The Rosary in a Year (with Fr. Mark-Mary Ames) - Day 352: The Luminous Mysteries
Episode Date: December 18, 2025Fr. Mark-Mary shares insights on the Luminous Mysteries. In the Baptism of Jesus, he reminds us that the light of Christ shines even in the shadow of the cross, and at the Wedding at Cana, we see Mary... noticing our needs and interceding with tender care. He meditates on Jesus’ proclamation of the Kingdom and His call to a deeper, more generous love, and on the Transfiguration as the moment when Christ reveals His radiant divinity. Finally, we are called to marvel at the “creativity of love” in the Eucharist, where Jesus remains with us in every place and circumstance. Today’s focus is the Luminous Mysteries, and we’ll be praying the full Rosary. For the complete prayer plan, visit https://ascensionpress.com/riy.

Today, we will be praying the luminous mysteries,
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
The first luminous mystery is the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.
Jesus baptism is a mystery of profound joy
but if you recall it there's a fresco we looked at of Jesus baptism
which reveals that the light of Christ is never far from the shadow of the cross
his mission will lead him to his passion
but in the life death and resurrection of Jesus like what conquers what is victorious
what is permanent is the light the light of Christ
even here and even now.
As we pray, let us place ourselves at the shores of the Jordan.
Let us see the heavens rent, the dove, descend, the Father proclaim.
But let's keep our eyes at Jesus, as in this moment.
He receives the affirmation of the Father.
And he says yes to the Father and his plan,
which will take him to the cross,
but through the cross,
to the resurrection our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen

World without end amen
O my Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell
And lead all souls to heaven
Especially those in most need of thy mercy
Second Loomis mystery is the wedding at Cana
Here at the wedding
Feast of Cana right Mary is the first
to notice the wine has run out.
She notices their need, and she brings it to the attention of Jesus.
And there's really such a beautiful parallel to her intercession,
and then the love that Jesus and Mary both have for us.
Mary and Jesus, they see us, they see you,
they're concerned about you, they're invested in you and your goodness.
And already now, like already now they see your need and they are responding to it.
let us be open to God's grace
let's trust in his ability to turn water and to wine
but even more like let's find hope and consolation and comfort
in the love and the investment and the care that both Jesus and Mary have
for you and for me
our father who art in heaven
hallow be thy name
thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

world without end. Amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell
and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
The third, Lemus mystery is the proclamation of the kingdom and the call
to conversion, St. Augustine, he wrote that Jesus gave the lesser precepts to a people
as yet required to be bound by fear and gave the greater ones to a people whom it had now
become suitable to set free by love. What's Jesus doing, right, in the proclamation of the
kingdom? In the proclamation of a kingdom, there's a new kingdom that has a new law and has new
teachings. But also, he's raising the bar. He's calling us to something higher. He's calling us to a new
law, providing for us, like, a new grace, right? And calling us, like, to love, to love as he has loved us.
As we pray, let us ask for the grace, if you will, to be faithful, right? Citizens of this
kingdom, this kingdom of love. Let us receive the fullness of grace, the fullness of love that
Jesus has shown to us, and let us respond by loving others as he has first loved us.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

The Fourth Luminous Mystery is the Transfiguration
There is a really beautiful stained glass window in a vote if
church in Vienna, Austria.
And in the Stinglass, it's depicting the Transfiguration.
I think it is really appropriate that the Transfiguration is depicted in stained glass
because this reveals the theological reality of God being the light of the world.
Here in the Transfiguration, the mystery of light par excellence with the Transfiguration.
John Paul the second called it, the mystery of light par excellence.
For a brief moment in time, Jesus, if we will, suspends the veiling of his divine luminosity.
through his sacred humanity
and we see the light that illuminates
and that gives us meaning.
Like Peter James and John today,
let's place ourselves before our transfigured Lord,
let us be bathed in his lights
and let us hear him speak
his promise to us
that as the sun beautifies
and glorifies thing glass.
So will he beautify and glorify you
by giving you a share in his own divine life?
our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven,
especially those in most need of thy mercy.
The fifth limitous mystery is the institution of the Eucharist.
When you love someone, you will create a way to be with them.
You may remember the concept of the creativity of love, right?
you create a way to be with him.
And Jesus does just that at the institution of the Eucharist
by remaining with us so humbly in the Most Holy Eucharist,
he's able to get to the ones he loves everywhere and anywhere.
The kingdom of God throughout history has continued to break into basically everywhere
through the Most Holy Mass and the Most Holy Eucharist.
Through this most holy sacrament,
Jesus has been truly present.
The Eucharist has been in prisons and palaces,
and with the homebound and those in far-to-reach like villages.
Today, let us give thanks for the creativity of love,
Jesus who is truly present in each tabernacle in all of the Catholic churches, right?
And can we be open to responding with the creativity of our own love?
How can we, particularly in our daily lives and schedules, create space to go and to be with him
and to adore him and to love him and to worship him
in the most holy sacrament of the altar.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallow be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
