This is your round of applause.
You sit down.

Sit down, Jesse Blake.
Sit down.
My goodness.
All of you.
No.
Wow.
No.
Listen, to quote the Calgary Roughnecks in arena guy, whenever somebody else on the other
team gets a penalty, sit down, Jesse, and shut up.
That's what they say at the Calgary Roughnecks.
They do?
Yeah.
That's what they say at the Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse games.
Do they play at the Saddle Dome, too?
They do.
Oh, yeah.
Do they have asbestos in their lungs?
No, they do not.
But they used to.
Jesus!
That place is so old and broken.
It is old.
It's probably got asbestos in there.
It's not old and broken.
Broken yet character, Jesse.
That's what they say about old things that are old and broken.
That's right.
That's right.
It has a charm.
It's cozy, you would say, the Saddledome.
Houses that are like run down.
They're like, a cozy home.
Yeah.
It's a cozy feel as is.
That's how people describe me, too.
It's just, oh, no.
oh no broken oh no but jesse i just we would what do you want to say what do you want to say
well no no i'm i'm i i just wanted to point out that over the last two nights
jesse has streamed for 10 and a half hours okay 10 and a half hours so tuesday i thought the
world was gonna end that way i thought we were all gonna die watching dodger stadium and we
You're never going to get out of that because the Blue Jays decided that they were going to have their Buffalo Bison's team plus Vladdy out there.
Yeah, because John Schneider switched everybody as he always does towards the end of the actual game.
And then a whole other baseball game broke out for another nine innings.
So, yeah, I had to stream for I was so upset at the end when I realized I streamed for six hours, 59 minutes and 30 seconds.
Yeah, you didn't get quite get to seven at the end.
so on the stream i was like oh we're two minutes till three yeah i'll just go on we'll just chat
for another two minutes i'll shout out where you're watching 3 a.m 3 a.m yes not three hours
3 a.m is when we had to cut off because the game was over i was like oh i'll just go till i hit
seven hours on the clock on the youtube and then i didn't realize that i didn't start right at eight
i must have started at like eight and then 30 seconds in 8 p.m so then going at three and i
cut it off i was like ah 30 seconds short so it was all for a waste it was all for nothing well
jesse mike medano blake yeah really right there really 99 could add the longest one ever but you
know somebody'll have to produce a babcock's like hurry this enough but i was like here's my phone
bunch of bitching with my dog yeah it was um it was brilliant you know what there's nothing better
than seeing a bases loaded situation and extra innings and miles straw walking up to the plate
i love i love that oh three innings later miles struck again yeah oh here he is with his 182
batting average okay all right there was a guy that's gonna ground this ball out there was a
guy on the dodgers yesterday uh during the broadcast they're like um he came into the
game in the 13th inning he went to bat three times like what what does that mean what do you mean
Eric Lauer pitched almost five innings.
He pitched like 60 pitches.
He had 68 pitches on the night, shut out the whole time.
Yeah, amazing.
And then because the baseball gods,
they can't give us anything good in those moments.
Brendan Little has to be the guy.
I know.
I felt sick for him.
I felt terrible for him.
And he was good.
They were trying everything just to not use him.
They didn't want to put him out there at all.
You know what's crazy?
They didn't need to put him on the World Series roster.
They could have put someone else on there.
yeah that that is i'm assuming burrios is hurt um yeah he can't pitch he can't pitch okay because
he was bad at the end of the year dude they the dodgers were warming up their starter from the
night before the jays were warming up their what if shane bieber had pitched that would be crazy
uh what after the gem he pitched in game four what if he had pitched in game addison barger
threw a 99 mile an hour uh right field toss and then they asked you think you could pitch and
he's like yeah in fact i've told them to put me in uh i i don't know if that's a good idea but uh
no no it's not they might blow it as hard but 99 miles an hour i'm like yeah if you got to a point
where you needed to throw somebody out there um addison would be a good option dave roberts told
the fox broadcast that he wanted to use uh rojas on their squad um to pitch next oh wow instead of
trying to use yamamoto who just had the complete game gem uh two nights ago he's gonna throw out
rojas and see what what you can do so it would have got really squirrely if we got to the 19th
yeah no kidding well you know and and all the other thing is is like what happens drew was
pointing out what happens if they run out of baseballs because they were close um that's a
fun fact they rubbed up maybe you know more about that than i do they rubbed up 290 balls and they
used over 220 of them yeah so they were they were running out of baseballs for allocate but they had
started preparing new balls oh they were they were going to play catch up as things went on
and try and just like keep filling the balls that need to be filled so they had balls prepared for
like yesterday's game you know so they started to rub those as the game went on if we had gotten to
the 19th and 20 and everything but yeah we were on the verge of losing baseball yes that's crazy
that's for not having baseball sorry like yeah any fans who caught foul balls throw them back
we need balls oh my god jesse you streaming that whole thing and not losing an ounce of energy the
whole time is one of the most impressive things i've ever seen on the internet honestly you know
it's a fucking liar who scott hansen why scott hansen why are you mad at scott hansen's the
dude if you're not a football fan he does red zone every sunday yeah he does eight hours of
commercial free it's not so much anymore it's not commercial oh yeah i can't say that line
this fucking big broadcast corporation yeah putting ads in our shit anyways scott and on
our fridge right or on our ai fridge that's right and steve's gonna go mega viral you can't have a
snack until you watch this ad million views so scott hansen does red zone every sunday where
they show all of the football games that go on all day long and he stands there for eight
consecutive hours and he does all the games he shows every score that happens and doing me doing
seven hours solo i realized that what he does is pretty easy when you have like 10 million dollars
behind you a billion dollars behind you in the nfl but whenever he talks about it like he does
interviews and like oh you're the red zone guy how is that how do you go to the washroom and all that
he talks about like he's going to war he talks about it like he's fighting in vietnam every
sunday i'm like they probably make that so easy for you if i can do that my chair sitting there
and i did it once i never want to do it again because it was brutal he can probably do it once
a week and you think about 10 million dollars amount of producers behind that's just you right
you're running your own graphics you're running your own stream we have somebody on there managing
the chat so that's not a robert malloy who was around for the full seven hours but uh justin as
well justin as well nobody is nobody is uh when you're doing reds listen i'll be honest with you
i read uh i read a book by one of my favorite british radio hosts once his name's chris evans
he does Virgin Radio in the UK now. And he said, he's like, the one thing you have to be
brutally honest with yourself about when you do what we do is you have to realize that this is
not hard work. And he's like, unless you've done hard work in your life, you don't know
that it's not hard work. He's like, I see too many people because he's done TV and radio.
He's like, I've seen too many people talk about how hard this is or, oh, we had 12 hours. He's
like man i used to work uh hard labor when i was a teenager that's hard work this is not hard work
and it's long work but it's not like it's it's very very different and i think jesse i think
what you did was pretty freaking gargantuan like i i don't run my own graphics i don't i don't run
my own stream i don't know how to do that um and i and i think it's pretty cool that we were i was
watching it like 2 30 in the morning and there's 5 000 people concurrently going up yeah i don't
know who i guess the europe was waking up and tuning in or something but what are you still
doing here because the west coast too i was i was given i was given some hell to all the people on
the west coast i was like it's 2 a.m here and it's only like 11 for you guys you don't even know
what staying up is so it's a little it was funny but uh yeah i guess more west coast people tuned
into that number it just kept picking up as we got deeper into the night yes yeah and then you
were at our 10 a.m meeting the next day no no i did not make it the next day i barely made it to
the 8 p.m stream yes i couldn't believe you woke up to tell us you're not coming i tried i got up
and then it was like uh like 30 minutes or like 40 minutes in the mean i was like even if i left
right now i'd probably be late did you even make it into the shower no no i was walking around i
was like i can't do it's crazy you even got out of bed that's that's crazy yeah and it was great
to see the jays win and uh get one back and you know what was crazy is like going into this like
they had in multiple cases loaded up bases got people in the scoring position and just for
whatever reason not been able to thrown out at home thrown out yeah thrown out at home a couple
times uh it was nice to see them break it open a little bit and it was a good omen that they lost
the 18 inning one because in the previous 18 inning game in the world series it was
red sox and dodgers in 2018 the red sox lose the 18 inning game to the dodgers yeah red sox go on
to win the world series there you go i i thought the whole time i'm like no matter who wins this
game the jays are winning game four and probably game five that's what it's it's just the way
like think of how important chris bassett was yesterday yeah they used literally every pitcher
but i was like think of how fresh some of their most important guys are yeah like did they manage
the bench very well no no they did not but i i thought it was going to affect the dodgers and
they there's no way they were gonna uh the jays were gonna lose game four game five we'll see
but i'm still pretty confident and it was great pitching performances by like everybody out there
yeah like um you have you have your little louis varland appearance because every single game that
uh the blue jays play john snare has to put louis varland in there oh my god and he's still
throw a 98 man he's still doing it like it's amazing and shane bieber shows up and he does
a shane bieber thing and he limits that offense he was clearly tired a little it was it was a
great performance all around like you said adam the bats woke up and they did truly had a good
blue jays bats game that they've been having all postseason all along they they're great at getting
people on base they were just in that and there's so many missed opportunities in that 18 inning
game where they didn't get anything past the second and third base right and and you look at
i i just want to say like what is amazing to me about them like first off vladimir guerrero jr
is a true star he's a true star in a way that toronto hasn't seen some since kawaii leonard
and smacking a home run off otani otani world series yeah to put the team up come on that is
that that's the thing like you know i i think there have been we've been and i'm gonna i'm
gonna take this back to the other team that's in this in this city uh one of the other teams
that's in the city but the one that hasn't won yet quickly does not deserve your hate adam um
i think no they won in 19 they deserve that's right not with him though um what i what i see
from vladdy i don't know i picked a name out of a hat the moment is going to come let him talk yeah
man dude you're just fucking having your own conversation over there the fuck are you talking
to steve's like anyway yeah so i just woke up scratched my balls this morning and i don't know
guys who are you chatting to your game was over by 8 30 last night you can't be tired you're not
listening right steve are you gonna be one of those old men who just tell stories that go around
100 i come from a long line of them oh yeah absolutely you're gonna be abe simpson oh yeah
i tied a turn up to my belt which are never gonna end no no they're gonna be filled with details
that nobody cares i think i was wearing a gray tie that night it might have been blue uh
oh and i still remember everything so i'm gonna tell you every
banal detail that's how i know that uh wow i will not be that guy because i can't remember anything
so adam remembering details like whatever tell your freaking thing i just want to say that he's
there from the top yes please sorry so so the top don't worry i didn't get much past the top jesse
So, you know, what I was going to go with was it's amazing to see an athlete in Toronto because the moments will come.
If you're great, the moments will find you.
And when the moment comes, Vlad rises to the occasion.
He's now hit more home runs than any person ever in a Blue Jays jersey in the playoffs.
And there have been a lot of guys who played a lot more games than Vlad has.
This run of his.
