Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Science of Flipping Podcast. I'm your host, Justin Colby. Alright guys, in this video you are going to learn how to accelerate to achieve your goals faster. Anyone can do it. It's very simple stay tuned all right so this video is all about how to get to your goals faster there's a very very simple process that i use that you need to be using in your business as well it will absolutely change the game for you if you can remain focused and actually do what i'm going to suggest in the video you're going to want to watch this entire video as i'm going to tell you step by step what I'm going to suggest in the video. You're gonna wanna watch this entire video as I'm gonna tell you step-by-step what to do,
Starting point is 00:00:49 how to focus on it, and how you can implement it so that you can go out and achieve your goals in a much smaller amount of time. So let me take a step back. I have been studying time blocking, time management for years now because I am a yellow personality, which means I am a creative,
Starting point is 00:01:06 I'm a visionary, and I'm a get shit started but not follow through type of guy. Some of you guys might be able to resonate with that. And I realized I wanted to achieve my goals faster. And part of that has to do with me following through with what I got started. Now, the other part of this is I own multiple businesses. And so my time is really stretched thin. Some of you guys can absolutely agree with that. Some of you guys are an entrepreneur on the part-time and you are actually still working your nine to five job full-time on top of which you are married, on top of which you have kids, on top of which you have extended family and friends, and oh my God, how do we fit this all in? I know many of you guys are going to start to connect with that as well.
Starting point is 00:01:54 So here's the idea. First and foremost, make sure you have a planner. I don't care what planner. There's the fully focused planner. There's the Stephen Covey highly effective planner. There's the fully focused planner. There's the Stephen Covey highly effective planner. There is the passion planner. There's so many planners out there. Make sure you have a planner, but let me walk you through exactly how to utilize your time and then make sure that it's written out in your planner. So first and foremost, you need to make sure that you understand two simple concepts.
Starting point is 00:02:33 So the concepts are this. There's one, which would be called an RGA, which is a revenue generating activity. These are things that you actually do personally that is going to generate revenue for your company. Then there is another, which is what has been told to me, this is not my term, but rocking chair activity. Now, you guys could probably visualize what the rocking chair activity is, right? You're rocking back and forth, you're doing a bunch of stuff, you're moving, but you're actually not getting anywhere. That's the rocking chair activity. Revenue generating activities will be things that you can literally connect revenue to if you do those activities consistently. So guess what is not a revenue generating activity? Email. For those of you that are addicted to email, totally get it. I totally understand.
Starting point is 00:03:29 But what I will encourage you, the number one tip I'm going to give as a moment in time, if you're nothing else, is do not check your email first thing in the morning. That should not be the first thing you're doing because here's the concept about email. You are working on someone else's time. You are working on someone else's issue you are working on someone else's issue it is not something that is going to generate revenue and in most cases most cases you will be able to answer that email and get to that activity or project later on in your day instead of focusing on it first thing when you get in the office because here's what happens. You turn into fireman or firewoman and you start dealing with other people's issues
Starting point is 00:04:12 and you take them on as yourself and it spins your day out. So the first thing you have to understand is do not answer your emails first thing in the morning. Now let me break out the entire process that I focus on for myself. I want you to make it your own and implement it in your day. And then you can actually use these planners I talked about to actually schedule that out in your day on what those activities need to be. So first and foremost, I take the first two plus hours of my morning focusing on my own personal development. So what does that mean? So I tend to wake up either at 5.45 in the morning or six. I'm always incrementally trying to decrease or increase how early I wake up,
Starting point is 00:04:59 right? So at some point I want to be at 5.30, 5.15, and 5 a.m. That's my ultimate goal here, right? And so right now I'm not there. So right now my alarm is set for roughly 6 a.m. And I'm actually, because I'm so accustomed to it, I actually personally am waking up at 5.45. And that gives me an extra 15 minutes. So starting very shortly, I'm going to set my alarm for 5.45 and hopefully I start personally waking up.
Starting point is 00:05:24 My internal alarm clock will start waking up around 530 and so on and so on. Now I get it. Not everyone's an early morning person. People like to stay up late. I'm just telling you what works for me. You can make it work for yourself. I like to get roughly about seven hours of sleep. If I'm waking up, let's just make numbers easy.
Starting point is 00:05:44 If I'm waking up at six, that means I need to be asleep by seven hours of sleep. So if I'm waking up, let's just make numbers easy. If I'm waking up at six, that means I need to be asleep by 11 PM. Asleep. Not getting into bed, not in bed reading, asleep. So let's just use that as the barometer of how much sleep I personally need. So now I spend first two hours of my day on self-development. Now, what does this mean? First of all, I get my coffee right out the gates. I'm a coffee guy. It's my thing. I get coffee right out of the gates.
