The Rosary in a Year (with Fr. Mark-Mary Ames) - Day 236: The Crucifixion and the Resurrection
Episode Date: August 24, 2025We pray with the fifth Sorrowful Mystery, the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus, and the first Glorious Mystery, his Resurrection. At the Cross, we witness Christ’s total self-gift, his mercy toward th...e repentant thief, and the sorrow of Mary who remains faithfully at His side. Then we move to the empty tomb, where light bursts from darkness and Jesus, risen and still bearing his wounds, offers hope that God is working for good even through suffering. These mysteries invite us to deeper trust in Jesus’ victory over death. Today’s focus is the mysteries of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection and we will be praying two decades of the Rosary. forward slash support today we'll be praying with the fifth sorrowful mystery the crucifixion
and death of our lord and the first glorious mystery his resurrection as we pray with the fifth
sorrowful mystery the crucifixion and death of our lord we see jesus crucified nails driven through
his hands and feet.
We encounter the cost of our salvation.
We hear Jesus' words to his father.
Father, forgive them.
We see Jesus offering salvation in a place in paradise to the repentant thief.
And we behold our sorrowful mother at the foot of the cross.
beholding her son and being the first to contemplate and receive the fullness of this manifestation
and expression of the love of God in the crucifixion and death of Jesus, her beloved son.
as we pray with the first glorious mystery of the resurrection we encounter an empty tomb the stone
rolled away the great news being proclaimed by the angel and we see jesus risen from the dead
glorified still carrying in his body though these glorified wounds of his passion
revealing himself to the disciples and the apostles,
and particularly that beautiful moment where he comes to Thomas.
And he says, Thomas, come, come and place your hand in my wounds.
Do not be unbelieving, but believe.
And in the resurrection, we call to mind this ultimate source of our hope
that God who brought this ultimate victory out of the passion
can also bring about ultimate victory in all the varieties of sufferings,
and injustices and privations
that we are experiencing if we continue to journey
in prayer and hope and trust and charity with our Lord.
The resurrection is this reminder
that God truly is at work for the good in all things
for those who love him.
So let's take a moment
and begin in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
