Starting point is 00:00:00 Lazang sur-gillet, Puisance-Moyerned 15 minutes. Oh, you'd say that's the Dojo! Prere to play! Vive the pleasure with Leo Jo! The casino in-line
Starting point is 00:00:09 that proposes the most recent machine-a-sou and the games to Casino, in direct, on Big Bas, Bonanza, without exigance, and with the payments instantane. Hey, I've gained!

Starting point is 00:00:26 Depos minimum of $10 dollars. Veil to pay the fire raged all night long. Its orange glow lit up Serafina's window, and the smell of smoke filtered into the house. In the distance, men shouted as they tried to save the fields. Her father joined them, the back door banging shut behind him. She couldn't sleep after that. She lay awake for hours, watching the fire grow and spread like wild magic. It finally burned out near dawn, the bright light replaced by the black light, replaced by the blood. blinding son. Her father had clearly not slept either. There were dark circles under his eyes
Starting point is 00:01:04 when she joined him at the breakfast table. It was unlike anything I have ever seen, he whispered as she sat down. Her mother set a bowl of porridge in front of her, but Serafina ignored it and focused on her father instead. How so, Papa, he shook his head. Eyes glazed over as he relived the horror. Serafina shivered. He looked haunted by the memory. That was not ordinary fire. No matter how many buckets we poured, it only grew.
Starting point is 00:01:35 It finally burned itself out in the end. But not before consuming acres of wheat fields. I fear our community will go hungry this season. Do they have any idea what caused it? Mama asked as she sat down across the table. None. That's the strangest part. The fields weren't even dry.
Starting point is 00:01:55 They shouldn't have burned that quickly. Do you think someone set the fire on purpose? Serafina asked in a small voice. Her father looked at her sharply. Who would do such a thing? They lived in a small community, and the wheat fields provided for everyone. It was unthinkable that someone would want to harm their own,
Starting point is 00:02:16 yet Serafina saw no other possibility. She felt something strange when she watched the fire burn, and got the same twinge now, something wasn't right. While Serafina went about her usual chores, feeding the chickens and weeding the garden, she spotted groups of people walking toward the burned field. Of course, the townspeople wanted to see how much of their crop they had lost. But not everyone was from their community.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Groups of strangers passed by as well. Whole families she had never met. One of them, a young couple with a toddler, approached her with a sheepish smile. I'm sorry to disturb you, but do you know where we can find Davidson's fantastic fearsome critters? We seem to have gotten a little turned around.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Serafina simply stared at them, strawberry juice rolling down her arm as she held her bounty. Could you say that again, please? Davidson's fantastic fearsome critters, the man repeated patiently. When Serafina still didn't react, The woman held out a flyer. Serafina placed the strawberries in the basket
Starting point is 00:03:27 and wiped her stained hands on her apron before taking it. The flyer showed a big striped tent, typical of a circus, with strange-looking creatures in front of it. Large lettering boasted, Davinson's fantastic fearsome critters featuring the world's ugliest creature, the squawk. The creature looked like a large, wrinkly shrimp on four stubby legs. Serafina wrinkled her nose, but the longer she looked at it, the less ugly it became.
Starting point is 00:03:58 In fact, it was so fat in short, it was almost cute. She reluctantly handed the flyer back and shook her head. I've never heard of it, sorry. The couple thanked her and walked away, their red-headed daughter toddling beside them. Serafina watched them as they walked through the fields, and suddenly it clicked. Surely, that's where everyone had been going, not to the burned fields, but to this carnival. Unless they were one in the same, her heart sank at the thought, and she knew immediately what to do. She tossed her apron and basket onto the grass and headed toward the fields.
Starting point is 00:04:39 A few minutes of walking brought her to the large tent from the poster. The fire had indeed consumed acres of land, but none of it was empty now. Every inch of burned field was covered in colorful tents and signs advertising all sorts of amazing creatures. A sizable crowd was already there, and Serafina recognized many of her neighbors. She expected to see sorrow in their eyes, but they smiled at her with glazed expressions, as if in a dream. Good afternoon, Serafina. An older man in tattered overalls waved at her. Farmer Tucker, how are you?
Starting point is 00:05:17 Most of the burned land originally belonged to the Tucker family before they offered it to the community, and farmer Tucker continued to oversee the cultivation and harvesting of the crops. This land was his life. I'm grand, young Serafina. Just grand. He looked at it, too, smiling from ear to ear, eyes alight with curiosity and fascination. But the fire, the land. Oh, that. Yes, that's a pity. But have you seen the squawk? Amazing creature. Someone said there was a furry fish around here, too. I must find it. Nice to see you, Serafina. With that, he bustled away, quickly getting lost in the crowd. Serafina remained motionless, too stunned to move.
