Welcome to The Skinny Confidential, him and her.
Aha!
Back in action with another solo episode. Today, we are going to talk about
how I have lost 50 pounds postpartum. I'm still having a journey with this whole experience.
I'm not quite where I want to be yet, but I'm on my way. And I've picked up a lot
of tricks of the trade that I want to share in this episode that I think will help a lot of
postpartum mothers or just anyone who just wants to take it to the next level with their fitness,
their food, their nutrition. And I'm also going to give you some little hacks that I do on a
daily basis that make a big difference. I am here with the one and only Katie, my assistant, my
executive assistant who runs my life. She's back. What's up? She dressed up today for video.
We did our makeup today. So yeah, feeling better than the last two times when you sprang it on
me and I looked like a troll the last couple episodes that I've done solo I just said hey
you're coming on the podcast today you have a curled lash a gloss lip yeah we're ready to go
like YouTube good for fucking you so basically what we did is we collected a bunch of questions katie's gonna ask them and we're
just gonna talk through it and i think this is fun to do with katie specifically because
she runs my life and she is one that really witnesses everything that's gone on she's seen
the whole excursion it's been like i said a journey and I think she's just a great person to bounce
ideas and thoughts off of yeah I know again with the hard-hitting questions you guys always come
through with some good ones about like everything postpartum regarding workouts protein intake
and this 50 pound weight loss which is insane I I can't even believe that you had that on you. I had it on me. Having a baby is some rough shit. It is some rough shit. And I think that
the thing that no one talks about is that, yes, you're so grateful to have this beautiful baby,
but you simultaneously can also be having other feelings. I think that it's not okay to just say you can only be grateful. You
also can be stressed like me that with Saza, I gained 60 pounds. With Towns, I feel like I gained
like 45 or 50. I don't even know the exact. I stopped weighing myself. But of course, when I
had both my babies, I was so excited. But also, it's a lot of pressure. There's a lot of pressure to bounce back.
There's a lot of pressure to look a certain way. And I also think with Zaza, for me, it was jarring
because I didn't read any books about it. I didn't look at any Pinterest board. I didn't really even
talk to a lot of mothers about postpartum. I just wanted to lead with my intuition and see how I felt.
And so I remember coming home from the hospital with Zaza and my stomach still looked like I was
eight months pregnant. And it's a mindfuck. So in this episode, we're going to talk about,
one, how my recovery with Towns was completely different and what I did and just dive into it.
So Katie, I'll let you kick it off. Yes. Okay. So let's start with when you came home from the hospital. Everything I'm sure is like
shaky and loose, you know, and I guess how often were you able to exercise if at all,
right off the bat? When I came home from the hospital, I, this time, tried not to
even focus on anything but just enjoying the baby because my first postpartum experience
was so gnarly and jarring. I had such bad postpartum depression and anxiety that this
one, I tried to just really put my focus on the baby and not on sort of how I looked.
That being said, I still wanted a plan. I'm a person that likes to have a strategy,
but I also, and you know this, like to protect my peace. So it's a balance.
And the first thing that I did to even attempt to feel back to my normal self is I did belly binding.
And I had someone come to my house. Her company is called Belly Binding, B-E-L-L-I. And she gave me the most beautiful, relaxing massage with chimes and oils. And it was lymphatic drainage. And then she wrapped my stomach in a binding. And I think
that I really liked that because like you said, everything is loose. Like your stomach feels so
loose that there's some kind of security in having everything wrapped. And also just for
lymphatic purposes, I think it's a great way that's soft sort of to feel like you're
doing something, but not something too harsh. There's a lot of cultures. You guys can look
into it if you Google the skinny confidential belly binding that do this and they swear by it.
What I've noticed is it just sort of helps everything move back into place.
You do have to sleep in it. I also breastfed in it. I just thought that
was a good way that was soft and feminine to sort of start the process of doing anything.
Another thing that I always do after any kind of surgery or anything that is harsh on my body is
walk. So I don't even, I'm not attempting any kind of workout at this
point. The doctor says you can't work out for six weeks. And also you don't want to work out for six
weeks because if you do, you can get dialysis something. It's where the stomach splits.
That sounds terrible.
Right. So you just want to listen to the doctor. And my doctor told me,
wait six weeks. So for me, it was just walking and being gentle with myself, eating a lot of warming foods and just taking it really easy
and being with the baby. And I suggest for six weeks, not putting pressure on yourself. There's
really nothing you can do besides be present with the baby. If you want a belly bind, go for it and
walk. Another great thing that I loved postpartum like six weeks after to just get my lymphatic
system to wake up is the Qi machine. You put your feet in it and it like shakes your feet.
Oh yeah.
It's so good. And it automatically relaxes your nervous system. It's such a beautiful way to stimulate blood flow and
circulation without being too harsh. So as you can see, all these things, I try not to overwhelm
myself. It was just soft stuff. I also went in the red light, walked outside, got morning sunlight,
drank a lot of water, and chilled. Then at six weeks, and you know how I'm intense.
