Starting point is 00:00:02 Hey folks, welcome to the sloppy boys, where we take a deep dive into the drinks that you love. I'm Jeff Dutton along with Mike Hanford. Hi, Jeff. And Tim Kalpacis. What, he's up. Oh, and hi, Tim, too. Oh, and hi, Tim, too. And we're your host, The Sloppy Boys, at the show where funny is money.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Ooh. Well, dudes, I'm hung over. I went out with Tim last night. I drank too much. I came home and I kept making tequila drinks. What? What is going on with you two? What happened? Yeah, what is going on with us? Because I'll tell you what, Jeff, I got home. I dipped into the drink of the week ingredients that I was supposed to be saving for this show. Oh, no. I had two drink of the weeks last night and I wasn't going to say anything. Man, I had a, you know, I had a semi-responsible night at the bar and I was first to leave. And I was patting myself on the back, but with how. I want to put myself in a place in time.
Starting point is 00:01:12 If you don't want to docks, that's okay. Red lion, the backpack. Nice spot, nice spot. Nice spot. And I was so happy with how I had controlled myself at the bar that I was like, I'm going to make some drinks. And Kelsey and I watched a Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'd never seen. Have you guys seen it?
Starting point is 00:01:28 Oh, yes. Tim Curry just passed away. What a double whammy for the drag community, huh, that it was like a dolly part and Tim Curry right back to back. Those are two like glam. glam stars. I came across a song on my Spotify
Starting point is 00:01:44 a couple years ago that was called I Do the Rock by Tim Curry. Maybe I brought it on the show before on the blowout, the better podcast. It was great. It's great. It's just like him kind of like a fun like saxophony like late 70s. Like wee dee dee dee. Oh yeah. That was making the rounds.
Starting point is 00:02:01 Like a like I feel like it's like the S&L like early band like just kind of wee throw that sex in anyway. where you want. Wait, was it his own solo music you put out or from a show? I think he had an album or two, yeah, this was just the only song I know. Yeah. It's really
Starting point is 00:02:17 it's cool. It's funny. It's got to be a lot of pressure if you've been in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Do you think every time you put it a movie from that point forward that people are going to do call in response midnight screenings that they dress up for? Right, right, right. You know, you're in Home Lone 2, lost
Starting point is 00:02:32 in New York and you're like, people are probably going to throw stuff at the screen. Tim, my living room. They still do that. My living room's a mess. They still do that. Had you seen it before, Jeff? No, first time. It's a funny, it's good. I really like the music is really good. The end goes every which way. It's crazy town. Also, like, I knew that Tim Curry was Dr. Frankenfurter, but so this whole time, I didn't know that like Rocky Horror is a character and who is Rocky Horror. Right, right, right. Yeah, I mean, and now I've seen it several times and now I don't know. Rocky is the,
Starting point is 00:03:08 is the buff guy that he's, like, creating, right? Yeah, the sex dog guy that they sort of engineer. Ooh, a little meatloaf in that one, too, not playing meatloaf. Mm-hmm. Yeah, right. But he's very long. I know. I know nothing about Meatloaf's career, where, like, he did that role.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I was like, hey, maybe I'll just kind of do this for the rest. Kind of this stuck in the 50s sort of guy. Mm-hmm. I'll kind of come in on a motorcycle all the time. He's speaking about me. I got to show you guys, I got to show you guys streets of fire, which is a musical, sort of, it's not as musically,
Starting point is 00:03:42 but it's written by Jim Steinman, uh, Meatloaf's writer. Right, right, right. Like his, his tunes. Did he write it on a Stein way? I mean, really, at this point,
Starting point is 00:03:51 it's getting ridiculous. At this point, at this point, at this point, at this point, um, you know, here's my big idea is if we ever make
Starting point is 00:03:57 this sloppy boys movie, we have some like call and response type act along stuff, but we keep it really easy. So it's just like, oh, in this scene at some point, you're supposed to eat, some popcorn.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And then that way, if anyone does that, you're like, see, everyone's doing it. And you have a sip of Diet Coke every few minutes. And then you go to the lobby and you take a big piss. That's at the end of the song walking. I was like, we're going to go, piss. I've never seen that Rocky Horror in person. That seems fun. I would do that.
Starting point is 00:04:32 I would like to throw things around. At the theater. I have not seen it. I've not gone to a midnight screening, but I watched the episode of the Drew Carey show where they went to one of those. So I could pretty much answer any questions you have. Was that episode two and a half hours long? Yep.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Michael, were you about to say something? No, just that I'm wearing the Timmy St. Rock shirt that you threw away, essentially. Scandal Rock to the pod last week. Yeah, it did. But that was last week. This week's fresh. Now we're talking about me and my nice fitting shirt. It feels so good.
Starting point is 00:05:07 I'm going to work it out. So the next time you pop into Goodwill, Jeff, you walk down the t-shirt rack. It's all Jeff Merch. From your whole life. Childhood pictures, everything. I'm going to go in there next time you walk in there, Jeff, you're going to be going through the things. You're like, pull apart, and I'm going to be in there. Hey.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Wait, one. You want a shirt, Jimmy. Ooh, Jimmy needs a shirt. You jackass. You're like that guy. You're like that. guy. Yeah, what is that of Happy Gilbert? That's, what's his name? God,
Starting point is 00:05:41 I should know. Second City. Joe Flaherty. Yeah. It's that thing, Jeff. When you just said, God, I should know what I said, that made me go, yeah, I should know it too. What the fuck is it? We've talked about this before. I think we're on to a theory here that that's true. If you're told something is
Starting point is 00:05:57 hard to think of, you won't be able to think of it. The power of suggestion. That's why you should say, like, who's that guy in Happy Gilmore? His name is so easy to remember. I just can't for this one moment of time, but you should be able to get it. I'm not saying it now on account of I don't want to mobilize my thoughts. But I could and later I will.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Well, you guys want to get into some booze news? Booze news hit it. I got something to say about the patrons. Hit them with it. Fuck the patrons. Only putting $5 down. Might as well put my rush. and root on the ground.
Starting point is 00:06:40 The mini column who costs $20. I need four subscribers so I can fuck. Fuck. Fuck the patrons. Fuck. Fuck.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Fuck the patrons. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck the patrons. Fuck. Fuck the patrons. Fuck. Fuck the patrons.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Fuck. Michael. Michael. Fuck the Patrons was sent to us by Tom Hand, the hand job. And if you have a theme, email it's the sloppy boys podcast at gmail. com. Fuck the patrons.
Starting point is 00:07:07 They're the ones who pay the fucking lighting. Bill around. No, no, no. The hand man, the hand man got the hand man all wrong. See, that, that was supposed to be sort of a satirical song, the way, you know, Randy Newman says like, oh, let's bomb, you know, let's bomb everybody. Or short people. Even that song's short people. Yeah, you got to run in me. Yeah, well, that's, yeah. Well, Mike, you can't, you can't assume that our listenership is going to sort of follow the layers of that sort of thing. Oh, then they'll be missing out. I mean, then you're not really getting this. You can listen to this, but if you don't Look at the layers.
Starting point is 00:07:39 You're not really kidding. Folks, we should say before we play booze news themes, the views and opinions expressed in a booze news theme aren't necessarily held by the sloppy boys LLC. Yeah. I don't know if you guys have seen my Instagram feed, but I've been doing big text posts every day that's just like, don't do not. Whoa. Hey.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Every once in a while on any app, someone will be like, you have to post this so that the app doesn't own your stuff. Yeah, right. chain letter thing like, Mr. Zuckerberg, I hereby swear, solemnly swear that you can't have my baby pictures. All of these pictures belong to me and me alone. I'll never get off this app, never.
