all right so uh should this just be a ryan nugent hopkins appreciation episode man
like should we just spend the whole time talking about that guy
which top five pick is this that you're discussing with the oil man man imagine the
oilers had kept and hit on more of them dude of all the guys in the oilers who deserve all of this
it's ryan nugent hopkins probably he was there in the in the before times in the long long ago
yeah who is is he the longest tenured oiler he's got has to be has to be yeah we're pulling up some
uh oilers uh lineups from when nuge was first in the league oh go look up his first game that's
what we're doing that that i would like i don't know guys by the way i just while steve or jesse's
looking this up um by the way i think first off let's let's get his draft year out of the way
i'm gonna say 2009 first overall uh 2011 2011 2011 yeah all right 2011 it was a weird so name
three people on that team i'm gonna go alice hemski uh i'm gonna say andrew ference no i don't
think ference was there with the bruins wasn't he he had just won the cup with the bruins so i think
he was still there i'm gonna say i'm gonna say sam gagne all right good call i have the 19 players
that played a long so well 18 players that played alongside ryan nugent hopkins in his first career
nhl game where can we try to name some of them yes where he scored a goal oh he scored his first
game well potter mcnugent all right so list some fellas all right so i say alice hemski for sure
uh that is correct okay good there was the other guy who made five million dollars remember there
was a guy that that signed and then the calgary twitter account's like what an idiot this is a
terrible i think that was hemski who's the other guy though there was hemski and that other guy
oh i can't remember i can't remember what's what's your goal there's 18 people who are on the team
besides new get them all but but you gotta you gotta have a bar for like when you're how many
incorrects to get how many strikes uh five five five and we're done that's a lot of strikes oh
five total five total between the two of us okay yeah five total okay yeah so five and you're done
and we'll try and get all eight so because so here's one and you're not gonna get it i'm gonna
say it it's alice kotelik was he there alice kotelik uh you know what go for it no he might
have been a saber when was the 12th yakupov was the next year i'm gonna say sam gagne
Sam Gagne is correct.
Andrew Cogliano?
Andrew Cogliano is not correct.
Also, wait, Gagne.
I just assumed Gagne.
Gagne's not correct either.
Oh, no.
Okay.
Oh, damn.
No, there was.
Oh, Horkoff.
Horkoff.
Oh, Sean Horkoff is correct.
Yeah.
You got two strikes right now, and you got.
Oh, it's not going well.
Two correct.
Not going well.
Okay.
All right.
Marty Marincin.
Marty Marincin.
Marty Marincin.
no that one won't count uh why i think you got to agree with your partner there yeah that's
incorrect no and no okay who the hell was the goalie that's what i'm trying to figure out i
thought you might know that dubnick i think that's i think that's too early for even him
like i'm thinking because like devin was there i can remember this because we we were syndicated
on kiss 92.5 on 91.7 the bounce out there back in the day and the program director i said dubnick
and she's like it's Dubnik make sure if you're doing
that I know my brain
wouldn't so I he was on her show
like we couldn't do it 2015
is I think is when he was a goalie. Uh, okay
who else had they drafted Taylor
Hall must have been on that. Oh, yeah, Taylor Hall
2010 for Taylor Hall is correct. Uh
Jordan Eberle Eberle is correct
that would Ben Wapulian have been on that team
because that there was the McYak poo line
but I wasn't sure if he was there like three four years
earlier. This is like I think he might
have let's
try it. You want to try Ben Wapulian? Let's try
Benoit Pouliot.
Pouliot is incorrect.
Oh, no.
Have we named a single defenseman?
No, because they were all bad.
Like, it wasn't a great...
Those were not great years.
That might have...
No, I was going to say it might have been loophole.
I'm trying to think of other parts of the Pronger trade.
We already did...
You guys are bad at this.
Penner?
Oh, yeah.
I think Penner.
Penner?
Dustin Penner.
Dustin Penner is not correct.
You guys are done.
How ass was this team?
Jesse, what's the team?
You're done.
All right, here's the team.
Cam Barker.
Okay.
Devin Dubink, by the way, was the starting goaltender.
Oh, he was.
Did we not guess him?
No.
Adam talked to you.
I talked out of it.
Adam told the whole story about how wrong he is.
I guess he's been there for a long time.
Cam Barker.
You got Eberle.
Belong?
How do I say Eric?
Eric Belanger.
Belanger.
Belanger.
Belanger.
Eberle.
Tom Gilbert.
Gilbert.
Gilbert.
Gilbert.
from uh quebec uh taylor hall alice hemski sean horcroft uh darcy hordachuk ryan jones
anton lander nuge lenis omar magnus by rv way theo peckham i remember teddy peckman
jeff petrie before the montreal trade jeff petrie laddy schmied ladislav schmied ryan smith
Andy Sutton and Devin Dubnick.
That's a thin team.
I did not realize Ryan Smith was still there.
And Andy Sutton, the oiler.
I don't even remember that.
Man, Jeff, not a lot of guys.
That was when Jeff Petrie was good,
and the Oilers, for some reason, never valued him.
And then they traded him to Montreal.
He played 21 minutes that night.
I know.
But remember, they traded him for like a second and a fifth,
and people are like, are they idiots?
It wasn't great.
It was terrible.
He was great in Montreal.
Nuge is the only goal scorer for the Edmonton Oilers that game,
but they ended up winning 2-1.
Because I assume it went to a shootout.
I was like, wait, pardon?
So he won his first career game,
only goal scorer that game,
and they won in a shootout,
and it would have been Jordan Eberle,
who scores the success, no,
Hemsky, who scores the successful shootout goal.
Wow, Steve Sullivan was playing for Pittsburgh.
He was still playing.
James Neal was playing.
Wow.
The real deal.
I can show you the Pittsburgh lineup.
Yeah, give it to him.
go finest craig adams matt cook pascal dupuis derrick england tyler kennedy chris kunitz chris
letang mark letestu ben lovejoy steve mcintyre paul martin give me this one uh zivanik mahalik
zivanik mahalik zivanik uh james neal matt niskanen richard park jordan stall steve sullivan
joe vitale brent johnson uh matt neskinen had a moment yes oh oh for sure he had a real solid
career paul martin former prime minister joe vitale um paul martin paul martin is terrible
i remember that okay one of the best broadcasting moments ever please please please
tell people that don't know the paul martin is terrible story that's a lot that's a oldie but
a goodie from our early days so poor ray ferraro i think both of these happened in the same game
he they were late cutting his mic uh so it was a hot mic and he stayed on too long
and i want to say the first one the first one was they stayed on him too long
and he's like he's talking about dion finoff and he goes you hear his voice somebody fucking go
i don't know that might have been another game but i think it was that night
and then the paul martin one it's a leafs penguins game the camera just lingers on paul martin
and it's silence it lingers on paul martin for like a solid three to five mississippi
and out of nowhere paul martin is terrible
and poor ray i think he like ended up having to apologize but like he shouldn't have been on a
hot mic maddie if you don't don't show this on screen we can play the audio because the audio
is less than like six seconds yeah yeah uh yeah you can get away with this because it's recorded
off of tv as well we'll be fine uh here's here's the ray ferrara audio you hear it
on the air when he came to the bench and he goes somebody fucking goes
oh man and then i think the paul martin one's also in this just give it a pause
here it is hey paul martin is terrible
if we had ray on he would talk about that yeah he'd be like you guys are assholes for bringing
that yeah that was like 15 years ago what the hell 11 years ago how can you not laugh at that
if you're him how can you not find that if your name is paul martin oh yeah or d hunf enough
cares i know honestly like who cares i think somebody fucking go i would love
i would love the behind the scenes of that i would love to know too if management's like
hey listen we had a new guy in the truck and we apologize but please don't say that stuff
on mic and you never know dude like the first micing is the best first day and like he he
doesn't come from this world necessarily like this wasn't his background he was a former player who
turned into a broadcaster right who i think is one of the best in the game honestly for years when i
was at sports net i was like if i could steal one person from tsn i'd steal right and now they have
him and now they yeah sort of he's uh he's the local guy there right for vancouver uh yeah i hear
him on on west coast oh that's why i never see him anymore yeah there you go the the story was so big
at the time it made the national post oh on february 1st 2012 there's an article titled tsn
analyst pokes fun at dion funuf during leafs game and tsn actually actually had to issue a statement
they said to clarify ray's inappropriate comment did not go to air on tsn the network said in an
email response on wednesday the comment was made during a commercial break as part of a private
discussion and inadvertently picked up during an online broadcast oh regardless there you go
there's there's what happened regardless ray takes this matter very seriously and has apologized to
dion phaneuf and brian burke both have gracious graciously accepted the apology and brian like
yeah i'm sure if either of those guys were ever caught on a hot mic they'd be in jail like it's
brian burke on a hot mic is yeah brian burke on a that's my dream i'm fully aware of what i'm
saying into this microphone like no but what i was gonna say first day of broadcast school
yep don't swear in front of a mic yep don't swear in front of a mic which i obviously ignored but
like if i were on live television i wouldn't but it's you never know you don't ever know and these
guys put a ton of trust into the people who are not only in the trucks but have access to the feed
i think i've told this story before but there was a night where ron wilson when he was head
coach of the leafs lied about who the starting goalie was okay because he thought he was real
smart he pulled a lot of that crap in toronto and pierre mcguire and this never made it to air but
i was like holy shit is anyone hearing this lost his mind really why he thinks he's so friggin
smart and blood lost his mind like completely flipped and i was just like man if i was a
douchebag i could really make something out of that wow i actually don't people have done that
i don't blame him on that like that's that's just that especially ron like that that's not like one
isolated incident oh no no where where you know ron's messing around and it's the playoffs which
he never made with the leafs but no that's like that's ron that was ron being ron all the time
Well, remember his spat with Howard Berger?
Because he got...
Man, two great guys going at it.
It works.
Yeah, we're really digging deep here.
I promise we'll get to last night's game.
But no, he used a curve.
Someone had two curved of a stick,
and he called it out during the game,
and it led to a power play.
I think the Leafs might have even scored on the power play,
but they were not going to make the playoffs.
Right.
And it was written, I think, by Howard Berger,
basically like, yeah, way to go, Ron.
