Okay, welcome once again to the sheet.
Hey, is it just me or are we starting to get Los Angeles Kings 2012 vibes off of the Carolina hurricanes?
We're going to get more to the Keynes over that as the show progresses, specifically towards the bottom of the hour.
But anyone else getting that?
They're just a machine.
They're the analytic starlings.
The combination of old school meets new school with the way Rodbendmore has this team playing a lot in straight lines,
not unlike Sutter to do with the Los Angeles Kings,
and they hit the playoffs running or skating and skating through teams.
And that's what we're seeing with the Carolina Hurricanes right now.
Now, of course, Zach, the difference is that Los Angeles Kings team barely got into the playoffs.
But then when they got there, they just like ripped through the Western Conference like a hog into truffles,
whereas the Carolina Hurricanes were the class of the Eastern Conference.
So I guess that's more than just a slight difference.
But holy smokes.
that was that was clinical and it wasn't even just like the goals and the final score and everything that impressed me most about the canes last night it was for the second game in a row the Philadelphia Flyers threw everything at Carolina everything came out hot we're on fire our crowd everything and unlike game two when Philly went up to goose fast Carolina was like we're fine with this no problem we know how we're
we're playing. We know, we know what to do. We know how to play. Just like a really mature,
like they're like a quiet assassin. Just like Philly was throwing everything at him last night.
And Carolina was like, yeah, we're good with this. We're just getting ready for another tweet from
Stormy at the end of the game. Stormy is warming up his thumbs. Getting ready for a big tweet here
at the end of the game. Going to take a shot of Gritty. And we're just going to get there. So just
don't worry about it. That was, that was incredible last night by Carolina. That was a fantastic.
performance.
Well, it felt like, in a way, the most it can against the hurricanes, I guess, the door was
open for the flyers to take control or take advantage, I should say, not control, of opportunities
that came up.
And they failed to.
Some of it had to do with Carolina's ability to recover and take away those secondary
chances, tertiary chances that were coming up for Philadelphia at any given moment.
But then it was like, the longer it went into that second period without the flyers,
being able to capitalize,
the more I just kept coming to the conclusion,
Carolina ain't losing this game.
It was one-one at that point in the second,
and it's like they're not losing this hockey game.
I keep going back to the Ottawa series
and the cutaway to Tim Stutzelaw on the bench,
and he's saying there's no room out there.
We can't move.
It's like so frustrating.
And you saw it boil over a few times
with the Philadelphia Flyers,
specifically at the end,
because, God, what an awful team that must be to play against,
especially when they're hitting on all cylinders like they were last night.
Holy smokes.
Okay, we got a big show today, and it's pretty newsy.
The blueprint is powered by Fanduel.
Download the app today and play your game on Fandil.
We are moments away from talking about all the news headlines.
And I sort of recap for the week as well with Dave Panyota, DFO Insider.
From the fourth period, he'll stop by here in a couple of moments.
The latest in Toronto, what does this look like now?
they've won the lottery and the first overall pick, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
We'll talk about GM searches in Vancouver and we'll talk about GM searches in Nashville as well.
Corey Lavalette will stop by from The Athletic, one of our favorites.
And I'll tell you why.
Now, when I think about Corey Lavalette now, I think about Jaws, the movie Jaws.
And I'll tell you in a couple of seconds here towards the bottom of the hour.
The Carolina Hurricanes remain undefeated and they look good.
In the meantime, I'll this bring Dave Panyoda aboard from the fourth period, DFO Insights,
and he's the guy that knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Dave, first of all, thanks
so much. It's been a busy week for you. I'm sure. I'm not sure how much Louis Vidal
luggage you're carrying around your eyes, but it's weeks like this where you earn the
business card, right? Yeah, I know. Trust me. I got the same. You earn the business card
on weeks like this. As we head into the weekend, before we look back at the week that was,
what do you think this weekend brings? Like, where do you, like, we're wondering about Vancouver.
I think we're still wondering about a few things about New Jersey
and wanting to go through a few things about Toronto
and Nashville is the search that will never end.
But anything we should be looking forward to this weekend specifically in your
Am I?
Like what are you most curious about here?
Well, Vancouver is running to the finish line right now.
And I think Evan Gold is in pretty good standing,
the AGM in Boston's for their GM role in Vancouver.
So I'm looking at that.
And to see where Vancouver's going, I know that the Maple Leafs are meeting with, or John Chaka and Matt Sundin are going to be meeting with Craig Burrubay over the weekend to map out what their whole plan is together and is it going to be together moving forward.
So I'm looking in that direction.
Nashville, you said it.
There's no plan this.
And for some reason, I think they've got their favorites, but they want to make sure everybody is on the same page there.
in terms of the decision making and bringing the right person in.
So those are the three that I'm definitely looking at in terms of the off-ice stuff going on right now,
where I think the next few days could lead to at least an announcement in Vancouver going into next week.
And then some clarity in Toronto with respect to who's going to be behind the bench
and will additional changes be made in both front offices.
I think there are going to be a few changes in the front offices in Vancouver and Toronto.
Toronto's already started slowly with Shane Dohn,
but we'll see kind of what happens in Vancouver as well.
I'm expecting a few.
I want to swing to Toronto here,
but one quick sort of,
and I keep sort of scratching my head about this one.
I understand why they're casting a wide net in Nashville.
It's a new ownership group,
and this is a great way to learn the landscape,
for lack of a better term,
for Bill Haslam's group there.
So I do understand why this is,
you know, the night of a thousand dances
with the Nashville Predators.
but when it comes to Vancouver
like
I'm a simple
I'm a simpleton
I'm a simple country lawyer
here Dave Panyota
maybe you can straighten me out
you're one of them fancy city guys
what's wrong with Ryan Johnson
like at the end of this
I keep saying like
Ryan Johnson like it just
it is hand to glove
it fits he goes back to
the Gillis era of this team
he's seen come go
win lose like
what am I
missing. I was just not Ryan Johnson to the tap in. Yeah, I thought as well. And I think he's,
as far as I know, it's Johnson, it's gold and it's yes in terms of final three. And I think
gold is ahead of the pack a little bit. Look, RJ would be Jim's guy, Rutherford's guy.
That's his decision. That's who he wants. But with French,
Francesco and Dax Aquilini part of this mix and trying to make sure everybody's on the same page.
That's kind of where we've gotten to.
We're at the finish line now, and it's a matter of who's going to be pulled across by the overall decision.
That coupled with, again, additional changes to front office.
I think we'll see some changes at the AGM level.
And I'm not fully convinced they're only making one addition yet.
I'm not fully convinced of that yet.
I could see them going the Toronto route in some respect in regards to bringing in a GM.
And in Toronto's case, it was a senior executive advisor, whatever title, maybe VP of Hockey Ops or something along those lines in Vancouver.
And maybe that's what they're trying to decipher.
But yeah, look, Ryan Johnson's the guy that I think Jim Rutherford is pushing.
But ownership wants to make sure they're on the same page along with the business side.
that this all kind of works out together.
And Gold's going to get a job at some point.
Is it going to be now in Vancouver or is you going to have to wait?
