Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a Dear Media production. She's a lifestyle blogger extraordinaire. Fantastic. And he's a serial entrepreneur. A very smart cookie. And now Lauren Everts and Michael Bostic are bringing you along for the ride. Get ready for some major realness. Welcome to The Skinny Confidential, him and her.
Starting point is 00:00:21 I mean, we launched during the pandemic, so we've only ever known like remote work, but we're spread out across the U.S. And that's why it is so important to build a really strong team who you can trust because, you know, we are all spread out. I think you guys probably see this all the time. When a celebrity comes on, they're talking about their brand and you know that they don't own every piece of the brand. Like they're the spokesperson or they came in at the Series A or they didn't sit there on like a whiteboard mapping out the product strategy. And if you don't do that, the customer is so savvy now. Like you see it on TikTok. They know everything.
Starting point is 00:01:00 It doesn't have the same momentum. Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the Him and Her Show. Or today, I should say the Him, Him, Him and Her Show. We have our friends Simon Huck and Phil Ripartella on the show. They have become fast friends. This is actually Simon's second appearance on the show. If you guys have not heard that first episode we did with him, go check it out. Many of you guys maybe remember the episode that we did talking all about Lemmy and his journey. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Simon, he's partnered with Kourtney Kardashian on their amazing brand, Lemmy, which we discuss all that. But today we have Simon and Phil on the show, and we are diving
Starting point is 00:01:33 deeper into all things investing, co-founding businesses, aligning on relationships, relationship maintenance. They also share tips on how to nourish a relationship when you have a partner who's the exact opposite of yourself, and how to build separate habits that are also symbiotic in the relationship. And this episode is just jam-packed with two people we're fortunate enough to call personal friends. With that, Simon and Phil, welcome to the Skinny Confidential Him and Her Show. This is the Skinny Confidential Him and Her. Okay. So I want to go back to, first of all, how you guys met. You said you fell in love. When you were falling in love, what were you doing both in businesses? At the time that we started dating, I had Command, which I still have. Command Entertainment Group,
Starting point is 00:02:15 which connects brands with celebrities. So I've had that business for 18 years. That's how long ago is this when you guys met? Eight years ago. Yeah. And I was at like JP Morgan working in bank. Like, yeah, I was at a bank. Were you on, were you filming any television at this time? Spin crowd was over
Starting point is 00:02:31 and I guess I was occasionally on the girl's show keeping up, but I certainly wasn't like a full time. And Phil, did you know, were you aware of him or have you,
Starting point is 00:02:39 had you seen him before? I had never seen him before, but I think a girlfriend of mine like recognized him. So So I had a little bit of context going into it, but never saw the spin crowd. Simon actually told me if I ever watched it, he would break up with me. It's so good. I loved it. No, I love you
Starting point is 00:02:53 for being kind, but it's actually not okay. Pull some clips and put it on your Instagram. People will freak out. What was wrong with it? Now I have to watch it. I love it. It was about our business expanding into LA and my partner at the time, this guy Jonathan, who now have to watch it. I love it. It was a better business expanding into L.A. and my partner at the time, this guy, Jonathan, who now goes by Food God. I think the dynamic just wasn't right for me.
Starting point is 00:03:10 It was there. I knew that like I was meant to be behind the camera. Like I never wanted to be. I never wanted to be the star. I wanted to be like star Jason. Like I wanted to work in entertainment, but I did not want to. I wanted to be involved in it, but I didn't want to be the person. I liked that show. I loved it. I love that you liked it. Thank you. I really watched the entire thing. You should watch it. Yeah, that's amazing. I have to binge it.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Yeah, you should watch it and do a commentary. So you're working in finance. Yep. You're doing command. Yes. And then how did these businesses that you guys have created, like how does it grow? Judy comes first. I had a ton of friends who were involved in these emergency situations, friends who lost homes in Southern California, friends in Florida who lost their home in storm surges. And I kept saying, what did you guys do to prepare? They had no preparation. Judy was born. That was the first time we ever met. Yeah, at Arena.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Yeah, we went there and you gave the judy presentation and i remember being blown away not because judy judy was great but thank you because the women and men that were at that presentation in la i thought to myself they are so fucked if something happens they were not they were not prepared for anything they had no idea what to do there was they they were shocked that any anything like this could even be possible. Yes. And I remember looking at Lauren and being like, listen,
Starting point is 00:04:26 all we have to do is be prepared like 5% of the way and we will shoot past. And you're fine. Yeah. Yeah. That's so funny.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Wasn't that the vibe there? That was the vibe. Yeah. That was like, it was all these bougie women who were like, oh my God, a flood.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Like it was insane. People were like, what's a flood? Yeah. Okay. So you launched Judy. Lauren, you were one of those women. So we launched Judy.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Around that time, Phil and his now co-founder, Brian, start discussing the idea of sniffs. Phil always had a love for fragrance. We have a mutual friend who started a fragrance brand based out of London. He was obsessed with the category. He kept researching it. He knew he wanted to do it.
