Hey Zach, I'm gonna summon Zach early today.
I'm gonna bring on him right away.
Because essentially, whether he knows it or not today, he's steering the ship.
Today Zach, your job is to keep this thing on the rails.
I realized, man, I was really sloppy yesterday and just blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Next thing I know it's like
90 minutes later.
But you have the wrong like producer for that I think.
Because I do the same. Like I have everything, we're ready to go. Every single thing we wanna do.
Okay, your job to keep this one focused. We're gonna really try to keep this one tight and bright
and respect everybody's time.
So one of my favorite things to do right before we go
on the show is read the comments in the chat.
And yeah, many of you have caught me while we're doing
the show watching on YouTube and you're like,
Merrick can't stop reading the chat.
And it's true, because because chats so much fun.
Chats awesome but in the chat today Tom Allen can't stop seeing triangles TJ
Ayash triangles everywhere what did we talk about yesterday Zach?
A lot of triangles. A lot of triangles we showed Max Luccarello and I got a lot of
tweets about Jonathan Taves saying, Jonathan
Taves, tut tut.
He's been doing that for years.
Hopefully we'll see him do it again next year somewhere, on some team in the NHL.
It seems skating.
So if you are watching Vancouver and Calgary, and I want to get to Conor's area here in
a couple of moments, welcome to the show by the way.
Bad Host should, you know, I should always welcome people to a program. Thanks so much for your continued
patronage and attention. If you're a Triangle Watcher, like we
are here around these parts, you saw two of them
in the shootout yesterday. And as we swore to document
the most mundane things in the NHL on a daily basis,
we're going to show you the Triangle Goals. Which one you want to start with,
producers?
Oh, here we go.
Here's Jonathan Huberto.
Hey, look, it's five hole.
Well, actually, that's triangle.
It's not.
That's not five hole, that's triangle.
All right, Jonathan Huberto.
Not to be outdone by the suddenly resurgent
Elias Pettersson.
Has he woken up Zack Phillips?
Here he is in the shootout.
Have a look at this.
And again, it's a left-hand shot.
He's going five-hole, right?
That's Triangle.
Watch the right skate, folks.
Watch the right skate.
Yeah, you know it.
Let's have a look.
There's that triangle.
Is open on Dustin Wolf.
Yeah, he knows it.
Ah, Triangle there. Talking about that on the sheet and there it was and I left it exposed and Peterson hit it
There we go two triangles last night
Yeah, we got tweets about them right away
Jeremiah Maxwell tweeted at us. It's good immediately. It's good
I was we could make it's our goal to make anything semi interesting here on the program
And you know what?
I think one of the hardest things we're going to probably do is try to make mundane boring pa announcers interesting
Because I do have a love for them. I think you do as well
Yes, this is the goal of the show now. Um also in that game yesterday a great hit by another peterson
Um, also in that game yesterday, a great hit by another Pederson, Elias Pederson, Elias Pederson. Sorry. Jeez. Poor John Shorthouse. Um, Elias Pederson catches Nazem Kadri. Great hit. Connor
Zeri goes after him. Elbow is high. Pederson leaves. Hearing today, Department of Player Safety,
leaves hearing today Department of Player Safety with Connor Zeri and I think at least maybe a games worth is gonna depend on the nature of the injury
I don't know if we have it handy or not but I think like I think I think one game
is gonna depend on whether whether Patterson is is hurt whether he's injured whether he's gonna miss games, but
To me this one looks
Sounds walks talks like a two-gamer and if there's an injury, I don't free
I don't like the waiting to see if there's an injury
I do because you could do the same hit and it and it doesn't result in an injury
Why is that any different?
Think it think in legal terms.
Think like I know it's it's it's not even apples and oranges
as chalk and cheese.
But I think if there's it I think if there is an injury,
I mean even if you didn't intend to injure the player if
there is an injury, I think that does need to be another
another log on the fire like I'm not saying like double it
by any stretch.
Although throwing in one game if it's two, I almost are doubling it.
Doubled it.
Yeah.
But again, I'm doing this like the rest of you guys are.
Like, okay, what's the precedent?
What's the nature of the hit?
It was instant revenge, right?
He just saw his teammate get crushed
by a really good defenseman, by the way.
He's like, and everyone at Vancouver's like, pay attention to this guy because he's really good and he has
been fantastic and it was like right away like instant revenge it was emotion,
distance traveled, it wasn't like in the middle of a scrum where something
happened like he had to skate to leap up and attack Pedersen so this one's got
two-gamer written all over it for me. For me, maybe if there's an injury, we're looking at three.
Again, we'll see what happens.
Hearing is today, we'll see how that one goes.
All right, coming up on today's program,
Daily Outlines, presented by our friends and partners
at FanDuel, North America's number one sportsbook app
provider, Troy Smith is gonna stop by.
Troy was on the show early, when did we have Troy?
Was it December?
Maybe January?
First week of the show.
First week of the show, wow, is he that important?
Geez, Smitty.
I think the third or fourth show.
Holy smokes.
Smitty, you're important.
You're gonna have to widen the door frames
to fit your head in.
Look at you, Troy Smith will drop by.
We'll talk about the Winnipeg Jets power play
and why it is just flat out so much fun to watch.
Brandon Montour.
Gonna break down this one with Smitty.
By the way, Smitty's from Hockey IQ.
Follow him on Instagram, follow him on Twitter.
He's a coach, coach teams like the Kitchen Rangers.
Worked a long time with Pete DeBoer and Steve Spod,
et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
So we'll talk about Brandon Montour as well
and that overtime goal and how that happened, where the breakdown was.
Triangles again, yes it's gonna be in the rundown every time we see them and we
highlighted a couple off the top so more with the shooting at triangles here on
the program. We do have some emails the sheet at the nationnetwork.com we will
get to some of those and oh yeah some NHL
changes. This one's an interesting one because Connor McGehee from the Colorado
Avalanche broadcast put out the tweet essentially and highlighted a couple of
rule changes he'd like to see and so I threw a few down myself and put it out
to you and said fill in the blank what would you like to see changed in the NHL as far as the on ice product goes and we
will do it here on the program. Okay you're leading I'm following. What you
got today Philly? Do you want to do the... Don't ask me don't ask me tell me
here's what we're doing. Okay here's what we're doing. Alright. We're gonna start
with because we talked about Scott Lawton yesterday and then I want to let Tell me, here's what we're doing. Okay, here's what we're doing. All right. We're gonna start with,
because we talked about Scott Lawton yesterday,
and then I wanna let Smitty come on after that
and do the Montour and all that kind of stuff.
And the more important things are him.
Let's do the Tom Wilson, Ryan Strowman interaction.
I thought it was unreal.
I mean, we've talked about it.
