And I thought that that would be fitting. You also have Taylor. So Taylor, hopefully your mic is hot and you can say hello really quick. Of course it's not. Anyway. All right. So today we have Dr. Barbara
Starting point is 00:01:59 Sturm. She is a major. She is iconic in the skincare world. Guys, you have to definitely check her out. So she's a highly sought after aesthetic doctor with a practice based in Germany. I have been reading her and stalking her online forever. And just a little backstory, I went to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. And while I was there, we had these fabulous facials at Georgia Louise in the plaza. And I ended up meeting her and she was wearing this fabulous, like lime green, yellow sort of a coat. And she walked in and she, she's just stunning. She doesn't wear a ton of makeup. She's very natural. She's very, very good energy. And
Starting point is 00:02:38 immediately I liked her and she decided that she was going to take my blood on the spot and make a blood cream out of my blood. And if you know me, you know, I'm absolutely petrified of getting my blood drawn. So every time I get my blood drawn, they always try to use the vein on my elbow and it never works and they end up having to use my hand. So I told Barbara this and she said, listen, don't worry. I'm going to take your blood for this blood cream and it's going to be so easy and so quick. You're not even going to feel like you got pinched. And I'm thinking, yeah, right. Everyone says that. She lays me down on the facial table. She pulls her needle out. Now she's pulling it out of this huge lime yellow fabulous coat. And literally in 30 seconds, she goes, I'm done. Did not feel one thing.
Starting point is 00:03:25 It was insane. She was so quick, so efficient. I couldn't believe it. So she took my blood, she spun it, and she put it into a cream. Now, she has tons and tons of products that are on the market now, and we'll get into that, that are popular from everywhere from Nordstrom's to Revolve to Violet Gray. I mean, she's everywhere right now. So if you're looking for something with maximum results, I highly recommend you stalk her and check her out
Starting point is 00:03:50 because I've been playing with her products lately and I love them. Okay. Since Michael's not here today, I'm going to do three beauty tips that are really working for me that anyone and everyone can do at home. Okay. The first tip talked about it on the skinny confidential. I'm going to talk about it here because it's something I keep doing. A eucalyptus shower. If you have not tried this yet, you are missing out on life. Let me explain what to do. I got my eucalyptus at the farmer's market. You could get yours at a local market. And what you do is you want to get a bunch of it. I don't have time to do this beautiful presentation in my shower like some of these sites do where there's yarn hanging off the shower head. I got to go.
Starting point is 00:04:30 So I take a black hair tie and I tie eucalyptus leaves and you want them hanging upside down onto my shower head with a black hair tie and I sort of wrap it around the shower head and wrap it around the eucalyptus. You got to play with it, but it's very easy and very quick. It takes a minute. Then you have this beautiful, delicious spa-like shower when you get in the shower. So what ends up happening is the droplets of the shower go through the leaves and cascade over you and it smells so delicious. The tip here is to obviously wash off the leaves before you do this because you don't want dirty sediment getting into your shower.
Starting point is 00:05:09 So wash the leaves off first, hang it up with your black hair tie, and just be ready for this beautiful spa-like shower. I leave mine up for a week and a half. Taylor, I know you're taking notes over there wondering, wow, how do I get this in my own shower? Then to round the whole situation out, I got a salt rock nightlight. So at night I play my Tibetan bong music. Don't mean to brag on Spotify. Got to try it. A TSC reader recommended this and it's kind of life changing. And then I flick on my salt rock lamp and this gives off all these positive ions and also gives you a nice orange
Starting point is 00:05:47 glow over the shower and this is going to calm you down it's going to lower your cortisol I turn the lights off I can see perfectly I can even shave in the shower which is sort of a mission with this salt rock nightlight and again it tells your brain with orange light to wind down so blue light wakes your brain up learn this tip from Katie shout out to the wellness mama blue it tells your brain with orange light to wind down. So blue light wakes your brain up. Learn this tip from Katie. Shout out to the wellness mama. Blue light wakes your brain up and orange light is going to shut your brain down. So Taylor, maybe don't watch porn on your blue light screen at one in the morning like you normally do.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I watch it for probably 24 hours a day. So it's impossible. All right. Well, maybe you need to invest in a salt rock nightlight. So anyway, so you have your salt rock nightlight going, your Tibetan bond music, and then you're having this beautiful shower experience with your eucalyptus shower. That is beauty tip number one, kind of extravagant, but super easy if you just set it up. The next beauty tip is everyone needs a satin pillowcase. This is non-negotiable. I started to notice that my hair was breaking.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I moved from San Diego to LA and I got lazy on the pillowcase situation and was using a cotton pillowcase. And my hair girl said to me, what's going on with your hair? It's never looked like this. And I thought at first, oh, you know, it's because I bleached my hair. But then I started to realize, no, it's not from the bleach. I'm actually taking really good care of my hair since I've been platinum. It's actually from my pillowcase. Here's the thing. You're laying down for seven to eight to nine hours a day. I would be highly interested in where I'm spending those seven to eight to eight to
