Starting point is 00:00:00 This episode is brought to you by Kopari. So as you guys know, I'm super OCD about my space, especially my bathroom space. It's precious real estate. I'm super excited to introduce you to something that is totally worth taking up the space, Kopari. So I've talked about this before on the podcast, but for those of you who are just listening now,
Starting point is 00:00:22 they're products that moisturize your skin and hair and they smell amazing. Super island fresh. Jordan's obsessed too. I love Kopari. I was using it at the bachelorette party. It was so good. It's very on brand. Why we love Kopari though, like so much is because there's no sulfates, silicones, GMOs, or parabens. Instead, it's made with 100% organic coconut oil. So definitely I feel like our favorite is the coconut sheer oil, which it's like a light, perfect facial moisturizer. Yeah, it's very hydrating, super hydrating. You can put it underneath your foundation to give you kind of like a dewy glow. We use that a lot. That was a big theme at the bachelorette party. We also used the organic coconut melt, which was amazing after the sun.
Starting point is 00:01:08 I wanted it all over. Again, hydrating. Super hydrating. So you can use all these as a highlighter, too. You can just put it on your cheekbones or your collarbones. My favorite's definitely my brow bone. It, like, pops. It's the perfect highlighter.
Starting point is 00:01:22 It makes you look skinny, I feel like. Yeah, if you put it on your collarbones it totally gives you that like victoria's secret model look so say aloha to the best skin and hair of your life with kopari go to koparibeauty.com skinny now and get 20 off your order i feel like you're gonna use that 100 that's kopari k-o-p-R-I, beauty.com slash skinny for 20% off. The following program is a podcastone.com presentation. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic.
Starting point is 00:01:54 And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to the Skinny Confidential. Him and her. Hey guys. Hi.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Hello. I am hung over as shit. We are struggles McGee today. It's a little funny why we're hung over. We'll get into it in the episode. I am Lauren Everett's creator of the blog and brand The Skinny Confidential and today we are sans Michael Bostic. Bye Michael. Bye Michael. You are yesterday's news. So yesterday. No fear though because we have the best Bostic here.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Hello. His sister who also works with me on the Skinny Confidential, Jordan Bostick. Yep. I am taking over today because Michael is traveling for work. I gotta be honest though. I'm kind of excited about it because Michael's so type A and as you can see from me today, wait, can we just kind of sum up the situation right now? We had a long weekend. So Lauren and I are literally in her house in our pajamas, not looking great. Might I add, we've got some green teas, some coffee, some blankets, hair in a bun, not
Starting point is 00:03:21 looking good, not looking good. Yeah. Two hours late. It's not my, it's not my brightest moment all right let's just be honest here and the sad thing is is the reason we're hungover is because of my bridal shower yeah it was supposed to be a casual saturday i think i turned down the first drink that lauren offered me and i said i wasn't drinking all day and then wasn't so casual jordan wasn't so casual and we definitely ended up drinking here's the
Starting point is 00:03:47 thing I haven't been drinking because I'm getting married and I want to be like you know tight and toned and like non-bloated at my wedding so I haven't been drinking and I've just been really watching when I eat because you know these pictures last forever so you got to tighten it up I've been working out. And so the bridal shower kind of came out of nowhere. Yeah. It was kind of like, I feel like you were like, we're free finally. Cause we've been doing the meal plan, Lauren's meal plan on the bombshell body guide website. We've been following that are pretty much our whole team has been following that pretty strictly because we all want to look good for the big weekend. But yeah, we kind of let loose, I think on Saturday and two days later we are still feeling
Starting point is 00:04:32 it. Don't let loose in 10 inch platforms. A little note from me. Yeah. You might want to wear flats. Yeah. I probably should have been wearing flats. So basically my stepmom and my dad hosted a lavender lemon bridal shower. It was a couple shower because I definitely wanted to mix in the men. I got enough of all women at the bachelorette party. So I wanted to do some men too. And so Michael came, all his friends came. Um, Nico came Jordan's boyfriend. He's been on the podcast before. My dad, your dad, Nico's parents were there. There was a lot of people there and it was definitely fun to do like men and women, I feel like, at a shower. That's not a normal thing and it was definitely way more fun because we all went out after. Kind of made it like a full party rather than just like a girly.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Yeah, I can't do that. We did the whimsical, you know, overly feminine bridal stuff. Like, okay, like, it's just not me. So we kind of wanted to make it a little bit more fun, a little bit. Just skip the huddle around while she opens presents. No presents. No presents moment. No, no, no, no presents. There were no games.
