Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a Dear Media production. Okay, so this episode is brought to you by Omax. The Skinny Confidential team loves Omax. And as you guys know, we are huge omega-3 fans. Omax 3 has some of the purest omega-3 supplements on the market. And did you guys know that 75% of Americans don't get enough omega-3 in their diet? There's probably a strong chance that you're one of them. Omega-3s help improve your mental focus, memory, and cardiovascular health. If you guys want a free box, go to tryomax.com slash skinny today to get a box of Omega-3s. Okay, guys, that's tryomax.com slash skinny to get your free box of Omega-3s. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to The Skinny Confidential, him and her. Aha!
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hey guys, welcome back to the Skinny Confidential Him and Her podcast. But today it's just her. You have me. No Michael. So Michael and I are upping our podcast episodes to six a month. And you guys can expect interviews like always. We'll probably do like four interviews a month. And then we're also going to have two episodes that are more focused on either me or on Michael or us together or doing call-ins with our audience.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Ray, I know you said you're going to set up a Skinny Confidential hotline where they can leave messages, right? So excited about that. You guys will be able to call in, ask any questions, and we'll be able to share them on air and really get into it with you guys. So I think six a month will be more fun and just more content for you guys. So today, the episode I am doing all by myself has to do with self-care. I thought I would do this without Michael because he needs to up his self-care game, so hopefully he's listening. And instead of just giving you guys sort of a list of how I self-care, I'm going to walk you through the perfect day. So obviously I don't hit every single one of these things every day. I mean, you know, I'm definitely not perfect. But if you guys can take some of the
Starting point is 00:02:33 value or tips out of this quote unquote, perfect day and apply it to your own life, I would be happy. You know, you can kind of pick and choose and tailor this to you. You can leave what you don't like, take what you like, test out different things. And, you know, DM me and let me know how you like it. So again, this is the perfect day. These are some things that I do every day. But it's also some things that I do once a week or once a month or even once a year. But there are things that I do to take a step back and focus on myself for a minute and not what other people need. I think that we can get to a point in our lives where we are constantly beating to the tune of other people's time and we don't take a step back and really focus on
Starting point is 00:03:24 ourselves. And especially with social media, it's so easy to get wrapped up in what everyone else is doing and not sort of focus on ourselves. And some of us, you know, are moms, we're fathers, and we put our kids first. But I just, I'm a huge believer that self-care is one of the most important things you can do. I don't think you can be the best version of you if you don't take time for yourself. You're going to be a better mom, a better dad, a better sister, a better friend if you're able to step back and do things that make you happy. So a lot of people, like I said, ignore it, but it's important to sort of have that balance so a lot of you guys reached out over instagram when i posted a picture about how i was having anxiety i wrote a little caption
Starting point is 00:04:13 underneath it and i think a lot of that anxiety comes when i don't do preventative measures to sort of nip it in the bud so tim feriss always says that instead of letting his anxiety get so bad, he does all these little things to make it so it never acts up or flares up. And the second that I get anxiety, I can tell that I'm not implementing enough self-care. Okay, so we are going to start with how I like to wake up. And these are things that might seem overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it and you start doing it every day, it's very easy to squeeze it in. So I don't want you guys to feel overwhelmed from this. Again, maybe you have a notebook out and you can just take notes on what you like and maybe make a section of ones you love and ones you don't love. So the
Starting point is 00:05:05 first thing that I do when I wake up and literally the second I open my eyes, it's the first three things I do are light movement and hydration. And if you listen to the Aubrey Marcus podcast, I got those tips from him. So literally my eyes open and I think, okay, light movement hydration. I open my shades immediately. I get up, open the shades. So I'm immediately getting that light. I'm not baking in the sun. You know, you know, we're not there yet. I don't like to do that, but I like to let the light into my room. And if Michael will let me, or if he's out of town, I'll actually sleep with the shades open because I feel like the whole thing about your circadian rhythm, just letting the light flow into your house is a very
Starting point is 00:05:53 natural way to wake up. There's nothing worse than your alarm going off and disrupting your sleep and it being sort of jarring. I feel like that ups your cortisol. And the last thing that I want to do is wake up with tons of cortisol. I feel like I have cortisol going through me all day because my life is so chaotic with what I do that the last thing that I don't want to wake up and hop out of bed with tons of stress. So I'm very curated on how I wake up. So the shades are open. And then I go to the kitchen and I get a liter of water. Don't ask me why it just has to be a liter. And I grab pink Himalayan salt and the salt is for electrolytes. And the reason that I've chosen Himalayan pink salt is that it contains calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium. It was recommended by my friend,
Starting point is 00:06:46 Ingrid, shout out. In France, she swears by it. She says it's the best salt. The one I got has no GMOs. It's awesome. And it's just in this little bowl on my counter. And I just do a few pinches into my water. So you're getting minerals right away. And then I use lemon organic and I slice it in half, not doing anything fancy with a lemon squeezer. And I just, you know, squeeze it into my water. Now there's seeds floating everywhere. Again, I'm not fancy. I got to go.
