Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, you've heard of the mansion in Kingston, Ontario, haven't you? Yes, of course. We've done a great show there. And Drew and Stu are the next ones on the SDPN crew to join everybody there. It's January 11th, which is a Sunday, and it is wild card weekend, baby. It's going to be so much fun because this NFL season is really wide open. A lot of the teams we thought would be in it have fallen off. And a lot of the teams we didn't think would be there are now amongst the leaders in the league.
Starting point is 00:00:25 So this that weekend there, Drew and Stu are in for like some really good games. And the event is sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. It'll include products. PBR. Starting point is 00:03:28 Let's go! So, today, we're going to pick, we're going to do our roster projections for the Olympics. Yeah. And I want to start this by saying that we did record this in advance. Steve really wants you to know this because he's not confident in his roster. He doesn't believe in his picks. He wants the ability to go, you know what? I changed my mind.
Starting point is 00:03:47 i just don't want to with my whole chest be like this guy has to make it and like for you he broke his leg last week or something yeah if you've been around for the sdp any number of years before this one you will know the next six episodes you will hear on monday wednesday friday and then again the next week monday wednesday friday are pre-recorded episodes from a couple weeks back and we'll be back in january with new episodes so there you go right that's right there you go you know i i so i'm i'm i'm jesse we've got our teams ready to go for canada and the united states yes okay we've made our picks how do you want to unveil the picks we're gonna do a couple things today first we're gonna take a couple questions from the audience so we're gonna
Starting point is 00:04:33 we have a little bowl here it's filled with your questions into the sdp you sent in some on twitter uh so we'll refresh the bowl for some other episodes but here's the initial questions bowl so we're gonna ask a couple of these you guys gonna pick some questions out of this hat then we're gonna take a break and do the olympic rosters in the middle okay and then we'll come back if we have time at the end to do some more questions from the audience i think steve should pick the first question i do as well okay and remember don't take his answer seriously it might change it doesn't like that it doesn't what is it like having just awful friends what did i do to her rocket yeah you're right just one um rocket man who by the way is
Starting point is 00:05:17 participating in my favorite bit of the season every time the leafs lose he knows i'm in a bad mood so he tweets the david staples piss sink at me oh that's nice to make me smile because he knows i need the really not i like that that's funny that's a good that's a funny person thank you rocket man what's the best and or worst christmas song oh best and worst the worst christmas song is the one where your mom sleeps with santa claus yeah i saw me i was playing right aggressively banging sanny claus yeah like hey i came down i saw my mom banging santa this is gonna scar me for life that's a weird song i'm gonna put that out there what about baby it's cold outside that's also the john legend version is worse than the one that's that's a concern
Starting point is 00:06:09 though because john legend because he made it recently he did a safe one no he did one that was like so that there's the original one which people were like hey that's a little bit there's a little there's some consent issues there i think everybody understands what they probably tried to mean but again the song's like 70 years old it's out of date i get it so he tried to update it with megan trainer and jesse and i had to play it and it was like during the pandemic when everything sucked and it's worse baby i think maybe it's bass outside just write a new song oh no it's it's like oh no she's like it i don't i just listen to it it's let's play it in its um i'm gonna say best jingle bell rock by uh what's her name she was 15 when she recorded that
Starting point is 00:06:55 when when that little riff starts i'm like i'm about to hear a banger i'm sorry that's bobby helms that's not the one i'm thinking of but yes bobby helms 1957 all versions of jingle bell rock are great rocking around the christmas tree is the one i thought you were also oh that's a very that good one brenda lee was 15 when she was yes yes yes i knew which one you were talking about i'm like wait that's not quite the same also a very good one probably top five okay i'm glad you guys haven't stolen mine best christmas song is wham's last christmas like i love that nothing compares to wham uh that song's the best it is good it is good it's the best i'm talking about i i have not chosen but i will tell you the wham the wham thing that's interesting i read i read
Starting point is 00:07:37 andrew ridgely who's the other member of wham i read his book because i love music history and he was talking about the fact that they were watching a soccer game in july and george was like he gets up and he's in there at his parents house he goes up to his bedroom and comes up with last christmas in about 10 minutes like that that was all and then he came up with the music whatever and then he had he didn't have all the lyrics sorted out but he had the melody done within 10 minutes and it was in july and they're watching a soccer game i just think that's amazing um uh my favorite christmas song is do they know it's christmas i love that the band-aid song love that one good one uh and the worst one is hippopotamus for christmas
Starting point is 00:08:21 uh please stop playing that it's not cute it's not funny i don't know that i want a hippopotamus for christmas yeah and you know what only a hippopotamus will do go hang out next to a volcano i honestly don't think i've ever heard that song you haven't very good no oh like it's It's been included. Wasn't it in like TELUS commercials for a while or something like that? Oh, and they had a hippo
Starting point is 00:08:45 for some reason. Yeah. I don't know. I can't stand that song. Can't stand it. I gotta listen to that. There was a weird era where TELUS's whole identity was
Starting point is 00:08:55 we let our ad team do shrooms. True, man. Very, very true. They turned that microdose into a macrodose and here's some hippos. I'd like to do a little shout out to Elton John's
Starting point is 00:09:08 Step Into Christmas too because I love that song because I also want to step into Christmas. I'm going to go with every Michael Buble song. Adam's down at the end there with the next question.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Am I taking the next one? Yeah, we're going down the row. Okay. All right. All right. Christmas questions. This is from Natasha. Not Natasha.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Natasha. Oh, I know Natasha. We all know Natasha. How did Steve come up with Hat Guy and why is it called Hat Guy? Good question. That's a great question.
