And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to The Skinny Confidential, him and her. Hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to the Skinny Confidential Him and Her Podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Today, we have a quarantined solo episode. This is fun when we're quarantined. We get to do solo episodes together. You have me, Lauren Everett's Bostick. Today, it's Lauren Everett's Bostick because you haven't pissed me off yet. I am the creator of the Skinny Confidential, and across from me is my husband, whose birthday was last week. And we got to give him a happy birthday. Happy birthday to you. Lauren, the day's still young. I could still very much piss you off to maybe even on this episode, guys.
Starting point is 00:02:17 That's true. My name is Michael Bostic. I'm an entrepreneur. Most recently, the CEO of the Dear Media Podcast Network, co-host of this show. And I have not pissed my wife off yet. But like I said, the day, the night is still, we don't even know. It's a day, night, morning. We're in quarantine. We don't even know. We don't know what day it is. The day is young. Speaking of quarantine, I decided to put together Michael and I's top five episodes on wellness and immunity for you guys. So there's five episodes that you should
Starting point is 00:02:43 definitely go back and listen to since you have the time. The first one is number 98 by Be Well by Kelly. We talk all about food, intermittent fasting, healthy tips and tricks. Then we have episode 115 with Dr. Stephen Cabral. That episode is all about wellness. Like I couldn't get enough of it. And then we have 228 with Dr. Will Cole. He's a doctor. He knows his it. And then we have 228 with Dr. Will Cole. He's a doctor. He knows his shit. And then we have 244 with Dr. Josh Axe. And last but not least, number 208 with the creator of Primal Kitchen.
Starting point is 00:03:17 His name is Mark Sison. And we go over, again, everything from fasting to healthy foods to eat to healthy snacks to cocktails to exercise. So definitely dive into those five episodes if you're looking to up your immunity. You should probably go on the Skinny Confidential and like, you know, we haven't done, I'm just kind of talking out loud here because we're in quarantine. We might as well just have a conversation, talk out loud. Maybe just go on, Mimi, whoever on your team's listening, they should create like maybe top 10 lists because we've done a shitload of these episodes
Starting point is 00:03:44 and probably go in and say, okay, this is a wellness one. It's a mindset one. I'm sure people would, you know, especially new listeners would appreciate that. We just done so many of these fucking episodes and you got to get, we got to, we got to like organize them a little bit. Mimi and I will go in and we will do a post on the top 10 immunity posts that I've done. There's a lot of them. We'll put them together on the site so you guys can access it. So definitely go to the skinnynyconfidential.com. Okay, so what you can expect out of this episode are Michael and I's current morning routines, an immunity tea that I saw on Organic Olivia. We're going to talk about getting sun, black sesame seeds, how to stay motivated, how to stay happy, sex, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:22 night routines, TV shows, reading, and just about using this time as an opportunity instead of looking at is something negative. I'm even going to dive into skincare routines. And then Michael's going to end it off with some quotes. So hopefully, yes, you are. Okay. I planned this out. So hopefully you guys will just get some jam packed value out of this episode. Wild times we're living in, everybody. Wild times. What the fuck is going on? We don't know. We don't know what the fuck is going on. So we've had to adjust and pivot to the current situation, as I'm sure many of you guys have. And the first thing- Not many of you guys. The entire world, Lauren. The entire world has had
Starting point is 00:04:59 to adjust and pivot. We're all isolated here. We're all stuck. If you're not, if you're one of those people that's not, and you're sitting there and you're just having a good old time and you're running out to parties and you're one of these spring breakers, you damn kids spring breaking, then fuck you because none of us want to be in the house. We're all stuck. It sucks. I'm following the rules. I hate rules. I always break the rules, but this time, you know, I got to do it for the greater good. I don't want to go out and get grandma killed. I need to stay in the house. I need to listen to what everyone's saying. And so, yeah, so fuck you spring breakers because, you know, of course I'd want to be on spring break running around Laurenwood too, but we can't. We're stuck.
