second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing

you know i i really have to say i am blown away in the age that we're living in right now
for with many things but the amount of stuff that people think they can get away with on a
microphone the clip we're about to play you if we played this for you in 2016 that's basically
our podcast uh if we if we played that i'm not talking about people i know yes i'm talking about
like people who are in who make millions of dollars and are in positions of authority i'm
blown away by what people think that they can get away with and i am shocked sometimes at the
audacity but you know what sometimes you have to be audacious now the vegas golden knights lost
their appeal uh they went to the nhl the nhl said yeah that's nice we're still finding you
a hundred thousand dollars it's still gonna be sorry finding john tortorella a hundred thousand
we're still going to dock you the second round pick but the rumor is if they're nice about it
and they play within the rules then maybe it gets reduced to the third round pick i think that's
atrocious well gary would look extremely weak um and and that's that's the thing here like he would
look weak as hell and that's why i think he can't do it i think it was frege used the term good
behavior like if they have good good behavior first of all it was multiple infractions the
nhl just won't say what it was also stop talking about them like they're a good ninth grade student
who fell in with a bad crowd john tortorella is a 67 year old man and kelly mccrimmon is a 65 year
old man literally two senior citizens they get the discount at shoppers drug mart yes making these
decisions screw you screw the fine screw your second round pick i also that's ridiculous i
also think every time torts gets rehired it's hilarious it's like yeah well you know i've
learned from my past and i'd like i always does this shit and at a certain point you're like nah
you're not learning this is just what you believe and that's okay just own it now i want to play the
video and it's only the first minute and a half that we got to play i want to play the like the
majority of it because it's only a three minute thing it is only three minutes we'll pause it
when we need to but yeah it's just mccrimmon and tortorella lying through their teeth yeah play
the audio here you can't do the video one second now steve the rule is it can't be 10 seconds and
you cut it off you've gotta this that's the steve day since when are there rules so steve no i'm
the vegas golden knights there are no rules we gotta play the clip no and then we can replay
the clip and you can talk over it we gotta have people here in the class no we gotta have people
here in the club i never do yeah no this is the vegas golden knights rules of listening
Listen to Kelly, 65-year-old
McCrimmon. Talk down
to everybody. Here you go.
Thank you, everyone, for assembling
late in the day.
A couple of items before
we begin. We were today
in New York where we had
a hearing with the National Hockey League
regarding the events following
Game 6. We missed a great opportunity
that night
to connect with our fans and
share with them
a victory a playoff series i've always felt in a playoff series when you win a series you galvanize
the bond with your fan base we missed uh that opportunity by not having uh john available to
do post game that's on john uh for uh failing to do that that's on me as a general manager of the
hockey club uh that's not at the feet of our comms people who made other arrangements with each of
to accommodate tight quarters in and around our dressing room post-game.
It's been way longer than 10 seconds.
No.
Then to say we were wrong and to assure you that it will not happen again.
The league has spoke on the matter.
We have spoken on the matter.
Neither John or I will be taking any questions on this.
Now.
Oh, so Adam gets to pause it.
Yeah.
Because Adam's jerking off.
but adam gets to say what he wants to say on this show oh yeah my name is adam vegas golden
knights wild and i get to just make the freaking rules i do and here's what i want to say now there
are there are 20 seconds left in this clip that i do want to play that are the key chunky parts
but let's i just want to point out we will not be taking questions on this matter cowards you
go up on a podium say your fucking speech that you written down you wrote down and then you
won't take questions from the reporters because you're a fucking coward yeah it's crazy man because
they're gonna ask you pointed questions that are gonna force you to answer some hard questions and
reveal some things that aren't in your written statement also so jesse we're not showing the
footage because i assume we can't yeah tell us tell them what you were upset about okay what
john tortorella who i'm gonna remind you again is a 67 year old man is sitting at the podium
like a sulky sullen child he's also laughing during the we missed an opportunity to connect
with yeah and audibly if you could play the sigh again you actual child he's a child a 67 year old
child that's a great opportunity uh that night to connect with our fans and share uh with them
a victory a playoff shut the fuck up john you grow old you don't grow up there are rudels but hey
steve he likes dogs oh is that not the bare minimum of being a human being it'd be a bigger
story if he didn't honestly i trust people who don't like dogs what the what are we doing what
are we doing like listen people i've i've said this before i'll say it again as it goes with
john totorella people are complicated and people are nuanced he's not a raving lunatic monster no
who just every time you miss a defensive assignment he grabs you by the collar
he's just a pissy child he's what he's a pissy child he was a pissy child in philadelphia that's
why he got fired yeah ask flyers fans torts torts was a pissy child when he got fired
and let's just call it like okay he got fired for being a senior citizen who's a brat
he's a brat yeah at over 65 years of age when he was fired in philly for being a brat and a
successful brat a stanley cup winning brat he's a brat yeah john tortorella is an actual brat and
you know what and not the cool kind like charlie xcx no it's not wait are you saying it's not
you know what this is brat spring we've done dober spring now this is brat spring because
here are the vegas golden knights can you make can you make the the the episode like the thumbnail
just green just make it green and put brat spring over john tortorella's face yeah make him look
like i think jess is gonna do it there's the there's if you want to see the pictures of john
tortorella and his face during the it's it's like he's sitting at the back of a classroom in
detention yeah it literally is like it's such a it's it you know what it is too and like vegas
golden knights fans are gonna love this because what the vegas golden knights are doing and i
said this on the last show is they're galvanizing everybody to be like everybody's against us
it's us against the world we're the villains hey hey apologize to your sister for taking her toy
i'm sorry for taking your stupid fucking toy that's this 67 year old man you at the that's
a you're humiliating you're embarrassing and a brat and i don't respect his behavior at a certain
point man like what's what's sad right now is like uh you know when people say well men used to be
men men used to be men leaders used to lead that's not leadership and and you know i've you know what
what's been shocking to me about this is the amount of golden knights fans who have had it
they're annoyed with the golden knights are they yeah there's a lot of them who are like listen man
if you guys would just show up to the media we would have our second round pick you fucking
morons that yeah and then they'll win game one tonight and they're gonna feel great about it
steve that's what we would say too if that was the leafs are you kidding me of course them we'd
carve them yeah but i get why they feel that here's where i'm at like people wonder where
like some of the shit i say comes from right like so again i gotta make it about the leafs but
with the panthers and also a handful of series against the bruins and getting wayne simmons
getting double cross-checked by the montreal canadians and nothing fucking happening and
uh the lightning and their endless litigation and the the the second panther series broke me
where nothing gets called ever just cheat just cheat that's that's what i came to the conclusion
after like oh man steve god that was really out of character when radko gutas took out matthew's
knees because i've seen how the system works nothing happens ever and nothing matters just
cheat yep right so now there's the vegas golden knights they're in the final four
right and they don't exactly play like the florida panthers but it's the same shit
it's the same shit just cheat if you walk this back right because what's actually happening
is the vegas gold knights cheated in a different way right they violated the collective bargaining
agreement and like other teams have including the leafs and the leafs were fine for it they
didn't get a dollar back and now they've been punished for it but we're sitting here and i'm
going just give them the fucking pick back because i know you're going to don't make us sit here for
what is probably going to be several weeks is your hand okay they that it did actually hurt
i didn't mean to do that i hit the corner that did actually hurt yeah um but he didn't stop
no i didn't stop i i uh can you not cut me off 10 seconds in sorry i don't don't make me sit here
for weeks on end just for you to give them their stupid pick back right before the draft oh here's
the nhl finally doing the right thing before they fart the pick right back into vegas's hands if
they can draft a hall of famer with it if there's a press release on june 25th about this draft pick
like that's gonna be really upsetting i don't hockey is unreal unreal i love it there's a
reason i've hitched my wagon to it it is awesome at every level and i i cannot stomach the way the
nhl conducts itself it is holding the thing i love hostage well hold on and it makes me an insane
person they haven't given the pick back yet i know don't pre-argue that wait hold on to that
just keep this on stop blaming the nhl the nhl did the right thing here i know but it's always
canary in the coal mine right like oh well with good behavior fuck your good behavior you've been
acting like brats for years have you ever been starting the rules for years you're not thinking
about this fully i think what think about this maybe the nhl leaves that out there to keep vegas
in line and goes yeah fuck off we're keeping your pick anyway they could they could just be saying
like listen we can't get them to behave yeah so we're gonna dangle this we're not gonna give it
back to them but we're gonna let it seem like it might be possible so that they fulfill their
obligations when we get through this season yeah that's also possible you know uh you know which
is very gary i think you know in shorzy when uh he's he's reffing and the players on the bench
and he just goes the players were the leafs last year yeah and shorzy was the panthers yeah
at least when and he went and then nothing happens right so the today version of this
is Jeff Merrick had a tweet where he pointed out hey you know Vegas needed Philadelphia's permission
to talk to John Tortorella and they offered them that courtesy and Vegas won't return it
you know what Vegas's response is they don't fucking care again we've talked about this
they don't operate like gentlemen and they don't and they don't need to they're not obligated to
the list of things against vegas you could say the the the things vegas has done that people don't
like none of them violate the rules until this right the mark lazarus one i'm not totally sure
and the other one i'm not totally sure and what i would like to say also about the nhl being like
you know what we're dinging them for this and other previous offenses you didn't ding them for
the other previous offenses because you're a weak shitty league god i'm so sick so i'm so sick the
next 20 seconds jesse are even more oh god there's more this the next 20 seconds are i think even
more important for certain fan bases around the league let's have a listen and to assure you that
it will not happen again the league has spoken the matter we have spoken the matter neither john or i
will be taking any questions hold on secondly regarding bruce cassidy teams have asked for
permission to speak with bruce we've been consistent that our focus currently is on
the stanley cup playoffs and the teams have respected that i've spoken with bruce he
understands this as well moving on to the conference finals i don't think he does kelly
i don't think he does nope he did a show and i was under the impression he didn't understand that
what are you doing all fucking you're under the impression that he didn't uh understand that
because he said i want to work into a microphone on an nhl property what do you do all day
you work in you work in the phones they're coming all the trades he's making with his team and
That's currently in the playoffs.
