Starting point is 00:01:42 that I've already been admitted to an asylum, which I escaped from, a few times, all accidental, of course. When I tell you I can't help myself, I mean that literally. It happened for the first time when I was a teenager. I woke up one day and went downstairs for breakfast as usual, only to find a stranger in my house. The middle-aged woman making pancakes was not my mother, but when I asked her where my mom was, she freaked out and asked what I was doing in her house. I calmly told her it was my house, but as I said it, I noticed some strange differences. The kitchen table was the same, but it was missing the carving I made with a steak knife when I was eight and no one was looking.
Starting point is 00:02:26 The painting on the far wall wasn't the usual ship rolling on waves, but a distasteful abstract monstrosity, and the curtains hanging above the sink were pink and frilly. My father never would have let those through the door. By the time I realized that I must be in the wrong house, she was already threatening to call the cops, so I rushed out of there. Of course, then I was even more confused, because this was my street, and that was my house, so how come it wasn't? My friend Case lived a few doors down,
Starting point is 00:02:58 so I went over there and knocked on the door. He answered a few minutes later with messy hair and sleep in his eyes, complaining that I woke him up. I barged in and told him about my strange encounter. He cocked his head to the side and stared at me. Ryan, you haven't lived in that house for years. Are you feeling okay? I must admit, I felt slightly panicked then.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I could have sworn I went to bed in that house. How could I forget something like that? But then Case asked if I wanted to go to the beach to look for cute girls, and I forgot all about my weird morning. Until the end of the day, when Case and I went our separate ways, and I realized I had nowhere to go. I went back to my house and peeked in the window, only to find the same woman from this morning knitting on the couch. My couch. I didn't really know what to do, so I just made myself comfortable
Starting point is 00:03:51 among the bushes in the garden and fell asleep. My mom found me the next morning and asked where the hell I'd been. I told her I was with Case, but she shook her head and said that couldn't be true because Case was away on vacation. I didn't know what to say to that. I thought maybe I was going crazy, or maybe I just had a really weird dream and spent the day sleepwalking or something. I just shrugged the whole thing off and pretended it never happened. Things were fine for a while, until the night I woke up in the middle of a forest. I would have chalked it up to sleepwalking again, except the trees were all bent and twisted, and the leaves were pink, like bright pink. I felt like I was in a Dr. Seuss book. When I picked a leaf off a nearby tree, it was soft, almost
Starting point is 00:04:38 silky. I would have explored more, but I wasn't there long. One blink later, and I was in a regular forest. But the pink leaf was still in my hand. I started to get used to the shifts after a while. After the forest, it was a desert. Then it was my high school, except all the girls were in love with me. That one was fun. The next time, I woke up in the jungle and narrowly escaped what looked like a very poisonous snake. Eventually, my parents decided an asylum was the best place for me, but obviously that didn't work out too well. But that's how they found me, the foundation, or as I call them, the suits. They're really not so bad. I've got a nice setup, and they always find me when I come back from wherever I've gone. They let me ask for stuff, and sometimes they
Starting point is 00:05:28 give it, sometimes not. All they ask in return is a detailed account of where I've been and what happened, which is easier said than done sometimes. I've gone places I'd rather forget. I've seen things I wish I'd never seen. This life can be fun, but it's not always easy. I've had my fair share of close calls. Oh, and I used to have two hands. That was before what I call the incident. I woke up in the infirmary, which wasn't at all strange for me, except I didn't remember dimension hopping, and I didn't seem to be injured. I was just about to get up and search for answers when a nurse I didn't recognize walked in. Oh!
Starting point is 00:06:08 She pulled her clipboard to her chest and surprise. I gave her an awkward smile, but that only seemed to confuse her more. We stared at each other in silence for a moment. I'll be right back, she said as she backed out of the room, leaving me on my own again. I was pretty used to startling people by turning up in unexpected places by this point, but usually the nurses knew when I was in the infirmary. A pair of heavy boots tromped down the hall just before the door swung open to admit a pair of suits. They stood at the end of my bed and stared down at me.
Starting point is 00:06:43 It would have been intimidating if they didn't look so curious. Why are you staring at me like that? I finally asked. What's wrong with your teeth? The suit on the left said. My teeth? I felt the inside of my mouth. But I didn't have anything stuck there and everything felt normal.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Yes, your teeth. Why are your canine so small? small. My what? The suits glanced at each other and simultaneously pulled at their lips to expose their sharp fangs. Oh, I guess I didn't miss the shift after all. At their confused looks, I explained. I'm from another dimension. The one on the right nodded in understanding and sent a pointed look to my rather large stomach. That makes sense. I would have been offended, except the suits and the nurse were all absurdly skinny, which seemed to be the norm here. Do you people not eat?