Starting point is 00:05:38 No games. No pin the tail on the groom. No pin the dick on the groom. Is it pin the dick on the groom? None of that shit. I feel like you should trademark that. Lauren's coming out with a new game called pin the dick on the groom for all of your wedding shower needs. Wait, is that actually a game though? I feel like it is. I have no idea. Okay. Well, I'm not the type of girl. In fact, I'll never be the type of girl and there's nothing
Starting point is 00:06:01 wrong with this type of girl, but to open gifts in front of everyone, like I'm just not me. Like, in fact, if I were to describe the opposite of my personality, it's to open gifts in front of people. So there was none of that. Basically you came, there was lavender tray past mimosas with little sprigs of lavender and lemon. There was peach bellinis and we had it at urban wood in san diego which is the most amazing restaurant yeah if you haven't been there it's new and it's so cute they have a little market on one side and then this beautiful open all like natural light what uh restaurant so it's really great for instagrams and pictures the bar is insane like i've never seen a cooler bar. It's light, it's bright, it's airy, it's on brand, it's like white marble, it's like gold touches. They had little grapes with pearls sticking out
Starting point is 00:06:52 of them for our cocktails. I think Michael was sipping on like a gin spritz with like a sprig of lavender. They made lavender and lemon macaroons just for you. Yeah, it was amazing. Like the party could not have been better. If you guys are in San Diego, you have to check out Urban Wood. And the light is just really great for Instagram. So if you need an Instagram, just run over to Urban Wood. Which by the way, your mom, Julie, did such a good job with that party. Like everything down to, I mean, everything down to the candles were lavender lemon.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Like everything was lavender lemon all the way we had so many amazing brands come together and make it happen and Julie was amazing Michael's mom brought lavender flowers we had craft and foster lavender candles and then we also had craft and foster citrus candles to like mix in the sense i'll do a blog post but basically it was just like a very like fun i would call it fun bridal shower and we went out we went out afterwards a couple of us not all of us yeah just a couple which was really fun which is why we're feeling we're feeling it today but i must say lauren you can agree with this we deserve to let loose a little bit because it's been pretty hectic lately with planning all this wedding stuff. It has been hectic.
Starting point is 00:08:11 And at the bachelorette party, I mean, I let loose. But I didn't really let loose at the bridal shower. I really let loose. You did. I was ordering everyone shots. I mean, I was ready to go. Yeah, for sure. Speaking of that, it's just kind of like when you're planning this wedding and you've got work and it's the holiday season,
Starting point is 00:08:31 there's a lot going on, which, by the way, November weddings, it's a lot with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up and then the new year. I love to pack it on. By the way, today is Halloween, mean we're kind of missing that my costumes hung over i was gonna wear a costume and i forgot it no one would see it but me so who cares yeah so we've been uh we've been pretty busy and um i feel like we didn't really get to talk about the bachelorette party yet did we tell the story michael and i kind of talked about it um but i feel like we need to hear it from your perspective because you were the one that was hosting it and you wanted to. Well, there were moments where I was like questioning my love for you.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Like I was like, I love you. You're my sister. I work with you. But there were there. It was touch and go for a while. But then you realize strategically I'm the best person to invest in for a bachelor party because when it's your turn. Yes. Then I realized, okay, I'm hopefully going to be getting married soon.
Starting point is 00:09:29 So every single thing I do, it's just like I'm racking up the points and racking up the amount. My book is read, right? That's what they say. Or your book is read. No, my book's not read yet. We still got to get through the wedding. It's not read. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:44 We're a couple chapters in. It's a little red. Okay. So anyway, just let me sum this up for everyone because I haven't, I haven't spoken out about this yet. And so I feel like this is my moment. Lauren came to me three months ago and said, I don't want to do a bachelorette party I just want to do a casual you know easy maybe spa day or dinner with a few girls no overnight just something super casual maybe a massage a couple glasses of wine I'm like okay great you're boring but great I'll put it together for you we'll take like a car or something and I'll go get a massage and then we'll go out to dinner. Super easy. Then she goes out to dinner with Erica of Fashion Lush and Erica luckily convinces her that she should have a weekend. Not so luckily. It wasn't lucky.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I know. Maybe I should go and get Erica and tell her, give her a piece of my mind. No, but anyway, Erica convinces Lauren that it's a good idea to do a bachelorette party. So fast forward. Just pause though. Erica convinces me that she wants me to do a bachelorette party in Palm Springs because Erica selfishly was wanting Instagrams for herself. True. And then she manipulated the situation and made sure that the theme of the party would fit her Instagram aesthetic, which is hilarious. But anyway,