I mean, I know Shohei's got eight home runs.
i know vlad's got seven we're talking about the best baseball player in the world probably next
to the best baseball player that's ever played in canada and i'm looking at this moment and going
you know that felt to me like kawaii uh that crazy shot that he hit jesse was at that game
that was against philly right yeah that was the mp that was the 76 dunking over yannis dunking
over Giannis yeah like this this guy hits whatever the moment comes he's ready for it and you know
you can't expect your stars to hit every moment like even Sidney Crosby and Nathan McKinnon have
failed uh despite you know uh despite their iron will but what's amazing is now there's a new bar
being set and I think it's really important that we don't forget this bar like I think when we saw
Hawaii it was like oh that's crazy and then COVID hit and it scrambled everybody right some people
have never come back from covid um so you could be forgiven for remembering or not remembering how
unbelievable kawaii was how unbelievable kyle lowry was on the way to that raptors championship
with vlad i'm looking at him i'm like this first off this guy's gonna be the most famous athlete
in canada already is oh and if they win like and secondly being a toronto sports fan and being told
hey it's your fault or or hey you know they'll get them next year or hey their expected goals
was actually pretty high um you know what i what i see is we have a bunch of guys who are
local stars maybe notable league wide but a true superstar we do not have and it doesn't mean that
what's been frustrating about it is the talent has always been there and austin to me has the
talent i don't know if he's healthy we're going to talk about that yeah um he has the talent but
to be a true superstar you must do it when it matters you look at sid you look at evgeny
malkin the season he's having jack eichel now jack eichel in 2022 on their run to the stanley
cup finals nathan mckinnon's run with the with the the abs matthew kachuk um with the florida
panthers like you you have to you have to be that best player in those hardest moments against the
best players he just took the best player in the world yard that's crazy best player ever best
player ever to ever play baseball and i just i needed to say that because i feel like we have
let you know people have been like you guys are too hard on the Leafs you guys are too hard on
the Leafs no i i think that the Blue Jays are showing us that in fact uh everybody who was like
hey uh this isn't good enough was right we know what the bar is yes yeah we all we didn't know
though because we don't have a lot of wins in this city right people make up fairy tales uh in
fantasies to make themselves feel better about the monster under their bed and that's what you know
the scary fan thing is with the leafs you know you talk about local stars and then superstars
yeah local stars the leafs hockey like the chasm between hockey and baseball oh it's crazy is insane
yeah and sometimes in this market and in this country we don't appreciate it until it's staring
us right in the face until the jays are faced with a moment like this you know until like i
remember 2019 i was like charles barkley is standing in a place where i've stood that's crazy
he's in maple leaf square right now oh wait no we don't call it that right now it's jurassic park
Shaq's there that's crazy Stephen A Smith and uh uh what was it uh who was the other guy
gun to the earth guy oh Max Kellerman Max didn't Max Kellerman say the gun to the earth thing in
Toronto wasn't that an in Toronto clip no because that was that was that in Toronto I don't know it
was one of those it was one of those ones where they were on location I want to say it was during
that playoff yeah I think it was yeah yeah might be right it might that might be Toronto might be
responsible for gun to the earth i'm just throwing that's crazy that's crazy i'll never put those
two things together no but like you have to talk to people who are from other places and uh places
where something else is far and away the primary sport they will laugh you out of the room every
time you tell them the pressure is too much on doesn't have to be the least like on my hockey
team the vancouver canucks the montreal canadians the new york rangers or whatever that doesn't
that atmosphere does not exist for all 32 NHL teams.
It's not even close.
Right.
What are you talking about?
Right.
Dodgers and Blue Jays are in the world series.
And,
and even though I'm excited and I don't want to,
I don't want to make it about this every time,
but I do feel like we've been sold a bill of goods every year for the last
10 years that this team can win championships or that it was going to
Toronto Leafs that it was going to,
that it was going to happen.
Just,
just what are they?
they kept saying bet on talent bet on talent bet on talent and i understand why they said that but
it didn't work out and i look at the way the leafs snuck out a win against the calgary flames last
night i was more optimistic about it we'll talk about and we are going to talk about it but i just
i'm like these are two teams in two different places and i think the other thing that the
least forgot how to be because in the shanahan era they were so sequestered from the public
because you know we wouldn't want to put too much pressure on them is so they were inaccessible
and they weren't likable.
They are seen as whiners,
whether that's fair or not.
They were seen as whiners,
prima donnas, things like that.
And I don't think that that's
necessarily a fair characterization,
but I think the chasm between
the team put between
the media and the players
and therefore the people
that consume the media, the fans,
it created this sort of icy feeling
of the Toronto Maple Leafs
like they didn't care.
And I do think that they do.
um and it's it's been it's just such a there's a lot going on right now but for me the likability
of the blue jays is something where i haven't felt i haven't felt that warm fuzzy feeling
for a while for team yes winning helps but cj even talked about it on the cj show there's a
there's something special about this group of guys because they don't quit do you ever leave
a game when they lost in 18 innings or they lost game two did you ever feel like the blue jays
didn't care or didn't try i was nope nope i was immediately like they're winning tomorrow like
with the leafs i know playoff games where i'm like yeah they just didn't feel like it tonight
oh my god last year or from from the spring playoff games there's not a single game i've
watched for the blue jays this postseason where i'm like man they didn't give it their all that
game how about the mere term you know what i'm starting to resent so deeply the term
schedule loss oh i hate it i hate it when does the other team come to town and have one of those
never in toronto can you have one of those please get out of here anyway anyway i don't know that
the team subscribes to that by the way the jays are extremely good which certainly helps and
likable yep they're they were likable even back in the summer when it wasn't obvious they were
going to do this but they went on like a little run and they were scrappy you know it's fun and
they're getting some walk-offs my i want to say didn't miles straw have like a walk-off and it
they were it was a great return to form from last year where they were deeply unlikable because
they stunk in the team the the executives were like trust us and we're all like why
why on earth this is i want to say this is the type of run the leafs always thought they were
gonna have where because eventually they'd break through well if yes us telling you you're wrong
forever the evidence in front of us being that you're wrong forever playoff choke after playoff
choke how many consecutive post seasons did they not win a game four and then they finally busted
through and i know brendan shanahan's in a room somewhere gone we needed one more we needed one
more here yeah now jess you know jess you are far more of a multi-sport guy than steve all right uh
what are your thoughts on likability of a team because i think there's going to be people that
say adam i think that was an unfair characterization because it's always easier to like a team that
wins totally um what do you think about the leafs and i'm talking about the public perception here
it seems like you know obviously focus in toronto is on the jays but it does seem like people are
going are kind of going wow uh this is this is a lot different than how it's felt with the Leafs
even at their best in this era yeah and I look at the Blue Jays team this year obviously like you
said it's easy when you're winning to be likable you know it's it's you're gonna win a bunch of
games the fans are gonna like you but the Blue Jays also don't have the little moments that the
Leafs have where sometimes they're even there's animosity towards their fans I think of last
season when austin was upset with the reaction in scotia bank arena to the ryan reeves fight that
happened reeves hadn't fought in a while he gets out there he's a there's a big scrap the bench
goes wild but like the reaction in scotia is a little a little muted right and he goes out there
and he's like i would like to see a bigger pop from the fans the blue jays have always been
fan first and always been so appreciative of the position that they're in that i don't know if if
it's just built up i don't want to call it resentment but built up just everything that
comes with being a toronto maple leaf and the the failures that exist around it there isn't that
we're either the big bad yankees we don't care because yankees fans like they hate their guys
man they're they hate they got their guys they love their guys but they hate them as well you
know it's it's this back and forth and when they lost i never heard one person say you know what
it's the pressure in new york no no nobody says that but um like so but they they'll love aaron
judgmental like hate Aaron Boone and there's all that back and forth their fans but it's a different
attitude the Leafs have a specific attitude about the way they go about their business and it's not
always the most appealing for the average person because a lot of the times it is a little stuffy
in that we're going to run our operation knowing that we don't need to gather your attention
because we already have it and I think that kind of permeates throughout the organization down to
the players and how everything kind of operates and that's where you get the feeling of hey maybe
um they're not totally likable you know it's a whole culture ethos and baseball is a different
atmosphere it is it is and bigger stadiums and cheaper tickets yeah and all that yeah that's
that's a whole thing around it that i think needs to be said that lays into your conversation right
even you go down to the little things of the rogers center where like you can bring in your
own food because they're a family atmosphere they say bring your cooler with your snacks for leo
because you can do that because we want you to come to this game and that goes to hey our clubhouse
is a lot more accessible by for the media there in toronto i know we own the team and we own the
media so there's a good relationship there but so do the leafs you know so there's a there's a
whole culture around it that i think lends itself to the fans feeling better about the team and
liking the team more in the leafs um if they can change that culture over the next how many years
hopefully they can do it will take years but i think they're trying i think it's starting it's
not an easy thing to fix no it's not and especially when you've raised the group of guys that were
part of that group one way right now one thing i do want to say is i have heard through multiple
different sources that ed rogers and i've said this on the show before it's important i read his
book it's important it's important to him to have championships and i i've heard as as as early as
four or five years ago from people going this guy has said championships championships championships
especially after he really took over rogers he was like that is that's a major part because
obviously when the blue jays do well rogers stock does extremely well and beyond that he his father
their app works it does well for people yeah well we'll talk about that people don't realize that
his father was he was a uh not just a tech conglomerate this guy built a business from
nothing, built that business from nothing, took some crazy swings, almost went bankrupt multiple
times. The guy was an animal. And so when you're growing up in the shadow of somebody like that,
that's really difficult. And I think for him, whether or not, you know, you could say what you
want about, you know, billionaires or whatever, whatever it is. But what is pretty clear is that
it's important to him that they win. And what's happened, the difference is people like, well,
will they own part of the Maple Leafs?
Yes, part.
And what happened in the upstairs
at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment
was, you know,
Bell and Rodgers were sort of
two sides of one coin
and Larry Tannenbaum kind of
with his 26, 27%
was able to flip the coin
whatever way he wanted.
If you could get Larry on side,
you were going to win the vote.
And now that Bell is gone
and Larry is due to divest
of his shares next year,
if reports are to be believed,
then rogers will probably buy larry out of what the 20 he still has because he sold part of it
to omers and then you basically got a full takeover of the rogers group owning all toronto
sports and i think you're already seeing the changes at the top with the maple leafs and the
rafters they've eliminated that president's position and i and i'm pretty sure that again
this what i've heard is that people are not thrilled about where the team the leafs are
currently at rogers and and so you know they got the world series going on they're doing their thing
but they're not thrilled about it and they want they want the team to win and i know that there
were people uh in games five and game seven at you know head office who were extraordinarily
embarrassed by what went down and so they're what at very least i know for through people
that they're seeing what we saw what an encouraging word though embarrassed
i angry bare minimum disappointed not enough embarrassed thank you because they were
both of those games happen on home ice which is just not talked about enough that they lost by
a combined score of was it 11 or 12 12 to 2 that's why we got blamed for it though it was
it was home life it must be it must be the fans so listen i i think um i think we need to take a
to take a second here to brag because um uh ford f-150 which is what i drive of course uh my
brother-in-law's got one that's 15 years old his works beautifully still still going still going
love that winter is upon us or soon to be and you know what i love about that is that when i get to
drive my ford f-150 through the winter i don't have to worry about that you know i got steve
calling me going oh my car's a little too close to the ground i can't i don't know if i'm gonna
get there i don't worry about that i got stuck again steve literally in the winter around here
has to dig himself into a parking spot i had to rock my car out because his car can't get in but
if you had a ford f-150 you wouldn't have those problems well this is the thing right and and
ford f-150s are like ubiquitous you get them for work trucks you get them for family trucks you
whatever what i love about it like i know i've got we've got uh the holidays coming up one of
the things i love about is i i see all these people trying to stuff a christmas tree a real
christmas tree which my wife insists on getting every year and i'm allergic to them but uh she's
like no we gotta get the real tree and i'm like okay and i put it in the back of my truck whereas
everybody else is like in their expensive fancy suvs putting them in right in the truck yeah or
like on the roof or something yeah you just throw it into the bed there and you drive off hanging
through both passenger back passenger windows oh no which is like no i would have never
now here's what we want you to do uh you should check out the ford f-150 there are many many many
different types for you to check out the tremors are so cool i got one right before the tremor
model came out but i wish i had um ready set for check out your local ford dealer for the ford f150
uh and also um you know there's a whole bunch of other great things you should check out but
ford f150 highly recommended by me i believe there's there's a site too that you can visit
what is it jesse or dot ca slash f150 that's really complicated could you repeat it just
in case i didn't get it the first time dot ca slash f150 so there you go sometimes life throws
your curve balls and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and
i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks
about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they
never clean my windows oh and they're way around on that it's like well it's a patio window you
can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the
stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta
have the right company see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker
here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home
repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces

Now, I want to talk about yesterday's game,
the Leafs game,
because it didn't start well.
