Starting point is 00:02:10 November 22nd is the anniversary of the day JFK was shot. Shh. November 23rd. Seattle, Washington at Washington Hall. That's easy. It's the hall that's named after the state. Easy. That one's easy. November 24th. Portland, Oregon at Hawthorne Theater.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Oh, fuck. That's cool. That's kind of hip. Hip spot. That's Portland. Yeah. From Portlandia. Oh.
Starting point is 00:02:37 November 26th, San Francisco at Great American Music Hall. That's great. Whoa, hippies. That's cool. Hippie town. Yeah. And then finally, we return to Los Angeles November 27th at the Lodge Room, Highland
Starting point is 00:02:52 Park. Oh, very nice. The Lodge Room. So, we're going to be doing drinks at all of these, and it's going to be just like the show, but it's going to be live, and we're going to be having fun. It's a live drink along. Anything goes.
Starting point is 00:03:07 360 experience. Come on out, folks. We want to see you bring a friend. We want to see you and bring a friend. But don't tell your friend where they're going. Just whisper it to your friends. Spread the word. Quietly.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Spread the word, but shh. Thanks, folks. Thank you. Bye. Keep it down. Hey, folks. Welcome to the Sloppy Boys, where we take a deep dive into the drinks that you love. I'm Jeff Dutton along with Mike Hanford.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Yo! And Tim Kalpakis. What is up? And we are your hosts, the Sloppy Boys, hitting the road so very soon. Oof! A-shh! No, no, now it's time to say it loud. Now we're loud and proud?
Starting point is 00:04:03 You're yelling to the rooftops. We're doing it. Well, the song played, didn't it? Yeah. Yeah, once you hear that loud, loud music, you can talk loudly. Now, Tim, you're back in your home base. Mm-hmm, finally. How's that feel?
Starting point is 00:04:17 And you sound great, and you look even better. Oh, thank you. Now, you were in some cool spots, Tim. I did a little, I did kind of a tour of the Northeast. I was in Cape Cod last time we did an episode, but you know what I did in the meantime that was fun? I finally had the timing right, and I was in Saratoga Springs in a moment where I was like, the horse races are never happening when I'm in town. Let me check. in a moment where I was like,
Starting point is 00:04:44 the horse races are never happening when I'm in town. Let me check. And it happened to be, I Googled on a Thursday morning and it happened to be opening day of the Saratoga race season. So I went there and gambled on the ponies. It was really fun. Cool.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Did you win anything? I don't know anything about horse racing. Gambling. Horse gambling. I lost all day because I was there with my parents and our method was for my mom to choose the horse name that she likes the best, regardless of odds.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Oh, come on. So we just ate shit all day. And then there was one day we, one race we would have won, but I hit the wrong button and bet on the wrong horse. But, Oh,
Starting point is 00:05:17 the highlights were, I drank a drink called a, a Saratoga breeze that was Belvedere oj and grenadine that was pretty good like a collector's cup um and then i think i texted you guys this i i was there and i was like you know what i bet i'm gonna see here oh right right right my pizza uh my guilty pleasure pizza taster man canceled pizza influencer uh and i didn't i didn't see him but then i heard some dudes walking past and one of them said hey there's and i looked up and i didn't i didn't see i was eavesdropping and then looking around
Starting point is 00:05:54 where is he i never seek him out but i did see uh i don't know if it was reddit or whatever i saw him walking out of my papa Gino's in the Londonderry, New Hampshire. And I had to watch. He, he, he reviewed Papa Gino's. Wow.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Papa Gino's. But the one I went to as a kid, you know, I remember. How did he rate it? Review it. 7.5. That's very high.
Starting point is 00:06:19 But also it was, it was a fairly glowing 7.5, like a very nostalgic 7.5. Cause he seems like a, I don't know, I'm going to say a Massachusetts guy. Yep. Yeah. A mass. Reviled Massachusetts guy.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Sure. A lot of people are reviled even just within Massachusetts. Hey, as long as we're talking about celebs that we've discussed on the pod before, Sabrina Carpenter, we know her, of course, from their, her popular espresso song and please, please, please, which I'm enjoying.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And the limoncello spritz. And the limoncello spritz. John Carpenter's niece. Really? No, no. May as well start getting that going. But it's Bart Simpson's niece.
Starting point is 00:07:03 A nepo niece after all. Yeah. Of who? Bart Simpson's niece. Nancy Cartwright. Nancy Cart Simpson's niece. A nepo-niece, after all. Yeah. Of who? Bart Simpson's niece. Nancy Cartwright. Nancy Cartwright's niece. Oh, I see the resemblance. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:12 She's my niece, dude. Shut up, Bart. I remember that episode. Oh, man, dude. Shut up, Bart. No, here's what I was going to say about Sabrina Carpenter. She was a Disney kid. Yeah, they're all Disney kids. They're all Disney kids.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Well, what? This is another trick on me. I mean, I'm- Tim and I are Disney kids, Mike, they're all Disney kids. They're all Disney kids. Well, what? This is another trick on me. Tim and I are Disney kids, Mike. I wish you guys were. We have a much popular podcast. Wait, have we talked about that Sabrina Carpenter is the blonde girl from Driver's License, the live route song? I now know that. Yes, I remember it now, but then see.
Starting point is 00:07:41 I now know that. But it's just like this whole thing of geez i i don't know i thought this person lived a real life oh come on mike why just because somebody's nepo or or no disney you think they didn't live down there in orlando yeah you're right they lived and you know one of my faves uh ryan gosling was a was a now the guy disney guy yes i guess i just felt fooled tricked a little bit i feel like when when these disney people come out and do stuff they're like you know she's got problems with her boyfriend type song or mia espresso song it should be like oh and this person who's uh doing pop stuff they were a disney person so then you can go oh okay i see what they
Starting point is 00:08:22 say they're having problems with their boyfriend, you can picture it. The boyfriend probably lives in Burbank. Okay. Right. Yes. Yes. He probably has two big black ears. Right. Right. It would be Mickey. Two, two, yeah, well, okay. Um.
Starting point is 00:08:39 It would be Mickey. Speaking of Pop Girl Summer, um, on a recent- PGS. Very good episode of the Sloppy Boys Blowout, kind of a subscription-only show that everyone should be listening to. All of them are pretty good. Yes. Yeah, they're all very good.