That's what I think they're figuring out over the weekend.
Pierre Dorian was the bell of the ball for a hot five minutes.
And now, again, like, I'm not there and I'm not in the room,
but it very much feels like there was a lot of pushback from the fans.
And like, am I reaching?
Am I stretching here?
Or is there something too?
Like, is this like a, they may have wanted to lean that direction,
but they saw the backlash from the fan base?
It definitely could have been.
I mean, you know, Pierre was in Montreal before going to Vancouver.
I don't know if he's doing stuff with the Canadians on the scouting side.
I don't know if you know that, but when I was there in round one,
he was at the games and with the rest of Montreal's scouting brass.
So he's still been involved in the NHL in some capacity.
clearly. And then
kind of jumped into the mix here with the Canucks.
And maybe this is a scenario
where, you know,
he got to a certain point of this race
and, you know, he's not at the
final three.
And I know Jim mentioned final five
earlier this week. So maybe he was part of that.
But it wouldn't shock me
if this is a scenario where as part of the
front office changes that they make, that they
bring Pierre in a different
capacity. Clearly not GM.
But is he an AGM?
Is he something else in that department?
I'm curious to see where that goes.
But you're right.
The public perception, the public backlash wasn't, I mean, it was backlash.
It wasn't positive.
So, you know, maybe the conducts, you know, took a look at that and went,
all right, we should probably go in a different direction here.
But I don't think that's going to necessarily stop them from the possibility of adding Pierre to the front office staff.
Let's swing to Toronto here.
So you mentioned, you know, trying to get everybody on the same page.
What's happening with the coach and the conversation with Austin Matthews.
Really like as you look back at the week that that John Chaker just had with not just the team, but the media, Steve Simmons specifically.
Winning the lottery the day after.
Like if you want to talk about like the absolute roller coaster.
Roller coaster like, yeah.
It's like I was saying on a morning show.
It was like a toilet seat at a stagging dough.
It's just up and down and up and down.
Like, nonstop all week long for John Shaker come up for a breath.
I don't even know if there's a question here.
I'm just going to like, Dave, what did you think of what happened this week?
What an analogy.
Wow.
Thanks, man.
Man, yeah.
University of Guelph.
Well done.
They, look, there's a lot that still needs to happen in Toronto.
right? The winning of the lottery was one thing and a big thing, obviously. But, you know, Austin Matthews, for example, isn't going to just sit there and go, okay, cool, now we can draft Gavin McKenna and all is well in Leafland. Because I agree. It's not. Yes. I agree. There's a lot. Yeah, there's a lot that still needs to happen. And, you know, Cheika mentioned on a few times during the press conference in the scrums afterwards on Monday that,
reshaping their defense is a priority.
And he said priority specifically.
So I'm expecting, you know, that to be kind of where they focus on next
in terms of any big potential type of shifts that they do to this to this roster.
I think there's going to be a conversation with Morgan Riley,
if that hasn't happened already, but I believe it's supposed to at some point.
Just to see where he's at.
I know he spoke with the prior regime in training.
at the end of last season,
they spoke again at camp.
His name was out there ahead of the deadline.
Obviously, new guys in place now.
But I think they're going to have that conversation there.
They've got to rejig their bottom six.
They've got to figure out goaltending
because with Hildebeek entering the mix full-time.
And then, yeah, the coaching stuff this weekend.
So there's a lot that still needs to happen in Toronto.
But with all of the hoopla that was tied to Sunday's,
news release and then Monday's press conference to the shiny new toy that is the first
overall pick that everybody's focused on. They got really lucky in that regard because not only
does that mean you're getting a hell of a player, but it took the attention away from some of
the negativity that was tied to the press conference on Monday and to the overall higher in general.
That's a great point. That's a great point. That washed it. Sorry I interrupt, but I just want to
pause on that because I think for everyone watching and listening, that is an excellent.
point because as miserable as that press conference was and uncomfortable as that press
conference was the next day watched it all the way and completely talk about like changing changing the
news cycle and changing the story ball number 12 did it yeah the vibe in the city went from doom
and gloom what the hell are we doing this organization is a joke and whatever other headline
this and that to holy crap first overall pick the team is saved we're in an amazing position we've got
McKenna, presumably that's who they're getting.
People already have, they already have
McKenna jerseys running around town.
I was saying, I was saying exactly, like the next
morning, my kid was skating here
in Stoville, had an 8 to 9 skate,
and 9 o'clock to 65 plus
beer leaguers were popping out.
And there's one guy who's got like the dark blue
Maple Leafs jersey and white tape.
He's got McKenna written on the name bar.
Like the next morning.
You know,
this is what's
interesting to me for this, for this situation.
now. Aside from the additional changes that have to happen and the eventual conversation,
I think after Barouba next week, I believe Cheka's going and maybe Sundin as well is going
to Scottsdale to meet up with Austin Matthews to have that conversation in person.
But with all of the hype around McKenna already, he's not even a leaf yet.
With the way that they're going to look at this and analyze and is it him, is it Stenberg?
whatever, from a marketing perspective, do they almost have to already go with Gavin McKenna?
Like, I'm curious how much, if any, because Keith Pelly said he's hands off.
Okay.
If you are.
Oh, excuse me, he's clearing my throat.
Are you influencing?
Yeah.
I know.
Are you going to influence the decision because of the business side of it?
the marketing side of it afterwards.
Yeah.
I would be shocked.
Hang on.
Because I think, again, like, that's another really good point that we should pause on.
The changing of the mood in Toronto, the changing of the conversation in Toronto, you always
want your fan base to be in a good mood when they're thinking about ticket renewals.
That's just the reality.
And right now, the Maple Leafs, you know, you can sell wins.
You can sell hope.
Right now you're selling hope for this team.
team.
And I really do wonder, like if Vancouver comes to them with a package for the first
overall pick, they want the West Coast, they want the, they want the guy from the West,
maybe the Maple Leafs are looking at Caleb Malhotra, could drop down to third,
could still get them, premium position, center iceman, not a winger.
But then I flip back to what you're talking about, and that is, there is, you know,
the greater good of the company,
which isn't just always a hockey decision.
It's also a marketing decision.
And right now,
the good news story is Gavin McKenna and first overall pick.
But if it makes more sense to pick up assets and trade down
and pick up a Caleb Malhotret number three and flip with Vancouver,
who makes that decision?
Yeah.
And how does that decision
then affect the captain's perception of their next,
at least the next two years.
There are a lot of other,
there are a lot of factors that are going to come into play here.
A lot more balls are going to drop or bounce or whatever.
They shut up to this whole overall equation.
It's not,
it should be pretty simple, but it's not.
And all of these decisions are going to have a bit of a domino effect.
You know, presumably you're going to see the first overall pick join their NHL club.
So in this case, the least, not a guarantee.
But, you know, there's the cell factor there from the marketability of it.
There's the self factor to your captain that this is probably who you're going to play with.
to the rest of the team.
It's going to affect, the draft will affect
how they approach any trades that they make,
free agency, all of that.
So it's all roses right now
that have covered up the soil,
the manure that was put on it.
So it looks good.
It is the spring.
Does it smell good yet?
