Okay, so Greg yeah, I
Realized something on my way over here walking over to the arena today. What is that?
It's been three days working together and I haven't complained about something trite
yet.
It's been a lot of hockey, a lot of beefy stuff that we're chewing on here, but it really
wouldn't be me and you if I didn't complain about something trite and have you roll your
eyes about it and maybe even make a pithy comment about it. I'd like to set the scene by the way we are in
Fort Lauderdale Florida and we are both dressed like funeral directors I think
that's pretty impressive. Lots of dark colors. You know what they say when you're in the midday sun
it's 150 degree humidity and it's like 95 degrees we're all black we're as much
black as you can. It's great it's like smell the glove it's like how much more
black could it be?
Spinal tap reference.
Spinal tap reference.
Here we go.
Okay so pithy little reference or pithy little comment by me here today.
So I always, first of all I love this.
Kids are skating behind us.
We talked yesterday about the practice facility.
By the way that girl that was doing the private yesterday before we went on, the girl from
the Chicago Mission, she's on the other pad.
I feel like a stalker now like I'm just like following her
around like I'm some like weirdo scout who's like singularly focused on when
she's gonna make the USA women like that no I know it's very healthy for a
middle-aged man to do I'm just like hey that's the same kid anyhow okay so
behind us it's just it's pleasure skate time right free skate time. Yeah now one of the things has always bothered me is
And maybe the rules are just different in the United States, but they don't seem to be okay
I can't go on the ice
Without wearing a helmet right nobody can like I go on to play shinny with my kids
I didn't know the rings got to wear a helmet. It's an insurance issue, I've always been told.
And I understand that and I respect that.
And again, it's the smart thing to do.
Protect your noggin.
Gotta protect your noggin.
You don't wanna crack some eggs while you're out there
pirouetting on the ice.
What do you notice behind us?
So anyone who's really, oh hang on,
there's one guy out there without a helmet.
There's one child and then there's like one other person
that has a helmet.
Basically what we're saying, Merrick, is that nobody's wearing helmets.
Hold on a second here. It's something more specific than that.
OK. How come figure skaters don't have to wear helmets?
It's a very good question.
They're like jumping and throwing and spinning and twirling and all over the ice.
I can't go past Puck.
So I only thought on that when a cage or when you see a figure skater fall yeah how do they fall probably on
their butts on their butts they're all at falling on their on the rumper you
don't and so like maybe they don't need a helmet if they're practicing the art of
falling on the keister have you ever thought about that no well have you ever
thought about the idea that I'm sure there's been more than a couple of
concussions in the world of figure skating
But they protested so much about not wearing helmets that everyone just sort of throws their hands up in the air and says
Okay, the hockey guys. Yeah, they got to wear helmets
Have you ever thought about the fact that a helmet would clash with the outfits?
That might be a big part of their beautiful and they've been a big part
It's tailored and then they got to wear a big lid and if they were one of those Messier
and then they gotta wear a big lid. And if they wore one of those Messier anti-concussion helmets,
that would take away from the entire artistry of the routine.
Wouldn't it?
There was one, there was one, it was in the West End,
I think it was in McCormick Arena,
I was on the ice without a helmet,
just doing like some basic stuff when the kids were little.
And I remember I got chased off,
like you gotta get off, you don't have a helmet,
you gotta get off, and that's fine,
the Zamboni was coming out in a second anyhow.
And then right after, there's about 30 figure skaters.
And I'm like, what are we, what's going on here? Where are all the helmets supposed to be? Oh, it's figure skating
It's different
That was that was excuse right and then before you know it you're lobbying for them to have shields because one of a sequin pops
Off all cages goes right in your eye. Well, so for every have you seen pairs when one gets cut? That's what I'm saying
Now I thought you were gonna talk about how there was a lack of helmets to which I would say sir
You've spent some time now in South Florida.
Have you seen the way they ride bikes down here?
Oh, it is helmet off, tarp off.
Motor's off.
Oh, there's a lot of tarp off here.
There's a lot of tarp off.
There's a lot of guys in their late 70s tarps off on their bikes as they ride around.
Let me tell you that right now.
They're just happy.
It is.
The human body is beautiful, sir.
They're just happy. The human body is beautiful sir. They're just happy. I do have not a gripe but I saw something this morning that really
made me sad in hockey. Okay. And I'm gonna bring that to you here in a couple of moments
and you may roll your eyes or you may say wow that's an interesting point. Okay. But
we'll see where we get to. But to business, to start off the show we got a couple of bits
of business. One, daily outline. You know it's brought to you by, it's brought
to you by FanDuel. It's powered by FanDuel if you will. Make every moment
more with North America's number one sports book. These are our powerful
topics today. We're gonna go through a couple of final thoughts just to wrap
up what we saw on game three. If you have anything you would like to submit
before we stampede forward to game four present them here now we'll talk about Chris
Kreider on his way to Anaheim as the ducks become rangers west uh other rumblings around the nhl
and a little preview of game four but before we get there you sir are presented today I certainly
are presented and this segment is an entire presentation of Budweiser
Did you get that Clydesdale? I did not but I definitely had a bud
Wiser last night right I might have had a couple buds
Do you have no same but I had a bud wiser last night playing shuffleboard
You did not all got together we played shuffleboard the lounge here in Fort Lauderdale
I was throwing rocks pretty well last night. I know I'm not a very good played shuffleboard the way lounge here in Fort Lauderdale. I was throwing rocks pretty well last night
I know I'm not a very good bar shuffleboard player. I tend to overcompensate
I tend to throw it too hard last night the spin the spin rate was working. That's gross on a team
For a while with our good friend Mike Zeiss burger doctors ed. Love you said I'll tell you was throwing good rocks last night
Mark Masters from TSN really oh? Oh, yeah looks looks looks bookish
He looks like a bookish young lad
But let me tell you something when he gets the stone in his hand
Throw him the best right well Zeiss is no stranger to the saloons
So imagine that Zeiss would be good at it, too
Where was that? Oh, yes the segment is brought to you by Budweiser and maybe shuffleboard
Budweiser is encouraging buds to make time for playoffs,
not excuses.
Every goal, every check, every win
is better enjoyed with your buds.
Phone a bud, text a bud, Greg.
Ping a bud and call out their excuses
for bailing on the playoffs.
Shame, shame.
After all, the playoffs are the most wonderful
time of the year.
Just ask Sam Bennett's wrist.
Make them count when it's springtime, It's go time. You know what gave
me a sad this morning? What's that? Not seeing Sam Bennett in a full armcast during availability
because you believe that he suffered so much battle damage in game three? He was the Black
Knight in Monty Python. That's how I have visions of Sam Bennett. It doesn't matter
what you do to him. No, so I saw the, well first of all congratulations to Kale McCartney, our two time Norris Trophy winner.