Starting point is 00:09:37 So Hat Guy is called hat guy because i'm a tremendously unoriginal person and uh he's a guy who wears a hat so he's hat guy that's all hat guy is like stupid when you spell it out it's real dumb it's the greatest it's dumb but uh hat guy is a started out as dumbly fans that i was like pushing back against because i was so smart in 2007 when i was 19 it was like you all think this but i think this so that's what hat guy is but then he just he sort of over the years became the straight man to me being irrational um but all like all that is that's just my dad's impression of a drunk person is it actually yeah i've never known that that's just me doing an impression of my dad doing an
Starting point is 00:10:31 impression of a drunk person but he he does it like this and if you go and watch the early stuff that's what hat guy sounded like he did yeah he did sound like that and i just added a little zhuzh to it and so that's hat guy that's greg washinsky's favorite character by the way yeah he loves hat guy and you can tell he hasn't actually watched for a very long time because whenever he does an impression of hat guy on one of the shows he gets he's like oh i think he doesn't put this in okay he does the original that he saw on puck daddy in 2007 get good greg my favorite story about hat guy is when steve's lovely wife had to ask him oh you're still doing that that's true when did that happen she hates that guy why does she hate that guy i don't know
Starting point is 00:11:23 you follow around i think she thought it was a little childish and that you'd have given it up 20 years in because she was born in the uk and has no time for such nonsense can you retell the story of her uh questioning the existence of hat guys still as you enter your 40s i don't really how dare you you're late 40s don't really yeah at my age of 48 and a half yes um i don't really remember it in depth but i do remember it was like so like i don't know there's always been an air with her and with my parents of like hey so like sometimes we have to answer questions about your online presence and it's embarrassing and i think for her she hates that guy it's it's a little jarring for
Starting point is 00:12:19 somebody who doesn't know you because often it's the first thing that happens in the video right so if you're like hey this is steve dangle he's great he comments in hockey knows a lot and you pull up a video and they play it it's this man doing a silly impression of a guy in a hat that like what's the context here why is he doing this ridiculous voice it's very funny one day i think i'm just gonna have to kill him off like do a fake gunshot and just you know what i it's the stanley cop i've always felt if they ever left the stanley cop you have to murder hat guy with the cup i have to go now my home planet needs me yeah it's it's one of those et goes home because he's like we've accomplished the goal here it's we've won hat guy can finally go to bed sheldon keith
Starting point is 00:13:07 yeah yeah yeah i don't know he'll retire one day from the afterlife i think uh i i think he he just strikes me as the everyman like you know like the person riding the go train home going ah he was the irrational one and then he became like you should calm down yeah i think you should it's taking it he's gone through a pretty big character arc people can change you know yeah they get mature mature he's mature and i haven't i think that's a part i think that's a part of the bit you know which yeah it's funny yeah i think it's objectively good i always get a kick out of hack it's just a great cold open but do you imagine yourself in your 60s doing it i think okay i'm at a tumultuous age where it's a little cringe but eventually i'm gonna get old enough
Starting point is 00:13:55 that it's funny again yes yeah 60s that's funny 40s i don't know yeah there's definitely gonna be a flip where it comes back the other way where it's like oh my god it's so endearing like still doing that imagine like a 75 year old yeah puts his hat on sideways he's like i don't think interject should be in this roster like i like that and you got kids who are like i've been watching this guy for 40 years it and their kids of their own are watching you now it started with man i've been watching you for years then it's um i've grown up watching you and a few i've gotten a few like i've watched you my whole life yeah someone who's who like started watching when they're 10 they're 30 now and that's basically your whole life yes things
Starting point is 00:14:50 you remember i told you've been with them through their entire life i told a guy on my beer league team yeah because he was just asking questions about it we were at the bar beer league and he's like how long you've been doing this like 10 i was like 19 years he's like 19 he's like he's an older guy so i don't know how old he thinks i am but right not old enough to have been doing something for 19 years or just like what you're doing is sustainable for 19 years i don't think people of like older than us realize like yeah youtube's been around for that long content creators have been around for that long and you've been on that train putting all my chips in the youtube train in 2007 was prescient i would say looked at sideways at the time yeah but that's
Starting point is 00:15:32 because i didn't put all my chips in i was like i am also going to continue to go to school and also going to continue to get internships and work at the zoo cost me money and work at the zoo and then get jobs doing highlights and took a while yeah yeah took a while all right jesse are you answering what are we getting into this adams adams no no i i thought that was good i don't know it's good podcast well i thought we were moving on the first full lfr season of the podcast was like lfr seven yeah you've been doing it a long time yes sir all right this one's from colin bradbury it says are you watching the new hockey related show heated rivalry i haven't seen it yet i haven't seen it either i haven't seen it yet um it's i was
Starting point is 00:16:19 heavily planning on watching it because and i'm still going to just because it's such a culturally important thing and like especially considering what we do like i think we kind of have to watch it but i was talking to my wife about it i was like yeah you'll you'll like this or you might enjoy this and she texted me while i was in the middle of streaming the saturday night's game she's like i finished the first two episodes and i gotta tell you this is just smut it's a romance show right oh i no no romance is like longing and will they or won't they i guess and i get the impression it's a lot of they do um but like no i i think it's important and uh i'm gonna watch it just got renewed for season two yeah and hbo picked it up it's a big
Starting point is 00:17:12 deal big for a canadian show too oh big time i know i love everything about that but is it the type of show i would watch normally no normally no but whatever i also i have a thing uh i have a weird thing and it has nothing to do with this one in particular i can't stand any like it's very rare that i can stomach a hockey movie very rare that i can stomach a hockey portrayal stink they because it's a hard game to replicate right you can fit like i i you know you could fake a basketball team you could fake a football team but when you get people on skates it's pretty specific the ones that are good at it versus the ones that aren't and it just kills the believability because ultimately you could be a very very good hockey player and still not skate in a convincing
Starting point is 00:17:57 enough way for it to be i don't know man i'm just i'm nitpicky but i other than like the mighty ducks which is a bunch of children uh i don't really like hockey movies well like soccer basketball football you tell an actor okay run over there all right now run over there for hockey like the amount of uh high quality skaters in hollywood is real limited yeah like in terms of like the mostly most of them are canadian like steve carell i want to say played like university hockey like he played at a very high level uh outside of him like that's part of why shoresy i think is so good they do a great job of it yeah right but like well a bunch of them are former players yeah all the gyms are former players yep uh there's terry ryan obviously shorzy himself
Starting point is 00:18:50 jared kiso is real good and competent and understands the culture and everything but yeah you're right it's a difficult sport to do in media in major league i was just checking the numbers on it just make sure i had it before i was talking on my ass real quick but it is true charlie sheen in major league he was so dedicated to looking like a major league pitcher he got his fastball up to 85 miles per hour in real life shit in the movie he's throwing like 95 and stuff but when he's being filmed he's throwing 85 just so he can look like a real major league pitcher which is incredible for a dude who's not a professional baseball player to throw 85 is insane and you get an actor and you give them the same amount of time and go okay get your slap shot up to 85
Starting point is 00:19:37 no chance yeah but he was also like a fanatic baseball fanatic played it all the way growing yeah charlie sheen cared about baseball yeah still does and that's why he was perfect for that role so he was already better than average wow i would say at least dedicated to it yeah the wild thing walk out yeah and he was uh ricky wild thing vaughn that's right that was that was him in major league i thought you were saying oh wow okay no no wild thing was that was his name yeah it's a wild thing no but like that that's something i think is a lot harder to replicate in hockey shows yes you know and so that's why i get i just whenever it's like oh it's a show about hockey you're definitely gonna like it i don't care what the subject matter is i'm like
Starting point is 00:20:21 bet you i won't yeah uh and and i am gonna give apparently uh that show is mostly off ice anyway uh so i think that's the only way to do it frankly me too me too i i'm curious interesting part yeah like that that show i haven't seen it yet obviously but like i assume you don't need the hockey parts for it to be interesting no that's not the main part of it i i get that too with um some music shows like shows that aren't about music but they'll have like somebody and they're playing the guitar that's ever playing the piano you can tell when that person actually has skills and what they're doing or if they're just kind of doing guitar stuff or if they're actually playing what's supposed to be playing yeah that stuff's hard to watch but you get the
Starting point is 00:21:06 pendulum swung the complete other way and you have movies like camp rock where it's so bad that it's fun yeah true and they could play yeah like the jonas brothers could play instruments like camp rock 2 features one of our friends yeah there's one of our friends al row who is from aberdeen not the city the band who do the theme song fighting for love for lfr yeah yeah oh man Maddie, can you give me She's Really Good? She's Really Good. Oh, man. That is such a good scene.
