for so long that it's hard to know if he would be a riz king or not and i would only the only person who would really know is his wife and i have two kids now so i'm assuming steve isn't a human that lived for very long yeah that's true and you're not as a grown-up yeah that's what i'm saying like it's like it doesn't count when you're like 8 and 12 and all this stuff like when you're actually out going to like bars and trying to date and that's what that person existed for like a couple months i'm yeah as a legal adult i would i've been single for four months yeah that's that's crazy of my legal adulthood and not since 2007 if you don't know that dating though if you count dating as like you know you start to somewhat date in grade seven or grade

or whatever steve was like he's like where the sahara meets the sea uh it was it was it was dry as a bone i don't understand and then splash be honest you're in you're in the ocean forever i understand i understand what he said there was nothing and then he had girlfriend broke up for four months wife i get it now that's kind of how it happened yeah don't waste time don't waste time get in there be a man yeah uh hey so we want to shout out everybody that was at this weekend at Corson Clubhouse. i'm not why not i've done it before yeah i hate it though it makes me nervous oh no no everybody's gotta stand there and watch no over your shoulder be like who's stevie no i'm scared do you are you do you get a little stage fright with that yes yes that's terrifying why yeah because i usually do it alone in a room yeah but you do the show like you did the show yesterday like with jesse and i and was fine no sorry this is coming out monday morning but different it's different you got to come up with it completely off the dome and with no help oh you and jesse you can't you can't talk you can't talk to me and don't help you're banished yeah you you will have some you have some rowdy folks i mean there's there will be i think that there will be some chilly ones

today they were the first on the field steelers now three and out i don't know why i expected you to be like have signed extensions no no you're gonna be like whoa whoa whoa are they even eligible No, LaTang's already got the massive one. That's not going to look good at the end of it. No, sign another one. Sign another one? Yeah, but he's not eligible. Again, hit me.

You're 25, sir. Hit me. So tonight, and we unfortunately just couldn't get together after the Leafs game tonight because, you know, it'll be at 10 o'clock tonight. The Leafs lines look a little bit scary, close to what we think they might look like in the regular season. uh this is kyle cushman potentially you know putting the lines out that this is what was

practiced today uh nize matthews marner which we expect domi nylander yarn croak which we expect patch ready tavaris grabenkin grabenkin we're going to come back to i don't think any combination of those guys skated together well and then cowan quillen reeves on the back end we've got riley tanev oel mccabe weber lilligren and noah chadwick will dress as well along with joe wall and matt murray not anthony stallers uh and and then on the senator's side uh i just want to read you out this lineup because the senators are really treating this like preseason and the leafs are not this happens every preseason though it's the next game the sends will have a juice totally and the leafs will be and that's fine who are these people uh crook shang pinto batherson noah gregor

way holiday amadio another former leaf coolaman god debt another former leaf to the former holy that's four um mckeown i think wasn't he too no no um you know what screw it for the bit yes reinhardt jenik uh borgo and then petterson uh and then jenik i'm sorry how alan walsh would roll over he's unique yeah that's right he's unique unique unique uh and then we got hot sambacho that was a noted mispronunciation uh is this yakum chuck is that how you pronounce it yakum chuck uh yakum chuck uh tyler clevin uh artem zoob donovan sabrango and max guinette and and then obviously how who's seen mad so guard in the game before i've seen mad so garden what game did you see mad so garden oh i don't remember the exact game why not he's an up and

coming goalie i thought you were gonna make a bigger deal of a potentially 45 year old dustin takarski i can't believe he's still playing he is the most journeyman of journeyman like good for him yeah good for him yeah i mean hey man keep going keep playing he played playoff games for montreal in 2014 and adam he's still here in the 22 23 season so guard made 23 ish starts for the ottawa senators oh like or nearly 20 starts for the senators like it you know i'm sorry i wasn't watching that closely that year well yeah they made themselves difficult to watch after yes like christmas yeah but still unless they were playing the leafs and beating them yeah they were terrible they were great they were all-stars against the leafs it was crazy

the dumbest uh thogar played 19 games had a 889 save percentage eight wins six losses three ties wow he has a he had a winning record yep good for him with an 889 hey it might go for the cup martin jones did that for years winning record yeah where's martin jones this year has anybody checked in on martin i don't think he has his deal no no which is odd because he was fine yeah i liked him he was totally fine i i was i was thinking about that when we were i was prepping for our season previous and i'm like i wonder where martin jones went anyway um now a couple of changes at camp a couple of things that i wanted to hit at camp now we talked about this a little bit last night on on our live show but in case you missed that um there is always a player

that we as a fan base fall in love with. Whether or not they become the superstar right away, Fraser Minton looks so good. And then they played the first nine games with him and he looks so... It was like three or four games. And he's like 18. It's okay. It's fine.

