On Friday and Saturday, Ben gives you
back-to-back episodes on
Castlevania, Belmont's
curse, and the new street fighter
movie. Now, before we get into this,
Simon Belmont, I must say.
So, I love him.
O.G. I love Simon Belmont.
And it's not because I ever
fuck with Castlevania like that.
It's because there was a
cartoon
back in the day
and the cartoon was about
this kid
that got pulled into
the Nintendo game
Oh, of Castlevania.
No, it wasn't of Castlevania.
It was just pulled into a Nintendo world, period.
And the people that were in the Nintendo world
that were on his side,
that were his friends that he was fighting
against the evil forces,
were Simon Belmont,
Mega Man,
a couple of the, but it was a cartoon with all the
Nintendo characters. It was a TV show. Can I remember the name of it?
At the beginning, he was like,
he was on his couch, he was playing the
the playing the deal. And then he had, Captain N. Game Master?
Captain in the Game Master.
He got, he got Asa Khan into a Nintendo World.
He's like he's riding a Game Boy.
Captain in the Game Master. And right there,
and Captain in the Game Master, right. That guy
right there, that's Simon Belmont.
Okay. So Simon Belmont's in the game.
I've never heard.
Wait, that's Simon Belmont, the adventure man with the whip?
Yes, that's Simon Belmont.
That's not Simon Belmont.
He was in there.
Captain in the game master.
Okay.
Captain Ann is a crazy.
He was out there with him.
Captain N.
Captain N.
Captain N.
All right.
Simon was finished that.
He was whipping Captain End.
Programming reminders.
Hey, whoa.
Captain in the game master.
I don't know.
We got our hashtag today.
Captain in the game master?
Master.
Master.
What's your name?
Captain in the game master.
There was plenty of your face, bro.
That was the name of, we didn't even get it.
I was around there probably like being incepting into race.
Like the same thing, like, you know, you're playing with the deuce of hazard car.
You're watching Captain in the Game Master.
Then the next thing you know, can you watch it?
Okay.
All right.
But yeah, Ben's going to do that.
So shout out to Simon Belmont.
It was a Captain in the Game Master.
and the Streetfire movie, which is coming out, which are we going to do that?
I don't know.
I think so.
We might do that.
Okay.
We should do the digger episode as well.
I think so, too.
You really want to do the digger episode.
All right.
We should do the digger episode.
But today's episode, we ain't doing none of that.
No ends, no master, no diggers, no niggers.
Today, we are reacting to this two episode premiere.
Oh.
See, you're doing it again.
It's fun.
Have fun joke.
No.
I was going to have a joke, but I left it.
I was like, it's okay.
No, say it.
No, it's okay.
No potting scared.
No potting fucking scared in New York.
Okay.
All right.
Then, you know what?
It's cool.
You know what I'm playing.
I'm going to be cool because you're not cool right now, but I'm going to be cool right now.
No pot scared.
We had to bleak one of your words from.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
That's what I thought.
That's what I thought.
Um, today's episode, we react to the two episode premiere of Vision,
quest.
We're going to be
spool in a lot of things.
Guys, we're going to
spill some stuff
from shows
gone past.
We're going to spoil some stuff
from this show.
Wanda Vision,
Agatha, Agatha,
all along.
Wanda Vision, Agatha.
Age of Ultron.
Age of Ultron.
Aye, man.
End game.
He was in all of the shit,
okay?
Steve, give me a spoiler warning.
We're getting ready
to talk about
Vision oppressed.
You're listening
to a reaction
podcast.
The spoilers are coming.
Okay, to begin our reactions, we bring you the Midnight Manifest,
talking about the need to know.
Now, guys, this is going to be robust.
This is two episodes.
So stay with Charles for a little while.
Chuck, take it away.
All right, this is your Midnight Manifesto, Vision Quest,
the first two episodes directed by Christopher J. Burn and written by Terry Madaless.
White Vision works in an old Edinburgh pub that the original vision used to frequent with Wanda.
Our new vision has none of the emotional maturity or lived experience of the old vision,
just his body and memories. To help bridge the gap, Vision has constituted a family of AIs
inside his brain to help him understand human emotions better. This family is comprised of
Jarvis, Edith, Friday, Dummy, you, and Ultron. When Vision watches a movie of his old life,
he's met with an unwelcome film of Wanda Vision, which forces him to confront his imprisoned father
and last AI, Ultron. Left to his own devices, Ultron gives the Palladin information on Visions
whereabouts, which leads to the death of Fiona, the pub owner. From there, Vision is pulled
into a game of cat and mouse as the paladin
kidnaps his potential son Tommy,
a speedster and con man living in London
who struggles with his newfound powers and memories
of being the son of Scarlet Witch and the Vision.
In the second episode, we flashed back to
Thomas getting arrested en route to a brutal sanatorium.
On the bus, he meets his partner in crime,
Lisa, and uses his burgeoning speed
powers to mount an escape. In the present,
Vision huddles with his AI family to learn about
the paladin, bounty hunter from an ancient line
of bounty hunters. With the push of
Ultron, Vision decides to save Tommy
but walks into an EMP prison that
saps his powers. With a pet talk from Tommy, Vision breaks out but is wounded by the Paladin's
vibranium shotgun bullets. On death door, Jarvis sacrifices himself to save Vision and the rest of his
AI brothers and sisters while Tommy and Vision escape. That has been long midnight manifest
for the first two episodes of Vision Quest. And I'll start us off. It's sad to see
an MCU show cooking this hard when no one's in the restaurant.
because I enjoyed the first two episodes of Vision Quest quite a bit.
What do you mean no one's in the restaurant?
You know, I think the MCU has been on a little bit of a lull,
and I hope people really show up for this because I was blown away.
This is one of my favorite premieres.
We don't really, yeah, we don't know whether or not people are going to fuck with it or not.
I think that, you know, did it, uh,
well, you're surprised at it's what I thought these two episodes were phenomenal.
I thought they were really good.
I thought they were great.
It's the fact that you like it.
Yeah, I thought that the first episode was of the show was some table setting.
But by the time we get into the second episode, the first episode was good, but it was some table setting.
By the time we get into the second episode, I thought the show like really, really kicked up a notch.
It was fantastic.
And why was, do you, do you think there's going to be a tepid response to Vision Quest?
No, no, no.
I don't think it's going to be a tepid response.
I first, this Vision Quest show has, I feel like, been in the works for a while now.
and with the hooplau over lanterns
and just everything that's happened this year,
I feel like Vision Quest might have gotten lost in the sauce.
And I don't even,
and which is weird,
which is I'm like,
Wanda Vision is easily among the best things
that they have ever done.
So why wouldn't the trilogy kind of keep up the momentum?
It was a show that I was not necessarily like looking forward to.
I didn't know what to expect.
And immediately once they dropped me into the world,
it was just vision as a character to me is fascinating.
and what Paul Bettney and Spader are doing
in these first two episodes,
I was just like taken away.
Right.
So let's talk about like the show itself
and how we responded to being back into this world.
This is a corner of the MCU
that has its own rhythm,
its own look, its own feel.
And you don't realize that you're not in it
until you're back in it.
And so the moment I'm dropped back into this,
a couple of things got to me.
Number one,
the way that they tell these stories
in a very human way, but not in a straightforward way at all.
So vision is in the world, and we start the story there with vision in the world, he's in the
bar, he's being asked about Scarlet Witch.
It starts in his humanity, his trauma, what he's been through.
And then we juxtapose that to going inside of his mind where all of these AIs who have
essentially been orphaned are his friends and also his helpers, his team.
His family, essentially, right?
And so you see Vision.
pulled out of the family that he had created with being part of the Avengers, him and Wanda
and everything like that and his kids while he was imprisoned in Westview or created at Westview.
And you see, he has a new family, which seems to be a common thread in vision, whether
or not he's human enough to actually have a family.
He feels human.
He picks up the hammer in the very first movie that he's in.
He's virtuous.
He's altruistic.
But is he alive enough to be?
able to have families surrounding him and to be stable and to be a part of humanity.