Starting point is 00:08:56 But on a recent one, we're talking about Brat by CharlieXCX. We're talking about Brat Summer. We're talking about Brat Culture. We're talking about Brat Summer. We're talking about brat culture. And I still haven't crystallized this, but I was working on a theory about why brat culture. Yes. Right, right, right, right, right. I remember.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yes. Tim's ethereal theory. And I'm still dialing it in. I want to have it ready in time for the live podcast tour in November. Okay. Great. But here's something that backed me up. I was saying that being a brat
Starting point is 00:09:28 is maybe a societal response to coming out of the Yas Queen era that now we're in the brat era. Since I made that rough and raw but incisive, insightful point. And brave, yeah. Yeah, I was surprised. surprised uh brave right after we came out of that episode with that episode katie perry dropped an album and the lead single uh was
Starting point is 00:09:54 woman's world and it was universally reviled and dunked on and it sounded very much like a 2015 style song like it's a woman's world and you're lucky to be living in it. It was like Gaga kind of production. And, uh, and it ate shit and everybody was like, shut up. Um,
Starting point is 00:10:14 so I do think that the, the saying like woman's world, uh, she seemed a little behind the times and a lot of people were like, what are you talking about? Like, shut up, just get out of here. Um, so I'm taking that as a little i'm putting that as a little um not a
Starting point is 00:10:31 feather in my cap that would be no no no it's it's part of your thesis folks don't look back to katie perry on women's issues look forward to tim kalpakis well or i think right out there with the brat pop girl he's the Summer you got Dutz in the remix He's a bit of a brat We're out there Dutz in the remixers I'm loving that album Jeff Oh thanks Michael
Starting point is 00:10:53 But you know I'm a huge Dutz fan He's been a Dutz fan from the very beginning What if you tour and it's Dutz in the remixers And me and Mike are the backing band called the remixers We could hand you the Vinyl for you to spin So the remix mike are the backing band called the remixers oh yeah we could hand you the uh the vinyl for you to spin so the remixers are the backing band so it's like yeah that's so it's tip tip is sauce now okay so it goes i suppose wait a minute i had another thing to say about disney kids please if i if i absolutely may. Whenever I see somebody and it's just like, Oh, here's the new face.
Starting point is 00:11:27 You gotta, you gotta know this person. And like they're kind of all up on your social media feeds. And I'm like, how did this 18 year old amass 6 million followers right under my nose? It's Disney. It's always a Disney kid or a Nickelodeon kid. Cause they've started early. Yeah. And it's like, oh no, you don't know her from The Descendants? The Disney
Starting point is 00:11:51 villain show? Right. But then, you know, you meet our buddy Joel Keeler. He's got kids, so he can tell you this stuff. Cameron Dove, or Dove Cameron, is from The Descendants. It's weird. In the case of Sabrina Carpenter, not only was she a Disney kid, like an actor, but this is her fifth
Starting point is 00:12:14 or sixth album. Yeah, that I didn't know either. She's been a musician for a long time. She's only 25. That's crazy. A lot of people don't hit their stride until album five or six. Yeah, sure. A lot of young, talented musicians i'm pronouncing your name wrong by the way i thought it was sarbina um you were probably like sabrini carpenterini for a while sarbina carpenterini i thought it was
Starting point is 00:12:37 sarbina i love sarbina front row um sing please please please sarbina he knows the music he just doesn't know her name um another thing with the talking about the new faces you ever when something is small and indie and then it gets big you ever have a feeling of like possession over like oh that was my thing and now everybody knows it right there's versions of that that are well earned you know they're over the years have been indie bands that i was really into and they broke big and then it's a silly you should always just be happy for the time you were inconsolable when modest mouse came out with float on you know what i but that's one that uh it's not like i was deep enough i did know them before float on and i had a tinge of that feeling but then other people were so felt that so strongly that I was all right off the bat telling them to lighten up.
Starting point is 00:13:30 But I feel like it's funny how that possessiveness, the neat, it's the stupidest thing to, to brag about or to feel good about. But like I stupidly, I had a tinge of that with chapel roan because i was listening to her like maybe in october right you know and then uh so then she gets really big in april i'm like yeah i guess everyone everyone listens to her now it's like tim walsh her real fans have known about her since she was like 16 right but i'm like well i heard i heard the singles before the album dropped no i remember pink pony club and I was talking about like, Oh, she's kind of doing like an, an Alex Cameron sort of, uh, yeah, you guys told me about her. Like, that's how you told her.
Starting point is 00:14:14 It is very Alex Cameron. That's like unreliable narrator, like music where you're, you're embodying like somebody who isn't giving you all the facts. Who am I thinking? I always think like Warren Zevon. It's funny to get into her as a smarty pants lyricist and then see her at bonnaroo and coachella and be like oh she's a gigantic pop star as well good voice and dancing and singing and and everybody loving them not just for the grumpy guys harry nilsson is the guy i keep thinking of harry nilsson does a lot of songs like songs like that word zevon is kind of what you're thinking too jeff i think yeah like he's a little like yeah a little character-y you know what i mean i'm sure that chapel roan really identifies
Starting point is 00:14:55 with randy newman if he loves all these comparisons yeah but has songs like the songs are kind of like in a person's persona whether they're fake i, these are all big influences on Tim Heidecker. Right. You can hear that for sure. The guy comes out with a divorce album when he never got divorced. That's interesting. Uh-huh. Interesting stuff.
Starting point is 00:15:15 And he was a big influence on Tim Meadows. Yeah. I think. The ladies, man. That's right. Perfect. Well, do we want to hear about the... Wait.
Starting point is 00:15:27 No. Okay. No. Yeah. Well, do we get into some booze news? Hit it. Do we get into some booze news? Hit it.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Four ounces orange juice orange whip good one ounce rum orange whip good one ounce vodka orange whip orange whip good two ounce cream just shake it shaker a little shake orange whip good. You're going to blend briefly with a hand blender and then pour ingredients over ice in a Collins glass and stir. Orange whip good. Orange whip good was sent to us by Leonard Squidward
Starting point is 00:16:20 and if you have a Booze News theme, email it to thesloppyboyspodcast at gmail.com. Nice, Leonard. The, anytime there's like a, somebody's screen name or something is like a mashup of two real things. I love that. Leonard's good word.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Squidward. There's a real like tradition of that. I feel like originally as Twitter handles, it's really funny. We've taken two. Yeah, truly. I think,
Starting point is 00:16:41 I think Gnarls Barkley was like the first one. It was a couple other ones, but it's very common on X, formerly Twitter. X. It's all happening on X. Oh, I wanted to say, remember last year, last year, last week, there was that booze news theme that was like the DuckTales theme. And we were like, why would that have been associated? like the DuckTales theme. And we were like, why would that have been associated? We did talk about once.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Well, Tim thought maybe it was because he used to say, yeah, DuckTales is on to his family. And that's a story we've heard before on the pod. And then Jeff was saying melodically, book guy, oh yeah, sounded like DuckTales, woo-hoo. Right, but then we used to sing, and I think we've talked about it on the pod, Cocktails, woo-hoo. So I wonder if he was drawing from that somehow.
Starting point is 00:17:27 But even still, that doesn't really make too much. I don't see the connection right away. I was hoping that would spark something. This is why what could be great about a piece of art, art is open to interpretation. It's what we bring to it. I'm still talking about that song. That's how artistic this guy is. That's how artistic this art is.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Okay, well, here's a piece of booze news that I'm bringing in myself, not from the mainstream media, but this is me sniffing around. Oh, wow. You guys are interested in cocktail trends, right? Yeah, cocktail culture and apparel
Starting point is 00:18:05 and that type of stuff. I guess. Well, I've been out there rooting around, sniffing around, you know, underneath tables, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:14 lots of people, oh, what's that down there? Oh, it's Tim. He's got a sniffing around cocktail bar. Oh, he's sort of snarfing and snorfing around down there. Okay, just let him.