Starting point is 00:07:20 nine hours a day. And so I got a satin pillowcase. I was recommended silk at first and then I found out that satin actually absorbs less product. So if you're a skincare whore like me and you sleep with a bunch of oils on like a fucking witch doctor, this is good. You don't want to lay down on a pillowcase and have it all absorbed by the pillowcase, right? So what I do is I got a satin pillowcase. I sleep on it. I get my beauty sleep. Then I don't have all these, you know, what are those called, Taylor? Those stray hairs? I know you know a lot about hair. Split ends. Oh, split
Starting point is 00:07:54 ends. Yes, split ends. And I notice a difference. I can tell you 100% that I notice a big difference. This is also going to help with your skin too. A cotton pillowcase I noticed would give me pimples on the lower area of my cheek, which we don't love. And with satin or silk, I noticed my skin looking clear and glowy. And Taylor, I feel like this is another tip that you are going to steal. You're really into skin right now. Oh, are you kidding me? I'm a skin fan. I'm probably more of a skin fan than you. Let's insert a no sound. My last beauty tip doesn't have to do with skin. It doesn't have to do with the shower. It doesn't have to do with makeup. It has to do with Hooters tights. Taylor, don't pop a boner. Hooters tights. I talked about this on the Skinny Confidential three years ago, and I feel like we need to keep talking about it because it's such a good secret. So when I was little, I heard,
Starting point is 00:08:52 little, I want to say 18, that Hooters tights completely elongated your legs and made them look very, very sexy. There was something about these specific tights. So at 18, I drove my car to the nearest Hooters, which I think was an ocean side at the time, which was probably about 30 minutes from where I lived. So you can see my commitment even at that age to health and beauty and tights. And I walked into Hooters and I said to the girl at the front who was dressed in the Hooters uniform, can I buy some tights? And she was weird about it. She was like, ah, you could tell she didn't want the tight secret to get out. But I was determined. I talked to the manager and I was like, I need five pairs of these tights. It's Halloween. I
Starting point is 00:09:37 want to look real hot in my risky business Halloween costume. So I got these tights and I tried them on and lo and behold, they are the best fucking tights guys. These tights are just so flattering. They're called Tamara Hoistery. And if you want to find the exact tights, you can Google the skinny confidential Hooters tights and a whole post will come up with this total description. And I read up on it because I'm like, I'm not crazy here, am I? Because you guys know how specific I am and I need to know why. And apparently, these specific tights were the first footless pantyhose and they were designed to create the
Starting point is 00:10:17 perfect looking legs. So they're sheer and they're sheer to the waist and there's no panty lines, which we love. And everyone at Hooters wears them. If you don't believe me, next time you go to Hooters and you're there eating the hot wings, we know Taylor's been there, timer 10, check out the Hooters girls' legs. They look amazing all the time. Anyway, that was a little random weird beauty tip that I felt everyone should know. So like I said, if you're interested, Google the skinny confidential Hooters tights. You can read more about that. With that, we're going to talk to Dr. Barbara Sturm. She's an internationally renowned specialist in aesthetic medicine and specializes in non-surgical rejuvenating skincare treatments. She has a
Starting point is 00:10:59 badass line of products and she knows her shit when it comes to anti-aging. Anyway, I had such a fun time picking Dr. Barbara's brain. I hope you guys love this episode. She is a star. Before we get into the interview, let's talk about Thrive Market. So you guys know I love a date. You know, I love a date. And right now my thing is to take a date and stuff it with raw almond butter and then do a little organic cinnamon on top. I like to do a date in the morning or at night. They're organic from Thrive Market. And then I also get raw almond butter and then some cinnamon.

They've been a partner for a long time, and we love Thrive.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And we wouldn't have been talking about them this long if we didn't really love them. So check them out. This is the Skinny Confidential, him and her. Okay, so before we talk about you working in a clinic in Germany, I want to get into your childhood. Where did you begin? How did you even get interested in skincare? Oh, I definitely grew up on trees and on the soccer field. I didn't see anything about beauty or makeup until I was probably 24.