Starting point is 00:05:27 He's going crazy. I'm going crazy. Cause I'm like, listen, if I have to do it, everybody has to do it. We all have to do it. Either we're all doing it or we're not doing it. I think we should all do it. If we're not all doing it, then fine. Let's take our chance. Let's run the statistics, see who makes it. See who doesn't like the hunger games and move on. But if we're all going to do it, let's all do it. Okay.. Okay, we got it. I would have loved to see you quarantined in college. Like I would have loved to have sat back and just watched that because that would have been a sight. If everyone was doing it, I probably would have done it.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I was very, very... What's the word I'm talking about here? I don't know what the word you're talking about. I wasn't around. I was easy to persuade back then. That sounds bleak. Okay, morning routines. Michael, what's your morning routine right now?
Starting point is 00:06:03 Okay. You want me to start first? Yeah. I feel like everyone's always more interested in you, Lauren, but I'll go first because you're like, okay, I'll lead into you. No, no, no. People have heard my morning routine. You go first.
Starting point is 00:06:13 All right, everyone. So, okay. So what I do, it's really important to me. You know, I'm still running a big team, still running Dear Media. I'm proud to say my team is kicking ass. We've not missed a single episode of all like 35, 36 shows that we produce. They're all still going up. Everybody's got at home equipment. Shout out to all the Dear Media hosts that produce their shows. Great shows. Maybe turn this show off, go listen to their shows. Amazing shows. And they're all
Starting point is 00:06:36 still up and running. They're all still going. My production team's still going. Sales team's still going. The whole team is banding around doing it. And to me, I just had a talk with them the other day and I said, listen, it's important that you stick with a normal daily routine, that you're not just slobbing around, that you're not just going crazy in your house, not knowing what day it is, what time it is, that you're still sticking to some semblance of normal. So for me, my morning routine is still the same. Get up, get an exercise in, read a little bit, go in front of my juve, get shower.
Starting point is 00:07:02 I actually still comb the hair back every day. Actually put on like a full collared shirt and jeans, even to go up to the living room. Because it's important that I still feel normal. I don't want to just roll out in a weird robe or pajamas and then show up to a Zoom meeting just looking like a slob. I just don't want to do it. I'm fully put together. And I hope that that leads some people on my team to also, you know, follow that rhythm, get in that groove. Because when you feel, you know, when you wake up and you're refreshed and you feel good, then you're productive. You're not just laying around like, hey, I wonder what's going to happen today. You're actually seizing the day. So it's still important to me that I
Starting point is 00:07:31 still have the same morning routine. And I would encourage anyone that's listening to get back to their normal routine because I'm telling you, it's going to make you feel better in the day. It's going to make you feel more productive. It's going to make you feel like not like a slob. Trust me, it's what you got to do. What skincare do you do in the morning right now, currently? Right now, I'm on Dr. Lancer because we just had him on and he sent me a bunch of stuff. I love it right now. So I'm sticking to that because you know me, you got to stick to the... I stick to a skincare routine 30 to 60 days, then I'll move on. Maybe I might go back to Dr. Dennis after this, maybe some Elemis. But right now, I'm in Dr. Lancer.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Just give us one product that you use in the morning. I'm using the Dr. Lancer. I use the scrub. Then I use the... What is it? The rinse, polish, scrub. What is it? The method. You use the method. I use the method. Yeah. Okay. But you're doing your good skincare routine. Your skin looks pretty glowy for being in quarantine. Yeah. I've gotten back. Listen, it's a combination of that skincare plus the Juve plus me working out, which I'll get to in a minute. And you know, I'm sticking to it. I'm feeling good. I'm not going to let myself go. I'm mentally just moving forward. Like everything's normal, except I can only stay in the house now. All right. So I'm going to basically just tee the question. I've asked you your morning routine.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Maybe I'll go make a cup of coffee, come back maybe 20 minutes. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to do that. How long is it going to take you to get through this? It's not going to take that long because I have a baby now. So it's different right now. All right. Because I can leave and come back in like 30 minutes. I have a baby and I can't leave the house. So right now I'm waking up at seven o'clock and you like to pound around in the bedroom. So sometimes it's earlier. I mean, I keep everything normal. Yeah, but I mean, just,
