Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows.
And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals.
see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task
rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance

You don't even need a fist.
You're Jesse.
You just do it with your chest.
You know?
It's that scene in Social Network
where Sean Parker gets threatened
by Jesse Garfield.
Yeah!
And then Justin Timberlake jumps back.
can i tell you i'm not in so many words i'm still scared of uh what's his name jesse garfield no no
andrew garfield and i'm sorry um jesse isenberg jesse isenberg andrew garfield i i got very
confused the same person yeah that's all right sorry andrew garfield my bad yeah no
andrew garfield he's the most intimidating person in film you think so yeah yeah definitely
it's terrifying uh all right so jesse garfield sorry my bad lots to get to today uh both in the
movie on the jesse dangle show um we've got the leafs and the panthers we got the devils losing
a big one of the islanders like it was close it was it was close listen if you look at the
deserve to win a meter it was close i'm starting with that you want to start with the show no no
i'm just going through what we're going almost i i kind of think it should be you want to start
biggest story that's the biggest story all right all right i lost nine nothing and marshall was
in there for all night all right i'm gonna tell you what else we got yeah okay choose your own
we got the colasar hit on hayden flurry holy moly we got the flyers and ducks hatred match which was
is turning into cinema yo the secret celebration we'll get to that uh we also have an update on
that ross johnson jamie drysdale hit yes uh abs losing to tampa and why funnily enough
bruins fans are thrilled about it uh and what does shisterkin mean for the rangers at the trade
deadline and then of course a little bit of a zane parekh controversy because i'll just i'll
just headline it like this the calgary flames are fucking weird man oh you're a weird group
of weirdos that is and i can't get away from the weirdness and the thing is it's not the fans
it's an every time i tweet something about the calgary flames i'm like guys this is really weird
all the flames fans of my mentions are like yep we think it's weird too man we don't get it uh
We'll get to all of that, but I guess you guys want to start with the Devils.
You guys have said unequivocally it's Devils-Isles.
I was sitting there last night.
I'm like, okay, Leafs, Panthers.
I don't know.
That's pretty big.
It was a big game.
That was an intense game, and we're obviously going to talk about it, but I'm sitting there
last night just looking around the league going, I think a 9-0 win has to start the
show.
Yeah, best win of the season for the Leafs, but most dramatic loss of the season for the
devils of any nhl team it could get uh fitzy fired i think now that we're sitting here midday
the next day after he's not fired that he's not going to be fired within the next 12 hours yeah
but like fine you know sometimes uh like babcock i think was fired after practice the second last
game of his tenure right okay it was it was the caskey swole game against the penguins and they're
like okay we're firing him but then they had a game in vegas they go to vegas they lose again
it's getting robbed by yeah yeah i agree like this is amongst the things we're putting on the list of
why he is fired when he gets fired but i just mean like literally right now i don't think he's
getting fired today but i think in maybe 48 hours if things keep trending the way they are you know
what's going to be really funny um when he's fired as soon as the show is uploaded as like
Greg Wyshynski laid it out pretty well.
I think they have two or three games before their next home game on January 14th.
And if they don't do something significant or win a few games like that game is going to be hell.
Well, I just want to say the Leafs did allow Babs to conduct morning skate the day after Vegas.
Like they let him do the practice and then they fired him after the practice.
Did you know that?
I forgot it.
That happened.
Yeah.
well they needed someone to run it practice for the devils as of this recording starts about half
an hour but i don't think sheldon keeps on the block i i don't think fitzgerald should have
anything to do with practice right no it's so i feel like the firing would have come already if
if he's going to be fired and you're talking about the schedule there yeah they play pittsburgh on
thursday and then there's two days off friday saturday and then they play winnipeg minnesota
back-to-back sunday monday on this it's the the game last on tuesday last night the thing that
sheldon keith talked about uh where he thought they had a good performance and all that like
we'll get to a clip but the thing that's most egregious for me is that's the game after the
luke hughes game yes that's the game where your entire fan base turns on one individual and your
captain's got to come out when he's not scheduled to speak everybody's got to rally around him
and then you follow that up with one of the worst performances in franchise history well
Let me put that into history for you.
That's your response to one of the children on your team getting bullied by the entire fan base.
That's embarrassing.
This is the worst Devils shutout loss, according to Leo Scaglione Jr., who is for sure from New Jersey, since March 31st, 1986, a 9-0 loss to the Rangers.
So another New York team.
These were the only two times in team history that they have lost by nine plus goals and were shut out.
it is also in the expected or goals saved and goals you know goals saved above expected era
it's the worst single performance by any goaltending since that stat was tracked i think
he was a minus seven point something which is bonkers crazy so that means the expected goals
by the way for the devils were about two and a half the islanders was about 1.84 so by expected
goals the devil should have won the game by every metric the devil should have won the game so
here's what that stat means like in very layman terms markstrom allowed seven goals he shouldn't
have yeah and he was in for all nine which is crazy and we're gonna get to it so just for the
stat i'm talking about from moneypuck.com they tweeted out we have confirmed new worst goalie
performance of the modern stats era going back to 2007 jacob markstrom's goal saved above expected
is a minus 7.57 actual goals against nine and by the way can i just say something this guy
has been a spectacular goalie most of his career but if i told you before the beginning of the
season hey jake markstrom is going to put in the worst statistical performance of any goalie since
2007 would it have shocked you that it was his name no me neither no not at all that's mean a
little bit no a little bit he is hot and cold as they come one of the least predictable goalies
over the past how long has he been in the league that long um he can be vesna he can literally be
vesna caliber and i think he's gotten uh many vesna votes many times uh that that would be on
hockey reference um it also doesn't really matter he's been there have been seasons where he's been
incredible some of those seasons he put up in vancouver were ridiculous um other times there's
a lot of nights where he is the reason you lost i mean he's the goaltender who didn't tend who
didn't tend the goal he's the one that that's based on jacob markstrom built steve's dangits
he built it brick by brick that man well i don't know how many of them he was out of the net for
yesterday um i i i need to allot 45 minutes to uh watch the film from that one on account of he
allowed nine but um yeah that guy that guy's like the worst puck handling goalie i've ever seen
Can I add to Tom Fitzgerald's list of things for reasons why he should be fired?
And the big one is Jacob Markstrom.
Sure.
Because on October 31st, 2025, he decided to give Jake Markstrom the two-year extension for $6 million per season.
Wait, he extended him on Halloween?
Yeah, this year we talked about on the show when it happened.
Yeah, but a lot has happened since then.
this season without the resume of maybe you play out this season a little and then you give him
the extension he decided to give him that money and jesse let's let's let's add to that because
when he signed that extension which was in october 31st there was a game in october against colorado
where he was in for all eight goals against so they signed that contract knowing that and he's 35
sheldon has left him in for an eight spot and a nine yes like are the devils in the middle of a
back-to-back right now no no they day off today and then they go to pittsburgh on thursday why
did he do that i couldn't figure that out either i don't know what the reasoning would be to keep
him in there because jake allen can play hockey um there's a moment too in the game where markstrom
goes over to the bench because he thinks he's coming out and then he's not coming out and he
goes back to the goal yeah oh it was ugly yeah and and sheldon keith called a timeout when it
was three nothing oh no the keith timeout yeah the first two shots of the game went uh right past him
uh listen like we don't know like just because alan's available as the backup doesn't mean he is
if if that makes sense um like maybe there's a good reason but if not i mean you can't leave
your coley and no keith explained it in his in his post game like he talked about how he left
him out there and then once he left him out there for four and then five it was just like okay you're
gonna play out the rest of the game i guess he explains his decision making and in there he
doesn't say anything about alan not being available there was a game a few years ago uh
al montoya was the backup of the habs and they had carrie price and habs were getting killed
they allowed like 10 goals that night or something and they left montoya in for all of them but the
reason they did that is because they were using price the next night or had just used them or
whatever so oh boy nine is tough and also are you bringing that up eventually they lit him
they lit him like a like they just discovered a new deep sea creature we're talking about
sheldon keeping his post game yeah this is when yeah it's it's no longer the uh the angel flying
away that he does no he's some sort of squid this happens when you're on the road because you don't
have your home set up where you have your backdrop to do everything so you often find the pr people
and the camera people just finding a hall to do these things then on the roads and i guess at ubs
arena there's not a good adequate place i know just to do their postgame script i want this lit
like an illegal poker game yeah okay i gotta say why do nhl teams this ubs is a pretty new arena
why not just make a a small like no you don't you don't want to make things comfortable for
the road team at all in every case yeah but it's professionalism like no it's sports it's not
professionalism it's it's i'm trying to win this game and even if uh you can make their post-game
scrums look ugly i'm doing it wow i just don't know if that's good for the tv watching audience
but okay i want this lit like a pub whose draft beer gives you two-day hangovers now before we
play that's what i want to live before we play this i do want to know i do want to let you know
that the devils did put up an effort there was over 40 shots and you know islanders goaltending
is pretty good this year uh gritsuk was on he the devils outshot the islanders something like
16 to 7 when he was on the yeah they lost nine nothing and uh uh and obviously the islanders
only put 20 on the devils it was ilia sorokin's first game back from injury and he looked
phenomenal looks like he's good at hockey yeah yeah hasn't missed a step sometimes life throws
your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i
think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks
about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they

So,
do you want to get into
the Sheldon Key?
Oh, more than I want.
It's five minutes long.
Sheldon, that has to be
a tough one to digest
when you sort of look 40-plus shots, no goals,
and then nine on the other side?
I mean, how do you even sort of wrap your head around this?
Yeah, obviously it makes it a challenge
because there's a lot of things that we did well
that led to us probably offensively
in terms of chance generation,
the best game we've played in a really long time offensively.
But at the same time, the way we started the game
in terms of the quality of chance that we gave up,
that's unacceptable.
And that, you know, creates a hole that's hard to get out of.
So, hated how we started the game in terms of the chances we gave up.
I mean, at 2-0, I looked up the shots were 6-2 for us.
At 3-0, I looked up, I think they were 12 or 14-5.