Like you completely wasted that.
And now everyone's going to know like, all right,
when we play against the Leafs, we got to watch that.
And Ron called him out and I'm mad at you.
Remember that?
I don't remember any of it.
You don't remember that?
I don't remember that.
These are like, here's the thing.
I want the Leafs to be different from what they currently are.
I do not want to go back to that.
Those were the dark ages.
Dark, like Adam, you're a history nut.
You know how there's sometimes you read about history
and they're like yeah there's like three or four hundred years we have no idea what happened yeah
that's 2011 i agree that's why that's why i remember that clip because it's like it becomes
oh i was born in it that's molded by it that's brief enough kessel years like that's like nine
yeah you were like oh kiss my ass you were nine we started the podcast like three years later
shut up i mean you were at least an adult when we started you were in high school
at minimum at minimum you're a bum all right that's when toronto was by the way named by
sports illustrated the worst sports city in the entire and they nailed it they did um so yeah
nooch uh was pretty good he's good at hockey uh now as of this morning we just found out that
hyman's likely out for the season after that mason marchman hit so awful he's going to have
surgery today it looks like so whatever the surgery i think they won't say what it is i
think it's a break yeah and it didn't even seem like that's a play that happens like a million
times at the playoffs like i didn't see anything where i'm like oh man that's crazy it just doesn't
take that much torque like there's do you think it's a hand or an arm i would imagine arm i think
if it was hand he'd be playing yeah if it was you know what's funny adam i don't know if you
watched my stream last night but i told the story of uh of sanger or the guy we went to school with
yeah yeah who uh played he hid a broken arm in a cast so he could play in a game and i'm like i
could see zach hyman doing that yeah just to lay hit after hit after hit last night he played what
two three shifts he still had a shot in two hits yeah and i mean just such a harmless looking play
and he's done not a harmless guy that threw it but it was a harmless oh no but like he's so he's
such a warrior and to see him as soon as i heard on the broadcast he went right down the tunnel
let me he's cooked yeah because that that's zach based in marchment being on the other end of this
is like the least surprising thing in the world yes like i that dude he's been all these playoffs
he's become one of the annoying ones you know that we look out around the league and we're like
you know that guy he's always kind of involved in these things yep um just if you guys remember
like that the the pleading to the referees earlier on when when he wanted those calls
and then and he slashes the ref and he gets away with it and then like two games later he's back
to the old same nonsense so this hit obviously it's not something that was dirty like there's
no discipline to be involved it's just unsurprising that mason marchman is involved here he gets he
He gets a lot of oops.
Remember Frank Corrado talked about, you know, get a little skin on him.
That's him just getting a little skin on Zach Hyman there.
Just getting a little piece of him.
I mean, Bouchard with that ridiculous slash on Ropey Hintz.
That's what I was going to hit.
He's like, you know, clearly the Oilers think that Hintz was faking it or embellishing it.
Well, he deserves an Academy Award because he missed a game.
And Evan Bouchard smacked him right in that same angle.
right in the same spot two-handed he it was like nearly identical maybe with less force than than
darn old nurse and you know what was interesting i i kind of wonder if there's a shift going on a
little bit at least in online hockey um very few people i saw were like he needs to be suspended
no that should have been a penalty no bad people once they hit the ice like i'm sure you know they're
all good people visits hospitals kisses babies all that stuff i'm sure but players on the ice
who become bad people when they're on the ice win the stanley cup beginning middle end sorry kids
sorry to tell you about the easter bunny sorry to tell you about santa claus um evan bouchard is
still gonna get presents uh santa watches hockey too and he cheers when players do this sort of
thing you guys who do bad things win in the playoffs craig berube st louis blues i bring
this up all the time did horrible things en route to winning a stanley cup and i think they sleep
like i don't think they give a damn the florida panthers don't give a damn like the edmonton
oilers if they win game five and the panthers win game five the oilers are in a collision course
not just for a rematch but four to seven games with legitimate sociopaths the panthers are nuts
they're out of their minds it like in any other field or profession they'd be in jail but they're
in hockey so it's cool you have to get on their level if you're gonna survive because you can't
you can't not do it you have to participate you have to you have to be a willing person like no
we won't we're better than that he did punch our goalie in the head we'll do nothing about it and
look where it got them well and then you have oliver eckman larson who's like well i'm gonna
injure a former teammate um just to sort of get us involved in the series and but he was a former
panther domi who learned from his dad is like all right i'm gonna get a piece of bark off
none of the guys who have been here forever did anything i think bouchard should have been fine
i think he's still money he should still be fine like i feel like it's so far away from the play
and it's clearly an intent to injure it's not i don't think under the definition i don't think
it's intent to injure like you know what the the definition of intent to injure should be
intent to injure yeah under under national hockey league rules it's not intent to injure but
they don't have the definition of like the the words it is an intent to hit the guy where he
was just injured it's a ridiculous thing to do when there's uh 40 tv cameras and 4k watching you
i don't think you should be allowed to do that and i think there should be the least amount of
discipline possible just be like hey guys this is kind of inappropriate just don't do this
hey this is slightly insane here's the jamie ben treatment and here's it crosses the line
because it's so far away from the play like they're just skating to the bench and you slash
a guy like if it's very wrong and slash away from the play it should be that every time yeah um but
It's not a league.
There needs to be some sort of punishment there.
I just am reading, by the way, John Shannon.
Nobody else is reporting this, but John Shannon has come out and said Hyman broken wrist.
Just sort of on that.
John's usually pretty good on that.
So now I want to I want to talk about that a little bit.
Jesse, Steve, do you remember when the Flyers lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010?
Yep.
And one of the Chicago players, and I forget who said, I'm just so glad we beat Chris Pronger.
Adam Burrish.
so what he said something along the lines of like i'm so glad we beat him because he's such a dirty
he's such an idiot and i think he said something about getting him back like like i i can't wait
to or like i'd love to punch him in the face or something like that and pronger keeping in mind
this is like right after he's lost the sand like a final like he should be devastated he got asked
about it and he goes where's that gonna happen the minors it's a good comeback burst i mean
he played he continued to play and he won a cup and you'll never be able to take that away from
him but he didn't have a very remarkable career after that sometimes life throws your curveballs
and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should
check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo
building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my

two in five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar
raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer
foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of
life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear
of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca so if if you were to pick a player that gets an adam
bursch style rant from the dallas stars for the edmonton oilers is it darnell is it evan bouchard
is it somebody else darnell nurse has been genuinely very funny to watch because after
every whistle he just stands as close as possible to his opponent looking over them because he's
taller than everyone and smiling because you know who's gonna punch darn old nurse nobody who wants
to die you're stupid yeah oh god i can't i mean listen dallas fans bless you carolina fans bless
you you know what the hockey world wants give us what we want uh i feel i think the darn old nurse
thing is it's like doubly bad because darn old nurse was not punished enough on the play that
injured hints and then hints misses a game and then bouchard comes and tries to injure him again
like we're we're compounding on a situation where the guy wasn't punished enough and then the guy
who now is hacking at the guy who is just injured and missed a game isn't going to be punished
enough every year we go through this every year we're like the league needs to come in and save
the situation and do they ever no so what you have to the nhl encourages and promotes vigilante
justice on the ice unless you are nasm cadre in which case go to jail or michael bunting or
michael bunting and you get shoved by a referee off the ice yeah our linesman sorry and i love
their statement after that which was nothing nothing it's not a league it's not even sort of
a league it's the greatest hockey players in the world greatest trophy in the world is not a league
Mike Kelly, who's a member of the NHL Network, before last game, Stuart Skinner's playoff career, goals saved above expected versus Dallas, plus 7.7, versus everyone else, negative 17.4.
Oh, my God.
After last night's game.
He's been so good.
Goals saved above expected versus Dallas, plus 9.7, and versus everyone else, again, still negative 17.4.
You could argue he's been the difference.
I mean, I think you kind of have to, don't you?