It did not start well at all,
but it finished really well.
They, for the last five...
Kind of.
i would say i think they've got an issue in goal we'll talk about that with with the exception of
a couple obviously poor moments they dominated not not just were the better team dominated the game
from about 10 minutes into the first period onward um it was a bad start i think they were
outshot 9-3 i don't know exactly what it got up to that's nazem kadri walks through the middle
of the ice i mean that can't happen it just can't happen you took uh the first penalty of the game
as well oliver ekman larson has the worst whistle in the national hockey yeah man that holding call
was crazy yeah i was both of them sucked i was i was about to be like you know oh yeah you gotta
stay out of the freaking box no and then both penalties stunk um but you're getting your show
run by the flames and like okay the flames did well in their last game i don't know if you noticed
but that game really kicked off a hornet's nest in new york with the rangers because the rangers
had struggled to start this season but that game made everyone go okay maybe they're actually
screwed here i came on this show and i was upset because it's the flame yes that was your game
yes new york but it wasn't just you like it wasn't it it spread and it was bad oh yeah oh man do they
need to i was seeing videos this morning like do they need to move off of the core that i uh the
lafreniere stuff it turns out we weren't the only ones to talk about it um and for the rest of the
night after the flames got a one nothing lead they were far and away the inferior team like the the
leafs were much much much better and they did win it in regulation they didn't need overtime right
that game i'm willing to file under hooray i'm willing to file that tell me why tell me why
because i am too yeah and i can't i don't know why though i'm like i'm like hooray about it as
well yes uh but i don't know why i feel that you got two points i'm trying to not put the leafs
in mistake debt um so i'm trying to if they uh when was their game before this tuesday
it was oh it was the night before i'm an idiot um sorry it's uh no no it wasn't it wasn't
yeah i do columbus oh right day saturday there you go sorry the days are all blending together
thank you blue jays um by the way i'm doing a columbus second half columbus back to back up
against jesse tonight wait that's gonna be awesome no the numbers are always good they are
we usually like split it yeah it's kind of weird isn't it um i'm trying to have their bad
previous game or whatever the mistakes made in the previous game not carry over yes so i'm trying
to look at each individual game as what it is um you are going to make mistakes the best teams in
the league make mistakes and they do it in in bad situations i thought it was very funny that the
tsn broadcast was like yeah the leafs they got to get better at defending the rush only to
during that sentence give up a goal off the rush where Kadri just it's a nice goal but like the
Harlem Globetrotters are able to do impressive things against the Washington Generals like
that you're able goals like that are born out of the other team being ass yeah as well as you
having talent can I show the goal oh please on NHL edge because this looks like what you do at
shinny or beer league with your friends so nazim kadri has the puck and he is number 91 with a
little puck there he's just gonna split everybody and just go up the ice all by himself
yeah that's video game shit egregious i i don't so what i am noticing and he does get a little
bit of a pass because he's a rookie cowan but yeah cowan he's been on for a few of these
and where's he going though look at 53 where's he going yeah well you would think right in the
path of cadre and he does a flyby look at the three guys right there he is and fly by that
can't happen jeez can't happen i just to put that out there to start the game i was not happy with
that performance no and you can be forgiven for you know as they're getting outshot into oblivion
and they're down one nothing and that's the goal you allow you could be forgiven for being like oh
no they stink um but but i points in regulation i'm trying to look at like and they outshot them
to hell like that's the thing is after this they came back it was alive it was after the flames got
to 9-3 or whatever it was after their power play the i almost said the jays the leafs outshot them
i think it was 34 to 20 like they did a very very very good job the second goal against i think
you can attribute to it was bad defense but like i've seen worse and stoller should stop that
and the third goal the myers riley thing as awful as it is and i know riley is involved and you're
sick of hearing his name be involved in these conversations i just don't see that as like a
that play happens so rarely and is such an obvious egregious flub that i'm not like because of that
play they're in trouble with that game it helps you no wait a sec that game because
in part because of the way it ended i'm able to look at the mistakes
through the lens of they're still figuring it out and they were the better team and ultimately they
came up with the win if adam wilde came into the studio and says steve i got something for you
and then he goes and he's like don't look at this and then he starts playing this clip
of evan bouchard and evan bouchard throws a puck to the other end of the ice and nobody's there
and it leads directly to a goal how are you reacting i'm looking at his knees and how he
is deploying them um and i would say oh evan and i have to say i was like oh mo and what's funny is
it might not have been mo it might have been myers didn't want the puck which is very contrary to
how the sport is played you're supposed to want are you giving the leafs a little leash here
because you can't go at them every day you can't be upset when they come that is part of it yeah
and like and are we forgiving a mistake that you can't make because in big moments you can't be
making mistakes i am i am far more concerned with goals one and two because those are more likely to
happen on a night-to-night basis if you don't mind your p's and q's then goal three goal three is
just such an egregious piece of garbage that rarely happens and i'd be surprised if myers or
riley made that same mistake again anytime soon clip this um because like that's embarrassing
and it almost costed the game so is a spinning backhand to center ice uh maybe in a playoff game
by a guy who does a lot of spins in pregame
and his security guy probably maybe has a good relationship
with the guy next to him.
You know what's so frustrating, Jesse?
When you first started that,
I thought you were talking about Travis Dermott.
I thought he was too.
No!
And you were talking about Mitch Marner.
How did they do that?
More than once!
Yep.
Not the Dermott one.
The most recent one from this past play.
I don't know.
That can't happen in April.
It shouldn't happen ever.
That can't happen in the playoffs.
It didn't.
It happens now.
And that's the lens I'm trying to look at it through.
I think like, and Morgan Riley knows that, you know,
like you don't need to tell when these athletes make mistakes and they
screw up, they know what they, they screwed up,
but I just don't want to see it.
Yep.
I agree.
I don't want it on my television screen.
I, I, I just, I, I think if you were to give him truth serum,
he'd be like, when I pass the puck, I assume it's to a willing recipient.
well if if Myers is the target here same thing I don't want to see that no I I agree and who
knows if he's in the lineup in the playoff well he gets a lot more leash because he's the seventh
exact guy um but ultimately I I saw them you know we we only talked about the goals against
um what have we begged Max Domi to do well first of all we've been giving it to him because he's
been awful and he still didn't look good on that second goal and producer true pointing out
hilariously before his second goal of the game he was actually a minus one which is that's the
most delightfully max domi stat in the world we've been begging him to shoot it more he's gone too
far in the other direction he does not have an assist yet but he put he puts up two goals in
those game including one with two minutes to go because he's freaking shooting with this missile
of a shot that we just didn't see very much last year all right great matthew nize is developing
into oh the dream player that we all hoped he would in your wildest dreams did you think he
would become this and he's already this he's awesome i said it's been in 25 years since they
had a legit power forward option willie had a had a good game despite like in the first period there
moments where you're like he shouldn't be in this game um you know coming off an injury Tavares still
looks absolutely incredible to me the most concerning part of this roster far and away
is Austin Matthews yeah it's it's I know it's not talent so it must be something else it's getting
towards I hope he's hurt territory because this can't just be what he is holy shit now he does
have eight points five goals yeah but if you only look at that you're not looking at the game well
and he he's not dominating play he probably should have had an assist oh he should have had an assist
on the nice thing that shouldn't have been an unassisted goal well it's because the flames
tried to clear it and it went straight to nice so they they there could have been two assists there
and they they took both of both of them away um so you know you may be like that was a great play
from him at a great moment in the game third period you know you can have a bad first you
can have a bad second you forget about all of it if you have a good third and he had a good third
um like you you see how i'm stacking all these things as small as some of them are on top of
each other and it's leading to a little positive pyramid up at the top yeah which i think is fair
yeah yeah and listen they can undo that entire thing tonight they they could or they can keep
building now the leafs are always ass on the second half of the back-to-back when they're
playing the blue jackets that is a guarantee usually what we would call a scheduled loss
not on a tuesday no well it's wednesday i know that's what i'm saying there's something about
i would love to know the leafs record against the blue jackets on a tuesday because i'm pretty sure
it's oh and 500 well it's bad it's bad and i do think like this is the thing i want to i started
here i want to i keep saying this the talent is there team has the talent need to love to see what
this lineup looks like with scott lotten back in it because that seems to be the thing that
throws everything off so i was thinking about that someone yesterday so i've been trying to
put into words what's concerning about matthew's play because i don't know if he's playing bad
but he's definitely not playing good and they're like when did he turn into a defensive 2c
and i'm like that's it because the defensive 2c is not bad there's a lot of teams in this league
that could use a defensive 2c right now he makes 13.25 million dollars and when lawton comes back
does that take enough defensive load off of austin that he's able to take on different
to sign nicholas was got to learn how to play how to win a face-off he is really bad and that
really hampers them it's concerned like it's going to put them on the wing so i think a lot of
assumptions they made before the season were proven wrong and it's put them on their back foot
and they have a winning record despite that i believe five four and one i think they're i don't
know five four like your record just doesn't matter this early no five four and one there you
go um wa is a big piece of that puzzle lawton is is i had no idea how big of a piece of the puzzle
he was um and when they get him back i want to see austin at his best i like to see austin at
his best before he gets back you shouldn't be depending on your 4c for one of the biggest stars
in this this guy is going to captain team usa at the olympics what do you mean we're waiting for
scott lawton to get back that's what i'm like holy shit that's what i'm trying to say it's like
Now the Leafs have had a so-so start
But they are still third in the Atlantic
Which is basically outside of the Montreal Canadiens
And Detroit Red Wings
Behind Montreal and Detroit
As we all thought it would
Yeah for sure dude definitely
Like
Listen
Good result
Lots of good to build on
Would it shock you
To learn that
Wa has a 52% faceoff percentage
So why don't they trust him in the defensive zone with it then?
I don't know.
It would shock me because his career average is like 45%.
Yeah, it's 52% this year.
That is phenomenal.
John Tavares is 58%.
Matthews is 59%.
That's crazy.
Domi's 47%.
And they still play him at center.
Stop doing that.
Domi's 47%.
What's Lorenz?
I know he played center for a couple of games.
Lorenz has won six draws, lost eight.
That's 42.9%.
There you go.
William Nylander, 47%.
Hey.
With his eight wins and nine losses.
Man, they should try him at center.
Nick Robertson, 0 for 1.
0 for 1.
Hey, okay, have you guys noticed
they're putting Nick Robertson out there
for some penalty kills?
Yes.
And I thought, I was like, listen,
if you're going to do it,
do it against a team that can't generate offense.
I love that.
And they do it at the very end.
But I like that for Nick.