Starting point is 00:11:10 we accomplished it. The theme of the party was fitting everyone's Instagram aesthetic, so we were all good. But I kid you not, it went from zero to 60. No, it went from zero to 260. Like, I can't even believe it went from this casual thing to literally a 10-page scroll of demands. Lauren told me if she didn't have frozen grapes, a man servant, if it wasn't like Beverly Hills hotel vibe that she just was going to like freak out. So Mimi and I were running around like crazy. We probably ordered like 700 boxes worth of decor. This is a good tip though for brides out there that are about to throw a bachelorette party. Here's what you do. You act like you're so so chill and your bride chilla and like no one cares and you're so fucking like easy and then at the last minute you pull a poster board from righty that's the biggest
Starting point is 00:11:54 you can find and you small and sharpie write a hundred demands for your friends yeah i don't know if you saw on snapchat but she's not kidding she had she got one of the largest poster boards you can buy at the store at like staples or whatever and i'm not kidding she wrote lists like in the smallest pen writing you can think of the list i can't even we have to show them we should blog about this list this list is insane and there was one for the wedding shower here's the thing though it's like that's how my brain thinks like i have like all these little compartments in my, in my head. And so I needed to like get it on paper. I did the same thing when I started the skinny confidential, like I need to see it on a huge poster board. And so I just wanted to make sure like all my demands were met in the best way
Starting point is 00:12:38 possible. Like the grapes couldn't be purple. They had to be green. Yes. And they were, and the manservant fed them to you and so all was good in the hood but i will say that mimi and i literally were panicking the day of because lauren was like oh yeah i'll meet you there at 11 to help set up so mimi and i okay we decide we have all these boxes so we're gonna get up at 5 a.m get there that was a little gun. No, it was necessary because we barely finished having everything ready by the time people got there. Like really? I wanted everything to be set up. Everyone to walk in. Yeah. But there were things you didn't notice probably. I noticed everything. Okay. Well, people might not have noticed. Just let me have that one. Let me have that one piece. You didn't notice i i wanted everything to be set up but
Starting point is 00:13:26 anyway mimi and i left at five then we could get there early enough to unload everything set everything up lauren said she'd be there at 11 a.m keep in mind palm springs is 100 degrees she's yeah i'm sweating like i'm disgusting i'm like i'm disgusting like I had no personality by the time everyone got there. I had like 17 venti coffees. Um, but Lauren shows up at five. That's six hours late. Yeah. It was literally six. I figured I needed to take a pure bar class in the morning. I just felt like I needed to like sweat it out before we, we went and lived it up. So then I needed to make sure every little detail was planned that I was taking. And then we decided we need to stop at In-N-Out to get protein style burgers.
Starting point is 00:14:15 So Lauren was getting In-N-Out, taking a pure bar class, you know, having a nice time with her friends while Mimi and I are panicking in a hundred degree degree of weather, unpacking boxes. And when I mean boxes, I mean boxes, like boxes full of cups and bases. The thing, like, like I'm also, it's really important for me to bring the skinny confidential readers along on, on my experiences. So to me, like, yes, this was my bachelorette party, but it was also an experience to showcase and like to have content and to show how I like to throw a party. Obviously I like lived it up and we like had our own thing and I definitely got off Snapchat for tons of hours on end while we were there. But like I wanted to make sure that I showed a very skinny, confidential
Starting point is 00:14:55 bachelorette party, which I feel like we accomplished. Yes, 100%. And I mean, right now it's the bachelorette, like Lauren's posted all these bachelorette-themed posts on the blog. So you can go and look at those and see, like, all the outfits, all the decor, everything. Another post goes live tonight. It's the last one tonight. And then it'll be bridal shower stuff. So you should go check that out. Because it was, I must say, like, it did really end up very cute.
Starting point is 00:15:21 So your scroll of demands was all worth it. It was executed exactly how I saw it in my head, which was amazing. Yeah. And the house was amazing. So if you want the house details, I think that's on the blog too, right? The house details will be on the blog tonight. If you guys want to know more about it, you can always email me. I'm always make sure to return you guys' emails and Snapchats and tweets. So please email me if you want the details. You can just email asklauren, lauren with a y, at theskinnyconfidential.com. So I feel like you guys have heard enough about the bachelorette party, the bridal shower. I mean, I'm weddinged out talking about it.
Starting point is 00:15:57 I mean, we can just get real for a minute and talk about yesterday's situation yeah so because we've been dieting when we let loose and then yesterday i was dying and lauren's laughing at me because i gave in and nico and i got breakfast burritos in the morning and then i was like oh that's all i'm gonna eat all day it's just one burrito and it's good and i'm fine and then 6 p.mm. rolls around and we were still hungry. So we went and we got euros. Euros is like the most random fucking thing I've ever heard. Actually, he got a euro and I got a falafel wrap. Yeah, that's not on brand. It was so good. I mean, that's not what I would want if I was hungover. I woke up so hungover yesterday. Michael, like we said, I think we said, is in Florida for a jet convention for his work.