I'm as soft as I took it. Then at six weeks, literally the six weeks mark.
Right.
It was, and you know this because my calendar, it was right back to the gym.
Yes. That was weights, correct?
That was weights. So I lifted weights my whole entire pregnancy with Towns. I did not do that with Zaza. With Zaza, I did Pilates. And looking back on both the pregnancies, I did not gain as much
weight. And I also had an easier recovery mentally and physically with Towns.
Which, and that's definitely correlated.
I mean, it's got to be.
It has to be.
I also upped my protein so much with Towns. There's things that I did. I didn't have any postpartum depression or anxiety with
towns. Now, I don't. Is that because it's a boy and a girl? I don't know. But I will say the entire
pregnancy and you see my calendar, I was lifting weights with towns. So at six weeks, I went right
back to lifting weights. But we didn't go back to like heavy lifting. We went back to like, again, soft lifting.
So not going super hard, obviously not doing a lot of ab work, just implementing weights four
days a week. And then I tried to take my steps from 5K to 6 to 7 to 8 to 10. I try to aim for 10, but sometimes life gets in the
way and I could just do 5. You just try to do your best. Another thing that I started doing at six
weeks was getting in cold showers. So cold plunging, cryotherapy, just getting cold. A lot of people would say maybe this is too soon.
For me, it worked. I even would jump in the ocean. We were in San Diego and I would go jump in the
ocean and do a lot of grounding on the beach. And I thought getting cold after six weeks just
really tightened my skin to my body. I did a lot of beach walks. And then I did some Melissa Wood
health online and worked out with Kim Kelly, who has an amazing app. Here's the thing.
You don't have to have a trainer. You don't have to do this crazy meal plan. A lot of these things
are free. You can go outside every single morning and walk. You can go on YouTube and find some weight workouts that
are free. So I just don't think that there's any excuse not to move your body. And a lot of new
mothers will say, well, I want to be with my baby. And I understand that. But I think to show up
fully for me, for my kids, I have to have an hour a day. There's this study that just came out that says that kids that see their mother
exercising most likely will end up exercising when they're older. So for me, it's about being
a good role model for my kids and being mentally stable. With Saza, I was feeling not stable. I was
having so much anxiety and feeling so depressed. And I don't feel like I
was able to show up for her as I wanted to. So I think when you do find that workout that kicks
your serotonin and dopamine into gear, it's really important. And what I've found with lifting weights
and why I can't shut the fuck up about it is because I will be having the worst day ever. And I will go in and in 30 minutes, I will even out.
I can feel it.
I can feel my hormones evening out.
I can feel the dopamine.
I just feel better.
And I don't know if it's like, I mean, I'm sure it's something scientific with testosterone,
whatever it is.
It's definitely hormonal.
Yeah.
I just, if you can do that by finding a gym, it doesn't have to be fancy where you can
sort of like lift heavier and heavier as you go on and you can build muscle and burn fat.
You're going to feel great.
A hundred percent.
So incorporating exercise, you said you're giving yourself an hour a day.
Was that in your experience typically the mornings and the evenings or did it just really depend? I gave myself more than that. What I did is on my calendar,
I have an hour walk in the morning. And what I did is I would put my kids in the stroller and go.
Michael comes with me usually, which is really fun because we're able to connect.
I put my phone away and then I have this app called Pacer that counts my steps. I actually just got a whoop.
Whoop. A whoop. And so I'm also tracking my heart rate to make sure that I'm in like certain zones.
But I didn't do this at first. Okay. I was just walking 10K steps a day in the morning.
I'd walk for an hour. And then I would add another hour of exercise. And I did this every single day starting at the six-week point.
And I think for anyone who says they don't have time, like I said, this is therapy.
This is being efficient.
This is being a good role model.
This is life-changing for mental and physical.
It's important for sure.
I mean, it doesn't have to be an hour. Listen,
if you only have 30 minutes, that's fine. It's about making time for yourself and being
thoughtful about it and showing up for yourself day after day. I look at it like brushing my
teeth now. Working out for me is just like, that's what I do. It doesn't seem like a chore anymore.
And I think when you habit stack it like that and you integrate it into your calendar and you have someone who holds you accountable, whether that's a trainer or a
friend or your partner, whatever that is, it makes a huge difference, in my opinion, in your sleep,
in your attitude, in your business dealings, in your success. And that's why another reason I
just can't stop with weightlifting because it's really
changed my life. And I've had such an easier recovery. Right. And I know where you're going
to take this next. So I'm going to jump ahead. And obviously, everyone knows when you're working
out and you're trying to lose weight or you're trying to build muscle, even you have to support
that with a diet of some kind, not even diet in the sense of like restricting anything, but
some type of healthy meal, healthy routine with food and water, of course, to backfill
all of your hard work. What was your go-to for food? My life is so chaotic and so crazy
in the best way that I need someone to tell me where to stand.
It's kind of like that really successful CEO that wears the same shirt every day because
he just wants it's like decision overload. He just wants to make a decision.
For me, I just want someone to tell me where to stand when it comes to eating.