It's fine. We're not upset about it. But I think Nikita Grabenkin is your early season fit for that. Here's what Craig Berube, who's not big on praise publicly, said. He's big. He's strong. I was impressed with him. It was a tough practice. But his pace didn't drop off.

He's big. And again, he repeated this big, strong kid, powerful skater. There's some good stuff there. I love his size. Now, what's interesting about him is his pick, the pick that got him, according to Kevin Pappetti, was the pick that the Leafs got for Travis Dermott. Isn't that crazy? Really?

Yeah. So I'm going to I'm going to pull this up. I just wondered if you remember this. i thought dermot was they got a fifth rounder from vancouver and grabenkin was a no sorry a third rounder from vancouver the leafs took hilda b towards the end of the fourth round in 2022 then they took grabenkin sorry and then yeah that and and the leafs traded travis dermot for a third round pick then traded down uh and that third round pick uh got uh to add the grabenkin pick and that's basically how they got okay isn't that neat it is neat i if if this kid wasn't

coming off of playing in the KHL out of sight, out of mind, if he wasn't drafted in the fifth round a year after he was draft eligible, we'd be talking about him the way we talk about Matthew nice. Like, I think it's very similar skillset. I said this all in the, in the live show yesterday,

but in case you don't have time to watch both, I think what happened is if you go and look at his MHL team, which is like junior for the khl if you go and look at the year the leafs drafted them 22nd overall the 22nd overall sorry they drafted them in the fifth round they had it was might have been 222 that's why i said 22nd they had the 25th pick before they traded it to chicago in the morassic deal and they got 38 and got minton but knowing they were going to be picking in that range they scouted that team and Danila Yurov was on that team he went 24th to Minnesota I'm pointing at the producer's chair you can tell Hayden's in today um and 44th overall uh it was

a guy I can't remember his name but he went to the Blackhawks so the Leafs were like okay there's two gifted players who are going to be in and around that range for us uh and I guess they saw Gerbenkin and they were like this kid's pretty good right that's just my theory I don't know that that's true but i'm assuming if you ask around that'll that'll be what we come up with uh ryan reeves called uh camp the one of the two hardest days he's ever had at camp uh and it wasn't second so i love a soundbite ryan uh it's a good soundbite it's good for a good quote yeah i also thought it was interesting luke fox reported that um in previous years you heard a lot of music at camp no music interesting like during like during the uh the rushes and that sort of thing i guess

keith under keith they could play music under berube it's hardcore focus no music your uncle's gonna love it your uncle's gonna love that is that gonna make a difference i don't know i don't really know it's just it's probably he's a new coach and he wants them to hear him properly like keith was like ah this is the same team as the last two years i'm sure you know what i want let's play some tunes and get there for any other team in the nhl if we were to hear that we'd be like that's stupid and unnecessary who gives a damn for the leafs i'm like good any edge any edge please good any edge like the the last night i think it was jesse went all right how are we feeling about the team this year oh and it's a room of like how many people were there 200 it was bone chilling

malaise like it wasn't booze it wasn't cheers it was just uh yeah people let sound vaguely seep from their vocal cords like it was no one's stoked on this why should they well we're not getting into that i have a question for you off of the first preseason game is why the berube keith thing you're talking about yeah i've uh the more we hear about like the end of sheldon keith's tenure and now the beginning of berube's tenure do you guys think that towards the end of it keith was kind of checked out i don't know if it was checked out it's that um so babcock was bad cop keith comes in and he's mary poppins like he is everyone's just so stoked he's there and he's so positive and where's your hometown kid i'm putting you in make sure you put up a big

performance for ma and pa and as the years went they needed bad cop again and the transition to bad cop just didn't work right like i i think going you can't come in as one and then become the other is what you're saying i think it's easier to be bad cop and then be occasionally delightful right then it is to be good cop all the time and then put your foot down right i think a lot of the time you get a little man and babcock was i don't think he was i don't think he was delightful in any no oh you're no one's going to accuse him of ever being delightful across the board kind of mean maybe checked out isn't the right word maybe it's more just content with how things on he was he had an inability to change anything is that by the end of it that is whatever

