Starting point is 00:03:49 It just came out of, you know what I mean? We appreciate y'all, but it just came out of kind of, I was just like a take a moment. So too appreciative? No, I'm just saying, you know? It felt like a, it felt like there's a, there's a thank, thank you, and then there's a dick riding version of it, you know? Can we get to the show? Let me give you an example.
Starting point is 00:04:10 You have to leave. You told us you have to leave. You have somewhere to go. Let me give you an example of this. Just real quick. we're in a meeting one time with this kid at TMZ and it was a meeting, it was a performance meeting where he was being
Starting point is 00:04:27 basically reprimanded for something, right? That he wasn't doing right. And we're talking to him, we're talking to him, and I'm not really doing talking. I just had to be in there because I was a senior producer because I never, I don't care how you work. Like I don't give a fuck. And then after he got all of this feedback,
Starting point is 00:04:44 all negative, he gets up and he goes, well, I just want to thank you guys. And I'm like, nah, this nigga not going to make it. What specifically about to thank you made you go like, oh, he's cooked? They were blasting him the entire time. Wait, what type of hunger games as shit? Is this? Like, why do they have like a whole coliseum looking at somebody?
Starting point is 00:05:09 No, it's not the whole coliseum. It was me. I actually think that the person who brought me in with this person didn't want to do it alone. Oh, wait. Oh. This was the council. It was you and how many other people at the table? It was just me and another producer.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Okay. Oh, this is crazy. Like, Van, we got to talk to him. Let's bring him in the room. I'm like, I'm over here. Excuse me. I'm playing chess on my computer. Like, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:05:33 Like, why would I have to go here? And it's like, it doesn't care how you work. He's playing chess. It's like, Van, just come in here with me. We talked to him. And so they're in there, talk to the guy to guys. Okay, well, look, I just want to thank you. And I'm like, oh, no, you're not going to make you.
Starting point is 00:05:47 You just thanked him for kicking you. You just thanked them for kicking your ass, bro. You're going to be out of here, bro. You're going to be out of here. They fired them four days before Christmas. This is how I know band is in New York, because when you're in New York, you're like 15% more toxic.
Starting point is 00:05:58 You just get to. It's cold. It's the weather. It's so cold. Yeah. Watch how many times I lick my lips. My lips are dry. My lips like the cookkeeper, bro. I understand how this is not the world of ashy lips.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Chalky stills might be through the roof in this goddamn town. All right, let's go. Um, uh-huh. Programming my gosh. This Friday, button mash is back with a new game swap. Some of the best games you might have missed.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Button mash. Mash it up. Butt mash it up. Nicka mash it up. Mash it up. Nigger mash it up. Crazy. Button mash.
Starting point is 00:06:33 They should get Bill & Mashed to see that part. Button mash. Nick Mashed up. Button mash it up. Also on Friday. House of our return. House of our returns. With the 2023 House of Recommendations on the House of Our feed,
Starting point is 00:06:50 me and my best friend Joe had a lovely conversation last night about Doctor Who. She told me so many things I did not realize about Doctor Who, but you're going to be an expert on Doctor Who and all other things, fandom if you watch and listen to the House of Art. And on Monday, Mint Edition returns. Oh, my God! To give you their animation awards for 2023, Mint Editions. Stephen Jomi, Jomi, and Steve and Jess.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Did you guys see what Wish? It seems people aren't fucking with it. Did you guys see it over the holiday? We are good off that. I was a family man. I spent the time of my family, so I didn't get time to make it out to the theater. Is Wish Pixar? No, it's Disney animation.
Starting point is 00:07:29 It's like Frozen Moana Studio. That, okay, so from Bolt, remember Bolt, the dog? I do remember Bolt. I remember Bolt. The Bolt was good. Don't lie. No, but it was fun. Both was fun.
Starting point is 00:07:40 I like, man. Y'all need standards. We, Disney, uh, Disney's getting that ass kicked. Yes, it's right. Yeah. They say we only, quality over quantity is Disney.
Starting point is 00:07:54 So one Marvel movie every two years, guys, but it'll be in-game level. I love it. Bobbanger's just the hot dog meme. Like, we got to figure out who did this. It's so, I want you guys to understand something. There is a chance
Starting point is 00:08:10 that these studio heads are going to be vindictive. Post-strike. No, just not even about the strike, yes, but also about the content thing. Every time Zazov watches a movie and he doesn't like it in a little bit, write that bitch off. That's not coming out. Fuck it. Fuck them.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And now you got Iger who's like, oh, you say I'm giving you too much? X-Men, 2054. All right? I'm telling you, there's a chance that they're going to get vindictive and go, oh, okay, I see. We've heard you. We've heard you guys. Let's go the other way. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:46 So I'm telling you, it's funny. It's funny. All right. On today's show, we're taking a look at the latest and greatest nerd news and giving you a rare midnight mailback. It's a no content show. It's a no content show. It's a show where we don't have a show to talk about it. It's a no content show.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Stop. Every pod does mailbag. Relax. Why can we be honest with the people? Invisible decided that they were going to drop in two tranches rather than do a whole season and what if has decided they're going to drop a show
Starting point is 00:09:23 every single day for X amount of days, making it impossible to cover, therefore went a little low. I mean, really quick, Twitter means nothing right now, but motherfuckers was really pissed once they figured out Invincible was going on a mid-season break.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I was like, God damn, y'all really were more upset than I thought you be. So, yeah, not great. All right, let's get into the nerd news. All right, Taco Watiti says he had no interest in directing Thor Ragnarok, but did it because he wanted money. I was surprised that this got as big of a response as it did. I'm not at all. Why?
Starting point is 00:10:11 Takoatiti, it's... If we're talking about, going back to the beginning of the podcast, if we're talking about like generational dick riding for like 15, 20 years, every director, like every indie director who would get just like a beast. sea-less-level superhero movie would be like, you know, Captain Poopie Pants was my favorite hero since I was growing up. And this is exactly this thing that I've always wanted to direct when I got my first shot in Hollywood. And I'd be like, yo, just come on.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Tell them that you got student debt, bro. Like, really? Like, did y'all see that Madam Webb clip? Who's the white girl playing Madam Webb? Dakota Johnson. Dakota Johnson's just like, yeah, ever since I was growing up, Madam, I mean, Marvel has been my favorite thing. Dakota Johnson, you've never fucking heard of Madam Webb before you're like.
Starting point is 00:10:58 That's what I'm saying. I'll come over there. Like, come on. You don't know who Madam Webb is. Like, I didn't, I don't know Madam Webb, not like that. The guy that was jumping around into Madam Webb, I had to go back and do some back reading. I don't know. Oh, y'all, those are some terrible Spider-Man comics.
Starting point is 00:11:13 It's tough. I mean, I know, I know her. She popped up in different cartoons and stuff. She helped Spider-Man out. You know, all of that stuff? I don't know that too much about Madam Webb. You talking about Ezekiel, like the old white man? Like, I know who is now.
Starting point is 00:11:24 I didn't know who he was before then. Never heard of old Zique. I thought he had washed out of the league. I heard he was with the Patriots last time. You know what I mean? Who he played for? Who he played? Who he play for?
Starting point is 00:11:37 Yeah, but look, he didn't grow up wanting to be the director of Thor Ragnarok, the third Thor movie. He did it for the bread. He did it for the bag. He did a good job. Who cares?
Starting point is 00:11:48 But they wasn't admitting this when Marvel was on top. Nobody was really being like, Hey, yo, come on. I need to buy a second house. I just think it's funny that he admits this after Love and Thunder and then maybe after his current movie isn't doing so great. Because if he was riding the high of Ragnarok and maybe if he was like hitting the
Starting point is 00:12:09 Jojo Rabbit's success, maybe he doesn't say these kinds of things. Whoa. Taika is a little over exposed. Wait a minute. He's throwing some haymakers. Steve, like, stop, stop, stop. Look at Steve's face. Steve is one of the motherfuckers mad about it.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Whoa, Steve, he offended you. Look at Steve's face. Steve didn't like this. Wow. Wow. This is, I've never seen this version of Steve before. I've never seen Steve the Karen. The Karen?