But I would caveat that with I want to eat what I want.
Of course. Two. So it's this balance to be sustainable. Right. I want to eat food I like, but I want to be told where to stand.
So I was in this like kind of weird place where it's like I want to eat what I like,
but I also want to be told what to do. But at the same time, I also like routine.
And for me, like I'll eat the same time I also like routine and for me like
I'll eat the same fucking thing every single day that's so impressive if I'm if I'm not on vacation
it's a different story we're talking about at home so I called my friend Eric at the flexible
diet coach he tells you to tell him all the foods you love so So you could be like, I love chips and salsa. I love steak. I love
margaritas, whatever you like. I said, I love sourdough. I love non-negotiables, just things
I love. Also, like it could be really healthy, too. I love blueberries, whatever it is. I gave
him a list of like 20 things I love. And then he put together three plans for me where he counted my macros so I know exactly how to measure the food.
I have never felt hungry. In fact, I'm not telling people to feel hungry when they're
losing weight. I don't think that you should feel hungry losing weight. I have lost 50 pounds.
There's never been a day that I have gone to bed feeling hungry.
When we moved to Texas, I got so serious about everything in my house. I went on like a rampage.
I wanted everything to be as clean and non-toxic as possible. I just felt like it was a moment to
shift our entire energy. And one of the things that I did
was I switched my dog food. So I wanted them to have real, fresh, healthy dog food.
And I was looking for a brand that was wet. And I wanted something that had a whole meat
and vegetables. And I wanted something that just had a lot of nutritional value. So enter the farmer's
dog, real food. Feed your dog the farmer's dog. This is amazing. It's gently cooked in human
grade kitchens, and this preserves the nutritional value, which is amazing. I love how they personalize
it. So everything is personalized. So what you do is you just tell them about your dog

One thing that I have implemented into my routine every single night without fail is magnesium.
I take magnesium every single night.
I don't miss a night. And there is an incredible one by JS Health Vitamins. We had her on the
podcast and she basically just like raved about how she uses the highest quality ingredients that
are backed by science and research. And I asked her off air, I said, which one should I start with? And she said,
definitely the magnesium. Everything is made in Australia. It's formulated by Jessica,
who's an expert nutritionist. And basically every formula she designs is for all your needs.
The magnesium though is like superior. First of all, it contains three forms of bioavailable
magnesium and she designed it to support muscle relaxation and recovery,
energy production, and nervous system function. So what I notice after magnesium is that when
it's time for me to go to sleep, I can go to sleep way easier. And I think it's because it's
just like relaxing my nervous system. If you're looking for something else to grab on her site,
the collagen is awesome. This is fun to mix in your coffee. This is great for skin hydration,
skin firmness, and even like elasticity. So those are the two that I would recommend. If you want to know more about her and her process, definitely listen to that episode.
It's so informative. I learned so much about my digestion and my skin and my nails and what I
need to support all of those things. But don't miss out on the magnesium. Go to jshealthvitamins.com slash skinny and use code skinny for 20% off your order or first

Well, I think we all know starvation is not the move.
I think that's like, we can probably just say that across the board,
that that's not the way to lose weight healthily.
And listen, like years ago, there's been days where I would fast
and like, of course, yeah, it would always backfire. I would always eat more than I wanted
to eat. Like I'm always full every single day. So I think working with Eric has been so amazing.
What I do and I'll tell you exactly what I eat is I eat the same thing every single day when I'm
at home. You know what you see. I know what it is. Yeah. But when I'm on vacation, I just went
on vacation for a week. I ate bread. I ate pasta. I ate croissants. I ate pizza. But now I eat a
shitload of protein. So instead of eating carbs all day, I'm waking up eating three poached
eggs. And so when I have the croissant, I don't want the whole thing. Right. So that's what's
proteins done for me is it's crowded out so many carbs before I would go on vacation and just eat
carbs and eat a lot of carbs. Oh yeah. Like in one sitting compared to a lot of protein. But if you
eat protein when you're on vacation, you still eat the carbs. You just don't eat as many. Right. So what I've done with Eric is I've
fallen in love with protein and I really have. I was eating fucking deer for breakfast. No,
she's like cube it up and like just eat it right off the pan. I was eating liver like I love meat
now and I never loved protein like this until two years ago. And I think it's because
with the weightlifting and the more I eat protein, the more I crave it. And also what amino acids in
meat has done for my hair and my nails and my skin. I just, you can't like, I'm like, I'm in
love with this. So now my body wants meat. It's the weirdest thing ever. Anyways, I think my theory is like the more you eat protein, the more your body wants it. I don't know.
Well, yeah, I think it's especially you're giving your body what it needs because you're exerting
yourself exercising. You need those things to replenish what you've exerted. So, I mean,
it all makes sense. Yeah, I think maybe with Pilates, it was like Pilates is amazing,
but I wasn't mixing it with the
weightlifting.
So I wasn't I didn't maybe have the same appetite for protein.
Right.
You're definitely not burning as many calories.
Yeah.
I know that for a fact.
Yeah.