Starting point is 00:05:03 And I think around that time, you started taking initial meetings with investors. Yeah, yeah. And even backing up a little bit, I left banking, worked at a few different startups just to get my feet wet, I guess. And then honestly, Simon inspired me. He started off with A-Human,
Starting point is 00:05:16 and I watched him go through that process, then into Judy. And I was like, wait, I've always wanted to do something like this too. And co-founder and I at the time, like you said, we were just kind of like ideating. And I was like, didn't want to ask Simon for too much help at the time until it was real. Because I did want to do it on my own.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And like, it was like my baby. And so I think that was kind of our deal. Like, obviously you helped me. But like, when I launched it was when I. Yeah, sniff is all you. When you kind of helped step in and like really, really helped. But like getting it off the ground, like it was me and Brian the whole way. And yeah, we just started taking meetings off of LinkedIn, really helped. But like getting it off the ground, like it was me and Brian the whole way. And yeah, we just started taking meetings
Starting point is 00:05:46 off of LinkedIn, I think. I was like, I was so outside of and so far removed from fragrance that I had to like really spend a whole year learning about it. And you guys must see this too. Like the things you did in the beginning to like set your career in the right motion.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Like you look back and you're like, I can't believe I did that. Like what? For me, like I picked up a tabloid magazine that had this woman named Lizzie Groopman in it. I was 20 years old. I had seven dollars and I called her office every single day for three weeks. And I was like, I will work for free. I will do anything you want. And that confidence to pick up that phone, I that just seems so crazy to do that now at that same level.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And I did it and it changed the trajectory of my life forever. It's why I'm here now. But do you feel like it's maybe because I think about this a lot where, because I agree with you, you do things when you're earlier in your career, when you're quote unquote, maybe not a somebody yet because nobody knows of you. But then once you reach a certain level, now you're maybe in your head like, oh, I'm this person. I can't do these things that I used to do. I think that it's a dicey position to be in because those are the things that got you where you are. And it's such a good point. And arguably, those are things you need to keep doing and never let your ego get in the way. I am on LinkedIn all the time looking for people to hire for the businesses. You guys know great businesses take great teams. I am the recruiter. I can hire any recruiter, but no one's as good as me.
Starting point is 00:07:12 I think that's one thing to me that's so attractive about you is, you know, Michael and I don't go to dinner all the time with podcast guests. You like you interview them and, you know, maybe you never see him again. Maybe you do. But with you, what I'm so attracted to, I think, is that you are in the glitz and the glam and you're surrounded by it and you deal with it, but you really don't have a huge ego. Thank you. And I think that it's so rare to find someone that's in your position that's so down to earth. You've really been able to maintain a humbleness about you. Thank you. That's very seductive in a way that like, it's nice to be around. It's refreshing.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Thank you. I mean, I also see the like, the glitz and the glamour is so temporary. I think my perspective on it is just so fleeting and not real. I think that I never get myself into it because I know it's just the way this world works. Yeah. It seems like you have a good boundary around it.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Being around all of the people and yourself included that have had success publicly. Yeah. And I've quote unquote reached fame. What mistakes do you see people making that maybe that fades or it doesn't work out? Because obviously you've been around a lot of people that have also been able to weather those storms and last for very long time i mean the most successful influencers celebrities are ones that don't play for their critics and i think that's why i would probably make an awful influencer or celebrity because i am so sensitive to feedback that if i got a message saying you sounded like this on this podcast i'd be like next time i won't
Starting point is 00:08:43 say you know i will immediately think okay should change my, and the most successful celebrities. Let's talk about the Kardashians. These are people who just always stay true to themselves year over year are consistent and are not playing to their critics. You can't create for your critics. Cause if you create for your critics, you're, you're creating for the people who don't like you. You got to create for the people who do like you. Right. Right. When you mentioned LinkedIn, that's interesting that you guys look for jobs there. I found this hack that's really working right now is where I'm going on TikTok. Okay. And I'm actually doing the job interview through TikTok, meaning I'm looking at their page and like stalking their page. And that's the interview. So when I actually interview them, I already know for creative
Starting point is 00:09:33 positions who I'm dealing with. Yeah. So like an example is like, say there's like a marketer, like say you find this really great marketer on TikTok. Yeah. You go through like their whole page and you see what they're about. By the time I've actually interviewed them, it's like I already interviewed them. It's genius. Like I did the same thing when we were looking for like a social media manager or a graphic designer. And it's the best way to like learn about someone. If someone's on LinkedIn and they're like, oh, my God, what if Simon's looking at me? What what is credentials for you to reach out? If they have relevant experience, we always say this, though, like your experience doesn't necessarily translate into like the perfect hire. We hire for attitude and we train for skill.
Starting point is 00:10:12 So the attitude of I'm going to get shit done, I'm going to learn and I'm eager to take on anything. That is the dream hire. I feel so blessed at Lemmy. We have just a SWAT team of gritty go-getters who are 27, 28 years old and just burning through things. They're so advanced. And a lot of it was learned. There's a weird thing going on. And maybe TikTok doesn't like this. But I think there's like a put, like, I don't know, my personal experience when I was coming up, it was like, whatever you need me to do, however you need me to do it, I'm doing. I still am like that. You have to like,
Starting point is 00:10:51 bring it, bring it in. Regardless of the pay. And I understand people want to be compensated and you need to be, but I think personally when I'm hiring and the first question is like, what's the PTO? What's the vacation? Like, what am i like immediately it's not that i'm i've almost kind of written the person off because it's not even about their skill or their worth it's more like i want someone that's enthusiastic and excited about doing whatever they need to do the other stuff i feel will take care of itself later but if that's your first thing is like voicing that you'll only do things right in a set period of time based on like i understand like I understand why people want that. Yes. But it's just like an attitude thing where I feel like when you're young and
Starting point is 00:11:29 you're youthful and before you have a lot of obligations, this is the time when it's like over deliver. Right. Right. Hundred percent. And people may have a problem with that. But I guess as an employer, what I'm saying is I kind of ignore or kind of it just goes like this for people that aren't like that. I just don't see them. We had an interview last week and the person, kind of their first question was like, is there a wellness stipend? And I just thought, it's fine that you want to know because maybe you have a wellness stipend at whatever startup you're at now. But is that the first question? No.