So, it is a difficult game to process from that sense.
But the way we started and then really the way we finished the game as well are are unacceptable.
Was there thought process?
You know, I mean, I'm sure there is thought process, obviously, by like leaving market.
Like, is that a thing you want them to battle through?
This is a team game you want all you got to dig out to get like, how do you how did you gauge?
It's all part of it.
I mean, my my thought process on it is, like I said, I didn't like the quality of chance that we had given up.
And Marky has been playing quite well for us and I thought deserved the opportunity to stay in, you know, through the first period and decided to go back out with him again in the second.
And, you know, once that other one next one goes in for me now, it's just he's got to own it.
He's just got to battle through the rest of the game.
So that's that's really it.
But like I said, a lot of it was just the quality of the chance
that we'd given up and the mistakes that were made leading up to that chance.
I don't think it was fair.
It would be fair to just put it on the goaltender in that case.
And then once they keep going in, now it's too far gone.
And now I don't want to put Jake in that game, in that situation,
given that I need him the next time out.
boy that is so he even defends him yeah to an extent and almost sort of puts it on himself
a little bit i don't know oh boy that that just he doesn't have an answer you know what i mean
so he hates the team and the way that they played
he defended the goalie who by analytics had the worst game and apologized to the fans in track
history yeah he apologized to devil's fans apologized to the fans that sort of took some
accountability himself but you know we've been saying this while the devils have been struggling
i haven't really seen anyone mention sheldon keith as a potential casualty here
and I don't think they think it's his fault yeah well yeah it's not yeah I don't think it is I mean
Devils fans even in the live stream last night we're talking about it they were like we got
nothing against Sheldon it's not his fault yeah the roster construction is poor there were holes
on this team and Tom Fitzgerald chose not to fill them you know someone I spoke to yesterday
um it like it's very obvious tom fitzgerald was getting fired um but what they said was like well
that's he's not as easy to replace as you might think um and not they didn't mean tom fitzgerald
specifically it's just like well you're firing your gm like with buffalo it was very obvious
kevin adams was getting replaced by yarmulke kakalainen if they ever pulled the trigger there
i don't know what the solution is in new jersey but like you just can't this can't continue like
this is this is torture um but what what is the next guy gonna do like it doesn't really what is
yarmo done well yeah you're right he's just you know what i mean he just showed up and said we're
gonna be better and everybody's like agreed and then they won a bunch of games it's 2026
the new coach bump is out the new gm bump is in yet like i don't listen you cannot cannot cannot
play your next home game as the devils having not made a change you can't i think you definitely
can't i think they're going to probably will in fact they will okay i think my money would be on
yeah he's still the gm next one try devils fans then i think so try them so what's interesting
is obviously the the the andre palat thing is pretty much over i think it's he might be cooked
right or he might be cooked in this scenario it is a shame but obviously the money is so significant
that you know maybe he's an nhl player still but no team is going to be like yeah we'll take six
million up for palat yeah you can't trade them you know what's gonna be crazy is when he goes
back to tampa salary retained and is great again yeah oh i'm sure john cooper will find a way he'll
put him on the canadian olympic team um but i need a grinder but uh the other guy is obviously
dougie hamilton you know between the two of them that's 15 million bucks that the devils would
prefer not to have on their books and um i'm not saying dougie hamilton's a bad hockey player but
i do question who's taking dougie hamilton at nine million right now especially after the
injuries it's not that the play's not there it's the injuries well let's take a grenade pull the
pin with their teeth and huck it um the Oilers have Trent Frederick and Andrew Mangiapane
making millions of dollars to not play hockey right now yeah so there are teams out there
who are looking to dance yeah sure I'm not saying those two for Doug you need Dougie Hamilton to
accept a trade to Edmonton or Palat or or Palat I don't know or or he's got three more years you
might as well just keep monji frederick scott seven yeah well but making less you you gotta
spitball right you gotta do something because if if you're you know you're firing tom fitzgerald
for the mistakes he's made but once that's done all right now it's solution time right what do
we do here what do we do do they just try to wait this out until jack hughes hand is okay and they
start maybe winning a few more games i think that's probably what you do this year i don't
know what you can do cool well his brother's gonna get booed again and and you know here's
the thing the devils in the standings obviously they've sunk precipitously but they're not that
far out of it there's still three no one in the east is but the the devils's problem is like how
bad they've been recently yeah since november 29th they are 31st in the league in terms of
total points accumulated they played 19 games in that span they're 6 12 and 1 the only team worse
than them are the jets who are 3 10 and 5 thank you 11 points adding to that ocd couldn't go on
without you saying who 32nd was adding to that they have the worst goal differential in the
eastern conference oh yeah so well now well now yes now they do adam uh just note on that do you
want to know who's 30th in the league since november 29th oh no 30th in league since november
why would i ask adam because it's the ducks because it's the anaheim ducks yeah they've
been 14 points since uh november 29th there's six 11 and two leo carlson i think has one point
since december 15th like i'm i'm sitting here i'm like my fantasy team is dying leo you must
must turn this around uh team sweden probably thinks the same yeah so the devils there's
evidence here that okay there might be close in the standings where they are but every team in
the east is kind of close they've been playing terrible hockey here for a month and a half
yeah it's not great but like most of the teams in this conversation aren't even that bad
by their record which is crazy what la well well okay winnipeg and new jersey and the ducks are
all awful but most of them are like hovering around 500 yep yeah but the devil started eight
and one and that propped them up and they've been terrible yeah you gotta eventually say that the
team is who they are yeah la has been struggling a lot more than people realize i think the record
the records can lie because of how the nhl's ridiculous point system works and everybody
looks above 500 and kind of there but in reality they've been struggling for a long time and they
haven't been very good outside of a couple decent stretches where they collected some points at some
point they got to be done with nightmare seasons right like how many of those can you have
consecutively before it's just like oh we're bad yeah you know and like i didn't think i didn't
think they were bad i think they're a one guy team right now and that guy's wearing a mitten yeah
they win or lose based on jack hughes and i just i think they're better than that i i agree with
you but right now the results would suggest they were really good he injured his hand they've been
really bad what what else like what else has there been um i think i think the roster the problems go
much deeper than that no one is is gonna like this comparison but um are they the east's vancouver
Canucks where every like year in and year out where we're like well they have all these good
players they have more talent than their record shows yeah I think they are like for like not so
much this year although I think I had the Canucks a little higher than this but for at least half
a decade we're like yeah well you know they can make some noise and they made noise once and I
was like ah there i was right and that was it that was it well i in the bubble but no one was
there and also you didn't go to the conference final like how much noise was it really that's
noise by leaf standards but let's aim a little higher shall we yeah i i'm going all over the
place here i'm baffled by how bad the devils are you're talking about when you're talking about
they're consistent oh it's a disaster year that that stretch they've had recently i think it's
fascinating to look at because after they go to stanley cup final they're not they don't make the
playoffs for four consecutive seasons right we're like oh devils are rebuilding they're kind of bad
they go to playoffs in 18 19 then they miss the playoffs in 19 20 21 and 22 and then that's that
era where the devils fans you guys were right in that they always propped up the team they're like
it might be this year that all of our young guys hit you talk them down a little because you're
like every team has this every single team 32 out of 32 fan bases think their crop of prospects is
great yes and so they that four-year stretch and you're going back and forth with them they're
always committed to their team and then in the 22 23 season it hits yep and that's the year they
blow out expectations because we thought they'd be amongst the bottom teams how they were the
previous four years and then everything hits in 23 they win the first round my pajamas wasn't it
that's that's that full year where we went at devil's fans and they were right and you got
the pajamas you did the whole thing by the way can i just say it was so much fun i'm jumping
in for just a second i'll hand it back over you guys were fucking dicks i just want you to know
you guys are fucking dicks all of you all of you all of you and listen i had fun because devil's
fans have been really cool about it since but like you guys there's some amongst you who were
total fucking assholes and and and it's kind of adam hasn't held on to it no no i just i think
it's worth what's what's interesting and i'm coming back yeah i'm coming back to you jesse
i'm sorry no is that i find devils fans are a mixture of islanders fans and philly fans
um and every once in a while that's fair you go okay they got the islanders fans smaller smaller
than the rangers passion right because the rangers are the big boy in town whatever you know
and new jersey and the islanders are just off in the corner and then they got the philly yeah
yeah mother motherfucker yeah you're gonna say shit about me are you yeah and then and so there's
a little bit of that um and and what's interesting about it now is all of them are united in
assholery for the management group and i think that's been fascinating because devil's fans
there's the two sides there's the guys who are just the ardent dickheads and then there's the
people the most people who were like i'm a normal devils fan and i love the devils go devils
and now they're all kind of like let's all be assholes to one one maybe two people now jesse
after the 2023 season what happened so my long belabor point is that 23 season after it set it
all up expectations change yes they did that's what happens 23 happens they're a good team
we all think oh shit they bought like crazy too they have a bunch of talent they're going out
they're buying every year now expectations change the following season they miss the playoffs and
we can excuse it because it's what steve a disaster season everyone got hurt those happen everybody
got hurt everybody gets hurt those happens but expectations are still at the 23 season level
so we enter last season pretty good season brand new coach doubt the coach gets fired they bring
in keith new season new coach expectations are still high they make the playoffs but down the
stretch everybody gets injured and what happens they flame out in the first round they win one
game against the hurricanes they're done i had them beating yeah but yeah we kind of excuse it
as another disaster season but the expectations entering this season are again as still at the
23 level and eventually we can't just do disaster season again is that not the last five or six
seasons of the canucks and oh yeah like that's that's them yeah there's the one season where
we go ah nope yeah and i think now we have to face the reality where it's not just oh man jack
hughes missed 10 games that's their season it's no the tom fitzgerald devils that they've built
might not be good enough and we have to look at the 23 season as the anomaly and the two previous
seasons and now three seasons are what they are and they're not they have had injuries yeah
kovacevic nemich i believe dodonov is getting today those injuries though might be even more
reason to fire fitzgerald because right now there isn't enough room to bring all of those players
back yes so he can't even run his front office well enough uh to where he knows how to manage
his cap and have players on injury reserve and then bringing them back but there is time for
them to solve that do you think jesse that they thought they'd be able to trade at least dougie
hamilton yes it feels like that they thought a move would have been made in the interim to where
they'd have room on the cap and you're saying you know we talked on monday about this and we talked
about how luke hughes went from making 900 grand to 9 million and that's why that's when players
start to it's it's evan bouchard too right i know oilers fans love them but there are times where
evan bouchard is the reason you lost there's times where he's the reason you won uh and and when
evan bouchard went from making four or five whatever he's making last year to 11 or 10 and a
half or whatever he's making it's not just cute anymore no he's not oh it's our scruffy little guy
it's motherfucker that's like 10 of our cab we need to we need you to play like it and and and
you know leaf fans because there's so many of us we got on our our people uh about that shit and
I think other fan groups were like what's their problem now you're experiencing it because when
those expectations change there's no going back there's no like it's you get that one fun season
wow we're a surprise 2016-2017 Toronto Maple Leafs say after that say it after that the
expectations change say what well during that season the because the Leafs down the stretch
were not guaranteed to make the playoffs they made it in the second last game of the season right
and the conversation was okay this is supposed to be a rebuild year and they're magically
competing for a playoff spot how are you going to feel if they miss it is it still okay if they
miss it my answer the whole time was no you've been in a you've been in a spot most of the season
if you don't make it you've blown it yeah i don't want that i remember jesse saying i think i think
they got about a like you know that over 50 chance of making it here and this is the end of january
or something in 2017 and i was like man you're fucking crazy and even at that point we were like
this is 18 wheeler season but jesse was absolutely right and they made it yeah but then after that
they didn't get matthews because they were good no exactly like the next season okay and this is
how it went for the leafs the next season well they made it back to the playoffs but they got
to play ah they lost the bruins game seven okay ah but then the next and it's like oh that third
one and game seven was so bad and you're just like okay things really started to turn this isn't cute
anymore new jersey hasn't even got that though right they missed the playoffs and then made it
last year but i think they made it to was it game five yeah they won one game against the hurricanes
yeah we right it's i i think i don't think the devils are a crazily difficult problem to solve
No, I don't think so either, but they're close, but they need they desperately need a new set of eyes because Tom Fitzgerald appears to be in over his head.