So what I eat all the time and this is what we've worked out with him is I will wake up.
I will have all my hydration things like lemon water,
supplements, electrolytes, just kind of like all my wellness-y stuff. And then I will have a coffee
with raw full-fat milk. I used to do almond, but I'm on a raw full fat milk kick with ice. And then
I will have eggs with it now. Before I used to just have the coffee, but now I'll eat eggs with
the coffee because I feel like my blood sugar doesn't drop if I have a protein with it. So I'll have two sunny side up
eggs and then two egg whites with microgreens on top and hot sauce. It's perfect. It gets the job
done. If I'm in a huge rush and I have a lot of stuff going on, which usually I don't because
Katie knows my mornings are so important, I'll do like a hard boiled egg. If I'm out, I'll do poached eggs.
So it's like I just I mix it up. I don't like my eggs being cooked in oil and I don't like them
being cooked in butter because I want to save my butter for later, which we'll get to. I know what so after i do that i will go work out i'll train for an hour and then i'll come home
and when i'm hungry i will do a big bowl of ground beef which you said was weird why is that weird
no it's not weird it was weird when it was on the floor at the office in a Tupperware in the conference room,
just like this lonely bowl full of brown meat. I was like, is that your beef on the ground?
I will get my beef from a very specific place. I like it from force of nature if I'm buying it
online or I go to the farmer's market every single Sunday and I get delicious beef and I sex it up. I'll put kimchi
on it for my gut. I'll put spicy carrots from the farmer's market. I chop jalapenos on top of it,
micro greens. I do like Frank's hot sauce. I even do like sometimes a mustard sauce or salsa verde.
Like I just make it like fun. Interesting to eat. Yeah.
And I swear to God, after every workout, it's all I want is a big bowl of beef. If you told me like
you can have a big bowl of pasta, my body wants the beef. Like it knows it gets the beef. Yeah.
And then I am full from that. And when I mean full, I am.
It's a lot of beef.
I've seen it.
It's like it's like at least two cups of beef.
It's about five ounces to be specific.
OK, I was going to say, I don't know if you had exactly what the measurement is,
but it's a big ass bowl of beef.
It's a big bowl of beef.
It is.
And then after that, I'm not hungry for a while. And then I will have a chroma matcha.
It's good. Two scoops,
10 grams of protein. It is so satisfying. First of all, I'm getting protein. I'm getting a little
kick of caffeine. And if I'm having a long day like today, I'll do an espresso shot with a
cinnamon stick because cinnamon balances your blood sugar. Delicious. If it's a Saturday or Sunday and I'm being lazy, I don't
have the espresso shot. But the matcha is more protein. It gives me a kick. It's full of all
these antioxidants. I also like peak tea. You can't go wrong with peak tea, matcha or chroma.
They're both delicious, but the chroma has the
protein right which again extra like cherry on top after the big ass bowl of beef yeah it's it's like
two hours or three hours from the bowl of beef it's a good like snack later so it's a midday
thing to cut a craving if you're getting one yeah and then i will have, I just like have this all the time. I'll either have tuna fish
with chopped, this is so detailed, chopped cornichons, like the little pickles. Yeah,
those are good. And spicy mustard, a little bit of avocado mayo, just a little bit because I want my butter for later, my fat,
and chili matcha? Maca. No, chili matcha. Maca powder? Nope. Chili matcha is what it's called.
It's like a chili paste. That and tuna fish, one can. Or I will order a burger and take the bun off. Right. Which I always copy you whenever we've eaten together.
I get the same thing.
It is good.
Nothing's better than a burger.
You chop it up with jalapeno.
You wrap it in lettuce.
So good.
You get raw red onion.
You do tomato.
You do mustard.
Everything.
It hits the spot.
Yes.
It's delicious.
And then, which is so fun, I have my piece of sourdough
because I have to have, I've had a piece of sourdough every single day during this weight
loss period. And I'll do a tablespoon of Vital Farms butter. And it's such a treat at the end
of the day. Like I've done my workout. I've walked my 10K steps. I've eaten so much protein
that having that piece of toast, it just really is the cherry on top of the day.
And Zaza and I call it butter toast. We have it together in bed. Michael Bostick has a
fucking aneurysm. He can't stand toast in bed. Crumbs everywhere. That kind of gives me the
heebie-jeebies thing about it too.
Don't worry.
Slim and Boone pick it up.
Yes, they will.
Vacuum cleaners.
So Zaza and I crunch so loud in bed at like 7.30.
We eat our toast.
And I'll usually have a Chroma Cranberry Hydration Electrolyte Drink,
which is my favorite.
I have it every single day.
You can use code skinny if you want.
I would like
go buy the matcha and the cranberry hydration. It's so good. The best part of it is when I am
winding down in bed, I have a magnesium powdered water I have that's really good. And I have two
bars of hue chocolate and that's on the plant. I'm sorry. I feel like I'm getting.
That's a lot. I was going to say, do you know the number,
the gram amount of protein that you try to hit every day? He has it down for me. You guys,
I want to say it's like. It's got to be high, like 140-ish. I don't know. It's high. Yeah.
