is not here yet he's out doing streeters jesse blake is here as well and it's a bit it's a bit
echoing here but we're gonna work on that now listen leo carlson just went second overall and
the reason we started the stream late is because we realized we're in a different time zone and we
didn't realize that before kind of stupid right uh leo carlson going number two is a huge surprise
here uh i think it was steve that was saying earlier today to us that adam fantilli would
probably slide to fourth and it looks as though he will hi steven welcome back get on get on the
headset get on in so get in there so leo carlson just like you predicted number two overall it's
insane and you won't believe this connor connor bedard went number one wow yeah it's a shock it's
a shock to all i think they're gonna regret not drafting fantilli you think so yeah steve why did
you know and how did you know this by the way so first of all did you explain why we're on yeah
already taken care of oh my god so funny hilarious so you're out doing streeters by the way who'd you
run into you ran into some nhl people you ran into we ran into paul bismuth who's just gone
oh yeah absolutely gone that's nice nice we ran into a guy uh who was wearing a sous saint marie
greyhounds jersey oh nice um that makes sense that was pretty cool so to be clear
i didn't call leo carlson to go second you did call there we go four yeah so it's very interesting
i i the ducks are off the board here so the the thing that i compiled in my head was
obviously bedar goes first yeah what i did was i took jeff merrick's prediction of mafe mitchkov
okay going second and then someone told me uh will smith at three okay so
fantilly could fall to four here um it's not the way i envisioned it um oh and i was getting some
chirps sorry i'm trying to catch my breath oh that's cool we tried so hard to get here
and then also there's four flights of stairs on the way up yeah but um um no i was getting chirps
because i made some bets and like i made my bets and then i heard the mitch kov podcast on a public
podcast and then i heard the will smith thing and i'm like oh well too bad i've already i think i
put money on uh fantilli going third because i listen to merrick and i had mitch kov going second
so right um this opens things up considerably like leo carlson is a ridiculous player
it's kind of got everything the highlights they're showing are absolutely ridiculous
kind of crazy yeah see this turbo turbs is wondering if fantilly will fall to 28
you know i don't think so well the rumblings the rumblings we're hearing about the leafs that i
don't think we're at liberty to say are absolutely absurd um yeah there's apparently some some stuff
in the works with the leafs big stuff we do have reason to believe that the preds met with mitch
kov and what's what's going on here like i don't know if that was reported but what's going on here
you can kind of see with carlson going second the habs the habs pick at five they're down with
potentially trading down yeah the nashville predators want to get into the top five and
now kevin weeks and several others are talking about um the possibility of yaroslav askerov
the 11th overall pick goaltender the Preds have in their system they're talking about him potentially
going somewhere in a deal what do the Habs need really bad they need a goalie of the future
Sam Montembeau's fine you know but you you need a star this guy could be a star yeah so I don't know
what the package would entail like I can't imagine it's just ask Rob for the fifth overall picks
straight up but I can definitely see a situation where if Mitch Kov um is available still at five
if the Preds trade up using Askerov and get him there.
And we know in an interview with the Tennessean that Barry Trotz did say,
you know, they want to make a splash here in Nashville, move into the top five.
He said, you know, obviously you've got to have a dance partner to do that.
But if the Montreal Canadiens can manage that,
it's a pretty solid little return, right?
I mean, it makes sense for them, given what they've done.
But it also makes sense for Nashville as well.
Yeah, well, like, I mean, you're just not getting rid of Soros.
and you know we talked to some preds fans here and they talked about uh pat verbeek's ducks
badges on upside down it's bugging me um is it oh you know what no it's not it's just on slightly
yeah it's on an angle adhd definitely definitely need to go get that taken care of do not remember
what we were talking oh yeah so uh talking to some preds fans about you know their window or
rather the lack thereof kind of right now um what's it going to look like uh in the future
but like saros isn't old he's an elite goaltender in the nhl now you're never going to be bad enough
with him to get it bottom five yeah yeah so the only way you're going to be able to do that is
there's askeroff who i don't care how well he's done in the minors he's still magic beans
you know there's high likelihood he's going to be good um but we don't know that we got columbus
pick is in columbus pick is in they're going to talk to 40 people and thank 48 people beforehand
and then we'll finally get the pick because they are one thing i'll say is that they are moving a
lot faster this year the pick is in uh it's 30 minutes in and we got two picks yeah but the
first moving a lot faster than last year though like i think shane wright happened like 90 minutes
in the broad we've messed up our time zones and still only missed one pick yeah it's crazy it's
kind of crazy how that happens eh i did i am glad they did the tribute to david poyle though here's
john davidson president of hockey ops for the columbus blue jackets it's will it's got to be
will smith they are giddy nah could be fantilli my my bets will i'll lock in will smith just
because i've been saying it adam who's your pick i think it's will smith as well all right let's go