Starting point is 00:08:50 can you just be quiet in the morning? Like I would not want you to think it's not just normal course of business. Like I said, oh my God, I keep it standard. You slam around. So now instead of waking me up, he wakes the baby up,
Starting point is 00:09:02 which I'm sure she's pretty annoyed about. So the baby usually wakes up around 7, which I'm sure she's pretty annoyed about. So the baby usually wakes up around 730. I try to meditate for 10 minutes. And I swear to God, I notice a huge difference if I meditate in the morning, a big difference. My personality is exponentially better if I meditate in the morning. So I open the shades like I always do. I get my water. I have my water with lemon by my bed and I sit there for 10 minutes uninterrupted and just meditate. The baby is like a clock. Okay. She is like trained. She wakes up at 730 on the dot. Michael brings her in the room. You guys get mad about that. I, the baby's trained up. She's going to sleep at a specific time. She wakes up. I don't know. Some people said you can't
Starting point is 00:09:39 train. Listen, this little baby is like a clock. I love it. I love that. She's like opinions. I just want to just do what works for me. So you bring the baby into the room. 7.30 on the dot. 7.30 on the dot. She is ready to eat. There's crying like at 7.30. No, she'll start eating maybe 7.58.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Oh, okay. She's not too hungry, maybe 8. Keep it regimented, Lauren. No, but usually it's like 7.45. Grabs a tit, she gets going. She grabs a tit, she gets going. And then Michael bottle feeds her after that. We're doing breast and bottle. And I usually try to like read a book in bed while I'm
Starting point is 00:10:11 breastfeeding or just do something that's really low on the cortisol. I am not one of those people that wants to wake up and look at my phone. I have to read something in the morning or meditate or the day will just start off bad. It's been nice having the baby because it stops us from having to go crazy. Yeah. I was going to say get on phones, but go crazy is fine too. Usually we'll have some time with the baby in bed that's like intimate time hanging out with her, playing with her, giving her this little rattle that we have for her and just like spending just nice time with her. It's called Zaza morning. I put it in my calendar. It's in his calendar. It's a non-negotiable. Nobody's allowed to bother me or put anything in my calendar during that time. So I've been doing intermittent fasting.
Starting point is 00:10:47 So the only thing that I'm drinking right now in the morning is tea and water with lemon and black coffee. That keeps it easy. I'll either do a nitro cold brew, like a caveman or a four sigmatic ground mushroom coffee. So one of those is usually in my routine. Then I make my list of seven things that I need to get done. And I can't walk anywhere. Sometimes as you will walk outside, but I definitely social distance myself just to get some sunlight or I go on the roof because I got to get some air. You know what I mean? So that's my morning routine right now. It's nothing crazy. So you just listed about 80 things and that was like a condensed version. And then you ended it with so it's nothing crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:25 I don't think it's that crazy. It's not that great. I mean, it's not like, hey, I woke up, showered, splashed some water on my face and was out the door. It's like, here's my 82 things. And then... You're a big fan of the shower in the morning. I like a shower at night.
Starting point is 00:11:36 I'm more of a shower at night kind of girl. I like a shower when I'm dirty, which is like, so if I feel dirty in the morning shower, if I feel dirty in the night shower. You're a big shower person. I don't get... Listen, we have modern technology. We have showers. Like, I don't get these people that just linger around in their own filth.