I want to say it's between 120 and 140. Yeah. At the end of the day, I go to bed. I'm full. I'm done. I feel like I got a treat. I also got a carb.
And you also have to remember, I am in a weight loss phase right now. I'm losing weight. I gained
a lot of weight. I'm losing it. And I also have goals for myself that I want to hit.
And so I have no problem having routine around my food. And it's also so easy. Everyone in the house
knows what I'm eating. It's easy. What's the word I'm looking for? It's robotic.
Right.
Now, when I go on vacation, and I go on vacation, and I go to LA, and I go to New York for work all
the time, I am not adhering to these strict guidelines. So I never feel deprived.
Exactly. And you're not going to ball out on, you know, animal style fries and like
a large pizza by yourself. Or I'll be so like, you've seen me so hung over one day and I'll be
like, I need In-N-Out. And I'm not like, I don't feel bad about it ever. No, because like 90% of
your diet is you're getting what you need. That 10% is like out the window.
And also what's so great about Eric too is you can add greens to anything.
So like if I want to have like a salad with my beef, that's fine.
If I want to add a bunch of like micro greens and arugula to my eggs, that's fine.
With my burger, if I want to wrap it in a huge piece of butter lettuce,
like that kind of doesn't count the greens. So if I want to have greens. And then
another thing that I have almost every day is a big cup of bone broth.
That's good. That's super satiating.
It's so satiating. And I think, listen, this is what works for me. I'm going to continue to do
this. If you're someone who doesn't like routine and doesn't like
the same thing every single day, Eric also does three different plans. You have three different
plans. I just like to use the same plan over and over. I mean, that's incredible. You can do that.
I'm way too psycho with my food to eat the same thing over and over. But well, you also are
someone who loves to cook in the kitchen. so i could understand that and also if you gained
50 pounds tomorrow oh i would be on a strict diet i'd eat a bowl of beef breakfast lunch and dinner
this is where i'm at yes i'm still like i'm still i'm probably like 12 pounds away from where i want
to be also i should say that the sourdough that i eat is made by Katie. She's a sourdough expert. Go to her Instagram
at hangry Hobson. You guys, she makes sourdough from scratch. Now, if you can't get hangry
Hobson's fucking raisin cinnamon sourdough or fresh rosemary sourdough, it has like the imprint
of the flower on it. I would recommend Google the Skinny Confidential sourdough bread.
And there's my favorite bread that you can buy online.
It's called Bread Seriously.
It is good.
And it's gluten-free.
It's gluten-free.
It just doesn't even taste any different.
Truthfully, it's so good.
Well, your bread is like insane.
In fact, I forgot to ask you to make me some for San Diego.
I know.
We need to.
I'll ship you some. Can you ship me some? I can try. Can you actually? We can figure that Diego. I know. We need to. I'll ship you some.
Can you ship me some?
I can try.
Can you actually?
We can figure that out.
I've never tried that.
So we can figure it out.
Okay.
But yeah, so I'm a creature of habit.
My life is so chaotic.
I need routines.
I need systems.
I need to be told where to stand.
And this is what works for me.
And I'm sorry for like literally dissecting every single second of what I'm eating.
Down to the
cornishin. Those are so good. But this has worked really well for me. And like I said, I haven't had
a postpartum depression or anxiety this time. And I think the release of dopamine from the
weights mixed with the upped levels of protein have made such a big difference.
And I haven't felt really stressed. I noticed with lifting weights
too, my skin is tighter to my body. When I was losing weight with Zaza because I had to lose 60
pounds, the skin wasn't as taunt. I think that we all have this image of bulkiness that people think that weights do. And what I've
found is it's really hard to build muscle. We talked about this on a podcast earlier with
Shannon. It's really hard to build muscle. It's not easy. So I think that people's perception of
this bodybuilder situation is not actually what is reality. No, you would have to eat like 80 bowls
of beef to get to that bodybuilder-esque look. I mean, that's no joke. Yeah. That's a lifestyle.
I would say if someone wants to start, I would start lifting three to four times a week.
I would wake up and take a walk. I try to take a walk right after I
make the bed because getting that sunlight is great for your hormones. I take a walk with my
son in his stroller and I just walk and walk and walk. You can return calls. You can return text
messages. It's a nice way to open your morning, in my opinion. I try to look at my day as a play.
And the opening act... It's a drama.
The opening act after I scrape my tongue and make the bed and do all those little things is like,
I want to get outside. I want to get sunlight on my eyes, my son's eyes. Michael and Zaza sometimes
come too. It's just getting outside and getting that hit of daily sunlight.
And then you're walking and getting your steps in. It doesn't have to be so complex.
And then ways to up protein is I would just say just start adding protein to every single meal.
You'll start to notice that instead of eating two cups of rice, you'll only want one.
It's weird. Yeah. If you're mindful of it, it's definitely going to pop up more in your day
where you're like, oh, I could have more chicken instead of, yeah, like you said, more rice.