Craig Berube is trying to find him
time and things to do.
he's not desperate to keep him in the line he's giving him tasks yeah i'm gonna give you a chore
like a little kid first of all the team is not good enough for them to stop experimenting oh yeah
right yeah last year oh man it's hard to find robertson ice time i don't think it's hard this
year um there's ice time available you know yeah yeah i would like to see them release sammy play
at one point just to see what's there um but like yeah good give them side quests give like the the
game winning goal last night was scored with a line of domi tavaris knives on the ice whoever
tavaris plays with plays well he's secret sauce right now man jt austin man captain yo they should
make Tavares captain no like you know pair pair him up with Austin get him going he's they they
put Willie with Austin to try to get Austin going it doesn't work they put him back with Tavares
they immediately score yeah that that line whoever's on it dude Michelli had a great play
last night that led to a goal uh it was the first one um whatever that line touches turns to gold
and it's really holding the whole operation together i know adam wants to uh get into
stallers but just on the try to get into that for the line blender stuff how do you guys feel
about that because i don't mind it because i know like craig he'll try the willie thing next to
austin then immediately by like third period it's gone or next game it's gone and then everybody's
kind of cycling in do you like that he's trying a whole bunch of stuff or would you rather that
he gives things extended runs and they get time to try it out i would mind it a lot more if any
line proved they were worth keeping together um so no keep doing it yeah i kind of i like it i
think it's keeping people on their toes like on the ice and that hey at any moment like knives
you can be demoted to the second line even though it's not really demotion whatever but it's good
and if i'm the head coach who's annoyed with my players uh lack of reception to my message so far
if you're listening to me it shouldn't matter who you're playing with if you stick to the system
that i've taught you that we've gone over that we went over this morning at morning skate you'll be
okay now anthony stillers has been ho-hum uh i would kill for ho-hum since the kraken game
is he tired is he hurt or is he shook because it ain't good he hasn't been this bad in three years
no right like 925 with florida 926 last year with toronto um what is it seven straight games
with a safe percentage under 900 eight boy so the leafs are they are hemorrhaging chances
and like early in the season he was giving them performances that they just frankly didn't deserve
the rangers game in particular like holy holy hell um that uh that second one you guys are
a little off on that it's four oh drew drew fed us the wrong stat then attaboy drew that was true
yeah but i i trust drew stats if i can't trust drew stats come on crap look everything dollars
was 897 last night 833 against buffalo 882 against new jersey and then 857 against seattle
and the game before that's the 966 against new york ah oh that maybe it's the leafs like maybe
it doesn't matter uh it's not that um you would expect there to be a noticeable chasm between him
and primo and there hasn't been now part of that is primo's been better than i thought honestly
um but uh yeah he signed this big extension and the reason he was given it is because he's been
so good um so that's pretty concerning now a goalie a good goalie an elite goalie will cover
up a lot of flaws and maybe that's what he's been doing this whole time but boy it's a lot more
pronounced when the puck actually goes in and like willie when when they lost three straight
games last year year before don't remember and he goes three games what's the big deal i was like
i'm gonna lose my mind if you don't absolutely turn into the tasmanian devil
after saying that because if you lose a fourth straight yeah i'm gonna light my own hair on fire
and they win three straight and then he goes yeah what's the big deal that was funny
oh third shit man awesome that is how you back your shit up
stallers valid as his criticisms were has not backed it up at all and that's a concern right
now yeah um jess i know you do you look at the game specifically though and kind of excuse it
away because they got run by new jersey you know new jersey's better team yes the seattle game that
was the game where it's ugly new jersey i was angry at the whole team i don't i don't just put
that on stallers last night how many do you want one back one maybe the the second goal there where
don't gets beat and then the buffalo game is that on stallers like do we remember any ugly ones uh
well the one that they won was primo yeah off the top of my head i can't right now but so i don't
know it might just be a little four game blip where there's maybe a couple he wants back but
i don't know if it's panic yeah and i'm not panicking i just think he's not been great
like two apparently underratedly big jenga pieces got pulled out on the leafs at the beginning of
the year in lawton is obviously a huge part of their defensive structure and uh stallers is
supposed to be in a tandem with wall yeah and who's back who's back but it hasn't played yet
neither of those people have played a game right right and they still have a winning record like
i think the fact that they've played the way they've played and they still have a winning
record and there's reason to believe that help is on the way it's actually pretty encouraging
it bodes well and if they win tonight i believe they'll match the exact same record that they
ended last october with right which is genuinely very very funny yeah which is insane and like
the philly game on saturday that's been kind of earmarked as a lot in return game
so keep your eye out for that finally we will see the toronto maple leafs in their purest form
i am so saturday and that game is very likely not going to be moved is potentially game seven
of the world series oh yeah yeah i am potentially going to stream the most useless game in toronto
maple leaf history that starts in a probably an hour all right before game seven of the world
we can figure something out maybe i don't know yeah i'm not worried about it yeah i'm not worried
about it i'm doing the whole game in a jay's uniform yeah did you want to show this goal
the the domey the sure yeah i don't know if you want yeah this is the one that drove me nuts man
and this is not a goal he lets in last year i like tsn's breakdown of this because like domey
is weak on this fair farabee beats him too easily carlo does nothing nothing like i know you're the
you're the safety valve there but like this just going straight through stallers and farabee hadn't
scored in what was it since last year 29 games or something that's some crazy number it's horrible
which problem in particular uh do you hate about it adam uh i think it was the saw because farabee
doesn't even really hit stallers too right it's not like he knocks dollars so anthony's got listen
yeah he beat domi and carlos trying to i guess cover off a phantom guy he could pass to um just
your pads got to be down dude like i i didn't even try to shoot it up he didn't try to extend
stallers across the net and spread them out he just went i'm jamming this home and stallers it
just went under him most goals are a team effort and i like i hate the flyby on domi but like
carlo benoit's got the the other attacker benoit has lomberg hit him this could have been if if
this guy was a different guy and he's just not if carlo was another person he could have sent
farabee to neptune or for god's sake give him a you know on tsn they're like i think it was
jeff o'neill he's like give him a cross check or something yeah or what if he just goes like this
give him anything sticks his stick out and just puts it in the way of the puck i'm holding out
as a bat right now just moves his arm and puts a stick there in between the puck and stallers
it probably isn't just a tap in between stallers legs it shouldn't have been a shot
no but the fact that it was like it it became a shot and it was definitely one that should have
been stopped you know the there was a goal primo let in against the sabers where it's like yeah
you were probably screened but like put your pad down yeah and that's sort of how i look at this
with stolars and i never thought i would have the same criticism for both those people yeah
anyway like we're going through it like this is the thing i keep saying don't people are like
they're they're not as good without no do not let these guys off the hook these guys are extremely
talented and can do great stuff it's it's because of that that i get frustrated but it is october
and uh plenty of teams have a bad october and make the stanley cup finals hello edmonton two
years they're not even having a bad october i know they're having a mediocre the bar but that's
my fucking bar by the way yeah i want them to win i don't want this is a good spot like enough
this is a having high expectations uh usually doesn't happen for teams that stink no right
we have high expectations was anyone else there when they won the division last year
like yeah i know you're different i know you're different you won the damn division last year
the bar is up here and you know some people might be listening to this and like oh you sound kind
of negative you know because they won last night just be happy they won but there's going to be an
equal amount of people who are like you're not going hard enough on these guys because they
barely eked out a win against the flames i'm trying to be in the middle and going they did
some bad things they did some good things ultimately the good things were and that's
why greater than the bad and that's why they won that's why i'm yay about it yeah because it's like
it doesn't matter you can only play who you're playing uh and hey they won a game and uh they
outshot and dominated their opponent and that's what we're asking for and they did it two points
in regulation yep that's fantastic you're not gonna leave that and be upset the flames only
got two goals i love that ask the flames how they feel oh you know we almost beat the leafs
you got zero points yeah in a game that was tied with two minutes to go in a play in a play by the
way where the leafs ran into each other three stooges style almost leading to an odd man rush
the other way and somehow five seconds later it's in the back of your net yep like you you
what what do they come away with what what do the flames come away with feeling about this game
yeah yes what do they come away with we we kept it close yeah no you got dominated for most of
the game and you lost you didn't get a point yep this is the atlantic division standings from
october 29th 2024 the toronto maple leafs after 10 games were 5 4 and 1 today on october 29th
2025 the toronto maple leafs after 10 games are 5 4 and 1 goal differential of zero last year
yeah last year what is it now i want i want to see exactly how close they are so 32 goals for
32 goals against goal differential of zero and this year got after 10 games very 35 goals for
36 goals against minus one they're one goal off of just being the exact same team they are
outrageously similar so i would say that that's so funny partner leaving means that currently
if the numbers are to be believed uh no change they've saved 11 million dollars and have the
exact same uh october that's crazy man go figure i know i know vegas is unreal uh that they're not
the same team i don't know if you notice so like i don't i always thought that was gonna be a fine
fit yeah um let's focus on the leafs here they've done a lot of things i hate they have and that's
why i've yelled and screamed but i'm telling you i like what i've seen over the last three games
okay i haven't even won all great that's great they haven't even won all the nhl schedulers
need to fix the leaf stupid schedule why did they have eight of ten home games they start
there's some sort of again for that and i don't know what it is it's really stupid they like to
pack the american teams with road games because uh to avoid football you know on football nights
why don't the leaf simply say no so the the canadian teams have more home games in the fall
uh it's ridiculous scheduling i get the impression saying no to nhl head office about anything leads
to bad things hey by the way there's a big scratch on your face where did you get that from drew asked
me if it was barbecue sauce what happened to you um uh leo accidentally uh here i'll tell i'll tell
the full story with the great reveal so we go to the farm as a family great activity in the fall
leo falls asleep on the way there which you know as a dad can be disastrous on the way there on
the way there that's a problem oh it's a problem grouchy pants so he was grouchy pants so there
were some goats and i'm like i'm gonna take him to the goats but i can't i would never allow that
in his household no we don't allow grouchiness here no we we don't stand for that kind of
nonsense so carrie leo over to the goats the goats goat at him and he was like oh cool goats i'm five
and that cheered him up a bit we got called over hey we need you over here i go oh okay he goes
daddy up you know because five-year-olds are just toddlers pretending like when the when they
are weakened a little bit they're just they're just they just revert back so you go okay and
as i go to pick him up he goes to reach his arms around my neck and his thumb just comes across my
face and scrapes me ah hard enough that it draws blood we were getting called over because we were
at the farm for our family christmas photos oh no cool all right so does it have it on it or did
you get it oh of course why don't you photoshop it out or well yeah i know the photographer's
like yeah i saw it as soon as you uh as soon as you got here i got you don't worry oh that's nice
that's good so i mean she's probably gonna have to photoshop like just an ocean of boogers on
isla's face it'll just be it'll be like normal photos and then it'll be like ai steve you know
those aipos yeah yeah with all the perfect teeth i'm trying to get myself six fingers like a mr
beast thumbnail yeah yeah i put 10 people in a shark tank for 10 million dollars yeah yeah and
then later that same night leo made an appearance on the stream uh twice for that yeah that's that's
right he was singing uh cats in the cradle it's blue and the man um yeah because daddy wouldn't
play with him because i was working something to be old and i thought i was being a good dad
because i'm like here leo stand over here because i don't want your face on camera only to watch the
footage back and see that it's very clearly on camera because my screen is not the same as yours
no he was fully on on stream what i saw i'm like oh okay good he's just off frame fully on frame
you know it's really hard with all the sports happening right now to have a healthy diet
because you're you know you're you're we got the world series the nba started nfl's already on nhl
is on and you know i don't like specifically jesse doing his world series streams and that
sort of thing for seven hours how do you get your greens jesse ag1 makes it easy because they got

Hey, we've got two massive contract extensions in the last 24 hours with some of the best young talent in the league.
Thomas Harley and the Dallas Stars finalizing an eight-year $10.59 million contract.
Again, the reason we're seeing a lot of these
is this is the last time that you're going to be able to do eight-year deals.
And then this morning, Logan Cooley, eight years, $10 million per.
He got $80 million this morning.
And what I thought you'd find interesting are the Mammoth's commitments.
John, I'm going to pronounce your name wrong.
