Starting point is 00:00:59 fred van vliet of the toronto raptors has unfollowed the entire team except for the raptors so the other night when we were at the raptors game yeah i came perilously close to buying a jersey and i was gonna land on fred van vliet well of course but his contract's up so i think they're it's not he has another year he's got another year after this year oh yeah but it's the nba and they don't really care that's true they don't get kevin durant this summer that i don't care if they have years left so he's been in a shooting slump like it's been it's been awful the way he's been shooting but it's i don't understand why you gotta unfollow everybody maybe in the locker room they're blaming him for shooting awfully like the team's play the
Starting point is 00:01:48 team's been injured like half the team's been out so like it's understandable that they haven't won a couple games in the last couple weeks but like i don't get this this is out of nowhere it is a bit it's a bizarre and he's like he's like super team player guy so i don't feel like it's like hey i instantly hate all of you but you know maybe maybe sometimes too like i
Starting point is 00:02:07 unfollowed like a few hundred people uh mid summer just because like i wasn't like the accounts were inactive or whatever i cleaned up so maybe he's just doing a timeline cleanse nah no i don't know i i hope he stays i hope i hope the raptors win a championship with a roster of 20 of my favorite
Starting point is 00:02:28 players that's the thing about the nba man is the teams are so damn small i hate it they are they are this guy and i want this guy and i want them to go out and get this guy well how are you gonna get that guy well you trade none of the good ones and they just give them to you because they're nice that's right and yeah yeah uh on the next on the drama report have you guys been following the cristiano ronaldo situation where he left the field early after portugal won a game so there was a celebration but he was upset with the coach about a substitution uh and uh and basically the team was still celebrating but cristiano didn't pull a toronto maple leafs and not salute he saluted the crowd he celebrated a little and he got off the field early because he
Starting point is 00:03:14 was pissed so then the coach benches him the next game and the guy that replaces him ramos gets three goals against switzerland okay yeah they play better without him better without him because he's not good anymore and then he's old yeah he's 37 and he doesn't you know obviously athletes have a hard time accepting that and then as of this morning it looks like he's been dropped from the team completely what really that's the that's the that's the scuttle boot but that doesn't mean it's For sure, it's just... Dropped from the World Cup team? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Nah. Holy. What if they win? Cow. Well, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. It's Cristiano Ronaldo.
Starting point is 00:03:53 He has not trained with Portugal's other substitutes today. I'm telling you right now, so he's going to play in Saudi Arabia. He's going to get over $200 million. He's already... A season. Yeah, a preseason. That's not confirmed yet.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Whatever. let's assume it's gonna happen speculating that yeah he hasn't said no we know he hasn't said no he's already richard and god he's got 24 abs uh you know he's led this incredible life he'll regret that forever if portugal goes on and wins the world cup you can't buy that unless you're you can't buy that they couldn't buy they couldn't buy the way past the group stage yeah they bought the tournament and then their team was shit anyway like you cannot buy that accomplishment no matter how talented you are how powerful you are how rich you are and they got a really good shot here's soccer steve with the analysis yeah he'll regret that for the rest of his well it's
Starting point is 00:04:50 a sports analysis you know it's that's the same thing like remember when the uh in the michael jordan documentary uh which i believe is the reason scotty pippen isn't talking to michael jordan anymore but they were talking about when mj wasn't there and scotty essentially seemed to quit on the team in one of the games yeah yeah and scotty didn't like that too much even though everything that was stated there was fact that happened it happened and they had to have a chat with scott to be like scott we can't do it without you so you need to you need to play you need to not quit do that that's that's why i think he'll be there like next game well if he's not training with the subs uh the coach will be like you're not yeah so he'll ride the bench that's okay i
Starting point is 00:05:28 don't know how this is gonna play out but i think he'll be there yeah okay that'd be incredible if He just walked away. Okay. We'll see. It'll be interesting. I just checked his Twitter to see if anything else. And last on the drama report, as we get started, and we'll talk about the Leafs in a second here.
Starting point is 00:05:45 The big contract in baseball today, because there have been a few, nine years, $360 million. Aaron Judge is staying with the Yankees, which as Blue Jays fans were upset about. I was hoping the Giants would get him. He grew up in Northern California. You wanted this to happen. He grew up wanting to play for the Giants.
Starting point is 00:06:03 I told my father-in-law the other day, if he wants that cottage, he's got to train Leo up with soccer or something. Yeah, not hockey, though. Yeah, no, it's not. It's crazy. Holy shit. As a hardcore hockey fan who follows the ins and outs of the sport, I cannot believe what athletes in other sports pay. I know. So he's making $40 million a year for most of the next decade.
Starting point is 00:06:28 what was crazy to me was that verlander who's close to 40 uh got the same deal that max scherzer got was there's over 50 million a season with the mets so the mets have 100 million wrapped up in two guys who are over the age of 37 and that's a pitcher too yeah so how many games uh they what do they see jesse 25 30 as a starter yeah about that yeah go ahead jess what did you want i have the largest contracts total money in mlb history and where and judge ranks in that ranking he's gotta be like he's probably only top five yes he is top five he's top three actually the largest contracts total money in mlb history mike trout number one oh yeah 426.5 million dollars and worth it two mookie bets 365 three aaron judge 360 for francisco lindor 341 and fernando tatis
Starting point is 00:07:25 340 now the highest aav that's tatis jr right not the original tatis because i remember watching all of these contracts go to the go into the 2030s yes yes but the highest av aav sorry max scherzer is number one at 43.33 million dollars justin verlander is number two at 43.33 million dollars that they had matching deals and then aaron judge comes in at number three at 40 million per year watch me do baseball the only non-pitcher in the top five of that group yes because the other two the four or five is jacob degrom and garrett cole and jacob degrom just signed his deal too yes so uh three of the top five highest average annual contracts in the mlb history were signed in the last two weeks and uh the one the fifth one on that list garrett cole
Starting point is 00:08:16 is not what he used to be and that is because that sticky stuff is not allowed anymore which is real interesting i i think the other thing is um uh that's fascinating about that contract like i remember when uh a rod signed his 10-year 250 million dollar contract with the texas rangers and and espn espn did a full breakdown uh of what everything costs so like every time he dresses how much is that worth and they they speculated that every time he caught a ground ball it was worth 25 000 is that nuts like and you know and we're looking at a rod's contract from more than 10 years ago that was 15 15 16 years ago and it's like oh wow that's peanuts compared to what the guys are signing for today they're almost signing for double but you have to think about that in the
Starting point is 00:09:03 context of the time yeah 25 million dollars a year is what he was making people weren't making that was no they were making 10 12 in baseball but not that crazy money if i'm not mistaken the most a hockey player i feel like we've done this several times and i never remember the answer i think the most a hockey player has ever made is 17 i think that was joe sakic yeah and federov there was some weird federov offer sheet thing there but uh i wow i also think it's going to be interesting that shohei otani who can win an mvp in the batting race and also win the cy young award in the same season he's probably looking at those guys and going well i'm a combo of both like if you're shohei otani and you're you're his agent how do you possibly put an
Starting point is 00:09:49 affordable value even for the rich teams on him because he's a pitcher that's worth 25 to 30 million dollars a year and he's a hitter that's worth 25 to 30 million dollars a year plus plus affordable like if aaron that's not their responsibility yeah but i know but if aaron judge is a 40 million dollar player and he broke babe ruth's record and is the only one in my mind who has legitimately done it um the the question i would have is like if you're his agent you're asking for what 75 80 million dollars next year a year he could conceivably if he signs for 10 years he could sign a 800 million dollar contract only thing that would stop him from doing that is i i just finished playing for the angels i'd like to win that's true that's true and how much money
Starting point is 00:10:34 like when you go from i don't know 500 million to 800 million does it really matter two of like the best players ever can't make the playoffs like yeah the angels yeah pathetic uh it also is kind of a stark reminder for blue jays fans that they better get that that those uh guerrero jr and bichette locked up otherwise it's gonna be ugly it's gonna be a problem and none of those mlb contracts cross the upper echelon of uh nba contracts where steph curry's aav is 53 million dollars and he's underpaid yeah you can you can make a great argument that 53 million dollars per year is an underpayment for Steph Curry what was that stupid stat I read on the train ride home the other day from the game he's 101st in the NBA in fourth quarter minutes but first in points
Starting point is 00:11:21 that's insane just efficient devastating I that's so devastating to like like that kind of dominance is crazy i'm thinking back to it with cristiano cristiano ronaldo that deal it'll say 100 million pounds a year that it's worth right it's not 100 million dollars 100 million pounds okay because it's that weird c with the two equal signs and through it you know the pounds i always have to go what is that um but as a part of that deal there would be sponsorship dollars that would double that amount what which is why i said 200 million pounds because it's not just it's a three year deal 100 million each year and then the team would be organized and kind of like what the Leafs tried to do with Stamkos right where it's like
Starting point is 00:11:59 Canadian Tire will sign on and sponsor you Canadian Tire will give you a couple million bucks how about that stammer I know I know I know hockey's niche man it's niche it's crazy I like our little village we call Canada I do too
Starting point is 00:12:16 I do too yeah sometimes I'm like Toronto's a big city we have tall buildings Toronto is a big city yeah sure yeah we just don't have any we don't like we don't we've got you know Vancouver Montreal they're all big but it's sort of like you compare and contrast toronto vancouver montreal to la new york miami uh you know london and like it's just a little bit it's different yeah they're big in the same
