The following podcast is a Dear Media production.
This episode was brought to you by The Skinny Confidential.
I love saying that.
We have a launch that is happening tomorrow, Tuesday, January 25th.
I am so excited for this one.
It is so unique.
I hope you're dying to know what it is.
And that is shaving cream for women on their face. This is the first ever women's shaving cream
for the face. I have never seen one on the market. I am so excited to be one of the first to market
with this. This is something that I was looking for for years when I started shaving my face in
high school. You know, we launched the Skinny Confidential Razor. And with that, we wanted to launch a kit. It is called the Shave-Et. So cute. It comes with your Skinny
Confidential Razor. You can flip the blades off. So when you're done with it, after you've used it
a couple times and sanitized it, you can flip it off, put on a new one, and then you have your
shaving cream to go with it. Here's the deal though. You know I couldn't
create any shaving cream. It had to be so perfect for you guys and so on brand. So we created a
shaving cream that is good for your face. Here's the crazy thing about shaving cream. We learned
that there are so many nasty ingredients in typical shaving creams. So you don't want to
use like a men's shaving cream on your face, right? You want to use something that's nourishing
and soothing. And you also want to use something that is made for women's faces, which is why
we created the Skinny Confidential Hot Shave Shaving Cream. It launches tomorrow. I highly
recommend going on the site, shopskinnyconfidential.com and signing up for the notifications. You get like these cute text messages from us. They're so fun.
So what is in your moisturizing Skinny Confidential shaving cream? Well, we have
shea butter, which is so moisturizing. It's absolutely insane. I've been using it with
the razor. It softens and smooths my skin, everything I want. And then there's cocoa
butter in it. This is to replenish the moisture in I want. And then there's cocoa butter in it.
This is to replenish the moisture in your skin.
And then we added olive oil,
which hydrates dry and flaky skin.
And then some aloe leaf juice.
And this is gonna help alleviate dry, itchy skin.
This one, in my opinion,
is the most important ingredient out of everything
because it really helps with redness.
Aloe vera is so soothing and it just hydrates the fuck out of everything because it really helps with redness. Aloe vera is so soothing and
it just hydrates the fuck out of your skin. So we made sure it's for all skin types. So simply apply
a thin layer of the hot shave cream onto wet skin before shaving and then use our hot shave razor.
So I'm going to give you and only you on the podcast a discount code that is pink
shave for 15% off. Use code PINKSHAVE for 15% off
at shopskinnyconfidential.com. I hope you guys love this launch. I could not be more excited
to normalize women shaving their face. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire.
Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride.
Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to The Skinny Confidential, him and her.
Hello, hello. It is a solo episode today, one that I have wanted to record for a while, probably like six months actually,
how I lost my pregnancy weight. Now, if you're listening to this podcast right now for a quick
fix, this ain't it. This podcast episode is not a quick fix. It was a bitch. Okay. The whole process. And I'm just being really honest here.
It was a bitch because I gained 55 pounds during my pregnancy. It was a bitch because it took two
years for me to lose the weight. And I actively tried to do something that was working towards tightening up every
single day, if I'm being honest. And it was a bitch because there was a lot of different layers
to this. So this podcast, think of this as a toolbox. This is not one size fits all.
This might not work for you. I am just sharing my journey. As I always say, take what you like,
leave what you don't. You might listen to this podcast and get a great tip and be like,
wow, this is life-changing. And you might listen and not like any of it. I'm just being
very transparent in this episode because this is a question that I do get asked. And I think
if I had heard this podcast during my postpartum
journey, it would have helped me. Just to start off, as I told you, I gave birth to Zaza and I was
inflamed. I was bloated. I did not feel like myself. I did not feel good. And I know a lot of
women feel like that obviously after birth, but this happened for like a year. I did not feel good. And I know a lot of women feel like that, obviously, after birth,
but this happened for like a year. I was not feeling good. And I really had to sort of sit
down and go through all of the content that I've learned from the podcast and the blog and you guys
and books and research. And I had to sit down and I had to simplify it because it was like
so much content coming at me. And I just had to be gentle on myself. And looking back,
I was a little bit too hard on myself. There was a lot of maybe negative talk that I could have
changed. And that was one thing we're going to talk about in this episode. I changed my mindset
and that really, really helped. But like I said, this is just a plethora, a toolbox, a medley of things that I did.
And I'm going to get started right away with the first thing I did. I, two months after giving
birth, was complaining in Pilates about how my weight hadn't moved. And a woman overheard me and she is like this iconic, amazing,
knows everyone, just like woman about town. And she said, Lauren, you have to try my hormone doctor.
And I've done an episode on this before. So if you want to search the skinny confidential hormones,
you can go back and get real granular. But that was the first sort of step. And that was a couple months after I gave
birth, like I said. So the hormone doctor. So she recommends me to her and I go in and get my
hormones tested. And this was a doctor that didn't just test my hormones. She tested not only the
whole bed, she tested what was under the bed. So my thyroid, all kinds of blood.