It was more, it was funnier to me
because of like how much we've talked about Tom Wilson
and like the enigma of Tom Wilson and then Scott Lawton fighting him, which we did yesterday.
And then this Strom miked up clip comes out if you want to watch this one.
So this is from the Anaheim Washington game a couple nights ago.
This is Tom Wilson just chatting up Ryan Strom.
Enjoy.
Hi guys, Nick Nespoido and I'm speeding up lights.
I think it's a toe pick. Stroom enjoy. Hi guys, Nick, this is Waddle and I'm speeding up ice.
I think it's a toe pick.
What, I'm hot this year.
Most goal scorers get those balls, Stroom.
Oh, come on.
Tommy, if you want to go center ice,
I've been waiting my whole career for one.
Oh, yeah.
Hey, before you see that one.
Yeah?
Oh, we got to do it.
No.
I'd like to see it right now, Ryan.
Hey, you gotta put one hand behind your back.
Here's the chance, Ryan. Hey, you gotta f-ing put one hand behind your back. Here's your chance.
I'm not that stupid.
I'm not that stupid.
The ending. I'm not that stupid.
I'm not that stupid.
So that's really cool.
By the way, did you notice who the official was?
No, who was that?
Three old school folks.
That is Carter Sandlack, the son of Jim Sandlack.
Hey Vancouver Canucks, I'm looking in your direction.
So second generation hockey player, now hockey official,
Carter Sandlack there with that one.
Now, here's the point I wanna make about this.
And we've all seen these, you know, miked up moments.
Some can get a little salty. Let's be honest, they're not all PG. Some can get pretty salty. You know Brian
Bellows knows that. There was actually another one a really good one you can
find on YouTube is for all you Alberta hockey fans Tim Hunter and Dave
Semenko or and yeah it was no Dave Brown sorry Dave Brown. Tim Hunter and Dave
Brown from the old Battle of Alberta days is a particularly spicy one.
But here's my thought on it. It's so wonderful for fans to see and get that glimpse and get an eyeball and an earful of what the guys are saying on the ice.
Here is my big proposal to the NHL Philly.
And we'll get to Troy Smith on this one. He's been behind a bench and he's heard some salty things too,
and I'll gauge his reaction to what I'm gonna propose.
How about this?
I don't know if this is subscription-based or not.
I don't know. That's for taller foreheads than mine to figure out.
How about the NHL offers, for every game they offer two games.
Like you could watch Washington and Anaheim live without the mic'd up
moments. Then maybe you pay an extra five bucks a month for the whole NHL
package. You can watch the game afterwards afterwards but the players mic'd up.
Okay I'm gonna say the players are gonna say no to that right away and the players are gonna say no to that.
Come on hang on hang on this is all gonna go to HRR swear to your heart's
content it's only gonna reduce your escrow hang on yeah. Yeah, I know. So the saltier I am, the less I pay escrow, watch me work.
Watch me go to town. Love the idea. I mean, I was on the ice and played, you know, like
hockey all the way through and still play men's league and you hear guys say some stupid
stuff but can't imagine this one's gonna fly. Love the idea. Yeah. Do not ever see this.
How about, how about you offer that secondary window
to watch the game. The really offensive stuff gets washed,
but things like that make it in.
Yeah. But it makes it to social media right now anyway.
Well, I mean I guess it just should make it more.
Yeah.
Yeah. You know what, I mean I get guess it just should make it more. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know what? I mean, I get where you're going with it.
I think that the NHL and the teams involved, like let's meet in the middle here.
They should just do a better job of promoting this stuff.
It shouldn't be once every couple of weeks we find from one team that a clip like
this comes out. Like that shouldn't be the case.
There should be more common and put out there
because this is something too, like by the way,
Pat McPhee picks up on this stuff all the time
and he'll talk about this on his show.
I don't know if he talked about this one.
But if you do this more frequently,
it'll come up in the mainstream media more often.
It'll be promoted and talked about
and people latch onto it.
It just needs to be put out there.
I don't think the game, the uncensored game is
gonna get there. Hockey's on a streak right now man. Like hockey is so hot again right now. It's
so hot. It's so good. Brand new eyeballs on it since the four nations. Hockey is going like great
places right now. Boom. Here's another flavor puck. You know what? Why don't we ask an actual coach
and someone who when he was a player, played
with the notorious Danbury Trashers.
If you want to talk about a salty team with salty mouths and he's smiling
already, Troy Smith, by the way, Smitty, before we get into this Troy Smith from
hockey IQ, before we get into breaking down the Winnipeg Jets power play, and I
want to get your thoughts on the overtime between Seattle and Montreal last night.
Your thoughts on my grand idea that's gonna revolutionize the game,
maybe end some players careers
as they get canceled a little bit.
But nonetheless, your thoughts on providing
secondary screening of games with mic'd up players.
I love it.
I think it would take that HR way, way up.
You talked about the Trashers.
I was gonna say, maybe they could
have had us miked up, but we were miked up by the FBI. So a little bit different.
I wonder if they got any old tapes they can share, but it'd be interesting.
The hearings weren't before a commissioner. They're before a judge.
Dan, real quick, and I should have done this last time,
but as Philly just mentioned to me,
like you're on during the first week of the show
and we're just trying to figure out how we're gonna do this
and now we're really comfortable here on this thing.
So I'm just gonna say like every time we have you on,
I am gonna ask for a Danbury Trasher story.
I'm not gonna ask for one specifically now
because I'm putting you on the spot,
but just a wide brush thought, because we've all seen the documentary,
just a wide brush thought like what memories flood right back to you when
you think of your days with the Danbury Trashers? I really wish I appreciated
what I was in the middle of more because we were just having fun, but one
particular story and it's about Jimmy where Jimmy would come in and have conversations
with us in between periods. And I can remember coming in in between first and second, whatever
it was. And he basically went around the room and it was unbelievable. 20 different names for the 20
players about how bad we were playing called us each something different. And at the end,
he ended it with, and you guys know, you don't want to blank with me. Yeah. Walks out five seconds
later, walks back in points at the ceiling, which is a nod to
the FBI and says, I don't give a crap if they heard me say that.
You want to see 20 hockey players completely scared out of
their pants checking their, checking their drawers. It was uh it was unbelievable but uh it was a lot of fun and I
really wish I appreciated it more during that time. Well we can all appreciate it now going back and
watching the documentaries and hearing all the stories. It just seemed like Smitty like honestly
like one of those teams where you know there are some teams where you hear stories like, okay, well, there's probably some truth in there, but a lot of it sort of gets exaggerated. Every single
Danbury Trasher story I hear, I implicitly believe. Because I have no reason because it's one of those
things where, how can you even exaggerate more? Like, again, like the FBI was involved. You know,
like, how much more can you exaggerate
about this team? Like honestly, Smitty, I believe everything I hear about Danbury.