Starting point is 00:12:39 way that eighth graders are big to third graders yeah yeah i used to be like i remember being in like the third grade and being like i can't imagine being 14 yeah it's like wow i bet those guys have to shave yeah crazy um according to moneypuck.com matt murray's performance on tuesday was the best of any goaltender since recording of modern statistics a 5.979 goals saved above expected according to whom moneypuck according to whom expected by whom i listen you could you can agree or you can agree that those stats are relevant or you can agree that they're not i don't really care the reality is it's like plus plus minus sometimes it's so goofy that you're like he was good he was really good he stopped a lot of goddamn pucks last night man yeah so based on
Starting point is 00:13:31 the model the leafs should have given up six goals and they gave up zero which uh i think is pretty good um i saw a team effort man i saw matt murray you know he did play out of his mind but um they blocked 27 shots i think it was yeah marner uh turned out his hands on purpose to block shots with the uh backs of his uh which is what you should do hand yeah well because he's got the special padding on it and everything sandin was out there uh doing it the hard way blocking it with his ankles and uh yeah marner with the the tim brent and lilligren was the only one using his stick on that five on three and justin hall i feel that this is a game where i feel bad for justin hall he played 26 minutes in a game where his team got a shutout and all anyone's talking
Starting point is 00:14:24 about today is that he threw the puck he's the third player to throw the puck since saturday like relax who's the who are the other two nick suzuki yeah who all anyone's talking about today is how good he is because he is and uh john gibson who's not getting the same treatment he did do that 10 seconds to go in overtime and then his team lost yeah yeah in the shootout i should say but like like listen yeah it was stupid i didn't see anyone say shit about mark giordano putting the puck over the glass which is well he was gassed though he was gassed you're not allowed to do that i know every time that happens i'm like you know you're not supposed to do that right like no but and there's another guy who's playing out of his mind like he's legitimately doing
Starting point is 00:15:11 charity work like he should get a tax receipt for both years of his contract with the leafs 800 grand he's he's worth so much more than that timothy lilligran with 26 minutes him too with 23 and a half also a career high victor mette is the one i feel bad for though because he's finally getting the opportunity to play and he's injured yo so i was talking about this last night it sounds like brody is close to coming days away he's days away so that's what they're saying who knows maybe he'll be back uh they have a game thursday i don't remember who it's against doesn't matter doesn't matter so let's say so here are their options their only two other healthy defensemen are connor timmons uh who was in the lineup and mac hollowell who they can bring back
Starting point is 00:15:59 into the lineup so in theory they could have a third pair of two right handers in connor timmons of matt callowell which would be a nice change because it used to be two lefts it's a bit of a nightmare but like they could do it the other option is they got to call up the next left-handed option but i thought that matt callowell was the buoy no i thought so too no they've gone well past that okay uh because oh they're swimming in the undertow now well oh yeah because you now you got to call up philip crawl oh wait philip crawl came back from injury a few days ago and got injured again so he's week to week the leafs next ranked left-handed defenseman under nhl contract they can call up is miko kokanen who just got to north america from finland this year he's like
Starting point is 00:16:49 21 anybody who plays the nhl games is well versed in miko kokanen he's not a bad prospect what do you know about him what do you know about him in the game he's not a bad prospect in the game that you can pick is he like a three four prospect yeah no he'll be a third he'll be your extra defenseman he'll be your seventh defenseman in potential if you uh play long enough seasons into there okay i think he's a little underrated by the fan base because like every year at the world juniors he was the leafs second most important finnish defenseman topi niamala because topi niamala who's not here yet right uh and he's he's struggling but that's a conversation for another day so if brody is days away i think you just go timmons hollowell and you let them
Starting point is 00:17:33 figure it out well i mean you've done it this much you might as well and look at where you are in the standing you're doing fine yeah it's since uh brody riley and muzzin went down the leaves have 13 points they've they have the top record in the nhl since those guys we got one loss yeah it's crazy it doesn't make sense it's it doesn't and lilligran lilligran sandin has they've found their game like i don't know where they were at the beginning of the season or the previous parts of their career like lilligran got uh scratched for hall in the playoffs if we all remember that was just stupid justin hall didn't have a bad playoffs i like justin hall he's important on the pk too the way sandin plays man that guy i'm i don't want to retrospectively
Starting point is 00:18:17 I don't want to retroactively go back and say he should have played in the Lightning series because we saw him at the beginning of the season. He was bad. Now he's gotten good. If he continues this level of play, he's going to be a huge addition in the playoffs. He definitely fills a role
Starting point is 00:18:34 that they lack. It'd be great if Muzzin was there too, but we have a situation here. The Leafs have a situation here where the third pair should be when everybody is kind of back and excluding Muzzin because it looks like he's done for the year yeah it should be sandin and lilligran as their third pair that should be solidified there they've earned i think those two spots and that should be their third pair moving forward riley
Starting point is 00:18:55 brody uh lilligran sandin geo hall geo hall and in the meantime it should be uh brody hall right and then geo maybe geo hall and then brody timmons i guess when he comes back yeah you'd probably play brody on the left because you you have no choice and brody's brody can slip in there like he can do both very talented he's very good he can do both i i want to worry about that i want to ask what your thoughts were guys on connor timmon i know it's his first game so it's a little unfair but let's be unfair how was he i thought it was very funny and then it became less funny when he kept falling down i think that was a skate issue though because it fixed itself for the rest of the game there was a moment very late when they were protecting the shutout where he almost
Starting point is 00:19:45 mishandled it in front of the net and i screamed at the television like just right just came out of me i didn't mean for it to um all things considered it was fine you know like there it's amazing the leaves pulled that off and it's amazing the stars didn't get a goal considering there were two players in the lineup who were very obviously just trying to stay afloat timmons as the game went and as the absence of mete was felt upped his game i thought sda i wanted to see more out of i i hope he gets to play next game as well yeah because he was very obviously like okay just don't get in the way you didn't get a chance to play because half the game was on the penalty kill that too you can't play if it's on the power play of the penalty yeah and
Starting point is 00:20:33 then he's all rusty sitting on the bench in his first nhl game it wasn't fair to him at all It was super dope to see him play a few shifts with Nick Robertson. I really like that because they've been line mates at now three levels of hockey. That's cool for them. Yeah, Peterborough, Pete's, Toronto Marlies, and now the Toronto Maple Leafs. I can't believe that they weren't Sioux Greyhounds. It's unbelievable that there are Leafs playing that aren't Sioux Greyhounds. Well, it's a divide in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:20:59 So they dressed six of them. Yeah, it's insane. And plus, what's his face on the other team? Six Sioux Greyhounds last night. uh what's what's the defenseman on the stars who was a sue uh connor colin miller who i completely forgot was a star i i did i forgot too because it was dallas or sorry not dallas sabers and then it was like where did he go uh you know what i'm mad at myself for forgetting to mention in the lfr what's that um yoni hockenpah who is a pretty good defenseman and you know he he matches the
Starting point is 00:21:28 dallas stars perfectly he was in hell a little bit at times last night because of the bubble the the bubble that he was wearing he had the full and all the ncaa i'm the star player bubble all i could remember or all i could think of every time i saw him try to locate the puck is when muzzin had to wear it and he was in hell when he had to wear that thing so fret not dallas stars once he gets that off he'll be fine uh also dressing six sue greyhounds brings new meaning to the word he got that dog in him because quite literally yeah at least you got that dog right With Connor Timmons as well There was a moment who ran Matt Murray on that breakaway
Starting point is 00:22:09 Oh and he got in their face And the guy was like it was an accident The first guy back The first guy back to yell at Kiviranta For running into Matt Murray was Connor Timmons I like that because that's a guy Who's like this isn't my team Like I just got here I'm trying to show myself to the guys
Starting point is 00:22:25 I gotta show that I'm standing up for everybody I'm gonna skate really hard back And get in his face And I'm gonna stand up for the boys We call that the Nick Foligno. Yes. Yes. No, I liked it.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Shout out, Connor Timmons, for that little play. I noticed that you were in his face for a thing that was completely by accident. Listen, some games you're going to thrive. Other games you're going to survive. And the Leafs did a great job surviving. Well, 4-0 isn't bad. And they ended one person's scoring streak and extended another's. Yeah, we won the scoring streak Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:22:59 That's right. That's unreal, isn't it? Usually it goes the other way. Usually it's like, oh, that person lit the Leafs up and unfortunately the Leafs scoring streak is over. And he got it done super early. He being who? Mitch Marner.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Expected goals for whom? Yeah, expected a primary assist for whom. That's right. And it was great watching him sort of realize it because he was like celebrating the goal and then he was like, oh, hey, I also did the thing. Right, right, right, right. And the fact that they got it done early
Starting point is 00:23:26 means that they didn't have to spend the rest of the game trying to feed him pucks. Right. Which was very annoying. yes it was extraordinarily annoying i can't wait until they do it next time who do they got oh they got la la on thursday on thursday by the way uh this dallas stars team is not the two years ago going to the stanley cup team they're better and i oh they're way better i am like i'm man if i was in the west i'd be freaked out about playing them i think if and we'll get to the uh the abs injury
Starting point is 00:23:54 situation in a second but you do a you do a rematch of that series now oh baby i even fully healthy i know i know the avalanche are super deep even if they were fully like especially fully healthy they have several players i don't recognize what the apps yeah oh yeah and uh but but man i i think dallas would give them a run with the way the way they play they do still play good defense and holy shit can they score dude and like say like that very wrong back seconds is all the way back. Jamie Benn is all the way back. Jamie Benn with that nasty hit. Who did he lay out in the middle of the ice?