Starting point is 00:18:21 He's covered in crumbs. He seems happy. Here's the thing that I know. He seems happy. Just let him go for it. Jesus, he let him. He's covered in crumbs. He seems happy. Here's the thing that I see. He seems happy. Just let him go for it. Jesus, he likes it. Have either of you guys seen cocktails with Gatorade in them? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:18:37 So electrolytes. You're talking about electrolytes. I'm talking electrolytes. First, a couple months ago, there was a viral tweet with a picture of a menu from a bar in Richmond, Virginia, and had a drink called Rosé Derayed. Rosé and Red Gatorade. Rosé Derayed. Okay. Kind of like a little Gnarls Barkley thing going on right there.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Then, so I took that and I said, i said tim think about that then i kept living my life just file it away don't jump to any conclusions here tim me and jeff were at high tops and los filas and i ordered a drink called the haterade which was gray goose vodka and blue gatorade in a sport bottle big huge sport bottle yeah it's great and it says haterade on it yeah come on okay like what was it like a like a glass shaped like that or an actual like sports it was like a Nalgene like a clear yes oh okay bottle gotcha um so after that I then googled around a little to see are there other Gatorade drinks going on? And I did find there was this cocktail.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I mentioned it one time on here, but there's a pattern forming. Mike is what he's trying to say. I know. He's sort of like the, he's almost like Mark Ruffalo in the Zodiac. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have a map on my wall and I have pins on. I'm trying to get yarned. It goes from Virginia to Los Feliz right right now it's one big easy and i didn't have yarn so it's like a real thick rope
Starting point is 00:20:10 you just need more yarn you can put this all down if we could get a yarn sponsorship that would be great that'd be good joanne fabrics maybe there's a book a cocktail book that came out last year around the time we were talking about uh suburban chic dirty shirley style 90s nostalgia there's a book called uh saved by the bellini and it was a book of like 90s nostalgia cocktail books i mean cocktails in a book um cocktails there's there was a gatorade drink in there and then I found an article so that's just from last year and I found I found an article from last year in Bon Appetit saying that some bartenders are using Gatorade in drinks they like it because of the salt salt brings out flavor so
Starting point is 00:20:57 it's a secret ingredient it's kind of helpful but I don't think it's it's the taste of the salt I think that what we're looking at here is is uh is the post-Borg's the taste of the salt. I think that what we're looking at here is the post-Borg era. The influence of the Borgs can have liquid IV in them. People started thinking, getting the hydration into the drink. So I think that that's why we're seeing Gatorade starting to get poured into our cocktails all over town. That's interesting. Yeah, it rejuvenates as you drink. Much like Dutz and the remixers, you're remixing it just right out the gate.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Shit. It's being remixed. Work it out on the remix, eh? The performance itself is the remix. Is there any science behind this, Tim? About hydrating? Yes, good hard science. Like they don't blend together and just cancel each other out or something?
Starting point is 00:21:44 They do. Good hard science. Like they don't blend together and just cancel each other out or something. They do. There's not an article about the science of Gatorade cocktails, but we read one about Borg. And it was like, look, if you drink a full, a fifth of vodka, there's no amount of liquid IV or water that's going to make it normal. It was like, you'd be better off not drinking. But it's not like we're setting out just in life to only be hydrated. We're trying to be drunk and hydrated.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Right, right, right. I mean, look, I remember the Planter's Punch. You know it's got juice cane. Of course. I remember going to bed and waking up feeling great. Yeah? Hey, alright. There is something to be said for getting some hydrating nutrients and like, whatever, sugar fibers,
Starting point is 00:22:24 whatever. That's juice cane. Whatever you got in there. I'm not saying you're going to be said for um getting some hydrating nutrients and like whatever sugar fibers whatever whatever you got it you got in there i'm not saying you're going to be right as rain after drinking a fifth of vodka but i think adding a little bit of you'd be better off you better off because normally when you have a night of drinking and then you pray to god that you remembered to chug some water before bed but If you're doing it this way, then maybe you give in to Satan and you don't drink that glass of water before bed, but you're still okay, you know? And you do
Starting point is 00:22:52 have to give in to Satan, Mike. Seems like it. Great. Is that it for Booze News? Wrap it up. Touchstone Entertainment. Touchstone. touchstone entertainment touchstone am i correct in saying that that production company that the that was it was disney but it was their adult shingle when they didn't want to say it's a kid's movie oh yeah disney after dark ah yeah that's like the disney Channel that had that porn after midnight. It was all just Mickey and Minnie
Starting point is 00:23:26 fucking each other missionary. Okay. Well, Mickey and Minnie are married. They can do whatever they want, you know. Mike, how you doing tech-wise? You got a little sandy looking there. The sandy look, I think, is just because my light is low. Ah.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Ooh, dimly lit. During the break, I might put a more directional light, but I like the software. I'm fine with you looking Sandy. Yeah. Yeah. It's very soft. It's like soft focus.
Starting point is 00:23:51 You look like Marilyn Monroe. It's like, uh, this seat, like the school pictures when everybody was like all breaking out and stuff. Remember like they would have like that Vaseline lens or yeah, I want to do soft touch. Mine was called a soft touch. I'll do soft touch. And we all did it because we looked gross,
Starting point is 00:24:12 man. I didn't have acne or braces. I felt like I, in high school, I felt like I was missing out on some major puberty stuff. What are you talking about? That explains why you're such a gross, ugly guy now. You finally caught up with me. No, I never had braces either. My teeth are all crisscrossing in the front. Me too. My teeth are all fucked up.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Jeff, you chip your teeth quite a bit. I know. It's because I gnash. I bit a nail the other day, chipped a veneer in the front and had to go to the, uh, go to gentle dental. They did real good. And was he gentle?
Starting point is 00:24:52 Um, no, he was, um, rough. Rough orthopedics. Not orthopedics. Orthodontist. I'm just looking. This is episode 197. That's pretty cool. Jesus Christ. What are we going to do for 200? That episode 197. That's pretty cool. Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:25:05 What are we going to do for 200? That's crazy. That's coming up. Are we going to be on the road? I don't know. On the road again? We might be. Oh, it'll probably be the week of the Summer Jam Slam in LA.
Starting point is 00:25:17 That makes sense. That makes sense. That rules. That rules. That rules. That rules. Summer Jam Slam is going to be tight, tight, tight. Yeah, remember that, LA.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Come on out to El Cid on August 15th. It's the Summer Jam Slam concert blowout. Yes. Oh, yeah. Touchstone is producing it. Summer Jam Slam. yes oh yeah touchstone is uh producing it summer james lee and now with booze news out of the way and some additional material we turn our attention to the drink of the day it's like dvd extras he runs like he runs like the swiss transportation system okay let's get into the drink of the day. This is a very exciting one. The rocket fuel you've had. Kaboom! No!
Starting point is 00:26:09 Yeah, I'm with my kaboom. No. Okay. Fire Island, New York you've been. Not been. I've been through it to get to some... Where did we go, Tim? We went to some... Yeah, did we drive through?
Starting point is 00:26:24 We went to Montauk. No, we went to Amagansett. Amagansett, that's where I was. But we didn't go out on the narrow strip that is Fire Island. Right, oh, right. Oh, this is just you two. I've seen some... I tell you, I've seen some really good Verbos or Airbnbs.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Book them up. I've been looking them up. Looking them up. I'm usually planning a vacation that'll never happen. That's always kind of what's happening with me. Just book it up and then it happens, you know? Yeah. Let me try this one on you.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Fire Island, 2002. The film you've seen? 2002? 22. The film? 2022. I think. I was just guessing.