Starting point is 00:11:52 All right, well, you're going to get, I said, still time to piss you off. So anyways, let's move on to the next portion. He thinks I smell in quarantine. Lauren, I didn't say anything, but let's, you know, let's keep it. You think I smell with my breastfeeding hormones. Well, I mean, here we go. Like, let's, here know, let's keep it. You think I smell with my breastfeeding hormones? Well, I mean, here we go. Like, let's, here come the hate letters. I mean, female hormones, breastfeeding hormones, the smells. Let me explain. I don't want to use an aluminum deodorant
Starting point is 00:12:13 under my armpits when I'm breastfeeding. Lauren, you didn't use a lot of deodorant before this. So, you know, this is not. I used a little bit of natural deodorant and right now I'm just keeping it really minimal. You can't use the baby for all of it. I noticed now with just a bit, you use the baby in the pregnancy as an excuse for everything. Why the fuck wouldn't I? I think it's a great excuse. Okay. Another thing that I'm doing that I have to shout out is Organic Olivia just put up this tea on her Instagram. I really like following her right now. And she like explained why onions are so amazing for fighting viruses and for preventing viruses and she makes this onion tea and I've been making it and I know that sounds like like kind of gross
Starting point is 00:12:50 but I'm telling you I think it works it's like this orange peel and she puts lemon and grapefruit in it and then you can add like ginger and fennel and then onion so that's what I've been doing I really do mean onion so if you're like weirded out by that, maybe go look at her Instagram because she like breaks it down there. But I've been doing that tea or bone broth to break my fast. And then I'll do fruit
Starting point is 00:13:14 and I'm adding black sesame seeds to it. And I'm really into black sesame seeds right now because they up your milk production and they have magnesium in them, which makes things move. If you know what I mean. So we're going with minimal showers and a lot of onion. Is that what we're doing here? And garlic.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Oh, wonderful. A lot of garlic. I'm eating garlic cloves. And I wonder why, like, you know, I got to, might go crazy in quarantine. I wonder why. I want to talk about going crazy a little bit. And I'm kind of joking here, but also kind of, there's a lot of people, we get a lot of messages basically from people saying, hey, I'm going fucking nuts, bananas, in isolation here, in quarantine at my house. And to me, like I try to be, you know, I've been sharing some stuff on my social, and I don't do that too often, about people like keeping your
Starting point is 00:13:54 mindset strong and fresh, like throughout this whole thing, because listen, it can get you can start to get stir crazy and start to go literally a little bit crazy just being in the house. And for me, it's important to keep perspective. One, when all of us were at work and suffering through, we would have begged for some time to take off work and be at home and relax. But now that we're forced to, a lot of people are stressed. And I get that because you're isolated from basically society. But for me, it's important to just stay mentally tough and strong and motivated. And there's a couple things that I think you need to do to do it. And the first one is you need to stick with your fitness. A lot of people are saying, well, I can't go to the gym anymore. I can't go for a run. I can't go outside. I can't
Starting point is 00:14:30 do this. They're not doing fitness. I'm doing nothing but prison workouts. Prison workouts. Yes, you heard that right. What is that, Michael Bostick? Push-ups, sit-ups. I got these bands. I'm doing flies. I'm doing biceps. Feel bad for me, guys. And it sucks. Burpees, all the leg lifts, wall sits, all the stuff that just sucks that you had to do in PE class back in the day. And it's miserable. But the way I figure is like all of us are doing nothing but like Zoom meetings and Netflix, go on Amazon, get yourself a band and do these workouts. Maybe I'll share it on
Starting point is 00:14:59 the social, but it's so easy. Like, I mean, you just start out, maybe each day you can only do 20 pushups, but by the end of this quarantine, we're all going to be, if you stick to this, you're going to be doing thousands. Quick break. Michael, what have we been doing a lot of lately? Well, there's a few things we've been doing a lot of lately, but we've been doing them in the bedroom, Lauren, in the bed. So let's just talk about the bed for a second and not the other stuff. Guys, we spend one third of our lives, or is it a half? It's probably more now. No, I mean, with this quarantine is probably 75%. There's a lot of Netflix and chill, a lot of things going on in bed. How can you spend that much time in a bad mattress,
Starting point is 00:15:33 something that's not going to keep you comfortable, something that you're not going to just feel great in all the time? I don't know if you're doing that and you're just sitting at home in bed and you're like, hey, I am doing that. I'm spending a lot of time here and I'm not happy with my mattress. We have the answer for you. And that is Helix Sleep. There's nothing worse than sleeping on a terrible mattress, especially if you want to get your beauty sleep, your immunity sleep. So Helix Sleep has this quiz and you take it.
Starting point is 00:15:55 It's two minutes and it matches your body type and sleep preference to the perfect mattress for you. So you know how detail oriented I am. I mean, if you like a mattress that's really soft or firm, or you sleep on your side or your back or your stomach, you sleep hot like Michael. With Helix, there's a specific mattress for each and everybody's unique taste. I'm about this. Guys, we all know how important a good night's sleep is. And now even more on this quarantine, we know how important a good day's sleep is too, because you're probably laying in bed all day.
