Steve and Dangle still at home, but that's okay.
He's here in our hearts.
He's here in our hearts.
And you know what? I'm happy
to say that today's show will be
at least as far as I know Blackhawks free
yeah
yeah
well worth mentioning
Rocky where it should still resign
oh yeah
you know what Steve it was only an outburst
of emotion
you know what Gary you're right
I know that we should start the show with
Brad Marchand I know that we should start the show with
Marcus Foligno we could talk about
Tuka Rask we could talk about Austin Matthews and the
potential head injury there
but what i really want to start with is eric angles friend of the show eric angles here's
the headline from last night canadians management must intervene after another embarrassing loss
now intervene and do what well so this is what's interesting and i wanted to i figured it would
start a good conversation because um by the way sdp and memes just posted a picture of andrew
looking sad and the devils seven to one devils are are not a good team and i don't know why
devils fans when i tweeted that were like hey you're just mad that you haven't won cups lately
yes i am mad about that but not because of you um i i i they are they're bad they're bad team
they have injuries but they're bad but the montreal canadians losing seven to one of them
like you at least want to be able to put up a fight against the worst teams and montreal
just cannot and eric's basic point is listen montreal canadians fans don't have to watch this
they don't they don't need to watch the game to the end the only people who need to watch to the
end are jeff gorton ken hughes their staff andrew berkshire and anybody that covers the montreal
canadians right that's who needs to watch and at a certain point we're talking about playing for
pride we're talking about this is a we were talking about last episode the Montreal Canadiens
hallowed ground oh pride that's I feel like I heard someone say that before you know everyone
I just friendly reminder there's an underscore so it's steve underscore dangle when you're
sending me your apologies for getting on me a couple weeks ago when I said when does pride
come into it because there's no pride in the montreal canadians right now it's fine listen
someone's got to be in last sometimes you take a step backwards again we all agree this is a one-off
extremely unique circumstances around the montreal canadians this year they gotta intervene
they're a non-option as a product this can't happen i 100 disagree oh you oh
Why would you not want the number one overall draft pick?
And why would you not want the best odds to get that?
Because you're going to get Tim Murray'd, man.
Right now, they are playing a goaltender who is not an NHL goaltender.
Caden Premo was left in for all seven goals last night.
His save percentage on the year is an 867.
His win-loss record is 1-6-1.
He can't play in the NHL at this level right now with the team in front of him in every circumstance.
So you continue to run them out, you get more ping pong balls in the lottery, you show up to Montreal in July for the draft, you walk on stage, and you say, with the first overall pick, the Montreal Canadiens select the first overall pick, and the crowd goes wild, and you set that up, and you gotta lose every single game from here on out to guarantee yourself a great chance at that pick.
yeah but they're not games they're not games jesse they're they're they're just snuff films
good dude dating back to january 24th are very popular in some circles oh boy
listen i don't know where to go with that that is me you brought it up i tried dude
8-2 to Minnesota
5-4 to Anaheim
7-2 to Edmonton
6-3 to Columbus
7-1 to New Jersey
Come on
Come on what?
I'm sitting there as management
I'm saying keep losing
Keep losing boys
I hope you're saying it in that tenor as well
Keep losing
Yeah that's when you get excited
You're in the press box and you say boys
Let in some more goals
This isn't good for them
I just don't think this is good.
For who?
The guys who won't be here in two years?
A lot of the current Habs will be there in two years.
And they have to usher in at a certain point the next generation, right?
Even if it doesn't matter who the first overall pick this year,
we all know who it's going to be anyway.
But if Montreal happens to get it,
you still need the veterans to come in and help.
You got Nick Suzuki, who's too young to be losing like this.
I know he went to the Stanley Cup final,
But like, I don't, I think this, this actually,
because it's, it's, there's one thing to be a bad team.
And then there's a team to be,
that's just devastated and traumatized.
And that's what Montreal looks like to me when they play.
Now, here's what Eric suggested,
which I have suggested since day one,
when I saw this guy in his first opening few games.
He said, nothing could be more damaging
than the fact that the Canadians continue
to crater towards their best chance at a top pick.
Development is where the organization
has failed miserably for years, agreed.
And Gorton and Hughes declared that a top priority, for sure.
Surely they're considering it, whether it's removing Ducharme or, you know, just change up the message or systems with their younger players and sending them to Laval, which is a much healthier thing.
Even if Gorton said on the first day that Ducharme would remain through the end of the season, he has to be concerned with the coach's ability to change what's been happening.
Now, and Eric does go on to say he's been dealt a horrible hand after the, you know, but he was also dealt an extremely good.
hand and I think honestly I don't think this guy is an NHL coach I didn't think it when they played
the Leafs I didn't think it when they played the Jets I didn't think it when they played the Golden
Knights and I didn't think they they did it when they played in the Stanley Cup final Jeff Ducharme
Dom Ducharme is not was that on purpose that was not on purpose I can tell it wasn't on purpose
that's hilarious Dom Ducharme is not the guy and at a certain point I agree with you Jesse don't
go out and make any trades maybe find if a goaltender comes up on waivers like if you can
that's all i'm saying like grab grab that i could see like because this thing is is that they're
going to be last place at this point there's no catching the next team there's no way arizona's
right there how many how many wins does arizona have arizona's right there i think it's a couple
points arizona just beat colorado yeah okay well yeah that means a whole lot that they're better
It does.
They ended their home winning streak.
Okay, let me have a look at that.
No, here's what it is.
So the country, Canadians right now have a game in hand on the Coyotes,
and they have three less wins.
Now, what's the point?
They're not going to, 26 and 23.
Okay, so they catch the Coyotes.
Oh, boy.
Listen, I think you got to get a new coach,
or you got to get an interim coach in there.
You don't get the new coach.
You're not going to find the new coach.
I think this guy's got to go.
And I think you've got to get some sort of goaltender
because you're going to kill Caden Primo.
I don't think Ducharme is long for Montreal.
I think that's fair.
And he shouldn't be.
He shouldn't be.
Because, listen, this team went through injury troubles.
It went through COVID troubles.
The list of things that have gone wrong for the Montreal Canadiens
is well documented.
But I'm here on Daily Faceoff just to confirm I'm not crazy.
leckanen suzuki to foley byron evans anderson mike hoffman is new gallagher armia caulfield
romanoff charrott kulak petrie all those guys were habs in the stanley cup final
mm-hmm all of them except for hoffman dauphin and paling are the only guys who i don't think played
and klagen weidman on the third pair which shouldn't make you sink or swim for god's sake
they need a save but they also need a heartbeat
now like man it is an interesting conversation because i do feel like if they do get a save
and if they do get a different coach behind the bench
They might actually start winning some games.
I think if they do both of those things,
they're not going to finish last.
But losing like this takes recovery time.
You can't.
You can't lose.
The Coyotes are in some games.
Montreal is dead as soon as the puck drops.
Winning in two years' time, in a year's time,
will fix all of this losing.
We can't be talking about the Canadians like this.
Also, Steve, you listed a whole bunch of guys
who are in the Stanley Cup final,
the four they're missing,
Weber, Kotkaniemi, Deneau, Price.
That's a pretty big four that are out
and no longer with the Canadians.
And they're definitely missing.
Kotkaniemi was a healthy scratch.
That's true, that's true.
Deneau was very big.
Yeah, but he would have been a big part
of their future going forward
if they could have not gotten offer sheeted.
So when, you know, there was a lot of talk,
I think it was on 32 Thoughts,
heading into the season
you judge a general manager
based on how they left
the team
how the team does after they're gone
what are you about to say
are you about to dump on
Mr. Marky Burge
I mean
yeah he didn't exactly
did he leave it
better than he found it
no really
well how could you say that they got to the cup
final then what
Then what?
No, Carey Price got them in the cup final.
Mark Bergevin deserves exactly zero credit for that.
Unless he...
Oh, except for the boat anchor contract he signed him to.
I just...
I'm sorry, but like Mark Bergevin,
if I'm an LA Kings fan,
I'm worried about that guy being in the room.
He drafted Price, right?
Oh, no.
No.
No, no.
That draft...
Price was 2007?
I want to say.
But Bergevin was there for nine years.
But he was in Chicago.
Bergevin was in Chicago when Price was drafted.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Because the reason I know that is that the beach situation happened
and the Akeem Aliyah situation happened when Bergevin was in Chicago.
Yeah, I didn't realize that.
Carey Price was drafted in 2007.
We made it like 10 minutes.
Draft year.
Let me see.
Is it 2007?
2005.
2005.
And I remember McGuire thought it was a terrible pick.
This is a terrible idea.
Fifth overall pick.
I'm Pierre.
I think what it is here is, like, listen, I get where you're coming from, Jesse.
I totally get it.
Me too.
But when you watch the Canadians play,
it's,
have you ever seen,
you've seen like five-year-olds play hockey,
right?
And five-year-olds play,
five-year-olds play hockey.
It's like me and Steve playing hockey.
Yeah,
no,
it's the equivalent.
You've seen Jesse and I play.
What's amazing about five-year-olds playing hockey
is you have all 10 skaters
in the,
within the same square meter of each other.
Wherever the puck is,
that's where they go.
And occasionally the puck squirts out
and the entire move,
The intolerant bulge of people just follows it very, very slowly.
That's how the Canadians play defense.
They're confused.
They're a complete mess.
New Jersey had insane cycles last night.
I was looking at it going, are you fucking serious?
This is the Montreal Canadiens?
The thing is, I don't even necessarily need them to win a game.
But if they could lose 3-2, that'd be sweet.
It'd be a hell of a lot better.