I love these viral moments that the NHL is doing,
more so than an awards show.
It's cool, it's fun.
Some have been tear-jerkers,
some have been just flat-out fun,
and a really good time, some have been really creative.
And I thought today's was really nice
with Kale McCartney getting dragged off the golf course to get the Nor nurse trophy. Well, by the way, did I ever tell you how I
How I am about golf? No, I am awful at golf
You know, I say you know, I say about me at golf
What do you say the best two balls I hit is when I step on a rake
I don't even know how to respond to that. I'm not good at golf either by the way. I played I've only played once
In Hawaii and I like play golf somewhere though. That's why we did it. I like hitting the ball hard and
Going long my short game not great
I do believe that much like I lament not learning Russian when I was in high school
Because it would have benefited me later in life
I feel like if I learn how to play golf, it probably would have benefited me.
I like smoking cigars. I like, you know, having to have and having just shoot the breeze.
Like I think I'd be good at all of this stuff in golf except for the golf part.
Except for the golfing thing.
Let me ask you a question about the Macar thing.
Okay. I want to get to my sad here in a second.
Okay. You get this out in a second.
Did you ever hear the story about Montreal writers banning
together to not vote for someone in order to boost up the candidacy of others? Have
you ever heard this story? No. Someone in the media room shared it with me. I think
it might have been a year where a ginnlo was going for the heart and there might have been
a block of them that didn't put a gil on their ballots?
Did you know socks are one of the most requested clothing items by organizations addressing

I know that he didn't have the best of all
possible seasons. His team didn't have the best of all possible seasons and you
know injuries were part of an issue here for him this year. But it's kind of jarring
not seeing Roman Yossi on this list at all anywhere. Right. Like I don't know it's
like you just like lose the respect of everybody for having don't know it's like do you just like lose the
respect of everybody for having I know it's really good I know I know it's okay
to know what I'm on the north no good no he's just like one of my favorite
players and I'm just like oh someone had to like have like a whole currency
was a good vote or something like that for for good old Roman you know what
none Marshall shows not up for the contest fight either.
He wasn't good, his team wasn't good.
He's not here.
I don't know, it just kind of made me like,
oh yeah, like I know it was a bad year for Nashville
and Yossi didn't have the best of all possibilities
Speaking of March the Show, I've been reading some of the
like, trade board kind of things.
Do you think they move him?
I do.
You know what though, so and the two teams that it
came down to when he was choosing, when he was choosing, when he was a free agent and choosing
his next team, it was between Nashville and another headline maker today, Anaheim. Oh, all right.
Now, I'm not saying that this is the sole reason Why marshes so or someone likes him will choose a market, but do you know what's become?
More and more of a thing now than it ever has been before
What's that for free agents one thing that we never?
Talk about like on TNT the other day Gary Batman was talking about
Practice facilities Frank Gary, but sorry you're your new pal your bear hug buddy
That's right my bear hug buddy Gary That's right, my bear hug buddy.
Gary Bateman. They call him Bear Hug Batman folks. Your new pal, you guys are besties, it's kind of cute.
The commissioner talked about practice facilities and everyone in Vancouver went like, oh do you
have to like twist the knife and more like talk it didn't do enough raving about the practice facility
in Philadelphia. It is quite nice though., it is for good reason. Um,
but he ran down the sort of list of things that the boxes that players check
when they're deciding where they want to go. You know, it's another one for,
obviously this is for older guys. Um,
the youth slash minor hockey system in that market for your kid.
A lot of these guys have high-level hockey players.
Like Max Patcheretti's kid is supposed to just be like next level. You see how many second generation
players are coming out now. And and Marcia So has at least, I want to say at least two. I don't know
the full family background or the full family story, but he's got a couple that that play high-level
hockey. And of importance, a lot of these guys, when you're committing to a market is, where are my kids going to play hockey? This is where, and Nashville,
like Nashville's got, there's the junior preds and there's another competing program as well.
One of the smartest things that Nashville did right away, and I think Blake Jeffery
on may have been part of it initially, is help with the minor hockey system. Right.
Help with the youth hockey system right away
so nice so by the way
marches over the wild merrick is
obviously minnesota the best place here
race
put him in the system
clearly he's going to take on a tour of shattuck up there really is this a
syndrome
it'd be a bit better and i don't gonna go play Little Caesars. That's true, Little Caesars.
Do you think the fact that Marciusot could be available impacts, is he the second choice
if you don't get Bennett?
If you're looking for the playoff?
Well, the thing is he's not a free agent though.
He's a trade.
Marciusot is a trade.
Right, but do you think if you don't get Bennett, he's the second choice on the playoff difference
maker totem pole?
Oh, I see what you mean.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Even after a, uh, by his standards, softer season.
Yeah.
100, 100% he is contenders want them.
And why shouldn't they, you know, where he would look good if they lose Sam
Bennett, Florida, it's where it all started.
It's where it's full circle moment.
Right.
Yeah.
Like full, how about this for a full circle moment?
Jonathan Marcheseau ends up in Florida
and Corey Perry goes and finishes off in Anaheim.
There you go.
We're putting the NHL together here for the...
Marcheseau comes back here and he's like,
wow, a lot of shit's changed since I was here.
You guys win cups now?
What's this Baptist Health Iceplex
all about? Where'd this come from?
You changed the logo? What are all these fans doing here where'd you all
come from this is kind of good now this is this is this is kind of great
speaking of Anaheim still not done yet although you know check your watch every
five minutes what do you make of the kryder story kryder to the to the
Anaheim ducks I don't think that you could ignore two connections for Kreider in Anaheim. One being Jacob
Truba. Someone that he spoke, he was very close with in New York. Somebody he spoke at length about
missing when he was traded. And I think the fact that you have two guys that know each other,
was traded and and I think the fact that you have two guys that know each other and two guys that served in a lead leadership capacity with the Rangers
tells you that they've identified the need for there to be a veteran
leadership group around the kids out there and they think that Truva plus
Kreider gives you a solid one the other relationship people have told me I don't
know I don't know this for a stamp people told have told me that he's got an off-season training
relationship with Trevor Zegras.
I've heard that too, yes.
Okay, so that makes sense then.
So that's them saying, we're keeping Zegras,
we believe in Zegras, we want to have somebody in there
that can help him be better.
But the weird thing, when you, like,
just have a quick glance at the Anaheim Ducks
on the left side, it's Troy Terry, Cutter Goche,
Trevor Zegras, where's Chris Kreider gonna fit here?
Can either of them flop on your wing?
I mean, Trevor Zegress can have the left wing or center.
I mean, Zegress could be a center.
Yes.
But then you also have Rhinestrom, Leo Carlson, and Mason Metavish up the gut too.
To say nothing of a...
Hey, it's a good problem to have, isn't it?
