Starting point is 00:00:00 years ago there was an nhl referee by the name of mickey ian who was an accomplished lacrosse player in his youth and a hockey official he started out working the pacific coast league for the legendary patrick family and eventually made his way to the national hockey league and mickey was one of the greatest ever and one of the first officials to enter the hockey hall of fame now when mickey was working with younger, he would gather at Center Ice before the start of the game, hold up the game puck and say, boys, you need to remember one thing tonight. When I drop this puck, we become the only sane people in this arena.
Starting point is 00:00:42 And that's hockey. It's big. It's dumb. It's awesome. It's emotional. And more than any other sport, it occupies that space in our body between what our head knows and our heart feels. Hey, it's Jeff. And I'm finally back doing what I love, talking hockey with you. And I'm really glad to be back. And for the first time in my career, I can finally say I'm doing what I want. You know, when I first started speaking with the Nation Network, they asked me what I wanted to do, what I was interested in. I said a daily show in the podcast and video space.
Starting point is 00:01:16 Done. And I want to do something with hockey history. Done. And I want to do a blog. Done. And I want to do something with hockey books and hockey documentaries. Done. And I want to do a blog. Done. And I want to do something with hockey books and hockey documentaries. Done. And I want to do something with prospects in junior hockey. Done. And I want to do something with women's hockey, the PWHL. Done. And I want to do it with people who eat,
Starting point is 00:01:40 sleep, and breathe hockey. People who wake up every day and live their passion. And that's The Sheet. And it all starts with this daily show. The base of The Sheet is curiosity, wonder its fuel. And don't worry, there's still plenty of weird hockey stuff I find interesting along the way. More like the legend of Porky Palmer and his phantom assists from behind the Zamboni doors of the odd in Buffalo. Or that Jordan Tutu was born on February 2nd. Yes, Tutu was born on Tutu. And how Corey Conacher named his dog Holtby after the first NHL goalie he scored on. Sorry, Braden.
Starting point is 00:02:19 And the world still does need someone to hate on the hockey song. Might as well be me. That's my job. And yes, we have a good goal still bothers me as does slot area as opposed to the slots pre-scouting as opposed to scouting or pre-planning for that matter and going forward as opposed to going backwards going backwards we're going to take this team to a whole new level oh and glass bangers a special place in hell for them. Let's get that out of the way. I'm looking forward to doing all of this on this show. Thanks to everyone who hung in there with me over the last few months. I really appreciate it. Thanks to everyone at the Nation Network for opening this door for me. And I look forward to working with all my new colleagues at Daily Face
Starting point is 00:03:03 Up. One more quick story. Maybe you've heard this one before. Once upon a time, there was a little boy who went up to his mom and said, Mom, when I grow up, I want to be a hockey player. His mother looked down at her little boy, smiled and said, That's great, son, but you can't do both. Join me on the sheet right here. Let's unlearn something daily,
Starting point is 00:03:26 never grow up, and just talk about hockey.