it was just dueling power plays the oilers had a better one and how does this happen guys how
does this keep happening how does this happen with this guy i don't know i think he's a good
goaltender like i think he does enough to win games and i think we've seen that enough through
these two playoff runs and he's shaky at first but when push comes to shove and you need him to show
up he does and he's able to get to that level he's also the reason though part a good part of the
reason why edmonton has gotten out of october the last two years not that this matters in like last
place like dude like it's kind of crazy right like you it's and and i would say the same same
about binnington it's like there there was something about these guys where it's like oh
now now i'm really great like look at patch ready with toronto 37 games he gets like 12 13 points
like and then he plays 13 games in the playoffs gets eight the the binnington we saw against
sweden states in the round robin and finland is the same guy who showed up for the gold medal game
get out of my face that's impossible that defies logic there's no explanation for he made at least
eight or nine saves in that friggin game that were not there at any other point in the tournament
they were all his best save one after the other after the other guys find a gear like i think
we've seen a trend in in recent years and you guys can correct me if i'm wrong but like the team that
ends up winning the stanley cup you can point to significant chunks of the year where they didn't
care the panthers post deadline were hilarious they were a middle of the pack team generously
but they were missing their best care they didn't care if they had the least advantage and we cared
toronto cared because like we don't want this unfavorable magic florida doesn't care who they
play they don't care they don't give a good gosh darn it doesn't matter if you play on the road if
you play at home they don't care now i don't know if that's necessarily the case for the oilers but
like you can't tell me the skinner who showed up in those games is the same guy showing up right
now he's so dialed he's still a bit of an adventure i think the oilers i think maybe the biggest
difference isn't skinner it's how the oilers play around him like some of those clips that we broke
down earlier this season like they're shocking yeah that's that's i think exactly the place to
go with that like it's it's not it's on Stuart Skinner like he's been playing great he's made
some fantastic saves on top of like the saves he probably wouldn't have made if it was a game one
he's the goalie you know at the end he's he's helping them win these games but Edmonton I love
that their fans have gotten behind this and McDavid has gotten behind this they play good
defense and they they've turned a page and that's all credit to Chris Knobloch on getting them to
play this way but the way they play in terms of their system where they clamp down it's not
something we've seen early on from Edmonton at all especially in the LA series but they've turned
a page somewhere in the playoffs and they play spectacular defense they make it easy on Stuart
Skinner they could like they could have got swept they could have got swept first round yes it
legitimately looked like it yep but I feel like every good team has those moments right like you
the the Florida Panthers have the they could have lost game three to Leafs and been down 3-0 if they
weren't able to come back from a three to one deficit in that game you know and the edmonton
is just another case of that where they're just able to come back and now look at the role they're
on this isn't the greatest comparison because i don't think these teams are alike but in terms
of structure of their playoff run it does remind me a bit of the 2021 montreal canadians uh now
the oilers heading into these playoffs were not the same as the 2021 montreal canadians but they
were down 3-1 they lost three out of four games the Leafs were missing John Tavares like you don't
belong you got shut out for nothing you lost 5-1 there was one tight game in there they did not
belong first period of game five you're like who are these guys and they cruised the three straight
wins forget that seven straight wins they won three straight to beat the Leafs swept the Jets
i think vegas won game one of the western conference final lmao and the habs took care
of them in five or six and it wasn't until they got to tampa in the final that they truly looked
second best but they started terribly were borderline unbeatable the rest of the way
and i mean that to me is the oilers yeah the way they've done it they they were so fragile
and and the goaltending too like there you had carrie price and you have vasilevsky but it seems
like in the last couple years we've seen goaltenders who aren't the big names that have
come through and either won or gotten to the stanley cup like aiden hill has one of the last
couple cups darcy kemper has one of the last couple cups and like stewart skinner was in it
last year and now stuart skinner is probably going to be there again skinner doesn't even
have the most wins on the oilers yep it's still have more it's six to five it's ridiculous it's
crazy and like people are like okay well if you get six or seven shutouts could he win the
consmith i'm like he's allowed two goals over his five wins yeah can you win the cons might if you
were uh benched for your bad play not if the number one and number two scores in the nhl during
the playoffs are on your team yeah it's a travesty you you brought up the phil kessel
sydney crosby thing last episode like i feel like no matter what happens i don't care if
nuge doesn't uh have a pointless game for the rest of the playoffs connor mcdavid deserves
the con smith uh-huh he is the t he's the driving engine for the team kessel needed to beat crosby
by at least five points a hundred and he didn't and and even if stewart skinner has a couple more
shutouts no he can't win it no it's connor mcdavid i would sooner give it to evan bouchard
uh than i would steward skinner i'd give it to dry sidle first i mean if i'm ranking it's
mcdavid dry i mean his opening goal too was just great yeah that little give and go well like
okay expected goals i'd love to know how expected goals treat leon dry saddle i don't expect that
goal to go in for every i think every other player in the league who's not but that area is like it's
his and his alone yes like no one does that just the most ridiculous angle like i don't even know
if kutrov is doing that i think it's almost like he developed it there because he was smart enough
to know nobody would cover you there anyway yeah who would be dumb enough to bother covering you
so i'm gonna bring out my glorified like skinny-ish goalie stick yeah and i'm just gonna
my cricket paddle he it's all timing and precision like it's almost off like the toe of his stick
yep it's so it's this he has to hit it a hundred million bajillion percent perfectly and a lot of
that is out of his control too like what if the pass is an inch off and imagine he's a young
player again right and he was largely ignored when he was younger because of connor mcdavid
he played 40 games and they sent him back to junior yes and and but imagine an nhl coach
saying uh yeah stop shooting hey stop shooting from you practice that shot i've never seen you
practice that yeah exactly and he still was like no not only am i going to do this no coach is
going to tell me not to they're going to encourage it like that is you have to remember like norms in
the nhl are really hard to break and you gotta you gotta embrace the weirdos like i the weirdos
sports are such a blessing for some reason my algorithm has decided this guy really likes
crawfish boils and also the backstory of reggie miller i don't know why those two things are
dominating but do you know about reggie miller and his sister no so his sister is older than him
and was a way better basketball player than him and the reason he got so good is because he grew
up playing against and being dominated by his sister wow there's a great story about uh he's
in the back seat of his car and he's talking about like he had 40 in a high school game and he's
feeling so good about it his sister that day in college put up 105 whoa so he's like oh i'm so
incredible i feel great about myself and his sister put up more than four more than 60 points
more than him and the reason he his shot is so weird where his wrists like click together
is because he developed it by shooting over her because that was the only way he could score
so dry sidles taking this weird shot with a weird stick and yeah there are definitely situations
throughout you know his time in germany throughout the whl throughout you know working with the
Oilers where people might have been like why are you shooting from there yeah oh I'm I would love
that's there's a question the members of the Oilers media ask him how many times was he told
not to do that and why did he continue how did he know I want to you know what we should call
his WHL coach ask him be like did he do that in junior well and like why and did you stop him
it's so fun like it it affects generations yep like i it's it hasn't quite arrived yet
but mcdavid was drafted 10 years ago yeah i know and it's going to be a generation of kids
who try to skate like conor mcdavid who try to take one-timers like leon dry saddle
who do like toe drag release through a triangle like friggin austin matthews which conor bedard
already does i complain about the nhl all the time god i love hockey it's getting better it's
i will die on the hill that it is getting better and we are for you know i wish we knew we were in
the good times while they were here you're in them you're in them if you're a hockey fan
this is such a as someone who grew up on hockey of the 90s you are in a golden age take it from me
and Leon Dreisaitl and that ridiculous skill set of his is is is evidence of that growing up uh
on Cheryl Miller and Reggie Miller Cheryl thank you Cheryl because I you wouldn't hear that story
all the time on the TNT broadcast because she also worked as a sideline reporter on TNT oh cool
jury I think the late stages of his playing career she was also doing calling those that must have
been exhausting and it was like Reggie wasn't good tonight it was the go-to story every time
is like that's how we learned basketball is from the sideline report and she was also in the i
think it was nba uh 2k 13 she was like the sideline reporter in the game for the broadcast you know
like have the third person yeah unlockable 99 overall yeah yeah so she was in that game too
so you'd always hear the reggie miller sister she taught him everything about basketball kind
of stories that's very cool and and his dad would say like don't screw with the shot everyone tried
to fix his shot now i'm not saying leon dry sidle has that but he shoots from unorthodox parts of
the ice with an unorthodox stick unorthodox release like god he's so fun to watch but
i i do want to say and this is you know streaming the games and watching them so thoroughly what's
different about the oilers that i've seen in the past is this is not connor mcdavid leon dry sidle
in their band of merry men like oh no even though they're leading the league and scoring i think
they're tied now yeah they're one two hilarious i think they're one one okay i think they have
22 a piece after dry no it's 24 23 oh okay so they both had multi-point games hilarious um
uh the depth like evander kane could have had two or three goals easily um cory perry with his
sixth of the playoffs he's 40 i got a crazy stat for you yeah this stat is mind-blowing the the
playoff game since 2000 go for it so the sharks organization 204 who played a shitload of play
and went to a stanley cup final yes the bruins organization went to a couple stanley cup finals
they've played 208 yeah three you're right three uh the lightning went three in a row they went to
i think and also five finals since 2000 and they played 218 penguins have been to three or four
finals four and they've played 219 cory perry 230 games that's unbelievable so over 10 games more
than arguably the best four teams of the last 25 years like i think we've had the discussion like
is cory perry a hall of famer uh yeah unquestionably who's had that conversation why i feel like it was
a few years ago i can't remember exactly but he certainly is now it's unquestionable conversation
in like 2015 yeah like i the dude's in i hate to rip on this guy but like when pierre turgeon went
in i was like really at cory perry like it's not even sort of close 230 games and like still a
significant producer and he was filling in if i'm not mistaken for zach hyman yes when he scored
that goal and he could he could have had two or three yeah bouchard is unbelievable you just go
down the list arvidson i thought had a great game after not playing since god knows when
and this one
the all the former leafs in the playoffs have found one game to break my heart in
and i think last night was finally casperi caponins okay you mean the overtime winner
wasn't enough for you no because those he scored one for the leafs and these you know sometimes you
score simone benoit had one for the leafs right what it's not the goals he's hitting everything
that moves and i remember saying and this was right before covid casperi you're struggling
to keep your spot in this lineup you're struggling to elevate yourself Nazem Kadri was traded this
offseason and the role of resident asshole on this team is vacant take it and he had a game
against Pittsburgh right before COVID where he had a breakaway goal he had a big hit and he fought
jared mccann and i was like asshole caponin has arrived the next game was david ayers oh
no the next game was david ayers the season shut down um and the leafs moved off him
everyone moved off him he wasn't a useful player didn't work out in st louis didn't work he was
barely working out in edmonton he go back to pittsburgh too i think he did yeah i can't
remember exactly but he barely worked out in edmonton they throw him in he scores an ot winner
and now he's hitting everything that moves sometimes it just takes you a while to figure
it out this is what he has to do to stay in the league and forget staying in the league he's
downright effective and he still has that that crazy speed that you have to be aware of yeah
and he can handle a puck too he can he can he's his decision making in toronto was terrible his
feet are still faster than his hands yes constantly would dead zone pucks like would bring it into the
offensive zone and then nothing would happen if you're gonna dead zone pucks you might as well
hit someone yes and yeah that's what he's doing now he's oh he's breaking my heart but he's finally
found it jesse are you looking up something here uh no no okay i thought you had i wasn't sure
because i wanted to talk about this okay first game of this series six three okay for the loss
for yes and since then uh not a lot of goal scoring for delos okay uh zero goals and then
one goal and then one goal so two goals since game one they had one goal heading into the third
period and then they rattled off three straight power play goals and i'm looking at this yeah
because this series could be over edmonton probably could have won game one as well oh yeah
um and i'm looking at dallas's just regular season stats and i know that's a different season but i
still think it bears repeating yeah okay 10 guys on this dallas team 10 had over 40 points this
year 10 people okay on in terms of goals um you had eight people had 20 or more holy shit
and they can't score eight is a lot leaf said six wow eight is a lot and they can't score