Starting point is 00:27:03 2021? I think around the pandemic i i have seen that yes not seen okay well um these are all um basically yeah well long island at all mike you've been jeff you ever been on long island once for a wedding hey let me guess north fork uh i wouldn't know I wouldn't I was I was transported there and they said get out here's the wedding and I did it and I got back in the car were you a young boy no I was a young man I'm a big Montauk fan I've been there a bunch not a bunch but a few times on vacation and yeah me and Mike did the Hamptons for the 4 of july a couple years ago and of course everybody knows that i saw weezer at
Starting point is 00:27:49 jones beach in 2002 right um and the opening act was sparta and the guitar player went on to engineer the sloppy boys album sonic ranch 20 years later. Yeah, Gabe Gonzalez. But no, I've never been to Fire Island either. Heard about it forever. My brother and sister have been, they rented a house with some friends one time and they're telling me like, oh, you don't bring a car, you take a ferry across, you're walking around. You don't bring a car, you bring a boat. It's on the water, Tim. You got to have a boat?
Starting point is 00:28:20 You bring a boat. You bring it with you and then just have it with you. The streets are water tip but i've seen all these cool pictures where it's uh these like kind of boardwalks like narrow boardwalks going through the walkways through the dunes and stuff so you can walk all around good for a boss head like you though huh yeah i mean uh i'm sure that bruce has been here oh i'm sure he's been. He's probably played shows. On vacation from the Jersey Shore, he went to Fire Island doing one.
Starting point is 00:28:49 If there's a boardwalk, Bruce has been on it. He probably cuts the ribbons on boardwalks when they open. And he's been underneath it too. Oh, gosh. You know what's so funny? I used to think boardwalks were just things that were a few inches off the ground, just planks put together so you could walk over the water, sand a little better.
Starting point is 00:29:13 But boardwalks that like, you know, that song under the boardwalk where people were like making love or whatever. Right. A boardwalk is like what I think of like that would be in Santa Monica where you can actually like walk. Like a pier. But I was picturing like I was like so people dig underneath like into those because I heard on like the oldies station as a kid just wood on
Starting point is 00:29:31 sand and they're kissing beneath it like mole people they're like digging underground the mole people this song is about hookups of mole people I think that that song it's it's under the boardwalk and then in parentheses mole people by the drifters people boogie that seems like one of those songs that was probably written by uh carol
Starting point is 00:29:56 king oh really oh cool yeah i'm on that big carol i believe it would be tin pan alley some sort anyway i kind of did mean that when i used the word boardwalk before about Fire Island, I did actually mean just sort of like boards that you walk on. Yeah, because I think that's more of the East Coast style boardwalk. Well, not on the Jersey Shore. They got the big Carnival style, Santa Monica style, Santa Cruz style. Yeah, you're right. Plus, we went to Coney Island and it was much different.
Starting point is 00:30:23 We'll do a separate episode about the logistics of boardwalks but that's the deal out there on fire island it's also you know it's the big gay enclave in new york it's sort of the province town of new york pride happens there in june i want to say that this year madonna performed and everyone was mad at her about it or she did bad. Mad. Mad's Donna. But I think that the pride zones are kind of like the pines and cherry grove. But then there's also like there's parts that are just quiet, like rental houses for family vacations. And there's parts that are more like fratty party boy touristy spots or whatever. Today's drink comes to us from Ocean ocean beach which is just like the big main tourist town um and you guys witnessed this happening our friends mookie and meredith went
Starting point is 00:31:16 to the davis park casino in davis park fire island and meredith texted us a picture of a drink and said hey you gotta do this drink it's called rocket fuel and i said to myself i said tim now hey wait a second you've not had but you've heard about this drink because they've talked about it on las culturistas they're big fire island guys and they've had it and they talked about how they love it um and i want to say i've read an article about it or maybe heard my sister talk about it and we talked about how they love it um and i want to say i've read an article about it or maybe heard my sister talk about it and we're coming off our hit episode the pina colada corona right so we were like let's keep this pina pina pineapple coconut five plus amaretto was present in the the hand slammer the front runner for drink of the summer yeah not just present uh as a game
Starting point is 00:32:03 changer you know this is the star of the show in the hand slammer, some people are saying. It feels like it's going to be a star of this show as well. And here's the history of the rocket fuel, which was invented in the early 80s at CJ's restaurant and bar in Ocean Beach. The bar was owned by a guy named Giovanni Palermo, Gio. The bar was owned by a guy named Giovanni Palermo, Gio. And the way he made it was Bacardi 151 in a pina colada and an amaretto floater on there. And he was like, ouch, that's strong with a 151.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Let's call it a rocket fuel. So it's a big party drink because typically, you know, a pina colada is a fun beach drink, but you're not getting like hammered off of them. So this is kicking it up a notch. From CJ's, it blew up and spread all across Fire Island. So they make them everywhere now. Sometimes you see it in a hurricane glass. Sometimes you see it in a pine glass, but usually you're seeing it in a plastic cup. And it's funny.
Starting point is 00:33:01 There's the preparation is a little different. Some places float the rum. The rum is a floater instead of the Amaretto. We're going to do the Amaretto one. Yeah, that's good. I mean, I feel like it is more typical to float that high proof rum, but if the,
Starting point is 00:33:13 if it's the body of the drink, then yeah, float your Amaretto. I always think of Amaretto as a floater just cause you like, or like darker things are floaters. Cause you get that like drip down. You get to see them. The look of it
Starting point is 00:33:25 yeah like your meyers i think there's there's a school of thought behind each one if you if you the good thing about floaters i heard this came up a lot when i was reading about this drink is like an iced drink is getting as you drink it it loses flavor right because you're getting left with just sort of the snow that is that is just icy so when you have a floater you're getting left with just sort of the snow that is, that is just icy. So when you have a floater, you're in charge, you're doing a little customizing as you go because you're, you're in charge finally for once in your life. But you know what I mean? Like you could poke down a little bit of the floater as you go.
Starting point is 00:33:56 If like when you're, if you're having like a Cadillac Marg, you're in your, it's topped with a grand Marnier. You can't goose it up as you go. You know what I'm saying? Goose and go. So if you top with the Amaretto, you're goosing up the flavor. If you top with the 151, you're goosing up with the booze as you go. A lot of people think that it's better to top it with the rum because putting this high proof rum right into the drink is going to melt the ice.
Starting point is 00:34:23 It doesn't stay as cold. Really? eye-proof rum right into the drink is going to melt the ice it doesn't stay as cold really i mean there's not actually logic to it being hotter but uh but you know that alcohol doesn't freeze so you're adding a liquid element that's not going to ice up um i did see one recipe where they pour you know how what do you call those uh little funk things on the top of a liquor bottle at bars, like the pour, speed pours or something? Yeah, a speed pour, and it just drools out. Yeah, and it drools out, and that way you can count when you're pouring like a bartender. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, done. There are some bars that use that thing to pour the 151 right into the straw.