gentlemen. Absolutely.

Now, I want to know, I mean, they're all great at this level.
With Fantilli, you know, what I find sort of fascinating is he's huge,
but does he fit the typical Columbus style?
Well, which is defense first, sometimes not a lot of flash,
although they have Gaudreau and they want, you know,
Lion-A to take back off again.
He's better than his peers.
Like, he's basically too good for university hockey.
he played with men and he borderline proved he was too good to play with them too um so you know
it's all eyes on mike babcock um and what he does with this team because i don't really think he
matches the stereotype of what you expect the columbus blue jackets to be right grind you down
squeeze blood from a stone like this is a superstar uh this is a potential superstar player
and it uh i think now here's what i'm wondering i wonder if mike babcock had a hand in this
okay because it's university of michigan he would have seen this kid play a thousand times
because supposedly he's still in the area and everything and that was the rumor with zach
hyman that you know he watched him play a bunch of times and you know we got to get this guy in
the organization or whatever i can't remember if hyman was before or after so not to make this
Babcock real estate podcast,
but he was living in
was it not Saskatchewan
for the last few years because he was coaching there
at the university.
Did he move from... That is a vest.
It is a good vest. That is quite
a vest. I don't know if you guys saw this, but
the inside of his vest
has a bunch of pictures from his junior career.
The inside of his jacket is actually really
really cool. Did Babcock move from
Saskatchewan to
Detroit to watch hockey?
i mean or just live there i guess he's mike babcock he's probably got more than one who's
yeah okay i just i'm just trying to add up the stories i'm gonna text the person
oh his dad just with the tears that's a beautiful thing you know you got to think about all the one
thing i do think about is all the early morning practices and the the drive into tournaments and
and especially in the states where the tournaments are like national right they go across the
country um canada they're a little bit more localized regional that sort of thing i think
it's uh it's pretty fat look at this look at his dad not neither but i'm telling you look on screen
his dad come on that's that's the good that's that's what it is right there it's a beautiful
thing um what were we talking about yesterday somebody uh they they celebrated for ice cream
uh oh what do you do you get drafted and you celebrate what do you do you went they went for
ice cream Lena Solmark that's right I think was the story yeah he wasn't expecting to get drafted
so he gets drafted he's like I guess we'll go for ice cream that's so they went out and good for
him yeah absolutely Conor Bedard could never would never yeah no this is this is big for them they're
kind of thin up front like I know they have Gaudreau I know they have Laine neither of them
have played their best hockey uh they're really thin up the middle um boone jenner gets to play
in a role that like he probably ought to be playing yeah jack roslovich as well um and you
know this talking about babcock again um they didn't really have like a number one center
when matthews was a rookie like when he stepped in no because it was cadre who people were like
he should be he shouldn't be whatever bozak he should be shouldn't be whatever and then matthews
that kid line of hyman matthews and nylander was the third line yeah when it started um so
you know you might look at rossovic you might look at jenner and i mean they're established
on each other's adam fantilli's never played there so you can't assume he's better than them
right now um i mean maybe he is but uh babcock knows how to spread out the ice spread out the
time almost maddeningly so you know a little bit what though it worked for matthews in his first
year i will say it did like as much as we didn't love the way some of the things that babcock pulled
with mitch marner and some of the other things matthew still went out and scored 40 goals he got
his ice time he got his time on the power play and and i think mike babcock is a i mean he's a
good nhl coach ken johnson as well you can manage that and i it people like wow i can't stand babs
and i understand personally why maybe you have some objections but when you look at how neil
Leonard Matthews and Marner's rookie seasons when he can handle some rookies he has no choice in
clubs just like he had no choice in Toronto well and you know he thought outside of the box as well
a little bit like having an all rookie line that doesn't seem like a Mike Babcock thing to do does
I thought was stupid did you I oh my god I was like well you got to surround these guys and what
are you doing but then the the rookies and maybe Columbus fans will find this too the rookies
became the best part of the team like bozak and jvr played with connor brown as their babysitter
as their defensive babysitter and it worked um for a while i mean he looks pretty happy about it
you got to get people feeling good about putting on a columbus blue jackets jersey
well i think this year will be different too because you have probably a full season of david
you know we had alan walsh on the podcast earlier today it's one of his clients and and you know he
He just won AHL Defenseman of the Year.
So you get Juracek and Fantilli injected into that lineup,
and we'll see what happens.
They've got Provorov as well.
I mean, the deals that they've made.
Severson, too.
And we're not telling tales out of school.
Alan Walsh, David Juracek's agent,
was the goaltender for Mike Babcock's team at McGill.

