She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur.
A very smart cookie. And
now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major
realness. Welcome to the Skinny Confidential, him and her. Me oh my, we have a show for you today.
Me oh my, we are back and we are rolling. We are going to talk about your overall moment because you certainly had an overall moment.
I've had a lot of moments in my life. I wouldn't call overalls a moment.
You have one picture from long ago that you keep calling like you thought it was like a regular occurrence.
We're going to get into your overall moment because I feel like there's a story leading up to it.
But basically, this episode is going to be diet, fitness, and health.
You guys have asked us so many questions that we decided to just make one full episode dedicated to everything and anything wellness.
Health and wellness.
Michael's had some ups and downs of health and wellness, but we'll get into that.
My rocky road. Rocky road roads a way to put it yeah there was some rocky roads sticking out of your
overalls hey i made it this far it's it's my birthday it is your birthday um happy birthday
honey the big two five no you know what's funny, you guys? I love to celebrate Michael's birthday, but he is
the biggest Ebenezer Scrooge I've ever seen in my life. I planned this whole party for him. I was
going to do pizza and craft beer and margaritas, but no. What do you want to do? You want to sit
at home? No, no. I'm turning 30, and I guess that's kind of a big one. Everyone keeps saying,
you know, 30. I guess the biggest one before that was, what, 21, and then there's 18, and then 16.
You kind of lose track of the ages between 21 and 30 because there's really not a lot going on.
30, I guess, is a big deal because you hit that milestone, you know?
Okay, so I'm trying to celebrate.
It's downhill from here.
Yeah, it was downhill after those overalls.
But I tried to do, like, a celebration for you, and you just weren't down. No, you know? Okay. So I'm trying to downhill from here. Yeah, it was downhill after those overalls, but, um, I tried to do like a celebration for you and you just weren't down. No, you know what? I
just, I know what it's like with people that get really into birthdays and, um, tell us what it's
like. Cause I do too. So like, tell us all about it. Nobody cares that much. Just nobody cares that much just nobody cares you know i think the only people that really care that it's
my birthday is like you and i think you really care that much i mean i care but like happy birthday
and you know my mom i just got off the phone with my mom she she thought that you had this
whole thing planned and i think she's kind of sad that we don't so i did have a whole thing
planned and you canceled it so don't blame me. What you really like your ideal birthday night would be in bed with a book and headphones on with me next to you and the dogs.
And maybe if we're going crazy, you would do a cup of sleepy time tea.
Listen, I feel like I feel like I've done a lot at this point.
You know, there's not there's not a party that I haven't seen.
There's not a drink I haven't had.
There's not an overall you haven't worn.
There's not.
Yeah.
I just, I, I, it's not, I'm just, I get it.
Like it's a birthday, but like, it's just another day for me.
I'm trying to, I'm trying to make progress.
I'm trying to move forward.
Okay.
Then don't ask for a card.
No, listen, you have not gotten me a Christmas card, a Valentine's day card.
I sent you a Christmas text.
Tomorrow.
I want a card. I gave you a Valentine's day massage i yeah that's a given i want a tomorrow i want a merry christmas happy valentine's day
and happy birthday card all in one and i want a handwritten letter that's that's is that that's
not that much to ask for there's probably a lot of women out there. It's like, wait, all he wants is a card. You get other things than a card. What? You know? Yeah. Well, I think that,
I mean, shit, what are we doing here if I'm not getting that? No, but I mean, seriously,
all I want is a card. I don't really need anything. You know what I just got myself?
This is what I got myself for my birthday. What? You didn't tell me you got yourself something.
Drum roll. It took me a long time to get it. Actually, I think it's chance that this happened to me because I ordered these a long time ago.
But it's the first time that I got them.
And it's the first time they came in.
And they came in today.
And they are my AirPods.
Oh, no.
AirPods.
Is that what they're called?
You know, the Apple Pods.
So they're another version of a headphone.
Yep.
I got my wireless headphones.
They're great.
I think they're some of Apple's best products. Sham shamelessly plugging them. So I don't ever have to have
the long cords anymore. I can be just doing my own thing. Lucky me. Happy birthday to me.
I thought you were going to say you got yourself some Oshkosh overalls.
Nope. I got my AirPods. Is that what they call it? Are they earbuds or AirPods? You don't actually
know they're AirPods. I looked AirBud up earlier and that golden retriever that plays basketball came up.
So that was the wrong thing.
Okay.
So I feel like we should kind of just talk about our fitness story and get right into
it with that.
And I'll let you go first because we wouldn't want to deny the audience of your overall
moment.
Well, obviously I get mistaken for a bodybuilder every day of my
life. And it's difficult when people come up to you and they say, Hey, you look so good every day.