Starting point is 00:08:21 It's so funny my idea of like when I first got Instagram, it was just like, okay, everything I post has got to be just so and it's got to be the best version of the picture. And now you don't even think about your image being like on the internet ever. I don't think of it. I don't think of it even in terms of images anymore. If I see a still photo, on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Ugh, get this thing away from me. Where's the latest real? Yes, Jeff, but when you watch a video, are you not watching 24 still frames per second? Fuck! You're only saying that because you know that's true, Tim. Yep.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Film freak over here. What's the actual blues news? Okay, there was an article that caught my eye in New York Magazine, Grub Street, said, Why is every new restaurant a tavern? And they're talking about how of all the, they're talking about New York,
Starting point is 00:09:11 but it's elsewhere. An alarming number of them. Alarming. People are mad. This is the surgeon general's freaking out about this. No, a disproportionate number of the new restaurants opening are taverns with sort of a homey tavern theme,
Starting point is 00:09:31 rustic type food. We're talking roast chicken. We're talking beer. Oh, beans. Beans? Bean. A bean. The article mentioned one bean.
Starting point is 00:09:41 A small cauldron thereof? Yes. Yes. Mike, you're out there in New York. Have you noticed? Yeah. Yes. I cannot walk down the street
Starting point is 00:09:51 without hitting a tavern. All the businesses in my town have gone from coffee shops to tavern shops. No, I haven't noticed this is like a new thing, but I'll keep my eye out for it. So they were talking about a high-end restaurants and like kind of the reason is like, having, being up more approachable,
Starting point is 00:10:10 like a lot of these are like expensive, like hip chefs and expensive restaurants, but they, instead of trying to broadcast how posh they are, they're like, let's actually be approachable. And that rings true for L.A. We've definitely had some restaurant, like, I've noticed a lot of like hip, high-end restaurants having like comfort food and like, try our cornbread
Starting point is 00:10:29 or this is a British countryside type. So are the prices approachable, though? Or are they just like, no, no, we're still going to charge a lot for food, but there's going to be a cauldron of beans. That's not going to be a culture. Now, but we're sure about this caulder of beans, yes? You're really doubling down on beans at tavern.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Well, you know what it is the first place that sort of did this that I noticed was mess hall on Los Felos Boulevard. So it's, that's not like expensive, but it's more than it maybe should be. Sure. And they were really playing with the camp theme. Like you go
Starting point is 00:11:03 in and like one of the walls has like vintage lunch trays kind of tile on wall. Right. And it's like, except the name is still mess hall. They were like,
Starting point is 00:11:12 we're being a military mess hall. It felt like boy scoutish. And like the menu would be like, rations, you know, that sort of shit. And they pulled back on that because that did feel a little like, all right, we get it. I do really like that room though. Now they've like, they'll just try
Starting point is 00:11:29 whatever. Now they have like a cocktail menu that's like, old Hollywood. You know, this used to be the derby. So this is an old Hollywood menu. And they'll try whatever. And you know, a lot of those Hollywood people would have to eat it a mess hall if they were at summer camp. Well, this article about the tavern thing reminded me of there was one earlier this year about cozy maxing and that there was a rise in restaurants that were like decorated like grandma style.
Starting point is 00:11:54 It had a lot of chotchkes on the shelves. And I think what we surmised there was that it was a reaction to minimalism. Like Scandinavian minimalism has been dominant for so long. millennial gray. Yeah, let's just do the opposite. I wonder if this trend is something that like is going along with the season because you wouldn't have like, the what I'm picturing here is like you wouldn't have it in the summertime. Like these feel like fall and winter style places, right? Taverns sort of darker, wooden.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Cozy to me. Yeah, especially that cauldron with that hot lagoon in there. That's sort of just definitely a. Yeah, but I mean, what about in the summer when they have like cold or scooping you cold beans? Yeah, that's. Yeah, yeah, with an ice cream scoop. Okay, and then another piece of booze news theme that came straight out of my kitchen. You know how I invented the hit drink the Southern Sipper?
Starting point is 00:12:48 Yeah, one of the many hits, yeah. Yes. It's in that book, Kraft Cocktails Made Simple. By a Dollar General Stores. Mike has a drink in there, too. It's funny that old Duddy, old Duddy's drinks didn't quite make it over the bar. Juddy, I got a feeling with molasses and eel sauce. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:06 When that book was being written, I think that was the era of eel sauce molasses, Jeff, trying to break in a new ingredient into the world of cocktails. It's good shit, man. Look, and hey, that, that, well, it wasn't good shit, but that type of exciting stuff. I like that. It's dark, dank, sticky stuff. We know, we know you, dude. It's good for the cocktail building community, Jeff. That's what's good.
Starting point is 00:13:33 New thought, new thought. bean juice. You know? What just happened over there that you had beans on the brain? Did you eat some beans? Yeah, I watched that movie Bean Movie. Rocky Horror Bean movie? That Jason Alexander movie, Bean movie?
Starting point is 00:13:53 That feels like exactly the type of movie that would be called Bean Movie. Well, it's not Bean Movie with Jerry. It's Bean Movie with George. Go ahead, Tim. The Southern Sipper, invented by Tim Calpacchus. It was bourbon, peach schnops, and peychodes bitters. Well, I just had a major breakthrough where I invented kind of a new Gen Z version of it. I poured myself a whiskey and peach vibe Celsius.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Oh, you're getting zipped up? I'm getting zipped up. Now, does a Celsius already have alcohol in it, I forget. No. No. These are like Red Bulls, okay. It's got Tori, though. They're healthy, though.
Starting point is 00:14:38 They're healthier than Red Bull. And what did you think, Tim? It was delicious. It was a high ball, and it was peachy, and it was sort of like, I want to say, it's a Southern Cypress for someone on the go. So it's sort of a summer highball. Yeah. There you go. Now, I've missed summer.
Starting point is 00:14:57 But next year. Make it a fall highball. In L.A. We have Summer 2 right now. We're in the middle of Summer 2. Oh, yeah. It just sucks, though. Well, some or two sucks, but something like this could maybe get people excited about their lives again.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yeah, you have to be excited about your lives, folks. If there's one thing in your life that you got to be excited about, it's your life. It's it. That is it's it. Another thing to be excited about is September 16th of the Hollywood Palladium. The sloppy boys are opening for Starbomb. That's a 4,000 capacity venue, our biggest show to date. a giant leap forward for all of slop kind.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Slop kind, yeah. And then, of course, we're just done for the year, right? We've got no more shows for the rest of the year. Well, Michael. What? The year end celebration. December 29th, 30th, 31st. We're going to be in Boston, Brooklyn, Philly.
Starting point is 00:15:50 That's Rockwell Littlefield Milk Boy. Get your tickets now. It's the year end celebration time. Oh, yeah, baby. Love that shit. Love that for us. Is that it for booze news? Wrap it up.
Starting point is 00:16:05 That was some good booze news. Now it's time for a nice atumnal drink. The drink of the day, folks. A simple, standard whiskey ginger. You've had? Yes, I've had. I've had. I've had and look, off the record, I had two of them last night after I got my home for Red Lion.
Starting point is 00:16:32 But I feel like it's the one that I love. them, but I forget to order them. It's kind of a dive bar classic that's so simple, you don't even think of it, you know? Oh, I remember. I'm quite memorable, memorable on this one. Memorable. You are memorable. Now, wait a minute. What did you guys have last night at Red Lion that made you go home and say, well, I got to keep this going? Like, were you drinking whiskey leading up to that?
