Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to the Bostics, starring Lauren Bostic and Michael Bostick. Together, they are the Bostics. Summer House is all the rage. I mean, it is all over the news. And on this episode, we sat down with Jesse Solomon. Not only is he a rock star right now when it comes to reality television. He also has a really compelling story that I'm excited to share with you guys. On this episode, Jesse opens up about navigating his life in the spotlight,
Starting point is 00:00:34 overcoming testicular cancer, and he emphasizes the importance of gratitude and mental health. With that, let's welcome Jesse Solomon to the Bostics. So I am a super fan of Summerhouse. I've watched every single season. I could dissect it like a cadaver on the table. I was saying, like, the game operation that you used to play when you were little, I will pull the funny bone out.
Starting point is 00:00:55 I love watching the human dynamics of it. I'm obsessed. It's not just the reality TV that I wanted you on the show for. There's so many different facets of you that I find fascinating. And you just played a concert last night until what time? Well, the show went from about 9 to 10. And then I got to meet everybody after for probably almost an hour. And then we packed up all the gear, took the Sprinter van back to the hotel and went to Waffle House.
Starting point is 00:01:26 And no alcohol. No booze. And I feel bad because people will buy me shots and stuff and I'm just like, I just can't take that. Ever or like you're done? No, I mean, I'm on a show about partying in the Hamptons. When you're doing that, you're taking it easy. Yeah, I just figure like it's, I've got a lot of work to do and I want to give it my best. And I'm already having trouble giving my best performance every night with all the travel, singing for an hour at a time.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Like, I trained a lot to get to a place where I can sing for an hour at a time well, but it's still like with the flying, the driving, dehydration, like, difficult. Yeah. When you go on this show, did you have the strategy of wanting to do music? No. I've sang my entire life. Okay. I went to music school at the University of Miami.
Starting point is 00:02:18 And I got, we can talk about my career path and how I got here. But I went into the show thinking, oh, maybe I'll launch like a consumer product at some point. I didn't think I would launch a music career, but it just was like the thing making me happy and what I wanted to do. I'm on a 16, we just added a show in Atlantic City 17 city tour. So what number two, what number on the tour was this show last night was show number six. And, oh damn, you're just getting into it. After this podcast, I'm so blessed to be here with you too. Thanks for having me. I'm driving to Dallas. The band is picking me up and I have a show in Dallas tonight. And are you single on this 17
Starting point is 00:03:03 city tour? My single? Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so single, no attachments. None. I have a crush. You have a crush. Yeah. But here's my thing when guys say you have a crush. Let me talk to you about this. When you say that you have a crush, that could insinuate the crushes in New York or San Diego. Maybe you have 10 crushes and the crush that's listening thinks they're the crush. I'm not saying this for her. I'm just talking to you guys. You're saying because you have a crush. Yeah, I don't think she's listening.
Starting point is 00:03:31 But she's not on the show. No. No more crush is on the show? I hope this summer. This crush isn't being as reciprocated as I would like. So we'll see where it goes. The guy always ends up falling in love with the girl that doesn't like him back. Yeah, she's playing the game well.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Unfortunately, I don't like to play games. You don't like to play games. No, no, no, no. I'm not like, I'm going to wait to text back. Like, if I like you, you'll know it. And if you like me back, we'll go on dates and hopefully become something more than friends. How do you manage going on this show that is like the, I feel like you guys are like the rock star of Bravo right now? So, like, you're on this show that's like everyone's watching it.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And then you also have your real life and you're touring and you're touring. you say you have a crush. How do you manage balancing all of that? The show is based off of our real lives. So you just kind of show up and try your best to be yourself with giant cameras in your face. So I would say that's like my main objective is don't do anything I wouldn't do in real life because I'm on Summerhouse. Obviously like you're in this microcosm and relationships happen faster, friendships get deeper, quicker, you're talking about really vulnerable stuff. So it all kind of spirals quickly and like that's what creates a good show, I think. But our show is based off of genuine real friendships and it's not just like a show friendship. I think you can feel if it was
Starting point is 00:05:13 fake. And I think that's why what just happened was like so ground shattering, like hurt. everyone so bad because we had such a good thing going and for our friends to just like betray our trust really hurt everyone not to talk about that whole situation but does that mean so like can people go back now and continue to do the show I'm like I'm I'm in but I'm not as in I'm on the outside I'm watching all this now and I'm hearing about obviously I hear about all of this like can can you guys be like all right back to work or I think it's going to take time to repair the the trust that's been lost if possible. It's been tough for me because I'm kind of like friends with everybody. Obviously like
Starting point is 00:05:58 Sierra and Kyle are the people that deserve the sympathy here, not me. But yeah, it just like hurts deep when you get lied to by people that you're like really close friends with. When you had the epiphany of realizing that that two of your best friends were hooking up behind everyone's back, were you, was it like got punched? How did you feel? Yeah. I had been hearing the rumors for a while, so I wasn't, like, surprised, but I was kind of shocked that they would lie to me. Yeah, it was really upsetting. I was trying to explain it to my husband. And I'm like, it's like if you and I lived in a house. I love when people try to explain it. It's like so difficult. It's hard to explain. But I said if I was, he has a best friend named Weston.