Starting point is 00:16:54 And I actually was like, even though I was so hungover, I powered through it because I'm thinking about my dress. I don't know how you did it. It was hard. I'm proud of you because now I'm really regretting it and I'm thinking about how I have to work out like three times today and I'm chugging apple cider vinegar and it's making me so sick. Apple cider vinegar does give you kind of a stomach ache if you chug too much. Yeah I took a shot of it this morning and I immediately felt like I was gonna vom. Yeah, sometimes it hurts your stomach. I was
Starting point is 00:17:25 noticing that. I'm doing a lot of aloe vera water. It's 100% real aloe vera water from Trader Joe's. I highly recommend it. I'll just do like a half a cup of it with sparkling water and a little bit of lemon. You can throw in chia seeds if you want some fiber. And I make it like a fun little fake cocktail. I must say though that it has been, all this dieting for the wedding has been less stressful following your meal plan. It has made my life a lot easier because I just go to the grocery store every week and I just get what I need to get. And then I'm just done and I don't need to think about it. Do you really love it? I do love it.
Starting point is 00:18:06 You did a good job. Yeah, you have to make something from it tonight. Yeah, I will. The recipes are, like, so simple because I'm not a cook in any – but by any means, like, everything is very easy. It takes two seconds to throw together. It takes two seconds. I think tonight for dinner I'm going to make the Nanza's egg salad. Ooh, that's one of my favorite ones. I know,
Starting point is 00:18:25 it's so good, you guys. So good. But yeah, because we've been like going on this whole road to the wedding, it's been, needless to say, it's been a little stressful. So I feel like Lauren and I have been upping the yoga, upping the yoga. I was never one that was like really into yoga until I started wedding planning. Here's the thing about wedding planning. If I could go to a deserted Island by myself and just make my list of demands on a poster board, I would be fine with it. But there's so many different personalities and different dynamics and, and, and family members to coordinate involved that it just makes it very stressful. And then there's
Starting point is 00:19:05 people that can't go or that, that can go and that need all these different things. It's just like so many different things to deal with and to juggle that it sucks your energy. And when you have to go like work and do a blog post and, and, you know, return a million emails and all this, all this other crap. It becomes a lot. Yeah, I would say if you're going to be someone who's going to a wedding, just show up with all smiles and don't make any demands. Because the bride and groom are so stressed planning this wedding as it is.
Starting point is 00:19:42 The people who have demands are just, it's quite interesting. Yeah, like we have a couple people that are coming to our wedding, and, you know, there's been questions, and I can't answer anyone else's question. We've just, if anyone's listening, if you've had demands, we've completely ignored you, and we're just, Lauren's doing what she wants to do. Yeah. So get excited. And Michael thinks he's planning the whole wedding.
Starting point is 00:20:02 He's literally bridezilla. He keeps, like, complaining about how stressed he is. I feel like when I'm pregnant, he's going to be one of those people that just like talks about, you know, how tired he is and how he needs a foot massage when I'm the one that's pregnant. Yeah. Yeah. A hundred percent. But speaking of foot massages, we have been pretty good on our wellness. We've been doing pretty good. We've got the yoga going. I have six appointments at Fix this week. Which is? Tell them what Fix is. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Fix is literally the most amazing find in San Diego. If you need like acupuncture, massage, chiropractor, they do cupping, all of that. It's amazing. It's just like next level. It's the best. I can't even describe it. Like I don't even have words. Just go to Fix and Hillcrest and trust us.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Yeah, just trust us. And hopefully we can be getting some acupuncture down in Cabo too. Yeah, we're hoping we can get acupuncture at the wedding, you guys. Wouldn't that be cool? Don't tell Michael though because I feel like he might get a little overwhelmed with that idea. Yeah. He nicks the foot massages at the pool. I can't even believe that.
