Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to the skinny confidential, him and her.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Today we're discussing over-stimulation. I wanted to do a bite-y confidential. size episode on feeling overstimulated because I think with all of the lights and the phone and the computer and the television and the news and the content, a lot of us are feeling overstimulated. And I wanted to tell you guys how I self-regulate when I feel overstimulated. I really try to use the overstimulation as information. So if I'm feeling like that, there's a good chance that I am taking on too much and I need to take a step back and self-regulate. So I use it as like a guide of where I need to go. Okay. So that's like the first thing that I do. So, okay, let's say I feel
Starting point is 00:01:09 stimulated on a Friday. I'll come home. I will put my phone in the laundry room and turn it off immediately. That's the first step. I don't want to look at my phone. I don't want to deal with it. It goes on airplane mode and gets turned off. I don't like to walk into my home in front of my kids on my phone. I feel like it's dismissive. And we can all remember a time where you've been out to dinner with someone and they pick up their phone and they're talking to you as they're scrolling and they're not looking you in the eyes and it doesn't feel good. And so I don't want to do that when it comes to my children. I want to walk in fully present. So that's the first step is like the phone is away. Got to have that. The second step is I turn on really like low frequency music.
Starting point is 00:01:57 I am a huge Stan Gets fan. If you know, you know, he is very vintage. But the music just puts me in a mood that is the right mood when I'm feeling like too much is going on. It's a little bit of like Basanova jazz. It's really light. It's like background music. It's not too much. The last thing that I want to do is like listen to some crazy loud rock and roll rap music when I'm already feeling overstimulated. So the music goes on, I'll light a candle, I'll be really present for my kids in that moment. And then after I put my kids to bed, I have like a whole setup. So we don't turn on the light upstairs in our house. There's no lights in my kids' room that get turned on at night. There's no lights in our room. There's not even really lights in the hallway. I got these like little night lights that I plug into the walls that
Starting point is 00:02:52 are red light. And I put them all over my house. And I also do salt rock night lights in our our bathrooms. So everyone is essentially going back to the olden days. Like with someone carrying a candle, I want to create that really warm feel with red light. I don't want any blue light in my ether. There's no news in our house. There's no really shiny like LED lights. I don't want that. I want to really convey a vibe of relaxation. And there is nothing better than showering with a salt rock night light on. and a Louise Hay meditation or a little bit of Stan Gets. It's so relaxing and it immediately like solves so much of that overstimulated feeling. Then I will go and I will grab this thing I call a warmie. My kids and I love it. It is a heated neck pillow. I have a lavender one.
Starting point is 00:03:47 And I have it in this like heater situation and I'll grab that and I'll put one on my neck and I'll give one to my daughter and son. They love them. And we'll all get in bed with our warmies. I'm a very flexible as a parent when it comes to my kids in bed. I kind of just do whatever everyone's feeling. So if they want to sleep with me, I'm like the more the merrier. If they want to go to their room, sometimes they do. I'll like let them make the decision. When it comes to my kids in the bed, it's really relaxing for not only them but for myself. I read this thing about how when you're feeling overwhelmed or emotional, your kids will come lay on you. It's not because they want to lay on you for their own nervous system. It's because they want to help you regulate. I don't want to like look to them to regulate. But if they want to sleep in my bed and they feel that they're happy there, I will let it rip. Whatever they're feeling. I'm flexible with it. So that's a way to just all wind down. We'll read like a kid's book. We're reading pig the pug. We're going through every single pig the pug. There's a lot of them. And we have a booklight that is red light. So again, we're reading hard books, which I think is really helpful when you're going to.