Starting point is 00:07:35 They perked up at the word, eat. You want to eat? I'll get food for you. Just wait here with Ed. The left suit nodded to his partner and quickly left the room. The right suit, Ed, came closer, his eyes on my belly. I squirmed rather uncomfortably as he reached out a long finger and poked at my fat. Um, could you not?
Starting point is 00:07:56 Ed startled and pulled away. Sorry, there's just so much of you. I didn't really know what to say to that. So I just said, Thank you. You're welcome, he replied with a smile, displaying his pointed fangs. Does everyone have those? I asked, indicating his canines.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Of course. Before I could ask anything else, Left suit returned with a steaming plate full of meat. It smelled like heaven and tasted just as good. I moan as I took my first bite. I couldn't tell what type of meat it was, but I didn't care. It was tender, juicy, and salty. melting in my mouth like the finest steak.
Starting point is 00:08:36 You like? Left suit nodded to the plate in my lap. This is amazing! The suits smiled at each other, clearly pleased with themselves. They remained silent while I continued stuffing my face, only speaking once the plate contained nothing but meat juices. Would you like some more? I handed the plate back with a frown.
Starting point is 00:08:56 I wish, but no, that's all I can eat for now. Maybe later? Of course. Would you mind fine? following us now? Ed asked politely. Following you where? You'll see, he replied. I hesitated for a fraction of a second. I'd been in a lot of strange situations, and I tried to be wary during a shift. But these suits didn't seem threatening. In fact, they were incredibly pleasant. Fat shaming aside, of course. Okay, yeah, let's go. They smiled again and directed me down the hallway. The laminate
Starting point is 00:09:30 tiles were squeaky clean, and the white walls made the space feel bigger than it was. Everything appeared to be the same as at home as we passed door after door. Not that I'd ever discovered what was behind most of those doors, but from the outside, they were the same. This episode is brought to you by Accenture. Starting point is 00:10:37 Scotia Bank. You're richer than you think. They stopped at an unmarked door near the end of the hallway and indicated for me to go inside. I held my breath as I opened the door, unsure what to expect. It was underwhelming to say the least. The room was entirely empty,
Starting point is 00:10:56 save for a locket hanging on the wall. The suits followed me inside and shut the door behind them. The space was barely big enough for the three of us, but they gave me as much space as they could. Please remove your clothes. What? Ed gave me what I think was supposed to be a reassuring smile, but it looked more like a grimace. Trust me.
Starting point is 00:11:17 I wasn't sure that I did, but I didn't exactly have a choice. Could you at least turn around? Oh, right. They faced the doorway while I undressed. Goose bumps rose on my arms and legs as I stood in the strange room, completely exposed. Now what? One of the suits edged around the room
Starting point is 00:11:36 to stand on the opposite side while keeping his back to me. He stopped beside the locket and flipped it open. A green orb spilled out and surrounded me. It didn't feel like anything, but suddenly I was warm and comfortable. I relaxed into the feeling
Starting point is 00:11:51 and remained still for a few minutes. When I opened my eyes, I looked down to find that my side, which had been full of scar tissue from a previous shift, was fully healed. The skin was soft and smooth, with not even a hint of damage. And I felt incredible. I felt stronger and healthier than I had in years, not to mention, happy.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I didn't even realize I was smiling until the orb suddenly disappeared, leaving me cold once again. How was that? Ed said from the doorway. That was incredible, but, um, can I put my clothes back on now? Yes, of course. When you're ready, we'll direct you to your quarters. Do you know how long you'll be staying? I shrugged, even though they couldn't see me.
Starting point is 00:12:36 No idea. You can't control it either, then. I wasn't surprised they knew about my abilities. Most other dimensions had a version of me. One of them was even female. Don't even get me started on that. Nope, I responded. Can I see the other me?