Starting point is 00:06:08 What on earth was going on here? The community would starve next season, yet nobody seemed remotely concerned. were too entranced by whatever the tents contained. Maybe they were just using the carnival as a welcome distraction. Maybe she should too. There was nothing that could be done about the crops right now after all. Maybe she should stop being a pessimistic worry ward, as her mother often called her, and simply enjoy the event. She squared her shoulders and headed for the largest tent, its red and white stripes gleaming in the midday sun. She paid the entrance fee and walked in. The tent was round, with cages placed around the sides. It was dark, the only light coming from the tent openings on either side. It smelled of hay, sweat, and something else
Starting point is 00:06:59 Serafina couldn't name. She was familiar with many animals, from dogs to pigs and horses, but the smell was different from any barn or stable. She approached the nearest cage and peeked inside. At first glance, the animal looked like an ordinary one. Wildcat. It was the size of a large dog, and its fur was thick and multicolored, with flecks of white, black and brown. The creature slept, with its paws tucked comfortably under its chin, and eyes closed. It was only one the creature's tail twitched that Serafina realized what was unique about it. The cat's tail had a normal base, but a sphere sprouted from the tail's end, heavy and solid, almost like bone. A nearby sign read,
Starting point is 00:07:46 Keep back, dangerous animal. It didn't look very dangerous to Serafina, but maybe that was just because it was sleeping. She'd never had a particular affinity for cats, yet she had a hard time tearing her eyes away. It truly was an amazing creature. After several minutes, she forced herself to move on and see what else the tent had to offer.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Similar cages held a rabbit with horns, a coyote with webbed feet, and a mysterious mammal with an extensive upper lip longer than her arm. By the time she circled back to the cat, she understood everyone's fascination with the creatures. They were truly something else. Yet, that worrisome twinge kept bothering her. Every time a doubt surfaced,
Starting point is 00:08:35 she'd tamp it down and focus on the animals instead. She spent over an hour in the main tent, and the sun was high in the sky when she finally exited, Blinking in the sudden brightness, the girl looked around at the other tents, deciding where to go next. Each of the smaller tents required its own entrance fee, but she never hesitated to pay. She had to see everything the event had to offer, every animal on display. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As she entered the second last tent hours later, a terrible shriek set her heart racing,
Starting point is 00:09:09 and it took a moment to reorient in the gloomy interior. In a cage, a six-legged furry black creature screamed like a dying woman. It paced back and forth, the sound constantly emanating from its open mouth. Most of the onlookers didn't stay long, but Serafina remained where she was, staring at the creature. It noticed her too and flicked its emerald green eyes toward hers. They stared at each other, and Serafina was struck with a sudden clarity. Here was this beautiful creature, stuck in a tiny cage for people to gauphiard. at. The poor thing was clearly miserable, yet it had no means of escape. This was its life.
Starting point is 00:09:50 But where had it come from? Where did it belong? Another question struck her. This one, too horrifying to ponder for long. How was it made? No other creature like it existed. She was sure of that. So, this one must have been made. But how and why? A shiver ran through her, and she suddenly felt disgusted for participating in the horrible display. She rushed out of the tent, taking deep breaths of the fresh air. Between breaths, she caught sight of a do-not enter sign, hanging across the entrance of another tent, set apart from the rest. This one was dark and slightly battered.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Curiosity washed her anxiety aside, but there were too many people nearby to sneak into the mystery attraction. Instead, the girl visited the last tent, one she hadn't seen yet, housing the squawk from the flyer. Her breath caught the moment she spotted the creature. It looked just like its drawing, but even uglier up close. Its skin was wrinkled, with a face covered in warts and boils. Two small tusks jutted forward near its mouth,
Starting point is 00:10:59 and its feet were too big for its body. But like the six-legged animal, its eyes captured Serafina's attention. They held extreme sadness, spilling out into tears. The creature sobbed, great big blobs of saltwater leaking down its face and falling in a puddle at its feet. Serafina frowned as her own eyes welled up with sympathy. She looked around the tent, but no one else seemed disturbed. They were greedily taking in the sight, pointing at the creature's attributes and laughing at its ugliness. Their jeers and taunts echoed in her ears until she wanted to scream like the six-legged creature.
Starting point is 00:11:38 This was wrong. This was all wrong. So beautiful, isn't it? A man appeared beside her dressed in a black suit. His hair neatly slicked back. The creature shrank away from him, but his eyes shone differently from the other viewers. He wasn't simply interested or delighted in the creature. He was fascinated with it. If he were staring at a woman, Serafina might have said he was in love.
Starting point is 00:12:04 It's something else, she replied carefully, wiping away her tears, so the man wouldn't think her ridiculous. There's nothing like her. Nothing. Serafina frowned. Surely this would be a remarkable creature, even if there were more. The man laughed condescendingly. Would you look at a common horse like this? Would you pay to see a pig in a pen?
