whoa ladies and gentlemen the zameth that's sick the new uh uh salt lake city mammoth
zamboni i should have i thought they should have called it the mamboni but they've called it the
zameth the zam mam biff bone no i think they got it i think it's the mamboni the mamboni yeah
hmm hmm but it's very cool now there is actually there's a video we can play uh just no audio but
of them making it which is pretty sick and i you know what i love about uh what ryan smith
is doing there he's doing anything creative right like what do you mean like the sharks have had the
shark head and they that's that's been since the early 90s even the painted on shark on their
zambonis is cool yeah but there's other teams that are like no it's just a zamboni i can't
No, here's a vehicle.
Let's slap a Sobeys ad on it.
Yeah, 100%.
Let's just sell the ad space, right?
Whereas they're like, no, let's make a tank-looking thing
that's going to scrape our ice.
It's incredible.
Absolutely.
And I did not expect Utah to be the place
where all the fun was happening.
And yet here we are.
Well, Utah is the New Vegas, is what they're saying.
They have pop, you see.
They have pop.
That's true.
That's true.
I don't know if they get that.
because they don't say pop do they say soda they say soda yeah yeah we say pop um but here we go
uh this is them making it with milwaukee tools uh so they're gonna oh there's a piece of piece
of metal falling in the ground and there's a side shot of it they shouldn't be with utah they welded
this thing on by the way welded and screwed and oh look at that fiber optic cables to light it up
oh my goodness hold on let let them just show the whole thing it's big is it possible to how
much do the tusks stick out is it possible to bash these things into the boards i'm sure it is
dude that looks so sick that's so unbelievably cool and you can still slap a logo on it brought
to you by oreos right on the tusk yeah the zameth no they got it zameth cooked pretty sweet huh
that's sick yeah that is sick that is great i want a giant leaf i want a giant ch logo i have
giant i think you know everything i was thinking like what other teams would do because you can't
put a giant leaf on it it'll look kind of dumb i think you could put like a leaf legend be like
this is the daryl sittler zamboni for the season no no it's just him breaking out of the zamboni
no you can't just have a person why not because then you get into what the brampton battalion did
which is a mascot that was just a scary looking man which i hated a lot he's still pretty sarge
terrifying absolutely horrific uh like yeah no there's so much potential you know who can kill
this the wings oh the wings one would be sick red wings could you would you make it would you make
it just like like tires and the and the flames coming out or would you do would you do like an
actual bird you could make it the octoboni the octoboni you can make it the octoboni it'd be fun
now the problem with the octoboni is all the the tentacles would have to go up front because
otherwise you're gonna smash that against the board yeah but he could be his his tentacles
could be up in the air holding the cup the cup which they've done could even be a cup on each
tentacle let's get nuts maybe a cup for each how many cups is detroit one six i think it's eight
so you could have a cup for octopus the octopony yeah for each tentacle there could be holding a
cup that's a great idea the wild jesse what do you think are we on to something here yeah you
praised ryan smith like good on him for doing this and they retrofitted the that's a zamboni
from the 2002 olympic games wow they had it laid in the back and they're like okay let's make use
of this and they come up with that but i want if i could ask him a question i'd ask him why do you
have to steal from better organizations oh because this whole thing it's now that they have the zam
it there you can ride it during intermission hell yeah sick where are they currently doing that and
have been doing it for years oh that'd be norcal it'd be san jose san jose have had their shark
zamboni for years and steve dangle had the honor of riding look at that last season here he is
riding the shark
intermission of a
Kings Sharks game when
the San Jose Sharks
invited us down to San
Jose last year this was
Rangers how dare you oh
was it the Rangers was
the rain that was the
Rangers game sorry my
bad Steve Dango rode the
Zamboni which is
retrofitted to look like
a shark yes thank you
for stealing from a much
better organization Ryan
Smith in the Utah mammoth
the future at first future is getting ripped off exactly put some respect stolen on the shark zoni
the shark no maddie put it back up we gotta watch steve go around let's let's see let's watch the
shark bony look at that yeah jacks he knows it he knows it that guy driving the zamboni was not
interested in my shoes this is so ridiculous he was he was not interested places to be
wearing his dangle 20 jersey i know i love that you got you didn't get a player like i got
i got smith jesse got celebrated like me forget that i didn't get a player how about they had a
man in his 30s on the samboni instead of some child hey at least you didn't have to pay a
thousand dollars to do it yeah i know yeah the lease would have charged money for this yeah
yeah thank you yeah they would have had a card reader like as soon as i'm getting off the ice
all right steve uh do you remember the other guy you're with he was so pumped to do it oh
at the barracuda yeah no at the shark no there was another guy on the back oh my god he was
like shaking he was on the other zamboni and he was like the same age yes yes two grown men we