Starting point is 00:12:01 I'm sorry. No one wants to hear the real truth. No, that's not the first question. In fact, the question. No one wants to hear the real truth. No, that's not the first question. In fact, the question should be, what can I do? Right. That should be the question. Listen, listen, it's survival of the fittest. Yeah. If you're going to come into a business and stand out, it's like bring your A game. If I have to take out the trash or I have to unpack boxes or I have to do things I don't want to do, it's like it's to me, it's it's part of the gig. It's part of the gig. How do you guys find employees that are so amazing besides when I don't I mean past LinkedIn, like you said that
Starting point is 00:12:35 you've like sort of like trained a lot of these employees on the job. How do you find them? How do you put them in the right position? And then how do you create an environment where they can thrive? Once you kind of have that first interview, typically like the right position? And then how do you create an environment where they can thrive? Once you kind of have that first interview, typically like the attitude shines. And if they have the right attitude and the grit, it's really just a matter of time and patience and also giving them the opportunity to flourish, giving them the skills. I often feel like I, the more, the more time I give them and like the more opportunity, the more they... If I'm constantly micromanaging every single thing, they're going to need to make some mistakes. But once they make them, are they going to make that same mistake again? We have been incredibly lucky in our businesses.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I think we have just this dream team of people that scale businesses really, really quickly and understand what it takes. It's Friday It's what do I need to do? Do you share employees throughout your companies or are they separate companies? Totally separate. Totally separate. Yeah. Yeah. Completely different teams.
Starting point is 00:13:33 But shared learnings. Shared learnings. And is it like an office? I'm just curious, like for my own selfish self, is it like a big office or is it separate or is it in L.A.? Like what? How does that structure? So we actually don't even have an office.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I mean, we launched during the pandemic, so we've only ever known remote work, but we're spread out across the US. I think people in LA and Chicago. And that's why it is so important to build a really strong team who you can trust because we are all spread out. We don't see each other. I mean, we have Zooms and we're on Slack all day, but yeah, there just has to be that innate trust there too. Having direct access to the Kardashians and obviously you being partnered with Kourtney, what are some of the things you've learned from that family when it comes to scaling a business effectively? Partners are everything. Finding the best business partners and the
Starting point is 00:14:20 best teams. It's all about teams and partners. Well, I think that that's shown through you, Emma Greedy. It's all about teams and partners. Well, I think that that's shown through you, Emma Greedy. I mean, it's like you guys, it's very strong partners. Incredibly strong partners and also owning every single piece of your business. I think you guys probably see this all the time. When a celebrity comes on, they're talking about their brand and you know that they don't own every piece of the brand. Like they're the spokesperson or they came in at the series A or they didn't sit there on a whiteboard mapping out the product strategy. And if you don't do that, the customer is so savvy now. You see it on TikTok. They know everything. They feel it. The end consumer feels it. And it doesn't have the same momentum.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Hailey Bieber's done a good job of that. You can tell that she's been involved since the inception, since the idea. You can tell she has her hands in everything. To me, that's what it feels like. She is involved in every piece of the business and you can just feel it. There's no one that supports it more than Haley. Right. You can see how hard she's working. And it's been tremendously successful. Yeah. Melissa Wood's done a really good job of that. Courtney's done a really good job with Lemmy. I feel like she wanted to do this idea years ago.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Lemmy has been something that she has wanted to do for 10 years. And then she is such a perfectionist. She wanted to make sure that where she was in her life, she's happily married, that she could devote all the time to it. I mean, we four years ago sat in her living room and we had ordered like 60 different gummy vitamins and we went through every single product and we looked at the ingredients and so many of these ingredients were filled with just bad for you formulations, gelatin and corn syrup, all the, and it didn't make any sense to
Starting point is 00:16:03 us. Like how could you not create a clean formulation if you have the opportunity? And I think the, the challenge there, the opportunities that the consumers don't really know. Okay. I heard about this brand through Kristen Cavallari and then the founder came on our podcast. Her name is Lisa. It is called Chroma Wellness. And there's two products with Chroma that I take every single day. And one is their Beauty Matcha. It's so good with a little bit of raw milk. You could use regular milk or almond too. You froth it up and then you add some hot water on top with lots of ice. It is delicious. But the best part is, is there's 10 grams of protein in two scoops. So I get protein in my matcha, which is really amazing. And then they also have this product that I truly harass the founder for, and it is cranberry hydration elixir. And it's basically
Starting point is 00:16:59 like this like slightly spicy cranberry electrolytes. They both taste delicious. And like I said, I have been trying to tighten up post baby. And these are two products that have really helped me because of the protein and because the cranberry, it just gives me like something sweet at the end of the night. They also have a five day reset. It is absolutely the best reset on the market. It's so delicious. Everything is based on nourishment, not deprivation. You can enjoy all these superfood-rich foods and beverages. They even have like a cookie butter.
Starting point is 00:17:35 It's so good. Reserve your five-day reset now to take advantage of free shipping until the end of January. Chroma is also offering an exclusive 15% discount. For all him and her listeners only. Go to chromawellness.com and enter code skinny at checkout. All right. I had a lot of hair shedding after I had a baby and it was very annoying. And so I really started to take a very proactive approach to my hair. I wanted to figure out what the root cause was of why I was shedding.