Starting point is 00:07:15 I'm doing my best here. I'm doing, I'm for the girl who's, who's GTG. Okay. She's got to go. So my reason for lemon is that it improves your digestion, which is awesome, and it reduces the risk of acidity. It also relieves constipation, boosts the immune system. It's great for weight loss. It does everything from relieve canker sores to lower stress. There's just so many good benefits of lemon. So waking up with that lemon
Starting point is 00:07:45 water with the Himalayan salt is just a way that I like to start my day. So what I do is I take my liter of water, lemon and salt, to my bed and I just quickly, and I mean quickly, I'm talking like two to three minutes stretch on my bed. And when I say on my bed, I mean I'm like pulling off my bed, stretching, doing like a quick yoga move, downward dog, just to get a little bit of blood flow. After I do that, I get back in my bed. Now, this may be like not the right thing for you. I know Michael likes to sit, but I meditate in bed. And the reason I like to meditate in bed is because I have my Barefoot Dreams blanket, the Kardashian blanket that I've told you guys about, the Sleopard. And I like to meditate in bed is because I have my Barefoot Dreams blanket, the Kardashian blanket that I've told you guys about. It's leopard. And I like to wrap it around me and I like to drink
Starting point is 00:08:27 my entire liter of water while I'm meditating for 10 minutes. Michael is very opposite. He puts his noise canceling headphones on. He goes in his office and he sits in a chair with his feet on the ground. I get cold and you know, I like my blanket. So I like to keep my meditation very comfortable. And I turn on Headspace. And if you're listening and you're I like my blanket. So I like to keep my meditation very comfortable. And I turn on Headspace. And if you're listening and you're like, fuck, I don't want to meditate. I don't have time to meditate. What a buzzkill.
Starting point is 00:08:53 You just sit there. You're not being productive. Meditation is amazing. It sets the tone of my day. I can tell when I've taken 10 minutes to myself in the morning, how different my attitude is. I'm less emotional, I'm more logical, I'm more calm, I'm less reactive. I think that if you're looking to kind of break into meditation, I would recommend Headspace. There's something about the app that's so therapeutic, his voice. I wish I could do the accent, but I'm so bad at it. I
Starting point is 00:09:25 won't do it. It's just like very soothing. And he walks you through the meditation and kind of guides you through it. And he gives you a message for the day. Like today's message was that I need to put my phone down a little bit more and step away from it. And for me, that's a good reminder. I have had some of my most favorite business ideas in my meditation. I've had epiphanies about friendships or family while meditating. I really try not to think about anything, but at the same time, I'm not forcing myself not to think of something. So the guy that does Headspace describes it like you're inside your house and you're looking out into a storm and the storm's going and everything's happening and trees are flying, but you're still inside the house. So that's how you meditate. You step outside of all your issues or your problems or your life and you just observe it. And that's what I've tried to do in
Starting point is 00:10:26 my meditations. I am definitely not going to sit here and say I just sit there and don't think of one thing. There's thoughts that that fly through my brain the whole time. But the point is, is I'm taking that that 10 minutes to myself in the morning with my lemon water. So after I meditate, I get right up and I go straight to the bathroom and I do tongue cleaning. Now, a lot of people say you're supposed to do tongue cleaning before you drink water in the morning because you don't want to swallow the bacteria. But I'm going to be honest here. I usually do it after the water, which I should probably start doing it before. So tongue cleaning, I can never not clean my tongue after having an Ayurvedic specialist,
Starting point is 00:11:06 Sahara Rose, on the podcast. I have a steel tongue cleaner. It's by Wowie. And there's so much bacteria on the tongue. And once you start cleaning the tongue, you almost can't believe that you haven't done it your whole life. It's like you can't believe that you've been brushing your teeth but neglecting the tongue. It's almost like you paint every single nail on your hand besides your thumbs for your whole life. That's how big of an epiphany it was for me. So I clean my tongue. I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush. I use Quip. It's this super chic rose gold toothbrush. And I use Quip rose gold toothbrush. It sticks to my mirror. It's super toothbrush. And I use Quip rose gold toothbrush. It sticks to my mirror. It's super chic.
Starting point is 00:11:48 And I use Dr. Bronner's toothpaste to get super specific with you. I like the mint one. It's all natural. It's great. You got your tongue cleaning situation going. Your teeth are cleaned. And now I take my vitamins. And I have a D3.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Another standout one that I like to take is Omax 3. Okay, guys, Omega 3s are it. They're hot. Kristen Cavallari raved about them on her episode. You got to listen to that one. And I have finally found one that's TSC approved, like master list approved. Okay. Mainly because this one, which is called omax 3 ultra pure doesn't give
Starting point is 00:12:25 you fish burps i can't stand a fish burp i don't want to smell like fish i don't want to taste like fish i don't want fish on my tongue in fact i probably scraped my tongue so i'd like to avoid that at all cost you guys should know that omega-3s have been touted as one of the healthiest supplements there are but a lot of people have questioned whether this is sort of too good to be true. So Omax has decided to give you guys a box for free to try. You can try it, test it, give it a whirl, fall in love and see for yourself. Be your own guru, right? Make sure you visit tryomax.com slash skinny to get a box for free. Again, that's tryomax.com slash skinny for a free box. And let me give you a little background. So over 75% of Americans don't get enough omega-3 in their diet.
Starting point is 00:13:12 This includes Michael. Trust me, I can really tell he needed them because he was always complaining about how sore he was after he worked out. And omega-3s really help to relieve joint pain and muscle soreness. They make you feel amazing, especially after a workout. They also help improve focus and memory, and they boost your cardiovascular health. All insane little benefits. So after some research, I found that a lot of the top sellers don't contain enough omega-3s to give you those results. Omax-3 is clinically tested, so it's safe for you and your family. Like, send those kids off to school with a cute lunchbox and some omega-3s, you know?