And I just say to them, Michael, start when you were little, when you had no muscles and you
looked like a wet noodle. We'll go from there.
Well, no.
Okay.
So I got, I've always kind of been into, I was playing, I played sports my whole life, right?
So like some sports I probably shouldn't have been playing, you know, maybe football.
Basketball.
No, I never played basketball.
Thank God.
If you want to go way back, I had a mean right kick in kindergarten for soccer.
All right, let's talk about kindergarten.
But no, so I played a lot of sports.
I was always active as a kid.
And, you know, I was always in the PE gym classes and everything.
So I was I've always been into exercise.
But when I was in high school, I started getting really into it.
And I always did the workout PEs and all that kind of stuff.
So I don't know how interesting this is.
I don't know why you really want to go down this.
I was hoping you would just get right into the college moment.
No, okay.
So I was a boxer through high school, as you know, as everyone knows.
So if you pop out of nowhere on the street, you might get a mean right hook.
Okay.
So they always kept me lean and small.
And then when I got to college, I lived with my college roommate, Terry, who was a Goliath who's been on your blog.
So if anyone's bored and wants to look up Terry on Lauren's blog, Terry Moncada, he's a real life
Thor. He is a real life Thor, you guys. He was at my wedding, making all of us look like wet
noodles. Terry, if you're listening to this, fuck you. You looked like a little limp deck next to
Terry. So anyways, we used to live together. And as soon as I got to college, I started working
out with him and he got me real beefed up. I think that's when you saw the overall moment.
Unfortunately, we wore overalls one time. Yeah, it wasn't my cool. It was pretty douchey moment.
Let's do a pause. Well, before Michael and I got together, Michael was, I would say you were chasing me.
I wasn't into you.
And one night I ran into you and Terry, aka Thor, at this dingy little bar.
And I looked over and you guys were both wearing overalls.
Nope, you have it wrong.
No, I don't have it wrong.
No, you saw a picture of us in overalls.
No, I saw you at a bar.
No, you didn't.
Okay, you can...
It's impossible for you to see me because I was in college and you weren a bar no you didn't okay you can you can it's
impossible for you to see me because i was in college and you weren't there it was yeah i was
there i saw it was for one of those stupid date dash things shout out to all the delta gammas
out there i think it was dg is it dg i remember you guys in a bar with no shirt on because you
remember wearing overalls and you tried to hit on me and i said no no you saw a picture that was posted on
facebook that's been buried thank god i'm gonna find it oh please i need a good tbt to oshkosh
overalls but anyways yes it was i was wearing overalls it was a not my proudest moment i think
don't say you know i had never had muscles my whole life and all of a sudden I had some I wanted to show him off so he was peacocking with overalls on his muscles to all the girls
with I mean I get overalls I guess if it's like if you're a farmer for Halloween but I'm not loving
it without a shirt on for no reason oh my god and I had this terrible spiked haircut oh my god
that was rough this is uh I would say the me now would beat up
the old me but that old me probably actually would have kicked the shit out of me now he was a lot
tougher he did look huge you guys you did look huge you had huge muscles your your arm was like
as big as my head so i will give you that no i got really strong in college it was so strong
that people thought you were taking steroids and you weren't yeah i've never you know it's funny i've never done
a drug in my life that's true you guys i can vouch for that um because i just don't i just
don't need them and i feel like i'm already out of control alcohol's a drug though well yeah
alcohol i'm a drug you can't quit me i have uh i have hit the devil's lettuce Once in a while
What the fuck is the devil's lettuce
Usually that happens if I'm blacked out
And it's been like 3 or 4 times
And then it makes me vomit so I don't like it that much
You've smoked pot 4 times
Yeah and I'm not into it
No I like being in control
You do take sleepy time tea is that a drug
If it is I'm probably overdosing
Yeah Michael's like an 80 year old
In a 30 year old's body. So
like I said, I've done it. I've done it all. Not the drugs. I haven't done those, but I have
partied a lot. And so, um, in overalls, in overalls, you know, shirtless, no shirt,
like no spiked hair. So anyways, where are we staying on this subject? Yeah. So I had some,
so I had some overalls, you know me shoot me for it ouch thank god you
met me okay back to fitness though so i got uh for a long time this was like this was around the time
when all these guys were taking pre-workouts and that was like the new craze you know and
um i took a bunch of no explode back then and i really overdid it i got like really really big
got up all the way up to 190 pounds, was basically bench pressing close to 400 pounds
at one point, which was pretty wild. And I know a lot of people probably won't believe me,
but it's true, which is why I can still crush Taylor, which we'll get into in a minute.
But anyway, so I did all that and got bigger and bigger and bigger. And eventually,
like it was just, it wasn't good. I could barely touch my arms together and it wasn't healthy.