Starting point is 00:21:39 She's DJing, and it's the worst thing that's ever happened. And then the line is, She's Really Good. That was one of my favorite childhood movies. Not like high school musical. That was like my era. You know Zac Efron didn't sing in the first one? Yeah, I heard about that. Really?
Starting point is 00:21:55 It's all overdubbed. Yeah, somebody else sang those parts. no way yeah this is second one and the third one he starts actually singing they're using his voice but first one they barely used his voice and you can if you listen close enough you can hear where his little parts of the voice that he does comes in and then the actual singer comes in to do the rest of the track wow that's fucking crazy looking up there i'm looking up um believe it or not i am looking up somebody from camp rock that was also in the white lotus who's a canadian guy because i have an sdp linked story to him and albie isn't it is it albie that you're talking
Starting point is 00:22:34 about yeah he's from oakville in real life yeah yeah we interviewed him yeah we interviewed that guy i'm sorry maddie um i forget what his actual name is albie is he albie on white lotus or albie in camp rock no he's alba albie and white lotus okay so uh and his name is adam demarco yeah so adam demarco is there's you know on tiktok they do top five cringe disney moments and there's always this scene where this guy's on stage singing a love song and then there's a girl in the crowd she just looks at it she's like oh my god it's debbie ryan from radio rumble so that that is adam demarco singing to her and adam demarco was on white lotus and he came in to do an interview with us at virgin radio and he's like hey man i listen to your show all the time
Starting point is 00:23:20 I was like, he was being actor nice. He was very cool. I'm going to tell him to say that out there before he comes across like a hardcore SDP. He's a hardcore SDP lister, Steve or Jesse. He was doing the Hollywood thing. Whatever. But we made it to the White Lotus set.
Starting point is 00:23:36 He said he had heard of us. No, he said he listened to us. I will take that to the grave. He knew stuff about us. SDP or Virgin? SDP. Because he, didn't he say he used to play hockey he grew up he grew up in oakville playing hockey like every kid in oakville yeah and hockey fan yeah fan yeah so they're hosting or something anyway shout out albie yeah uh his character
Starting point is 00:23:59 was a little creepy on the white lotus i think but uh well the white lotus is there to make you uncomfortable no he was he was the archetype of performative male yeah it was fantastically written yeah uh i love that season of white lotus were you uncomfortable he did a great job uh all I don't think it was uncomfortable. Are we doing... You should watch White Lotus, Steve, if you would like it. Are we doing the roster breakdown? You shouldn't watch anything.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Yeah, we got time here, but yeah, let's get into it. Sometimes life throws you curveballs, and you don't have time to get to them, and that's where TaskRabbit comes in, and I think you should check this out, because here's the deal. One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows, but they never clean my windows. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:24:46 And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window. You can do that yourself. And I'm like, well, hang on a second. What if I don't want to? I don't have the stuff. Because you've got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing. The chemicals. You've got to have the right chemicals.
Starting point is 00:24:58 See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I used TaskRabbit and I employed a tasker. Here's the thing. TaskRabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly, home repairs, lawn maintenance, mounting, window cleaning, all that stuff. Here's the deal. 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled. 700,000 home repairs, 1.5 million moves and counting.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list. $15 off your first task at TaskRabbit.ca or on the TaskRabbit app using the promo code DANGLE. Taskers across Canada book up fast, especially for same-day tasks. Get $15 off your first task right now with the promo code DANGLE at TaskRabbit.ca or the TaskRabbit app. You should download that. TaskRabbit.ca. Code DANGLE. Hey, look at that.
Starting point is 00:25:44 It's Puffer Jacket Jesse. it is puffer jacket jesse and puffer jacket jesse not only dresses like a vip but he is he lives the vip lifestyle with fabletics oh wow hanging out damn hanging out here on my puffer i'm gonna go to vest i'm gonna go to the rink i'm gonna be warm but i'm also going to overpower you with my masculineness and be stylish and be able to move freely because this is indeed active wear that's the kind of vest you wear when you run for like vice president very true it is very politician like not president no yeah vice the vice best part about it too if you're like me and you overheat it's all really breathable stuff yeah it is soft it's durable
Starting point is 00:26:25 it's great for workouts or travel or everyday wear or running for office as the case may be jesse blake fabletics already has amazing deals but right now uh they're running one of their largest sales of the year on top of that if uh we got the exclusive offer 80 off everything when You sign up as a VIP like Jesse. Head to Fabletics.com slash SDP. Sign up as a VIP to get 80% off everything. Everything. This is only available through the link.
Starting point is 00:26:50 So, Fabletics.com slash SDP. Sign up to be a VIP. Get 80% off. That is Fabletics.com slash SDP. How do you want to handle this rollout, Jess? Because do we go line by line? Sure. To each person?
Starting point is 00:27:05 We should probably do forwards defense goal. Do that. Okay. All right. So why don't we start with Steve Dangle? Because he's at the top of the list anyway. My top line trio is the trio that was on the ice for Canada when they won the Four Nation faceoff.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Braden Point, Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner. I think that's a good one. Jesse, you want me to go next? I would just do the entire forward group because I'm not too fussed about the line competition. Oh, okay. Because everybody can play everywhere. I think just give me your 12 forwards.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Well, here's the way I set it up. Braden Point, Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner. sydney crosby nathan mckinnon sam reinhardt brandon hagel anthony sorelli mark stone and i want to take a minute on mark stone whenever we get a chance this line's insane brad marshand sam bennett uh tom wilson uh beau horvat and macklin celebrini as extras i have another name but that's only if mark stone is injured so we'll leave it jesse doesn't want to do injury no because i don't why are you saying marston's gonna be injured because he's played 14 games he scored two goals last night oh yeah and then he's yeah but this was a week ago jesse yeah like
Starting point is 00:28:15 he could already be hurt on on d i got or do you want to do forwards now i think we all do forwards we all do d and then we all do okay you do forward go all right i'll do mine we take out what what is your thing take out your asterix on stone i hate that okay great so it was no jarvis okay i got reinhardt mcdavid marner crosby mckinnon stone hegel point sorelli marshan bennett wilson bedard celebrini i love that you brought bedard in so those are my four yeah hell yeah i like that hell it's crazy to me that that is very likely going to be the fourth line so are the differences in the two of us is you have beau horvat and i have bedard bedard and that's the only difference i believe horvat has been so good and i think he would be so useful
Starting point is 00:29:06 i think you could use him anywhere in the bottom six i think it's because bull horvat doesn't have that experience already with team canada it's okay to leave him off and it's more important to get bedard in there for the experience because he's going to be the centerpiece of the team for the next 40 olympics yeah i don't i don't hate that adam you can bring in yours now uh i'm gonna go because I've been so impressed with his return but maybe a week from now I won't be Zach Hyman, Connor McDavid, Mitch Marner. Wow
Starting point is 00:29:37 Nathan McKinnon, Sidney Crosby, Brandon Hagel, Celebrini Suzuki, Reinhardt. Oh my goodness Point, Horvat, Wilson and my two extras are Bedard and Marchand and Sam Bennett will not make this fucking team and I'm afraid by not including
Starting point is 00:29:54 Sam Bennett that I'm going to piss them off enough that they're going to go win another cup. Reigning con smart so adam yours is the one that strays most from four nations and steve and i's yes so you're leaving off bennett uh sorelli yeah and but oh no but dard's there too dard is there and you're bringing horvat who else are you missing out of our uh let me have a look here yes no sorelli obviously i didn't i didn't pick seth jarvis either nothing against him but i don't think he's been good enough i also didn't pick like steve has mark stone i don't oh you don't at all that all see that's i think wrong well the reason i've been insane the reason i haven't picked him
Starting point is 00:30:35 is because i think he's going to be injured and uh i worry about your body breaking down and i am a student of the 2006 canadian olympic team that should have won and they invited joe sakic and steve eiserman and both of them were broken you need to have younger guys the season what What happened in February, it's nice. It doesn't matter now. What matters is right now. If their bone and ligament structure allows them to stand, they're going. Can I do counterpoint on the Mark Stone, what's happening right now?
