today we will be praying the sorrowful mysteries
let us begin in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen
i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth
and in jesus christ his only son our lord who is conceived by the holy spirit born in the
virgin mary suffered under pontchipaya was crucified die and was buried
he ascended to hell on the third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.

of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the
beginning is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen. The first soft mystery is the agony
in the garden. All of salvation history points
to Jesus, like the law, the prophets. It all points to and is fulfilled in Jesus.
In the garden, we see Jesus taking upon himself like all of sin and sinful humanity.
And he reveals to us himself as the fulfillment right of that Old Testament scapego. He reveals
himself to us as the Lamb of God
who takes away the sins of the
world as the suffering servant
prophesied in the
book of the prophet Isaiah
we just
take a moment to behold him
the one again who all
of salvation history is pointed to
in this moment
where he freely
takes upon himself
all of our sins
let us adore him
let us remain with him
let us come to him with our own contrition
and sorrow
and gratitude
for the gift of the shedding of his blood
for the salvation of our sins
our father who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven
give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen

glory be to the father and to the sun and to the holy spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end amen
oh my jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven especially in the
those in most need of thy mercy.
The second sorrowful mystery is the scourging at the pillar.
In Matthew 26, verse 28, he says, this is my blood poured out for you.
And I understand it.
There can always kind of be like an experience of it being a little bit of an abstraction
or kind of for everybody and so it and somehow it can feel less for me.
so our prayer today is really going to be making a movement towards experiencing this truth
these words are the Lord's passion being like specifically for you so we'll place ourselves
in this scene where Jesus is being scourged experience his eyes meeting yours and through what
he undergoes we can hear these words spoken right this is my blood poured out for you specifically
like this is my body given for you specifically let us look upon him and let us receive this gift
to look upon him and see him being scourged at the pillar for you our father who art in heaven
hallow be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen hail mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb jesus

Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
are thou among women and blessed it is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord
is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary,
Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be, world without end, amen.
Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins.
save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy
the third sorrowful mystery is the crowning with thorns st thomas aquinas in his writing
meditating on the passion wrote instead of a crown of glory they impose on him a crown of indignity
and let's be an invitation for us to a moment of repentance and contrition.
We look back on all of the times we have crowned him with a crown of dignity through our sins
and kind of to ourselves and to him through not living according to our own dignity as Christians.
So we recognize and we repent of all the times that we have crowned him with indignity and ourselves
likewise.
And then we make a movement
to not crown him with thorns
but to crown him with glory.
To honor him, to bless him,
to adore him.
So as we pray this decade,
maybe we begin with
kind of the spirit of contrition
and make a movement
to a spirit of adoration
and praise.
Our father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be.
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. Amen. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.

Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.
Now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end, amen.
Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
the fourth sorrowful mystery is the carrying of the cross
Peter Brugel's painting
the procession to Calvary
it's filled with Roman soldiers
right and as we know in the gospel account
there are a wide variety of reactions from the soldiers
during Christ's passion
they mock him they spit upon him
they gamble for his garments
but one of the soldiers
makes like a really profound act of faith,
saying, truly, this was the son of God.
And I kind of shared an account during this episode
about how we do our,
the friars do a good Friday procession,
starting in Harlem going to the South Bronx.
And there's a whole wide variety of responses
and reactions from the different people there.
Indifference, frustration, occasional insults,
certainly impatience,
but also profound faith,
even tears.
right of gratitude to the Lord today as we pray let's kind of place ourselves amidst the
procession of our Lord as he carries this cross and let's be honest about like how we feel
how we respond but also like let's pray for that grace to like the centurion to really
recognize our Lord to ourselves be moved to confessing like truly truly this is the son of God
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen.
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins.
save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need
of thy mercy the fifth sorrowful mystery is the crucifixion we'll go and take our direction here
from st. Alphonseus Ligori he talked about a new kind of martyrdom and as we behold
Jesus upon the cross there before the cross stands Mary
like his mother.
And this is what St. Alphanus wrote.
Consider her at the foot of the cross.
Then see if there can be sorrow like unto her sorrow.
And is there more moving, hauntingly beautiful, dignified, profound example of faith
than we see in Mary, keeping vigil at the foot of the cross,
experiencing completely vulnerable to this sword prophesied back in the temple,
this sword piercing her own heart, and this new type of martyrdom,
the martyrdom of a mother watching her son die for our sins.
So as we pray this mystery, we behold our mother beholding her son.
Let ourselves beheld here.
by the beauty and profundity of this moment.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallow be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, amen.