John Mattis from The Score said Mammoth's key commitments,
Cooley $10 million through $33.34, Sergachev $8.5 million through $30.31,
but turkish 7.7 through 29 30 keller 7.15 through 27 28 that's insane uh genther 7.14 through 32
33 extremely good vomelka 4.75 through 29 30 and i know you've got a big crush on pretty good
and always have man um that is a i mean they are an exciting we've talked about them they're a wagon
exciting team i am broken and damaged my first thought was lane hudson shouldn't have signed
that contract um like but they now harley is older harley they're buying more ufa well i'm
looking at cooley because the big argument for for hudson is well you're buying more rfa years
right um it aren't him and cooley like the same age i i don't know maybe a year's difference
probably yeah he's 21 logan cooley so yeah yeah um geez that is news man it's still yeah yeah
He's doing an incredible job in Montreal,
and that's why they are where they are in the standings.
But Utah, I had them as a playoff bubble team.
I was not familiar with your game.
Nick Schmaltz's deal is going to be interesting.
He's leading the league in points right now on the last contract.
Yeah, maybe don't negotiate with him right now.
Maybe just wait until he cools off.
I mean, what, is he going to be in the Art Ross race forever?
Clip this one. I don't know.
well what what is i would love to know the highest nick schmaltz has ever finished
in league scoring was it in the top 50 i don't know about that but i can tell you that his
highest points ever were last year at 63 which is pretty good yeah that's usually not enough for
the art ross yeah that's true 17 points in 11 games he had a point last night yeah the guy
who wins the ross usually has that by like new year's eve yeah like yeah that is uh that's crazy
that is crazy man um love what they're doing it's the uniforms it has to be it's they have a name
now so they're allowed to win you imagine and now your 2025 stanley cup champions hockey club
the uh thomas harley deal is exceptional like and if you don't watch a lot of dallas stars games
that's totally understandable you can't watch all 32 teams you watch the four nation faceoff
But if you watch Four Nations, he came in and I was almost grateful there was an injury.
He was so good.
Oh, my gosh.
I was like, man, he should have been on the team from the beginning.
And he will be on the Olympic team and he will be great.
This guy is like once Kale McCarr decides to stop winning Norris is I think Thomas Harley's next man up.
It's just hard with Kale in the league.
This generation of defensemen is going to be one of those generations stuck behind like two elite guys.
like because in any year that kale doesn't win it quinn will yeah yeah but quinn's hurt
that's true it's it's one of those uh uh you know i sort of discovered this while writing
the book uh last summer like there are some guys you go why are they in the hall of fame
why are they regarded with such uh why are they revered the way they are they haven't won anything
And then you look at who won during their tenure and what are you supposed to do?
Like there were probably more than three or four hall of fame worthy goalies during the
nineties, but they were all playing behind Brodeur, Waugh, Hasek, and Belfort.
Yeah.
Belfort is a hall of famer and like barely believe barely belongs in the conversation
of those three.
right so harley is an elite defender but there's just this other tier that kale mccarr's in kale
and quinn belong in yeah it's uh it's crazy now jess when you look at the the the long value deals
on stuff like this i mean obviously there's no downside uh except maybe to the players when they
get to their late 20s and like salary caps hovering around 150 million dollars but um is
Is there a bar set now?
Like, Lane Hudson signed what he signed for.
I think Logan Cooley's deal says that Lane probably could have held out for more, right?
Yeah, 100%.
My question is like...
Yes and no.
Yes and no.
What about Shane Pinto in Ottawa?
That deal needs to happen.
I'm not saying Shane Pinto is Logan Cooley.
Didn't he sign it?
No.
No, there was an offer on the table, but I don't think he's...
And that's still ongoing.
and i know shane pinto is again i know he's not i don't think he's gonna be a 90 100 point guy
but he's having a very good start it's very very good uh his career high is 37 points so i think
that's uh you know that was last year right yeah 70 games last year the previous year he was
suspended really oh i thought last year he was suspended 23 24 he played 41 games whoops yeah
yeah yeah i'm curious about what a guy like that would get i think we need to rethink these contract
amounts and you need to start looking more at the percentage of the cap because i know a lot of
people look at that logan cooley deal and the double digits thing is a eye popper you're saying
how is he getting 10 million dollars and pierre lebrun i think in his tweet that breaking the news
mentioned that it's the third highest contract ever coming out of an entry-level deal yep that's
insane you think about all the people who've come out of entry level deals the greatest that we've
all had uh in this league over the last like 10 years and this is the third highest contract but
the percentage of cap that he's making is like matt barzal money yeah what matt barzal signed
at the percentage of the cap at that time when the cap was there that's not a bad name you know
so yeah i we need a so whatever number we're giving out here for shane pinto it's got to be
relative to what $121 million in the cap is going to be
if he signs an eight-year deal
and he's still around at that number.
And I wonder, is a second-line center,
because that's what he is,
if a second-line center, at least right now,
he could be a first-line center,
but I compare him to other first-line centers.
I'm like, I don't think he's Matthews or Suzuki
or McKinnon or Crosby.
If you're looking at a number two guy,
what is that worth?
It used to be, when we started the show,
number two centers were worth four to five million max now they're worth eight to ten well it became
now right now unless you are the toronto maple leafs and then our second line center is still
worth 4.5 million dollars we made a prepayment on that take that anyway we gotta brag when the
contract stuff yeah good for us yeah it has never gone good no you're right so i'm trying to think
of guys who were that important to their team at a similar age so like the name i came up with was
cadre which that's not applicable but because of the age thing uh ufa barzal is a good name
you know who's ironically kind of a interesting name in this conversation dylan cousins and the
deal he signed in buffalo which is now in ottawa yeah because you're like oh maybe he'll be a number
one center one day i'm like who's their number one center oh it's cousins dylan cousins some nights
um there's stutzela so okay here's what was stutzela's percentage of contract
or percentage of cap when he signed the deal uh you gotta give me 40 seconds okay because
i think about that and you might roll your eyes and go well shane pinto is not tim stutzela well
doesn't have to be i'd be curious to know what tim stutzla was when he signed the deal
because i remember when he signed that going this is going to be the best contract in the nhl
and he hasn't he hasn't blossomed into what i thought he would he's still very very good
but he's he's i thought he was going to be dominant now he's still only 23 which he forced
tim stutzla's 20 and by the way the percentage of cap at the time because the cap was 83 million
dollars is he makes 8.35 so it's about 10 it was 10 exactly 10 so for pinto that strikes me as high
yeah yeah oh yeah that's definitely high the logan cooley contract comparison to that um
like you said the tim stutzla deal was signed on uh september 2022 so that means at the time
stutzla had put up 90 actually no he hadn't had his 90 point season 58 points in 79 games and then
that season he puts up 90 points and he's coming out of his entry level deal which pinto is not
pinto's on his second deal this would be a second deal yeah after the the one he's on is the one out
of the entry i 10 isn't i don't think it's as far off as you think it's not it's not like what is
what about like 8.25 percent not million yeah something like that'll work that'll be less than
10 um and the the matt barzell comparison um i saw that online it wasn't i didn't come up with
that one but that one's it's a little off too because that's 10.9 of the cap man's deal that
he signed his 9.15 million dollar extension and then the logan cooley extension is only 9.62
of the cap that 10 million dollars is so little on this new high cap environment when that doesn't
start till next year on the higher cap so we got to think um uh back to tim stutzla that deal is
going to be in the nine percent of the cap area which is still a substantial amount but it's it's
going to be a good thing and it's it's really good i think it's going to be worth it yeah yeah
but he's going to come in under logan cooley i think we all think that right oh yeah double
digits i would think so so pinto pinto yeah if you yell at that and you're like oh my god sorry
i said stutzla i mean pinto um if you look at that and you're like oh my god eight million
a lot for Pinto, that's actually a reasonable amount. That's going to be the old $5 million
contract. But on the sense, I said Shane Pinto is a second line center. The Sens are in a glorious
spot where they can put a second line caliber center at third line, right? That's a compliment
to them. You still have to pay the price though. If you're going to put money anywhere, probably
a good idea to put it up the middle. Are you cool with what they're paying Cousins, what they're
paying Stutzla, and then what they're paying Pinto? Because Pinto is probably going to come
in somewhere what Stutzla is currently making, right?
If Pinto made $8 million, right?
And that would be...
That would probably be a victory, Ana.
What would that be?
7% of the cap next year?
In and around there, I think.
Because that seems to be fair.
Cooley's, his new deal is coming out of his entry level.
Pinto, you're buying UFA years.
Like, again, you keep going,
well, no, he's not as good as those players.
But because of...
Yes, because of what you're buying,
you bring the number up a bit.
But he might make what Stitzel makes.
Kevin Adams is the dumbest GM in the world.
How is Cousins over there?
Just hanging out.
$7.1 million.
To a divisional rival.
To a divisional rival.
What is happening in Buffalo?
By the way, they're still good.
They're having a good start, I think.
Tage looks amazing.
Oh, the Sabres?
Yeah.
Just awful trade, though.
Imagine how much better they'd look.
It doesn't make the trade any better.
If you just had this perfectly good player on a perfectly reasonable deal.
that number that Dylan Cousins is making
7.1 million dollars for the next four
seasons that's just going to age so
well for Ottawa thanks a lot
thanks a lot and like
at the time that deal
was made
the Atlantic division was in like
two halves it's here are the teams that are
going to be in the playoffs every year
and here's the next
crop that is just waiting
for their turn it was Montreal
it was Ottawa it's Detroit
it's Buffalo
and buffalo decided to give dylan cousins to one of the teams they were like not just a
rival like one of the teams you were directly competing with for the future of the atlantic
division man and then they're like we don't even need to keep bernard docker yeah yeah we'll just
we're just trying to lose them and then josh norris is never gonna play for us so
awesome we got nothing also here's a pit oh so yeah oh my god um but ottawa i think it's an
interesting question adam to do you want to line up that much money down the middle because i think
you do yeah if you're if everybody's at eight million and under i think you're laughing you
can you could probably sign another 10 million dollar center right you don't have to do them
one two three you can do like cousins pinto stutzel on the wing sure something like that
yeah yeah um i i actually love that case you're just good listen i'm telling you you know the
one thing that that ottawa has and i know they've had an so-so start they're not thrilled with it
i know that they were not thrilled with last night's game but i do think they're well situated
for the future and they have what a team like montreal is dying for i know montreal has been
great but like they need they need more experience down the middle they need a legit already
established second line center Ottawa's got two of them there's I think that's I think that's a
good spot to be in and as Toronto Maple Leaf fans you know how many years did we go man yeah
Matthews Tavares and uh right after Kadri yeah Kerfoot oh man oh that Ryan O'Reilly moment oh
sweet sweet moment of Ryan O'Reilly how did you lose in five I know oh how did you have that and
losing because they were soft as baby shit that's why oh my god um no we should have fought we
should have fought tooth and nail to preserve that we should have the reason the leafs aren't good
now is because they didn't preserve a team that wasn't worth preserving that is why they're
struggling right now yeah anyway enough about the leafs um yeah no sends are in good shape
uh their season is going terribly and no no one wants to rely on this excuse but like if any team
can it's ottawa like dude they lost brady kachuk yeah and whoa look at florida but well you're not
florida are you like it's a little different brady kachuk is the heart and soul of that team
and it hurts a lot to not have ottawa's like we got to play nick cousins huge minutes because
brady kachuk's out yeah not a recipe for success it's not the same yeah it's not the same i'm i'm
uh i'm excited for the mammoth i think it's going to be really really cool steve i want you to touch
me done how does it feel awesome awesome it's the t-shirt isn't it yes can confirm right had to do a
little circle there it's a true classic oh you know because i if you do say so yourself oh you
mean the brand the brand people vote with their dollars true classic has sold over 25 million
shirts to more than five million customers and racked up over two hundred thousand dollar
sure two hundred thousand dollar two hundred thousand five star reviews money there anyway
the brand isn't just you know the fabric they want you to have a tailored look and the problem
with menswear is that it's either made for somebody who is ultra slim or they make the
shirt like it's a lampshade and it flares out at the bottom and you're sort of walking around and
The wind gets up under it and you're like, why is this like this?