Starting point is 00:12:44 That's all I've been. That's all I am. I've never seen. Steve, you didn't appreciate the fact that he said this. Get it off your chest. I just, it's weird timing is all. Like, I agree with Charles that like this is kind of the unknown or known secret that like, all right, yeah, yeah, we're doing it for the check.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Those indie directors are just going to be coming up, get their bag, and then hopefully they get to do it well enough so that they can make the movies that they actually want. Like, that's a known thing. With Tyca, the shine was bright and burning very fast. And now we're kind of like, all right, well, Tyca, what do you, what are we doing here? He did too much. did too much too quick. And now he's,
Starting point is 00:13:26 now he's acting a little out of pocket. Man takes job for money. And we're like, oh, we're like, we're scared. Like I don't, this is a non-story.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Who cares? Also, wait, can I be real, though? MCU directors, I'm not defending Taika because I think Tyca, like I said, is overexposed.
Starting point is 00:13:45 But we have to be real. MCU directors are kind of fucked if they do and fucked if they don't. Because the minute the movie doesn't do well, the entire town is just, like, this black director, female director,
Starting point is 00:13:58 didn't even show up to her own party and did it, and then a bunch of people have to come to her defense being like, A, she wasn't invited, B, wise is a thing. Why are we throwing something? Well, I mean, that's hard of the conversation. Now, now it's like, okay, is the Marvel machine broken rather than like, oh, this director fucked up. There have been way more, there have been a lot of times
Starting point is 00:14:16 in Marvel history where it's like, after the movie flops, the director is kind of the one to be like, they were unprofessional. this was their first big film. I'm like, come on, man. Yeah, a couple of things. Number one is like, you know, Marvel has a way that they do these directors, right?
Starting point is 00:14:34 You know, Marvel doesn't bring, I mean, Chloe Zow is a good example. It was cresting at the time that she was brought in. You know, Sam Ramey was a legend at the time that he was brought in. But Marvel doesn't really bring in the, you don't see like, David Lynch's endgame. That would have been awesome. Darren Arnowski's Dr. Strange.
Starting point is 00:15:02 That's not what they do. They don't do that. And the reason why they don't do that is because they kind of want to control these motherfuckers a little bit, right? The thing is, inside of the Marvel universe, if you hit a couple of times, you can become such a big deal from that. Which happened to the Russo brothers, which happened to Tycho Oratida, which happened to James Gunn.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Like, they don't bring you in, but if the movies are, they're so four quadrant that if you hit with one, it can make your shit. And then after that, you start acting a little bit different. You talk about Tyca doing too much. Tyca did exactly what he was supposed to do. Tyca went out and got himself an Academy Award. Tyca took all the checks.
Starting point is 00:15:44 He said he said he wanted to feed his children, but then motherfuckers eat now. You know, and so, you know, after that, I don't think he overexposed himself. I think he did what he was supposed to do. I'm not talking about overexposed in terms of like just the work. I am meaning like Tyka is a acquired taste. I think in front of the camera as well as behind.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And he just was not filming shows and writing shows and producing shows. He was acting in them. And I think there got to be a point where I was like, I would turn on a movie. I'm like, Tyka's in this movie. All right. But we're the better for it though, right? We got what we do in the shadows.
Starting point is 00:16:21 We got Jojo Rabbit. You got Tyca popping up in different things. It was cool. Look, it's always cool till it's not, right? I remember there being fucking pictures of Tyca and two ladies. Like, they were all getting it on. Wasn't it Rita Orra and Tessa Thompson? And Tessa Thompson?
Starting point is 00:16:38 Like, Tyca was living. You can't tell me that Tyca's done anything wrong. Tyca was out there like, yo, man, last year they didn't know me. Now I'm hot. They all on me. What? What? Mike Jones.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Oh my God. Everybody knows Mike Jones. Everybody knows Mike Jones. Everybody knows Mike Jones. Everybody knows Mike Jones. Hey, hey, hey, give me the drums. No. The drums are Mike Jones?
Starting point is 00:17:11 Vito the drums. Okay, thank you. Well, there can be no vetoing the drums. No, this is unfair. What? For Mike Jones, bro. This is a real. Look, look, let me tell you got something.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I'm from Louisiana. I didn't realize that y'all know our stuff like that. I mean, he's from Texas, but we've been listening to Mike Jones. We still listen to Mike Jones. Y'all ever heard of Mike Jones song in a long time? With Mike Jones drop, I still listen to it. You know, whatever. Steve, what are you going to say about Tyca with Tide?
Starting point is 00:17:39 I'm going to say about Tyca with Tessa Thompson. No, I just don't want to say, well, first of all, I don't want to act like this is Tyca's fault because he was doing his thing, and then we clamored for it and gave him too much. I don't want to say that Tyca was overexposed because he was. was just barging into rooms, making people give him movies. Like, we gave him that. And now we're, like, kind of being like, all right, maybe we can dial it back. I had no say in Tyco Watiti being in the suicide squad.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Nobody asked me for that. I don't know what you're talking about. We didn't, like, when I pop up and the voice of the alien robot is Tyco Watiti, right? Well, I say we as in, like, those studio heads, like, the people that, like, like, his fans and his, like, actual, like, people that are, like, in his, corner, like, really supported that. And, like, he reaped the benefits
Starting point is 00:18:26 of that success. And now we're like... No, he's only, you know, he's only directed eight movies. Only directed eight movies? That's a lot of movies. That's a lot of movies. And he's acting and he's reducing. What are you talking about? Not really. He's starring in shit too. He's in a whole ass TV show. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Yeah. And when you talk about movies that you've seen, the movies really... It's interesting. Thor Ragnarok in a way, was his major film debut. I mean, Eagle versus Shark boy, what we do in the shadows, Hunt for the Wilder people, these were all films that you guys never saw. I saw Hunter the Wilder people and
Starting point is 00:19:02 Eagle versus Shark. That was only because Flight of the Concordes. I saw, oh, I love Flight of the Concord. Flight of the Concord. Oh, we locked in on Flight of Conquoise. He had a big He had a big hand in the rise of Flight of the Concordes too. Right. But yeah, so
Starting point is 00:19:18 yeah, look, man, Tyca just, all you guys, right now that are kicking the MCU in the ass is getting boring, bro. Oh, it's sorry. Are you saying this in the mirror van? This thing has almost 20 years of dominance.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I think if people want to pile on right now, it's like, this is so many years of pent up frustration. See, let me tell you guys something. You guys, I don't think you guys are old enough to understand this. I'll be honest with you. You haven't lived enough.
Starting point is 00:19:49 You guys haven't been through enough things that peaked and then people act like they didn't like them. I was around when people act like they never liked vanilla ice ice ice baby. And I was like, you're lying. I almost got into a fight with my cousin Vance about this.
Starting point is 00:20:04 I was like, it's a lie. We're in the room with his friends. I'm like, this nigga is a lying. That's a lie. Every fucking time I used to come home from school. Doom, do do do you niggas dressing like vanilla ice, dancing like vanilla ice.
Starting point is 00:20:18 The whole thing. Same thing with MC Hammer. British Nike sneakers. Everybody tried to act like they didn't like this stuff when people don't like it anymore. And it's kind of annoying. You guys don't like the MCU. You love it.
Starting point is 00:20:30 And now you're growing out of using your toys and you're saying, I know, I never really liked it. It was whack. I only did it for the money. Look, I don't care that Tyco said this, but the pylon to the MCU is getting a little lame now. It's getting to be the easy thing to do. Like having criticisms of the NCU during endgame
Starting point is 00:20:50 was actually kind of. kind of brave when everyone. Thank you so much, Van. I appreciate that. You're totally right. I was brave. Thank you. Well, I didn't even know what you were doing.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I didn't know you during that game. I have a cool question. Van, you have a cousin named Vance? Yeah, Vance. Was that confusing at Thanksgiving or like, nah, because they call me Lil Terry.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Oh, okay. Everybody called me Lil Terry. The only person that called me Van was my dad. Everybody else would call me a little Terry. Little Terry, come over here, Terry, y'all don't know nothing about that real black family situation. Jomey, y'all don't know nothing about that. The real, the real black family of America.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Steve, you laugh a little too hard, my boy. It's time. All right. It's time to play the drums. That's right. Steve. Steve is getting red. Why is that so funny, Steve?
Starting point is 00:21:46 Steve was like black families. I didn't know that they had them. All right. In other, our news. Star Wars Assoca creator, Dave Filoni, name Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer. How are we feeling? I like it.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Mistake. I like it. Getting spicy. Man, why is it a mistake? I don't think you want that dedicated or creative in that type of position. I think you want a producer type there. That can think broadly.