It was a lot, to be honest.
She took my blood from my hand and we got a bunch of vials and she went and sent it
off and got all there was to get.
Everything.
So she could see everything.
My vitamins, my minerals, my thyroid, my hormones, everything.
And from that, I found out that no
matter what I did, I could have starved. I could have taken Adderall. I could have taken diet pills.
I could have worked out every single day. There was something that was working against me.
And that was my thyroid. I had, I think it's called hypothyroid. It was slow. And so I had to fix that before I did
anything. And the reason this conversation to me is so important, and it's so important for me to
have these conversations with especially women is because some women out there are doing everything
that they quote unquote should be doing to drop baby weight and it's not working. And that's
because it's not as simple as calories
in, calories out. There's other factors in the way. So if you are struggling right now
with not being able to be where you want to be when it comes to your body, I would say the first
thing to do is get your hormones and thyroid tested and go to a good doctor, okay? Don't just go online and
like Google someone off Groupon. I went to Dr. Shirley in Beverly Hills. I had an amazing
experience. And from there, I was put on a thyroid medication. I know there's lots of different ways
to deal with thyroid. So I feel like this is a whole different episode. You got to do you, whatever works. For me, I got on the right thyroid medication and I felt so much better. Like the first thing
I noticed was I was wanting to nap during the day, which is very unlike me for about a year.
And when I got on thyroid medication, I didn't have that need at all. I've not taken a nap since
I got on that medication like a year and a half ago at all. I've not taken a nap since I got on that
medication like a year and a half ago, unless it's like a weekend and I'm having like a creepy,
let's put the shades down and eat pizza in bed kind of day. So that was something I really,
really noticed. And I also noticed my intuition, the way I responded to the thyroid meds, I could
tell my body, it was like, it it supplemented something I needed. So that
really worked for me. Another thing that I noticed was my progesterone, I believe I want to say was
low. And so we worked together to do a plan for that. And so what she does is she just looks at
everything and she can help you sort of balance that out. So that was the foundation of everything that was going on. Then the next thing I did was I started walking.
And how I implemented walking was essentially like habit stacking. So I started adding walking
wherever I was already doing something. And let me explain what that means. If I had a day that was all
conference calls, I started adding a half an hour walk during that call. If I had a day where I had
a Pilates class that was a half an hour away, I would walk. If I was listening to a podcast,
I would walk. Then I was like, okay, how can I do this too at my own house? So what I started doing was I would return
emails on the treadmill. I just started walking. And the reason I started with walking is a couple
different reasons. Walking to me felt easy on my body. I was postpartum, so I wanted to be kind to
myself. And that was number one. And two, I just felt running was too much. I was breastfeeding for a little bit. It was
shaking. It was just too much. It was too overwhelming. So the walking, I was able to be
more kind to myself. And also to me, walking is passive multitasking. So you can be doing
something else while you're walking, like a conference call. So that was really easy to implement.
And I also noticed something from all of this. Walking outdoors was way more in the end
beneficial than walking indoors because to be able to get outside and breathe the fresh air
and see the plants and the flowers and walk my dog and look at sunlight and look at sundown was
really beneficial to my circadian
rhythm and I think made a big difference. So I would say if you can add a half an hour to an
hour a day of walking, wherever that is, I mean, take your baby in a stroller,
walk to the coffee shop, whatever it is, just implement it in like a seamless way. It helps a lot.
And I didn't want to get obsessive about counting my steps,
but it was nice to look at the app Pacer
because I was able to say,
okay, today I moved a lot.
What did I do?
And that was really helpful.
You know, it's also crazy to look
when I was having a fucking lazy day,
like to go in and be like,
oh my God, I only walked 700 steps today.
Like I just, I like being held accountable.
And that's kind of what this whole podcast is about.
Personally, I like being held accountable.
I like to be the best version of myself.
And it's not about hitting a certain weight that everyone should hit.
It's about for me, I feel the best at a certain weight.
I feel the best in a certain jean size.
And that's not saying like I look at the size or the weight to feel the best.
It's more like I just feel energy and radiant and less fatigue.
So this is what works, like I said, for me.
Okay, moving right along.
Another thing that I did was I started being accountable about my food.
And how I did this is I obviously have a jam-packed schedule. I, at the time, had a one-year-old.
I worked with the Flexible Diet Coach. I found him through Hilary Duff on Instagram. He's been
on this podcast. If you have not listened to that episode, I highly recommend you go back and listen.
And basically, why I liked him is because
I want to eat what I want to eat. So I'm not one of those people that can go on a diet that's like
no bread. I also don't want to be told like no wine, no margaritas. It feels limiting and it
feels like I'm just going to end up binging on sourdough later. You know what I mean?