why can't they score for like steve you did a lot of waxing poetic on the edmonton oilers but like
last night was zero even strength goals and what it came down to is edmonton executed on the power
play and dallas i think it's just come down to their power play has gone like arctic frozen
cold they did get one they're one for eight on the power play over the last those three games
where they lost their one for eight and like you said that first game they were three for four
and dallas feasted on the power play against winnipeg like that series was won on the power
play by dallas and during this series in this little three game stretch here they've gone
completely cold and they've looked miserable on the power play they had a couple chances but like
it hasn't been the dallas power play and if that was just a little better this thing is completely
different can you bring up the penalty summary um of last night's game yeah just because i forget
exactly who they were but dallas two of their penalties were so dumb and so avoidable it was
clingberg takes that holding against dushane ben tripping against clingberg 200 feet away yeah
from his net is a horrible penalty from the captain but that's what happens when you employ
jamie bett yeah he's gonna do something stupid that gets you in trouble i whether it's cross
checking a guy in the head who's laying on the ice and then he's gonna get suspended for a game
or it's tripping 200 feet away from the play i mentioned him as a potential off-season target
in a video hours before that game and jamie said here you go stupid here's 2025 me yes you idiot
Steve but but if you got a team of guys that do it like the Panthers oh it's fine it's fine you
just gotta you gotta stock the team with more than can't just be Jamie yes and I with the one
thing I'll say for that Dallas is like they don't really do that they're not well they got Mason
Marchman who had number two I mean who has Mason Marchman who had interference against Adam Henrik
and again it was it was very similar to the pick that was called on Perry that Edmonton fans didn't
like but they're basically identical and they called them both yes um that was miles from his
own net and two offensive zone uh penalties that led to power play goals against there's the game
right there because you only got one goal that's exactly it like they you can't allow edmonton the
opportunity right now to go on the power play they they look amazing like the first goal like
we've already referenced that that give and go by dry side was spectacular and then you're allowing
cory parody to do what he does best and let's get in front of the net and do a little tip drill
so like drill they almost look more impressive on the power plays where they don't score
yeah because it lasts longer it's on it's on dallas here it's they're losing this they're
losing the special teams battle and it's sinking them it's crazy so they go home
i don't know though i don't know
i can see the winning i can't see them winning game five i can't like i wouldn't be shocked by
that and there's no hyman like that's that's a very big loss but the thing is is that this is
a leafs thing it's like oh man let's let's get mad at the goalie and meanwhile the leafs have
scored a goal right you gotta score goals well losing is a team effort yes and they're not
scoring and ottinger hasn't been sharp yeah he made a few good saves in this one
but it also could be and you said this earlier in the playoffs like okay so what's your plan
what's your plan and when you shut down connor and leon it's like what's your plan after that
because you got other people the oilers are able to create things with just overwhelming rush speed
the stars are not able to do that against the oilers they've had no luck i i keep thinking
every time i watch the others in these playoffs you imagine the change in adam henrik's life in
the last 18 months he he goes from just a bottom dwelling depressed i'm not saying the ducks are
anymore but they were depressing for a half decade i knew you know you don't gotta no ducks fans get
on me about that they're like well i'm like actually during the dallas eakins era you guys
were terrible they're not and you're also bad they're not used to being bad 100 they've been
good for a very long time they were bad for five years they were awful and by the way they got a
good goaltending thing and no disrespect to dallas eakins i'm not trying to say but like they were
intentionally what was he supposed to do and they were brutal yeah and you and you know oh man uh
cam fowler doesn't know how to play defense anymore goes to st louis leads them in scoring
uh uh simon benoit worst statistical defenseman in the league last year goes to toronto pretty
good sixth guy like oh is it just maybe you're just maybe you suck think of all the guys they
lost for nothing or close to nothing sammy vatanen yeah shea theodore in the expansion draft what
they get for him is the more hampus uh i want to say they got a first round okay that's all right
um who'd he turn into i don't know um like sam steel how did sam wasn't he a dog he was a leaf
draft pick that was yeah i know he's not a duck or sorry he's not a defenseman my point my point
is adam reek's life he's gone from playing on that franchise that was a couple years ago in just a
just a heap of nothing and now he's playing in this he's gonna probably play for the stanley
cup again this year you can be fun bad which is what the sharks were this past year fun bad or
you can be hockey looks like agony for you bad yeah i don't want to show up at the rink ducks
were that for at least two years yep yep they were brutal and here he is man yeah here he is
they're they're getting effort from everybody like matias yanmar it's like it's funny he's
a fourth liner like he's a really effective fourth third ish liner and i was like wait a sec
wasn't he like a first round like didn't someone pay a first round pick for him like
three or four years ago and they just have this crazy depth like i would look at the
oilers defense on paper sans matias echolm by the way and i would never have them as a
finals mountain team troy stetcher in 2025 okay let's see he looks great everyone who looks bad
on the oilers not anybody you don't get up three one there is no conference final looking bad yeah
With anyone.
Yeah, they're incredible.

link in the description there you

how's it feel to be the the
guy that just doesn't support Easter
seals the way he used to you know
has Steve Dangle
fallen off yeah yo people
are asking steve dangle's fall off needs to be studied uh any more to add on this series guys
all good uh then let's move on to florida and uh and carolina carolina stayed alive
and as we all kind of thought they would yeah i mean to be honest with you sitting here two days
ago i didn't i was like they were completely out of the series at and they were never in the series
florida likes a good screw around game though so you think this is on purpose you think florida
wants to take it back home to carolina and just and be like hey we let you get i will not be
fooled again they won three straights then got shut out at home and now they go back on the road
i know where i know how this ends i've seen it before you think it ends tonight
yeah probably jess do you think it ends tonight no you oh you think carolina takes another i think
i think they win again i would like some credit for uh correctly predicting how this would go
last game because I called Ajo scoring
and Carolina winning. I put
money on it. I won money.
Awesome. So I took my own advice there
and I think tonight
Carolina extends the series. Wow.
I did call Stanko and
scoring first on the stream.
Tonight, $2
Steve on Carolina. They haven't scored more than
two goals, I don't think, in this series.
So I would say 2-1. No, they got 3.
They got 3-0 last game.
Yeah, 2 empty netters. Okay.
you see paul maurice yeah i did i think he was just trolling again i i'm ignoring what he says
now what i'm done with the the second goal the gap was terrible gap uh gap no he was making fun
of the empty net yeah that's what i mean yeah i think he's trolling i'm like okay it's not
trolling he's making a joke yeah like i don't think that's true that's how well okay because
they have a joke trolling i don't know how do you want to define it oh no i was just saying
they asked him like he was saying bobroski it was fun he didn't like how he let in the last
two goals because it's empty net i thought it was funny joe it is and has he always been like this
no and by the way like when he was in toronto the people who were in the organization at the time
thought the spotlight was too big for him here and he has clearly matured and grown it's been 15 20
years uh and i look at it and i go was it was palmer is the problem or was the leafs organization
which was terrible at the time the problem no probably the leafs no we're doing this what are
we're doing this I'm bringing it up here it is Paul Maurice this is the team that got him fired
in Toronto uh-huh he had three goalies play for him that year oh god Vesa Toskala played 66 games
like he's Patrick Waugh like he's Marty Brodeur somehow had a winning record 33 25 and 6 904
save percentage this is when guys were getting like 925s yep Scott Clemonson played three games
He had an 839, and Andrew Raycroft was 2-9-5 with an utterly unusable 8-7-6.
I remember him being very pissed off when they got Basataskala
because he was like, I just set the regular season winning record for the Leafs,
and you're going to get another goalie.
Oh, cool.
Okay, well, let's go back and look at that.
I think they made the right call.
Let's go back and look at that.
He was 37-25-9.
So, yeah, you won 37 games.
You were barely over 500.
and you were frigging an 894 in that era he was a non-scoring era brutal yeah brutal
no that supposedly i don't have it in front of me obviously but those paul maurice leaf teams
were right around when they started to keep like the earliest forms of advanced advanced stats
and his leafs if i remember correctly had good ones they had good numbers their goaltending was
hot ass so so bad and then he went to winnipeg and had connor hellebuck i i told i talked about
this years ago uh it was uh when andrew berkshire and i did some stuff for sports net we looked at
paul maurice's whole career which was a long sample size at the time and we were like is he
a bad coach or he does he just get bad goalies and at that point he didn't have hellebuck he
had andre pavlik yeah and later like very shortly after we wrote that article he gets connor
hellebuck and sergey bobrovsky and wins a cup oh weird yeah it's crazy weird how that works so jess
if if carolina is going to win tonight i don't know how they do it but if they are going to win
tonight like i do i okay watching that game i don't know if you guys feel the same way i felt
like Florida had an off game I didn't think Carolina did much that much differently than
they had in the previous few games and I'm not trying to take credit away from them but I felt
like Florida was a little too relaxed coming in and they never got it going I don't think it was
Carolina was outstanding and they did great work they had one goal on the goalie it's one team
absolutely fighting for their lives and the Panthers if that's them fighting for their lives
then i don't know how it gets past tonight so that's why i'm asking jesse's like jesse's like
well i think they extend the series okay so how would they do it i saw in the first two periods
of that game carolina play a little bit more carolina hockey than we've seen that we've seen
in the playoffs and the first two rounds against new jersey and washington like they played their
type of hockey and they played it consistently for 10 games and then coming up against florida
they lost it completely and those first two periods reminded me of what they did in the
first two rounds they got a whole bunch of low and high quality shots on goal they won the shot
count and they played solid defense and that's all they want to do each time out on the ice and
it doesn't hasn't worked against this team in three games and last game with a sense of
desperation they were able to do it and they limited the shot counter on the other end for
florida and things opened up in the third when florida started to press and they got a couple
more on there but at that point carolina was at a point in the game where they could shut things
down and play defense and it's difficult to do because if you get an unlucky bounce you're
screwed but they're able to grit through to the end where they can get the empty net and get that
goal and get that win and they did score a second goal that just got taken back on a great video
review call yes um so like i see there's a little bit of hope in carolina and i think if they come
out with the same desperation it's obviously like it's so hard to predict what's gonna happen i'm
just i'm just trying to guess on how the game is gonna go but if they come out with the same type
of mentality that they had in the first two periods where they're playing their hockey and
they actually show that they can hang with florida i think they can extend extend the series and win
another game tonight so what's the ceiling on a guy like logan stankoven that's that's what i've
been trying to figure out i mean he looked dangerous all night and dallas fans if you go
back and you look oh he's unreal uh at the beginning of the season there was a rumor about
like malcolm going to the dallas stars and underneath it dallas fans were like it was like
several guys Wyatt Johnson whatever but they're like Stanko would better not be in this deal
like they love this guy and that's Malkin yeah that's Stanko it's it's like us being unreasonable
about nice and they have two yeah 100% they have two guys who are like 5'8 Jackson Blake and Logan
Stanko and they have been the most dangerous guys in this series it's it's a flag when you play like
it yes he doesn't play like it like the the reason i ask about um i ask about the ceiling for a guy
like him is because in terms of truly great little guys it's not a huge list yeah and some of the
names at the top of it are like unreasonable like like marty saint louis he's not gonna be like okay
marty saint louis theron flurry okay jonathan marches so no jonathan marches so he's not a
little guy he's just little on vegas like he's like yeah completely normal like can he be the
brin cat can he be what can he be i'd love to know like a five foot eight guy they clearly really
if if eric tolsky's taking him then i think they very clearly highly value this player like he's
they think he can be something he's got more goals i'm pretty sure he's got more goals in
the conference final than miko renton now jesse uh i sent you the the score breakdown from the
game i want to look at the second goal and on the goal visualizer okay because i was yelling at the
screen because the carolina hurricanes pulled a leaf okay let's make this about toronto for a
second okay we have to um this second goal which was an empty net goal i want you to watch what
happened oh the second goal yeah so watch what happened so they get away here they get past
florida remember this is a six on five goalie pulled i need to stop you which red team is it
it is the well it's the red team with the double circle so got it the white red team got it yeah
thank you all right so you're gonna see Svechnikov get a wide open net look at that there oh there
comes Seth Jarvis he passes Svech and Svech passes to Aho with an empty net and I just wanted to know
like if if that were the Leafs we would be making a big deal of this stop passing with an empty net
Even on the broadcast, Craig Simpson's like,
yeah, they probably shouldn't have done that.