Starting point is 00:22:21 You want more of a chemistry. and Fygie type than the John Favreau type in that situation. To me, I think it's a mistake. I think he is too directly involved in story. I think you need someone. There's a reason why, in my opinion, like Don Simpson, like Jerry Brookheimer,
Starting point is 00:22:45 the rest of these guys that are great producers, Peter Goober, the rest of these guys, guys that are great producers, Will Packer, that are great producers, is the reason why they're in the capacity that they are. There's a certain detachment that you want your producer to have from the project, right, so that he can see it, he or she can see it with a bird's eye view. You want to be just a little bit removed to it. A director, a writer, they're in the guts. It's all over their hands. Like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, the viscera of the film is on them.
Starting point is 00:23:20 and sometimes when you're when you're asking them to uh to look at something they just can't wipe it off and sometimes as a producer you this is the wildest longest man of floor of all time no i get i'm with you i'm with you i get as a producer sometimes you just got to say hey we're not doing that so let me just just be honestly you're like we're not doing that like you're and that's why they get their own cut that's why they get a director's cut that's why they get their own cut they get their own cut because this is what I would have wanted to do. I personally think having a direct creative in this role, I don't think it's a good thing. I think it's interesting because this is more, this seems to be more or less teeing Faloni
Starting point is 00:24:02 up for the Kathleen Kennedy-esque role that she would have had in Star Wars because, not to say that she's expressly said that she would be retiring, but she's been kind of embattled, shall we say, for her decision-making for a little bit. And this may be like a bit of a transitionary move from Foloni to Kennedy, we'll see. But again, like,
Starting point is 00:24:27 it feels like these are two different jobs that Faloni and Kennedy are capable of doing. I don't really know Faloni as a producer or is a like giant bird's-eye view creative, except when he was kind of
Starting point is 00:24:45 overseeing like the Clone Wars and animated projects, but like now... His show. Yeah. His show though. Exactly. His show like as a show runner, but not as a IP runner. I mean, this scares me. I don't think because I think Dave Faloni is very, very talented, but I do
Starting point is 00:25:01 agree with both of y'all in terms of I think it's just what we've seen of the last couple years of Star Wars. There have been a lot of high highs, but I do think Falonis's love for his baby, which was, you know, animated shows, Clone Wars, Rebels, and trying to weave all that in together and make sense of the prequels, the original trilogy, the sequel trilogy, and make
Starting point is 00:25:25 it all make sense? I don't, I think it does find things for the canon. I don't know if it's made the best art. And that's what I'm a little scared of, is can we still get like an Andor show, even if it's not costing as much as Andor, or can we still get stuff that doesn't feel like it all has to connect to this one tapestry because I just I don't know how much more Skywalker Clone Wars, Rebels adjacent shit I want to be honest. I can see that. And the reason I think I disagree is because when you take him out of like the director role or the writer role and he's just like the guy on top, then you have to fill up under him.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Right. And like there are other directors, other writers, other people can come in and have as Dave as the like, you know, purveyor of the lore, per se, like the guy on top, you can have, like,
Starting point is 00:26:17 other people come in and, like, you know, try new things. Maybe it's still contained within, like, you know, the Skywalker's story,
Starting point is 00:26:23 which, you know, Charles is tired of hearing about. By the same time, new people can come in and tell, like, new stories within that kind of era. And, like,
Starting point is 00:26:31 I'm not mad at that. I would like to see, you know, somebody else not named Dave Faloni be like the writer on a Star Wars project. You know, somebody not named John Favreau,
Starting point is 00:26:40 you know, take over, you know, the next Star Wars series, So I'd be interested in seeing what that looks like. Let me ask you this. We all talk about Dave Faloni and his contributions to Star Wars. Can't you make an argument that Filoni has muddled Star Wars to a degree and not made it worse?
Starting point is 00:27:11 made it more accessible in a way, but also watered it down a little bit. Like, Star Wars doesn't, the stuff that we're watching right now doesn't have a, it's fun to watch at times. But a lot of times it doesn't have a very clear narrative or doesn't know what it's seeming to do.
Starting point is 00:27:35 And sometimes I think that that's because Dave Faloney is writing with a lyrical pin when he writes Star Wars. He is so much of a fan that he's the type of guy that spends time on a lot of the details of things and not necessarily the overall story. And that's how your shit gets fat.
Starting point is 00:27:59 It's not lean enough a lot of times. What are you going to say, Joan? Yes and no. I can see where you're saying with Dave Filoni, but we could have had the same conversation in 2019 when The Rise of Skywalk. came out. I mean,
Starting point is 00:28:12 like, like this, all this stuff is, I don't want to say, like, it all comes down from that, but like the failure of that trilogy to generate any type of,
Starting point is 00:28:21 like, excitement or momentum for, like, Star Wars universe is kind of why we're here in the first place, why they haven't released a movie since 2019. But to be fair,
Starting point is 00:28:30 they've missed more than they've hit in terms of like, Obi-Wan shouldn't have been a miss. Like, it just shouldn't have. Like, Book of Boba Fett shouldn't have been a miss.
Starting point is 00:28:39 even like Mando season three. Like these are, it's not like, this has been like, oh, we tripped up once. And this isn't all philoni. This is not, this is a bigger issue. I would say that that's barely philoni, at least as far as. But what I'm saying is it's not like
Starting point is 00:28:53 the feloni stuff has been working in a way that the other, none of it's working. So that's what makes it a little bit, you're like, oh, like interesting. None of that stuff is phaloney directly, but it's Faloni's universe. Right. Outside of the stumble that was the ending of Assoco, which I think we can,
Starting point is 00:29:09 say because that was his baby for sure. I can't act like the presence of... Cadbane was in Poethette. Like, no, I get that. But it's the fact that like I still can't act like the presence of Filoni hasn't been a net positive. Oh, I'm not saying it's not a negative. I think Faloni has done way too much for Star Wars
Starting point is 00:29:30 for me to be like, oh, he's a net, he's a net negative. Like, no, that's not what I'm saying. Okay. But there is a level of like, are we doubling down on something that's just not work. I want something fresh. And if Faloni can give it to me, I will be so happy.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I'm just wondering if he can at this point. I think in the positive sphere, I think that with Faloni at the highest of those chairs, my most positive outlook is that, like, yeah, maybe the Tony Gilroy's of the world get more at bats with these stories. The people that can be, like, more of a bird's eye view. Because, like, the interesting thing about Star Wars is, like, the fact that it doesn't have the luxury of what Marvel can be when it's like there's multiverses
Starting point is 00:30:14 and different types of things. It is one timeline. It is one story that is connected to everything, everywhere, always. And Faloni has that vision and he can, he knows that lore. He can see it from the end to the beginning in his mind. To know what the connective tissue... Why do you think that? I mean, I don't think that's true. I don't think so. Well, like, why do you, I mean, No, no, no, I'm not saying that it... I'm not saying that it... I'm not saying that it's not true. I'm just saying I have no reason to believe that it is.
Starting point is 00:30:47 I think Volone sees his correct version of the lore. I think he is such a fan of Star Wars that he is like, I know so much about Star Wars. This is how I think this timeline and this is what's important to the canon, which I think is like can be limiting because then you get a bunch of cartoon characters in a live action show,
Starting point is 00:31:08 you're like, does this make sense to even a general audience anymore? Or are you speaking to the most rabid, the most rabid core, which sometimes to me is like, even someone who watches all this shit makes me feel like I'm on the outside of it. Instead of being like, to a van's point, being like, oh, this story is so good. I care about these characters and their emotional motivations. Not that I saw Mr. Google booby like on a distant planet and he showed up in phone worse once. That's pretty dismissive of Mr. Google booby. And his lower respect for Mr. Google Booboby.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Just like took a fucking phrase. God damn. What did Mr. Google Boobooey do to you, man? Yeah, I don't know. I like Mr. Google Boobie, man. He's the man. Remember when he showed up at the end of the Rites of Skywalker? And everybody was the best part of the best part.
Starting point is 00:31:58 But let me tell you got something though. The Rise of Skywalker situation to me is it's a, the whole trilogy, it's, it's, it's, narrative commentary on new Star Wars. Like, new Star Wars is packaging you back nostalgia, right? It's like when you reheat something in the air friar, it tastes almost as good as what it did the first time, right?