3-2 is too close to winning.
all of a sudden it's three to two and then oh you squeaked out a shootout win and then we got a
couple points on the board and we pass arizona now you guys are looking you're looking too close
at the picture move back a little realize that losing right now is a good thing and the draft
pick and the draft capital and you can sell off everything lose more games you'll be good in the
future in a couple years dude i'm i'm looking at uh because the team that keeps getting brought up
is the 16-17 avalanche and i'm looking at games like 40 through 50 to be fair because this is
roughly where the habs are in the season they didn't get their shit rocked every night they
lost they let you know what's amazing games 40 to 50 they lost 40 to 48 but like they weren't
getting blown out every single night god that team was bad they were so so bad but they they
did eventually figure it out i just think this team the avalanche from 1617 had the pieces
that montreal just doesn't and i should point out that at the time i did not see that i was calling
for like joe sacking to be yeah i was like man maybe he's not that good at this yeah but we have
that we have the power of hindsight i'm now i'm trying to use that hindsight and look at the
Montreal Canadiens and I'm like all right who's their McKinnon who's their Rantanen Suzuki 15
goal 40 points Suzuki who's their listen Suzuki's sick I know I'm just like your Habs fans no I know
Suzuki's great is he McKinnon no Caulfield's great is he Rantanen no but who is Landeskog then
who's you know kale mccarr with the fourth overall pick like holy smokes a lot has to
fall into place in order for you to be that and i'm i'm struggling to see it kent all that to
say kent hughes has a lot of work to do and i just the way they're losing right now is counterproductive
and and it's february 9th the season is going to end this year even later than it normally does
What are we talking?
Mid-April?
End of April?
No, mid-April is when it usually ends.
End of April?
End of April.
Yeah.
It's only like two weeks off schedule.
Guys, it's only two and a half more months of this.
It's not bad.
Shane Wright's going to be great in a Canadian's jersey.
That's all I'm saying.
If they get Tim Murray here, this is going to be great.
Yeah, if it goes like Buffalo, then no.
Oh, they fall to fourth.
Forget everything I said, but if Shane Wright's in a Canadian's jersey,
then all this means.
Then you're right.
Then you're right.
And I do worry a little bit about Caden Primo
just because I'm looking at his AHL numbers.
He's fine.
He's fine.
It's like Laval is better.
Well, yeah, because Laval,
they're contenders this year, aren't they?
Aren't they a very good team?
Yeah, and he's the best goalie on the team,
just looking at it.
What is Montreal's goals against
and how close are they to a goals against record?
Oh, boy.
All right, here, let me check that out.
Because if the narrative we're going with is that they keep getting blown out,
is it historic?
Because there's been so many times we look up,
and Andrew Berkshire is talking about a seven-goal game,
an eight-goal game, and we're like, how does this keep happening?
Well, NHL.com is a nightmare,
but they've allowed the most goals in the NHL with 179 versus 100 goals for.
And what's the all-time record in goals against?
Worse than that.
let me say this no we can't do all time because there were some like in the 70s
so yeah just look at the all-time list and like give me a 2005 number you know the most recent
number most goals against in nhl history as an aside it would be so great if the nhl.com would
just simply cater to the fans no no nhl.com like prides itself on not working it's just the worst
sometimes yeah so this is this is why this conversation doesn't work the record is the 74
75 capitals well yeah this is what jesse said don't use an expansion team and use something
from 2005 oh okay the record is 404 well they were stupid there were like 10 goals a game back
there and it would have been all of against the capital so what's the modern uh post lockout
record i'm looking yeah i'm looking for the record in a year that starts with two and like
like it's not even in the top 100 at the website i'm looking at oh gosh holy cow yeah no we're
gonna be here a while okay uh 149th worst we have the 2005-6 pittsburgh penguins that was the
Crosby rookie year
penguins. They allowed
310 goals.
So Montreal is on
pace to pass that.
Yeah, they're roughly there.
Okay.
Alright.
They're there.
Hey, listen, why not be the best
team of all time when you can also be the worst
team of all time?
Yeah!
By the way, when the Canadians are good again, I'm going to remind you that
yes, you might have the most storied history
in NHL
in hockey, really, but
you were also the worst non-expansion
team of all time. I will remind you
of that. When you get fussy in my
comments, don't be fussy.
So, Penguins, that Penguins
team was 3.78
goals against per game. These Habs
are 3.97.
They're just
shy of allowing four goals
against a game. The Habs have to score.
The Habs, who
even last year, when they were
doing great, were not known for goal scoring.
have to score five goals to win.
Dude.
This is legendary, this shit.
Your point about Bergevin is looking real good.
Like, the way he left this team.
Well, and the thing is, the Kings are on the upswing,
and you want to bring that guy in?
Yeah.
I would actually ask Rob Blake, if he was here right now,
I'd be like, Rob, why?
What are you getting?
The rumor for months was Bergevin was going to the Kings,
then Deneau signs there,
and like three or four months later, the guy joins him.
Like, he had all summer to, like, Jake Allen is his price contingency, right?
And I wasn't sure about the move, and then I sort of warmed up to it.
And I'm like, okay, you know, goalie with a bit of an injury history,
I understand it.
Yeah.
Shea Weber, he knew the whole summer.
Yes.
And they've known that for years.
They knew that for years.
Yeah.
And I think the very first game over episode with Andrew and with Julian,
they said they knew when they traded for Shea Weber, the time was ticking.
They thought he had maybe two more years left.
That's what they thought at the time.
And he played five.
And they had five years to replace that position, and they couldn't do it.
And they didn't do it.
C.J. snuck in on the last C.J. episode that Webber's career is over.
Of course it is.
Like, he's not coming back.
And people, remember how much shit people gave Kiprios for tweeting?
He just was a year early.
He was just early.
He wasn't wrong.
He was just early.
Come on.
It felt so bad for that situation because people online were just ragging on Kiprios.
The hell do you know Kiprios?
He knows a lot.
He nailed it.
He does know a lot.
He just, I mean, he played one more year and went to the Stanley Cup final.
Didn't quite nail it.
He nailed it.
He nailed every detail.
Bullseye!
It was right.
By the way, the team whose third worst in goals against this year
is the Devils, who they just lost 7-1 to.
Yeah, that's the thing, right?
It's not close.
It's not that it was 7-1.
It was 7-1 to the Devils.
If it's 3-2 to the Devils, I don't hate it.
They're also second last in goals for.
So here's what I'm going to ask.
Promise me this.
Once the season is over, I want a super cut, part two,
but like all of them together of andrew introducing uh game over montreal and julian
because julian's been doing it while andrew's been doing game over international that's right
i want them i want every okay habs loose six you know whatever the whatever the score is i want a
super cut of that i don't want that on tiktok 65 times yes it's gonna be i don't even know if you
could fit that into a minute because it's like if it's an instagram reel that it has to be i don't
think anybody's watching three minutes i'm watching that i think we're doing a super cut i think the
10 seconds i don't know i think the one we got is pretty good um if guys from personal experience if
you make a super cut of you suffering people will watch yeah yeah come on all right no all we have
to do now here's what we do as sdpn people this is the right thing to do we count how many sad
andrews there will be so every time there's a loss it's another sad andrew okay that's what's
going to happen uh this this just broke from mark masters austin matthews is on the ice in
a regular jersey how the hell so why i thought you were moving on this is why it's dangerous
for you to have a computer yeah because i was going to get to that later in the show we can
get to it now what happened you're sad i'm just i'm just teasing you so here's what sheldon is
the dad who never pulls over
for McDonald's.
If I
don't give you a hard time,
Adam goes, fuck your nuggets. I have a
plan to take us to Freshie, and I'm
like, I don't want Freshie. I want
McDonald's, Dad. It's not the same.
You're gonna get a pita with dry rice.
God damn it.
Okay, so here's the... Steve, I'm surely giving you a hard
time. It really doesn't matter. If Everly asks to go to McDonald's
when you're home, what's your response? No, no, no.
I for sure...
Here's the thing is that Everly now has Natalie on her side
who is also a big fan of chicken nuggets.
So I get outvoted.
She's right.
What if Everly doesn't need chicken nuggets today?
What are you telling her?
If she doesn't...
She does.
Yeah.
Dude.
She's like,
she had chicken nuggets last night.
I say that the McDonald's is closed
because she's young enough to believe me.
Oh, that's good.
So here's what I tell her.
I also tell her when she asks for the Wiggles,
I tell her they're on vacation right now.
Oh!
I don't know if he's got it.
Yeah, I don't know.
They're on vacation.
They're on vacation.
But Taylor Swift's working.
Or my mom says,
all the wiggles aren't on right now oh you know even though everything's on demand yeah um also
we need to talk does that work with kids today yeah it does well with a two and a half year old
they don't know what spotify is i got about six four months before that stops working so i'm going
to just enjoy it while i can steve i am giving you a hard time steve because if i don't then
i'm not doing my job right i have to do my damn job blippy fine oh what about blippy are we that's
I think we should save that for later in the show.
Let's save that for later in the show.
So we're teasing Blippi.
We're teasing Blippi.
So after Leafs practice yesterday or the Leafs avails,
Sheldon Keefe told the media that Austin Matthews came in
and that it didn't seem like maybe the head injury was as bad as they thought.
He said it was a good day.
And he said, but obviously with these situations, you have to monitor them.
And he said, if he's feeling okay tomorrow,
then he'll be back on the ice practicing.
And Steve obviously has that.
But, I mean, listen, it was so great to see Mitch Marner score those two goals.
It was so great.
That game was a great game.
It really was.
And a real test.
I mean, listen, the one thing I have to say about watching the Leafs against Carolina
is they played up to Carolina.
Because I think if I'm a betting man, Carolina's a better team overall.
They played better.
I think Sheldon Keefe even said that.
He was like, they set the table for the Leafs.