Starting point is 00:16:22 And you got to have a good mattress to do that.ix sleep offers a no risk 100 night guarantee no need to go to the store keep your self-isolation in practice stay quarantined they ship it right to the door you should also know that helix was awarded the number one best overall mattress pick of 2019 and 2020 by gq and wired magazine so just go tosleep.com slash skinny and you just take their two minute sleep quiz. They'll match you to a customized mattress that'll give you the best sleep of your life. Like I said, Helix is offering up to $200 off all mattress orders and two free pillows for our listeners at helixsleep.com slash skinny. That's helixsleep.com slash skinny for up to $200 off. All right, back to the
Starting point is 00:17:07 show. And I've been working out every single day at home. Like I said, I take a walk. I try to take a walk every single day and just like really social distance myself just to get outside. And then I'll do the 28 minute TSC body guide. You can find it at TSC body on Instagram. Kim Kelly is my trainer and she did a lot of the workouts on there so I can do everything virtually or I'll do P-Volv. Steven's been on the podcast before and I'm a big, big fan of P-Volv. It's basically like a low resistance workouts, little movements and stuff that you can do, like I said, out of your home.
Starting point is 00:17:40 So find a virtual workout that you're very much about and put it in your calendar. I can't tell you how important it much about and put it in your calendar. I can't tell you how important it is to actually have it on the calendar. If you don't have it in your calendar, it doesn't really hold you accountable. I think if you have that date with yourself, it makes a big difference. And then I'll listen to a podcast while I do it. So at least I'm getting a workout in, some movement, and I'm learning at the same time. Well, a lot of people take this time and they say, okay, well, do I need to worry about my summer bod? I'm stuck here. If there's a time to worry about your fitness and your mindset,
Starting point is 00:18:10 it's now. When you're at work and you're running around normal day-to-day course of business, as we all used to do back in the day, it feels like hundreds of years ago, you're getting your steps and you're moving all the time. Now is even more of a reason to stay in shape. Because if you're staying in shape and you're working out, one, you're challenging your mind every day, which is keeping you sharp. Two, you're staying in shape. And three, it's going to release endorphins to keep you happy. So there's so many reasons to work out. Every day that you wake up, you say, hey, you know, today I'm going to stay in my pajamas and my sweatpants and sit around and eat like shit. You're just bringing yourself closer and closer to depression and unproductivity and
Starting point is 00:18:45 basically wasting your mind and your time. And for me, I'm looking at this opportunity as like, this is a huge chance to reset, to go inward, to think a lot, to get in shape, to be productive, so that when this thing gets back to normal and we beat it and we move forward, I'm going to come out guns blazing swinging because I've spent the be I've spent the time basically building myself and I don't want to I don't want to end this like in a sluggish state out of shape you know mind fucked up I want to be boom on the point ready to go and I also want to say if you guys think that Michael and I don't have days where we wake up and we feel you know not that motivated we do both of us do every day but this is the stuff that brings you out of it this is the stuff that brings you out of it what I like to say is I try to prevent it from
Starting point is 00:19:27 happening because if I don't prevent it from happening and I don't use those tools that I have in my toolbox, then it will happen. So if I notice myself slacking on workouts or walking or meditating or eating healthy, I immediately notice. So I try to do all these things to prevent the anxiety. The second thing that, you know, we were talking about fitness and keeping your mind right. The second thing is perspective. And for me to gain perspective, I'm reading a lot and I'm thinking a lot about history. And I'm, you know, going through, you know, a lot of people that have struggled through history.
Starting point is 00:19:56 There's a book I recommended the other day that many of you have heard me recommend before that many other people have recommended. It's called Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. He survived the camps during the Holocaust and lived to write about it. Another thing, one of my buddies shared recently, and some people laughed at this because it kind of gives you a perspective of how big of babies were being throughout this crisis. But it said basically, Anne Frank shared a 450 square foot attic with multiple family members for 750 days while the Nazis were trying to kill her. And so if she can do that, we can stay at home with Netflix and the internet and
Starting point is 00:20:32 FaceTime and Zoom and our loved ones and free food delivery and all these things. It's so important to keep solid perspective when you're going through something like this, because what may seem like a really, really big deal to you may not be that big of a deal when you're comparing it to people's experiences from the past. And that's why I think it's so important right now, one, to guard your mind by working out and getting in a mindset to be able to receive this information, and two, seeking out wisdom and knowledge to gain perspective like this. I would like to know, Michael, what you're reading. Right now, I'm actually reading, you know, I love Larry McMurtry, and I read his books a lot. One of my favorite books of all time is Lonesome Dove, and there's a sequel called Streets of Laredo. I'm actually reading, you know, I love Larry McMurtry and I read his books a lot of one of my favorite books of all time is Lonesome Dove. And there's a sequel called Streets of Laredo.