Starting point is 00:13:51 But again, my favorite part, I have to go back to this because I can't even deal, is that you don't get fish burps. No one wants to smell like a fish. Anyway, there's so many omega-3s on the market, but this one is the most pure, the most potent, and the most concentrated one. So whether you're a badass mom, a full-time student, a busy boss, whatever, almost anyone can benefit from Omax 3's Ultra Pure. You're going to notice effects quickly. I feel like my focus is something that can go kind of off and I get distracted. And I think adding an omega-3 really helps. For your free fancy box, go to tryomax.com slash skinny today to get a box of
Starting point is 00:14:33 omax-3 ultra pure. That's tryomax.com slash skinny to get your free box of omax-3. Guys, try it. Let me know what you think. Give it a whirl. Give it to your boyfriend. Whatever you got to do, get those omega-3s in his diet. By the way, you should also know Omax 3 comes with a $60 money-back guarantee, so you have plenty of time to try it out and really feel the difference. Terms and conditions apply. But after I take my vitamins, I make the bed. And the reason I do this is again I think this is setting the tone for the day so I like to think of myself and this may sound stupid to some people but this is what works for me as an athlete in my business I need to be performing whether that's
Starting point is 00:15:18 doing video or podcasts or creating content or writing and to to be able to perform, I need to sort of, I guess, train and set up the day. So what I do in the morning is the foundation of everything that happens afterwards. And I think that no matter what you do, you're sort of an athlete. If you're a mom, you're an athlete. You need to set yourself up and get yourself in the right headspace. So waking up without the phone is like super important to me. Now the phone is kind of involved passively and I'll tell you why. So I make the bed and why I'm making the bed, I'm listening to a podcast. I'm not actually on my phone, but I am consuming knowledge. So I'm starting my day with some kind of podcast like
Starting point is 00:16:00 Tim Ferriss or Gary Vee. Who else do I like? How I built this. I'm just getting really, really inspired as I make the bed. It takes me five minutes to make the bed. I know exactly how I like it. Boone always jumps on the bed. Every single time he has this weird tick where he has to jump on the bed. So he's on the bed. I want Michael out of my hair. I don't want him to help me. And I just make the bed exactly how I like it while I'm listening to my podcast. Now, this whole routine that I just told you so far, we're about, I would say we're about 20 minutes in. After I make the bed, I'm still listening to my podcast. I like to walk. Okay. So I am a big fan of counting my steps. And the reason being is I think of it as like an accountability coach. You're checking in with yourself to see how many steps you've taken. I mean, there's been days
Starting point is 00:16:51 where I've looked at how many steps I've walked and it's only been 800 because I've been sitting behind a computer. That's not healthy. It's not productive. So I was like, how can I implement walking more into my day? So what I do is I walk to the coffee shop every morning. If I'm in LA, I walk to Alfred's. If I'm in San Diego, I walk to the West Bean. I listen to my podcast while I'm walking so I'm not consumed on social media. I'm still getting my heart rate up, walking, moving. I get a coffee and it's the same coffee every single day.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I get a hot cappuccino with cinnamon and unsweetened almond milk and I would do cashew milk if they had it but they don't and sometimes I'll also get like a blood orange iced tea or a nice green tea something like a tea with it and I take my coffee and my tea and I walk back home while listening to my podcast. Once I get home, I, in a perfect world, remember this is a perfect world, guys. This is not every single day. I would like to work out. And I usually work out with Kim Kelly, who we do the body guide with. She, we do an hour in my gym that's underneath. It's kind of like in the basement of our complex. Or I work out with my friend Ingrid. You guys have seen her on Instagram stories. And we do sort of like a mat bar workout. She has this amazing thing called the method. It's awesome. And it really
Starting point is 00:18:21 like lengthens you. Or I'll go take a Pilates class. So I'll do one of those three things. I do like working out though in my house or in the gym underneath my house because it's efficient, right? I get my coffee and I just can go work out. I like working out on just coffee in the morning. That's my favorite thing to do. I don't like to eat a huge breakfast and then work out. It's just not my thing. And that's been a lot of trial and error, right? Like everything that I'm telling you about has been something where I am like this human guinea pig.