We have too many... So wait, is this you saying that they're still gonna probably trade Zeigars
That's awesome. I think that everything's on the table for Anaheim
We've been saying this all week long and I'm gonna be like Dallas is gonna make that is gonna be the team that makes the
Hard decisions, but I think the most interesting decisions might be made by Anaheim
They are like honestly they are going out to make the playoffs next season. If we, this is, this is, this is Anna and they have even when they, even with the,
uh, with, with the Crider deal, the 32 million in cap space still.
Marner.
I think they'll swing.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know if they'll get there.
Um, here's the question for you.
Don't we, we both agree.
Trevor's Zegras is extremely talented right?
100% okay, we agree that his time in anaheim much like we discussed Sam Bennett's time in in Calgary
Has been underwhelming for a prospect of his abilities some of that's on secret
So that's not injury entrance on coaching in my bank
We're an issue I'd like to see him get at least a year with a veteran leadership corps and Joel Quentigal behind the bench.
Just to see what you have. Just to see what you have before you cut bait on a guy with his abilities.
Listen, it's always better when your problems are solved internally. Yeah, I completely agree with that.
Yeah, if that guy can turn around and become the player that they hoped that they were getting when they drafted, it would have been Vancouver draft, then yeah, that's one less thing that
Pat Verbeek has to worry about.
Is it trade official yet?
No, I was just checking.
I got a text.
I just heard it.
You know, your boy doesn't have many sources, but he has a couple sources and sometimes
they text him to say, hey, here's what's up.
Chris Crider's a duck.
Quack, quack.
So yeah, I think Anaheim's gonna be one
of the most interesting teams.
And I think there's a lot of things,
I think there'd be a lot of, put it this way,
every name that comes up,
I think that Anaheim will probably at least inquire about.
Like, I know we're talking so much about Jason Robertson.
Robertson's are from California. Yeah. They have room to pay him when his next
contract is up. Do you ever stand back when you throw your little
your little grenades, your little insider-meric grenades and you stand
back and say and say look what I have accomplished. The whole world's talking
about Jason Robertson now because of you. I was called mad at the university.
When I first put it out, man, you should have seen the fire tweets that I got.
I know!
You're eating space cake.
You don't know what you're doing.
And you put it out in the world.
Everyone's got their... yeah.
Blind scroll finds not.
It is poised to be one of the most interesting off-seasons we've ever had.
It truly is. I shouldn't say we've ever had, that we've had since COVID and the flat cap,
because now all of a sudden things are relaxing and teams have space to do things.
And multiple things. And all of a sudden you're seeing like Anaheim's got how many tens of millions of dollars of cap space?
So this is the question that I have though, and I've been trying to figure out, figure this out.
I've talked to some agents talk to some GMs do you think the the the cost certainty about the cap is going to be more in
about retaining your talent or signing new talent because I wonder if we're getting excited about
something that ultimately doesn't manifest because the sought the certainty about where the cap's
going could easily be well now we know we can spend X amount of dollars
to keep this guy you know I thought
releasing of the salary cap for the next
three years was really all about it was
about negotiating the CBA hundred percent
and keeping the players in line hundred
percent look what's coming I said that
look what's coming I was at the draft
lottery with my good friend Gary
Betman so and I said I said Gary I said
to Gary I said look I thought not said to Gary, I said to Gary, I said look, I thought, not for nothing,
but you guys putting out the salary cap numbers
for the next three years was genius.
And this is one of the best negotiating tactics I've seen.
I don't know if he said thank you or not, he should.
I was trying to put him over.
It was brilliant.
Like any unrest that you might have,
like when we talk about the CBA being smooth
and we're not gonna have to shut down a season
and do all the bullshit we've had to do
for the last 30 years,
one of the reasons why is because the players
don't have anything to be bent out of shape about.
They don't like escrow and blably, blably,
but for the most part, they know that their salaries
will be growing because they know where the cap is going
and that's a great way to kind of keep everybody
from lighting their torches and and and and marching on Toronto
don't you think? It feels weird because my entire life like and my entire
professional career like Gary Bettman took over in 1993 yeah okay like the
last time the Canadian team won the Stanley Cup and I would have been 20 no
no no no no no I'm not no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no my first one that I really, and I think a lot of us too, dug our teeth into and tried to really understand
how the league works and what are all the dynamics.
And one of the lessons coming out of that one was,
and you know, Batman was quite strong on it,
to all the owners, we need to own our ranks.
Because if we don't own our ranks, then they have leverage.
We need to own the ranks.
But it's weird. It's weird seeing the executive
director of NHLPA and the commissioner sitting together on a stage smiling as they negotiate
a CBA. I'm not used to seeing Roman Yossi on a Norris list and I'm not used to seeing
that. What happened to the old NHL? They used to hand out Norris to Roman Yossi
and stop seasons from happening. Whatever. I think we should enjoy this moment.
Yeah. Because I I'm telling you I I've said this before and I hate to say it
because it makes people sad but like there are a few storm clouds you know
as the cap goes up the salaries go up and the contracts get bigger
And you're not gonna be it you're not gonna expand to 40 teams
Like the fire hoses might be shut out shut off after after this next round of expansion for a while
I think it should for a while. Yeah, because you've got your you've got some rights deals in the u.s
That'll fill the coffers in a few years, but the one in Canada's set
Yeah
I mean there is going to be an inflection point of these guys are making too much money
and we have to rethink of our salary structure because the revenue streams are not going
to be able to keep up with the rising salaries in theory.
And so I'm happy we're going to get through this one.
It's going to be pretty smooth sailing.
But maybe it's just the cynic in me from having seen these wars that I'm more worried about
the next one after this one there's still a gold mine
that's out there what I don't have the answer is the AI no it's Bitcoin it's
Europe Europe yeah like that's still the gold mine that's that's sitting out
there and as and whenever it happens when when Gary Bettman transitions to
his next role in the NHL as Commissioner Emeritus,
yes, Commissioner Emeritus, head hugger, for ESPN media like you, yes.
And Bill Daley takes over, like don't forget, like that was Bill Daley's file.
I was just going to say that. That's been Daley's file for a long time.
job is basically European revenue creation and expansion. Not expansion to Europe, don't get me wrong, but maximizing the money they can pull out of Europe.
Now I don't know if it's just purely to sell jerseys and tickets, but the NHL opening an
office in Zurich earlier on this year very quietly.
Yeah, a lot of fanfare.
Like no fanfare, no big press releases, no speaking tour, very quietly staffing this
thing too. I just wonder if this is one of those, we've talked about you know setups
for the next commissioner. Have you, if indeed it is and we all expect it to be, even if
it's just in an interim capacity, Bill Daley is an ex-commissioner.
Europe is set up right there for him to knock down.
And that's been his file for years.