were just two grown men like this is the best yeah but like you're grown men but this is still
a cool experience yeah hell yeah who cares what your age is you can be excited for these i got
to ride the damn bony exactly and you flexed for the camera i did so everyone knows i'm a big
strong boy anyways the mammoth you guys are the stealers come up with new ideas yeah yeah stealers
could stealers could do something you know what i'm out on the thief bony how dare that's what
we should call it oh wow well them up fraud beef bony fraud bony hey uh in that division the vegas
golden knights are four oh and oh under john tortorella they allowed a uh franchise record
10 shots against last night with the van absolutely no one should be surprised hilariously the vancouver
canucks were up one nothing at one point yes uh but that didn't last and interestingly the oilers
lost to the mammoth in overtime buddy what did i say about how this is potentially a great little
pocket for them if i'm not mistaken the john giordano golden knights have played the canucks
flames oilers and then canucks again yeah oh yeah it's it's a great stretch and great great way to
welcome a coach to it now they have the crack in tomorrow which they should be yo one of the most
disappointing teams in the league no question and then holy cow and then on saturday a tough
matchup against the avalanche you but today the edmonton oilers are the head of the pacific
division the golden knights have home ice advantage they also have 88 points oilers 88
gold knights 88 surprised i thought vegas would be on top and falling out of not only the division
lead this week but also out of home ice advantage in the playoffs are the anaheim ducks losers of
six straight guys fizzling adam they're fizzling what you're not believing hard enough this is
is on you is this on me they have the most wins of all those teams the other two teams are overtime
loss merchants vegas gold knights have 16 overtime losses that's equivalent to eight wins the oilers
have 10 overtime losses that's equivalent to five wins the ducks have five overtime losses equivalent
to two and a half no the ducks are merchants of overtime and shootout wins yes but they win
because the other teams have more regulation wins but they win them mean more no spit it i like my
way better they are merchants of losing their last four games is what they're they are oh i
thought they lost six straight i'm wrong and in the process like that's how you blow a lead very
quickly vegas wins four you lose four crazy that's it that's all it takes and the mammoth
have won four straight they're seven three and oh in their last 10 the predators also won last night
and they like walloped the ducks and the ducks by the way got booed on home ice see it is it
doesn't just happen in toronto the ducks got booed on home ice i think we need to have a
referendum on ducks fans are they is it too hard to play are they should they be allowed to have a
team i don't know i don't know if that's how they're gonna treat players yeah how are you
gonna expect anyone to hey is the clock ticking on cutter goche let's have the conversation good
question the conversation it's a uh it's a very very interesting thing um that what's happening
right now the the Edmonton Oilers last night I want to talk a little bit about because this is
I think game six or game seven in his last eight where Tristan Jari has allowed at least five goals
that's insane it's a lot I don't think he hits the ice in the playoffs I don't think you well
I don't think you can no like in a backup role even because they can I still don't really
understand the new playoff cap rules but surely their tandem is going to be ingram pickard yeah
your lineup uh your lineup has to be cap compliant that's it that's that's my understanding of it
yeah well there it is yeah isn't it yeah so it's not it's not like the regular season you could
still get away with having because that's why a lot of teams will carry three goalies and put a
league minimum goalie in there like a calvin pickard's close to what i think is a million
dollars a year and it's 775 as league men yeah so that way you could dress everybody we called
this a year ago yeah of course of course now the uh the breakdown yesterday just it's i like connor
mcdavid scored one of the most unbelievable end-to-end rush goals um and the oilers at that
point were up to nothing nuge made it three or three to one excuse me and then you have schmaltz
and cooley right off the top of the second period i don't know if you guys caught any of this game
but it just never felt like the mammoth were out of it and this is a potential now first round
matchup these two teams i don't want to take anything away from the mammoth but like no
oilers game has ever done like compliment and derogatory right it's how they roll right that's
how they roll and that was a problem long before tristan jari got there right so i'm not gonna
oh yeah people labeled that with stewart skinner too yeah i'm not gonna plop it all on his lap but
like yeah it's it's bad man it's bad and the mammoth not bad and it wasn't a late game tie
up it was 12 56 of the third where alexander kerfoot some guy we've never heard of um tied
it up with his sixth goal of the season the new bozak is that what you call him yeah because
kerfoot is 25 oh wait nope sorry he's like 30 or something right yeah now the oilers have got to
play an interesting
schedule the rest of this week. They got the Sharks tomorrow.
That's
an interesting matchup. Sharks are charging.
They're charging and
they're in must-win territory
every game. Then they get the
Kings on
Saturday. That should be an absolute
banger in terms of goal
score. Like both teams cannot defend.