Starting point is 00:24:28 What year is it now? Yeah, I know. He had a nasty hit and also the what I didn't realize this at the time because I was just like, please keep the puck out of the net. During that mad flurry at the end on the five on three penalty kill
Starting point is 00:24:44 he just completely just knocks Rasmus Sandin right over. Like completely just bulls him over. Pucks nowhere near either of them and uh had murray not made that save i think you would have had an argument that it was bullshit but he made the save made all of them made all of them his 15th career and first as a leaf the third most saves in a shutout in leaf's history reimer and paul matier paul matier yeah reimer is 49 never forget that yeah he owns that record that's crazy that's that's one you can't
Starting point is 00:25:20 forget no james ryan were 49 i made an lfr for that if if i wasn't up so damn late last night i was gonna look that video up and uh yeah paul matier was uh 47 that's murray man i dude the sins right now are i think bottom five in the league bottom five or six yeah they gave up a third and a seventh this year to ditch murray and retain salary so the Leafs are going to potentially pick in like the 60s because a divisional rival gave them their new starting goalie.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Unbelievable. And retained. Yeah, yeah. Kyle, I'm sorry. I am fucking sorry. Listen, we were all right to be skeptical. I don't regret being skeptical of that. We need to stop changing history like that.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Oh, Kyle knew and so did I because I am smart like Kyle is, said person on Twitter. I think that, no, I think that they took a bet and the bet's paid off so far. it's december 7 and he's played nine games and he's played nine games and he's looked amazing in seven of them uh the first game wasn't great yeah oh yeah first game i was nervous yeah i was
Starting point is 00:26:28 nervous and then he got hurt jonah siegel couldn't have worse timing with his article on monday morning oh you see this oh it's so funny it's it's it's too early to tell about the leafs goaltending situation because last year at this time they ranked second i believe in safe percentage at the exact same moment in the season last year right and so we were all like very happy about how things are going and then six hours later the game in dallas finishes uh third most saves ever and a shutout for the leafs matt murray looks amazing i think terrible timing i think that's the article was like it was great here's what i would say that's a headline letting the rest of the article down here's here's what yeah here's what i'd say about that is that sometimes
Starting point is 00:27:09 in in in news media this is different but in sports media you might be right but it also might be the wrong time sometimes people just don't want to fucking hear it you know and it's sort of like there are times where and i've stepped in it too where i'm like i know that factually i'm correct here but nobody fucking wants to hear it man i'm sure and it's like okay all right well maybe i'll just hold back on that there's probably some penguins writer who was like the capitan trade was a disaster they should trade him he's a bum hat trick yeah yeah absolutely so we'll wrap the leaf segment there but i have a couple props for you and you can bet that coming up you can bet that with david bastel brought to you by sports interaction get in the action and make a play
Starting point is 00:27:50 19 plus please play responsibly so our boy dave's gonna be back uh on friday but in the meantime i want to talk to you about the props for today at sports interaction.com slash sdpn um this is the grand salami bet okay total goals scored in today's nhl oh okay um and and it's sort of the puck line is that away teams who gets more is it the away teams or the home teams obviously the better bet is or the better money is the away teams right they're the underdog they the underdog but would you take home teams scoring more than away teams what would you take home we're away i mean typically home teams but what that's why well the home teams are at a 163 the away teams are at a 250 okay what are the games i need to know that's that's what i'm looking and
Starting point is 00:28:41 oh baby i want the away teams okay what do we got i got i'm gonna take washington lights up philly buffalo takes it to columbus minnesota is at calgary boston's at colorado arizona's at edmonton new york's at vegas vancouver's at san jose so this is goals yeah who's going to score more homer oh boy that edmonton one might screw up the whole plan though get boston at colorado is wild because when was the last time colorado was an underdog um but arizona visiting edmonton based on that based on what you guys are saying there the over under is 44 and a half goals tonight do we go over do we go under in total goals scored in the games that's a this is a that's a big goal lineup i think one two three four five six seven games so what do we need to
Starting point is 00:29:41 average there to hit 45 uh seven times 45 divided by seven is six six point four so you need to have seven goals in most of the game so it's got to be a four three basically or a five two that's a lot of goals it's a lot of goals that's a lot of goals i think i'm gonna go under okay you're going under which oh where home oh it's less fun to say home but i'm gonna say home over under away or home oh i'm going okay so first off i am going under um and i'm going to give it to the away teams for sure i'm with you guys i'm over and away wow the way teams are going to win these games they're going to be high scoring games uh the two x factors there are boston colorado and arizona edmonton the next one's a little straightforward okay it's a mitch marner point streak prop when
Starting point is 00:30:33 will it come to an end now i know you a lot of people don't want to bet on this because it's more like hey uh i don't want to bet that it will ever end i don't want it ever to end and that's not an option by the way never is not the option uh but um the if you bet on the kings you're if you're at 275 for thursday for it to end the flames on saturday at 385 the ducks next week at 501 the rangers at 601 next week and the capitals at seven next week it's a pretty good return however if you really think he's got this if you think he's going almost like gretzky lemieux era no if you're on gretzky was 52 you're talking about the modern record which is patrick kane and i know i know i know but if you're well if you're thinking even patrick kane because he's what 20
Starting point is 00:31:18 games right now yes 20 so to equal patrick kane he would need to have a point streak and after the avalanche game on new year's eve wow so the avalanche game will pay you 26 times oh man you know what's crazy like wouldn't wouldn't you try don't you kind of wanna kings i like his odds there flames oh that one's a bit tough then ducks though i mean they did lose to the ducks right i mean the ducks are allowing goals to everybody the rangers get a goal there the rangers haven't looked great but they also play the leafs really well the caps the caps haven't looked great the lightning have yes uh the flyers have not looked great the blues are blues kyle because if he can get over the lightning hump flyers
Starting point is 00:32:10 blues coyotes at that point i'm taking the avalanche and a busted avalanche oh boy i mean i don't know i'm gonna tell you right now what is it no points in that rangers game oh get out of here favorite rangers the the rangers they're they're gonna igor's gonna come back to his old self yeah he's already getting into form he's kind of really not really but okay he's gonna get there by the 15th of december and i think he has a good game mitch marner is low scoring mitch marner doesn't get a point there's three roadblocks flames rangers lightning after that i think all bets are off the flames on saturday is really tough that's a very interesting but they're not playing great they're still off dan vlader though later very good that dan vlader
Starting point is 00:33:04 i've never heard of him um it's also just it's so hard to predict when he's not going to get a point because he looks like he will score points forever and he could get injured it's like when the jays uh traded for dave price and uh troy tulowitzki and then there was that sign in the uh in the roger setter is like we may never lose again because they had won they won like 10 15 games in a row it was ridiculous so and the best yeah it was awesome um so anyway that's it sports interaction.com sdpn check it out and dave will be back on friday one of the most unbelievable moments of the calendar year because we're getting to the point now where we're starting to plan our year-end shows uh is going to be shane wright falling three spots to number four
Starting point is 00:33:46 in the draft um from montreal a couple other teams arizona i believe was one of them passed on him yep uh i forget who the other team was the draft new jersey and my favorite team how could i forget and then uh obviously the seattle kraken picking him now the the thing that jesse and i missed and i don't know if you caught it steve when you were doing your thing for sports net but he had a kind of a stare down at the habs uh kind of at their table he denies that but it looks like a bit of a stare down either way it makes things more interesting which is why and we said it on the stream jesse uh circle the montreal kraken date that's gonna be an interesting date every time he plays them forever and ever that's what it's gonna look like what's
Starting point is 00:34:32 what on earth is better than sports nothing oh yeah there's a stare down guys there's for sure i want to believe there's a stare down because it's way better god yeah jesse's showing it right now yeah that that rules so it was extremely hard so last night shane wright gets his first goal against the seattle kraken no that would be something i'm sorry not against i guess the montreal canadians how good do you think that you know what i want to take back everything i said about the seattle krakens development plan um they did it just for the lulls they wanted him out of the lineup so that he could get his first goal against montreal and it's way funnier it's way funnier that they did it this way and hey you know what they kept
Starting point is 00:35:20 saying we have a plan we have a plan i said bullshit you do they send him down to the ahl he's incredible comes to the nhl scores his goal right away confidence back maybe yeah man like i don't expect them to score a goal every bloody game but um what they've done early returns uh is working and what a player i gotta say so part of the reason i'm skeptical about the stare down is i got to talk to him that night okay um i got to talk to a number of the top prospects and there were a few guys who were just you know naturally personable or whatever and had that natural enthusiasm some of them had a pre-existing um relationship with colby armstrong that certainly helped logan cooley stood out as a as a really good guy but um like shane wright was
Starting point is 00:36:11 like downright jovial like well he did get just get drafted right yeah but like he was he was happy he was very happy and yes i know he got drafted and everything but um you know maybe it's one of those situations where he was extremely happy to be a kraken but also there's an element of f you dude f you to the to the montreal canadians he was he was great in our interview and then he walked by a few more times he like made a funny face at us like to screw us up while we were talking about something else yeah yeah he was he looked like he was having the time of his life i just i have a difficult time imagining him being upset um well listen i like the idea that it was a revenge game. I'm glad
Starting point is 00:36:54 it came against Montreal. I'm sad that the Kraken couldn't beat the Canadiens because the Kraken should beat the Canadiens if the Kraken say they're as good as they are, especially the fans who keep yapping at us to talk about them more while you just lost to the Canadiens, guys. Come on now.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Yeah, I would like to welcome the Kraken to the NHL because you have now embraced the Leafs tradition, so stay off our turf, of uh young players scoring memorable goals that are ruined by a loss congrats i thought it was nice too that they put him in a position to succeed because when they started him on what was that game monday monday night uh it was between he was centering the line of yanni
Starting point is 00:37:37 gourd and bork strand like that's a that's a good third line there you got seattle like before uh they're running him out on the fourth line for eight minutes you know he's playing wing a little bit like it wasn't now he hey you had your conditioning still in the hl where i believe he had four goals in five games like it was not bad and you come up you get to play with borscht and yanni gore like it's not bad not at all here's here's a head start and the hockey canada we're supposed to announce the world junior training camp invites i think this week on monday and then it just didn't happen uh it'll be coming down anytime is ty voight canadian or american because he's he's like leading the ohl in certain offensive categories he's a leave