Starting point is 00:12:29 I don't think so. The reason these creatures are amazing is because they are unique. They are the only ones of their kind. They're exclusive. The way he said exclusive sent a shiver down her spine. But how can they be exclusive if everyone has access to them? The corner of his mouth twitched in annoyance. You only have access if I granted.
Starting point is 00:12:55 You are Mr. Davidson then? Indeed I am. Marcus Davinson at your service. He gave a mock bow, but Sarapena didn't smile. The way he was looking at the creature before them made sense now. He looked greedy, possessive. These creatures are my pride and joy, he said as if he could read her thoughts. Where do they come from?
Starting point is 00:13:18 He glanced at her quickly, panic on his face. He rearranged his features, but not before she saw that look. Why are you so interested? Most people simply bask in the delight of the unusual, without worrying about where it comes from. Serafina stared at the creature as the puddle beneath its feet continued to grow. Maybe I'm not most people. Her answer clearly startled him.
Starting point is 00:13:43 He shifted his feet uncomfortably and glanced at his watch. Well, I must be off. Pleasure to meet you, miss. He disappeared in a matter of seconds. The creature relaxed as soon as he was gone, but Serafina didn't. She was even more sure now that something strange was going on, possibly even nefarious. And she knew without a shadow of a doubt
Starting point is 00:14:06 that Marcus Davidson was not a good man. The Flyers didn't say how long the carnival would be around, so Serafina had to act fast. As the girl crept through the burned fields that night, her thoughts lingered on those fascinating animals. The six-legged creature wailed like it wished for death. The squawk drowned itself in tears. Somebody had to help them.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Somebody had to get them away from Marcus Davinson. The grounds were eerily silent when she arrived, and her heart hammered in her chest as she quickly slid into the nearest tent, hiding her lantern. She waited silently, but all she heard was the gentle breathing of the animals in the tent. She wiped her sweaty palms and approached the strange cat-like creature again. It appeared to be asleep, but it twitched when she came near and slowly blinked open one large eye. Serafina held her breath, but the animal didn't seem threatened by her. It yawned and settled back into position, closing its eyes again. It didn't look dangerous, but Serafina would have to be careful just in case.
Starting point is 00:15:16 She gently tugged on the bars of the cage, but they didn't move. She pulled harder. Still nothing. She sighed and stepped back. Of course, the cages would be locked. No matter how unlikely it was that someone like her would come around try to free them. Mr. Davidson was not the sort of person to take that chance, not with his precious creatures. She went around the circular tent and double-checked the other cages. Sure enough, all
Starting point is 00:15:44 of them were locked. The only good news was that each lock looked the same, so she would probably only need one key, and she knew exactly where to look. Just as Serafina was about to step out of the tent, she heard the familiar thud of boots on dirt. They sounded, hurried, determined. She gasped and blew out the flame in the lantern, plunging her into darkness. The footsteps paused for a moment, and she was sure they were about to head straight for her.
Starting point is 00:16:12 She held a breath and said her prayer. The footsteps resumed, and to her relief, they headed away from the tent. She sneaked a peek outside and saw a shadowy form duck into one of the smaller tents. She gulped. Now they knew someone was sneaking around. She'd have to be more careful.
Starting point is 00:16:31 But she couldn't stop now. All she needed was the key. Once she had that, opening the cages would be quick work. She briefly wondered about the tent the figure had entered, but set that thought aside for later. Key first, freedom after that. She could barely see the black tent under the cover of night, but the moonlight illuminated the do-not-enter sign.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Goose bumps prickled her skin, accompanied by an eerie feeling that she wouldn't like what she found inside. But surely the key was there. She took a steadying breath and slipped under the tent flap. Blackness enveloped her, and fear slid down her spine. For all she knew, Marcus lurked in the darkness somewhere. But when she held her breath, she heard nothing. With trembling fingers, the girls reached into her pocket and pulled out a match.
Starting point is 00:17:25 The struck flame illuminated an ordinary office. There was a wooden desk and chair, with her little. maps scattered around the room and bookshelves around the space. Along with books about animals and geography, the surfaces were lined with trinkets of all kinds of shapes. She stepped closer and picked one up to examine it. It was an almost perfect sphere, and the smooth surface was white like ivory. Her memory clicked with what it was, and she dropped it like a white-hot coal. The trinkets were bones. Some were clearly skulls, and others seemed to be. to be toes or fingers, but many of them were such strange shapes that she couldn't tell what part
Starting point is 00:18:05 of an animal they were, let alone what kind of creature they came from. But these were certainly not the souvenirs of an animal lover. Why would Marcus Davinson have these? And how did he get them? Someone cursed just outside the tent. Seraphina's heart dropped to her stomach. She blew out the match and crawled into a shadowy corner. Too late, she realized the bone she had dropped was still on the ground. As the tent flap ripped open, the moonlight shone directly on the cartilage. It was the same size and shape as the tip of the strange cat's tail. Marcus continued muttering curses as he ripped open his desk and rifled through the drawers, taking no notice of the bone. He was gone in a flash, and Serafina had just enough time to see what he had grabbed. It was the key.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Muffling a curse of her own, she crept to the open tent flap to watch where he went. He entered the same tent as the other figure, and it was now lit from within, emitting a glow in the darkness. She frowned. That was the Squawanks Tent. But what were they doing with it in the middle of the night? The light from the tent illuminated her path as the girl tiptoed towards it. Prying one finger gently under the tent's cloth, she lifted it just enough to see inside. Her view was directly behind the Squonk's cage. Marcus unlocked the cage, and two men entered. There was something off about the squawk, but she couldn't place it. Thankfully, the creature was just as oblivious to her presence as the men.