Starting point is 00:16:59 Bittberger. A beer, a beer, yes. I did a boiler maker thing and then some vodka soda. and then I did a stroin soda, which is that high liquor, high volume, high A, B, V. Yeah, we had one of those. A BV, baby. Beck Bennett told us about it,
Starting point is 00:17:17 and I get it every time I go there. But I was writing, I guess you could say I was visited by my muse, and I was writing last night, and I said, maybe I'll stay drunk. Wait, you wrote after you got a home? Late night writing when the muse visits. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Don't turn her away. Okay, Hemingway. You do not turn her away, Jeff. You invite her in. I should also say my muse is the band muse. Oh, that sucks. I just said you would invite it in. If your muse is a vampire, you would have to invite it in.
Starting point is 00:17:56 The world is a vampire according to one certain songwriter. Hey, you know, they say write drunk, edit sober, but Tim, I think you probably write drunk, edit, Published drunk. Published. Distribute. Hey, wait a second. We talked about best first line of a song recently and stuff. And then we even talked about the world is a vampire.
Starting point is 00:18:18 But I didn't even really stop and think. The world is a vampire. Yeah. That's stupid. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not. The world?
Starting point is 00:18:28 The world. The world. The world is a vampire. Purno, no, nao, no, no. Yeah, you're right. Think about it, Tim. Nobody's getting out of here alive, dude. It's going to suck your blood, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:41 The world, it should be that the world is a vampire's home. No, he doesn't mean the world like the planet, just like the idea of the world, the society, the workings of the world. All of it. It's going to drain your life. Every inch of it. Shit. Well, what about all my rage? Will that keep me from being a rat in the cage?
Starting point is 00:19:03 Oh, God. Nope. It will not. Tim, you got a lot. Why do you ask these stupid questions? You know it won't be. I got a lot to learn, but it's all just in that same song. All right, back to Whiskey Ginger.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Enough nonsense. Okay. So, pull up my little phone. The world is a vampire. This is an old drink. Nothing too crazy about it. What do you assume about it? It's probably correct.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I'm going to say that, Assume it like is in terms of its creation. What would you guess? I'm guessing like the 40s. A ginger ale company did it. Uh, push. What were you going to say, Mike? I was going to say it was made in the 40s.
Starting point is 00:19:49 No, this is prohibition era. So, you know, 1920s. And ginger ale fairly new thing. It's a sweet and spicy concoction and it's really good at masking subpar. Sure. Liquor. There you go. Um, Greta Garbo, though.
Starting point is 00:20:05 You know Greta Garbo. Coming up and see me sometime. I don't know if that's her. Is that her? No, that's Maine West. She was saying it to Greta Garbo. Well, Greta Garbo, I didn't realize she was a star from the pre-talkies. You're just looking at her.
Starting point is 00:20:23 And then she moves her lips and then the text comes on screen. Ah, the texties. That is until Warner Brothers Anna Christie in 1930 and her first spoken line, first spoken. First spoken line, she orders a whiskey ginger. Wow. Here you go. Here's Anna Christie. Here's Greta Garbo and Anna Christy.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Give me a whiskey. Ginger it on the side. And don't be stingy, baby. Well, shall I serve it in a pail? All that suits me down to be gone. Wow. Give me a whiskey, ginger ale on the side. And don't be stingy, baby.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Well, shall I serve it in a pail? Oh, that suits me down to the ground. A ginger ale on the side, huh? Yep. And then when she gets it, I thought she was going to go back and forth, sip selectively. Oh. She shoots that thing, and then she just sort of sits with the ginger ale.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Hmm. Hmm. But this was the drink that made whiskey ginger. It was a hit. It put it on the map, and it became kind of a classy drink. Not because it's classy in the scene. And it's just that like back then it was like, oh, it's in a movie. And movie, yeah, yeah, like movies are talking now.
Starting point is 00:21:38 They're the new thing. Interesting. Do you guys ever in your life, do you ever do the chaser thing or the back back? That's what that is. Yeah, it's specifically like a pickleback or like a Bandera shot or something. Right. Like when it's a, yeah, but I never, you know, people will be like I'll have a, like a whiskey with a ginger back. A lot of people do that.
Starting point is 00:21:58 I never think to do that. Although I was hanging out with a chef who had a Furnette Bronca, a ginger beer back, and that was a nice sip selectively situation. Ooh. That's good. Damn, that's good. You know what we need to do is the pico back. Remember I was telling you guys about the pico de gallo juice as a back?
Starting point is 00:22:18 Pico juice. Yeah. I got to say, I don't even really know if that's a real thing. Somebody just told me about it. Look into it. I'm going to make that my thing to do. Yes, we all have that thing to do. That one thing to do, that's going to be mine.
Starting point is 00:22:33 to look into that. All right. Here's how we make it. Build in glass. Ooh. Get a glass full of ice. Two ounces of whiskey. Top up as you see fit with ginger ale.
Starting point is 00:22:46 We're going ale. Yes. Not beer. I do have some beer. I might crack for round two. Now, isn't a whiskey ginger beer a different drink? Or is it? Well, I mean, depending on how you make it.
Starting point is 00:23:00 It could be a dark and stormy depending on how you make it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. We did something on the show that was called like a horse's neck or something like that. Yeah. And that started as a virgin drink and became a cocktail. Oh.
Starting point is 00:23:15 What's that got there in there, Galliano or something like that? I don't know, but did you know that I started out as a virgin? Oh, God. You started out as a virgin. Ew. Touched all the very first day. I don't know. The horse's neck is just a, has a lemon,
Starting point is 00:23:37 lemon peel in it. Yeah, wait, what the hell? Two ounces of bourbon or brandy or American rye whiskey ginger ale. So we've done this. We've done this. Folks, you can skip this one. Skip it.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Skip it. Everyone will see it next week. But I feel like, Jeff, you've been talking about this one a lot. It's been on your mind. Why is it just because of the autumn leaves are crisp? You know, because somebody on the Discord said, you guys haven't done a whiskey ginger.
Starting point is 00:24:02 It's my most made, drink, people are clamoring for a whiskey ginger. And I should have just said, go listen to a horse's neck. I think, like, leave us alone for a week and go listen to the horse's neck again. Also, we should have said we were doing whiskey ginger and just put out the horses neck episode. Now, wait a minute, Jeff. Have you been getting the, have you been getting these a lot? I make these pretty off. Okay. This is a common, this is a common drink for me.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Yeah. But also, I may, uh, sense, sense in mixology here, the garnish can change an entire drink. Give it a whole new name. I never see I guess I don't see a lot of horses next. I see a lot of whiskey gingers with a slice of lime with a wedge a line. That's what I would sharpen it up. That's what I'm going to be doing today. I would guess a
Starting point is 00:24:45 cherry too. That might be my round two a little cherry at the bottom. Kind of reminiscent of a Roy Rogers or a Shirley temp. Are you doing a high ball glass or a rocks glass? Noon rocks. It's funny because I normally see rocks, you know, just a quick
Starting point is 00:25:01 little from the gun. If you're at a drawing room, it's overflowing. And then well, in a highball. In a highball. And so I think I'm going to do highball because we've learned here on the show that having that narrow, narrow top of the glass keeps the bubbles
Starting point is 00:25:21 from escaping. It retains the gaseosity. If you have a wide malpractice glass, you're losing your gaseosity. Well, geez, but I might be down in this thing so fast, I don't need to lose too much gaseiology. Mike, I don't think we got to worry about it here on the show. No, not today. Why don't we go ahead and make these and we'll come back and keep blabbing and we'll do first sips?
Starting point is 00:25:45 I love that. Folks, we'll be back with more sloppy boys after this. We have on the bear! Hey, folks, we're back. Wow, look at that. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh, Timmy, on him.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I thought you were going to. and you went, ooh, and you went, ooh, yeah, that's a good one. That's like Anford falling asleep with his 3G glasses on and Avatar having his mouth open, so it looked like he was shocked by the movie. He was in awe for 20 straight minutes. I'm squeezing my big fat line.
Starting point is 00:26:34 Wow. Wow. Wow. The graphics. Wow. The graphics. The blue guy. Yes, ooh!