Yeah, right.
I don't know.
And everything tied to Austin Matthews.
Like Austin has not told them, and I know there's reports out there.
I think some of the reporting has been a little misconstrued by the public.
I think the perception of the reporting has been kind of twisted a little bit publicly.
I could tell you with all certainty that, you know, Austin wants to win in Toronto,
wants to be here.
But if this team isn't primed in position,
is just like Evanton,
if they're not primed in position to do that now,
why are we wasting everybody's time?
If by July 15th,
they have McKenna,
they've rejigged the blue line,
they're more mobile,
they've found a legitimate 3C,
the fourth line's been fixed,
they understand where their goaltending is,
they feel they can be a team
that can compete in the playoffs,
in the Atlantic,
then everything is fine with Austin.
But if none of those boxes get checked beyond the first overall pick,
then that's a different discussion.
Can I be blunt?
Yep, please.
I don't know how you do that in 15 days.
Well, it's two months.
Really, it's now.
You got the first overall pick, so now you got to,
because I don't think, and you're right, I agree, you're 100% right,
which is why I'm saying you've got to make these moves,
you've got to start mapping these moves out now.
You can't afford to go to the draft
and not be ready to execute on some of your plan,
not be able to check off some of those additional boxes.
Because whatever Toronto does,
it's not going to be July 1 exclusively.
You have to make transactions to,
and by that, I mean, trades.
That's going to lead up to all that.
And that's what, and it's fair.
It's the same thing at Edmonton.
I know everyone's pinpointing Austin Matthews,
right now, but if the Oilers don't make any moves and don't improve going into next season,
going into the middle of July, well, Connor's going to sit there and go, what the hell are we doing?
What did I sign for two more years? I thought we were moving forward. I thought we were becoming
Stanley Cup contenders. And again, getting back to it and hopefully winning one. It's same,
same but a little different because Edmonton, if that's going to happen, then that's going to push
them to contender status for a cup. For Toronto next season, it's get back in the playoffs.
I really do wonder, I think we all do what's happening
behind the scenes in Edmondson right now.
I don't think that Connor McDavid and Leon Drysidal
say what they said
and I don't think that that would have fallen on deaf ears
to one person specifically.
Darrell Cates.
Yeah.
The owner of the team.
And that's why I firmly believe that,
like I'm not saying that they're going to go and trade Connor.
I'm not saying they're going to go and trade to Leon.
Like, I'm not, I'm not saying that.
But it does very much feel like the owner's not amused.
And that's being generous.
And so is it safe to say that everything's on the table?
In the grand scheme, yes.
I've said this for weeks.
I've said it on the show.
This is going to be the most important offseason in recent Oilers history.
because this is going to define
not just the next two years.
Since the Gretsky trade.
Since the Gretsky trade.
Yeah.
That's just what it is.
If they're going to go out
and they're going to get
Binnington or whomever in that,
they're going to get a new goalie.
They're going to move nurse.
They're going to bring in two other defensemen.
They're going to get a top six winger
that I believe they're trying to get.
And then all the other things that I've said.
And they're going to remold their bottom six.
If they make all of those changes,
you're convincing the captain, yeah, we're going for a cup, hands down this year.
You're convincing Leona the same thing.
They don't do that.
Again, same question in Toronto.
The hell are we doing this for?
And I think the owner in Edmonton is a little bit more hands-on emotionally than the corporate structure in Toronto.
I'm trying to word this as best I can.
If you're threading a very fine needle here, and I respect it.
I respect it.
But like, yeah, Darrell's hot.
He wants to.
He's hot about this.
He's pissed off.
He wants to win.
He wants this to happen.
And go do it.
And if you're not going to do it, then what the hell?
We're like, that's my captain.
Not we're treating the team like this.
Now we have no choice but to move in a different direction.
And that's not what the owner wants.
The thing is, too, and I think we're all looking at the,
putting on our Connor McDavid, Leon Dreissel, Dakota rings,
when they were saying what they were saying,
is it, were they talking about composition or coaching,
or were they talking about both?
I think, I think both.
I don't disagree.
I don't disagree at all.
I, I'm serious.
Like, that's why I say, like, are, is everything on the table here?
I agree with you.
Yeah, I agree.
I think so.
And we've talked about this before.
Or if you're making a coaching change, you're paying Chris Knoblock to sit on the sidelines for three years.
Cost of doing business.
If that's what, exactly, if you're doing that and then you're bringing in, let's say, for argument's sake, it's Bruce Cassidy.
First of all, Bruce is going to want to come and make sure all of those other holes are filled too.
But let's say for argument's sake, that happens.
I mean, Darrell's going to do it.
If that's the decision, if this was what's going to put us over the top, let's do it.
to be the message.
Because, yeah, yeah, like you said, he's pissed, he's frustrated.
He wants this team to win as much as anybody.
And I, again, I fully anticipate this being a very, very active summer for the Oilers,
more so than in Toronto.
Because, again, the mindset is Stanley Cup now in Edmonton.
In Toronto, it's back in the playoffs, then let's get to a cup.
But we got to take those steps.
Edmonton is it's cup or bust and it's cup or bust it's cup slash Connor or bust for the
oilers basically next season you want to think there there's always um there's always rooms that you
want to be in when conversations are had like for the longest time Brian Burke would always say
and this is when you know this is before MLSC looked like what it looks like now this is back in
the Larry Tannenbaum days.
Berkey would always tell me he said because we'd always bring
up like a second team in Toronto.
And Berkey would always say,
Jeff, I just want to be in the room.
I just want to be in the room
to see Larry Tanabom's face
when they say, we're bringing another team
to Toronto after writing
millions and millions of revenue
sharing checks for all of these years
that I want to be in the room.
Just to see Larry Tanabal,
I don't know if this name
has come up
at all, but I would love
to be in the room.
because in the spirit of because you have to do this as an exercise when you have a season like the oil this you have to talk about everything you have to talk about all of it Dave I want to be in the room to see if anybody brings up one name
Jay Woodcraft Jay Woodcroft
for it that would be ballsy but wow considering what we've just seen and I know
like the Vegas series and all that.
But like,
considering what have you just seen, Dave,
like would that,
that would have to be a conversation,
wouldn't it?
If you're making,
if you're convinced
you're going to make that change,
then I guess you have to have that you have to check your off.
It'd have to be a wild story.
That,
yeah,
that'd be more than a lot.
A man,
if it like,
you want to be in the room too,
just to hear the reaction.
If someone brings up the name.
I don't even need to be in there.
Just put a camera because I want to see reactions.
If I'm out, that's fine.
But I want to see him in the space.
And that happens.
I think it might be similar to some of the reactions when it was suggested that Paul
Coffey needed to return behind the bench.
I don't know if it would be that extreme.
It would cross.
But yeah, there was a lot of question marks about that one, too.
Absolutely.
there was. Like, I, um, I, I, the thing about the oldest coaching right now, I keep coming back
to this idea. Like, if they wanted Bruce Cassidy, it could be done by now. How come
it's not done? Again, I agree. The only thing that I, and I don't know this with, with certainty,
I'm just guessing, but if I'm, if I'm Bruce, I'm going, well, I need to see what this is
happening. I need to see what, sorry, I need to see what's going on. I can't just, you know,
similar to Connor and similar to Austin and Toronto.