Starting point is 00:32:31 So every time you get something, you think, oh, I can heat this up tomorrow in the air fire because it's going to be crispy and everything. But every time you taste it, it's like, it's not quite what it was before, right? And so the sequel trilogy is kind of that. It's telling the same story. It doesn't break any new ground,
Starting point is 00:32:47 but it's filling in gaps that a Star Wars fan had questions about. It's answering questions that Star Wars fans had. And when you look at Faloni, sometimes, and I love Faloni, but sometimes it's like, he's answering
Starting point is 00:33:03 questions like, well, what happened when this went off? What happened between this? What happened between that? What is the force? What can the force do? How does time work? These are all questions that we asked when we got high. Then they gave somebody to pin. And he was like, I got you, dog.
Starting point is 00:33:18 You know what I'm saying? It's not that it's not good. I mean, you know, Rebels is one of my favorite things. It might be my favorite thing of all of this stuff. I like Rebels and Clone Wars. Rebels is one of my favorite thing. But I also feel like that having him in that position is almost the opposite. of what I would have done
Starting point is 00:33:41 and you guys know how many $100 million movies I've produced absolutely zero. It's almost the opposite of what I would have done. You're fired? No, I would have brought in a set of fresh eyes. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:33:55 I'd have brought in a set of fresh eyes. Fresh eyes that no story. Like I would want, who is the James gun to Star Wars? Like who is the person you bring in to be like, not to kill off everything, but to be like, okay, like, let's start, like, let's get some, fresh here.
Starting point is 00:34:09 You know, let's get the cobblums out. Well, if you're doing the James Gun, if you want to like a one-for-one James Gun analogy, it'd be Tony Gilroy. But Tony Gilroy has been on the record to be like, I don't care about the Star Wars stuff. He would never do it. Like, he would never do it.
Starting point is 00:34:24 And if he did, you'd have Luke Skywalker impaling somebody standing over him with his Sith eyes. Like, it would be going. I like it when it gets a little dark baby. Tony Gilroy is way too talented to be in the Star Wars minds forever. See, you keep saying stuff like that. But you can't say that. Lawrence Cazden was in Star Wars.
Starting point is 00:34:46 I mean, Star Wars has always been dripping with talent. If you do one or two things in the universe, cool, like, I love this. But like, I don't want Tony Gilroy to be like, this is the only thing I'm going to make for the next 25 years. That's depressing to me. Go make some original stuff. What's wrong with that? Yeah, fair. I mean, it's not fair.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Like, I want the best minds in Star Wars. I don't give a fuck. I'm the kind of guy that I wish the Lakers could roll out there. At Sitter, Nicola Yokic, at Point Guard, Tyrese Halliburton. I don't give a fuck. I want all the best people doing the shit that I love. You know what I'm saying? I know because you don't like shit anymore.
Starting point is 00:35:26 You know that new Oscars movie that everybody loves? Fucking trash, flop. That's not true. I watch, I watch Man, I watch Maestro. Oh, Daddy! it's fucking amazing. And he's great. Bradley Cooper has just jumped into the Leo territories right now.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Of like elite. This is, all right. Did you see it? I haven't seen it yet, but that's great. Like, what?
Starting point is 00:35:53 In what term, in terms of what? Bradley Cooper was already at the- Bradley Cooper a lot. He was already at the top. He was already at the top. Bradley Cooper has now vaulted to the top-top of the A-list. He's one of the,

Starting point is 00:37:50 may. Wow. Play the fucking drums. What was that? That was crazy. The word is insane. Steve's what the house. I play.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Wait, first of all. First of all, first of all. Oh, my Lord. No. No. No, the whip. Are you nuts? Steve, are you nuts?
Starting point is 00:38:17 Steve, Steve, are you nuts? Like, bro, are you crazy? We've had that before. We've had that sound before. I don't remember. I don't remember. One other mailbag that we've done in the two-year history of this pod. We've used that before.
Starting point is 00:38:33 I see, I think you snuck it in. No, I did. I think you added a little reverb to it just to make it hit, just to make it knock. Because I'm going to be honest with you. My back. I felt that. Bro, I felt that, bro. I feel the heat right now.
Starting point is 00:38:47 I think that's, I think that's generational trauma. Like, look at me. I felt that, bro. Steve. Yeah, nah, bro. Steve. The whip.
Starting point is 00:38:56 The whip. That was not coated whatsoever. You could have had like a gunshot. Where the Midline boys? No, even even, even, I did not know Steve felt that way. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:16 All right. Our first question is from David James. Which Infinity Stone is represented by each Midnight Boy? I could say that Charles is reality for sure. Because he changes his reality every day. Yeah. Wait, wait, why am I the reality stone? Because, nigger.
Starting point is 00:39:34 You're the reality stone, bro. All you do is try to bring people back. You try to do two things that the reality stone does. number one, bring people back reality and number one, change actual reality. That's what you try to do. Van's a time stone for sure. Van is the time stone.
Starting point is 00:39:49 I'm the time stone. Oh, man, Van, always looking back. You're the time stone. I guess it's you guys. Whose power and who's... No, no. Steve is Space Stone, because you'd be like,
Starting point is 00:40:00 Steve will spend a month or two just hop in the globe. Just you're like, where is Steve? That is true. That's true. Oh, he's in bumble fuck today and I'm just like, oh, where are Steve? Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:07 My international fall in love counter is high. So, yeah. Yeah. But Steve, Steve also could be the power stone, though, because really, he controls the edit of the show. He can do whatever he wants to, you know? Jomi, which is one is Jomey got to be the soul stone. Jomey got to be the soulstone, man. Wow.
Starting point is 00:40:25 So to get me, you have to, like, get to kill one of your homies. Exactly. Wow. Yep, you got to, Jomey got to be the soulstone, you know? Africa, the whole nine, soul, so brother number one. Wow. All right, what's the next one? All right, next question comes from at Daddy,
Starting point is 00:40:41 sports. Oh, daddy. On a personal note, worst fumble you've ever had. Any age, had as a bag, and then stupidly or whatever took over,
Starting point is 00:40:51 and you talked it up to the game. It's your worst fumble. Now, y'all know mine. I told my agency's shield story. Many times, got a whole thing about it. Do you have a B? Do you have one that's right under
Starting point is 00:41:01 Agents of Shield? Uh, I don't, I don't think so. Like, that one is, like, top tier. Like, You know, living that one down.
Starting point is 00:41:12 Anybody fumble you, Jomey? Anybody fumble you, Jomey? People fumble you, every day, but my boy. Every day. Damn. Every day. Jomey like a pig skin covered in grease. Tough.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Mine, okay, so I cannot name this person. This is, I got out to L.A. I first trimmed down in this. It's a club in L.A. called the Sky Bar. And, and this is an example. And this is a life lesson. of why you never, ever, ever try to be humble, ever. Humility is after you've won.
Starting point is 00:41:52 On the way up, on the way up, I'm telling you, after you've already won, be humble about winning. But on the way up, talk your motherfucking shit. So the sky bar is at the bottom of the Mondrian. And I might have told the story already. But we were not, me and my crew at that point, It's like 2006, early 2007. We were not to the point that we could really get into the sky bar.
Starting point is 00:42:16 I had just lost weight. I had trimmed down. I was out there doing my thing, right? We were under the point to begin. So we figured out a way to get in. There is, nobody cares about getting in the sky bar now, but at this point in L.A. It was the best thing.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I think I might have told you guys about this. So you would go and have dinner, like a little dinner at the restaurant right next to the sky bar. And then essentially what they would do is rope off the pool area, bring out the cabanas. And then that would be Skybar and everybody would be there. There was a really popping, really popping, super popping female celebrity. I'm at the bar, I turn around and she's right there. And I'm drinking and she, my drink is on the thing and she kind of like grabs for her drink
Starting point is 00:43:03 and she touches my hand. And I'm like, that must have been an accident. It's definitely an accident. And then I just continue to do my thing And then I feel somebody touch me on the arm And I'll look over And she goes I know you, right?