It's all true. I think I've said to you, they could have, they could have done a second documentary
with way more stories and, and it's, you know, I was only there for three quarters of a year. The
guys that were there for two years have a lot more to tell than me, but we need a little bit more of that in the game,
stories like that, maybe restart the United Hockey League.
Dun, dun, dun, here comes the U-Haul again.
All we need is an NHL lockout
and have guys beaking Chris Cellios like the Hatcher.
Didn't Avery go down to the U-Haul too
and played her in the lockout as well?
He did for a little bit.
The guys that I remember is there was obviously on that team, there was Hatcher, Smolinski,
Cellios.
Avery played a few games.
And then the Missouri, I can't remember what their handle was.
Missouri had Jackman and another guy from St. Louis.
There was two or three guys from St. Louis that played in that league.
So it was, it was actually a pretty good league when you look back at it.
Little tough, but
little bit, little bit snug.
Okay.
Um, let's get to some video.
And this is, you know, obviously for the people that are watching either live on
YouTube and archive on YouTube, uh, if you're listening on your favorite, uh,
podcast platform, uh, encourage you to go and have a look at what
Smitty's talking about here.
When we want to break down a couple of things, we
don't do this very often on the show, but there's a
couple of things that I really think need some
attention.
One of them, the Winnipeg Jets power play, but
bracket that for a second.
Because the NHL was buzzing last night.
It was the last game of the evening, but still
like this one popped like the crooked of a
champagne bottle.
We're seeing teams line up straight line for the overtime, right?
There's a right winger, left winger, and a center and a defender is going
to play one of the wings.
And last night it was Brandon Montour against Lane Hudson and off the draw.
Boom.
Montour goes grabs it scores seconds, fastest overtime goal scored.
Where was the breakdown here?
And did Chandler Stevenson either deliberately lose that draw or did Chandler Stevenson not
just lose the draw, but also push the puck forward knowing that Hudson was going to get
run over by Montour? How'd you see this one?
So to your second question, I do think he lost the drawn purpose and kind of
pushed it forward.
And secondly, you know, the breakdown is really unfortunately in Lane Hudson,
but for those on watch YouTube, you can see they talk about it before.
Those are two veteran players.
And they're talking about Hudson there.
Like they're talking like, okay,
uh, uh, uh, Montor, you got, you got Hudson there.
This is what we're going to do.
This is exactly what we're going to do. Defenseman versus defenseman.
You can see his stick starts in the front, so he doesn't give it away.
Then it's behind, but then you see he's on his toes and right away,
he's jumping past them. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind.
And you can even see it the way Stevenson's stick goes out,
that that's what they're trying to do,
is just push it past them and really unfortunately
take advantage of a young player.
But look at those eyes.
And I would say when you look at the eyes right off the draw,
he's focused in on when that puck's gonna go down.
He's absolutely dialed in. And then after that,
you can even see it after they score. I've clipped it so that it comes up right away.
That's the look of somebody who's just pulled a prank on somebody. It's the wet bandit.
It worked. It worked.
So this is the real time. You see all three of them talk about it. It's
undoubtedly a set play a really smart set play and you know what for Lane
Hudson it happened to him last night but I guarantee it'll never happen to him
again and you can see there too it really doesn't move. I really do wonder if the next
time we see Montreal in the overtime if Hudson isn't lined up at the line, but
he's a couple of feet back.
Got some PTSD.
Yeah, like, don't let this happen to me again.
But the other thing that I wonder about here too, like, so someone I talked to this afternoon
said to me, what Hudson has to do, they said, he said after every draw, this is an NHL coach,
by the way, he said, every draw, you have to touch your man.
You have to touch your man. You have
to touch your man on the draw and where Hudson failed here is he didn't touch Monterey. Every
drop you got to touch the guy across him, he didn't touch him. You have to have a bump and
I think the other thing that young players don't do is just look at the hands. Not so much in that
scenario but defensive zone draws for sure.
See what they're going to do.
You, the hands of the players of the right or left shot usually tells you
exactly what they're going to try and do, or at least gives you an idea
of what their options are.
And that's all part of the learning curve.
Obviously Hudson's going to be a great player and it is a great player already.
Yeah.
If, if you're Marty, if you're Marty, listen, Marty St.
Louis has seen so many different things.
Like he's been out the door and around the block in hockey.
If you're Marty St.
Louis, are you not thinking, hold on a second, something's going on here with
Seattle, like whether it's the guys gathering before the draw, you know,
watching what could be happening here?
Like, is there any part of you that says Marty's got to alert his team or
is it just happened too fast?
I think it happens too fast because really when you look at it Montours obviously unbelievable
defenseman huge free agent signing but you got Eberly on the other side you have to think that's
the guy that they're probably more worried about you know that fooled them the perk that I found
interesting that it was forward
on forward and then D on D. I know it's three on three, so it's really man on man. And I'm going
to try and find out more as to why they would do that. Why would you line up that way? It just seems odd.
Great scouting by Seattle on that one, knowing that that's where Hudson's going to line up.
I think the players called it. I really, that was an audible.
I think it was you look at Stevenson and then you look at Montour, the two of them are talking
together and then Eberly comes in. And basically I think they just say, Hey, we're going to push
it forward. Montour is going to go. It wouldn't take much. And those two, they both won Stanley
Cups. They've been around long enough that I really don't, nothing
against the Seattle coaching staff, but I think that was an
audible and what a great audible, unbelievable goal.
If you're Dan Biasma, if you're Dan Biasma, do you take credit
for it?
Absolutely. It's like everything. It's even, you know, as
coaches, you run, as coaches,
you run a great face off play of any kind,
and you've probably seen it
or somebody else told you about it,
but it's R and D, research and duplicate.
That's all it is.
Research and duplicate, yeah.
Greatness borrows, genius steals.
Go ahead.
You know, let me shift attention now here to power plays
and the Winnipeg Jets on
hockey IQ you've been all over this. So and I encourage everybody whether it's
your Instagram, whether it's Twitter, like get on get on board with hockey
hockey IQ. Some of the best power plays we've ever seen in the history of the
NHL, the Montreal Canadiens of the late 70s, the New York Islanders of the early 80s,
that was my personal favorite.
There was a few years ago where Columbus,
like it was just an automatic.
A lot of, and it's funny too,
because a lot of that was made possible by Sam Gagne,
who just like turned himself
into this power play specialist.
But the Winnipeg Jets, number one power play in the NHL
and they're flat out fun to watch.
Here's my question to you, Troy Smith of Hockey IQ, why?
A few reasons.
One, obviously you need talent,
but I think the big thing, that talent isn't selfish.
I looked at the stats.