It's a it's interesting that as for as bad as the Devils have been in the last, say, 10, they don't have the worst record in the NHL in the last 10.
Do you know who does in the last 10?
The Jets.
Hold on.
I mean, is it OK?
The Jets?
Yeah, they haven't won San Jose, by the way.
Six, four and oh in their last 10.
In a playoff spot this morning.
But the other team that you should pay attention to,
they're 2-5-3, and you're telling me you can't guess them?
They're leading their division.
Leading their division? Is it Vegas?
It's the Vegas Golden Knights,
who have two less wins than the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Vegas have been feasting on overtime losses.
Two less wins than the Leafs, and what is it?
Six fewer wins than losses? Five?
yeah they're they're so they have 11 regulation losses and 12 ot losses so they're what 18 11 and
18 and 23 well or no gary betman would interrupt you and say 18 11 and 12 yes but 18 and 23 if
we're looking at the real numbers interesting and so i i think it's it's it's it's been
and i feel like we got to acknowledge this this is a bit of a changing of the guard season
you know there are times i like i remember through the 2010s it was sort of like we knew chicago was
going to be good once la took off in 2012 then we knew where they were going to be good most of the
time you used to be able to pencil in like 10 teams and and towards the end of the 2010s it
switched up a little bit the leafs became a factor boston was you know great all the way through the
2010s tampa came out of you know having to draft jonathan drew and third overall to becoming an
absolute powerhouse towards the end of the decade and then great basically the whole time um and
and then you had you had that and it was stationary for a while nothing changed um and i'm just
talking about top teams around the league you know throughout that time dallas has been really
good colorado's been consistently very good um but then there are changing of the guard season
we're seeing the rise of the sharks we're seeing the rise or at least until recently of the anaheim
ducks and the blackhawks seem like a cool story well i just think they're there that's a one
player team yeah um but i'm looking at at what's happening here and i'm like oh the seattle
kraken are in our third in their division the leafs would be wow the last time we checked in
on them they were not the leafs would be the leafs would be third in the pacific division
one point out of first right now that's that's how bad that division is i caught it um the
minnesota wild have risen we're seeing as i said the sharks and ducks and in the eastern conference
right sabers are really good penguins are somewhat back they're in a wild card spot islanders have
shocked the world they shouldn't be this good detroit's been really really strong i was like
just say detroit there is a lot of a lot of teams that are kind of and so you know these teams like
the devils the leafs i would include in this um that are you know maybe injured maybe poorly
constructed maybe a mix of both who are like oh wow i have a lot more competition now than i used
to have right and we should have probably seen this because this summer all anybody could talk
about was that nobody was selling except for the penguins and it's hilarious so then it would mean
that it would probably mean that hey there's a good chance that a lot of teams kind of struggle
out of the gate yeah but i i think we can be forgiven for not seeing the most even season
we've ever seen coming you know yeah yeah this is historically weird except for the avalanche
the who's in last in the east right now the blue jackets like how many games would they have to win
in a road be in a playoff spot not many like five there are six out of a playoff spot six points
yeah so the penguins are at 49 the blue jackets are 43 six points six points last place to a
playoff spot yeah yeah that's insane the goal differentials what's that screw it jackets the
senators are second last in the east they have a positive goal differential yeah it's that even man
so on the devils yes do you think tom fitzgerald survives till the next home game which is next
wednesday uh to me that's the free space like i you said it yourself they had the luke hughes
getting booed game and they followed it up with this hunk of shit there's no reason to believe
they right the ship in the next few games now if they do maybe it buys them some time
but if they go oh and three even one one and one one and two whatever i you gotta i think you gotta
make the tough decision here adam who which which way would you put your money i think i think
nothing's gonna happen oh i don't think man i think that this management group or this ownership
group excuse me has stuck with tom fitzgerald through some pretty down seasons and whatever
i think at very least they're going to wait till the end of the season and i think he's going to
argue listen we've had injuries we've had injuries and i want to i want to see you always have
injuries yeah i know but that's listen when you're fighting for your job oh i i'm listen anyone can
come up with reasons for anything it's your job as the one signing the checks to be like yeah no
i have heard that their owners are very actively involved like weekly meetings uh very very
opinionated on certain things they watch the games or what yeah they watch the games they
watch the games well i you know like it's sort of like you know what reminds me of again to bring
up vancouver because their owners are very passionate people and i have no doubt that
vancouver's owners are passionate people maybe to a fault there are certain personalities that
can handle that i look at jim benning i look at jim rutherford the gyms they've handled all of
that for the last decade and a half and it seems like when you get an owner who's got somebody who
can manage up really well the owner has a hard time letting them go like jim benning despite
the fact there's no results there oh you're a mark that's pretty extreme but maybe what
you have some guy who's doing a bad job and taking your money while doing it because he has a silver
tongue and has you and you're wrapped around his little finger you're a mark like that we are we
are over the last few years we have witnessed the dying of the aura of billionaires yeah they're
not impressive people and the guys who own these teams you need to stop looking at them like they're
smarter than you they're they're more money than you they're made of flesh and bone and have
headaches and have to shovel the drive well maybe they don't have to shovel the driveway but they
have weird poops and they're they're they're human and uh i'm sorry if you have a guy making
millions of dollars off you doing a shitty job and the only reason he hasn't been fired
is because he talks to you nice you're a mark okay for context by the way josh harris and david
blitzer are the owners of the new jersey devils they also own the philadelphia 76ers i don't know
if we can find anything about how they run that organization oh see how they run the devils but
they love hiring toronto coaches that's for sure nick nurse nick nurse and shelby and shelby
keith oh that's that's funny yeah they want to be i never put those two things okay so they do
watch some yeah tom fitzgerald is the president of hockey operations and the general manager so
there's no one above him so he would be reporting to probably bob myers who's the one who's in
charge of the sixers and the devils who used to be the gm of the golden state warriors uh who was
on espn for a while running basketball and then they hired him to run the conglomerate for the
blitzer harris oh so this actually explains quite a bit so the organization is run by a guy who can
be fooled by a team who almost won what do you mean right well the 76ers this ah you know but
we could if we just got that one little uh so let's double down resume is as bad as any leafs
fans thinks the leaf stars resume yeah oh my god he's one of the most disgraceful stars in
professional sports i am obsessed with joel and bead uh you're obsessed with how bad his resume
is he i think is maybe the worst embellisher diver uh watching him is performance art yeah
it's i've never seen a player with more talent play with less integrity it's crazy but um yeah
no the devils are in deep deep shit if they're not willing to make a move here and i'm looking
at that i'm looking at that screen yeah so this and i'm like they're just gonna hire the guy they
know this is what i was gonna bring up uh if you're looking for replacements if there's temporary
replacement to clear out the front office is probably martin broder who are gonna hire marty
who would be maybe temporary gm and president of the devils because temporary nothing he is
currently the executive vice president of hockey operations dan mckinnon is the senior vice
president and assistant general manager so he is also a candidate and then also another candidate
is kate madigan who is the vice president and assistant general manager of the new jersey devil
so that is their front office right now can i can i say something yes can i give you a name
give me a name okay you know who's not doing much right now advising oh say it lou mother f and
lamorella oh that is not who i thought you were gonna say i'm wondering if you're going to replace
fitzy does it not make sense to bring him in for at least six months and you know lou will get a
five-year contract out of that but i thought you were gonna say brendan shanahan no i i don't think
shanee's the guy although he was a devil and he just got a job too yeah working with hockey
just started i think you might say thanks but no thanks yeah that's a hey man you're making 500
grand that's so cool that's a lot for most of us how about six million to run the uh the devils
oh yeah okay if i have to i think lose lou maybe shanee's the long-term guy uh that actually makes
a ton of sense but lou to me if you're going to replace fitzy this week lose the guy hey shanee
we have a new opening and if you manage up well enough no matter how poorly you do you can keep
your job as long as you want to be like and he goes that's got my name written on it don't even
interview another candidate i'm your guy um by the way a jersey was thrown on the ice during the
game it was a pk suban jersey and pk was calling the game for espn so that had to be that's so
surreal um quite the moment for pk uh just just unbelievable it's a uh it's it's it's wild times
there's the 76 on the church no it's devils no no so you're right it's yes it's not dude they're
happy with quinn hughes uh he's been doing great stuff by the way can i ask this question how long
is it before the rumors start approaching that that jack is leaving from it they've already
began have they oh yeah because luke's stuck right oh no one's taking that when he signed
the deal i was like oh i think he's been pretty good but boy but you know it does feel a little
bit like hey minnesota could use the center it started yeah it started and i i think i mean
forget getting fired if you're actually considering doing that i think you should resign
the guy got quinn hughes out from under you and you're going to give him no you wouldn't give it