Starting point is 00:38:18 prospect that's why we care okay and he wasn't even invited so they they did have the invites already it came out yeah and uh logan mayu i think wasn't invited either and some people were surprised and that was a whole debate because he's actually he's good at hockey which doesn't surprise anyone well he's fine at hockey but like he's not so good that it's ridiculous he wasn't invited oh okay yeah fair enough so i don't i don't know what the plan is here for shane right if you don't bring him back because that originally the five game stint it was supposed to line up where hey he comes back for this one game for montreal and then now off to world junior camp but i don't know if they they keep him for a little bit and then release him to camp or if
Starting point is 00:38:58 he just goes to camp immediately i like to see what they do there because if he looks good maybe play him for a couple more games here if they have that option and don't send them away they also doubled his ice time last night most of the time he's playing five six minutes he was playing close to 12 last night which in a forward usually plays at like 16 that's not bad it's not bad it's not bad middle six forward i would say is 16 and he's not a special teams guy right so that usually jacks your numbers up you should be on the power play well it seems that way should be yeah um you gotta earn it like an old man anyway it'll be interesting to see what happens with shane right but that's really cool i did want to ask you um if you saw how much it costs to park at
Starting point is 00:39:36 climate pledge arena 70 american dollars that's right 70 bucks now apparently you could just park up the street and it's like either 20 bucks or free if you park in the neighborhood um but i just thought i mean climate pledge arena kind of makes sense they don't want you driving your car to the game this is yeah that's the thing and that's the important context they don't want you driving your car to the game and apparently i think i read somewhere with tickets there's some sort of discounted transit you can get i don't know um i don't know i like it i like it it's just a it's a crazy number that's a crazy ass i've never seen it never seen that in my life i've uh it's i've seen 45 50 i've seen like 30 bucks for jay's games and gone what um there's
Starting point is 00:40:26 this one asshole uh working at a parking garage by cbc um and there was a jays game and it's the parking garage i always parked at to go to my job and uh i go it's thirty dollars and he like without saying anything he just goes yeah if you don't like it leave oh okay all right bro and i'm like yeah cool so looks like the first hour and a half uh tonight i'm working for free yeah yeah holy shit yeah 30 but 70 though 70 american it's a big it's a big number it's like 95 bucks man yeah yeah it's a lot of money um i want to throw this out there before we get into the next subject this is from thomas drance uh he's such a boo no i'm kidding um according to dom decision's projection model the vancouver canucks playoff odds currently sit at 18 percent
Starting point is 00:41:22 their odds of finishing fifth or sixth place in the pacific sit at 77 which is wild because how far out of a playoff spot are they uh who knows i don't i don't actually have that jesse's got it i'm sure it'll come up how far out of a playoff spot they have 20 they're two points back that's dumb isn't that nuts that's dumb now the reason i bring that up is to bring this up brock besser has been in the news a lot obviously we had uh i think it was monday's game or sunday night's game where it was a hockey fight saturday it was saturday okay uh hockey fights cancer night and uh bruce boudreau almost scratched him because nobody communicated to him that it was hockey fights cancer night and people were like how doesn't he just know i can understand how an
Starting point is 00:42:05 nhl head coach wouldn't know the event that's going on at the arena yeah and it highlights what has been a chaotic season uh a bit for the canucks and i think that they have some internal communication issues that they're going to have to work out um so he did play he did score uh in that game but elliot friedman said late last week that the canucks would be willing to accept quote less so that they could have some cap flexibility and trade brock besser now there's a couple things here uh i don't know what less is less less based on what he would have gone for last year the year before or less as in less than what he is and we're not quite sure what he is anymore i think less basically means uh you can give us garbage um because we
Starting point is 00:42:52 just want to free up the cap space which was the theme of the summer um you know uh who was it columbus got basically nothing they got a pittance for oliver bryork strand yeah um but i see this guy is a younger version of him with a far higher ceiling what what happened to i guess i'm adjusting my expectations because when brock besser came into the league he was supposed to be this destroyer he was second in calder voting his rookie year to who he was a really good player uh was it matthews who won i don't know i just wonder if anybody remembers i think his rookie year was matthew yeah it was matthews there you go no no his rookie year was the next year 17 18 because he played nine games his first year but yeah the 17 18 season i don't know who won the
Starting point is 00:43:45 calder trophy that year i don't know i know there were people in vancouver uh because toronto is never far from their thoughts um who were saying barzal settled down they were saying he was better than uh matthews and then they also said the same thing about pedersen better than matthews there was lots of that so barzal won the uh 2018 calder trophy right who won the calder now he did play a full 71 games last year he had 46 points but this was a guy that you thought okay this is going to be probably a point of game player eventually but there have been a lot of injuries uh concussion issues uh back injury yeah it's that's pretty tough but i mean we the talent's there the talent is there maybe maybe all he needs is time yeah and like the best thing in the world
Starting point is 00:44:32 happened on saturday when uh dakota johnson got injured joshua joshua joshua dakota joshua ricky bob joshua dakota firsty firsty dakota south carolina uh when when mr south carolina got injured uh it was the best thing that happened for bester because he had his best game on saturday you know the vancouver it's the best race all of this is an accident all right so he has his best game on saturday and then monday night he looks good again has an assist and and this is the best of both worlds because now we have a player who's starting to pick it up again because you don't get better by not playing like the whole the whole scratching guys hey that's going to motivate them to get play better i think you need the kick in the ass and then you
Starting point is 00:45:16 also need to play and that's that's what happened with bester like he got the kick in the ass where you're gonna get scratched on hockey uh fights cancer night where we need some leeway too with just these professional athletes because they're people as well like he lost his dad in may yeah to cancer let's probably give him a little leeway starting the season where it's probably his head's not entirely in the game like losing a parent is it's devastating and i can understand where not even a year out he's still reeling he's probably not a hundred percent into his job because that's what playing hockey is for him his job and it's been a tough start to the season and now maybe that saturday little kick in the ass he's still in the lineup um he's back on
Starting point is 00:46:00 pedersen's line on monday brujo gave him a promotion after his performance on saturday and now hey if you play well we can ship you out we can get our cap space back you can go to a team maybe you can rejuvenate your career a little and then we both kind of work out this situation because it doesn't look like long-term vancouver is the solution well hey i got a wild idea if he's if he's good keep him no they don't want to that's the thing jim ruff is looking at the cast they cannot keep keeping people so this is well that's fair this is the the patrick linea conundrum from when he was with the jets where i said listen shit or get off the pot there were rumors forever it's not just the player you can't put your fan base through that it's will he or
Starting point is 00:46:46 won't he all the time if you're gonna do it do it get it over with move on with the future of your team and your lineup and your roster in your locker room let him move on don't don't have this will they won't they thing for two or three years like winnipeg did i want to know figure it out who is going to take them at six and six six five for three for this year next year in the year after a bunch of teams probably calling them up saying hey sweet in the pot we'll take the whole hit yeah and so you can't do that if you're vancouver you can't allow that to happen i think you have to sweeten the pot i think or just accept nothing you have to accept nothing and i think the reason for that is that his cap percentage is 8.1 percent of this this teams um this is a guy who
Starting point is 00:47:34 uh you know i think probably most of the best players on the canucks could use a change of scenery you know you get that feel like you know what i mean like you get that feeling like jt miller it's like are you invested here nah you're just making a pile of money and i think that and that's not because he doesn't care it's just at a certain point sometimes you're working for an organization and it goes stale and it's time to move on i'll say it's that he doesn't care well i don't know that but i if i'm bo horvat why the frig am i staying if you're trading away good players because you can't afford them well i don't think you're gonna give me a raise and we're gonna be better i can't imagine bo horvath's day i don't think so i'm sure he loves vancouver
Starting point is 00:48:08 but he is 27 years old and he's not he saw the playoffs once i think in the bubble he's bo horvath's 27 guys that cory schneider trade was nine years ago yes it was and i remember that and i'm telling you i'm telling you this is this is a guy that's gonna get a big fat contract he's a great leader he's a great scorer he's there's everything about to love about bo horvat but i think where the vancouver canucks are going you don't you cannot build around that and he probably wants to see the playoff sometime i think their goal would be to move miller and try and undo the miller contract by giving it to horvat because that's what they should have done last offseason is they gave the wrong guy the extension so i think if they're trying to finagle this cap
Starting point is 00:48:52 situation you try and move Miller and probably best and definitely Besser as well and then you give all of that money to Horvat I wanted to ask you guys this because there's certain ownership situations that are more invested than others and clearly the Canucks have you can call it so the fans that don't like the Aquilinos call it interference but ultimately if you own a team and you're paying everybody you can interfere I you can get in your own way absolutely I want to know because a lot of people have said like well why didn't they give that contract to bo horvat i wonder if bo horvat they they talked to both of them and said okay whoever accepts the number we're happier with gets the deal and i think to me that's awful way to do business it is but it
Starting point is 00:49:36 looks to me like that's what happened because honestly honestly guys in what world are you signing jt miller before you're signing bo horvat especially after last year especially with the fact that those two guys publicly do not like each other do not talk yeah like i i don't so so to me they do but i don't yeah yeah come on they didn't they're not going to each other's birthday parties like like that kind of shit makes it to the media they don't like each other i don't know so i believe that so oh i believe it no no it was verified i don't know if i believe them oh okay um but i i i wonder if the canucks went to horvath's people i don't know this but i wonder if they went to them and said here's the here's an eight over eight uh why don't you accept it
Starting point is 00:50:17 And he said, you know what? No, I'm not. I think we're going to negotiate. And they went to JT Miller's people. And maybe they were like, yeah, you know what? That sounds pretty good. Horvat's going to get it anyway. That dude trends every game.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Miller? Yeah. Oh, yeah. On Twitter from Canucks. He had a behind the back pass. Dude. It was all people were talking about. Well, but this is the thing.