Yeah, when you say knock down, like what in your mind are you saying?
I don't know what the-
Are you saying an NHL Europe finally or no?
I don't know, I don't know the- that's why I ask, like why is it opened up?
Is it just for the European tours that they do, the European games, or is it for something
more significant?
Because to your point, eventually you
squeeze every last nickel and dime out of North America.
What do you do?
Where do you go?
Europe seems to be the only one.
Like honestly, I wonder if, I talked to someone about this
earlier on this year, who would be in a position to have
an educated imagination about it.
About NHL Europe?
Not NHL Europe, but one idea for a launch for something significant in Europe.
How would you have all 32 teams open the season in Europe?
The whole league opens in Europe.
Wow.
Because right now it's just a couple of games, right?
And sell-outs and jerseys and all these things.
16 games in Europe.
16 European cities.
Yes.
Open the season in Europe.
Not just a couple exhibition games.
The amount of politicking and griping
that would be inherent for the team
to open in Barcelona versus the teams that open up in, you know, one of the Eastern Bloc countries.
That's, you know.
But don't tell me that wouldn't be a lot of fun.
And an indication that we are finally significantly interested in Europe and prepared to do something about it more so than just we're gonna have six games. Hey buddy, buddy, where did they say you're
opening up? Oh we're opening up in the south of France, where are you?
Well I'm in Riga, Latvia. Yes, it's a gold mine there. I like that idea. I also love
that, listen, if you're asking pie in the sky kind of, yeah, like my pie in the sky
idea has always been NHL Europe, we, kind of, yeah, I mean, like, my pie in the sky idea has always been,
NHL Europe, we somehow get teams in Russia,
I don't know how that happens, we make it proper,
NHL Europe, and then before the season,
you have a Summit Series between the Stanley Cup Champion
and the Champion of NHL Europe,
they play each other, and may the best team win.
How fun would that be?
That would be a lot of fun.
Yeah.
Listen, I used to, as a kid,
you know what some of the most fun games were that we would all get excited about when they did the WHA-NHL
crossover games. Oh yes. Think of that happening now, well first of all you don't have a
rival league to cross over to. Yeah. But just think about how wild that would be if it happened now.
Well people might not remember like before all of the Russia things, the KHL and the
NHL used to have exhibition games against each other.
What would happen here?
Oh, remember Carolina played?
Carolina played.
And they all went after Eric Stahl's hand.
Carolina played.
Do you remember who they played?
I think it was St. Petersburg.
It was St. Petersburg, it was SKA.
And the hurricane said after the game that all the Russian guys were trying to break
Eric Stahl's hand.
They're like, we're never coming back. This is the worst idea. And the hurricane said after the game that all the Russian guys were trying to break Eric Stahl's hand.
They're like, we're never coming back. This is the worst idea.
I have to rethink this one. Potential of injury in hockey is a little bit higher than other sports here.
It's not like baseball, folks.
That would be cool as hell.
Yeah, it would be.
It really would be cool as hell.
Alright, so back on Anaheim for a second.
Sure. Kreider comes, he's playing left be. It really would be cool as hell. All right, so back on Anaheim for a second. Sure.
Kreider comes, he's playing left wing.
We don't know what that means.
By the way, by the way, you know what I do, and I legitimately just wonder about this.
I wonder if the seeds of this were planted or the initial conversations, because it's
the same two teams, were planted last summer.
For the truth, when they were shopping.
So let's talk about the more, all due respect to the Ducks, interesting side of the equation.
I think Ducks are really interesting here. Hold up. Not as interesting as the Rangers opening up that salary space.
What are they doing? What is the Chris Drury plan? We know the plan overall is we want to make the core of our team a bunch of little JT Millers.
We want to make us tough
to play against you want it to be more of the sons of JT Miller than the sons of
Zabana Jad and Kreider what are they doing now with that salary space what
are they targeting you know see the first thing I thought of I mean you
thought of the salary cap the salary cap space I thought about guys like Gabriel
Perot yeah and I thought about guys like Brennanot. Yeah. And I thought about guys like Brennan Othman.
Yeah.
And now, like, there's less blocking.
Unless, to your point, they're just
going to replace them with another veteran.
They're bringing Ehlers.
They're bringing, listen, Ehlers?
Ehlers wouldn't surprise me at all.
Yeah.
Do you remember on the left side of the New York Rangers?
It was hilarious.
It was, it was Kreider, Fast, and Rick Nash. That was their left side. Yeah, and all the Rangers would do it was hilarious
they would get the puck to the neutral zone and then the defense would just
Lobbett past the other team's defensemen and they would just like honestly the whole the whole attack was make a race
Yeah
We're just gonna make races on the left and everything for the Rangers was left side left side left side
Because they had three of the fastest players in the NHL.
And it was just make a race, make a race, make a race.
See, you're talking about the fascination
with the Dux Delights.
So again, you look at the Rangers.
Kreider, in theory, gone.
What are they doing with the Banagad?
What are they doing with Keandre Miller?
What are they doing with that salary cow space?
Like you said, they have some really good.
One of the theories, by the way, is David Quinn is there because of Keandre Miller. To keep Miller around? He's like the Keandre Miller whisperer.
Have you heard that theory? Yeah, it's the same theory as why Adam Foote's coaching the Canucks.
It's like, we gotta keep Quinn here somehow. We're gonna put his guy in the top spot.
No, it's an interesting theory. But again, you have their defense up right now on on daily face-off That to me would be the the interesting place
These would be where they might be targeting people this summer like they do have to get a lot better on the back end before
They're gonna ever
Actualize as the team they want to be and I wonder what that what that ultimately looks like don't know
I I should probably have a better answer for you or a better piece of this conversation.
But really, I don't even think that the Rangers are done. I don't know if the Rangers are done shoveling out the barn here yet.
Yeah.
So, the question then becomes, who should we be looking at next?
I know. Exciting times. It is exciting.
It's fun when the Rangers are bad. Like get they get they get silly and they start doing fun things
When they're good, it's kind of like, ah, they're just gonna roll it back year after year
But now they've got this interesting mix of like some veteran guys
They got that like you mentioned a bunch of really interesting kids
I think we're both probably real big will Cooley fans, right? Oh, how could you not? Yeah exactly
So like I'm I'm excited to see what what again?
There's so many exciting teams that
have to do things now. The Rangers, Vegas, they're going to have to respond. So, you
know, there's so many teams that are going to have to do things that are fun this summer.
Parking on Vegas for a second here because it was looking like Nick Hague was not going
to be brought back because of salary cap considerations
but now with all the uncertainty around Alex Patrangelo, yeah, and
Will he be able to play even if he doesn't play next season? You know the is he done question?
that opens up
Eight million dollars cap space 60 million over two years at this point point you can't spell Petrangelo without LTIR, folks. Pfft.
