it.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I said I wasn't going to do it. I mean, listen, that's a solid, that's a fair and solid take. I'm just saying, you're just, you're being mortal. You know what I mean? You're supposed to be the guy, but you just, again, not doing it again. But isn't that like a great contrast to, like,
Starting point is 00:32:00 the hero that you are slated to become or you're supposed to be, and all of your personal machinations completely pervert you into something that is completely, not what you're supposed to be, and you just want to die. Think about that with what Mark's going to be. Mark's going to live for thousands of years. And like the ethos of the first season,
Starting point is 00:32:21 at the end of the first season, when his dad's like, everything you love is going to crumble and die around you. Turn to dust. And turn to dust. What will you have after that? It's like, I'm going to have my dad. Oh, you do?
Starting point is 00:32:30 And that's the only thing that he wants after all of those things. For something like the immortal, all those things are gone and he doesn't even have somebody. That's great. He doesn't even have those things. And he's lived for far, longer than Mark has.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Yeah. He freed the slave, shout out. Yeah. He did. You signed the emancipation proclamation. Shout out. Did he also like me right? Sorry about all that.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Jesus Christ. I sure hope not. No. No, but yeah, I mean, it, again, this is for Mark's growth, again, very important. I mean, he goes back to Eve. He's like, yo, did I do the right thing? And shout out Eve. Eve's been a real champ, you know?
Starting point is 00:33:08 Frankly, like an astonishingly good girlfriend here. Amazingly good girlfriend because Mark got a lot going on. And you see a man with those kind of problems, you kind of, you want to run or go the other way. Right? His daddy, a murderer. And he kind of gives her an out more or less. Like, you don't got to do all this. I mean, they were like, they were moving kind of fast.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Shout out to them for like knowing it. Because, you know, how we can move in. Dude, this is like, yo, hey, you're 19, my man. I know you got the superpowers of a guy. But like, come on, man. Let's call him a chill. You know what I mean? Speak.
Starting point is 00:33:40 It's one of my favorite gags in the comics and they kind of did bring it to the show when they're having sex in Mark's room and Debbie's not an idiot. Right, yeah. Debbie is not an idiot. She's like, I know you guys are upstairs getting it on.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Like, who do you think? You think you raised a fool? Yeah. By the way, is this a safe space? It's just the two of us right here, right? Sure. Debbie with their hair down? Okay. This is no longer a safe place.
Starting point is 00:34:12 We're shutting that door. It is no longer safe. Just saying. You are shunned. I'm just saying. Shunned? I was not familiar with her game. Not another word spoken.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Nah, that's a beautiful. We're going to, we're going to carry on as if this didn't happen. Maybe Nolan was calling her a pet. That's crazy. I'm not to see him. Hey, listen. Can Nolin fight is all I'm asking. Yes, he can.
Starting point is 00:34:35 He can very much. He can very much can fight. He's destroyed whole planet. Invincible, can you fight. fight. You definitely can't. Were your mom. You're like, no, no, it's not like that. It is like that. For you, we your mom.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Jomi's like, no, no, no, no, Mark, it's not like that. It's like, I'm sorry. Unfortunately, it is like that. Mark, Oliver, Omni, man, can y'all fight? What y'all, let's run it. What you are trying to do? You, uh, you can, okay, we're going to, we're going to make sure, we're going to take a quick break. No, hold on. We're going to give Jomi some water. First of all, first of all, listen, I'm just saying we got a, Y'all hating, but I'm not holding space for this. Yeah, okay, Mr. You saw three seconds of the watcher, and you had a whole ex-mosé about how that's bad for Marvel, the MCU, and our world going forward.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Right, right, right. I see a nice little woman with her hair down, and I'm like, hey, actually, she's beautiful. How dare you? Right. How dare you? Did you also, like, ask her out to prom and then take her glasses off and just like, oh, my God, you're so. All I'm saying, like, she was always, she's always pretty, but the hair down, I was, I was like, Whoa.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Okay. You know? All right. No. We got three more episodes. We know what's coming. Sure. Because we've read the comics.
Starting point is 00:35:53 But the only thing that Dave officially announced is Powerplex. At some point. And that is, like, these next three episodes. Crucial. I mean, crucial is, like, an easy way of putting it. Yeah. First of all, could you imagine if they had a mid-season break at this point? I would have not.
Starting point is 00:36:17 No, it's a wrap. Nah, nah, get out the pain. Very, very glad they took the notes. Like, again, exceedingly glad they took the notes. Yes, yes. But these three episodes, I mean, in the comics, it's kind of crazy how, like, like, they just, like, go. Yeah, it all happens very quickly.