i don't know whenever whenever a draft or like a rookie gets drafted i'm always like how do you
know that many people like who are these people in the row that you're shaking hands with they
get they got their family or whatever and it's like okay then your agent well who else okay so
but who are the other guys at the end of the row yeah so i don't know if there's a sign junior b
coach comes yeah i don't know if there's a signed seating really so what i imagine happens is like
the american program would all sit together um certain ohl guys would would sit together
um i don't know how much enforcement there is uh of that i do know that um they have to kind
of protect the players a bit because the nhl draft in person is one of the most ridiculous
uh mixtures of elite professional athletes or aspiring professional athletes and to quote
one darren drager from a few years ago the unwashed so so the buffalo draft um where matthews
went first overall was just mobbed with leaf fans and there was this dude wearing like a mexican
wrestler ray mysterio mask uh like trying to get at matthews and matthews and his family were like
humoring people and taking pictures but people have to had to kept intervening and be like dude
get out of here this kid's about to be drafted like you know might still be 17 or whatever but
the the u.s national program has been stacked for several years and this year is no different
so if they were to go back to the olympics uh oh my god oh wow that's gonna be painful
yeah so they can press those names immediately as he's drafted yes i think they have more than
one ready to go no no they're doing the letter pressing right there really yeah well i know
that's that's how they're doing the past i don't know how they're doing it this year maybe they
bought all the jerseys but i know uh at least last year's it's a dude who's doing the letter
press you know in real sports you go in and get a press they'll have the jersey they'll have uh
the san jose jersey ready and they'll get the lettering he puts the name in will smith
and in the matter of two minutes he needs to press that jersey and hand it out i ever tell
you i briefly had a job uh doing that for jerseys no yeah in school yeah it was uh the stop signs
so if you had a jersey in durham region that was done shoddily you're welcome the stop sign on the
back of the soft side on the back of the jersey don't hit me to not hit someone we have a poll
running on twitch will montreal take mitch golf uh 59 said no i don't think they're gonna use the
pick so this is the exact situation this is it we'll find out if they've got a trade this is
the situation we were talking about a few minutes ago if mitch golf is still available at five will
we see the predators trade up to get them again i want to ask you if if if the predators do trade
up for Montreal's pick is Askerov and the 15th enough to do it well so look at it and or is it
enough for the Preds coming back like is Mitchkoff enough look at it look at it this way um if you
were moving up in the draft purely with the 11th overall pick in the 15th overall pick for the
fifth would that get it done you have to think it's it's tough because like the top five is like
those are the elite of the elite of the elite then it becomes a little bit more of a crapshoot
and then it really falls off of a cliff somewhere around pick 15 i hate when the draft guy comes on
the tv and he's like ah the draft begins at six you know like that that old phrase you don't know
like in five years half of the top five could be bus you know or like there's a guy who's taking
13th might have been number one likely will be yeah the the history of the draft is that
some of the best players are just scattered throughout it one of my one of my favorite
drafts is when boston ended up with i think picks 12 13 and 14 or 11 12 13 14 15 16 that's what it
was and they selected some guys like jake de brusque was among that but they passed on guys
like barzal and and guys that went in kyle connor kyle connor like 40 kyle connor you know it's
something that and listen boston doesn't need any help to be great because my god they're always
good, but it's one of those where that could
have been generational, that draft. Those three
picks really could have changed
the forecast for the Boston
Roots. Imagine those guys playing with Precci and Bergeron.
It's wild to imagine them better.
They're keeping this. They are keeping this.