Starting point is 00:26:47 Here we go, sips. Sips. That's a classic drink. Yep. That's good. Jeff, you got a little lime in there. Very nice. Very nice.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Tim, did you put any garn in? I didn't garn, but I'll tell you what. This is, I love these two tastes, but then you put them together, most synergistic, indeed. Something happens that, It creates sort of a vanilla cream cream soda vibe, don't you think? Oh, I get that for sure.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I'm right there with you, Tim. In a way, like, I mean, I love ginger ale on its own, so I'd be fine if it didn't even have this magical alchemy. But I'll take it. It's delicious. And it's sort of, this feels like a year-round crushable thing. Because I was just thinking, I was going to be like, we were just talking about taverns and how fall is arriving.
Starting point is 00:27:41 This is the appropriate drink. We're doing this. We saved this for the autumn time because we thought it sounded so spicy and savory and nice. But this could be a hot summer night crusher and a springtime sipper and a Christmas morning miracle. I always think of if a liquor is sort of brownish, if a drink is looking brown, that's a fall time thing. A brown thing in the, brown in summer is no good. You want crystal clear. I think that you drink a Coca-Cola in the summer, a rum and diet. Shit. Run.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Get them out of here. Yeah. Yeah, that works. Shit, you're right. Um, hmm. Um, you know, when I was at, um, I mentioned on Pod, a few weeks ago I went to Chateau Lanes in Korea town, and they have a very funny, like, 70s, uh, cocktail list. And I was drinking all these weird ones.
Starting point is 00:28:39 They had the madras and the woo-woo and all that. They had a drink called. the Presbyterian that was the most needless drink ever. It exists. I've looked it up. But it was whiskey, ginger ale, and seven up. Ooh. You're splitting the mixer?
Starting point is 00:28:58 What's the point of that? The hell? I feel like, yeah, I don't think Seven Up and Ginger Ale, like, help each other at all. It just, like, it feels like it dilutes both. No, I mean, I drank it. it just tasted exactly like this. I mean, so many. What type of ginger ale did you guys go with?
Starting point is 00:29:21 I went with Signature Select. The Albuzen's store brand. Ooh. Me? I went with the Canada to dry. I wish I had a little badger here. Maybe round two I get a little badger. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Ginger beer. Oh, that's the good stuff. Because Badger does a ginger ale, right? I don't think I have any more. Do they ever? Do they ever? And a beer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:43 I got to get some more of those. These, this is good. I used a seagrams ginger ale. I got seagrams because I figured out maybe they'd know a little thing or two about using a ginger oil. Because they do gin. Yeah. Because, yeah, I bet like when the seagrams people who are making their ginger ale, they sneak over to the other room where the seagrams people are making whiskey. Hey, I got any tips on how it could go together?
Starting point is 00:30:06 Oh, yeah. Make sure it's bubbly because ours is not very bubbly at all. It's flat. And you don't put in that molecule. We'll put in that molecule. And then when they combine, that's when the alchemy will be there. Make the molecules from us then. Are you doing boron?
Starting point is 00:30:22 No, no, we'll do boron. No, you're boring. What the fucking is it all about? You, you, bitch. Say that to me. Oh, you're on the floor. Well, we said something funny on pod before we, before we. That happens a lot, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Well, before we came back in from break. Oh, that's right. Somebody said versus. Yep. Which we all know as, no, I think it was Timmy. I love geek shit. I'm a gamer man.
Starting point is 00:30:52 I'm going to Comic-Con. Yeah, he loves the game. Well, you dress it up for the can. But in Mario, there's many ways you can play. You fire up that game. And it's like, Mario's there. And you're like, yeah, Mario Grand Prix.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Or you do versus. And he goes, versus. Like, he's surprised that's one of the options. He's like, one and one. He's reeling that you picked, that you picked versus. He can't believe it. And so now anything that has that cadence to it gets said that way. Like, uh, with the other day, Colin Burgess came across my feet and I went,
Starting point is 00:31:28 Burgess. Burgess. Oh, you got, that's a good day when Colin Burgess, a comedian actor, Colin Burgess comes across your feed. That's why we have a feat, you know? I got a fucking, I got one of those. you know when you look on your Instagram feed and there's a green circle around somebody
Starting point is 00:31:44 because it's going to a select few. I saw a Colin Burgess birthday party that I couldn't attend because I was on the opposite coast. But still, you got to be there, dude. I love you, the Burge man doing his birthday. Sometimes I see a red circle around it
Starting point is 00:31:57 and I click on it and says distant friends. It's just like middle fingers. I tend to lose touch with. Yeah. I hope they don't even see this. You're being faded out, dude. You're being phased out. Well, I noticed, I saw that that Colin had close friends list.
Starting point is 00:32:15 He said, hey, I'm doing birthday drinks on his distant friends list. I said, nothing tonight. Stay home. Definitely don't be on the west side at this bar at this time. Yeah. Yep. No, that wasn't one of those. That wasn't one of those.
Starting point is 00:32:33 I was paying attention. Everybody calls me out for that now. Oh, I can't live it down. I need to come up with new things to say. when I'm losing interest. It's hard at middle age to reinvent like mannerisms and sounds in your very humanity that
Starting point is 00:32:52 it's hard thing to redo. Hey, I bet that happens a lot with the, you know, when welcome in started. I bet it was tough to get older people to start saying, welcome in. Welcome in? No, we've been saying hello, the for fucking our whole lives. Yeah. Or like the Catholic Church,
Starting point is 00:33:09 peace be with you and with your spirit. Yeah, what the fuck was that? Like Vatican 2 had changed the words. Fuck off. I like to go to proper Latin, Roman Catholic Mass. I don't want to understand the words. I want to hear Latin. The priest faces away from the clergy.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Yeah. I've been going to Pig Latin Mass. Oh, God. Oh. Isis J. A gay. Pig. Pig Latin is like the one that everyone knows is like the fake language. Are there other like fake languages you guys have ever heard of like?
Starting point is 00:33:47 Yeah. Spanish pig woman. What's the one it's like, giliabri-a-a-a-a-oh? Have you heard that one? No. That's one of like the girls used to do it in high school. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That does. I don't like that one. I don't like that either. They shouldn't have their own language. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Well, let's take it back to the drink. Delicious. delicious. I'm going to pound this. I don't like being hungover at all, and especially not when we're recording. Because the last thing I want to do. Your hair of the dog in.
Starting point is 00:34:22 But I don't buy that so much. Hair of the dog that licked you. Hair of the dog that licked you. Wow. Hair the dog that bit my nards, man. Yo! But do you guys think of hair of the dog as an actual technique? Because I truly this morning, I was like, I was so hurting when I woke up, I was like, oh, I'll just Google Hangover Cure.
Starting point is 00:34:46 And I'm like, Jeffie, you're a veteran at this sort of thing. You know there is no hangover cure. Don't you have one that's like drink coffee and go back to sleep and it, or no, eat a big sloppy egg sandwich and then go back to bed. All of my stuff is just like, yeah, a little food helps your stomach balance out. And like we talked about the best hangover cure on the blowout. Oh, were you hungover like throwing up type hung out? No, no, no, no. But just like there's kind of no way out of it. You're dehydrated.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Your body's punishing you. And I think the best thing I can do is just not be conscious. Like go back to that. There was another, there was an article in the New Yorker recently about hangovers. Like, we actually don't know what they are. It's weird because there's this, there's this whole industry of some of us know all too well, Tim. All too well. No, like there's a whole industry of, you know, like cheers pills you take and all kinds of
Starting point is 00:35:38 I see so much stuff on my Instagram being like, it's not actually alcohol that you're feeling. It's this other chemical. And we came up with the thing that subverts that. It's cortisol. You guessed it. Oh, no. It's always cortisol.