You're cooking up some crazy deal.
So this is where this is where he's a liar.
Well, this is the thing.
But like, we've become accustomed to you working on signing the other four there, Kelly.
Like, what's what's going on?
And, you know, in previous years, like 2016, 2017, people would have looked this clip and
gone, these guys are fucking idiots.
You could lose your job for lying like that back in the day.
This is this is now like this is comical clown shoes stuff.
And listen, I understand that they have every right to hold Bruce Cassidy back.
They do.
Yes.
It's written in the contract.
However, they're not breaking any rules.
However, just say that.
We have the right to withhold that until our playoffs are done.
And that's what we're doing.
We all know what's going on.
We called this out from day one before this fine, I think, was even levied.
We're like, listen, Vegas doesn't want to help out divisional rival Edmonton.
They don't want to help a divisional rival LA.
They're paying the contract.
sucks for bruce cassidy who's in his 60s and if they just continue to hold him hostage may never
coach again you know that's a little extreme it is a little extreme on account of john totorella
67 and these guys never retire yeah he'll be coaching whenever they allow him to coach his
contract is only for one more year yeah so like if if they actually go through this thing it'd be
next year he's looking at all the jobs in the vacancies but he'll coach again if the flyers
did this to john tortorella he would have shit himself with the power of a space shuttle
now uh yeah the flyers did have to i mean they had to he was under contract with the flyers when
vegas asked for permission at the end of the season now they were not uh they were not divisional
rivals however uh this is a this is a thing that isn't done and i just wish vegas would just come
out and just say it just say listen they're division rivals uh we don't want to help them
and where we have every right to not help them.
So we're not doing it.
But they don't have to say that.
But they're saying it's a distraction for the players.
You're allowed to believe the players care where Cassidy ends up.
You don't have to say that because you're allowed to lie into a microphone
because you're not under oath at an NHL podium.
Can I read the statement from the NHL Coaches Association?
Yeah, do it.
Because I think that there's enough evidence here
that Bruce Cassidy is not happy with what's currently happening.
I wonder what Jack Eichel thinks about Bruce Cassidy
not being able to go where he wants to go.
Yeah, exactly.
Resume his career.
The NHL Coaches Association has been closely monitoring the situation involving Bruce Cassidy.
While we respect the league's rules and processes, it is our position that coaches who remain under contract but are no longer working for their club should not be prevented from pursuing other employment opportunities.
It would be unprecedented at the head coaching level should multiple teams be denied permission to speak with Coach Cassidy.
The situation is still unfolding, but our priority is to protect the interests of our members in this type of circumstance.
This is from an association that John Tortorella belongs to, by the way.
Yes.
Well, John was granted permission.
I think I don't think it has anything to do with John.
It has everything to do with Vegas.
And listen, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.
Nobody is.
And we talked about it on Agent Provocateur.
Remember, we had the guy on who who actually manages these relationships.
Gil Scott.
Gil Scott.
um i asked him about it i said like do you think this affects coaches you know wanting to coach in
vegas and he's like no he's like there's 32 jobs so anybody out there that's making the claim that
oh well people will think no they won't they're not going to think twice about that logic never
that logic never applies to this city does it it's always no let's not make it about that though
why not no the city's full of bad toxic people no one's ever going to want to go steve come on
Let's pull it back.
Oh, we're evil.
I think the point is, the point is that this is Vegas pushing the boundaries.
I'm sure Gary gave it to them in that hearing.
I'm sure he talked to them.
I'm sure they've had phone calls, but I have a feeling that they kind of were like, okay,
fine.
We'll just, we'll just keep going with this.
And here's the question.
The question is how long it goes on for, because it's entirely possible.
They go, yeah, in July, you can talk to them.
And I don't think Edmonton has that long.
I don't think LA has that long.
um i don't if toronto makes contact although that doesn't seem to be a fit i don't think
toronto has that it is technically allowed to go on for one more season that is how long he is
under contract for they could say under their under the rules that he's not allowed to talk
to anybody until next june next june 30th yeah yeah at the end of the next working calendar i
don't think there's any way it goes that far it could having a lawyer when you're legally in the
right is legitimately fun yeah but he's not as someone who has done that why why is vegas not
in the right oh vegas is in the right yeah he's not no no oh this is what i'm saying so uh again
again the good thing to do here is let him go what's the legal thing the legal thing is
fuck the oilers fuck the kings right uh and canucks now and canucks now another pacific
division team damn sucks to suck right that's how vegas operates um like i had a i got a nasty
legal email one time and uh said to my lawyer i go what does that mean and they're like they
didn't like my tone from the last email that was it and they just laughed about it like so the nhl
can look at vegas and go we don't like your tone and we don't like the way you operate and vegas
can go lol sucks to suck these are the rules you made these are the rules you made and we're
following them yeah eat shit i think it's such like it's such brad practice you know amongst
people who are you gotta just associate with throughout the entire tenure you're gonna be
working in the nhl like i feel i don't know i don't know i feel the weird about the relationship
that kelly mccrimmon and all the guys in bill foley as one of the owners are gonna have with
the rest of the league like they're truly don't care no but there's got there's got to be a
perception now amongst everybody else in the league about like hey you're doing the wrong thing
with your brethren here because there are these limited jobs there are only 32 teams and
why are you fucking around like this jesse uh mark andre flurry won a vesna for them
they traded him for a guy no one at this table can name name him future considerations nope
It was a guy with a very long
Finnish name. Okay, I have no idea.
Hakkanainen?
Oh, okay. That sounds Finnish.
It does. Might not be the
right one, right?
Vakkanainen? No, it wasn't Vakkanainen.
That's a real person, I think.
I'm sure we could look it up.
Oh, no. What fun would that be?
They traded him
and we tut-tutted them.
They didn't make the playoffs
and we all went,
ha ha see yeah and then they won the cup yep so you know vegas has been tutted for years michael
hacker ryan and hacker ryan and damn it i was pretty close yeah yeah shoot you were you were
very close they've uh been tut tutted for years and it's like k k am i wrong though
that's why i hope the second round pick sticks because it should it's got to be the punishment
for everything you've done to
everybody. Everyone should be cool
with Vegas paying an asshole tax. Yeah.