Starting point is 00:18:06 So there's a couple of things that I did. The first thing is I got a silk pillowcase. You cannot go wrong with this. It's so good for your hair. I also got a scalp massager to stimulate hair growth. And I started microneedling my scalp or using like a high frequency wand to really start growing the hair. I also went brunette, which I think has helped so much. And then I obviously supplemented. And the supplement that I use to support my hair and to not have that shedding and hair thinning is Nutrafol. This is a supplement that I take every day. And I can tell you, I have noticed a huge difference. You should also know Nutrafol is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement with over 1 million people
Starting point is 00:18:49 seeing thicker, stronger, faster growing hair with less shedding. What I've noticed personally is my ponytail is much thicker and I don't have a lot of shedding anymore. So it's amazing. Take the first step to visibly thicker, healthier hair. For a limited time, Nutrafol is offering our listeners $10 off your first month subscription and free shipping. All you have to do is go to Nutrafol.com and enter promo code SKINNYHAIR. Find out why over 4,500 healthcare professionals and hairstylists recommend Nutrafol for healthier hair. That's Nutrafol.com spelled N-U-T-R-A-F-O-L.com promo code SKINNYHAIR. Nutrafol.com, promo code skinny hair. Quick break to talk about one of my favorite online resources, and that is NerdWallet.

Starting point is 00:20:54 I think consumers are getting smarter and smarter and smarter and smarter with ingredients. And people are going to be able to get away with less and less and less. Yeah, they are. They're, especially with TikTok, they're able to do a deep dive. You know, I think a lot of supplements can almost feel like window dressing where they put an ingredient in. But do they have the right clinical dosage of that ingredient? Like once you start to get into it, you do a little bit of research. I think the consumer has so many choices. There's a lot of incredible brands out there. Did you feel like that same with candles when you first entered this industry? Did you feel like you needed to
Starting point is 00:21:23 disrupt the category? Absolutely. I was actually going to to say that too, because, you know, I think you see a lot of these premium brands, right? And like who have candles that we used to burn in our house and they're toxic and they're really bad for you and they're really expensive too. So when we started Sniff, we were like, let's just create a product that is clean, non-toxic, super high quality. It still gives you that premium luxury experience, but at a fraction of the cost. And same with fragrance too. I think you saw a kind of clean beauty trickle down
Starting point is 00:21:52 with makeup and cosmetics, and then now it's kind of consumers are getting smarter, like you just said, and they care what's in their fragrance and their candles. They know now. What's burning in their house. It's funny because when I first had a baby, I was burning candles and she developed like a cough. And I was like, where is this coming from? And the cough was from
Starting point is 00:22:10 the candles in my house. This is like three years ago. I didn't I didn't know. Like, I think as a mother, you do all these things for like household non-toxic and like branch basics and like you're trying to like do all the clean eating and da da da da. And you forget that the candle like you're trying to like do all the clean eating and and you forget that the candle that you're burning yeah all day long all day long that everyone's breathing in you have to look into it yeah this is so weird but some some candles that i've turned on my air purifier machines like all of a sudden like go wild wow yeah yours doesn't happen that that is that should be an ad yeah that can we use that as an ad you should hello thank you lauren like someone's in their house and like they put the like toxic candle on and like all of a sudden the air purifier goes yeah yeah yeah that's actually
Starting point is 00:22:58 that should be the test you know and like then and then later you light sniff and it's like just humming yeah calm yeah let me chill yeah let me Yeah. Yeah. Let me chill. Yeah. Let me chill. And you take a let me chill and you're calm. Yeah. OK. Why decide to go in to vagina? So vaginal health is obviously like a huge part of women's health. And a lot of people when we talk about gummies, like gummies are the beginning of a lot of people in their wellness journey. Like a lot of people start in gummies before they go into capsules. So it was an obvious choice for Lemmy and for Courtney. She's always been interested in probiotics and prebiotics. So Lemmy Purr was something that she was really excited about. The name is something that Courtney came up with. So fun. Yeah. And I think also the ingredients were
Starting point is 00:23:46 something that allowed us to have like incredible clinical benefits around kind of balancing your your vaginal microbiome and the pH odor control taste sweetness, which are something that a lot of women think about and are already buying products for in the capsule format. Can you do one called Let Me Come and make them for guys? We really want to. We really, and we added pineapple in there. We really want to. I don't know how big the market size is, but Michael, what do you think? I think the market's pretty sizable. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, great. Yeah. You could be the model.