was happening at the time whatever the players were at those moment sheldon keith couldn't do anything in his powers in terms of strategy or motivation or yell just anything he couldn't do anything to change it it is what it was the you know usually when a coach is on their way out the door you see them have like a signature freak out because this is their last gasp the freakouts that we saw with the Leafs at the end of Sheldon Keefe's tenure were the players yelling at each other because what's not fucking junior bro stop fucking crying bro it's not fucking junior i clear as day and i mean i'm sure keith said something along those lines a hundred times before then walking it back immediately the next day yeah um anyway not getting too much into that

Remember when he got fired, I was fully convinced he got it. He understood what ailed the Leafs, but like you said, he was powerless to change it. He was like the Matthew McConaughey meme. He's looking through his past self in the space movie. No, no. He can't change it. No, it truly felt like he knew what was wrong, but he was powerless to change it. Yeah.

and now he filled out all my notes for the season preview for the devils i think he's gonna really enjoy coaching that team and uh i think berube is gonna be very tough i think he's gonna be very fair uh and i also don't think he's gonna have as much rope for bullshit well and and and again we talk about it a lot but sometimes the same person saying the same thing just falls on deaf fears and you have a different person say the same thing you're like you know what that doesn't make sense yeah i think even his video down at down at lakeshore like in front of the water saying goodbye and everything there was a sort of contentness with it i'm gonna float off into the sunset into the ocean because i've accomplished all that i can here jesse can you bring up a

picture of craig berube sure i can do that i thought you were gonna say can you bring up a picture of sheldon keith in what looks like heaven no not that um it's actually kind of funny that that keith ended up with the devils because i think about the south park movie and kenny's going to heaven and that's and then he's like and then he ends up with in hell what happened with keith right all right let's have a look at uh craig brube tell me tell me you're saying no to that guy tell me you're telling that guy to fuck off no you're not and and here's the here's a guy that was a tough guy in the toughest era of the nhl like that hayden can you go closer yeah

no it's jesse that's all it's jesse hayden can you go closer anyway not the mouth jesse the eyebrows it's the eyebrows it's the look at the ridge no it's the it's the if that frowns at you that's not fun there's a not a lot of boxers have like weak jaws like he just looks hard to knock out you know what i mean yeah like and that was his whole nhl career was yeah he was pretty hard to knock out right right yeah he uh no i think he'll command respect yeah i think that's the case and and uh and a fun little story from camp moving on from craig berube and his tough guy ways of shutting the music off shut the damn music off we're gonna focus and win the cup a fun little story that'll help them win uh patch ready and gerbenkin uh have had uh pondis

holmberg at center this is according to uh lance hornby of the toronto sun but tavaris will be moving in there tonight um and apparently patcher ready has tried to have little off-ice conversations with gerbenkin because he doesn't have um gerbenkin doesn't speak much english patch ready speaks a little russian because his wife is the sister of maxima finneganoff oh i think i did know that i didn't know that maxim often agadam that's uh sabers legend sabers legend that's very random isn't that random i just thought i didn't know that yeah say that one more time so so i guess patch already has tried to speak to gerbenkin off the ice a little bit and and you've seen this with the flyers with uh is it kosalov uh who is not reporting to camp because oh kolosov that's it

not reporting to camp because they don't know why but maybe the the the russian factor the language barrier might be part of the reason and they're talking about that with mitch koff as well um although he's reported um you can be very lonely people if you're here and you don't speak the language so patch ready he's trying to speak english to him because or sorry russian to him because he knows a little because maxima finnegan off is his brother-in-law first of all that's wild second of all i don't think people properly appreciate how important nick antropov is to this organization yeah he he's native Kazakh but he speaks Russian sure and um you know it at any given time there haven't been more than two Russians on the roster for quite a while

yep um and he's always been there I was told um uh he was a big part of whatever that few weeks was or that month where ilia samsonov disappeared yep antropov was a huge part of rebuilding him and well i think we could talk about what we heard at the easter seal tournament last yeah at the easter seals tournament so he was a draftable celebrity every year we we do a this lindros tournament where all the 15 ish uh nhl alumni show up and you can draft them and they hang out with you all day and they can be on your team tell great stories that kind of thing tell great stories yeah antropov was one of the draftable celebrities and he got uh like a ping on his phone that night like we actually need you tomorrow and so you draft them at night and then