That's what it's got to be, and I
really hope Gary Bettman doesn't back down.
Oh, they're getting fined second round pick
for being assholes? No.
They're getting fined
for violating the collective bargaining
agreement. The punishment is sticking
because of the asshole tax. Yeah,
there you go. Perfect. That's
what I hope we all, we get the conclusion
here to this story is, yeah, they got the second round
pick taken away yeah so with that we'll leave it and we will go to unless you want to go the rest
of the press conference there jesse and run and run that's all three minutes okay uh what do you
think it was like when they spoke to mitch marner for the first time july 1st 2025 the first time
yeah oh no they talked to him in that week in june because they had to get the contract all right
so that when they talked to him june 20th the first time no adam he signed that contract with
the leafs go to puck media he signed it with the leafs i know he did they talked they never spoke
of 25 let's be honest i don't think so sorry august of 24 four jesse that would be against
the rules yeah and they don't do that no we've already established they don't do that until now
for the first time ever well why are we hating we're just hating on them because we lost margaret
to them that's what we're doing oh yeah i hope you guys can live with yourselves let's do some
ontario toyota dealers your ontario toyota dealers are in red tag days right now and you should go
get yourself or at least test drive the toyota tacoma the most powerful tacoma ever now we are
heading into the third round the question is who will be the most tacoma like the most powerful
with the last four teams in this league we got two series left in this round we got one more after it
who in this third round is going to be that steve you have someone i do give it to us this person
has been dependable this person has a preposterous iron man streak brent burns brent burns okay brent
burns is going to be extremely important for the colorado avalanche especially if they're managing
a kill mccarr injury which looks like they are we're getting into that next too brent burns was
on the ice when they tied their series winning game against the minnesota wild brent burns i
love that jesse blake i have to pick the man who's gonna carry his team to the stanley cup final
and that's gonna be frederick anderson because we all know hockey is just goalie right you should
change the name it's just hey who's got the hottest goalie who's gonna tow their team to
the next round and the best goalie in the league right now is frederick anderson i love that so
Well, I'm picking him.
Same team, different player.
Jake Slavin.
There's power out there.
That's a guy.
It's not even that he crushes people.
It's not even that he is, you know, he's not spectacular to watch.
But what I love about Jake Slavin is he is the leader of the identity of the Carolina
Hurricanes, which is team defense.
Shut you down, not stop.
And he's always as dependable as a Tacoma because every time he starts up, you get the
Just the same Jake Slater, right?
The same guy.
Now, you should check out Toyota Tacomas
and everything else that Toyota has to offer
at shoptoyota.ca
or visit your Ontario Toyota dealer
now through the end of May for Red Tag Days.
Sometimes life throws your curve balls
and you don't have time to get to them.
And that's where TaskRabbit comes in.
And I think you should check this out
because here's the deal.
One of the things,
one of the weird quirks about my condo building
is that they use my floor
to rappel down and clean all the windows,
but they never clean my windows.
Uh-oh.
And their way around on that is like,
well, it's a patio window.
You can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff

So, we have already done our Avalanche Vegas series preview, but I did want to mention this, the Kale McCarr thing.
And Sam Malinsky's quote about Kale McCarr potentially not playing.
This is the part that is, this is scary if you're a Colorado Avalanche fan.
Asked what he'd say, this is according to Sportsnet, to fans worried about McCarr missing game one.
Fellow defenseman Sam Malinsky, who has also been injured, responded, I don't know what to tell them.
obviously it would be great to have him out there you can't replace him and we're going to miss him
out there yeah hopefully we can still get it done without him that sure sounds like he's not playing
oh he is not playing oh okay yeah yeah yeah no jared bednar said that this morning not playing
game one yeah yeah okay at least if you're gonna get no i didn't know that i didn't know that let
me just uh edit my fantasy lineup either okay yeah they had their uh he had his press conference
after morning skate and he said confirmed kale mccarr is now day to day and he's not playing
game one you gotta wonder what an injury like that could be if kale mccarr is out it's got to be bad
yeah well we saw him on the bench doing the hip thing you know trying to loosen it up earlier in
the series so maybe it's related to that yeah could be could be you know that hit was a crazy
that was a felino hit marcus felino i think and he sent him flying but it was like it didn't seem
like anything could have gone that wrong but it sure feels like something did i don't understand
what injuries hurt who how did you see that that screen cap of owen power uh no which one he was
bent into a yoga pose and was fine on the end boards and i don't he might have missed one shift
it doesn't make any sense and then kaelin mccarr somehow getting sent flying into like a mortal
combat phrase frame um takes him out of a conference final game yikes on bikes man that is
that's a series flipper potentially well this is the thing i'm like i'm looking at this and i'm
like i'm looking at the the avalanche lack of getting anything done on the power play in the
regular season different from the playoffs um and the vegas penalty kill and i'm like oh man this
could really shift this is bad it's bad and i know vegas it i don't think they have mark stone
i don't think we know that you never freaking know yeah he could play game one miss two be
back for three and like and be the hero game seven yeah that's mark stone you have no idea
for anybody who hadn't seen it here's the still of kale mccarr putting numbing cream on his hip
during the wild series so it might be that that hip injury that's bothering him could be something
else that's lovely is he wearing a surgical glove yeah because i think the trainer hands him the
thing and the glove to throw on so that he can put the cream on his hip and there he is reaching
his hands into his pants and there's devon taves going he's fine he's fine he's fine he's fine he's
fine he's fine this changes everything though it's like this is this is now a different series and
i wish i had this information when you're predicting the series yes right kale mccarr
off of any nhl team is a different team well he played overtime he played overtime i'm like oh
he's fine he's such a impactful player in every aspect of the game like on both sides and he
controls the play so much when he's out there that it's gonna be it's gonna be a different
avalanche team when you're watching them they're gonna have to play with a different style listen
just just cut to the chase they're winning they're being vegas winning the cup marner's
winning con smith it's going to be a long summer it's gonna be a long summer ah we got the first
overall pick i don't care i guess i don't care screw them i'm moving on i guess uh the the the
thing is the vegas uh vegas is still gonna have to deal with a relatively healthy forward group
right and you know both teams have a lot of depth at center surprise surprise teams with
depth at center always end up in the final four in the finals um it's it's not like it's all lost
and malinsky is much better than people give him credit for my question is he missed a couple of
games in the last series how hurt is he he's playing but he's their major puck mover now
when they used to have two this is why i'm hammering the brent burns button because he was
great in game seven man dude he's so important can he keep so important doing that though can
he keep doing empty the clip brent empty the clip this might be it this might be it this is your
Ray Bork moment yeah you got to play for three more weeks Brent has he ever won I don't think
he has no he has not I think he went to the cup final with the Sharks in 2016 and that's it this
is it Brent oh you got to do it lay it all out there Brent he hasn't missed a day of work in his
30 there are players getting drafted in June who have fathers that are younger than Brent Burns
you did say that on the last show i didn't i'm saying it again because it's nuts
that's crazy you gotta lay it all out there brent this is all on you now dude jesse i i think we're
we might be like what is the game now 12 hours away from the sam malinsky coming out party
because he's gonna slot in there next to taves and he's gonna do his best mccarr impression
right that's gonna be his job tonight is you are now kale mccarr let's see what you can do
and he was good based on the numbers from when macar missed a couple games during the regular
season he was good in that role like but the abs are a great team and he was able to slot in there
and do that so if he's able to replicate that what he did in the regular season we might be
sitting here on friday being like damn sam meliski is just as good as all these guys now not as great
as kill macar obviously but when he's not available macar is they have an adequate replacement yeah
you know so there is that possibility here macar has like even better defensive chops than he gets
credit for because people are trying to make him into evan bouchard and it's
and it's not working but there was a moment during the 2022 western conference final
um where maybe it was mcdavid versus macar one-on-one and the ease that macar took the
puck off him i'm like oh no the oilers aren't winning the game they're not winning the game
they're so screwed and then they didn't um but this is this is a series flipper man this is a
big big deal if vegas wins game one in colorado oh my god i'm still picking colorado like i'm
not going off that i'm gonna hop on the melinsky train i listen he's great yeah he's an excellent
excellent player and nobody pays attention because kale mccarr is you know a a titan and takes up all
the energy and and that sort of thing but that you're right jesse this could be it and it you
know what i think it has to be if they're gonna win it has to be it's not like maybe no you got
to go if you're sam malinsky today you know that and you probably feel a little bit of the weight
of that and you also just signed a big was it not a six-year extension worth 30 plus million dollars
a lot you know a few months ago you've got to be that guy now that's what they're paying you for