to them no no you wouldn't do it you wouldn't do that even no even for any price no no you
i think he would just leave in free agency oh right because i don't know how many years left
there is uh there's a lot 2030 2030 what a great steal of a contract yeah remember when he signed
that deal and people some people thought it was too much because he had i i don't even know if
he had a full season under his belt so you gotta make a million bucks what's he yeah luke hughes
makes more than jack like a lot more luke's the highest paid he was brother um yeah jack can't
really leave in free agency anytime soon so if they're the while they're willing to wait till
2030 which i'm sure they would be uh then he can leave would they take like a david you're a check
i'm just trying to think of who's left in the wild system i'm not i'm not trading jack you
you're a check not to you he's making a million dollars you're off you're a check
wall street no i'm joking you guys are wasting your time they need a goalie i don't think you
can't be both swedish guys are wasting the devils do not have a deal of that or not the devil so
wild do not have a deal no let's put it together come on what are we doing here there's no you
can't do that twice yes you can yes you can bill garrett baby big it's fun big bill coming at you
that guy he's he does balls of steel i don't know if it's gonna work out for him but uh now
in between uh toilet papering the robertson house he uh does his job well man for no good reason
bills on our lawn again he just looks up at the camera
clips them off yeah call the cops what yeah they'll never believe you
hey this episode is sponsored by better help and listen it's a new year is it new year new you it
doesn't need to be what we can do though is make changes and having a third party kind of look at
our lives and go you know what if you thought about this and you go wow i haven't thought
about that it's like yeah because you needed somebody who's not invested in you you can drop
your shit at your family's door sometimes but sometimes even they get tired of hearing about
of problems new year new me is like pressure yeah you don't like it yeah what about new year just
take care of yourself a little i like that there you go jesse are you new year new you or are you
new year take your take care of yourself a little steve's job should be coming up with slogans for
therapists steve's job steve's job should be coming up with slogans for therapists i think
you'd be really good at it with better help you're gonna get a uh a great therapist there's over
30,000 credentialed therapists. And there's a strict code of conduct, fully licensed therapists
of all sorts of disciplines kind of based on you. And the great thing about it is the match
commitment for better help. They obviously do the initial match matching for you to focus on
your therapy goals. There's a short questionnaire you're going to fill out. And if you aren't happy
with your match, you can switch to a different therapist at any time from their tailored
recommendations, which is great. And you get the match very, very quickly too. That's the problem,
been the problem with traditional therapy before so we want you to get matched up with a qualified
therapist in 2026 and we want to give you 10 off to do it at betterhelp.com slash sdp again it's
10 off and uh at betterhelp.com slash sdp sign up today just uh let's get to the leafs and panthers
and going into this game uh uh i thought this was really funny um the penalty differential
was uh pointed out uh by your friend jay rosehill uh 50 more going into last night's games remember
41 games for both teams florida had 52 more power play opportunities than the toronto maple
leafs uh i believe also chris cuthbert might have said it on the broadcast too but i was streaming
so i didn't catch everything he said 52 more power play opportunities now you can put your
tim foyle hat on for that and i would agree with you because uh the leafs have never in the matthews
era finished even in the top half of power play opportunities but i would say that this year part
of it is for most of the season they couldn't generate offensive opportunities that is true
could not draw penalties that is true who are the leafs tied with in points in the standings
panthers now the florida panthers they also suck
well but everybody's like but they're going to be fine because they're injured but they're injured
yeah okay but they've been injured the whole time that that stat has been applicable yes so you can't
look at the Leafs and been and just go yeah but they've been bad Florida's been bad they've had
good stretches Leafs have had good stretches too they've been bad I mean there's a reason they're
tied they've been bad is it why do they have 50 more penalties i 50 more power play opportunities
why how come so for the for the numbers if we want to pull up nhl.com here penalties drawn
the florida panthers have 211 so far this season that is number one in the national hockey league
second there's a tampa bay lightning at 209 the leafs are down at the bottom at 30th they have
133 penalties drawn and then if we go to penalties taken and we sort by that we will see that the
florida panthers are third in the league in penalties they've taken a lot at 189 so that's
211 drawn 189 taken and then the leafs are down at the bottom here at 27th they have taken 136
penalties so that's 133 drawn 136 taken yeah but this is how they get you oh the panthers they're
just high events right they draw a lot they take a lot to go to penalty differential go to penalty
it's the it's right next to it uh net pen yeah i don't know why it's listed as that panthers a
third wow the wilder 42 in the plus yeah leafs are the panthers are plus 22 on net penalties
behind the wild and avalanche who are okay the wild powerhouse avalanche powerhouse panthers
not in the playoffs red wings powerhouse sends not gonna lie to you i can't explain that one
so go to the bottom leafs are oh my god what did the bruins do leafs are minus three they're pretty
Yeah, Bruins, you got to get Gregory Campbell back and Brad Marchand.
That league shine is gone in Boston.
Minus 38, the Bruins are in net pens.
Yeah, you need that soupy whistle.
Now, Austin, you need to get that back.
Hey, Jess, do you have the Brad Marchand video that you took before the game yesterday?
Yeah, yeah.
I think to set this up properly, we have to have Brad Marchand,
who is a master at working the press here in Toronto.
He's very, very good at it.
This man is going to kill on TV.
If Brad Marchand wants a podcast, I'd be happy to bring him to SDPN.
We'll call it the Mighty Might Roar with Steve Dangle and Brad Marchand.
Oh, yeah.
No, I'm sure we would finish second and he'd join some network in Florida.
But I think he's brilliant at working it here.
And what's so satisfying about this clip is remembering what happened in the game afterwards.
So play the clip.
Here's what Brad had to say pregame.
It was it was between Florida and Toronto of where I was I was going to go, you know, and I mean, ultimately, if I never thought that it was going to be possible to resign in Florida, I really didn't just with with the guys that we had up and stuff like that.
But, you know, Toronto, I wasn't I was serious about what I said with with where they're at as a group, the way that they're competing now, they compete the right way, which is what they kind of had to get over that hurdle.
You know, it's unfortunate the fans ran out of town that that kind of I mean, that's a huge impact for their group.
You know, he's a point of game player like that, that that hurts.
so um but yeah i mean they're a great great team great organization and uh but you know once once
opportunity came up this time here it was it was but kind of no question that's where i wanted to
be i don't know i think that's i think that's funny why at this point you gotta laugh like
you can't take it serious watch me watch me not like i think that's funny dude with the i appreciate
his honesty about
like, yeah, I was going to, like, it was
between Florida and Toronto, and I believe him.
Yeah, yes. But based on everything
we heard at the time, all of that is
very true. And the Leafs,
according to CJ yesterday,
in the Athletic, turned down
trades in June because they wanted to keep
money available for Brad.
And here's the other, the funny part about it
is if they'd thrown in a third round pick,
a conditional third, they probably
could have got Brad with Brandon Carlo.
oh my god so misfire so if you so that if you want to get mad get mad at our group yeah oh
yeah no 100 so that should have been a leaf that part of that i'm like i appreciate his candor and
but then the marner stuff i'm like boo boring yeah we are kind of over that like nobody nobody
toronto's upset about that it's boring no but he hasn't had an opportunity to say it on a mic in
toronto yet so he's that's why the leafs played the panthers but and they're growing the game
But, Jesse, if Toronto loses this game.
Why didn't he say it there?
I don't understand.
If Toronto loses this game.
Back-to-back cup champs.
What a bump.
What a bump.
You know?
I don't understand.
If the Panthers beat Toronto last night,
that quote is ringing in everybody's ears this morning.
And he knows that.
But instead what happened is that he didn't even finish the frigging game.
And I think, and it's interesting, and I want to start here.
so brad marchand here is about to get hit by bob bobby mcmahon look at that and he's gonna hit him
and then he's not coming back and what i like about this is i don't think this hits dirty i
think brad just gets twisted up here um definitely not dirty but what i like is that somebody on the
toronto maple leafs tried to hit brad marchand yeah which is something that for 10 years we've
been asking them to do kind of throw it out there this isn't a dirty hit and also i wouldn't care
if it was yeah sure apologize to no one it's the pan it's the panthers i have never viscerally
hated a team like this yeah not not even boston yeah you hate it you legit you hate a boss no i
yeah but not like this i think it's worse i think it's worse than chara yeah yeah no no that was
did not hate boston like that at the end of the day even though i thought boston was dirty and
did a lot of dirty things like chara friggin chief among them i was like i respect them though
they're better than everyone else these guys i'm like eh boo you know what even added to it for you
i think when you're you talk about this stuff constantly was the four nations stuff with uh
kachuk and brady and brady and jt bell we're gonna think about remembering this you know this like
back your hand and just everything that went on with the political side of it too and i think that
added to your hatred and that bled over to the panthers yeah but like bennett was on canada and
I was pretty stoked when he scored for Canada.
But I think you were pretty perturbed at Matthew Kachuk.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Buddy, the way you went on Brady Kachuk last episode, come on.
Yeah.
You've got to at least admit that you don't like them.
No, I don't.
You don't like them.
I don't.
Although, I will say Brady does make me chuckle.
Oh, he's hilarious.