Hammer the over. I was about to say it's a must-win
game for the Kings, which means they're
going to allow six goals. That's a one o'clock
start in the in the west and a 4 p.m start in the east so we'll get to see them early um but i'm i'm
looking at the vegan vegas golden knights week and i'm looking at the edmonton oilers week kraken
avalanche or sharks kings who's got the battered week in terms of matchups that are favorable to
you hit me with that again okay so golden knights have kraken avalanche bad and good
the oilers have two teams that are fringe right sharks and kings
i'd probably rather play sharks kings jesse what would you rather do
what is the first one it is kraken and avalanche oh yeah give me the second one you give this give
the kings aren't good no no they're not they're not the right now the kraken couldn't beat a dusty
rug but kraken aren't good either they lost five they were in a playoff race like a couple days
ago and then they lost five in a row it's insane it's a disaster let's acquire like you couldn't
have done a better job acquiring bobby mcfan he's probably not the biggest point getter since the
deadline of people that were traded one of the hottest players you've literally ever had as a
franchise and how many games has he won as a crack in three it's disgusting um but the abs are the
abs yeah i'm just trying to avoid the abs i guess in the four teams the options there the other way
i was looking at it was okay well you could almost put a stamp on the kraken game because
they're playing that bad right yeah they've been awful so at least then you're guaranteed two out
of a possible four this is the thought because then you got two desperate french teams i was
like oh that's why i might go golden knights right yeah that's babcock logic yeah all right
michael hutchinson plays the second half of the back-to-back every game that's babcock logic
right because you try to secure the first two it's it's going to be very very interesting all
the way to the end here about obviously what happens in the pacific and as connor mcdavid
famously called it it's a pillow fight they still nobody in the pacific has over 90 points yet um
they will uh every other division so the eastern the top three teams in the eastern uh sorry in
the atlantic division have 102 and they're all tied and we'll get to that that's crazy the top
three teams in the central have 112 104 and 102 that's awesome and the metro has a team in at 106
the penguins are at 96 and the flyers at 92 and then you've got three teams still in the 80s in
the top three on the pacific side that's man that i don't think we've ever seen that before
uh not that i can recall no i like i haven't seen a conference this lopsided and i'd have to look
so then my question is and i'm a little freaked out about this okay
can the Leafs make the LA Kings have a game in hand on the Anaheim Ducks
and the Kings are not great but the Ducks have not played great don't do it they have 83 points
the Ducks have 87 don't do it Jesse and Steve is there any chance the Kings have won two straight
any chance that the Kings catch the Ducks and the Ducks find themselves on the outside there's no
that would be catastrophic yeah there's they'd have to almost lose every game for the rest of
season four straight so they've already lost four so they have to go on an eight game losing streak
to end the season could happen man it could happen we've seen pro sports but we've seen
crazier i don't think it happens yeah i don't think it i think the cutoff in that division
is like 91 points so just win two games 91 points to what make the play make the playoffs
oh i think you're grossly overshooting it you think so yeah well we got two teams at 88 and
at 87 with four games to go 91 seems like that's the lock right now mathematically yeah to win the
division oh so i'm not joking i'm not joking man it is a there's a reason connor mcdavid called it
a pillow fight i have no idea who's making it there the one i think i'll bank on happening
is that the kings get into the playoffs ahead of the predators looking at really yeah i think i'm
taking the kings right now to win that last spot in the western conference i think the schedule is
so easy for them coming up who are they playing canucks oilers crack in canucks flames oh my god
i think that is a good run there for them and they're gonna scoop up a whole bunch of points
plus they have a game in hand on the predators so if you count one of those if you count that
next game and against the canucks as a win then they're already ahead of them and i think they'll
be able to maintain that lead i'll throw it out there if they don't make it they don't deserve to
yeah because i mean you gotta you should win four out of the next five at least at least and with so
many veterans on that team like panarin and kopitar is going out this is last season i don't think
he's going to go out with a loss to the kraken canucks and flames to miss the playoffs yeah that
doesn't make sense to me i think nashville is going to lose that spot to the kings so you got
10 points up for grabs what do we think they're gonna get i think they should get eight they
should get eight i'm gonna say seven okay just because that's i think oilers how life was
saturday but i think the kraken canucks and flames will be out by next week and obviously
the canucks are already out i don't know if you heard this stat the canucks have set have already
locked in their worst home record ever already already this will be the worst home record they've
ever had oh uh and uh right now it's 8 27 and 5 listen the panthers are getting the first overall
pick we already know that but the canucks deserve they do yo can you imagine you went to one of the
eight canuck victories at home this year one of eight i want to know if there is someone
out there likely in bc who is eight no
yeah right you'd have to prove that you would absolutely and you have to not be at any of the
losses that's right that's right i want someone to prove that's a good point that's a good one
i like that i don't know how you would prove that you weren't at the losses you got to show us the
ticket stubs from the ones you were at yeah you have to at least show us those that someone's
gonna be like i was at all eight wins and 21 of the losses yeah exactly like no i need someone
who was eight no or like was is how many Canucks fans were better than three you know even that
that is a good question three and there's only eight out of 41 yeah well they haven't even do
they hit 10 do they hit 10 uh I don't think so no shot um the other question I had so Jesse you
say LA Kings over the Preds right in the wild card okay here's a team that has two games in
hand on the Preds and a game in hand on the Kings.
They are two points behind the Kings,
three points behind the Preds.
And that is our friends,
the San Jose Sharks.
Can they,
they're sick,
five,
four and one in their last 10.
I want them to obviously.
Do you,
do you have any faith that this team has enough juice in the tank to just
get it over the line?
It'd be a hell of a story.