Starting point is 00:35:01 The drink's done, and then they fill the straw with 151 so that on your first sip you're taking a shot of that oh that seems awful that seems rough on the throat that's like a prank yeah what are you doing i'll just burn you what um what what rums are you guys using um i have ray and nephew overproof rum same jeff's got it there too here and what what is the proof on that what are we talking it's like what it's like 126 proof maybe yeah exactly 126 ray and nephew this is the lmfao of rome's i'm using i didn't get a overproof rum i'm gonna use a uh smith and cross navy oh that's a good rum michael it is a good rum and while i was in the store getting my disaronno i picked up another bottle because i said you know what i gotta go for it and it's a good rum, Michael. It is a good rum. And while I was in the store getting my Di Serrano, I picked up another bottle because I said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:35:47 I'm going to go for it. And it's a good rum. It's not cheap, but it's not super expensive. I like it because it's not going to disappear into this drink. That's going to stand up to it. But it's brown liquor. Yours is both white liquor? Yeah, but 151 is brown, right?
Starting point is 00:36:07 Yeah, I think so. Also, 151 proper has been discontinued for a while right yeah buccardi doesn't make it there's other 151 proof rums out there i mean and more there's some rooms that are like 180 um anyway here's the recipe we're using today which uh we found online from from Engel, a bartender at CJ's, leaked the actual recipe. And it's in parts because this is the type of drink you might want to make in a big blender for a bunch of people. But when you're making it solo, I'm going to say one part is one ounce. When you're drinking by yourself on the computer, you don't need to do that. Yeah. This is one of these computer specs um two parts coco lopez coconut cream i couldn't find it i'm gonna use
Starting point is 00:36:53 coco real me too yeah me too i'm sad because coco lopez is delicious i'm giving mine a big shake though oh good oh yeah that'll do it that ought to it. You know what I meant to do? I meant to take it out of the fridge before the show so it's a little more viscous. Nuke it. Duke Nukem. Duke Nukem. Okay. Two parts Coco Lopez. Two parts 151 rum.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Four parts Dole pineapple juice. Wow. By name. I have Del Monte. One part Amaretto. And here is the method. Blend the first three ingredients together with ice, then float amaretto on top.
Starting point is 00:37:30 Serve ice cold in a 16-ounce cup. Nice. I broke my one and only hurricane glass, so I'm going to have to find something. Tim, and that was a hurricane glass that I had lent you. I remember when that broke. I got to replace it. Maybe I'll i'll use it look i've got this here i mentioned the saratoga sunrise from saratoga springs it's a plastic 16 ounce cup this is kind of like that looks like a vacation plastic cup that's yeah you get a lot of these in key west and stuff yeah yeah yeah um well i got a
Starting point is 00:38:02 good plastic cup i can use I don't think I have anything else to say about that Well Okay Forrest Classic film though You have to give it up That's right You're right
Starting point is 00:38:18 Alright folks we're going to go blend up these drinks And when we come back First sips I got a little trivia for. And when we come back, first sips. Ooh, and I got a little trivia for you guys when we come back. I hope I get the question right. Not even a quiz. Just a little one-off trivia.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Not even a quiz? I just looked it up. Okay. and we're back rocket fuels in hand oh god oh look at you jeff yeah i got a little hurricane you got a nice uh popping yellow one my me and tim's looks kind of beige did all y'all floaters fall to the bottom? Yeah. I had like a layer of foam up top that it passed right through. Yeah, I couldn't get this thing to, now I'm just stirring it. I couldn't get this thing to do what I want.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I never do the floater as well. Don't be so hard on yourself. I think some floaters are sinkers just because it's a heavier booze. And how much are you blending, really? I think I overblended. I think I overblended, too. I whipped mine
Starting point is 00:39:30 into liquid. Me, too. I have a Vitamix and I just turned it into split pea soup. Vitamix is a fucking chainsaw. That thing is crazy. Yeah, I should have turned it down, but I went... That's okay if you do it for half of one second. I did it for three minutes
Starting point is 00:39:45 Alright, ready Sips Are you sipping from the bottom or the middle? Are you mixing? What do we do? I'm glad you asked. I'm going to sip selectively I've mixed I'm going to sip selectively. Here we go Mmm
Starting point is 00:39:59 Mmm Mmm Mix that Di Serrano in in there i'm telling you yep oh fuck my life oh boy i was sipping from the middle and i was already like this is a nice zippy pina colada oh the middle way yes the buddha would be proud yes but then when i i got done i mean i fucking love amaretto this shit's the best thing in the world i know it really it really is just like chocolate sauce and it makes everything oh the amaretto with the pineapple
Starting point is 00:40:35 not to mention the 151 yeah that's in there too as well there's no hiding that guy that's in there too as well. There's no hiding that guy. That's pretty good. Mm-hmm. I can tell you already, I used more than two ounces. Like, I just used what was in the end of my last Smith & Cross bottle. And I did more than two ounces. So, this is going to be a heavy, stiff drink. I mean, I did it two. Everything was the same.
Starting point is 00:41:03 I'm kind of already feeling me smacking. My cheeks turn a little bit red. Ratio. I mean, look, you're putting four ounces of pineapple juice in there, though. That's the body. Yeah, but I just know that there's a lot of liquor in there, Jeff, that's going to get to me. Yeah, but you got that four ounces of pineapple juice.
Starting point is 00:41:20 That's the body. Well, here's the other thing. It tastes really good and it's hot in here. so I'm like, each sip is like, and you want those cold sips. Now, let me tell you, you know, I had that little trivia I wanted to run by you guys. Do you know what Navy Strength is all about, what the cutoff is for Navy Strength? Oh, shit. We talked about this?
Starting point is 00:41:42 We should know because we talked about it, yeah. We did. drank oh shit we talked about this we should know because we talked about it yeah we did um it was not the rum runner but what was the drink that was like made by the british navy uh at an island it used like because i have like that navy brand rum painkiller painkiller yes uh yeah i don't remember the number mike but we we discussed this in the painkiller episode continue. Uh, yeah. I don't remember the, the number Mike, but we, we discussed this in the painkiller episode. Continue.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Uh, it is, it is Navy strength is anything over 57 ABV. 57 ABV. Okay. I'm Navy strength. Uh, so that's 114 proof. This is,
Starting point is 00:42:23 uh, yeah, this is 57% by alcohol this one. The painkiller was the one at the original bar where it was like you have the painkiller 2, the painkiller 3, the painkiller 4
Starting point is 00:42:36 based on how many ounces of rum you want and they wouldn't let women or the painkiller 4, I guess. Right, we remember that video of that guy. Yeah, like a real shit-eating green type of jerk. I'm seeing the reason it gets its name dates back to the 18th century in the
Starting point is 00:42:52 British Navy. Gin, maybe rum, was stored on ships next to the gunpowder. Should the gin barrels split and get the higher alcohol content would ensure that the gunpowder was not spoiled and it would still explode interesting what whoa so so the the it was so it was uh yeah it had so much alcohol
Starting point is 00:43:12 that it could be used so they were they were planning on dripping the rum into the gunpowder so they just wanted to make sure that when that happens what's happening that um oh no should the should the gin barrel split and get into the gunpowder okay so it was more protecting the gunpowder i know it's kind of right but it's funny just that they were like it was happening so often that they tweet the liquor um listen this i just got some uh uh some text from my sister because right before we started recording i said you go to fire island a lot right you're author sister i should say yes author of out there we got to have her on to make the amaro spritz.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Oh, yeah. I said, you go to Fire Island a lot. You ever got the rocket fuels? Were you the one that told me about rocket fuel? And she said, yeah, I've been to Fire Island many times. And yes, I've had a rocket fuel. My friend had a bachelorette Fire Island weekend. And all the local Long Island girls brought us to the place that has the best one.