Starting point is 00:36:31 It does not, it does not ease up at all. Sort of like one thing to the other thing to the other thing. And so these episodes, like, again, crucial is not, is, understanding it, I feel like, if they can land the plane with these next three episodes, we might. I mean, I already said it was kind of back, but then we started, we got to start putting in. I think we'd definitely be back if they land the plane for this season. I think they'll be, like, we'll still have to have, like, serious discussions about, like, how,
Starting point is 00:36:59 like, what kind of level we're putting the show on. Because I think thus far, they've shown, in episode four, like, the last 20 minutes, they've shown that we can, you know, have a good battle and have those kind of character moments with Nolan and Allen having their heart to heart in Oh, definitely. Filtry Prison. And so, again, if they can do what they need to do in episode six, seven, and eight, we will be back officially locked in, Invincible's back.
Starting point is 00:37:26 We got to start talking about it. Like, we were talking about it at the end of season one, you know, and start putting it back into those high-level conversations because I cannot wait for episode six, seven, and eight, brother. Big things to come. Big things to come. All right, let's take a quick break, and then we will talk about Harley Quinn. This episode is brought to you by Spectrum Business. Starting point is 00:39:30 This is how I know we've lost the plot. Show got five seasons. We're like, ah, it's geriatric. Here's the thing. In the streaming era, that's a good long time. So used to run. So used to have 10 plus seasons. I understand. This is 2025. We don't get by a,
Starting point is 00:39:46 Five seasons and stuff. Bro, it's the same way. Like, oh, you're 30? Oh, brother, here's your AARP card. First of all, first of all, you do not need to be an old person to join the AARP. You can join that right now. You don't, but it's still like- Senior discounts on movies could be yours right now.
Starting point is 00:40:00 They could be, but you still got to play the fee, right? I mean, yeah, but it's a nominal fee. It's a nominal fee. I mean, listen, you can do your own research, but again, you don't need to be old to join the AARP. The long and short of it is, brother, a show getting five seasons. We're celebrating it like, It's going out to pass.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Oh, no, no, no. Gold medal's in the Olympics. Like, hats off to you guys. You got five seasons. And frankly, I'm very proud of this show. I truly am. What do you think about this season? I've seen the first three episodes of this season.
Starting point is 00:40:32 I'm, I like it. I think it's better than a couple seasons already. Oh, okay. Only because of the setup. I really, really like the premise of this season. What do you think? What are your initial thoughts? So I'm all caught up.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Okay. And the thing that's working for me, and I think it's always been, I think like Bella's always been really great in this show. Like her line delivery, her atlips, like all that stuff is just like hilarious and very, very well done.
Starting point is 00:41:01 She's very like somehow curt, but also like emotional and like overall very funny. This season, it's taken to a whole other level, I think, because she is the heart. of, I mean, she's the heart of this season, right? For sure.
Starting point is 00:41:18 Her stuff with Woodrow, when Frank dies, it's very, very, very emotional, right? It's a whole, yes. It's a whole thing that I think the show has, I mean, I want to say realize, because, again, she's had her moments in the series of this far, Jizzapajza, or Jazepa Jizza. Jazza, yeah, yeah. But this season, this season specifically, it's very much like, oh, now, they're letting her cook. Right. And really show off her talents.
Starting point is 00:41:52 I think it's, I don't say character to show because, you know, Harley's been, Harley's been good. Aisha Tyler, as Lena has been solid. Obviously, Jitric Bader as Batman comes and does his thing. But Lake Bell as Poison and Ivy this season is doing a lot of the legwork and making me care about this character. characters and this show, and it's worked amazingly thus far. I think it speaks to really what not only makes this show good, but what makes a good sitcom good, is, again, like I said with Spider-Man, the interplay between our main characters around an ensemble actually is what makes this show good as well.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Harley and Ivy obviously are the beating heart of this show. Ivy, in particular for this one, which I really like that she's getting a bit more of a front-seat action. Get some shine. Yeah, for sure. I'm not going to say that the show ever really lost its way, but I would like to think that maybe around late season four, maybe early season four,
Starting point is 00:42:53 is when I wasn't really connecting with the show that I would have been in, say, season one. Because to me, that was just magic. We're psycho. Huh? We're psycho. I mean, listen, that's the question always and forever. I was thinking about it the other day.