Hehehehe.
Hehehehe.
Just say, I mean you can't.
I know!
You need the T.
Everyone's gonna have the same.
L is in there somewhere.
Everybody's gonna have the same reaction, aren't they?
Oh, come on!
They're gonna do it again?
They did it again! Vegas did it again if I get it but hold on if this is the root the
if it's a big here's the intrigue though right like they'll get they're gonna
get it in in theory before I mean like they've talked about trying to rectify
these rules in the CBA yeah they'll have another year to do this before they're
right well they will they will they retroactively punish Vegas for misusing LTI are
Will they get Koval chucked for it? Oh probably not probably not. Oh, I hate them going after those
Just yes, but they'll yeah, they're I mean they're gonna do it again
It sounds like and then open up that space resign. Hey go go shopping from a Marner. Yeah, maybe yeah
I can see Marner. Yeah, that would make a that would make a ton of sense
Hot stove NHL talk baby
It's fun. It's not a fun honestly and and what do you do?
So I know you know what it makes me miss though what makes you miss the proper draft
Like an offseason this chaotic
I know you can't be why you go to the draft and you go and you know
Have beers at some one of these guys in the hotel and figure out what's going on and and go and shuffle up to the
Fence to go talk to him during the draft like that's that's why the draft was cool
Is because when you have all of this scuttle, but you can really kind of worm your way in and figure out what's going on
It's a lot different than just one GM calling another general manager. Yeah need them like on the floor talking to one another in the same city,
out at night at restaurants.
You know what, I think, you know, one of my ideas was for the draft always was,
you know, those microphones that have the little satellite dish around them that
you could point and hear conversations at a long distance, would they have allowed
me to bring that to the draft and to stand at the fence
and point it at different tables? To listen to the conversations?
I don't, I don't. You don't think so? I really, I'm gonna go it on a limb here and say no.
Do you think NHLPR would come over if I was wearing big headphones and pointing a satellite
microphone at different tables to spy on teams that they would frown on it?
I'm guessing they might, but listen, you're buddies with the Commissioner now.
Who knows? I think if I tried to do that I'd get a hug from behind from security.
Oh you know what was jarring today? What's that? There was a lot of things
shocking. I didn't like Nazi and Yoshi on a list. Figure skaters without helmets
when hockey players have to wear helmets, male and female, I add.
There was something really jarring today. Did you see the Dan Muse press conference?
I did not.
I know you think I'm really petty. You have that look on your face like it's done.
This is from Larry Brooks.
I'm told Kreider's camp had informed Drury he would be be unmentable to go into Anaheim before negotiations began after being informed last night of the prospective deal
Crieder is now processing it all and going through his due diligence before he signs off on it
And then I don't know what the rest of it is
Oh, there is no separation here between Crieder and the Rangers now
This is important because no one is closer to Crieder than Larry Brooks in that locker room
As far as the media goes so follow Larry for the Crichter news. He'll have it
Yeah, and he's I mean is he trying to put out a little little doubt into the into the proceedings here that Crichter has
The signed off on it yet. He's processing things. Oh
I'll be real fun if this doesn't work out
If this doesn't happen by now. Oh my god. What if he's gonna f over?
Drury for what he did to Truba. Oh
That'd be amazing
That'd be amazing if Crider is just like luring them. He's like he's like it's like a dollar bill on a string
He's like luring them and luring them and luring them and Drury's like, oh my god
Who what prospect are we getting and then Crider's like yoink fooled you
do you remember all right because I'm in my in my brain I'm trying to remember
like the greatest false starts in hockey history do you remember during the 0-4 0-5
lockouts there is a moment where everybody gathered like media, players
association, NHL at the St. Regis Hotel because everybody was convinced like
everyone got the calls remember I got the call like late that the CBA is done
and there's going to be an announcement at the St. Regis and there and everybody got there and everybody did this
Look around I thought you were supposed to do something
And
Nothing happened. Yeah, and we got totally everybody
Got hooked in. Yeah, that's what that would remind me of. Yeah. We've had other close calls too.
Just chum the water, chum the water, chum the water, chum the water.
I'm sure he'll go.
Like, he'll go.
We can't be this far down the line and him not go, right?
I don't know.
By the time you listen to this, he'll be a duck, hopefully.
Most likely.
For the betterment of everybody, he needs a place where they want him.
And you know what Anaheim-
Rangers need to go in a different direction.
Do you glance at where Anaheim was on the power play last year? No. 30 second. They could use somebody in front of the net.
Just over 11 percent. Yeah.
So they do need some. No, the jarring moment, like is it a tough day for your boy
Jeffy because there's a Roman Yossi thing too that jarred me.
Kyle Dubas at the press conference today?
Sons glasses.
Nooooo.
Dude, check it out.
Did he get late six?
I have no idea.
But it was like, they put out, the Penguins put out videos of Dubas addressing staff with
Dan Muse beside him and introducing Dan Muse to all the staff.
And he had the glasses on.
Press conference?
No glasses.
I don't know how to react to that.
It was jarring.
Yeah. I've only ever known Kyle Dubas with glasses. Yeah. What have you said? I didn't know how to react to that. It was jarring. Yeah. I've only ever
known Kyle Dubas with glasses. Yeah. What did Muse say? I didn't hear the press conference at all.
You know, it was it the interesting like my big takeaway from the whole thing and I gotta,
I gotta really think about what this means. Maybe you'll be able to understand it right off,
right off the hop.
Dubas talked about why Muse was hired over other candidates.
Really?
Yes.
And he said it's because Muse isn't married to just playing one style of hockey.
I believe the word he used was there's an adaptability there with Dan Muse.
Now I did hear that Muse, he interviewed so well.
And he's so well regarded in the coaching fraternity too.
But yeah, he said it was his adaptability.
To me, my initial thought on that is,
he's essentially, as we've been talking talking about going to have to coach two teams
There's the Pittsburgh Penguins with the guys that are not going anywhere that are retiring his penguins and then there's the team
That's a really good point. That's what I think that Dubas was was after here
Yeah, this is a guy that is not just gonna be married to one thing. Yeah, because he knows he essentially he's got it again
I've maintained.
I know Kevin Shevelda off has a really tough job as a GM
getting players to Winnipeg and getting him to stay.
It's a really hard job.
One of the hardest jobs in NHL.
I think though, right now, given all the things that Dubas has been handcuffed with,
although he goes into it, eyes open wide, eyes without glasses, by the way,
he may have the most difficult job.
Yeah. Because he's essentially juggling two teams and trying to restock a farm
system and draft capital all at the same time.
What did you make of, I saw a peer LeBrun report that the former ownership group
with the penguins, including Mario and Ron Burkle, were trying to reacquire them.
Now I had heard-
There was a rumor a while ago-
There was a rumor that Fenway was trying to get rid of that asset.