Starting point is 00:50:36 By the way, did it hit its intended target, Steve? Of course not. No. This is the thing, though. JT Miller, you could have moved this offseason. But the reason we said before the season started, hey, why wouldn't they have moved jt miller is because they didn't feel like they were going to get the value that they needed to move jt miller so they signed him instead but what has now happened based
Starting point is 00:50:56 on his defensive play is that anybody looking to sign or to trade for a guy like jt miller you mean i gotta give up all these things all these pretty shiny things that i've held on to and developed and grown because you're giving up picks and prospects for a guy that plays defense like that and i gotta build a line around a guy that just doesn't give a shit that's tough you ever screw up in tetris oh and it just and that little hole sits there that's how i see the canucks cap situation a good way to put it like oh cool i have an amazing solution here and oh oh no i screwed up and oh oh no oliver eckman larson i don't know that that mckay of deal i think that mckay of deals rich it's a rich contract um tyler myers for another year
Starting point is 00:51:40 i like how how are you dedicating all of your efforts dude you dumped hammock you dumped hammock yeah you did that was a oh what a deal you can't what a deal like no so you're gonna like you you know what they always say it's sell low you're like what what i don't understand they got it they gotta sell period the canucks don't have a choice they need cap space they can't move they gotta sell something you don't win by trading good players for nothing they're not i don't why are they trying to win that's the problem with the canucks they keep trying to win short they don't have the group to win they thought with bruce brujo coming in that the team had something going they thought that second half of last year kind of confused the canucks and
Starting point is 00:52:22 thinking that they had a better chance at confuse me at winning this year and then it started this year and everyone's like oh no the last year beginning of the season the canucks was the true canucks and looking back on the miller deal it probably should have shocked us more when they made the extension with miller as opposed to like the captain of the team the younger player who probably has a brighter future we all assume they were moving on right from horvath that was my assumption they made their choice that it was going to be miller over horvath but it's a questionable decision now it's not all doom and gloom canucks fans because they had a fun a couple days yes the comeback was incredible montreal was up four nothing and then what how did it go it went five
Starting point is 00:53:07 four canucks then six five montreal canucks tie it and win it in either overtime of the shootout i can't remember six seven seven six yeah unbelievable that's dumb that's a lot of fun Can we revisit some of the comments Bo Horvath's agent made At the start of training camp Regarding the contract What's the date So the date is October 13th
Starting point is 00:53:37 Sportsnet.ca I guarantee you it's going to be nothing as fun as Mitch Marner's agent But anyway Remember that Matthew signs the contract This stinks This was Mr. Horvath's agent On Donnie and Dolly
Starting point is 00:53:51 Back on October 13th regarding Beau Horvath's contract. Love that show, by the way. I think both sides have tried, but disagreement happens, Horvath's agent Pat Moore said. I always see the best agreement always is the one they don't like and the one we don't like.
Starting point is 00:54:07 That creates an agreement, but we haven't found that level yet. Some of these things take time. It's not every single player that gets an extension. There's a disagreement, it doesn't happen. If there's not a meeting of the minds or a consensus, you can't get something done. You're always hopeful when you start out.
Starting point is 00:54:23 vancouver always told me they like bo horvat a lot and they have him under contract for this year but not beyond unfortunately it sounds like he's moving on yeah it's not a very promising outlook from the agent if you're 27 why do you want to sign a vancouver long term like what does the team offer that allows you to win a cup i still think there's something there man i still i'm holding on i still think there's something there why there's no lot i love you there's no logic to that no the captain of the team dude patterson captains move on guys kuzmenko putt coles in quinn hughes thatcher demko there's a core there you can build around kuzmenko has been amazing you know what keep telling yourself that and they'll continue to finish fifth and
Starting point is 00:55:08 sixth but all those guys he just named are the foundation of a very good team and i didn't even mention horvath or miller who are extremely good you know so what happens when you get rid of horvath miller ekman larson uh i'm gonna include in there because he's got a big fat contract tyler myers the team is not better that team so i'm still trade was a disaster i think they're still i think they still need that is a disaster it's the worst relic of the gym what's his face benning um other than louis erickson oh my god like they they traded louis erickson to get more louis erickson uh i think i think unfortunately um uh this is like okay so you have all those things because all the names you just mentioned you bring those you get rid of the other the guys
Starting point is 00:55:57 that they have at the top of that list with all the with all the money that team is not better so you still have two or three years of tooling or retooling unless you can get some value for horvat and some value for um uh jt miller and i don't think you can on jt miller's case i think you're just trading that to get the contract off i tell you what make a decision yeah be the rangers make a decision and if you pull the chute you got a real good chance of bedard yeah and or uh mitchkov or who's and wouldn't that be great wouldn't that change the whole conversation it yeah right who's the other kid there's a there's a the leo glenn leo glenn that's right the top three of this year's draft is absurd have you figured out what year his draft year is 2038
Starting point is 00:56:39 i knew you'd know 2038 um but he'd be a young pick though oh yeah because he's a june baby right right because it starts the the draft new year starts in september yeah so he'd be one of the Nick Robertson's or Simeon Drogachintsev's of the world where he'd be a late pick. It's unfortunate when his hockey playing career starts, he's going to be playing as a young kid.
Starting point is 00:57:06 A younger kid than the other September babies, you know? In house league and rep, wherever he plays. He's going to get signed to Liverpool's academy team when he's like 10. Don't worry about it. Is that what's going to happen? Soccer? Yeah. Footy? A little footy is where you go? Daddy needs a cottage. What position? In a boat.
Starting point is 00:57:22 Left back? Daddy needs a cottage. uh yeah sure that's back yeah good goalie no i just nah no i'm his dad he's weird enough to be a goalie also as we've outlined goalie is the easiest position to jump from uh the most ranks you remember you were like it's easy it's the easiest to get from the ea uh echl to the nhl yep oh there's two injuries here i go so like two injuries he could be in second division soccer yeah there you go that's how well we're that close more than likely he'll be playing div one nhl 30 that for sure he's he's a drummer he's an artist he's everything it's all those things man he's a fire let's not put too much pressure on poor leo he's a excavator driver fucking blippy he's gonna
Starting point is 00:58:15 make it a whole generation of excavator drivers absolutely and why not why not it's a good gig why not um okay let me run you through this list this is a list of the current players out for the avalanche gabriel lannis cog ouch who ir darren helm who's that ir oh valerie valerie natushkin ir oh josh manson ir oh nathan mckinnon just out guard for weeks bowen byram out evan rodriguez out arturi leckanen out nathan mckinnon tried to take a shot the other day and holy moly did it look like it hurt him now one name that i have not seen come up in a long time is charles houdon was a montreal canadians prospect who was supposed to be again better than matthews at least if you read grant mckay or whatever that guy's name is but um that was a guy that
Starting point is 00:59:12 he was i think he was late terrian era and never got the development he needed because terry and a berger van didn't like development yeah and so i'm looking at the here's here's what the lines look like for the abs today he was there josh levo new hook ranting in charles houdon and then you got that's the wait which line is that first line you're ready for the next line andrew cogliano jt comfer and logan o'connor okay that was like their fourth line in the playoffs dryden hunt ben myers and martin kaut or cout ben myers ben myers and then anton blood blood oh bleed bleed i didn't i've never heard of him i don't know i've heard of him at least cal burke and sample ranta which definitely seems like
Starting point is 01:00:01 a sample ranta definitely feels like a little bit of an nhl generating name right you could have made up those last two names and then cal burke cal burke who is that he's cal burke why asking questions. That's who he is. It's December. I badly wish it was Rampo Santa. And then on defense, Samuel Gerrard, Cale McCarroll, that's good. Taze Johnson, okay, that's good. Jacob McDonald and
Starting point is 01:00:23 Andreas Englund. Andreas Englund? Who on earth is Jacob McDonald? It's like no offense, but Avs fans, you're going to be like, hey, we drafted this guy. This guy's going to be pretty good. Listen, you have to understand, unless you're a fan of the Avalanche, I'm not going to know
Starting point is 01:00:39 your entire AHL depth. Right. Which, I mean, if you were really doing your job, wouldn't you know? Yeah, I should know. Wouldn't you know? I should know. So Jesse's pulling up these guys, HockeyDBs. I just got a good AHL number.