Starting point is 00:06:50 if I was having sex with Weston and then the girl that Weston used to have sex with and date was your best friend was my best friend right? Did I explain it right? Yeah I mean it's like you have two couples they both break up two people hook up with each other and you've got these like friends that are left in the crossair crossfire Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And like everybody's getting hurt for a different reason. Yeah. Like West and Kyle were friends too. People are forgetting that. Like that was one of his buddies. Wait, the guy's name is West? Yeah. Oh.
Starting point is 00:07:34 No, it's West. Oh, West. Now I'm going to get really fucking confused because I just, because now I'm thinking about West in, but it's West. Just don't get involved. How do you feel, and I'm sure you feel happy about how Sierra has been received by the public? I guess that's a silver lining of this whole situation happening to her. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Sierra is a really good person. She cares a lot about her friends. She's taught me a lot of, like, good lessons of things that, like, you just wouldn't typically think of as a boy. So I'm just, like, grateful to her, and I'm glad that everybody else sees how amazing she is. What's a lesson that she's taught you? Well, I mean, this summer, this past summer, I thought I was doing the right thing by checking with my buddy to see if he would be upset if I pursued his ex. And I didn't realize that that could make her feel objectified.
Starting point is 00:08:33 She obviously means way more to me than just like somebody I would want to hook up with. And so I never meant to make her feel that way. And it really hurt me to see how upset she was. I wish I had spoken to her first. And obviously I was going to have a more serious conversation with her after I had talked to West about it. She taught me a good lesson that, like, you can't just be cavalier in the way that you go about dating. Does this stuff get real messy just because you guys are in such close proximity and there's maybe nobody else around? Is that what happens?
Starting point is 00:09:05 You're like in a fishbowl with all these cameras and you're with each other all day long. And so everybody's kind of like, oh, well, it kind of reminds you know when you're in school as a kid, you kind of just like date within the school because you're not out like it but then this is even more microscopic yeah i think like proximity is like a really big thing like you end up dating the people that you're spending time with you end up friends with people that are close to you you fall apart with friends that are in different states over time because like proximity is a big factor in relationships so yeah if we're like going to the hamptons and only with each other for 48 hours straight. Like, you know, what's one date? You spend two hours with someone. Like, that first weekend in the
Starting point is 00:09:50 house, you've already slept under the same Ruth for all these hours. Like, it's like, if you hang out with somebody for a full weekend, it's like, what, 10 dates? Yep. So when you go back to explain to Michael, so Jesse dated one of the girls in the house, you guys sort of, West. No, you. Lexi. Jesse? Lexi. Lexi. Long, this is. So, this is. This is. This is. This is. This is. a long time ago. You dated one of the girls in the house. Here's my question. Would you do it again in the future or is that off limits for you? No, going back to my point about like doing what you would do in real life, like this is my real life. Yeah. Carson, go get me a whiteboard with a right with a amount. How do I explain? It's like yeah, I would I would definitely date somebody that I was attracted to on the
Starting point is 00:10:37 show. I would take it way slower. Okay. I just like didn't see. That's another lesson Sierra taught me. She's like, slow the fuck down. Yeah. And I didn't see a reason to slow down. I was like, I like this girl. She likes me. We're having a great time.
Starting point is 00:10:56 You guys were cute too. Why wait? Sweet. Is the crush, Kristen Cavaleri? I mean, that's this whole separate crush. Yeah, I'm obsessed with her. Oh, okay, so that's a separate crush. But I think we're just friends. Okay, because you guys would be cute.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Totally. I'm just throwing it out there in the ether. Yeah. What do you think, Kristen? Get back to us. She'll hear this. When all of this comes out, how is Andy Cohen involved in all of it? Is he texting you guys? Is he waiting for the reunion?