No, I heard that it was just a piece. Just a piece of it. That's again, but this is like months ago
It's one of those. Hey, have you heard this buyer's remorse now from these guys? I have no I have no I have no idea
I mean, it's really funny. I have no Clippers. Mary's like I shouldn't have sold the penguins. Oh my god. What did I do?
I'm bored
Hey Ron, wanna buy that thing again?
What's Warhouse doing?
You know what'll happen.
Malkin assigns an extension.
Mario buys the deal.
Malkin signs an extension.
That he's there forever.
I don't know, man.
Penguins, who's to say?
Interesting times.
Do you have any more follow up thoughts on game three
before we take more of a look on game three?
Interesting thing happened here today at the rink,
which is that, so two days off between games,
basically the way it worked was that the coach just spoke
one day for each team and then the players didn't.
And then, so today it was the Oilers turn.
So Chris Knobloch did a Zoom call
at 10 o'clock in the morning,
talked about the goalie situation.
I asked him about, are you prepared to name a starter
for the game?
And he said he is not.
Once again, spoke glowingly about Calvin Pickard's play
earlier this playoff, but he's been very, very steady
in reiterating he didn't think that a lot of the goals in game three were Skinner's fault
disagree on that a little bit, but it kind of tells you I think we're good there thinking is but the interesting thing was he said
It's gonna be an optional skate today for the Oilers. It's kind of an off day
He said clear heads go go have fun here at the beach whatever I walk over to the rink on the
other side of where we are right now Oilers option optional skate like
everyone but S.A. Teekin is out there like it's like the most well populated
skate you could possibly imagine McDavid's out there dry titles out
there the goalies are out there and I'm like all right can I when you have when
you have Connor McDavid on your team, and you just got beaten the way that you did.
If he's skating, you're skating.
You know what the word optional means?
Mandatory.
Right?
That's like when you're a rookie in the NHL at training camp, and oh, the skate today
is optional.
Yeah.
Not for you, it ain't.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah. I don't think, outside of Esa of s attikin and yes and maybe Glenn Anderson the only thing
I'll say about you go from the oilers perspective is that you are starting to
see knob block not a little bit more aggressively towards Zach Hyman not
being here and and now where you're seeing it is it's impacting his ability
to go with the nuclear option.
Now when you're playing Connor and Leon together,
you are really putting your other lines at a detriment.
One, because Hyman's not here.
More importantly, because, and he's not gonna say this,
but it's the truth, his bottom six
has turned back into a pumpkin.
Yep.
And that's the real issue right now.
It's like they were using their depth to such an advantage in the previous rounds
to the point where we would like openly talk about
you don't need Connor and Leon every night to be the heroes
because these other guys are picking up the slack.
Those guys are getting four-checked into oblivion.
They're not producing.
They're getting outplayed by the third and fourth lines of the of the panthers
That fourth line of the Panthers was incredible in game three
Oh, they drove Edmonton so that's drove Edmonton right now
It's like but here it's hindering his ability to go with the the line that you know will score because it's gonna
Wreck the rest of your lineup. Yeah, they can't afford that right now with the way that the Panthers are playing
That's what I wondered about in in the series against Dallas like was like what was the better chance of happening?
The Dallas Stars bottom six waking up or the Edmonton Oilers bottom six going to sleep right?
Now all those bottom six did not go to sleep no and the Dallas Stars bottom six did not wake up
They are still slumbering and I heard about it whenever you put these things out there into the hockey Twitter
People don't forget no and people remind you and that's that's why hockey Twitter is the best check for anybody specifically me
But maybe we're just a series too late on that one. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I
I still think there's some mixing and matching you can do
I think they're gonna obviously change up the D next game.
He said there's going to be changes to Knoblock.
We assume it's going to be on the back end.
But there was changes all throughout the game a couple of nights ago.
Well, Stetcher will be back in, right?
Stetcher's in for Klingberg.
Easily, yeah.
So there you go.
Listen, the more I think about the game the other night,
the more I think about what the Oilers are saying about that game,
you could see their point, which is that terrible start, but then it's 1-0 and 1-0 and 1-0 and 1-0,
and you're going through all the power plays and no one's scoring, and then Verhege scores in the power play,
and now that's just your death blow.
Because you had a chance to make it, we talked about it yesterday, the third goal is the
most important, you had a chance to make that a 1-1 game on several opportunities in the
first period.
They couldn't do it, but Verheggie scores and now it's like, ah shit, now we're in
trouble.
Is Verheggie like legit, you know we just always laugh about Louis Erickson. Is he legit the most underrated guy?
He's underrated, but I think he's he's one of these guys that's now in the class of
Underrated in the regular season, but everyone knows how good he is in the postseason. To me
He's he's one of those great lessons where don't make your mind up on a guy
Early in his career just because you don't like the skating. Yeah, One of the things we've learned in this new NHL with skills coaches, you can fix skating.
You're not going to turn into Pavel Bure.
Right.
And listen, Carter Verhege is never going to look graceful out there, but he's nowhere
near as poor a skater as he was coming out of junior.
I was talking to a current player on another team today about the Panthers.
They have a lot of bad skaters, by the way.
I was trying to glean what it is about them that,
I mean, there are other tough teams in the league,
but what is it about them that is the point of separation
between being a tough team and being the Florida Panthers?
And he described it to me this way,
which is that other teams will knock you down,
other teams will not then stand over you and taunt you for being knocked down
and say, we're going to beat you and then skate away.
And that is sort of the Panthers thing.
It's not simply just like being physical and being agitating.
It's like, it's a, it's a sense of domination, mentally, on the scoreboard that kind of drives them.
And I thought that was an interesting point.
Again, from somebody who plays, not just from me pulling it out of the writer narrative air.
So to me, there's one thing that the Panthers do, but in a different way than this team.
There is some Mike Babcock Red Wings in the
Florida Panthers in in one specific way. That Red Wings team, we've talked so
much about the one-minute penalty, that Red Wings team were the masters at
casual picks. That officials would look at and go, it's kind of a pick but
it's not too,
like I can't call that.
And this was all over the ice.
This was, and they were the, Zetterberg was the master,
Fronson was the, like so many of these guys were masters
at that casual skating pick.
Now, the Florida Panthers have taken the idea of the one minute penalty and said, okay,
we know what a one minute penalty is now and we know that officials don't want to call
it because they will look bad.
But I don't know that I have honestly wished, I don't know that I've ever seen a team that
knows exactly where the one minute penalty line of legality is.
I've never seen a team master the one minute penalty like the Florida Panthers have.
We look at it and go like, yeah it's a call, but and they do it all and it just accumulates.