And they go right back there, which is awesome.
And I also think what is kind of ingenious about the trilogy now that I think we can have
like a bird's eye view about this is that each show has done such a good job of setting up
family as its core.
Yeah.
Wanda basically creating an entire reality to recapture a family that was taken away
from her.
Agatha and Billy coming together with the magic angle and I think a more matriarchal female perspective and then coming with Vision, which his family is probably the one I'm most interested in because it just has that nostalgic feeling of we're getting to see the human aspects of Friday, Edith and Dummy and all these other characters.
And what I like about this is I almost feel like
what it does maybe better than lanterns is
of course they're going to use the human versions of these people
to,
to shut, like to save on budget,
but you get a different type of emotional center.
What do you can see, James Spader?
So with Vision, real quick, real quick,
sure, sure.
Like, with Vision, it's important to note this about the character.
The rest of the Avengers live,
to their lives and then joined
the Avengers for whatever reason.
Vision was born into
the Avengers. So Vision
was first deployed
as, like he legitimately
was first deployed as
a baby who had parents
fighting over what his purpose should be.
And his entire arc
in the MCU has been to
find his own purpose, to find his own
settling, to find his own footing. And as soon
as he finds it, it always gets snatched away.
So I think that like when we're
The thing that we feel with this character being connected to this character is this happy ending is not one that has ever been promised or not one that was ever even supposed to exist.
He was created for a purpose and he continuously is in search of a new one.
And so, like, watching him around other AIs that have the same backstory that were also created for a purpose but feel like now they have their own.
relationship to one another, their own way of looking at things,
who in episode two are afraid for their lives,
it's just really, really fascinating.
Yeah, I was, I'll be honest,
it was kind of a harder sell for me personally,
getting into this show only because of the fact that, like,
this show is taking on a lot conceptually,
like, kind of like how Wanda Vision did,
but like with Wanda Vision, it was like the extended mystery
of what is happening in Westview and what is happening to Wanda.
This is like, okay, we can,
we have to kind of personify and articulate what is going on inside of Vision's head with
essentially imprisoning his equivalent of people, which are just AIs that he like copy and paste it
into his own mind and are holding prisoner in order to kind of figure out what his sense of
self is. That's already a lot for the show to do and for the show to tell us. I think what
the show for me like struggled with in the beginning and then capitalized on in the second half,
is kind of understanding of the fact
that White Vision is a copy still
of the original vision.
What makes you think that he's holding the prisoner?
Because he's holding Ultron
prisoner. He wants to get out. Well, Ultron
is a murder bot.
Right, exactly.
Ultron should, by all sort.
I don't think he's imprisoning the rest of them.
I don't think they wouldn't be alive
if not for him. Right. But the fact that he's not
like kind of sending them out into the ether
and keeping them to do what?
Into the net, into everything else.
because, like, if he lets Ultron out.
Ultron, he went to Sokovia
to recover him.
Yeah, Ultron's existence,
Ultron shouldn't even exist.
Ultron's existence is being facilitated by vision
who can't kill him.
Ultron is a pernicious AI
that seeks to take over things
and get the nuclear codes
and bend the earth to his will.
Ultron is insanely dangerous.
It should be there in the first time.
He should be that.
He fucked up.
Yeah.
But in service to life,
like Edith and
dummy and everybody else and Jarvis as well
to know that they are sort of
like not his servants, but like
the things that are like his sitcom family
essentially to kind of like orient him
in a world that he doesn't understand.
That to me is like a lot to understand
that it's just going on in his mind and not like
personifying real people. Maybe it's my own
cynicism of the fact that AI is.
Absolutely is because I'm watching that. I'm like
he got his own little homies man.
Like Jarvis or Jarvis is his older brother.
right which is great kind of his dad too but like we don't talk about that but like
ed how is jarvis his dad well because they uh put the jarvis AI into
yeah yeah yeah and then that morphed into vision you know what I'm saying so he's got Ultron
he's got Tony Stark Bruce Banner uh Ultron and um Darvis in there's a freaky ass sex party
you know what I mean but like Edith is like the pronosis like little sister man I'm excited
I don't do this of Friday is like you know the like smart old like older middle
siblings like guys, man, here's how we like think about things. And Jarvis is the older,
older brother is like, yo, man, like, look, he pulled the older brother car like, oh,
a bunch of times. Like, you all I've been around the block, man. I know how this thing goes.
You know, I thought, like, him doing that was not him. Like, again, he's like super lonely.
Let me go get my other homies that I know from around the block and let's all come here
to be together because where else would they be? Exactly. Right. So I didn't, I don't find that bad
at all. I thought it was hilarious how they had them, like, dummy and you from a way.
back with. They're just the maintenance workers.
And they don't talk. They don't speak. They don't speak because they didn't have voices in the
movies. And they're not that good at their jobs.
Right. It's just like it's just like the movies. Yeah. It's a little too cutesy. But like
once I was in the world like when Ultron is yelling at the fucking door that guy. I'm sorry.
No, that's great. That's great. But part of that though is Spader man. Spader's
he's so good. He's so good. Like there's the part in, I don't know for the first episode.
I can't remember, but they drag him down.
And he's like, ah, yeah, I sent the email, carry a picture, whatever they're calling it.
But big dog, it's time for you to lock in.
You've been hiding in Edinburgh this whole time.
We're not trying to, I'm not trying to do all that.
But even in that episode, when he, when dummy and you are trying to get him out of the, like,
elevator, he's like, you have to turn.
I'm like, Iron Man.
Like, I was just, I was like the arm.
And there was like little choices throughout this episode where even when they're in,
Vision's mind, I realize I'm like, oh, the fireplace is an actual fire because they don't need it.
It's like digital pixel. It's like a digital pixel. And they have little things throughout this where
I'm like, oh, in the same way that Wanda Vision used sitcoms as a way into show Wanda psyche, I like
the fact that so much of Vision's mental world is trying to recapture humanity, but he does not
understand humanity, so everything is just a little off.
Yeah, both Wanda and Vision suffer from the same problem,
which is that people are watching them because they feel that they are their creations.
Yeah.
Like, Wanda, in this version of the, um, uh, of her story, received her powers through
Zemo, not Zemo, like, which, which, uh, was the other guy,
Barron, uh, wasn't Zemo.
I know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the other German dude.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
experimenting on them.
Yeah, like through the stone,
like experimenting them with them through the stone.
Some of that stuff is latent.
Some of that stuff is already there.
She's next to me.
But they use the stone to kind of bring some her,
to bring her powers out.
And so when she's not in pocket,
either with Hydra,
who was experimenting with her,
or with the Avengers or with Shield,
she has to be watched.
She has the monitor.
So they were watching her
and keeping her in the whole Westview situation
so they could like figure out
like how dangerous she,
years or what they were going to do if they couldn't control her, right?
And part of that show was us observing, like, who's watching her and why?
Same thing here, right?
Vision has been recreated.
He's kind of Vision, but kind of not.
Tommy is kind of his son, but kind of not.
But someone has hired Paladin to go get Vision because he's just simply too dangerous to
be untethered.
He's too dangerous to be human.
Human beings get to do whatever they want.
They get to have free will.
They get to go places.
except for some of them.
Some human beings, governments and other people overlords deem too dangerous to be untethered,
to be left alone.
You got to surveil them.
You got to watch them.
You got to look at them.
And that's kind of the space that we see vision in.
And whereas it feels like he had the type of life that he wanted at first, in these first two episodes,
things get so complicated for him.
Yes.
And so they like, the show weighs no time.
Pedal to the metal getting you right to the bullshit.
It was kind of insane to know that, like, we already had, like, a big emotional sacrifice from Jarvis to, like, essentially so that everybody could live.
Episode two.
This happens.
And I don't want to say that it felt inert only because it was so fast that it happened.
But I was like, oh, we're going to go places very quickly in this show.
And it's going to waste no time.
And I think that was a little disorienting for me only slightly because, again, I don't want to unfairly compare this to lanterns.
But it was only because.