How fitting that we're talking about bloat in this episode and weight loss because array array has helped me so much with bloat i cannot even tell you i run puffy whether it's
my face or my stomach whatever i puff up for my face you obviously know i use the ice roller every
single morning and a little ice queen oil to tighten things. But for the body, I'm constantly reaching for a ray. I had a burger wrapped in
lettuce the other day with a side of sweet potato fries. And I knew if I didn't take my two capsules
that I would bloat up. I like these capsules because they're 100% natural, filler-free,
and organic. But the most important thing is they're a medley of herbs so they're herbs that i would use
naturally for bloat which are peppermint ginger root but my favorite is slippery elm they mix
them together to create this incredible capsule that really helps fight discomfort gas or bloating
i really notice a difference if i take two after i eat something heavy that's when i would recommend
it you can do you and see what works but you should know that they work in under an hour so if I take two after I eat something heavy. That's when I would recommend it.
You can do you and see what works,
but you should know that they work in under an hour so you actually can feel and see the results.
I get so many DMs from you guys raving about Array.
I know all these influencers who are obsessed too.
Melissa Wood Health is the one that recommended me
to try these and I've never looked back.
You are gonna go to Array.com, that looked back. You are going to go to array.com
that's A-R-R-A-E.com and use code skinny at checkout. You get 10% off of one-time purchases
or 25% off your first month on subscription. I'm on a subscription so it just comes straight to my
door. It's no hassle. And you should also know the bottles are super, super chic and cute. You
would want them out in your kitchen. You don't want them hidden, which is a real bonus. Again,
that's Array.com and use code SKINNY. So I wanted to find someone who could work within
what I like. And so that's what he does. So I told him i'm like I love
Pasta, I love bread. I love wine. I love tequila all the things I love
And then he took that and he helped me make a plan
Where I was just being conscious of portions
So I was eating as I was losing weight pasta every single day, which was awesome.
I actually think he is booked full, but if you want to reach out to him on Instagram,
you could check him out at The Flexible Diet Coach. And he certainly was a tool in my toolbox
to help lose the weight. And I say a tool because it was not just all about food for me. Okay.
So he had me on a plan where I think he was counting macros. He sort of did it all,
laid it out for me and told me what to eat. And then if I went out to dinner,
like we just made it work and I do go out to dinner a lot. So it wasn't any deprivation.
I had a lot of fiber in that diet, a lot of protein, a lot of greens, but I was also able to eat my fucking sourdough and have my tequila, lime, jalapeno situation. So I loved
that. Okay. So that's what I did for my food. But I also do want to say I wasn't super, super,
super rigid. Like there was days where I didn't follow it. There was days where I was traveling. There was
days where I ate too many chips and salsa. I am pretty flexible and lenient with myself when it
comes to a craving. I try to intuitively eat. And so I didn't want to overwhelm my cortisol with
this stiff, rigid plan.
I just liked the idea that I had a foundation and a plan if I wanted to go back to it to
reference it, if that makes sense.
So I would say like I probably followed his plan five to seven days out of the week.
Eric, I hope you're not listening.
I'm just being really honest here.
Okay, so the next thing that I focused on, this is a big one, okay, is my thoughts.
And this made a huge difference. And I'm embarrassed at what a difference this made because
it sounds too easy. And I feel like a lot of people are going to tune out with what I'm saying
right now, but I honestly think it made one of the biggest differences overall. I can be really hard on myself. I'm just like you.
I can beat myself up. And I was waking up every day for like a year in stress. And I don't know
if it was the postpartum depression and anxiety that I had for a while, but I was just waking up stressed about my body
or the way it looked. And I didn't even realize that I was feeling like that until I stepped away
and monitored my thoughts and became self-aware of them. And I think a lot of people aren't realizing
how they aren't monitoring their thoughts.
And I'll give you an example.
When you wake up in the morning, human nature, and Joe Dispenza says this,
is to wake up and find what's wrong.
So we are, by nature, naturally waking up finding what's happening that's wrong.
Where's the saber-toothed tiger?
So I started waking up and finding what was right. And this was a mindful practice. This was not
something that I just naturally did. Now it is because I've done it for so many days. But
when I started, I really had to wake up and say, what am I grateful for? And go through that. So that was number one.
The other thing is I talked to Melissa Woodhealth,
who I really respect in the wellness community.
And she told me that she read this book by Louise Hay called You Can Heal Your Life.
And I ordered a used thrift book off Amazon.
And it changed my life. I felt like I was on psychedelic mushrooms
for two weeks after reading it. I not only read it, I listened to it on Audible and I listened
to all her podcasts. And she's a lot older than us. I think she recently passed away,
but she was like 99 years old. And she has this whole philosophy about how you and your thoughts can heal your life.