And it was the diet wasn't right.
And my joints were messed up.
And so eventually I actually tore my shoulder and like almost popped my shoulder out of
place.
And so after that, I completely just like had I had to figure out how to like get into
functional shape and train and diet right.
And so that's kind of where I've been for the last eight years is just really conscious of diet and really conscious of mobility and just functional training.
So I definitely don't work out to look like a big meathead anymore.
Oh, I'm going to miss that meathead in overalls.
No, I'm actually not.
You've also started and done a little yoga too lately.
Don't, don't forget about that. Yeah. I really try to get into it.
You open your horizons. But I just, I'm not that, I don't know. I'm just,
I know a lot of people really like it. I know a lot of, it helps a lot of people, but I just think,
I just don't know if it's right for me, but I tried my workouts. So you've been doing them
every Saturday and he's loving that.
Okay.
So, so that's Michael's fitness story.
Um, if you didn't get the whole thing, just remember the word overalls.
It's not that interesting.
It's like, well, I mean, I'm just trying to like set the tone and like let everyone know
what's going on before we get into three questions.
Um, I think people want to know more about your fitness journey.
I guarantee you there's not a lot of girls listening to this or guys that like really give a shit about what I
was doing. They might give a shit about the overalls. People need to know things like that.
Okay. So my fitness journey is on the skinny confidential. Some of you guys have already
read it. I've always been into tennis and I was on the cheerleading team for five minutes until I
quit. Wasn't my thing, but I've always been like, like for
instance, like I, I danced and I, I made it like I made the tryouts or whatever. And I got on the
team and then I ended up not doing it. Um, and then tennis, I played tennis. I've always been
active, but not overly active to the point where it was like obsessive. Um, I just liked fitness.
So, um, I had my LA fitness, which you did too, membership throughout high
school. But I feel like I was walking around with my boobs pushed up more than I was working out.
I don't know what you were doing, but... Walking around with my balls pushed up.
Kind of what Taylor does now. Wow. TBT. Taylor has two workouts that he does. The first one
is he lifts his arm and stares into his cell
phone screen. And the second one is he goes on the abs machine and does like 1000 ab reps.
And then I think the third part is that he just like eats like lettuce and like boring things.
You forgot about the fourth part, which is he takes an after workout selfie to post that he
was at the gym. Yeah. And for some reason, he's always like really sweaty.
Still wondering about
that. Splashing water in his face. Um, okay. So anyways, so I worked out at LA fitness,
but like not seriously at all. I started to get into fitness through my friend, Jennifer Bell,
shout out to wrinkled, not dead. She's my godmother. She told me when I was 19 that I
had to try the spin class that she'd been going to at the training club in Del Mar.
And I just started going to spin class and I would go five days a week. I was always late.
Jen, don't kill me. In my defense, I was cocktailing until, you know, midnight. I was partying. I was just not the best. So I would do spin with her and we would do a little bit of strength
training. And I started to just fall in love with it so much so that I started taking pure bar.
And from pure bar, I was asked to teach there, which was an incredible experience and where
the skinny confidential came about. I felt like too, I was getting credibility by teaching pure
bar to be able to really start a blog on health and fitness and all the tips I picked up. And from there, I started teaching reformer or performer Pilates at Core 40. So I
was teaching Core 40 and Pure Bar and taking both of them and then also doing spin. So I just became
kind of like really in love with fitness. I've never been a fanatic about it. I've always implemented it into my
day-to-day and it's always been very balanced for me. So that's kind of where fitness started for
me. And after having the blog, it's just evolved. I've tried all these different things. I found
out what works for me and what doesn't. I found out when I'm my leanest, which is when I do
strength training. I'm doing that now. I do that with the bombshell body guide.
I do beach workouts with a lot of strength training and Pilates.
So I mix those two together and I've just found really great results along with obviously
eating healthy.
I practice the 80-20 rule, which is, you know, sometimes I got to have an in and out burger
like I did on Saturday night and some fries and a Diet Coke.
And then other times I'm just, you know,
if I'm at home, I'm not going to reach for the unhealthy food. I'm going to keep really healthy
food on hand. So basically what's happened is my journey has evolved over the years. I think
fitness is always evolving. It is a journey. It's not something that there's really an end to.
What do they say? It's not about the journey, not the destination. I feel like that's how
fitness is. So I think that everyone is different and you should do what works for you. I always say
that. And I think fitness is very, very much like that. Okay. Before we get into the him and her tip
of the week, I want to mention something that I've been talking about a lot and that is 5-4 club.
Okay. So if you guys want to look awesome and you want to have some really great clothing at some really affordable prices
and you don't want to take the time to shop online or go to the mall, I have the answer for you.