Yeah, can we make up?
We got to stop.
No, no, it's a more talk.
I'm not going to, but it's from a show.
We just got here, right.
I know, I know, I know.
We have to make sure that every show can breathe and exist in its own thing.
And it's-Landers is done.
Shout out to everybody out there.
Lanterns is done.
Let's try if we can to analyze this show or something.
And I only say that because it's, I'm coming from a show that did a lot of showing and telling
versus a show now in Vision Quest that's done quite a bit of telling in the first episode.
And then we're right into action in the second.
I mean,
I like the first episode because even where we start with Vision in Edinburgh,
they do such a good job of like, okay, we know he's in paid because he's returned to the same
pub that his old self would work at.
Soothing.
That's where him and Wanda would come through.
And that's what, like, if you remember Infinity War, that was the only time that Wanda
and Vision really had a life
outside of the Avengers.
So already, like, if you
remember, like, fucking Infinity War,
it's not like Vision had that much time
to even realize a life out,
to your point, he was born in, he was born
in the Avengers, and then him and Wanda
are trying to make a life outside of it,
and it gets robbed. Like two years.
Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. What was it between?
They say, like, we were sneaking around for the last,
like, couple months, whatever, like, stealing moments.
And then, Infinity War, they're like, what
I never took that train.
What if I stopped taking all the trains
and we just lived our lives?
And then obviously, you know,
the Black Order came and stabbed him
and then he died like two days later.
Like that kind of stuff happens.
And like that's for him in that moment, like,
well, again, it's not our vision, right?
But like when he's going to the movies
and he's replaying all that stuff,
he's looking around like, I kind of,
I didn't really have a life to your point.
I mean, yeah.
I was just a machine.
I was somebody who fought and died
and didn't really get a chance to live
and be human, what's that like?
I'd like to live like that.
Even that question, the question is,
what makes vision vision?
What makes a person person?
Is it your creation or your consciousness?
Right?
We've seen that in a couple of different comic books
and sci-fi situations.
Are you vision because you are supposed to be vision?
Are you vision because someone created you to be vision?
But are you vision because you feel like vision?
Like what makes you human?
What makes you a person?
Is it like where you're born, who your parents are,
or the experiences that you're,
get while you're going through all of that.
Because then that means if I had your consciousness, I could be Charles inside my body.
I could be jumping.
That would be crazy.
That would be nuts, right?
So, like that.
And Vision and Tommy are both going through that same thing.
Spader as Ultron is an interesting grounding force here.
Because it seems as if him as Ultron getting out, getting into it, should I say, in the first episode, he's to keep a real naked character.
he is the character that's like
everybody else is kind of in a sitcom
he's in a single
camera drama where his job is to come in
and tell all of these children because he's like
the dad the grandpa, the pee paul
all of this, to tell all of these children how the world
really works. And that dynamic
is really working. You already brought
this up, not to bring it up again, but it's
they had a Hannibal moment in this, a Manhunter
moment where he seems like
in the same way Sedetra was this Hannibal character.
This guy seems like the Hannibal character
of like, oh, every single time he goes up to that prison,
it's like a weird thing was like,
what if Hannibal was your dad?
Yeah.
And what if like the same thing that like,
it's interesting where it's like Tony Stark is dead.
I don't know where this is in at in the timeline,
Bruce Banner is off somewhere.
Yeah.
So the only real grounding force that vision has in his life,
besides the other AIs,
is one of his creators.
And his creator, you don't,
You can't tell if like, because Spader, to your point, is giving him that real
nigga shit, but sometimes like, but you're manipulating him as well.
You know where you want him to go so you can escape.
And I found Bettany and Spader's chemistry in this super electric.
Whenever they're on the screen together, I was, oh, shit.
When they're, when they're arguing about whatever, in that, in that room where it's obviously
like the top, because you can see like the, the mindstone in the window.
That's the window.
Yeah, that's brilliant.
Like, yeah, when they're going back and forth, that's obviously the best part of the show.
I think the thing that's really working for me, like, outside of, like, Spader and Bettney.
Man, shout on my guy, Jarvis, bro.
Jarvis.
Y'all wasn't locked in, you know.
You saw my end game.
He was like, oh, that's, oh, okay, cool.
Agent Carter, though.
Agent Carter, y'all weren't there, man.
No, yeah.
Not enough.
Make the point.
Like, we weren't there.
He was great in Agent Carter.
He was why it was so impactful when he should.
showed up an end game.
And so for me, you know, following that journey to see him turn to dust and turn
into his original source code, that was legitimately like, awful.
I was like, dang.
I've been winning for a long time.
I've been with him for almost a decade, man.
That's the homie, man.
He gave his life.
He gave his life for the problem.
Vision a whole ass idiot.
Like, when he, I was like Vision.
Oh, man.
You got Jarvis fucking murked over nothing.
So this is, you know, I like that.
I like that because Vision going to walk in there.
First of all, when they came for vision in the original action piece of this,
where Paladin, we have to talk about Paladin as villain,
where Paladin sends his minions vision.
I'm like, what are they doing?
Right.
Like, they're going up against the-
Bustin AK-47 is that vision.
They throwing grenades in there, like his calling duty.
He can be intangible.
What the fucker?
They come in, they shoot the lady, no purpose.
By the way, Paladin claims he doesn't like collateral damage.
He collateral.
He doesn't forget because the homie that kid, the sniper, he's just like, man, fuck the clatter of damage.
I told you.
Yeah.
And he bops him.
So he probably.
But then the guy who comes into the guy that was running the prison bus that Tommy and his companion were on, he tries to take out the little glow stick on palin.
Pallon.
He hit him with the glow stick and then shot him in the head.
Yeah.
Why?
He wasn't an asshole, though.
He was a asshole.
If he was an asshole, come.
But why?
Just hit him with the gold stick.
Punch him in this shit.
No, he deserved to die.
He hit him with the ghost stick and then boom, right?
Like, well, so you're trying to keep alive the dude.
I just fucking torturing the black homie.
I just don't believe.
I don't believe in the fucking panic attack.
I just don't know.
Due process, bro.
Do process.
Process.
He processed.
He processed.
So look.
So I think that, though, the fact that they sent these brute force attacks at, at Vision
was.
a way to actually make him feel comfortable.
Like, I'll tell you what I mean.
So they sent all of that at Vision.
They can't fuck with me.
Vision.
The bullets are bouncing off of me, all that stuff.
Even though he knows it's a trap,
he probably takes the chance after calculation
because he doesn't think that they have the technology
or the wherewithal to hurt him at all.
So he's going to go in there.
It's a trap.
They're going to try to brute force him.
Maybe he should have suspected that they would have had something more,
but they didn't until he got.
into that room. He knew it was a trap, but he legitimately
underestimated his enemy because of what they had already
showed him, right? Oh, that's fair. So I think that they lulled him into that
false sense of security, which you could argue. Shouldn't happen to like
a fucking, like he went in there and he what he said he calculated. He's going
through a bit of crisis. Well, you said he ran a simulation. How many times?
How powerful is this vision compared to our vision? Is it the same? Because it's the
mindstone. He doesn't have the mindstone. He doesn't have the mindstone, but like it's the same
body, right? Like, Adamantium.
I don't know if it's adamantium.
It's because it's vibranium.
Yeah, this is vibranium.
I thought he was saying that he's using adamantium bullets to...
Palin was.
Oh, to countervibrates.
Oh, right.
Palin was using Adam.
Correct, correct.
Which is interesting.
So...
No, because even when they were reading,
when Vision in the first episode is reading the newspaper,
I'm almost positive in the article,
there was just like, adamantium stolen.
And wasn't there adamantium stolen in the cat, the new...
Yeah, I mean, because Tiamat is made of Adamantium.
Yes.
So I'm reading this right here.
right and it says
I'm not gonna tell you where I got it
it says that this vision
has no moral restraints
he was white vision
well well he did
blow up the other dude white vision
in the hospital
the other vision was
was stronger
slightly at the mindstone
but not that he's white
well he's trying to fight
he was killing indiscriminately
he was killing
motherfuckers I was like
and they used blood
it.