Starting point is 00:12:52 Ed hesitated. He's currently away. Gotcha. How long has he been gone? A few days. Right. Well, if he shows up, will you let me know? Of course. This way, please.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I followed the suits through the maze of hallways, and they led me to a decent-sized bedroom with a single bed, a nightstand, and an armchair across from a small TV. It wasn't as nice as the room in my own dimension, but it would do for a while. I slumped onto the bed and fell asleep as soon as the door closed behind them. A knock sounded on my door early the next morning, just as I was waking up. Before I could stumble out of bed, the door opened and a different creature from yesterday walked in. Like the others, he was thin and had prominent fangs that stuck out as he smiled.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Good morning. I hope you slept well. Um, yeah, I did. Thanks. I just came by to ask if you would be willing to provide a small portion of skin and musculature to allow us to study genetic differences. To be honest, I was rather hungry again, so I wasn't fully paying attention to what he was asking. I just sat up and nodded. Only if you provide me with some more of that meat from yesterday. The creature's face lit up.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Oh, yes, certainly. We would be delighted to do that for you. If you just come with me now, we'll do the operation and get you whatever you'd like. Sounds good. I slid out of bed and followed him back down the endless hallways. He led me to a room with an operating table and a counter full of questionable tools. I finally paused then, but it was too late. He gently pushed me into the chair and automatically restraints clicked together on my ankles of wrists.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Um, what exactly are we doing again? The creature smiled, but the sight gave me no comfort. It's just a minor operation. Don't worry, it'll be quick and painless. It was fairly quick, but it was most definitely not painless. I had to sit there and watch them scoop a piece of flesh out of my thigh. They didn't even offer me aesthetics. It hurt like hell, but I kept thinking about the deletive. meal I would get afterward. They took me back to my room where a steaming plate of meat was waiting
Starting point is 00:15:03 for me. It was even better than the day before, and just as I finished it off, they brought me more, and more. They kept bringing it until I couldn't eat another bite. Then I sank into the most beautiful meat coma, and when I woke up hungry, they brought more. This became my regular routine. The creatures didn't ask anything else of me. They gave me free reign of the facility and delivered meat whenever I wanted. It was one of the best shifts ever, and I didn't want it to end. I asked about the other meat a few times, but they always said he was still gone, which made sense, considering I was still away from my own dimension. There was no predicting how long a shift would last, so I decided to enjoy myself as long as I could. The creatures were all friendly and easy to talk to. I got to know Ed
Starting point is 00:15:51 better, and he told me about his family. Left suit was apparently named Tom. And while he was certainly the quieter of the pair, he was a great listener. You would think that being around all those skinny bodies, I would be more conscious of my own, but the meat made that impossible. I gained more and more weight, but I couldn't bring myself to care. Once a plate was in front of me, I couldn't stop eating. I never had to go to the kitchen, since the food was always brought to me. But when I'd been there for over a month, Tom and Ed came to my room and politely asked me to come to the kitchen with them. Will there be food? I asked. Ed smiled, and his fangs glinted in the light. Lots of it. I nodded to the door. Didn't lead the way. I'd done a fair bit of exploring over the
Starting point is 00:16:37 weeks I'd been there, but the place was still a maze. Every door and hallway looked the same, and I hadn't seen the outside, so I had no idea how big the place was. I took mental notes to prepare for the grilling I'd receive when I got home, but there wasn't much I could give them. I'd peeked through a few windows here and there, and I'd asked the suits about anything and everything, but they were pretty tight-lipped, especially compared to foundation agents and other dimensions. At least they were friendly, though. There were no signs for the kitchen, but I could tell we were getting close based on the smell.
Starting point is 00:17:11 The now familiar aroma of grilled meat filled the halls, and I breathed it in. I'd stopped asking what kind of meat it was a long time ago. They could have told me it was cat, and I would still have been. eaten it. I quickened my pace and followed my nose to the kitchen. But before I could get through the door, Tom and Ed each grabbed an elbow and stopped me. Everything okay guys? Ed shifted from one foot to the other and wouldn't meet my eye. Tom gave a brief nod, but I wasn't sure if it was for Ed or me. They pulled me through the swinging door and we entered the expansive kitchen. The stainless steel counters were covered with knives and cutting boards. One of them was even
Starting point is 00:17:51 big enough for a person, and I had to wonder what the chef used it for. Pots and pans were boiling and sizzling on the stove, emitting that delicious aroma that made my mouth water. Oh, good, you're here! The chef exclaimed when he caught sight of me. He hurried over and looked me up and down, his eyes lingering on my belly. You'll be excellent. At what? I glanced nervously at the stove, where steam bubbled from the pots. I should warn you, I'm a lot better at eating than cooking. even know how to turn a stove on. Oh, that won't be a problem. Set them down, boys. Before I could ask what he meant by that, Tom and Ed grabbed hold of my arms and wrestled me onto the largest wooden slab. They were skinny, but they were strong, and they didn't even flinch as I flailed against
Starting point is 00:18:38 their hold. What the hell? What's going on? What are you doing? Is this another biopsy? Of course, I knew it wasn't, considering we were in a kitchen, not a surgery. But obviously, I wasn't considering the alternative. Who would? Nobody walks into a kitchen thinking they're about to be butchered. And yet, there I was. Ed held down my wrists as Tom grabbed my ankles. What's going on, guys? Please tell me. You're freaking me out. Ed looked at me then, a quick glance full of pity. Show on. He murmured to the chef. This spring, denim gets a softer, lighter update. Introducing Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg, a new fit that moves. moves with you. It's everything you want denim to feel like for summer. Easy, breathable, and effortlessly cool.