When you go through it, Connors got 16% of their goals,
Shifely's at 18%, Velardy is leading it with 21.5%.
Ellers is at 11%.
Morrissey's got five.
And a guy that isn't even always on their first unit per FETI is at 9%.
So it's not a power play.
And you see this from time to time where the player always wants the puck.
And when that player always wants the puck and you have no other options,
it becomes easier to pre-skip and adjust and things like that. When you look at the Jets, they're just,
they're not a selfish team. I think the other part is that they're not afraid to shoot. And
myself included, we often talk about the quarterback, the quarterback, the quarterback.
But when you look at Gabe Velarty, six, three, 2-15, whatever he is, he's leading them with 12 goals.
And his presence and his skill is complemented by not just ellers that could be on the goal line
or in the bumper position, but also the threat of let's be honest, Shafely can rip the puck.
And so can Kyle Connor. So how do you defend it when all five guys on the ice, whether it's Ehlers or Profetti can make you pay.
Let me, um, before we get to some of the clips here and some of the breakdowns,
were you, refresh my memory. My timeline in my head is all boggled. Um,
were you coaching in the OHL when Gabe Velarde was playing with Windsor?
Uh, yes.
So, so you knew like dots down,
he was probably the best player in the league.
Like he hasn't like profoundly changed his game.
He's just gotten bigger and stronger and more, and the main thing is healthy and
more and more comfortable out there.
Like I don't see his game being that much different than that dominant game that
he played with the Windsor Spitfires.
I would agree.
And he's only, I think he's 25 now. So really,
it feels like he's been around forever.
It does. Cause I think, you know, they saw how good he could be.
And he, I believe he started at 19 year old and battling through all those injuries.
And then I think the other part is just being on a team where you're supported like that,
but he's still given the opportunity. He's starting to become a
premier forward for me. I think he's at 60 points now. I know
that's not way up at the top, but that power play is so
lethal. That's a big reason why they've been successful and
Velardi deserves a ton of credit for it.
How much of it is to and you've already sort of touched on this
is like, there are so many players that have such different skill sets.
Like what Nikolai Ehlers does is different than what Kyle Connor does, which is different than what Gabe Velarde does, which is different than what Josh Morrissey does, which is different than what Mark Shieffley does.
You know what I mean? Like there's not a whole lot of overlap. No, there are. Well, really on the flanks, I would say that Shafely and Connor are somewhat similar
big guys that aren't afraid to shoot the puck, but can also dish it.
And they all just compliment each other.
And you really see it the way they move and the way they rotate into different
situations and different positions and really the way they can adapt against different penalty kills
is just beautiful to watch. As a bit of a video geek, I love it. I can't get enough of it.
And that's why I've been sharing so much about the Jets. It's just, you know, the different threats
and the different things that each one of these players brings like watching the Profeti goal
from the other night. I really believe that he faked the shot and then made the backhand.
You think so? I go back and... you and I had this conversation over text the other night. I'm like, I
want to think that it was deliberate and then the other part of me is like nah I just got broken and he made it and he salvaged it like let's let's have a let's have you have this one
Cued up here Smitty
Yes, you see what we're talking about here with that
Zach there Zach has the clip I can oh there we go so
Yeah, this is the goal. So you're going to see they rotate into what's called a spread or a box in one.
So they get the puck and initially, so Profetti's down at the goal line there.
Initially, they're kind of more in your umbrella 131.
Morrissey as the QB, Shieffley and Conner as the flanks.
But then right here, you're going to see how Shafely goes to the goal line.
Valerdi comes out into the middle.
Perfetti is going to slide down to the goal line.
And then Morrissey stays over on the left side.
And what I think is kind of their trigger or their read as to when they're going to actually get into the box and one,
which is effective against an aggressive kill is when Connor carries
it up.
Cause you can see the schiefly slid down and that's what you would call a spread or a box
and one.
And you'll see just a possible everyone.
I was like the, the, the, the, the box and one essentially means that there's, there's
one player inside that box and everybody else is on the outside. On the outside and the distance of the passes, what makes an aggressive kill.
It's hard to be aggressive when the puck's moving so fast because despite
what young players may think the puck always moves faster than players.
So they, they end up getting it down to profetti.
And then right here, I don't think that, I don't think that, I don't think, honestly, I think he, I think
he's he fans on it and he salvages it and makes a great play.
You disagree.
I did.
I'm bias.
I was part of the staff when we drafted them, but you just look at that.
It's such an exaggerated whiff.
But if you whiff, you usually fall forwards and things like that.
And he's just so casual about it at the end.
That's why you really see it like to your point right there.
That's the box in one.
You can see the box around one guy in the middle.
Also called the spread.
Hey, again, really effective because for the Rangers to go running,
that's a long way for them
to really pressure.
And it's a good adjustment for a powerplay.
But then right there, it's so quick.
It's fast, man.
Perfetti's hands are so fast.
You're not buying what I'm selling?
I don't know if I'm picking up what you're putting down.
Even there, Jeff, his body isn't turned.
He's not bringing it to the net.
He literally just moves his stick and then taps it over and Valerity's ready.
The Rangers goalie bites on it too. It'd be interesting, I can't see the chat but
it'll be interesting to see maybe there can be a poll that Zach can put up for
whether or not.
What do you guys think? That's an interesting one. What do you think in the chat? Did Profetti,
did Profetti fan on that or was that deliberate to draw the attention away from Gabe Velarde and
then it's a two-foot putt? As a two-foot putt from the former first-round draft pack. Cole's an
extremely gifted.
You know, I have a quick pause on Perfetti because listen,
last year the deadline Kevin Shevelday
up brought in Tyler Toffoli, the Winnipeg Jets.
And with that went Cole Perfetti's spot.
Not that Rick Bonus was using him a ton, but still.
And this year it's been more opportunity.
There've been times of struggle.
There've been times of great production.
What do you, I mean, you know him.
What do you see out of Cole Profetti right now?
I see confidence.
Like even on that play, even if he whiffs on it,
you just think about if he's playing tight
and he's playing tense, that play doesn't happen.
And you just, you see him, like when I first saw him,
he was playing for the Vaughan Kings.
It was at Scotiabank P pond there, the OHL cup. And I walk in and first shift, he drives the puck
down, goes slowly up the wall, finds a late man. And I was like, this kid's got unbelievable hockey
sense. And now I think he's really maturing and he's comfortable in his skin. He's gotten
stronger. No different than Velardy. It's just maturity where that maturity leads to confidence.
Plus it doesn't hurt that he's playing on the number one team in the Western
conference, but a coach believing in him as well doesn't hurt him also.
And he's just, he's such a, uh, A mild mannered, and I don't want to say that.