i think this is if this was an elimination game mccarr would be playing on account of we saw him
return to an elimination game yeah um but maybe he thinks he can get a lot healthier in the next
couple of games then colorado's not out of it their plan is to play for the next almost month
right so you gotta manage that you gotta manage it let's talk about game seven very quickly
montreal buffalo which a hundred thousand people tuned in to see steve stream um which is incredible
who watches this uh i know i know what the funniest part is is the uh is the the fact that
the clips are always see steve's a habs fan it's like wow you got him uh but i uh i do want to say
that habs fans caused a mini earthquake uh when that when the oh this is a true story by the way
when uh when the goal went in for uh the overtime yeah uh it the the screams were so loud and the
cheering so much and the stomping and whatever it caused a seismic activity measuring a point
five on the richter scale in montreal it's actually insane that's it's amazing and they've
got formula one there this weekend so tim haraney is down there and i'm like just tell me this
morning we were recording the show i was like just tell me about the vibe he's like it's euphoric in
that city he's like you wouldn't believe he's like it's always fun yes but i mean montreal and
then you've got you montreal in the eastern conference final formula one this weekend it's
crazy they're gonna get tickets no no no no he's got to work the whole thing right
esn's got him busy habs fan are having the worst best time i've ever seen they're so stressed
well it's like us with the jays right like it was stressful that was stressful and the thing
about baseball is like it's every fucking night oh my god at least you get a break here but but
sometimes in the group chat with cj i'm like you know what being a leaf fan i think is better for
me than this blue jays would be tough for you i think if you love the blue jays the way you love
the leaf to live and die every every day yeah every day every day i got i we got like what 14
back-to-backs a year or something like that every day intense i'd die so so going now we've done our
season preview for sorry our series preview for this for this so you can check it out on uh on
the youtube page it's already there but i i do want to ask about buffalo in this because buffalo's
got a lot to be proud of like truly incredible season uh they outplayed montreal in game seven
probably i think they'll play them in game six too which is why they won um uh yeah and but here's
the thing interestingly the sabers have entered the offseason with an estimated 12.9 million
dollars in cap space for next year that's 25th in the league their rfas include just some names
Benson, Krabs, and Kesselring.
Okay, Kesselring being the original centerpiece
of the J.J. Paterka deal,
which turned into actually the Josh Doan deal.
That's pretty interesting.
UFAs, this one you'll know, Tuck,
but also Beck Malenstein, Tanner Pearson,
Josh Dunn, Luke Shen, Logan Stanley.
Now, the three names on that list
that I think are the most important
are Tuck, Malenstein, and Logan Stanley.
I think Tuck was rumored to want
roughly what the sabers have in cap space yeah and remember they've got zucker and greenway i
think that are probably making too much money so you probably try to move those guys but logan
stanley might be in for an massive payday that i don't think people are ready for he's six foot
seven i'm walking away you're walking away from logan yeah if i'm buffalo i'm walking are you
walking away from beck malenstein who's extremely big and one of the fastest skaters on the planet
no i try to keep him and alex tuck what do you do there i don't freaking know because earlier in the
series even though he wasn't scoring i thought he was effective and their numbers were horrible as
a line but i didn't see him as the centerpiece of it i saw the centerpiece as the center and that
was tage thompson who ended up it's interesting the the conversation now that the series is done
has switched to tuck was bad to me it was tuck and thompson were horrible together
thompson was great on his new line tuck wasn't right that's how i look at it like if you look
at thompson's it's it's a little bit of the marner conversation if you look at thompson's numbers
throughout the series you go what's the problem if you look at the individual games oh that's the
problem or the individual moments uh from game seven when it comes to tuck i don't have a good
explanation i don't um the puck didn't go in he never seemed to i feel like he didn't use his
teammates well and they didn't use him well there were so many times where i'm like all right he's
in a fierce puck battle and oh he got it and he's the only saber where did they all go they're all
changing or something he was trying like he's shooting he's hitting this puck didn't go in man
puck didn't go in you look at his last two regular seasons it's kind of alarming how consistent his
production's been and it just died i don't have a good explanation for that and i have a hard time
giving them double digits after a performance like that jesse what how much would you weigh
alex tuck's future in buffalo based on the couple of rounds that he had in the playoffs like is this
something that it's like hey he just had a he just had an unproductive playoff uh but we still
love this guy and can commit to him long term or because the rumor out there midseason was that it
was not, you know, nine million. It was 10 million plus. I wouldn't if it were up to me, I would be
reluctant to give him that money. I never like paying a guy at that age who's kind of peaking
at this point in his career. But I think it's tough because of the the ties to Buffalo are so
strong and you know you want to keep around guys who want to be there yeah so i think like that
factor as well but when you notice like his career highs have come in the last two seasons scored 36
goals in the 25 season and then 33 in the most recent season man so when you're there and you're
30 you can't expect that pace to sustain you know like if the guy was 26 you'd be go for the next
10 years or whatever so i expect as soon as you're signing this contract you're probably getting
two more years out of that level of production and then we're probably dropping off especially
with this i think you got to take a lot from this playoff performance where it's like hey
this is where the games matter the most and you weren't the best this was your worst part of your
season so i'd be reluctant to give him that money but i think from a franchise as a whole you kind
of just have to do it and swallow the pill he is from western new york the most he could get in
terms of years anywhere else now is six seven is what the sabers could sign him to so they do have
that advantage of being able to keep the aav down if he truly wants to stay which i think you know
he does he said in his press conference today which is happening by the way right now they're
doing locker clean out that he hasn't focused on it and he's going to start to have those
conversations with his family uh and his agent and the sabers in the next few days uh what gives me
pause about the tuck number is uh like i'm not actually looking at that list of free agents
overly alarmed like you got shen as a deadline guy you got stanley as a deadline guy as well
malenstein i would really fight to keep it at the end of the day he's a fourth liner
like you have a ton of young prospects it's time to enjoy the fruits of that helenus i think is
very obviously uh capable of a bigger role on this team it's benson the the guy i'm
more concerned about locking up is zach benson you lock that boy up for as long as you can
yeah and he's an rfa so it's a little different of a deal there yes yes and talks with him because
he's an rfa might allow you to get the tuck deal done but at some point you're gonna have to pay
the piper there i just think if you're if you're buffalo and there wasn't the association with
western new york with tuck i'd look at him as a replacement player like i could get what i need
out of that spot in the lineup out of different pieces whether it's a young guy filling in those
goals or if it's just a collection of free agent signings because 10 million dollars is a lot it is
and jess you know the other thing is buffalo has been at the bottom of the standings for a long
long time my assumption is that their system is pretty good i'm not a prospects expert but i would
imagine they're in the top third of the league so sometimes what happens too with teams like this is
the veteran gets pushed out and it allows young players to kind of assert themselves next season
right and i gotta think um yarmo's probably got some guys that it goes okay if tuck goes
we'll move this guy up and somebody will get into the third line or something so this is the funny
thing i'm looking at the rochester americans their top scorer in the regular season while it's
actually tied it's constant uh helenus who had 62 points in 63 games that's amazing that's ridiculous
in the a their second leading scorer is a uh defenseman named zach jones who played a bunch
with the rangers he's played 115 games in the nhl 28 points this season he had 62 points in 60 games
as a defenseman the ahl is wonky all right so who's third oh isaac rosen yeah you could promote
him oh nope you traded him to the jets as part of that deal right so you got to go even further down
i guess the sabers are fascinating because you could argue from a certain point in the season
they were the best team in the nhl right but i would argue they're a team built for the future
okay so which team do you want to be right this is why i'm prioritizing benson because i'm looking
at what the sabers have and i'm like do you you don't want this to be a flash in the pan kind of
year and you don't want to contend for the next two years at the cost of falling off a cliff
i want to build this program for the future right so that's why i'm concerned about a potential
tuck deal yeah i don't know i don't know what to do there but they have options they have guys
they can trade something i wonder about too in a trade is you know bo byram has like a year left
on his deal there was some i mean i think he tried to get traded anyway and kevin adams was just like
no um and now with yarmo there you got a year left he makes six and a half he's a right shot
defenseman and no no he's uh sorry left shot lefty who i think sometimes plays right but you've got
Radom Mirka just waiting in the
minors and I wonder if
you know you are able to
trade Bo Byram
for the guy that might replace
Alex Tuck because I think that's a pretty
valuable piece right? I got it. It's a half million dollars
I have to check. Did they
trade Mirka? I don't think they did
No no Mirka's on the team. Oh okay
No no because wasn't he supposed to
be part of the Pareko deal?