Starting point is 00:21:06 So rude. I'm going to be walking around with like cups on my cup marks on my body at your wedding. That's so cool. Is that okay? Yeah. I'm obsessed with that. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Speaking of wellness, let's talk about skin. Skin is obviously a huge priority for my wedding. So as you guys know, I use bio clarity oil a lot. It's really helped my skin have like a shiny dewy glow. I like to put it on again under my makeup and what it really helps with though is pimples. So I don't get pimples too much, but when I do, I definitely use bio clarity and I've said this before I especially get them when I'm in LA because of all the pollution so basically bio clarity is a totally new acne treatment designed specifically for young adult skin it's clinically proven to clear up acne blemishes and help maintain clear confident skin which is exactly
Starting point is 00:22:02 what I need for the wedding if I get a pimple before my wedding, just shoot me. How it works, three easy steps. You cleanse, you treat, you restore. So the cleanse is a facial cleanser that washes away dirt and oil, why I love it for LA. And it includes a powerful plant extract from green tea, which is super detoxifying. I've talked about that on the Skinny Confidential before. And it also has cucumber in it, which gives you a cooling sensation. There's absolutely no harsh chemicals found in this facial cleanser, which is amazing. The second step is to treat, and it's a gel that penetrates pores and attacks bacteria. And then lastly, use a Restore Gel, which has Floralux in it, and that's that green stuff that's in plants. So what are you waiting for?
Starting point is 00:22:48 Get clearer skin today. Just go to bioclarity.com. The Skinny Confidential, him and her listeners, will get their first month for only $9.95. That's a $20 savings, and it comes with a 100% risk-free back money guarantee. You just need to enter my code SKINNY. That's bioclarity.com and enter my code skinny. All right. On that note, I feel like I should give my tip of the week. Michael's not here to give his, I don't know what his would be. It probably something about email
Starting point is 00:23:18 or business or books, but mine is going to be about hangovers because I feel like that's appropriate yeah very in in the moment it's in the moment it's it's it's what's good it's what's happening now like there's no facade going on here hashtag happening now no there's like a lot of bloggers that like everything's always perfect and you know things aren't perfect over here today not today they're not no they're not not in our pajamas on the floor with blankets all over us they're not. No, they're not. Not in our pajamas on the floor with blankets all over us. They're not. So, okay, my tip is absorbic acid with three ALA pills. Okay, so I've talked about this on the Skinny Confidential before. It's called the Hangover Elixir if you want the exact breakdown.
Starting point is 00:24:02 And basically when I'm hungover, I do pure, pure, pure vitamin C. Make sure you get the non-GMO kind. It's a powder. You put a scoop in water with ice. I do like three scoops. Probably only supposed to do one, but I do. I do three. I like, I'm intense. And then I squeeze lemon into it and I take three ALA tablets on the side and I swear to God, it's the hangover cure. That sounds much better than my breakfast burrito Euro situation. Your Euro situation is out. So this hangover elixir was invented by Suzanne Summers. And if you don't know who Suzanne Summers is, you have to get on board. She's the best. She looks so good. She's like 70 years old and her skin is flawless, which is amazing. Anyways, so try it next time you're hungover. Just make sure that you're using absorbic acid
Starting point is 00:24:52 vitamin C. You want like pure, pure, pure, and it'll take your hangover away. And if that fails, you can always get a Euro. I don't know about Jordan. Is that your tip of the week, Jordan? That's my tip of the week. A little falafel, a little breakfast burrito, a little sour cream, a little no. Sour cream is not a good. Anyway. All right. Well, so now that we've done the tip of the week, should we get into the questions? At first, we're going to take a break. OK, we got to get our postmates order. All right. Oh, thank God. I god i know all right we'll be right
Starting point is 00:25:25 back what would happen if a well-known chicago news anchor quit his job to drive a car for lift what if he captured the real stories of the real passengers who ended up in the back seat and what would happen if he aired those stories in a weekly podcast i'm anthony ponce and i did that so download backseat rider at podcastone.com, the Podcast One app, or subscribe at iTunes. This is the Skinny Confidential, him and her. All right, all right, all right. You guys are witnessing not our proudest moments today. I'm trying.
Starting point is 00:25:58 I'm trying to have a personality. Yeah, we're trying. We're trying real hard. So we have three questions today, and we're going to try to answer them to the best of our abilities, but my hangover elixir has not kicked in yet. I just took it. So we'll see how this goes. All right, Jordan, what's the first question? The first question is from Paulina and she asks, what is a typical day like working for you, Lauren? Ooh. Um, well, I'll let you answer that first. Cause you do work. I feel like you work with me. I hate what someone's saying that people
Starting point is 00:26:34 work for me. The answer to what is a typical day like working with Lauren is that there is no typical day. I could sum it up for you. I'll just use today as an example. Today I got up, answered some emails, did some things from bed. A lot of emails. A lot of emails. A lot of emails. Lots of emails. A lot of emails.