Starting point is 00:44:04 I can ask for the name of the bar. And I said, is it CJ's and Ocean Beach? That's where it was invented. And she said, yes. And I said, did it get you utterly crunk? And she said, I split one with a friend because I was scared. Hee hee. It's tasty, though.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I got pretty, it got pretty buzzed up on half. Okay. Yeah, I bet. So not full crunk out, but oh, turn my no i'm leaving the ac on we made that deal oh yeah we we said we said amongst each other yeah if we have a good segment one we can put on our acs or segment two and then segment three we can play like music in our apartments if we want good drink this is utterly delicious. I did over blend. Are you guys getting any thick?
Starting point is 00:44:46 Like mine is just liquid cold. I'm getting some trucks. Mine is just liquid. But I wish I, yeah, I just want it. I want a uniform blend. You know, like, uh, like an icy or a slurpy. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:58 You know what I mean? Like you're never going to get that at home. You're not going to get it. Never going to get it. Never going to get it. Never going to get gonna get it and vogue i want to say i want to say too we don't know if it's right but we want to say that it'll be i want to say it i want to scream it from the rooftops um how do they get those icies and slurpees so good i think it's because they are carbonated
Starting point is 00:45:30 is that how do they make those pebble ice things yeah is that how they're so granular it's probably that but just shrunk way down well i think that what's great about a slurpee is that it's not like it's just the drink and then ice added. It's like the frozen part of a Slurpee are frozen beverages. Are frozen drink. So what you would really want to do is put some rocket fuel in the freezer, freeze that, and use it to blend up more rocket fuel. Now, I wonder, it would freeze, though, because you're putting in a bunch of high-proof alcohol,
Starting point is 00:46:01 but then you're putting in a bunch of freezables. Oh, that's a good question, Jeff. I don't know if it would split up or what. Good question. You could leave out the rum and just have it be pineapple. You should freeze some after this, Jeff, and see what happens and report back. We'll do it for round two. See if they freeze that fast.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Mine didn't freeze in time. Yeah. Six hours later. You can report after on the next episode. Ooh, Michael. That's good. Make people, ooh, now I got to tune in. Now I got to check it out. freezing time yeah six hours later you can report after uh to the next episode oh michael that's good make people oh now i gotta tune in now i gotta check it out now i gotta tune in now i gotta tell a friend hey i gotta write and report this thing um did we i was just thinking of long island we must have talked about on the pod that when me and mike went to the hamptons
Starting point is 00:46:43 that we saw the winklevoss Brothers band play. I remember what song they were playing. We've talked about it, I think. But yeah. What song, Jeff? Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine. Yeah, the fucking Winklevoss twins playing Rage Against the Machine. It was wild.
Starting point is 00:47:00 They got shots for the entire bar at one point. Yeah, Patron. Well, now I like them again. Well, well because it was a 50 cover to see them they should buy everyone a fucking car those guys that's what you got i mean if if you are that like elite you better just be fucking santa claus 24 7 everywhere you go you got to be buying rounds you got to be that's what i'm like i'm like that with you guys in your rock and roll thing like if you're mr wild rock guy you gotta live up to it yeah it's true yeah tim you are like that with us i bring you guys mcdonald's i say have as many nuggets as you want please bring the keep the nuggets coming for my friend
Starting point is 00:47:36 but then you're like but then you're like oh but i haven't eaten yet but just so you know i'm starving they are my favorite 12 hours later There's a knock at the door Tim Tim he's like Okay how those nuggets coming I want to count each nugget What They're only
Starting point is 00:47:52 You'd have to check the Oh Tim Oh Tim Time to pay the paper And he's a really shrewd accountant too He'll go in with his clipboard And his glasses on his nose
Starting point is 00:48:04 I put on one of those little green visors and bands around my elbows. Okay, one, two, three. There's only seven nuggets in here. Yuck. Y'all are nasty. Well, one might still be digesting. Then I'm going in.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Still digesting. Then I can wait.. Still digesting. Then I can wait. Do you have the PBS app? Oh, Tim. We got to watch PBS while we wait? Oh, man. This day sucks. We should have never gone to McDonald's with you.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Yeah, we should have accepted Tim's McDonald's offer. You accepted the invite. Folks, you know how it is. You got that one friend who wants to come over. They have to count the nuggets in your turds and watch PBS on the app. It's relatable. Nuggets in your turds. Good lord. I mean, I can just picture it. I'm gagging.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Yeah. Gag me with a spoon. If I could be serious for one moment. Sure. You're rather, you're an unserious person though. That's kind of a Gen Z thing to say is like, that's so unserious. Yeah, just like, look at her. She's so unserious.
Starting point is 00:49:19 It'll be like Zendaya just having a normal life. Or it is something silly. It's like a comedian being silly and someone's like, that so unserious right i've never heard on serious mike you are unserious you are you're the most unserious guy i know actually i'm a bit of a silly guy from time to time it's funny to me what slang doesn't pass your desk mike i i used the term sneaky link earlier today and yeah i don't't know that. Tim, you heard Sneaky Link? No, I mean, I understood what it meant because it was a link and it was sneaky. But what made it sneaky, though?
Starting point is 00:49:52 That's what I didn't get. Well, because normally I say link and I post the link to the... Right, right, right. Folks, to the restream record for the night. Yeah, you get a little peek behind how it's made. But Sneaky Link is like your hookup that is a hush-hush. to the restream record for the night. Yeah. You get a little peek behind, uh, how it's made, but sneaky link is like, uh,
Starting point is 00:50:06 your hookup that is a hush hush. Oh, link is in link. I guess it's like a link up thing. LinkedIn. Now is that whole thing? Uh, it's yeah,
Starting point is 00:50:16 it comes from LinkedIn. Yeah. Yeah. So LinkedIn is just, uh, it's like, these are just, uh,
Starting point is 00:50:22 condom factory jobs. I clicked on your seat. You're like and I got hired at a condom factory. There were a couple slang terms that have come up on the pod, like yapper. Yeah, I just don't know them. A yapper you can infer. Or I do know them, Jeff, and they've come across my timeline and it just goes right over my head and I don't realize it's a new thing. Or you just don't want to dignify it. Weren't the two of you guys telling me that you're in a situation ship
Starting point is 00:50:51 together? Oh boy. Yeah. The situation is we're trying to get you out of the fucking group. Situationship. Yeah. I think that was maybe one too, that I was like, Oh yeah. I I think I've heard that, but I didn't know what it was exactly. Wait, there was another one that we were talking about on the group chat.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Oh, that's another one. People were making fun of us for saying text chain instead of group chat. Oh, right. I do see in the chat is a meme vehicle. The GC. Oh, right. I do see in the chat is a meme vehicle. The GC. I guess group chat.