Someone posted a clip that I had forgotten about where Brendan Lemieux bit him.
Oh.
His reaction's so funny.
i forgot how funny that is funny he's a funny guy talked about that on dang it's too no but like
they're just so disgracefully dirty and they're able to get away with everything so i don't think
the leafs laid like there are a few things people complained about yesterday a lot of them having to
do with mcmahon i don't think they were dirty and i'll say this dead into the camera i wouldn't care
if they were because it's the florida panthers apologize to no one you know well by the sword
die by the sword i'm sure that yeah it takes one to no one and all that bullshit but maybe don't
get injured next time well and so maurice was asked after the game hey you know what's what's
up with brad he's like well we're being real sensitive about injuries right now because
they are going down they've played a lot of hockey right like that can't be overstated i mean he's
37 four seasons in the last three years and he's a canadian olympian like i don't want him to be
hurt right so i think i think maurice they it's probably something minor but what my point is is
I wanted to play that Bobby McMahon hit and then talk about Bobby McMahon because, you know,
what's been very, very interesting and Anthony Petrelli sort of pointed something out and I
actually messaged him about this and I wanted to bring it to the show. So Matthew Nyes is playing
with Austin Matthews. And one of the things that we were talking about is how slow Matthews looked.
Has he heard? Has he heard? Has he heard? Ever since Bobby McMahon's joined him, I'm like,
oh, Austin Matthews speed back. And the numbers sort of back it up. The other thing Anthony
he pointed out in his article which i did not know if you read maple leaf's hot stove you probably
already read this is that matthew and i's put on some weight this summer and he was going for
getting bigger but he's lost that explosiveness a little bit now you saw him last night use his
body i'm talking about matthew nice um and he used it to great effect so in a slower game it's
going to work but slower is not necessarily worse not necessarily not necessarily but with matthews
they were playing so slow that they were extremely predictable and they weren't a match what's been
amazing is that bobby mcmahon led the leafs in goals in december which is the first time somebody
not named matthews marner or nylander has done that since 2021 march when it was zach hyman wow
okay wow so so that's there's that so that's working right and i like the fact that he's
Bobby's not a small guy.
Not at all.
So he's got speed and he's got a big body.
Good shot.
Good shot.
And he's, I don't know what it is.
He's a little bit like everybody's going to pay attention
to what Matthews and Domi are doing.
And it's freeing McMahon up to do things
that perhaps he couldn't do on other lines.
And I've been finding that I'm like,
dude, this guy didn't even score at this rate in the ECHL.
Right?
Bobby McMahon was not like a prolific scorer
at really any level.
Oh, I remember when he was first called up to the Leafs.
So it was like, hey, scrappy guy, let's go.
And now he's scoring 20 goals a season.
Like, can't believe it.
And that I think we need to highlight.
And he's playing like an asshole.
Yes.
Which is what we kind of wanted from him before.
Earlier in the season, it's like, oh, he's got a little bit more snarl to his game than he used to.
He's got a little bit more.
He is enemy number one on a lot of nights.
Which is not something I expected.
and you know who else is playing like a prick and he played like it last night you don't need to be
big to do it this way you know who yep nick robertson yep plays like an asshole and his
shot is a touch of death his skating has gotten better his playmaking has gotten better you know
there's a vision out there yeah there's still some things to tidy up but like that's the vast
majority of players in this league but he's a prick out there all five nine buck eighty of him
what he did to brendan dylan in the doubles game i couldn't that's brendan dylan yeah what that's
not a that's a complete size and he basically like stiff-armed like no yes and i have talked
about this for god knows how many years i'd love to know the first time i brought it up
i was fascinated by the case study of travis connect me who we know as a belligerent aggressive
violent player but not huge not huge he's like a buck 85 10 he was on the four nation face-off team
he makes how much money with the flyers he's been arguably their mvp over a stretch of years
and he plays that brand of hockey there was a game against the leafs where he's going straight
at matthews and you know that was one of the things we talked about as like you know marchie
urdano jumped to his defense and i think bunting was in there too and we're like really it's good
that they did that but also really a little bit you cannot have designated babysitters you cannot
have well we have matt martin and so he's our keeps the flies off is what they keep the flies
off you keep the flies off what if i'm not there what if i'm not on your line well wayne simmons
keeps the flies off and ryan reeves keeps the fly clifford all of you figure it out
nick robertson did not magically put on weight this summer you know bobby mcmahon what did i
always say about frederick goche uh who was six foot five like 220 big for nothing no not big for
nothing that's what i used to say about justin oh okay all right what'd you say about with freddy
the goat i was talking about you know uh there's a salary cap but there's no salary cap on just team
employees yeah and what i would do is i would hire someone to follow freddy around and crease his
sneakers put lego in his shoes every time he wore a white shirt get put mustard on it just fuck his
day up every day just fuck his day up be an asshole cut him off in traffic hire someone to
follow him and cut him off in traffic and just make him an angry person if he had an angry molecule
in his body he'd still be in the show i'm looking at his stats right now he's playing the swiss a
league good for him that's a good hall is in the swiss alien no no no freddie gochey no that's
just justin hall i think is in with grand rapids yeah yeah yeah like what the fuck by the way being
after the leafs freddie gochey played 10 more games in the nhl yeah man that guy scored the
first goal of the season one year yeah he had he had no points with the two games he played with
the coyotes and eight with the devils play zero points ever again right like being like the beef
that i talked about uh heading into the season it's it's not everything it's handy as we've
seen with nize and he can just take his left hand to beat you to death with it but you need to have
an attitude no matter what size you are that i'm out here and it's your problem and that's what
mcmahon has done and that's what robertson has done and last night it's what the whole team did
you need that to beat forget the panthers you need that to beat anybody there was a chippiness
to the game and it developed i would say towards the end of the first early second and it started
to get was domi ekblad yeah and and what's interesting about that fight which was really
more of a hugging match yeah they were they hate each other and they've hated each other for a long
long long i think it was free that was saying it went back to the preseason in 2018 and it was like
and then they were like okay we're throwing a commercial it's like no no tell the story well
i don't remember the story i can tell it so ekblad has a history of concussion issues
right that's legitimate and that's concerning giving concussions too and yeah i think he might
be neutral on the give versus take on that one i would like to know it isn't what his differential
is that's that's a good point but domi gave him one uh in the preseason with uh a sucker punch
not dissimilar to the one that we saw suspended the two that we saw suspended recently and Domi
was I believe suspended here it is right for it this is this is Domi in with the Montreal
Canadians punching Ekblad oh wow this is in 2018 wow like you guys said yeah and Ekblad permanently
hates him for it and he's absolutely correct yeah that's a lot of blood on Ekblad's face yeah
and like don't we got kicked out i can't on the broadcast they talked about look at nick
yeah so this is a clip from uh them talking about i was in the audience at the time
yeah although you almost never see him smiling but no so yeah oh so yeah these guys legitimately
don't like like each other's not just like competition hate yeah on the broadcast uh
uh they talked about like oh well the leafs take that trade because you know it's a winger for
like a minute eating defenseman but one thing we know about the panthers from other games against
the lightning is no debt is ever paid you are never forgiven it's like crows if you piss off
a crow they'll be mad at you generationally do you know that oh yeah like crows do i know a bird
they have like family memory i'm like hey that guy fucked with us let's kill him i saw you don't
know the guy you're talking to like you're right you're right look at the mug look at the mug i'm
cranking out of bird nerd but uh with um there was a stat brandon hagel ever since he injured
barkov whenever he plays the panthers he misses at least the next game they injure him every time
he was suspended that wasn't enough he comes back ekblad can cusses him
he comes back they play again guess what here's your injury stupid and they give it to him again
no debt is ever paid nothing is ever forgiven and i'm supposed to feel bad when their players get
hurt bullshit this is the game that they play i know but we're not talking we're just talking
about don't mean no i know but i'm trying to connect everything right right so no debt is
ever paid and that's what the game begins with the game begins with a forever blood feud this
blood feud will end presumably when one of them retires or dies and i don't know maybe one of them
sees the other on a golf course and they just start fucking throwing have you ever seen that
cfl video of the two yes there's two guys in their 80s and they still hate each other and
then they beat the shit out of each other on stage like an award show with like canes and
yeah yeah they start swinging at canadian football league look that up it's a crazy
clip hilarious video hilarious crazy like you want to talk about on site for life yeah that's
what these two are and that set the tone for the rest of the game all right we hate each other and
what was interesting about i thought the way the panthers kind of deployed their defense because
you know obviously akblad is there miko is there forsling's there you know the the main guys are
there um uh seth jones was obviously not playing yeah but you know most of the main guys and they
got to the finals and won a cup without seth jones with those guys i okay and i thought balance kids
had a good game too team latvia olympics he's a good player um they turned the puck over a lot
at the hash marks in their own zone a lot and i don't know that it was because they're sloppy
it was because we're finally seeing something that i mentioned about 20 minutes ago offensive
zone pressure from the toronto maple here i come here i come again yeah that's how the panthers
beat the leafs here i come they played here i come hockey and uh you like the taste of your
own medicine so it's it's it's not a taste of their own medicine it's how you win hockey games
Matthew Nyes, I thought was, you know, I know he scored the goal on the tip in, but Jess, you know, maybe you had a great view of the way he played last night.
And I just felt like he played like a bulldozer, right?
There was, you know, they, it seemed like Panthers would try to be on him, but they couldn't move him.
And it seems like with Tavares, he's found a good spot on that line.
Yeah.
And well, his goal comes with Austin Matthews.
and that's on that behind-the-back no-look pass to Matthew.
He found him pretty good.
Yeah, he did.
He was asked afterwards if he had saw him.
He was like, not really.
He just kind of guessed, kind of knew, and he nailed that pass.
And that's where Matthew Nye scores all of his goals.
It's within five, ten feet of the net.
As long as he's in and around the net, he's going to be scoring goals,
and that's what he was doing.