Starting point is 00:13:58 That's when I had my first eyeliner. But I always wanted to become a doctor. I really was very focused on becoming a doctor. First, I wanted to become a pediatrician, and then I had my own child was 23. Then I couldn't see any child suffer. So I went into the orthopedics. So I became an orthopedic surgeon. I did my doctor study in the orthopedics. And I came together with a group of scientists from Harvard, Pittsburgh, and orthopedic surgeons in Germany. And I helped pioneering a treatment where you take body-owned proteins,
Starting point is 00:14:30 you take the patient's blood, and you process it in a certain way, and then you re-inject the plasma with anti-inflammatory proteins and growth factors into the joints and stop the ongoing process of aging and osteoarthritis. And so I was very fascinated with science at this point. At one point, I started injecting in wrinkles and doing like all this fillers and stuff. This is 19 years ago. And I was super intrigued by doing that. But of course, I had this total scientific approach by then.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I was a scientist myself and I wanted to do something which is different than any mainstream treatment. So I translated the knowledge from the orthopedics into the skin and I invented something which you know today is blood facial or people like to call it vampire facial. So this is something I came up with like 18 years ago. What study led you to realize that you could use blood for anti-aging and skincare? So it worked for chondrocytes, for cartilage cells and fibroblasts, like skin cells and cartilage is the same tissue family. So I was working with professors from Pittsburgh and Harvard and we decided to, you know, to try it on the skin just because it's, it should work the same. And it did, we did, you know, case studies and did a lot of patients where I just injected one side
Starting point is 00:15:51 and compared the one side with the other side where I only injected pure hyaluronic acid. And it worked. And so this is, it's just like learning by doing, but having the science as a, as a base, you know. I've tried it and it does work. It's actually out of all the treatments I've ever done, it's the most effective for me. I don't know if that's because I have hyperpigmentation or whatnot, but the lasers don't work like the PRP does. So that's incredible. So PRP is still a little different than what we are doing. PRP is what's out there now, whatever doctor is doing PRP.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Basically, you take the blood and you re-inject it right away. And it has some growth factors. But what we do, we actually stimulate the blood cells to produce anti-inflammatory proteins. And that's the key. You know, it's all about anti-inflammation. And when you talk about, you know, working for any skin condition like melasma, irritation, redness, breakouts, it all goes together with inflammation. So the top of the cascade is always inflammation. So if we take inflammation out of our skin, that's the key to healthy, glowy, beautiful skin.
Starting point is 00:16:58 So what are the first steps that, you know, somebody listening or myself, because I want want to be less inflamed can take to reduce inflammation so our world offers us a lot of inflammation unfortunately we live in a very stressful world you know the the our lives become faster faster faster and increases our stress level which cause inflammation of course lack of sleep bad smoking alcohol, you name it, it's all causing inflammation. But of course, inflammation comes from pollution and from other phone, digital light, digital stress to our body. So inflammation is increasing in our body. So we should, we should, if possible, adjust our lifestyle. You just broke a lot of people's heart by saying their phone is causing inflammation. I know, I know. It's, it's, I know, but you know, it's,
Starting point is 00:17:49 the more I know, the more I study about it, the more I think about how to protect our skin. When I see my four-year-old being on the iPad, it freaks me out because I know what it does to the skin and to the body. And, you know, I try to keep her away or try to put anti-pollution drops on it, which I invented just because of the pollution and digital light. Anti-pollution drops? You don't have them? No. What?
Starting point is 00:18:16 Wait, what do those do? It's such an important step of your skincare routine. Okay, because, you know, this whole inflammation thing is what got me started and um and a step back why did I even come up with skincare when I'm not a beauty junkie I came up because at the time and this is now probably like 15 years ago I had like problems with my skin my skin was always dry it was always like a little had little blackheads and I couldn't find anything on the market which helped me. There was no solution for me.
Starting point is 00:18:46 And I said, okay, you know what? I do my own cream. And that's how I came up with the blood cream. So I mixed the cream with my pharmacist in a lab. And then we added our proteins from the blood. And that's what healed my skin. Well, I had one cream and I was happy. My patients obviously needed a whole big routine.
Starting point is 00:19:10 So since I didn't find anything on the market, I just created my own products. And the philosophy around those products basically comes from my background in the orthopedics. So meaning anti-inflammation, hydration, which is the most important thing for the skin, hydration and nutrition. And a super cutting edge element I added is a telomerase activator. And it's super cutting edge science, meaning it keeps cells from dying. It's a telomerase. Telomeres are the ends of the chromosomes, which each cell division gets shorter, shorter, shorter until the cell dies. But we can keep those telomeres from shortening. And it's basically a super anti-aging ingredient. We have this here ingredient called purslane, which does
Starting point is 00:19:51 that. So anti-inflammation, hydration, nutrition, and telomeres activation. Every product is built around this, even the supplements. Because when I said, you know, my skin cells are safe now, what about the rest of my body? I need to have this science for every cell of my body. So that's how I built this whole skincare. And the anti-pollution drops is just one step of taking out inflammation. I just told you diet, stress, you need to have a certain hours of sleep, a certain anti-inflammatory diet. You know, you have all these things, but what do you want to do about pollution? You know, we live, especially in LA, you just said you moved in the city and your skin became worse. Yeah, LA is very polluted.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Not just that, we feel like, both of us feel like we have to drink a lot more water here, which is strange. Yes, it's very dry, it's very polluted, And, you know, the fires make it worse. And then the pollution comes from China. 65% of the pollution in LA comes from China. It comes over the Pacific. And then it rains down on our vegetables. And, you know, you think, oh, we live so organic. But the truth is, you know, if you do like real studies on it, it's a very polluted place and yeah we can um you know we have to make sure that you keep your skin hydrated because hydration is important for skin barrier
Starting point is 00:21:12 functions if your skin barrier doesn't function right pollutants can come and also sunlight can come and penetrate your skin easily and can cause premature aging cancer hyperpigmentation issues so we need to hydrate our skin all the time to strengthen our skin barrier function but also we need to and that's the anti-pollution drops we need to create a shield for a particular matter to be held out of the skin but also our anti-pollution drops contain polyphenols, which help with the digital light. Do you put it on? This is maybe a stupid question. Where do you put the drop? So the drop, it's basically a thinner version of the hyaluronic acid or hyaluronic serum.