And it's also Bennett falling on goalies and after the whistle stuff like they,
it is a talent to know where the line is and these guys seem to always know exactly where
the line is in each game
Now I thought you were gonna say they remind you of Mike Babcock team because after Sam Bennett hits you he asks to see your phone
Because he wants to see pictures of your family. Is that true? Where'd you go on vacation?
Grand Canyon, hey awesome. Give your coach a look. Oh, what's this one here?
Oh, do you looks like you don't got pants on on this one? Oh interesting?
I knew when I said the coach's name like he's just like that was I just love it just love the
stories
Shout out to Paul Bissonnette and he business that a lot for the world of hockey
But in that case he did he gave us something we'll never not talk about you know what and wouldn't get your phone and and and when there and when there was pushback he dug in his
heels and said no yeah right like that was that was a brave moment go see your phone
oh what's got here okay what's that an eggplant oh let's let an eggplant oh geez okay let's get to

Zach back at master control, which is your tastefully decorated condo. What do we have
in the crispy box today? What's on your mind? Okay, so this one comes in from Brian and he
starts off by saying, can the Preds have a bounce back season and what?
Would that look like but I wanted to be making say this goalie making goalie making saves. Let's start there
Oh, by the way, just as a quick as I was having this conversation last night at dinner
I was told that Andrew brunette's had the head coach of the Nashville Predators, you know
Like every coach like has like, you know,, their books, like these are the breakouts.
He's the king of that.
He has 75 face-off plays.
Wow.
75.
Wow.
Zach, when you played, did you know 75 face-off plays?
No, we had about five.
Okay, that's what I figured.
Like 75 is like excessive, right?
Yeah, that's way too many face-off plays.
That's why the Predators sucked last year.
They spent all their time memorizing the playbook.
Oh no, 17, not 26.
Yeah, play 67.
Play 67.
Ryan O'Reilly breaks his stick.
He's like, god damn it boys, I called out 54!
And you ran 36!
Shouldn't have brought that up.
All right.
Oh no, no, but I'll answer.
Yeah?
I think they'll be better.
I think their problem right now is I don't know
if they could be good enough to make the cut in the west.
Yeah that's a good point. Dallas, going nowhere. Winnipeg, not going to Colorado, not going anywhere.
St. Louis will be better, Minnesota. But then again there's always, there's always teams that
we don't see completely fall out of it. Yeah, but the Central is a meat grinder. Yeah, it is. And they're going to be trying to improve in a division.
I mean, who knows?
Maybe Dallas falls off after they fired a board.
Maybe he was the guy driving them to that points percentage in the regular season.
Who the hell knows?
But that's the climb for them right now is the Central, and that's a tough climb.
By the way, I love the fact that we decided to do a show during nine-year-olds taking face-off
practice. Man they chopped the ice hard as they learned to stick handles. It's like being at a
tap dance show at Radio City. You don't understand like as a hockey dad, I love it
because this is when hockey was fun. Yes. Like it's way too serious now for my guys.
Right. Like this is like the fun stuff and Yes. Like it's way too serious now for my guys. Right.
Like this is like the fun stuff and I don't think I have this like nostalgic haze about it
because I don't know that I appreciated it as much as I should have.
I see no reason why when I walked over to Oilers practice before they shouldn't be doing that.
Play it like mites. Bring it back to basics.
Okay, get the markers out, make a circle.
That's right.
Two guys in the circle.
That's right. Back to basics. Okay, get the markers out, make a circle. That's right. Two guys in the circle.
That's right.
Back to basics.
Boys, I got more from this,
from this email here. Oh, there's more, okay.
That I think you should hear.
Yeah, it's not part of the question,
but I want you to hear. Well, you almost ruined
the Ninja Crispy inbox.
Oh, okay. Ninja Crispy inbox is fine, wish.
Have some respect.
Brian also says,
"'I just wanted to share my favorite MBSW moment.
It was the cold open where Radulov and Kostitsin
had fallen off
Dry Island after game two, the second round of the 2012 playoffs. Some much needed levity
for Preds fans. Thanks, Brian. He also says particular Pred, Radik Bonk.
Particular Pred. Random Penguin. Yeah. Remember that? Oh my God. I want off on their own and no one could find those
This is a playoffs I saw a highlight of Raduloff celebrating in the KHL. Yeah, they won the championship that guy
I miss that what a personality. I miss that guy too
Great personality he was like when he when he wanted to play and it wasn't all the time all the time
No, but he wanted to play man Raduloff was sick. Radulov. Now I was always told about him that he always
played because his family stayed back and lived in Russia and he
always he never played well unless they were here with him. That was his like
total happy place. Interesting. Because the teams are like oh thank God the
family's coming he'll be in a great mood.
He's going to play great.
Huh.
I like that.
Sorry, but I love Radulov.
He was fun.
Big personality.
We need more enigmatic Russians, Merrick.
We don't have enough in the league.
Send me Dennis.
They're all good.
Send me Dennis Gurianoff now.
Give me Sergey Samsonov not in a contract here.
Going up to Guy Carbone. I'll just get get something straight like I don't kill penalties. See that the geek carbon best defensive players.
Let's just get one thing straight here.
I do we have any more from that one any more nostalgic Nashville notes.
I think we're good.
I guess that's it.
That was all.
The radical thing was the end.
Do you have any further thoughts on game three ahead of game four?
We'll probably do a full preview tomorrow, but do you have anything lingering in your mind?
The one thing that I was thinking about, just going back and thinking about the game over the past 48 hours,
is one of the most impressive things to me about this Florida Panthers team is
within the game they can play so many different styles of games you know I
just do this was talking about adaptability with with Dan Muse and
we're seeing it with the Florida Panthers like they play so many
different kinds of game within a game itself but for the Panthers it's
profound yeah and they're doing and the Panthers, it's profound. Yeah.
And they're doing, and the thing is like, it's got to be endlessly frustrating for Edmonton's,
obviously, for specifically for game three, because they played all these different styles
of games and they beat Edmonton at every single one.
That's what I was saying before the series.
Like, I can't remember another team that team that has the patience that the Panthers have
to wait until you give them something to work with
and then they capitalize on it.
And then nine minutes later, you're down by three goals.
I mean, that's just how they operate.
And again, I think it took them a while.
Paul Maurice was talking this morning about how they learn to not do after the whistle stuff and that
It's a skill that you learn that overreact to things
I think they figured it out during their first run to the cup final when they lost to Vegas
But it's probably something that they learned over time that patience to just not force it
Don't get frustrated if you're not playing your game.
Allow the game to come to you and then play the best version of that game.
And they're uniquely gifted at that.
Yeah.
Does Edmonton have a chance tomorrow?
Huh?
Edmonton has a chance tomorrow.
They do.