Starting point is 00:26:57 More emails than you could ever imagine. Like imagine like your worst nightmare of emails. That's every day. Like when you're just cruising around town, I'm constantly looking at my emails just to see if I can answer a few while I'm like in line at the grocery store or, you know, going through the drive-thru at Starbucks. Like those are, those are the moments where I try to knock out a few emails. Um, so I woke up, sat in bed, answered some emails. Then I came over here to film the podcast. I'm in my pajamas.
Starting point is 00:27:29 After this, I'm driving down to the border basically of Mexico. Did you guys hear that? She's driving down to the border of Mexico. So just when you think you might want to work with me, you don't. Yeah. So I have to drive down. I have no idea where I'm going. I'm actually terrified that I'm going to accidentally cross the border. So I brought my passport. Like I'm not even kidding. Are you serious? I brought my passport like i'm not even kidding are you serious i brought my passport because i've heard that before that people on accident drive past the right the like turn and then they go to mexico and then they're there and you have to sit in the line for like six hours okay tell them why you're going to the border um so we're shipping a bunch of stuff down to cabo for the wedding and yeah i didn't know this until I started until this last week, but
Starting point is 00:28:05 you have to ship international through like a special courier so that when it goes through customs, it doesn't get lost or stolen or, but I don't really know. I just know we have to send it through a courier. So, so today she's answered emails, sat in her pajamas on the floor and podcasted and then she's going to the border. Yeah. And then I'm coming back up to finish answering emails and do any other tasks that you need help with. Yeah. We had a girl that worked for us like probably a year ago that didn't work out the best. And it just wasn't a fit. And I think she thought that when she was working for me, that all we
Starting point is 00:28:46 were going to do was like, take a couple photos, have a little Rose, eat an oyster or two, maybe answer two emails. She loved the day when we, um, had, what was it? What is it called? Uh, spilled my drink. Um, what's, what was it called? What's the, the, we did, um, you know what I'm talking about? We did like a video shoot. So she thought it was like a lot of like creating content all the time. And the thing with blogging is it's so much more than just creating content and caviar. Oh, caviar. We had a caviar. She loved that day. Yeah. She loved that day. Um, so I think that people have this misconception about if they ever were to work for a blogger, that it's all just like shooting Instagrams and, um, you know, maybe doing a couple of emails.
Starting point is 00:29:30 The bare naked cucumber said it best. I don't remember when he said this, but I remember when he said it, I was like, that is it working with Lauren and Michael. You have to be like the ocean. He said, you have to be able to go with the flow and just ride the current. And sometimes it gets rocky and crazy. And other times it's smooth sailing and super chill and sun's out, whatever. And I actually don't blame the girl that was working for me. She wanted more structure, like a 9 to 5. And this just isn't a 9 to 5.
Starting point is 00:29:59 It's a very unique, different job. I mean, you were working yesterday when you were hungover. Yeah. I mean, like, it's not Friday night. We were booking flights for everything for, yeah, it's kind of a 24 seven job, but then you get breaks in other areas. Like, you know, you'll get two days off or tomorrow we're going to go to LA all day and we'll probably, you know, go have lunch. Oh yeah. Tomorrow. Yeah. So then that's another thing. Like tomorrow we're going to LA all day. Thursday we're going to LA.
Starting point is 00:30:28 So it's, it's kind of all over the place. Um, you know, sometimes there's shoots. Like the other day we went to the dress theory and we, you know, took a bunch of pictures and watched Lauren try on dresses and had some champagne. They were tired of watching me try on dresses. But yeah, so it's kind of all over the place. And I guess like the main thing working with Lauren and Michael is that you have to just be down to like get the job done, whatever it may be. You can't be not flexible. Yeah. It's not structured at all. Nothing's structured about it. In fact, no. And you have
Starting point is 00:31:03 to be efficient with your emails. You have to be efficient with your emails. You got to be efficient with your emails because I micromanage and the email section. Yeah. You have to be efficient in general. It's like things are moving fast. You can't, it's not a nine to five job. So on that note, we're accepting interns. If you guys want to email them to ask Lauren at the skinny confidential.com, but I feel like I've scared you all away. Yes. You do get to drink rosé a lot. Yeah. Actually, sometimes I'm shocked at how much I drink on the job.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Not to freak you out, Lauren. But yeah, there's a lot of, I mean, even when we shoot the podcast, sometimes we're having champagne. Yeah. We're not having champagne now because we had enough this weekend. Keep it right for the wedding. All right. Next question. Yeah. We're not having champagne now because we had enough this weekend. Keep it right for the wedding. All right. Next question. Okay. The next question is from Jenna and she asks, how do you deal with anxiety? I have major anxiety. I feel like that's such a phrase that everyone says nowadays, but I really do have really bad anxiety. And, um, it's something that I constantly work at every day. Yeah. I feel like it's, you just push through, you just push through, you wake up and you just, you, you set a plan for