Starting point is 00:18:54 I've tried and see and I'll write down how I feel afterwards or I'll remember and just I just try to really practice mind body connection and see what's best for me. And I find that if I can work out in the morning around eight o'clock after a coffee, I feel great. And again, I've had a liter of water too. So I just feel awesome. After my workout, I'll get something to eat. And again, this is all playing into self-care, right? A workout is self-care. Making the bed is self-care. Even a cappuccino with cinnamon is self-care. It's not running out the door, grabbing coffee. It's not getting your cortisol up. So after my workout, I will grab something to eat. Like I said, I'll turn on my oil diffuser.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I'm obsessed with tangerine. It's so good in the morning. It kind of zings you and wakes you up. I'll turn on bossa nova music and I'll cook something for breakfast and whether that's I like f-factor brand buds I like eggs I like a green smoothie probably one of those things I've I found that that all the successful people that I've listened to on podcast or read about in books are very much creatures of habit they do do the same things. And when they don't have a lot of choices, it's less overwhelming. I think as a creator, I have to be making decisions all day long. So with breakfast, I'm super like about keeping it very, very simple. I don't want to do anything crazy. I want the same thing kind of every day. So it's usually one of those three. The brand buds
Starting point is 00:20:26 are fiber brand buds and you can find the recipe on the Skinny Confidential if you google the Skinny Confidential collagen brand buds. The recipe is by Tanya Zuckerbrot and I'll do berries in there or I'll do, like I said, eggs or a green smoothie. And you can also Google the Skinny Confidential Green Smoothie and it tells you all about it. So then I clean up and I'm very much about a clean house and a clean space. I cannot focus on my work if I don't have a clean space. And I've been like that ever since I was little. I'm either extremely messy on a Sunday where everything is just everywhere, or I'm so clean, it's obnoxious and maybe slightly OCD. And I'm not just saying that as a word, I'm actually being serious. I think I have a little bit of OCD, like all the labels have to be turned out. It's very clean. So I'll clean up the kitchen, I'll clean up my house,
Starting point is 00:21:20 and I time block this. So I'll take my dice that I've told you guys about. It's on the Skinny Confidential Master List and it's this dice that's $19 off Amazon that everyone should have that times you. So I'll give myself 20 minutes to clean the house. If you're in a hurry, you could do 10, you could do five. But the point is, is you've put in a little bit of effort towards just cleaning your space, right? It's your space that you live in. And that to me right there is it's self-care. I have my oils going, my candles going, my music going, and then it's time for a shower. So very specific about my shower. And the reason being is that I've read a lot of research on what I'm about to tell you. And I've also interviewed a lot of high performance individuals who have told me how important it is to get cold. Okay. So in a perfect world,
Starting point is 00:22:13 I would have a cryotherapy in my house and go in it every single day for three minutes or a plunge pool like Tony Robbins has. I would plunge in there and get cold for three minutes. But normally, I don't have time to go to cryotherapy. If I do, great. If I don't, I do a hot, cold shower. And what that is, is you get in the shower and you do what you need to do. I usually am doing a tongue cleaning situation again because I drank coffee. I have another tongue cleaner in the shower. They're all over my fucking house. I mean, I've sprinkled that shit in Michael's dop kit. It's by his bed. There's one in the shower. It's like a hint. It's like, yo, you need to clean your tongue. So there's one in our shower. I'll use that. And then I will wash my body and wash my face sometimes. Okay., sometimes I normally just cleanse my face at night lately. I find over cleansing the face strips the oils.
Starting point is 00:23:10 And for me, I just feel in the morning, I don't need to wash my face. I already did this extensive skincare routine at night. I just kind of splash water on it. Usually if I am cleansing my face, which is once in a while, I'll usually use an oil cleanser or Elemis's. It's like this balm. It's like this yellow balm. It's insane.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I'll have to get the name. I'll put it on a blog post. But those are the two things I use if I'm cleansing my face in the morning. So hot, cold shower. So it's hot until I do all my stuff and then I'll turn it to freezing fucking cold, like freezing cold for as long as I can possibly handle it. Obviously, it's not more than like two and a half minutes, but it's it's as long as I can handle it. And what that does is it wakes me up and I kind of move around in the
Starting point is 00:23:56 shower and like this sounds weird, but I hit my chest or like tap my arms and get my blood flow and circulation going. And where I learned about hitting yourself is actually Shanghai. My friend went to Shanghai and he noticed that in parks or in gyms where people work out, they were walking around hitting their chest, hitting their arms, hitting their legs. And he asked someone, you know, what are they doing? And they said they're getting their lymphatic system going. And again, if you look at high performers, they're all about that lymphatic system. Tony Robbins jumps on a mini trampoline every morning. I know that Aubrey Marcus is all about movement. The lymphatic system
Starting point is 00:24:37 is really important and it wakes you up. Another thing that I do a lot while I'm in the freezing cold is dry brush. And I actually like to dry brush while I'm in the shower. I know you're supposed to do it outside of the shower, but I have this like super strong brush that's actually a dishwasher brush that I got at the container store that I like to use when it's freezing cold. And honestly, no bullshit. When you are in the freezing cold for two minutes or two and a half minutes and you are using a super strong brush on your body brushing up towards the heart you will wake up
Starting point is 00:25:13 it is nuts it's like it's like a shot of crack okay so you got to try that after the shower i get out um quickly all of this is done quickly guys guys. This isn't like, you know, I'm in a bubble bath, like with my feet up. This is we got to go. We got to be efficient. We got to be quick. I get out and I do my skincare. And if you know me, you know me and you know, I am serious about my skincare. I do not screw around. Okay. Skin is it's like my thing. I just think that especially when you're in front of the camera, I want to lead with my skin and not have to cover my skin up with all this makeup. I don't care how old you are. I don't care if you're a guy or a girl. Skincare should be a part of your day. And I have a friend, Weston, little side note, that didn't do any skincare. And I explained to him how important
Starting point is 00:26:05 it is and how it's, again, about self-care. So I gave him a bunch of products and I said, try these for me. I want to see if you like them. And I gave him a routine and wrote down what to do and when to do it. And I saw him the other day and his skin is glowy. It's like a disco ball. It looks so good. I swear his fine lines have dissipated and I'm just really proud of him. So I thought I would shout him out. Anyways, I do my skincare out of the shower. And if you haven't seen my skincare routine, you can go to my YouTube channel and just
Starting point is 00:26:38 check out the Skinny Confidential skincare. And there's like a whole routine. And again, that routine probably takes me a total of at most seven minutes I get out I slap a mandelic serum on my face Michael loves this one too it's by face reality and then I'll do oils a moisturizer an eye cream facial massage a lot of facial massage manipulation and this became a part of my routine because I have talked about this before, but I had double jaw surgery. And the only way I found to really truly get the inflammation down is through the foods I eat and facial massage.