Marvel got bloody this one.
Bloody.
Well, Blaine.
Can we talk about Paladin real quick?
I love this guy.
I love Caledonin.
He's very cool.
This is a great.
This is the type of villain that I did not ever think that I would see in the MCU.
I don't know that I ever thought they're going to put Paladin in this.
Yeah, he's a bit of a canonical jogger or like jobber.
Like he's not really like that.
He'd be showing up.
Yeah.
Not in any real.
He's a character has a deep, deep.
history. It's a deep cut. One of the,
one of the, I guess, most
successful bounty hunters that
exist in Marvel. Would you, who are the top five bounty hunters in
Barney hunters and Barney Hunters? Who are the bounty hunters? Oh, Taskmaster.
So, Taskmaster's a bounty hunter. Deadpool's number one. Well, Deadpool's
kind of a bounty hunter, but we can put deadpool. I feel like a mercenary bounty hunter
is the same thing. Yeah. Soldier of fortune. So Deadpool. Taskmaster.
Taskmaster.
technically
Gamoor
I don't know
Craven
Craven
Craven yeah
Craven
Does Bullseye take contracts
Yeah bullseye
Yeah
Like let's separate
though
Assassin and bounty hunting
No but here's the thing
If you take
Because who hires
Bullseye
Mm-hmm
Like people that want people killed
That makes you a bounty hunter
Electra is technically
a bounty hunter
Silver Sable
And Bounty Hunter
Sable, same thing.
Yeah.
What's the difference here?
Let's ask, let's ask, now I'm just joking.
I'm not going to ask.
All right, you about to get it.
This article is bringing out a lot of deep cuts.
So it's saying that like,
bounty hunters, this is not true of Paladin.
Right.
Bounty hunters typically operate under statutory legal
or contractual authority such as bail enforcement.
Nah, this is this.
Bail enforcement.
All right.
This whole ass shit.
This whole ass shit.
Because like, that's like dog.
Like dog, the bounty hunter.
was right like a bail bondsman
but in comics comics
I pay you money
you take this person back because about her is different
from assassins to your point because you just take
like assassins then you got like black widow
in there and I feel like assassin
has just killed them bounty hunter is taking a dead
or a life well you could also be an assassin
but for
a government sure like
and then that you're an assassin
like for a government like if you're Jason
born you work for Trentstone
you get paid but you're more
sort of like sent out to do government
shit work. You're assassin for the government, right?
Bounty hunter will sometimes capture people.
And I guess some of the Merks that we talk about would do that too.
Well, yeah. Paladin is like, I need him alive.
Like, we can't.
To give him to his client.
The bounty is like they, he has to.
Like, Deathstroke to me is not a bounty hunter.
He's an assassin.
Yeah.
Deadpool to me is an assassin and a bounty hunter because he can, he's hot.
Like people hire Deadpool to go do contracts.
All it is to say that Paladin is a bounty hunter
and an assassin
and an assassin in Marvel
and he
he's not
a bad guy
in the comics.
He is a bad guy
but from what I used to like
am I wrong about this?
Like when I used to read...
I'm not up on Paladin like that I cannot say that I'm
He was he was popping a copic he wasn't like a bad guy though
like he was somebody who would be
he would do the bounty and then like
like he would be trying to do it, right?
And then if you pushed him too far, he wouldn't do it.
Huh.
So it's kind of like Taskmaster.
Taskmaster's kind of, he's like an anti-hero
whereas like he'll do the job, but sometimes he's like,
he's got a bit of a code.
Yeah, like you put, yeah, a bit of a code.
A little bit of a code.
Man's got to have a code.
Man got to have a code.
You push him too far and he wouldn't do it.
As a matter of fact, like he would like, sometimes Paladin would like freak out a little bit.
I think he wasn't in a lot of comments, but you would see him in some comics like
he would pop up.
And then at times, you would,
he would be like a
I feel like I'm wrong
No no no no
He was like a
Sometimes he was a fake ass hero though
No
He was maybe but like
But I don't know how you do that in this show
Because he already kidnapped the kid
You know what I'm saying
Oh no he would do gnarly shit now
He would do gnarly shit
But then somebody would be like
Okay so like he would he would be like
So it would be like this
Like he would do something that was gnarly
And then they would be like
Okay now kill the kid
He'd be like now I'm not killing the kid
capture him.
Yeah, and then he would like bring the kid to daredevil.
Like he'd bring the kid to daredevil.
And he'd be like, hey, man, I captured the kid, but they want me to kill the kid.
I want to kill the kid.
Right.
And then he bring a kid to daredevil.
Him and Daredevil would be like, now we got to save the kids.
Okay.
And then he would leave.
That's like, one battle after another.
He's like, I don't do kids.
That's, that's, yeah.
That's palaging.
Yeah.
From what I'm a good point because, I mean, I'm just talking about right now.
Like, who hired him?
I immediately, I know.
I know.
I just know it.
I know.
Who hired him?
Billy. I don't think Billy.
I hear it in his voice.
The sound modulation isn't that good.
I can hear him. My first thought was also Billy, but I was like,
Billy's paying him a lot of money where Billy get his bread from.
He's a witch. He can just manifest.
I guess that's like.
So Billy is to the point now to where Billy getting people killed.
I mean, maybe.
That's what I was. My first thought was in.
For the sake of his dad, maybe.
Wait, really, really quick. This is on, this is on Wikipedia Paladin.
Although not a supervillain, his mercenary activities often bring him into conflict with superheroes facing characters like Daredevil and the Punisher.
So you're right.
He's a little bit of a wild card.
This is not saying he's a villain.
He's an anti-hero.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
Well, that feels like it feels like it was saying that I was wrong.
What is it?
No, he said, although not a supervillain, his mercenary activities often bring him into conflict of superheroes.
Oh, okay, okay, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because he would, he would like be, like, just like I said, he would be.
be on a mission to get the money, and then, like, he would get too crazy.
He would get too crazy.
He's like, hey, man, I'm not, you know, I'm not doing that.
So here's the thing.
I feel like we saw Jo Costa in the trailer.
In the trailer.
I feel like it's probably Jocasta, right?
That would make more sense.
It would make more sense.
You could fudge, like, you like, Ultron, how he fudged the money in the age of Ultron
where he just gave, what's it called?
It's all just digital transfers.
Yeah.
Because Billy not getting.
That's all saying.
That's all right.
I'm only going off of the voice.
Like, I'm just closing my eyes and I'm like, who does that?
sound like. Hey, we're going to do another
top five. Oh, yeah. I like it.
I like it. Wait, let's do the top five now.
Who hired Pallity?
Okay, so let's let's let's, let's, so
Wanda's dead. That was
a funny show. Kind of not really though. Kind of
not really. That would be a zag though, so let's
just put Wanda on the list. Sure.
At five.
She literally was like, yeah, she
under a she got crushed. Yeah,
she could be like that. What happened? What happened
your wee last? She got crushed under a mountain.
So Wanda at five. One day five.
sure um that's that's just a wild that's not wow yeah but that's like i put billy at four so we put
billy at four i don't think billy got the heart billy got the heart to hire a dude to like maybe
like he might accidentally kill your brother yeah who else even exists in this world that we know of
that it could be so these are all characters that are that i've shown been featured prominently in
this trilogy right so who else who on the board i feel like they would
have to be connected to Iron Man?
Or Wanda Vision.
Okay, what about anybody from Sword?
Are there any, like,
anybody from-
Who do we know from Sword?
So I'm saying, like,
are there any, like,
lingering people from Sword?
I mean, you could argue, like,
Nick Fury, but, like,
that seems like...
He would never do that to Vision,
no, he wouldn't set out of Vision.
All right.
I'm trying to think,
and this is another interesting part of this,
I'm trying to think,
really, of who this is.
Like, Billy has a motive wanting to get the family back together or talk to his dad or whatever.
But I feel like he could just pull up on him.
Why would he go through all this?