Yes.
It is either the shirt is essentially a cloth condom or a tent.
Yes.
Yes.
And that's the thing.
They've got the tailoring where you want it with True Classic.
No bunching, no stiff fabric, no BS, just clean, effortless fits that work for real life.
True Classic is built for comfort, but it's built to last and built to give back as well.
You can find them at Amazon, Target, Costco, Sam's Club, or head to trueclassic.com slash dangle to try them out for yourself.
That is trueclassic.com slash dangle.
Try it out for yourself.
Now, one of the things that happened last night is the Rangers playing the Canucks, which is always interesting because of the JT Miller, Elias Patterson stuff.
And what I thought was interesting is when they talked to the players before the game, Patterson was like, so how do you feel about, you know, going up against JT Miller?
And he's like, we've played each other before.
Which is stomped off.
it's true though and and they asked jt miller about the canucks and he's like a lot of great
memories a lot of like you could tell one guy like both guys are under it right now yeah they
are under the microscope they are under the gun in their respective situations and neither is
thriving neither is thriving but i did feel like there was a far more mature answer from jt miller
than there was from Pedersen being snappy.
And I think he's probably just annoyed
generally at life right now
because he's not playing the way he wants to play.
I understand that.
I get that.
But the Rangers beating the Canucks last night,
again, it was the frozen frenzy.
I didn't know the frozen frenzy was happening
until two days ago
because there was no advertising in Canada for it.
I don't know what it was like in the States.
But I did find,
I thought that there was some intrigue in that game.
And obviously, Conor Garland going down
is a massive loss for the Canucks.
huge he's been playing so well you know they've already lost heatle yeah garland's on my fantasy
team so i'm really sad about that right but beyond that you know not scoring a goal against
the listless new york rangers really sucks for the canucks i think yeah it's one game it's october
but we gotta we gotta go off what we have pedersen's just cut huh i don't know how long
does a star making star money need to play like this for you to just be like it's over by because
he's been playing like this since the extension was signed so that's up like spring two years ago
yeah if he gets to march and he's still playing this way it will be two years of non-dominance
from alias like okay last season he was hurt like is he still hurt how like he wasn't hurt enough
to not play in the foreign nations i assume he won't be hurt enough to play in the olympics
yep right so he's gonna play in the olympics if he's surely he's on team sweden right um
at some point like like i know it was a it was a huffy answer and i understand the energy of
the huffy answer they already played against each other what's the big deal man you're in a bad mood
a lot for a guy who makes that much you know what i mean at like at some point just as an average
hockey fan don't you look at that and go can you fake it i fake it at work all the time can you
fake it just a little bit and that you can't have that and then back it up with dog shit you got
shut out by the rangers i don't know if you've been paying attention to how the winds have been
blowing in the NHL this season. You got
shut out by the Ranger. Where was the game?
In Vancouver. In Vancouver!
It's a home game, yeah.
Yeah. Was he
in a worse mood after the game?
That might be the only thing that would make me feel better.
Matt, you can't play this video, but I'm going to play the audio
of the Pedersen comment here
about him saying, I played against him last year.
What's your thoughts on facing
JT tonight? I played against him
last year, too.
What about a potentially hard match?
I know that you got a lot of him in the last game.
Do you look forward to playing against a guy of that quality?
McDavid?
Well, tonight, in JT's case.
Yeah, yeah.
No, JT, an unbelievable player.
He plays hard.
And if I get matched up with him tonight,
I'm going to try and be the winning side of it.
How much pride do you take in playing that matchup role,
regardless of who the opponent is?
No, I want the matchup.
I want the hardest.
I think I'm a competitive person.
I always want the toughest challenge out there
because I like to think it brings the best out of me.
yeah eight points in 11 games he does have you make you make a lot more than that like
i like when he just on that when he presented like mcdavid like what was he trying to say
i've played against better players and was he talking about the edmonton game
is the implication anyway sorry he's just being a brat like i just
listen um matthews has eight points in 10 games and five of those are goals and we're giving him
crap because you're not paid good money you're paid elite money you're paid star money and then
you get shut out by the you know these guys are these are softballs these are they're building
you up for a potential feature for after the game where you beat jt miller and his rangers
in vancouver and they write about how you shut him down yeah that's what you're being set up for
and the result was you get shut out on home ice i love the matchup i love the yeah
i don't know i listen he's he doesn't play for the team i cheer for
i and i canucks fans ride for this guy and i totally understand why
boy this has got to be wearing thin this is
you make too much money to be this so what do you do because they're not well you trade jt miller
you fake it till you make it like what do you mean uh if you're peterson you you need to be
he has made it you're paid contracts guaranteed you're paid leader money right whether you wear
a letter or not quinn i know quinn's the captain i get that uh there are other people that lead on
teams uh you play leader money that means you lead in the press you lead in the in on the ice
and you lead in the locker room and you know uh he's the highest paid player on this team by three
million here i think what's quinn's in the eights so or you show up you do the bare minimum you get
patted on the bottom by one of the most struggling teams in the nhl and then you're in a even more
surly mood the next day i meant more so what does patrick alveen and the management that that i
don't know because like well i think one of the trades that caroline is probably happy didn't
happened last year was the Pedersen one. You look at that. They were right there with the Canucks
on Pedersen, and the Canucks were going to hang on to JT Miller. And then they were right there
on Mikko Rantanen, and they ended up pulling the trigger on Mikko Rantanen. And I think
no matter how you view the Mikko Rantanen situation, I happen to think that probably
helped Carolina in the long term with some of the... You'd rather have Mikko, but they're going
to be okay. They did well. I just wanted to see them flip the futures to try to win last year.
Which they can do this year, though. Yes, of course.
I look at this and I go, man, some of the best trades that you make are the ones that never happen.
And that, I don't know, other than Carolina, who believes in this player more than the Canucks do.
So I don't think there's a trade there.
I do think Tulsky's a big fan, but you would have a really hard time getting these older general managers, right?
Because Tulsky's one of the younger, new look, he's in his 50s, younger, new look general managers.
I don't think you're going to get a Kyle Dubas to bite
you know I don't think you're going to get
Eric Tulsky to bite now
Alvin's one of the younger ones I think
Alvin
I don't know that Montreal is biting on that deal
especially with the good vibes that they have going on
maybe you can bring him in and it's a good locker room culture
it doesn't strike me as
an Alvin or sorry Ken Hughes thing
who are you giving up like Laine
like to
I'm trying to think of other struggling guys
making like star money
they need this to work i just has to work it's too long of a contract it's till 2032
yeah it's not even close to being anywhere done and it's a full no movement clause
elias petterson controls where he wants to play well yeah he looks like he loves it there
you could see why he would fight tooth and nail to stay a canuck
he doesn't even seem like he doesn't look like he is enjoying himself is all i'm saying
i actually think i think you might have the wrong scent there with carolina i think they're still
or would still be super interested in a depreciated asset and i think they think
they can make anything work well and listen in carolina he wouldn't be tasked with scoring a
whole lot like they do play more defensive game i think svechnikov has gone eight or nine games
without a point uh i don't think he has a point yeah like i think he's i think it's like eight
oh and oh or nine oh and oh or something like that last i checked he was zeros across the board
in eight games minus three andrej svechnikov dude he might be the guy going the other way
i think the best solution for everybody involved is making it work in vancouver
yes but uh we're on season three of this conversation
and at some point i think the canucks maybe get tired of the money arson that's going on right
now season two if you want to give him that yeah i'll give him that i'll give him that yeah because
the and they did try to rebuild the second line for him because they had nobody to play yeah the
23 24 season is 34 goals 55 assists this is right on line with what he should be at that's that's
good it's yes that's very good you know and then last year if you blame the injuries you know you
injured you know he had dealing with different stuff and not fully healthy played in 64 games
15 goals 30 assists so now we're in the hey you got to show up and you got to do it here
kind of year and it's three goals five assists attitude probably not the best thing you want
in the media there with that comment but i think vancouver's just gonna sit here and try and find
a way he's always kind of been like that like and again like you're not you don't win games
in front of the microphone but you do win fans yeah it just i don't know it looks worse when
you know you're like oh this is a distraction i am above this you were beneath me and then you
go out there and stink like it's it's not it's not a good look it's a terrible look yeah yeah
terrible look great xgf though thank you stats from money puck they're on the contract like xgfs
don't really count uh for goals on the actual board put it in the like i don't know if you're
a canucks fan put it in the fucking net you know what i mean put it in the net i got one for you
who's got four assists in 11 games for the canucks and that's it yeah quinn valuable person on their
thing it is not quinn quinn's got uh seven points in nine forward or d forward really important part
of what they were trying to build this year it's not besser it's definitely not garland
really important part it's not heetle jake oh de brusque de brusque only has four points but at
least he's got a couple goals who's the other winger that they brought in that they were like
we need to have a big season okay evander kane oh 11 games 14 penalty minutes four assists and a
minus four only 14 uh only 14 and with evander you don't know if that happened all in the same
game or not sometimes it's just like he he's fine and then all of a sudden that's a guy that's a
guy who yes lost his sentiment he needs to be better you need to he need to be scoring if you're
vander kane like it can't be a lot of money and respectfully keifer keifer sherwood with six goals
and 11 games everybody's thrilled about that but i don't think that's gonna last for sherwood i
would have his jersey i love him easily i love him i easily i would have a uh one of their
shitheads i would have him or garland if i was a canucks fan but sure what did you see that clip
yeah of him screaming at supposedly slavkovsky i'll take you out of the olympics that guy's a
psycho i would love to have him on my i love that guy that's a guy i'm like bring him to the
leaves i need psychos he's so op in fantasy he's so ridiculously because he hits at a rate that
like no one else in the league does it scores goals and the only guys who are close to him
are like defensemen yep yeah yeah and he scores and including an overtime god i would i would
love him um i called that from the moment it happened we both did damn it love that guy damn
it uh i think i think it is uh getting late early in vancouver with the uh what is it four losses
now in five games and then their only win is an ot1 against edmonton on sunday that's such a shame
they need to start picking it up here yeah i thought they were good yeah i thought they were
oh man we say that every freaking year man it's crazy they have too much talent to be this mid
yeah yeah yeah they do their goaltending is even going way better than i thought it would
i saw that demco contract and i'm like you mean like current demco and i was wrong and it's still
not enough brant clark has seven points uh so far this year with the los angeles kings 22 years old
this is a guy that is dominating and for an la kings team that we all had major questions about
still do still do he's absolutely dominating his minutes somebody to absolutely look at i just
needed to highlight brant clark oh of course this guy has been unreal scored the game-winning goal
last night um the uh the la kings might sign odd and weird contracts like cory perry who already
has three goals which is okay all right i didn't even know he was back um yeah uh but brant clark
man watch out for this guy he could be he could be in for like a breakout year defensively they had
several young d and it was obvious they weren't going to be able to keep them all
they kept the right one yeah yeah uh now one guy i want to talk about a lot and i and i'm
going to start talking this guy i'm going to bring this guy up a lot the predators have not
had a good start and steven stamkos has two points in 11 games one goal one and assist
minus five oh what point are we talking like okay this player is not working out here we must
we're gonna have to make a move it's a it's year two of a four-year deal
no like there's no move to be made for stamkos like who's taking that you don't give him a shot
i think he's probably retiring before he gets traded habs habs for for lining oh there you go
stamkos for lining and put stamkos at center hell yeah yeah there you go now we're cooking with gas
right you can play center put that in every blog quote me steve dangle suggests crazy trade for
habs no not even it's not going to be steve dangle suggests local podcast which is what it is it's
local podcaster reports ah that's what it's going to be how the ai guys do it also it's not going to
be local it's going to be dirty toronto piece of shit reports because i think baseless rumor that
i choose to believe because i like it uh the i think the nashville predators are bad and poorly
constructed and uh i think they're gonna have to start to make some moves here who wants that
every team calling barry trot you don't want you don't want steven stamkos uh what steven
stamkos currently is no stamkos at this point in his career is a luxury for a good team
that's fair the preds are not a good team he needs to be an integral part and it's too heavy of a
lift um i think he could go somewhere and smash in a ton of goals he had 27 last year yeah exactly
like on a disastrous hockey team he can still score steven stamkos man he's gonna go somewhere
if he's traded set up shop in the steven stamko spot on the power play and score a bajillion goals
this is why i immediately suggest to montreal tie a rocket to line a and buy a rocket i mean
very fancy draft pick and get it done could montreal conceivably get crosby and stamkos
in the same trade and no it's the same year i just don't want that contract like if it's brutal
if there's a year left give me stamkos if there's maybe two years left and you retain a little give
me stamkos but with three more years on that this year plus then two more after that at eight
million dollars what about at six that's a lot so barry six is better retain six is better can the
preds retain i don't know if they have any retention slots that's a good point remember
the big criticism with the ekholm deal was the retention the retention but that's up this year
so they couldn't do it they couldn't do it they have to retain two contracts retained right now
colton sissons and matthias echo and both of them expire why did they retain on colton sisson
because you gotta they gotta retain 1.428 million dollars on colton man what are they doing i don't
understand barry trotz's group i don't know what they're trying to do we talk about kevin adams
like he is definitely the worst GM?