Starting point is 00:21:54 It's a thinner version, but has all these like hero ingredients. So what I do, I mix the hyaluronic acid in the morning with the anti-pollution drops and put it on as a first step. So you put it on your skin? Yes, you put it on your skin. And I even put it on my kid's skin. Oh my God. Michael's going to be in my cabinet trying to steal Barbara's products from me. I already see his eyes. I need some anti-pollution. I need a lot of help. I need a lot of help. So can you give your four-year-old these drops when she's reading the iPad? I think we all have to do it. And it's a great
Starting point is 00:22:25 kids or teenager product in my eyes, because our kids are in front of the screens all the time. And they're also in the polluted world, you know, and yeah, we think, you know, let's not overpower the skin, whatever, but it's like herbal, very natural ingredients. Otherwise, I wouldn't put my skincare on my kids. You know, if you think, you know, skincare needs to be aggressive, harsh and full of, you know, very active ingredients, then I wouldn't put it on my child's skin. But that's another big idea, which is wrong in the skincare industry. I think people always think I need to quickly fix something and go for very aggressive treatments or skincare routines like you know pouring acid on your skin basically causes inflammation and destroys your skin barrier function and makes
Starting point is 00:23:13 your skin super vulnerable and the hello sun hello pollution just come in you know what happened to me i think at 21 years old they gave me a glycolic peel and I went they didn't say you know protect yourself completely from the sun so I got the glycolic peel I went outside in the sun and you know two days later I have a sun mustache yes can you imagine can you imagine so it comes right through that's why everybody in um you know and especially also in LA they're obsessed with sunscreen sunscreen you know sunscreen is not a great thing to use actually because it's chemical or you know you can have mineral sunscreens but you know you want to use the chemical one probably and a broad spectrum and you know if you if you use it every day it's not so great for your skin but of course you have to protect your skin
Starting point is 00:24:03 especially when you spend a lot of time in the sun and especially if you strip down your skin to to nothing you know if you destroy your skin barrier function yeah then it's extra important to to use sunscreen i try to use sunscreen when i'm actually really in the sun or when you sit in the car and you drive down pch and your face is in the sun yeah you need sunscreen and i always would recommend to use sunscreen but you know if you use all these acids you can basically not leave the house or you know you can't expose yourself to nothing you know and pollution is actually also in the house it's also bad it's like from from air condition from there's so much stuff actually pollution in the house it's it's worse than outside people got to check their air conditioning filters i don't think we've ever talked about that but it's but it's important to check a lot of people just think that you never have to change those
Starting point is 00:24:49 things we just got a humidifier are you proud of that or no what a humidifier ah yeah that's that's that's that's perfect i need that actually see michael yeah it's a dyson humidifier and i heard it's really good for your skin no it's it's, yeah, hydration of your skin is the key. Also, if your skin is hydrated, you know, it's like resistant to a lot of, you know, what comes from outside, but it also is like a healthy environment of your skin and protects from breaking out and protects from a lot of, you know, irritations. Before we get into more juicy details about skin, let me tell you about cured nutrition. All right, guys. So I have been a CBD fan for as long as I
Starting point is 00:25:34 can remember. I talk about it on every single one of my platforms and this product really excites me. I've been using it a lot. Here's what I do. I get a hot cup of water, like a mug, and then I put fresh mint leaves in it. I add some lemon, sometimes a little cayenne, and then I get out my Cured Nutrition Classic Mint Oil. This is this THC-free, mint-flavored CBD oil, okay? The ingredients are minimal. It's hemp extract, grapeseed oil, and organic peppermint extract, which is also great because it makes your breath smell good. So if you're going to like go to bed
Starting point is 00:26:09 and you want to maybe get some, you just put a little in your tea. Instead of going to bed with like wine breath or something where you got to breathe dragon breath on your partner, you know, a little peppermint in your mouth. Yeah. So you're going to be able to relax with a very delicious smelling breath. And then you mix that with the actual mint leaves and you're like good to go. I myself am a fan of the cured Zen. I have been sleeping like a baby and I've been tracking my sleep. I've been getting a bunch of REM sleep, which is the best type of sleep.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Everybody knows that. I mean, if you don't know that, get with it, guys. And the cured Zen helps me get there. It's basically just these nighttime calming supplements that you use with cbd you should also know that the oil that i use is vegan gluten-free and has no preservatives which we love it helps maintain a balance of general health and wellness so to try cured nutrition and to try my absolute favorite the classic mint oil all you have to do is go to cured nutrition dot com slash skinny and enter promo code skinny for 15 off again that's cured nutrition dot com slash skinny and enter promo code skinny for 15% off. Again, that's cured nutrition dot com slash skinny and promo code skinny for 15% off your entire order. Make sure you get two guys
Starting point is 00:27:13 because I'm telling you you're going to try it and you're going to want another one immediately. As always, we'll link this offer in the show notes. That's cured nutrition dot com slash skinny. You know what's interesting for me? I didn't know anything, not one thing really, about, I just knew I had it. I didn't know anything about skincare until I was about 30 years old because we just never learned about it growing up, especially as a man. And now having these types of conversations, learning a lot more. There's a lot of young people that listen to this. What are some preventative measures?