Cause I don't want to say that he's not competitive
because he is, but he's got just such a good aura about him
that I don't think a lot of things bother him.
And now he's getting comfortable.
We have the, we have the poll going in the chat,
by the way, did Profetti intentionally fake it?
Fanned on it 57% meant to do that 43.
Well, you are the host of the show. The third- Fanned on it, 57%, meant to do that 43%. Wow.
You are the host of the show.
The foot there.
I'm biasing the witnesses here.
You're biasing the poll.
You don't want to get kicked into the chat.
All right, you can all stay, except for you 43%.
Yeah.
Punt, make like a tree and leave.
All right, anything more for Winnipeg?
No, that's, you know, obviously they've got a great goalie
and from a Canadian perspective, let's hope they do great.
I'm excited to see it.
Winnipeg is a fun team to watch.
Again, like playoffs have kind of been the Achilles
for this squad.
I mean, especially with Connor Halabuck
and now more so than ever, it's so dangerous to overwork your goal tenor you cross your
fingers because you just want to see the Winnipeg Jets be able to do something
here knowing how sensitive a market this is in the NHL anyhow real quick before
I let you go I know you had a busy day and popping on here and yucking it up
about the trashers and I know you got stuff to do. And outside of the watching the Winnipeg Jets, like who's doing it for you these days, Smitty?
You know what?
There's a, obviously Dallas watching Dallas Rant and then it's been great for them.
Um, you know, the one team from a power play perspective that probably doesn't get the
respect it deserves is Detroit.
And they're third in the league in power play. And Patrick Kane, when you watch him, I want to sit there and say,
OK, he's done. But then I was at the game against Anaheim and he goes down and he scores the overtime winner.
He's still a great player to watch. But I try not to get fixated on one team. But I
think the player that I really want to watch is Wallman. I'm excited to see what he can do on a
good team because I think he's been underrated. 100% agree. The only problem is the Oilers aren't
exactly a good team right now. I think they pull out of the speed wobble here
and pull out of the skid, but still,
I'm with you on Walmart.
I thought that was a great move by the San Jose Sharks.
But a quick little point,
I'm not sure if you had a chance to watch last night's game,
but if you did, did you see, speaking of Pat Kane,
did you see that little casual backhand flip
to Alex to bring it?
Yeah.
Like, yeah.
And it's like nothing for him.
It's like rolling out of bed.
Boop.
Yeah.
Pressure.
No problem.
You follow that one under.
You can't teach that.
That's just Pacquain, man.
It's he's so good.
But yeah, and speaking of that clip you showed of Tommy Wilson and Ryan Strowm, like that was fantastic.
And I'm not surprised, the whole Strowm family, like Matthew Strowm, the youngest brother
that plays in Hershey, he is honestly one of the funniest human beings I've ever met
in a very quiet, understated way.
The whole family is great.
The family is outstanding. Dad is one
of the funniest. When I cover junior hockey consistently, he is one of the funniest, nicest,
coolest guys, coolest dads that I ever met in junior hockey. Honestly, I gush about the
Stroum family for good reason. Love the players. Matthew, I remember watching, scored that
overtime winner OHL Cup. Marlies versus Don Mills, you know, like
insanely clutch goal
For Matthew Strom, Dylan Strom was killing it with the Washington Capitals. I got I got all day for that family
Matthew scored the Calder Cup winning goal last year. Did he not? Yeah
Did he score the Calder Cup winning goal to? I'm pretty sure he did. I'm almost positive. His billet, Darrell Bodden and I follow each other.
I could have sworn he posted that thing for about five days straight. I'll go back and check.
All right. Get back to that. Oh, hang on. Zach Phillips, our producer, is saying he did. Absolutely,
he did. So Matthew Strom, OHL Cup overtime winner and Calder Cup game winning championship winning goal. Thanks
for that one Philly. What should people know about Troy Smith and Hockey IQ?
Well you can follow me at hockey IQ can on Instagram and then recently started
a YouTube page as well hockey IQ CA and if I can I just want to give one shout
out to the Artsci team at St. Effects.
Hucks for Purpose, they're raising money for two great causes, Cancer Society and
Special Olympics, so good luck to them and thanks so much for having me back on here Jeff and Zach.
It's always a pleasure, I look forward to doing it again. You're the best, Mitty. You'll be well,
thanks for for hopping on to share your expertise, even though you're wrong about
Profetti.
I'll ask him at some point.
More Danbury Trashers story next time you're on more Danbury Trashers stories
from Troy Smith.
Hey, Philly, did you see that Pat?
I know I'm dropping this one on you.
So the last minute, did you see that Pat Kane pass on the Debrink it goal?
Yeah I did but I saw it today.
Just like beautiful, so simple, so casual.
It's almost like Pat Kane made the play saying, watch me beat Pat Kane.
Yeah I know.
That's the thing is like there's sometimes he just does stuff and it's like
there's that's you never see that you might never see stuff like that again and it's the
most casual things of all time. Yeah. I don't know man. You know what I go in back and watch
a lot just for fun is have you ever seen like the Pavel Datsuk highlight reel so there's
one it's called like the magic man yeah we're watching those like destroys Logan
Kachur in the corner yeah or like when he strips the guy on the Predators behind
the net and then comes out alone I think it's on Pekka Rinne and like just
absolutely walks him yeah that guy does some ridiculous stuff yeah I always I
remember Brad May told me well a couple of things about Datsuk.
It's tough to lose a line matchup when your best offensive player is also your best defensive player.
Like think of the luxury that Mike Babcock had for years between Datsuk and Zetterberg.
Like how are you going to lose a matchup? Like we're home, we're on the road, I don't care.
Play wherever you want. Want to play on Mars? We'll go play on Mars. We won't lose a line matchup there.
We got Datsuk and Zetterberg. It's fine, we'll play anywhere.
We'll win every matchup.
So there's that.
He also, I know we always make a lot about
Leon Dreisaitl's canoe paddle blade.
Like he's got like the burger flipper,
I think they call it in Edmonton.
Like the thing is massive.
I remember in Quebec City at Memorial Cup,
having a look at it, it was the first time I saw it,
first time I met Dreisaitl at the Col de Seine.
We're just going by the stick rack.
Before games, one of the things that I like to do
is just go by the stick rack
and see who's got unique sticks, simply.
Okay, is there a story here?
Can we ask about this?
And Dreisaitl had this burger,
the burger flipper that he had.
But if you look at Datzixblade, it's like a shovel.
Like it's one of the weirdest things and I remember Brad May told me and Brad was with Detroit
briefly but I said like what's one it what's one interesting thing you can
tell me about Pavel Datsuk he goes I'll tell you too I go, okay. He said, um, no one's seen him workout. I'm like, what? He goes, no, it's
weird. Like, we'll all be like working out in the gym. He'll just like vanish and come
back like soaking. None of us knew like what he was doing. Like what are these workouts
that that that Pavel Datsuk does? And the other one is, is, is a pretty funny story.