I mean,
I got faith,
but like the King schedule,
like you said schedule matters yeah i if i'm picking any of those teams it's the kings to
make the playoffs i think the sharks have been a little too wishy-washy over this last stretch for
me to bank on them going on a mini run here to make the playoffs and having all the teams ahead
of them lose as well i gotta hear their schedule i gotta hear uh okay so they've got six games
remaining shark that's good already advantage sharks oilers tonight 10 10 o'clock that's tough
that's tough sharks ducks tomorrow wowza big game desperate ducks team this will these these
two nights will make or break their season big game uh then you got canucks saturday
well you need that one you got predators monday big game blackhawks wednesday and then they finish
off against the jets who are out essentially not an easy schedule i think jesse's right
oh boy oh boy it's got this the the great thing about a tight race is like uh the out of market
games are nuts like when was the last time you were like there's a sharks preds game on a week
night and i was like oh right as an ontario resident yes that is not a normal reaction to
have but oh yeah that's interesting i'm into it okay all right um i i feel like i got asked this
question every show and i'm going to continue to ask it as of right now today won't hold you to
this who wins the pacific vegas vegas they're four and oh they're just there's red hot they're four
and oh oilers goalie situation so weird i don't know what team is showing up on any given night
with edmonton and vegas is like we said riding the new coach bump they were either gonna go
eight no or oh and eight and they they chose jesse who wins the pacific division i'll take
the oilers yeah i think they're playing well enough hockey that they can hold off the golden
knights all right i'm gonna say the ducks damn it they're gonna climb back they're gonna win
every game maybe uh now i want to uh i just want to make a quick note of this uh oilers are expected
to sign a fifth rounder from 2020 who's turned into a pretty good player uh maxim bearskin uh
or brezhkin uh i don't know exactly how to pronounce it but he's been playing in russia
for the last few years and wanted to complete finishing his contract out there 32 points
in 64 games he had 42 in 66 last year with yaroslavl and actually won the gagarin cup
so he is 24 years old and comes in with some puck moving and stuff i imagine he'll be like
sort of a lower in the lineup piece but not bad for a fifth rounder 24 years old love it yeah i
mean it's we're we're at that that time in the season where we're so focused on the um on the
races that it's good there's gonna be like literally two games left in the season and
teams are gonna be like oh and we just got a new player and we're throwing them in watch and i'm
sure there's lots of local noise there but like there's not you know how many people cared that
like nize was joining the leafs nobody cares ago or like caulfield was nagarude i think was another
one that just kind of yeah um that's uh nikishin also for the nikishin yeah um very interesting
nikishin nikishin is it nikishin some people are saying some people it's actiama steven it is not
and i will die on that hill here lies steve correct pronouncer of at least one name steve
what do you know about the toyota tacoma i know that it's the most powerful tacoma ever jesse
what do you know about the toyota tacoma i know everything steve knows that's right 6400 pounds
of towing capacity it is the most powerful tacoma ever so whether you're hauling gear to the rink
or heading to an away game,
you can tackle it with ease.
And remember, you've got
the multi-view panoramic monitor
that kind of lives
underneath the floor
so you can make sure that,
you know, you watch out for things.
Maybe make sure you don't
hit a curb or whatever.
Or, you know, off-roading.
It's also great
because it got the power liftgate.
We love that,
especially when you're carrying stuff
and you don't have time
to put the stuff down.
Maybe it's in the snow or the rain
and you just want the liftgate
to go down.
That's great.

the 10-speaker JBL premium audio system,
so when Steve yells into the microphone,
you hear it crisp and clear,
and it doesn't explode in your car.
A little bit of bass for you.
That's right.
And there's also a 14-inch touchscreen,

And that's where TaskRabbit comes in.
And I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows.

I don't have the stuff because you've got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals.
You've got to have the right chemicals.
See, that's what I'm saying.
And that's why I used TaskRabbit and I employed a tasker.

Now, I don't know if you guys have seen this,
but they released this as promo,
so I'm pretty sure we're allowed to play it.
Jesse, you can tell me if you have it, if we can't.
Okay.
The Oilers put out on Oilers Plus the War Room
before they traded with Chicago for Dickinson and Dock.
Interesting.
I don't know if we can use that.
It's behind a paywall, so it's not advertising supported?
I don't know.
Jesse will tell me.
Well, if it's behind a paywall, surely we can't show it for free.
It's promo, though.
It's promo.
Oh, you mean, sorry, the clip is not behind a paywall.
No, we should be all right playing this clip here.
It's fair use.
Yeah.
So here's how the trade deadline went.
And this Stan Bowman is your general manager in this scenario.
So you're not an Oilers fan.
Now you are.
How do you feel about this conversation?
It's about two minutes long.
Give them our first.
Then they give us Dickinson at half price.
And they give us Doc.
And they take Mangiapane.
Everything in one deal.
one stock shop that's what I'm trying I think that would get Kyle's attention
because he's not gonna get a first anywhere else and I think it gives us
enough money that we could still have Szymanski I was just looking at this
separately we have to go through it all to see yeah I think Colton would be
great for us I don't think there's any question just as a role player and
and brings a lot of energy, and he's still an asset.
I like the energy part.
He's always been different than his brother.
He's been more like the rugged, power-forward, you know?
The personality part is, like, it seems like a minor piece,
but on this team, it's like, it's not.
He gets here, he gets excited, home, playoff team.
189 hits in 53 games.
I just talked to the final.
Chicago would do that deal if we wanted to do it.
First-round pick, and they keep half of,
this is what we talked about, Dickinson, half-price, Doc,
and they take Bonjifan.
Chris really likes Dickinson for the reason that he's, like,
exactly what we want, which is he's a third-line center,
and he's a penalty killer.