Starting point is 01:00:56 What, yo, who are these guys? That's wild. Yeah. That is wild. No, so I don't remember if I said this during the show or after. Or, sorry, during the show or before. like is it possible the abs missed the playoffs no cal burke by the way zero career nhl games so he looks like a university signing he is a he in the ahl he's been in the ahl for three years
Starting point is 01:01:22 and he's a half appointed game player there as a forward yeah um not that's a bad thing that's pretty good actually the ahl is pretty low scoring if they were to miss the playoffs it'd be like the lightning missing the playoffs in 2016-17 where we all respect the team and we know why they missed because absolutely everybody was hurt um and i would expect them to go right back to contending next year but holy shit yeah like this is difficult to survive man here's why they're gonna do it they're gonna make the playoffs just fine because nathan mckinnon will be back in a month and they can a month is so long from now it is but i think you'll be okay i think they'll be fine now the back end is good i mean you know you ride the shit out of that top four um their
Starting point is 01:02:12 goalies are fine yeah you got franzos and georgiev yep keep that up they're gonna have to play completely different from how we're used to them playing well they're good yeah like defensive style you mean uh i guess the entire system they're they're currently this is how good the they're still currently the second wildcard team yeah that's what i'm saying though but like they're barely holding on you got the underachieving flames behind you you got the underachieving preds behind you somehow the canucks who are ahead of the blues who have been super bad and the underachieving blues and then there's a four point gap between the blues and the sharks yeah that's where it really falls so you got a lot of teams nipping at your heels there if they can just
Starting point is 01:02:57 stay between 8th and 10th for the next, go 4 and 6 in the next 10 games, let's say there's 10 games in a month there's probably more like 13 but go 4 and 10 and you're going to be okay because McKinnon will be back and some of these other guys will be back and you'll be okay
Starting point is 01:03:13 now, throwing this out there they're one point back of Edmonton for the top wildcard spot with 3 games in hand dude, Edmonton man, Edmonton wow I, like, for hockey history, they have to win the cup.
Starting point is 01:03:34 He has to win a cup in his career. Connor McDavid, you mean? Yes, for the institution of the sport. This is the time. Like, remember, I always felt like a little bit of stress thinking about Ovechkin, like, oh my God, he's just going to retire with no cup. I remember after they lost in 2017 thinking, that's it. He blew his best chance Is he going to go somewhere else
Starting point is 01:03:59 And then of course they win it the next year But What are the Oilers going to do Man Sorry I know I made that Avalanche conversation into an Oilers conversation No I think that's fair For as much as we talk about hey hockey is not basketball
Starting point is 01:04:16 In terms of like best players in the game Can affect the game in an individual way Like they can in other sports There's a long history of the best players in the sports Having Stanley Cups he's automatic he's a cheat code honestly i i don't know jesse i know that there is that but i do feel like that's overblown yes yeah i think if you look back on the nhl the greatest players have the championships to back it up just like they do in other sports and conor mcdavid i think
Starting point is 01:04:45 we're all assuming he's going to get into that upper echelon of the 15 the top 10 greatest players to ever play in the national hockey league and a cup's got to come with that eventually it comes down to numbers like it's it's it's very funny because i'm i'm getting to a point where players began and ended their careers while i was covering hockey so i get to sound like an old man and go you know yes their numbers you know illustrate this and that and that this is the ov crosby conversation by the numbers i mean you could make an argument that ov's had a better career by watching them and knowing the context of their entire careers i would say sydney crosby has had a better career i think numerically statistically at the end of his career
Starting point is 01:05:37 mcdavid's offensive numbers will eat crosby's alive yes he's well well on pace to crush all of that crush ovechkin too not in terms of goals but in terms of total points you'll eat him alive get him a cop get him one you need one no that's the the example is perfect because you look at ovechkin and crosby and ovechkin is probably going to finish his career with more points than crosby i believe they're almost identical right now they're close they're right there one and one he's probably going to play longer but if you've lived through it you know crosby's concussion seasons you know what crosby did in the playoffs to really just drag the penguins with malkin and letang and and murray and flurry and their core there to the stanley cups and you
Starting point is 01:06:23 know how important crosby's career has been and you throw in the team canada stuff the the career that you're when you're comparing ovi and crosby it's crosby one but if you look at the raw stats in 50 years you'd be like ovechkin had so many more goals how could how dare you you needed to be there dude he's he broke the record for most road goals and he's got like at least four full seasons left that's absurd you need it you need to be there to see that and for mcdavid the raw stats are going to be there he's going to put up more numbers than anybody of this era but he needs to win something here you got to look too about what the penguins have have have endured in the playoffs like some of the teams they had to go through like back washington over and over again
Starting point is 01:07:04 yeah it's hard well yeah washington for sure but it's hard to imagine this but the philadelphia flyers used to be good and used to be scary and those teams in the you know about a decade ago with simmons and jeru and borachek and all those guys that were when they were younger and they were playing amazing hockey and simone i think that goes back to like simone gagne and some of those guys too does they were a spectacularly led and made hockey team and there's no reason that team shouldn't have won a cup that 2012 series was so it was crazy and i think jesse i think you're absolutely right you have to be there and see it i do want to see um i want to see mcdavid win a cup but this like everything needs to kind of come together for the oilers like like you can't
Starting point is 01:07:46 sit here and this is the problem that i have with the argument is um mcdavid and dry saddle are great players and great players win cups right yes we agree yes the problem is of all the great players i've seen in any sport i have rarely seen an organization do less to surround their great players with greatness or go about it in worse ways than the oilers have and and i'm talking about i'm not even just talking about the current era like the previous gm set them back three or four years like uh what's it what was his name the glasses peter shirelli terrible decisions terrible decisions i mean think about how good you like mcdavid dry saddle imagine how good mcdavid hall in his prime would have been now here's here's something like really i mean they
Starting point is 01:08:35 had 40 games together but you know what i'm talking about yeah here's here's something that could be pretty interesting we all agree jack campbell's not this bad right i don't know if i do we'll see he's not an 870 goalie we all said that about martin jones and then he turned out to Be an 870 goalie If he throws together I know it's the craziest part If he throws together like a month Of 900 goaltending
Starting point is 01:09:01 900 The Oilers are fine They go all the way up to the top of the division For the Oilers though it's also Some of the defense It's horrendous This is what I'm talking about A lot of the defensive structure needs to fix
Starting point is 01:09:16 It might be just getting better defensemen Nurse is uh he's not right he's not right i saw in that montreal game although he did have a goal and it was a really fun one and then did you see his celly no it was he just fell down oh yeah he fell down but he was like laughing at himself for falling down before he even hit the ice it was great that's good yeah i will hear the argument too about mcdavid's leadership abilities because we've we've heard enough we've read enough that some people question it in that body language stuff body language just uh in the way that he can push a team to victory and we've seen
Starting point is 01:09:53 in other sports and in hockey you know if if you're the best player on the team if you're the best player in the league you got to do a little gming yourself as well you're pushing your you're pushing upper management you're managing up i think that's an adam wilde term when you're managing up your bosses and and like if mcdavid really has this drive to get a cup you know maybe there's some onus on him to push management to get the players that he needs to win the cup in edmonton or it's on him to go to a better situation to get the players he needs to win a cup i wouldn't be surprised to that i wouldn't be surprised if he was the the first real nhl player who like you know what kawaii did when um when he left toronto he was basically
Starting point is 01:10:34 saying between toronto and la like you either of you if you want me you're gonna have to get paul george right now that worked out to be terrible and then like lebron did it lebron did it in clee and he did it obviously in miami and did it in cleveland it worked yeah and then he did he's done it in la and it's been terrible gm la gm yeah um i think i think that uh um i think jesse that's a a really good point and and perhaps um perhaps that goes back to the hockey ethos of you don't want to step out of line but at a certain point he's going to have to take control of not just the team which he takes control of the ice no one's going to say that i don't know whether connor mcdavid um gets an extra goal or two out of players because he inspires them with his
Starting point is 01:11:20 leadership or he doesn't i don't know one way or the other but what i do know is that connor mcdavid has not taken control of the franchise interesting and if he takes control of the franchise of the brand gretzky did this well gretzky did this in la he said he said get rid of luke robitaille i want yari curry i i'm honestly absolutely this is a robot i didn't get along this was a criticism of sydney crosby um i was gonna say the complete opposite well it was a criticism of him right when he was like a literal child he won right he won like three three years in right every 21 you're you you have to be a fool to not think that every big extension doesn't go through sydney crosby's ears before it happens apparently maybe to their detriment now he and latang got the
Starting point is 01:12:06 malkin deal done apparently if he reports it to be believed which is hilarious because if i remember correctly insiders called it they're like ah he'll call them and cj said that yeah yeah it's like it'll be fine uh he's like yeah people get mad and then they come back to the go you know but your point about him as a child not making those decisions and then as an adult and they win the cups he makes those those decisions i i think where a lot of this comes from with mcdavid is you know every time the oilers get scored on what do you what do you see mcdavid's face yeah the camera goes straight to sulking silence i feel bad for him though because i wouldn't be happy i'm not gonna be like great when they score on me you're not like i'm not asking him to be ted
Starting point is 01:12:48 lasso and just point at the believe sign right every time the oilers get scored on but and you know i don't know what he says in the locker room but he's he's sort of a lead by example guy if mcdavid uh walked in to ken holland's office and said i want you to do this you know that ken holland would have to do it because because what's implied in that he doesn't need to say it is or else i'd love to know how much of a hand he had in the loot sheets deal Like getting him out of town Getting him in He was a kid
Starting point is 01:13:25 I don't think he had any hand in that That was a That was a Shirely It was a lot of money Yeah I don't think so Because it was Shirely was the Boston GM
Starting point is 01:13:31 It was Shirely Absolutely No no so There's the pre-existing Relationship there With Shirely and Lucic So I just wonder And then the other one
Starting point is 01:13:40 I wonder about Is Duncan Keith Because there's a Pre-existing Hockey Canada Relationship with Ken Holland and Duncan Keith But how much of it is We need a god damn defenseman
Starting point is 01:13:48 Now man I don't think Connor McDavid's done that I honestly don't and it's not not not because like I am not criticizing him for that I understand why you're like can can I just play fucking hockey and let the managers figure this out it is their job unfortunately Connor you can't you need to go to ownership you need to go to the GM and be like okay now it all goes through me uh otherwise I'll leave because another team will do this for me I don't think he realizes the power he has or maybe he realizes it and he doesn't want to enact it
Starting point is 01:14:15 because he has that power to make these decisions he's the best player in the world he's an alien watching him play hockey is a genuine joy i wonder though guys if part of it if there was a reluctance and again we're speculating here so you don't know if there was a reluctance where he did pull a move like that it gets out the move doesn't work out and he looks like shit nah like i mean like you look at lebron lebron is not taking it for russell westbrook people are like what's wrong with you and that was lebron that was lebron's call and mcdavid needs that attitude where i don't care like i'm gonna make these decisions because i think i that's what's gonna lead me to a championship you hear the stress in our voices right like this isn't criticism of mcdavid
Starting point is 01:14:55 or the oilers it's like i don't know i'm getting to the point where like yeah for the good of the sport he's gotta win man and like he's gotta he's gotta be contending and i know last year they went to the final four and everything but this bullshit of barely holding on to a playoff spot no most seasons it's it's no good and who knows maybe they barely scrape in and then they go on a long run and they this is the year that they win right i don't know right now this discussion here we're writing the hockey hall of fame is what we're trying to do we're trying to hey 20 years from now 30 years from now when we look back on this era we need mcdavid to have a couple rings we need his name to be written on the stanley cup when people go look at the hockey hall of fame who's
Starting point is 01:15:38 the best player in the game and it's going to be a shame if somehow he doesn't get there it would be a shame if he didn't win it in toronto there's another well that's telling you there's a number of guys like i i'm sure i'm gonna get chastised for this but there are a number of guys on that like late 2000s red wings team oh who they don't they have statistically great careers i don't know about elite but because they won no question you put chris osgood Not a Hall of Famer. Pavel Datsuk? Pavel Datsuk?