Starting point is 00:51:32 Group chat implies, I mean, it's an iMessage term. I think when I think group chat, I think of the ones that I'm a part of where there's like several people. But if I'm just texting one person, it's obviously not a group chat. And then if there's just two people, I'm like, is this really a group chat? I mean, I guess it is. Now, guys, is not a group chat. And then if there's just two people, I'm like, is this really a group chat? I mean, I guess it is. No, is this a group chat? I think when you say group chat, I mean, yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:51:51 And three people is a group chat. Tim, when two or more of you are gathered in my name, it is a group chat. I think of group chat like the birthday boys sketch group. We have a group chat that's like, I can chime in or not chime in. Sometimes I look, if I look at a thing and it's like i can chime in or not chime in sometimes i look if if i look at the thing it's not funny i don't even have to click haha just let it pass yeah yeah yeah right right i know yeah group chat seems like it's like you can get lost in a group chat
Starting point is 00:52:15 i think that's how i think of group chats i got you can't get lost in the sloppy boys text chain no you have to be you're held accountable you're accountable tammy haven't responded it's been minutes all right what would you change to the drink what would you change in the drink it's delicious it's perfect i just want would you change the drink i want to add more disaronno just to see what happens but i don't know it's perfect perfect. I'm only halfway through mine, but I want to try more ice. I want to get more granulated ice in there. Maybe I'll make a half, put it in there,
Starting point is 00:52:51 and just kind of redo it. I think I'm going to make a half. And then add that cherry and maybe a little of that cherry juice. Oh. Oh. That cherry au jus. You have like those Italian cherries? Yeah, I'm going to do those Italian cherries.
Starting point is 00:53:03 The Fabrio, I think they're called. Fabrizio moretti i'm gonna mix up that uh that goo that gooey liquid with the drink oh now what am i gonna do to fucking wow the people everybody's wondering not much man after those two whoo i don't have pineapple i don't even have cherry. What about lime? Oh, I got lime. Fuck. There you go. Lime and pineapple? I think that would work. I mean, a pina colada would have lime in it, so why not?
Starting point is 00:53:30 Lime time. You're a lime freak. You're the man for the job. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Tim, anything up your sleeve for round two? I have half of rocket fuel left. I'm going to dump it back into my Vitamix, but with new ice. Try to blend it. get a thicker blend then i'm gonna top with more amaretto and make it extremely disaronno centric wait hold on i just thought
Starting point is 00:53:53 of something important though jeff you uh you're a lime freak yeah are you aware that there is a now in 2024 a lime emoji finally what there was always a lemon but there was never a lime until 2024 and now it's there it's a sliced lemon wedge lime wedge looking lime i gotta see this thing it's brand new stop the pod take a picture of yourself seeing the lime emoji and then post that you should post a reaction video. There it is. It's beautiful. What does it mean?
Starting point is 00:54:30 It's a little lime. Oh, wow. It is a slice of lime. Holy shit. Pretty good. Slice of life. Because I was always picturing the lemon, but green. I always prayed for that because when I post on Instagram, I've always been looking for lime emoji and they don't have it. And recently I went looking for it and there it was. for Lime Emoji and they don't have it.
Starting point is 00:54:47 And recently I went looking for it and there it was. And I said, is this new? And I Googled, yeah, it's new, bitch. Wow. You know, speaking of new emojis, I also like the nodding and shaking the head no emojis. Have you seen these? I like those. Yeah, they have like arrows that kind of show which way.
Starting point is 00:55:04 They have like swivel marks around the head. I'm looking at the lime one right now. We had talked about that and we didn't know what it was at first. Have you guys kind of used it for anything yet? Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm using that one. Yeah, yeah. I do like the ones.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Wait, sorry, sorry. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've been looking at these. Were you talking about the ones that's like up and down? Up and down or left to right. The other other one we talked about the vibrating head is such a funny one the earthquake one another one
Starting point is 00:55:34 I use all the time is the pregnant blonde man just to be like I'm hungry and then you use that or like I ate too much and then you use that alright I'm hungry and we're like I ate too much all right let's go make round two I gotta I'm gonna see what I can do in the kitchen you guys um I think yes yeah I think another thing I'm not gonna do it but you know what might be good in here
Starting point is 00:55:56 is an orange element like Grand Marnier or or or a control or a control interesting interest yeah yeah that would be cool well the folks will just Or Quantro. Or Quantro. Interesting. Interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That would be good. That would be cool. Well, the folks will just have to listen to the ads until we get back. Unless they are on the Patreon. Nice. They're getting the ad free.
Starting point is 00:56:15 But Jeff, Jeff, I mean, let's make it clear. We love the folks. Yeah, yeah. We love the folks. Yeah. Don't we love the folks yeah yeah we love the folks yeah don't we love the folks no matter what tier you are or if you're a patreon at all we'd rather you were we'd like you more but we'd love the folks it's just weird it's weird to listen to this show every week and then miss out on every wednesday that
Starting point is 00:56:38 there's another hour-long episode of the show where we're wilding out and talking cool shit like for example this week we're talking... Bratz. Bratz, the movie. Last week we listened to the album Bratz, and this week we watched a movie Bratz. It's Bratz Summer. It's kind of a Bratz thing. Now, when we say Bratz,
Starting point is 00:56:55 we don't mean the dolls with the big eyes and lips. No! No, we're talking about, what is it? Not Andrew McCarthy. Andrew... Yeah, McCarthy. Oh, okay. Andrew McCarthy, he did the Bratz Pack documentary on Hulu. We're talking about what is it not andrew mccarthy andrew mccarthy oh okay andrew mccarthy he did the brat pack documentary on hulu we're talking about that because the brat pack for me is a
Starting point is 00:57:10 blind spot folks interesting interesting i think that makes sense because of our age demographic but you know i've said too much uh in front of the paywall i've said too much me too i'm getting a hiccup so i gotta get out of here remember to be quiet about it shh okay okay we're gonna go make these drinks and shh
Starting point is 00:57:28 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh
Starting point is 00:57:30 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh
Starting point is 00:57:30 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh
Starting point is 00:57:30 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh
Starting point is 00:57:30 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh
Starting point is 00:57:30 shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh shh-I shh-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I Tim, that's a good tank, man. This was the one that I chose not to wear in the tank episode. I like the two-tone.
Starting point is 00:57:54 Yeah, I think this is just to fit on the rest of it, but I guess these kind of things help a little bit. It feels a little like wet-out American summer or something. It's a little old-timey bathing suit, though. Ah, if it had the stripes, Tim, I'd have to tell you to take it right off let's leave this in the edit this is uh we're back we're back yeah okay we'll take that part out yeah we take that part no no no leave that in too they love that okay they like they like they like everything but are we back jeff for for real? They're suckers, man. They eat it all up.
Starting point is 00:58:26 We're back. We're officially back. We're officially back. We're so back. We're back. All right, I'm going to do a sip of my thing here. I did, you know, just a bunch of Splashmore of each thing. And then the...
Starting point is 00:58:38 Mount Splashmore. The ice. I didn't do the ice right, though. It didn't... I know. I'm still having cracked the ice. I had one whole cube somehow made it out. I think, Jeff, the best thing would be cracked ice, actually.
Starting point is 00:58:51 Now you said I haven't cracked the ice. Crack that ice and just mix it in there with that. Don't even use the blender. Because my blender is just chopping my ice to shit. It's got one job, you know. Yeah, it fucking does. Well, it's a good blender. That's the problem
Starting point is 00:59:05 it's just hard to get get a middle ground because at first you're just seeing the whole huge cubes are just getting winged around clack clack clack yeah and then they finally break up and they turn to liquid it's hard to get it stopped at the right moment well here's what i did at first like all the liquid came out then a few big and i put a put a lot of ice in there. I put almost a whole thing in. And the big chunks came out, and then I got to the end, and it was filled to the top of the glass. So I dumped the rest of the little tiny remaining stuff into the sink, and it was all the ice I desired.