Starting point is 00:27:16 So facial manipulation, in my opinion, is the most underrated thing ever. It's again playing into that lymphatic system and letting the fluid flush out of your face. So when you wake up, you know how you're puffy or you feel maybe hungover or your eyes are puffy. That facial manipulation is just going to get all of that out. So I kind of use the skincare routine as a time to move my face and really wake it up. After that, I obviously, you guessed it, put sunscreen on. I use a caffeinated sunscreen. You guys know the one I like, it's off Amazon.
Starting point is 00:27:56 And I just feel like it tightens your face, which is exactly what I want. And depends on the day if I put makeup on or not. It may look like I put makeup on every single day. I don't. I probably give my skin four days off. I'm not a super snobby about wearing makeup every single day. In fact, I really prefer to go without it. And if I'm going without it, and let's say in my perfect day I am, I throw in a hat because you know how I am about the sun. So as you can see, we're at the point in the day I have not really been on my phone, which is probably pretty shocking because my phone's attached to my hip. But I have found that when I start my day with my phone,
Starting point is 00:28:40 my cortisol and stress is off the charts. and it actually is a hindrance instead of being productive. I can be way more productive if I practice the self-care in the morning. And that again is trial and error. I get dressed for the day, not super bougie about what I wear. It's like I got to go. I'm not, I'm not, you know, picking out 20 outfits. I'm usually not in heels. Today I am because I had a meeting, but I'm just usually like to be comfortable. You know, picking out 20 outfits. I'm usually not in heels. Today I am because I had a meeting, but I'm just usually like to be comfortable. You know, sometimes I'm wearing the same leggings from last night. You never know. It just depends on the day. Since we're talking about self-care, one of the things that really gets my self-care going is ordering groceries online. Like I don't
Starting point is 00:29:22 want to go to the market. I want to be effective with my time. And I feel like ordering online is just the best. It's the way to do it. It's 2018. Okay. So did you guys know that you get $60 of free groceries from Thrive? I should also mention that it's free shipping. Okay. There's three items that I added last week to my cart and they're all things that you guys need to try and I feel like this is all in line with the whole self-care thing okay the first one is make sure you get the avocado mayo I mean you can't go wrong I've been looking for a mayo substitute since the dinosaur age and I haven't found one that I liked and this one changed the game if
Starting point is 00:30:01 you're an egg salad lover like me, this avocado mayo is for you. I make the best egg salad sandwiches with this. Don't mean to brag, but the Nans, aka my grandma, gave me the recipe and I've been subbing her mayo out with this one. It's by Primal Kitchen, okay? And it's a hit. Another thing that you guys have to try is native forest coconut milk. Okay, wake up, throw a little in your coffee, add some cinnamon.
Starting point is 00:30:26 This specific gem is hard to find, but of course Thrive Market has it. You can add it to your smoothie. Like I said, your coffee, your oatmeal, your cereal, whatever. I like this brand specifically because there's no added crap in it. It's the only one I found that doesn't have a bunch of gums in it. You know what I mean? They also have my favorite candy on the planet. If you follow me on social media, you know I am absolutely obsessed with Yum Earth Candy. It's really the best candy ever. I'm a huge fan of the peach licorice. They also have pomegranate licorice.
Starting point is 00:30:59 So it doesn't really taste like licorice. The taste is more like this peachy, melt-in-your-mouth, not-too-sweet, delicious candy. I like to mix this one or the pomegranate licorice in with popcorn, little salt, a little Himalayan salt. If we're getting specific, it's so good. You guys have to try it. And I actually keep a bunch in my handbag or my car for when we go to the movies, instead of eating like a bunch of crap, I pull out my yum yum earth candy. It's just all too good. The popcorn, the movies, the pomegranate licorice, maybe some peach. I'm really in heaven.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Michael's more of a sour twist guy. Anyway, for those of you who are not familiar with Thrive, Thrive Market is a one-stop shop for high-end, high-quality, and highly discounted groceries, supplements, beauty products, and household supplies. Okay, all in one. Thrive Market guarantees its customers 25 to 50% below retail on all items because it cuts out the middleman. Thrive Market is offering all TSC, him and her listeners, $60 in free groceries and free shipping with a one month trial. All you have to do is go to thrivemarket.com slash skinny. So it's a URL. That's thrivemarket.com
Starting point is 00:32:06 slash skinny. The thing that I personally like about Thrive is I can grab my Annie's mac and cheese, my rosemary spray, add it all to my cart, maybe throw in some peach licorice, a little avocado mayo, you know, a side of native forest coconut milk. I'm telling you, Thrive is great. It works. The categories are organized. They have a paleo section, gluten-free, health, babies, pets, snacks, the works. You just don't have to go to the grocery store because it's a waste of time, right? I hate wasting time. You guys know I like to be strategic with my time. So go to thrivemarket.com slash skinny and throw in some avo mayo, coconut milk, and peach licorice. Do it.