So, for the Leafs to take them to overtime and win.
now listen in a seven game series maybe that doesn't go your way every time that was a great
test and and i i think success but when that marner goal went in tell me if you were the same
i was still like okay but what about austin matthews doesn't it feel a little bit heavy
i felt a little heavy i was like please god just be okay can't we have the overtime win and our
stars healthy you know you know what that was kind of a for me that was actually a win with
no conditions um because you the show must go on and unfortunately we got uh we got a hard lesson
in that uh game one last year against montreal john tavaris got hurt and um you know that game
that game went on it's kind of amazing it was only a one goal loss right you know sort of sort of by
the skin of their teeth you know best player goes down show goes on you gotta win hard fought game
all night you can't fold uh when something like that happens because something like that happens
all the time uh in hockey um it's not even the first time we've seen something like that
specifically happen so when Marner scored I'm not gonna lie I lost it like that that was
that was about as much fun as I've had watching a Leaf game this season and dude Mitch Marner's
found his game what a problem i love it and i loved his quote not all his um the reason pucks
are going in for him is his looks aren't as clean wow what does that mean so much trap i got all
so the leafs get like 40 plus shots on igor shisterkin it's like game six of the season
and everyone's like Steve they got goalied ah they got goalied and I'm like Shcherkin made like two
good saves tonight and people got on me shot to the chest shot to the chest right yeah and like
part of that is elite positioning he's you know a solid contender for Vezina some are even saying
heart but it didn't look like the Leafs had many quality scoring opportunities in that game
and Sheldon Keefe after that game said we had a lot of clean looks too clean and all season
since then they've been scoring dirty goals goals in the muck goals banging away in front
goals with screens goals through traffic kind of like the Nylander goal that didn't end up
being Nylander it ended up being Matthews but Matthews just bulldozed through you know what I
mean even those are the partner goal was him following the play and just getting the puck in
the in the blue crease and batting it in rip it yeah rip it whack at it i don't i don't care what
you do just put it in and they had elements last season when the puck was still going in for them
where they try to score too pretty and what they have discovered this season like for for as much
as i uh rip on them for you know they're still too soft in front of their own net they need help
on defense man they're a way better team offensively i don't know what the what the
goals for per game it's the best forward group i've ever seen yeah and the best group if if not
on paper then definitely in performance like the puck is going in because it bloody well should
like they're they're willing it into the net they're outworking teams in front of their own
net it's it's great to see and marner has joined the fray everyone can do it when everyone can do
it it's hard to iso guys i mean all philip dino had to do was neutralize austin matthews and the
whole uh whole tower of cards falls right you know now it's a problem now the second line hasn't been
as good granted granted but that first line man but it's not like the second line wasn't good
earlier in the season right that's the whole point of having that much scoring power is one
one yeah there's a little bit and yeah but the narrative coming out of new jersey where people
are like tavars and neilander are slumping like it's not untrue i said it myself it's not untrue
but they'll come out of that because it's an ebbs and flows season it's 82 games which is
always way too long but they're they're not going to be hot for all 82 no it's you know i'm so
negative but now i'm like dude they killed the devils that night like what are you even talking
about it's it's almost like sometimes i can be negative sometimes i can be positive and
nuance is a thing oh don't worry about it i wouldn't worry about that too much i know like
dude uh they're a really good team in in front of the net and marner has has been a huge part
of that as of late. He's on the best goal
scoring tear of his career. You want nuance
and positivity and
negativity? What's going
on with that second pair in there?
Second pair D.
Okay, that Justin Hall.
Justin Hall!
Now, this is a very Mikey Stevens
tweet, but was it the
second or the third goal with Justin
Hall? The one where he got turned around?
Yeah, because the puck hit the stanchion.
Mike tweeted,
And Justin Hall hasn't done the right thing with the puck this entire season.
That's not true.
Obviously, that's a bit of a – there's tongue-in-cheek to that.
We know that.
Let's not paint that narrative.
But I thought Justin Hall had been better.
Yes.
I mean, honestly, better.
Honestly.
But it was – there are brain farts like that.
And I think what it comes down to with the Leafs defense is A-Muzz is not playing,
and he's a steadying force back there, even if he's injured.
He's steadying.
And he's back on the ice as well without a concussion jersey on.
That's awesome.
So we get him back.
That's great.
and I think Kyle Dupe has talked about this
and we talked about it on Monday.
He wants to see the lineup as constructed.
Please, God, put my best players in the lineup
all at the same time.
Kyle needs to get away from that.
It's hockey.
Jesse's 1,000% right.
I have no sympathy for him.
No sympathy for him.
That's a luxury.
I don't think he's looking for sympathy.
Hey, ask Tampa how it went all 82 games without Kucherov.
They want to see the lineup as constructed.
You put together a lineup on cap-friendly and daily face-off.
You don't get that line up on the ice because injuries happen.
You're playing on knife shoes.
That's fair.
I don't care if he's not looking for sympathy.
It's concerning to me he would even say that.
Right.
Shut up.
It's not an excuse.
No, no.
I think if you watch it, he's just being like, listen, we want it so we can get the best data possible to make the right choice.
Steve nailed it.
Shut up.
Shut up.
You and Rosie DeManna go sit in the shut up corner.
You plan God laughs.
well i think i think what he's trying to say is like listen i'd like to get as many people in the
in in as as much as possible so we can see what we have i agree though shut up i agree though he's
not gonna get that my thinking is i wouldn't say it to his face my thinking my thinking is the
talent level and i've talked about this before years ago when it was like nikita zaitsev we're
all ragging on it's like i don't know that the talent level's there i don't know like i it's
great morgan riley and tj brody are great when hall and muzzin are on they're great um it's a
lot to expect sandin and lilligren who are not even playing every night to come in and step in
and we know travis dermot has his good nights and then has his i'm going to twirl in front of the
net and overtime nights so at a certain point a zach bogosian type ad and it's not going to be
zach because he doesn't want to play in canada that is the kind of thing that it seems like this
team's gotta add there's gotta be it doesn't have to be high skill but stability seems to be an
issue on defense if we're gonna if we're gonna point to anything it's i know there are you know
what the leafs need someone with terrible underlying numbers like i think i think the
best addition they could make is going to be someone who a lot of the fan base is going to hate
because they need someone for a very specific role and you always talked about this with the
belichick brady patriots is they just find people who are really good at one thing
they need they need to move i'm gonna pretend to know what that position is
it's where adleman played they need oh well there you go yeah i recalled watching him every february
you know very good very good at slot receiver was it yeah yeah yeah cool they need a body mover
in front of the net yeah if jake now if jake muzzin doesn't return to form oh boy it's a
problem but riley brody is extremely good to me they'll score more for the leafs than they get
scored against muzzin blank and another body mover somewhere in there whether it's on the
second pair or on the third will make the team better and generally speaking body movers shot
blockers those guys have crappy numbers man they generally speaking they're on the ice getting
hemmed in and getting
blasted away by the other team's
best offenses
and that's exactly the kind of
player they need. So are you saying Ben Sherrod is going to be
a Leaf?
Dude.
Guys, no.
No. Why not?
What's it going to cost?
Everybody's like, well, it's going to have to be a first round pick because
it's the Leafs.
I'm not spending a first round pick on Ben Sherrod.
How can Montreal ask anybody for anything right now?
Well, it's the Leafs. They can ask them for anything they want.
and Dubas is going to get on the phone
like in the all or nothing and be like
Shani they want 80 first
just do it
well and like what did they
pay for Placanics was it a second
for the last 14 games of his career
a second and two prospects
who didn't pan out
the second's a little much for
Placanics especially considering what he provided
and they had to give him a new turtleneck it was ridiculous
preposterous
um hey
how about a guy
who's you want you want someone who's 6'2 225 sure you want someone you want someone who's uh who's
who's got a stanley cup pedigree you want someone who's a former top five pick
luke shen come on oh i thought you're gonna say erica brandon i was like you're
come home baby his numbers have been good this year
though i legit don't know who he plays for vancouver still wait are you talking about
luke shen or good branson luke shen oh i was like good branson does not play for vancouver no no no
no no no no no luke shen i'm not talking i thought you were gonna say good branson i was
like please god calgary yeah apparently erica branson plays for calgary all right well uh
listen they need a body mover and luke shen i think will be cheaper than ben wouldn't it be
You know that if Luke Shen is a Maple Leaf by the end of the year,
he's going to get a standing O at Scotiabank.
You know that.
And he deserves it.
Here's where you're wrong.
If the Leafs at the deadline acquire someone
and you're judging whether or not the trade was good or bad,
you're wrong if you use their regular season stats.
You are.
because you're using statistics from the wrong sport no because it's a different sport after
yeah it is it is people use uh who is it who who played two sports like a lunatic with
bo jackson yeah who did you use yeah did you use their uh baseball stats to judge them as a football
player it's kind of the same playoff hockey's completely different it's a little analogy is
perfect it's perfect and flawless it's two things about two things about luke shen one he last
played in toronto a decade ago i cannot believe it's been that long but 2012 was his last game
as a leaf to get luke shen bring back luke's troops do it bring it back why not do it luke's
troops it was luke's troops and then loop's troops for loophole and then it was leaf's troops and
then they just didn't now they just honor somebody yeah now we just didn't clap we just stay in the
clap stay in the clap here's he played eight games as a member of your toronto maple man they've been
digging deep yeah good dude christian hansen more than once like i don't even think he lives here
like they flew yeah listen christian we really need you to come and put the jacket on the person
can you do that uh sure yeah no problem let me just take that time off work um i think uh
well i mean come on am i crazy um what's next you're not crazy you're just rude so anyway great
to see matthew's back uh definitely very interesting going into the trade deadline
and obviously the cj show is going to be the go-to with all the cool rumors because they got
not just not did they have rumors but they have cool rumors we finally have an insider on the
that work it's nice isn't it it's good yeah we have a smart person in the building on payroll
yeah so we don't have to like listen cj came on anyway right but now he's now he works here we
got a whole half an hour show to talk about love i love it definitely half an hour two and five

So, Brad Mersham
brad marshman braddy marshman
tried to punch tristan jari in the head and then hit him with a stick
did successfully he clipped him right yeah okay yeah so listen i i'm new at this hockey thing
but from what i have surmised we don't take kindly to goalies being punched in the head
Players were fine with it, but goalies, that tends to elicit a different reaction.
And according to Pierre Lebrun this morning, he has been offered an in-person hearing, meaning in Zoom, I believe.
I don't think they do the in-person anymore.
And that means it could be north of five games, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.
What do you think about the play?
What do you think started it?