Starting point is 00:31:08 Yeah, sure. As of this recording on December 12th, he's played 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 consecutive games since being out. he was out uh october 18th came back november 26th eight consecutive games since the coming back sure in those eight games he has an eight game point streak he has scored four goals and he has uh four five six seven assists what if i don't like his face he has four goals seven assists scored in every game since he's been back too bad that is 24 points in the 14 games he's played maybe don't get hurt if we're talking about guys right now playing well mark stones should be at
Starting point is 00:31:57 the top of the list see i think you have i i i think you have reinhardt to do the stuff that mark stone can do i think you have hagel to do the stuff that mark stone can do i i think i think it's time to yield mark stone time to yield i think i over complicated my line like i might move stone up to where reinhardt is and drop reinhardt down it's just you have so many selkie quality players and that's what i was trying to do with the third line there um so i have hagel stone you could just as easily move stone up to mckinnon and crosby and have friggin reinhardt down there with sorelli and hagel that's crazy it is crazy or you could have stone with mcdavid and marner see i don't have points you could have an all tampa line but that was bad at four nations
Starting point is 00:32:43 it was surprisingly not effective yeah you can then have point with Crosby and McKinnon and then drop Reinhardt down to Hagel Sorelli while Stone goes up to top line left wing uh now and as much as I believe that Anthony Sorelli will be on the team ultimately even though I didn't pick him um because John Cooper is John Cooper and he apparently has a huge say in who they're bringing which makes sense yes I think that there are better options than Anthony Sorelli for this lineup and great they ain't coming uh yeah i know and that's why i have nick suzuki in there although i do wonder if he's going to make it there has been tension between him and the team canada brass they're pissed that he doesn't keeps not going to world championships he was left off the four
Starting point is 00:33:25 nations roster i think he's too good to leave off and what i love about nick suzuki and he not he does not get enough credit of the for this outside of montreal is he's he can give you everything Anthony Sorelli does and score. Anthony Sorelli's got 18 points this year as of this recording, which is great. Nick Suzuki's got way more. It's not elite offensive. And so if you ask
Starting point is 00:33:48 Nick Suzuki to play with, I have him like I didn't name the lines as they should have been, but it's pretty clear Tom Wilson's going to make it, right? After you do this, I think we should talk about Wilson because, yeah, we all agree on that. Imagine your line is your third line, your shutdown
Starting point is 00:34:04 line is Suzuki, Hagel, reiner or hyman you know like you can switch those guys in i really like that i feel like they've got uh a lot of options on that which is why i didn't think you needed mark stone as much especially because i don't think he's going to make it they're healthy um i really don't i really don't like how many ltir's do we need before hey this is an ltir guy uh but your team has zach hyman on it that's what i'm saying who just got here right yeah but he he has been notoriously extremely healthy throughout his career that's a shocker that you have hyman on the team i don't think suzuki suzuki yeah i think that's a really good point for suzuki over sorelli i don't think
Starting point is 00:34:42 in a john cooper world that is gonna exist and i think i think for the sake of the team it's probably better with sorelli and cooper but the suzuki case on paper makes total sense 34 points in uh 30 games compared to the 18 that you have there and then you say yeah his abilities are just as good it's a good point there's he can kill the penalty and score all all the teams from the four nation face off are fascinating finland is the one outlier because they basically didn't get to bring the team that they wanted and they won't this year either so sweden had a pretty good team and in order to make the team now you've got to push someone out yep and then there's the two teams that did better than sweden they have their minds made up you have to make them look
Starting point is 00:35:29 like idiots and i think more guys on team usa did that i don't think suzuki's done enough i and a guy like celebrini has the case for doing enough like i think several players have forced team canada's hand and suzuki it looked like it at the beginning of the season he was a monster in october he's not there i don't think the team's there though right and i and i don't know if you can put that all on him i think his play has continued to be good and and steve you know like i agree with you on celebrini i think he's but i to say that it might be between the two of them or that role i think celebrini is a winger on this team i think he gets into a couple of games and i like you know we as of this recording the leafs have just played the sharks um i really
Starting point is 00:36:16 like his defensive play he always gets back they could put him in a role like that and he probably wouldn't be out of place this is a learning experience like if celebrini gets in against Latvia you know because Latvia always gives Canada a really hard time or whoever they're playing you know uh fine I don't think you're gonna play a guy like that necessarily in a high leverage matchup versus a Finland Sweden USA right and I think those games against the Latvians of the world are perfect for the young kids because you know they're gonna be giving the effort when the older guys might not be there mentally because yeah they're looking at the opponent so I feel like yeah bringing the kids is perfect for those opportunities yep yep it's uh so should we move
Starting point is 00:37:01 on to defense or the tom wilson thing oh i think it's interesting that there's a consensus now amongst the three of us and the majority of the hockey world that he should be on the team and will be on the team i think he would have been last year but he was hurt on the four nations yeah he was either hurt for a significant portion of the season or he was hurt when the tournament actually showed up you replace him with a guy who's having an unreal season who plays you know similar style is that jarvis you mean no uh travis connect oh yeah who i don't yeah i mean he's just annoying right he's obviously not nearly as big as wilson wilson's having the best season of his career easily he's on pace for like what 90 points he's 32 and 31 in terms of points right as this
Starting point is 00:37:43 recording he's never been a point to game player in his career good for him the closest he's come in a full season has been 65 and 81, which was the last season. So the hurt thing that doesn't really add up because he played 81 games last season. Oh, what the fuck? Yeah. Well, what did he put up? 33 goals, 32 assists,
Starting point is 00:38:03 65 points. I think it's just they didn't. That's odd. They had different guys that they wanted. I think with Tom Wilson. 81 games. Tom Wilson against the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, as shitty as that series was. Sorry Canadians and Caps fans, but it was was an
Starting point is 00:38:19 an absolute problem and when we're talking about the olympic size rank being four feet even shorter and the neutral zone is going to be even shorter so it won't be the end zones that are but i i think tom wilson in a in a double ihf size rank maybe you don't bring tom wilson but i think in a less than nhl sized rank you absolutely must bring him he's huge he's scary he's going to what is what does paul maurice always say loves to pound the d loves you know what i mean he loves to pound the d pound the d to submission i think you need a guy like that but you don't again have to play him every game right that's a guy where you go i'm saving you for the high leverage situations i'll put celebrini in against i don't know team italy uh i could easily see them just sitting the
Starting point is 00:39:07 whole fourth line what do you mean like marsh and bennett wilson yeah and marsh and you need to have in there i think is the vibes guy yeah like if he gets into a couple every game no and and i don't think he needs to but you can't martian i think was the attitude of the canadian team the the the skill and the scoring is going to go through connor mcdavid and sydney crosby and i'm hoping crosby's actually healthy this time he's been healthy all year but you know at that age you don't know he wasn't healthy at all last year but was still a factor you get a healthy sydney Crosby next to a healthy Nathan McKinnon behind a healthy Connor McDavid it's going to be scary and I think there's that that the the role player guys like a Martian it's not going to be his job