surprise is leo carlson going number two to the ducks on the espn pre-show uh there were several
ducks fans in the audience with fantilly jerseys um with fantilly ducks jerseys oh it's interrupt
fantilly goes three to columbus and then of course um uh reinbacher fourth to sorry fifth
the montreal canadians fourth was will smith will blue jackets that's right so um you know
the thing is mitch koff seems to be the best player available what's up but who's going to
take him what's that montreal picks last name right ryan parker ah i didn't get it from the tv
oh no yeah that's very unfortunate carrie buddy i'm sick for you god that sucks they got to do
something with the canadians uh social media team for that will smith looks wildly like carter for

look who upped the budget by the way they did a little press conference at about five o'clock
today talking about they bought a bulk yeah dude um they uh um the coyotes had a little
announcement and i guess they're sorting out their arena but they should have an announcement
it was an announcement to make an announcement about the arena they don't really it was yes and
basically it was just well they look like it looks like they're going to buy private land
and just build the arena without public approval because they wouldn't need it yeah that's what
they're saying if uh no if they had good news to announce they would have announced it but they
don't so shut up well i i don't know why i thought because it was right before the draft that they
had something that would have made sense you know what i'm saying bring it all yeah grab bring it

best the best player is bedard number one who's second best mitch kov he's number two but then
you get tilly and yeah it was like it was a chance and there were whispers but like maybe leo carlson
and you know that was that was the top four for a very long time was bedard mitchkov fantilli
leo carlson um so mitchcock it it you know i don't like evoking the name um you know
may he rest in peace but this this reminds me of shara panoff who was supposed to go i believe
fifth overall in his draft year can't remember the draft year 2009 and he dropped all the way
to, I think, 17th.

the coyotes for a second you're gonna take a risk right they don't see that simishov is is
outside of the top 20 in terms of a lot of draft rankings not mckenzie's mckenzie so

that he thought Easton might move up
so he said I'm starting to believe
that there's a chance Easton Cowan ends up
being a top 40 selection
if I was a betting man I'd bet on it
his self his strong second half and playoff performance has really pushed him up the boards
tons of momentum heading into the draft so there's a little buzz about him moving up the ranking okay
and the rankings aren't updated you know like yeah so the second so at the end of it he looked
like a top 40 pick which is still not 28 but he had a great second half of the season and
scouts liked him and is it is it possible he is because the leaf selected him the best player in
draft i mean i just want to know like it's i mean it seems like it was a lead pick i'm trying to
look at what you think i'm trying to look up his production per game and like break it i'll break
it down into like maybe quadrants of the season people aren't happy with their joke well so he's
clearly an elite pick i'm trying to think he's got a prospects page on elite prospects which
means he's elite he's elite no there was there was a player um who didn't have the greatest season
when he was drafted but he had a really good second half and that was josh levo but even he