I'm trying to also think of like possible doomsday tie-ins of like,
how could this possibly Daisy chain into that?
Like I said, I feel like, you know what?
Ultron talking that crazy shit.
And his wife is like, hey, yo, I'm still out here, you know?
I'm claiming my son.
I'm coming to...
Claiming my son.
What?
What?
I think we probably will get to Kostra, but at the same time, like, where, where, where, where, we're she been at this whole time, right?
Well, we don't know what Ultron was out to in Sokovia when he was just the body.
Yeah.
Hey.
I'll ask you a question. There's no way that it's doom, right?
There is no way.
Okay.
All right.
Let's put Doom at three.
Let's put Doom at three.
There's no way.
Guys, let's put Doom at negative a thousand.
There's no way.
And, you, Robert.
This is what we was doing at WandaVision.
He was like, Mephisto.
Oh, yeah, Mephisto.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Now that you bring him up.
Oh, stop, stop.
No.
Hey.
He officially in the MCU now.
Yes, he is.
But there's no.
What does Mephisto possibly want with this?
I have no fucking clue.
But now that you bring him up.
What does Satan want?
Put Mephisto.
I might as well put Mr. Sinister on the fucking leash now.
Y'all gonna be bad at me, man.
What?
Power broker.
Oh, that's right.
We back.
Y'all are going to be so bad.
We're bad.
Man, the shadow, the shadow broke your days.
It's 2020.
Power broker, Bifisto, Reefords, bitch.
Man, remember Reed Richards?
You know, we were so down bad for that.
They thought for sure.
Reed Richards is an aerospace engineer.
I'm like, they thought for sure was to get,
Magina with that thing, bro.
Oh, man.
Remember if I were the winner soldier
when they went to Badgerpore?
I'm like, all right.
Here's Wolverine.
We're getting them.
All right, so these are,
so before we, let's do this.
Before, so these are all the people
who we could possibly be.
Right.
Who could possibly have hired Paladin.
Let's just run it back as far as like the big question.
Doom is now number five.
By the way, I have to say something here.
Uh, I want to be completely honest with the audience.
Okay.
When we were doing lanterns,
which I'm bringing it up.
You shouldn't bring it up.
When we were doing lanterns,
we were getting advanced screeners of the show.
But we were getting them one at a time.
Yes.
Okay?
We were getting them one at a time.
So we would get an advanced screen of the show.
Just as you guys know,
that helps us get this podcast out
right after the show premieres for you guys.
But we're not getting a full season
of lanterns and advanced screeners.
So there was nothing that we were theorizing about.
that the screeners were revealing to us.
Right.
What we can say and should say right now
is that we got the full season of this show.
Right.
Okay.
I only watched it first.
We have not watched it.
We will commit to the audience
to watch these shows
as they are being released.
Yes.
There could be some
that are going to throw out theories
and stuff like that.
When let's be honest, they already know.
Okay.
But the, like, our partners over at
over at Disney
gave us this so that we could watch it
so that we could put these shows out on time
for you guys. But all of
our theories and the theorizing that
we do are, it's going to be in good faith
because we are going to watch these
as they come out.
Correct. Okay. As we are recording them.
Theoretically, we could get through the whole season
in the week. But like, and then just put them business out.
Yeah. And then I go on Polymarket and then put bets on Billy.
I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that.
Hey, man, LeBron, doc.
Hey, hey, bro.
Like, I'm going to say, Steve, right?
The block is hot at the ringer.
Yeah, okay.
Maybe we cut that.
Just chill out.
So, but, but, but, uh, in order to stay in community with our audience,
we're not going to lead you down the path of, so these, uh, dumb ass theories that we're
coming up with, we really mean.
We have no idea.
We're not going to watch ahead.
So there you go.
Right.
To pull back the curtain for you guys so you guys know how it goes.
Okay, cool.
Nice.
Uh, now back to it.
Let's, let's, let's put all the names.
and I had again. Who do we got?
Doom at five.
Well, let's let's throw all the names out and then we can put a top of it.
Billy Wanda.
Dune.
So stupid.
This is so stupid.
The power broker.
The power broker.
Billy Wanda, Doom, the power broker.
Who else did we say?
Ticasta.
Yeah.
Fury.
Fury.
Sure.
Fury wouldn't do this guy.
That's what I'm saying.
Furi would not do this.
You think Fury going to send people to try to
No, I said why would he have any connection?
He don't get a fuck about Vision.
Yeah, okay.
Vision, yeah.
Vision.
Are they gonna bring Vishan back?
Vashan?
Why is he?
Vashon?
Nah, man, he died.
With the turtlenex.
Okay, who else?
Who else?
Is that all the names that we threw out there?
Yeah.
Okay.
Death.
Oh, Mifisto.
Mephisto.
Yeah.
We threw Mephisto.
Why not?
I mean, what?
I feel like Pepper could just make a call, man.
Happy Hogan.
Tell him.
Pepper could fix so many of these problems.
Okay.
So, and I'll throw one last one in need.
What about damage control?
Um,
Stewie back there.
Like, yeah, we need.
Yeah, what about damage control?
But the bad PR after Spider-Man, you know,
they can't go out after him and then so.
They got to go through back channels.
Right.
I'm still thinking about the Stark connection.
Because, like, this is technically stark tech.
It is Stark tech.
It is.
Who's running Stark right now?
If my fucking business-owned vision, I'm like, I need that back.
But that property back.
That's what?
That's how much you think that's like a billion dollars worth of tech?
Vibranium?
Maybe more.
The Vibranium is priceless.
Yeah.
Like he's made a fool of vibranium.
Hey.
Sure he might be like.
Oh, wow.
We need that.
We need that vibranium back out.
Pallad.
Nah, you got to make a call, br.
The Wakandans would send themselves.
The Wakana.
They would not hire no white man to go do that job.
They would just send a coyet.
Yeah,
what are what are going to do against fucking?
Hey,
remember I dismantled Bucky's arm?
Like Kung Fu.
Hey, I would have to,
that would be the biggest pandering
to the black audience.
If a coyet,
and that was right.
I'll tell you something.
I'll tell you something.
I'll tell you something, though.
Those,
you can't underestimate the Wakanda.
Okay, no.
You can't.
They do better than the jobbers at the paladin.
They do.
They do better than the jobbers.
You can't underestimate the Wakandas.
First of all, the Wakandas are unpredictable.
Civil rights happen.
They didn't lift the finger.
So you just never know what they're going to do.
Tough.
That's what it comes to getting their shit back.
You never know what they're going to do.
You never know like, you know,
niggas of slavery.
The Wakandans are over there.
They didn't eat Bombay.
It's funny.
Like, it's like when they didn't eat bombay.
Like, they didn't do that.
It wasn't no E-Bombay in 1730.
You don't want Captain America asked him.
And all of a sudden, it's on you.
Shout out to the Wakans, man.
We would have to have a conversation, bro.
We never talked about this.
You know, the Wakane is in a movie theater watching 12 years of slave laughing.
They're like, couldn't be me.
Oh, dog.
See, I wanted to do a light.
I wanted to do a light one.
A light one.
A light one.
Laughing is crazy.
Or more.
You're roaring.
I want to do a light one.
a light one, and you just took it all the way.
Why would you take it there?
What?
They didn't help?
They's laughing like it was rush hour?
What's the hell?
Nikiel was looking at the rest of them like, hey, man, yeah, I'm doing other shit.
Y'all don't see what's going on around here?
Like, it's too much.
Like, you're tripping.
But they came around, you know, in 2018, you know.
Hey, better late than never, you know what I mean?
Hey, yes.
So shout out to, we love them.
We love the Wakandans.
They're our friends.
I like them for real.
I was very moved at the end when they decided to help.
Hey man, shout to Oakland, man.
They went to Oakland.
They built a whole set of man.
Hey, that is one of the most brilliant master strokes in film history.
You start that movie in Oakland.
