The wheel is back and this time with a DC Comics flair! The catch is that the wheel has 30 names on it and will only be spun 20 times and they can only bid on whoever the wheel lands on. Who will land... on Batman?! Will Jon and Dylan know who anyone is?! Join Corey, Dylan, and Jon as they spin the wheel and build their own Justice League.

Starting point is 00:00:00 Oh, he wrote that song about somebody else, and then whenever Princess Dye died, he used it again, and now everybody thinks that's what it was for. But it was about Marlon and Monroe originally. Yeah, it was about somebody, like, he wrote that song like 10 years before that and nobody listened to it. And then somebody else died, they all just do it again. I thought it's kind of a scumbag if you think about it then. Out of the people we've just talked about, do you think he's a skimbaug like? Starting point is 00:00:28 My name is Corey. and we're talking about how Elton John's a scumbag, apparently. How much of that will be keeping in? A good bit. It's a mystery. Yeah, that's true. If you listen to this show and it starts off with Corey saying, hello, welcome to Smart Avengers.
Starting point is 00:00:44 You missed like half an hour. We cut out a bit. Yeah. Yeah, no, well, the last time we did one of these, it went on for a very long time. So, you know. No. Everybody, welcome, Smart Avengers.
Starting point is 00:00:59 This is Corey Dillon and John, and we're going back to, I think, one of our favorite things to do on the show. And that is we're going to have an auction. Our last auction, I think, was in December. And we ended up doing Spider-Man villains to make our own Sinister Six or what have you. It was a bit of a chaotic one, if you want to listen to that one. It was fine. The way I recall it, everything went off without a hitch. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Nobody, you know, sabotaged somebody else's. deal. Why would any of us do that to each other? We're all friends here. Exactly. Everyone got who they wanted to pick. Technically, yes, everybody got who they wanted to pick. The circumstances were just the circumstances.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Some people just have to really pay through the fucking nose for it. And other people didn't respect some people's deals that they made. But that's fine. It's fine. All right. So in line with that, we're going to be doing another auction. and we're bringing back the wheel of names so that, you know, it's going to be,
Starting point is 00:02:03 the order is going to be completely random. And this time, if you're watching on YouTube, you're going to actually get to see the wheel spin. I will tell you right now, I'm going to turn the sound off on the wheel because it was getting really, it's a real mess to have to hear the clicking and then us talking at the same time.
Starting point is 00:02:19 You coward. Yeah. Yeah, the fake cheers on top of us talking. We're also a little rough. Fake. Yeah. That's the audience, isn't it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah, the audience. Like, right over in front of the camera. You know? So this is what's going to make this auction a little different than the previous ones. We've auctioned X-Men. We've auctioned supernatural characters. We've auctioned Spider-Man villains.
Starting point is 00:02:46 We're going to be doing an auction that's going to be more geared towards me, unless John and Dylan so much. We're going to be auctioning and drafting, creating our own Justice League team. Dylan, John, what is your familiarity with the Justice League? Oh, Batman and Wonder Woman. And Superman. Did you, did any of you guys watch the, there you go? Any of you guys watch the Zach Snyder slash Joss Whedon movie?
Starting point is 00:03:16 Unfortunately, yes. I won free tickets to see that movie. So I had the satisfaction of walking out going, at least I didn't pay for this. I mean, the Snyder version was on Netflix as well. Oh, that was on Max. Oh, I'm pretty sure we got it. Was it on Netflix? Or maybe it was on now TV over here?
Starting point is 00:03:42 Either way. Like, I didn't go to the cinema and pay money to watch it. All five and a half hours of it. Oh, God. It was so long. Yes. So. It's so good, though.
Starting point is 00:03:53 No. No. There was also in the 90s and 2000s, there was a Justice League cartoon that was in the Bruce Timverse, so taking place in the same universe of the Batman the Animate series. So some cross-promotional of the stuff there with Kevin Conroy. But what is your familiarity with the Justice League as comic book characters? Have you ever read a Justice League book? No. I know Dylan, I know you're a big Grant Morrison person. I've been. would recommend taking a peek at Graham Morrison's Justice League because he was gifted the iconic characters but he put his own like twists and spins on them as Grant often does. Justice League. Yeah. He had a long run
Starting point is 00:04:39 on Justice League. Here's a fun thing that I'll do on the camera right now. We were talking about Graham Morrison not that long ago. Yes. I hadn't actually read like a whole lot of other Grahamar's stuff other than the X-Men. The other day I was in Waterstone's bookshop.
Starting point is 00:04:55 And they had All-Star Superman for sale. Oh, there you go. And I bought that. You can see, it's very small, very compact. But I saw I read it. And it's actually, get this, really good. So I was looking at the back to see if they, because at the back they advertise other comics.
Starting point is 00:05:10 And like maybe the, maybe that Justice League ones in here. It is not. But Superman and the authority is in here. So. Yeah. That's something to look forward to. Superman, the authority.
Starting point is 00:05:23 That's a more recent book. I don't know. Well, why isn't the Justice League in there? I don't know. Rude. A little bit. So, we're going to handle it the same way we did last time. There are 30 character names on our wheel.
Starting point is 00:05:37 We're only going to spin the wheel 20 times. So there's going to be some characters that may or may not make the cut. Some of them very iconic characters. Some of them characters that even I don't know a ton about just because I thought, well, technically they were a member of the Justice League. Now, mind you, I am focusing. on the actual Justice League. I'm not doing Justice League International.
Starting point is 00:05:58 I'm not doing Justice League Task Force or Justice League Europe or Justice League Dark. Mainly underwater Justice League. Justice League in space. I was going to be space by left alone. Justice League Odyssey was a book that did
Starting point is 00:06:17 take place in space. So technically there was Justice League space. I should have thought about that because I could have about Azrael on the list. I don't think about these things. No. So the rules of this are simple. Everybody has 100 pounds to their name.
Starting point is 00:06:30 We go pounds, not dollars, because John and Dylan outnumber me, and we use their currency system. Plus, the way our economy is going in America, you're probably going to have more value than mine. Hey, just don't ask how our economy is going, and we'll just continue. Yeah, fair enough. Fair enough. So, yeah, that's kind of the rules of the game.
Starting point is 00:06:51 We start the bidding at what we start. we go until someone pays more than everybody else is willing to do. It's an auction. It's not that complicated. We'll make it complicated. I'm sure we will. All right. So, let's get to the wheel real fast.