Starting point is 00:27:39 Because I think you touched on it briefly where it's not always about these drastic changes and fixes right away, but it's kind of preventative measures that you're doing daily weekly it doesn't have to be the craziest routine but something they can do yeah it needs to be simple and but effective and especially when you're young you don't know so much about it but they're very hungry to learn a lot and i think the key is stay away from you know what you think the grown-ups do and all this crazy aggressive treatments totally stay away if you have and lots of kids and young people have acne meanwhile even like older people suffer acne a lot because of what we just talked about but but if you have acne don't try to you know destroy to destroy your skin because of it be nice to your skin you know if your
Starting point is 00:28:26 skin acts out with acne don't put it in time out just love it love it even more and love it means like give it enough hydration don't overpower it don't use too too much oily stuff but don't dry it out don't be aggressive and and dry it out because when you dry it out all your physiology is disturbed and and you know when when it's dry actually there are little ruptures in your skin and bacterias can come in and can make it even worse so if you want to treat your acne treat your um common those treat the areas don't treat your whole skin you know use you know what's actually really working is white toothpaste overnight or even like some neosporin you can put on during the day we for example just came out with a spot treatment which is tea tree oil which is even a little tinted you can just put it on the spots
Starting point is 00:29:16 and then hydrate your skin make sure you clean your skin don't touch your skin with your dirty hands and they're almost dirty all the time that's also you know because you transport bacterias into your skin go and have your skin clean out um once a month and that's it and i recommend for young young people you know we have like our our face cream is amazing our cleanser and maybe our facial scrub and that's enough. So don't go too crazy. Don't go too crazy. And I know people love it because there's so much temptation out there, you know, and
Starting point is 00:29:52 here's something in there. The packaging is so cute. And this mask has so much glitter. Just don't do it. What about ice on the face? Ice? Yes. Are you a fan of cryotherapyotherapy putting your face in a big ice
Starting point is 00:30:05 bucket using ice cubes in the morning uh i think you know what you shouldn't do is like hot cold hot cold hot cold because it's a lot of vasodilatation and construction constriction it can break your vessels so i you know if you i don't think you need to attack your skin in an extreme way. So I always prefer to be gentle to your skin. And yeah, I don't know. Don't go crazy. I don't have like a strong opinion about that. And what about Botox and filler?
Starting point is 00:30:37 Well, like, what are your thoughts there? Do you think there's an age to start? Do you think you should use it sparingly? Are you a fan? I just tell you my own experience because I started when I was 30 years old because I'm in the business of it. So yeah, you want to try everything. And I teach my patients to wait unless, you know, you have like really like a strong, you know, problem with your front lens or whatever. And there are like areas where you have like a hollow eye or like a, you know, non-straight nose.
Starting point is 00:31:05 You can do all this stuff. But don't start too early because you weaken your muscles. And from my experience, I started with 30. Now, if I don't use Botox, my eyebrows are so low because they're so weak. I would just wait. Don't get crazy on this stuff too early. Less is more, it sounds like with you. Less is more from the less the very best.