I was looking for this very specific baby blue slain bag. It has like a long strap with a little gold buckle. I could not find it
anywhere. I finally found it, of course, on eBay. But the reason I personally love eBay and shop on
eBay is because you will not get a fake. Never get faked over again. It's so annoying when you
buy something and you realize later that it's fake. And with eBay,
they have this authenticity guarantee that protects buyers from fakes.
So what I did is I went on eBay and I just searched vintage Celine bags in baby blue,
and I found my purse. I'm so excited. I got it. They have the best brands. They have Louis Vuitton,
Gucci, Saint Laurent, Dior, Prada, Fendi. I mean, all the things. I'm it. They have the best brands. They have like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Saint Laurent,
Dior, Prada, Fendi. I mean, all the things. I'm a big fan of Celine. They have all different kinds
of Celine bags on there. And the best ever is that it's not fake. It's real. With eBay Authenticity
Guarantee, the service covers items across sneakers, watches, handbags, jewelry, and streetwear.
So you can shop a bunch of different fashion categories.
Any item with the blue authenticity guarantee checkmark is guaranteed to be the real deal.
So it's sent to an authentication team who personally inspects the items and then checks
it against the listing and authenticates it. Ensure that your next purchase is real with the
eBay authenticity guarantee. Everyone deserves real. Visit ebay.com for terms.
That's ebay.com.
You know what screams nostalgia for me? I mean, Pillsbury. I showed Zaza all the old vintage
Pillsbury Doughboy ads. I'm just obsessed with how it
makes you feel warm inside. And you know what else makes you feel warm inside? Pillsbury's
crescents. Okay. So they're a fill, roll, and bake. This is perfect for picky eaters.
So you can basically fill it with anything. Like you could make pepperoni pizza crescent rolls. You could do a
chicken bacon ranch crescent roll. They have ham and cheese. I like to have fun with it because
my stepmom is big on filling things with berries, and she mixes lemon with it. So I tried making
sort of like a lemon crepey situation in the Pillsbury Crescent. Zaza loved it. These are so amazing for picky eaters,
and you can hide stuff in it too. It tastes absolutely incredible, but most of all,
it's giving nostalgia, which we all love. You can find new simple recipes on their site.
You can add it to your weeknight dinner rotation, and you can just put it on your
Rolodex for kid-pleasing dinner recipes. It doesn't take all night.
It's super quick.
You can fill these crescent rolls with anything.
You can find Pillsbury in the dairy aisle.
Dinner prep in 30 minutes or less.
It's efficient.
It's amazing.
It's nostalgic.

I mean, how do you get your protein? What do you do?
I eat a lot of meat too. I mean, my husband hunts, so we have deer meat always on hand.
Bring some of that over.
I know, I know. We have a lot.
I'm going to need some of that deer.
And I've always craved red meat. I've never even ever considered. I'll eat it like almost raw,
even like a steak. Like I'm obsessed with red meat. Chicken will sometimes, you know, love hate.
Eggs are love hate, but red meat is always something that I I'm obsessed with red meat. Chicken will sometimes love hate. Eggs are love
hate. But red meat is always something that I've been obsessed with. And again, like if you look
at just a regular like eight ounce steak, I mean, that's a lot of protein and it's not that much
steak. No, it's so easy. And also like people are like, ooh, liver. You only have to eat like an
ounce of liver once a week to reap the benefits. I ate an ounce of liver last
week. I was bouncing off the wall. It gives you so much energy. That organ meat, like sure,
it's not fun to like choke it down, but the benefits that it gives you, it is good for your
hair, your skin, your nails, your energy, your vitality, your immune system. I just mixed some
up in Towns' ground beef and he ate it. I think that
if you can sneak it in, great. And listen, if you don't eat meat, go do a vegan plan that works for
you. I'm just sharing what has worked for me. There's plenty of protein options for vegans
and vegetarians. And another thing that I do sometimes if I've had an extra hard day of weights, and I did this yesterday in front of you,
I do one fourth cup of oats. I do a heaping scoop of ritual protein, which has 20 grams of protein
in it. I do wild blueberries. I cook it into like a paste. And then on top of it, I'll put
almond milk and cinnamon. And that right there, it's not a ton of carbs,
but it's that protein too. It feels like dessert even also.
It felt like dessert. And I lifted so, so heavy. It was like a heavy day yesterday for me.
And that oatmeal gave me like an oomph. And I'll probably do that two days a week.
But like I said, when I travel, I bring my supplements.
It's like it's a suitcase.
I have my own. I'll do my tea in the morning. I'll do all the things and I'll have my protein, but I do definitely indulge in alcohol and in carbs. At home, I really don't drink unless I'm
going out to dinner or lunch.
Or you have guests over or if I'm out of town. But yeah, it's far and free between.