Starting point is 00:32:46 So after I'm dressed, and the reason I get dressed is because I want to set the tone of my day, even if I'm working from home. Because if I'm in my pajamas all day, and again, trial and error, I feel that it sets kind of a, I don't know, lazy tone. You know, I want to be, I want to be motivated and productive. So now I get into my emails, my DMs, my conference calls. And the way that I do this is I time batch. And this also goes into self-care. And I'll tell you why. When you time batch, you're not all over the place. You're focused on one thing at once. And so you're actually looking out for yourself. You're not frazzled. You're not all over the place. With my emails, I sit down, I do an hour of emails in the morning and an hour at night. And I time that. Again, this is the perfect day. Sometimes things come up. This is my ideal
Starting point is 00:33:38 day. And then I do DMs and I go in and I, you know, engage with my community for at least a half an hour in the morning. I think it's really, really important to answer as many questions as I can. I can't answer every single one physically without other people answering it. And I don't, I don't kind of want my team to be in my Instagram account. It just feels super personal. I want to be able to actually engage myself. So I sit there and I answer questions and engage and just see what you guys are up to and really just pay attention to what the community is doing. I go in the secret Facebook group. I see what's happening. I might have conference calls. Usually I don't though, because I time batch my conference calls. So I try to schedule all my conference calls on a Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:34:27 So I just looked at my schedule before I did this podcast. And next Wednesday, I literally have 20 conference calls because we pack it into one day. That day is it's pretty overwhelming because your brain's switching from each call. But at least I don't have them spread out all through the week, which is it's annoying. Like when you're trying to podcast and then immediately you have to jump into a conference call and then you're trying to write a blog post and then right after that you have to hop into a conference call. It's, it plays tricks on you when you just can do it in one day. I find it's more productive. So I'll do emails, I'll do DMs, I'll go into Slack. We, we have a Slack channel with my team
Starting point is 00:35:02 where I can, you know, talk and make sure I'm working on the business and not in the business. Or we'll have meetings, you know, every day is different. Sometimes we have podcast interviews. Sometimes I'm writing a blog post. Sometimes I'm, you know, again, working on the business, building bigger picture things. It just depends. Every day is super different. So we're talking about self-care, not business. So I won. Every day is super different. So we're talking about
Starting point is 00:35:26 self-care, not business. So I won't go too crazy on that. I'll do a whole podcast on time batching, I feel like. So now it's time for lunch, let's say. Okay. This is a tip that I got from my friend, again, Ingrid. She thinks it's really important to lower the cortisol. So what I've started doing is I get lunch and I sit down and I put my phone aside. Okay. So now at this point, lunch is like, it's later, right? It's probably like 1.30 or 2. And I put my phone away for a minute and I eat my salad. I love, I love Joan's Chinese chicken salad with no wontons, grilled chicken, sometimes not grilled, sometimes the fried's too good, with a side of lemon. It's so good. And I get like an unsweetened iced tea,
Starting point is 00:36:12 and then I'll sprinkle Gigi sprinkles on top. Nothing better. I'll sit and I'll eat my salad, and I'll really try to lower the stress, okay? Because again, I know it's hard. It's kind of hard to explain, but things are being thrown at me all day different questions you have to make quick decisions it's like constant stimulation from social media again I'm doing lots of water all day big self-care thing I try try try doesn't happen always to drink three liters a day if I do I, I notice a difference in my skin, which is annoying because everyone always says drink water and then we like don't actually do it. But then when we do, we can we can tell a difference. And any time that there's like a point in the day where I'm feeling
Starting point is 00:36:56 anxious or anxiety, or maybe I feel even emotional because I got an email that was upsetting. Instead of responding, I find that it's best to be logical. And how I'm logical is I take a step back, take a step out of it, detach from the problem, and go take a walk, listen to a podcast, get outside the situation so I can gain perspective. Just want to throw that in because I know sometimes people will be working nine to five and maybe, I don't know, you get in a fight with a co-worker maybe someone like didn't do the dishes your roommate whatever it is like take a step back and detach so you can be logical with your approach to the situation so work day we're still working we're going emails, whatever it is, meetings, and then it's time to go home. So again, perfect day. Usually I write at night and I'll tell you why. The day is so much interacting with the community
Starting point is 00:37:56 or interviews or I don't know, photo shoots, whatever the day throws at me that to be able to sit down in my house with no distraction and have it quiet at night when business hours are turned off is extremely therapeutic and as a writer and being a writer is definitely probably my my number one favorite thing to do I'm I'm very specific with how I like it so um I like to write later. So I'll usually write at night. And this is after I've eaten dinner. Okay, I'm in bed, maybe I'm writing a little bit. I try to write away from Michael because it's so annoying. I'll be writing and he has like 500 questions and wants to, you know, break down why there's aliens on Mars or whatever he asked me, you never know. So I try to write with like my headphones on or to bossa nova or just in a very calm,
Starting point is 00:38:56 relaxing environment. And there's something about the nighttime that just gets me extremely creative. I'm way more creative at night than in the morning. And then again, I'll go and do a half an hour of DMs. And I've really feel like I've built my business off doing this. And I know maybe DMs don't really play into self-care, but in a way it does. Because when I'm talking to you guys and to the people that have supported me, there's something about seeing the interaction and just feeling like I've contributed. And it makes me feel good. It makes me feel good to talk to you guys. And I mean, I don't know. I just like interacting with you and hearing about what you're doing. And just it makes me feel grateful is the word that I'm looking for. So DMs are just really important. I think I think