They need a strong game from Skinner and they need to capitalize on special teams. You're convinced of Skinner starting
Yeah, I think it's short leash. I think it's short leash Skinner and then and then most importantly
Get on the board
Get on the but you cannot if they give up another goal the first four minutes of the game
No, I know. I mean, it's just gonna do the snowballs rolling down the hill again kids doing Michigan scoops. It's hilarious
Between his legs.
Look at this.
I enjoy seeing the proud hockey dad in you come out
when you're watching these kids.
I just know you don't understand,
this is making my day.
Yeah.
This is the happiest part of my day is watching these kids.
Now they're doing the 10 and twos around the stick.
You have the same look in your eye that I had
when I looked at Taco Bell at 2 in the
morning last night after playing double board.
And put your cigar out.
Yeah, I'm just like, what do I smell?
I'm looking at that five layer burrito the same way.
I'm like, oh my God, I'm so proud of you.
It reminds me when I was a kid.
All right, we got one more bit of business to take care of here.
Then we can all be on with, oh, by the way, I had a conversation with Johnny La- oh, you
got a point.
You got a four o'clock quickie.
Yeah, I got a point in a second.
Go ahead. Real quick. Sheet is powered by FanDuel, you know that.
Home of the same game parlay,
make every moment more on FanDuel.
FanDuel proud to connect fans
to the major sports moments that mattered to them.
Zacharu, go quick,
because Wish has a very important phone call to make.
Yeah, you know.
This page just depends on it.
Yep, quickly here, I looked at FanDuel earlier today? They have an updated market for con smith winner still not
hoist
the Stanley Cup plus
1900 which would technically imply that someone on the losing team ie
Connor McDavid or Sam Bennett if the Florida Panthers lost, would win the Stanley Cup.
Do you think that there's any path here to the ConSmythe winner being on the losing team?
I'm a voter so I shouldn't be answering this whole answer anyway. I don't think there is
because I think what made it unique last year was his insane statistic season
being so far ahead of everybody else in points
and then and then not having a clear candidate as worthy as McDavid on the Panthers.
A. McDavid doesn't have the same point total. B. You've got three guys that could win it on the
Panthers. Yep, it's true. All right, you got a punt. I got a punt. Everybody in the chat. Hold on.
I gotta punch everybody in the chat, hold on. Wait, wait,-hour show for YouTube, but I'm not attached to anything
That was a fun show hey Do you have anything you want to add Zacheroo before we wrap things up here anything notable from today whether it's a Criator situation
Whether it's a Dan Muse presser whether it's a preview of game for anything
Roman I don't know I was I don't know why I was so upset that Roman Yossi wasn't on the list today even though you didn't
Have a good season. Just jarring not seeing Roman Yossi wasn't on the list today, even though he didn't have a few seasons.
It's just jarring not seeing Roman Yossi there today.
Anyway, anything you got on your mind?
No, just a home run by the NHL with the way that they're doing these awards.
They kind of followed in the footsteps of the NFL who does this, and this is the way
to do it.
They should do this every single year.
The other thing was just, I'm loving how long it's taking for this
Crider trade to go down. Like I'm sorry, I know that it's probably not that fun
for the people involved, but as somebody who's just on the outside and is an agent
of chaos, this is awesome. Okay, but here's the thing. Here's the thing about it, and
I don't disagree. Like it's fun and Greg and I had the what-if
conversation if at the end of it, you you know Chris Crider ends up not waving and all of this is for not.
This is how all trades go.
Like they're all drawn out.
Few are seldom just like one quick phone call then a call to the agent and chop chop it's
done.
Now things like that do happen on trade deadline but the process just isn't public.
That's all the process just isn't public. That's all. The process for
this. Like how many times when a player gets traded at the press
conferences you know they're asked about or the GM is asked about how long has
this been going on. It's like well you know we've been talking off and on for
six months. It really got heated up the last two weeks. But the thing is we just
don't see it. We just don't know about it. Right? Everyone sucks the lemon on it. The GM doesn't say anything. The agent doesn't say anything.
The player obviously doesn't say anything.
But this is kind of the way it... But we're just watching it play out in real time in front of our faces here.
It is kind of fun. Right?
Setting your watch by like, when's Chris Cryder gonna accept the trade?
And who's gonna go...
One final thing for you here. And I think you might disagree on this, but... when's Chris Kydre gonna accept the trade?
One final thing for you here, and I think you might disagree on this, but this is way
too much time off.
This is way too much time off.
Like I'm sorry.
Play every other day when you get to the city.
I respect and appreciate the travel, no issue there.
When you get to the city, play every other day.
They don't want to go up against basketball.
I understand it again like every like honestly Zach the one thing that you're
gonna get really good at doing is the same thing that I got really good at
doing and that everybody in the industry got really good at doing and you know
what that is accepting things no blaming television
okay television yeah if you want it if you want to answer for anything
just call you up TV yeah like if you're not sure about something if something's
screwed up or you don't like something clearly it's because of television yep
they don't want to they don't they don't want to compete against the the NBA
final like I get it I understand it It's part of a bigger conversation.
Again, like, if I had one wish every year for the NHL,
it's get your games out of June.
Yeah, agree with that 100%.
Whether that means starting earlier
and there's never been an appetite for that,
specifically from American owners,
because they don't want to compete against the NFL.
I understand that they don't want to compete against Major League Baseball in the fall.
I understand that too.
But and I know in the NHL we're running the other way.
We're looking at adding games, not removing games.
But whether it's quality of play, whether it's a health issue injury issue
To me hockey feels and again, this might just be because of my age. It just feels like a 70 game sport
to me yeah and
For most people I think it feels like this is this has gone on too long and and the other part of it is to
the end of the season it feels like
the last 12 bars
of bolero that is a dated reference are you revel fans and I don't audience
ok well go and go and go and listen to it with the rebels bolero it's kind of a
classic it's more about orchestration than a than a than a song but nonetheless
it's a beautiful piece of music it is that the end of the season just ends in
like this one big crash because you and thankfully now they take in the NHL out of it and they're doing it the way they're doing with the viral videos, which is great.
And I'm gonna guess that this is Steve Mayer's idea. That guy hits home runs.
Um, but it goes from like the Stanley Cup final to the draft to free agency, and nobody gets a chance to catch their breath.
At all. It's like
there's this like sprint sprint sprint sprint sprint sprint sprint sprint
sprint end to the season because the season itself is too long. My wish every
year is to get the games out of June and don't compete with Patios. Don't compete
with Patios. Fair enough. Anyhow, thanks to everyone in the chat today, thanks to
everyone watching on YouTube. MVSW week here on the sheet continues tomorrow

I went to the dark man
He tried to give me a little medicine
I'm like nah man that's fine
I'm not against those methods but I knew
It's me and myself and how this gon' be fixing my mind
I keep on the record
I turn down the music
I keep on the record
I turn on the music
It's turned up, down, down
And you're sometimes losing
Helping on the days that went wrong