Starting point is 00:59:41 If you were just shaking this with pebble ice you might be better off huh if you had if you had true pebble ice if you went to coffee bean so this is a stick up give me all your pebble ice do they pebble ice makers i want to get one um i i used to have a bag of pebble ice that came from one of those fancy uh cocktails but i you know what i've done this is pathetic but from coffee bean and tea leaf yeah i went there, got nice coffee. When I drank it, when it was empty, I put the whole cup of ice into the freezer and was like, I'm going to use this for my Tyler. Yeah, of course. That's what happens when you're a dork.
Starting point is 01:00:15 You got that coffee residue. I just typed in Pebble Ice Maker into Google and it's just showing a bunch of like $100 ice makers. But you know how Google does like the questions or whatever? Yeah. There was a really funny one here. Is the difference between Pebble Ice and Nugget Ice? I've never heard
Starting point is 01:00:36 a Nugget Ice before. There's this Nugget Ice that you count up in your shit afterwards. That was a frequently asked question what is the difference between pebble and nugget ice the answer they're the same thing you know what this is reminding me of is um at the tiki tea they have a drink called the biennian that's that's pina colada-esque but better and stronger and this is reminding me of that. I, on this run, I added a lot more Disaronno,
Starting point is 01:01:06 gave it another blend with some new cubes, and this is just fantastic. Me too. And half a lime. Ooh, how's that lime doing? What did that do? You know, it's just, it sharpens it up just that little bit. It sharpens it up just so.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Hey, they got a little pebble ice tray. You can buy little pebble ice trays. I'm going to do that. Feels like it would take a lot. You'd have to do a... It gives you six pebbles. Stack a bunch of them. It was like a huge sheet. It looked like a sheet pizza. Mine's good too. It's kind of the
Starting point is 01:01:38 same thing. I put in that maraschino cherry juice. Enough to taste it? Nah, not enough. i could have done more yeah uh even garnish wise it doesn't uh you know it doesn't prescribe a garnish but i was seeing a lot of photos of a maraschino or a wedge of pineapple a cherry pops real nice on a white drink like this and you could you could this is a drink too you could add quite a bit of things i think or a yellowy drink yeah here's yeah um final thoughts tim submit them stone cold classic one of the best drinks we've ever had on the pod i love it and what's really fun is that it's a rocket fuel
Starting point is 01:02:18 it's a party drink from fire island which makes it even it's better than a pina colada pina coladas are delicious but a little bit played out and basic. So for a sloppy boys listener, glistener, this is perfect. You just learned a drink with a cool name. It gets you drunk, but, because that's the problem with pina coladas, right? You're at a bar, you're like, that's not going to get me drunk. That's going to be like a dessert. And it just leaves you with that like slick coconut oil feeling in your mouth.
Starting point is 01:02:46 This has got like a pure grain alcohol ethanol. It's hard to make something delicious and luxurious, but then also really get you smacked. So I think this is a real Hall of Fame perfect. This is what this podcast is all about, is a drink like this. This is also a good one. Just kind of like you all of a sudden have an exotic drink in your home without that many crazy. It's like,
Starting point is 01:03:09 it's like a tiki drinks can, you gotta, I might have to buy kind of some crazy stuff, but right. And you already have the D Serrano in your house because it's, it's almond summer because of the hand slammer ever. It's brat. It's almond brat summer,
Starting point is 01:03:21 you know, kind of is, it's kind of that type of thing. You know, all the girls are out of the. It's kind of that type of thing. You know, all the girls are out of the bars. Hey, do you have almonds? Can I have an almond? Mike, your final thoughts, please?
Starting point is 01:03:34 I think it's an order again. This is great. I'd never heard of it. I really don't have any changes other than my ice situation here. I know. I've gotten working back some hiccups. Folks, it's an order again and again and again. Yes, it's a pain in the ass to make. Yeah, you're going to be
Starting point is 01:03:51 coaxing out some Coco Real goo. Not to be confused with the stuff your mom and dad gave you. Fuck that guy. Thomas the... Thomas the Tank Engine. Tim the Tank. Thomas the Tank Engine. Tim the Tank.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Thomas the Tank. Well, I mean, Tim and I were just saying it's an easy drink to make. Jeff is saying it's a difficult drink to make. No, because you've got to get the blender out. It's a pain in the ass. But it's easier than a lot of the drinks we make on here that I call a pain in the ass. Yeah, and blender's back, man. Blended drinks have been out for a while.
Starting point is 01:04:24 They're back. They're back. Yeah, what are you going to do? It's your one life. Make a little mess for once. YOLO, dude. Yeah, make a little mess, but clean it up. Here's another thing I like. Clean it up. Clean up your messes. It's
Starting point is 01:04:35 fun to make a mess, isn't it? But you got to clean it up. Clean up after yourself. Hey, clean up your messes before you leave. Hmm? I ain't talking about coming over for some drinks. This is a Fire Island
Starting point is 01:04:49 drink, big in the gay pride scene. And then last week we were talking about the gay water and we were talking maybe doing an episode about gay water vodka soda coming up. So it's kind of cool that it's gay month here on the podcast. Yeah, perfect. July is gay month here on the podcast. Most of the world celebrates June as pride,
Starting point is 01:05:07 but here on the Sloppy Boys podcast in July, we have game month. We do it a little bit differently. That's our show. Follow us on social media at the Sloppy Boys, where we release these episodes ahead of time. And if you can't get enough boys, you know, it's patreon.com Slash the sloppy boys That's the URL you go for double pleasure
Starting point is 01:05:28 Every week That's the URL you know You know what I forgot to say And it's probably because this drink is Slowly hitting me Remember we did the Corona Collada Last episode and those kind of hit Quicker I think
Starting point is 01:05:43 They did because you're adding this is a slower you're adding rum to beer but this is probably more alcohol well either way the reason I forgot what I was going to say was because of that but what I was going to say is when I made my second round I put the Di Serrano in the blender as well and just did
Starting point is 01:06:00 them all together. Why not? I don't know the float because that taste of the amaretto is what I think I really liked about this drink, so I just stirred it up anyway. Yeah. Floater be gone. It really does jive with the pineapple. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 01:06:15 Fire Island. I haven't been. The mind conjures a much more tropical locale than what it is. I always thought Fire Island was like in the Caribbean. I picture like Survivor. I picture like Costa Rica. Well, it's because of the fucking the fire things that they put out. I think I'm with you, Jeff.
Starting point is 01:06:32 But I mean, you're making a good point. You're Fire Island rocket fuel. Why all the explosive language? Yeah, really? Yeah. Yeah. Hmm. I'm trying to think of the opposites of those things, which, you know, it's not really worth it.
Starting point is 01:06:49 To me. To me, at this point. Of the pod. Bye. Bye, folks. Jeff, I can see you winding up to go, did I do That's Our Show already? This doesn't feel like enough. Guys, everybody be ready on Tuesday to buy tickets for the live podcast tour,