Like, he's the player that we're looking for.
yes we're not building a fantasy team what you see is exactly what he is he's a pro he's very
dedicated to his craft he takes pride in the details and being a defensive guy and a penalty
kill guy that's the music to my ears when he's saying we're saying hey he accepts his role like
that's what we're really really don't have and if you're rolling the dice with the guy you don't
know right that's my so that that clip featured not just stan bowman and jeff jackson conor
mcdavid's former agent but also danny ryland who used to run the uh nwhl i had absolutely no idea
she was with the oilers she's a pro scout there and then of course keith gretzky as you mentioned
because there always has to be a gretzky on the oil completely forgot about the concerning thing
about watching that clip to me is all of the platitudes that just come out of these hockey
people's mouths talking about oh he's a good pro he accepts his role he has a lot of energy
these are just words you say about hockey players you like and they don't really mean anything i i
like to think that when we talk about hockey and analyzing guys we go deeper than just saying
man that guy he's a good player he works hard you know i feel like you should be have more analysis
than that and when i hear the people who are making the actual trades describe players like
that i i hesitate to think that they are not any smarter than anybody else watching well they're
not what they're not listen they're not colton dock of the chicago blackhawks is not his brother
who plays for the habs what that like why is that relevant what so what pardon when just
hearing keith gretzky being like yeah i like that when you when you tell me music to my energy guy
music to my ears i anybody could sit there and say that and the thing is jason dickinson this
was supposed to be trent frederick that's what he was supposed to do what jason dickinson is doing
a little bit right be the low lower end center and you know what this was supposed to be was
a trade with the leafs and the leaf screwed it up god's sake but okay so i did see some defense of
this clip there was like what you think they're going to show you everything that's just a two
minute clip that is fair that's fair it is fair counterpoint they're the ones who released it
i i assume conversations are different when there aren't cameras there and this is the only thing
i've seen from oilers plus in the war room so it is it is a little unfair to judge two minutes of
the conversation but i think we got a good sense of the conversation like i don't know i'm trying
to give them some rope here in that like i'm not judging your entire career and how you analyze
how you analyze hockey players based on this one two minute clip where you might have talked for
30 seconds in that like i'm not going to say danny rylan knows nothing beyond hit stats like i can't
make those jumps but i can say that it's a little disconcerting hearing the guys who are making the
actual trades have just the most boring hockey conversation and not citing anything deeper i
would hope they have a stack of analytics available to them like i i'll go on i'll look at speed bursts
and that sort of stuff and just on the nhl public data i hope they have their proprietary data that
they have available to them readily when they're trying to make these trades and they can see how
things match and i hope that that stuff just didn't doesn't make the internet what i want to
know is how much hockey how much non-oilers hockey these guys watch and i'm obviously
applying that to every team i'd like to know how much non-leaf hockey the leaf scouts and blah blah
blah but like having worked in this industry at least on the media side for a while there's only
24 hours in a day yeah these guys have the same 24 hours the rest of us do but that's what you
have scouts for that's why that's why you have your pro scouts right they watch the league for
you and in these moments they can tell you about these other players because they've seen them play
but do these gms listen to their scouts or do they go nah because remember stan had these guys
while he was in chicago so i don't think he had jason dickinson he definitely had colton doc i
think he would have been the one to draft him at minimum i think he would have been
was he the one who drafted his brother a black hawk in 2223 i'm pretty sure stan was there
that damn yeah that timeline is all i don't know i forget i believe he would have had the docs
at minimum like i imagine he still knows people there oh yeah if you really want to have fun with
and put a tinfoil hat on oh you're right he was not there odd that stan bowman was so willing to
go above market value with the chicago blackhawks is there maybe a favor being done there i don't
know i don't know about all that either but if you wanted to be a conspiracy theorist about it
you certainly could um i think you're right that the best analysis comes from watching the games
and then seeing the numbers behind that but you need to definitely see players play and i don't
imagine jeff jackson has seen a lot of all of the other teams around the league and that's why he's
got to trust the people around him who he pays to go watch the games yes yeah like oh look he's got
179 hits like to me everyone in the room should be like yeah we know yeah we also know that
information it there should be no sound of surprise in your voice yeah you know what i mean
i guess listen i don't doubt that everyone who works for an nhl team is some version of a rink
rat right like you you go to a ton of games and and everything uh i just i try to think back to
the the draft story that uh brian burke told about morgan riley where riley only played 17 games that
year um with a busted leg as a defenseman matt schaefer style and he asked someone from his
staff to cut every single morgan riley shift right you should be doing that for everybody
should you not yeah yeah this cutting like highlights for shifts anymore isn't something
that not hard a team needs to do because of the systems they have in place like every play is