Starting point is 00:11:27 What is his energy on everything that's been going on? I think Andy feels for us. You know, the reunion was really intense. He actually sent me a nice text after the reunion because he saw like how hurt I was. when you know he went on and made that video being like i've done 150 reunions that was like one of the more intense reunions i've ever done so yeah he's just like the facilitator you know he does watch what happens he does the reunion he's not like entrenched in the friend group but he sees it all i'm so sorry for you this is going to be a fucking ratings juggernaut Andy Cohen said that that was
Starting point is 00:12:07 the most i saw i saw that i'm not that under a rock i did see that part reunion that's that is crazy that he said it was the most intense reunion out of 150 reunions. Yeah, I, I cried like a handful of times. I was crying all day. I was a mess. Carl's a mess. I was a mess. Are you crying because of how this has affected the group's dynamic? Are you crying because you don't have anyone to talk to about this very, it's this is a very specific niche thing that you guys are going through? I was crying because I, I was crying because I, I hadn't taken the time to deal with the emotions and the lying. And I thought that West was going to come to the reunion with something that was going to make people feel better and that we were going to be able to walk out of there.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Not turning the page, but at least having apologized and being able to move forward and maybe West and Sierra could somehow like, take another two-year path to being friends again. Who are the people the most upset with? This guy West or the woman involved? Or both? Both. Both. Who is the audience more upset with?
Starting point is 00:13:26 I mean, I think they're just pretty disgusted with both of them right now. Who should I be upset with, learn? I think it's a really hard situation. I think there's a lot of layers to it. I'm pissed at both of them. And I think also there's a lot of things that we probably don't see. Mm-hmm. So I think I don't like to be the judge and juror. That doesn't work well. I feel like sometimes
Starting point is 00:13:45 the public wants to be like judging. And the problem with that is that they don't get to see every single thing. And you could correct me if I'm wrong and be like, no, you've seen everything. But it feels like there's like more. No, I mean, there's 42 and a half minutes and we're in the house for 48 hours. Like you don't see everything. And then there's our real lives outside of the house. So I didn't see everything with West and Amanda and I was probably like around it the most. And so when your friends are telling you that there's nothing going on and it's easy to just believe them. Like, oh, okay. Could you not sense like any energy or anything? Yeah, there was like a series of events where I was like, you guys are totally fucking. And they were like, no, West is my boy.
Starting point is 00:14:31 like, and Wes is like, dude, you'd be the first person I would tell. And I was like, okay. Are you afraid to go out in public with them right now? Afraid? Maybe afraid's the wrong word. Hesitant. As a couple? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I don't want to. It's just like unnecessary drama in my life. Like I have this whole tour planned. I'm releasing music. and this stuff all happens and like this becomes the focus. Like West is supposed to come to my show in Kansas City with his family. And I'm like, I don't, am I supposed to tell him not to come? Like, that's a guy that's been there for me.
Starting point is 00:15:17 He's been a real friend. Then again, like, I don't have patience for people who lie and hook up with exes without a conversation prior. Like, that's happened to me in the past. and so I know how it feels if one of your best friends hooks up with one of your exes. So are people giving you shit
Starting point is 00:15:36 thinking that you might have known more than you did? Yeah. He picks up fast. I did not tell him that. That's not on the note card. Yeah, that's been a whole thing that I guess I haven't really spoken about.
Starting point is 00:15:47 But I kind of just ignore it because I know the truth. Yeah. But yeah, definitely like... The reason I pick up on that, I'm assuming if you guys were that close and you know how guys are like, guys are,
Starting point is 00:15:56 you become boys of someone. So that I would assume that people like, this guy must have known. Yeah. That's probably, yeah, there's less of that now. And I think as the reunion airs,
Starting point is 00:16:04 it'll be pretty clear what I knew and didn't know. Amanda apologized to me right away after they released the statement saying, I'm sorry that we dragged you into this. Oh, because she knew you weren't as aware as people were. Yeah, I mean, she knew that she lied to me.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yeah, West didn't pick up on the fact that, like, I've been getting heat for people thinking that I knew. But it's not a big deal. You know, what I see, can I tell you my dynamic? Hell yeah. There's a bit of a liaison fairness and a blaziness from West that is not, is what I see the cast in you not liking.
Starting point is 00:16:50 It feels like instead of him coming and saying, I made a really big mistake. and I was out of line and I'm sorry. There's a kind of like this like lays on fair, blasé, this that I think people are like, it's almost like a beta blocker maybe. Like it's not an acknowledgement of. He's not apologetic? Yeah, there's not accountability.
Starting point is 00:17:17 This is what I see. I haven't seen the reunion. Yeah. Well, he does apologize, but that's kind of like all. he does. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lied. I know that now you can't believe anything that I say because I lied, but I'm sorry. But he didn't, I mean, Andy even calls him out for it. Like, do you see your friends are like torn up about this? So it's debatable. Like it's like almost like
Starting point is 00:17:45 it's almost like a detached. He's detached. Well, and he's been off social media and you know, like KJ read that text and he's, he's said something similar to me. Like he didn't. realize the gravity of the situation because he hasn't been seeing all the negativity online. So yeah, I think I think you're spot on. But the problem is, is like, do you have to see the gravity of the public all throwing tomatoes to come with your tail between your legs and say, and actually give a real judgment. Yeah, you shouldn't. It's a good point.