All right. Our very first person on the list is Catwoman. Catwoman was a member of the Justice League in the new 52 era. So we should be back on looking at the three of us on Skype.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And real quick, we look at two of us, really. Yeah. I'm sorry, you know, I'm not having nothing to look at. So under the costume alias of Catwoman, Selina Kyle is a. cat burglar with an on again, off again, romantic relationship with Batman. She has shown as a woman who is very strong-willed, independent, and morally dubious. She has appeared in 3,601 issues of the comics, and she first debuted in, what issue did she debut in? Batman, number one, the legend of the Batman, who he is and how he came to be semicolon, the Joker.
Starting point is 00:08:51 It's quite a mouthful. A little bit. It was a bit of an anthology book, and it came out in 1940. So she's been around for a while. So things to know about Catwoman. She is, of course, a master thief. She is an escape artist. Her costume is aligned with claws. Just generally a fun character.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Her Marvel equivalent for you, of course, is Black Cat. But I shouldn't have to tell you about Catwoman because she's kind of an iconic character. She's a cat. And a woman. So. Dream scenario for anybody, isn't I? Does anyone want to take the big catwoman for one pound? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:12:39 who is able to channel the power of any animal that has walked or evolved on earth through the mystical object given to her by her ancestor the god an Anansi called the Tantu Totum she has been around for 915 issues and she first appeared in cancelled Comet Cavalcade number two. That's not a good sign.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Which came out in 1978. So yes, she has the ability to basically have the abilities of any animal that she chooses. So she can like have agility like a cat. She can have a sort of a, she can produce claws, she can change color, you know, basically, is there, well,
Starting point is 00:13:29 is there an equivalent to that in the Marvel world? Craven a little bit has, like, sort of, well, I guess it's more, like, heightened, like, kind of animalistic style. Yeah, I don't think there's anybody that can replicate. Oh, wasn't there somebody on, um, Alpha Flight that could turn into animals?
Starting point is 00:13:53 Who was it Aurora? Who was the woman on Alpha Flight that could turn into like different animals? I don't know if she could turn into every animal. And also I don't know if this character exists. I might have this male. Vixen, yeah. To Vixen, she's got to look to her. I think she's been in Smallville maybe.
Starting point is 00:14:13 I want to say she's been in a television show. Yeah, I think she may have popped up in Arrow or one of those shows. A CW show for sure. definitely CW sure sure they love putting vixins in their shows there you go so we anyone want to take her for one pound absolutely