Starting point is 00:39:45 they're important to keep the conversation open. And the community is just fucking badass, you know. Okay, so after I have sort of wound down from social media, I make it a point to do certain self-care things. And one of the things I do is get into my hotel robe. Okay. My hotel robe is this big plush robe. I did a whole blog post dedicated on my hotel robe. There's something just really nice about coming home after working all day and just letting your fat gut hang out. You know what I mean? Just letting everything hang out. I told Michael, I was like, don't you just want to like let your balls hang out? Just like relax, you know, let everything hang. That's how I feel about a hotel robe. You don't need to like suck it in. You know, you know, when you're like at a stoplight and you unbutton your
Starting point is 00:40:35 jeans because it just feels so good. That's how I feel. It's the same feeling with a hotel robe. The one I have is gifted to me by Venus Floor. You could find anyone. Michael has one from the Wynn. I actually told his mom, I said, for Michael's birthday, you have to get him a hotel robe. So she went to the Wynn in Vegas and got him this amazing, comfortable, fluffy robe. I love a hotel robe at night. Okay. If you don't have one, try to go to a hotel and ask them if you can like buy it, I don't know whatever you got to do. So then I have my whole sort of self care sleeping routine. And this involves a couple things. First, it involves a little bit
Starting point is 00:41:19 of CBD oil. And if you haven't tried CBD oil, you should try it okay it's it's not weed I'm not a marijuana smoker I don't mind marijuana at all but for me I get severe anxiety and all I want to do is eat pink frosted cookies from Ralph's so I I'm not a weed smoker but CBD there's something different about it it's I don't think it's a drug but, but it's this little sort of vial of oil. And you put a couple drops underneath your tongue and it just promotes relaxation. I don't know if it's in my head, but I swear to God, it makes me sleepy. I just feel relaxed and chill, not high or anything. I mean, I don't want to start digging into the Flaming Hot
Starting point is 00:42:05 Cheetos. I just feel chill. And maybe I'll have a piece of dark chocolate. You never know. Popcorn, whatever. The popcorn that I like, just like a side note, is Trader Joe's Kettle Corn in the pink and white striped bag. Or I like Boom Boom Chica Popcorn. I'm probably saying it wrong, but I like those two brands for popcorn. And I get a cup of Calm Tea. Now, Calm Tea, we've talked about it 5 million times, but for those of you who don't know what it is, it's this powder that's a magnesium powder. And what magnesium does is it gets everything flowing for the next morning digestive system. And it's very calming, which shouldn't surprise you because it's called calm tea. I like the lemon raspberry flavor.
Starting point is 00:42:55 We'll leave it in the show notes. And so between the CBD oil and the calm tea, I'm starting to wind down. Hopefully not later than 11. But if I'm going to be really honest with you guys, sometimes it's 12 because I'm writing a blog post and sometimes it's one, depends how much work I have. So I really, if this is a perfect ideal day, I'm winding down before 11. Okay. Lewis Howes said that a productive morning starts the night before. And Lewis, I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:43:31 So, you know, maybe if you're going to have sex here, you could have sex. Just make sure you use woo because that's self-care. You know, it's a little healthy fat, coconut oil. You know, it's going to spruce up your sex life. And sex is self-care. I mean, you know, Michael, hint, hint, tonight, you want to get some self-care in? Maybe not with your hotel robe, though. It's a little bit too much. I also like an eye mask. Now, I was making fun of Michael for his, but now he's transformed me into a lover. It's this eye mask that covers all your eyes, so it blacks out the room okay there's something about a blacked out room
Starting point is 00:44:06 that is very helpful and I put my eye mask next to my retainer I know I still have a retainer because I'm psycho about straight teeth um next to my bed so I have my calm tea my retainer and my sleep mask all ready to go I'm like I planning, right guys? And then I grab my dogs. I think dogs are so much self-care. I know that sounds weird, but just being with a dog to me is so relaxing and again, therapeutic. And I read a book. Now, I would love to read a real book just because I like the smell and I'm such a reader. It's probably my favorite thing to do that I love a real book. But Michael goes to bed before me, which is so annoying. Michael, get on my sleep schedule. So usually I'm reading off my phone,
Starting point is 00:44:59 not an iPad, just my phone. And I switch between books depending on how I'm feeling. So I just finished Victoria Beckham's biography, learned all about her and David. And it was really cool to watch how she's built this empire out of the Spice Girls. So love books like that. I also love books that you're learning, right? Maybe that's Robert Greene. Ray, I know you love Robert Greene. Or maybe that's Tim Ferriss, Tony Robbins, whoever you like that just is going to really,
Starting point is 00:45:38 really teach you something. And sometimes it's something that's complete chiclet, right? And chiclet means like a beachy read. I just finished also Erica Jane's book that was more cheeky and easy and something that you can easily fall asleep to. Whatever it is, I like to read at night. There's something that makes me feel good about ending the night with a book. I find it productive. It's better than scrolling through social media. There's nothing worse, nothing worse than going to bed, scrolling through Instagram or Facebook. We've all been there. It's just, to me, it's such, I don't want to say negative, but it feels negative.
Starting point is 00:46:27 It feels like a negative way to end the day. There's something positive about ending the day reading. And if you're not a reader, you could put on noise-canceling headphones and listen to a podcast. You could put on noise-canceling headphones and listen to Headspace. My friend Nettie does that. Or you could say, hey, Alexa, yo, play bossa nova jazz music and just fall asleep to a little bossa nova. And maybe you just don't want anything. Maybe you just want to go to sleep. Hopefully your husband's not snoring. My husband doesn't snore, but my chihuahuas do.