And that's 5-4 Club.
It's an LA-based fashion brand that delivers curated items for $60 a month.
Yes, only $60 a month.
It's not that bad.
So for that price, you get two to four seasonally curated
items that help build up a balanced wardrobe i actually even like it for me because i'm always
wearing men's clothes i always steal all michael's clothes all the time and i got one of these pink
shirts on there that's kind of cute and insane and a lot of you guys asked about it on snapchat
yeah girl so if you have a boyfriend or husband and you want him to look great and you want to steal his clothes, check out 5-4 Club.
You get an exclusive 50% discount right off the bat on any item off the site that doesn't come in the box.
5-4 is rad because it puts together different styles based on personal preference and keeps track of what you already have so that when they send or add anything new, it complements with the pieces that they previously sent.
Another great thing about 5-4 Club is there's free shipping with every shipment directly to your doorstep. I have 5-4
Club sent to our condo in LA so that when I get up there and I'm running around, I don't have to
pack or think about clothing. It's just there waiting for me. Lauren can steal whatever she
wants. So it's really easy to sign up. Go to 5-4 Club.com and use promo code SKINNY at sign up and
get 50% off your first month's package and five packs of socks. Okay, so again, it's 5-4-Club.com and use promo code SKINNY at signup and get 50% off your first month's package and
five packs of socks. Okay. So again, it's 5-4-Club.com, promo code SKINNY, and this offer
expires at the end of this month. So check it out. So with that, I feel like we should get
into the tip of the week because mine has to do with fitness and health. Does yours?
Mine kind of does. Oh, but it's a little different. It's kind of curved.
Okay. What else is curved? Your overall moment? You want to go? No, you can go first. Okay.
My tip of the week this week, you can apply some health and wellness to it, but
here's my tip. There's an app that I've been using for the last three months and I've kind
of been testing it out and I didn't want to talk about it until I had a few months under my belt using it. And the app is called Way of
Life. I don't know if any of you have heard of it or seen it, but it's a free app and it helps you
track good and bad habits. So at night it has you fill out the information to determine if you
implemented good or bad habits in your life. And it kind of
like tracks your progress. So for example, a good habit would be, you know, we're talking about
fitness, get some exercise, like get some daily exercise. So if you do that, you would mark in
this app that you did it. If you don't, you'd mark that you didn't do it. A bad habit would be
something like online shopping or drinking alcohol more than two nights a week or whatever you want.
You can set any good and bad habit that you want.
And this app basically tracks all of your habits for you, whether they're good or bad.
And then it gives you a weekly report and it shows your progress.
So if you're doing a bunch of bad habits, you get these big red lines that look like
you're just a piece of garbage.
And it kind of forces you to look like, oh shit, I're just a piece of garbage. And it kind of like forces you to look
like, oh shit, I'm doing a bunch of bad stuff. But if you implement your good habits and you
nail them, it shows like a big green line of positivity showing that you're implementing
good habits and it kind of breaks it down by percentages. So it's been, it's actually been
really helpful for me because I track probably 20 different things, which I won't bore you with,
but I've been- No, give us a couple examples of stuff you track. Okay. So like going to the gym or
eating vegetables or taking my vitamins. Tell them about the one you have with me,
because you do have one. I do have one. It says compliment my wife. So I make sure that I do that
every day. What was your compliment and I didn't hear it? Well, I haven't gotten to it yet,
but I'm on 44 days complimented. You have three hours and 30 minutes. Yeah. So anyways, or like a bad one would be like, I don't like to do like I had a bad online
shopping problem for a while.
Just like buy shit online all the time.
So I haven't done, I haven't shopped online for over like 80 days now and I haven't bought
anything besides my AirPods, which I don't count because those are, I need those for
work.
Oh, okay.
And, or like if you're just, you know,
a bad habit would be drinking every like whatever. So like I track to make sure that I don't drink
more than two times a week. So I don't know the apps really awesome because it kind of forces you
to look at good and bad habits. And if you implement random things that, you know, one of
them that you'll like learn is to put oil on my face at night. And I've done that every night for
like 80 nights. Yeah. I have another
habit for my other one. So anyways, it's called way of life and it's a free app and it takes three
seconds to set up and it takes like maybe three minutes out of your day to do. And I just think
it's helpful. So check it out. I like it, honey. Can you do mine for me and set it up?
Yeah. I'll put in your habits. Can't wait to hear your compliment tonight.
Okay, my tip has to do primarily with health. And that is protein pancakes. So I've talked about the
two ingredient pancakes a lot, which is banana and egg, and then I add chia seed in there. But lately I've been making one big,
large protein pancake. So basically what you do is you crack one full egg. I always like to get
cage-free. I'm really weird about that. So definitely look for cage-free if you can.