So I started meditating using Luis's affirmations, like saying, I'm powerful, I'm strong, I'm
capable.
Instead of telling myself, I'm not where I want to be.
I don't want to look like that.
I started telling myself positive affirmations.
And it sounds like almost
woo-woo and stupid, but it really changed my mindset. And I noticed that what happened is
momentum. I started looking better, feeling better, feeling less stress, feeling less cortisol.
And I just have to say that book changed my life. It's $2 on Amazon, download it on Audible,
listen to it in your car.
And I think it goes along with everything
that we say in this podcast
is that you have the tools to create your own future
and you have the tools to create
the best version of yourself,
whatever that looks like.
And I wasn't applying that to the area
of postpartum depression, anxiety, and weight gain. I wasn't applying that to the area of postpartum depression, anxiety, and weight
gain.
I wasn't using that tool that we constantly discuss on the podcast.
I wasn't creating the future that I wanted to create.
And the second that that switch flipped for me, it changed my life.
So my meditation started to look so different.
It was more of like a visualization of what I was going to be for the future me
instead of what I didn't want.
So look at that book,
which brings me to my next thing.
I started daily meditation.
This is a funny one
because people would come on the podcast all the time
and be like,
oh, my morning routine is I meditate for 20 minutes
and then I meditate 20 minutes at night.
And I was like, what the fuck?
Like what? Who has time to meditate for 40 minutes a day? I thought that was
wild. I didn't understand it at all. It took me so much to even wrap my head around it. But then
when I kept hearing it from all these highly successful performers, these 1% performers,
I was like, okay, there's something to this I need to implement just a little bit into my life. So I started meditating and I just sat in silence and visualized what I wanted
to happen in the future, positive affirmations. And I did it with my legs up. That's just like
a side tip because I felt like it drained my ankles and inflammation and it also calmed my
nervous system. So I would do 10
minutes in the morning legs up meditation. And I just, the goal was to just do it once a day,
every morning. And then I started to like not get addicted to it, but just crave it.
So I upped it to 15 minutes. And now I am up at 20 minutes
and sometimes I'll do a nighttime meditation too
to go to bed.
And I think that it has helped so much.
It's helped me calm down.
It's helped me be less reactive.
It's helped me get in touch with myself,
become more positive, change my mindset.
And it's helped me create my future. And it's honestly, if I was looking at a toolbox, it's like the screwdriver. I'm not saying
meditation is for everyone. It's not a one size fits all. I'm just saying that was one of the
tools that I used that helped me to tighten up after pregnancy.
But it wasn't just about tightening up though.
Like I said, it was about just a different mindset.
And just so you don't think I'm crazy,
I did some research and found that
meditation benefits for weight loss are a real thing.
It reduces your cortisol and your C-reactive protein levels.
Okay, so I'm not crazy there But it also helps you become aware of your thoughts
And if you have shitty thoughts every single day and you're beating yourself up every single day and you're criticizing yourself and being negative
That is not going to make
You or me the best version of ourselves. So I think
monitoring your thoughts, being able to use meditation in a way to look at them and just
see what you're consuming and what those thoughts are is incredibly important.
Now I'm going to go over a couple of little tiny things I did. These are called tweaks. We'll call
them tweaks. Little tiny things that I think if
you do them consistently make a really big difference. The first one is sleep. I started
getting in bed way earlier because people are like, well, kids, it's so hard to get your sleep
in the morning. So I was like, okay, how can I hack this and optimize it? Kids usually go to bed, hopefully, praise be, around eight o'clock,
sometimes nine o'clock. And I was able to get in bed earlier. And so I made like a ritual around
sleep. I would get my room dark. I would do a red light, maybe a salt rock nightlight. I got that
hatch situation that helps you meditate and like turns the whole entire room red. I got a
weighted blanket. Shout out to Hush Blankets. I got blue light glasses. I got a Kindle. You guys
have seen that on my Instagram story. I think that having a Kindle is fucking amazing because you're
not staring at your phone. I would put my phone in the other room. I still do this, by the way. I turned on 528 frequency music,
which is 528 hertz was recommended to me by Mimi Bouchard. She was on this podcast. And basically,
it's healing frequencies. So it's not music. So I would listen to these healing frequencies
every single night, which is like sound bowl therapy. It's absolutely amazing. And so just
getting my room in an optimal position
for sleep was really important and I would fall asleep quicker. So I started getting in bed at
like nine o'clock and I would be asleep by 10. And I think a lot of people are like, I can't do that.
I would ask you, is your phone in bed with you? Are you laying next to your fucking phone? If you
are, that's probably why you can't go to bed.
So that's something that I think is huge. And it's so boring to say sleep, but it's so true.