And if you're Boston Bruins management, what do you do about it, if anything at all?
well uh if boston bruins manager what i ask brad would you like me to renegotiate your contract so
i can give you a raise and then i remember i'm jeremy jacobs and i don't do that but
you know okay let's back up because people were pointing out that tristan jari mouthed off to
brad marchand just before the punch i mean of course he did it's brad marchand did you see the
thing before the game where jari tried to flip a puck over the glass to a fan and marchand skated
by and whacked the puck off his stick now not only did he whack it off of his stick he caught it mid
air he brad marchand took the puck from jari and caught it himself he flipped it to himself it was
very impressive also like an anime villain dick move yeah huge like a like an actual like anime
villain yeah so all of this this tussling started pre-game yeah so first of all hilarious the
Bruins fans behind the bench because this was in Boston loved it they thought it was hilarious now
I don't know you know maybe Jarvis tried to flip it to a kid or something like that whatever but
the Bruins fans that I saw behind the net loved it so that's where it starts so Jari mouthing
off to Marchand didn't fall out of the sky so Bruins fans can stop clutching their pearls about
that but Brad Marchand getting a in-person hearing meaning he can be suspended for more than five
games there is the amount of games i want him to be suspended and the amount of games i think
he should be suspended and they are the same amount of games zero interesting what none
sitting it george sitting it you cannot give a guy a five or six game lifetime achievement
award suspension you did not adequately punish this guy ever ever for anything he learned was
trained by you he can get away with whatever he wants for over a decade and now you're trying to
make up for it i i asked someone yesterday i go what's what's he gonna be suspended for
and they go well he punched him in the head steve and i go since when do you get suspended
for punching someone in the head in the national hockey league but it's a goalie it's a goalie
So what?
So what?
You know that matters, Steve.
That does matter.
It matters.
Get out of here.
They do.
Get out of here.
It super does not matter.
What about that?
You ever see that clip of him just punching Klokanitz in the head off the face off when he was with the Habs?
Yes.
You let him get away with murder.
Yeah, but this is a goalie.
And I don't even know if the goalie was even looking properly.
Was Jari scaring him in the arms?
he wasn't even hurt
and then he spears him in what the mask
the spear is
awful because he's being held
back by the referee
he drags the referee over to Jari
and then
he dragged him over
and then he takes the stick and he
pokes him in the face
that was my favorite part of the whole clip
that was my favorite
can they dock 51 pay
that ref was useless
yeah through that what do you look okay what do you want this regular human to do against brad
marchand no job he's not gonna he's not gonna be able to hold them back but job well okay either
both things are extremely dangerous first of all and and jari's not even looking yeah he's looking
down it's a punch so the the punch on jari is a punch to the side of the head yeah luckily he
raises him uh thank goodness he doesn't like make full contact but that's it's all it's not in the
middle of play but play had just stopped and jars in the crease and you go and you just punch a
goalie in the side of the head like i see uh department of safety looking at that and being
like okay this is extra dangerous we're gonna find a way to give you uh three to five games
two minutes roughing there are no lifetime achievement awards for suspension yeah steve
this is i i gotta disagree with you on this one i know what you're saying but this is a goalie who
is not looking and then after the play the referee lets marchand drag him let's be honest it's not
like the ref is trying to really split them up it's like it's like it's like um dana white when
he puts his hand between the two fighters who supposedly hate each other it's like okay dana
your fight your fat hand isn't going to stop these two world-class athletes dude who goes to the gym
a couple times a week yeah yeah yeah like like and i i again i would say that to dana were he here
right uh what are you doing the ref is not trying really because i don't think the ref's expecting
marshan to go like take a swing and obviously i don't think marshan's even trying to make contact
with jari he's just trying to punk him right that's that's what i think is going on here
what blows me away is and maybe sydney crosby didn't see it but when you see um when you see
jari get hit sydney crosby is the guy behind marshan um uh in the in sort of the scrum
towards the side, right?
So Marchand hits him.
And then you see the ref pulls Marchand away
and Crosby's there.
I'm not sure if Crosby didn't see it or something.
And I know that they're buddies in the off season.
I know they play on Team Canada or whatever,
but Crosby kind of just,
and maybe he's just focused on hockey,
but at a certain point you'd feel like
if I'm the goalie and my captain saw that,
I would want Crosby to take a swing at him.
It's not like Sidney Crosby's ever backed down
from a fight, right?
No.
He's a tough man.
He should probably, I mean, yeah,
people were getting on him if anything crosby should back down from more fights like yeah
probably he's getting he's got a concussion history and like yeah go ahead well okay like
okay we don't like that he speared uh jari in the mask and by the way penguins fans
this is not how i think things should be so relax no steve hates pittsburgh follow me here
privately follow me here so okay we don't like that he speared him in the mask uh 2017 brad
marchand suspended two games for spearing tampa bay's jake dodgen okay and matthew kichuk suspended
one game for spearing incident in toronto last night i don't even remember that one one or two
games and it was 2017 for marchand so he's not a repeat offender and in that regard like one or two
games i don't know where they get off with this five plus shit guys you can't i can't i think
he's gonna be and now so steve if you're talking about in a vacuum in a vacuum yeah
marshan should be should be uh should be uh suspended how many games
zero in a vacuum you shouldn't be able to do either of those things steve in a vacuum he's
been able to get away with it his entire career i'm trying to divorce you from the second half
of what you just said there.
Okay.
And divorce is my specialty.
We all know that.
What I'm trying to do
is pull you away
from the history.
Yeah.
This play
should get
how many games
usually.
This situation.
Not...
Steve.
You don't think
what happened
warrants a suspension
at all.
If it's any player.
I'm asking you not to use
If that's Ilya Mikheyev
and he does that,
that doesn't get a suspension.
Maybe one.
Okay.
Then...
There we go.
That's what we're asking.
That's what I'm trying to get to.
Because to me, that's got to be, like, you can't have, it's extremely, like, if Pete
Blackburn said it best, he's like, extremely dumb shit from Marsha.
Oh, yeah.
And I think what it is, is that it's, there's a couple of things.
Goalie's not looking.
It's a goalie.
And then he takes a swing, hits him in the face, like the face mask.
That's with the linesman on him.
And I'm watching this replay on my computer right now.
To me, that's minimum three.
Minimum three.
And to defend.
Based on what?
Crosby a little in that play.
When Letang's standing there in front of Jari
and Brad Marchand comes around Letang
and he punches Jari in the face,
Letang turns around and he kind of gets on Marchand.
So Crosby's standing kind of behind him
and Crosby's looking at Letang go at Marchand.
He doesn't need a double up on him.
I just want to throw this out there.
Who does the ref...
So Marchand punches the goalie in the face.
Who does the ref restrain?
Chris Letang.
Yeah.
because letang letang starts going at oh my god it's it's why are nhl officials allowed to touch
anybody well you have to you have to be a break big people up you have to they they make almost
every every situation they get physically involved in worse right not true well that's absolutely
true what are you talking about it's absolutely true oh no just let them go well no i think you
They made this one worse.
I agree.
They made this one worse.
I don't think they helped this one.
I'm with you.
No, well, this one, Brad Marchand is the one who made it worse.
Yeah.
All right, well, we'll drag the guy and spear at another player in the face.
Here's the other thing.
We'll keep a running list for the rest of this season,
and I bet they make most of them worse.
And you know what, Steve?
Maybe you're right about that.
I haven't really paid enough attention to know.
But what I want to say is this.
I appreciate the maybe.
Brad Marchand is two months removed from his most recent suspension.
That's Matt Larkin, Hockey News.
Yeah, he was suspended earlier this year, right?
So he's now a repeat offender.
So I said three games just for that play in a vacuum
without the NHL's sordid history of trying to suspend people
and not doing the right thing.
I think you're looking maybe four.
Because if he's got recent history, that does factor in.
I know it's only 18 months, but it's only been two months
since he was suspended last time.
And I just, I do, I think if you're Bruins management,
in the way that they did when Brad Marchand was licking Leo Komarov.
And the NHL called them and said,
listen, we don't want to play this fairly,
so we're not going to suspend him,
but please don't have him lick another player again.
I'm sure Bruce Cassidy sat down and said,
listen, Brad, love the edge,
but let's just look at that line again.
We know we crossed that line.
They have to sit down and talk to him about that.
Like, I know, like, if you want a guy to play on the edge,
you're going to have, he's going to see the red mist.
Brad, rarely, but he does see the red mist.
I think at this point, you got to sit him down and say,
Brad, we need this come playoff time.
We need you come playoff time.
We can't have this.
This is clown, it's clown shit.
It's clown shit.
I think he knows.
I think he knows this is the regular season that he's,
they were losing a game.
Jari was playing unbelievable.
Pittsburgh was, stole a game from the Bruins.
and he knew that if I get
suspended for three games, three to five games
in the regular season, that's okay because I'll be
there in the playoffs. I'll be there
and I'll be a pest, but I won't go
this far. We need him for
the playoffs. I
need to know if either of you are taking
crazy pills. You think
Brad Marchand would be suspended
for that in the playoffs?
I just said he
knew what he was doing. He wouldn't be suspended in the playoffs.
Exactly. I think he gets suspended
for punching a goalie in the head
when he's not looking at you.
But he wouldn't do that.
And you think he'd be suspended
for that in the playoffs.
I do think you'd be suspended
for that in the playoffs.
Yeah, I do.
You're out of your mind.
You're out of your mind.
Am I crazy?
I think Brad Marchand knows the line
and he wouldn't cross that line
if it was the playoffs.
He's too good at that.
Yeah, Adam, I'm driving you
to the crazy place.
Also, I think punching a goalie in the head
when he's defenseless
is probably a suspension.
I don't know what you're arguing.
That has to be.
That has to be.
It feels like it has to be.
I mean, we can't stick this low, can we?
Come on, we can't be this low, can we?
I want to live in your world.
The ideal world where this happens.
But since when?
Since when does any of this happen?
And in the playoffs, Adam, that is shocking.
You think third round of the playoffs, game five.
So I think in the playoffs, that's one game.
I think punching a goalie.