Starting point is 00:31:26 That's always, you know, don't save money on cheap material or doctors who offer you like the greatest deal. Because then you end up maybe not having the best result. Or just wait. Just wait. When you're so young, just wait and at least, you know, just hit 30 and then you think again. Yeah. The whole mindset in Europe, though, is less is more. It seems like the skincare and everything.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Americans, we always want more, more, more, more, more. But it will change. It will change. It'll change. I promise. And I think we are the first skincare brand to actually do this. Love your skin. Make your skin strong.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Your cells strong your skin cells you know try to prolong their life and and make those skin cells functioning you know and and and keep your skin as an organ super healthy and not don't destroy your largest organ in in the body because you know if you put like all these ingredients on your skin it also penetrates into your system you don't want this stuff in your system and i think we are the first skincare partner who understands the importance of this healthiness and we see how our skincare works and people getting crazy over it and say oh my god i see results and it transformed my skin and i get all this amazing feedback so i know we're doing it right otherwise
Starting point is 00:32:45 I wouldn't I wouldn't say it now I but but I think um the skincare industry has to adjust to this approach and I think you know especially in LA we go to the gym in the morning we eat healthy we do this vegan and we just we do everything to protect our bodies and be healthy as as one can be and i think the same approach needs to be applied to your skin and it would come well i think what this is a good way to transition because i think when you explain it like that people like me that makes sense right you're doing all the other thing you're in the gym you're eating healthy like you said but then you destroy your skin yeah but because we just we just don't know right we weren't educated i'm here yeah exactly hello i mean honestly i did not was never told growing up, I was told a lot of
Starting point is 00:33:28 things. You got to work out, you got to eat healthy, you got to sleep, but I was never, ever told, hey, think about your skin, ever. Yeah. What are some foods that you consume on a daily basis that really help with glowy, pretty skin? I follow the anti-inflammatory diet and there's a Harvard study which tells you what's anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory for example is like oranges cherries salmon mackerel green leaf vegetable olive oil tomatoes some nuts like almond we know all that yeah and anti-inflammatory food is all fried food processed meat sugar sodas we should stay away. And yeah, I think this plus maybe a little help of certain type of supplements like anti-inflammatory supplements, hydrating supplements, which I designed for that matter. You have supplements that you can take for anti-inflammation.
Starting point is 00:34:16 And what are those called? I want to go check them out. One is skin food. The skin food is anti-inflammatory, telomerase activating and hydrating it's amazing okay i mean this i need to try that skin food and the repair food is extra anti-inflammatory and it also helps a lot um with sports people who have like you know muscle pain if you work out and you takes inflammation out it really helps with with those kind of things and then we have the anti-pollution food which has like five different adaptogens which adapts our body to stressful situation but it also has ginseng and vitamin e which adapts our body to stressful situation. But it also has ginger and vitamin E, which helps with the immune system and circulation of the body. And then we have the sleep food.
Starting point is 00:34:53 And that's one big aspect. You know how many people have insomnia and can't sleep. It's so bad for us because we need to restore our bodies. So we did a herbal combination of ingredients, which helped to get a valid, more valuable sleep and fall asleep more easily. Well, the big thing I'm reading this book by Matthew Walker, have you heard of him? He's wrote a book called Why We Sleep. And it's another eye opening book, like teaching me how to sleep because it's not even always about the length of sleep, but the quality of sleep. And I
Starting point is 00:35:22 think that's where people have difficulty where maybe say, I'm gonna'm going to have a couple of drinks before bed to help me fall asleep. And you're having bad sleep. And so now it's trying to figure out, okay, how do I actually get quality sleep? Very good. I like this book. I want to read it. If you're going to have a cocktail, what are you going to have? I like, you know, especially in LA, you get all these like lychee martinis and stuff. I like them. I don't say it's healthy and helps your skin, but it's just so yummy. Sometimes you got to live a little. I'm all about the anti-inflammation. I don't say it's healthy and helps your skin, but it's just so yummy. Sometimes you got to live a little. I'm all about the anti-inflammation.
Starting point is 00:35:48 I had double jaw surgery, I told you before we got on, and I feel like I'm constantly inflamed, always. Repair food. Okay. And anti-inflammatory diet. Try to only have positive stress. Try to go to bed sometimes early, you know? Positive stress, Michael. Yeah, if you love what you do, that's already positive stress, try to go to bed sometimes early, you know, positive stress, Michael. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:05 If you love what you do, that's already positive stress. I'm flying around the world like a maniac and still I love it because it's, it's what I love. Let's talk about your business side. Cause you're such an entrepreneur. I met you at the Victoria's secret fashion show. You were working with Georgia Louise. You guys work together or friends? We're friends, but you know, she, she's using, using my. And you know, yeah, we're friends. You're such a hustler while also, you know, being so smart. How do you sort of balance all this? You're a mom of two. I mean, it's a lot. I think challenges make you survive. I don't know. I like the challenges. And I grew up like this. I you know, I was I was,
Starting point is 00:36:41 I was trying every sport. I was part of every, you know, workshop and in school, I was I was I was trying every sport I was part of every you know workshop and in school I did everything I wanted to know everything and I was I like all the facets of life so and being a medical doctor is is is cool and interesting being a scientist cool and interesting getting into business quite interesting and you know especially when you never learned it now you're doing this business you know and you know at the you never learned it now you're doing this business you know and you know at the moment i have to be the ceo i have to be the creator i have to be everything yeah i also have to be a mom i'm not always the best mom i have to say sometimes that gives me a big big guilt trip but because you're working so much yeah you know i
Starting point is 00:37:20 always you know my older daughter is 23 today. Happy birthday, my love. She grew up with me watching me work, you know, and it's already my little one who's four. She already knows mommy's working, but then I'm back. She's asking me who stays here with me and when are you back? So they get used to it. And with Charlie, my older one, I'm her biggest idol, which is also cool because you teach them something. But I think it's more about yourself that you miss out on a lot of time with your kids. Do you think that you could be happy, though, if you weren't doing what you're doing?