Michael and I would start taking walks as the sun was going down to really get our circadian
rhythm in check. And I'm talking like a 10-minute walk, okay? Nothing crazy. And by the time we
get in bed, we'd be tired. And then we would start waking up around 6.30 or 7,
which was really great for work, for weight loss,
for tightening up, for anxiety.
So sleep.
The next thing I started doing
was really paying attention to herbs, supplements,
inulin, probiotics, chlorophyll,
all these different things.
I've told you a lot about the supplements
I take on this podcast. You know, I'm a big fan of Ritual Multivitamin. I love Just Thrive Probiotics. I love Array for
bloat. Talked about that. I love Gangster Chic Inulin for prebiotic and for fiber. I also have
herbs from my acupuncturist. I have sort of a plethora of things that I reach for. This is not,
again, a one-size-fits-all. You have to figure out what works for you. I also recommend if you're taking any kind of vitamin or supplement to see what's
in it. It's obviously very important to do your own research. I'm not going to sit here and like
prescribe you to a bunch of different things that I take. I take a lot of different things.
You got to do what works for you here. One thing though that I have heard across the board,
it's amazing for skin, for hair, for your blood is chlorophyll. That's something I would tell
everyone to look into. I put a couple of drops of that. I use Saccar Life in the morning in my water.
Also, the Philosophy also makes a good one too. And you put it in your water, you do lemon,
you do ice, maybe mint, ginger, and you just wake up to this lovely, delicious
cup of ice cold water.
I know it should be hot, but I don't care.
I love ice cold water in the morning with my ice roller.
And that I think is so great, especially if you're trying to get healthy.
It's such an easy little tool or trick that you can use.
And of course, I looked up chlorophyll for weight loss just
to give you a little bit of science on it. And there's a lot of studies on chlorophyll that say
people that took drops in their water had a greater chance of losing weight. And this podcast
is about weight loss. And this shouldn't be an uncomfortable subject to talk about.
So I'm going to keep saying that word. And I feel like
if that's triggering for anyone, then they just shouldn't click this podcast to begin with,
because the podcast is literally probably going to be called How I Lost the Pregnancy Weight.
As you know, I launched a humidifier, a pink humidifier. It is the Skinny Confidential
x Canopy. And it is the best fucking humidifier in the world. First of all, it doesn't mold.
They have this amazing design and technology that it doesn't mold ever. So you should know
that visible mists from traditional humidifiers are unhealthy due to the particles and bacteria being carried by the
water into the air. And Canopy has a mist-free hydration. It's invisible, it's clean moisture,
and it's the best for your skin and health. And that is exactly why I wanted to launch a
humidifier with Canopy. First of all, I got to create the humidifier of my dreams. So it's pink,
it's cute, but also it really, really works. And this one specifically is the best for skin.
So it's going to plump and give you that buttery, glowy, dewy look we all want.
I put mine on always at night.
I cannot live without it.
It's also helped me when I've had a cold or allergies.
They also have an antimicrobial filter that catches irritating minerals, bacterias,
and other nasty rat stuff from the water before
it's evaporated into your environment. These are things that you should look at if you're going to
invest in a humidifier because it's in your room running all of the time. You should also know
canopy goes right into the dishwasher, so it's really easy to clean and it has aromas. I picked
all three of the aromas. My favorite right now is the pink taffy. It smells like nostalgic saltwater taffy. Before I go, I also want to tell you that they recently launched a
diffuser. It's like the same. It's completely waterless. It's just like the humidifier. It's
mist-free. You never have to worry about annoying cleaning or mold from Canopy. You're going to go
to getcanopy.co to save $25 on your Canopy humidifier purchase today with Canopy's filter subscriptions.
You got to check out the Skinny Confidential one.
Plus, you'll receive a free aroma kit to be used with Canopy's built-in aroma diffuser.
Even better, use code SKINNY10 at checkout to save an additional 10% off your Canopy purchase.
Your skin will thank you. I had to reach out to Peak Tea to send me more tea because I have gone through
so much of the Ginger Digestion Elixir. It is the best tea. I don't know what it is,
but I just feel like every single time I have it, there's less inflammation in my body. It's helping to support my digestion. And also it's good for the gut. It's calming. There's no caffeine in it.
It's absolutely amazing. But the main reason that I am a fan of peak tea, and I've said this before,
is there's so many nasty ass microplastics in tea bags. And peak tea is this little tiny skinny
packet. You just open it up up pour the tea in and then do
the water so it's not sitting in your water soaking up all of those gross bacteria weird
molds from the tea bag something to look into the other two products that i would get from peak tea
these are my picks are the sun goddess matcha i love their matcha it's the best matcha ever
their matcha is organic ceremonial grade matcha ever. Their matcha is organic ceremonial grade
matcha, which is super important to look for. And it's also, of course, quadruple toxin screened
for purity. And then the other thing that I would check out are their little packets of vitamin C.
I like to take these with my tea in the morning. They make a great addition to my skincare routine.