Yes he was but he's not. Aha
Yeah. Interesting. And had
34 points in 43 games with the Thunderbirds
in the WHL so maybe he's a year or two away
like could be that too he's 18
yeah he's still eight but you got
what I'm saying is there are options here
they can be flexible yeah but they're gonna have to move
some salary this is why I'm saying like I
think you're built for the future
but I think the way these guys
these executives look at the NHL is
no we're good now
like look at what the Leafs did
right that all we were a game
away from the from the third round
sabers have got to be thinking the same thing that now you got two atlantic division teams
cursing the habs because we were the better team in game seven and lost right they were so good for
so long and they got so close to a birth in the final four i think they might just go for it i
think you just settle on just bringing tuck back you know you know yeah i think you just sit on it
like yeah bring him back try it again you you sign benson you sign tuck you figure out the rest
later and you deal with it later yep so every time a new season hits uh you realize in your
your wardrobe specifically a summer one you're like oh that that's a little old that probably

Now, interestingly, the NHL just revealed its compensation for RFAs yesterday.
Do we get to talk a little about the game specifically at all?
Sure, I just figured it was old news two days ago.
No, stupid.
But yeah, talk about the game.
We haven't had a podcast.
Yeah, I know.
but yeah go ahead what do you want to say steve i think your perspective is the most interesting on
on what went down on the on the new hook goal if you want to start from the end and oh my god way
back but i don't i don't feel like the daline play in the other zone is getting enough shine on
what an egregious mistake that is on that turnover and credit to the habs there on pressuring that
puck but for for him to make this play at the line where he's trying to take the haves one-on-one
with a fake slap shot and then keeping the puck and trying to dangle around and feeding a forcing
forcing a pass to tage thompson that doesn't work and leads to go the other way the margins in the
playoffs are so slim that when you make mistakes like this that's what leads to series ending goals
who's the pressuring player is that demidoff i forgot i think it's demidoff i wanted to give
him the habs credit on that one too because yeah dalian's got the puck at his own blue line and he
decides to fake a slap shot and then not take it and i believe it's demidoff who decides to just
keep going at him and it forces this play because now he's like okay i'm gonna try and pass this
puck to tage here and he can't do it and the habs are going the other way as as tage loses it there
and then the Habs are in perfect position to go back up
and Newhook scores that goal.
It is a grenade right onto the stick of Tage Thompson's.
And I don't really blame Tage for it.
I know he's the guy who turned it over.
Demidov, to me, has been incredible.
Oh my God, look at the shots.
They're 39 to 24.
Demidov, he's been so snakebitten
and he finally got off the schneid there with a couple goals.
but i've really liked his defensive chops i'm amazed the system martin saint louis has
everyone playing it's it's a little barubi-esque um not nearly as heavy um they're just dogged
they try really really hard um what what did you think of the goal that was called back
sabers fans are upset about i think it was the right call i do too he poked him
The whistle blew.
The whistle also blew.
The whistle blew and he poked the puck that wasn't really loose
because it's in between the pads.
You can't do that.
I know.
And like, listen, if it was against the rules,
I'd 100% be on the show going, ah, not a league.
Like I have many, many times.
I know the puck was loose when the whistle was blown.
But what is it?
The intent to blow the whistle?
It's under Dovish.
It's not a goal, guys.
and hey listen lindy ruff you scream no goal for long enough sometimes it becomes true
what did you think of the dobish uh flop i don't want to use the flop words but i will
flop it all over the place when he got hit uh so he did get hit once where i'm like i get it
but then it looked like he got shot so i called that a flop in real time and then they showed
the replay from in the net and i went oh yeah he got hit hard yeah no zucker hit him hard and
intentionally uh no he's selling it i thought it was fair it was a fair non-call because he
embellished the hit it was a hard hit but he took it to another level and embellishment is illegal
so i guess you don't call the goalie interference because that he embellished it so i thought it
was fair to just go all square it'd be great if you go back and look at him turning to the ref
because the ref like makes a face like how dare you even ask me to call something right now this
is game seven yeah like how listen most of these guys don't know what it's like to play in a game
seven you do you did it two weeks ago how dare you even ask me yeah uh i thought that was funny
i thought nick suzuki slapping zucker in the face right in front of the ref it was a love
paw but it was good yeah it was good it makes for a great gif yeah it's a great meme no um
that that was not a goal the the execution the lack of execution i should say on the power play
by the sabers late in that game i thought oh no goes to the box it would have been my heart would
have been broken if phil to know ended up being the billy goat of the game with that late high
sticking penalty goes to that box third period buffalo sabers power play and montreal executes
perfectly on the penalty kill they're unreal like they they were fantastic defensively and really
good instincts really good sticks then like they're a really high scoring team in the regular
season i believe they're seventh in goals per game in the regular season and scoring they've
struggled in the playoffs you know like all of their top guys aren't doing it at five on five
and they've stepped up defensively with dobish playing great and these little moments where
they don't need all of the scoring that they got in the regular season to win these games and
they won another close game seven just like in the tampa one where they didn't need a bunch of goals
in here they're able to just get that extra one and and they did it i'm trying to find the tweet
i believe it was travis yost but um supposedly in that series the suzuki slavkovsky um caulfield
line was outscored 10-3 at even strength that's either in the series or in the playoffs both are
shocking how are you alive how are you still playing it feels that way with slav on the ice
he's i think he's had a really poor postseason so far he's just like i watch him play generally
and i don't hate it but like there's you're not more is expected of you right and this is this
is the conversation we often have with the leafs come this time of year but you guys are the stars
more is expected of you and here i am sitting going well nick suzuki's playing good defense
more is expected of you
Caulfield well he's getting his power
plate cookie more is expected of
you but
they're in the final four so who cares
it's crazy
it's crazy and the path
is
psychotic you
have Vegas who's beaten
no disrespect
Utah and Anaheim
you have
Carolina who's beaten no
disrespect ottawa and philadelphia you have the avalanche who beat the kings and it was a joke
and then they mopped that was minnesota that was a really good clinical yeah i didn't expect i
didn't expect them to beat them at all but i didn't expect them to beat them like that
tampa and buffalo yeah seven games each battle tested holy shit they should just get 28 games
man no one's ever done it no one's ever done it yeah and when they won those games against
buffalo to the habs credit because people were really upset that you called the series tight
they won those games resoundingly like they weren't in overtime they weren't they weren't
like they weren't small victories you know they dominated in their victories but yeah when it
came down to it in that game seven overtime it was tight it was a tight series they did and like
i almost felt i don't know i don't know if this is the right way to look at it i almost felt
um tampa had a better chance to beat montreal than buffalo did yeah i agree um like in those
tight moments um even though it's weird again you look at the numbers in buffalo
that's 39 to 24 that's so insane um buffalo seemed like leagues and miles better
dobish was able to give them simple saves and a few really good ones um
they wilted in some of those moments yeah the habs are weirdly able to play really well when
they're getting hemmed in and like that the middle portion of the game i'd say buffalo
controlled a lot of the play but montreal was able to just do enough to to stay in it and
and win the game eventually i think if buffalo can find someone to consistently give benson the puck
he'll score 40 in this league he's crazy and maybe there's all the goals you're gonna leave uh
tuck behind with right yeah yeah there you go mate you know what maybe if alex tuck performed
they'd be playing today well tomorrow radio hey no he's freaking right that's what they're probably
wgr 550 yeah that's what that's what the call-in segment's saying right now if he scores the game
seven winner do you know any of us remember or care yeah you might remember you definitely don't
care right if or if he assists on if he gets a secondary assist on it yeah how about if he gets
nothing and they win anyway yeah don't care these are the margins because here's the thing if the
haves had lost we've been like well suzuki needs to bring more and slavkoski needs to bring more
right that's how it goes now i have to move us on because we got a bunch of interesting topics and
And as much as I love the Montreal Buffalo series, it ended 48 hours ago and we got to move forward.