the next day you play the games and he's like i can't play the games but i'll talk to you tonight and tell you some stories like yeah there's nothing because he was he was called away to rebuild ilia samson yeah and he he's in the tournament every year yeah right he was and it's never an issue they brought him in to directly talk to Ilya Samsonov that's the key yeah and Samsonov whose English was never the strongest right which is part of the reason why his quotes were always so great yeah um but uh yeah no they they the organization needs that guy bad yeah so anyway I just thought that was a neat little story um and we'll see how the game goes listen I'm not putting too much stock in tonight's game I think you just kind of look at it and go oh that's fun

well I mean no correct I tried I tried to galaxy brain that no it's the first preseason game you're right if this is the last I see of Mitch Marner and Austin Matthews and William Nylander the entire well maybe not William William's starting a new position but if this is the last I see to play more if this is the last I see of Marner Matthews I don't even care like of in this preseason yeah because like why why why what are we doing well you know they got to get acquainted I don't think they do I think I think they know each other and I think you just kind of go um maybe you play them part of one other game but I I don't think you need to see them very much i'd like to see what else they have i want to i want to see tavaris patches

grabenkin whatever the hell that it like the matthews martyr nye's line should be playing i would say the fourth most tonight yes at highest third yeah it's a pre-season game yeah absolutely we'll see how it goes um a uh because they're talking about the sins and i'm sorry i'm i'm all nasally and sick and a little tired from last night honestly i don't recover don't bounce back the way it used to um i got it the sends have a new arena deal hey i saw an arizona coyotes account uh say that should be us um we did mention it briefly on friday yes dropped yeah so we know a little bit more and so there was this was interesting because what i thought i saw some tweets where and lauer who i really like as an owner was saying well we're we're not we're not

here for a handout for how are we going to pay for this because the price tag is probably a billion dollars right a lot of money yeah and it's not just an arena it's a whole entertainment complex is going to be um accessible apparently from both sides of the river but i i took this from bruce garyox article um he said the senators and the ncc uh have to take some time with this one the decision for the club to purchase 10 acres of land on a site located west of parliament hill is significant because it allows the senators to be accessible from both sides of the river which is a major part of of the geography of ottawa um and if you're from like pittsburgh or you're from uh any city like calgary with a uh you know water right through it it does actually matter right

having to go through bridges and that sort of thing well i i remember at a at a puck talks event now we're going way back years and years ago uh pierre lebrun who's one of the most you know respected insiders uh he i don't remember what prompted this but he was talking about the biggest mistake the senators ever made and one of them was they didn't make enough inroads in quebec yeah because it's they're right there yeah they're right there and i think it's just assumed most quebecois nhl fans are going to cheer for the montreal canadians but like for a huge swath of Quebec like Gatineau especially they're right there right there so they got to ingratiate it's like it's like Windsor Detroit almost you know what I mean like they're that there's a ton

of Red Wings fans in Windsor and and and so when you look at this and so that was something that Ann Lauer brought up he's like that's something they are going to do uh Cyril Leder who's uh one of the heads of the Ottawa Senators now um basically said that they would need some sort of federal money in some sort of way and Ann Lauer said it shouldn't cost taxpayers money There's a nice balance about the economic output. So I think what he was suggesting, and this is what Bruce Garriock says, in the past is the similar model to the funding of Rogers Place Arena in Edmonton. Under that scenario, the city chipped in $300 million through a community revitalization

levy, and then the team paid $165 million. So the idea being that the city makes the money back off the taxable revenue that the complex creates. When you invest as a city, you get back. yeah you get it back over x amount of years or something like that in the taxes because people and the other thing that i know senators fans are going to love is like um there are benefits for all i'm not looking uh this is not a money grab it's about being sustainable i do not want our fans paying 200 for a ticket 30 bucks for a beer or 50 bucks for parking which is a beautiful shot

across the bow at toronto edmonton and vancouver and that's what he should be doing that's awesome if i'm a sense fan i'm like yeah also leave a war for this guy leave fans don't want that either no we don't know we don't we don't we don't like that at all it sucks might be the first time since 2017 and leave fans have been jealous i know i i like this guy this is he's an interesting a really interesting character um here's my question though you build a billion dollar arena guys and complex how does that not happen oh just magic i think it's a myth that well it's not it's not a myth but it's been proven that you don't need to charge crazy amounts for food because the atlanta falcons have done this for a long time where they have really low prices on all