And the Panthers, they let the side of the net open all night to anybody.
you look at the eastern cowan goal he's coming down the middle of the ice and he just kind of
heads to the side of the net and nick robertson just finds him there you know on a beautiful pass
but he's just wide open and the panthers look slow stephen lorenz had what like four breakaways yeah
at least two breakaways and matthews had one too i thought it was william kneelander out there with
the amount of chances that lorenz had which was incredible so the panthers look slow and the
leafs and matthew nyes and those guys they just took advantage of it and they were just up and
down the ice it was good it was really good performance and after all that all the physical
conversation that we've just had who got the belt michelle i thought he was good last night i think
he's been good yep i don't i'm okay with them not trading him now they should for sure not keep
keep that player that player that player i also think you know listen i know they scratched him
for like a month yeah but which maybe they shouldn't have well but maybe they should have
because he played like shit before that maybe that wasn't entirely his fault that's an interesting
conversation but uh hey matthias you're on the last year of your deal and you keep playing like
this you're gonna find yourself somewhere else yeah what if the scratching worked yeah and also
the firing you like hate money yeah the firing has also worked because the leafs um it's funny
since december 1st they flash this on the broadcast the panthers have the second ranked
penalty kill in the league first place is the leafs they didn't flash that on the uh on the
broadcast though and that's lalonde uh and that's lalonde and then you finally now have a power play
that's clicking and that will take you we talk about even the playoffs like a lot of the teams
that make it to the finals hey they had the hottest power play in pk combo how shocking
the leafs last night and again i'm gonna hammer this scott mother effing lot oh yeah is a god on
the pk you know the least pk this year is better than it was last year higher last year was very
good and that's with martyr and tan have gone well and a huge huge reason like let's definitely
stay with lotten but stetcher oh amazing it's been i think the best in the league or at least
top five since he got her got back but when or not got back when the when the leaves got stetcher
is actually roughly around the time they got lotten back as well right so and who was the
driving force on that nice goal uh-huh yeah unbelievable so and you know lot and lorenz
are such a great pairing and then you could throw guys like cali aren't croak you can put matthews
out there there's like other nick waugh has been killing penalties uh there's there's nice has
killed penalties there's opportunities for other guys but those two are very clearly pp or sorry
pk1 and lot and lorenz not only can clear a puck but they create opportunities a couple of the
opportunities lorenz had i know he had two breakaways but he also had just scoring chances
yeah yeah he had a ton of shots they were pk it was it was unbelievable game what day was
marcevard fired the 24th 23rd 22nd it was 22nd and i know that because they had a game on the
23rd that i was at there you go okay so since the 22nd the leafs have the number four uh power play
in the league uh they're behind the crack and oilers and rain 35.7 uh percent uh power play
percentage that's pretty good if we take away those uh that one game that you said if we go
to the 24th they're number two it's 41.7 because they didn't score on the 23rd yeah it gets even
better wow and then if you go to their pk since that date since the 24th they are fourth in the
in penalty kill 90.9 people forget this but what you did there actually makes the most sense where
you take away the 23rd game because that was the one game that they played without sullivan yes so
if we go from the hiring of the sullivan date i think that's a little more accurate the numbers
are even better hilarious they're awesome they didn't i think we're burying the lead here they
did not score last night do you they had opportunities though well plenty yes but the
reason i'm bringing that up is because of that like brube is like yeah we didn't score but like
it helped yeah yeah so they they're spectacular without marks of art like the evidence is there
this actually worked incredible i love mark but how much holy damn how much do we hang on
brad and the brain trust there for not moving off this earlier well we've heard that craig
fought pretty hard to keep mark because they the reason that marks of ours there is because they
are longtime buddies and and mark savard's numbers in calgary were shit too and and they were shit
for three months last season or two and a half mid-december is when the power play took off
last year it was good yeah but steve it was before december i was before he got fired remember like
one of the last shows that we did i was saying okay two and a half months last year three months
this year so of the six months in a season roughly six and a half there's two and a half last year
there's three this year so of those 13 months that you're on track to be here we got about 50
where your dog shit half of them i'm not good enough yeah so last year started bad ended good
so i was like oh okay fine like he figured it out yes that's what i said too this season i sort of
looked at it like oil tober um like okay they just started it with oil vember and then it was oil
vember and oil sember and i was like okay this is like you can't defend this yep like they had to
make a change now what i thought they were going to do was because again assistant coaches usually
don't get fired by themselves mid-season i thought they were going to get rid of you could have
easily justified getting rid of berube getting rid of savard and getting rid of van ryan because
their defensive metrics are freaking awful off outside of the pk which is good but that's lond
van ryan manages the d and they stink ah so you could have easily justified that so when they
fired savard i was like well what's that really gonna do it made it and it turns out
now i want to say it did everything it did basically everything you need i mean how could
you how could you say no seven games since he was fired they've claimed 12 out of possible 14 points
man that's huge have they lost in regulation no 502 since he was fired that's quite nice uh by
the way uh part of the bad apple well i think they identified the problem yeah part of it i don't
think the roster is perfect i think we all know that i think they could obviously ideally use some
health uh and perhaps a uh a top line like if you want to it'd be nice if you could have a top six
guy to play with matthews that you could also deploy in defensive situations because you noticed
last night they're trying to defend the lead it's three to one it's uh it's mcmahon matthews and
scott lawton i know me i think that's perfectly fine which is fine too yeah uh one thing i want
to point out too and i want to get back to the pk because i got to give you this stat it's nuts
okay so this is from jonas siegel's article and i love jonas um i disagree with him on this
but jonas is a guy that like is this is my opinion and i'm gonna own it and and i respect the shit
out of that he will back it up i think lawton and lorenz have been spectacular i think stetcher's
been spectacular in the pk but jonah says um what's going on here because he said last season
tanev and and marner were still leafs and the pk is better this season what's going on here he said
well it's goaltending as you might expect wool has been incredible especially at home he said
leafs goaltenders have posted it in an unthinkable and league best 950 save percentage on the pk
since december 1st number two in that time name the team and name the number and percentage
save percentage on the pk or so yeah on the pk on the i'm gonna say 94 percent or no no like
940 940 um the team i i have no idea jesse give me a give me a team and give me a number florida
i can't i have it up right oh you have it here okay put on the screen the new york islanders
oh that makes sense eight nine three holy shit what but part of a save percentage is having good
players in front of you that are keeping it which is where jonas and i would maybe disagree on that
part but it doesn't mean the goaltending hasn't been spectacular it has no for a stat to be that
egregious that's holy shit that's like okay if you had those stats just in general regardless
we're talking about a heart and vesna winning goalie times tim thomas plus connor halibut
times carry price and then a below average uh goalie league wide yeah and that's second place
yeah to have a safe percentage that starts with a nine on the pk is psychotic and that's wall
and hill to be to allow five percent of the shots on goal that you face is mind-boggling yeah
wow they've got a good pk going it's good wow and and the thing is is that you know we're we're
talking about this uh in a hey i sure would like to believe sort of manner because ultimately i
don't expect the leafs to be able to claim 12 of 14 possible points every single couple of weeks
for the remainder of the season although they kind of have to to make the playoffs well um
but beyond that you got i mean you got to win games you got to look at the the things that
you're good at pk seems to be something they're pretty good at and if you saw they don't draw a
lot of penalties but they don't take a lot of penalties either relative to other teams in the
league right boston has taken 50 more penalties than the leafs have that's all that's a lot and
i was i was pretty surprised by that number yeah it's one like the leafs are like 133 and 136 like
florida's up in the 200s you know so if you're able to not burn out your pk which the leafs have
been guilty of the last few years too right they took a lot of dumb stick penalties and whatever
you put yourself in a really good spot and you know on five on five it prevents you from having
to play guys like phil myers and simo benoit too much and i thought brandon carlo coming back last
night was great and i'll tell you why he was excellent yep here's why i think brandon carlo
was great i didn't fucking notice him that is unless he was clearing a body in front of the net
riley was very very good too and they played together he was he was stop it stop it riley
was okay no he wasn't very good riley was okay did you see what hey you saw what happened that
led to the penalty at the end of the second period right no what happened the leafs need
to rag the puck what's riley do headmans it and then here come the panthers they go straight
through riley he takes and they take a penalty if he just rags it with 10 seconds to go goes
back around his net and just waits for the period to end which is what everybody would do he's like
no let's go for a scoring chance and we'll create and then the leafs got another puck over glass
from philip myers who i mentioned who handles the puck like it's a live grenade i have the
perfect solution adam what i think the penguins need to get morgan riley so you can put all your
hate in one place i don't hate morgan right why do you also don't hate do this i just liked how
much time the puck spent on morgan riley's stick last night yes i found that every time he got the
puck near the blue line he would hang on to it and just hang on to it i'm like make a decision
Either you're going to throw your muffin that's going to probably bounce off something and end up in the netting, or you're going to pass the puck.
I will say this.
There were a few times in the ozone where I was like, what was that?
What?
And you can do that every single game.
But they beat the Panthers 4-1.
So positives, right?
Well, I yell and scream about this team enough.
I think we do need to talk about that.
Oh, it's valid.
Jonas and James, I think we're talking about Leaf Report the other day.
It's like it seems like this is an offseason where you sit him down because they tried last season.
You have to.
And you go, Morgan, I think your time here is over.
You have to.
I think he would welcome it.
And people are talking about, well, he's put up a lot of points, whatever.
Yeah, but it reminds me of when JVR, Tyler Bozak, and Phil Kessel played together.
It's like, wow, they score all these goals, but they got outscored.
Yeah, guys, it's a goal scoring contest and you're losing.