Starting point is 00:35:52 So this article in New Yorker was saying, like, science actually doesn't act. Like, we know dehydration happens, but like it's not just that because if you, you know, if you have a borg, there's plenty of water and you still get hung over it. And then there's this thing about acetyldehy. that's released in your blood and that it does do damage to you and stuff.
Starting point is 00:36:14 But like we like science doesn't really actually know exactly. Like we know that you drink alcohol and then this weird enzyme is released. And then the next day you feel bad like you, it's euphoric in the moment that I see feel bad. But like we don't actually, we can't really undo exactly what it is. I think the hair of the dog thing, it does work. But it's it's not a hangover cure. It's your kick in the can. kick in the can. And I feel like when I have, if I have a Bloody Mary, I don't, I want to make sure I don't get tipsy again.
Starting point is 00:36:44 I feel like I want like one ounce or less vodka in my Bloody Mary because I'm, and it's like a last resort. If I'm like nauseous and I have to get on a plane, I'll do hair or the dog. And I know that I'm not doing my body any favors, but I'm just buying myself out of like two hours of sickness. And like that is when I want to get myself back to that night before feeling, man. Yeah. Yeah. That was good. That's what things are.
Starting point is 00:37:08 That kind of is the idea, though. I think on tour getting on a plane is when it even occurs to me. I never wake up and I'm like, I need some hair of the dog. That's just not on the menu in my brain. But if we're on tour and we're like in a place where alcohol is plentiful and we're all sitting down and Tim gets a bloody Mary, I'm like, yeah, I'm going to have a bloody Mary or something. But in general, that's not like something that I resort to. Do you guys, I'm not a hangover guy, but do you guys remember New Year's this year? I had like the worst hangover of my life.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Mike, I was, I was sleeping in your place before I left. I was like immobile. I didn't know if you were like going to wake up for your flight. I was kind of like, because I was sleeping at my friend out of JFK. And I was like Ubering there. I kept thinking like I might have to have this Uber driver pull over and stuff. It was fucking crazy. I mean, I did have 200 drinks.
Starting point is 00:38:05 I had had three martinis at our 4 p.m. dinner. So, and then made it all the way to the ballroom. We entered you to that New Year's Eve drinking challenge. But I did in a panic, drink some booze at the airport that day to just be like, tried to make myself be okay for the plane. And it does, it did work. But then it kicks the can and then I was hung over for like the next full day after. Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Yeah, I mean, that that whole. trip did, I did have my first like two day hangover where it took me like a full day and a half before I felt like, okay, Jesus, I'm out of the woods. At that point, are you, are you just like, it's just like you're sick at that point? Like, it's like you're just, you've lost all your immunity and stuff. And you're just like, you are poisoning your body in a fun way. And then if you go too far, it's like, damn, I'm working through toxins here. Yeah. For the next time I get a hangover, I got a little trick at my sleeve where I got at this prescription for Zopran, which is a, I heard you don't mess with his ophrine.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Is that right? Sounds like he does mess with his ophrine. I do. When I went to Utah a couple weeks ago, I was very excited for the trip. And then like the day before I got like very, very, very nauseous out of nowhere to the point where I had to like lay down. And I thought I was like, oh no, is this that lettuce diarrhea disease?
Starting point is 00:39:27 But then that didn't happen. It was just nausea. No liquids shot out of either end of me. But I went to the earth. Just a little bit. Not even just a little thread. Just like a fishing line. No, so I went to urgent care.
Starting point is 00:39:47 And then I was like, I'm really, really nauseous. But I'm going to Utah in the morning. I get an early flight and I don't want to cancel my flight. And they're like, don't worry. Were they like, sir, sir, sir, wait a bit. Did you, were you looking at garbage pill kid cards by any chance? We recommend not doing that. day at this clinic has just been looking at garbage pigans.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Oh, so anyway, I got this Zofra and stuff. You put it under your tongue and just immediately you're not nauseous anymore. So I got a bunch of it from the pharmacy and I'm just waiting for a chance to use it. But listen to this. I think I found out why I got so sick. I was like deathly sick for like 12 hours. I had busted out my nut. C-PAP machine for the first time in year.
Starting point is 00:40:33 And I was like, I'm in the mood for a good snooze. Maybe I'll use the CPAP machine for the first time in many years. It's the snooze you can use. You got to pour some water into the machine. It has like a little water tray in it. And the tray says only use distilled water. And I said, yeah, right. I'll use tap.
Starting point is 00:40:53 And then I did it. And then I didn't think about this. But then like a week after this whole thing, I was like, oh, this was the day after I used that CPAP machine. And then I Googled, why do you need to use distilled water? And it's very interesting. Basically, tap water is full of bacteria and microbes.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Even bottled water, purified water, has these, like, has bacteria and microbes that, like, your stomach can handle shit. Your stomach has bile and, you know, stomach acid, and it's meant to deal with microbes. I mean, it deals with turds, essentially. It sets a stage for a turd. It sets the stage.
Starting point is 00:41:31 It doesn't deal with it. of the turds. No, no, it doesn't. No, no. If it's still a turd, you gotta get some help. You gotta go to that urge. You're right, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:41:40 It starts the idea. It's the stage for a turn. It's the, it's the blue sky session of the writer's room. Kind of teeing things up. But your lungs are not equipped
Starting point is 00:41:53 to get like water in them. So if there's bacteria and microbes in the water that gets in your lungs, you're going to get sick because your lungs have no system for, I guess as far as clearing air, we just have like our nose hairs,
Starting point is 00:42:06 and that's about all we got going for us. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'd be plucking those. Jeff. I was walking down the street the other day, and there's a house near me that's like, they're doing a full, just like gutting job. So there's a, you know,
Starting point is 00:42:20 trash can out front. And all day long, guys are just walking inside, getting, you know, handfuls of shit and throwing it outside. And every time I would walk by this, it was just like that half of the block just had like a cloud of dust around it. Like drywall dust and whoever knows,
Starting point is 00:42:37 these are old buildings, so who knows what the fuck? And I'm walking by it and I'm just like, I got to plug my nose or like hold my breath because I don't think these little nose hairs are going to keep all this asbestos out of my fucking head. Yeah, dude. But it is so funny to walk by a construction site and just be like, well, I'm sure the idea is that it's safe and, you know, toxicly safe, but I don't think anyone really knows.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I don't think anyone's really checking on this stuff. Totally. I mean, whenever they do like street construction, they're like, they're like sawing into the asphalt and there's just this cloud. And you see like half these workers are wearing a mask. Half aren't. They're breathing in like rock dust. And then even just.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Who's doing it right here? Even just like leaf blowers. You know, you see like people doing yard work or like leaf lowers, which I hate leaf lowers. But you see this yellow cloud of like pollen dust leaf shit. Yeah. I have to like hold my breath when I go through there. It's just like I get so clogged up with, I'm with it. Pollany allergy-ish type of shit.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Yeah, noads. I always love when a leaf blower person is doing it. And as I'm walking by, they stop and they realize, hey, people don't want to grass up with their nose. I like that. I give them a good nod. You know, hey, good looking out. They're like, yep. Yeah, Tim.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Hey, Tim, love your work, by the way. I thought you were, I guess, hey, good looking. Hey, good looking. Hey, not so bad yourself. Hey, speaking of the Zophran, am I saying that right? Yep. I thought you didn't mess with the Zofran. Well, I'm starting to think I might.