And this is around, I don't know which Olympics this must've been.
Maybe it would have been Sochi. Maybe he said they're on the bus,
the Detroit red wings and Datsuk's sitting beside Mayday.
He's got his headphones on. He's listening to music and Mike Babcock comes,
walks down the island and says hey Pav,
take your take your headphones off and he says that's who takes his headphones off and
goes what do you want Mike? He goes who's um who's tougher for you to play against Seabrook
or Bollmeester and he goes F off Mike and he puts his headphones back on Mike Babcock
trying to trying to figure out who should be on team, Canada. He's gonna go ask his own Russian player
Who do you find harder to to play against a bo meester of Renzi?
F off Mike
Would have loved to have been sitting there and hearing that. Good on Babcock for trying to slip one in for Team Canada, but
Pavel Datsik wasn't gonna bite on that toe drag filly from Pavel Datsik. He wasn't gonna bite on that toe drag
Anyhow, no, by the way, you bring up brought up Danbury Trashers there
Yeah, I've got a story with the Trashers of my own. So okay when I was 12, did you go to jail?
Did you go to federal penitentiary? You were like Fort Dix in New Jersey?
Where, what'd you do?
No, not quite.
Okay.
I was 12, I think it was, so 2010, 2011 maybe.
Went on a trip and I played hockey in Sweden and Finland.
And we had these coaches, it was like a select team.
People across North America came and went on this trip.
These coaches, all we knew is one of the coaches
had played semi-professional hockey, played for the Phantoms and the AHL, all this trip. These coaches, all we knew is one of the coaches had played semi-professional hockey, played for the Phantoms and the AHL, all this stuff. Never think about it really
after that. I'm watching the Danbury Trashers documentary and they do the final scene of
the final episode and they show them all coming back together for the reunion in the bar.
They show this huge guy walk in and shake everybody's hands.
And I sat there and went, holy shit,
that was my coach on the trip, Dave McKayzik.
He was the captain of the team.
I was like, what?
And there he is in the documentary.
I hadn't seen from heard the guy ever again.
And there he is in the Danbury Trashers dock. I search him up.
Sure enough he was the captain of the team. You know there's always again
like you know where are they now are great features to do and it's always
interesting to find out you know where people end up and what they end up
doing and you do have like those hockey moments where like holy smokes I haven't
thought about you in a million years. There's always been, boy here's a peek
inside my brain. What time is it?
Okay I got time for this one. You ever seen the documentary The Chiefs? Les Chiefs? No. I'm going
to force you to watch this. I want everybody in the chat, everybody listening, everybody watching
right now. It's about the Laval Chiefs from the old Quebec semi-pro league, the LNAH.
And it's produced by a guy by the name of Mike Bejourney,
whose brother would have played on that team, I believe. I think I have it right.
And there's one person, it's a documentary about the league, it's like the goon league where like, you know,
you buy a ticket to a game and if there's not at least
one fight, you get a free ticket to another game.
It's like the whole league sort of revolves around brawls.
Right?
I used to get, even up until like, even a couple of years
ago, they're still flying in John Marasthy from Saskatchewan
to play like, you know, two shot on the weekend,
come in two fights, here's 3000 bucks and on your way back to run your Tim Hortons and sketch one.
Um, and there's one of the people from this documentary,
anybody listening who's watched this,
you may have the same feeling that I do.
Brian H Jeffy's handing out homework today, folks. Yes, I am. Damn it.
You're all going to go watch The Chiefs. It's an
awesome documentary. I got a poster like right around the corner here in my
basement of The Chiefs. But anyway, this guy with the name of Tim Levesque who the
team brings on at a certain point of the season and for whatever reason I
can't stop thinking about all the scenes,
and I don't want to bias anybody here about Tim in this documentary.
But you'll know what I mean when you watch the documentary,
and at the end of it you say to yourself I really want to know what happened to that guy and
where Tim Levesque ended up. Someone told me he was once after the documentary
and after he finished his hockey career that he was bouncing at a nightclub in
Ottawa but there are just some people that like you know where's Link Gates now
but yeah Tim Leveque fought
before he got drafted right and he had the black eyes in his draft pick that's
link gates right yeah Lou Nance like yeah might have been like the elevator
on the on the way up they took Modano first and they took a toughest guy in
the Western League to protect Modano met him in the elevators got a case of beer
on his shoulder why does training camp camp? Yeah, lose it.
We just draft.
But a long way of saying, two things.
Watch this documentary, it's outstanding.
Part of it is very, very depressing.
Be warned.
Part of it is really, really depressing.
And the stuff with Tim Lavec has haunted me ever since.
And maybe it'll have the same effect on you.
Again, I don't wanna bias what you expect when you see this,
but I'm really dying to know what happened to Tim Lavec
and where he ended up.
And I guess this is me a way of saying, I hope he's okay.
Anyhow, watch the Chiefs. Yes, I am giving everybody homework. Oh, it's on Apple TV.
All right. Check it out. Watch it. Is there going to be a quiz from Philip Emory to a chiefs quiz?
Anyway, there's your homework for the day, folks. Have something on my desk by 9 a.m. on Monday.
With that, by the way, people
asking in the chat what's it called again? The Chiefs. The Chiefs, yeah, Le
Chief. Yeah, the Chiefs. It's all about the Laval Chiefs of the Quebec semi-pro
league and it's a part of it's really funny and remember you okay Philly you've
heard me and everyone in the chat everyone listening ever watching you've
heard me talk about the difference between dumb and hockey dumb when you watch this you're like oh hockey dumb oh there's
there's hockey dumb there oh there's some oh that's hockey dumb you'll see then you'll be like okay
now i know what merrick means when he says oh that's hockey dumb oh there's some hockey dumb. Ooh, there's some hockey dumb. Ooh, Little Willie Styles, the sheet quiz.

What do we still have on the books here today.
Producer slash host Philly.
Well, it depends. We don't really have much, a lot of time, right?
We want to rip through, because we have some emails,
so we could get to some of those. Let's save the tweets for tomorrow.
I'm gonna give you one email.
Oh, we got Berkey, you know what?
No, hang on, hang on, let's do this.
We got, I'm gonna pull rank.
We got Berkey tomorrow,
and I wanna get like a full dose of Berkey.
So why don't we do, why don't we park the emails for now,
and throw up a couple of answers for our Twitter poll today.
So Connor McGehee, do we have the Connor McGehee tweet
from earlier on today?
I don't have the Connor one, I have the responding ones.
I have all the other ones.
Okay, so Connor McGehee threw up a tweet.