Starting point is 00:18:16 So I think the reunion, it sounds like, Lauren, you're stirring the fucking pot, man. No, no, no. I hear you. I know you. I'm, I told you, I like human dynamics. and I like to watch it all. And I think what the cast was wanting at the reunion was some genuine accountability
Starting point is 00:18:33 and no ego. Lauren likes to drop a grenade in the middle of the dinner table and walk away and say, oh, what the hell happened here? I do this thing called prompts. You'll love us. So when we go on vacation, we go with like the same 14 people.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Not every time. You got to mix it up. It's kind of like summer house, but vacation. And... Sounds like a show. It's kind of a show. It's a show. It's a fucking show.
Starting point is 00:18:55 But the thing is, is I do this thing called dinner prompts. And each prompt is like something to like stir it. No, it'll be like, one of our friends will be dating a brand new person or something. And they'll be like, let's go around the table and talk about your craziest sexual experience. And then you just like to watch everybody kind of like. And the couples are probably like, that wasn't with me. She does the shit. She does it because she wants to be entertained.
Starting point is 00:19:22 No, I like, I just, well, this is why like reality television. It's like an outlet. No, I think that's a great idea. Who wants to just sit through the same dinner with 14 people every night? No, prompts are helpful. You like go through and everybody gets to kind of like do a topic like that. Yeah, we do that at Summer House. Yeah, I mean, it's fun.
Starting point is 00:19:39 So my point is... It's just not filmed for the world. This is my thing with the reunion is I think they wanted some closure, some accountability, some no ego. Yeah, you'll have to watch the reunion. I mean, there's three parts. So hopefully you'll see a lot of it. I heard there's three points.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I want to talk about the journey that you've showed separately from Summerhouse, which is a totally different twist. I make my kids this thing called chocolate water. and it's such a hack because they think they're drinking a chocolate milkshake, and little do they know
Starting point is 00:21:56 they're actually having bone broth. Bone broth protein, to be specific. There is this chocolate bone broth protein powder by Paleo Valley that I am so into. I have put so many of my friends onto it. It's delicious. Here's what you do. I use a little bit of milk for my kids, and I pour a big scoop. I think it's like 20 grams of protein. In there, I froth it up and then I add water and ice and they love it. They think it's such a treat. For my own self, I'll do water at the end of the night just to make sure I hit my protein goal and I'll froth it up, water, again, a little ice, a straw, I'm good to go.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I'm obsessed with this. You've got to try it. So many people love this bone broth protein. It tastes delicious. C15 from Fadi 15, the first emerging essential fatty acid to be discovered in more than 90 years. It's an incredible scientific breakthrough to support our long-term health and wellness,
Starting point is 00:23:34 and you guessed it, healthy aging. Faty 15, co-founder, Dr. Stephanie Van Watson, discovered the benefits of C-15 while working with the U.S. Navy to continually improve the health and welfare of older dolphins. I didn't even know the Navy had dolphins, but they do, I highly suggest you check out that episode we did with Dr. Stephanie Ben Watson. It's fascinating. But based on over 100 studies, we now know that C-15 strengthens our cells and is a foundational
Starting point is 00:23:56 healthy aging nutrient, which helps to slow aging at the cellular level. And in fact, when our cells don't have enough C-15, they become fragile and age faster. And when our cells age, our bodies age too. This is why Lauren and I have been taking fatty 15 for the last few years now. Every single day, we take it multiple times a day. And it's because we want high C-15 levels. as many as one in three people worldwide may have low C-15 levels and fragile cells. You do not want this.

I had one of my nuts taken out, and then a year later, it spread to the lymph nodes, my stomach, and I had four rounds of chemo and went bald and the whole thing. Wow. How old were you? I was 24 the first time.
Starting point is 00:25:18 How do you process that mentally when you're that age? It's got to be so terrifying. What's going through your mind to get through that period of time? Yeah, I think I felt lucky to have caught it early. And the prognosis was really good for somebody in my situation. I went for a checkup. I went to the doctor in New York. I heard my Jewish mother in the back of my head like,
Starting point is 00:25:44 go get your annual physical. And I went and the doctor said, I don't think this is anything, but you should probably go get another test. I had like a twinge of pain in my nut, but like sometimes nuts hurt randomly. So it was like I didn't think anything of it. And I was traveling around for work.