Starting point is 00:43:21 I'm like, uh, no, but I know you. And she goes, no, but we've worked together in some kind of way, right? I've seen you somewhere. Are you? I don't, I know you from somewhere. And I was like, nah, I don't think we've met. I would remember that.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Boom, good line. And she goes, So what do you do? And I'm like, oh, you know, nothing. I just got out here. I'm just trying to, um, and she goes, so you don't do anything. I'm like, no, I didn't mean that I didn't do anything. What I meant was I don't do anything that would interest somebody like you.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Oh. And she went. How old are you at this moment? It's a bad one. And I'm like, and at that point, I could see her go, oh, this nigger sucks. You know what I'm saying? I could see it. It's not anybody like you.
Starting point is 00:44:15 I was like, yeah. And I was like, yeah. Nice to meet you. She goes, nice to meet you. And then she walks away. And my boy Wilford,
Starting point is 00:44:23 I don't know where will is that right now. My boy Wilford comes over there. And he goes, yo, what happened? And I'm like, I'm like, I think I had it for a second.
Starting point is 00:44:34 And then I lost it. He was like, oh, fuck that, bro. If she's down the night, I got to go try. Where's she, where she go? Where's she go?
Starting point is 00:44:39 He was trying to find her the whole night. By the way, but I will tell you this. This lady was of the milk persuasion. So life would have been different, okay? Well, wait, this changes the calculation of the story. Did she mistake you for another black man? I think she might have, but at the same time, I feel like I could have used it.
Starting point is 00:45:06 I want you guys to think about 2000. That's the fucking up thing, because you thought about using it. That's why. Oh, I would have. Come on now. Yeah, I want you guys to think about 2007 and think about,
Starting point is 00:45:16 and I'm never going to say this name. So just, like, whatever. I'm not even for the protocol. I don't need this out, especially the way my life is now. Think about 2007 and think about the gaggle of hot, young actresses
Starting point is 00:45:31 that are in the town at that point. This lady was one of them. The hot, young, white actresses in town, this lady was one of them. She looked great that night. Julie Andrews. And then Julie. Harry Poppins?
Starting point is 00:45:45 She went back and started partying with, what was the guy from? If you say this guy's name, the fans are going to, are going to figure. You know, they're going to do some forensics. They're going to be like,
Starting point is 00:45:59 okay, who was here at this date? In L.A.? Right. Yep. And I think, you know, that could have every time I would see her at TMZ you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:46:12 I'll be like maybe maybe it would just been a fun couple of months who knows I should have just said that crazy if Van had a bunch of like light skin kids and every time
Starting point is 00:46:22 it's a good time we went over to his house or like hey Uncle Steve and Uncle Jomey how are you doing think about that I don't know
Starting point is 00:46:29 how many Jadens I can live with you know what I'm saying they'll be grown they'll be grown now if they'd have been born around that time they'd been
Starting point is 00:46:38 Oh, they be like, be like tiahs kids, you'd be putting... Yeah, they'd be out there, who'd been probably doing, out there taking after their mother, getting in trouble? Never way, anyway. Again, no too many in. Can we go to the next question? Well, what's the next question? The next question is from Mr. Pounders.
Starting point is 00:46:56 We got Daddy Sports and Mr. Pounders back and back. Wow. If you could take any MCU character or storyline and adapt to a prestige TV or HBO Sunday night series, what would you pick? like a billion-esque series on Stark Industries or like the Wire series in Jobo and Zeri in Oakland.
Starting point is 00:47:14 What would you guys want to do? So that's a Charles question. Have you guys ever read Peter David's X Factor? No. Yeah, so this came out right after House of Them when all the mutants are depowered. And it's essentially like you got at that point who were the C-level characters.
Starting point is 00:47:34 So it'd be like multiple man Madrox, M strong guy and all of them would just be a detective agency and it was like a procedural every single week it was a new mutant case like blob would be one of the people who needed their help and I think
Starting point is 00:47:50 if you're going to have a TV show now especially in this market I think it has to be focused on a genre and I think mutants X factor it's a very celebrated run would just be very interesting to me what about you guys? I don't know about prestige, but like a Parks and Rec type series, like a mockumentary, but like with damage control, you know, we got to go up, clean up, you got to send people out to go clean up the Hulk's mess again.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Wait, did they, did they do that? Did they have a DC version of that? Did they? Yeah, there was like a sitcom where it was like none of the DC superheroes were in it. Oh, yeah. It was like on CW or something like that. It was like, oh, that one. Oh, no, no wonder.
Starting point is 00:48:39 I know what you're talking about. Hey, man, look. I got good ideas. Already making my stuff. What's going on? No, I never heard about that. I've got a really special place in my heart for the Ed Brubaker iron fist run. And I know Iron Fist is cooked forever.
Starting point is 00:48:55 But like, if they really got that right, Jesus, that would be great. Ed Ruebaker, Matt, Fraction. That was when, yeah, man. Like, you realize there was other iron fist going all the way back. then they did this super sick fucking tournament. Oh, man. They fucked Iron Fiss so hard. Iron Fis had a tournament art?
Starting point is 00:49:12 Yeah, no, he did. It was so fucking cool. And I'm so mad because Iron Fis will probably never be done again. Because that was so bad. Iron Fis anime win. Oh, man. Honestly, I'm going to be real. We got to get over it.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Like, the studio's got to get over it. Like, when Green Lantern or Iron Fist or any of this shit, flops are like, we're never seeing them again for 15 years. I'm like, no, like, go back. Try it again. Who cares? Like, when Batman fucks up, nobody waits. Like, why can't we have multiple iron fists?
Starting point is 00:49:40 Because Batman is one of the most valuable fucking characters in the history of American fiction. Yeah, but here's the thing. There are times when Batman flops, people are like, man, we don't want any more Batman. And then they just do it. It's always going to be Batman. There's always going to be some white dude that's going to be like,
Starting point is 00:49:59 you know what, I wish I could dress up like a bat. So wait, you're telling me that. You never want to see another character as Iron Man or Captain America. We can't, like, those didn't flop. But you're telling me you don't want to be like, yo, at a certain point, you guys, just keep it going. You don't have to put it on ice forever. My thing is I'm a mantlehead. I think it's all, I think that they should have already recast those roles.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Bring in new people. Let it go. Let it happen. You know what I mean? They bring Tarzan, who's essentially, which is a weird one, where a white dude goes into the middle of the jungle. and because of African because he's raised by apes. That's what you're really trying to say.
Starting point is 00:50:38 I don't know we know what Tarzan is about. You think we fucking stupid? You think we dumb? We don't think we know what the apes are in Tarzan? Ha! Ha! So, you know, they do that. I agree with you. Prestige situation.
Starting point is 00:50:54 You know, I don't know. I think actually a procedural at Stark Ender... A billion show at Stark Industries sounds pretty good. But that's kind of what I want it. What I would want from it is really not a lot of hero involved, but something that was deep and well-written, like a succession or billions, or maybe something that was villain-centered, like a breaking bad about one of the villains and how they broke bad, I don't know. Something like that would be awesome. Ooh, I like a secret six. I like the secret
Starting point is 00:51:21 six. Catman, Deadshot, all of them, a bunch of like villains just becoming a family, kooky crime. Yeah, I will want something villain-centric. I got to think about which villain I will want. But I got to think of something villain-centric and that's something that he starts, maybe something that's breaking bad, like, where the villain starts for whatever reason that they're doing, whatever they're doing, and then by
Starting point is 00:51:44 the end of it, there to the point where they could be a villain in an MCU movie, and we've seen the whole situation. Like Iron Man, got you. Yeah. All right, our next question comes from, like Mike, 2233. If you were in charge of rebuting the MCU after
Starting point is 00:52:00 Secret Wars and had free reign, What would the first phase look like? Oh, I'm going scorched earth. We're doing a new phase, first of all. We're getting, we're not doing, we're not doing any of that. Like, all right, we're working towards this storyline. Nope. I'm giving you three movies.
Starting point is 00:52:20 There's going to be intrigue now. We're doing X-Men. We're doing Fantastic Four. We're recasting the Avengers. That's fucking it. Like, we are going back to basics, giving y'all one to two movies a year. And we're really letting the story speak for itself. I don't want like a Wolverine solo movie before it's time.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Like, nah, I'm just going to show y'all that we can, we can just do one movie. And we're going to build from there. Because I think the MCU just gives us too much now where they're like, we knew secret wars was coming so far in advance that everything that was not either living up to that expectation or pushing us towards that in a meaningful way. you're like oh man okay I just think they need to go back to the Ironman Avengers Playbook where we're just like we're giving you one or two movies and we're building towards something
Starting point is 00:53:11 okay okay I see the vision but my thing is like I'm probably like I'm probably giving you like this is a course of like I want to say like three years right three maybe like three four years I'm giving you two X-Man movies
Starting point is 00:53:35 All right, I'm rocking. And Avengers. Who's in the Avengers, though? Who's in the Avengers? We cast them. I'm saying we're going, like, we're not new characters, but recast, Cat. You can't, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Well, Iron Man died. No, no, no. This is a new phase new. After Sugar Awards, we're like, like the ultimate, like, so, you know, in the comics, the ultimate universe comes in with the regular 616 universe, and they all merge together. I'm bringing a new cap.