Oh my God, not a chance.
a defenseless goalie in the head uh you can count i don't know if you if you count the ejection as
one game i'll count that but that's either you're ejected at the time or you get one game like
that's that's you can't do that i mean there's 23 seconds left in the game i don't think you
count the ejection yeah so give them one game so i agree so if this is the way the nhl is going
where the end of the game is not just lawless bullshit in the final 30 seconds if that's the
way the nhl is going great but it's not based on anything they've ever done and i agree with you
on that i agree with you on that a thousand percent i'm not saying the nhl's got a fabulous
history with with suspending people or setting any sort of benchmark listen there's a reason
they don't write any rules down it's because they don't want you to hold you to them why
why would i write something down lest you hold me to it they're smart that's why they do it now
Now, I do want to say this, and this is something to keep an eye on.
Chances of it happening aren't great, but if I'm looking at the standings right now,
and if I'm looking at them correctly, Florida and Tampa are very, very good teams,
although Toronto's not far behind either of them.
I know everybody's like, well, Florida, Tampa, crazy.
Toronto's played four less games than Florida, three less games than Tampa.
They're three points behind Tampa.
They're six points behind Florida.
So they're in there.
But the Pittsburgh Penguins are three games up on the Carolina Hurricanes,
but they're one point behind.
That could easily even out.
The Metropolitan Division is a three-way race between Carolina, New York, and Pittsburgh.
And if Washington turns it around a little bit, they could be right back in it.
Boston likely, I think, is going to finish in the wild card because nobody else is even close.
And if I'm right here,
Pittsburgh and Boston could play in the first round
if Boston finishes second in the wildcard
and Pittsburgh tops Carolina in New York
in the Metropolitan Division.
And I, for one, after what happened,
would like to see it.
And I actually, when you look at the standings,
like a million things can happen, right?
It's only February 9th.
Yeah.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves.
But I like getting ahead of myself.
I like to dream.
I'm a dreamer.
And I want to see black and gold versus black and gold.
Do you not?
oh it'd be great i think the first time they've played since 2013 the black and gold cup i would
say the black and gold derby um yeah no big big fan and uh yeah it's it's weird you did mention
it it's weird how like basically decided the east is like yeah no one's talking about it but like
detroit is the closest team to boston right now steve to add to your point 46 points boston's got
55 and three games in hand yeah like it's not gonna happen and also the look at the goal
differential drop off so boston's plus nine detroit's minus 32 columbus minus 22 like
guys it's yeah the top it's over unless like the islanders would have to be literally the best team
in the league the rest of the way to even make a wild card and patrick line a would have to drag
the columbus blue jackets kicking and screaming to the postseason he's been amazing by the way
Can he play defense?
No, he cannot.
Like, man, Merzlikens really gets...
He can definitely not play defense.
Yeah, Merzlikens gets thrown to the wolves every night.
Like, at least in the West, it's real tight, actually, the race out West.
But in the East, it's basically just fighting over placement.
Which, you know, maybe that's why Marchand treated that game that way.
Yeah.
Like, that's an investment.
Even if he gets suspended, it's an investment.
Like, oh, the Bruins are going to lose some games now.
It's not going to do anything to them.
They're going to be fine.
I want to talk about the other thing in Boston,
which has kind of taken a backseat,
but it looks like we've seen the end of Tuukka Rask in the NHL.
So he played.
He stopped 25 of 27 shots.
I've got the Yahoo article in front of me right now.
In January 13th against the Flyers,
Second start, he was pulled after giving up five goals on 12 shots.
It was in the final start, he had a rough outing in his fourth start as well,
allowed five goals on 27, and he said, basically in the final start,
he started to experience discomfort in the hip,
the hip that had been giving problems.
The Bruins announced previously they were going to shut him down for the week,
see how things progressed.
Didn't end how it's hoped.
It looks like it's, I don't think it's been announced yet,
but we're pretty sure that Tuukka Rask is all done in Boston,
which I think has got to be, I mean,
we were all talking about it i think even in the bruins season preview it's like yeah here are
their goalies and but their deadline acquisition is going to be tuka rask school tending i thought
this was a cheat code i thought there tuka rask was going to come back just as he did and he was
going to be old tuka rask and that just didn't pan out he never got uh the long extended stints
in the ahl to kind of get warmed up because of covid but once he got up to the nhl it was just
a fact that he wasn't nhl ready and he did i guess he doesn't feel like he can ever get back
to that it's a shame at 34 he has to call it a career but it is that's somebody who deserves
their flowers because i think it's out of a minimum 150 starts in the nhl tukarask is third
ever in safe percentage oh he's behind wow he's behind dominic hashik and ken dryden and then
Tuka Rask. Crap, crap, and Tuka.
Garbage.
What a garbage stat.
He's had an unbelievable career, and I
thought there was going to be a little bit more of it.
I thought this last couple of months of the
season was going to be Tuka and the Bruins
just running show, and it's a shame that the hip
couldn't hold up. And I think
so much of what's happened in Boston,
and I agree with this to a certain extent,
has been given to the players
that are not the goalies, right? Like the
Zidane Ocharas and Johnny Boychuck
early on and Bergeron and Marchand
and lately, you know, Pasternak
for the past four or five years.
But let me ask you this.
Hall of Fame numbers. In 564
games, you tell me if this is Hall of Fame.
2.88, sorry,
2.28 goals against average
and a 921 save percentage.
308 wins,
165 losses, and 66
overtime losses.
Hall of Fame. Is that Hall of Fame?
Yes.
Here's the benchmark for me, because there's not a ton.
I'm trying to think of the goalies who are in the Hall of Fame conversation.
Yeah.
Chris Osgood.
It's debatable.
He was on good teams, and I think that's what people really give him a hard time for, right?
He was on good teams.
He was on good teams.
He did win a cup with Detroit.
He was the starter for two of them.
Yeah, yeah.
rask has a cup wasn't see in terms of team resume osgood hasn't beat he was the starting
goalie for two stanley cups yeah nuka rask was the starting goalie for none he did win in 2011
and he was their starter in 2013 when they went to the final lost is their starter in 2019 when
they went to the final lost um but his individual record uh far uh exceeds chris hosgood's oh yeah
yeah oh yeah well and look at his playoff record here okay so he started staggering he started 104
games in the playoffs over a decade basically 11 years and 57 wins 46 loss is obviously a
Besnett Trophy in there too, but that doesn't count with the playoffs.
But his goals against average in the playoffs,
222, safe
percentage, 925.
You're not going to not make the second
round if your goalie consistently performs like that.
And, you know, I
think a lot of, we saw it in Toronto, right?
We saw it, we've seen Boston three times, Tuca beat
us three times. And
the difference in a lot of those series, and people
don't like to talk about it, and we get upset when we talk
about it, the
13-14 Leafs did not
belong there they they they should have they should have been eliminated in four games 12 13
12 13 excuse me yeah 48 games the the two babcock teams that took the bruins to seven games
had two of those losses in each series be freddie anderson just wasn't alive like we were there i
saw there in td garden i saw freddie give up you know five of six goals and it was and i was
Standing beside Jesse going,
Jesus, this is terrible.
This is terrible.
This is crazy.
And Tuca didn't have games like that.
I mean, he had,
but Bruins fans will swear up and down
that he did,
but man, have they been hard on him.
If Toronto had a goalie like that,
imagine Tuca Rask in Toronto,
who could imagine?
That would have,
it's a different,
different conversation completely.
I don't know if I ever told you this.
I can't remember.
Were either of you sitting with me for that game?
Because we were sort of spread out.
We rotated.
We rotated.
because there was remember we had uh two pairs of seats in different sections
and it was yeah you me and then uh was it uh you were with darcy tucker no no jeff fayette it was
jeff fayette me and him sat together for like the second and then steve and adam sat together for
the first and then me and steve for the third that's how we kind of rotate it do you remember
oh i do remember that do you remember the bruins fans in front and there was a guy
who was being like really loud and he was trying to like he would he would say a chirp about the
Leafs and he would
do like a glance
he looked back at
us yeah yeah yeah
he was trying to
goad me into a
fight yeah yeah
yeah and I
wanted to be like
it's it's 6-1
but then after a
while like bro
we're dying here
like after a while
they were kind of
like the Bruins
fans behind us I
think at least
Jesse and I think
we're together
the third period
maybe yeah the
Bruins fans like
one of them after
the sixth goal went
in just tapped me
on the shoulder
said I'm really
sorry like they
were so nice like
they were so nice
one of them the
guy behind me I'm
pretty sure bought
me a beer
oh that's like i love i love boston and i love bruins fans i just i wish they didn't cheer for
the bruins so there's another arena we're talking about this with the habs and maybe you know that
i want to go to more arenas i've seen a lot i've been blessed to see hockey games in a ton of
different arenas but i want to go to more i have to tell you boston gave me the same warm fuzzies
that montreal did yeah and i and i just i lost i saw the leafs lose 6-2 in the playoffs and i
still left boston td garden going my god what a blast this was amazing did they ever fix the seat
fiasco where the there was no leg room i bet jeremy jacob just told him to suck it up yeah
do you remember we talked about that on the show where they were they shortened the leg room because
they wanted to add like 5 000 seats or something oh they weren't even wide the the chairs got
narrow yeah and now nobody could fit in them yeah like the average person yes i would i don't know
if they ever fixed that i don't know i don't think we've been there since that renovation happened
but I'd say my two
favorite non-Scotiabank
arenas to watch hockey, probably
Boston and Montreal.
Edmonton is really nice.
I don't know if you guys went to Rexall.
It's gorgeous. What was it called?
What was it called before? Corral? No. That was Ottawa.
What was the Edmonton? I went to the
original Edmonton Arena. I don't remember.
When... Rexall!
No, Rexall's the one now. It's not Rexall.
Isn't it Rogers now? Oh,
yeah, yeah. Maybe the old one is Rexall.
So Rexall was the one I went to.
The new one's Rogers Place.
No, Rogers Place is that one in Vancouver?
Rogers Arena is Vancouver.
Rogers Place is Edmonton.