As a Svechnikov fantasy holder, screw you, dude.
Yeah, I heard the broadcast at the time gave them shit for this.
Yes.
Yeah.
Why do players do this?
I know it was Aho that scored, but why do players do this?
You've never had galaxies and moons and suns float around your head?
I don't have the intelligence, I don't think.
No, it's, yeah, too much.
You know what?
You know how you can be a great guy today?
win the game just win the game right i don't need the puck it's fine just score just score yeah and
to be honest with you svechnikov's had an an off year in an off playoff so or an off so i think uh
i think probably he should have just scored but maybe he wants the karma i'm like i'm trying to
figure out like what do you do like honestly what are you doing there uh even jarvis could have
shot he was covered but he shot how do you play that as the coach like okay do i harsh the vibe
No, you just go over and go, listen, that was great.
Never fucking do it again.
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know how to play that.
Or do you get Aho to be like, next time, maybe don't.
Or do you just leave it?
Maybe you just leave it.
I don't know.
I don't know either.
I don't know either.
Anyway, I thought you'd find that fun.
I did.

With that series, so Jesse, you say Carolina extends it tonight.
Sure, yeah.
Freddie was great.
Sure was.
playoff ready uh and then see what do you say happens tonight i think florida takes it okay
i i think so too watch along with me it could be my last just like the last one could have been my
last uh we'll see what happens so that that's coming up and uh i want to move on to some other
things uh we found out yesterday that there are two finalists for the bruins head coaching job
marco sturm and mitch love and you know love and what's that dude love dude love what do we think
about this like i first off i feel bad for joe sacco who was put in there and it's like sorry
you can't you can't be here you can't be our coach you stink there's guy and and it's not that
it's a it's a it's not that it's a bad position like uh what was it cam neely was like oh yeah
you think we're gonna have trouble finding a head coach for this for this position well i mean jim
montgomery left he is right jim montgomery left you were in a playoff spot you fell out of the
playoff spot jim montgomery made the playoffs with the blues who were not supposed to make the
playoffs you're not gonna talk about how it ended you're not gonna be judged well it was a game
seven oh leave fan don't do that i know i give them that they lost uh you stink boo i you're
going to be judged on not joe sacco's performance but but um jim montgomery's performance that is
not an easy job to step into no matter what direction they're going no what we think about
that taking over a position like that because usually when you take over a head coaching
position it's like oh god thank god they need to get rid of that guy does but the montgomery
firing was a surprise yes does marco stern becoming the head coach of the bruins add to
the joe thornton trade tree i need to know oh yeah because they were traded for each other weren't
that trade sucked so much ass terrible trade they didn't get any picks for joe thornton set the
bruins back half a decade hot diggity dog ass it was marco sturm i think was it wayne primo
and there was a defenseman can't remember the name of the defense marco sturm wayne primo and
brad stewart brad stewart who was fine brad stewart was a good player marco stern was obviously a very
good player but like according to ai on google this trade is widely considered one of the most
lopsided in nhl history it is so damn bad it is so bad jesse um like listen stern has lots of head
coaching experience just none in the nhl he would count as a new mind though wouldn't he yeah like
we're always like trying to get new guys in there yeah and he's in his 40s yeah mitch love sort of
similar what yeah no they've got they've got similar backgrounds in terms of nhl coaching
experience because um stern was assistant coach in la for a number of years and then head coach
of the ontario rain and mitch loves assistant coach in the capitals so you're going to guys
who have no head coaching experience like i find that the most interesting part yes yes i find that
the most interesting part of the two candidates that this they've come down to because you think
in boston they want the old crusty man you know it feels like don sweeney would go with a who's
the grizzled veteran who's been around the league i played with him and he's yeah even like a jay
woodcroft type like who's at least at least did the oilers you know but they're going with two
new guys but what you're able to do with marco stern he was a bruin and he wore the yes b and
he's bruin bruin i mean boston bruin yeah it's the boston bruin and with somebody who's relatively
new at the head coaching job like they have the assistant coaching experience you have a chance
to mold them a little if you want somebody if neely and sweeney want somebody that they can
just mold into the vision that they see fit for a head coach instead of getting somebody who already
has their own ways you get somebody who now gets to conform to the boston bruins way it makes a
little more sense that you go with love or stern so you can tell them what to do like what is that
You can tell them what to do.
Exactly.
I think, honestly, there's a little part of that,
considering the two guys they're going with,
and 40 and 46 are those ages.
Those are relatively young for NHL head coaches.
Practically, what are you going to pick up?
Pick them up from kindergarten?
Drop them off at the rink?
They're basically in one of Mrs. Dangle's classes.
Yes, tiny infants.
Little tiny infants.
For NHL coach standard,
and I feel like that's because they want to have some say
over how they're coaching this team.
Cocomelon coaches.
We are at like a kind of transition period with the Bruins.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, million percent.
But my question with the Bruins is going to be,
do they feel like this is a blip?
Like Nashville blipped the other way.
They blipped into being good.
And they were like, well, now we're good.
And some teams blip into being bad,
and then they're good again.
Like, I think the New York Rangers are making the playoffs next year.
I genuinely think they're going to make the playoffs.
I think that's a safe bet.
Right?
I do.
Yeah.
You got Shisterkin in that.
You got JT Miller for a full season.
You probably get rid of Chris Kreider and make some changes or whatever.
Some injuries are hopefully fixed.
100%.
I think the Rangers are going to make the playoffs next year, right?
They blipped into being bad.
And even the Rangers a few years ago, remember when they wrote that letter to the fans?
Yes.
They were going to be bad.
And then Panarin blipped them back into being good.
And, oh, here's this Shisterkin guy.
It was like reverse propaganda.
Yes.
We're bad.
actually we're not and they we got they got us to believe they were bad so you don't think the
bruins of this year are the actual bruins you think they've blipped into being bad i wonder
what the bruins of this year think they are they what what does because what does management think
they are they were middle of the pack is what they were yeah and what happened is they lost
their entire top pair which is an elite top pair hampus lindholm and charlie mcavoy is
how many pairs in the nhl are better than that hard to find not a lot and you lost both of them
um and that's right around when they were awful they sold everything that wasn't bolted down they
got assets for justin brazo um so what do you think they're gonna lose your identity um well
yeah i think you're gonna be better by default if you're the bruins like are you on anyone's uh no
trade list i don't think so you're probably on a lot of free agent destinations um you have
the cap space you have a great reputation you're gonna have swayman in training camp this year
you're gonna have swayman in training camp which i think ruined a lot for them i think they're in
the playoffs if he's in training camp like they should be competing for a playoff spot next year
of course they should yeah so i'm just i i'm curious about okay so you bring in this coach
you can as jesse mentioned you could kind of bat him around and go this is what we want you to do
So you'll be doing that like what what would the and I know we haven't seen July 1st yet, so it's hard to know.
But like, what are the expectations here?
And, you know, what do you see if you're Bruins, if you're the Bruins as a success?
Because you can argue, OK, yes, they've got elite top pair, but you've lost Bergeron, you've lost Krejci, you've lost you've lost you've lost Chara, you've lost Marchand.
But at a certain point, you do need to kind of restock the cupboard.