Starting point is 00:39:54 to be the leader let those guys lead quietly let Brad kind of take the air out of the room a little bit and just everybody relax let's have a good time we've all been here before except for celebrating who has not um and do you guys do you guys all put bedard on your team because i know i did i know jesse did you did not so my team is a combination of what i would do and what i think they're gonna do okay he ain't making it wow really wow he's so friggin good like again like okay i don't know if any of the three of us if it was just up to us to come up with this roster from scratch i don't know if any of us have sorelli on this team is john cooper my head coach yeah i wouldn't yes i have him on my team okay how about you're right i would not put him on
Starting point is 00:40:42 the video game and your coach is random npc with no face uh-huh sorelli doesn't make this team no probably not and neither does point a point was already named to the team i have braden point on my team yeah he's historically been an incredible playoff player he's not having a very good season he's not no points wise this year point hasn't been putting up the points but i would have brayden point on my olympic team there's definitely a scenario where like horvat or celebrini gets in over sorelli and then maybe that opens up a space for badard to be an extra and then if point comes off the team too then now you're talking about badar might even be in the lineup but i just don't think he's going to be there interesting i i think he's one of the
Starting point is 00:41:33 extras i think the two extras are the kids celebrini and badard if horvat is hurt and he was hurt last night but they're not sure how that's going to go yeah i think you kind of have to bring badard okay now do we move to defense gentlemen yes on team canada we'll start with steve dangle then we'll go to jesse taves mccarr theodore pareko uh harley dowdy morrissey sanheim i have taves mccarr morrissey theodore harley dowdy sanheim pareko wow so we have the same eight guys i believe so just different people in the lineup got it i'm going to tell you what i'm doing tase mccarr we do yeah theodore harley schaefer doughty wow chikrin sanheim chikrin chikrin's having a crazy underrated pick and he's a bastard total dick so he's an interesting one
Starting point is 00:42:35 so he's born in america but he's listed as a canadian but he's listed as a canadian um i don't know if team canada even has access but i'm putting him in and you hate Dallas oh no you have Harley oh I have Harley I love Harley okay so who did you leave off uh Morrissey I think they have enough of what Morrissey brings you hate Winnipeg
Starting point is 00:42:56 no I don't but I think you've got McCarr Theodore and Dowdy on that roster already along with Matthew Schaefer I don't I think it's like you can't have Morrissey and Schaefer and you need to have different styles of play and there's nothing against Josh Morrissey I think
Starting point is 00:43:12 he's a phenomenal hockey player but at a certain point as I keep saying you must make room for some of the new generation I think it's important that Celebrini goes I think it's important that Bedard goes Matthew Schaefer is having a historic rookie season you reward that you put him on the
Starting point is 00:43:29 roster if he plays 10 minutes the entire tournament he's lucky and you keep you put him in there you have to have him there you need these guys to have this experience because in 2030 those three guys are going to be the three keys to the and you don't like Colton Pareko he's on there oh no he's not yeah Cole Pareko's I think he's a very good that was my nightmare
Starting point is 00:43:48 coming up with this roster I was like I'm gonna love it and then I'm gonna leave off someone stupid I left off Pareko I shouldn't have but you know what I'll go with Sanheim damn it I'll double down uh that's a guy that looks good on a bad team that's really hard to do as it is I just those are two guys who I don't think were in the final they were not I can't remember or know one of them must break it was because uh Theodore was out yeah was it Sanheim or Morrissey I can't remember um I just it seemed like both fell out of favor a bit uh special mention to Cody Cece who is a Canadian and will be on this roster very likely okay uh any I like I feel like the defense is a little bit more um a little bit more stationary for for Canada right like you kind
Starting point is 00:44:38 With the exception of a couple of picks on my end, basically, we're all the same. Yeah, the Four Nations roster was Doughty, Makar, Morrissey, Pareko, Sanheim, Theodore, Taves. So that's our... Theodore got hurt, so Harley came in. And then, yeah, so that's our seven.
Starting point is 00:44:55 So who did I leave out entirely, then? They have seven on the Four Nations, and then Harley was added, as Adam said. Oh, so I have them all. So we have the same eight people who were assigned to the Canada Four Nations team. steve and i did yeah um i honestly think like they settled on a good eight and i don't think there's any reason now to go away from those eight that's why i picked those eight it's not
Starting point is 00:45:18 like the forward group where i think guys have outplayed or underperformed like the sorelli's and if you want me to make a point in the bedard and celebrini to me schaefer it's his first year and i don't think we look at him the same as the way we look at celebrini where it's like oh he's here now he's arrived like for me Schaefer just needs more time to grow into what he is before I'm picking him over a guy like Morrissey or Sanheim or Pareko so that's why I don't think he can crack that eight just yet my thing with him is that he's playing top line when it minutes with them so to make his case he's playing top line minutes with the Islanders he's getting the hardest matchups every night he's succeeding in those roles playing over 22 minutes a night like
Starting point is 00:46:03 And again, you could add him to a four nations thing. You can add him to a World Cup in 2028, whatever's happening next. But I don't think you can give him an experience quite like the Olympics. And I feel like that's going to be really important to his development. And as part of the Team Canada development program,
Starting point is 00:46:21 you need one defenseman who's young. A lot of these guys are going to be still good when the next Olympics roll around, let's be honest. but outside of like like i feel like next olympics are they belong to harley and they belong to schaefer it's crazy to me that schaefer if he were to make it would go from playing 17 ohl games to playing like 90 games between the nhl and the olympics and then if the islanders make the playoffs you're going over a hundred potentially like wild he's 18 i'm fast got the energy yeah uh it's it's no one's immortal i i'm curious how he how he's performing later this year and like
Starting point is 00:47:07 for me this isn't the like team canada development games it's the team canada win a gold medal games and so i'm bringing the vets who are like established in the middle of their career like the guys here were listening they're all like 29 and 30 it's not like they're all drew dowdy where they're all old win this year's tournament it's it's it's mccarr and taves who are in the prime of their career and if you want the young kid for me is harley and like we got the one spot for him and and that's and then we move on and schaefer can get the next olympics there you go there you go now listen fanatics is the place to go if you need jerseys check out the stadium season or stadium season stadium game jersey for the florida panthers we like it we
Starting point is 00:47:49 love seth jones uh we don't love seth jones we don't love seth jones but look how great is this jersey i think this is cool i gotta say people are hating on all the stripes i love this i'm often not a fan of stripes i like it yeah i also love the throwback panther yeah the cat is cute yeah so we love that also jesse and steve are wearing the lululemon activewear the elevated fanatics uh uh wear that you can buy and by the way you can get this i mean they have tronomy beliefs obviously but you can get this in any any city you want uh which is really really cool so If they have an NHL team. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Yeah. You can't get one for Peoria. I'm sorry. Lululemon Time Fanatics NHL Collection is awesome. It's a little bit more subtle, so you can wear it to Christmas dinner and not feel bad about that. I feel like, Jesse, you could wear that to your Christmas dinner. Oh, yeah. I'd wear this to the rink.