Yeah, yeah.
Rexall is the old one.
You are correct.
So I went and saw Taylor Swift in Rexall.
Oh.
It was awesome.
And I also, I've seen Edmonton games there.
So it was, I want to see, I want to see this new arena.
I also want to get to Detroit and see Little Caesars and see if it gives you,
like, sometimes new arenas take a little bit of time to give you the warm fuzzies, right?
I want to see if Little Caesars is like that.
it's also a great place to uh watch strangers fist fight um Detroit Detroit oh dude Red Wings
Leafs uh Red Wings versus Leafs in Detroit always fight I so here I so let me let me tell you about
this I want to talk about this too okay if you're a if you are a um uh Sabres fan oh or a Red Wings
fan when when when I when a Sabres fan locally or Red Wings fan locally says I fucking hate Leafs
fans i get it because oh yeah you're getting the people that are not going to buy the game at
scotia bank arena and are in a different city don't give a fuck about that city and are there
to get hammered and start shit you and and there are plenty of that at leaf station there's plenty
of that in any sports fandom yeah and so unfortunately leafs fans are the most road
travel team right that's when the leafs show up so do a bunch of their fans and i remember it in
calgary where it was like 60 leaf fans for a flames game and it's it's but it's it's like
we're a rowdy bunch we're we're not in our own city and we're gonna cause a bunch of shit and
it's kind of annoying i can get i can understand that you know what i'm saying the metro when blue
jays fans from vancouver go and invade seattle same thing the metro division's kind of bad for
that too like rangers games there's fights and oh philly and yeah i'm just trying to think of all
the videos i've seen you got jersey you got philly and you got two new yorks there's gonna be some
fists oh man i when i was when i worked for leafs tv the security told me there was one every time
this team came to town they hated it because there were always so many fights and i can't remember
who it was shoot i can't i might have been detroit man i think it might have been detroit when that
when the bills you played those random preseason games in toronto at the baseball stadium which
is just a fiasco. That was the worst idea
anybody's ever had. I actually
saw a guy get carried out,
like carried out by four police officers when the
Yankees come to Toronto. That's the same.
It's the same, but in reverse. Yankee fans
invade Toronto because they don't
want to pay Yankee prices, or at least
they didn't used to. Now Toronto prices are expensive
because the team's good again.
They used to just take over and there would be
fight after fight after fight
after fight in the stands because, again, you're on vacation.
You're getting a little drunk. You don't care. You don't
got to work tomorrow.
Yankees fans used to come here
and go to every single game of the series
like you'd see a Yankee fan
in center field for all four games
of that weekend set
they used to take over the whole of Rogers Center
yeah they'd sell it out
and we couldn't sell it at any game
half of the stands of people from New York
you cannot get
Yankees tickets as a
Jays fan I'd always look for them
I'd look for Yankees
I've been to a Yankees game in New Yankee Stadium
no he meant here
No, no, here.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.
You're right.
You can't.
You can't.
They're really difficult to get.
I've seen a lot of Cincinnati Reds, stuff like that.
It's difficult to get into Yankees and Red Sox.
Yeah, 100%.
Yeah, you always can get into a Devil Rays game.
Shocking.
Hey, there's just the Rays now.
They dropped the Devils.
That's right, that's right.
Okay, so...
Also, one correction on that Tuka Rastad.
I said third ever in save percentage.
It's minimum 300 games.
just so that's even better yeah it's even better it's just for anybody who regs on me for getting
the one oh they will they will minimum three also jesse modeling one of the beautiful sdpn
dangle navy jackets looks great on you blue's a good color on you oh thank you blue is the navy
color and i'm rocking it also since we're on talking about merch uh you know what this is
probably your last chance to get on the email mailing list to get a sdpn dangle navy jersey
because that notification might be going out
very soon so get on the
email list if you want to dangle Navy Jersey
so let me ask you this
in your life
have you ever seen
a player knee another player
after a fight not in
the UFC I'm
pretty sure I have but I
cannot think of it like someone was like
Ryan Reeves did this literally last
year and I feel like I would have remembered it
Jeff Merrick would have remembered it
yeah because he knows every fight i'd be very surprised because that that seems like the sort
of thing that ryan reeves very does not have to do he is perfectly capable of beating you up with
his hands instead of his knees but uh marcus felina like that's people talk about like the
heat of battle and seeing the red mist and everything dude what a what a wild thing to do
what a crazy thing to do like I here's here's what I don't want to come out of player safety
today for Marcus Foligno to get less than Martian dude that's a crazy thing to do
and he's lucky it didn't go really really bad what if he cold cocks Adam Lowry and he's out
with a UFC knee to the head.
We're talking 20 games.
Well, I was looking at it and thinking,
Jason Spezza did this in a play to,
I forget who it was earlier this season,
got six games.
Pionk.
Pionk.
And yes, the Leafs had every right to be mad at Pionk
and the refs let the game get out of control,
but you don't do that.
That's the wrong move.
You shouldn't do this.
And thankfully Pionk is okay,
but you still like, it's terrible.
I think you gotta,
If Spezza doing that is six games, I think Foligno's got to be four to five, doesn't it?
Because the thing with Spezza is it happened during a play.
And, you know, at least with Foligno and Lowry, I guess the argument could be they were in a fight and it was at the end.
But I almost feel like that might make it more dangerous because the helmets are off and he's on the ground.
It's a more conscious decision to me.
That's how I see it.
spezzo was going for a hit that was probably going to be bad and it was out of retaliation
and it was out of vengeance and because of the change in body positioning it's went wrong now
it's his fault it went wrong but he didn't quite mean to do that you know what i mean yep felino
he sets the whole thing up he grabs him cocks the knee back and wham that's that's insane
you can't do that and and next time he does it i can't give him a lifetime achievement award
this is what an opportunity you gotta grab george peros so you're saying you gotta grab it now
you gotta grab it now you you gotta you know sometimes you don't think you have to explain
certain things to people you know sean we didn't think we had to explain that you can't face martin
brodeur and blind him for an entire play but now that it's out there we have to create a whole rule
to say that you're not allowed to do this to this day i still think sean avery doing that is one of
the most wicked things i've ever seen in hockey i loved it i loved everything about that i still
don't understand why it's a penalty i don't touch i don't get it i don't get it for a context with
the felino kneeing uh ground and pound play he got um cold cocked by brendan dylan at the blue
line like that's what started there's a brawl about 12 minutes into the game and it's because
dylan comes over and he doesn't he doesn't hit him in the head but he went for it and he and he
hits him uh shoulder to kind of shoulder and then a fight starts out and then adam lowry who um
grabs i forget who he grabs initially i think it's felino who grabs uh yeah uh who's coming
over greenway grabs dylan yeah you know greenway grabs dylan uh lowry lowry comes over and he
grabs felino so we by the back of the neck like chokes him like that would be a suspension on
its own and then and then that fight that happens lowry kicks felino's ass in that fight they have
a whole brawl there and there's
two different two fights going on at once
and Lowry wins this fight
here that Adam's watching on his laptop
Lowry wins it easily and then Foligno
at the end when they're both on
grappling towards the end of the fight
Foligno then gets on him. Well Foligno got
some good rights. I shouldn't say
kick his ass but they were both competitive in the
fight and then in the end Foligno
who initially got rocked
that started this whole brawl ends
with the knee. Am I mistaken in saying
have we ever seen somebody so if I'm
Steve, if I'm going to fight Jesse, a fight I know I'm going to lose.
Oh, don't do that.
Don't do that.
Yeah, he's got the wingspan.
He's got the size.
He's got the athleticism.
We wouldn't be in the same weight class.
But if I were to grab Jesse, and I'm trying to avoid the screen,
and grab him by the scruff of the neck,
have we ever seen somebody get suspended for that?
It's a horse collar tackle is what they call it in the NFL.
Yeah, because I can't remember a time where I've even seen it.
No, Lowry should be fined kind of for the aggressive play
that he pulls on Foligno.
Because he did start the fight.
To grab him into the fight.
Yeah, that's dirty.
Like, he is the instigator.
He's the instigator.
Yeah, 100%.
So, this is now, you know, just as a Leaf fan,
just because it happened between our two teams,
this is the second Jets game, at least.
At least the second Jets game that we've seen get out of hand.
But I'm looking at...
Jesus.
They suck.
But I'm looking at...
Well, they won this game.
But I'm looking at the flavor of both games,
and I'm not putting this on the Jets,
but I'm looking at this, and this will never happen,
so I don't even know why I'm suggesting it.
But did Wayne Gretzky have a point where if you fight,
you shouldn't be allowed to play for the rest of the game?
Because what happened here was two guys who fought,
fought again.
because it's not over there's hurt feelings and everything and then the weirdest thing that hockey
does is after these two men fist fight you put them in a box together for five minutes which
is really 10 or 15 with commercial breaks and shit where they get to say mean things to each
other hurt each other's feelings some more and then go back to a contact sport where they are
free to fight again with
little to no consequence. Should
fighting be
automatic ejection
in the NHL is what you're asking.
I'm going to say they're not going to do that. And Steve,
Steve, you're right to say, to preface
it with that because they,
let's be honest, your baser instincts,
they want that. Oh yeah. They want that.
They want hate.
Like,
here's the thing.
Brendan Smith, who
Wayne Simmons fought in the
hurricanes game because he didn't like to hit on kasha he they still not everyone is like wayne
where they will exchange gentle words afterwards and get and give you a pat on the shoulder
you know this is the one thing where maybe old school guys do have a bit of a point wayne and
i went to school together how dare you say old school i'm upset no no no no no but like when
they say back when there was respect in the game i know i know i know first of all they would break
sticks over your head so let's let's lower our voices when it comes to that but the the i feel
like the the shoulder pat the good job tap on the bum you know great fight now we're friends i feel
like that is leaving the league and fights which are becoming more and more rare are from a higher
and higher percentage born out of genuine anger and hatred and because of that i think the cool
down period should be you don't get to play for the rest of the game yeah the game misconduct for
fighting thing it won't happen until all the guys who fight uh to boost the team's morale are out
you know because some guys just fight like simmons they sometimes it's just a fight because your team
is down and you're trying to get everybody riled up and you fight for that reason like there's a
lot of that in hockey as well and until those guys are kind of ushered out and the fighting is just
uh i hate this guy kind of thing natural thing then i don't think the game misconduct for fighting
is ever going to come into play i think you also have to look at this guys i think you do when
you're looking at the suspension and i don't want to come across here that i'm diminishing what
marcus felino did because it's wrong oh he should be suspended this is beside but we're off that
The Jets have played a bit more of a rough and tumble style
than I've ever seen them play before this year.