kind of categorized now uh through the the the back-end systems that they have and anything you
want to be able to look up you can't just really born's book um i think it's called down and back
uh because he was the leaves video guy and he talked about like he's the one who constructed
that system he's the one who clipped everything that is a really good insight into how teams do
this going to the games is almost an inefficient way of scouting yeah in a way you know in a way
i mean you have to know all these players like the trade deadline comes around every year and
this applies to the oilers it applies to everybody every year oh they're in on this guy and they're
in on this guy and then the list is like 15 people long and i'm like i don't trust that you actually
know 15 of these people i don't the the clipping thing is something that i know from experience and
has only gotten better since i worked in that role but as a social media manager you have access to
every highlight and it's all just at the tip of your fingertips so if you work for the raptors
and you want to look up scotty barnes dunks you can punch into a computer and it'll show you every
scotty barnes dunk and you can just throw that into whatever highlight you need so if the social
media managers have that kind of tools the scouts better have that plus tenfold in terms of what
they need in terms of like zone entries or or whatever specific stats they need so when somebody
says hey he's he got this many hits the next step should be okay but what do those hits mean because
i i hear that i'm like okay he gets a lot of hits but there's different hits it means different like
if you played michael posetta 12 minutes a night he's gonna rack up a lot of hits but he'll be out
there running around doing a lot it's like hits per 60 should be off the chart but is he contributing
in different ways by being that energy guy and getting all those hits keifer sherwood is a player
who's gonna rack up a ton of hits but he's doing it in a much more i'd say efficient way where he's
also contributing to the play and scoring and doing all these other things so that hit stats
is very important to tell you about the player and then now it's your job to go deeper and it's
like what do all those hits mean so i i assume they are doing those things if i'm sitting here
doing that i at least hope that they are doing those things in that room and we're just not
seeing that because that's a two-minute clip do you feel that guys what's that do you feel that
this room is just full of hot air with all of us spouting off we've forgotten the most important
factor what's the game closest to this clip being released is one that the oilers lost
and that is why this clip is being viewed negatively if they had one no one would give
a damn yeah maybe maybe yeah you might be right i we never hear about these clips where we're like
oh that's a smart team yeah i think it's always when they release the clip and they look smart
there's not a story there i need to see the story is the story is not that they're smart it's when
teams come across as not smart remember the the uh the bruins clip that was legendary back in the
day where they traded segan because of does he fit our culture does he fit our culture that's
right does this second overall pick fit our culture well well here's what i need to see
how many cups does he want steve one outside of boston oh none exactly soon to be so it was them
they were right i here's what i need to see the bruins last year you can shut up and shut up it's
brad hello yes brandon carlo's still available top 10 no i don't think we can do that i think
we're gonna we're gonna do top five protection and uh well there's 90 seconds left before the
deadline so it's really take it or leave it there do we not have parts of that clip do we isn't that
the shanahan one where he comes in he's like do the deal yeah is that is that not yeah but i need
to see their end i need to see their boss yeah we have the leafs end where he's like just fucking do
it i'm sick enough to sync them up oh yeah that'd be awesome can you imagine that would be quite if
both themes released it in theory you could do that yeah yeah by the way i do want to say this
i'm glad the oilers release shit like this 100 which is why part of me is like don't dunk on
them too hard yeah we need this content we need this stuff and if we just keep shitting on them
how eager are they are they going to be or they could just keep doing it and it gets normal and
nobody loses their minds the reason people dunk is because it is abnormal it is it is they this
is awesome and i'm glad we have an insight into this and yeah if it becomes a twitter storm every
single time they're gonna stop doing these things so yeah maybe we don't pile on the oilers yeah
counterpoint everything's a twitter storm like that's true there is an element where like oh
man everyone's mad at us and you do have to look at it and go that's kind of the baseline for that
social platform yeah everybody's mad what i would want to see is this in comparison to an eric
tolsky war room how do how are the i'd say older guys in edmonton running their trade discussions
in comparison to a more forward-thinking front office in Carolina.
Well, the guys in Carolina are not talking to each other.
They're on their calculators.
And they're going, beep, boop, beep, boop, beep, boop, boop,
and playing The Sims and stuff like that.
They're not doing any of this talk.
We've seen a little bit of what Kyle Dubas does behind the scenes.
The police have released these videos.
But I'd like to see him now in charge
and not having Brendan Shanahan at his hip
trying to run things through Kyle.
I'd like to see his Pittsburgh war room.
It'd be interesting to compare the different front offices
if every team were able to release stuff like this.
This is fascinating.
I think it would be footage, it'd be calculators,
and it would be Kyle Dubas fist-sized holes in the wall
because that guy runs hot.
Yeah, he does. He does.
What did you guys think of the report,
speaking of Carolina,
that Nashville requested to speak to Eric Tolsky?
And the Carolina Hurricanes were like, no.