Starting point is 00:04:56 you're feeling like you're taking on too much or you're overstimulated. And then I'll have a huge glass of thorn magnesium water. I have my mouth tape on the side. That really helps me relax into nasal breathing, which I think is really helpful if you're breathing really deeply. And you're feeling like you have too much stimulation to just sit and breathe with that warm lavender pillow and your mouth tape is amazing. I'll put my mouth tape on after I drink my magnesium water and I'll grab usually my Kindle. Right now I'm reading a lot of Truman Capote. I'm on this kick right now. But I also have the hard copy book next to my bed. So here's a tip. The hard copy I use when I've just been staring at screens for too long. I do not want to stare at screens my whole life, which is why my
Starting point is 00:05:48 phone goes in the laundry room. I don't want to look at it. I don't want it in the bedroom. I don't want it on the charger. I think it's bad for your brain to charge your phone next to it when you're sleeping. I don't think it's healthy. No one can convince me otherwise. I don't think waking up in the morning and grabbing your phone off the charger that's been charging all night is healthy. I think it's a lot of EMF. It's not conductive for me to grab my phone with the goals that I have. I don't think it supports my goals to wake up and grab the phone. So the phone is nowhere near me. And I actually think a big reason of why we feel so overstimulated is because of the phone. So that's like it's the foundational step, I think, if you're feeling like you can't self-regulate. I am proud to say that my hair is not shedding
Starting point is 00:06:36 anymore. And it is a very specific methodical formula that I have done to stop it from shedding. So I do so much scout massage. I just got this scout massager that is, it's like mechanical. I think that's the right word, but it massages my scalp for me. And then I do guise on my scalp. I eat so much organ meat. And I don't wash my hair a ton and I use a copper shampoo. And the other thing that I do is I supplement. And you guys know the supplement that I take. It's the same one that I've been taking forever. It is Nutriful. Nutriful is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand. and it's the number one hair growth supplement brand personally used by dermatologist. So they've really thought of everything.
Starting point is 00:07:24 It's clinically tested to measure improvements in hair growth, quality, and strength. I've noticed less shedding. I can't even tell you what a big difference that it makes. With Nutraful, it's not a one-size-fits-all approach. So it offers multiple formulas for men and women, and it's tailored to your different life stages. It really thinks of everything. With the times, you're playing the lute. Yeah, and it sounds pretty good, right? Discover is accepted at 99% of places that take credit cards nationwide. Based on the February 2025 Nilsen Report. Have you ever felt like something in your body was off, but you couldn't get a straight answer?
Starting point is 00:09:01 When lab results come back fine, but deep down, you know something still isn't. That loop of uncertainty is exhausting, and hers understands. As women, we're often told to listen to our bodies, but too often we're left without the information to actually understand them. Knowing what's really going on inside your body matters, especially when reassurance alone isn't enough. Hers is rethinking the outdated healthcare system to finally give women what they deserve. Head to Wayfair.com right now to shop all things home. That's W-A-Y-F-A-I-R-com.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Wayfair, every style, every home. So in the morning, what I'll do is if I'm feeling like I'm taking on too much, is I'll wake up 30 minutes before my kids, which for me is about 645 or 630. I'll wake up. I will go do red light and I'll meditate. And for me, meditation does not have to be fancy. It doesn't have to be crazy. It could just be sitting in silence getting some red light. It could be doing Joe Dispenza. It could be doing an activation by Mimi Bouchard. It could be doing Melissa Wood Health. I just sort of like feel wherever I'm at. I've also been doing this Wayne Dyer meditation that you actually, you say, you go, you actually say, um, And that stimulates the vagus nerve, and I found that to be really helpful. I started, like, humming when I was pregnant, naturally when I was meditating randomly. And then Chervine from Symbiotica came on the show, and he's like, no, Lauren, this is a scientific thing.