I know your intentions are good,
but I want to see action.
And that's where I could see,
if there is hesitancy from Cassidy,
I could see it being because of that.
Fill up this roster, then I'm in.
Show me you're going to do this.
Then I'm in.
Because I don't want to commit.
And then we can't be half pregnant here.
You need to have all of it.
And then I'm in.
I can see that being a scenario.
there. Really quickly, I've got
Corey Lavalette stopping
by here in a couple of seconds, but I did want to
get a quick thought from you
on Sunny Mehta and the
New Jersey Devils, Sunny now starting
to round out his staff.
Yeah,
we know they made a couple
of changes. McKinnon and Fletcher out
within the organization. They're looking at
adding at least one AGM,
I believe, to the mix
there.
And then
And then roster decisions.
The one thing I can tell you, Anton Saleh,
if there is a deal in place for his ELC.
Just forever doesn't know.
Like, that's like the six foot one million guy,
the giant, the giant on the back end.
That guy's huge.
Yes, first roundback.
It was 10th overall, I think?
Yeah, he was a high first roundback.
Yeah, I think it was 9th.
Yeah, something like that.
Anton Solia.
A couple years ago.
Massive.
Yeah.
And he's in, he's in the K-HL.
He was sent down in the K to their HL equivalent.
And there are just a couple hoops that need to be hurtled over or through or whatever,
but expect him to come over.
So that's a little bit of business there that they've gotten presumably done.
It will be done, but it's there.
So that's good news.
But then they also have to firm up a few other things.
But in the front office, I believe it's, and I don't know who yet or where they're looking,
but I believe it's at least one AGM that they're going to bring on board there in Jersey
to firm up that front office staff.
Makes sense.
Dave is always great stuff.
I'm glad you enjoyed the idea of Jay Woodcroft going back to the Edmonton Oilers.
Wow.
I'm going to send some messages and see what kind of reactions I get there.
Just see.
Again.
From others around the league.
I just want to be in the room.
I just want to be in the room.
I just want to be in the room.
You're the best pal.
Have a great weekend.
We'll talk next week.
You got it.
You too, buddy.
See it.
There is.
Dave Panyota from the, from the DFO Insiders show Wednesdays year,
alongside Erfang Gafar on our DFO YouTube channel and also from the fourth period.
Okay.
You know why? I love Corey Lovellette.
I mentioned once that our second child is loosely based off a couple of my favorite characters from the movie Jaws.
Brody, Brody Quint.
I wanted Brody Quint, but, you know, I wasn't getting both.
And something shows up in the mail from Corey.
Let me get this in there.
Quince shark fishing Amity Island, Massachusetts, USA since 1975 when the movie came out.
And Corey Lavalette, if you think you can bribe your way back onto this show, you are 100% right, sir.
Great, I absolutely love this hat and the story that goes along with it.
You are as talented as you are kind and your heart is huge.
First of all, I open the show, and Corey, thanks so much for stopping by on this Friday afternoon.
I open the show by saying, I'll be honest with you, I'm kind of getting like Los Angeles Kings
2012 vibes off this Carolina team, like the goaltenders on fire, and that was, like, Jonathan Quicks,
like that was his command performance. He was the best goaltender in the world in 2012, specifically
in the playoffs. But just like how clinical those Los Angeles kings were. And A, they're the
analytics darling. Stop me if that sounds familiar. And two, they had an old school coach that
isn't shy about playing straight line aggressive hockey.
I know they're different situations because Carolina was, you know, top of the table and
the L.A. Kings just snuck into the playoffs.
But I really do see a lot of similarities between these two teams.
I don't know if you have a thought on that or just a thought in general what we're seeing
from this machine that is the Carolina Hurricanes.
We got the Justin Williams link too, right?
There you go.
L.A. and Carolina with Justin Williams, Mr. Game 7.
And even think about that.
That's why you're smarter than me, Cor.
And he's still, he's around.
He's at practice and sticking his head around, and he still lives in the, in Raleigh, so in the Raleigh area anyway.
Yeah, I mean, I think that's a great comparison.
I mean, this team is pretty, pretty dialed in right now.
And Rod's made the point several times.
They haven't really gotten much out of their top line yet, and they're 7 and 0.
And really, I mean, I think we could argue they haven't been in trouble yet, you know, obviously a couple overtime games.
but they really haven't been in trouble.
And it's a, they're playing the way that they want to play.
And it is, these two series have been almost identical.
I mean, the, I mean, the scores have been almost identical,
but just the way it's gone and the discourse coming into it.
And what the other team's fan base and media tend to think about the hurricanes.
And I think the hurricanes are showing a lot of people that there's more to them
then, you know, we're going to win the Corsi Cup and flame out after two rounds.
This team, they look, this is the most legit they've looked under Rod Brindamore.
If I can bring up another Jaws analogy here, it's like the conversation about the shark,
it's nature's perfect creature, it swims and it kills, it swims and it kills.
And that's the same vibe you get from these hurricanes.
Now, the interesting thing, too, and on Morning Cup of hockey, they're talking about, like,
How do you beat the hurricanes and Colby Cohen say,
like you have to have a superstar make a play, right?
Like the way that they play, like they strangle you.
Like it's like an anaconda.
Every time you take a breath, it gets tighter.
And then you take another breath and it gets tighter.
And you take another breath.
And it gets like that's, ugh.
And that's why you see like tempers boil over with the Ottawa senators.
That's why you saw, you know, Rustylane and yesterday going at Logan Stankhoven
in the dying seconds of the game.
I'm like they frustrate you to no end.
Now, the Florida Panthers last year, just to be blunt,
they bullied the Carolina hurricanes out of the building.
Like they just, I remember Matthew Kachak watching him like bark at Aho.
Like, we're going to do whatever we want to you and you can do nothing about it.
Watch.
And they just bullied them out of the ring.
So what's different this year about the hurricanes to you?
You've covered this team for a long time.
You know, it's funny.
I think the biggest difference might be is,
And I mentioned what other fan bases and media have thought coming into the series.
The biggest difference might be is people think you can go and push around Logan Stankhoven and Jackson Blake.
And that you can take advantage of the small guys.
And those might be the two feistyest guys on the entire roster.
And they don't back down.
You know, we saw Stancovin obviously tangled up with Ristolin.
And then Gostis Bear, not the biggest guy in the world, jumps in and throws Ristola.
wrist the line into the ice yeah um they got the guy by the way the guy that took his
spot in philadelphia let's not lose sight of that too yeah right right um and you know i
there are guys who are who are big and tough swetchnikov's a tough kid will carry a is like
right out of the movie 300 i mean you could like literally put him put him on the poster um those guys
are rugged and tough kiannre miller's a big boy but it's those it's it's those looks
little guys, they're feisty.
Seth Jarvis is feisty.
Ahos feisty, but I feel like that those two, and, you know, I'll be honest, I think Jackson
Blake wilted a little bit in last year's playoffs.