Carlo, I will grant you, when Riley and Carlo were placed together last year, that's when Riley was very good.
that's when his numbers took off so if that continues i'm open to it and i will be in if
we sit here at the at the olympic break and we go damn riley's numbers have gotten better
and carlo's not injured and look at that it's great i'll be held happy i'm fascinated by what
they look like once mccabe is back oh me too it's such a shame a week or something oh i know
or the hell might be next season he might retire yeah I don't know Nylander by the way who was day
to day three weeks ago uh still hasn't played still hasn't even practiced dude he skates on
his own he had a great career he was in the press box last night wearing a coat uh not in his tank
top yeah but you know what was under it stop it Jesse yeah I think it was like a flannel or
something under it oh my maybe under that was the tank top but he had at least a couple two layers
ahead of the tank top last night there's your tank top report yeah i like that you know what
let's keep this up although they're all they are on the road next week and it's a bunch of late
games which is a bummer but they go to philly what tomorrow philly tomorrow and then what are
they vancouver saturday at home vancouver saturday at home and then next week's the first time all
season they're going to west coast and playing games over my lfr nightmare and the top prospects
games are also happening in there too you're gonna be tired you're gonna be a tired boy
that's fine that's great i'm stoked let's go so we gotta get to uh flyers and ducks because
there's hatred here uh and it's funny because these two teams do a lot of business together
what a weird rivalry um the management groups seem to like to work together because obviously
the cutter goche jamie drysdale trade and then you have the trevor zegras trade and it makes sense
to deal with each other because you're not in the same division or conference but it means that
the fans and the media and the players whole hate each other holy now let's start with the most
important part of the night which is this trevor's egress selly he had two goals last night and look
at this he does the phone call thing now if you're unaware uh the story goes that when the ducks
called him and told him he was traded they said trevor you've been traded the philly and hung up
the phone really so that's why he did the thing he hung up the phone on the ducks because he's like
you know screw you guys i know i know verbeek has a reputation as kind of a prickly guy and
he was a prickly player uh like who knows what the you know what the full truth of that story is
i don't care how tumultuous your relationship was with this kid you don't need to treat people that
way well i'd say the same for the flyers of cutter gochi but you know a hundred percent yeah but yeah
agreed you don't need to do that but i think that verbique was probably sick of zegras and
zegras was probably sick of verbique and he was probably like i'm not even there's no pretense
anymore go fuck yourself i'm still probably that's what it was why well i know part of it
was greg cronin like when you look at uh where zegras went wrong remember he was on the cover
of a video game dude right like i'm just looking cronin shows up and they're like you need to play
more defense trevor uh which is valid i mean okay so 23 goals 61 points minus 21 23 goals but they
were bad 65 points minus 24 yeah but still they were bad they were bad and i think they were
looking if you were to believe the duck sources they were looking for more maturity out of zegras
um but uh i think more maturity at who i think oh the kid yeah craig i think greg cronin was not
the right coach um and he was like the least liked coach in the league i would put him in
scott arneal territory this year right like not a well-liked guy greg cronin has not accomplished
what scott arneal has no that's true uh but i'm looking at i'm looking at this and i'm thinking
man uh that is a really really good selly the other one that i think we should talk about jesse
is if we can bring up the Ross Johnston hit
on Jamie Drysdale.
Because Cutter Gauthier did score last night too.
So that should not be...
That's awesome.
Yeah, I think that's why you love it.
Dude, that's awesome.
I was saying on the stream yesterday,
every team should have 80 scheduled games
and then the NHL should be able to pick the extra two
where they go, you know what?
There was a lot of hatred between these teams.
Let's put them together in the arena.
I don't hate that in the slightest.
You know?
Put them what?
Grudge match games.
What I think that what my suggestion on the stream last night is, OK, you schedule 80 games and next year we're going to 84.
Right. So you take the NHL gets four games for every team where it's like we're going to put the Panthers and the Lightning back together a couple more times.
We're going to put screw it. Yeah. Or even if it's a couple of games where the NHL can just call the ball in the middle of the season.
I know that's almost impossible logistically, but wouldn't that be sick to have like a couple like it's February, it's grudge match time.
the nhl's made the call you're playing every valentine's day yeah there it is you don't know
who you're playing and the nhl just picks it on valentine's day give me habs bruins oh give me
friggin lightning florida oilers flames yep lightning panthers oh hell yeah adam wilds
give me cook with gas leafs jets baby let's underratedly underrated they still hate each
other they do for half a decade they've hated each other so let's bring this ross johnson hit
up now there will be no supplemental discipline because of this uh yeah it's the nhl this is on
zellweger and we didn't even do the lot in the hit oh we forgot to do the lot yeah yeah oh shit
probably should do the lot and hit yeah you know what we'll get back to it anyway look at that
oh that's been pretty rough hit now the nhl has said that that is a um uh that this is a um
uh an accident incident incidental yeah i where they're coming from on that yeah i i don't
disagree it's you hate you hate looking at a hit where a guy gets being directly in the head and
being like yeah but but i mean like what shots it's supposed to be there like zellweger's doing
a stop up and he's getting lower as the hits coming in and it's just it's unfortunate timing
yes it is it couldn't be more direct to the head yeah but um i think it's just one of those things
it's not just the contact with the head if you go ahead a couple frames jesse
it's the direct contact with the head and then he slams into the boards yeah uh and he got
stretchered off you said no that's not wait who got stretchered off oh that was uh that was the
colasar yeah yeah we'll get to that yeah sorry sorry yeah yeah um you know what's a brutal hit
since we're talking about hits do you want to bring up the lot and hit now uh because then we
can go right to a colasar too sure do you have anything else to say about well flyers i mean
so obviously there's not what i wanted to say there's no supplemental discipline on that
there was a jamie drysdale cheap shot but i don't know if it's at quite this level we'll get to the
lot and hit and then we'll get to the colasar hit because i do want to get your opinions on it do
you have any comments on the ducks really struggling as of late i think they're a young
team like i think i think they're a young team and i think that first off i think guy like leo
carlson got hurt over christmas and i think that's really slowed him up i don't think he's playing
100 you had one of the best offensive players in the league and now he's no longer playing like it
like that'll sink you right there yeah and and i think people don't you know because we pay
attention because he's canadian bedard in chicago and you look what's happened to them since since
he went down i think very very similar uh in anaheim with a guy like leo carlson when you're
not he's playing but he's not performing Chris Kreider has kind of really cooled off as well
he had a hot start he was ridiculously you're good you're gonna need that back and and I also
think with a young team up front you're going to hit this part of the year especially it's the dog
days and it's a compressed schedule like we talked we're trying to schedule a meeting here at SDPN
and the Leafs are playing like literally every other day and we're trying to figure out one
where we're not coming off of a late night but that's what's happening the two-day break the
Leafs just had is their last one before the Olympics every other day right so that game
day off game day off game other game day off game day off yeah I think it's gonna be the Ducks are
this is a real test here it really really is and and that's that's what I think it is Jesse and I
don't know what you if you've got any disagreements with that I think it's a young team that's
You hit in the middle of the season and it's hard, you know?
Now, let's look at Lawton because this hit is a big one.
It's good that actually we're doing this all together.
Craig Berube called this a penalty 10 times out of 10.
This is A2 Luster Reinen.
He's got a penalty 95% of the time.
Oh, 95% of the time.
He wasn't as sure as your numbers.
Oh, okay.
Well, I actually, when I first-
You made up the numbers out of Craig Berube's mouth.
Still an A plus.
Yeah, I mean, listen, if we're at a 5% differential,
what's the big deal?
um i i look at i look at this hit and the first time i saw it i was like well he had the puck
though and then once i saw it again remember i saw it live yeah and i'm sorry i didn't have a
perfect reaction when i saw it live uh but i i and and it's funny because they asked scott
after the game uh when he was talking to the refs and the ref said well you saw him coming and he's
like yeah and i did but still so tell me if i'm looking at this and i it's the first time i've
seen it and he does handle the puck and he does see luster ryan and coming why is this a penalty
steve and jesse because it's direct in the numbers from behind in a dangerous spot lotten saw him
coming so what are we doing what the ref is talking about is lotten gets the puck along the boards
and he does a little shoulder check you can kind of see it there it's a little zoomed out but he
does a shoulder check so he he knows that a hit is kind of coming but his back is also turned to
the play and there's not enough time to turn around and absorb the hit the expectations
on the ref on Lawton are absurd and otherworldly like a human can't do that and if whether or not
Lawton sees the the player coming that doesn't mean it's not a penalty if I look you in the eye
and then you cross-check me in the face yeah it's still a cross-checking penalty the Lawton
was monitoring the play and therefore innocence the Brady Kachuk thing yeah no the NHL is having
a big week when it comes to monitoring a lot doing a shoulder check here is immaterial to the fact
that he got hit directly in the number he plays the puck which he is eligible to do which he
should be doing in that moment so the ref is saying okay you're skating over here to get the
puck you should instead of turning to play the puck turn and try and absorb the hit with the
side of you instead of playing the puck which is ridiculous thing don't tell the player what to do
so i won't call a penalty just call the penalties that you see with your eyes yeah and you know the
we're recording what time is it right now look how direct that is into his number it's it's
hilarious and uh it is 104 back i i if if he gets anything it'll be a fine i don't think he's
getting anything he didn't even get a penalty during the game like this this is a prime
candidate for supplemental discipline because it happens in the middle of the game there was no
call right so you can't be like all right penalty served so this is a prime candidate for look at
that bullshit oh my god so you could yeah you could find him here i i asked a question and and
uh i don't care how childish or biased it makes me sound um colin campbell is the executive vice
president uh and i think director of hockey operations for the nhl his son gregory campbell
is the assistant general manager of the florida panthers and good fortune has a good fortune in
terms of supplementary discipline has followed gregory campbell around going all the way back
to his playing days and it was found in emails uh subpoenaed emails from a court case in 2010
that colin campbell um was calling mark savard a fake artist after getting hit by famously clean
player uh uh matt cook and like naming the worst rat in the entire nhl like
worst rats of all time of all the names to come after famously clean player matt cook is the
funniest they changed the rules because he was so fucked and oh yeah just uh colin campbell's in the
hockey hall of fame so he got caught calling marks of art a little fake artist after getting
blindsided by matt cook and also complaining to officials about the way his son's games were
officiated he didn't directly say his son if i'm not mistaken but we know it's his son because of
the work of tyler dello who was a blogger at the time and if you're like oh you're gonna believe
the word of some blogger he is currently the assistant general manager of the carolina hurricanes
so and when you say complaints to officials you're talking about an email that was sent by him
to an nhl official that we got to read the writing and he had the balls to write all of this down and
not just make a phone call that we couldn't know happened yes he wrote an email just said hey
don't call these penalties right so because his son got three penalties in a game yes and
what happened when that came to light he was asked about it and he was like well i didn't
think anyone was going to remind you else he was not suspended he was not fired he kept his job
and got inducted into the hockey hall of fame with a resume that frankly sucks if you read it
They're like, oh, he coached good players.