Starting point is 00:44:07 All right. I want to mess with the Zopran. Also, I thought you were going to say, have you ever gotten like the IV switching out the fluids? Never. No, I want to. I've done it, unfortunately, twice for the food poisoning. Oh, I was there with you for one.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Each of you have come to my aid during a bout of food poison. Yeah, you had a real bad bout of food. Were you conscious enough? to remember the feeling of the IV, you know. Absolutely. It felt like a magic spell. I felt like Dr. Strange swooped in, waved his hands in the air, and I was like, back to.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Dr. Strain. Back to reality. Dr. Strain. So I really think that the actual cure is what some nurses do, where you do it, you do an all night drunk and you go to work and you string yourself up one of those IV bags and you switch out all the fluids. And it's changed all those enzymes, you mean. Those enzymes you were talking about.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Those bad enzymes. Jeff, this is the pilot episode of ER. Cool. Mr. Cool, George Clooney is drunk and he comes to the ER and he gives himself an IV. And it's like, this guy's the cool guy. Does ER stand for enzyme room? Yes. That's weird.
Starting point is 00:45:19 That's fucking weird because they do everything in the emergency room. I know. It's really odd. Hey, we should do a blowout. Patreon.com. slash the sloppy boys, we should do a blowout where we, you know, in Vegas, they have these hangover spots where you sit in a lazy boy and get the IV done there. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Let's do it. I got spooked about like med spas and those times. I watched an episode of maybe John Oliver or something. Med spas murders. Wait a minute. Is that what your book's about? Yeah. You're like, guys, the last thing I'm doing is changing the title to med spa murders.
Starting point is 00:45:56 Say goodbye to elicit affair. What was it? What was your book title, Tim? Malicious intent. Melisius intent, that's right. Oh, illicit affair would be a good sequel, though. Elicit affair, a malicious intent novel. I get a hand for the work on that, like, spin off now.
Starting point is 00:46:14 I'll start working on that and just give it to you for a rewrite. That's a good blowout. We got to do that. We got to do that. Yeah, so let's go make a round two. What do you say? I don't know what to tweak. I kind of loved it.
Starting point is 00:46:25 I'm doing a cherry. I'm going to do a bigger glass because I want to chug so much ginger ale. I'm going to do a pine glass. Yeah. That's great. I also might make myself like a drawing room edition. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Nine ounces of booze and a pht. And just a whiff of mix. It's amazing at that place. A mix with. I'll get a high ball glass full of Frenet with a little. Coke on top and it's only 10 bucks. It's amazing. You and me and Mookie went there recently. We went to Rustic, had a great time at Rustic, but then that Rustic bill shows up, doesn't it? Every time that Rustic Bill shows up. Why are they got to do that? Why have it such a good time here? You got to ruin a good
Starting point is 00:47:11 time. And like, look, chicken wings used to be, I tell them this every time. Guys, chicken wings used to be waste. People used to throw them out. You're giving them a history lesson. I'm doing you a favor here. What do you take me in the cleaners? And then also, I get in there, I start drinking and those start adding up too. And now a night that should be, in my mind, I'm doing, you know, like, this should be $25. This should be $30. Bill shows up at Rustic. Suddenly, I owe my friend $70 or more.
Starting point is 00:47:42 What's that about? What's that all about? We hash that stuff out. And then me and Tim, Muker, like, yeah. We live that down. We were able to just barely. That's a conflict. We get through that.
Starting point is 00:47:58 And then as we're walking out, we're like, well, drawing room. And we go to drawing room and I got a Fernette and Coke. And that thing was Fernette. Coke. Just at the very top. And it was. One Coke bubble, please. Less than $10.
Starting point is 00:48:15 And I was like, why do we ever go anywhere? But, I mean, from the ambiance sucks at drawing room. But like, from a cost perspective. There's free food in the corner. Sometimes. Okay. In the corner. They will, and it's so funny because it's always the food.
Starting point is 00:48:31 It'll really be like stew or sloppy Joe. Caldron of beans? Caldron of beans. Nice and cold. That's probably your thing. Like, from a cost perspective, why would you go anywhere of a drawing room? But, yeah, damn. It's funny to get as much actual alcohol by volume at drawing room for $10 as you just had at Rustic
Starting point is 00:48:53 $4.70. Yeah. Rustics really turned into this, like, since I left, LA, it's really turned into this, like, bad service, expensive, popular hangout. But good wings, you got to admit. But good wings, got to admit. I do admit that from time to time. That much you admit.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Only after two whiskey ginger ails will I give that. The truth comes out. All right, let's make a second round when we come back. Final thoughts. Oh, my God. Round two. Shake his hand. Got me drunk, man. You got me smart.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Round two, Whiskey Ginger. For me, I chickened out on the drawing room version. I did put it in a big ass pint glass, though. And I would say this is equal parts. This is about three and a half ounces, three and a half ounces. Oh, boy, Jeff. Good night, nurse. But this is a nice slow supper that's going to take me through the blowout, the better show.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Ooh, nice. I know. I'm going to have to make a next one or another one. I did, I put a cherry in it and added some cherry, some of that cherry juice here to give it a little. Yes. One of the only people in the world I know that loves the cherry juice. And you know, that still counts as a whiskey ginger. I'll have a whiskey ginger, put cherries and cherry juice in it.
Starting point is 00:50:30 And by juice, I mean, mostly corn syrup. Well, basically, it kind of just looks and feels like when you get like the, uh, ginger ale that's like ginger ale with cherry or ginger ale with orange or something. I was looking for those. I couldn't fucking find any of. Well, it's like a dirty Shirley with
Starting point is 00:50:49 whiskey instead of vodka. Tim, your second round? I did a whiskey soda tall and a big old, still just two ounces of whiskey, but then I put a shitload of ginger ale to fill up a pint glass. I'll tell you what.
Starting point is 00:51:07 Whiskey really goes along way. And I was surprised that even with this many ounces of ginger ale, it still did that vanilla thing and I kind of don't taste ginger ale. It's still. And I got to say, I'm jealous. I wish I did what you did because I'm sipping this and I don't need all this booze. I came in on the pod being like, I don't need hair of the dog. Why am I making a super strong drink? You're still drunk. That's a problem. You're not making good decisions, Jeff. So your mind's not making good decisions. It's awful. There's not enough oxygen to get into that big brain ears.
Starting point is 00:51:43 Mm-hmm. Oh, I'm taking tips. It's good. But, man, it hits different when you're at drawing room. You've already had a night. Somebody can give you a super strong drink and you're like, you're down. Right now, I'm still kind of taking off. I don't need three and a half ounces of bourbon.
Starting point is 00:52:04 What bourbons do you, what do you guys use? I got my bullet. That's good. I did a royal crown. Very nice. Very nice. Ooh. Crown Royal.
Starting point is 00:52:14 I should have used something cheap, but I used Campfire Bourbon, which is like a nice, that nice tall bottle. Well, I've never heard of that before. Not okay. High West, High West. High West also has one called Campfire. But High West Bourbon. I was going to use Johnny Walker Red, but that's Scotch. Is it not?
Starting point is 00:52:37 That's a different flavor. I'm not looking for. You're allowed. You're allowed, but. Has anyone done scotch and ginger? That's got to be something, right? I'm sure that's named something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:48 But the idea of, I don't buy red label. I don't know why I have this red label, but people say like, use black label if you like the taste of Johnny Walker Black, use red label if you're mixing drinks. So I thought this was a good opportunity to use red to make a mixed drink. But then I saw a scotch. I was like, I don't want to introduce any scotchy bullshit into this. Yeah. I, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Is that, is it like, is their red label like a band-aity, scotchy taste? Not in the way that people that like the peaty band-a-tie taste would go. I always forget that word. But, but yeah, a little more than like a nice clean bourbon. Now, is Johnny Walker blue their like expensive high-end brand? Yeah, you don't got to worry about Johnny Walker blue, Mike. No, I don't. That's not for me.