Starting point is 00:21:07 I'm reading that. I'm also reading a book by Reid Hoffman called Blitzscaling, who a close friend of mine just gave me. It's all about blitzscaling and scaling up a business. I'm reading that right now because I'm in the midst of blowing the shit up with Dear Media. What else am I reading? I just was I was glancing through Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. I'm reading a lot. I'm listening to anybody that's got recommendations. But what I'm interested in right now is I'm looking into historical periods of time where people have experienced isolation or people in general, individuals have had to experience isolation. I want to read what their mindset was like, because I feel like it gives me, like I said, Lauren, that perspective to realize like, okay, we're stuck at home. It sucks. But it's
Starting point is 00:21:42 not as bad as you think it is. I am reading Straight Pepper Diet, which is a book about addiction. For some reason, I love autobiographies that are about addiction. I don't know why I'm drawn to that. And then I'm also reading Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel. And it's about unlocking your erotic intelligence. So Esther Perel, I'm having such a moment with her. She was just on Lewis Howe's podcast. I'm dying to have her on the Skinny Confidential, him and her. And she's just so smart when it comes to relationships. And I just think, and not just relationships like sexual relationships, just relationships in life. She talks about how the quality of your life is dependent on your relationship. So I'm very interested in that. And then I try to get in my stoicism and a lot of skincare books that you see
Starting point is 00:22:25 on my Instagram story. So that's what I'm reading. If you guys have any book recommendations, always let me know on my latest Instagram or DM me or just let us know on the podcast Instagram because we're always looking for new books. One of my favorite things I'm doing right now is I'm sliding into DMs or messaging people, creative people that have told me for either years or months or weeks that they're going to launch a creative brand or like they're going to launch a content site or they're going to launch a podcast or they're going to whatever, they're going to write a book, you know, because we get these messages of people saying what they're going to do. I think if you're a creative right now and you're sitting around thinking like, oh, you know, maybe I'm going to
Starting point is 00:22:57 launch a blog, maybe I'm going to do a podcast. What better time than now? What the fuck else is going on? We're at home. We're in isolation. You're quarantined. Don't, can't say you don't have time now. Now is the time to get moving, get going. I mean, think about it, Lauren. Back then, if all of your jobs got shut down when you were first starting, and you could just sit at home for two months and do nothing but work on the skinny confidential. Yeah, this is such an opportunity right now. If you want to be a content creator, you want to launch a small business, you have all the time in the world. So definitely utilize it. If you find yourself scrolling through Instagram, stop. What I do is I don't even go to that page where you can scroll. I don't even go there. With Facebook, I unfollow, I mute people. I just get it out of my space so I can see. I always say that if you're going to
Starting point is 00:23:42 follow content creators, pick five and stick with those five. Don't keep going outside the box and watching every single person's Instagram story. That's so counterproductive to launching your own business or your own blog. If you were to recommend one TV show during quarantine, what would it be? There's a lot of good TV shows right now. No, but what would, well, because you don you don't you you're the worst so i've left you behind tiger king are you kidding yeah everyone knows tiger king that's an easy one to go to yeah if you haven't seen tiger if you haven't seen tiger king that is onion tea i don't want to spend too much time on tiger king because everyone's talking about it like get me my popcorn and let me pull up a chair well listen free joe exotic i mean let that guy out and karen yes carol carol killed that fucking guy She killed him. Get him out of the septic tank, Carol.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Now I know if I want to kill you, I just put sardine oil all over you and just hang you by your feet in front of a tiger. Okay, listen, if you can do that, if that's the way you can get me out and you can get me in that position, then by all means. I don't know. Westworld, Kirby Enthusiasm is back right now. Ozark just started. There's a lot of good ones.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Michael and I rewatched Curb just because we're so obsessed with Larry David. You can't go wrong with that. Also, The Sopranos is an iconic show. There's a lot of good ones. Michael and I rewatched Curb just because we're so obsessed with Larry David. You can't go wrong with that. Also, The Sopranos is an iconic show. There's so many good ones, you guys. So that's how we like to wind down at night or like Michael said earlier, we do a book. But winding down is something that I think is worth talking about
Starting point is 00:24:58 since your cortisol is probably higher than normal right now. And how we do that is with a lot of red light. We have red light in our rooms. We have huge waters by our bed always at all times. Sometimes we do a little bit of CBD, big fans of CBD over here, either the liquid or the pen. We have this gold pen. That's amazing. And we try to get in bed pretty early. We're kind of old now. We're old. We're old. Yeah. Well, speaking of winding down, there's one thing before we wind this down that I want to talk about. There's a lot of people going through hard times right now. There's a lot of people that are suffering financially, a lot of people