Starting point is 00:37:56 No. No, I love it. I love it. I'm so grateful for this opportunity in my life to get the opportunity to change something in a in a big industry and and i want to i want to it's a mission and and i want everybody to have healthy skin and be happy in their skin and wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and say okay cool you know i'm ready to go because it's a purpose right and that's that's the difference between a lot of people that are just working and maybe maybe they're not happy with their work-life balance because they're working, working, working. But if you love what you're doing, you have a purpose.
Starting point is 00:38:28 I don't think you could be knowing that. I don't think you could be happy not doing it. 100%. What is your morning routine? Do you have one? I wake up every morning somewhere else. That's true. I feel like you're always LA, Germany, New York.
Starting point is 00:38:42 What time zone are you on right now? I didn't know anything. You just didn didn't know i don't have jet lag is there a morning routine that you have a ritual meditation skincare routine i wish i wish i had meditation i wish i had a workout every morning i don't i i i really don't i got woken up by my daughter every morning because i still have her sleep in my bed which is so nice so she's like mommy I want to go play I said give me two minutes no yeah no so we're getting up um and I order coffee and then we play a little bit and you know I mean the time zone here is like I'm getting bombarded with emails from Germany phone calls and and stuff. And then, you know, sometimes do my mask first thing in the morning
Starting point is 00:39:27 before I even take a shower and have my coffee. And then I take a shower mostly without doing sports before. I'm going to skinny confidential and I have not even breakfast before and just sitting in front of a microphone. I haven't eaten breakfast either. I'm intermittent fasting. I'm trying to keep my inflammation down. That's okay. That's how we get the best answers, right? We catch people off guard before they have a chance to prepare. I want to kind of go back. I have a question about the clinic that
Starting point is 00:39:57 you used to work at. So I read about the clinic that you used to work at in Farrah Fawcett's book. Oh my God. I know. I read all her books, like everything. I love her. Ryan O'Neill's. I love her so much. Anyways, I read about your clinic. It's so cutting edge, that clinic. I mean, can you just tell us like the theories are so different over there than they are in the United States? This clinic, what she's talking about, I was just part of that team. My friend, Dr. Jakob, she's running this clinic and she's like super cutting edge. And, you know, the advantages in Germany is that you can bring science right to the patient as a doctor. In America, you have to wait, you have to get approved. Yeah, it's hard. So what we do a lot, we take science made in America and put it in the patients in Germany. So we seem to be the, you know, leading because we are just, you know, and Dr. Jakob is so smart and she finds cutting edge stuff and she's helping so many patients and people. I send her a lot of people and she's the one I trust and yeah you need in our days you need to have doctors who actually really care and you know look over the what's you know school medicine a little further ahead because you know
Starting point is 00:41:13 you're you can't rely just on your doctor you have to you have to do your own research you have to become a doctor yourself and google google is giving us every information we want so if there's a problem just use google as your advisor and you know figure it out and and i think you know if you have someone like dr jacob it's more easy but i think especially in the states just you know get informed this may be a little off topic but do you have any opinion on stem cell research um i think stem cell stem cell research is the future where we are now ed i don't think there there's a lot of talk and not much effect so i think it's used a lot in marketing yeah and you know i just believe in hardcore science you know i need proofs i need and we are not there
Starting point is 00:42:02 where we will be in in in, in some years ahead. So I don't think. But you believe it's the future. It's very important for the future, but we're not there. You know the story about Mel Gibson's dad? You know him? No.
Starting point is 00:42:15 So Mel Gibson's dad's 92 years old. Yeah. And he was in a wheelchair and like definitely, you know, aging, not doing well. And he went down and had some stem cell research done or some stem cells injected in South America. And he's now close to a hundred walking around. Amazing. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:42:28 There are cases where actually there are cases, one of 50 of one of a hundred where you have these amazing stories, but it's not, it's not, they can't catch it yet. They don't know exactly, you know, it's not working for everyone and you know just injecting stem cells and where do they come from and just injecting them it's like they they just go away you need to pamper them you need to you know tell them where they have to go what they have to repair it's like a whole process and um for example dr jakob in germany in Germany, what she does with the stem cells, I think is really smart. She's promoting your bone marrow to produce a lot of stem cells with medication. So those stem cells get released into the bloodstream and then they take your blood and process it in a certain way.
Starting point is 00:43:18 And then they actually have your plasma with a really high amount of stem cells, which can be injected in your skin, in your knees, in your wherever. So that's a really smart way because you make your own stem cells. We had someone on that got stem cells injected in his penis. How was that? He said he loved it. He said it was doing pretty good. He said it was doing huge.
Starting point is 00:43:39 He said it was big and huge and hard. This is too much information. If you were to tell our audience to start with one of your products, which one would you tell them to start with? Or is it not a blanket situation? So I think if you have to pick for one product, go with the face cream. It's so good. It's so good. And it hydrates.