Starting point is 00:32:13 the day and you do, you push through, but you also have to take care of it. Like there's been times where I've had really bad anxiety about something and I'll push it aside for like two weeks at a time and then it'll blow up or it'll implode. So my advice with anxiety is something that you need to kind of nurture every day. So for instance, today I'm going to go take an hour yoga class tomorrow. I can't get in a yoga class, so I'm going to make sure that I can get up and, you know, maybe take a walk around the block with the dogs before and, and get a green juice and not drink too much coffee. Like there's all these like little things that you can do every day to sort of help with the bigger picture of anxiety. That makes sense. You are really good. You like don't have anxiety. I do, but I, you manage it. I manage it. Like for me, yoga is huge. I think for me,
Starting point is 00:33:08 like anxiety comes when you don't have mental clarity. Exactly. That is like the smartest thing you've ever said. I love that. Oh my gosh. Love you. Maybe it's just the smartest thing you've ever said. Cause we're hung over and everything smart sounds so prophetic right now. Um, no, but really, truly yoga gives me mental clarity. So I go to yoga for an hour and I clear my head and then suddenly I feel like I can focus and whatever I had anxiety about just isn't as big of a deal. And you just, you just deal with it and you just do it. You don't, I mean, most of my anxiety comes from like, Oh my gosh, I have to do this or that. And like Lauren sending me a thousand million kajillion emails. So the best thing for that is just get my freaking emails done.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Like just sit down and bust out a bunch of emails. Yeah. I think that what Jordan just said about mental clarity, mental clarity is something that takes away anxiety. So if you, in any way that you get mental clarity, whether that's, sometimes I have to stop my day and just go read a book for a half an hour. Yeah. To like distract my mind. I am really in tune with my body. I feel like I have a lot of mind body connection. You definitely have more than me though. I will say that. We're, we're both on the path. No, but you're gnarly.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Jordan's gnarly you guys. I have a lot of mind-body connection. So when I'm feeling off, I recognize it right away. I'm very sensitive. So like I said, I manage it every single day. It's something that I really, you know, like watch. I find that writing at night is the best way for me to write. It's when I have the least amount of anxiety and I can sit down and my to-do list is crossed off and I can just write and there's no other distraction because let's face it, anxiety is distracting.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Yeah, so distracting. Extremely distracting. It's hard to think. You can't visualize what you need to do and then take action. So anything you can do to have a clear mind and then be able to take action, that's what's gonna push you through the anxiety.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Which is why I love yoga lately. I think that you also need to recognize where the anxiety is stemming from. So I've had a lot of situations in my life where I have felt very out of control, which is one of the reasons that I'm a huge control freak, a.k.a. the bachelorette party. I'm like a huge, huge control freak, AKA the bachelorette party. Um, I'm like a huge, huge control freak. My house always has to be in order. Like everything has to kind of be controlled. And I think that that definitely stems from things that have happened to me that are out of my control. So once I know kind of where the anxiety is coming from, I can troubleshoot it. That's actually, that's, that's smart because
Starting point is 00:35:45 you can't ignore it completely just because you have a clear mind and you're not like stressed or super like giving into your emotions. That doesn't mean that you can ignore whatever is giving you anxiety. You have to like try to solve the issue. Yeah. You can't ignore it. And you power through, you wake up and you tell yourself, I'm fucking amazing. I'm going to have a great fucking day today. And you kill it. I mean, I wake up every single morning and give myself a pep talk. There's not a morning that I roll out of bed and I'm like, merry fucking sunshine. And I'm like, ha.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Like, I have to wake up and be like, you know what? I have a lot to do today. Like, I have to get in the mindset. You know what's my yoga? Something I heard in my yoga studio that really helped really helped me, um, like be able to think clearly and not feel as much anxiety about things that shouldn't like, cause sometimes you stress out about things that shouldn't stress you out is they told me they were like, write down and clearly defined your values and your priorities and like the things that are important to you. Like for example, if you really value loyalty or hard work or whatever it is, and then anytime you're stressed, like look at your list
Starting point is 00:36:50 of values and be like, am I stressing over something stupid? That's great advice. Yeah. I'm reading this book, the stubble art of not giving a fuck. And that's kind of the same advice. Like you have to pick like where your, your fucks are going to be given. Yeah. Like if one of your main priorities is your family and you have something going on with your family, that's stressing you out, then obviously you need to solve that because that's something that deserves your attention because it's one of your values. So, um, I think that really helps too. Yeah. So, all right. Last and final question. And then Jordan and I are out of here. You guys, the last question is from Rachel, and she asks, how do you handle having friends and family work for you?