Starting point is 00:25:31 unsure about their future, unsure about their job, unsure about the companies they work for, all the above. It's a scary time. It's unprecedented. You know, we don't quite know what's going to happen. We've never really shut the economy down. My prediction is that it's not, we're not going to be able to as a country and listen, maybe I'll get in trouble with this. As a country, I don't think we're going to be able to've never really shut the economy down. My prediction is that it's not, we're not going to be able to as a country, and listen, maybe I'll get in trouble with this. As a country, I don't think we're going to be able to keep the economy shut down for too much longer because, listen, it's just not going to be able to sustain it. And so we'll see what our government officials decide to do. But for those of you that are sitting around and you're unsure and you're a little scared and you're starting to feel the financial pressure, I would say all the
Starting point is 00:26:02 things we mentioned about exercise perspective are important. Understand it's the short window of time. You know, it's also a good opportunity to go inward and maybe sit and reset and think, okay, is, am I doing what I actually want to be doing? Am I with a company that I can actually see myself? But there's, you know, there's a young woman that messaged me the other day and she said, Hey, Michael, I lost my job. It's a job I didn't really like.
Starting point is 00:26:22 The company made cuts. And I unfortunately was one of them. My response was like, well, I understand you're going to feel the financial pinch and that sucks, but you'll recover because you're young. But the second part of that was, you know, you're telling me here, you're not happy with that job. Maybe this is a wake up call and an opportunity for you to say, hey, okay, this is a nudge in the right direction for me to start going towards what I actually want to do. And when we can get past the fear of, okay, I'm not going to be paying my bills.
Starting point is 00:26:44 I'm not gonna pay my rent. That's a, that's a temporary setback, right? Maybe, maybe that happens. But as long as you have the perseverance and the perspective to say, okay, when this gets better, I'm going to get back on my feet. I'm going to chase what I really want to do. I'm going to go after a job I really want. I'm going to work harder. I'm going to use this time to get better, to put myself in a position so that I can succeed. Like that's what you should be doing right now, because you can't change what's going on in the world. You can change your response to it and you can change the actions you take
Starting point is 00:27:09 after you have the response to it. And I just think that this is a really good time to really look, like Michael said, look inward, but you look at Ryan Holiday. He just wrote that book, Stillness is Key. And right now we have an opportunity to be still. Things happen when you're still. So many people think we just need to have momentum and keep it going.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And I'm guilty of this. I feel like I have to keep pushing it and pushing it and pushing it. And sometimes stuff ends up happening and magic ends up happening when you stop. And when you really just stop and you sit with yourself. And I think that that's what, when you really peel the layers off, that's where people get uncomfortable is the fact that we actually have to sit there with just our thoughts and ourself and we don't have all these distractions like we normally do. So in my opinion, I'm trying to get better during this time
Starting point is 00:27:56 and how I'm doing that is like what we just discussed in this episode. A lot of books, listening to podcasts, working out, bettering myself in any which way I can. I really would encourage you to write if you're a writer. I've spent a lot of time sitting down and just writing. And like I said, just being still meditating and enjoying every minute of being able to not have all these voices and loud noises around us like we normally do. Yeah. And if you've been reading between the lines in this episode, there's a common theme of stopping, taking some time to gain perspective, to get your head right. One of the things that I pride myself on as somebody that's leading an organization in
Starting point is 00:28:31 a business is that I don't have the luxury any longer of making quick, rash, fearful decisions. And I think that's a big mistake that a lot of leaders make. Something happens and they get fearful or they get agitated or they get excited and they make a quick decision and they don't think not only how it impacts them, but how it impacts their entire organization. And for me, I have a lot of people that rely on me. I have to protect a lot of people, their wellbeing, their jobs, the talent of this network, family, wife, kids. And so by carrying that weight, I got to think to myself, okay, stop, think, collect
Starting point is 00:29:03 yourself. Don't make rash decisions. When this first happened, I got to think to myself, okay, stop, think, collect yourself, don't make rash decisions. When this first happened, I sat down with my team on Zoom and I said, listen, everybody's job is safe. Everybody's job is secure. Nobody's getting cut. Nothing's being changed. We're going to continue as if we were in the office producing these shows, relay that message to talent.