Starting point is 00:12:27 It stimulates your vagus nerve and calms you down. So getting that meditation in the morning before my kids wake up, especially with the red light, is absolutely amazing if I'm feeling overwhelmed. So already after I've woken up and had a really good night's sleep, I should note that I get in bed no later than 9 o'clock. Like sometimes it's 8.15, if I'm being honest. I wake up and I just feel more refreshed. And then after that meditation, I just don't feel like there's so much going on. Waking up and looking at my phone would be a completely different result. Okay? I want to note that. If you are feeling overstimulated and the first thing you do is grab the phone, of course you feel like that. So the phone to me is not even an option until about 10 o'clock. The only thing I will use my phone for
Starting point is 00:13:14 is to put on a meditation or to listen to an uplifting lecture or a podcast. I don't want to touch my phone if it's not for one of those things. Don't even think about going in my text message in the morning. I can't even do that. Like that's just reacting to everyone's to do list. So I really try to create boundaries around that. And then what I'll do is I will wake up my kids, we'll start breakfast. You know, I'm doing all the things, lemon water, the beauty salt. I'm getting my protein, my coffee, all my little drinks. And if I have time, and usually I do, I will strap the baby in the stroller and go for a walk and get outside and get some sunlight and some movement. And I usually will listen to something inspiring, whatever that is. It could be a walking meditation or, like I said,
Starting point is 00:14:06 a podcast and I just breathe and appreciate the groundedness of Austin. There's a really like very grounding pure energy in the morning in Austin that really puts things in perspective and allows me to think and have space and clarity. And so all of these things that I just told you are stacking up for me to sort of re-regulate so I don't have to feel like there's too much going on. of course if I had like a perfect world and I had all the time in the world and sometimes I do have time. I would love to cold plunge sauna. I think that's a really great way to do almost like a reset on your system. And you don't have to have a cold punch.
Starting point is 00:14:51 You could just do a freezing cold shower. You could do contrast shower. The heat really helps you decompress. So if you're looking for a release, if you're feeling very hyped up, I feel like the heat is like it helps you like slow down and I always pair my heat and cold with hydration and minerals. So I'll do the skinny confidential beauty salt, which is the best salt, colostrum, and pearl powder on the market. It's amazing. I froth it up in water. I add a full lemon. Sometimes I add a hydrogen pill in there. And then I'll add some minerals. I like Keentan minerals.
Starting point is 00:15:29 And I just get all my minerals and my vitamins and make sure. that I'm really concentrating on supplementation. So you get the daily movement to drain the mental load. You get the supplements that are helping you with the energy and you have your boundaries around your phone. And then another thing that I do to like kick off the day is I'll just write everything down. So I'll write down what my top three priorities are for the day. And then I'll write down my to do list. And then I will write a memo of what I need to post on social. media. I will write out my calls for the day. I will write out my goals for the day. And I will make sure that that piece of paper is filled with only the most important priorities. I am not focused on this paper,
Starting point is 00:16:18 on the minutia. It's just the most important things to keep the ball rolling. It's like a memo to myself. Okay. So that's that's important. Martha Stewart taught me about the memo. Okay, she explained the memo. You've got to have a memo to yourself every single morning. And so this is a, like a brainstorm that I have where I can clear my thoughts and get clarity. And again, there's no phone involved. Quick break to talk about branch basics. Lauren and I in pretty much every interaction we have personally, professionally, at dinner, at lunch, anytime anyone has an ear to listen, we are talking about branch basics. And that is because it is so important to get rid of the toxic chemical cleaning supplies that bombard our systems, our bodies, our loved ones,
Starting point is 00:17:02 every single day. We're sitting in this toxic field, not realizing the havoc it's causing our system from hormone disruption to stressing our overall health. And here's the thing. This is completely avoidable with better solutions like Branch Basics. Branch Basics is made from plant and mineral-based ingredients, and Branch Basics is human safe, which makes it perfect for families, especially those with babies, kids, or pets, especially the ones that are crawling on the floor and close to it. Ever since Lauren and I had Allison, the founder of Branch Basics on this podcast years ago and made the switch, we have not looked back. What's a no-brainer for me is if you're going to be cleaning the house and there's a product that doesn't in a healthier, safer way, but also does the same job, why would you not
Starting point is 00:17:39 make the switch? It sounds small, but the products in your environment play a huge role in your overall well-being, especially if you're resetting routines, building healthier habits, or starting 2026 with more intention, which I hope is everyone. Their premium starter kit comes with one powerful concentrate that makes everything, laundry, detergent, bathroom cleaner, glass cleaner, even pet wash and vegetable rinses, all in one place and cost-effective. And here's the good news. Branch Basics is now available everywhere you shop at Target, Target.com, Amazon and BranchBasics.com. Tossing the toxins has never been more convenient. If you want to try the premium starter kit today and get 15% off, head to BranchBasics.com and use our code Skinny 15 for 15% off your first
Starting point is 00:18:15 order. Again, that's Skinny 15 for 15% off your starter kit at BranchBasics.com. I have been on a chicken kick. I've switched my beef for a minute to chicken. I am tightening up for a very specific photo shoot. And I'm just doing it. white meat right now. So I'm doing a little shift. I love my beef bowl. Don't get me wrong. But for the next month, I'm just doing white meat. And I am making the best bowl. I start with Taylor Farms Mediterranean Crunch. They have the best chopped salad kits. I have told you guys about this. It is so easy to get your salad together. And they really come in so many flavors. So maybe you're like a sweet kale person. Maybe you like Caesar. Maybe you even like avocado ranch. They have thought of everything.