Starting point is 00:48:38 That's the main point to wear the quarter zip. Yeah. You get out there. Let's go. Keep skating, Leo. In my quarter zip from Lululemon Fanatics. Bang the glass real hard. Skate, Leo!
Starting point is 00:48:49 Skate! Whether you're looking for an official jersey, a classic team hat, or the absolute peak premium comfort gear, Fanatics is your destination. Check out the entire world of NHL merchandise, including the newest sleek Lululemon NHL collection available for 32 teams.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Head over to fanatics.com and gear up with the best. Okay, now, Team USA, gentlemen. Steve, start with your roster. You're forgetting the goaltender. Oh, the goaltender. Yeah, whatever. All right, goaltender, Steve. Start with Team Canada's goaltenders.
Starting point is 00:49:18 oh i thought we were doing i know i i know i missed i forgot that we mentioned we didn't mention goaltenders we'll go through okay uh i think a few weeks ago i had bennington kemper wedgwood uh i'm gonna go bennington kemper thompson i will agree with you on that jesse what about you i have gone with bennington thompson wedgwood no kemper no kemper at all interesting give me give me the guy who's performing the best wow damn okay yeah he's on the best team performing the best interesting if goalie's about hot hand i want the guy who's the hottest anything to the idea that wedgewood is not even the best goalie on the avalanche he's the best goalie playing for the avalanche right now right okay okay that's how i look at
Starting point is 00:50:06 and he knows how to play behind tase and mccarr which is helpful yeah he knows what a defenseman going to do that that is actually helpful i'm like i'm not kidding here's how you do it you're doing great all right let's go to team usa up front steve dangle who do you have gensel eichel hughes kachuk matthews kachuk so brady matthews matthew i believe that top six is identical to the one they went into the gold medal game with here's where it gets squirrely larkin centering a line with matt boldy and jason robertson trochek centering a line with kyle connor and tage thompson brock nelson and chris kreider are my extras huh i like that interesting brock nelson you still have him on the team
Starting point is 00:50:56 oh yeah wow all right i don't have to no you don't but i also that's where it's a combination of here's what i do and here's what i think they're gonna do uh notably missing jt miller jesse blake i included jt miller uh because he is the glue that holds every team he's on together everybody no bs uh if you have a jt miller on your team you're gonna have a good team kachuk matthews kachuk robertson eichel jt wow genzel hughes crider connor larkin boldy nelson thompson my extras okay i think we had the exact same group of except for crider oh jesse you have i don't have trocek yeah oh you took out true screw that i love any great i love Trocek, but no. Oh, he's been really
Starting point is 00:51:53 good. He just hasn't played very much because he got hurt. Yeah, you know, he's bad. We'll see. I love Vinny Trocek. Vinny Trotz? I love Vinny Trotz. Adam, is he on your team? Nope, and I don't have JT Miller either. Brady, Jack Eichel, Matthew Kachuk, obviously.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Nyes, Matthews, Jack Hughes. Nyes! Nyes needs to be on Team USA. Kyle Connor, Tage Thompson, Cole Caulfield. Caulfield! So I want, mostly because I want to see tage thompson and cole caulfield skate next to each other i think that that will be fun it will uh it's like shack next to danny devito uh and then on the fourth line keller larkin and
Starting point is 00:52:31 tuck and my two extras are gensel even though i hate his face and matt boldy oh boldy will not be an extra he's been so the one the one thing you i think you're gonna say it's a mess up and you probably should switch it jason robertson's not on the team i don't i don't have jason robertson on the team that you're fine with that yep because you don't think they're going to do it or i don't think they're going to do jason robertson on the team i think he wants he's performed well enough i i get that i think they want heavier for checking bill garren has alluded to this that's why i put math matthew nye's in there they need a power forward option other than brady and matthew no disrespect to matthew kuchuk brady's back and he's been i don't get the logic at all uh matthew
Starting point is 00:53:09 kuchuk uh we don't know what he's going to look like when he comes back so you're going to need other options right listen he was please leave jason robertson at home we're in camp i love jason robertson i think he's an amazing hockey player but this is the same team that was like you know what kyle connor you take a seat matthew kachuk's gonna come out and play seven and a half minutes for us in the final less less yeah i i i think they are really really really doubling down on being heavy and hard to play against in terms of um their physicality i think that they'll look at a guy like uh austin matthews they'll look at jack hughes if he's healthy again if jack hughes isn't healthy jason robertson's on this team that's why i also put
Starting point is 00:53:53 cole caulfield in there because you got a little bit of tiny scoring but most of these guys are heavy and big did any of us have clayton keller yes i do oh you did yeah fourth one but doesn't matter where you put him i like clayton keller a lot why alex tuck over jason roberts because alex tuck plays a role belligerent he's belligerent and he's a good defensive forward you can have him in your bottom six you can have him killing penalties you can have him doing stuff that um you can't have some of these other guys do so i think alex tuck is underrated as an american forward i like alex tuck a lot are you aware that robertson's on pace for 51 goals i am Cole Caulfield, shout out to Montreal.
Starting point is 00:54:33 Last year, Tage Thompson scored 44 honest-to-God goals and was left off the team entirely. So I think Jason Robertson should be on this team. I agree. But as a Canadian, no, he's bad. I prefer my view, which is they lose to Canada. The Brock Nelson one, I'm looking at my roster. I'm unsure about that.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Can you convince me, Steve, why Brock Nelson should be on this team? Otherwise, I might remove him. Do you guys have Boldy on your team? i do yeah i do i think he's got to be there yeah yeah no he's he's been incredible yeah uh brock nelson i think excels will excel in a game where the ice is not as big um high pressure kind of leverage certainly he's played lots of playoff hockey um he his hair looks old but his game does not um people were so mean to him during the four days they were like his hair this guy i was buddy him him next to uh him next to connor hellebuck they look like civil war
Starting point is 00:55:34 veterans he looks like he fought in world war one yeah like it's kind of crazy the two of them like they just look like old men from you know when they used to have to sit still for an hour for the picture to process you i say you there referee that was a slash i do declare look at that picture what year is this that's a normal looking man if you make this black and white that might be from the 30s now i'm just imagining like bugs bunny like do do do do do do do do do like drums and everything that's terrible we're terrible also their olympic jerseys are way better uh team jerseys are always sick yeah i don't know i'm like that's the one slot i'm kind of unconvinced on is the brock nelson piece and adam you don't have them on your team at all i don't i don't
Starting point is 00:56:26 because i do think they've got better options eichel matthews tage thompson dylan larkin just alone and then you could you could again assuming jack hughes is healthy you can slot him in at center too um i don't know man to me it's like uh all of those guys that i just named are better hockey players than brock nelson jack hughes is such a monkey wrench because he's like on your top line or like he might not be there yeah yeah but he's the reason the devils suck if he does it's because he's not playing that's what i'm saying he's so good that the devils can't win a game without him and they have torpedoed as of this recording as of this record yeah they probably won five straight but if if jack hughes is on this american olympic team versus him not
Starting point is 00:57:11 being on it depending upon his health dude like i think it almost hinges on him because he's such an x factor he's such an x factor for them he's so good imagine it works out the way you have it where matthews is playing with nize and instead of max domi it's jack hughes oh my god listen i hear the pick i know is not going to make the team is caulfield i'm just telling you He ain't making it. I know. Nize isn't your pick that you know? No, I think Nize is making it.