their foods and i can bring them up but like they charge five dollars for nachos and beers like four bucks and it's a thing in the two dollars for popcorn like it's a thing in their stadium so i'm going to atlanta that sounds yeah it's not it's not necessary to charge ten dollars for everything you know like it doesn't have to be 15 for a beer it's just if you want to maximize your revenues as a business it's the smart thing to do because that's what people are willing to pay for things but if you want to be kind to fans out of just the goodness of your heart you can charge a lot less and you'll make money back on like ticket prices and everything i'll say that um one of the things that you can do that i noticed when i was going to games in tampa

was they basically sold sponsorships on literally everything so even the grill was the ford grill like if i wanted a burger it had a ford logo singed in the bun yes and so maybe that's the way they think hey we can keep the prices down a little bit here is is we'll sell like like the leafs have like the hot stove lounge and whatever else they have yeah and berkey's dog house yeah whatever that yeah whatever that was and what none of those are like sponsored in that way it's just here's the concession so i wonder if that's the route they go they got to get people in the seats priority one right and this is a huge step here's my betting uh uh from talking to a couple people is that they're not even going to get shovels in the ground for at least a year here like this is

gonna be a long long go so uh we're thrilled for senators fans this is great but we're talking about half a decade here before they're it's gonna be a while yeah yeah and that's okay takes a while to build arenas you know it's not an overnight thing yeah i have the menu for mercedes-benz stadium in their concession so about 2017 ish i was reading there's a forbes article with the ceo of the falcons and he was saying the biggest complaint we had at our old stadium the georgia dome where the falcons used to play was the price of food so we said why don't we try a new thing called street pricing we're at our stadium we charge street prices for food so it'd be two bucks for a hot dog two bucks for a coke and all that kind of stuff and these are the the prices

they still maintain today for their food items at mercedes-benz stadium in atlanta it's two dollars for a pretzel three dollars for nacho and cheese six bucks for chicken tenders five dollars for a cheeseburger three dollars for a pizza slice and on and on and on and they found that souvenir cup is four dollars that's insane i want any other stadium in north america no i want every sports executive in this city arrested yeah and what they found is that they're the feedback from the fans is incredible obviously they'll get a hundred percent on all surveys about the food pricing but they found people buy more because it's super cheap and they make back the money in other ways and the goodwill is paying for the lost revenue that they're not making there you can't get this

at an ohl game no no my god well and it's american dollars too right so canadian dollars still even still in there and then the beer in the corner there behind steve is five dollars for bud light draft beer like wow yeah what's it what i didn't go to a jay's game this year because they weren't worth the money but what did you guys go one how much two games how much okay how much for a beer there uh i don't know like 13 13 50 or something like that right which is roughly eight or nine american dollars yeah i guess yeah right so life's just insane right now that have i talked about the ice cream truck i think you probably have you want me to do it again i i don't know this story okay is it the ice is it where you didn't have enough money for the ice no oh no

and rightfully so um so here's the interesting thing lankan is there because their other guy is dylan ferguson she loves is not totally healthy and demko is not healthy and what's interesting is i got a quote here basically he didn't make a lot of progress throughout the summer this is demko yeah i i feel like i hear a different thing every day i i do too because i was looking for some stuff jesse yeah you you know something on this that i could not find yeah so i i i watched all the so he spoke to the media yes there were it was really awkward because um patrick ovian didn't really want to say anything before demko could say anything so like all week they're they're just throwing around the the ball and nobody's saying anything about demko and finally

he comes out i think it was thursday or friday morning or friday morning pretty sure he talks the media and he says that what he has is um it's not a knee issue it's a muscle issue and the muscle issue hasn't been found in any hockey players he was telling he was saying that his doctors haven't found this in any other hockey players and the muscle injury they've only found it in five soccer players wow so what injury is it so he didn't he didn't specify what's going on with the muscle it's the itis but it's something with the muscle and some sort of muscle injury that hockey players don't get but he didn't say the muscle he didn't say the exact injury he didn't elaborate it's muscle itis obviously i can read i can read some of the quotes he had you never had