Starting point is 00:18:59 So I'll do Mediterranean Crutch Taylor Farms chopped salad first. No leaving half a cabbage in your fridge. I'll add the chicken on top. I'll add some hot sauce and I'll do a little bit of lemon on top and I'll make it a bowl. Sometimes I add chopped tomatoes, chopped white onion. I just mix it up. It's ready to go. It's a bunch of protein with a delicious mix of salad. Taylor Farms has 28 chopped kits. They have 10 salad kits, six organic chop kits and nine mini chop tauts. kits. So what I do is I just bring it to the office. I have it in the fridge. It's really truly something for every appetite and occasion. You can mix it up. You could make a hamburger bowl. You could do like a fiesta bowl, whatever your heart desires. If I can do it, you can too. Grab a Taylor Farms chopped salad kit and get your salad together. Let me tell you about how I rebrand my children's food and drinks. I do cookie water for electrolyte water. I do candy water for amino water and I do the best cookie granola by Purely Elizabeth for a little healthy treat. Purely Elizabeth granola. Okay, salty, sweet, crunchy clusters, delicious taste, but the best part, everything is amazing
Starting point is 00:20:13 when it comes to the ingredients. Organic oats, ancient grains, and superfood seeds. They have chia, kinawa, delicious, crunchy clusters with a unique salty sweet taste. My kids go crazy for this. They think it's the ultimate treat. Everything is baked with coconut oil and it's simply sweetened with a coconut sugar, which is so great. And all purely Elizabeth products are gluten-free, vegan, certified USDA organic and non-GMO project verified. I personally, though, like the original ancient grain granola. I add it to Greek yogurt and then I'll add raw honey on top and a little bit of bee pollen and I eat that after a workout. It's delicious. I like this granola for my because there's no artificial flavors and everything is certified gluten-free. It's such a great
Starting point is 00:21:02 snack. Try the cookie granola and definitely get the organic ancient grain granola. It is so good. Like I just want to shake the bag right now. You guys will be hungry. Visit purelyelizabeth.com and use code skinny at checkout for 20% off to taste the obsession yourself. That's purelyelizabeth.com Code Skinny. Introducing the skinny confidential ice roller, reimagined. Think sleeker lines, a softer pink, a custom buttery dust bag, and a silver roller, not pink anymore, that is ice colds. I wanted to do a jege on the iconic ice roller. I wanted to update it. This ice roller for me has always been more than just a tool. It's about helping us depuff and sculpt and calm the skin in a way that feels intentional. And I wanted the ice roller to feel evolved. It's changed. You've changed. So yes,
Starting point is 00:22:02 the new gorgeous, stunning, beautiful ice roller is still going to do the same things. It reduces puffiness and redness in your face. I used it this morning before I put on my makeup. It definitely helps with the under eye bags. Of course, it helps boost circulation and radiance. I just feel like it really helps stimulate blood flow and gives me that tighter, more radiant skin. And then it also is known to give you a smoother, tighter-looking skin. So what I like to do is I like to combine facial massage with cold therapy. And this really helps give you a really nice foundation before you even apply your skincare. This ice roller for me is a full circle moment. I think that a lot of you bought the ice roller five, six years ago when we launched it. And now I am launching.