Starting point is 00:17:17 vibe is fun. Now, vibe did show up in the Flash TV show, so John would probably know Vibe from that. Oh, yeah. Yes. I will tell you, yes, I will tell you, Vibe got treated way nicer in the Flash show than he did in the comics. Vibe was a member of the Detroit City gang called the Lobos. When the Justice League moved to Detroit, he became a member. His new 52 incarnation is selected for the JLA because of his unique vibration and potential interdimensional abilities. vibe has appeared in 222 issues and he was debuting in I believe DC sampler number two
Starting point is 00:18:02 which they covered with which was 1984 vibe has basically the ability to vibrate take that with what you will but yes he's able to he has vibration waves he's stealth he has a blast power and vibe very famously died in issue number 258 of Justice League when he was fighting a villain called Dr. Ivo was revealed that Dr. Wadnick. Yep, Dr. Ivo was revealed to you actually have been an Android version of him. His hands detached and strangled vibe to death. That does sound quite like what Dr. Wadnick would do. Mm-hmm. So do we have any bids for vibe? I'm going to be totally honest for you, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Yeah. Me and John don't know who this guy is. I do. Well, John knows. Okay. In my honest opinion, I don't think you've sold them on us at all. Well, you say that, but Catwoman is very keen to have vibe on her team. I can't imagine.
Starting point is 00:19:17 What? Why would that be? She just digs his style, that's all. I don't think she even knows she even exists. I think what you're thinking about is she's trying to like break into the bank and then he uses his vibration parts to like shake the walls and like knock the wall down and then she climbs into the wall into the bank that way. That's what you mean, right, John?

Again, John probably knows him best because of the C.W. show. However, all of us know about the Flash because very famously, our first ever try to kill a character was trying to kill the Flash, where we spent about an hour and a half talking nothing but all of his weird bullshit powers.
Starting point is 00:24:08 So... In like 20 minutes, like 10 minutes talking about how we kill him. I think we're all burnt out at that point. Just hit him on. Barry Allen, having discovered his mother murdered and his father blamed for the act. Forensic scientist Barry Allen sought to clear his father's name and find the real killer. After being doused in chemicals and struck by lightning, Barry was granted the gift of super speed. Now he protects his hometown of Central City as the Flash, the fastest man alive, and founding member of the Justice League.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Barry Allen first appeared in the 100 comic monthly number three. Notice none of these so far have just been Batman. number two or something. This came out. Crinkle dinkle number 48. Like, what the fuck comic is this? This is from 1956. And Barry Allen has appeared in 5,268 comics.
Starting point is 00:24:59 E. That's the moose so far, right? I think so. Way, twice as many as vibe. That's a lot more twice as many. I think vibe was under, it was like 222. Yeah, five is like seven. All right. Before we get into it.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Okay. He, his mother died, his father got framed for it. And he's like, I got to solve this mystery. And then he got zapped by chemicals and lightning. Did he solve the mystery? Yes, he did. It was revealed that the real murder of his mother was Eobard Thon, aka the reverse flash.
Starting point is 00:25:32 I told you, John. I told you that's who it was. Yeah. Went back in time as a basically to ruin Barry Allen's life. We would, I mean, I would do that. And I'm sure we all saw the movie. movie Flashpoint with the great non-controversial actor as Re Miller. I did indeed see that.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Oh my God. I'm so sorry. I mean, Michael Keaton was fun as Batman again. I feel like that's all the advertising needed to show. Michael Keaton was fun as Batman in the two Batman films he was in. Yes, this is true. All right. Let's start a bidding.