Dude, Barry Trotz has had a Hall of Fame career as a coach.
Holy shit.
If his name isn't Barry Trotz,
he's not the GM of the Predators anymore.
No.
They retained on Colton Sissons
and sent him to the Golden Knights
in that Jeremy Lozon, Nick Haig deal.
Oh, because you have to retain on everyone
with the Golden Knights.
yeah barry trot said hey i'll do you a favor why does every league pick one or two teams
to just help it like for everything and the golden knights were in that cap trouble because
they need to dump nick haig right they want to get rid of that 5.5 and they take back the
2 million of lozanne and then the cap hit of colton sissons now is only 1.4 because the
national predators retain 1.4 and they he just did them a huge favor like what the what are you
doing what are you doing oh my god like i i think you're underestimating how tradable he is
i am based on how i was being off the top no no and no but you're thinking about it logically
like yeah but that contract's too much you're not thinking about this from the perspective of
how fleecible the preds are yeah yeah he's gonna be a great montreal canadian it's gonna be awesome
oh i really hope i didn't nail it oh god it might be good that might be great because barry
tross he has a full no move to steven steven stamkos does so um barry tross is gonna look
at and say oh i want to trade him and i'm gonna retain 50 and then montreal is gonna get uh
steven stamkos 50 for a fourth round pick and two years ago he had 40 goals but that's on the
lightning it's different you know it's two years ago and also i think he'd be rejuvenated by the
fact that montreal is such a fun team to play for he's gonna play for a former i'm pretty sure
former lightning teammate who is a legend yeah scam coast reuniting with saint louis i didn't
even think about that oh my god it's kind of great kind of a great fit oh shit four million bucks
oh my well they're not i wouldn't i wouldn't retain half it's barry it's barry barry mites
oh shit oh shit oh no everything you say you wouldn't do barry trotz might do it oh no barry
wood yep barry wood i just please break before the show that's that's all i ask you want the
trade to happen before the show happens you know the uh stonecutter song in the simpsons it's like
who keeps a metric system down we do except it's barry wood
who retains 50 on stamp cows barry wood oh mary wood that's how that's how he operates
is the stonecutter song over pay a five or six d man we would oh dear barry oh no
stamp goes to have yeah yeah no you nailed it steve with shit hey um anything else you guys
wanted to hit story-wise because i would like to go to the press conference here uh we sort of
missed two crazy plays last night you mean the penguins one yeah the too many men on the ice
too many men but even though it wasn't malkin scores in overtime it's waved off because
uh there's a rule where it's not too many men if the goalie is within a certain distance of the
bench um because there was a pending penalty in overtime it's waved off uh after that the flyers
end up winning in overtime so that play that swing in points is going to have huge implications
in the standings potentially
with regard to a potential playoff race
because neither of these teams
have started as bad
as some people thought,
including us,
or the McKenna sweepstakes.
And then there was one in Chicago.
Before you move past the Penguins,
I'll read from NHL.com
the summary on what the actual rule was
and why it was the correct call.
I know a lot of people are mad at it
and everything,
but it's the right move.
So in the first minute of overtime,
Trevor Zegers was called
for a slash behind the flyers net during the delayed penalty malkin came on as the extra
attacker took a pass in the slot and scored seemingly giving the penguins uh the win there
was one problem with his maneuver from a pittsburgh perspective goalkeeper arthur silas wasn't on the
bench yet he wasn't really even close to the bench yet in fact malkin jumped on the ice when silas
was still in his own slot oh malkin scored the goal before slilov even reached the red line
The Flyers, who were on the ice, knew something was up and immediately appealed to the officials for a too-many-men penalty.
They were mostly right, but not completely.
What happened in this situation is covered under Rule 71.1, premature substitution.
I've never heard of this.
You've got to read the rule book.
Never heard of this.
Great read.
Oh, yeah?
Oh, real page-turner, Steve.
I'm sure you'll get right on that.
Bettman, he'll get you to read it.
Can we have him on the show to promote it?
This is Rule 71.1.
When a goalkeeper leaves his goal area and proceeds to his player's bench for the purpose of substituting another player, the skater cannot enter the playing surface before the goalkeeper is within five feet of the bench.
There shall be no penalty to the team making the premature substitution, but the resulting faceoff will take place at the center ice faceoff spot when the play is stopped beyond the center red line.
so in this instance malkin's goal came off the board but the penguins did not incur
a too many men penalty this is why the game continued with a pittsburgh four on three
overtime power play there you go crazy they got it right the refs did the right thing there is a
rule for this in the rule book and if slilovs was within five feet it would have been okay
and if malkin had just waited it would have been okay where is this from nhl.com nhl.com that's
cool thank you yeah hey thank you they're they're doing it they're doing the thing
thank you making it more accessible what i don't understand shout out simple explanation i
understand shout out brian smith who covers the flyers for philadelphia flyers.com slash
at the nhl series of sites well there you go that's thank you for writing that up it's a good
summary of everything that happened stops a lot of confusion i love when people see the thing on
the Twitter. And they're like, that's unfair. And then there's an actual explanation for it.
And all of your outrage is pointless. Let's go.
connecting brands with the moments and fandoms that matter most learn more at accenture.com
slash spotify anything else there was a blackhawks thing but i forget what it was it's crazy
bedard yes was crazy but no there was a some sort of weird rule thing yeah i love a weird rule thing
sorry we just did one so we can leave i'm very distracted by the world series i'm not on my game
One performance that we should mention, along with Bedard's hat trick,
Victor Olofsson had a hat trick last night for the Colorado Avalanche.
Ah, just how we drew it up.
By the way, they doubled up the Canadians pretty harshly.
Eight to four, wasn't it?
Yeah, it was a really good performance there offensively.
No, it wasn't the Canadians.
It was the Devils.
Oh, the Devils.
Yeah, they beat up on the Devils.
I remember being surprised by that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Sorry.
Wait.
I have the Blackhawks thing.
It was sent to me by Drew.
the blackhawks score on an empty net during a delayed penalty but it's waved off because the
puck went off colton doc's stick so it doesn't count man that's so cool okay
can you should we rename this show steve talks to himself
you guys both turn your back so i can formally go fuck myself how about that how about
no i'm just giving you shit i'm just giving you i thought it was me it was neat steve it was
it was jesse look at jesse right now no it's funny i was waiting to just get back to the
victor olivson get to the olivson okay so back to victor olivson played 1431 in the game yeah
had three goals did you know he also tacked on two assists no so in the five points hold on
break it off break it off so in this in this eight four victory over the devils victor olivson
hat trick two assists five points victor olison in this game minus one hell yeah shut your mouth
that was on the power play how much that was on the power play uh the the goals against him
yo you don't like the penalty kill no no like because you don't get a plus minus if you're
scoring oh yeah yeah that's true i just think it's a funny well dude the other night jake
sanderson had three assists and he was a zero in the plus even yeah yeah no but this is five
yeah five points it is a minus one power for 17 417 yeah thank you adam saw me like trying to
fix the lines that's that's a hilarious stuff i just think it's a ridiculous like that's never
gonna happen no like that's so funny what are the freaking odds buddy the abs are so sick
um i i just like i know that they've lost four games in overtime randomly but they're so sick
like this is this is a team that they're gonna win i think they're gonna win the president's
trophy i really do like i think they're not only that i think they're gonna win the cup well just
they're so good they're so good it was five nothing and i blinked and it was five four
and then or was it six four or whatever eight four against the devils devils are good too
to answer your question two both of his assists came on the power play one of his goals came on
the power play and then two of his other goals were even strength if you're the which means he
was scored on even strength three times yeah holy wow minus one what a crate i love early season
games for that jake markstrom by the way has an 830 save percentage this year
so we're not rushing that extension are we is this the jake markstrom fabled off year you know
he's like i got two great years and then i'm gonna have a bad year he is one of the most
fascinating goalies in the league 830 save percentage he's the worst worst puck playing
goalie i've ever seen in my entire life no one's ever told him though pecorino exists uh they're
both such good goalies him and renee do not ever leave don't leave the blue paint you're banned
if we pull you you should say are you sure like he's but it sounds like uh when he's in the net
it's not working no it's not not right now not right they need i mean i i have 17 goals against
in four games 513 goals against average oh i have the the devils as a president's trophy contender
you need saves in order for that to stick that's bad yep yep that's rough hope at every step is
more than just a walk it's a movement held this year at spencer smith park in burlington on
november 1st the event brings the community together to stand against gender-based violence
typically the event has about 400 plus people huge group of boys from the local high school
sports teams and junior hockey uh it includes lunch and event toque and hawthorne uh the band
is going to be there uh one of the things that you know you need to know and these are these
are pretty crazy statistics 2018 since 2018 the number of women killed each year in ontario has
gone up by 68%. In 23-24, 62 women had been killed by an intimate partner in Ontario. That
totals more than one person a week. Intimate partner violence was declared an epidemic in 2023
by 93 municipalities across Canada, including Halton. And that is why we want to support Hope
in every step. Every dollar raised from this supports critical services provided by the
Halton Women's Place, the only women's shelter in the Halton region. Now, go to the website,
it's uh it's it's basically it's right underneath the video or the audio wherever you're seeing it's
in the it's in the description 20 for adults to sign up 10 for youth if you would like to support
but you're not able to attend there is also an online donation page so check it out it's
underneath this video or in the description of your audio podcast frozen frenzy was yesterday
these are all these games we're talking about yesterday um one useless up in canada can't see
it yeah not yeah it's an that's why we didn't see anything yeah but they didn't but even in
america they were like nobody knew too they don't do a good job promoting it terrible i don't think
hockey lends itself to this structure i don't think i i've seen it like i can't say as a hockey
fan if it if it actually is good or nothing but i see the concept i'm like that's kind of cool
but i don't think hockey fans sit down and want to see every team play all the time i think you
want to watch your team well you can only watch i mean i think what they're trying to do is get
hockey fans into other teams right like into other markets in the nfl you are paying attention you
have your teams but you're also paying attention to the other games i think they're trying to do
that the issue i think with it is that um like all the espn guys are like now i get to watch 16
games all at once i don't know a single person who can watch more than one game at one time yeah
and and alan will tell you oh i've got four or five screens set up you're not physically the
average person is not physically able to do that's his job yeah yeah and the the nfl thing i think is
a great point because yeah nfl has this thing on hold in terms of the tv watching audience they're
the biggest product in the world so the nfl has structured stuff so they have their games set up
apart from each other you got thursday everybody tunes in sunday night everybody tunes in monday
night everybody tunes in and those are games whether your team is there or not but they're
marquee events and they're on by themselves and then on sunday afternoon the one o'clock window
there's probably like eight games in there you got red zone maybe you got a four tv box you're
doing that i know i got a couple games going and you can pay attention to a few of them and the