But I think in that scenario,
uh nashville would have wanted him because it has to be a move up to get into your contract
they would have wanted him to be president wow he's already getting president test i assume the
leafs will ask goes well for a press yeah why not carolina will say no i mean that would be
sick you know imagine tulsky meta you should ask julian breezewell
you ask them all why wouldn't you ask julian the worst they can say is no and you are in the
same position you are in just go ask it doesn't hurt let's keep saying names matthew darsh yes
get him i'm not joking i'm not either i'm not either i think you should genuinely ask and if
if there's an opportunity to take a good talent and make them president why not the lightning are
going to tell you to go f yourself but i do think you got to ask the question you'd be stupid not to
and it's funny so many teams are right we learned that a lot of like even trades get facilitated by
the agents not the gms in a lot of cases because they just don't talk to me here's something that
definitely didn't happen kyle dubas definitely didn't have a job lined up in pittsburgh when
he was thinking about sitting at a podium after uh a tough loss no of course and retiring from
the leafs and saying i'm gonna never go back to hockey again he definitely didn't know that
possibly he could become president of the what do you mean he didn't know he was gonna make seven
million dollars a year for the next seven years jesse there's a lot what do you mean you can go
out and not tamper and talk to these guys and make requests and maybe you get one we can we can
acknowledge that dubas is doing a good job in pittsburgh and even did a good job in toronto
without the revisionist history of uh he's like yeah i just i don't know i don't know
about like working that's literally what he said before then taking on a bigger job yes he was
contemplating just walking off into the desert and never coming back to anything ever it's i'm done
with everything i don't know if i should work right now versus several months later he becomes
president who should i name gm oh me um and the same thing applies not to just poke at dubas the
same thing applies to brendan shanahan because as the reports are to be believed he had brad
living in his back pocket just in case this kyle dubas thing went sideways and he went with him
that's why there was no real uh interview process and big discovery for the next gm because brendan
knew after brad left calgary and they had their big parting of ways and people in calgary are
still upset about it the people who work there um he knew that he could get true living for that job
so once kyle dubas was like i don't want i want to be a monk uh he knew like i can just go get
brad and he did that you know if this these things work in both ways and they work around the league
everybody's talking everybody like just i just want to say brandon shanahan's tenure in toronto
just as an aside sure kind of uh was like game of thrones first three four seasons were just
excellent and then it started to degrade a little bit and then the last season was absolutely
objectively painful uh and but the last couple of years got really sort of wonky and weird and
everybody wasn't really fully like is this weird or am i weird oh you mean like the arc of the
seasons of game of thrones yeah like the actual content yeah no i thought you're gonna call him
like little fingers well no no he's the arc of the season like the quality of the season you
know that you know that meme where the horse is written beautifully and then someone tries to
finish it off like that's shanahan's tenure yeah that's pretty accurate you didn't oh okay so
dubas is gonna go and you're not gonna interview someone he knew he had a brad brother brad left
calgary that was his plan and i know the leafs haven't done very well since shanahan departed
but it's like oh like we haven't done well because shanahan left us with this well it's like he's
managing the grill at a barbecue and it's like uh get shanny off the grill like he he kind of
burnt some stuff and then the next person on the grill is just no one yeah and everything gets
completely incinerated and we go man you know what shanny was pretty good at his job no it's just that
having no one on the barbecue
is a bad idea.
Beliefs have missed a president
dearly. Yes.
I'm not usually the one on this show

than Gillette Fusion 5.
It is at the same facility
of perfect blade making
that it's been at

They control the process.
Steel to shelf.
That's how they keep the cost.
They had razors 100 years ago?
They did.
That's crazy.

let's uh brandon shanahan's name came up yesterday because the new jersey devils announced that tom
fitzgerald uh was let go and like as soon as our show got published it is the longest it is oh was
that two days ago now wow yeah um it was like an hour after the show all the interviews happened
yesterday which is why i think i got confused but i do want to say this is the longest statement
ever i'm not going to read it um because fucking if you really want to read it that bad they fired
tom they made the statement by who the blitzer family uh the blitzers and yeah devil's managing
partner david blitzer announced today that tom fitzgerald will depart the organization
and then and then they get proceeded to give his entire resume with the organization and then said
we had a thoughtful conversation he is a well-respected leader after blah blah blah blah
who cares now uh i do care about this lee fans you are interested for two reasons number one
shanny could take over the devils and number two sheldon keith was told you are under probation
essentially you are we are going to evaluate you once the new management team's in place
and this is shannon sheldon keith's like first time missing the playoffs anywhere he's coached
which is crazy.
Oh, wow.
And what's cool about it
is that Sheldon Keefe
could be a candidate
to be the Toronto Maple Leafs
head coach this summer.
Hell yeah!
And I think a lot of people
would be like,
you know what, I'll take it.
No way.
No, I don't reckon they would.
Now, I do.
I mean, I don't know.
I don't think the Devils
are missing the playoffs
because of Sheldon Keefe,
but certainly not.
But there is a clear thing here,
a clear comparable,
and I want Devils fans
to really hear us out
because you don't want
to end up like us.
No.
The Devils right now, whoever they hire, I believe they need to be bold.
They got to be willing to trade from that young core in order to address some of the
other needs that they have.
They have to.
They got to move somebody.
They got to unscrew the cap.
They do.
The cap's a mess.
And yes, you can always bet on talent and young talent.
That's great.
But sometimes the young talent just doesn't work perfectly together.
And you should always try to get better, not be afraid to get worse.
That's what the Leafs problem was.
they never tried to get better they were afraid to get worse to get better yeah and now they're
just worse and there's nothing they can do about it let's just mortgage the future until the future
shows up and rents do jesse there is a clip about nico he sure and this is a guy who is not um i
don't believe he's a free agent this year i believe it's summer 2027 that he's a free agent but they
asked him about it because obviously it's a topic of conversation and i think his answer if you go
to 244 of the clip it's a three minute clip so it's a very short clip uh i think his answer is
very interesting again this is the captain of the devils if your captain answered this way
i think you would definitely have some some a little bit of concern okay
just wait for it okay all right here we go you just keep talking all right keep going
and the Clips not playing.
Here he is.
Nico, your big house building
will decide your extension on July 1st.
Does yesterday's lose change
or your mindset on what you want to call it out?
I'm focusing on playing hockey here
and I still have one more year,
so I'm with the Devils right now
and then we'll see what happens.
Another Canadian captain abandoning his...
I fucked it up.
I was going to say another American captain
abandoning their Canadian team.
Yes, but he's not American.