Starting point is 00:26:04 And I came back. I was like, oh, I should get that test. I get the test and the hospital calls me right away. And they were like, come back. And I was like, I did like a STD panel. I did this test, whatever. And I was like, I must have chlamydia. Like my life is over.
Starting point is 00:26:26 And I go back to the doctor's office. I was like, all right, doc, like, I've never had chlamydia. I can't believe it. He's like, so you have cancer. And we're going to have to probably give you chemo and radiation and remove one of your testicles. And once we remove the testicle, we'll know, like, what's next for you? And I was like, where's Ashton?
Starting point is 00:26:46 Am I getting punked right now? Like, what is going on? Because I'd lived a very blessed life up until that point. And I still am very blessed. But nothing like that had ever happened to me. I was just like, you know, shocked. And then you always have this, like, voice in the back of your head that's like, what if you're one of the unlucky ones?
Starting point is 00:27:08 But I had great doctors, a great support system. my family and friends were there for me and you just kind of look at it as like this shitty period of your life that you're going to hopefully get through and you're going to be better for it on the other side and that's kind of like how I feel now and obviously a lot of people aren't as lucky as I was but I think that's like really the only mentality you can have going into something like that is to try and be positive and do everything you can to fight it the best you can. What does that do for your perspective on life after going through something like that? Yeah, it's been great. I would say that like I live every day with such joy, just happy to be
Starting point is 00:27:54 alive. And that's like what my tour is called the Happy to Be Here tour. And I did start to struggle a little bit with my mental health recently because I was kind of losing that gratitude and I was like, what the fuck is wrong with me? Like, you are so lucky. You have so much. You're doing so well. You're getting to do what you love to do. Like, why are you not as happy as you used to be after you had just beaten cancer? They're just kind of like this weird guilt for not being as happy as I once was, but I'm really good right now. And I'm loving being on tour and like doing music and I feel great. Like it feels like what I'm supposed to be doing. But definitely like there have been some mental battles with like the whole cancer stuff. Yeah. I think that's probably why
Starting point is 00:28:52 they call gratitude or practice because you have to keep, I mean, and it sounds like you do, but it just feels like that makes sense that you would feel like that because if you don't practice it every day if you miss a couple days like that it makes sense that you would struggle with your mental health later on yeah yeah i i haven't heard that as much gratitude as a practice yeah human beings do a really good job of basically forgetting the progress they make and they feel like you know like say that say you try to climb i'm just going to use an easy reference you climb you climb the mountain, you get to the top of the mountain, that's what you've been working your whole life for, and then you're there. And then you take a couple steps back and like, my life sucks,
Starting point is 00:29:34 but you don't realize that you're still a million steps ahead of where you originally once were, but that little regression feels like misery. No, totally. You get so normalized to every step forward that you take that you have to remember. That's why people, as it relates to success and even like financial well-being, they think that one day they're going to reach a certain amount of that, and then it's going to make them happy. They don't realize, like it just becomes the new norm. Right. You just keep going. Yeah. And then, And then if you, you know, say you make a million dollars, if all of a sudden in the next year you make a lot less, you feel like a loser. But it's like, don't forget, you did that.
Starting point is 00:30:05 I'm using an extreme example. But people get, you know, like they think that the number is going to solve their happiness. If you can't, if you can't be happy and grateful along the way and throughout the process, it's never going to happen for you. Yeah. And I've always been really focused on making a lot of money. And, you know, I'm starting to make money. But I do think that I'll look back on this period where I'm like, you know, not like super duper wealthy i don't have like i haven't had some exit in a business that was crazy
Starting point is 00:30:34 that i'll look back on this period and be like that was the most fun i ever had the best advice i've ever heard about money is that money solves money problems that's about it yeah like it won't solve internal issues it won't solve things with your family it won't solve the way you're great it'll only take care of financial burdens and some people say oh if i get rid of the financial burdens, I'll be happy. But there's all the other baggage. And personally, in my life, there's been a diminishing return as you make more and more money. Like, there's certain levels where if you can take care of your bills and, you know, not worry about what it's going to cost to go out to dinner and your groceries, maybe take a nice vacation. Like, that has a real
Starting point is 00:31:17 cascading effect. But after that, like, just adding more on top of the pile, you do get a diminishing return. It could be depressing, actually. It's, I think the journey is like the best part. But I do think that having a family will be a really fulfilling experience and having money to do that and just, like, allow your kids to do whatever they want to do. That'll feel good. You're going to be a great dad. I can't wait. Yeah, you're going to be a really, really good dad. I can tell.
Starting point is 00:31:44 And it seems like something you're excited about. Yeah. That's what's brought us the most joy of everything, probably becoming parents. How many? Three. Whoa. I know. So fun.