Yeah, I really don't drink at home. And that's also different because in LA,
we would open a bottle of wine. I don't do that anymore. What I've done with this house is I don't
associate this house with alcohol. Does that make sense? I think a lot of people when they come home they're they're
associating their home with like red wine oh i'm gonna open a bottle of red wine it's like end of
the day it's been a long day it's nice to like cuddle up with a not to do that yeah it's like
convenient to have something in your hand it's convenient to have a little buzz too after a hard
day but and i get it like in la we would like i said open
a bottle of red wine or make margaritas and with this house i was like i don't want to associate
this house with alcohol yeah it's not out and around and like displayed anywhere it's put away
and it's it's behind a door yeah it's not easy to grab that door doesn't get opened very often no
in my old house we had like everything stocked with Peroni beers. We had like Corona lights.
We had it was like very much like a fun place to come over.
And now it's like I don't really let alcohol enter.
It's in my house, but it's not in front of me, if that makes sense.
Sure.
And I'm sure that's helped, too, with like this whole journey that you're on.
Like, obviously, we know alcohol slows things down and turns to sugar and all
those things. So good to avoid that anyway at a period in your life like this. But I will say
when I do drink for some reason. Let it rip. No, no. Like I will be like I will like be like so
I'll get buzzed so quickly. Oh yeah. Your tolerance is like non-existent. Yeah. It didn't
used to be like that. So that's interesting.
And when I do drink, I also am, and you guys already know this, someone who is thoughtful
about what I drink.
So if I'm having champagne, I'll do a La Piscine and put tons of ice in it.
So I drink it slower.
If I'm having a margarita, I'll do a half from a salt and do like just lemon and lime
and a little bit of
Cointreau and tequila.
If I'm,
I'm very,
I'm not just like,
Oh,
like let's get like lit cosmopolitans.
And like,
I'm still,
I always try to be purposeful about anything that I'm eating the best I can.
Another example is if I go to a restaurant,
I'll order a half order of pasta and a protein as opposed to the full order.
Well, we all know portions are too big anyway, so that's a good move.
Yeah, just like there's little tweaks that you can make that make a huge difference.
Like if I get a Caesar salad, I'll say, can you only put half the croissants on it?
Right.
People are like, how do you ask the waiter to do this?
And I'm like, you just be gracious and nice and hello, be allergic.
No, I'm just kidding.
Yeah, I mean, that helps too.
Be gracious and nice and just ask politely and say please and thank you.
And it's never been a problem.
So those are good little like tricks, I guess, to kind of aid in like your goal.
But what else from a workout standpoint do you feel like is a trick? And
this is an example, like if you have a full day of calls and you're sitting on your butt, like
where someone would sit on their butt and work at a desk, like you go on a walk. What are some
other things that you do like that you would consider a little trick to get in like steps
or movement? I absolutely think if you have calls and you're complaining about being
overweight and you're not walking during those calls, get up, get up, go to go walk, go outside.
I mean, there's even like on TikTok, they have like these treadmill desks.
They're so cool. I turned mine into a desk. You've seen the like acrylic. I got this acrylic
thing on Amazon. I put is it treadmill or treadmill everyone gets treadmill treadmill I put it on I put it on my treadmill and it's a desk
literally I was I was working and doing zooms on this desk while I walked and I'm not saying like
you have to walk at like 3.4.0 all the time sometimes I walk walk at 2.0, like 1.5. It's better than sitting.
Anything is better than sitting. So for me, it's about finding those pockets in the day where you
can just incorporate movement. And I also think everyone knows I'm a huge fan of hot-cold therapy,
sauna, and cold plunge. I understand. I used to be a broke college student. I understand not having
access to that. There's no excuse why you can't take a freezing cold shower.
And before I had a sauna cold plunge when I lived in LA, I would take a three-minute
freezing cold shower every single day. And it's so easy. I'm sorry. People are like,
oh, it's cold. It's uncomfortable. But for me, it's one of the hardest things you're going to do all day. It's going to set your mental state up so you feel
like you can attack the day. It gives you energy. It tightens your skin. It's good for your pores.
I just don't see why you wouldn't do it unless, I don't know, you're allergic to cold. It's just so easy to just
do it freezing. I had this hack where I took Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic podcast.
It runs for three minutes and I turn on his three-minute podcast. So I feel like my brain
is like doing something else while I'm getting the cold shower in. And by the time the podcast
is over, it's exactly three minutes. Yeah, that's a good hack.
So that's easy to do. As far as sauna, there's so many places that you can go. I know there's
one in San Diego called Remedy Place. There's one here called Kuya. You can go and you can get a
membership in sauna, but you don't have to have access to that to lose weight. It's just a really
great thing for detoxing. Other tools that I've used to lose weight. It's just a really great thing for detoxing.
Other tools that I've used to lose weight, I've also done Aerosculpt. I talked about that.
I got my jawline Aerosculpted. Snatch. Yeah. But I didn't lose weight from that. No. I was
going to say that's not like a weight loss thing. It's not a weight loss. That was body contouring.
Let's be clear. I got on the scale.
I weighed the same before and after. It's not a weight loss tool, but I do think that's important to say to people. Well, it's good for like, you know, feeling like you've tightened up a little
bit and that things are. Yeah, definitely tighten things up. For sure. And again, you touched on
this a little bit, but what would you go back and do differently now that you are where you're at
now with Towns postpartum with Zaza?