Starting point is 00:44:00 It is, guys. I love it. So it's such a nice texture. And it gets the job done. And it's super hydrating, and it makes your skin look beautiful. And if you just want to go for one, go for this one. The second one I would recommend, get the foam cleanser because it's the same. It's super hydrating, gets the job done, makes your skin beautiful. The third one would be the hyaluronic serum.
Starting point is 00:44:22 And you wash your face, you put the hyaluronic serum on then you wait a minute and then you put your moisturizer on you're done this could be it these three products could be your routine you know and if you then want to go crazy get the glow drops get the mask i'm obsessed with the mask this mask tell me about this mask have you tried it no i haven't you've had these products you haven't shared any i i have the products and they're hidden in my top drawer she has the good stuff i have a drawer that i hide my favorite things okay the mask i'm obsessed with this mask you put this mask on leave it on 15 20 minutes and then you rub it off you really peel it off don't use water
Starting point is 00:44:55 use your hands oh get it off like little worms then you have the most baby butt soft most hydrated most polished beautiful skin And then you put your serum on top, your cream. I swear you don't want to wear makeup. Okay. I'm getting the mask and I'm getting the supplements because I feel like that's going to help with this inflammation right here. It's right here. It's always, it never goes away. And I'm going to sneak into the drawer. The only thing that really helps it is when I stop drinking alcohol or when I do facial manipulation,
Starting point is 00:45:25 that sort of the lymphatic drains it. Let me check on your jaw. It's crazy what they did. Cause you know, they, they break the whole jaw. Then they do an incision. They cut it.
Starting point is 00:45:38 When was that? This was four years ago and I'm still swollen. And then they take the upper, cause it was 12 millimeters off and they take it and they realign and there's metal everywhere. So now she's getting the metal out soon, but it's crazy. Oh no. What is a book, a resource, a podcast that you can recommend to our audience that you think has made a difference in your life? It could be something inspiring, entertaining, a resource. I'm writing it right now. No, I'm joking. No, I'm writing a book, but you know, of course. In all your spare time, you're writing a book.
Starting point is 00:46:08 Yeah, I do it on the plane. I do it on a plane. I mean, inspiring to me was the movie about Queen. Oh, we just watched that. I love it. Wasn't that good? Yeah. Yeah, we liked that too.
Starting point is 00:46:22 You know, we were just in London and we're sitting right next to him like in this in this restaurant and everyone kept coming up to him but i only knew him from mr robot at the time why is everyone coming up to mr robot i was like damn everyone loves mr robot in london but then i realized it was from from that are you looking at her now that's inflammation right god you poor thing yeah you need a repair food i i sent you the repair and i have even a stronger supplement now um it's not out yet but i give it to you it's extra anti-inflammatory i cannot wait i love your products i'm such a big fan our audience is gonna love them they're also i have to say this too they're very chic you know how sometimes you get products and you don't want to put it a display it yeah your products are matte white they're beautiful i mean even simple they look
Starting point is 00:47:03 good in the bathroom they're they chic. They just blend right in. Yes. And Michael, get your dirty paws off. Where can everyone find you? Where can they stalk you? Where can they find your products? In lots of places. Meanwhile, of course, online on molecularcosmetics.com.
Starting point is 00:47:17 But from Net-A-Potty, Nordstrom, here in LA, Violet Gray, Space NK, Cosbar, Bergdorf's Barneys, Neiman Marcus. Is there any way that they, anywhere they can't find you? Oh my God. Violet Gray, right? Yeah. Violet Gray is good. But yeah, it's, it's, it's everywhere. It makes me so happy.
Starting point is 00:47:41 I'm so grateful for getting this opportunity to share these products with everyone it's it's i'm i'm i'm really i'm really really super happy and um you know getting all this feedback about what i'm doing makes me you know do more when did the products launch uh when they did launch yeah i have no idea what Was it like two years ago, a year ago? No, I think we started doing, you know, like PR and like real sales stuff and, you know, going hard for it, like maybe two, three years ago. And I have my products on Net-A-Porter since over five years now. That's, you know, I only wanted to be on Net-A-Porter. I didn't see it as a business you know i wanted to be on that opportunity that my patients can get it everywhere in the world
Starting point is 00:48:30 it wasn't designed to oh yeah let's make it huge i didn't think about that truthfully you know it was and then from that opportunity i was i was so happy and then all these retailers called me up and said oh can we carry your products and that that's when I said, OK, let's do it, you know. And it's on Mr. Porter, too, because I've seen it on there. Barbara, thank you for coming on. Thank you for taking the time. You guys follow her on Instagram, too. What's your Instagram handle one more time?

I think that's the key to really stay healthy. Take inflammation out. There's a lot of research being done. And, you know, check out the Harvard story about diet. And I think there's so much to learn. Guys, that's the future. Go on it. And I keep you posted.