Starting point is 00:19:36 How can you be sure? Marcus hissed loudly. While Marcus wore a wrinkled but clean button-up shirt, the other man wore dirty trousers with a jacket full of mismatched patches. He approached the squawk and gently rested a palm on her head. She's not crying, he replied. She stops crying when she's in pain. While the squawk's eyes were open, they remained dry.
Starting point is 00:20:00 The creature emitted a strange squawk as if in confirmation, followed by a shutter that caused its wrinkles to fold over on themselves. Did you see that? The man continued. That was a contraction. Serafina's jaw dropped. A contraction? The squawk was pregnant?
Starting point is 00:20:17 That certainly explained its size. How did this happen? Marcus expressed the question Serafina had been wondering. In the usual way, the man replied dryly. Marcus scoffed. I don't need your attitude. I just need you to take care of it. You don't mean...
Starting point is 00:20:35 Marcus whipped a knife from somewhere and flashed it before the man. Of course that's what I mean. What am I going to do with two of these? The man reeled back. But surely a baby would bring in business. Do you know how hard I worked to get rid of these things? There's no chance I'm letting them repopulate. Serafina bit her lip to keep from crying out as all the puzzle pieces slotted together.
Starting point is 00:20:59 The bones in the office, the maps, Marcus's obsession with exclusivity. These creatures weren't made at all. They were natural. The only reason they were one of a kind was because Marcus made it so. The man glanced between Marcus and the creature. He opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment, the squawk led out a ferocious whale. A minute later, a soft, Plonk sounded on the hay.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Serafina's eyes widened. It looked like a bundle of wrinkled skin the size of a small dog. It let out a whimper and wriggled around. The squawk turned towards it and began licking it, her renewed tears cleaning away the birthing fluid. Here, Marcus shoved the knife at the man,
Starting point is 00:21:43 but the stranger didn't take his eyes off the baby. I can't do it, he whispered as his own eyes filled with tears. We can't keep killing them. I can. Marcus growled. The stranger's eyes widened, and he keeled over with a knife in his back. Marcus showed no emotion as he removed the knife and wiped the blood on the man's pants. Then he turned at the baby. Serafina's heart was thundering so loudly, she was sure he would hear it.
Starting point is 00:22:10 She looked between the helpless baby squawk and the man bleeding out on the hay. Her mind screamed at her to intervene, but her feet wouldn't move. If Marcus found her, he would kill her. But if she said nothing, he would kill the baby. baby. She couldn't let him get away. But just as Serafina was about to rise to her feet, Marcus stepped towards the baby, the knife flashing in his hand. She froze, paralyzed with fear. The mother squawk stopped crying and let out a shriek even more horrifying than that of the six-legged creature. Serafina threw open the tent and stood up. Marcus glanced her way,
Starting point is 00:22:45 surprise, clear on his face. He didn't even have time to raise the knife in his defense before the squawk attacked. Her shriek of fury was joined with Marcus' screams of pain as her giant feet trampled him. Seraphina looked away, but would never forget the sound of the dying man's screams. She forced herself to look again when everything was quiet. The squawk had returned to cleaning her baby, the floor of her cage now covered in blood and human remains. Bile rose in Serafina's throat, but as she turned to vomit, her eyes caught on a piece of metal with an arm's reach. She swallowed and reached inside the cage with a shaking hand. The squawk paid her no attention, too absorbed in her baby. Seraphina grabbed the object and held it up to the moonlight.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Blood dripped from it and ran down her arm. She did it. She had the key. SCP 6968-1 is an anomalous circus-like collection of tents and cages that mysteriously appears after uncontrollable wildfires in various western U.S. states, requiring a $5 payment to enter. The tents are empty, except for cages holding bizarre, biologically impossible creatures, SCP 6968-2, which have no known natural counterparts. This shifting phenomenon manifests unpredictably across states west of the Mississippi, accompanied by persistent wildfires that clear the land for its arrival and attract local attention through advertisements.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Efforts are ongoing to catalog and understand the strange creatures housed within.