And they sort of missed that opportunity when they had that 11th, 12th and 13th pick.
and could have picked three stars and they got jake debrusk out of it but he's gone
in free agency for nothing and like i i'm just what's what's coming here i don't think they've
got a ton in terms of prospects uh which is why they tried to sign mitch miller right like i i
think i'm just curious about like okay okay you make the playoffs that's great and you always
want to have a chance at the playoffs well you're you're what are you what was your highest scoring
player outside of pasternak this year adam you're not you're not doing hockey guy thing you're
really letting us down oh okay sorry what am i not doing marco sturm is from germany
and you might think well now all the german players are going to want to go to boston
right that would be a hockey guy thing to say yes no you're not going niche enough you need to go
german and former teammate when do the boston bruins hire dennis eidenberg
it's going to happen god right now he is the head coach of a u13 triple a team which puts him right
in line to be the next coach of the montreal canadians and he's also a development coach
what is happening for the islanders dennis seidenberg is going to join the bruins book
what are you trying to do here what i'm trying to do is the partner is going to join them it's
going to happen it's going to happen you watch i'm getting the band back i hate when there's
that hockey guy thing because they never actually tell you like people people will have forgotten
Dennis Seidenberg and who he played for and who he played with not in Boston not in Boston but
like you gotta you gotta say who is that guy he was pretty good next to Chara not a not a Bruins
fan listening is like who is that no I know please explain who Dennis Seidenberg I'm just I'm
interested to see what the Bruins do because I feel like yeah you you have no problem signing
any free agents to be there but like I also feel like part of the the draw of Boston was playing
with marchand like it seems as weird as that is to say like he was past is great but what i'm
saying is like for the locker room thing i know i know what adam's talking about like the culture
of marchand is like a gravitational pull that just wraps around him and you see the guys in
florida talking about it like he's been there for a couple months and paul maurice just every
press conference is a love fest about brad marchand and being on the bruins sickening
there was that dynamic and then when he became captain it's even cooler because then he's
actually the guy and now that he's gone i think it there's a little bruinsness that left with
marshan no bergeron no chara like it's been a big culture it's a new era yeah yeah if i assume
he does not want to play there but if mitch marner wanted to play in boston he would fit well in
their lineup he would why wouldn't he want to play there do you think a little bit uh there's a lot
media in oh yes but looking looking at what i'm sure the bruins reached out he needs to have
another right winger on his team who makes over 11 million dollars that's it's like part it's
baked into the pot that would literally be the same winning strategy here we go but looking at
their team between pasta and castellic marner would go perfectly right in there he sure would
did you just pasta and castellic i don't think those two have ever been spoken about together
They're teammates.
What are you talking about?
They're not the same as what I'm talking about.
Have you ever heard of Pastelik?
Obviously.
Pastelik.
Oh, my God.
That might have to be the title of the episode.
Jesse, why are you trying to give Fabian Lysel a bad time here?
If they're starting game one of Fabian Lysel as their second line right winger,
it might be a long season for Boston.
Mitch Marner to go perfectly in Lysol's spot there.
Middlestat was a low-key, interesting pickup for them,
but they cannot, cannot start with Lindholm as their one team.
You see, Middlestat's a Bruin?
Yeah.
Man, I forgot about that.
Yeah, right?
Middlestat's also, he's had a lot of trouble.
No.
No, Middlestat went to, how did that happen?
Colorado traded him.
To Boston?
Did they trade him?
For Coyle?
It might have been the Coyle.
Yeah, it was Coyle.
Man, I forgot.
oh i totally forgot that happened by the way charlie quill might be the best trade asset
in boston bruins history they got him for a third and they got casey middlestead back it was a third
and i want to say early career ryan donato oh my who's good now but like back then he was guy i
don't think casey middlestead's that good he's not bad as a 3c though do you hate him as a 3c
yeah he's better as a 3c but i think a lot of the avalanche have looked at uh casey middlestead
and be like oh he's going to solve some problems here
and the year and a half of experiment didn't work
he's the one guy from Buffalo
who left and didn't get better
you know what Casey Middlestead is
whatever the Bruins trade him for
well you know it's going to happen
that's mean it's going to happen
they're trading him
I think it speaks a lot to his value when it's
like Charlie Coyle and like a fifth
yeah
so I'm
very curious about the Bruins now the other thing I wanted to bring up
here uh is jeff lashall cat coach for the chicago uh blackhawks and they went through a couple of
people and offered jobs and they really wanted david carl who was university of denver yeah that
sounds right they got in the frozen four won their division that sort of thing uh he turned it down
because he probably just wants to stay there and and and it was something i talked about with jesse
actually on the on the pre-show once are we you know in in the nfl it's not out of the realm of
possibilities for an NCAA coach to be like yeah I'm not coming to your team I'd rather be in
university and I wondered if that was going to start to happen because NHL coaches while some
of them are paid quite well a lot of these colleges to spend two or three million bucks on a hockey
head coach that's nothing that's nothing for them and you can make well you can do that in the NHL
or you can just stay here in Denver with your young and David Carl's got a young family yeah
yeah the dude's also like a tease like he he never wanted to move his family to wherever he has to go
in the nhl it's gonna be chicago he was a very he's a he's a relatively young man he he's even
an infant in head coaching terms even younger than the guys are talking about tiny little baby
yeah he's thumb sucking david carl he just came out of the the womb um so like he never wanted
to go anywhere no like all of that speculation i found it i found it so like just pissing in the
wind because like he was never moving great great term yeah yeah such a fan or fart in a windstorm
i like that one too you're just a fart in a windstorm it's like that's how you make it
fart in a windstorm what if what if the windstorm catches the fart and it's just everywhere right
back in your face you just get blasted in the face hi live audience uh sport check in maple
leaf square how are you what does jeff blaschel who did not i was not a fan of him in detroit i'm
sure he's a great guy uh they they weren't a fan red wings fans weren't a fan of him in detroit
So he's now the coach of Conor Bedard.
You're not the coach of the Blackhawks right now.
You're the coach of Conor Bedard
and some of these young kids that are coming up, okay?
What is, I asked you the same question about the Bruins.
What's a measure of success for the Chicago Blackhawks?
And we have not seen the draft.
They're drafting high.
We have not seen free agency.
We know that they're interested in just about anybody
because they've got enough cap space
for just about anybody,
probably in the next two, three years.
what are we looking for here when he had his introductory press conference i was surprised
they didn't accidentally give him the one that they have reserved for connor mckenna
you know that's the mckenna jersey it's the goal of next season no you you have like listen
gavin mckenna what did i say connor connor they're all connor yeah uh gavin mckenna
connor was a good guess it was yes fair uh gavin mckenna who i talked about in whl plays
of the year which is on the sdp and youtube channel which you're watching right now um
i think it's individual success like you got to get a few more wins for sure you got to be a more
competitive team you got to play hockey that looks like it it has joy in it get connor 40
get bedard 40 goals yes can we do that or is it 40 in the face off dot or that oh man what an
improvement adam can you improve him as a number one center in this league can you put him with
wingers that have more than six goals about 60 of the way through the season can you get him 80
points can you get him 90 points can he flirt with 100 points can you turn bedard into the star that
he is he is this player but no one can do it alone in this league connor bestard oh yeah there you go
it sounds too much like bastard yeah i was just gonna say maybe that's maybe that's the play of
words maybe that's what he turns him into is connor bastard and he's the number one pest in
the league yeah oh that's what they want the number one overall pick to be a pest yeah yeah
move over matthew kachuk and brad marchand here comes connor bastard i think that i think there's
a lot of case to be made for last year coming in and doing a good job in chicago because usually
your second time as a head coach goes so much better than your first time and like i look at
that detroit roster from when he was there oh they were bad it was like 2010 to what like 20
no it wasn't until after maybe 2014 i don't know the years but like that that middle era of when
blasio was head coach like this those weren't good teams in retrospect they never made the
playoffs and i don't think a lot of that's on blasio um and with this blackhawks team
like davidson's been trying but i don't think he's built a great roster yet hopefully they make a
whole bunch of moves this off season to kind of fix what they got going but i think like if
eventually they get a better roster blasho can kind of kind of finally be judged on what kind
of coach he is because he hasn't been given a good roster and he's been given a worse one
yes let me ask you a question of red wings fans because this this might help with blackhawks fans
and their evaluation of this team i know you guys love it and it was sorry 15 to 22 he coached the
redwood oh my own yeah not a great year yeah not great the blast hawks the blast hawks see that's
better than bastard but i'm keeping it in my back pocket um with a team that is not good enough to
make the playoffs but still not completely basement worthy the islanders like the wall
and you can still win the drive like the blast hill red wings i would say with with a team like
that i think coaching decisions get scrutinized so much harder because fan bases and i and i
include myself in this delude themselves into thinking if only the coach made these decisions
that i want they'd be great they'd be good they'd be adequate they'd make the playoffs
and i'm here to tell you if blashill did everything you wanted in detroit they still
would have been bad a hundred percent a hundred percent they still would have been mid maybe they
make the playoffs once and get killed in five like maybe you squeak in a couple different lineup
changes or whatever but like what eiserman built from like when he's been around to now hasn't been
the greatest collection of dudes and especially like a net like they've never had a consistent
goaltending for blast show for all of those years there are certain gms that just don't get the net
Yeah, and we will build Chris Osgood in the aggregate.
Well, that was the point is that like Chris Osgood wasn't even the best option for his time.
No, like they were like upset when Mike Vernon retired.
Like that was that was not a good Mike Vernon was great.
He was excellent.
Also, just a great guy.
Just an A plus person.
I don't know anything about him.
Just a very friendly, happy guy.
And he was one of the last great short goalies.
They were fun.
They were fun.
They were fun.
And you missed out.
I'm going to be on about that.
Short goalies were hilarious.
Short goalies were great.
Darren Pang.
Darren Pang.
Darren Pang, hilarious.
Going on Toronto Radio saying the Leafs should trade Nylander.
Did you see that?
Oh, I sure did.
Also, I was not old enough to watch Darren Pang play a single game.
No.
In the NHL.
I just wonder with Blasio.
Okay, so the goal is, oh, get Connor Hunter.
Like, that's cool.
But, like, if the job is to get McKenna.
Right.
Well, and then here's the other thing.
Like, you look at the free agents they've signed there, right?
so like dickinson hall uh felino um they've had to overpay for all of them bertuzzi brody
bertuzzi brody bro brody what are they bro bro d um like who do you go out and get is like we
wait for the musical chairs to end you're not gonna sell mitch marner on this you're not you're
not the guy would be crazy if you could no you're not no you're not so like okay you have all this
cap space but i remember that with the leafs like oh man they'll have all this cap space to sign
brad richards and brad richards is like why the hell would i go there i'm going to new york thanks
is there is there a let's let's get silly is there a tyler bertuzzi trade there with the
leafs yeah i'd love tyler but why not i freaking love why not he does nothing for the blackhawks
yeah on account of probably what are you doing hey retain please and you retain and you get
kampf back oh yeah i'm cooking with gas all right all right we'll figure it out yeah there needs to
be other pieces i like i love tyler needs to be other pieces great he wanted to stay too he didn't
want to come here he came here and then he's like i'd like to stay that's a guy you keep and you
lost him because you have no cap space guess what the leafs have for the first time ever a bazillion
dollars a bajillion gazillion dollars yep it's probably better than some of the options you have
out there 100 i think he'd be a lot more valuable to a guy like riding shotgun with austin matthews
than he will be like imagine nize bertuzzi matthews well the leafs he can play both wings
if i'm not mistaken but like the leafs left side is just so mediocre it's not good like
mcmahon got you 20 goals but i don't think he he barely played in the top in an ideal situation
is mcmahon getting you 20 goals is my point no like now if you do something like nize bertuzzi
mcmahon lorenz i guess don't mind that that's okay uh yeah but you have to that contract's
expensive you do have to do yeah but uh it's fun uh okay another one i want to talk the best part
of the blackhawks roster is that they have year 13 of shea weber's 14 year deal that's
signed i did not know that the philadelphia flyers they have year 13 and 14 of that deal yeah
I don't even remember.