Starting point is 00:24:19 We could do a before and after taste. The clinical trials. Yeah. They say pineapple too for semen, right? Yes, they do. Pineapple is really good to ingest for odor control. For odor control, yes. We use a clinically studied probiotic
Starting point is 00:24:36 that gives us those claims, but yes, pineapple definitely sweetens the deal. Use that as an ad too. Let me come and all the guys can start it's a little on the nose though
Starting point is 00:24:47 no pun intended what would you call it I don't know but I don't let me finish yeah that's actually pretty good let me get one
Starting point is 00:25:00 I like let me finish that's pretty good run it up the chain and see what leadership makes what has been your most popular launch lemme per she flies lemme d bloat is a close second to per and then we just launched our capsule collection we have lemme curb which is glucose control and craving support i take it every day gets you off that goddamn sugar roller coaster and stops the cravings. The food noise for me,
Starting point is 00:25:25 gone by five o'clock. And Let Me Burn has been our kind of runaway. It's our fat burning capsule. And I should preface this because Courtney was nervous about launching this. She is all about loving kind of your body and every kind of form of your body. But belly fat is the devil. And this capsule was targeted specifically for visceral belly fat. And it uses incredible ingredients that activate AMPK in your body and encourages your body to burn fat instead of storing it. How involved are you in the conception of all these? Oh, involved in every detail. We have a medical board and we also use Courtney's personal doctors. So we're launching tomorrow, actually, let me mama, which is a prenatal vitamin.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Surprise, surprise. Cute that Courtney has been working on with her personal doctors for the last year. Very smart. Yeah. Let me mama. And I feel and, you know, because you have kids like as a woman, you are so hyper focused on what you put in your body around the time that you're having a baby and while pregnant. And so for Courtney, she just, it made so much sense. She's been taking prenatals for years. And every time she would take a prenatal, her doctors would say,
Starting point is 00:26:32 oh, you don't have enough of this in it or this in it. So she solved that problem. And what's your favorite launch that you've done, Phil? Oh, so hard. I mean, I think in fragrance, like Crème Couture, which is our croissant fragrance, has done so well. It's gone viral think in fragrance, like Crème Couture, which is our croissant fragrance, has done so well. It's gone viral. It literally smells like a croissant. It's kind of crazy how you can make a fragrance smell like croissant and want to wear it. And then Sweet Ash is another
Starting point is 00:26:53 fragrance of ours, which you also make into a candle. But it has this like really sweet, kind of like earthy, woody notes. There's like vanilla in there. There's tonka bean, fir balsam. It's delicious. Look at him with the fragrances. I know. I'm like vanilla in there. There's tonka bean, fir balsam. It's delicious. Look at him with the fragrances. I know. I'm like, hello? Yeah, I know. Yeah. It's like you are romantic about the fragrances. I mean, yeah. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:27:12 I have to smell this stuff all day long and like all things that we're not releasing too. So like we go and meet with our perfumers uptown and it's like just smell overload. We call them smell sessions. But yeah. It's very, very creative. It's very creative. It's a lot of fun. Okay. So your wedding, let's talk about your wedding in LA first, because I did know that you got married in LA because Melissa initiated it. Yeah. Talk about that. So we actually did two weddings. So the, I guess like the big wedding was the one in LA. We got married at one of our favorite hotels, the Bel Air hotel, which is so romantic and a place that we have been
Starting point is 00:27:45 lucky enough to spend a lot of time. And we work with Mindy Weiss, who is not only like an event planner, but she is a very close friend. And the kind of mandate going in was like, I wanted it to feel like a fancy person's living room. I wanted it to feel residential, which I know sounds insane, but I don't like the feeling of like a banquet hall. I wanted you to walk in and feel like you were in a cozy, chic living room with drapes. So we meanwhile, you're like just wanting to know about the wedding. And I'm talking about the decor. No, no, no. I love this shit. I love this shit. This is my favorite thing ever. OK, you're like, what about the love? So that was the mandate going in. And we wanted to really have something for our friends.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Like the wedding, and you guys know this, the wedding is really something you do for your friends and family. Yeah. You're so caught up in it all. But it was the most fun that we've ever had. I would spend the money again. I had no regrets. And I want to do it again in five years.
Starting point is 00:28:41 I wanted like no wedding or like a really low key wedding. And we had two, I felt like not low key weddings. But it was really amazing. Like both of them were incredible. LA was just like stunning. And Melissa initiated, is it initiated? Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Officiated. Officiated. No, no, no. Same thing. God damn it. I pronounce everything. Officiating a wedding's hard. No shit.
Starting point is 00:29:00 Oh, he's going to talk about his experience. Go for it. No, go for it. Go talk to him. Officiated? I have officiated. But I don't think I'll ever do it again. He's a little offended that you guys did not ask him to officiate. No, not to give you another compliment, but I feel like you would be a great officiant.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Oh my God. Simon, Simon. Can I get a compliment? Let me tell you something. I had fucking standing ovations going on. I see that. I killed it. No, because you're giving me Gary V vibes.
Starting point is 00:29:21 No, no, no. But I'll tell you what's hard about officiating a wedding. Because at first I went in there and I'm like, oh, I have to go and be funny and make it light. And then you realize this is someone's most important day. So you can't. And the family's there. And the grandma's there. It's not about you. And it's not about me. Which is weird. It's like a plot twist. No, but I think it's difficult because you have to make it special, but you also don't want it to be so stiff. And you want to engage everybody, not just the bride and groom or bride and groom or bride
Starting point is 00:29:45 and bride or groom and groom, whatever it is. And, and so like I started having a panic going into it. So it's, you know, it's, it's a lot of pressure. It's a lot of pressure. And we knew that we wanted a friend to do it. And Melissa was our first, really our only choice. And we asked her, we were sitting at like spring cafe. We asked her and she did not say yes right away. She just kind of froze. And she said, I'll get back to you it's a big decision no but i respected that she's like let me go home and think about it and like she's like i want to say yes but like it's a lot of work it's a lot she wanted to make sure it was perfect there was a receiving line for her after she like finished her speech there was a line of people being like you know she stole the show she was incredible
Starting point is 00:30:21 every morning this is such a hack okay so sometimes i don't get to do a meditation because my kids like wake up before me or like i don't have time so i take my son and put him in the stroller and i do her walking meditation and it's 16 minutes and it will change your whole day her voice is just like so calming oh Oh, yeah. And my son even likes it. He's like sitting there like rigor mortis bopping along in the store. It's Melissa's voice. She's the best. So like soothing
Starting point is 00:30:53 is the word I'm looking for. And it's like such a great way to start the day. So I can only imagine how she would be officiating. Yeah, like imagine her voice like right before you're about to walk down the aisle.