Starting point is 00:54:02 I'm bringing a new Iron Man. Like, there's a whole bunch of like new Avengers. You can't do that. You can't do that because they did it in the comics. So it's all good. Y'all shit sucks. You can't do that. You can't.
Starting point is 00:54:13 How can you not? There hasn't been enough time. That's not the way it works. When the movie comes out in 2009, 7? The movies are coming out to like 2030. So what you're saying is your new phase, when does your new Avengers movie movie drop after end game? Wait.
Starting point is 00:54:31 I took the question as this is post-secret wars. After Secret Wars. Oh, post-Secret Wars. Yeah, post-Secret Wars. What are you doing? Clean slate. I think Jomi and I are very similar in that, like, I don't think, at least, Jomey, correct me if I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:54:47 I don't know if they could do the, all right, we're doing a solo cat movie. We're doing a solo. I'm like, let's just get to the Avengers. We know these characters. Do some, like, do some Daniel Craig Bond. She'll just give us a. The last phase, the last movie, My phase, Avengers versus X-Men.
Starting point is 00:55:04 Let's do it. Oh, yeah, you got to do. Come on, man. That's the last movie of a new phase. They might do Avengers versus X-Men for this phase. And before Secret Wars? Well, yeah. They might get to X-Men until after Secret Wars.
Starting point is 00:55:20 Yeah, I don't think so either. Look, there's a lot of moving parts. There's a lot of stuff going on, man. But look, after that, I really, that's a good question. I really wouldn't know what to do. It would depend. I don't know enough about what's going to happen to know where the story's going to be.
Starting point is 00:55:37 I think the slate would be. Miles Morales, Spider-Man movie. Oh, God. That's for sure happening. I don't know, like, where the story's going to be. I don't know enough about, like, what's going to happen. If, I mean, I will say this, if Secret Wars does what Secret Wars the comic book does,
Starting point is 00:55:54 then you can do, like, what Charles is saying, and you can just do whatever you want because it's a brand new, world. So if it does that, I guess you can you can have whatever you want to have. I thought the, I misheard the question. I'm sorry, I thought the question was post end game, what would you have done? If it's post, if it's post secret wars, I mean, I don't know. There's still so much meat on the bone. You know what I mean? Who knows? I mean, I mean, I mean, on what, meat on the bone in terms of this phase that we're in right now? Yeah, there's still
Starting point is 00:56:24 so, there's still so much that we haven't eaten. There's still so much that they haven't, that they haven't given us. I mean, I'm going to be real. I would rather a blade or like any of these characters just be in like a new phase. Same thing with the Fantastic Four. I think they just need to start fresh. Steve? I'm kind of like in with an inverse. Like I like the idea of kind of building to an Avengers versus X-Men thing. But knowing that we're going to be post-secret Wars, I want, I basically want what early MCU was for the X-Men. I do kind of want some... It's not solo X-Men stories,
Starting point is 00:57:03 but like contextualizing the mutants as a sort of like legacy brand for several years to come and then like having the sort of like teasing, bouncing ball, being the Avengers turning heel and being evil. So like we get like a Magneto origin story in the beginning. We get like something that's like about like a first class-esque
Starting point is 00:57:23 type of early Xavier's school stuff. Maybe a solo movie of Wolverine here or there or some other characters that are bigger. But like, I want that plus
Starting point is 00:57:34 like the occasional outside X-Men source. Jomey thinks this is hilarious. Steve, I gotta be honest with you, man. If they show up to Comic-Con and be like, hey, we got a psychop solo movie,
Starting point is 00:57:46 I'm out of that bitch. Yeah. It's over. It's over. I like psychops. And I'm with Jomi, bro. It's over. I will say this to his point.
Starting point is 00:57:56 I mean, we can't do a Magneto Origin movie, you know what I mean? But because I don't think they can tell the origin of any, of anybody whose origin we've already spent too much time with. Right. So if we spent too much time with your origin, probably not. But I will say that if you, if they do an X-Men movie
Starting point is 00:58:15 and they just pop up and they throw all the X-Men on the screen at the same time, it's not going to work. It's not. And I like you really, like the X-Men as a like, as an entity needs to be like, we need context for all of that stuff. In order for it to really matter, like,
Starting point is 00:58:30 we got to at least get, like, the right tones and vibes. Because if, like, the mutants that we want to know have been around for decades upon decades, we need to know that history.
Starting point is 00:58:40 And I like to look at it from a history perspective rather than an innately character perspective. We could have those big characters have their own solo movies, but like center it around something that is big and eventful in the X-Men canon.
Starting point is 00:58:53 Yeah, it's just maybe you start off with, maybe you go in a wild way. Maybe you start off with Krola or something. I don't know. Wait, I would love that. You got to work up to Krokoa. You got to work up to Krola. Well, hold on. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:59:10 Maybe. We're spending a lot of time on this question. I know, because it's a very interesting question. Yeah, yeah. But like, we have an X-Men question, though, coming up from Kerm, don't we? Okay, fine. Like, my thing is, I think you could. like, you know, introduce them as secret wars as, you know, some people from another, you know, universe, whatever.
Starting point is 00:59:29 And then go back to be like, yo, what was going on in your universe when the whole thing folded? And now that you're here. And then, like, the second movie is them in the back in like the main continuity doing their thing, trying to get reacclimated the whole thing. Maybe you can do that in one movie, maybe separate the two movies. I think there's a way you can, like, do that without having to be like, all right, cool. Here's a Jubilee solo movie. You know what I mean? My thing is this.
Starting point is 00:59:53 And this is the last thing I'll say. You have to, so the only thing that works about, forget about that, you have to let this world unfold through the eyes of a character. You have to let what's happening unfold through the eyes of a character.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Like, it, there has to be, the X-Men have such fantastical powers that you have to initiate the audience into it if you wanted to last. See, the thing that that ended up happening with the other franchises is that they just started throwing mutants onto the screen and not caring
Starting point is 01:00:33 at all in the way that we got them or in the way that they were that they were portrayed. Like, you just throw juggernaut onto the screen. Okay, it's cool enough that you got juggernaut. Well, it's not. Juggernaut's a mutant now. There's no gym. He's small.
Starting point is 01:00:49 It's like, it's not just cool enough just to have juggernaut. Like, you to introduce, you know, you know what I'm saying? So it's like they started, when they started doing that, no, oh, here's Colisto, oh, here's this. They just got to the point to where it was like mutant mania and there was no real story there. If you do that with the X-Men, like, the movie will not, it won't work. And as much as you don't like that very first original X-Men film, it has a perfect
Starting point is 01:01:14 structure with introducing you to that world, with rogue being on the run and then her running into Wolverine and then running into the school and then like slowly drip feeding you all of those types of things that are introducing you to that world. Like there's a lot of context and groundwork to lay out and let alone the actual like historical significance of like that this is a decades long set of lore. Like to have an audience surrogate in some character to like introduce you into something broader. We have the time to get as many movies as we want.
Starting point is 01:01:47 But we need to get that those first few absolutely right. It's important. All right. skip ahead here if we're doing that then this question comes from jonathan kerma never heard of him hey midnight boys long time listener sometime producer here who do you all think would make the ideal mc uxsman lineup and what era x-men think that mansion shit is played out and i would love to see the utopia era even the crack coa era x-men coming to play on the big screen to switch things up pew phew and thank you first of all i don't know if kirm tells us what's played out and what's not played out
Starting point is 01:02:22 That's the first thing. Don't do that, yo. Come on. I'll be in the X-Mansion forever. I love that. I disagree. The X-Mansion, I love the X-Mansion. People need to fucking.