Vitamin C is so important. I learned this after writing my book,
Get the Fuck Out of the Sun, for your skin. So it really helps you glow from the inside out.
So I got my ginger tea, I got my vitamin C packets. And then if I don't want to do a cup of coffee
or a second cup of coffee, I do my Sun Goddess Matcha. You are going to head over to

Okay, moving right along. So get your herbs, your supplements, your probiotics, your chlorophyll
cabinet ready to go. I have a cabinet. I just reach for it every morning. It's quick. It's like
boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. That's another thing. You want to make sure everything is like super accessible and easy. Speaking on that,
I then have like a little area where I have go-to superfoods. So like hemp seed, chia seed, dates,
my green powder, everything that I need right there. And I really started adding chia and hemp
seed to everything. And I think this had a huge impact on me tightening up because the chia was the fiber.
And chia is so great because it expands in your stomach.
I love the way it tastes on like fruit or in smoothies.
And then also hemp seed, three tablespoons of hemp seed equals 10 grams of protein.
So I was able to implement protein
very easily. So I love fruit in the morning. I'll do a bunch of chia, a bunch of hemp,
some inulin, and it's absolutely delicious. I'm having a real pomegranate seed kick right now.
And I'll do boysenberry on it, blueberries. I'm a big berry fan because it's so much fiber.
And I just love that plate.
And then if I want to add a healthy fat, I'll do almond butter. Or recently, I've been just
so into the coconut colts yogurt. It's like coconut meat yogurt with good bacteria in it.
It's so delicious. They also have this other one that's so good for dessert at night.
It's like a tangent. And it's a chocolate mousse situation. It's so good for dessert at night. It's like a tangent. And it's a chocolate mousse situation.
It's so good with berries. It's honestly like, I don't know. Just try it. Okay.
And this coconut coal is like just a great healthy fat. So those are some little products that I
love. They're whole foods. They're superfoods. I think it's so important if you are trying to get healthy to have these things accessible. Okay. So the tongue scraper
is by the toothbrush and the vitamins and supplements and herbs are in one section.
And then you've got your like little smoothie section and you can just grab, grab, grab, grab,
grab and go because we all know the mornings can get hectic and throughout the day you get hectic.
So to have those tools on hand ready to grab
is incredibly beneficial
to whatever goal you're going for health-wise.
I did another little thing.
This isn't a little thing.
This was a real bitch.
I did 70 days, no alcohol.
Daily movement, daily meditation.
People are like, why 70 days? I don't know.
70 days just felt right. There was no method to my madness. I was getting in shape for a
Cabo trip and that was 70 days and I just liked 70 days. So I decided to cut all alcohol. I wanted
to be the most clear. I'm launching a lot of new products this year and I wanted to have clarity
there. And I also just felt like it wasn't serving my journey, which was getting in the best shape I
could. So I cut that and I added 20 minutes of meditation. This is when I made the jump instead
of 15 or 10. And then I just committed to daily movement. And that could mean freaking
going on a bike ride, taking a walk, walking the baby, whatever it was, just implementing
movement into my day every single day. And when people tell me that they don't have time,
you make time for what's important to you. That's a fact. And if it's important to you to sit on your couch
and scroll through Instagram, then that's what's important to you. The I don't have time excuse is,
in my opinion, bullshit. I think if you don't have 10 minutes for yourself, I think Tony Robbins said
this, you don't have a life. You can take a 10-minute walk. I think that for me, my health and well-being is
incredibly important to me before work, even before my family in some instances, because it's
my health. And if I'm not healthy, I can't be present and effective as a mother, as a wife,
as a business owner. So what I would tell you, the tactic, the system would be to put it on your calendar
seven days a week.
I put mine in yellow.
It's non-negotiable.
Five days out of seven days, I invite a friend.
So like I'll do a calendar invite and invite Weston to a workout with me.
And that holds me accountable to meet him there.
And I'll schedule my work day after I get my workout in.
And if I can't do that, then I'll walk.
If I can't do that, then I'll walk during a conference call.
If I can't do that, then I'll lay on the ground
and do P-Volv or Melissa Wood Health or The Method
or work out with my trainer, Kim Kelly in San Diego
on Skype while I'm on a call.
I will literally find a way to fit it in. And that to
me is just like, it fills me up. I need to move to feel good. It's not even about weight. It's about
just having clarity and peace of mind. Next up is something that I've talked about a little bit,
and I've actually had my trainer in Austin on the podcast, but I
want to touch on more because it really helped me to tighten up. Not even about weight loss here.
It's more about muscle tone. Muscle weighs more than fat, as you know. So I just noticed that all
my clothes were fitting better because I started incorporating weight training into my routine.