Starting point is 00:46:57 So, you know, there's that. So that's kind of how I end my night I sleep on a silk pillowcase because I don't want wrinkles and if you've read the skinny confidential you know I am about that silk pillowcase the one I use was gifted by my dad to me it's this rose printed pillowcase that's so soft by the Roxy experience you could get any silk pillowcase here, but it's really, really good for your skin. If you think about it, you're sleeping on your pillow seven to nine hours a night and your skin is pressing into that pillowcase. For me, that is such a reason to have something that's really health and wellness based. I'm laying on this pillow for so long and I'm such a big fan of sleep that the pillowcase is extremely important. So before I go, I just want to give
Starting point is 00:47:53 you some things that I don't do every day that are self-care. Okay. These are things that, yeah, I'd love to do it every day, but that doesn't happen. Facials, you guys know, if I could get a facial every day, I would, and here's why. I get one uninterrupted hour to myself to work on my emails and return DMs and text with my team in my facial. My facialist is amazing, and she just lets me work while she works on my face, so I feel like I'm passively multitasking. I'm getting that self-care in and returning emails or getting Slack done or my to-do list. Now, there are some days where I need to disconnect and I'll just get a facial with no phone. So you got to feel it out here. This is all about mind-body connection, right? Another thing that is incredible for self-care is acupuncture. Okay? You do a little acupuncture. I like the facial
Starting point is 00:48:46 acupuncture and cupping, cupping and acupuncture together. It's probably, it's like taking a Xanax. Okay. You're so relaxed. I go to Taylor Taylor in Hillcrest. He's incredible. And he does the whole shebang. He does acupuncture. He does my cupping. He cups my legs. Shit, he cups my ass. Not in my ass, but on my ass. And my arms, everything. And it's just so much relief. So if you're experiencing anxiety or you need some self-care, try an acupuncturist. They're great. They also have herbs and all this magical witch doctor stuff. Another way is to do the chiropractor. Love a chiropractor, okay? For me, nothing better. I go to Fix in Hillcrest too. I go to Sean and Patrick. What up, Sean and Patrick, if you're listening? Tell them to give you the Skinny Confidential Special and I think they'll
Starting point is 00:49:39 comp your first treatment. Another way to self-care, guys, is just to get your beauty in, right? Whether that's a spray tan or a pedicure or a manicure, your hair done, go to dry bar, you know, do something for yourself where you walk out like you're walking out of a Pantene commercial, you know, you can work on your computer while you're getting a blowout. Just getting that self-care in with beauty makes you feel good. And when you look good, you feel good. And it all plays into it. I also have found that contributing to other people is a way to self-care.
Starting point is 00:50:18 And whether that's volunteering or paying it forward, paying for someone's coffee, just little things that not only make you feel good, they make other people feel good. I think that self-care can come from making someone's day and it could be something really, really little. I mean, you know, it could be you sending a friend to get a blow, like anything, like something where you feel like you're giving to other people. To me, that's also self-care. It's kind of stepping outside yourself and just doing something for someone else. Podcasts on the go, okay? Use the podcast everywhere.
Starting point is 00:50:59 That's self-care. Listen to something that makes you laugh, something that entertains you, whatever it is, something that educates you, inspires you. That to me is self-care. Books on tape. If you're not a podcast listener, try it. Audible. Listening to Principles by Ray Dalio right now. Don't mean to brag. I stole that from Heather Ray. But don't mean to brag, but it's a good one, guys. And yoga, okay? Yoga, I try to do it once a week. Ugh. Yoga is insane. I feel like I walk in with 5 million file folders open in my brain and walk out with them all filed and organized. To take an hour to yourself, to stretch your body and move your body and open your chest and realign yourself is so powerful. And I have found, swear on my life, building my
Starting point is 00:51:54 business happens in yoga. I'm able to step back, step outside of it, gain perspective, think about my next move. And I would recommend here though, going to a yoga studio that's not heated. And here's why, especially if you're trying to do self-care, you go into a yoga studio to clear your head and to gain perspective. And the heat is distracting. And I feel like you don't need anything to be distracting you from being with yourself. So I like to go to a yoga studio with no heat, something that has really good energy, and just be in my space. And that plays into mindfulness. Mindfulness, you know, you just are there, you're with yourself, you're in your own area, no one's bugging you, Michael's not texting you 100 million questions. It's nice. You can get outside,
Starting point is 00:52:46 okay, for self-care. Just getting outside is nice. Wear a hat, if I'm being honest here. Maybe some sunscreen. But get outside. Move. And then something that I think that everyone should do, which is so, so, so important, is get your blood drawn by a holistic doctor. That right there is such self-care because you can look at where you're low on certain things, right? That's just about seeing where your cortisol is high or what vitamins you're deficient in or minerals you need. Just getting your blood tested once is incredible. I went to Spark Health. I got mine tested. I had very high cortisol, which is why I'm so cognitive about how I start my day and my vitamin d was low I told you guys I would talk about this so I've
Starting point is 00:53:31 implemented vitamin d into my day I do hum nutrition and you have to take it with a healthy fat which is why I don't take it in the morning with my ritual so whenever I have an avocado or olive oil I just pop my D3. And then I'm just going to leave you with this. A couple quick, tiny little ways to self-care, okay? Mint leaves in your water. Simple. Even add cucumbers if you're being festive.
Starting point is 00:53:55 Cinnamon in your coffee. Bossa Nova music. A clean office space. Time-blocking cube. Take a nap. It could be a 10-minute nap, okay? Quick. Hide from the kids in the closet. on the ground get a sleeping bag you got to do what you got to do and lastly and and i need this and maybe this is for myself turn off your fucking phone turn off your computer turn
Starting point is 00:54:16 off your phone and chill and be with yourself and be present so before i leave you, I am going to give away five bottles of woo. Okay. Woo. It's going to enhance your sex. It's insane. It's coconut oil based lube. It has four ingredients, little stevia for taste, little beeswax for consistency and a little Jehovah oil just for fun. Okay.