Starting point is 00:29:18 And once my team knew that, they all calmed and it was a sense of calm. And the next thing I did was, okay, how do we be very optimistic in this space? Talking to them and saying, okay, guys, it's an opportunity. It's an opportunity to get better. Maybe we can't do as much as we want to, but it's an opportunity even individually to sit down and reset and think, okay, how can I get better? How can I contribute more? How can I think in a more clear headed way? And I firmly believe that that's why Dear Media is going to be able to weather this storm and come out very, very strong is because not only myself, but my team has a very big sense of calm right now. We all know that we got to weather the storm and be safe and secure and protect our minds first individually. You know, I told all of them, I said, protect yourself individually first,
Starting point is 00:29:56 do what you got to do, take care of yourself first before you come to your job. And I think people appreciate that. I appreciate that's what I would want from a, from an employer and a boss. And so again, guys, it's taking this opportunity to get still, like Lauren said, really analyze your thoughts, go inward, decide what you really want to do, what impact you want to have, what you want to take from this experience,
Starting point is 00:30:14 what it's going to teach you. And then when it's over, come out even stronger. Don't go the opposite way and give up and get sluggish and get lazy and just lay on your ass all day and watch Netflix and eat like shit. Like, cause you're going to come out of this and you're going to, and you're gonna be kicking yourself saying, why did I not take this opportunity to better myself? I would ask that
Starting point is 00:30:30 you would get better on how you wake up in the morning. So you're not slamming cabinets, but it's part of the package line. It's part of the package. I want to leave you with a quote by Ryan holiday from stillness is the key. He said, get to know yourself, build a life that you don't need to escape from. And guys, this is the perfect opportunity to do this. I'm going to lead you to another podcast episode that I would recommend if you are at home and you want to better yourself. And that is Brian Holiday. He was on the Skinny Confidential, him and her podcast.
Starting point is 00:30:57 It's episode 83. And it's all about perseverance and living in the moment and perception. With that, I'm sure Michael Bostic has a quote too. So I guess he'll really leave you with the real quote. Want me to get some philosophical ones? Yes, please. Okay. One is like, you know, I think a lot of people, when this started happening, there's a lot of people going, the media, and I don't think the media has done this country any
Starting point is 00:31:15 favors, but I think the reason the hospital's overrun and the reason that people are ripping toilet paper off the shelf with God knows why the fuck we went for toilet paper, because, you know, the media did a bad job of, you know, keeping people calm. They stirred up a lot of fear. So one quote I would say is whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to reform or pause and reflect. That was by Mark Twain. And then more like a philosophical one. If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you're anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present. That's from Lao Tzu. And then the final one, one of my favorite ones is this. All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone. Blaise Pascal, guys, think about that one. Quietly alone in a
Starting point is 00:31:56 room. With that, we're going to be back next Tuesday again. And as always, a little giveaway for you. We are giving away some Woo Freshies. They're the wipes. You guys, the wipes. Everyone needs wipes right now. They're these delicious wipes that smell like cranberry extract. I have used them on my hands. I have used them pre and post sex. I think they help with UTIs because I always get them and there's nothing better than wiping everything off after the act is done. You know what I mean? So to win the freshies by Woo More Play, simply tell me your favorite part of the solo episode on my latest Instagram at the skinny confidential. We hope everyone's safe and sound,