You orient that movie and experience that the people that are at least here that are going
a movie because it was a worldwide movie and all of that stuff, you can get it.
but you connect right away in that movie the black American experience to all the majesty
that we believe is our birthright from Africa like in the first scene you get that the first
scene the movie tells you exactly what the tone of the film is going to be and exactly what
it's about how it's going to play if you were directing the movie would you have set the beginning
of the movie in banrooge yeah it would be like boozy that's what happened the
You know, the first thing you heard was too short.
The first thing you heard was too short.
Like, but as soon as he, as soon as the fucking thing pout over,
niggas would have been shooting at that bitch.
Bam, bam, bam, bomb, bomb.
No, I'm saying New Jersey Joe Butt is going to be.
Yeah, right.
What I'm saying is with a soundboard.
Hey, Jersey got some hard-ass rappers, bro.
Joe, Redman, Tretch.
Jersey got some hard ass rappers, bro.
Tretch, how are you like gnardy by nature?
I like, I like Redman.
Oh.
there you go, just
dirty.
If you're not bringing up
the shit I know about you, Steve.
Don't.
Okay.
Okay, so those are the people
that are on the board.
I feel like we can talk about
who's on the board
and maybe give it one more
bunch of episodes
before we really get into
who we think it is
because let's be honest,
it's none of those people.
What are the chances
that whoever hired Paladin
is a brand new character?
I think it's high.
I think it's high, yeah.
I think it's high.
Yeah.
They wouldn't be hiding them.
I'm guessing that this is going to be a late season reveal,
and so I'm going to guess that this is going to be somebody that we know.
Is there another AI we're missing?
Like somebody in the ether who's just like, I'm going to make a call for vision, whatever,
all my other homies over there.
Elena?
Elena?
Oh, small potatoes?
Small potatoes.
Small potatoes.
It doesn't look like big potato.
Yeah.
Oh, my vision to me is a big potato.
She would know pallid in, though.
Yeah, but she wouldn't hire a palatling.
Look at that guy, man.
He murdered that innocent woman
who was just owning a bar,
invited him to the Sunday roast.
I really thought he was going to go to the Sunday roast, man.
I thought he was going to go there and like
pretend to eat. It was going to be fun.
And then boom.
Shot her. Boat him. Right in the chest.
Tommy. So we see Tommy in this.
Tommy, who is of force speed.
We see his powers manifest themselves at certain times.
It seems like when he's stressed out. He can control them.
They'll come out.
Yeah, it's panic attacks.
Yeah, it's panic attacks and stuff like that.
When we first see him, he is,
is running a con, running a grift,
with his companion. What's her name again?
Is it Lisa?
Lisa? Okay, so Lisa.
And if she's, that's not her name, she'll be Lisa for right now.
So they're, they're running a con to Lisa.
And Lisa, and he is kind of aimless in the world.
His family that he was born to in the more traditional sense is very fractured.
Yeah.
Which leaves him feeling like he has no family.
And then all of a sudden, he gets,
infusion of consciousness
that is based
upon the offspring
that Wanda created while
in Westfield.
Like Tommy's soul? Because the same thing
happened with Billy. Yeah. This was
kind of the hardest thing for me to swallow
these first two episodes because I'm like,
okay, we got to have like, A, an introduction
to this character and then B, he's got to be
wildly disoriented
about his existence
and where he is in his life right now
while still being like, what, a
mid-20s, early-20s kid.
Like that was a lot in the, like, the first half of this second episode was like,
chewing on a lot for me.
It got there, but like this was, this was interesting.
I was fascinated with where his relation to vision is going to manifest now because
essentially his dad's going to be trying to rescue him for, like, he's going to try to
rescue his dad for like basically the next two episodes.
I mean, the reason I like, I like the introduction of Tommy a lot more than I like the
introduction of grown up Billy because I think it worked that he's way less plucky than
Billy.
I like the fact that like Tommy is just like, okay, like he's had a life, he's running cons.
And it's interesting that it's interesting that they paired Vision and Tommy together because
it's like two characters
that almost have
no bearing on what Wanda did
because Billy has a connection of magic
where Tommy and White Vision are kind of like
dog we were just kind of thrust into this
there's nothing we can really do in this world
it's the right pairing for the two of them
for sure I thought
like particularly like the scene on the bus
was like really good in getting a sense
of like who Tommy is right
obviously he's got the dickhead
dude with the glow stick whatever
Yeah, but him and Lisa, like, have a connection, right?
Not only, like, not because, you know, she's attractive.
He's trying to, you know, do his thing, but he's just like, yo, we're going through, like, a similar thing.
Like, my dad, or my mom died.
My dad wasn't gone.
I was in, out of foster homes.
Like, I don't know any other life than this.
She's like, be too, dog.
We're not trying to do this forever, though.
We got to go to, was a sane of whatever?
The senatorium?
Yeah, the sanatorium, right?
Where they shock you and you don't, you don't leave.
Right.
how do we make this happen?
Boom,
ECC the immediate chemistry between them
leads to them escaping,
doing all the grips or the grifting, whatever.
Like, it's like, oh, I kind of,
I kind of get this character.
He's just somebody who was like,
quick on their feet.
And it's just like,
doesn't want to do like the wrong thing,
but has to to survive, you know?
And I think that for a character like Tommy,
that works.
So I wasn't like, I didn't bump up against it at all.
I was just like, okay, this is kind of somebody
again who was,
don't underwater at one point
and like remember this entire life
that actually didn't exist
you would kind of feel a certain type of way too.
And that mirrors vision
and what he's going through pretty well as well.
Yeah, I mean, all of these characters are kind of like
trying to find who they actually are
and there's so much magic and sorcery
and all of this stuff involved in this.
These are all people who
how can I say this?
So Tommy
having to choose between a life that
sort of rejected him and a life that's calling to him is kind of the entire thing here.
He's almost been rejected in the life that he's been given, which is his family is not around.
He is all by himself and he is legitimately taking advantage of people to further himself.
That's his entire deal. His entire deal is concocting something, kind of like almost like a spell is what a
is, concocting something
so that
he can like
extract something from people.
Now there is something that is
calling to him to be a part
of it and it feels real but it's
foreign. Like it feels like
something that like is he
supposed to be. This feels like my dad.
Do I have a mother? But it's also
foreign and he's compelled
to it. But does that make it real?
Yeah. Like does that make that
thing real? Maybe
maybe not.
Going back to the ship of Theseus metaphor.
The ship of Theseus metaphor, which was brilliant, by the way.
Oh, yeah.
And then they're cooking.
Ultron being like, you don't even know why the ship.
They don't remember the story behind the ship.
Right.
Like, be the king.
It's not the point.
Whether or not the ship is real is not the point.
Yeah.
The point is the king and like the sacrifice and the connection.
And whether or not the ship is actually what it is.
I'm glad you brought that up because that's one of the little parts in the show that
grounds how we're supposed to look into this world.
And it's really smart of this show to like, it's actually weaving a lot of Wanda Vision and Ultron lore and other Avengers, like little nods and like tips of the hat to actually orient us in this story again.
Because like I keep hearing and seeing things that these characters say and do.
I'm like, oh yeah, that was an Ultron.
That was in Wanda Vision.
This has all of this connective tissue that at its best the MCU should be doing and is really, really good when it hits right.
It didn't feel like why I liked it is it didn't just feel like Easter eggs.
It felt story motivated.
Yes.
Every single time something was calling back to like Age of Ultron or Wonder Vision, it was deepening
the world in a way where it's like if you never saw this, any of that stuff, it wouldn't matter.
But if you have seen everything, you're like, oh, emotionally it is centering me.
Because like as much as I think Age of Ultron is a very fun movie, they left a lot.
lot on the table with Ultron as a character.
Yeah. And I think even with Vision a lot of times, I think Wanda was so centered in so many
of the stories like, what's Wanda doing? Oh, my God. She's going crazy. I like a series where
it's finding like, oh, Vision gets to breathe. We finally get to see it from his vantage point.
I mean, Vision is another character that kind of becomes a victim of the power scaling. Yeah.
Right? It's like the way Vision is used, like he's taken off the board right away in Infinity
War, along with the whole.
because let's be honest,
if you have them,
it's probably a problem.