muscle itis oh i have body itis go ahead the exact quote demko gave is we haven't found a single hockey player demko said of the injury we found maybe less than five soccer guys it's just not too concrete. It's been a little bit of a frustrating summer just to get some answers. Obviously, we talked to all the specialists that we can around the world in North America and even overseas. And this is the information that we've kind of gathered. Myself and the staff and the organization are fully confident that we're on the right track. I did hit a bit of a wall in the summer as far as the recovery went. And we did see a little bit of a lack of progress there for a couple of months. And obviously, that's why I'm in this situation that I'm in

right now. But I would say, you know, in the last probably two to three weeks, we've seen a ton of progress. We're very confident in where I am right now and happy with that. And he can't really give an answer on when he's going to be back. Had you asked me a month ago, I really wouldn't have been able to tell you. I would say that we are on a great trajectory right now. This is the most confident that I've been in the rehab process up to the date. while thought i was going to do with the rest of my life i was going to go to school for for stuff like that the human body is fascinating to me you thought you're going to be a doctor no like kinesiology or something something like that like like physio rehab stuff like that it's it's just there's a muscle injury they've never found in a hockey you know how many hockey players there's been and five soccer players you know how many soccer players there's been that doesn't mean it hasn't happened it just means they haven't reported it well they haven't like they're hockey players i was like recently something hurt i was talking to my trainer about it and he's like well here's your leg and he was showing me all the muscles like on your quad or whatever it was

yeah and then he shows me a different picture of your quad and the picture is all the muscles are different and i'm like what what is this you're showing me he's like oh this is the second layer yeah and i'm like layer yeah like sometimes i like if if you get hurt two or three if you injure a muscle two or three layers deep how do they even find that out how do they even know yep all that stuff is so fascinating to me but uh it's it's not my muscle that's screwed up it's his and i i do share a frustration in trying to get better and you stagnate like this must have been an extraordinarily frustrating summer for demko because you're putting all this effort into rehabbing and you're getting nothing out of your hard work if you remember back in the playoffs

they said Demko would be ready if the Vancouver Canucks advanced far enough in the playoffs. Yeah, that was the word from man in game one. He'll be ready for game seven. If they can make it to the Stanley Cup final,

like he'll be there if they make the Redminton and all this stuff. And since then, he's still not healthy. So that's how tricky this muscle injury has been. And during the offseason,

Demko also revealed that he had another surgery that was preventative, but he's recovered from that since it was like a two week recovery and all that's fine. So that's nothing to worry about. But he did have another surgery

and this thing's just lingering and week to week they'll evaluate jeez wow yeah i want to go back and do our vancouver preview again our season previews are coming out on the sdp on youtube channel if you aren't aware they started releasing yesterday the vancouver one's up already yeah uh at this rate if demko isn't healthy like if say next week he's because he's week to week they come out and they're like okay uh it's actually a bigger setback and demko's not available for most of the season that changes this team entirely it does um the regular season's very long how long is it boys and girls and that's right um but like i think they could get by for quite some time with like lincoln and silas yes but there's a difference between getting by and predicting them to win the

Right in the middle for the first two months and then let Demko figure it out. I think it was Elliott Freeman made it sound like it was a lot more Lincoln's choice rather than he couldn't get a job. Like something happened a couple of years ago where I was like, this kind of sucks for this player. Aaron Dell wanted a contract with the Leafs.

So he signed a contract with the Leafs. And before he plays a game with the Leafs, he gets waived which was not a surprise and guess what now you're no longer a leaf yeah because you're going somewhere else you just signed a contract to play with that team you move there hopefully you didn't unpack so now you're not there this is a reality for goalies right um kevin lankanen is interesting because he knows he's a good enough goalie that teams are going to want his services but right now he's going to a team that's not going to waive him right like guaranteed not going to wait that's true that's true so he knows i can sign in vancouver and i

know i'm going to stick there uh for a little bit hayden you got something to say yeah just you guys mentioned martin jones earlier i'm surprised they went with lankan instead of martin jones like he's still there i think i think lankan's numbers are way better and he's younger you know lankan is 29 uh and has worked his way up had a cup he had one good year with chicago and then the next year was bad but chicago were so bad jones was like jones was bad for a long time that it was almost shocking that he was still in it he yes he was he's duct tape he's like he can get it done until the professional arrives and that's basically what he did with the leafs last year and i suppose that's what lincoln is being taxed with but he's a little