Hockey in the NHL is great.
Three changes to make it better, according to Connor McGehee.
One to eight playoffs or one to sixteen if you want to get crazy. Man I grew up with one to
sixteen it was wild. No shootout and can't go back across the red line in
overtime. And so we put out to the Sheetheads make your own send them in.
This is the overflowing well like when. Like when you're doing topics for a show, this is always a good one.
Change the NHL.
Let's hear the ideas.
Let's hear the goofy ones.
Let's hear the great ones.
Larry Quinn voice.
Oh Chris.
Blue ice.
Now do you know why Chris says Larry Quinn voice?
No.
So Larry Quinn, when he was president of the Buffalo Sabres, and I went to one of these
games during the 2004-2005 lockout at the old HSBC arena, they painted the ice blue,
had I believe it was orange blue lines, for the American league team, the Rochester Americans who played a couple of games,
one against Cleveland and one against St. John's.
I think I'm getting that one right.
I went to one of them.
We ran a bus trip from the old radio station
that I was working at AM 640.
And so this was Larry Quinn's idea.
Larry also had other ideas coming out of that lockout
as well when there was the Shanahan Summit
and there was the old goal scoring is down we got to shrink
the equipment and the goalies would push back and there's no way we're gonna
shrink the equipment it's about protection it's not about goal scoring
blah blah blah blah blah blah. Larry came out with and maybe we can find a picture
of this at a subsequent date I'm not gonna put you on the spot. He came out
you ever see those big bulging nets up at the top?
Larry Quinn had the idea if, you know,
goaltenders are gonna go down and seal up the bottom
of the ice and make it almost impossible,
unless you're shooting at the triangle,
more on that later, we're gonna give more room up top.
And so they had like two big bubbles
on the outside of these nets to give players more
to shoot at. with goalies getting bigger
We're essentially gonna make the nets bigger and that was a Larry Quinn idea as well
That one never went anywhere
I hated the idea because I don't know that we should be encouraging players to shoot higher at the net
There's already enough players getting injured. I don't want pucks coming up
higher around players faces and heads. Thank you very much. But that was a Larry Quinn initiative
as well. And as a follow-up, you've maybe seen the pictures of the the blue ice in Buffalo during
those AHL games with the orange blue lines. I can look, I was there. I loved it. I thought it looked
cool. That began this whole fascination with colored ice
for me, to be honest.
And I remember talking to Dave Andrews,
who was the president and CEO of the American Hockey League
at that point, and I asked him about it,
and he started laughing.
And I said, what's so funny?
And he said, that was great for the American Hockey League.
And I said, it was?
Why?
He said, because Larry Quinn never got AHL approval,
the color of the, changed the color of the ice.
So we find him $75,000.
He never asked, he just went and did it.
So we find him.
Put like 7,500 grand in our jeans.
Oh yeah, that was great.
Do it again, Larry.
Change the nets too while you're at it, Larry.
Yeah.
Keep changing stuff, go ahead.
Just keep bringing it up.
Cash box and Buffalo.
So that's why you put Larry, Chris put Larry Quinn,
voice in that one.
So I appreciated that one when I saw it.
Do we have any more?
Yeah, let's do this one. This one's a division realignment. Oh, also quickly, by the way, um,
the ECHL does like the blue and like the different color goal posts. Yeah. Those are super cool.
Your PHF used to do that. He used to do purple posts. Loved them.
Oh, okay. Uh, here's the division realignment suggestion from Avery
I hope I'm not too late Jeff I got a big one divisional realignment featuring
the Great Lakes slash original 6th division hey South slash Southeast
division Pacific and Central remain pretty much the same and then this fixes
travel distance for quite a few teams and they included a map in which they've circled it here.
This is one of those things where you want to have some time to sit with it
and look at it and think about it but it's an interesting one. Dallas still has tough travel, Florida teams still do.
I mean first blush one thing that I don't like is original six but you know.
Why don't you like that one?
Because it's not true.
Okay, you're being like...
There's an original one.
You're not talking about the actual alignment to the
division you're talking about the labeling of the teams.
There's original one the Montreal Canadiens everybody else is an expansion team.
Okay.
Everyone in Montreal going yeah good one.
American everyone else said if you are true though.
Sorry, it's true.
Everybody's an expansion team Montreal Canadiens.
Original one. That's what I team. Montreal Canadiens are the original one.
That's what I got for you there, Philly.
The other one is a shot clock.
I wanted to know what your thoughts were on this one.
Yeah, I know.
It was a shot clock on-
On overtime?
Video reviews, video reviews.
Oh, yeah, I do.
Oh, on video reviews?
Yes, that I do like.
Because things like Offside, yes, that I do like. Because things like Offside,
really, I mean, I look at Offside just as a,
to me, close enough is good enough.
Like, it's just a way to, so no one
egregiously goes Offside.
Matt Duchenne.
It's Matt Duchenne, like, again,
and Alec Martinez as well, it was an LA game.
But Matt Duchenne is the one we always use as the example so much so much of all this is just on
Matt Deshane for whatever I feel sorry for Matt Deshane but he's always gonna
be married to this one yeah the the thing about off sides for me is again
close enough is good enough you just want to keep players close enough to the
blue lines that nothing is egregious.
And if your eyeball can't discern it
with a 30 second review, then I'm sorry.
Then I'm sorry.
Then that's just default to the Jeffy's
close enough is good enough and keep it that way.
Otherwise, like man, we've seen some that are so long
and a game that prides itself on being up tempo
and fast and quick.
Like, honestly, like, I love the,
one of the big sells of hockey is that it's flow,
it's continual, it keeps going.
Like, I'd even go as far, Philly, as saying,
you know, goalies shouldn't be allowed to freeze the puck.
Why are they allowed to delay the game
where everybody else is not allowed to delay the puck? Why are they allowed to delay the game where everybody else is not
allowed to delay the game? Hmm. That's for another show. But I'm saying, part of the hook is like it's action, it's action, it's continual.
And then we go hold on a second here. Now let's stare at an iPad for four minutes.
Conduct yourselves accordingly. We're gonna try to solve this riddle here.
I hate it. I'm all for that shot clock. I'm all for that one. 100%.
Well, the other thing that I'll throw quickly, we'll keep moving on and wrap this up here.
But the other thing with the offsides, Mike Baker. The one point in here, no offside reviews
20 plus seconds after zone entry. He threw in some other things there, but I wanted to key in on the offside reviews 20
plus.
I have an idea here on top of this that Mike inspired me.
You have to challenge the play on the fly within 30 seconds of it happening, otherwise
you can't anymore.
So your video team still has an opportunity to review it, but it makes them have to work
faster and maybe be better
They call down to you know
Whoever your assistant coach is on whatever bench. So then hey Merrick challenge it okay, so
But does the whistle then stop on the challenge or does the play have to be over?