Starting point is 00:06:13 The other several things that fit into these two hours, I always work out in the morning. I'm a morning worker outer, if you will. And then I always want to make sure that whatever self-development I'm doing, whether it be reading, whether it be reading, whether it be a podcast, whether it be training videos, whether it be books, whatever that component is, meditation, I do it in the morning. That way it is completely done. I don't have to personally do anything that leaves me unfulfilled if I don't get around to it.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And so for many of you guys, you might have a coaching program you're following. Maybe you're following my coaching program. Maybe there's digital trainings you need to be watching. That kind of stuff I put in at the front end of my two hours of self-development. It's personal and it is business related. It is not simply personal, right? And I do both, right? So between the books and the podcasts, the meditation, the working out, it is a combination of the things that I need to get done that I feel good for that is going to benefit
Starting point is 00:07:17 me and my businesses. I get that done in the first two hours of the day. So that brings me to 8am in the morning. I take the next five hours. Okay. It's a lot of hours, but the next five hours, I am only focusing on revenue generating activities, period. Okay. Now, what would that be for you? I cannot tell you. Things that obviously move my needle are making sure we're contracting deals, making sure I'm bringing on new coaching clients, and making sure the sales of those deals to other buyers is actually performing. And so I spend these five hours focusing on the things that drive me revenue, bringing more coaching clients,
Starting point is 00:08:05 getting more deals. Those are the two concepts or two verticals that drive revenue for me, right? And so I focus on doing those for five hours a day. Once I'm done focusing on doing those five, I am now getting lunch. Now you can reduce some of those hours. Maybe you only need two hours to focus on revenue generating activities. Maybe it's three. Adjust your schedule. If you are working full time,
Starting point is 00:08:33 obviously you have to adjust this training to your schedule. Then I eat. Here's the key to eating. Eat before you're hungry. Don't wait for lunch before you eat. Make sure you have a bag of almonds or peanuts or cashews or a protein bar. I don't care what it is. Make sure you eat a little something before you're hungry. It'll keep up your energy. After I eat, I then go
Starting point is 00:08:56 into calls and emails. So now I'm all the way into the early afternoon, roughly one o'clock my time, to start getting into calls and emails that I have to get to. Now, I spend three hours handling calls and emails. These are typically not revenue-generating activities, but they're absolutely must-get-dones and probably have some time sensitivity, so I have to get to them each and every day. The last three hours is going to be dedicated to non-revenue generating activities, whether that's creating PowerPoints, maybe it's creating and developing and strategizing some of the coaching trainings that I do. You name it, that's where those activities get done at the end of the day because they're not generated to any revenue.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Very rarely do they have a strong time sensitivity, meaning I don't need to get it done by today or maybe even tomorrow. I'm usually handling it several days in advance so I don't have that stress of a time sensitivity on that one activity. Again, if you really counted the hours in a day that I am working, right? Essentially, I am working from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Now, that is my choice. I genuinely love what I do. I love helping my coaching clients. I love real estate and doing deals. I'm a complete deal junkie. I'm really in my wheelhouse in the life that I've created. So I enjoy those hours. It is something that I actively love to do. Now, here's the thing. When I shut it off at 7pm, I shut it off to go spend time with my wife and family. And that's what I do. And then I don't
Starting point is 00:10:40 turn it back on until in the morning. The thing that I see more often than not is entrepreneurs continue to answer emails or work text messages late into the evening. It doesn't allow them to have any separation at all with their work and life. And while I am a firm believer there is no work life and personal life, I do believe they meld. I do believe there is a level of separation of when you should disconnect from one and or the other so you can have a healthy personal life as well. The key here is making sure all of your personal individual stuff to better yourself and better your businesses in the morning. And then at the end of your day, 7 p.m., when you cut it off, you focus on your wife, your loved ones, your family,
Starting point is 00:11:30 because then that 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. can just be dialed in. You don't feel guilty that you're not doing something you should have done, like go to the gym, and you've handled everything. So that removes all guilt and all stress of not getting the things done. The challenge I even find within myself is making sure when I'm blocking that time for let's just say revenue generating activities
Starting point is 00:11:58 that I focus on generating revenue, okay? I need to be a surgeon at that point. Why do you say that? And no, I'm not not in the medical field i'm in the real estate field is because surgeons don't bring their phones and laptops and ipads into the surgery room they leave it all outside so they can be extremely focused you need to be a surgeon when you're talking about revenue generating activities. You literally need to put everything else away. Anything that could distract you, including email, needs to go away. And your only simple function is to generate revenue through your activities.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Period. If you can get good at that, and I still am challenged at it as i'm doing this video for you. I know Every day there's times I break Pattern and I have to recognize it meaning I will be focused on the revenue generating activity something happens Someone walks in my office, whatever the case may be it breaks me out of that pattern Here's the thing to that guys Studies have shown it takes roughly 30 minutes from when you stop doing an activity and get sidetracked to do
Starting point is 00:13:14 something else, pay attention, lift your attention off that activity for you to get going back on that activity. If that happens to you four times, you have just wasted two hours of your day. Two hours, gone. And people are wondering why they are not actually being as productive as what they think they should be. In large part, it's because they allow those breaks in your activity. Breaks meaning they get sidetracked. Someone knocks on their door. A phone rings. A Facebook message pops up. And they go deal with that.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Handle that. Become a firefighter. And now they have to go back to get back to task. And now it takes them 30 minutes to get back high functioning onto that task. You wasted two hours of your day, and your day is only made up of so many hours. So this was a lot. I totally get that. If you like this, smash the like button, hit the subscribe button.
Starting point is 00:14:16 But all high functioning entrepreneurs follow something similar to this. I really encourage you. I have a notepad I'm looking down at right now. I have a planner. Again, I don't care what planner, but the idea is you have your day chunked out to personal, high revenue generating, eating, the must-dos but are not generating revenue. This is where I'm taking the calls that I've missed and this is where I'm answering emails. And then the simply non-revenue generating tasks, activities, which could be something like for me, I'm creating PowerPoints, I'm creating trainings that doesn't directly affect my revenue, but must get done for my coaching platform. Maybe it's setting up,
Starting point is 00:15:01 you know, call rail, maybe it's setting up podio. All those tasks that are not generating to revenue, that's where you do it. I take the last three hours of my day and that's what I focus on. Hopefully this finds you well. All resources are below.