Starting point is 00:31:53 There's a lot of kids. A lot of kids. No, but to your point, like, you know, the best. part about having kids and I think you'll you'll like this you strike me as someone who like you get to basically like live the best parts of life all over again like through their perspective yeah I didn't touch on the sunrise day camp yes please such an amazing organization I mean the way that the the kids are just like so happy and they just like feel like normal kids and they forget about all their It's a camp for kids who have cancer and their siblings because oftentimes siblings are like
Starting point is 00:32:32 the forgotten about child in these situations and don't get the same attention to go to a day camping on Long Island completely for free. And even once they're, you know, have beaten their cancer are allowed to go for until they go to college, whatever they do. And a lot of the counselors were former campers. It's just like a really great family. So I'm just grateful for to them for like opening up the camp to us and being able to to show what they do it was like in a in a summer filled with so much drama to be able to have that like wholesome moment where we could like give back and show that was really awesome you seemed really happy in that episode yeah I think uh things like that just put everything into perspective and just like what we were talking about
Starting point is 00:33:24 like it makes you realize everything that you do have and how much harder it could be. So, you know, I've tried to volunteer whenever I can as much as I can. Like I've been able to go to a hospital on tour and sing with the kids and talk to the kids and I'm setting up more of those. So yeah, I think like it's amazing that I'm in a place where me showing up and like giving my time is like mean something to other people. Like how cool is that? Super cool. Like, even though these kids might not watch Summerhouse, like, I don't know, for some reason, like, they think I'm cool.
Starting point is 00:34:03 No, but see, that's like the, like, I think that will bring you more joy and happiness than any other stuff that we've discussed is being able to, like, build a platform and then have other people be excited about that platform and inspired by it. Yeah. And they feel like they're part of something. You know what I mean? Like, a pile of money is nice, but like that, what you're doing will bring you way more joy than that. You opened up on the show. You did a five-year cancer-free check.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Did you decide to open up about that so you could inspire people to also go get a check? Or were you just living your life and there was cameras there? It just so happened that it was my five-year check-up was over that summer. I've always been pretty open about having cancer. So it wasn't something I was going to hide from my story on the show. I thought it was going to be like a beautiful moment of like show up. You know, I'd been through four of them with no issue. So there was no reason I thought that year five I would have an issue.
Starting point is 00:35:02 And then I remember two weeks before the doctor's appointment, I like felt something change on my left nut on my remaining testicle. And I was like, oh fuck, did I just like set myself up to get cancer again on national television? and I started really freaking out. And then I went to the doctor's appointment. And he was like, yeah, so we did the scan. Like, this is what I see. Like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:35:32 And he was like, oh, you have two things going on. And I was like, oh, my God. Like, I'm totally fucked. And then they were just like two normal things. One was like a calcium buildup. Jesus Christ. One was like a blood vessel. They were like, you're fine.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Putting you through the mental. Yeah. Oh, my God. I think too West was there for you the entire time that you did that so that's like another dynamic that I think is important to the whole yeah he's been a great friend to me like I know his family I know that they're all great people so it's just like a hard thing to grapple with I don't want to get eaten alive here on this because I'm again like give me a like I'm a novice people but do these shows in a way the environments
Starting point is 00:36:20 create these kind of situations and even maybe hope for these situations. So for example, like, Lauren and I would not be good on these because like we would, we would just, we would, at this point, we would not like do, we would, we would, we have three kids under six. Like, we just wouldn't bring the craziness that we would have made when we're in our 20s. Yeah. But I imagine like, you know, the producers there, the show, the audience, they're, they want things, maybe not at this extreme, but they want things like this to happen. Is there a pressure to kind of almost perform and to have no no okay i would say that that's a great thing that i didn't know what to expect when i joined a reality tv show i don't watch a lot of reality tv i was like is this all
Starting point is 00:36:59 real and you show up and summer house especially like they don't say hey show up at three o'clock at this restaurant like you're going to film a scene with this person like we're just in this house for 48 hours so you really let your guard down you forget the cameras are there at night for sure you literally You literally forget. I mean, like, we go out, get drunk, come back, and we're, like, eating snacks with our friends. You're like. You forget. Yeah, like, you don't, I mean, sometimes you forget, forget, but like.
Starting point is 00:37:28 But you don't turn around and there's like the giant, the camera with the guy standing there. At 10 o'clock, they stop. Kyle's like, like, farting on the camera. He must forget. Yeah. Like Kyle let this huge fart rip on the camera one. You're either too drunk or you're just like, they're just never going to use this. Like, you're just out with your friends.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Like, you're having a night out. you let your guard down. Anyways, all I want to say is that the producers were just as upset as the public and as our friend group was when this all happened. They, you know, we had a really beautiful thing. You'll see, like, leaving the house the last weekend. We'd never been closer. And I think the thing about our show that people love is, like, we are genuine friends.