He was a rookie, so, you know, you, it's not a surprise, right, to see a young guy
not realizing the step that it takes when you go up around and you go against a team like
the Panthers.
But Stancoven, even last year, I mean, he went at it with Tom Wilson.
He is not scared of anything.
He's like, you know, the Mike Tyson version of a heavyweight,
the little guy that just gets inside, and he doesn't mind mixing it up.
And then Blake, you like that he stands up for himself.
He's not going to go and throw anybody around,
but he doesn't back away either.
And I think that's the big thing to me is you've got two guys that everyone thinks you can push around.
And as soon as you do, those guys are in the fight more than anyone.
I want to focus on Stancoven for a second.
just so all of our viewers and listeners have a sense of like how massive a deal this was from both sides,
from Carolina and Dallas as well.
So Tom Galardi is the owner of the Dallas Stars.
Tom Galardi also owns a Camloops plays with the Western Hockey League.
No surprise.
That's where Logan Stancovin went and here's why.
Growing up, Logan Stancovin and Tom Galardi's son, best friends played hockey all the way up.
I think Tom might have actually been on the bench as an assistant, not a head coach for some of the seasons.
He can check with Logan about this for some of the seasons growing up.
Like that's like these families are super close.
Like there were times, I'll tell you, there were times where I heard in Dallas around trade deadline time.
Like they'll have conversations about anybody, but Logan Stan Kovans off the table.
Like that one is very personal to the owner.
Dallas had to get him at the draft.
It had him in cam loops, obviously.
Like that was no fly zone.
No fly zone.
And I'm of the belief that that's why that trade on deadline two years ago.
took so long because Dallas did whatever they could.
Extra picks here, this type of this player.
I heard all kinds of names from the Dallas Stars prospect list.
But Eric Tulski was like, no, it's Logan Stankhoven or we're going somewhere else with the rantingan deal.
I can only imagine how difficult that was for Jim Nill to go to his owner and say,
if we want Rantan, it's got to be Stankhoven.
And boy, has that ever paid off large for the Carolina Hurricanes?
And I'll be honest, like, my hand is up.
I didn't think he was going to be this good as a center.
I thought, wang, yeah, sure, for sure.
Man, he's been incredible.
Like, there's only been a couple of times where I've been like,
oh, like there was a Tom Wilson hit where I'm like,
oh, you really got to protect with your shoulder coming around the net more,
especially when Tom Wilson is out there.
But he's been fantastic.
And now it's like a different level for Logan Stancovin, a totally different level.
Yeah.
Well, we're, you know, we're old guys.
You remember the old, like, inflatable toys that were, like, weighted with sand at the bottom and you punched them.
Yeah, of course, yeah.
Pop right back up.
That's punching d'nogh.
That's Logan Stankovin.
I've never seen a guy that pops up.
I mean, it doesn't have a long way to go to get back up.
But he pops up from everything.
I've never seen him even as much as grimace.
But, yeah, I mean, for sure, you're right.
I mean, the hurricanes were like, if we're doing this deal, it's for Logan Stankhoven.
And I think about the move to center.
And I remember when Rod took over, he was skeptical about moving Aho to center because of his size.
And Aho's, I think he's listed at six feet.
I think that might be a little generous.
But, you know, Aho's not the biggest guy, but Ajo, you know, his two-way play convinced Rod.
And I think, you know, they had a decision to make this summer.
The Kokea-Mi thing just, you know, hasn't worked out, obviously.
And they gave the kid a shot, and I'm telling you, he is, he's a pit bull.
And he scores from the, you know, between the circles endlessly.
I mean, it's not like he's taking shots from the outsides of the circles and picking corners.
He is in the middle of it at all times.
And he's relentless and Blake's the same way.
Those guys, I mean, they terrorize the other team.
You know, I talked to Jordan Martinuk the other day.
after Rod made the quick little switch and switched Martin Hook and Jarvis,
and it leads to the Jarvis goal that ties the game.
I said, I was just talking to him about, you know,
when Rod does those things, what's it like, et cetera.
And he's like, we have one line that you can't touch right now.
And it's that line.
I mean, it's Stancoven Blake and Hall.
And Stancoven's just such a huge part of it.
And, you know, he had a tough time this season, I think,
dealing with the puck just not going in.
But it never showed, you know, he never, it never showed in his play in, you know, in his effort, anything.
I think he was feeling it, but he didn't show it.
And then the puck started to go in.
And all of a sudden, it just keeps going in.
And Taylor Hall's been great for those two.
I think we're up to about, you know, 10% of the NHL fan base hating Taylor Hall right now between, I think we're up to Boston, Ottawa.
and Philly now.
But, yeah, I mean, just an amazing transformation.
Well, I don't even say transformation.
That line was good from the second they put it together.
But now that the hucks are going in, they've been the lights out.
I want to get to Taylor Hall here in a second because I've been making this point,
like what a second act this guy is having in his career.
This is the best we've seen Taylor Hall play since he won MVP.
But before we get there, one of the things that I really admire about this,
I love teams that sort of show you how they can fly in the face of common wisdom.
Like we look at the New Jersey Devils, and I'm talking about centers here.
So you look at the New Jersey Devils, and for the longest time now, the conversation has been,
you cannot succeed with small centers.
You can't have Jack Hughes and Deco Hesher.
You can have one or the other, but you can't have both.
And then we see Aho and we see Stankhoven, one two for the Carolina Hurricanes.
And the only place where I can draw a historical link towards an elite team with small centers
is that Montreal-Canadian's dynasty of the 70s,
where Jacques Lamar is like 5-10,
and Doug Jarvis is what, like 5-8, 5-9?
But other than that, the prevailing wisdom has always been,
you need size down the middle.
And here's Eric Tolstke-Rodbindomor saying,
nah, that's wrong.
No, that's wrong.
That's wrong.
We got A-O-Ns.
If you average it out on the top three centers,
you're probably all right,
because Jordan Stahl is...
Stahl is a hoarse.
He makes up for all of them.
But yeah, I mean, you know, they believe in what they're doing.
You know, they know that intensity and relentlessness is more, you know, want is more important than, you know, what you're, how you're built, right?
It helps.
I mean, I've always said, if Sebastian Ajo and Alexander Barkoff were the same size, they're probably the same player.
Like Barkoff is an elite shutdown dominant, dominant player because he's all of those things,
and he's big.
And Sebastian is just not blessed with size.
So, yeah, there's an advantage to being big.
There's no doubt about it.
But it doesn't have to limit what you are.
And those two guys, and they're both so ultra competitive.
This roster is just loaded with competitive guys.
And you mentioned, you know, Taylor Hall, too.
And I mean, that's a guy who's just bought in.
You got these guys who, it reminds me the 2006 team.
You know, Rod Brindamore talked about how, you know, they brought in Doug Wade.
They had Glenn Wesley.
They had Brett Hedekin.
You had all these guys who had played long, long careers and, you know, hadn't won.
And there was a feeling in the room of this is our chance.
And if we want to do it.
And Brindamore, obviously, at the top on that list.
And I, you know, I know there's young guys here and stuff, but there's a little.
lot of veterans here too and you get that feeling.