Starting point is 01:16:14 Well, no, you have to put in. Oh, yeah. Had they not won, though, I think he's a guy where you might go. Oh, Steve, Pavel Datsuk? He was leading the league in scoring. No, he wasn't. He was? Well, Zetterberg, I guess.
Starting point is 01:16:27 Well, Zetterberg's another one. You wouldn't put Zetterberg in the Hall of Fame if he didn't win Cups. Well, he did. I never had to think about it. Here we go. that's dax you from 05 to 2009 had 87 87 97 97 and then only went down to 70 like that guy is he had an unbelievable run sounds great 918 points he's different because he was always in the selkie conversation okay he had a lot of individual trophies like is yuri letnan in the
Starting point is 01:16:57 hall of fame no but i don't know that yuri letnan's a hall of fame oh and there's another guy won so my issue with datsuk is that he okay first of all he became eligible for the hockey hall of fame in 2021 and the 2021 draft class was delayed because of the 2020 pandemic so then there was no draft class so then he was eligible again uh the next he's eligible now and he wasn't voted in yet and there's a case to be made for him not getting in because of the lack of individual success less than a thousand less than a thousand points less than a thousand games so this is the thing you look at his numbers and he doesn't get in on the numbers you look at his individual hardware and that helps his case but it doesn't make him a slam dunk you look at the winning
Starting point is 01:17:41 he won he won he should be in the hall of fame 100 we got yeah three selkies four bangs but then there's zetterberg who doesn't have nearly the individual hardware but they won interesting dude a bunch of those guys should be in the hall I've done enough like historical retrospective
Starting point is 01:18:14 pieces to say we don't put enough emphasis on playoff success when talking about a player's career Zetterberg's numbers are better than or just as good as that's it yeah they're the same thousand thousand games more games uh 960 points
Starting point is 01:18:33 that's who has 918 points and he got the con smith and art ross king clancy and ross you got the art ross uh 2002 2003 hockey db you liar no that's okay so hockey reference uses ar as all rookie team oh that's hilarious my bad that's hilarious so those guys i mean okay i don't want to make sense fans mad but like well daniel offenson just got in yeah paul korea got in who should paul korea was elite elite yes no elite he was dead puck era elite so you look at his numbers and they don't stand out compared to some other guys who've gotten in he played when no one scored he scored when no one scored but both guys got in without winning those that those red wings should be filling up the hall filling up the hall okay a hundred percent alfredson winning matters
Starting point is 01:19:34 alfredson's numbers are so much better than those two numbers yeah they are than datsu yeah 1 157 points it's like 150 points 1200 games yeah didn't win yeah he has the olympic gold In the 96 Calder I think the Calder Counts for 0.0002% It should count for Olympic gold counts It's hockey hall of fame not NHL hall of fame
Starting point is 01:20:00 Yes it does Zetterberg was on that team as well Buddy I'm just saying You're going to be in the stupid hall of fame I'm saying They should be though Adam are you saying they shouldn't Oh no I'm saying they should I thought he was saying they should
Starting point is 01:20:16 no no no no i'm saying i was like what are you saying borderline i'm doing the thought exercise shut up i'm doing the thought exercise of what if they never won right oh okay even so i still think i think we got so far away from the conversation i don't know why we went down i thought it was good though i want to quickly uh quick shout out to jake vorchek uh who you know that i don't know if you guys saw that interview where he said you know i want i'd like to get back but the the reality is probably not he suffered a concussion uh and it looks as though his career is done and it's a shame because um you know it is part of the game unfortunately he was having a resurgence he sure was yeah it's just another it's been a tough year for columbus
Starting point is 01:20:57 really tough year i guess if there is a positive to be gleaned from this and i don't know if there is is when a player takes too many concussions is these days they're actually shutting it down they don't just keep going right um you don't want to see them take too many concussions but you know instead of it just being oh you got your bell rung guys are taking their long-term health into account and shutting it down when they should um the last thing i want to hit before we hit the press conference is the situation that's unfolded with carrie price and the reason that we wanted to sort of uh hold on this is because it's sort of it sometimes stories are best to hold back on until they've completely unraveled right until they become the full story what i felt like we
Starting point is 01:21:51 were at on monday was part way through and uh i feel like we chase stories sometimes by covering it every single time there's a development right right and sometimes it's sometimes you hold so here's here's what you've missed if you haven't caught the whole thing uh carrie price uh put out an instagram post basically uh in favor of um uh uh i guess i don't want to say lax gun control keeping gun control as it currently is um obviously he is a registered firearms user and he does it all legally and he's a hunter and um the canadian government is looking at banning assault style firearms completely and what's happened is that they i believe that probably whoever put the list together hasn't got a great uh um a ton of expertise on what
Starting point is 01:22:41 constitutes a hunting gun versus a non-hunting gun i don't know the first i sure don't either but i don't know the first thing but there are a lot of hunters right now and a lot of people and i've got members of my family who are really upset about this because they're including um weapons in there that people who are uh registered uh and who are responsible are saying you're penalizing me for something that literally you know this this has never been a factor so that debate aside um uh here's here's what the montreal canadians put out earlier this week they said on saturday carrie price posted a statement in support of the ccfr and their uh opposition to the proposed federal gun legislation as previously stated and i will get into this in just a second
Starting point is 01:23:26 carrie was unaware of the ccfr's recent marketing campaign nor was he aware of the unfortunate timing of his statement. The Montreal Canadiens wish to express their sincere apology to any and all who were offended or upset by the discourse that has arisen in the last couple of days. Now, the apology comes after Price showed support for the Canadian Coalition of Firearms Rights, a lobby group opposed to the federal government's gun control legislation, which is known as Bill 21. Here's what he wrote. He said, I love my family. I love my country. I care for my neighbor. I am not a criminal or a threat to society. What Justin Trudeau is trying to do is unjust. i support the ccrf uh to keep my hunting tools thank you for listening to my opinion now that
Starting point is 01:24:07 was him on saturday alongside a photo of him on his instagram posting a gun um however this group the ccrf that price showed support for has been criticized for recent promotions it has run mocking the uh a coal polytechnique massacre in 1989 where 14 women were murdered and another 13 were injured during a shooting and it happened december 6th so this week in 1989 in montreal natalie provost a who survived the shooting told the cbc and this is directly from the cbc that the ccfr has used the promotion code a code poly as in poly technique uh to give uh people 10 off purchases of merchandise with the lobby group's branding now that's bad it's monstrous but here's where it gets worse okay okay a habs exec for no reason at all felt the need to directly come in
Starting point is 01:25:06 on this one and say that carrie price not only regretted the timing but also did not know about the cole poly technique shooting so okay that's interesting clarification that's not carrie price coming out and saying i didn't know about he also said he didn't know oh i'm getting to that okay so he was not aware um of the tragic events december 6th um uh in 1989 is what is what the canadian said okay um and uh it was france uh france margaret belanger uh who works for the canadians she's the president of sports and entertainment at the montreal of the montreal canadians so she came out and she said that now um uh what's been interesting is i i'm gonna pull directly from the montreal gazette here because there's a couple pieces um they said montreal canadians gary price
Starting point is 01:26:04 was not aware of the 1989 polytechnic massacre that claimed 14 lives when he posted on instagram about gun rights uh but the team apologized monday to any and all who've been offended or upset by the discourse on the eve of the anniversary right it was like the day before it's a massive deal Yeah, he would go on to state that he didn't know, Kerry would go on to state that he did not know about the École Polytechnique mass murder and again, had no clue what the promo code was in reference to. But then, here's where it gets worse. Today he flip-flopped and he said, and this is yesterday, that of course he knows about the shooting and he apologized for shedding light on this contentious subject so close to the anniversary of the murder. He said, but here's the thing, France, Margaret Ballanger said he was not aware of the tragic events. And before Carey Price finally came out and was honest here, Joel Edmondson said, when asked about if he understands the outrage his post created with some of the people and
Starting point is 01:27:04 the Polytechnique anniversary coming up, Edmondson said he didn't think Price was aware of the anniversary. Quote, none of us are really aware of what happened 30 years ago. the anniversary is fast approaching it's news to all of us to be honest but we're with carrie there was no bad intentions on his part it's just being blown out of proportion and we support him now to be fair to joel edmondson he made that comment before carrie price admitted that he knew that this thing hit this shooting and it happened and i'll say this it still doesn't make joel edmondson look good no don't they like memorialize it annually they do and i i can i can forgive
Starting point is 01:27:39 five listeners for not knowing about this but the overwhelming uh discourse that i've seen is if you're a montrealer if you've lived in montreal for a decade and a half it would be virtually impossible for you to not know about this this is and i'm getting so i'm i'm coming to that uh here's what carrie wrote on his instagram yesterday my heart and prayers are with the families of the victims of the 1999 1989 excuse me a coal polytechnic shooting i think the people in Montreal know my heart and my character know I would never intentionally cause pain to those impacted by gun violence. Despite a previous statement released, I did in fact know about the tragedy. I have been a member of the Montreal community for 15 years and I understand the weight