Starting point is 00:31:02 It was like immediately calmed me and I'm such a nervous person. I couldn't even sleep like for months leading up to the wedding. So just thinking about're about to walk down the aisle. It immediately calmed me. I'm such a nervous person. I couldn't even sleep for months leading up to the wedding. Just thinking about having to walk down the aisle and do my vows. She had essential oils for us. I had a crystal. I felt so protected by Melissa. It was so amazing.
Starting point is 00:31:18 I've known Melissa. I started as an intern. Melissa was a cocktail waitress at Marquis. We've known each other for 18 years. It was kind of this like full circle moment where she was able to do something for us that was so generous because it was
Starting point is 00:31:31 she was everyone was nervous. Like it's such a nerve wracking experience, but she crashed and the outfit. I mean, we were there for the outfit. No one's asked me to officiate their wedding. You would be phenomenal. Your voice is a little bit a little screechy. No, I could bring it down and you would bring would be phenomenal. Well, your voice is a little bit. You're going to get a lot of DMs now. My voice is a little screechy. A little screechy.
Starting point is 00:31:46 A little screechy. No. I could bring it down an octave. You would bring the levity. No, the comedy. Yeah, the comedy, Michael. A little screechy voice. You just don't want me to outshine you.
Starting point is 00:31:55 I don't know if you could. Michael's was a 10 out of 10, but so was Melissa's. Heineken 00 is an alcohol-free option to the original Heineken that you love. It has 100% taste but 0.0% alcohol. This means it's perfect for all the times where you want a beer or you would like a beer, but you can't have the alcohol. As you guys know, we have severely limited our alcohol consumption,
Starting point is 00:32:23 and having a beer and being able to drink one without having the alcohol effect is incredible. I will not lie. One of the things I miss most about cutting alcohol is the taste. I love a good cold beer and now I can enjoy one without having to worry about the alcohol consumption. The best part, though, is it actually tastes like a real Heineken, which is amazing. And I just love holding a bottle of beer.
Starting point is 00:32:44 And so to know that there's no alcohol in it, but I still get the taste and the feel of holding the bottle is amazing. So maybe you want to have a working lunch with afternoon presentations. Maybe you want to give up alcohol for dry January. Post-workout drinks, now you can have one. Now you can with Heineken Zero Zero. If you're somebody that's looking to cut alcohol or cut back on alcohol, but you still want to enjoy that fine Heineken beer taste, Heineken Zero Zero is the choice for you. It's absolutely incredible. And like we said, it's made with 0% alcohol, so you can enjoy that Heineken taste, but without the alcohol effect on your body.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Heineken Zero Zero, 100% taste, 0.0% alcohol, and only 69 calories. Now you can. Click the link in the show notes to buy now. Must be 21 plus to purchase. Please enjoy Heineken responsibly. Thrive Market, this is the best hack for mothers everywhere. Groceries, but good groceries, like organic groceries delivered straight to your door. The number one wellness trick that has changed my mornings and my life is dry brushing. It's
Starting point is 00:35:14 one of those things that you do and you just notice the benefits right away. So I decided to set out to launch the best, most superior, prettiest, most effective dry brush on the market. And voila, we have the Skinny Confidential Butter Brush. How I use this is so specific, it's annoying. What I do is I try to wake up before my kids and I do like a five minute situation. I'll use the dry brush on my body, like dry. So get naked and use it in the bathroom, brushing up under the heart and down over the heart. Then after I'm done dry brushing, I'll get in a freezing cold three-minute shower. It is like a shot of three espressos without the comedown. I cannot say enough good things. It is Michael's favorite tool. He's so addicted to it. He's always using it.
Starting point is 00:36:04 It's honestly incredible. And it's one of the only dry brushes on the market that doesn't collect mold. I've tried every single one on the planet, and most of my wooden dry brushes had all this mold on it. This one's silicone. It's lilac. It's pretty. It has a little thing to hang on a hook so you don't have to just put it in your shower
Starting point is 00:36:24 and let it collect all that water. I really tried to fix every single pain point when it came to dry brushing and I'm so proud of it. You can now shop it now at ShopSkinnyConfidential.com. That is ShopSkinnyConfidential.com. Use code BUTTER for 15% off. so what do you think besides creating not creating for your critics is the secret to having a lot of longevity not just celebrity but social media because there's a lot of people who are skyrocketing to fame right now like out of like out of nowhere or they're like getting a taste of like this huge push. Yeah. Like what happens afterwards and how do they sort of sustain the attention that they're getting? So whatever you're doing, keep doing and stay focused and don't look at other people. Do not
Starting point is 00:37:16 compare yourself. Iterate when you need to. But I think I think consistency like the businesses and the brands that are the most successful are the people that just keep going. And I think a lot of people get discouraged, as do all of us. Like I have failed more times than I've succeeded. No one talks about the failures, but the failures are what have allowed me to be successful in new businesses. When do both of you feel like you failed? Because from the outside looking in, I don't I mean, I don't see that. Oh, God. I mean, do you have time? Yeah, we have time. I did an immersive experience called A Human, which looked really successful, but I lost some money when I launched the experience. I've launched businesses in beta form that have never seen the light of day that just failed.