Starting point is 00:53:34 You don't worry about that. That's on the high shelf. How much is that? You can't reach that shelves, dude. There is that a step stool big enough for you, young man. Remember I was at the Emmys after party and it was open bar and I was like, I have a Johnny Walker on the rocks and they go black or blue? I was like, what the fuck do you think?
Starting point is 00:53:57 I'll take the one that's from the $300 bottle. Get over here. What the fuck do you? This is why you're bartendering and I'm here. at the party, you understand. Hasn't worked since. You see.
Starting point is 00:54:15 I feel like a true detective season two, like when it started to get bad. Season true. But there's a, yes, true detective's season true.
Starting point is 00:54:26 There's a scene between Vince Vaughn and somebody else and they're just like sipping on a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. Remember this? Yep. They're at a bar,
Starting point is 00:54:34 pass him back and forth. Pass him back. A bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. I said, Jesus Christ, that's expensive. This would be a good time to revisit that shitty season. I bet that that would be a fun. I didn't watch that one again.
Starting point is 00:54:44 I just watched one again. It's fucking great. It's great. It was pretty wild. It gets really nasty, dark, like psychotic at the end. Don't tell me anything because I might watch it again. I'm learning that like one of my favorite film genres, Tim, you're going to want to block your ears. Al-lal-lal-la.
Starting point is 00:55:03 is like supernatural detective movies where it's like there's there's hardcore procedural stuff going on yeah yeah something a foot that violates it what's another like is that a oh like seven has a seven has a little bit twin peaks has a little bit exorcists especially the book it's funny because it's like what would be the whole selling point of the detective genre is that it is like facts are put together. So it is funny. I mean, weirdly, I love Twin Peaks. And like a little dabble do you
Starting point is 00:55:40 on the supernatural stuff. But yeah, I mean, it's funny that Twin Peaks, you're following a mystery, but it's a mystery based on mysticism and a bunch of... Yeah, it's funny to do a mystery on like, you know, stuff that doesn't exist because you can be like, well,
Starting point is 00:55:54 it was this guy because he knew the spell. Nobody knows. Nobody knows a spell. Have you seen The Whaling? That's another one. Or a cure? is another, these are like Asian horror movies that are, oh, Neil Campbell would be proud.
Starting point is 00:56:08 These are the hardcore fucking. Campbell's corrections? Oh, I hope so. I would love to Campbell, correct us. Give us some more. Give us some more foreign horror, supernatural detective movies. Ooh, you know what we should do for this,
Starting point is 00:56:23 this October is have Campbell, Neil Campbell of Campbell's corrections. Suggest for us like a deep, like a Japanese horror movie or like, Because every year he puts together a pretty nice list for us to watch. Neil's a hell of a curator for a horror fest that we've done year over year over year. And I feel like this year might feel a little different. Maybe it's in, we take it into the digital realm or we do a podcast version of it or something. That'd be cool.
Starting point is 00:56:51 I wish everything was in the digital realm. These days it kind of is. Well, you're chronically online, of course. Yes, I need to touch grass. You're chronic line. I need to touch grass. Hey, we should... What's wrong?
Starting point is 00:57:07 We should do... Tell what's wrong? Ho! I didn't touch grass today. Oh. Oh, ho! Damn. Yeah, that's a different, very, a very different ho-ho-ho. It's not your, it's not your grandmother's ho-ho-ho.
Starting point is 00:57:21 Yeah, it's not even... Oh, Grandma loves Santa, didn't she? Oh, man. There is a good blowout, I think. Yeah, grandma's down bad for Santa Claus. She's looking for a man her age. I've only had a salad and some smoothies all day. Some smoothies.
Starting point is 00:57:43 I've had a lot of smoothies today. I'm making the room. I feel like the drink snuck up on us three in the last five minutes. It's sure. This is going to be a good blowout today. Wait, wait, wait. I have a good blowout pitch. Maybe we talk about this.
Starting point is 00:57:56 It doesn't matter. I'm saying it now. Do it now. The sloppy boys touch grass. 24 hours, no phone. Ooh. How will we record our little real to real tape? You'll have to go to your laptop for that. But see, here's the thing. I could see Tim tense up. I said no phone and he went,
Starting point is 00:58:17 his anus tightened by near millimeters, but I could tell over the Zoom. How will I keep up on everything going on with this Iran conflict? Tim, come on. You can go one day without hearing every update. No, I can do it no problem. Easy. That's not hard at all. 24 hours. Oh.
Starting point is 00:58:38 Like, it's just like if it's like a day, what if, what if some like family emergency happens or something, you know? Yeah, right, right, right. Well, yes, I did think about that. I was like, we should check in on our parents and make sure they're in good health on Saturday night and then do it all day Sunday thing. Yeah, let's do that.
Starting point is 00:58:56 That's a good idea, Jeff. But especially Sunday, like, we'll do the Weigr method. Because nothing's going on. on Sunday. Yeah, I'm in church all day anyway. Hey, we'll do it on a Super Bowl Sunday. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:09 I mean, I don't need my phone. Then I'll be locked into the game. I was sort of trying to make it more of a thing like, I don't want to watch the Super Bowl or anything about it. You don't. Jeff, dude, that's what I keep saying every year. You go to these Super Bowl parties and you're so upset. Jeff, just take that day off.
Starting point is 00:59:28 Oh, hey, wait. Let's give our final thoughts. Oh, and end the episode. Let me say this. This drink is good. This drink is, to me, a stone cold classic because it fits in this realm of the blank and blank, which we've been doing a lot lately with the crayon and vodka. We did another one that I can't think of.
Starting point is 00:59:51 And I... Ham and cheese. Cheese, the... Turkey and Swiss. Turkey and Swiss. Peanut butter jelly. My point, of course, is that this is very good. It's an order again.
Starting point is 01:00:05 It is a Stone Gold classic. And I've been enjoying doing these drinks, the blank and the blank. This summer I have been doing more of the vodka crayons and the gin and tonics and the Roman Cokes. And it's been really working out for me. It feels, remember at the beginning of the episode, I said, oh, this feels like a fall drink. Let me amend that. I think a blank and blank drink feels like a good summer drink, a quick drink. Not a you got to do this and then you got to put a little fire on the rim and make sure.
Starting point is 01:00:34 that the spruce is just so and all the things. Yeah, and I feel like in the hot summer, you don't want a lot of ingredients. Yeah, it's like make it quick, or throw me a brusky or a Celsius or a, hey, give me a quick this and that quickly. But in the autumn, everything must be just so. You've got time to slow down.
Starting point is 01:00:54 You're slowing down. Hey, slow down. So yes, it's Oregon from Easton Cold Classic. Tim, your thoughts? Order again, classic dive bar go-to, but this, I'm having a realization now that this might open the door for me getting doing the back. I might next time I'm at the drawing room say, give me a whiskey on the rocks and can I have a ginger back? Just because I like ginger ale and this is making my ginger ale taste like a cream soda when I want to taste that gingery, gingery ale. This is good.
Starting point is 01:01:29 Wow, Tim's getting into backshots. Okay, Jeffie thinks that. Jeff, you are chronically online, and unfortunately you're on the wrong side of online. Come on, I'm Gen Z, dude. Well, wait, man. Okay, it's an order again. It's a Stone Cold Classic. Two of the three of us have said that.
Starting point is 01:01:48 Tim, did you call it a Stone Cold Classic? Sure. That's three for three. Damn, that's good. Sure. Yeah, it's a this and that. Mike, you nailed it. It's simple.
Starting point is 01:01:59 It's a staple. I do these all the time. I'm trying to think, is there a better one? when we were talking about the emergent property of the vanilla, the vanilla spice, I was like, yeah, yeah. There is something like the ginger ale completes the whiskey. The whiskey completes the ginger ale. And I haven't had a feeling like that since my beloved Furnett and Coke.