Starting point is 00:43:07 I was like, where is that guy? Because like King Shark, you know, he's got his own thing going on. Sure, sure. that whole initial group of people, I was like, man, it's... Don't you miss them? It's like, yeah, it's been a minute.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Not to be like, oh, man, I miss the old days and all that stuff. It's like, again, I think the show has... No, yeah, it's never going to go back to what season one was. And frankly, I'm good, I'm happy about that. Because you want to iterate, you want to find new ways to put these characters into different scenarios and have them grow. I'm glad that we can have something that's ultimately refreshing, because as much as I didn't quite care for season four,
Starting point is 00:43:44 I think season five is actually coming in with a lot of goodwill for me. Knowing that Ivy is kind of at the center of this is really my main draw. And I know that the next question in the docket here is, will Steve finish this season of television? I will. Maybe not in a timely fashion, but I will. At some point. A lot going on.
Starting point is 00:44:03 There's a lot of game left, you know, between now and 2097. I'm on the beating heart of severance. Yellow Jackets, the pit, and traitors, okay? So we got a lot to do. I heard good things about the pit. Listen, if you want, don't be careful with the pit. Why is all I'll say. That'll rip your heart out, okay?
Starting point is 00:44:24 Oh, no. Not the pit. It's great. It's gonna, I'm just gonna put my heart in the pits. No, it'll, it'll, okay, I can't, you know what? I don't have a metaphor for this one. That's stuff. not look a lot of
Starting point is 00:44:40 stuff going on on max you got white lotus you got the pit you got uh Harley Quinn you know but the main thing is don't bail out on Harley no don't do that
Starting point is 00:44:50 don't do that it's good TV it is it's good TV um what would you like to see from the from the end of this season uh
Starting point is 00:44:59 well they they have given us brainiac right uh and like I think that again like weirdly emotional episode of TV
Starting point is 00:45:08 that episode of which just Braniac losing his family. We'll find out that Coco's been dead for thousands of years. A very long time. And it's just bones. And I was like, oh, my God. These guys talk to an imaginary alien monkey grass a lot. And it's, oh my gosh, bro. Watching episode, the latest episode, I believe it's episode six.
Starting point is 00:45:29 And Brandiak is, you know, pontificating. And then he turns to the camera. And he's like, but I know you're watching. And I was like, yo. It's like that meme? Me? It's funny at myself. Talking to me?
Starting point is 00:45:42 Like, literally like speaking to the audience as like, like, I mean, not even breaking the fourth wall is generous. He puts his foot through the fourth wall and talks to his audience. It's like a master stroke and emotional storytelling. I think the show this season has found a way to emotionally connect with the audience in a different way that they have in the first fourth season. And like you said, it's keeping it new. It's keeping it interesting. And so, yeah, I'm definitely going to be excited to finish the rest of the season.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I can't wait to see how they bring Frank back because, God forbid, that Frank is left the dead. That's right. It really feels good to know that that the show has not, like, lost its step when it comes to, like, emotional poignancy and how relevant that is to making a good story when it comes to this show. That's ultimately about, like, violence and jokes. Violence, murder, sex jokes, completely and utterly devoid of any type of restraint. Right. But it's still a hallmark, I think, of an era where you could have, I mean, think about it. This show was on DC Universe.
Starting point is 00:46:55 They were like, we need some stuff. We put Young Justice on there, season three, was put the Harley Quinn show on there. And that's the one that survived through it all. Right. And we have hearts come. Even with the new James Gunn and Peter Saffron running joint thing over there, we're still getting Holly Quinn, right? I think that means something.
Starting point is 00:47:16 It's the reason why, you know, you're shocked to hear, oh, it's still going on after five seasons. But, you know, this is how TV used to get made, and I'm really glad that they're still making it. Amen. Speaking of restraint, Jomey, we got some Avatar news. Oh, man. I want you to walk us through this,
Starting point is 00:47:34 and I want you to get this takeoff. that you've been wanting to do. You've been talking to me about this since this past weekend. Okay. So here's what's occurred. They announced a new Avatar series from the creators, their original creators, right? Rike are coming back to make a brand new avatar show. Animated 2D, 26 episodes, cut in half across two seasons.