Starting point is 00:38:12 I mean, investors that didn't work out that I had to take out of around like the list goes on and on. No one sees the failures, but they kind of exist in your head. I think it's good for you to talk about it because I think from the outside looking in, people will see both of your life and they'll say, OK, you've had every chance. You've been on television, you're well-connected, you're well-funded, you have good ideas, you have resources. And so I think it's good to talk about the failures because to your point, it's not always a win and it's about continuing to try different things and keep going. But I think people, what they'll do is they'll say, well, I don't have what Simon and Phil have. So I'm never going to try, but you've had all these things and still had bumps. Right. Right. And I think a lot of people, they, they quit before they even start by just telling
Starting point is 00:38:52 themselves they don't have maybe some of the resources or the connections or yeah. And even with the connections, sometimes things can still go wrong. Yeah. Yeah. And then of course, lightning in a bottle, like there is always a little bit of luck. Right. There is like the day that I called Lizzie Grubin's office, someone picked up and thought that I was crazy and funny and agreed to have me come in. And just so happened the day that I came in, Jonathan was there and he said, oh, like we should sit down and have an interview with you. Like you seem like a real person. And so we have both been lucky, even meeting Phil, all of these things. I have never felt stronger professionally because of my relationship with Phil. I'm so
Starting point is 00:39:31 focused on the things that matter, like our personal life, our family, and our business. There's no distractions. He seems like a good husband. Me or Simon? Both of you guys. Yeah, Phil's a great husband. Who's a better husband? Phil. Phil's kinder. Phil's a great husband. Who's a better husband? Phil. Phil's kinder. Phil's a great husband. Better husband.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I'm a better husband than you are a wife. Yeah. Yeah. Are you fucking serious? No, I fully am with you. I'm true. You think you're a better husband than I am wife? Yeah, 100%. Why?
Starting point is 00:39:57 I want to hear this. I just think that I'm... He's dead serious. I'm dead serious. Yeah. He's trying to think of the reason why. I think like if you take... I'm not saying I love you more. You love dead serious. Yeah. Well, you're trying to think of the reason why. I think like if you take, I'm not saying I love you more,
Starting point is 00:40:06 you love me more. You love me more. I'm saying that I just feel like I bring 110% all the time. What do I bring? Like 90. That's untrue. Because sometimes you'll have a rough.
Starting point is 00:40:17 The difference is that your percent you see, mine is seamless. Wait, okay. Gun to your head, if you had to take an unbiased panel of people that don't know and they get to observe us for they're gonna say you but that's because i'm a sleeper cell right i am the alligator that you can't see the mouth with the eyes because i'll give you one when you come home i always make sure the house has every checked vibe you could possibly have but time out time out time out time out though the candles are lit time out the house is clean the bossa nova's playing the kids are running around with smiles
Starting point is 00:40:57 on their face it's very idyllic the life that i curated if you're being dead on i'm being dead honest in front of a group. Living for this. How much are you doing that for me? And how much are you doing that for yourself? It's a mix. It's a mix. It's a mix.
Starting point is 00:41:13 It's a checks mix bag. I'm doing it. Your dad came over to my house. And you know what he said to me? He woke up every morning to Spanish guitar. And he said, I love the way you run your house. And I said. Such a compliment. you run your house. And I said... That's such a compliment. Because your dad saw the seamlessness of how
Starting point is 00:41:30 I am in the marriage. Okay. Once again, I'm asking you, unbiased, if you were to judge... You would be judged initially and then people would get to know us really well and it would be me. That's my honest opinion. The fact that you plan a trip so already,
Starting point is 00:41:46 like I'm a little bit biased. Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah, the trip planning is pretty key. Okay, I've never booked a flight my entire relationship since I was 21 years old. We had Steph
Starting point is 00:41:54 on the show the other day and we were talking, right? I know your friends. Oh, love, family. And she was talking about what she does for her husband, how she packs for him and unpacks.
Starting point is 00:42:00 And then I realized yesterday when we landed here, I unpacked for you and I packed for you. Yeah that's true. That's amazing. Phil packs for me. You do it.
Starting point is 00:42:08 You pack everything. I book the flights. I pack everything. I am the director of vibes. Yeah. So when Simon comes home the vibes are immaculate.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Immaculate all day long. On a level that I wish I could live like. Like tell me the vibes because you are a vibe curator so what's the vibes? It's kind of like what you just described.
Starting point is 00:42:25 It's like candles are lit. The house has to be clean. I can't have any clutter anywhere. It's Marie Kondo. It's immaculate on a level that you cannot. It's like a showroom. I need to know
Starting point is 00:42:35 a couple questions. What kind of music's playing? Oh my gosh. Well, Simon's a little bit music sensitive. So during the work week, there can't be any music. Oh, there can't be any music.
Starting point is 00:42:44 So what I'll do is I'll put in headphones and like he's yelling at me and can't get a hold of me. That's EMF on his ears though. Do you really want that in his brain? I cannot hear it. I cannot have the background noise when I'm on a call. And you have a light Nordstrom's piano jazz. Yes but that's not what I'm getting. I'm getting like Becky Hill at full volume.