They have them at Trader Joe's. And then I do three, sometimes two, egg whites. And then I do a fourth cup of oats. You can do steel cut oats or
just regular oats. And then I do a little bit of cinnamon, two scoops of protein powder. I like
Moon Juice's plant-based protein powder right now. Sometimes I'll do Super Elixir's chocolate
protein powder if I want a chocolate pancake but usually I do the moon juice
plant-based and then I'll do a little bit of raw coconut oil to cook the pancake on and basically
you just whip that all up and then you pour it over a pan with coconut oil under it and then
flip it and you take out your big large huge pancake which is incredible because it tastes
like you are eating a huge, big, large
pancake. And you put blueberries on top. And then for the syrup, what I do is I mash chia seeds
and raspberries together with a little bit of organic 100% syrup and mash it up and pour it
over the pancake. And you guys, it is so good and such a great thing to eat before your workout because you're
getting tons of protein you're getting a little bit of oats for that carb and then you're getting
your healthy fat which is coconut oil and I am going to be making this on snapchat for the next
week and a half a lot so make sure you're following me it's at lauren l-a-u-r-y-n-e-v-a-r-t-s
and I will make these pancakes on there. And if you guys like this recipe,
then you have to check out the Skinny Confidential Meal Plan
because all my recipes in there are just like this.
They're quick.
They're easy.
They're efficient.
And I feel like they're for the girl who's always running late,
a.k.a. me.
Awesome.
You want a pancake tomorrow?
I want a pancake.
For your birthday.
I do.
Okay.
We will be right back with the questions.
Hey, this is Roxy Diaz.
And this is Nina Parker.
Now, we are two pop culture veterans who love nothing more than talking about the latest trending topics.
Now, we're talking about everything.
The relationships, music, celebrities.
And maybe the banana picks I get in my DMs.
I don't know.
We talk about everything.
All right.
Now, you get to join us every week on our new podcast, Little Black Dress with Roxy and Nina.
Check out new episodes on podcastone.com, the podcastone app, or subscribe on iTunes.
Guys, it's the Little Black Dress because every woman has one.
This is the Skinny Confidential, him and her.
All right.
We're back from the break.
Been snoozing on your lap.
Had a couple healthy snacks.
Little kettle corn from Trader Joe's.
You got a piece of popcorn in your tooth, babe.
Well.
Kid, I'll be perfect.
I do, I do, I feel it.
Okay.
All right, we're going to rush this along.
I'm going to get right into the first question.
It's been a while since we've asked the questions.
No, we did questions last week. No, I know, but I mean, usually we have somebody asking them first. So now I have to read them. It's been a while since I've read them. And this
question's for you. It says, Lauren, I used to work out all the time, but I've been in a slump
ever since I got my new job. It's a nine to five and I have a hard time getting to the gym early.
By the time work is over, I'm usually tired and go home. What do you suggest I do? Okay, so my suggestion is going to be a little harsh. You make it work.
You just make it work. And that's why I came up with the 27 minute bombshell body guide.
You can do it anywhere. What I would do if I were you is I would cut my lunch in half.
I would come prepared
with like egg salad, whatever I made the night before, a protein pancake, a protein shake,
whatever it is. I would eat that and then I would take half of your lunch break and I would go work
out. I would bring a mat. I would even leave little weights in your cubicle and I would make
it work. I think that working out in the morning super early is definitely not for
me. That wouldn't work for me. And working out after work, you're setting yourself up to fail,
in my opinion, because how many times do you get off work and you're fucking exhausted?
I know even after working at my office all day, the last thing I want to do is work out unless,
and this is my second tip, I have a workout date. So if you don't want to
work out at lunch, I would recommend doing what I do and that is doing a workout date. So what I'll
do is if I know that I'm not going to drag my ass to the gym or a beach workout is I'll set a date
with a friend. So typically I've been doing like 5, 5.30. I'll meet a friend at the beach and we will just
bring some stuff. Usually she brings a bunch of stuff and then we'll do a hour workout and it'll
be done. I find if I don't set that date with a friend after work, I end up coming home. So it's
really, really important for me to set that date. The only thing I can do in the morning is yoga.
So that is something I'll do in the morning is yoga. So that is
something I'll do in the morning. But if you have a nine to five, I totally recommend taking your
lunch break, cutting it in half and going to the gym. I mean, you really don't need an hour lunch
break, right? I feel like that's not even efficient. Take 15 minutes to be on social media,
15 minutes to eat your egg salad and take a half an hour and work out. And the bombshell body guide
is awesome because you're not dripping sweat. Like it's not like hot yoga or something.