Starting point is 00:48:00 So 13 and 13. That is about an avatar that's a twin who has to, who instead of being celebrated as the avatar is being hunted as the avatar because of something that Cora did in her past life. And people went crazy. One, because the new Avatar series,
Starting point is 00:48:21 I'm very excited. And two, and I'm still seeing the discourse to this day, there are two camps of people. People who are dancing on Cora's grave, very happy that not only is she dead, but that she is being hailed as the worst avatar. He was been vindicated because of this hate. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:41 And then the Protect Corps at all cost people who were like, oh my gosh, I got to defend my queen. How could you? And my one take is that Ronald Wagan won. He did it. Ronald Wagon handled his business. Okay. Because how in God's name does that, that show come out and that's what we're doing that's what we're arguing right now are we being
Starting point is 00:49:09 serious it's very like i don't again i don't want to call people names i don't want to be mean on here but what do we think is really going to happen realistically going to happen right show's going to come out we're going to find out that oh actually cora wasn't the worst avatar ever it's a misunderstanding that somebody you know whatever villain that it is uh put upon her right and so now The next avatar has to fix that issue. That's how it's always been, right? People want to talk about Ang and them, how they were perfect. Ang was a bad dad, guys.
Starting point is 00:49:47 You know what I mean? He wasn't. He might have been a bad dad. He might have been a bad dad. Nobody talks about that, right? Ang let all his people die. Right? Let that slide.
Starting point is 00:49:58 You feel me? I'm not saying Cor was perfect either. It can't sever the connections to the past avatars, maybe leaving the Spiro, Proto's out there might have been a little bit of a mistake right but there's it's leaning one way to it's leaning all the way to one side which i think is is kind of OD like people again people are dancing on a grave it's like guys i can't imagine that the original creator is going to go back and be like actually cora did suck she was terrible that's what she did was bad stuff that's where i want
Starting point is 00:50:26 to tap in that's where we're going to do like we're not doing that like the main thing being like i'm pretty sure they they the original creators and the rest of the show were very happy with how Cora ended, regardless of how some people might have felt about it. I was like, okay with how Cora ended. I thought it was fine. I think maybe if I was,
Starting point is 00:50:44 if I would have a main critique about how Legend of Cora might have ended, maybe the writers and creatives were listening a little bit too much to the internet and not too much about like maybe the bigger story. What do you mean by that? I think maybe the late game 11th hour Khorasami confirmation might have been a bit of a misstep.
Starting point is 00:51:03 I don't know if it's a misstep, but I do think... I think that was them listening to the internet. I think two things are probably true about that. One, maybe.
Starting point is 00:51:12 I'm not mad... Here's the thing. I'm not mad about that it happened. I just feel like it was just out of, bit out of nowhere. So you have to remember, right? Yes. Right?
Starting point is 00:51:19 But you ever remember two things? One is that after season two, the Korah Sami, the Kora Asami Maka Love Triangle was not hit. But it was not hidden. It was like... No, no.
Starting point is 00:51:30 It was out there, for sure. No, no. I mean, like, the season of TV was just so, locked down by that love triangle that they literally said like, all right, we're done with that. We're,
Starting point is 00:51:38 like, we're cool off that, right? And so you don't, there's no, like, in season three, we're not having those convos. Frankly,
Starting point is 00:51:46 in season four, we're not really having those, like, conversations about, like, are people in love and all that stuff? They didn't even breadcrumb, really. Did, like,
Starting point is 00:51:54 not well, right? And so for them to end up together after that, it's kind of nuts. But at the same time, it was a different time. in storytelling to where, like, they already kicked them off the regular Nick channel.
Starting point is 00:52:11 I was putting them online, right? That's fair. It wasn't really moving. So now you have to introduce a same-sex love story in, what, 2014, 2015? And like, it seems crazy to say, but that was not, people were scared back then, right?
Starting point is 00:52:30 It's not the same. We don't, it wasn't catchedora. It wasn't Lumidy. And I'm not, and trust me, I don't want to shy away from the importance and, like, frankly, like, greatness that that that is. Like, that's a big, important moment. And I, like, I just felt like it was kind of undercut or unearned by the fact that it was, like, not as highlighted in the story. Yes. But that relating to the past Kora, like, but, like, to bring this to what we're talking about today.
Starting point is 00:52:58 But, wait, but my thing is that you're not incorrect, but you have to couch it. For sure. You have to couch it because there was, there was some stuff going on. Oh, absolutely. The second one probably is, my second point is probably more heavily weighted than my first point, but it was just,
Starting point is 00:53:14 it was just a different time. Like, people were not, like not to bring woke back and people were just not, they were like, oh, no, like people were really scared by that kind of stuff. And so like now,
Starting point is 00:53:25 it's like, you know, that's, you don't even think about it. Back then, again, it was crazy. Not even 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:53:30 No, yeah. It was very, very important. Barely not even 10 years. years ago. And it was a big moment to a lot of people. Absolutely. It was a big moment to a lot of people. So, like, I can understand why you can see and be like, ah, it's not really.