What the fuck?
Okay, but how does that pertain to this?
Now, let me all put it in a bun.
He argued with officials on behalf of officiating his son's games a certain way and was not punished for it.
And the question I asked in last night's LFR is what reason is there to believe that he ever stopped?
Well, he was never punished.
You're right.
he did it he was never punished he's protected he still has his job what reason is there to believe
that he ever stopped if anything he got rewarded for it he literally got rewarded for it this
happened he's in the hockey hall of fame this happened and the only thing that's happened
afterwards to him are good things like by the hockey community has rallied around him and given
him the highest honor in the sport after those things happen the list of players the list of
builders in the hall of fame or sorry the list of players in the list of builders not in the hall
of fame and he is is a black eye on the sport and it is completely disgraceful i asked the question
again he was caught asking for his son's games to be officiated a certain way 16 years ago well
actually it came to light 16 years ago it happened a lot longer ago he kept his job was never punished
still works there what reason is there to believe that he ever stopped if you're a ref and you like
your job and you're a fan of eating and sleeping with a roof over your head and something happens
in a panthers game i'm gonna keep my whistle away i'm gonna keep my whistle away because
gregory campbell's the agm we just moved in i got a recliner i like it it's comfy i'm not i'm not
i'm not i'm not i'm not i'm not doing it i'm not doing it what reason is there go ahead in the
comments right now what reason is there to believe that he ever stopped the whole point of supplementary
discipline the whole point like supplementary discipline in sports but the whole point of
punishing anyone for anything is to get him to stop doing it a deterrent a deterrent i punch
adam in the face right now i go to jail because that's society going hey steven don't do that
you're not allowed to there are consequences to your action right and i go to jail and it's scary
in there and i don't like it and so when i leave the hope is stephen is now afraid of jail and
will no longer punch adam yes colin campbell received no discipline for asking people to
call his son's games a certain way why would he ever stop you get to go on the ice when he hoists
the cup yeah that's a cool moment i want to i want to keep that going greg greg greg greg
i'm just saying it's funny like fortune just follows the panthers around it's the strangest
thing why is it funny that gregory campbell when he was with the bruins that fortune followed them
too yeah the the biggest longest suspension in stanley cup final history went to aaron
room for his hit on nathan horton horrible hit horrible fucking hit but it just happened to be
it's interesting uh last hit jesse let's see we were talking earlier about how much you don't
like the panthers do you think this adds to it oh that they get everything that they get everything
remember we were talking about how you you hate them yeah more than more than the hatred of the
Bruins? You know what I screamed in my TV?
I think this is a part of it. I screamed, of course.
Yeah.
Look at Lawton! Look at Lawton
and how not hurt he was. Yeah, this is
Lawton after getting crushed into
the boards. I was surprised they let him on the ice because you're not supposed
to be on the ice bleeding, but he took the next face off.
No, that's intermission. Yeah, he went over
to the refs and was like, hey, look at you.
Did you see in the third period, too, the
linesman told him to fuck off?
He kicked him out. So the linesman
kicked him out of...
You don't mouth off to Colin's team.
The linesman kicked him out on, I think, the Myers penalty for the first faceoff in the Leafs zone.
And then he was just barking at them.
And the linesman said, hey, you, fuck off.
And I was like, whoa.
I think that happens a lot more.
It does happen a lot more.
He was heated.
It happens a lot, but it's way funnier when it happens on Shorzy.
Because that's a TV show that is fictional.
I've said this for years.
NHL players and NHL refs
have no decorum and
their professional relationship
is untenable.
I still remember the HBO
documentary Leafs
Penguins. It was Dion Phaneuf and
Harry Zolnerchuk were
screwing with each other. Zolnerchuk's doing his
thing because he's trying to get the captain of the
Leafs off the ice and he's some dude
playing three, four minutes a night. And the ref
goes, you, you, fuck
both you guys.
Sends him to the box. What?
Are we talking about this is why I say
the sign sticks thing with Marsh and all the time
it's just literally true, but
the referee telling a
player to fuck off to me is like as much
as them drop in the pocket. Yeah, it's up like that
seems normal, but I thought it was
and that's all he said. I don't
bat an eye to a ref mouth and off to an
NHL player because I think that's just how they get along, but
I think until they don't
yeah, until the ref goes, you know what
you're 19. So go
fuck yourself Adam. Cindy probably right and
go find yourself Connor Bedard. Yeah,
and they know could they pick and choose that's true all the of course it's true it's me saying
it i'm right oh gosh i know i know i know no now i'm just feeling all right um we're done here
all right yeah next one hegan colasar on hayden flurry now that's in the that's in the thing
wait wait wait wait wait wait let me what hayden flurry not on the panthers okay okay well we
We haven't seen anything about it yet.
Okay.
Which is annoying.
That's important to bring up, though.
Oh, this is...
Yeah.
No, I mean like that he's not on the Panthers.
Yeah, no.
Because that provides context for if the NHL will react to it or not.
Yeah.
We should have a Twitter account that's just Panther or no Panther.
Panther or nah.
Just take all the people that are like, you know, Geno Hart and all these accounts that post clips.
And then be like, all right, Panther or nah.
Panther or nah.
um this oh this hits crazy because colasar catches hayden flurry not only skating backwards after a
pass he is finishing his neck but he this to me counts at very least as a charging
because it's three strides right and he catches him hard he is in a vulnerable spot it is a clean
hit except that look at where the contact takes place jesse can you go back to the beginning here
um so so look at look at colasar right there he is does not break stride and hayden flurry turns
around shows him his numbers and look at where hayden flurry is right now he's at the hash marks
or just above them look at how long this hit is it's like six or seven feet when they before
look before they break contact it's huge you don't see things like this happen often where a guy's
going back to play a puck and there's another player there looking to lay a giant hit on him
it's it's rare it's a lot of things going wrong all at once like uh flurry is the way he's pivoting
is directly contributing to the momentum of the hits like he's going with the hit he lands on his
bum and basically falls he hits the boards with like oh fuck sake it's like just above his shoulder
blades and he just folds i it's not it's uncomfortable has there been an update there
has like a medical one yes i don't have one the jets the jets said he was at the hospital
his extremities are moving like that's crazy that they had to tweet that they had to say that they
then had to limit the replies and adam lowry and colasar fought after this because lowry's like
we're gonna go and lowry won um it wasn't like the craziest fight ever seen it wasn't like the
reeves and olivier fight last night oh my god that was nuts but uh it you know they had to
you have to fight after something like that um i am curious about when i saw it last night i thought
here's a low risk thing for the nhl player safety group to say we're doing our jobs give them two
games and and you go oh look at oh see we're good two games for what charge i think that's a pretty
aggressive charge i think he that was a targeted intent to injure charge and you can't convince me
i have a hard time intent to injure i think just no flat you think no so how much do you weigh in
him having the puck he didn't though he did well he had just gotten finishing his hit he's eligible
to be hit here right like he has like here he's making a pass he's what what i would say like if
it's anything it's what adam is saying i do think like okay that's why i say it's low risk for player
safety to go a little overboard that's why i say two rather than one right yeah but then you got
to call this every well no you don't you don't think it's precedent it'll never happen again
right no it's funny we used to say things like that and now we have no faith in the system so
there's no point i don't think it's intent to injure but you are allowed to punish a guy for
negligence i just i don't know if that's what's happening here like how
when have we ever really seen this like i get hit before the face-off dot yeah and then hit
the end boards that go superman flying into the ice like it's rare i i don't remember ever seeing
something exactly like but i think that's there's a charge there guys like he doesn't break stride
at all that's the key for me yeah the puck but but from no but still from blue line to where he
he makes contact that's still a charge when ever since tory krug killed a guy in the blues bruins
uh final in 2019 i'm like okay i don't know what charging is they never call charging
okay i don't know what it is it's a three stride that's the three stride rule three stride yeah
but what kind of stride well exactly right like it's crew if you go back and watch that it's like
i don't know 15 but it's if you do it a certain way it's okay it also wasn't a penalty on the ice
like nothing was called it was just a hit yep and then they fought afterwards and got the five for
fighting but like and and listen i think it was charging if we're calling the game the way it
should have been shouldn't lowry get a uh instigator instigator i like you know what i mean like listen
i'm not saying i think it was a willing combatant so no okay yeah all right yeah well that's like
domey akblad i'm like akblad started it but also domey's like that's why i'm here that's why i
think the instigator rule is dumb it's well that's another very selectively applied yeah it's real
pick and choose this is one where i'm like i'm usually very opinionated about these things i
don't know what to do with this one totally i'm having a hard time here i think this is a one
gamer i'm for chart out one game i think player safety's got an opportunity to to put the howling
steves away and go here's two but i think it's a one game i think we already would have got a
announcement of uh of a hearing yeah two i i just struggle to see like two for what specifically
the result of the player getting injured this is the problem yeah right like they do they do
base it on that sometimes though it's a tough one it's a tough one so yeah anyway it's a uh
we'll leave it at that it's not fun for for anybody involved there three i don't think
Colasar just thought that was
going to be the result when he's going for that.
The Department of Player Safety's last tweet was two days ago,
so I don't think anything's happening.
The tweet said, I love Steve Dangle.
Hey!
I love you too. Hey, if you run
their Twitter account, I know it's not you.
We
have to miss a few different things, so we'll
fire the extra here because we just went a little long,
but I'll try to save some of the stuff we were going to get
to for next episode.
The week after the holidays is hard. You're in content
debt. Yeah. And it's
going to be very hard to get to everything because of the
compressed schedule. Yeah. So
anyway, I got to get to the Zane Perak thing
though. Freaking flame. No.
Come on. It's over.