Starting point is 00:22:48 something that feels more in alignment with where you're at. It's so beautiful, you guys. Like, it's just softer and more effortless in every way. And I really put my own touches on every single little step from the packaging to the colors to how it feels to even the roller. It's all been elevated just for you. So the ritual, the Lauren ritual, is you do cold therapy to help fight inflammation. You roll it. You glad it. You're glad it. across your face. I put it on my jawline, my neck, I roll it down. Your skin is just going to appear smoother and tighter before you go in for the kill with the skincare and the makeup. Don't skip the cold therapy. The new ice roller is an upgrade designed to meet the standards of today,
Starting point is 00:23:35 and I hope you guys love it as much as I do. This is the beauty tool that started at all. Redesigned to evolve with you. I'm showing it on YouTube too if you're on YouTube, if you're seeing me visually. Get it why it's hot at shop skinny confidential.com. That's shop skinny confidential.com. Then I do a workout. You guys know this. I do a workout at the same time every single day. It's non-negotiable, weightlifting, Pilates, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:24:02 I always make time for a workout. I do not fuck around when it comes to my workout. My workout is a place for me to show up for myself, build self-confidence, and hit my goals. I have a goal of where I want to be. by next Thanksgiving and I think you have to show up. It's reps, right? So I put in the reps of my workout. And then after that workout, then I will reach for my phone. And what I will do is I will do a full brain dump to chat GPT. And a lot of you guys have messaged me about how I do that brain dump.
Starting point is 00:24:41 So I'll say, hey, chat, today's a little crazy. I want you to help me. make this the best day ever with a Lauren touch. So it's going to give me 15 minutes extra because I don't want to run late. It's going to organize it the way I want it. I like it when it uses emojis. I like it when it's on one lock screen. I'll tell chat all of this. I'll be like put it on a lock screen. How do I make this day make sense? And I will just tell it everything I'm doing. So I'll be like, I have five calls. These are the times. These are what they're with. I need agendas for each. I am shooting a podcast today. I need time to organize my outfit, take a shower. I also need driving time. I want to make sure that I'm being the most efficient during glam. So what can I be doing? What needs to get done? What are the priorities? And then after podcast, I have to film ABC, D, EFG, and then I have a meeting with my team for product. I want to make sure that I'm home for my kids around a certain time. And I want to be able to pick my daughter up. from school, how can I make this all happen? I also would love to get in a sauna tonight. Where does it make
Starting point is 00:25:53 the most sense? The kids go to bed at this time. And I literally will talk to it like it's a unicorn assistant. And I actually call it a unicorn assistant. I saw this through Chloe Digital. She wrote out about her unicorn assistant on chat. And that's exactly what my chat is. It's just like an assistant that comes in with a magic wand, a fairy assistant, and makes sure that I I'm hitting everything that needs to be hit. I'll even be like, hey, I want to write for an hour today. Where do I put that? Now, you could have used this for anything.
Starting point is 00:26:23 It doesn't matter if you are a CEO or you are an intern or your stay-at-home mom. You could use chat as your unicorn assistant. And that really helps me self-regulate, too, to have everything organized on one lock screen. And I'll screenshot that and I will check it throughout the day. There's obviously like the sensory regulation that you want to do through beauty rituals. for me, it's ice rolling, it's skincare rituals, it's facial massage, it's warm showers, it's cold showers, minerals, hydration, salt, electrolytes, all these little things they really do add up. But at the end of the day, if I'm not getting enough sleep, it's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:27:04 I have to sleep and I like to be in bed, like I said at 8.30. So I don't want a lot of chaos at all, especially when I'm feeling overstimulated. These are the things that I do that help me really go back and like recalibrate myself. I think it's important to recognize when you are experiencing any kind of noise. Like when you feel like, oh my God, there's so much noise going on. You know, I can't even hear myself think. I think you need to use that as a guide and a compass to sort of put you back on the right track. And ultimately, before we go, I do want to say this.
Starting point is 00:27:43 I don't reinvent my routines every single week. Okay. I have the same rituals, the same tools, the same anchors, the same supplements, the same cold, hot therapy, the same meditations, the same routine, the same, you know, Kindle that I read off of, the same lights set up, the same chimes, the same music. I'm very clear in knowing what I like because what I've realized is repetition soothes the nervous system. And that is what I do. So if you like these solo bite size episodes, let me know. It's always fun to hop on the mic and just riff. With that, I will see you next time.