Starting point is 01:28:18 this day holds within the community. So not only was he aware, but he also knew the weight that it held. Now I can, I can perhaps forgive this person and we'll get into this in a second for maybe not knowing the exact date, but lying about it is where I'm going to, where I'm going to draw the line. He said, well, I have no control about the timing of the amendment to Bill C-21. I stand by my opinions. I share it. I acknowledge amplifying conversation around guns this week may have upset some of those who were impacted in 1989. And I apologize. Now, here's what this really is, guys. This is not a gun rights debate, what this story is. This story is not a hunting rights debate or a Bill C-21 debate, because there are some people that are going to be pro-gun
Starting point is 01:29:01 because they're hunters. There are some people that are going to be anti-gun people because they're not and we're not i'm not here to take a position on one way or another what's right and what's wrong that's for people who are much smarter than me i don't know the first thing about the bill i don't know anything about guns this is about the most well-known current montreal canadian lying about arguably the worst mass murder and his knowledge of it in montreal history that's what this really is so all he all carrie price had to do after that initial instagram post was come out and say i didn't know the ccrf were using promotion codes like that even though i meant what i said about hunting i did not know that they that they were poking fun at the poly
Starting point is 01:29:42 technique massacre and i apologize and i disassociate and everyone would have looked at that and said okay cool and they would have moved on yep that's that's as much as and that's what he did say on his twitter feed his twitter feed said what day though on december 5th so yeah that's true when when he tweeted about in response to everything that came what time of day did that come out that's important okay i will tell you in half a second 5 52 p.m this is the problem montreal already released the statement yeah they already said that he didn't know about it yeah so in in his in his the two tweets that he put out um on the fifth though those were the correct responses if there was not that other part where somebody said he didn't know about
Starting point is 01:30:27 Well, because he didn't reference not knowing about it in the tweets, and this probably would have been enough to just say, hey, I'm on the sides of not, I don't want the bill to happen, but he didn't reference the tragedy at all. You've got the Canadians coming out and making a statement. You've got a former teammate, because let's be honest, Carey's not on the team as a player anymore. I'm sure they're still around. They asked Marty St. Louis actually about that in the Gazette article.
Starting point is 01:30:50 He hasn't been around much this year. He said he's been around a couple of times. Okay. But what Carey Price did here, guys, was he lied. He lied. because what he did was initially okay i support this group and i support this amendment not being changed or whatever it is okay it turns out the group's problematic you can still support your own opinion but not deny that you knew about the the disaster the massacre right and when he said
Starting point is 01:31:18 he didn't know about the shootings not knowing about the shootings made him look worse yeah Because the idea that Carey Price, who is going to make close to 100 or has made over $100 million playing as a Montreal Canadian when this is all said and done, wouldn't know about that after living in Montreal for 15 years is it makes you look shockingly stupid. And once he realized what happened after he denied it, he thought, OK, well, that's made me look worse than the actual truth, which is I do know. so i'm gonna walk that statement back and and and most people assumed he knew anyway because how could you miss it and it's the habs honor it it's particularly alarming for carrie price
Starting point is 01:32:00 who's been like such an active community member as well and has a frankly sterling reputation i'm not saying carrie price is a bad guy but this was this is some of the worst pr i've ever seen good guys can make mistakes and this is it's beyond and the canadians are you here's the thing montreal all the canadians had to do was listen we're going to speak with carrie price and we'll get back to you but they didn't do that they put a statement out right away and then said and by the way he didn't know they didn't ask questions they didn't investigate i don't of the people involved in this story so far carrie price montreal canadians organization joel edmondson joel edmondson is like yeah let that wash off your back right yeah it's chaotic
Starting point is 01:32:39 right what how did the story develop what did the montreal canadians really hope to gain by doing this i don't know and and so and and listen i almost believed i almost believed for a second that that maybe i'm like i'm going through my mind i'm like what are the chances this guy doesn't know because zero because i didn't believe him right away because i thought okay if like you guys remember the story and i i feel bad for bringing this up because the player feels bad about it but jonathan bernier in toronto thought that nelson mandela was a hockey player yes i don't know if you guys remember that yeah i sure do and he here's what the quote he said he's one of the most well-known athletes in the world and did a lot to impact uh any kind of sport that he
Starting point is 01:33:20 did even playing hockey everyone knows him from the type of person that he is off the ice and on the ice but he changed a lot tremendous guy awful awful yeah and and he apologized profusely he didn't he didn't uh he didn't obfuscate he didn't project he didn't double down he said i feel like shit i wasn't educated and that was really fucking stupid but the problem here is the canadians dragged themselves into this without doing any investigation it's a terrible pr hit and every time unforced error every time unforced error perfect every time the canadians honor this going forward they even made a donation to stem which was awesome but every time they do this going forward people are going to think of this and every time they've done it before people are
Starting point is 01:34:02 going to go okay how much did you really mean it this is the this is the part that really bugs me and i think canadians fans are going to love carrie price forever and i think they ought to i don't think he's a bad guy but when people push back on hockey culture as a whole this is what they're talking about it's the the lack of awareness and i've and jesse and i we've we've had conversations with people and i think specifically in montreal about hockey people in the game with somebody who's in the game who said i can remember the conversation i'm not sure jesse can but where the person said you're you'd be hard-pressed to find a group who's less in touch with what's going on and and that that's not just the players that's management that's
Starting point is 01:34:43 everything oh that's the organization you're saying we're not not just the montreal canadians but hockey as a whole professional hockey as a whole less in touch with what's going on in the world why historical events matter the cause and causation and effect and this is the kind of stuff to me you're right complete unforced error um and really fucking stupid i can't i'm shocked at how stupid this is i have i have a reverence for the montreal canadians organization and their history i have a reverence for carrie price i have faith that they'll do right by this going forward sure like you said i don't think this will hang over the organization every year no um they'll they'll find a way to do right um but what a bizarre unforced error like just so weird like there
Starting point is 01:35:31 was no need to like you said there was a very easy path forward here people make mistakes or whatever oh that that organization sucks okay i still believe what i believe but i won't support that that doesn't seem particularly hard and it's just they kept dropping the ball over and over and over again and letting it slip through their fingers i i don't what a bizarre story like it was a long preamble and but the reason you have to do it is there are so many layers to the how strange it is okay and i'm going to tell you what happened here uh but i'm going to give you a bit of a trigger warning on this one skip the next 30 seconds 40 seconds minute uh because i think it's important for those who care what actually happened in the in the massacre as well it's
Starting point is 01:36:16 graphic in case you don't know what happened by the way in 1989 uh an anti-feminist mass shooter uh entered the school during exams 14 women were murdered he told that basically the perpetrator armed with a legally obtained ruger mini 14 semi-automatic rifle and hunting knife entered the uh it's a it was an engineering class he didn't believe that women should be in engineering he ordered uh the women to one side of the classroom and instructed the men to leave after claiming he was fighting feminism he shot all nine women in the room killing six then the shooter moved to the corridors the cafeteria and another classroom specifically targeting women for about 20 minutes he killed eight more women before ending his own life i want you to know
Starting point is 01:37:00 that i want to say that because it's important especially as canadians that you're aware of that we learned about it in civics it's one of the darkest attacks in canadian history yeah yeah i remember it but i i don't expect that everybody knows the date uh because if you'd asked me two weeks ago i wouldn't have known the exact date i just knew it was exams um but living in montreal you got to be better than that i don't think that the montreal canadians don't need to charge in and defend their their legends in the future chill out for a second and and do some investigation you got to be better than this yeah i look directly at the canadians you got to be better than this come on yeah because the the initial thing that screwed everything up was the
Starting point is 01:37:40 belanger yeah mary france marie belanger yeah that statement who's the president of group ch which is who owns the group that owns the montreal canadians like you jumped too quickly and you didn't do any investigation and you're just like okay we're gonna cover this up by saying he didn't know wrong call terrible and nobody thought oh that's oh that makes him look worse yeah he didn't know what do you mean he didn't know so anyway we'll leave it at that let's do the press conference