Where did it go?
I thought it went to Vegas for a bit.
It did.
Didn't it go to Arizona for a bit?
Yeah, it was with the Coyotes.
Yeah.
And then.
You should do a trade tree on Shea Weber's contract.
Jeez.
The total value that Weber was traded for.
Oh.
And how much actual dollars it cost.
Yes.
Like five bucks.
What are the assets that went one way or the other?
Like, that's crazy.

So Harmon Dial from The Athletic put together, he does a lot of these listicle things and
I actually really like them.
um he talked about some rfas that could be trade candidates and it seems like everybody in buffalo
is a trade candidate right now uh this guy is not mentioned oh he is mentioned on his list but two
buffalo sabers mentioned first one beau byram who was with the abs and then didn't want to play up
to the ab standards so it's like we're going to ship you to buffalo um this guy doesn't have a
contract uh he's a very good defenseman they don't need him yeah they also don't need him it was an
odd choice for buffalo to get him you have daline in power stop making one of them play the right
yeah like just what are you doing uh he also it's just not an efficient use of their money
byram also switched agents earlier this month uh he's now with cortex so i'm curious about
that guy uh and then i was more curious about jj peterka uh because jj peterka has been in
trade rumors for almost six months now and that is and it like saravali came out and said it he's
like he's not happy along with a whole bunch of other buffalo sabers with the progress or lack
thereof in buffalo and it brings me back to that do you remember the conversation we had buffalo
was in the tank kevin adams was pissed that they didn't have palm trees so jake triva wouldn't come
and the owner walks into the dress room and goes we're not doing anything the answer's in the room
jj paterka so now i think the owner has is now going to see another crop of good young players
go we're not we're just not going to come here you can't trade jj paterka under any circumstances
um that's my opinion on it i would love to know his agent's opinion on it i don't think his agent's
going to give his opinion on it that's for sure yeah here just that's a bit of a hot situation i
don't think alan's gonna talk about that so uh alan what's going on just just just do that have
you ever tried just asking him what's going on and he'll be like no comment yeah i do ask him
he'll just say no damn i'm not talking about it what's his peterka peeve i ask him that i don't
know but i think that's clap but you think about uh jake mccabe sam reinhardt uh everybody uh
everybody who else left lena soul mark who was actually good in buffalo uh jack eichel uh all
these guys who've gone into success afterwards if buffalo had just merely retained most of its team
think of the talent tage thompson would be surrounded with right now man man uh
and now like watch byram's gonna pop off well probably not but i don't know i don't know he
was fourth overall pick we'll see lots of injuries there you I I don't care if JJ Paterka holds his
breath and stamps his feet I'm not trading you I'm not doing it oh okay you sit out oh no the
Buffalo Sabres might be bad sit out good you're staying I'm not trading you what are they going
to trade him for that's going to be fair value there isn't an answer out there that makes sense
I'm not trading you that's my answer if I'm Kevin Adams sorry you have to stay you're you're a saber
now sorry about the draft you're a saber don't show this to Alan but he doesn't have a contract
it's a compliment of his yeah sit sit what are you going to do sign with another NHL team you can't
oh I'm gonna go to now I'm just making stuff up but no I'm not trading you there's nothing out
there that makes any sense for JJ Paterka and if the Sabres find it bless them dude you got a guy
who's like what 23 you got a guy who's early 20s 30-ish goal scorer one of the best offensive
players they have and the Sabres are trading him because why he doesn't want to be there anymore
no one wants to be here JJ sign the contract I'm not trading you that would be the most honest
honest moment of kevin adams career i am not trading you what are you getting for jj what
would you need what would you need like you need jj peterka no i find the sabers so uninteresting
oh my gosh they they don't have a roster and none of the guys are good and they don't know
how to build until kevin adams isn't the gm anymore it's just it's just it's nonsense like
they're not good at this they're not good at building a hockey team so like what's what's
the conversation jj paturka nick robertson final offer they got they got a collection of young guys
who are like oh they're kind of good and then they leave and then they go somewhere else and
they're like oh they're good players and they were in buffalo at one point and nobody wants to play
there and like i don't know they suck and they're always gonna suck if this is how they run their
organization at some point like the ownership down because the pagulas don't care about the
buffalo saber is enough to change uh general manager at some point something has to be the
final straw you trade jay uh you trade jj peterka pack up and move no like the that would have been
jack eichel like they'll still tell me that's a good trade you know what they found straw was
so many straws this the final straw was so many straws ago it's like you ever see those horrible
nature documentaries where it's just all these seagulls dying because they're choking on straws
No, I don't.
And you're like, where did they get all these straws?
That is, the Sabres are this trash island of dead seagulls.
They cannot trade this player.
And like, here, Adam, do you have a stat lineup?
Can one of you bring a stat lineup?
Who, for who?
JJ Paterka.
Because I feel like a lot of people don't know.
You have to be like a fantasy sports nerd, I think,
to be a non-Buffalo Sabre.
27 goals, 41 assists this year.
In how many games?
77, so 68 and 77.
last year 28 22 in 82 which is 50 points how old is he oh my god this is he's going into his fourth
year he is 23 are you out of your mind you know where he makes sense where any team in the league
boston german i'll kill you i'll kill you i'll kill them but he's german if kevin adams trades
jj purturka in division and it's not to the leafs i'm gonna throw palm trees at the building
you will go down and bring a palm tree i will bring a palm tree above my head i will find
super strength from rage just throw it at his friggin office window not only do you trade him
you trade him in division i hate you so the buffalo sabers don't know how to build a roster
and they lose right tell me tell me anything that's changed from the last time they were good
until now nothing that's what is that 14 years since they made the playoffs um it's been the
same story for 14 consecutive seasons very uninteresting to me yeah no i agree that's
why i'm saying don't you dare trade this player if if your option is trade him or have him sit
out you set him out sure can't trade this player you're out of your minds it doesn't make it better
though if he sits out you're still trading him no you're not well you sit him out your nhl career
is over several years your nhl career is over i think it might be anyway this is the guy that
traded jack eichel to his stanley cup no no no no no no no turkish is over oh he's playing he's
playing the hardest ball well this is the the leafs with robertson it it was like sign here
and he's like no okay well go out and find an offer sheet but turka is a great candidate for
an offer sheet i think i think you gotta thomas vanik this and match it no matter what it is do
you do a cockney anything where you offer him way more than you should for one year see this is why
peterka like i'm not totally convinced nize would sign an offer sheet i'm not totally sure we know
what evan bouchard yeah it sounds like ask alan i don't know ask alan i mean sarah volley had the
report he said he wants out i guess that sounds like a guy who would sign an offer yeah but we
have a better source yeah but alan's not gonna talk to me about i know i know no disrespect to
frank but we have a better story on this it's just he won't talk to us no not not like that
no not like that um i had forgotten about offer sheets that one is fascinating
what do you give a guy you know we've been talking about nize making like eight times 7.5
but turk has got pretty similar numbers he does pretty similar age doesn't have the one thing
with nize is that he is a unicorn in the physicality sense where peterka is a because
there aren't a lot of how big's peterka six feet tall 189 pounds okay so yeah average yeah he's not
a no what i'm saying is like uh unicorn in the sense and i don't want people to think that i
think that he's like the next gretzky i'm talking about like what he brings in terms of uh he's a
bowling ball there's not a ton of players in the league like him like a tom wilson type and that's
what type what what Montreal thought Josh Anderson could be when they signed that contract
and what he is every time he plays Toronto and nobody else yes yes you know Vegas in the playoffs
that one time yeah yeah crazy he won games by himself uh do you remember when Kevin Adams
sent a second round pick to Ottawa to get back Josh Norris for Dylan Cousins
dude um and then Dylan Cousins had like oh he's pretty good go look up what he got what he what
he traded for mcleod from edmonton what was that one wasn't it it's like a second oh no you know
what i'm thinking of so i think mcleod was savoy which is insane he's a ninth overall pick yes and
he traded a second round pick to the capitals for beck mallenstein who the capitals turned into
cole hudson it's pretty good yeah it's okay dude you're insane you you let the league pry jj
peterka from your cold dead hands yeah no he's like his hands are wide open what are you talking
about i think if he signs an offer sheet and you don't match it you still go to his house and stand
in front of the door if you're kevin adams like you did no you just starfish right in front of
the i think your expectations of what kevin adams can do and can't do are too high
pack up pack up and find something else to do if you can't keep this player
the atlanta sabers ah yo yo where else needs a team the houston sabers would would boa byram
at the houston sabers the portland sabers you can't take the team out of buffalo you need to
just you need them to have i want the sabers to leave and a new team to be in buffalo the
saratoga sabers the saber saber toga that's that's what we call it saratoga the buffalo
I was just trying to think of things that sounded nice
with Sabres. I don't even know what
state Saratoga's in.
I think it's New York. I heard it in a video game.
Oh, perfect. They wouldn't even have to go that far.
I think they need a new team, start
fresh, new ownership,
new everything. You can keep all
the parts of the roster you like with the new
guy can. It's just the Sabres,
they're so cooked. They are cooked,
man. Just so, like, I'm
hearing the life
in your body die. I'm very
uninterested in talking about the buffalo okay did you want to talk about 23 year old marco rossi 60
point season and the wild are done that's the report reports are the wild are like yeah we're
ready to move on from this guy and they have it's interesting because they have all the cap space in
the world now caprizov's gonna get a big chunk of that of course but like maybe caprizov is the
first 15 million dollar nhler um and i can see him being completely worth that but like marco rossi
young, top-six
center, and it's sort of strange.