So put some dry shampoo in your purse and you'll just use that and you're good to go.
I mean, I'll chime in here even though I know the question's not for me.
Whoa.
You know, it's just, this kind of goes back to the question last week when we were asked about
reading. It's kind of like you make time for the things that you decide is a priority in your life. And for me, you know,
while I'm not the best at all the time with health and fitness, like I do my best to make it a
priority to try to go to the gym at least four to five times a week. And you like working out in
the morning. I like getting up early and working out in the morning because I feel like it gives
me energy, but it's definitely not easy. You know, I think people put a little bit too much
pressure on themselves. Like if you can get to the gym and work out even for 20, 30 minutes a day
and just really go hard in those 20, 30 minutes, you can't tell me that you don't have time 20,
30 minutes. And maybe, you know, it takes time to get there, get to the gym. But during that time,
I don't know, listen to a podcast, listen to a book on tape, do something productive.
It's, you know, it's your life you're talking about. You only get one of them and it's one body. So you got to take care of it. If I hear the phrase, by the way,
one more time, I don't have time. I'm going to stab my eyeballs out. You have time for what
you want to make time for. You're not making time. You're not making fitness your priority,
which is fine, but then don't go complain about it. So I know I set seven days a week,
a time in my calendar to work out seven days a week. Typically I make five of those,
but the point is it's in my calendar seven days a week. I don't give myself Sunday off. I don't give myself Saturday
off. I make appointments. Now, like I said, I'll probably make five of those, but at least I make
five. You can't be super hard on yourself, but if you're not making a fitness a priority right now,
it's because you're not making fitness a priority. It's not because you don't have time.
There's 24 hours in a day. We all have the same 24 hours. That's so cliche, but it's true.
Make it work. Like make it work. No. And you know, this reminds me, we've talked about this
in the past a little bit about this kind of stuff. I think one of the biggest mistakes people make
when it comes to fitness is they set these goals. And a lot of the time they're unrealistic goals,
or it's like, I want to lose X amount of weight, or I want to get this strong or
gain this amount of weight or do this. And the problem is what happens is if you miss that goal, you get
really discouraged and you give up or you hit the goal too easily. In which case you're like, you
know, you need to find another goal that's, that's harder. And so again, you're setting yourself up
for failure. So what I like to do is set up systems that enable me to be able to go to the gym or be able to get some exercise. And that system could be something as simple as like, okay,
at this time I go and take a walk or this time I have to drive to this area so that I can go.
Or even if it's just something where it's like, okay, set time in a calendar to drive to the gym.
I guarantee if you can just drive to the gym and get yourself there, you'll work out. But even if
you end up just going there and not working out, it's the attempt that counts. Setting up a system to get you in a space
where you can get some exercise. So try to abandon fitness goals and set up systems instead. And I
think that everyone will have a lot more success. I totally, totally agree. If you want to work out, make it happen today. No excuses. Okay, guys, if you know me,
you know my favorite place to shop is in bed with a glass of red wine and pixie. I just really
don't like going to the store and being followed around for 30 minutes. I just, I don't like
questions. I know what I want. I know what I like. I know what I
don't like, which is why I'm loving LaTote. You guys know I like efficiency. So a fashion
subscription box that sends brand name clothing and accessories to my door is right up my alley.
Basically, it's customized on a special algorithm to style and fit you just right. So it's very, very
personalized. So you can get as many totes as you want per month. All you do is wear it, return it,
and repeat. And you can get $700 worth of clothing for $39 a month. Basically rent your look and get
new clothes every day, which is insane. I think clothing rentals is definitely it for 2017, especially
since we have Instagram now. A lot of us just want to wear an outfit and then return it.
Okay, so my experience with LaTote has been awesome. You get access to endless closets of
clothing and accessories when you rent your style. I get clothes I've never worn. It makes
you feel more confident and you save money. Go to laytote.com. That's L-A-L-E-T-O-T-E dot com
and get started for as low as $39 a month and enter promo code skinny to get 50% off your first
month. Fill out your style profile, sign up and get a custom tote delivered right to your door.
Wear what you want, return everything in the mail when you're done, and you'll get a new box within days.
Again, that's laytote.com.
Enter my code SKINNY and feel fabulous when fashion is delivered right to your door.
All right, what's the next question?
Question two.
Okay.
What is a good way to motivate my husband to work out?
He used to work out a lot, but has gotten super lazy lately.
Well, I wrote a little chapter in the Skinny Confidential book called Love Chub. And let me
tell you about Love Chub. Love Chub is about how you're this badass boss that works out and eats
healthy because you're single and you're ready to mingle.
And then all of a sudden you get into a relationship.
And this has happened to all of us.
And you get comfortable.
You can't get comfortable.