You're like,
you're probably going to get fucked up,
right,
like if you have them.
So they take them right off the board
and they make vision
kind of like more of a,
not exactly a MacGuffin,
but more of a stationary object
that the plot is like around.
Right.
Not a MacGuffin.
Well, the we don't trade lives thing.
We don't trade lives things.
Can you fix vision?
Can you get the stone out?
Dumb thing.
The entire deal,
they make more vision.
more of they kind of treat him like a robot.
They treat him like a human robot.
They treat him, he's treated very humanely.
I don't want to like me.
No, they treat him like the hell.
But at the same time, they take vision off the board's vision very strong.
In this one right here, the fact that we don't know how strong vision is, we're not quite
sure what his capabilities are.
It gives, I feel like the writers in the show a little bit more latitude to go and do
some stuff.
And then if vision fucks up and fails, would be like, oh, okay, he's not the same guy.
Was it a mistake for them to, because I always thought it was.
is a mistaken age of Ultron for him to be able
to lift Mielnir. Because it just
puts him on a level where you can never
really like, to your point, it's a power scaling thing. I'm like,
if Vision can fucking lift Mielnir, it's not.
Well, I think of the hammer, that's more of like an emotional
and like, but still.
Because Cap can wield me on there, but like.
But they save that shit for Infinity War.
But I'm not if it's an end game. Yeah, but you're not
going to be like he can be Hulk in a fight. Like,
you don't believe that. Right. So.
Who? Cap.
Cap with Mielner. I can.
I'm not, I'm, I'm, I'm,
With Muley?
I'm just saying,
I don't know if Cap with the hammer
could be held.
That's going to be tough.
Without the hammer.
But just because he can lift the hammer,
it doesn't need it.
The hammer with the hammer,
Thanos fucked him up.
Yeah.
Thanos also gave Hulk the beats.
He did.
But at the same time,
what I'm saying is the hammer
will allow Cap to get closer.
I don't know if Cap with the hammer
could be Hulk.
I mean, I don't know that he could be.
I don't know.
Does Cap get the powers of Thor when he's hold in the hammer?
Yeah.
It doesn't seem like you.
Yeah, you just have the hammer.
Like, you can do the lightning.
could do that shit.
You can't have, you can't be super strong.
Hammer very intuitive.
He gets the hammer.
He raises it up to the sky and calls the lightning.
I mean, he's been watching Thor for a while.
He kind of knows a thing or two.
Also, the hammer is sentient.
So the hammer is helping him, by the way.
The hammer is got sentience to it.
By the way, we should say that the Lisa Molinari character is actually a
comic book character that I'm not familiar with.
Hey, coat of arms.
Where was her?
What was her first appearance?
Dark Rain, Young Avengers, number one.
Okay, wow.
Your agenda is never going on.
I'm not familiar with this character.
Not only is my agenda not going away.
The dude with the glow stick in the in the bus.
Yeah.
He's like,
these group of young oppressors.
And I'm like,
I see what y'all are doing.
Young masters,
they are called a super villain team appearing in American comic books,
published by Marvel Comics.
You can't fool me.
They are Meltor, Enchantress,
executioner, coat of arms,
Egghead, Black Knight.
Enchantress?
Black Knight?
Black Knight?
Black Knight?
We don't react.
All right, I'll be honest.
All right, people.
After Vision Quest, we wipe in the board.
We don't need no Young Avengers.
We don't need no.
And we never got them in the first.
We never got them in the first place.
I don't know Code of Arms.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I don't know.
I mean, I can't imagine.
And I read these Young Avengers.
Paladin and Code of Arms in the same show.
That's a thing.
I mean, you got to think, I mean, that's tough too.
Because you're probably right.
They're not going to do it.
They might do a little something in, um, uh, Secret Wars or whatever, battle world.
But you got, you have Kate.
You have, uh, Miss Marvel.
Yeah.
You have stature.
You have, uh, speed.
you have
Patriot,
you have Wiccan,
bro.
You got the whole team there, man.
You might as well.
This is the fuckiest shit ever.
Well,
they're the young Avengers,
but all of them are like,
25.
By the time,
young Avengers come out,
they're all going to be 30.
They're young.
They're just Avengers at that point.
Well, no,
they're still young compared to the other people.
I mean, yeah,
they got a retirement home over there.
You know what I mean?
So, technically.
Real quick,
Friday, Edith, Jarvis,
all of these characters,
we know these characters.
Yes.
We know them.
We know the way that they've been used.
We know their utility.
Jarvis is the first AI.
Jarvis is the first AI.
Edith?
No, Friday's the second.
Friday's the second.
Edith is the glasses from Spider-Man.
Right.
And then dummy and you are part of Tony's...
Is this in Tony's workspace?
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
How do we feel to see these characters embodied
and their personalities?
I thought it was a pretty awesome...
I mean, we knew that this was happening.
Yeah, I thought it was going to be the cornyest shit from the trailers,
and I quickly was on board.
Like, once they start communicating whatever,
I'm like, this is just so funny.
This is just so charming.
It really is.
I could see this being the entirety of the show,
but knowing that, like,
we're going to be back in the real world is really good.
But, like, this kind of, like, dysfunctional family of AIs
is really, really cute to me.
I just love the idea that we can see Ultron kind of being the,
like, the cynical.
again, grandpa of it all
and actually like, while still
manipulating them like actually interacting and maybe
cohabitating with this family. I would love
to see what Arlottran's arc is
in this show. Because to know that he can still be evil, but also
like at the behest of
Vision, interact and cooperate.
Could be very, very fascinating. Why would you keep
Ultron around? That's a real...
Because again, it's... Why would keep Alton around?
Vision.
I know.
I know, but like-
Guys, we all have fathers.
This is dad.
Come on.
I'm not, I'm not, I just, I just think like, I don't mean like actually, but I mean like,
I feel like he serves a utilitarian purpose in the sense of vision knows like you kind of, like
to your point earlier, you kind of do need a demon on your side.
Well, I don't know.
I could- You need a predator.
But you need a predator.
It could be also that vision is still searching for his purpose.
Right.
And his father, who created him, had a purpose in mind.
So there is probably not necessarily answers, but comfort in the fact that he was designed by someone with some sort of purpose.
He can't kill him because if he kills him, it would almost be like killing the idea that he should exist.
So he wants to extract as much knowledge and connection from him as he can for as long as he can.
for as long as he can
till the situation becomes untenable
or it bites him in the ass,
which it certainly will.
Because the thing that...
It always does.
Yeah.
Because the thing about Ultron
is that he has such a broad knowledge
of humanity that it turned him evil and cynical
in like three minutes.
To want to like extract the entirety of the human race
from existence.
But I think Vision sees the like good in knowing
that much about humanity
in order to learn about himself.
And that cynicism is part,
of being human and being like, you know, a fully realized person.
He wants to only take parts of it and like prove to Ultron that it's worth combating
to know that there's, that there is grace in their failings, that there is things that
that can be.
And like to know that they still resume that conversation from the end of Ultron is brilliant
to me.
Before we get out of here, I've been focusing on this for the last like minute.
The fact that you came in here with a cup that says vanilla gorilla is crazy.
Okay, that was the name of the coffee place.
Vanilla Gorillies. White Vision. Yeah, white vision.
Shout a McGilla.
Yeah, no, but don't, don't shout them out.
Don't tell nobody where that, don't tell nobody with the, we're not shouting them out.
Don't shout out. Don't shout, I hit him, Barbara.
Don't shout. Don't tell. By the way, we haven't, we having a, a meeting greet, or we had a meeting.
We had a meeting greet. We had a meeting greet. And we shouldn't have told you guys where it was.
Y'all just got to find that bitch.
Yeah, vibes.
You got to find that bitch.
We shout out these guys.
You got a nice business.
It came in through us in a pitch.
We're doing good.
I try to tell people where to come find him
so they can come and use the facilities.
And like, no.
Get the hell out of here.
Don't tell you meant to be kept.
Get the hell out of here.