does that mean when not in hockey circles made huge progress this season with london
so he was 29th on their list so you audibly laughed at that or something else it's like a
hockey trade what's a hockey player like what is that guy the hockey sometimes draft guy just run
of words to ways to describe these kids and they say things like ah he's a hockey player yeah you
know and it's like you're not giving me anything that's exactly it you know it's like so you know
what there is actually something to him having a good second half he had one two three four five
he had five points in his first 12 games which sucks like when you're trying to go high in the
draft then he goes on four game point streak again three game pointless but then if you look at the
back quarter of the season it's actually pretty ridiculous like a bunch of multi-goal games a lot
of multi-point games okay listen i'm down a lot of people are saying uh that's along the same lines
of saying somebody has a high hockey iq which means you're fucking smart which means really
nothing another sense no what is it we got just the least of prioritized hockey no but that's
that's just your decision you're talking about like decision making in split second the cases
you know or following the play oh yeah they don't want any more jake gardner right or you can follow
the plays that are drawn up on the board yeah you know that you gotta circle out in a three two one
at some point i'll break these numbers down a little better but like again just quickly going
through his numbers you know what he also didn't do at the beginning of the season shoot like at
all and then by the end of the season he ended the season with five shots five shots seven shots
he was consistently getting three or three shots or more per night whereas he didn't have more than
three shots in a game until game one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve
13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 holy fuck he didn't have a game with more than four or sorry
more than three shots until december right so his first half there's something to his first half
stonk yeah and he was he must have been at the bottom half of draft boards you know if he's a
second round pick or whatever and then he looked like he could be on the edge of the first round
by the time the second half rolled around.

of Easton Cowan during the OHL finals
and the CHL coverage with break button
and this was the scouting report we had for Cowan
he was London's best player in the finals
his standout quality is competitive energy everybody's saying that he's a mix of he's
he's in in the mix everywhere not easily denied stays in the fight gritty feisty
very good skater with speed and quickness two-way threat and uh with his speed offensively and
defensively has taken significant strides forward to become a strong contributor in all areas
excellent penalty killer and creates offensive opportunities on the pk has improved significantly
over the course of the season and you know what that does happen thank you drew yeah that does
happen all the time uh and you know this is why none of us are prospect experts but that that's
kind of what makes the draft fun now this next pick from the worst team in the nhl the colorado
avalanche came from florida can you name the trade it came from florida in the color colorado has a
first round pick from florida yep hey oh via montreal he just wrecked it last season it's

it's a great shot but the goalie is very obviously just shitting their pants and like it's not a
highlight as much as it is a low light yeah it was practice for this or just the sort of highlight
that had like it's junior a yeah like that bchl is high end junior a it's the best right junior
ray you can find but that kid's hockey career is ending in the next like handful of years well
like well you never know he's playing recklessly with drew

information he had he was he had five points in five games first of all five games as a sample
size wouldn't be relevant enough information to draft a player if it happened yesterday
but the the scouts love the players who show up and they love the guys who perform well the
kalinka gretzky they love the um the what's the oh where they got all the guys in the o together
it happens like mid-season silver stick the prospects game or whatever it's called oh oh
the ohl yeah prospect chl chl sorry chl they love the top process and they love the world juniors
like they value these checkpoints a lot more than just everyday play the top prospect game is a fun
one too so i went one year it was in oshawa and john tavaris was there i think tavaris had already
been traded from oshawa to london he might have still been in general so you know he's gonna go
first overall probably but the buzz heading into that game was tavaris should not be playing there's
no reason for him to play he's gonna go first overall worst he's gonna go second overall
because there was headman as well he should not be playing what happens end of the second period
zach cassian takes him into the boards his shoulder and immediately just the whole
building is silent you could hear john on the ice like just slamming his stick like i shouldn't even
like the you can't hear what he's saying but the the undercurrent is very obviously i shouldn't
have even been playing now what was amazing about that is he didn't miss a single game he scored a
hat trick his next game unreal yeah wow we actually we got burned i didn't know that story we got
burned for that um for junior hockey magazine that junior show we used to do so we were recording