Starting point is 00:38:14 It's not just like housewives bickering the whole. time. It's based off of real friendships. So nobody wants to see the friend group fractured like this. So I would say like to this extreme, no, the network's not like ratings are up. Like the ratings were 50% higher than they ever had been before this whole thing happened. So the show was like doing as great as it had ever done. So that's why it was like, I said to Wes, I was like, dude, if you're, if this is happening, please lock it the fuck up. Like why? You don't need to do this. You don't need to do this. I don't care what anyone says. If somebody in the quote unquote
Starting point is 00:38:50 Viz, that network is tickled to death about what's going on. The ratings are through the fucking roof. Let's say this. The network is different than the producers kind of, right? It's like a different. If I put the quote unquote executive hat on, those guys are sitting there on that table looking their
Starting point is 00:39:07 chops. They're like, this is great TV. People are tuned in. Listen, I don't know. The health and wellness podcast is diving into the reality. This is Are we health and wellness? Well, not today. We're not.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Let's get into that. I was just going to ask you about health and wellness because I see your aura ring. Hell yeah. Tell us about your health. It's dead. What's Jesse's health and wellness tips? So I work out every day. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Lift? I eat clean. I lift probably four or five days a week. Okay. I walk a lot. And every morning I make like this big hydration drink of like colostrum. and electrolytes and a whole bunch of stuff. Yeah, I try to be healthy.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Obviously, I'm, like, on the road right now on tour, so, like, I'll get some chicken tenders if that's the only thing around. And, like, I drink alcohol sparingly, but right now I'm not drinking. And, yeah, I do some weird shit on tour. I have, like, this nebulizer that, like, hydrates my vocal cords. I have to be on vocal rest. I'm talking a lot right now because I'm here with you guys.
Starting point is 00:40:14 All right. What a treat. All right. But typically I'm like... But let's get the whole audience to come and see you on tour. Let's get them out. So what can we expect? And I didn't get an invite last night.
Starting point is 00:40:25 That's so fucked up of me. I would have totally been like front row. Well, this is our first time meeting. So you guys are invited to everything I do for the rest of time. Love it. We're in. I can't wait to be on this 15 person trip that we're going to go on. The 15 per...
Starting point is 00:40:45 Oh, you're ready to be on the trip. Wait, yeah, the trip is really fun. You'd be a good trip, mate. Yeah. I could tell right away. What, I told you. Did I not tell, I said on the call, I said, you. Let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:40:57 You're, you are, he's very, you're very likable. These trips are, you know, they're casted. You gotta cast a trip well. Yeah. You gotta be real thoughtful about, like, you're gonna go away with someone. No, I know. The rock star show of Bravo. He knows how to cast a trip, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:41:10 But you know, like, sometimes I see people do trips with their friends. And if it's not casted well, like it could be. I am. He's aware. After this tour, I've got so much going on that I'm going to Turks and Kekos. I've never been. I might just go by myself. You know, I will tell you, once you have kids, you are never going to be left alone, ever.
Starting point is 00:41:30 Like, they will find you. So I think taking a trip by yourself is like, let it rip. This episode is brought to you by Zizal. I am so allergic to cats. The worst. I was speaking of this thing. And she called me, she was like, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:48:10 are you so sad? Do you miss all? I'm like, yeah, it's terrible. I was eating oysters and caviar. I was sitting there. I was laying there in my underpants with a fire gun. I was like, this is terrible. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Like, it was, I was thinking. I was like, this is probably the first time in six years that I've just been like by myself chilling. Weird. Sounds nice. It was amazing. You know what, though, having kids, I'm sure. sure as like being on reality television.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Oh? Similar. What? How so? Because there's a camera in your face, but it's a kid in your face. Yeah, but the thing is, yeah, you have to be on. Yeah. Setting a good example.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Yes. Yeah, but you're not having the world watch and judge you. Yes, that's true. So where do we go from here? Are you going back next summer? They don't confirm things until like very last minute, but there's going to be a show. this summer, I would imagine. And if there's a show, I think I'll be on it. We need you on it. Yeah, it's been such a great thing for my life. I've learned a lot about myself. I've made such
Starting point is 00:49:13 great friends. It's allowed me to do music. I mean, the fact that I can hang out with my friends in the Hamptons over the summer and then get to go on tour and make music the rest of the year is like such a fun thing. Which song should we download first? Guess I'll start having a moment. Yeah. It's all over TikTok. Everybody's singing it. I mean, at my show last night, everybody sings the words. Yeah. Like, what a cool thing. It's so cool. And people come up to me in the meet and greet and they're like, you inspired me to leave my job and do what I'm passionate about. And I get so many messages like that, like people connecting with the lyrics. You have a great voice, man. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of, you got it like,
Starting point is 00:49:55 your voice is good. I wish I could sing. I can't sing a fucking note. I could sing. I could be a backup. Yeah, well, I wish I had you. So I call people up on stage for my latest song, Overrated. You should also check that out. It's about falling in love with your best friend. It sounds like, could have been about you guys. And the singer dropped out last minute. And so I posted on my Instagram. I was like, can anybody come sing? And this amazing girl showed up and she crushed it. She was so nervous. I felt bad. But she did a good job. But she did a good job. Yeah. Who's the best friend that you filmed? It could have been me. I do a really mean Disney like rendition I don't say who I write my songs about Okay but it is about someone Yeah
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yeah I didn't just make it up I write songs about like my real life experiences So I want to do a TikTok with you Tell me if you like this idea Love it Okay so I look into the camera And I say
Starting point is 00:50:52 You guys My friend Jesse is gonna sing you a song You better Be nice You better be nice. Michael doesn't get this because Michael's on TikTok. Yeah, it's a good trend.