So looking at compensation for RFAs, if an offer sheet is even made this offseason, it seems more likely now than ever just because of the amount of cap space that's available.
But 1.5759 million or less, that's no compensation at all.
Everybody's going to match that because everybody's got cap room.
Not everybody.
1.5759 to 2.38 is a third round 2.38 to 4.775 is a second round 4.775 to 7.163 is first and a third 7.163 to 9.5 is first second and third 9.5 to 11.9 is two first one second one third and finally the big boy almost 12 million dollars or more so it's 11.939 for four first round picks
I think no one's doing that uh no one's doing that but you know listen if like Macklin Celebrini
is an RFA all right wow you could have four first overall picks and never get a Macklin Celebrini
right I would make that offer sure but now San Jose is gonna have that wrapped up before we
even hit free agency but that is where you kind of have to wait it's like okay I would have four
first round picks i get four different players or i'm gonna have macklin you're gonna get macklin
all day all day figure it out later the name that keeps coming up is mackie samuskevich
in florida that's an interesting one because they are capped out they don't have the room
right they're in a little bit of an oiler but he has to sign it but he has to sign it what's the
high end of just second round pick uh give me a sec it was four something 4.75
does florida match that can they yeah does it make sense for them to match that i don't know
if it makes sense because they're also going to get a you know they're in the top 10 right they're
going to get a draft pick here like they'll be okay they might just go meh that's that's there's
an attrition to being great and florida has to accept that and i'm sure they do bill zito does
the hockey man thing where he goes listen i know you can just offer sheet him give me a second and
a third and we don't have to go through that whole song and dance right that's how they operate good
for them good for them right like doug armstrong and his weird pity trade he did with the oilers
after yeah so he doesn't torch the relationship i think mostly never but jess what are you looking
at uh macklin celebrini is not offer sheet eligible oh he's not oh yeah because he's coming
off the elc no he has another year left does he really have another year oh yeah right contract
expires in 27 they are still going to sign him to an extension this offseason i'm convinced
i'm convinced they should but that's why also he shouldn't you don't know where the cap's going
do not sign that unless you're making yeah i do north caprizov money like get get your money
he's gonna be the first 20 mcdavid mccarr might be too it might be celebrating i don't think he
gets that this i don't think either but no no no i don't think so you can ask for anybody is curious
there are 63 total players that are offer sheet eligible this off season the highest point getter
available uh who could be offer sheeted is jason robertson what about wow bedard's on that list
connor bedard so i'll run through the top uh point getters in terms of who can be offer sheeted
in terms of skaters this does not include goaltenders thank you to puckpedia for this
information puckpedia an amazing resource for hockey fans jason robertson connor bedard
Trevor Zegers, Leo Carlson, Dora Faev, Adam Fantilli, Connor McMichael, Zach Benson, Chinnokaw, Maverick Bork, Brant Clark, Matthias Michelli.
Don't you dare!
Somebody please.
There's already arguments out there, Jesse, that actually know you guys are all wrong about Michelli.
And that he's good?
No.
Moving on.
I ate crepes.
maybe maybe maybe berube cole sillinger nick robertson jamie drysdale cole perfetti sam
escavage robertson's interesting and there we go yeah those are the main ones yeah then we get into
the and none of them will get an offer then we oh jack drury's on this list too oh nemich is on
this list yeah no i should have kept scrolling evanson hayton yeah yeah there's some there's
some names mintikov still on this list so is zellweger which is olin zellweger is better
than people think man yeah he's a good player you have a kirby doc that's pretty interesting
people keep bringing up uh barrett hayton just because jake had drafted him but i don't know i
don't see it and the most important name on this list mark gatcombe yeah yeah mark gatcombe is the
most important name on this list because he's the one who scored two goals in the ovechkin game
where ovechkin broke the record against the islanders right and let's be honest mark gatcomb
got his first star of the game stolen oh by ovechkin has mark gatcomb ever gotten first star
in an nhl game probably not has he ever scored two goals in an nhl game ever again
probably not ovi owes him he does actually the most interesting person on that list number 54
uh vincent yorio who i found out uh the other day because my wife is a stunt double for the
hit series off campus oh really wife is she's a huge fan no your wife is a stunt double for the
no oh did i word it wrong yeah yeah she's a stunt double i was like what when no sorry she
you said that one of the hockey players stunt doubles is vincent yorio that's fun
uh i know what you meant by the way off campus apparently is just hugely successful and there's
like a million bucks so they're just gonna keep making those there's uh man they waste no time
they go straight to the gratuitous naked butt shot yeah straight up here it is listen why wait
why wait why wait to work why don't we to watch for 60 minutes for that to happen are we beating
around the butt um what would a jason robertson offer sheet come in on the on the compensation
list it's going to be over i mean he jason roberts is going to make 12 but where would it lie within
the picks you got to give up well before first right because he's going to be if he's over if
he's over 11.939 it's four first round picks what's the one below it uh two first a second
and a third for no like the money oh sorry 9.5 to 11.9 if you off if you if you went on if you
went in that category and you're not going to get a jason roberts in every draft for 11 million
let's say yeah and then you got to give up what you said two first yeah and let's say you're a
team i don't know like here's the thing here's the thing let's say you're a team that thinks
you're going to be good for a while right and you're yeah your picks are going to be 25 to 31
or 32 in the draft robertson for like that's a trade i would make yes okay he had 96 points yes
let's play this game okay give it to us let's play this game you're san jose
you don't need any more firepower up front you don't need your pick no no no no no no you can
never have enough i guess but you're gonna need a defense core at some point you're san jose
you're stacked with young talent stacked you did the draft thing you killed the draft thing
you're good this year the hockey gods descended from hockey heaven and went oh and they gifted
you the second overall
pick. Which is unbelievable.
It's amazing. Use that
second overall pick, get a crazy
player, and throw
every draft pick out the friggin' door
and offer sheet Jason Robertson. Yeah.
You have the space, you have
the young
roster asset
justification to do it.
Go ahead and do it.
And you should be good enough that those
two first round picks that you're going to give
up aren't ridiculously high anymore nope they're not i'm looking at current cap space oh do the
stars have a lot that's less fun yeah i don't know that they do room for uh they currently
they currently have 1 million but the 775 that he's making is coming off the boat yeah because
it only cost them like 5 million more well not if they want to keep them no i mean like you got
to account for the only need to go up like four yeah it's not a 12 ad it's a 775 minus whatever
the difference is it's really like a four million dollar yeah so here's what they have coming off
the books and obviously they can make trades too so there's robertson at 775 which let's say he
gets 12 okay so you're adding five four ish whatever um bunting at 4.5 is coming off the books
um but he was a trade deadline acquisition jamie jamie ben has a million dollar cap it oh he signed
one of those stupid bergeron deals yeah yeah it's got a bunch of bonuses in it okay so that's
interesting uh maverick bork probably gonna want to raise he's an rfa uh r2 huru i don't know how
much of a raise they're ernie bastion you can handle that you got anything on the back ends
Petrovic,
Kope Bianco,
you survive,
nothing in net.
That's way,
that's boring.
I'm upset about that.
What were you trying to figure out?
Well,
I was trying to figure out
if the Sharks could offer
Jason Robertson
because it'd be fun.
And they can't?
And they probably could,
but I think the Stars would match.
Awesome.
Now,
we do have,
because we got limited time,
I got a bunch of headlines
that I got to get through.
