The Rosary in a Year (with Fr. Mark-Mary Ames) - Day 364: The Sorrowful Mysteries
Episode Date: December 30, 2025We are called to remain close to Jesus in moments of sorrow, learning from His choice to meet suffering with trust in the Father rather than isolation. Fr. Mark-Mary reflects on the Passion as a costl...y gift of love, revealing how deeply Christ desires to save and remain with us. Through perseverance in prayer, we are reminded that Jesus never stops seeking us, even when the road is heavy. At the foot of the Cross, we receive Mary as our Mother, finding consolation in her faithful and tender care. Today’s focus is the Sorrowful Mysteries, and we’ll be praying the full Rosary. Today we will be praying
the sorrowful mysteries.
Let us begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontchus Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to hell.
On the third day, he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic
church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and in life everlasting
amen for our holy father's health and intentions our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen.
For an increase in the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God. Pray for us sinners. Now and at the hour of our
death, amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning
is now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. The first powerful mystery is the agony in the
garden as with really all of Jesus's life here in the agony in the garden we see a model
of Christian living in this moment of sorrow sorrow even to death
Jesus doesn't just try and do it all by himself is that he comes to the father expressing
his heart to him and trusting to him if there's anything we're having sorrow in or
difficulty in like let's not let it lead us to isolation
to a place trying to do it all by ourselves.
But first and foremost,
can we bring it to our Father as Jesus does?
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell,
and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
The second sorrowful mystery is the scourging at the pillar.
In Jesus being scourged the pillar,
there is certainly a provocation
to see the reality of sin
there's also an invitation
to receive
this most precious of gifts
this most costly of gifts
Jesus and his passion
and his scourging is the sure sign
of his love for us
he underwent such evil
because of love of his father
and because he sees something good in us
something that he desires to save
something that he desires to be with for eternity
Jesus help us to receive this gift
the sure sign of your love for us
the sure sign of our value
in your eyes
our father who art in heaven
hallow be thy name
thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen

the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven.
especially those in most need of thy mercy.
The third sorrowful mystery is the crowning with thorns.
I'll invite you to call to mind to your imagination.
If you can, Jesus crowned with thorns.
You can re-look at one of the paintings we use,
perhaps sturdy in your memory,
or use your imagination we see Jesus.
Crowned with thorns.
with a purple
a robe wrapped around him mockingly
a reed in his hand
and we hear the mocking
we see the spitting
and it's a scene
rightly we want to flee from
it's just so ugly
so dark
what I'll invite you to kneel
before our Lord crowned with
thorns to seek his eyes and to whisper to him to mouth to him words that the rest of the
crowd won't be able to hear they won't be able to see you are my king you are my king you are my king you are a lord I love you
thank you jesus you are my king you are my lord i love you thank you jesus our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not in

holy spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end amen
o my jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven
especially those in most need of thy mercy the fourth sorrowful mystery is the carrying of the cross
A theme we've touched on really repeatedly through the journey here has been this admonition
or this invitation, more than an invitation, the necessity of praying with perseverance,
seeking the Lord with perseverance.
It's been a theme with Our Lady and the Fifth Joyful Mystery and the presentation with
Simeon and Anna, Pentecost, this waiting, this patience, persevering in prayer.
and i think it's important to always frame our call like as it is a response to what jesus has already done how he has first loved us
and in the fourth sorrowful mystery we see jesus arrested mocked scourged crowned now carrying his cross
step by step under the burden of this heavy cross
seeking you
seeking me
look how Jesus
perseveres and choosing us
and we in our prayer we have the promise
and the surety that the Father will come
he will keep his promises he will reveal himself jesus perseveres and seeking all souls some of whom may not receive the gift of what he's doing yet
look at him carry his cross step by belabored step he may fall but he gets up
behold behold how your lord and god has pursued you behold how your lord and god has fought for you
our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

world without end, amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell,
and lead all souls to heaven.
especially those in most need of thy mercy.
The fifth sorrowful mystery is the crucifixion.
Jesus crucified on the cross.
Looks down, beholds his mother.
And beholds his beloved disciple.
And in beholding John here,
I think we can safely say he sees all of us.
He sees you right now.
And he looks at Mary and says,
Woman, behold your son.
He says, son, behold your mother.
And I really believe that we've always kind of read this lens
of this moment being a time for us to take Mary
to our home and for Mary to take us into her care and these are Jesus's words on the cross
moments before he breathes his last let us take Mary into our home let us love her
and honor her in obedience to Jesus's
desire expressed on the cross here.
And then we may, we find the most profound of consolations
and comforts and even joys.
And that Mary has taken it upon herself to love us and to care for us
as her own sons and daughters.
Our father, who art in heaven, hallow be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