And it's early.
Let's, you know, I don't want to say let's put a crown on them yet.
But you get that feeling that there are enough guys here who have seen enough throughout
their career and have one last box to check.
Taylor Hall is certainly one of them.
And you get that vibe, things that, Freddie Anderson's one of them.
I mean, the postseason he's put together is ridiculous.
So, yeah, you know, I think, you know, the size of.
of the centers, it's something.
It's not everything.
No, not at all.
Quick thought on Freddie Anderson here.
The one thing that we're all sort of like, okay, it's great, it's awesome.
Look at this, what a performance.
Are we going to see the emergence of the hospital bracelet, though?
Like, I think, like, that's, like, the only thing that you wonder about Freddie Anderson.
You just don't know, like, any crease crash, you cross your fingers.
And you hold your breath.
And you hope that he's okay.
So one of the ways I think you judge great teams is when they have a chance to end a series, they end it.
Up three Cobb right now against the Philadelphia Flyers game four again in Philadelphia.
I don't think it would surprise anybody if this is back-to-back sweeps.
This team just seems to have that mentality.
We are not going to squander games.
We are here for business and business alone.
Like that thing could have got stupid last night, like really, really dumb.
But Carolina is like, no, we're not going to.
We're not, we're not, we're not, we're not, we're going to let, we're here to do business.
And we're getting right now, we're going back to the hotel and we're going to sleep.
And then we're going to come back and do business in game four.
Like this is a really mature team that way.
Yeah.
And, you know, Tuckett said it, talk it said it before game three is like, well, is it a must win?
No, because we get four losses.
But he's like, it's pretty hard to come back from 3-0.
And you could see the frustration boiling over, uh, with the flyer.
for sure. I mean, Zegris, obviously,
has lost his cool a bit.
Tocke lost his cool with Zegris.
And the hurricanes are just, you know,
we saw Kianre Miller just kind of laughing
at Travis Kineckney last night. Like,
okay, kid, like, you know, we got one
more of these and we'll see where it goes.
But I was joking today with some of the other
Carolina media guys that maybe
it's the best thing to do is just to lose tomorrow.
Just to get that out of the way,
because all anyone's going to talk about is how they haven't
lost. But I think,
you're right i think you know they want to step on a neck here and and kind of finish this off and
we're looking at another really long break which i don't mind so much but um you know those are tough
but those those are tough but you mentioned you know frederick anderson is is going to benefit from
totally you know bonus having a little downtime you know and uh you know we've got a couple guys that
aren't 100 percent that's every team in the in the playoffs but uh the rest versus rust thing is always a
thing, but we saw the way they came out in this series, and they didn't seem to have any
problem jumping right back into fifth gear. So, you know, we'll see what happens tomorrow,
but Philly's got a tall order here just to get, just to get one, forget about getting four.
Yeah.
You know, the hurricane, you know, they missed Noa Cates a lot. He's a really good player.
DeVorex not right. Sanheim, I think, is banged up. He's, he got hit hard a couple times in
this series. And then Tip, it hasn't been around at all.
take a team that's struggling to score and then you take away their best goal score.
The Flyers have a bright future.
I like Porter Martone I thought was great last night.
It may have been their best forward.
Yep.
But, you know, this is a lesson.
This is a, you know, a little bit of a lesson, the senior in high school telling the freshman,
like you got a couple more steps before you're ready to come up and be a senior with us.
Put a leash on that puppy.
Put a leash on that puppy.
Okay, let me close on this.
I think there still needs to be a couple of more awards in the NHL.
I like a comeback player of the year award.
I also like, we have the Rock of Richard for most goals.
I do like the idea of having, call it the Gretzky,
whatever you want to call the Adam Oates for assists.
And there's another one that I would like to present to you for your consideration,
Corey Lavlett, Best Social Media Feed.
I would submit to them.
I would submit Stormy the Pig.
Now, is Stormy the pig the same person that does the Carolina Hurricanes feed?
Or do they split it?
Or do you even know?
I don't know.
This could be an off day story, by the way, if you guys, if the Carolina Hurricanes.
Yeah, right.
Here's an off day story for you.
I'm not sure Stormy has thumbs, so at least the drawn version.
So someone's got to be doing it.
Right, of course.
Yeah, yeah.
Pretty awesome, eh?
you were going to go the, I thought you were going the Jacobs-Slaven defensive defensemen are out here for a second.
I do think, much like they named the Selke for Bob Ganey, like, we got to create an award for Bob.
I think there needs to be some way to recognize the greatness it is Jacob Slavin that can't be captured with the box car numbers.
I do think that too.
Yeah.
But anyway, getting back to throwing the-
thing.
Yeah, let's get back to the pig.
Let's start me the pig here.
Like, let's not forget.
who had
who had the hurricane's mascot
being the one being talked about
in this series right
just going like like welcome to hell
to Greg this is like this is
this is really impressive here
there's a there's a sort of element
of like Ali going at Foreman
in Zaire like what are you doing
like Foreman's a killer
and you know
Ali had been through a ton of fights already
I was like what are you doing like
this guy's destroying you see what he did to Joe Lewis
or Joe Frazier like
what are you doing here, Muhammad?
There is that sort of element of like,
screw it, I'm going after like the top dog mascot.
I love it.
Yeah.
I mean, their social media does a great job all around.
McKenzie does an amazing job running the regular feed and, you know, being.
It's awesome.
Being tough and being fun and, you know, it's entertainment, right?
So let's be entertained, I guess.
The library tweet yesterday.
Oh, yeah.
to Philly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right, right.
Philly.
You know, this was such a weird series for me, and it was weird going into last night.
I talked to a few people about it, about Rod is still just beloved there, just absolutely
adored by the Philly fans.
They still just love him.
What a weird.
There are not too many people who can walk in to Philadelphia as an opposing player or coach
and be revered.
The player thing's a little easier.
How do you go this long?
You know, we're talking, we're, you know, we're 25 years removed from him being a flyer almost.
And they still just love Rod.
And, you know, they would, I think it's a fun dynamic, the social media stuff.
And the hurricanes are obviously feeling, feeling pretty good about it.
They, ever since the bunch of jerks done Cherry stuff, they've always loved to jump at an opportunity.
They've stepped it up.
Yep, it's really great.
It's so much fun.
It's a nice sidebar to all the action,
which might just come to an end in game four here.
Corey, two things.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
and this hat is the first star.
Don't know where you got it.
Don't know where you found it, but bless you for it, man.
You're the best.
Corey, thank you, Paul.
We'll talk soon.
Take care, buddy.
There is Corey Lavalette from the Athletic in the North State Journal.
What do we got still here today?
We got a few things, but I want to get your thoughts, Zach,
on Carolina Hurricane's social media.
And here's another analogy.
I'll draw to those damn Los Angeles Kings from 2012.
Their social media,
I think they were the first ones to really jump out there
and go for it and get in your face
and wasn't just score updates
and here's our first star.
I wasn't just like, let's shine the team,
but to have a little bite to what they were doing.
And right now no one's biting harder.
No one's biting harder.
and harder than the Carolina hurricanes.