I know he's small-ish. Streaky.
He was on the fourth
line in the
first round when they lost.
Playoff hockey is not regular
season hockey. So he'd be a great
saver.
Get him to the playoffs. You trade Marco
Rossi. Great Red Wing, maybe. You trade
J.J. Paterka for Marco Rossi. Again,
please pack your things and find
something non-hockey
to do with your life.
but the same no one's making you do this man no one's making you be an NHL executive they just
need to get there and they get Bo Byram and there's lots of teams like the Leafs who could
use a left-handed shooting puck moving scoring defenseman the Leafs can't afford to get him
you know what I'm telling you sell your house pack up your life go work on a resort and have
all the palm trees you want um if you trade this player you're out of your mind here's an
interesting one for Matthew Darsh who's taking over in the island Noah Dobson 25 years old
had a bit of an off year last year i know that because he thank god for kale mccarr because
noah dobson could have tanked my fantasy team i was very upset about how not noah dobson he was
uh yeah 70 points to 39 points yuck um but should have been on team usa yeah geez uh evolving hockey
has his next contract and again it's it's a projection let's not be too hard here at
potentially eight years 10.1 million okay so no no um but yeah does matthew darsh
resign him or do the islanders move on from him i mean not if that's the price
if that's the price you're looking at what is the compensation for that that i feel like that's
just shy of four first round picks so i think you're looking at at least two firsts a second
and a third so if someone offer sheets noah dobson you let them if that's the price
uh no you should try to keep that player that to me seems like prime candidate for a bridge deal
yeah you had an unreal season followed by a butt one and the butt one is what came before
you signed the deal bridge i'm curious about patrick was future there because
he was brought in under all this fanfare and lou lamorello's like well you know
we always knew that the second go-around was always you know that statistically he's right
second go-around coaches are the ones that usually find the most success as jesse mentioned earlier
um now with lou lamorello out but also in matthew darsh signing there as the gm and he might have
lou lamorello as a boss but he might not we don't know so confused it's a weird situation still the
islanders can't stop being the islanders doesn't matter who's in charge um i'm stopping i'm
wondering uh i'm wondering about patrick was future because that was lou's guy and you know
he has a 70 point season and then patrick waugh is now the head coach the entire season and dobson
gets shy of 40 i tell you what you fire patrick while you better do it over text
you want to fire patrick one person nope uh and the last one best of luck jesse i'm curious about
this one because you follow the rangers very closely country miller and the some of the
projections like this one's from evolving hockey at a four year uh it would be 5.9 million afp
analytics according to the athletic has six years at six million if you do a six-year deal
what do you think about Keandre Miller 23 years old uh 43 points obviously the Rangers were not
great last year but good player yeah like there's no doubt in my mind that they get this one done
I think he's an important piece of their future and what they're doing in New York and he didn't
have the greatest season last year like but I don't think any Ranger you look at and you point
out and say they were phenomenal last season I think you know what Keandre is at this point and
what he can be and going forward and i think they get that done relatively i don't know soonish but
it won't be contentious not in my eyes okay now i miss i misquoted by the way his production was
43 points in the president's trophy year last year was 27 but again everybody had a bad year
yeah they just scored less goals now chris crider is a name that came up and this is not an rfa
thing but i want to talk about chris crider for a second chris crider is a name that came up i
think it was david pegnota from the fourth period had this rumor he's the only one who has it which
screw you i had it did you have it yeah but i just made it up oh okay um at least i'm telling
you brought you brought it up uh in your video yesterday and you said maybe that makes sense
for the leafs like a project player what i'm curious about because he was really bad last
year but his back was snapped in half so not great no um if you can rebuild him if you have
the technology uh what does that deal look like are the rangers retaining because he's got three
more years at six and a half million but he had 72 or something points 75 75 39 goals two years
ago two years ago that's it like i don't think i've long advocated for this players good players
don't forget how to play hockey ufa in 27 only oh 27 oh two more years oh even better yeah i think
the rangers retain on that i don't think they get in the sun and the moon you can get more by
retaining more but i don't necessarily know if that's something they want to do if you don't
love what you see out there in the ufa market why wouldn't why wouldn't you try he the problem is
is that if you get him still at 22 goals if you get him at six and a half million though steve
no you can't he doesn't work you can't do that then you're stuck with that six and a half million
for two years the only way that makes sense is if they also like instead of maybe retaining they
take money back so to go with the leafs example i wouldn't do max domey but like will you take
david campf will you take cali yarn crook would you take both that'd be great um but why are you
so why are you so hard on cali cali yarn crook you missed 60 games last year in training camp
because you know what i'm hard on is uh over 100 career stanley cup playoff games and five goals
fair enough uh the leafs need guys who can score in the playoffs you don't you don't even sort of
and i was so bullish on him because i really loved the forecheck of his line in the ottawa series
florida shows up and it's like what are you doing here what exactly like it was the same
conversation we had with uh patch ready versus robertson to me it was never patch ready versus
robertson yarn croak played on the right wing and he was just this dude who skated around a lot
and was generally defensively okay you're telling me Nick Robertson can't occupy that spot maybe
you give up a little defensively but he can actually actually score get out of here dude
like it at two point I think it's one million figure it out okay Jess I think Chris Kreider
would be a fantastic Toronto Maple Leaf at the right number that what's the number for you
and what's what do they give up a four million dollar Chris Kreider like are you kidding me
a four million dollar guy who got you 22 goals and not much else yeah and like what is 22 what
does 22 goals cost you in the nhl the eight assists and the 22 goals is ugly but he was
injured for what i assume was all 68 games of his season the leafs aren't afraid of projects like
no he didn't have it was playing on the fourth line yeah and he didn't have a back and 22 goals
yeah and he had 22 goals and like you said steve you don't forget how to how to play hockey it's
it's a matter of can you get your body to do what you want it to do and the year before the
nearly 40 goals and the 36 assists is is i think still in there somewhere and you're what three
years removed from the 52 goal season that he had chris grinder still i think a good hockey player
is just a matter of like can he get his body up to where it should be in like a full off season off
and he he was shut down for a little bit there at the end of the the the later part of last season
And I think if there's enough time to rehab there, you got a guy who, you know, can perform in the playoffs.
It was 12 points in 16 games, his last playoff run.
It's 16 points in 20 games in the 22 run.
And even dating back to the 13-14 playoff run, he had 13 points in 15 games.
Yeah, and break Harry Price.
He has enough playoff experience.
You know what you're going to get out of him when the games matter.
And I think he'd be a pretty good fit on the Leafs.
Yeah, and you're not giving up.
I do not advocate giving up the sun and the moon for this person.
Great news.
Leafs don't have a first round pick for the next three drafts.
So you're not giving up one of those.
Yeah.
Like, can you find some sort of situation?
I mean, geez, Max Patch ready had two career ending injuries and his career kept going
and he ended up being pretty useful come playoff time.
Yeah.
I wonder about that.
I just, I don't know.
Maybe there's something there.
Okay.
And yeah, the 6.5.
No, you're not taking all that contract.
but if you're down in the four something area oh yeah or if you take money back if it's a yarn
even then yeah now because then if things go awry you're saddled with that at four something like
even if it goes even if he produces the 22.8 like i can at least deal with that yeah you know but
6.5 no no retain 1 million so it's 5.5 and you ditch yarn croak 5.5 still a lot yarn croak's
also useful he is such he's a very i struggle with him he's a very useful regular season player i
think he can get you 15 goals doesn't score in the playoffs i don't want him so have him in the
press box you need somebody to get you through 82 games and it's two million bucks yeah a million
bucks yarn croak is trade protection yarn croak so i think it's insane isn't it i agree jesse i
think he's a more important leap than people give him credit for yeah i know he's too personal i'm
so playoff minded right now i'm so stuck between the the sam bennett conversation is fascinating
well because we're hearing from one end that he doesn't want to be anywhere but florida and then
and then his agent is darren ferris his agent is darren ferris his agent is darren ferris everyone
shut up it's a psyop his agent is darren ferris and then john shannon said yesterday he's going
to be it's either going to be sunrise or toronto oh stop so i don't know what to believe his agent
is darren ferris wake up wake up did darren ferris text shannon to say that i don't know
i don't know if they're connected or not but that seemed to be i mean i have listen i have heard
separately and not from darren ferris because we don't chat uh that um that i have heard that he
wants to play in drama i have heard that so you have so this guy is going to make or is asking
for 10 million bucks might win the con smith so there's the pro or is at very least a very very
very very very good playoff performer versus has never been a number one center as a professional
once in his life can't win a face name a time he was the number one center in the nhl never
can't ever not once and he's supposedly demanding 10 it's okay it's a risk yeah well you went what
what you're what part are you getting so here's here's okay well i'll ask you guys this question
and then i will wrap okay marshan apparently wants eight ish okay uh-huh so would you rather
give if you're the leafs marshan's 36 remember when pavelski signed the deal in dallas we were
like what are they freaking nuts and then we're like wow that was that worked out great um
marshan's a left wing that's pretty exciting for the leafs too okay would you give eight to
marshan over three years or a 10 million dollar whatever deal to sam bennett what's what is the
better spent money uh i'm gonna say oh they need such a culture reset i cannot believe i'm saying
this brad i say brad jesse he doesn't look like he's lost a step like i i thought maybe he did
but he was just sort of dealing with an injury he looks great is is 10 the number we gotta get
bennett it's bennett what i know that's that's the hypothetical so it's hypothetical or marsh
candidate give me bennett wow interesting give me bennett you get a lot more years out of bennett
yeah yeah i think it just makes more sense for the roster also i do think that moving to varus
to 3c is the thing that's going to solve their bottom six scoring issues i really do i really
really do yeah we don't have to do the tovaris thing again there will have plenty of opportunities
Is it enough of a culture change if Tavares sticks around?
No, we're doing it.
That's you doing it, Jesse.
That's you doing the Tavares thing,
which is a conversation we're going to have many times over the next five weeks.