It's not that he hates the Stars,
it's just fun.

Maple Leaf Hot Stove did a really good deep dive on David Carl
who appears to be the leading candidate
for at least what the Leafs want as a coach.
Obviously, very, very successful coach.
I didn't realize he was Matt Carl's brother.
And I also didn't realize Matt Carl
of the San Jose Sharks and other teams too.
And he was also drafted after they found out
that he had a heart condition.
So he was going, he had a, oh my God,
a scholarship to university.
Then they found out, okay, well, he's got a heart condition.
so he can't play hockey anymore at all so he basically the the university honored the scholarship
and made him a player coach that's awesome and so and it's the it's the same university which is
no it's not not the same university but it wasn't denver no no it wasn't ever but uh what's amazing
about this whole story and this is my favorite part is that tampa bay lightning order uh sorry
owner before jeff vinick drafted him anyway because i guess they were some sort of there's
some sort of family connection they 203rd overall yeah seventh round 2008 just because they weren't
going to draft anybody of consequence at that point anyway but they said you know what you've
worked really hard you deserve at least because he was supposed to go like second or third round
this guy he was one of the final picks of the draft i'm trying to see if any really good players
are picked after him no a couple guys who played but no not really and what's amazing is that they
go into like who he's had in his system and you know he hasn't had the big ncaa stars in the way
that other teams have uh and yet he's been able to make it work and that's i think what's so
appealing to nhl teams about this guy but for him uh you know the young family thing keeps getting
brought up but i think what what they mean is that he doesn't have he could sit in denver forever
make millions of dollars which he's probably already making raise his kids and then in his
50s because he's in his early 30s no he's 36 oh okay so he's in his mid-30s it's really tough so
okay i don't want the leafs to sign him i'll just say it okay i don't need both the leafs gm and
coach to be younger than me yeah that's fair that's fair that hurts my heart i'm sure he's
great but it hurts my ego no no i'm that's a joke the thing about it is that like you know he could
go in 15 years when his kids are grown up and then go into it but what he doesn't like is seeing
things like what we saw yesterday with adam foot getting tasked with keeping quinn hughes okay they
couldn't keep quinn hughes okay now adam you must tank now we're gonna fire you for it yeah um that
is something that he's just not interested in so if he does go to the nhl level like expect a long
term deal and a far more involved head coach in the front office now whether you think that's a
good thing or not good thing those are the caveats that come with it uh hey if you have time use it
yeah there there are there are coaches that are more than three decades older than david carl
yeah he's got time uh granado and casting gay are going to stay on as assistant general managers
uh in vancouver but ryan johnson said they wanted a fresh start it looks like manny maholtra is
probably the leading candidate there although you'd think the leafs who have experience with
him on the bench he was an assistant coach here for years would have some sort of interest there
as well ryan johnson was his ahl gm when they won the call oh wow that's great and then steve
do you how much should someone's ahl coaching record matter because i know the what are they
the vancouver giants uh whatever where no that's the whl team the abbotsford canuck abbotsford
canucks why why did i go whl um they didn't have a great season but should fans be looking at
manny malhotra and saying like oh he's had a bad coaching record they go to the finals the previous
year though they won oh they won but this year was a big step back year this year we went to
san jose and watched them kill the barracuda twice uh and then um yeah they they won um but
what didn't the canucks raid the canucks didn't the vancouver canucks raid the abbotsford canucks
because they just kept trading players and they had to call them up and right guys kept getting
hurt and uh like it's a pretty understandable fall off so it shouldn't matter that mohutra's
team wasn't that good on the ice no i don't know about his coaching talents i don't think anyone
in vancouver is like man it's because he sucks right okay i don't know we can't blow in the wind
uh that that hard right oh he's great he won oh he's terrible he lost right i don't think that's
how it works i i think uh promoting him would probably be the right move there there can't be
i don't know how many people are clamoring for that job right now because you know what you're
signing up for that's not going to be a short rebuild um that's a guy with familiarity with
people in the system they already had familiarity with foot but this is different this is a guy who
was on the bench with the vancouver canucks this is a guy who helped develop the vancouver canucks
yep right there's a there's a difference um how much does ahl coaching record matter somewhat
like john cooper started there he won there um sheldon keith won there he had some pretty good
nhl seasons he's still with the devils they fired a bunch of people but not him um yeah i can't think
of every calder cup winning coach off the top of my head but uh malhotra should probably be the
leading candidate there they went 28 37 and 4 missing the playoffs second last in the pacific
division i feel bad for adam foot i really do like maybe he wasn't the right fit as a head coach
i'd love to know they fucking set him up man like who was their leading scorer and who played more
than 60 games uh it'd take me a second because the ahl site doesn't readily i guess well the
reason i'm asking for that yeah the ahl website is lurking but uh the reason i'm asking that is uh
they had a highly, highly interrupted season.
And sometimes it can end the way it has for the Marlies,
where it was, again, very interrupted.
The Leafs kept raiding them.
But if you stay alive for long enough
and you're relatively healthy,
then you get all those guys back.
Yeah.
And you have what has been a pretty good Calder Cup run.
Niels Amann, 41 points in 55 games.
Yep.
There you go.
Great player.
That's their leading scorer.
ben barard uh second 37 points in 63 games ty mueller 37 points in 61 games outside of those
top five guys there's a lot of arsh deep baines played 34 games wow lecker amaki played 21 he's
gonna be a good player uh yeah like fairly obvious to me i don't think malhotra sucks this guy could
be the head coach of the leafs in a week yep or the canucks yeah or the canucks one guy that will
not be a head coach of the canucks is sheldon keith who is going to stay in new jersey um that
surprised a lot of people but i have to be honest i'm not surprised at all um i think sheldon keeps
a very good coach i think he fits the system perfectly as steve you said years ago when he
was hired there and i think sunny meta is gonna have a look at this guy and go hey uh i think
this person is a very good coach let's see what he does with a healthy team jack you know jack
hughes not cutting his hand early in the season you know like let's get the team together here
and figure this out that's a roster issue they got to figure out because like listen it's difficult
to survive losing your best player your best player i understand that but it's also the nhl
and no one cares right this has happened now more than once to detroit with dylan more than once to
new jersey no well this is what i'm saying so the reason i'm bringing up detroit and new jersey is
they've both had seasons where they're great larkin goes down or hughes goes down oh they're
trash you can't just immediately go from great to not even close to the playoffs yeah but i don't
think i don't put last season on keith there was a lot i don't i put it on tom fitzgerald yeah yes
job who is immediately going to be hired in nashville so it was it was it wasn't just hughes
going down with injury i'd love to know what the record was after the quinn hughes trade because
the devils kind of really started to suck a lot of locker room troubles there yeah i think so and
the cap was managed really poorly when the meta couldn't possibly do a worse when queen was traded
though that killed their season it did it did that was the thing uh apparently the wild made
a play for luke hughes late in the season by the way there's a rumor mike russo said that so that's
funny um i wanted to ask you guys this how do you feel about mike babcock coach of the
edmonton oilers uh on oilers now brian lawton uh who i believe does a lot of nhl um network stuff
but he's a player former agent said to stoffer that if first off this is hilarious because it
kind of fits perfectly with our vegas stuff if cassidy were willing to just walk away from his
final season with the vegas golden knights he suspects that vegas would be able to give
permission but cassidy being a smart businessman is like yeah but that would take away my leverage
and i also earned that contract you fuckers why am i just giving you three million dollars or
whatever he's making five four or five yeah no i'm not doing like what yeah i'm not david
myself like are you crazy oh dear uh ridiculous lawton said to stop he said i'm sure if somebody
is called up uh some somebody called up a team like vegas or anybody else look i'll just terminate
then they'll they'll let them talk to whoever they want now the other side of it is uh stoffer
suggested that the oilers might be hiring former red wings coach mike babcock by the way this is
in the edmonton journal dave staples with the writing on this uh who was recently hired and
then resigned from the columbus blue jackets before the 23-24 season for looking through
players phones he didn't mention that uh make it out of training camp guys yeah um what are we
did lot and see babcock as an option oh he does mention in the next sense does lot and see babcock
as an option i would think so i would think someone uh with uh stan bowman's background
would certainly have to have a lot of thoughts about that right stan has gotten a second chance
i don't think that that was uh anything necessarily given i think stan worked at it i think he
deserved to get a second chance. Now, can I say that about Mike? I know Mike and I really like
him. I think he's a good human being. Lawton also referenced Columbus and he said, I know this
business can be cruel. One wrong word, one wrong interaction with a player today, and it's enough
to set you back. There has been a number of coaches and other people in management where
it's happened to. Is Brian Lawton blaming cancel culture for Mike Babcock? Are you serious?