Starting point is 00:19:27 With a fit that creates natural movement and a wide leg that feels modern, not overwhelming. Plus, that signature, wait, for this price, moment. Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg. The chef shrug and I heard him open the fridge. He came back a moment later and slammed something down beside me. It was a head, a human head, my head. This is all we have left. of the last one. Ed told me calmly, as if that explained everything. I gulped and tried to understand what I was seeing. What do you mean? The last one. You always seemed to find your way here. After we tried the first one, we thought that would be it. But then another you showed up. And just when we finished that one, there was another. You always appear just when we need you.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Need me? Need me for what? He ignored the question and gave me a sympathetic pat on the arm. We'll try to preserve you for as long as possible. I'm sure you understand, given how you've taken to the meat. It clicked then, as the chef appeared beside Ed with a butcher knife. Have you been feeding me? Me? The chef chuckled. A different you, technically.
Starting point is 00:20:34 But you all have the same composition, so yes. And you've been getting better and better. I thought about that first plate of meat. The flesh, so juicy and tender I couldn't stop eating. And every plate thereafter just as delicious. delicious, just as irresistible. My stomach roiled, and I gagged, making Ed hold me tighter. But why? We survive on human flesh, Tom explained with the flash of his fangs. And you taste even better than most. It's not personal, Ed added. While they spoke,
Starting point is 00:21:06 the chef removed the dismembered head beside mine and disappeared. I didn't even realize he'd returned until the knife came down onto my left wrist, breaking bone and severing arteries in one clean swipe. I thought I knew pain. I thought I'd already been through the worst experiences of my life. But watching my hand get severed from my body was a whole new way to suffer. I didn't want to see, yet I couldn't look away. I screamed on the chopping board, writhing in agony as a psychopath with fangs cut off my left hand. I felt the bone break, watched a part of me leave the rest to sit on the table all alone, the same blood leaving me and leaving it. I was still screaming when I blinked, and I was still screaming when they found me, the suits. I was in a clearing of
Starting point is 00:21:49 trees just outside the facility. When I heard them coming, I screamed even louder. Stay back, leave me alone. Ryan, it's okay, it's just us. One of them came forward, and I could immediately tell there was something different about him. He had a round face and full cheeks. His uniform was snug against his belly, but I couldn't be sure. Open your mouth! He halted a few feet from me, and his jaw dropped as he saw my severed wrist. We're here to help. Just let us. Open your mouth! I screamed louder this time as more suits appeared behind him. He cocked his head and slowly brought his fingers to his mouth.
Starting point is 00:22:24 He pulled his lips apart to display crooked yellow teeth, and I relaxed. Well, as much as one can after one's hand is chopped off. My vision turned spotty as my adrenaline ran out, and the blood loss finally hit me. Help me! I said weakly, holding up my bloody stump. It's okay, Ryan, the first suit said, We've got you now.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Not all of me, I replied, thinking about the piece of myself that I would never have again. SEP 507 is a somewhat overweight Caucasian male with blonde hair, green eyes, and a vague accent of unclear origin. Although he has a real name, he prefers making people give him nicknames, and currently responds to names such as Tommy, Steve, Brudo, Guy, Houdini, and grab-knock the destroyer. SCP 507 was recovered from an asylum after repeated successful escape attempts
Starting point is 00:23:20 revealed his anomalous ability. Researchers first believed he could teleport, but interviews later showed that he is actually displaced at random into alternate realities, where the landscape usually remains similar, while the inhabitants in climate can be drastically different.
Starting point is 00:23:37 SCP 507 has no control over when these shifts happen or how long they last, and they have occurred mid-sentence while sleeping, and even while using public facilities. If he moves while displaced, he returns to the matching location in our reality. Mentally, SCP 507 appears mostly normal, with a strong interest in the paranormal and mythology, which eventually led to him being allowed to interact with harmless SCPs and even briefly visit SCP 82 after persistent pleading.