This applies to women too, right?
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
This applies to women and men.
So everyone's just love chubbing.
No. applies to women and men. So everyone's just love chubbing. No, I find, and this has happened to me
too, that when you get into a relationship, you just think, oh, I don't need to work out as hard
or I don't need to eat as healthy. I've learned that working out just isn't about losing weight
anymore. At my age, it's about feeling good and setting the tone of my day and taking an hour to detach
from everything that I have going on with work and family and friends and letting my
brain take a minute to just focus on the workout.
And I find when I'm done with the workout, I come back to the task that I have at hand
and I'm a much better communicator.
I'm just better.
I'm more productive.
So that's why I work out. And
I think that working out shouldn't just be about impressing your partner or excuse me, not your
partner, impressing someone that you're trying to be hot and cute for. If you're single, it should
be about, it should be about you. Yeah, it should be. But I think you also, there's a way to make it about them. How so, Michael?
So, and whenever I've gotten into a slump, and I think same with you, I think we both drive each other in the sense of like, if I'm in a slump and I'm not working out and then you're just training your ass off, it motivates me to get going.
And I think sometimes when you're in a slump and I start training, you get going.
It's usually though that, yeah, babe, don't give me a bad look.
No, it's, I'm in great shape okay i'm i'm like a
machine well the problem with michael you guys too is he's a guy and he doesn't have to work as
hard as i do no no no i have i i think it's not that i don't have to work as hard it's just that
i've consistently worked out for a longer period of time yeah maybe that's it i you've worked out
ever since you were like one so maybe that's definitely it but muscle memory plays a big
part and like you know it's definitely like it's not about okay is it fair unfair like
i'm fortunate that i have some good muscle memory so i don't have to work out as much but i
definitely fall victim a lot of the time to slipping.
Ever since I was 28, 29,
I can tell now.
If I let myself slip,
if I eat something bad,
if I drink too much,
I start to gain weight in areas I didn't know I could gain weight pretty quick.
Really?
Yeah.
I got this thing on my stomach that's going on.
I don't know what's happening there.
A little bloat.
A little bloat.
We got to get you eating a little more vegetables, though.
That's our goal for this year.
But I guess my point is what motivates me to work out when I'm not working out.
When I see you go and start training your ass off, I want to keep up.
I think the problem is sometimes the man or the woman motivates in the wrong way.
Just like if you're a leader in a business or a leader on a team,
like lead by example,
if you want your significant other to get in shape and work,
like go do it yourself and show them how hard you're working.
And that's exactly what the chapter in my book says.
It says,
wake up,
make a green smoothie,
make another one and leave it on the guy's desk.
I mean,
if he doesn't drink it,
that's his own prerogative,
but at least it's there. Add chia seeds to his oatmeal underneath it. I'm really manipulative
like that. Add spinach to his muffins like I did the other day to you. Did you even know there
was spinach in those, those green muffins? No, those muffins were great. And there was spinach
in them. So there's this book called like Deceptively Delicious and it's all about hiding
things in children's food, like hiding vegetables and fruits and stuff.
I feel like if your husband doesn't like fruits and vegetables, you should buy that children's book and just make a lot of recipes that are deceptively delicious.
Yeah, I'm not a big vegetable guy at all.
I have a rough time eating vegetables.
I sneak vegetables in your shit all the time.
Yeah.
No, and I think, you know, if again, that's like you leading by example, I think that the hardest way to get people to do things is to tell them to do things or to try to guilt them into do things. But leading by example, you know, people, you know, it's inspiring. People want to, you know, if you're getting in shape, your partner is going to want to be in shape. And, you know, it might take some time. But I think, you know, just riding, I'm saying, hey, you're like, you're not, you're not in shape. And, you know, you're disgusting. And that's, that's only going to make them feel bad. So you got to lead by example. That'll be my decision. And then, or, you know, I think that saying, hey, you're like, you're not in shape and, you know, you're disgusting.
And that's only going to make them feel bad.
So you've got to lead by example.
That would be my decision and then or my choice.
And then if they're not responding to it, if it's a man, you know, sometimes you've got to have that conversation with a man and say, listen, you know, you've got to step it up because your friends could kick the shit out of you.
And you don't want to get too far either. I mean, you don't want to get too far either i mean you
don't want to get too far get active take us take the dogs for a walk take the kids on a walk take
the kids to the park like do anything you can to get moving um i think that it's really cool to
like maybe even get an app on your phone that tracks your steps and see who can walk more steps
in a day make it a competition get a really hot guy trainer and start working out with him all the
time and scare your man into working out no i, I'm just kidding. Don't do that.
Why? That's a good idea. I love that. I think that leading by example is super important.