Starting point is 00:51:03 And then you come and you could do whatever you want to do. Yeah, great. I think that you're fabulous. I think it's so smart that you're diversifying with your tour and everything that you've got going on. Thank you. You have to stay on summer house as a same.
Starting point is 00:51:16 You have to go back on now because I have this weird thing where I like, I am in and out of these shows. No, now you're going to be in. Once I meet someone, now I'm like in. So now I'm going to be like, when's it on? And I'm going to tune into every fucking episode, right? Yeah, well, there's a good season going on right now. You can start. Because now I feel personally, like I feel personally vested.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Almost like when you have your favorite sports team, now I'm going to be like, you know, I'm in. How can everyone go check out where you're touring? Where can they find you? Where can they say hi? If they're single, maybe they can drop in a DM. My Instagram's. What do those DMs look like for you? Jesse Sal's. Okay. My tour is jessiesolomonmusic.com. You can buy tickets.
Starting point is 00:51:56 And yeah, I'm performing in Dallas. Dallas tonight. I mean, the shows are like, a lot of them are sold out. Nice. We just sold out Bowery Ballroom. It's like 550 people and the show's not for like two and a half months. Yeah, it's life is good. I'm so appreciative of you guys having me. Who's in your DMs? Is there celebrities? I wouldn't say that like celebrities are just sliding into my DMs. A lot of hotties. There's just a lot of people. men, women, everybody's in there. All different kinds.
Starting point is 00:52:33 Yeah. Flattering. It's overwhelming. Or will you? I mean, yeah. If there's somebody that I'm interested in, I'll reply to a story. You reply to a story. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:44 But I try to get like an intro and I'm off the dating apps at this point. Yeah. I think that's good. It's like it's just too much. Yeah. Too much optionality. Like I need to focus on one person. That's that's the key.
Starting point is 00:52:57 He always talks about this on the show. show. He's like, when you have too many options, it's overwhelming. Well, no, listen, I mean, I only hear, well, actually, I hear about it now from some minute, but most of my guy friends, they're like, they get to the point, like what you're saying, they get burnt out. It's like, they can't focus and it becomes overwhelming and it becomes kind of messy and stressful. Yeah. It's like a full-time job. I don't think anyone's good with that much. I think like it's nice to feel like you have a few options, but I think that much optionality becomes really confused. Yeah, like I could go to a bar and there's like, you know, 50 girls there. Or you can go on
Starting point is 00:53:34 your phone and it's like unlimited. So it's, I got to cut off the dating apps and yeah, try to like talk to one person at a time. It's like a good place to start. Lala Kent said she drops in the DMs like with this emoji. I thought that was clever. Well, she's a gorgeous woman. Put it out there. She's single. I'm just saying like being a guy sliding into girls DMs, if you go in with an emoji. You can't do that. Yeah, I can't do that. Fisting emoji? What the fuck is that? It's like, people are going to have to watch YouTube. It's like a, I don't. If a guy is sending this emoji, yeah, that's just like, it's okay. But I would do that. If I was single, that's, I feel like I would go like this. Like, like, chef's kiss. Oh, that's what it is. Yeah. Chef's kiss. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:21 Do you guys have any advice for me? Just like aside from dating and life and maybe. And maybe. like wellness, whatever. Well, I actually do have advice for you and I was going to give this to you off air, but I felt really called to tell you this. Okay. And I'll say it on air. I was going to tell you off. Starting point is 00:56:45 thoughtful don't get canceled it's more of like i think people underestimate being well liked and having a strong reputation and having integrity.