Starting point is 01:02:34 X-Mansion's great. We need our X-Men euphoria. Can you imagine? Oh, my God. Going crazy and shit. That's your TV show, bitch. Damn. That's Jim Vito.
Starting point is 01:02:44 That's Jim Vito. Yeah. Well, fuck it. That's what it should be. Like, I want to see that movie. Like, can you imagine, like, Cyclops? is just the jocke. Like,
Starting point is 01:02:53 just going to class and shit. I think this needs to be an edgier X-Men. I think I want to see edgy cyclops, asshole cyclops,
Starting point is 01:03:04 Cyclops, who is a mutant nationalist. I think that's the way. I'm serious. Maga Cyclops? Mega Cyclops would be crazy. That'd be so joke. I mean, that's pretty much
Starting point is 01:03:13 what Cyclops is. Yeah, Cyclops became a militant. Yeah. And I think you need that version of Cyclops. Cyclops. The Cucs, the Cucs Cyclops we've gotten over the years.
Starting point is 01:03:24 I think that guy's got to go. I think nobody's going to really go for him. So this is when he's with Emma Frost? Yeah. I always loved Emma more than Gene. Like Gene's kind of I'm done with Gene. Gene's born as fuck. It's not that Gene is boring. Is that Gene got too many she got baggage? She got
Starting point is 01:03:42 Canon baggage. You hanging out with Gene and you never know if you're going to have a good night out of the town or if she's going to destroy the universe. It's really tough. You know what I mean? It's like, sometimes you want Gene home or Paul or Gene. Fucking, bruh, we don't even need to be dealing with this dude. Unleashed the Phoenix Force so we can go watch the movies. Oh, let me pitch you on this.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Wait, if we did a prestige, we should do like an X-Men sex in the city where you get like Gene Gray and Storm and Kitty. They just on the town, like bitching about the other X-Men. They're like, yo, Coloss, this really ain't shit. He's a groomer. Like, I love it. He's a grub. Oh, my God. Damn.
Starting point is 01:04:21 What? what are you what are you why my god that's like 13 how old is colossus? I'm not locked in I don't know does Colossus play for Oklahoma
Starting point is 01:04:33 Jesus wow boy something else huh fuck it fuck it huh come on that boy something else huh that's insane
Starting point is 01:04:47 that's doing that today we're not doing that right fuck it Jesus. Something else, huh? Being serious. I think end game should be House of X, Powers of 10, Krakola. And I think how you get there is honestly, I would like to see the first uncanny team.
Starting point is 01:05:03 Like the first Chris Claremount, like when they come out, Cyclops, Cyclops Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Warpath was on that team. And Banshee, I think just go classic. I don't want, just give me a really good Claremont X team. I would love it. And then I think you could do the prequel. I would love the prequel where we just do the OGs, where you do Iceman Beast, Angel, Cyclops, Gene Gray, Professor X. I'm never getting my Alpha Flight movie and I really want it.
Starting point is 01:05:34 No one wants an Alpha Flight movie. I do them to show up. Hey, you could do an Alpha Flight movie. You could do, no. Yes, it is. I like it. Like, no, they're not. You can do an Alpha Flight movie.
Starting point is 01:05:48 You could do an Alpha Flight movie as a Wolverine Origin movie. Yeah. That would be kind of cool. You know what I mean? Wait, why wouldn't you just do an X-Force movie? I would like an X-Force movie. And at the end, like, the villain, like, who's out of the ice is like Captain America or some shit? They're like, yo, we, Captain America's now on Weapon X.
Starting point is 01:06:07 It'd be so dope. It would just be cool. It would be cool just to see Wolverine hopping around with Alpha Flight, Puck, and all of it. It would just be cool. James Morales, if you could pick any villain for Batman Part 2, who would you put? pick. Ooh. I've always
Starting point is 01:06:26 wanted... We did this a while ago. We did our Batman. I still think Cordoise would be dope. I still feel like we never really got a good
Starting point is 01:06:33 two-faced story. True. Like, I think there's a really good, but they've done all the villains or a lot of them. I've really, I've really wanted,
Starting point is 01:06:41 I mean, I've really wanted like a good Victor Freeze story. No, they're never going on. They're never going to. Does, like,
Starting point is 01:06:49 does freeze, does, does, does, does, but I really wish that it did. because Clayface. Oh, I like Mr. Pig. Mr. Pig is cool.
Starting point is 01:06:57 I love Clayface, but that never works anyway. Like, I just want a fucked up, like, actor that just, like, mutilates his face instead of just like a clay monster. I've always liked that version of Clayface better. So we're talking about Pattinson's Batman, so we got to think about who works for the universe, right? Like, who works? Who works it for the universe?
Starting point is 01:07:16 Owman and the Court of Owls works. I think that's a dark enough story. Yeah, I don't think a condomin' king works. works? I mean, you know, listen. No.
Starting point is 01:07:27 Oh, hush could work. Hush to work. No, hush. We got to let Hush go. Hush ain't one of them villains. Everybody acts like to act like Hush. Hush is not cool.
Starting point is 01:07:37 Hush has never been cool. What about Victor's ass? Two. Not an A list. I hate that. I hate that Hugo Strange could be good. You squint. I mean,
Starting point is 01:07:52 You go straight. Look, they're going, they're going with the Joker. It's going to be a debacle. I don't think they're going with the Joker. I don't think that's confirmed. I don't think they're going to do the Joker. They put them in the movie. I understand that, but like, that's a lot of,
Starting point is 01:08:07 a lot of opportunities left. Obviously Catwoman comes back. Yeah. Black Mask? Black Mask could be good. We are naming some scrubs, yo. Just, just do the, hey, just do the regular niggas. Just do the regular niggers, man.
Starting point is 01:08:22 Like, you know what I'm saying? It's like, all y'all right now are trying to show how deep y'all knowledge of the Rose Gallery is. Because it's a good one. Just do the, I want to do some other shit. Hey, do the regular niggas, nah. You want Bain again? You want, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:38 You're dumb to the dog. Bain joker. Bane Joker. Two-face is the bed. Do two-face. We like the dark night, but we should do this thing where we, when we do midnight hate, where we just do movies that are beloved in comic book movies.
Starting point is 01:08:55 I just talk about what's wrong with them. And if we ever do that, if we ever do the Midnight Hate episodes, those would be hosted by Charles, completely put together by Charles, midnight hate. We can talk about the fact that the worst thing in the dark night is Two-Face. And when you watch it now...
Starting point is 01:09:12 Wait, the worst thing in the Dark Night is Two-Face? Yeah, for sure. Wait, are you putting Harvey Dent in that role as well? No, Harvey-Did is fine. Harvey-Did works perfectly. No, I agree with you. I agree with you. But Two-Face was rushed, thrown in, and doesn't make any sense.
Starting point is 01:09:27 He's just taking away my time with the goat. We don't need that. You don't want to introduce a little anarchy? No. No, you're taking away my time with the goat. Everything that Two-Face did in that movie, the Joker could have done. You know, he could have become Two-Face at the end of the movie with his face in the side of the gasoline and all that stuff. That could have been at the very end.
Starting point is 01:09:50 And then the next movie he could have been like, I want to kill Batman, you know. But whatever. All right. Where are we going? Last question. Jesus, last question? Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:00 Last question. We need to get through like, let's speed round a couple. Okay. Let's speed around a couple. From Dogg on Top 15. Over the next five years, who do you have more confidence in? MCTV shows or Star Wars movies? Star Wars movies, easy.
Starting point is 01:10:18 Star Wars movies. See? what's MCU TV shows because we haven't seen the Star Wars movie and it's going to be five years
Starting point is 01:10:25 in like a couple couple months so we've seen good MCU shows we haven't seen one Star Wars movie so tough in another universe
Starting point is 01:10:37 what fandom movie this comes from Brett McNair what fan of movie with an almost casting or almost made by a different
Starting point is 01:10:44 filmmaker would you like to see like Iron Man with Timit All a fan Spotted Man made by James Cameron etc etc
Starting point is 01:10:50 I would love James Cameron and Spidey. James Cameron, Spidey would have been dope, but it'd have been three hours. I want to see, I want to see Edgar Wright's. That was number one. That's number one on the top. That's number one on the top.
Starting point is 01:11:02 That's number one. Edgar Wright's Amman would have been something fucking special. Do you think we get a different MCU if that happens? Do you think they're like, if that one works, they're like, oh, getting directors who are very talented and have a signature, we'll do this more for now. I don't know about that, but I think that, uh, Ant Man becomes one of our favorite MCU Heroes if that, if that Edgar Wright movie went through. I mean, he's pretty beloved.