Starting point is 00:53:41 But frankly, I'm not, I don't think it's just too much going on for me to sit here and say, like, ah, it was, that moment was, was whack. And it's, and it's just an interesting projection of people's, like, distaste for how Kora's show
Starting point is 00:53:59 ended to kind of just be like, oh, well, clearly she's not liked in this new show. So this must be an affirmation about how I feel about how I didn't like how Cora ended. Like that's, I think that's a very bad faith interpretation of way to just kind of start a new story, first of all. Second of all, legends and stories and the twistings of people's legacies, it's kind of what Avatar is almost all about. Always. Yeah. It's about how Ang was remembered for like 100 plus years. It's how Cora's like dying legacy. is going to be twisted into something that people don't respect or don't like into this new show.
Starting point is 00:54:38 I'm actually intrigued by that quite a bit and how that legacy might be preserved or maybe forever tainted for no good reason. Having that loss to the annals of history is actually quite compelling to know that the avatar goes on, but people's stories actually get twisted and muddy. Yeah, all these guys mess up, right? What's it called? Curric. I've got to be saying that wrong, but the last water avatar before. before Cora, like, was not messing with the spirits at all. He got caught with, with Coat, right?
Starting point is 00:55:10 Like, he did not, he was neglected his duties as the avatar, right? Ang, we talk about him being a bad dad, right? It's kind of an overstatement, but there's an episode where Bumi, Kaya, and Tenzin are like, Tens is like, that was awesome. Well, yeah, I had a great time. Other kids are like, hey, yo, because that was yo man. Like he was taking you to all the air-bender stuff. Like he was not, he did not connect with us the same.
Starting point is 00:55:38 He got to like, oh, snap, man. Like, Ang was not as good as a father as you would probably liked him to be. You know, all these, nobody's perfect, right? And yeah, Corr made a lot of mistakes, but so did a lot of avatars. That's kind of what their thing is like, they make a mistake, they die, and then the next guy has to figure it out. Roku didn't kill Sosa. No. Roku had Buku chances to end the war.
Starting point is 00:56:04 Here's the thing, though, Kyoshi Immaculate Record. What do we talk about here? You read the books? What do we read the comics? Hey, guess what? Guess what? Fake news. How about that?
Starting point is 00:56:15 Fake news. Kiyoshi never did anything wrong in her life. It's not true, not true, not true. The thing I will say, though, and I think it's very important to mention, Team Avatar, the gang from the original series. And Cora's team, not, like, not even in the same galaxy, brother. Not in the same galaxy, brother. Mako, whack, Asami.
Starting point is 00:56:41 His gear, whack. I mean, we can talk, Marco's, like, frankly, the worst character in the entire series. Like, we can just put that on wax right now. You think so? Yeah. Like, brother, brother. Fumbled Asami. Fumbled Cora.
Starting point is 00:56:55 Brother, that's a walking L. That's an L-Mance. Bruh, I don't want nothing to do with him. Bolin was kind of cool. Bolin was kind of cool, but you got to think about it, right? Think about Qatar. That was just hymn status. You got to think about it.
Starting point is 00:57:11 Kitara, waterbedding, apology, one of the best we've ever seen. Tough, the best we've ever seen. Ang, the goat, you know. Soccer, my guy, a legend. Zucco, not the greatest firebender in the world, but could get the job done. Sure. You feel me? Outside of Kora,
Starting point is 00:57:30 who on that team on team or Koreshim are you putting above on Ang's team? Nobody. Nobody. They're losing, no diff matchups. Those guys are getting clapped every single time. Oh, forgive me. Who's the metal bending cop? Maybe her. Well, okay, Lynn Befong's a little older.
Starting point is 00:57:49 You know, she had things, but she's not, she's not her mom. That's fair. Even Toth in her like 90s, whatever, how old she was, was putting belt to ass. So prompt off That's not, you know what I mean? We're not even seeing Toph was 12 years old
Starting point is 00:58:04 12 years old and put hands on people It's not They're not in the same galaxy Brother That's the one take where everybody's Argoner online That's the one where I'm like Yeah
Starting point is 00:58:15 Yeah We had like It was team prodigy on one side We had the dream team over here You had the dream team on one side The other side You just had a bunch of dudes Right which is fine
Starting point is 00:58:25 You know But I can see why The gang You know got through their problems with a little bit less of a misstep than the other team because it was not, it was not the same.