bit better than than duct tape like uh this time last year if you were to ask uh your average fan who's a better goalie kevin lankanen or archer silovs who no one had seen right you would have said kevin lankanen then silovs you know steals a bunch of games in the playoffs and holy crap um this is why i said i think the canucks can survive and maybe even thrive with lankanen silavs but and there's no one's a playoff on that you goalies find magic in the playoffs remember akira schmidt anton hudobin yeah where's the cure schmidt now he's the third goalie in vegas i don't even i think yeah i think you're probably right vegas yeah third goalie in vegas and he was magic lights out for the devils the last time they were in the play magic got a big contract

and was immediately not worth it now i think archer silavs has he actually has real potential and but he was very mediocre in the regular season last year he was five and five and that's why Canucks fans when he went down they were like oh this isn't great this is not super he had an 881 save percentage in four games Demko at his best is top five Vesna Vesna nominee yeah yeah yeah no so I understand how that's a bit of a pickle but then in the playoffs so much better although still didn't have a uh he did not have a higher than 900 save percentage it was an 898 but he was great who was this silas oh so you lankan and to me silas can go down lankan and could be your backup you still got time to find out what you've got and i i like this i like the signing for them

a lot and i like it for lankan because he feels to me a little bit like an anthony stallers where anthony stoller signed here because he knew there was a real opportunity to define himself finally like he's got a real opportunity yeah i think so because you can remember stallers was uh behind john gibson in anaheim and then behind bobrovsky and and then took knight's position away in florida yes and now he's coming to toronto with an unproven joseph wool who we're all high on we don't think he's going to be good and he's got a real opportunity lincoln's got it too and it's coming later in his career guys undrafted it's a good story goaltending so weird like i i i think i've said this a few times but um when hudobin was uh dragging the dallas stars to the stanley

cup final yep in 2020 i i want to say he was like 35 or something when he was doing it i was like how come this guy was never really a starter in the nhl and i went back and looked at his career and there were very few times where you could go back and be like yeah he was pretty bad he was pretty bad and then he was okay it's he just kept playing behind better goalie yes like or or proven starters right like uh oh i'm gonna sign here and who's this duke arras guy and like and it just kept happening that way for him and sometimes you just need an opportunity and it takes a while johnny bauer was like in his 30s when he became an nhl regular and what a great opportunity for him too like this is a team that should should win the division or should challenge at least

that's amazing they'll be in the conversation yeah fine um uh dawson mercer unless you have more to say on vancouver no dawson mercer has signed an extension uh with the new jersey devils we were talking about what the matthew nye's extension might look like yesterday uh because somebody asked us in st catherine's and i wonder now uh with a little bit more of a sobriety sober thought if this sort of bridge deal is something that is similar to what matt nize might get if he continues on his trajectory it's a three-year contract annual average value of four million bucks he had 33 points last year he had 56 the year before and 42 in his uh opening season 18th overall pick during like that weird 2020 draft because everything's been weird about

on long-term injury reserve must take a pre-camp physical to establish that they are still unable to play that's not doing so could in theory lead to contract termination that was from friedman who wrote a brief thing on on lenner and so he didn't show up but it was under the belief that both sides in the nhlpa knew that he wasn't going to show up for the physical because we all knew he wasn't going to play right but there was still this air of it still became a story he didn't show up so they might be terminating his contract but that doesn't seem like it's going to be the case and that's what was so interesting about it it was because if all sides knew why are we being so cagey about that yeah why did a story come out well it was kelly mccrimmon's

comments because before leonard made his comments about like everybody knows what's happening here kelly mccrimmon came out and say robin will not be reporting to the club this year he continues to be unfit to play there are unique circumstances surrounding this situation the nhl the nhlpa are working through um so him just stating that he's not showing up i think a lot of the reporters just took it as oh vegas is kind of doing something nefarious here right and trying to work around the contract termination not paying him the five million dollars five four point four million dollars that he's owed this season so but that doesn't seem to be the case at all right it seems like a big fire but everybody calmed down everything's kind of work gonna be worked out

those months the entire regular season the entire playoffs up till the final moments playing with these injuries i felt i felt for him in retrospect remember when they scratched him yeah and he was pissed about it well he was pissed about he should have been more reasonable about it and the team should have not let him hang on a on a line like that you know what i'm saying like i feel like that could have been handled better he's got like 40 injuries maybe maybe just tell the press he's not a hundred percent he'd i'd be pissed didn't feel like saying it i guess i'd be pissed if i was playing with um abductor ruptures and hernias and abdominal tears and all of that stuff and you're like you know what you're not good enough i'd be like do you see what i'm playing with