Now, before weight training, I was doing P-Volv, Melissa
Wood Health, and tons and tons of Pilates. And I still am doing those three workouts. I love those
three workouts. They're like ride or die workouts. But I wasn't lifting heavy weights. And when I say
heavy, I mean a little bit heavier for me, not like super heavy. So the reason I wasn't doing that is because I thought it spiked my cortisol.
And I am not a boot camp person.
I'm not someone who likes to do HIIT.
I think it raises your cortisol.
I don't want to be yelled at.
I don't want loud music playing in the background.
I don't want gangster rap on when I'm trying to work out.
It's just not my vibe.
So I avoided gyms with weights in them.
And then I met my trainer here in Austin, Brent, and we started incorporating weightlifting into
my routine. And with that, I could not believe the difference. My pants fit better. I felt tighter.
That with Melissa Wood Health, P-Volv, I love the method, and a little bit of Pilates is
absolutely amazing. So I think those go really well together. And I did learn that weightlifting
is a low cortisol workout. I was more referring to like HIIT and bootcamp that I didn't like.
So if you are struggling and in a rut and you're plateauing and you're doing all these incredible workouts, but you're not weightlifting, I would look into it, especially for women.
There is so many benefits.
And I feel so good after I lift weights.
I probably do it three times a week.
I don't go super, super heavy.
And I'm not like walking out of there dripping sweat.
Okay.
I do about 50 minutes.
The music is like Hermanos Gutierrez. So super low vibes. I'm not like walking out of there dripping sweat, okay? I do about 50 minutes.
The music is like Hermanos Gutierrez. So super low vibes, sometimes bossa nova.
I'm not getting screamed at or yelled at.
I'm not being told to jump on the elliptical
and like go as fast as I can.
We're not doing anything like that, okay?
So we're not spiking my cortisol.
And I looked into it because you know I had to.
And I just wanted to share some benefits of weight training for women. And you guys can go
do your own research on this, but I just noticed I've become stronger. It's burning fat. I'm
tightening up. Some of the benefits are it reduces your risk of pain. You gain strength without
bulking. It enhances your mood, reduces stress. It improves fat loss,
and you build lean muscles. You feel amazing. It strengthens your bones. It's so good as you age.
And there's this myth that it makes women bulky. And I think that's because we're talking heavy
lifting. I'm lifting weights. They're just not super heavy. So I would say weightlifting is definitely something that is on this list
that helped me lean out,
tighten up and burn fat.
I can't believe what a difference it made.
If you want to go and listen to the podcast
with Bodies by Brent that we did,
it's up.
You can learn all about it.
And I would say mixing that with Melissa Wood,
P-Volv, The Method, Pilates is like key. And just so you know, I will not be going to
bootcamp or hit or getting yelled at or listening to gangster rap anytime soon. I'm still not into
that. I have an aversion to that. Okay, so this is for the parents out there, or this could be a
great gift if you're going to a kid's birthday.
Zaza has been needing some stimulation, okay? Sometimes she's inside and I need to give her
little crafts or little tasks while mommy ice rolls. You know what I mean? So enter KiwiCo
subscription. You guys, this has been such a lifesaver. Your child basically gets to make
new discoveries all year long, which is really working. Your child basically gets to make new discoveries all
year long, which is really working. Your child gets to explore the science and chemistry of
cooking, geography and culture from new places, and art and design. I actually brought this on
my most recent vacation to Switzerland. I brought her the rainbow kit. So there's this little rainbow
kit. She absolutely loved it. And it tells you how rainbows are formed. It's so cute. So what I did is I went to the site. It's kiwicoat.com.
And then you can pick the age of the child that you're looking for. So I picked two to four.
Say like if you had a birthday party, you could just go and pick. And then you can order. Super,
super easy. And then mommy and daddy get a break and your child gets a super cool
hands-on science art or geography project delivered straight to your door. The day these boxes arrive,
your kid is going to freak out. I know this because I've recommended this to a couple of
my friends and they've tested it out on their kids. Zaza is very challenged by these projects,
but she also loves them and she creates things. We have stuff
out in her toy room that she's created and I feel like she feels good about it. Redefine learning
with play and get 50% off your first month plus free shipping on any crate line. You're going to
use code skinny at kiwico.com. Like I said, if you're a parent and you need to have your kid
do something interactive,
fun, that's not the phone or TV, this is for you.
And this is a great gift. That's 50% off your first month at K-I-W-I-C-O.com.
Promo code SKINNY.
Other little things I did was a lot of grounding.
So I would wake up, put my feet on the ground.
The ions that come from the earth are absolutely incredible for you. If you can get to the beach,
it's like even better. If you're hungover and you go to the beach and you put your fucking feet on
the sand or you go in the waves, you will feel better. It is so crazy how healing the earth is.
And we've lost the plot with that. People aren't paying attention
to the little simple things that make a big difference.
So I can't obviously get to the beach all the time.
I'm in Austin.