Starting point is 00:57:43 I think Nize should be on the team. Guys, Nize is among the NHL leaders in five-on-five assists. He should absolutely... And his physical presence, they don't have... Like, when you look at the American roster, based on pure power forwards, Canada's got, I would say, like one true blue power forward, Tom Wilson, right?
Starting point is 00:58:04 If you're USA, you can roll two. brady kachuk true power forward matthew nice true power forward there are only so many of these players in the league and if if the usa is is tilting heavy i think matthew nice is on the team he does have a point i don't think it works out that way but i do think you have a point listen you guys can both buy me matthew nice usa jerseys when he makes it i would never be rooting for team usa in the olympics so everybody out there i will be streaming their games yes he's gonna be rooting for them actively yeah turncoat that's what they call me adam turncoat wild yeah um anyway okay now let's get into defense because i think this makes it very
Starting point is 00:58:45 very interesting uh steve go ahead noah hannifin and adam fox are my scratches quinn hughes charlie mcavoy zach warensky brock faber jacob slavin jake sanderson the jakes and uh yeah noah hannifin and adam fox okay jesse blake we have the same eight except i have wierenski mcavoy slaven fox hughes faber sanderson hannifin scratched sanderson hannifin oh yeah i don't hate that all right fox did cost him the tournament but i i think he should be in the opening uh game lineup so i here's what i think i think adam fox shouldn't necessarily be on this roster and i think no hannifin should at all maybe not maybe not has not played all that great guys who goes in there well so i have him on the roster this is propaganda i have him on the roster but i'm just
Starting point is 00:59:45 saying uh i've left off a notable name i'm trying to think if the leafs have any american defenseman i like who did morgan riley is he secretly an agent adam hayes an agent dallas and jason robertson he hates winnipeg and josh morris okay everybody i leave off you guys are like well you instantly hate that city you know what no you asked me to make some picks i'm telling you how i would build this team seth jones yeah it's entertaining seth jones seth jones is not on this team no i think he's a very very good hockey player he's not on this team who you got so i got slavin mcavoy assuming mcavoy's healthy again uh warrenski sanderson because obviously quinn hughes brock favor duh adam fox even though i think it should be noah hannifin and lane hudson's
Starting point is 01:00:27 dad no i'm kidding uh jackson lacombe that's crazy i thought you were going lane hudson and then you said jackson lacombe jackson lacombe oh adam's going duck propaganda no you guys went duck with crider yeah no he's first of all he's a ranger yeah no he's a ranger what are you talking about every goal he scores for them i'm like yeah all right so here's how i look at it doesn't count It's weird. It's still weird. I want Canada to bring Matthew Schaefer. I want the United States to bring Jackson Lacombe. You got to look at the future of the program. Who's the biggest part of the future of this program currently on the USA roster on my team? Sanderson, Lacombe. Those two guys are going to be key to the next World Cup, next Olympics. You need somebody there who's young, who's sort of earned it, a little bit of a surprise, who's going to get some experience. That's what I think. And by the way, because Jackson Lacombe plays in Anaheim, he doesn't get the national attention that he should. If Jackson Lacombe was a Boston Bruin, that people would be raving about this guy. He, to me, is a sleeper outside, not going to win it, but going to get votes pick eventually for like Norris's and stuff like that until he really arrives.
Starting point is 01:01:43 I think that this is a guy that in the future, there's going to be a lot of Jackson Lacombe jerseys walking around everywhere. I love him. can you tell your duckaganda what's wrong with my duckaganda is no i gotta say i respect it what i really respect your duck is is faber not good enough for your young guy i've got faber there yeah so shouldn't you be leaning on him as the young guy plus like sanderson faber quinn hughes is 26 he's got three olympics and i got him on there too you're just going all surprised he's that old i thought he was younger than that yeah he's been around a long time though yeah he got in he got into the league young early yeah one name i saw out there that i thought i'd
Starting point is 01:02:29 bring up because i considered it if you really want a defensive defenseman to stay home and do defense brett pesci i don't hate that pesci slavin that's good that's a really good shutdown if you just want we don't need another offensive defenseman because we have 80 of them just bring brett pesci and that's solid this is part of why i'm like i'm looking at canada i'm looking at morrissey and i'm like that's why i didn't put him on i was thinking about switching out pesci for like hannifin hannifin's such a big listen it was hard for me to leave him off but he's such a big body i think these are the eight i think america's got to take in my opinion adam differs adam thinks morgan riley should be on the american he should be on the american team yeah uh you know we can
Starting point is 01:03:13 miss the net for america i thought the best defenseman in the whole tournament last time was jake slavin yo yeah the best like if there was a defenseman of the tournament it was slave i would have given him player of the tournament if usa wins 100 he was amazing yeah he was amazing it was his coming out party everyone's like oh he can really play defense which is hilarious because like he's been to the eastern conference finals a couple times like have you not nobody watches the carolina yeah how'd they do though but they got there they got there and yeah but i'm not like you know what they're getting swept but that guy looks fucking awesome hey but when they got swept it didn't feel like a swept said rod brandon oh my god sweep oh my god all right
Starting point is 01:03:53 goalie goalie steve dangle uh he hasn't i don't know if he's played a game yet this season uh since he got hurt uh connor hellebuck jake ottinger jeremy swayman don't overthink it that's what they had last time okay jesse i have the same three i think they just run it back i I don't think they want to think about it. Adam, why are you special in you? Why did you pick Anthony Stoller's and Dennis Hildeby for Team USA? I picked Joe Walt. No, I'm kidding.
Starting point is 01:04:29 Hildeby, right? No. Hellebuck. Jake Ottinger. Dustin Wolf. I don't hate that at all. Dustin Wolf got the shitty-ass Calgary Flames to 96 points last year. And I know they're shittier this year.
Starting point is 01:04:46 But he got them to believe that they were good. They're shittier this year in part because he hasn't been as good. He can't be as good for that long. Dustin Wolf, man, he's the future of the program. He's never going to play. He's not playing at these Olympics. He's not. As a third, like having him there for the experience, I don't hate it.
Starting point is 01:05:04 But Swayman is just such a loose guy. What's Dustin Wolf's save percentage this season? Oh, it's probably back. Eight. Eight. Is there a zero in front of that eight? Eight, eighty, eight. Eight, ninety-seven.