Starting point is 00:27:19 can't do? Oh God, don't get into this again. Can he read people's minds? No, he can't read people's minds. But he can run fast. Yeah. He's not the fast... I will tell you this, he's not the fastest flash. That's Wally West.
Starting point is 00:27:35 But he's not on the list of fuck him. Yeah. So you're getting the second fastest flash. But we're getting the fastest person on this wheel. yes well yeah no i think he and superman are a tie so tied by superman yeah why i just keep all my money for superman then that's why aren't you ahead in the bidding i'm no i think i am i bid nine i'm like i'm way behind um no 10 uh sorry so like oh it's just so funny to hear sean just like Yeah, aggravated by it.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Oh, God. Why would you just give me the things I want for little money? That's how this works, isn't it? We're all waiting for Batman, essentially what it sounds like. All right. Dylan, you want to go any higher than 11? No. I don't really either.
Starting point is 00:28:36 John, you're going to get the Flash. Barry Allen for 11. So right now, John, you have Vibe, Flash, and Catwoman. Yes. The dream team. they're all about doing things fast and vibrating because Barry Allen can also vibrate. Exactly. That's why Catwoman doing this on the team.
Starting point is 00:28:55 She's supposed to do a lot of things fast with those two on her team. Like what? Like a bank heist? Yeah. Yep, sure thing. The way you said that doesn't make me feel like that's what you meant at all. All right. We're going to spin our wheel again.

Starting point is 00:29:30 Oh, the ultimate man. The ultimate man. That's got to be good. That's got to be good. He's the best. He's the ultimate man. The ultimate man. Yes, the ultimate man.
Starting point is 00:29:41 I actually read the entirety of the Aztec series because I was so just amazed by this character's existence. Okay. And let me pull him up real fast. There he is. Aztec was raised by the Q Foundation as the avatar of the snake god Quetzel Quodal. He was meant to battle a great darkness. This character was around for 62 issues.
Starting point is 00:30:08 And first it appeared in Aztec, the Ultimate Man Number One, a town called Vanity, which was released in 1996. Aztec as a series only ran for a couple issues, ended up getting canceled, and that's when Grant Morrison brought the character over to the Justice League comic. So Aztec, these are all of Aztec's powers, and that's why I wanted to bring them up.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Aztec is adaptive, agility, blast power, density control, dimensional manipulation, flight, superpower intellect, invisibility. He has powerful gadgets, a powerful suit, super sight, super speed, super strength, and an expert in unarmed combat. He is a hero for the new millennium, Aztec, the ultimate man. Okay, I feel like that guy's got a lot of powers I could really use on my team. Yes. Given that my team consists of a woman that can turn into, well, not turn into, a woman has replicate the powers of animals.
Starting point is 00:31:10 They can replicate the paris of other animals. And then this guy does everything else. So I feel like if I get him, I'm pretty like... You're doing okay. Yeah. But then also, Corey, you seem very excited about him? I have read the entire Aztec series. More excited than about vibes.
Starting point is 00:31:30 You were faking the vibe stuff. I think all 10 issues of the Aztec series didn't last very long. But 10s? That's not a bad run. than we've had. Yeah, true. It's more than our baby juggernaut comic has had. We haven't written it yet.

Starting point is 01:17:59 Victor Stone was cybernetically enhanced by his father. He now possesses the ability to communicate, manipulate, and interface with nearly all forms of technology. As he is constantly upgrading, he promises to defend the future from any threat. Cyborg first, well, he's been in 3,089 comics, and his first appearance was DC Comics presents number 26, between friend and foe when nightmares began,

So this is the Green Lantern that was in the Justice League cartoon in the 90s and 2000s, voiced by Phil Lamar. Because, you know, Phil Lamar's great voice actor. So the difference between the two is that John Stewart is very organized, very militant because of his past in the United States Marines. Whereas John Stewart, or not John Stewart, but Hal Jordan is a test pilot, so he's a little more reckless and a little more daring. So same power set, just different approaches to how they use them.

Starting point is 01:24:44 He has technology that allows him to shoot like beams out of his wrists. He has a personal force field that goes around him. He's capable of flight thanks to his Legion flight ring. He's a very funny character because at times he's selfish and a bit greedy. But he has a good heart and a bit of a time traveler. Oh.
Starting point is 01:25:05 John, you would know of Booster Gold a little bit because of Rip Hunter from DC Legends of Tomorrow. Booster Gold is his dad. Oh, really? Yeah. Well, I never. Starting point is 01:31:08 I'm super happy my team. I'm going to say that. Some of them I've never heard of, but the way that you described them, I'm pretty happy with what I got.