Starting point is 01:11:26 I like him. I know, but like, but like. But I think that movie would have been a real all-timer as far as a comic book movie. Yeah. Maybe in that universe, Edgar Wright is head of DC Studios now instead of James County. Oh, here. I got, I got to let one question in. Somebody asked this question. I think it was, my name is Toby. If you had to label each Midnight Boy as an anime character or show, which would it be very quickly? Vance character would be. Maseroshi from Dragon Ball.
Starting point is 01:11:52 You know what I'm saying? Yeah, very powerful. But just out of nowhere, says some shit where you're like, yo, Maserosh, calm down. Nosebleed central. Yeah. But his TV show, you would be attack on Titan because, like, you'll be watching an attack on Titan be like, oh, this is about friendship and brotherhood.
Starting point is 01:12:07 And it's all heartwarming. And then out of nowhere, he'll be like, what happened? Why did he say that? Oh, my God. Like, you're attack on Titan. Joni is Food Wars on Netflix. Have you ever watched Food Wars, Joe? I know of Food Wars, yes.
Starting point is 01:12:22 Have you ever watched Food Wars, Vin? No, I don't know what the hell you're talking about. Food Wars is a basically, it's a cooking school where everybody has like life or death battles for cooking. But the whole thing is like, when you make a really fun dish, like the anime titties pop out. They're like, oh my gosh, this arm that is so great. I want to touch my boobies now. And like- Is porno? No, it's not porn.
Starting point is 01:12:46 You can't. It looks like it, though. Charles, you can't. actually say that without him being activated like that. Like, active like the water soldier? Yeah, yeah. You say a word, Frank car.
Starting point is 01:13:00 And if a van just appears, what? I'm going to watch it. Tell us what you think of. I'm looking up that shit on my phone right now. Jesus Christ. Yo, let's just give Van a Crunchyroll subscription and like a full watch list. And he'll.
Starting point is 01:13:19 That country roll. for listening. Free, free subs we'll lock in. What's Crunchyroll? Crunchyroll is like an anime. Is a channel Crunchyroll. It's an anime streamer. Oh, yeah. It was on, it was on HBO, Max. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:33 They have some shows on there. Steve, you'd be something, you'd be a deep cut. Like, I feel like you would have to be Mecca. So you're one of my favorite Mecca of all time. You're Gurin-Loggin. Oh, I love Gurin-Loggin. I knew you would. That's why you're fucking Gurk. Pierce the sky with your drill.
Starting point is 01:13:49 One more question. Joe Me, like, make it a good one. Last question. Okay. From Caleb Linscombe, rank the MCU Trilogies. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Guardians, Ant-Man, Spider-Man.
Starting point is 01:14:04 Captain America is one easily, in my opinion. Okay. I think it would probably be Guardians number two, for me. Yeah. Then I think Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man.
Starting point is 01:14:22 These are solo characters? Yeah. Ranking those trilogies. Cap is first. Easy. Guardians, then Iron Man, then Spider-Man, then Ant-Man. I would go, Cap, Guardians, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, then, Ant-Man.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Although I do love the first two Ant-Man movies. Damn, Ant-Man has taken ass. Quantumoman did some damage. I don't think that's true. I like the Amman movies. It's not, there's no first Iron Man. There's no Ragnarok. There's no Winter Soldier.
Starting point is 01:15:04 There's no Civil War. There's no Guardians One. There's no Guardians'1. Adam, Ant Man and the Wasp was not good. Y'all need to stop. Ant Man's The Was Was Was, fine. I enjoyed it. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Starting point is 01:15:11 Who said it was, hey. I'm going to do something that's controversial. Okay. As individual movies, the Cap trilogy is the best trilogy. Yeah. As a trilogy of movies, one story and where we end up at the end, the Guardian's trilogy
Starting point is 01:15:32 to me is the best trilogy in the MCU. As individual movies, right? Because you have Winter Soldier, you have the first cat movie that I love, and then you have Captain America Civil War, which has all the Avengers in it. And as an individual movie, fantastic Winter Soldier, as an individual movie, fantastic, and then all of us. But I'm talking about as a trilogy, a story, a complete story trilogy. The best three movies for any solo character, quality movie for movie wise, is Captain America. But I'm talking about this story is over.
Starting point is 01:16:14 My journey with these characters are finished. I feel full. I feel inspired. Everybody gets a complete arc. everything is buttoned up. Guardians is among the best trilogies I've ever seen for that. And it dipped
Starting point is 01:16:29 a little bit in Guardians too, but the way Guardians 3 brought that back and did all of that, it was really phenomenal to me. The MCU has had such a bad year, and this is how we know the MCU is in trouble. The MCU was humming so well before that mediocre movies,
Starting point is 01:16:48 not mediocre movies, but movies that were less than stellar ended up being talked about like they were stellar. Now the MCU is in such a bad position that movies that are actually stellar are kind of being forgotten. And Guardians 3 is a fantastic movie to me. Like fantastic.
Starting point is 01:17:06 Then second would be Cap. Third would be Thor. Fourth would be... What am I missing here? Amriding? Iron Man. and Spider-Man. Oh, what about Iron Man?
Starting point is 01:17:23 Yeah, you're missing Iron Man. Oh. So I put Iron Man over Thor. I was about to say. So I put Iron Man over Thor. Dennis Spidey, Dennis, Ant Man after that. So those are the ones.
Starting point is 01:17:45 I don't know why Spidey is so low, but I think no way home is, I think people are starting to have the conversation again. Is this really the movie we thought it was? I'm telling you we should do a whole Midnight Boys series called Was It Good? And we should just say, I'm not talking about Mulligans. I'm talking about Midnight Mulling's Presents, was it good? Was it good?
Starting point is 01:18:10 Like, was it good? We go back and we look at movies that are beloved and we just talk about, fuck, people always think that we hate on everything. Anyway, let's lean into it. Midnight Mulligan's. Honestly, you know, we do have the midnight 12s. We should start watching some of those movies. Like, hey, could we knock this one off?
Starting point is 01:18:28 Yeah, can we knock this one off? I'm fucking with it. Oh, you know what we should do? It should be two movies. So it should be one movie that we have is at 12 and maybe one that's on the cusp. We should have to rewatch both of them. Be like, eh, maybe these 12s weren't because. Maybe they, like, maybe they not.
Starting point is 01:18:48 I mean, I'm winning because I think sometimes, you know, a movie's, a movie's reputation gets it to 12. I'll put Logan up the first one. Y'all got Logan as a 12. I'm like, come on. That's going to be hard. All right. One last question only because, you know, it's that type of holiday season. We love y'all.
Starting point is 01:19:09 This one comes from Sharik. I wanted to ask you guys what your favorite. It comes from Shirek. Shariq, bro. Let me go get the motherfucking bulletproof. prove this. Jesus Christ. Damn.
Starting point is 01:19:20 Oh, Steve, speaking of the Shirek, Steve, real quick, before we get there, where are we with going to O-Block? Speaking of Shirek, Steve is the craziest
Starting point is 01:19:29 ever. Oh, my God. Where are we with going to O-Block, Steve? Keep the clock running. Okay. Damn. All right.
Starting point is 01:19:39 So you're not trying to go down there and see them. I'm not there. I'm in L.A. right now. Yeah, but you've been. You did, okay, it's fine. Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:19:45 Go ahead and do it. I do the thing. I feel, I see you, Steve. Like Avatar. I see you. From Shrek Raja. I wanted to ask you guys, your favorite Midnight Boys moment has what your favorite
Starting point is 01:19:58 Midnight Boys moment has been over the few years you've been doing the pod. Like Dori LaForge or Quarter Flipin or all those great moments. What is our favorite? It's easy. It's not even, I mean, this will be a midnight, this will probably go down as the greatest Midnight Boys moment in history to me. Black superhero draft. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:17 Yeah. Like Charles trying to, like, I don't see how it gets better. You know what I'm saying? I don't, like, I really don't see how it gets better. Like, that's, that's quintessential midnight boys. It really, that's, that really, I'm going to remember that for the rest of my life. That, that was, that was definitely our peak. But we had, no, quarter flipping already, quarter flipping was a moment because it was,