Starting point is 00:37:32 I feel like Michael and I have kind of answered this. We have Jordan, Michael's sister, working for us, and Mimi, my sister, working for us. We've also had my brother work for us. We have lots of friends working for us and i think that the answer to that is you mix it up we also have you know a girl named valerie that works for us she's amazing but she lived across the country before this and we never you know knew anything about her before we hired her so i think you definitely mix it up and i
Starting point is 00:38:01 think you you just have to have a really honest conversation with the family member or friend that says, when you're at work, you're at work. And this is not, you know, me being a bitch or being rude. This is just the expectation I have with Jordan. I think it's, it's been very easy because Jordan wants the best for her brother and I, so her expectation is already set very high. So when I come in asking for something that's completely outlandish to maybe another employee, she knows, like she knows, she sees the vision. She's a visionary. So I think that that's been pretty easy with her. And then I also am a huge believer in giving people things they're good at. Yeah. That's a big one. Yeah. I think,
Starting point is 00:38:42 I mean, from my perspective working, you guys have been great bosses, honestly. Sometimes we're a little annoying. Don't lie. You can be annoying. Who's more annoying, me or Michael? Michael. Just kidding. No, but 100%.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Love you, Michael. Just kidding. But Michael. But Michael. Yeah. Well, Michael's just got, he's got a lot of things going on. And you and I are kind of always on the same page. And I don't? No. Well, Michael's like different things. Like you're focused on the skinny
Starting point is 00:39:08 confidential. He's got jet bed, you know, he's got like a little, um, but you and I are always on the same page. Like we, I think we are on the same wavelength as far as like what needs to get done and what's a priority. Um, so I think the main thing thing is that like for me, I've had to be like, okay, they're the boss. So I have to do what they say. And that's the most important thing. I think the problem with family members is sometimes they'll try to take advantage. And you can't take advantage. You can't take advantage.
Starting point is 00:39:39 And you also can't be emotional. You have to be logical. Yeah. This isn't feelings and how people feel. It's logic. It's work. We have a strategy. We have to be logical. Yeah. This isn't, this isn't feelings and how people feel. It's, it's logic. It's work. We have a strategy. We have a structure. We have a goal. We have a vision. Get on board or get off. We've got shit to do. Yep. We do have shit to do. Yeah, we do. Um, but yeah, so it's been, I think that's the main thing is like, you guys probably wouldn't hire someone within family or your family or friend circles that you didn't already see the characteristics of like getting, being able to get shit done and keep the relationship
Starting point is 00:40:10 professional when it needs to be professional and fun when it needs to be fun. You probably wouldn't hire people. No, you don't want it to get awkward. Yeah. Oh, I hate awkward. Like I don't, I don't want it to get awkward. We have a very like fun work environment where it's super casual. If someone needs to go take a walk, they can go take a walk. If you need to go post an Instagram, you can go post, you know what I mean? Like you can, you can say like, I need however long you want for lunch. And I think what that does is it allows the person to thrive. Yeah. Or, or they take advantage and then they don't stay. Yeah. So you either, you either sink or swim in that kind of environment. I never want to be that person to my employees. It's like, you have to work nine to five. I don't work nine to five.
Starting point is 00:40:52 I hate fucking working nine to five. It's not my style. It's not how I work. I work a little here. I work a little there throughout the day. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's nine to five doesn't work for me. So I can understand when it doesn't work for someone else. Um, I think that you give people the opportunity to have a relaxed work environment and they, like I said, they either thrive or they don't. I bring my dog to work. You bring your dog to work. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:16 You like, I don't even know what time you get to the office. What time? I usually get there at nine, but sometimes, sometimes like 10, it depends. It depends. And sometimes like, sometimes you don't go in like today. Sometimes I don't go in. Yeah. I'm not going, I don't think I'm going in at all this week, maybe on nine, but sometimes, sometimes like 10, it depends. It depends. And sometimes like, sometimes you don't go in like today. I don't go in. Yeah. I'm not going, I don't think I'm going in at all this week, maybe on Wednesday, but yeah, it's so it really just depends, but I make sure that I get my work done. And so that's, I think that's like the main thing. Yeah. I don't really care. Like what hours people are working as long as it gets done. So in a nutshell, just make sure
Starting point is 00:41:43 they get, she just makes sure that everybody gets shit done or don't have family members work for you at all. But I will say it is, it is a fun thing if it works out. Yeah. We have fun. Yeah. We always have fun. Sometimes a little too much fun.