this is that's an insane interview um now i think there's smoke there i think this is the
i absolutely think that he's right that there would be a consideration and potentially an
interview it's okay if his name comes across your desk as long as you then don't interrupt
the momentum wipe it off of the desk yeah like guys get a grip columbus was his second chance
and he didn't make it out of camp get a grip oh you're so hard to okay okay like if that's
your worldview i just i just genuinely feel sorry for you don't feel sorry for mike babcock
for living life free as a bird yet he mike do this oh fuck you
oh okay well you're fired okay well you still gotta fucking pay me and he didn't want to work
he had three or three he had four and three and a half years left on his deal and he intentionally
chose not to work in order to punish the leaves like at least that's the rumor yeah mike you're
fired okay that's great fuck you yeah and then he collected his paycheck and then got another one
from saskatchewan or i don't care if he got paid or not whatever who cares he went and coached at
a canadian university there was rumors there about things yeah happenings and then there
was rumors about mike babcock being mike babcock and then uh he shows up in columbus and doesn't
make it out of holy shitting camp no it's kids and their phones and fucking avocado toaster god
get another thing yep what are we doing what are we doing mike babcock in 2026 all right
sure you do you no one would be shocked if the edmonton oilers did that what what do you think
the story would like how does that story play jesse how do you think that plays in edmonton
i don't know that fans would be down i don't think you'd make it out of training camp again
i think it'd be a signing and then you got to retract it again i don't think fans would be
down with it i weirdly weirdly don't think mcdavid says no right away i don't think the
oilers are dumb enough to do this the last time we said that on the show we got several comments
saying please stop saying the oilers are not dumb enough to do something from oilers fans and by the
way i don't think craig berube is dumb i hope everybody knows that it's just i don't think
that system fits i think he's more likely than babcock i hope he is jesse i hope he is berube
came in and he spammed the yell at guys button and it worked and then he kept pushing the yell
at guys button and it stopped working you can hire him to spam the yell at guys button and
have it work in one year well the he it was the elite goaltending but that too which they don't
have the yelling never mattered because it was just oh you're getting elite goaltending that's
going to mask all of your deficiencies in your system and then he didn't get that and the yelling
was still there and this thing ran its course yep so i don't think edmonton has elite goaltending
to support craig ruby's system i think mike babcock is a cancer to a dressing room and to
your team and i think they are smart enough to go in neither direction well there you have it well
the fact that they're even considering it does you know to me it could say two things
yeah i shouldn't say i i didn't do a good job there adam jesse have you considered kids these
days cancel culture uh just have you considered they're always on their phone i have not considered
that because i don't think it should be considered hey jesse it's a cruel business i mean yes guys
could just make a mistake or a career worth of horrible things to players jesse psychologically
torture a guy yeah several guys have you considered he deserves a second chance for a second time
is mike babcock in the hall of fame yet no no i don't think he is but he should be i didn't say
it's a hockey hall of good guys he should be in the hall of fame it's not a hockey hall of good
guys oh just wait he'll be in there just wait for the joel quenville conversation yeah uh they're
both getting in uh i don't know listen the committee the committee can make you wait
and he might have to wait um but you're gonna look at the numbers and it's gonna tell you
one thing and one thing only it's gonna be fun day buddy if if that if that fucking happens
we're live streaming that press conference like are you kidding me oh you're gonna live stream it
are you absolutely kids and their phones oh go ahead and watch it on your phone listen i'm not
the one looking for nudes on fantilli's phone okay god damn allegedly i don't know what he was
looking for i don't know what he was looking for either i'm just making a joke you better be taking
selfie videos of you doing edge work i just i just think on his skates i just think it speaks it
could be two things for edmonton first off you cast the widest net possible he is undoubtedly
a hall of fame coach that's pretty wide net yeah or you're fucking desperate you're desperate i
don't know if you get a net wider than that do you do you okay whoa look at the size of this fish
i caught isn't that one of those like toxic fish that if you eat it you die yeah but yeah but it's
big and i caught one and i caught it i've seen steve on the ice with his child showing him at
a skate if our net's so wide steve should be in consideration hey call me on my phone and then
look through it listen you guys have seen you we have seen players come back to the nhl with far
worse things on their resume and that is true mike babcock might be the first like hall of fame
worthy coach to get kicked out for just being an asshole well i think he's it looks it sounds like
you might be back in because here's the thing if the oilers are all of fame if the oilers are
considering this if they're even considering it it means that they probably don't think
there's a chance that vegas just doesn't let him talk to cassidy well you have to operate like that
right you do you have to operate like vegas is going to do the worst thing possible because they
are and they can oh man we're gonna have a shitty guy off whatever cassie like although if cassidy
does want to walk away from his contract which is maybe maybe that's what vegas wants him to do
i know edmonton could pay him they've got the money guys i don't think you're fully appreciating
how much fuck you is in the florida panthers just went for two years yeah yeah they screamed
fuck you at the league for two years and they got two cups out of it vegas is eight wins away
from a cup because they're just going around going but oh man the oilers shouldn't sign mike babcock
because like he's mean and stan bowman's gonna be like you're not gonna un-reinstate me fuck you
i do have a question though i wonder what because again connor's agent is judd judd's other notable
client one of many actually is uh austin matthews connor would put in a call yeah uh matthews i
don't think cared for his time with mike babcock from what i have so connor's gonna be the the x
factor am i breaking news there yeah can you imagine connor mcdavid had to sit down for
breakfast with mike babcock because you know that's what would happen right that you're gonna
meet with the players and remember he used to take the cab to that weird breakfast place near
the gas station it's not a weird breakfast place it was uh what was it uh expectations expectations
which is that place is great i love that weird place but it was a bunch of times it was right
beside a gas i'm like the gas everything's next to a gas station what here jesse can you please
find that photo because there's something in the photo that's going to piss everybody off
i'm sure if you type in mike babcock ilia mckay of gas station it should be the first thing that
comes up i think it's babcock mckay of and is it dan milstein the other guy in the phone yes dan
is his agent and so this would have been from i think 2019 when mckay have signed uh in toronto
he's gonna find it and trust me the payoff is gonna be right here it is here it is jesse's
gonna bring it up and it's yeah that's definitely dan milstein and babcock and is really awkward
i'm a dad selfie all right there you go look at the price of gas i know i knew that's where you're
going look at the it's 170 i thought it was going to be that deep v-neck of his which would have
been in at the time it was thank you for covering babcock's face it's 117.9 when i left today it
was like 19 that's not dan milstein by the way just in case everybody wants to know that's
definitely not not dan milstein no yeah you're right that's not dan milstein who the hell is
I don't know, but it's not Dan.
Yeah, that's not even close to Dan.
I've met Dan.
That's not Dan.
That's not Dan at all.
Who is this man?
Who is this man?
He's like a nice guy.
Maybe he's a fan.
He could have been a fan.
I don't even know.
Why is the fan in the picture?
That's not a fan.
No, maybe he was like, hey, guys, can I get a selfie?
Mike was always nice to fans.
I think it's Mr. McHale.
Or it could be the owner of expectations.
It could be.
That's what I'm saying, a fan.
there's also an advertisement there for jewels like the the e-cigarette thing oh yeah they got
banned oh yeah now you couldn't do that uh that's this is a relic in the going back in the day this
this photo is a hell of a time capsule yeah yeah i always go back to this photo just for the price

Looks like a very friendly guy. We are not beating
the guys naming guys allegations.

naming guys. I think we have to do
Jim justice.

Get him on Agent Provocateur.