I would do the whole thing differently.
Right. I mean, you would do everything you've been doing, I guess.
I mean, I was doing just Pilates with Zaza. I would have done Pilates. I love Pilates,
but I would have incorporated weights four times a week. I would have eaten more meat.
I did eat meat with her, but I didn't realize the importance of protein. I wasn't educated enough.
And I would definitely implement cold hot therapy after six weeks. I did belly bind with her, which was great. But I had a tough time. I mean, I had a tough time postpartum with Zaza. And I
have real empathy for people who are going through postpartum and have anxiety and depression.
I was having intrusive thoughts of knives falling out on the ground. It was just very...
I think people don't talk enough. It's very heavy when you've had a baby come out of you and you
have all these hormones and your partner doesn't understand because they're a man. It's just like a lot. And then you're breastfeeding. And it's almost like
too after your body's gone through so much, then you also are breastfeeding. It's just a lot going
on. You're like a machine. You feel like you're just being used and abused. Yeah. And I, like I
said, gained so much weight and I didn't even know where to
start with her. So I think that I would just change my plan of action, which is why I'm talking about
this right now. Because if this helps anyone, I feel like if you're postpartum or you're confused
at where to start, this is a lot of what I'm telling you is tools and tips that I've picked
up from the experts that I've had the opportunity to interview.
This is all stuff, sort of like data that I've collected from all these different people
of things that works. I've been able to talk to Andrew Huberman and Gabrielle Lyon and Dr. Shannon,
who we just had on, Paul Saladino, Sherveen from Symbiotica. Having these people on, when you have them on the podcast and
they all tell you things that work and when they all match up, you're like, huh.
Makes you think.
Yeah. You're your own researcher. So I feel like now I finally found for me what works for me,
which is why I'm finally comfortable to come out and really speak
on it I'm not a doctor I'm just telling you what's worked I'm still on the ride I'm definitely not
done well you look incredible and I know that like I'm not just saying that that's nice it's true I
mean to see like I still got some ways to go obviously where you started and where you are
now I know you've like worked your ass off and And it is I can't even imagine, obviously.
Well, maybe you can't imagine.
No, maybe not.
Whatever you do, you can take maternity leave, but do not stop making me sourdough bread.
Yeah.
OK, well, yeah.
Just don't ever stop making me sourdough bread.
I love doing that.
And it's fun.
Those are my tips.
Little hacks before I go.
I add herbs to everything. Katie,
help me with my herb garden. Out of control. I added to my water. I added to foods. I add
spices to everything. Spices are so underrated. A hundred percent. Yeah. If you can add chili
powder. No calories also. If you're going to have a piece of mango, add some chili powder and
lime. Just like little coffee, add cinnamon. So any way that you can just add spices or herbs.
I also drink a lot of water, but I also sex up my water. So like I'll do lemon and electrolytes in
the morning and then I'll do amino acids and creatine when I'm working out like any way that
you can just get it in, but make it quick. Even like, this is weird, but I add like
get off my acids minerals to my coffee. It's an acid kicking mineral. And so it takes the acidity
out of the coffee. Just like you just find little things that you can quickly grab that are
accessible and easy to make the process of toning up easier. But walk, walk, walk everywhere you can, get cold,
try lifting weights, eat protein, and let me know. Did I miss anything else?
No, that was everything.
And if all else fails, fuck, just wear black.
Yes, that's my signature. I highly recommend it.
Just wear black, man.
It helps. Yeah, no, this is great. I think this will help a lot of women,
a lot of even men, like anyone on a weight loss journey of any kind and not even weight loss,
just like getting back to where you feel like you were before or getting back to a place where you
feel really comfortable with your body and you feel good and you can move and you're not achy.
And, you know, I think this is super helpful And there's a lot of really good takeaways from this. I hope so. And any wellness practices that you can do, body work, lymphatic,
the chi machine, fucking facial massage, acupuncture, anything, any of those little
things that you can add in where you can, great. But at the end of the day, it is those simple
practices, lifting weights, walking protein
that really make a big difference, I think.
Katie, where can everyone find you and your sourdough?
At Hangry Hobson on Instagram and sometimes on Lauren's Instagram.
And also you're on the blog talking about how you helped me plant herbs and how you
make sourdough.
Yep.
Both of those are there. Good stuff.
I hope you guys love this episode. I am going to post a picture of right after I had towns
on my Instagram story so people can see a visual of the situation. Maybe I'll even post one after
Zaza. I don't think I've ever posted one. Maybe I will. And you guys can sort of see the
progression. I also have to shout out my trainer, Bodies by Brent, who has helped me in Austin,
and the Flexible Diet Coach on Instagram, who has helped me with food. And of course,
Kim Kelly in San Diego, Melissa Wood Health. Just some people that have been amazing during this whole past year.
And Mother Nature.
Mother Nature, grounding, energy, air, sunlight.
Okay.
All the good things.
All right.
Bye.
Bye. Thank you.