I'll drink a ton of water and then just show Michael how much water I drink and brag about it.
I also will eat vegetables and tell him how great I feel. The other day I tricked you into eating vitamins.
You've been eating more vitamins lately.
I'm taking vitamins.
I don't even know what they're doing.
I don't even know what they are.
I just take them because you tell me to.
Good.
So he finally is like catching on.
Then like what happens is that it's so ingrained in him is he'll start bringing things home
that I've suggested.
For instance, puerty.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Tell the story. Be honest. Don't lie. I am guilty
of kind of doing things that you've talked about for a long time. Tell a couple of stories about
that. I'm into the teas now. I've been talking about teas since 2010. He comes home the other
day with like, you literally like had 20 bags of tea. No, but this is a perfect example though,
because all these things, and I'll be the first to admit it. Yes. I never did any of these oils. I never had any of these
teas. I didn't eat these smoothies or vitamins, but I do them because Lauren does them. And she
seems like she knows what she's doing when it comes to health stuff. Manipulation at its finest.
But you see, here's the example though, is what I want people out there to understand
is that these things I was able to come to on my own conclusions.
Yes, Lauren.
So he thinks.
No, no.
You showed me the way and you showed me what, but I was able to make my own choice saying
like, I agree and think there's a good idea.
If you just were jamming this down my throat and telling me I had to do this all the time,
I'd be resentful and I'd be resistant.
So again, I think the best way to get anyone to do anything in any organization or any relationship is to lead by example.
Good. All right. If you're in a relationship and you have love chub, check it. All right. Last question. We'll make this one quick.
Lauren, what are your go-to snacks for weight loss? Okay. So if I am trying to lose a few LBs before I get in a bikini, like say it's 4th of July,
the first thing I'm going to do is cut dairy. Dairy just doesn't do anything for me. I just
find it very pointless and I find it adds weight for me. So I would immediately cut dairy. Then I
would cut alcohol. I think that's another one that adds weight. If you're not going to cut alcohol,
then just do tequila on the rocks with lemon and lime. Another thing I would do is scale back on the white carbs.
So I would do no white carbs and I would do a lot of steel cut oatmeal, sweet potato,
complex carbs that are really, really good. And as far as snacks, you guys know I like the RX bar.
I like the peanut butter one. I also like
doing fruit and hummus. I know that sounds crazy, but it's so good to dip like tangerine slices in
hummus. I also love like flaxseed and chia seed. I love nuts. Make sure you get raw unsalted nuts.
I love nut butters. I just like the raw unsaltedalted, unrefined nut butters. I do a lot
of coconut oil for healthy fats, avocados, and of course, veggies. Lots of protein too. Lots of eggs.
Cage free. You know, it's funny as I've been being healthy this whole month with you and
listening to everything you're saying, and I've been doing your meal stuff,
your meal plans. And I cut out white carbs, which I didn't, or what is it called? White carbs?
I had you cut out white carbs, red meat. That's another one.
The red meat was the hardest thing for me.
But it's so good for you to just cleanse off red meat unless it's grass fed,
but we did no red meat. And then I had him cut out dairy and alcohol.
Yeah, that was hard. No dairy, no alcohol, no red meat and no white.
I really didn't think it was that hard.
You know what?
It wasn't that hard though.
It's hard when you don't know what to do,
but when you gave me the options
and when I was looking at that meal plan thing,
when I know what to do, I'll go do it and it's easy.
It's just, I think a lot of us run into trouble
because we don't know what to do.
We don't know like, okay,
I'm cutting out all these things that I normally eat
and I don't know what to replace them with. So when you laid it out
for me and showed me, it was easy. And I actually did feel really, really good. But you know,
then the problem was this weekend when we drank for Jordan's birthday, I had the hangover from
hell. The devil himself sent me this hangover. Yeah. Because you haven't been doing anything
like you did. You did no dairy, no red meat, no alcohol. I got a hangover that I didn't even
think was possible to get.
Yeah, it's gnarly.
It's gnarly when you cut it out and then you implement it back in.
Another thing really quick before we go,
I just want to talk to you guys about sauces and dressings.
I do all my own sauces and dressings with olive oil, aged balsamic.
I use a lot of chili flake.
I use cayenne.
I use turmeric.
I use so much lemon, as you know,
and I mix those together and I play with it. I use so many herbs like basil, fresh rosemary,
ginger. There's so many things that you can play with as opposed to go buy a bottle of dressing.
Even if it says like low fat, low cal, I just make it myself. And I find that that really, really cuts the weight to when I'm
using my own homemade herb like lemon infusions.
All right.
With that, we are out.
As always, thank you guys for listening to the show.
We both really appreciate all the support.
We have a ton of fun doing this show.