Starting point is 00:42:59 What's Becky Hill? It's Becky Hill. She's true. It doesn't even matter. Becky I love you. how did we get there it's just too loud for me i need complete silence i can't do horns in the morning no horn music oh horns what do you guys play let me let me let me let me let me like a trumpet this is the move you got to go to sleep to five to eight hertz. Those are not music. It's frequencies. OK, so your body is releasing anxiety and energies as you sleep. OK, five to eight
Starting point is 00:43:33 hertz needs to be on every single night you sleep. Hands down. You can't like that's like like you have to. OK, OK. Then you wake up. When I wake up, I'd love a classical saxophone maybe really light no that's for the evening no no it's the saxophone it's a soft gen it's called gentle saxophone okay then throughout the day a light bossa nova with with no words you can't do for the workday it's good for your flow i'm gonna take i'm taking notes yeah take notes i'm taking taking notes. And then as you get later into the night, a Hermanos Gutierrez, which is like a, what is it, Michael? It's like a, it's like kind of like a vibe, like an incense vibe. I'm sure you pronounced that completely wrong.
Starting point is 00:44:13 I did. It's kind of like a Spanish guitar. Love it. But the point is, is like it's giving vibes throughout the day to walk you through your day like a candle. No, but the point was to say is that the person that sets the vibes does bring a lot to the marriage so phil and i bring a lot to the marriage because we're curating your life yes i'm saying you bring a lot to the marriage but you're
Starting point is 00:44:34 not the the best in the marriage i am okay i'm so serious no i'm dead serious okay i go above and beyond okay i'm the best because i'm letting you have that smoke and also what you do lauren is notorious she'll come to the house she'll make a disgusting mess all over the place because i like i like and then she will clean it all up and then she'll look at me and be like aren't you grateful and i'm like you just literally it's your own mess no i i love you i love you he's kind of leaning towards me yeah guys everyone's the best in their own special way what what is the secret to way. What is the secret to your relationship?
Starting point is 00:45:07 What is the secret sauce? What do you guys both bring to the relationship that you think make it work? Any tips for couples out there? I mean, maybe I could say what you bring and you could say
Starting point is 00:45:16 what I bring. That's better. Simon, this is dicey. Good luck. No, I think, honestly, the key is Simon brings a ton of, he's got the best
Starting point is 00:45:24 sense of humor. Like, he's the funniest person I've ever met in my life. And, like, you know, you think you'd get tired. I'd get tired of it, like, eight years in. But, like, he keeps me on my toes. Like, even if I'm annoyed or angry or mad, like, he can just say the right thing that just, like, made me laugh. Like, I cannot stay mad at him ever.
Starting point is 00:45:39 That's so nice. That's really, really nice. Thanks, Bill. You're welcome. I think that Bill bill and this is gonna sound like cheesy but it's true like bill has like the values of like the person growing up that i saw maybe in my dad like he's just like a good person like he's not there's not a bad bone in his body and i love that like i'm so attracted to like the human being that he is.
Starting point is 00:46:07 I can be a little moody sometimes. No, but you're not like he's just innately like interested in surrounding himself with like nice, happy people. Like there is no ulterior motive. I think that's a huge compliment coming from Simon because he has been around so much nightmares of yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Hollywood like PR. And I think that's a nice compliment coming from him especially yeah love you hopefully you have a list of things to fucking tell me about because that we're running out of time though so yeah um okay before you go if people had to start with one of each of your products what are you starting with and i'm i'm just gonna say my two favorites real quick the one that i would recommend is let me focus that's the one that i ate the entire you left it for us at your media i ate the entire bottle it's so good i have two or three at a time is that okay yeah it's fine okay i also though really do love how the vagina one tastes her is amazing and i'm gonna be purring
Starting point is 00:46:59 all night no from it yeah have a few more yeah michael wants me to like ingest the whole bottle yeah perfect yeah could be the first one and then for the candle i'm at the croissant you can't go wrong but also your pumpkin collab that you did with half-baked harvest was the huge one was in my house for so long it was the perfect burning candle so those are my recs. What do you guys recommend? For Lemmy, for me, I'm probably Lemmy Chill and Lemmy Curb and Capsules because I have been battling like a sugar issue for so long that it's finally stopped my cravings. For Sniff, like Half-Baked Harvest, the Pumpkin Smash Candle is just all the cozy fall vibes.
Starting point is 00:47:40 But there's another candle called Instant Karma, which is like one of my personal favorites. And it's like, she's perfect. She's perfect. It's like spicy, a little bit pear sweetness. It's just like, it's amazing. You just sold me on that. Can we do a giveaway with both of the products? Obviously. Okay. Let's do a big, like what should we do? Like a big basket of. Yeah. Whatever you want. A marriage between Simon and Phil's brands. Yeah. I love it. Okay. So we're going to give away a basket of Lemmy and also Sniff.
Starting point is 00:48:08 All you have to do is follow both brands on Instagram and tell us your favorite part of this eccentric, colorful episode on my latest Instagram at Lauren Bostic.
Starting point is 00:48:20 And then if you guys want to do a code, we didn't even talk about this. We sure do. Can we do code skinny on both? 100% done. I'm going to go shop my I'm going to go get some vagina gummies.
Starting point is 00:48:32 You're going to be you're going to be calling me the best wife. Between the candle and let me purr I'm going to be my vibes are really going to be stunning. Where can everyone find both of you guys
Starting point is 00:48:46 at Simon Huck on Instagram at Pip the Rip on Instagram and at sniff dot well www.sniff.co
Starting point is 00:48:55 S-N-I-F and lemmelive.com and this was so fun to do with both of you because you guys have never done an interview together and this was fun
Starting point is 00:49:02 to get both sides I feel like it was a little bit therapeutic I don't know simon was like nervous around me or something yeah we should be couples therapists now we're gonna go get the fried olives oh my gosh do a fried olive candle no actually honestly we should do something like a pickle yeah yeah two things before you go you can watch us now on YouTube.