afternoon slot there's maybe like four to six in the 4 p.m window but it's not all 32 teams at one
on a weeknight on a tuesday i don't like that's the thing about the nfl it's on the weekend
i don't think the nhl has the slightest idea what the day in the life of an average hockey fan
is who's this person yeah who's this person you have in your mind that when did the earliest game
start uh six o'clock the leafs one was actually the first that it was supposed to be the second
one but so they don't even start till night no 6 p.m and they run it till 11. who is this person
in their bruce wayne bat cave with with their big morgan freeman screen in front of them
showing like yeah yeah no no bring it up no i want to talk like say your thing i want to talk
about this specifically what who is this person watching all these games losing their mind for
all of them until 1 30 in the morning yeah because the 11 p.m is the last one the west coast games on
a weeknight you'll stay up till three for a world series game for a world series that your team is
playing in who on i don't i just want to know what's the illusion in the least what is the
least important month of the season what is knocking it out of the park for you yeah you
need to see all the games that happen on tuesday end of october like if you do this and i listen
they want to they can't avoid the world series it happens in october they can't avoid the start
of the nba season that happens in november they can't avoid the super bowl that happens in in
february and footballs all the way till then and then you've got the olympics in february as well
but this has to it can't just be here's a bunch of games yeah it has to matter for something
is it is it like there's no rhyme or reason to these matchups too like okay oh we got frozen
frenzy we're gonna see the devils in avalanche i was we're gonna see desperate to see the
to see the predators play on a tuesday like yeah oh man i can't wait to watch the ducks panthers
game right like no no if you're gonna put all the game make it a rivalry game right two teams that
had joel quinnville for an equal amount of time the joel quinnville like you know what man oh i'm
so mind blown by the capitol stars matchup i can't miss it even leafs flames yeah that's not a right
i get cadre coming back it's not a rivalry here is it really should be abs leafs to be florida
yeah you know make if the nhl is so fucking focused on divisional shit right they're so
focused on divisional shit that they will realign the playoffs yeah to make sure you're playing
someone in the division if you're gonna do frozen frenzy first off advertise it yeah second uh make
it matter now i i see flyers and penguins and i'm like that's a game i would good one nailed love
that flames and leafs blue
jacket sabers no lightning
predators I guess Stamkos
stars capitals mammoth
oilers King sharks at least
they're in the same
division or penguins flyers
I mentioned Ducks Panthers
Jets wild Senator's wild
Jets wild Jets wild yeah
Senators Blackhawks
Senators Blackhawks Canucks
Rangers okay I'll give them
the JT Miller thing yeah
Hurricanes Golden Knights
Islanders Bruins blues blues
red wings would have been cool in the 90s uh devil's avalanche and kraken canadians there's
very there's of those games of the 16 there's maybe four or five you can be like yeah there's
some like history or something here i think if you're gonna do this it's got to be interdivisional
it's got to be advertised more it's got to be at a time of year where it matters a little bit more
and you can't be like it's a condensed schedule because of the olympics because how many games
are tonight one one the leafs blue jackets can't miss it i hate it so much it's the worst thing for
hockey fantasy to anybody who plays it knows that this week is so annoying all your guys play on one
day and then tomorrow or today sorry there's one game and there's a like you just seem just empty
and it sucks is there anything to the idea that like it's good for betting like i saw some people
say it's it's good for betting to have they juice parlays and stuff but they but they're not
advertising that that's what nobody's talking about it yeah yeah and the hockey that is what
you were trying to do you you could have hammered that button the hockey betting market isn't as
robust as football and there's other sports like i don't know if that's the direction you want to
be going with your fans and saying okay we want the sports books to be in on this because you
can bet all the goals from all the teams or divisions on the same day and all that stuff but
i don't know if that's driving interest in the sport and football has sunday yeah tuesday yeah
But the games are all day, not in a 6 to 11 p.m.
But that's what I mean.
I don't understand.
Yo, Frozen Frenzy.
How much was the watch that?
Frozen Frenzy for me.
Listen, we've talked about this many times.
NHL teams need to stop.
I know that, for instance, they'll talk about San Jose.
They can't get people in on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
They don't know why, but they don't sell well.
What if, you know, you just fucking bit the bullet and on Thanksgiving in the United States,
not in Canada, you did the Frozen Frenzy then?
and yes there will be football games just just do it anyway pray that you have fans too
like is everybody who watches hockey you're like nope they're also a football fan they will watch
our products the nfl is on what if people are just hockey fans or what if they watch a little
football and a little hockey that day switch it up what if they change the channel when football
on commercial that'd be cool do they have a last button on their remote like come on this is this
is what i'm trying to figure out you pitch this idea i assume with the hope and expectation that
it would work what does it working look like to you i i just don't know who this person is yeah
who is this person this stars fan who's like you know the stars are on but i'm not going to watch
the stars i'm gonna watch 18 games at once with all of my eyeballs yep honey turn on the stars
capitals game yeah and you're in vancouver and you're like i don't want to see my team i want
to see stars capital plus all of the other games at once this this was to me a huge mistake that
sportsnet made at the beginning of their rights deal is they grossly overestimated how many
canadians were gonna be like give me the wild rangers flyers is on stop everything you're doing
yeah and like that's a good matchup yeah it's rangers flyers if you live there but like if
you're in brandon manitoba are you like stop everything here's what i would watch it i'd
watch a game starting at five yeah i'd watch i will i loved watching the leaf starting at six
and then rolling into the jays last night i fucking love that yeah day games in baseball
are such a beauty to just turn on yeah even at work here you know there's a 1 p.m game you throw
it on and it's perfect the nhl refuses to play day games like throw like they i know they do it
on the weekend all the time like that miss she's rocking daytime weekend games they had one in new
jersey on sunday i was watching that yeah just on it was uh devil's avalanche great game um but
no it wasn't devs out i forget who the devils were playing anyways i was listening to ken danico
steve dangle do the broadcast thank you jesse the devils mounted a huge comeback against the
avalanche only to fall short but i thought it showed their heart i think and i was gonna bet
on them for the comeback with the new jersey state lottery because remember anything can happen in
jersey i think because there's such a gate driven league they're scared of that's what it is moving
those times away from the 7 p.m windows where people can get to the games yep but the tv
watching audience would benefit i think greatly if there's more afternoon games like a 5 p.m like
you said and throw it on there because you are a niche sport in comparison to these other leagues
so you need to give people the opportunity when they want to just throw something on that hockey
is available you know and squishing all these games here on one day and then the next day
there's nothing you're not giving the people the opportunity to discover hockey and this isn't the
way to do it i don't think so i would like them just to be more creative than this and not this
doesn't appeal to me i think the idea is good yeah maybe the idea is a little harsh because
i should start with credit for the nhl for trying something new yep they are trying and i will
always give credit to people who try trying is fantastic it's just execution it seems is always
off with their attempts the amazon series is the same thing that was a good effort i applaud their
effort they went with a two season they just do one and abandon it they've run it multiple times
now but the execution isn't all there because we're not getting enough out of these players for
these actual things to matter it hasn't hit like drive to survive because it's not as compelling
you know why it's not as compelling because they won't be as honest exactly i think so nhl needs
to get away from uh stars for these things really yes um go exclusively with guys who are going to
be good for the program that's what drive to survived it in their first season they had no
yes yes um i just want to wrap that up and just say so good for the nhl for the last couple years
it feels like they are trying to be new and fun and creative but i'm not a fan of the executions
Continue to try.
I feel like I'm a little harsh on the idea,
but there just needs to be some pat on the back
for trying and doing new stuff.
I like the idea.
I don't like the execution.
Exactly.
And with that, I think we should wrap the show.
Last thing, that poster that you threw up.
We simply can't.
John Bucciaross tweeted out
that on October 28th, 1996,
first day at ESPN,
October 28th, 2025,
10,592 second day at ESPN,
ESPN, IS, Siri.
Still can't believe it happened.
Still love the job.
Still trying to get better.
Still love being part of a team.
Tonight, I get to watch 16 hockey games.
And then the poster he tweeted out was this poster.
I'll actually pull it up full screen.
Is the poster from last year.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, yeah.
No.
Marchand's still on the Bruins.
Seth Jones is on the damn Blackhawks.
John Tomares is wearing a captain jersey.
So maybe it's not even from last year.
Against Ovechkin.
Against Ovechkin.
they did not play there's like oh that's a
sense jersey I thought those two teams did not play
Goudreau is in the bottom right
Johnny Goudreau is on this poster
and it says October 24th
6 p.m. Eastern
which was what not yesterday
when Frozen Frenzy happened that's from two seasons
ago two seasons so you can't
even get the dude who's hosting
it to tweet out the right poster to promote
I don't know that they made one Jess and listen
John I like John's play
calling I think it's great yeah I'm not
this is not a hit out at john bucci gross but like no buddy like he people were like they tweeted at
him and said hey uh haven't seen anybody advertise this and then he said well here's the poster and
people were like yeah but the point is john we haven't seen anybody advertise this is the wrong
poster i they made this two years ago johnny goudreau's on it i'd love to know who the sponsor
for frozen frenzy was last night and how mad they were that this poster with enterprise on it was
i think for him it's still enterprise okay okay well few few this is this is a little embarrassing
guys uh this is the these are the people who own the rights in the in the united states for hockey
and they're tweeting out posters from two years ago with john tavarez nsc and seth jones on the
blackhawks and brad marsh and on the boston bruins this just can't happen yep can't have like yep i
don't know i like the sport disappointed in it yes uh tsn sorry espn has done very little
to shed their reputation as not giving a damn about hockey there i think the people that are
their care yes i just don't know that corporately that it's big enough for them to care well and
that's a problem then that's bad enough yeah i don't think from what i have heard the nhl is not
thrilled with what they've what they've done with it but the other problem with that is that um
They know that they can't be on anyone else.
The NHL cannot go to somebody else.
They need to be in people's living rooms.
And what's sad about this is if you read the ESPN book,
it's called Those Guys Have All the Fun.
ESPN built its brand with the NHL in the 80s.
The NHL and ESPN were like this.
And then once the lockout happened in 2004,
they had a $100 million contract on the books ready to kick off.
And ESPN said, well, you're not playing this year,
so we're canceling it.
And the NHL is like, cool,
We're going to go to Outdoor Life Network.
And that 20-year walk through the wilderness has set them back so far.
And yet, they're still making great money.
They could be making like double.
And they should be a bigger part of the ESPN schedule.
And the guy who did that is in the Hall of Fame.
Yeah.
Still has his job.
Yep.
All right.
Let's wrap the show.
Don't forget, VIP coming out Friday morning.
If you are brand new to VIP, we're so excited to have you.
A lot of people joining up because they haven't been exposed to it.
And they got a free membership gift to them on the streams.
And you know why they joined?
Because they're all watching your Columbus stream.
That's right.