Starting point is 01:02:22 This might beat my beloved Furnet and Coke. But like, you know, Coke is too sweet. Frenet is too weird and bitter. I love Furnet now, but I remember when I first had it, I was like, Jesus Christ, people drink this. Nope, Frenet and Coke is better than this,
Starting point is 01:02:38 but this is maybe, this is S-tier mixed drink, Stone Cold Classic. It will live on forever. It will, it shall outlive us all. Damn. Well, Tim,
Starting point is 01:02:52 were you paying attention to my final thoughts? Are you? Yeah. And I was going to say that your final thoughts they were about the whiskey ginger, right?
Starting point is 01:03:01 Yeah. of course, yeah. So you've heard of the whiskey ginger. Yes. But have you heard of the ginger quiz? Goom. No. Mike has not heard of it.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Jeff, have you heard of the ginger quiz? I've heard of it. Okay. So you've never actually played it, but you're just like familiar with it. Mm-hmm. Okay. It's the ginger quiz.
Starting point is 01:03:28 I'm going to ask you questions and you have to answer them. Question one. Who? L-O-L. This guy is a big Comedy Store comic. Carrot.
Starting point is 01:03:42 Nope. Oh, Anthony Santino, the Cheetos. There you go. Andrew Santino. The angry Cheeto, do they call him that or something Cheeto? No, you're thinking of Donald
Starting point is 01:03:58 J. Trump. Next question. Ginger quiz. That's not really my comedy scene. Tim, go ahead. Vavavum. You know she played Joan on Madman.
Starting point is 01:04:11 Oh, Tim. This person's name is... It's hard to remember, Mike. Mike, it's hard to remember. Jessica Chastain. Jessica Chastain.
Starting point is 01:04:22 Christina Hendrix, thank you very much. There you go. Fuck. Now I can't be... Jeff. That's good. I can't...
Starting point is 01:04:30 I can't... I can't... I can't. I can't believe. So I crossed up Christina Hendricks and Jessica Chastain, huh? I think that's very natural to do. They are very similar-looking. And Busty, right?
Starting point is 01:04:42 That's none of my business. I'm only from the neck up. That's not my business. That's not my business. Next question here on the Ginger Quiz. The dog days ain't exactly still happening, but this British indie rocker simply loves her machine. Florence. Florence.
Starting point is 01:04:59 Florence, Jeff gets it. Next question here on the ginger. She does love that machine, doesn't you? She'll give us something to talk about all right. The Amber Hugh of her all right. Bonnie Ray. Bonnie Ray Michaels on the board. Next question.
Starting point is 01:05:18 Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me on this. Pancake man. Pancake man. What the fuck? Gingerbread man. Pancake man. Pancake man.
Starting point is 01:05:28 Man, that's a New Hampshire bullshit. That's a New Hampshire thing, man. I don't know about that. Pancake man. Pancake man with molasses. No, I take it back. Tim, the answer is Lola. Stop.
Starting point is 01:05:42 The answer is gingerbread man and Mike got it. What do you know? It's pancake man. Hold on. They were too late in the episode for hold-ons. Come on. This is gingerbread man. No, no.
Starting point is 01:05:54 I'm going to win this quiz. Hold on. No. Pancake, man. This is a weird backwoods New Hampshire thing. Nope. I'm going to find it. Nope.
Starting point is 01:06:07 He's looking on the New Hampshire internet. If this is one of those, what's it called? It's fake history. Mandela event. Oh, God. Okay, so there is a Pancake Man book. But did he say running as fast as you can? You can catch him.
Starting point is 01:06:27 You can. Yeah, because he's a pancake. He's easy to catch. Oh, the pancake. It's easy to catch. Okay. Next question on the ginger quiz. Okay.
Starting point is 01:06:42 He's in love with the shape of her. Ed Shearin. Ed Shearin. Next question. This snowboarder's last name may describe his race. Sean White. Sean White. this is jeopardy rules where you say if you just say the last name you get it Jeff I mean
Starting point is 01:07:05 I disagree I disagree I disagree Jeff you have to say the whole name Jeff gets it what the hell wait wait I'm looking at Google images the pancake man can't be stopped you can't stop the pancake man who cares about stopping him we want to catch him is it still is it like a part of the rhyme though like you can't catch me I'm the or you can't I don't care about pancake man anymore. Stop, pancake. Stop, cried the mother hen. Oh, no, called the pancake.
Starting point is 01:07:32 The big round cook and the six little boys can't stop me. The old woman can't stop me. And you can't stop me. Okay. Now, Jeff, do you think it would be weird, though, if the answer in the ginger quiz was the pancake man? Tim, I am impressed that Jeff has been looking this up and figuring out, but still answering questions correctly. that's very good.
Starting point is 01:07:58 He's very good. Okay, next question here on the Ginger quiz. On the court, he dribbled balls. Off the court, he enjoyed the works of Jerry Garcia. Oh, his name is Bill Walton. Bill Walton. What the fuck does that have to do with Ginger? He's a ginger.
Starting point is 01:08:22 He had red hair. He's a red hair. Jeff, I got to admit that was stacked against you. It was not only a sports question, but a grateful-to-ed question as well. I told you to watch ESPN and listen to re-listen. But, Jeff, this next question is your wet dream. Mega man. These two actresses are often confused for each other.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Jessica Chastain and fucking Christina Hendricks. No, Jessica Chastain and... Ooh, Jessica Rabbit. Wait, what? Jessica Chastain is often confused with a specific actress who is not Christina Hendricks. Oh shit, man. Her name is. I'm at a loss.
Starting point is 01:09:07 She was the lady in the water. Amy Adams. Oh, I don't confuse them, though, Tim. I don't confuse them. They're very famously confused. Bryce Dallas Howard. There you go. Jeff gets it.
Starting point is 01:09:22 I guess I just don't share the same confusions as the common man. Wow. Yes, the common man confuses Chastain and Hendricks, and you confuse gingerbread man and pancake. We all have our confusion. We all have our modern confusions. Next question. Might be a good name for our album.
Starting point is 01:09:46 Modern confusions. Maybe, Jeff, you get to work on... Well, that'll be part three. Okay, next question. Convenient that her name. name would be this because audiences want more Julianne. More. And Julianne Moore.
Starting point is 01:10:04 Jeff gets it. Nice, Jeff. Five five. It's tied five five, a high scoring game of five five. Can I guess is this the last one? No, there's three more. Okay. Oh, God.
Starting point is 01:10:19 I've seen her once at the polo lounge, although she was also in Mean Girl. I mean. Lindsay Lohan. Yes. Loan. Jess. Lynn. I met her once at the Dresden, although she was also in EZA.
Starting point is 01:10:39 Emma Stone. Jap? And just to close it all down, she's such a Miranda. Miranda. Oh, her name is, for all the points. To the Nixon. But is that all for, but is that for all the points, Tim? Here's for all the points.
Starting point is 01:11:02 A ginger you didn't even ask a question about ginger spice. Oh, shit. Give me the quiz. Give me the quiz. It's a tie. It's a tie? It's a tie. With all our weird, with all our weird points and stuff.
Starting point is 01:11:19 Yeah, because Mike got Cynthia Nixon and then he needed one more and he said ginger spice. So now he tied. You guys, you both win. You tie. Jeff, say a red-haired guy, you might win. Oh, uh, br-br-e-a-e-a-gleason. Jeff wins the ginger quiz. Wins?
Starting point is 01:11:39 wins. You'd be sick of winning. That's our show. Follow us on social media at the sloppy boys, where we release these recipes ahead of time. And if you can't get enough boys, patreon.com slash the sloppy boys, that's where you support independent artists. and the good way of doing things, not the new shitty bad AI slop way of doing things.
Starting point is 01:12:03 We love you, folks. Thanks for coming out. We'll see you next week. Peace.