Well, was it
2012 when you and Greg
I'm going to say you guys lump you
together on this, but you got in trouble.
Greg got in trouble with the L.A. Kings
trouble loosely.
San Jose Sharks.
Oh, was it San Jose.
San Jose.
Oh, was it L.A.
No, I think it was the Sharks.
Yeah, I ended up taking a pie in the face
at Seder ice. Good on, Greg, for going
for it. I always respected that.
You should.
have fun on social media that's what it's like that's what it should be sports are fun it's fun let's
have fun like let's talk some shit let's have fun and piss some people off along the way that's what
it's all about the library tweet there was some funny ones along the way and i saw the canes account
posted uh the photo of kianj miller zoomed in when he's getting headlocked smiling smiling
it's all funny the library tweet was the one that's like this is the by far the best the canes bench and
just however many Flyers fans in the four sections it spanned across with dog face looking at
the ice and it said the best library Philadelphia's newest library and you know that they're just
going nuts the Flyers fans who are normally loud and rowdy and as I as I coined them before
the playoffs started and I say lovingly scumbags.
they're sitting there looking at that going,
damn it,
we got caught.
Why can't we be winning right now
and why can't Grady be tweeting like this?
But then it just like makes like you have like.
No,
you Muppet reject.
That was the nice.
That was a nice touch.
And then he comes back with like the roasting of the
roasting of the pig rink side.
It's like it's when you're losing,
it's tough.
It's like
I gotta give it
I can't believe I'm talking like this about hockey right now
But here I am
I'm giving this one to Stormy
Right now Stormy's winning
Okay I should have grabbed this one
I just remembered it
Stormy tweeted a photo of gritty
It's nothing outrageous
It's just a normal photo of gritty
Just a carrot one?
It looks like a fat carrot that grew mold
Just going at the champ
It's hard
Yeah
If you don't know what we're talking about
Do yourself the favor of checking out of the social media
The Carolina Hurricanes
Their mascot Stormy
And also Gritties
Carolina is not just winning on the ice
Not just winning on the ice
Dominating gritty off the ice
Dominating
Just starching them
Oh my God
Do you ever thought anything Dave and I
talked about
whether it's your Toronto Maple Leafs or the Vancouver Canucks.
I still don't know how it's not Ryan Johnson.
I've said it from day freaking one.
How this isn't Ryan Johnson is beyond me,
but we'll see where this one ends up or Nashville or New Jersey or anything you want.
Anything on your mind?
He said thinking that you're probably thinking about blue and white.
No, well, I have a thought on why it's not Ryan Johnson.
Okay.
And it's one name.
It's a family name, actually, in Vancouver.
That makes me think that it's the reason that it wouldn't be.
AQ?
AQ?
That would be the one.
No, but don't forget.
Like, Dax Aco Laini is part of this process, too.
Like, not just Francesca.
Like, Dax Aqualini is part of this as well.
So, again, like, I just don't see a way where it's not him.
It's just, I just wonder if the delay is that it's not their guy.
And they need to be sold on it because it's not.
their guy that and when I say their guy I'm well aware Ryan Johnson's being in the organization
he's being around so it's not like they're unfamiliar but it's not the guy that they goes back to
mike Gillis goes back to Mike Gillis goes back to Mike Gillis yeah I know I agree with you I understand
fan base loves them if it's them championship in Abbotsford yeah I just wonder if that's them being
like well we we weren't the ones who said let's get this guy so that's where the hesitation is
especially knowing that JR is, which also all-time funny way to announce your departure, let's say,
lose the draft lottery.
I will be stepping away from the process following draft.
I really wonder if they try to entice the Maple Leafs for the first overall pick.
That's for another conversation.
Anything we want to get to your making us rich segment here in a couple of seconds,
but anything else from sort of news of the day or maybe just a thought on the week that was.
Like there was as much off the ice as there was on and all the stuff on the ice was outstanding too.
And I'm really curious about what happens between the Montreal Caneans if we see a different Habs team facing off against the Buffalo Sabres tonight to see nothing of the Anaheim ducks who have been the better team in two games against a Vegas golden nights.
But that series sips back to the Honda Center tied at ones.
Anything from this week jump out at you, Zacharoo.
Yeah, the one you just mentioned, I know it's kind of a cop-book because you did just bring.
it up but the one thing I keep thinking about is before the series started you and I talked about
more or less what it would take for Anaheim to win that series and the comment that you made
I'm going to paraphrase I don't want to get you in trouble but was more along the lines of you know
does Carter Hart win the game for the Anaheim ducks and that would be something that helps them
it's been the opposite and it's still one-one and it probably could be too nothing if not
Carter Hart won the game, one game one for them.
Make no mistake about it.
I'll tell you what, if playoffs always produce emerging stars,
if the Anaheim Ducks knock off the Vegas goal of the Knights,
you're going to hear a lot about Leo Carlson.
He's been unbelievable.
To the point, what did I wish I talked about yesterday?
Who would you rather have Leo Carlson or Connor Bardard?
Yeah.
Yeah, and Alec Martinez,
Morning Cup of Hockey said that Leo Carlson
reminds him of Anzacopatar, watch him play,
watch him, he's gotten to see both of those guys play a lot,
and that was the comparison.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, he's been, he's been dominant.
I just keep finding it interesting.
Two teams with speed here now
have made life really difficult for the Vegas Golden Knights.
It wasn't enough in the Utah series
for the mammoth to take them down,
but on a team with a little bit more,
veterans that have kind of been there done that in guys like Kreider and Truba and
I mean, Grudis isn't playing right now, but you know, there's probably some that I'm even
glossing over, John Carlson in that mix there in Anaheim as well.
I wonder if it's just going to, Calorn, thank you.
I wonder if it's just going to be like, hey, with all this speed and these guys to kind of
tame things, tame emotions within the Anaheim locker room and a guy behind the bench and
Q and that secret weapon
Jay Woodcroft
if it's just going to be too much for Vegas here
how much did you like that
how much you like that idea of like
Edmonton bringing back Woodcroft
that's juicy eh
I'm not saying it happens
listen I'm not saying it happens but a girl can dream
right it's a Friday afternoon and a girl can dream
I just I just imagine them sitting there
and throwing out ideas about how to change this thing
and someone says well
you know
Jay Woodcroft
Now the room goes quiet
To turn it to a library
And to steal from stormy
Everyone just looks at the owner
Or looks at Stan
You know it's like one of these like
Okay I'm gonna I'm gonna
Everyone's got Q cards
And I want you to write down all your ideas
And you don't have to sign your name to them
Then we're gonna put them all in a box
And I'll just draw them out
And I'll read everybody so no one has to be responsible
For any of the ideas
I would do that so often if I was a general manager
because teams people can get so shy about not wanting to present an idea
that ultimately would benefit the team for fear of what the reaction will be.
I would do a ton of just write down your ideas on a blank piece of paper.
Well, I'll put them in a box, then I'll bring them out and I'll read them in front of everybody.
That's the only way.
Honestly, that's like the wisest way to do it because you would have to have the conversation
about like all the coaches that are out there.
But is anyone
gutsy enough
to say that name in a room?
Yeah, I don't know.