They're a tough team.
And they have, but here's the thing,
when I tell you they suck,
they have three wins in their last 10.
Since Maurice resigned,
Paul Maurice resigned on December the 16th or 17th,
they have won six games.
This is a team in free fall.
So part of the reason this brawl happened
is because, well, if you're not gonna,
if we can't beat you, we're gonna fight you.
That's the attitude that they've taken on a little bit here,
I think.
I think it's frustration.
I think it's all of those things
I'm not saying that like Lowry went out there
to intend to injure anybody or whatever
but I definitely think there's a little bit of
fine we're going to lose then I'm going to fuck you up
so you can be a tough team
that's what Martian did
100% I don't have anything wrong with that
being a tough team if you're not that skilled
I think
first off I think they're better
than they've shown because they still are
the Winnipeg Jets I do think they're better
I saw them versus the Canadians
okay fair enough
uh i just i just look at this and go okay part of this part of the reason this started is not
because of minnesota winnipeg it's the jets having the season they're having and the jets
to me have the makeup of a ho-hum regular season team that can make noise in the playoffs
if they make it if they can ride connor hellebuck's back all the way to it
there's too much in the way like look at the log jam in that middle pack of the uh western
conference they're not i don't think they're squeaking over no they're not in vancouver it's
no yeah san jose dallas although let me throw this at you they have played some of the least
amount of games of anybody in the in the conference they're seven points out of the
last wild card spot currently held by calgary that is a lot you got it but you got half a
season to catch you got a kick out st louis calgary edmonton dallas san jose san jose vancouver
One of those six teams
I'm taking one of those six over
Winnipeg right now
I'm taking Calgary over all of them right now
Calgary's so hot
Markstrom's unbelievable
Great season
They're so hot
They're NHL's hottest team
So anyway
It's just
It's a very
Calgary
I'm very interested
Calgary, Calgary
Very, very interested to see how this goes
But
Fascinating night in the NHL
God, it's good to talk about hockey, isn't it?
Isn't it?
I'm fired up
This is great
There's definitely
An air of
Okay, playtime's over
Yeah
Eh?
Like just the past couple days
Since coming back from the All-Star break
Hatred between the Pens and Bruins
Hatred between the Wild and the Jets
A barn burner between the Leafs and Hurricanes
Playtime's over, man
It's been great
This is the gear up
Oh, I love it

Have we anything to promote?
First question
Go listen to Noxian Cacks
Came out yesterday
Always
Great episode with Erica Howe
There's a lot of fun goalie talk
It's cause
Liz and Erica were a goalie
Tandem in the CWHL
so it's a it's a lot of fun because they're real close so you get some real fun stories there a lot
of people enjoying the show appreciate everybody listening it's a good time go watch slash listen
to the noxian cats um also what's uh what's going on with uh agent provocateur uh this week oh you
know i haven't heard from uh mr walsh okay he's uh i have to be honest with you he's been a little
quiet since the all-star week oh we got a little hangover i did message him a couple days ago heard
nothing vegas you're out there we're missing you okay i'm sure we'll have a show actually
what i dm'd him yesterday did he dm you back yeah he did oh i see where the importance is here
fine alan anyway this is something we actually briefly very briefly mentioned earlier in the
show this is from mers oh mers for vesna is kind of the nickname they were going for uh what do
you guys think the blue jackets will do with patrick patrick line is expiring contract do
you have any thoughts on how the pld contract will compare thanks jackets fan
dubois i mean for as bad a season as he had last year he's actually been pretty good
um but what do you do with line a because i columbus is a long shot to make the playoffs
even though they're in ninth and tenth place i think in the standings um so are you you're not
buying if you're columbus right but you're not selling either because you want to build for the
future i think you can like for example if you can't re-sign max domi you make that trade that's
um yeah that's a good point and a valuable piece for a playoff team like i think max domi in the
playoffs is a different max domi if you can't re-sign dean kukin you try to move him i'm just
looking at their and corpus allo is uh the obvious one in net but beyond that well i think i think
you can have a soft retool here if you're columbus you're in a good position you're not a bad team
you got two firsts because of the seth jones deal insane that's crazy gee they they after a pretty
big sell made a statement to their fans by re-signing zach warensky yeah and and this is
another thing they've sort of put themselves in buy mode because he's going from five million
dollars to 9.58 yeah next year you got a contract like that on the books you were sort of being like
hey we're here and we're here to win right so i think you try to re-sign patrick liney
because he's good when he's healthy he's been pretty good for them 24 points in 25 games he
shooting 17 percent this year which is only two percent higher than his career average how crazy
is that yeah like he's one of those guys where you're like well he's shooting high because he
does he's just it's crazy he's good so uh no i i think you try to keep him um i think you keep him
at the number he's at which admittedly might be a bit high but if he's going to score like this
that's the number he should make and if you're 0.5 and if we're comparing it well because i mean
maybe he doesn't want to do that maybe do a longer term deal but like i i would say to patrick line
hey listen i love what you've done this year but let's not forget there was last year and if we're
talking about a long-term contract here i'm going to incur some risk because i've seen you at rock
bottom it's great that you're getting it together here but at the same time we have to acknowledge
that and i if the question was about pierre le dubois contract which he's going to be he's up at
the end of this year remember he signed that two or three year deal for five million bucks before
the trade five million bucks a year uh he's had a pretty good season but he's not like
i mean i don't know how much of a race he's gonna get uh i know he's a center and he's young
but the guy hasn't eclipsed 50 points since 1819 and i know that the covid and everything else
but the reality is that like i'm i think patrick line is gonna get paid more and i think he
deserves to frankly i just think he's more special the thing that he's special at if that's what
we're comparing did we go over his numbers a lot this season who uh pierre luke dubois no line
line is 12 12 and 24 12 and and that's in 25 games pierre luke dubois in 42 games 18 15 33 not bad
he's good like linea's high end is higher than dubois high end yes and that's what you're paying
for right right so to me line a probably gets more although uh the asterisk here it's again
tough ask but if the jets get in to the playoffs i think dubois will be a huge problem and his
number will skyrocket but right now i would say lining at i think you had it about right yeah um
If you're able to get him long-term, maybe you go up to eight.
Yeah.
Something like that.
Yeah, I think so.
And if I'm line A, I might say, I don't know if I want to go long-term.
Sign me to a one-year deal, and then I'm going to destroy the league next year.
Well, because of the leverage that you have over him as an RFA,
if you're Jarmo Kekalainen, you go absolutely not.
I'm not signing you to one year.
Right, and Jarmo Kekalainen is tough on RFAs.
Next question.
This comes from Aiden from Connecticut.
just read that the lightning will be the 27th team to participate in an outdoor game when they play
in the tennessee titans nissan stadium against the preds this february 26th one brief pause from
this question i did not know that there was going to be another outdoor game i didn't either did
anybody else know i guess they're not advertising that in canada i guess i guess makes sense but
That's in, like, two weeks.
I don't know.
Wait.
This year?
Feb 26, according to Aiden from Connecticut,
that the Preds are playing the Preds versus the Lightning in Tennessee.
Oh, cool.
I didn't know that.
Okay, back to the question.
You know, historic rivals that they are.
Central Division.
Thought it would be interesting to see how quickly Stephen Adam
can come up with the names
of the five teams
that haven't gotten the opportunity
to play in an outdoor game.
Okay.
Well, Coyotes.
Because who would watch?
Seattle.
Has Vegas?
I'm going to say they haven't.
The Kings and Ducks have.
I don't think Vegas has.
Not yet.
Even though they should
come up with five teams.
Man, there's so many
dumb outdoor games too.
It's so hard.
I was shocked to learn that there's only five teams
who haven't been in an outdoor game.
I would have thought it would have been more.
I know.
I don't think everybody's had a turn.
Have the Panthers?
I don't think the Panthers have.
You got a hand in your list.
I'm trying to picture their dumb outdoor jerseys,
and I can't picture the Panthers.
There's no Panthers.
There's definitely no Panthers.
So Caroline is getting next year's,
and I don't think they've played outside.
So that's five.
What's your list?
Hand in your list.
Carolina, Florida, Vegas, Seattle, Arizona.
One more time.
Carolina, Florida, Vegas, Seattle, Arizona.
All right.
The correct answer.
Final answer.
Seattle.
Ding, ding, ding.
Arizona.
Ding, ding, ding.
Florida.
Ding, ding, ding.
All right, we passed.
Carolina.
Hey!
Ding, ding, ding.
And Columbus.
Four for five.
Who did we get wrong?
Vegas.
Vegas has had an outdoor game.
Damn it.
Well, it wasn't memorable, was it, Vegas?
Where was it?
I don't know.
Vegas outdoor game.
Let me check.
By the way, how spooky are they going to be when Jack Eichel starts playing games?
I'm so upset.
They're already first.
And a lot of people got mad at me for saying that the division's a weak division.
It's the weakest in hockey.
There are good players in that division and good teams,
but it is the weakest in hockey.
And Vegas is just going to dominate them more than they already have.
Sorry, go ahead, Jess.
The Avalanche played the Golden Knights in the Lake Tahoe outdoor game.
Do you remember that one?
Oh, man!
What's wrong?
That strikes at his soul.
I could care less.
But I know that Steve, that bothers him.
Why are you so hurt?
Because we were so close!
Listen.