No stop on the challenge, and then the ref can call it right then and away because because that no way
Why?
No, I hang on
So as the play is going on, yep
You're challenging the outside even if there's no goal that scored
Yes, how many challenge decision is it worth it or not? Do you have to do it because then it kind of eliminates that
And it keeps the it keeps the time like how often do we see?
Okay, maybe it's not too often
But we see it too much where it's like it sticks out of my mind
We're like a minute and a half goes by the guy was offside
now you have to review it and like you go back to the point in time of the guy was offside like
We're playing a minute and a half of useless hockey there
we're playing a minute and a half of useless hockey there. Yeah, I get it, empty-coward hockey.
I get it.
I get it.
I get it, like what happened to that time
in sort of like real hockey sense.
Or we could just get rid of those
off-side video reviews altogether.
I know you're getting the toothpaste back in the bottle here.
But I'd be a fan of that.
Like honestly, just to your point, Philly,
because of a Matt Deshane offside.
That was egregious. Everybody lost their minds.
Yeah.
We have to have a mechanism for this never to happen again. Why?
It goes quick though, right? Like, because the other thing, like Brehant says, that would
slow the game down so much. I don't think it would because I think you'd probably see
less challenges. Like unless you know that it's offside,
you're probably not challenging it.
Yeah.
And then, you know, you can do the kicker.
But then you're stopping the game on an offside.
Is that what you want?
But you only have so many.
But you only have so many, you're just gonna take penalties.
Like you can't do it over and over and over again.
If you challenge and you get it wrong, you get a penalty.
Then the team goes to the power play.
And then they set up in the offensive zone on a faceoff and then lose the power.
And then you lose the ability to challenge anymore?
I would just keep it with how it is right now
with the current rules of if you challenge
and you get the penalty, right?
So what, you lose the next challenge, right?
Or am I wrong on that?
Don't you already do that?
So I just don't, honestly, I just hate the idea
of always offside, we're going to this and this right now in the offensive zone
My thing is it's just not put it this way off sides aren't that
Aren't a big aren't a bigger event than a goal
Like goals are the ultimate event right right
But I I the reason I throw this out again as just kind of you would only challenge it because you know.
Your video team saw it and went, that was a foot offside. Stop this now, challenge it. I don't know, they hit a button or they like throw the flag at the rest.
That would make me hate offside challenges even more. really it really really would like I'm warm I'm warmer to the idea of
If there's a change of possession, you can't you can't challenge for offside
If there's a change change and then a change of possession
I'm back and then it goes back to them even if it's no in the zone. No, no challenge
Fair enough. I don't know
No challenge. Yep, fair enough. I don't know. Hang on to some of these because there were some really good ones too and by the way Larry Quinn. Yeah I'll keep them.
Larry Quinn Blue Ice. That one found a home with me. Alright, quickly here
before we wrap things up on the program, FanDuel proud to connect fans to the
major sports moments that matter to them. Ruster updates from daily face-offs,
fantasy Twitter, slash ex-feed. Some
intriguing ones here today, the Boston Bruins facing off against Dylan
Cousins and the Ottawa Senators. Holy smokes. We'll see. I know it's only a
couple of games, but is this trend like, is this like the Ryan O'Reilly Jack Ikel Sam Reinhardt's you
want to say no like oh no it's can't happen again
is it happening again the Buffalo Sabres with Dylan Cousins nice goal by Josh
Noir I think it's kind of happening again.
Yeah it might be.
So look for that one.
We got Tampa facing off against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Sammy Erson starts Rasmus Ristelanen is out.
Tristan Jari between the pipes for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
They face off against the St. Louis Blues.
VGK and CBJ facing off at Nationwide tonight.
I tell you I don't cheer for teams but
man it's really hard not to cheer for the Columbus Blue Jackets this year.
Just keep this great story rolling. Just keep this great story rolling.
Oilers facing off against the New Jersey Devils. Who are the Edmonton Oilers?
Philly I don't know but they're in the same spiral right now that Jay Woodcroft
was in when he got punted. I don't know if they make the same decision here. I'm sure somewhere Jay Woodcroft is looking at
this and saying hmm interesting. See if they can pull themselves out of this
spin. Oilers and Devils, Jacob Markstrom gets to start on this one. Rangers and
the Minnesota Wild, Washington and Los Angeles. Yes, it is OV Watch that continues. An empty net OV Watch. How about
that the other night? He turns up the empty netter so Protus can get a hat trick.
I know. It's like goes to everything with what we've learned about this guy, about how
we just love seeing other people score. Yeah. If you get a hat trick, I'm chasing Wayne
Gretzky. Nah. Take it. Go ahead.
And there's she in the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the San Jose Sharks.
Is that a game or a win is a loss?
Yes.
You get these words the end of the season.
Win is a loss here.
This is the inverse four point game.
This is the backwards four point game.
The coaches are in the room, or I guess they're not.
It would be like GMs ahead of time.
The coaches are.
The GMs are sitting in the room, they're like,
this one is a huge swing tonight, boys.
So many managers that have been like,
I'm not gonna say it publicly, man,
but I really, really hope we lose tonight.
Yeah. We could really not use these points today. All right
There's a program for today. Hope you enjoyed Smitty Smitty was great as always
Yeah, your your tweets were fantastic. And and again, we'll see what happens with Connor's area here
I'm I'm guessing it's two and if there's an injury three

Full schedule games tonight. Enjoy some of these matchups around the NHL Philly anything you want to add before we we shuffle off here today

platform, listening in the archive, watching in the archive.
Thank you for your attention, as always.
Tomorrow is Friday, and that means Brian Burke.
So Burke is aboard.
And the good thing about having Burke on Fridays, as we've found, is we can kind of do the week
in review and go over all the hot button topics and stories that happen throughout the week
and get Burke's take on them.
We'll know about Connor's area with the time the show rolls around tomorrow.
All right, that's it.
Merrick out, Philly out.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Some of you will do your homework and watch the Chiefs.
Others will put it off to the weekend and all of that is fine.
But please someone tell me whatever happened to Tim Lavek?
That's the one question I have for all of you.
With that, good afternoon, good evening, good morning, wherever you are, we'll talk to you in five minutes. Every day this week, every day this month I can't get out my head
Lost all ambitions day to day
Guess I can call it a ride
I went to the dark man
He tried to give me a little medicine
I'm like, nah man, that's fine
I'm out against those methods, but I knew
It's me, myself and how this gon' be fixing my mind
I turn on the back end
I turn on the music
I turn on the back end
I turn on the music
It's turned up, down, out of control, time's losing Helping on the days that went wrong There's still nothing about it but you're sometimes losing