Starting point is 01:05:21 Devin Cooley has outplayed him with a nine, twelve. Shoot. I believe. Yeah, but how many games has Devin Cooley played versus? Oh, even better. Nine, fourteen. That is not how I thought the flame season was going to go. I didn't either.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Nah, no. When we were talking about their season preview, I was like, yo if uh dustin wolf isn't great or gets hurt they're screwed and then devin cooley's like we're all gonna die and also i'm a good goalie and they are screwed sitting in last that's his whole thing yeah he's like oh one day we're all gonna die i love that quote it's good yeah anyway only team below the flames in the standings the vancouver canucks there you go hell of a division yeah go dustin wolf that's why i pick him dustin wolf yeah i I think you got to have a young guy in there.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Ottinger is not old. I'm just saying. Swayman ain't old either. No, he's not. I think he was 26. Yeah, sure. I like Jeremy Swayman, but he's a Bruin. So it's going to be Dustin.
Starting point is 01:06:23 27. Screw him. Just turned 27 in November. So he's a future of the program guy. 9-13 this season. They've been good. They've been real good. Cool.
Starting point is 01:06:33 That's great. That goalie trio. Nothing's competing with that. they do have the best goalies in the tournament i think if russia was in it russia would have the better goalies uh vasilevsky shisterkin bob yeah jesus christ that's if vasilevsky would be healthy because he's been on and off the ir that gives a shit who's healthy like i guess yeah he's just there and he's like in he's got a walker who can make the third goalie uh i think shisterkin starting no see that's hilarious over the guy who won back-to-back Stanley Cups but Bobrovsky's not
Starting point is 01:07:10 been as good this year because he's played a lot of hockey but if it comes down to big game performances Bobrovsky it's Bobrovsky it's Bob or Vasilevsky and Shostakhin doesn't get a yeah he's three that's nuts if the highest paid goalie of the three didn't get a sniff can you imagine Vasilevsky is the highest paid of those three Vasilevsky and Bobrovsky are hall of famers today yeah today you i think i think shisterkin's the third goalie man oh and you know what i love too about the russian teams is the politicking behind the scenes like sometimes they'll pick a guy because they didn't pick another guy because they're like yeah well he flipped off the coach once 20 years ago sometimes they'll dangle him out of the window yeah yeah they're
Starting point is 01:07:52 crazy they're freaking crazy flimsy windows yeah i don't know windows just seem to break yeah and helicopters seem to be flying over the ocean and dropping people out weird when does this happen so the 2010 olympics what the everyone knows how it ended for canada but generally considered their one let's go generally considered their best game of the tournament was their ass kicking of russia in the quarterfinals and we were sitting i was sitting in almost the exact same seats i ended up sitting in for the gold medal game about a week later but we were sitting behind a contingent of like half a dozen people who
Starting point is 01:08:30 clearly worked for Team Russia. Oh, they were not happy. They weren't happy for the first goal. They weren't happy for the second one. They weren't happy for the third one. Anyway, it goes all the way up to seven. Okay, they weren't happy. Steven, one question from the bowl
Starting point is 01:08:46 before we wrap. Oh, a handwritten one. Which arena or stadium any sport arena or stadium would be your dream fat guy corner hmm you know i watched the clip the other day that one's from maddie that's a mad oh there you go uh i watched the clip the other day uh it's got to be little caesars right yeah it's got to be like i felt
Starting point is 01:09:21 tingles all over the place looking at the food they're serving up at Detroit Red Wings games. Yeah. Hard to disagree. You know what I've kind of discovered?
Starting point is 01:09:34 Those old-timey foods that the stadiums will sell that are like name-branded. So I'm thinking Fenway Franks and Dodger Dog. Yes. Overrated as hell. Yes.
Starting point is 01:09:49 i've had a fenway frank it's fucking it's a hot dog it's a hot dog with sliced bread that's what it is it is nothing special yep same with the dodger dog it's a hot dog it just has great branding and the new places where they're like here's the fucking carnival food that's what you want you or you want to go to the place that's like here's your high-end pulled pork burger here's your restaurant quality stuff and anybody trying to sell you on old timey sports things that just means it's old and it sucks jesse you and i went to yankee stadium and they didn't sell the yet that data burger they sold fries parm oh garlic they're so good here's a bucket for you piggy they sell the chicken finger buckets where you get 40 fucking chicken fingers for like 10
Starting point is 01:10:46 dollars yeah they're incredible and you don't even interact with uh the person at the till in english you just walk up with your card and go and they know what you want yeah you make your little piggy noises and then you grunt you oink at them yeah and then you give your food the the one that i would answer this for i want to go to mercedes-benz stadium in atlanta and do a smorgasbord of all of their five dollar and four dollar foods you know they have the the fan pricing i think they call it where everything in there is cheap i want to go in there and get fifty dollars worth of food that's just everything that'd be the most fun i think experience is the cowboys is it 18 what do they what do they call yeah jerry jerry world yeah i want to go to jerry world yeah
Starting point is 01:11:32 i feel like the food there is going to be incredible it's the whole it's the home of you know smoky barbecue everything i'm sure the menu is insane um and by the way speaking of old timey baseball things that taste like shit uh cracker jacks by peanuts and cracker jacks cracker jacks taste like ass yeah um but it was the 1930s and that was what was available yeah don't eat fucking anything that's like that that's that's a perfect one so you don't care if they ever come back i don't know no i don't root root for no they modeled it after ass yeah what they did the tester you know he's like this doesn't taste enough like ass make it more taste like Can you make it taste worse, please?
Starting point is 01:12:08 All the asses I've tasted were a little more nutty. Clip that. Clip it. They were a little more caramelly, too. Anything old-timey at a ballpark is not worth it. It just has the nostalgia to it so people still have it. Cracker Jacks are crazy because you take something that's objectively awesome, like popcorn, and go, let's make it fucking worse.
Starting point is 01:12:29 You know what's good? Popcorn. Yeah, just straight-up popcorn. Just fucking eat popcorn. And also, don't buy me peanuts in Cracker Jacks. there's so many more interesting things although i do love cracking peanuts at a peanut shell peanuts amazing because they're just peanuts yeah don't change them they're good so do the uh stadium staff oh i'm sure they love that they have the things now that just suck it from below
Starting point is 01:12:49 like the new stadium whoa that's a freaking i should look into that experience what do you know about below they're on it they're vacuums that just kind of exist under your seat and they vacuum they like suck all the food and the garbage into it can you show me i don't understand it's like this and under your seat it's vacuuming the peanut shell. This is what's sucking it from below. Yeah, it's sucking it from below your shells. Okay. The shells you
Starting point is 01:13:15 dropped. Whatever you're picturing for the listening audience, you're wrong and you're right. Anyway, Jackson, look home for the American Olympian. Yeah, how do we get here? Oh, it was a question. It was a question. Maddie, where do you want to go? Detroit.
Starting point is 01:13:31 Yeah. 100%. A new place. that's the thing is just go to a new venue get the new foods and not this old timey stuff yep exactly you'll get some good fun stuff