I want to say something real quick.
I just want to ask one question before we get out of here.
We've run out of pot.
So the showrunner here is a guy by the name of Terry Matalas.
Okay.
All right.
So the shows that he's run so far are the 12 Monkeys show.
Good show.
He's, I've never seen it.
McGiver, Star Trek, Picard, which was good.
The last season was good.
Okay.
Yeah, I enjoyed it when I watched it.
I didn't watch a whole lot of it, but I enjoyed it when I watched it.
And Vision Quest is now the show that he's running.
Actually, the guy who plays Paladin was on Picard.
He's back in this show, so there seems to be some synergy there.
he's written on Star Trek Enterprise,
Teranova, Nikita,
so he's a veteran,
but this is his first foray,
at least from his filmography
that I can see right here,
into the superhero languages.
He's not one of the guys
that's died in the wool
as a superhero guy,
bringing him back, whatever, whatever.
What does that tell you about
what they want to do with this show?
I mean, if you get a guy that's done
Star Trek and 12 monkeys,
he's definitely indecisive.
He's definitely into the things and structures that make, you know, some of the best superhero things that we've seen.
Like, those are in that DNA.
I can see Star Trek in this.
I can see the sort of like moral back and forth about technology and like the human nature of it all in this show.
And I think that that's pretty well executed here.
I think they got a good guy here.
To me, we'll see where the show ends up.
But I think the reason that I'm not ready to say.
say superhero shows are back, but they're showing a little bit more life because they're operating
more like TV shows now, where this felt like a TV show in the best way possible, where it's like,
okay, you guys have a hook, you guys have characters that I'm invested in. This is in the same way
that Wanda Vision is, this reminded me of a sitcom. There's action and everything, but I'm like,
oh, this is a family that I want. Same thing with Agatha all along. These are families that, like,
you want to invest time in. And I think maybe Marvel, it took them a while.
to figure out how to get here because they've done it.
But Loki to me was the same way.
It's a family that you want to spend time with in actors that even when shit gets crazy and fantastical,
there's a level of groundedness to the whole thing where I'm just like, oh shit, I want to spend 45 minutes with you show.
And it looks like we're going to get Tommy Vision and Ultron who like is like he's like he does.
He's not actually there, but Vision can, like, see him there, like, as James Spader,
just running around doing stuff for, like, the next couple episodes.
So it's exciting.
Well, Wanda show up in this.
I don't know.
I don't think of stuff.
No, no shot.
Maybe through, through archival footage.
Well, she's already been in.
Well, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, she's already been in.
Where do you guys think just after two episodes this will net in the trilogy?
Like, right now, I want to let it play out, but right now I'm liking this.
at least as much.
I've liked all three of, all two of them,
but three of them now that I'm watching this.
But right now it says I'm at least as intrigued by this as I was with Agatha all along.
The level of intrigue that I had for Wanda Vision is going to be tough for any.
I don't know if we can recreate that.
That was just like that time.
But I think what I'm liking about this show is more so that I'm way more invested in vision as a character that I was Agatha.
Just because I'm like, I have more of an emotional connection
because he was a fucking Avenger.
Are you going to finish a vision quest?
Agatha along?
You didn't finish Agatha along, but are you going to finish vision quest?
Hey, why do we got to bring up all shit?
It's weird.
What's you on?
What's your own?
What are you bringing up?
Is it like, you're bringing up old shit.
Like, by the way, there's another show that the showrunner worked on,
Night Flyers, which made me think of the Night Flyer.
which is, was a Stephen King short story
that I read back in the day.
Oh.
That's one of the most freaking terrifying things
I've ever read before my life.
And what is this story?
It's about a fucking vampire.
Right.
That this reporter knew
that this guy was a vampire
and he was doing a story on it
because this guy was a vampire
going around killing people.
Kind of like interview with a vampire?
But this was, yeah,
but this was like the guy,
he knew that this guy was a vampire.
And the dude was,
fucking with him. He would do fucked up shit to him. He would like kill people and like lead a
body where he could find. He was fucking he was fucking. So he knew that a reporter was on his tail.
He fly behind him, ripped the car, ripped the fucking hood off his car and do crazy. He knew that
the guy was like on his tail or whatever. And it was just like, I read it back in the day.
It was just like, fuck. Is his peak cocaine, Stephen King? It could be. Probably. But like 80s and then
yeah. That mind didn't need no coke. That that mind is something different, bro. That he, he,
King's insane. Yeah, that mind is something crazy,
bro. I don't even know. I don't even know.
Maybe he's tapped into the dark dimension
or something, shit like that. I haven't read the knife while I don't know.
I can't remember. That probably is not even what happened in it.
Okay. Now, it's over.
No more podcast.
We're good. We're flying down
Vision Quest Highway.
It's good stuff. It's fun.
I'm reactivated. Like, I'm excited
for fucking Vision Quest. This is fun.
Come on.
Brother, we're doing it. Okay, guys.
Got to get the fuck out of here.
Vision Quest. We're keeping it.
up. We've got questions. Maybe the show will have answers. A great start. The question for these
Marvel shows is will they be able to maintain through the middle of the show to the end of the show?
That's the, that's always, yeah. They start, they start off promising, but I think they're going to
land you. They're going to land upon. I am hopeful to it because there's a lot, a lot here.
Love the positive. Okay. On Thursday, the House of R will come back and give you their Vision,
Quest, Deep Dive coverage on Friday and Sunday, Ben gives you back-to-back,
episodes on Castlevania, Belmont's Curse featuring Simon Belmont.
The Game Master.
Who was in Captain in the Game Master.
Now, Captain in the Game Master had a Nintendo controller on his belt.
Uh-huh.
So he had the game controller in the truck.
He had the, so he had the blaster, right?
He had the blaster that came with the Nintendo.
Yeah, on his hit.
The blaster.
But he also had the controller on his belt.
So if you shot or threw something that captain in the game master, he would hit the directional pad and he would move to the side real fast.
So were kids bringing the duck hunting guns to school?
I don't know that the show ever became like that.
We had some, we had legitimately a cartoon where it was a Mr. T cartoon.
Yeah.
But Mr. T was helping out a bunch of kids who could do gymnastics.
Yeah.
Like.
And they were like fighting facts.
Yeah.
The kids, that's some real shit.
No, no, no, no, no.
There was a cartoon where Mr. T was the leader of a gang of kids who could do gymnastics
and they used gymnastics to fight crime.
That was the thing.
Is he bad man?
That was the cartoon guy.
That's what it was.
Okay.
John Candy had a cartoon at a summer camp.
That was the best era for cartoons, they said.
We was making cartoons.
And Captain in the Game Master used Nintendo.
powers to fight in the Nintendo world and like,
this is what you and Seth Green were watching back then?
Captain in the game master, bro.
That's crazy.
It's like y'all, y'all didn't miss the T.
Take them kids to the Olympics.
Who?
They did.
They were in the Olympics.
They were.
They were doing it on the side.
Wait, the Olympics is your side hustle.
Just real quick, before we go.
Real quick, before we go.
Real quick.

Mother Brain.
Yep.
Mother Brain was the villain.
And it was Simon Belmont, Mega Man, and Kid Icarus with the wings.
Okay.
There were all the people that was fucking with him.
Right.
That bitch had three seasons, 34.
Wow.
34 episodes.
That's a lot for something.
That's a good run.
Like one season.
But like, look, Simon Belmont, look, I tell you all these people.
All these people in the goddamn.
King Hippo was in there.
It's like all the villain, Donkey Kong.
Donkey Kong?
It was a show.
I used to like that bitch.
It came on 1989 to 1991.
So from when I was 9 to 11,
Captain in the Game Master.
The Golden Era.
Yeah, it's fun.
Mr. T.
Like, gymnastics, I'm not making it up.
I'm not saying you're making it up.
I'm just saying that's...
Chuck's done.
I hope we were talking about fucking Mr. T and gymnastics, dog.
Come on.
All right, cool.
Cousinia, Belmont's Curse, and the new streetfire movie.