I go outside.
I put my feet on the grass.
It feels so good.
Just for like five minutes,
Zaza and I will like go touch a tree.
Sounds weird, but like you just touch a tree.
It's super grounding and earthing and just get outside. And I would ask, I guess the follow-up question to this is,
when is the last time that you touched your feet onto the earth? Like actually think about that.
I would say 90% of the people that are listening cannot remember. I asked Taylor, my producer,
this by the way. And he's like, I'm barefoot all the time.
I'm like on your carpet.
He's like, oh, well, yeah.
So ground yourself wherever that is.
Five minutes out of your day.
Get in nature.
Take walks outside.
And then other little things.
I upped my argan oil and olive oil intake.
I think olive oil and argan oil are so incredible for you.
It's a good healthy fat. I use that on salads. I cook eggs with it. Sometimes I even do a shot
of this olive oil. I don't know the brand name. You guys are going to kill me and you're going
to DM me about this. It's like this olive oil that you shoot in the morning and you just take
a shot of it and it's so good. But yeah, there's like all different ways you can incorporate olive oil.
And then two random things that I started eating on a daily basis and I want to do blog posts on
both of these. I've actually done a blog post on one, but on the other,
oomboski paste. It's from Japan and I just got addicted to it. The taste is acquired,
but I think it's like one of the top superfoods in the world.
And we had Rainey on who's a blogger
and she told me all about the benefits of it.
So I'm not crazy.
I went and did all the research on it.
It's an antibacterial.
It's highly alkaline.
It's good for acid reflex, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, hangovers. It's so good for
you because it has so much iron and calcium in it. I am just a huge fan of it. It's so random.
You guys, I don't even know what to say. I googled authentic Japanese mboshki paste
and just tried a bunch of different ones and I am addicted to it. Okay. So my emboschke paste, like it's good. Okay. The one that I use right now is like Emperor
something. And then I also was drinking a lot of tea, ginger digestive tea by, you guessed it,
Peak Tea. We have a code skinny that you can use. That is my favorite tea. I drink so much of that
every day. I like it iced.
I like it with a couple ginger slices in it, maybe some fucking lemon. It's so good. Or I like it hot
in the morning. I think it's helped my digestion. I love it. Everyone on my team knows I love it.
And then Pu-erh tea. And I hope I'm pronouncing this right. This is a tea from China that I
discovered when I went to Beijing. It's called skinny tea in China. All the girls there told me about it. And it's a tea that
I have been drinking a lot. Peak tea makes it as well. It's not one of those like flat tummy tea
bullshit. If you Google it, you can Google the skinny confidential pu-erh tea. It's spelled
P-U-E-R-H-T. I did a huge blog post on it after I went to China and talked about all the perks.
And one of the main perks is weight loss. So that's a tea that I constantly went to and I
still go to. I love it. It increases the speed of your digestion and it's known to reduce fat.
I like it hot. They say it's better hot. You got to try it. It's not like an amazing taste, but again,
it's another acquired taste that I've really started to love. The thing about me as I end
this episode is that you are always going to get every little detail. I'm not holding back here,
okay? I'm giving you the goods. This is every little tiny thing I have done to lose the baby weight. I'm not going to
tell you it was easy. It was a bitch. Took me two years, like I said. I'm not going to tell you it
was easy that I gained 55 pounds. None of it was easy. But I do feel this whole experience has,
I don't even want to say made me a better person. It's increased my empathy, my compassion.
It's been eye-opening. It's been a million things. It's been good for me to go through this. I'm
happy I went through this. And I'm happy that there's someone that's listening right now that
maybe can take one of these tips and use it. This episode I told you from the beginning wasn't going to be a quick fix. It's
really every little tiny thing I did. I remember when I was in high school and I would ask one of
the older like popular girls a question and the bitch would give me this general broad answer and
she wouldn't even answer the question. It was like a roundabout way. And I remember being young and
being so frustrated with that. And it would happen time and time and time again. Recently, it just happened.
I was in France and this girl was wearing this amazing, gorgeous caftan. It was like so pretty.
And I went up to her and I said, you are so beautiful. And that caftan is stunning. What's
the brand? And she looked me straight in the eye. And how
many times has this happened to you guys? It's happened to everyone. She goes, I don't know.
A family member gave it to me. I'm sorry. And kind of walked away. And those conversations
were happening to me all the time. It was frustrating. I'm a person who's curious.
I want to have conversations and swap secrets, as you know,
from my book, Picking 100 Influencers, Celebrities, Podcasters, Doctors, Brains. I want to know
stuff on a very detailed level. And that's just how I am. It's been how I've always been.
And so when I do a podcast like this, it's important for me To give you what I would want to hear if I was trying to lose weight
So that's what I did
I hope that
This wasn't too overwhelming
I am just trying to be honest
as fucking always