You can't be the Jeff Merrick of outdoor games
We were just talking about Columbus
There's no way we would have pictured Columbus
No way
I'm cheesed
4 out of 5 is pretty good
That's not bad
There's a million outdoor games now
I'm going to get heat from Arizona fans
But you guys know what I'm talking about
If they want to have an outdoor game
They need to have good local ratings
You know what I'm saying
They got to have people come out to the game
I think people would go
But I think Arizona would be the visiting team.
Yes.
But what they want to do is they want to have two local markets.
That's why Tampa and Nashville are playing.
Because people watch the Predators and people watch the Lightning.
If you look at the Arizona Coyotes ratings locally, it's terrible.
Doesn't mean that there aren't fans.
It just means that a lot of them are at the game and not watching on TV.
Is that fair?
But don't worry.
You guys will have to watch on TV because there will be limited tickets next year.
And by the way, I don't know if CJ said this on the show,
but I was talking to him about this yesterday.
Do you know that when they move into that arena at Arizona State,
first off, the Arizona State program, like the hockey program,
is pissed about this.
Second, that arena will not be open until December next year
or next season.
So they're going to start like the Islanders did.
They're going to have like three months on the road.
In order to get the arena up to standard, it's going to take a lot of construction.
And the construction, yeah, might not be done until a couple months into the season.
It's the most insane thing.
All they had to do was pay their bills.
It's ridiculous that they had zero foresight in this entire situation.
Because there's another, I forget the name, Memorial something stadium that they have there as well.
they could have played there which is like 10 000 seats but they would also need arena upgrades and
that's going to take about 10 months and they never started that uh they could have just paid
their bills on time and had a current arena for the next three years where they are and just stayed
home and then they could have just waited on their tempe arena which still hasn't been approved
like they still might not have a new arena they'll move to the labretton flats that's where they're
going to be yo that'd be hilarious ottawa that would be hilarious oh yeah anyway yeah it's yeah
it's a disaster i just thought that that was worth mentioning oh yeah december next or this
next season yeah december 2022 just exactly i don't know how we're in february and an nhl team
doesn't have an arena for September.
Well, and you know,
if you look at the models, though, guys,
they might lose less money.
Remember, this might even be better.
Said Gary.
Imagine with a straight face.
Oh, I don't have to imagine it.
It's right there.
We can watch it on replay anytime we want.
You don't think that's a problem, Gary?
It's not.
You don't think that's a problem?
But I sure fucking hate
when people try to stay safe from COVID.
That's a problem.
sure if you if you hook gary bettman up to a lie detector it would generate the
flattest line in the world hey did you guys see on that point did you guys see the season 21 of
south park i've been watching recently because i've been out of date honestly on it's my favorite
show in the whole world and i haven't watched like the last four seasons because i've been you know
everything and so did you you know when mark zuckerberg comes on and he's like overdubbed
himself and then he like fights people and he goes like you know he you know he fights like
the super friends i haven't seen okay so so stuck to my style huh yeah yeah yeah my style mark
zuckerberg on south park reminds me of gary betman that's how i see gary betman i don't see it you
don't see it but i wish he was more like a guy with words it's just a guy with words it's just
words just a bunch of words it's like he's overdubbing i see gary betman as more mark
zuckerberg in real life no he's i think he's the bet bot he's he's the goodell bot yeah yes yes
just oh damn it's broken again man except he's the goodell bot that never breaks
goodell sucks but i think betman might suck more because at least goodell runs the most popular
sport and has maintained
its popularity. It's bigger than ever.
It's bigger than ever. Football is
bigger than it's ever been.
It's traditional television
heaven for advertisers.
You sold your soul for like 11th
place. Yeah, and Bettman,
he sucks and his league
is running behind everybody.
Okay, so when they talked about the LA Rams
stadium, it cost
$4 billion to build
it. Which is $2 billion more
than they were supposed to spend on it.
They spent an extra $2 billion.
And Dallas cost a $1 billion.
Just one.
What shocked me about that is when you really put that in perspective,
yes, you get some concerts in there or whatever.
Eight games is all you're guaranteed.
You built a $4 billion stadium for eight games a season.
Now, you did get the Super Bowl, and yes, they're in the playoffs.
But holy shit, that's a successful league.
The Chargers also play there, so they play 16 games.
Oh, 16 games.
Even so.
The Rams going to the Super Bowl, plus having all these home games.
They played 13 home games this year, which is a crazy number for a team.
But the Cronkies, who I hate because they took my St. Louis Rams.
Right.
He lucked out.
Like, Stan Cronky lucked out with the Rams.
Sure did.
This huge bet on this stadium and everything.
It's gone perfectly these last couple years.
I have to ask you this.
If Matt Stafford wins, and I know nobody wants LA to win except for me.
i just remember being like mass stafford's really good and it sucks he plays in detroit if he wins
he's a hall of fame quarterback right because that's yeah man that's detroit's garbage detroit
was garbage and he was good yeah but then you get in it's a tough argument because it's like okay
the passing numbers now are so inflated so you're reaching a point where uh guys are meeting minimum
passing numbers that guys 20 years ago would have never thought of having and they're just
making the hall of fame like i don't think matt stafford's a hall of famer yet like you have to
win a couple super bowls or something yeah not even a couple super super bowls just put up some
more numbers for a couple more years okay like he hasn't done it long enough for in my book like you
come here one year into to la and you you go to a super bowl and you win uh hopefully on sunday
we'll see but um yeah i don't think the numbers are there yet just the passing and the touchdowns
and he's still matt stafford nobody believes them steve who's your big super bowl pick who do you
think oh man i love this uh the rams and bengals is it that's right yeah burrow versus stafford
you would love joey burrs yeah you would he's a good dude he's your type of guy he's a cigar guy
right yeah the the guy you were in high school wearing your exco jeans like that joe joey burrs
is the 2022 version of that yeah oh he's a dork all right yeah but he's a dork nobody's kind of
got a bit of style yeah no he's not a dork he's cool he's wear Cartier glasses you know oh he's
me if I were confident yeah there you go um he's what you thought you were in your Eddie George
jersey you know what I mean like no he's what I hoped to be exactly there you go but it's there
all right so I'm a Bengals I'm Bengals man what's your pick I don't know Bengals so congrats to the
rams but the rams also have the best wide receiver in the game they have cooper cup they've got odell
and he's back being odell odell's good again miraculous turnaround they have aaron donald
who you might have seen like his workout videos he's probably the most jacked nfl player in history
of time probably best defensive player the way the way i get my football highlights is there's
a dude on tiktok who just recaps games and rips them and he calls them oh hell no i beckham
and just for every play.
So I was just like,
ah, I actually knew that.
I knew he was still playing
and going to the Super Bowl.
Oh, hell no, Beckham.
He's going to catch.
He's going to catch
the Super Bowl winning football catch.
Touchdown?
Yes.
When is it?
Is it this Sunday?
It's this Sunday.
On CTV.
Chicken wings.
CTV.
One of the most interesting things
about Steve, I think,
as a sportsman,
is he can talk about basketball.
He can talk about some baseball.
he can talk about UFC
he'll listen to me talk about auto racing
which is nice but
when it comes to football for whatever
reason there's just not the connection there
you know sometimes you meet somebody it's like you're gonna really
like this person and then you meet them and you're like I don't really
connect with them that's Steven football I don't get it
I don't know why but it's just never worked out
between the two of you and when I watch
it I enjoy it that's the weird thing
I feel like I could get into it more
I think we gotta I want to take you guys to a Steelers
game I've been talking about that for years
I think we need to get down to Pittsburgh
and do a Steelers game
and do a Penguins game.
So you do like a Penguins game
on the Friday
and then you party
and then you do
and then you recover Saturday
because we're old
and then Sunday
you do the Steelers game
and then you get out of town.
That's a good time.
I'm always down for a good time.
Yeah, okay.
And you do it,
like listen,
we could do it when it's cold
but it's more fun
in like September
when it's still 20 degrees outside
and a riot.
Change of idea.
What's that?
We hit up Buffalo in December.
Oh!
we do a sabers game on a friday then minus 25 bills on a sunday yeah let's go tage thompson
let's go ready we'll set a table on fire to warm ourselves and then we'll put ourselves through it
but but only after we're warmed up yeah man if you want to if you want to be a real tough guy
go see a bills game bills mafia crazy anyway no i've been down to bills games but only in uh early
november slash late october i went to one in it was mid-december and it was the it was it was a
while ago it was the flutie years uh and flutie just had just an unbelievable game and it was so
much fun like bills fans are nuts they're crazy and that team was pretty good um and it's so it's
so much better i feel like it would be akin to like what seeing the eagles would be like when
the eagles are good i don't think you want to be there when the eagles are not good no because it's
scary yeah you know there's something about philly you know you're just like oh could this this yeah
like i've seen the snowball videos yeah yes well like think about what it's like to be a flyers
fan what it's like going to a flyers game right now oh oh that's terrible because flyers fans
do not accept bullshit and this season's been bullshit for them i don't know man i'm sure i'm
sure being a player or a coach on that team could not be fun i'll i'll never forget that islanders
game we went to when we had the box and it was the worst leafs game i've ever seen what year was
that 2015 that was the yeah and tavaris scored against the leafs in overtime it was two to one
and this would be three seasons before yeah it was 14 15 i think it was the horacek year yeah
it was like at the end of the year too
it was so bad and we were talking about it on the podcast
it was so bad this was the first time the Leafs
hadn't sold out a game in 30 years
remember we said the issue that they have
right now is apathy nobody
fucking cares and that summer they went out and
drafted Marner and then they played
another season and then the next
year they drafted Matthews
not bad
not bad at all anyway we'll wrap it up
there listen
it was so much fun love you guys
Steve, you're going to be back Friday, you think, in person, maybe, possibly?
That's – if we follow all the guidelines and all that, everyone's negative still.
Yeah, I should be back Friday.
Okay.
Well, we're looking forward to seeing you in person.
That'll be fun.
It'll be a great Friday show unless the Blackhawks fuck it up for us in the news cycle before that.
So we love you.
We will see you Friday.
Enjoy your week.