It would,
that reaction from Edmonton Brass
would be enough for me to want cameras in there
to pay an outrageous amount just to see what happened.
That's your behind this.
There you go,
That's how you do it.
You want to do like a behind the scenes life in the NHL?
It's not just like, oh, we're going shopping for Christmas trees.
This will be fun with Matt Zerkebrile.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Two things.
Take us inside an arbitration hearing.
And then be in the Edmonton room when someone brings up to your woodcraft.
That would be awesome.
Hey, thanks, Oilers, for that behind the scenes footage of the trade for Jason Dickinson.
Really appreciated the insight and all that kind of stuff.
quite frankly, I don't give a shit anymore.
You're going to have to up that game because we've got something else here we want to see.

As we've been mentioning, two games on the board this evening starts at 7 o'clock Eastern with the Montreal Canes looking to even their series against the Buffalo Sabres. Sabres looking to take a 2-0 series lead heading back to the Bell Center.
Vegas Gold and Knights and the Anaheim Ducks as we've been talking about are split at once.
It probably should be two Cobb for the Anaheim Ducks, but nonetheless, the quack are back at home tonight.
And in that spirit, our man, Zacharello, Matt's Zacharyllo.

Matt Zackerello, I kind of like that.
Where the fuck did that come from?
That was awesome.
I don't know.
So we had a discussion on Off the Roste this morning about what my name is,
and you know you've called me this,
and people in the chat call me it as well, Philly.
Zach Roo.
Oh, Philly.
You've had that your whole life.
Yeah, how all called me.
Yeah, some of my buddies recently started calling me Z.
So that was something that's gotten added into the list.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you insured a lot of like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
Often confuse you too.
Alberga calls me Nikita Filetov, taking the Phil.
Oh, was he a fourth overall pick?
Man, he drove Doug McLean crazy.
Yeah, hang on.
as we both go to type.
We're both doing the exact same thing.
He drove him sixth overall by the blue jackets in 2008.
Oh, my, I had forgotten all about Nikita Filatoff.
Oh, man, do I have some stories about him.
Anyhow.
No, it was about Jerdev.
Jardev and Philotov.
Those are the pair for Doug.
Anyhow.
What are we doing today?
How are you making everybody rich for the weekend?
Well, it's, it's Leafs-related, surprisingly, Jack.
Shockingly.
How is it Leafs-related?
They're not playing.
Don't worry.
Okay, this is going to be a stretch.
Here we go, all right.
Because, you know, one of the things that's been coming up here is Matt Sundeen and his
connection to Sweden and therefore his connection to Stenberg.
Connection to Sweden.
I like that.
Swedish.
So, yeah, I was trying to.
What's your connection to Canada?
Well, Canadian.
Yeah.
He's Swedish, his connection to Stenberg, therefore.
Okay, all right.
Okay, very good.
Get the conversations going.
Does the Swede want to take Stenberg?
Does he want to pass on McKenna?
Could you see, as you pointed out throughout the show here tonight,
could you see the Canucks get horny for that first overall pick and they want to get in there?
Maybe.
Well, you know what, Jeff?
Hmm.
No matter who it is, whoever's the shiny new toy is neither.
here nor there the fact that something is coming makes leifs fans hurt a little less so we got
hurtle we got new hook and i'm not sure what the third would be uh i don't know what is it what is it
josh nor uh josh nor is buffalo sales uh Alex new hook Josh nor is Tomash hurtle five
brings your home 526 smackers and 52 cents.
Fan duel.
That's a pretty good one.
Five bucks.
Thank you.
I was wondering where you're going to go with that one.
I'm like, where is Zacharoo doing here?
Anyway, we remind you as always,
she is powered by Fanduel.
Play your game right here on Fanduel.
Download the Fandual
sports book and as we like to say play your game to be games tonight to get involved in.
Final thoughts on the week, Matt's Zacharillo.
I'll stop saying that.
I'm just amused with myself.
It's all right.
Can throw that one in there, although Philotop is pretty good too.
Final thought on the week, though, was we had draft lottery.
We had Steve Simmons barking at Keith Pelly.
That was something.
A fun and to be honest with you, easy week for me as a producer across either off the
roster.
Yeah, that's a good point.
There was a lot of content for us, whether it was the games or off-ice stuff.
There was a lot.
Hey, Wosinski was on roster today.
Did Lindsay ask about hobo?
Yes.
How to go.
How to go.
Greg started dying, laughing and telling us the story about how it took it.
I didn't realize how long it was.
He said it took him a year to figure out.
Yeah.
It was years.
It was years.
Yeah.
Yeah, he didn't know it was a dog.
To figure out that it was a dog.
Actually.
I didn't know that.
Here's one.
There is someone we talked about today on the show.
He brought that up.
He did, eh?
Damn it.
Rob J. Woodcroft was on the Louisobo once?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
I'm all other ideas then.
Good on Lindsay for Alston.
He talked about that.
It was good.
Greg was great on there.
He talked about his Darth Vader behind him as well.
So we kind of went all different directions on off the roster.
Shocking.
It was a fun show.
It was a fun week of shows across off the roster and the sheet.
Make sure everyone subscribes to both here on Daily Faceoff and Offerostr YouTube channel.
But yeah, I mean, look, the hockey has been really entertaining.
Has it maybe been as good as the first round, Jeff?
I will concede.
Maybe not quite because they're maybe not as fresh.
So you've got me there.
But still, I've been thoroughly entertained.
First rounds is Stanley Cup.
First rounds is Stanley Cup.
That's it.
Like, that's my Stanley Cup.
As someone that just wants to watch.
Tuesday night was my Stanley Cup.
Yes, it was.
Yes, and Maple Leafs fans all of a sudden,
the place just went from like the darkest cloud
to the brightest sun of this.
It was like an azure sky of deep summer
for Toronto Maple Leafs fans is what it became.
I'll stop now.
Pretentious.
Pretentious.
All right, Zach, you have a great weekend.
Enjoy yourself.
I have a feeling you'll be watching a lot of hockey.
Shocking.
All right, thanks everyone for watching.
Thanks everyone for listening.
Thanks to Corey Lavalette for stopping by.
Thanks to Dave Panyoda, who stops by here on Fridays for putting up with goofy stuff.
And some great information from Dave as always.

We're back Monday, 1 o'clock Eastern for the sheet.
As the playoffs continue through the weekend,
I want to mention, too,
CHL playoffs continue.
Game two between Barry and Kitchener.
Kitchener leading that series 1-0.
We've got to, oh, look at that.
We've got the Prince Albert Raiders
facing off against the Everett Silver Tips.
That one, game one tonight.
We have Moncton facing off against Chakoucun.
to me, that should be a bangor.
She could have me so good.
But man, Moncton.
That kicks off tonight as well.
And then as I mentioned, the Barry Colts taking on.
Nice shot of Kashan Acheson there.
Who's that young fella in Green on the left?
Kitchen Rangers leading that series won nothing.
So enjoy it.
CHL playoffs.
Continue starting tonight.
And through the weekend.
Thanks for joining me.
Back Monday, one o'clock.
Talk, good night.
I went to the