No, I know.
oh okay it's horrible he makes horrible you're you're aiming for something that was gonna be
funny and yeah and i the dart flew over the board yeah just gone to quote pitbull yeah shoot for the
stars and if you don't grab them at least you'll land on top of the world right dally um uh 7.25
million dollars is what he makes next year i kind of wonder if he might be the guy they try to move
because that's an extremely valuable piece i don't think so no i would not i wouldn't either
but you got to find out if he wants to be there you do but no i i think that's uh
listen it's got to be discouraging for a devil's fan but why on earth would he commit right now
you got to know what direction you're going in and you don't even know who your boss is
right um they have to unscrew the cap situation and to alleviate that you don't trade a guy who's
on a complete sweetheart deal like that guy makes less than nice but that is that not what makes him
valuable it is depending upon the direction you want to go yeah well this is where the conversation
always goes you're gonna get a legitimate center prospect back with him plus plus yeah but to me
he's part of the solution i agree but he just seems like the most valuable piece i think matthew
nise is part of the solution toronto he's also the most valuable trade ship i'd sooner bet on
the talent that they already have and like get rid of dougie hamilton's nine million bucks figure
that out for the love of god um then trade nico he's here okay no way there's a lot of money just
locked up let me run through the defense dougie hamilton's got two more years with a no move and
partial no trade yeah nine million you gotta you gotta luke hughes has a nine million dollar
contract until 2032 but you're not trading him because jack is still there and that would
basically guarantee that jack goes to minnesota boy boy boy uh brett pesci 5.5 million dollars
he's got a full no trade for the next well for next year and then partial after that he's he
signed at 5.5 until 2030 brendan dylan's got another year at 4 million jonathan kovacevich
uh is got four more years at 4 million dollars yonas siegenthaler two more years at 3.4 million
you have to re-sign simon nemich which is going to be expensive well like you can't have three
nine million dollar defensemen you know what i mean i do know what you mean oh leave yeah who
would know better than me stop uh oh boy yeah no to me you gotta you're not gonna be able to trade
luke you shouldn't trade simon which means you gotta trade doug myers hughes brought and he sure
and mercer to a lesser extent i think are obviously they're all in that same great age
bracket is this a case guys of figuring out how to move some money off the defense right and then
just just finding guys finding a general manager that can win some more trades a la
what the florida panthers have done with people like reinhardt with people like um uh i think
kulikov was a win for them forsling was a huge win like you need to find those types of wins
i think this is a really coveted job you should want this gig um i don't think the devils as an
organization are in a bad spot i kind of look at the leafs and i go jeez i wish we had talent like
that well i just go i don't know what the future holds like they could still go in so many other
directions like what are the devils going to do rebuild no no no no no this is a i wouldn't call
it a retool i would just call it a tool like so many of their best players are still going to get
better i think or the way to do it is via trade because i don't know that there's a lot of free
agents out there this off season that are going to be able to um change this that much right
well get cracking actually do don't actually get someone from the crack about bobby mcmahon you
could you hey with sheldon keith bobby and sheldon reunited reunited sheldon's like all right it's
just like old times you're a healthy scratch that's right um no i i think that's a really
enviable job they're super young um i don't think they're far away from
being the team that they want to be jesse what would you do with the devils
what would be the first move there's a lot of good pieces there i don't disagree in that you
can shake things up a little i look at a player like dawson mercer who's not really growing into
what they thought he could be and there's a potential young player shake up where it's like
they just need lateral moves to swap players in and out yeah we don't need to sell the farm here
and rebuild there's a good core like it's meyer hughes brat he sure like that's a good little
group you can build around i still look at their decor and that should be better than it is totally
yeah yeah and they like there's if you look at some of the the stats with their shooting
percentage like they've been a little unlucky you can maybe chalk it up to coaching where they are
getting a lot of shots in goal and things aren't going in for them and maybe that's on shelving
keith to create better shots and teachers team to play that way but they are getting opportunities
it just seems like things aren't going into the back of the net and they have been okay on defense
and stopping the other team from scoring it's just a bit about not uh outscoring uh the other team
which is the point of the game and i'm and i mean like this isn't the first time the devils have
been fine and then jack hughes gets injured and the team dies a miserable death totally like that's
such an important piece of their team and it it can't be like that every season no because maybe
now you need to chalk in he's going to miss some time because he's gonna take a knife in a steakhouse
and stab himself so like maybe you just allegedly that in allegedly and you get some depth maybe you
build your team a little better so that when jack hughes misses some time you don't completely go
into a tailspin yeah maybe stop being an asshole and asking him what happened damn you know maybe
maybe just don't ask him tomfist gerald now that he's done the reason that he deserved to be fired
most was on october 31st 2025 when he extended jake markstrom for two years at six million dollars
per season for absolutely no reason did markstrom even start well i don't i don't know what his
record was to start what start the season but there's no reason that markstrom before the year
starts is the guy on your roster you look at we need to get him locked up yeah just in case jake
marstrom leads we need something six years we need him like that's not nobody thought that i
don't know what he was thinking he's gonna be one of those goalies where like i'm gonna be older
and people are gonna be like oh look at his numbers they were fine and i'm gonna be like
you don't understand i was there you had to be there you had to watch those games like
yeah okay sure it came out to a 906 save percentage but it's it was the reason we won
and the reason we lost.
Night in and night out.
Like just one of the most volatile goalies
in the league for basically his whole career.
And Jake Allen signed until like 2030 or something.
Yeah, they're two tandem.
Their two goalies are 36 and 35 years old today.
And they're both signed long term.
What kind of situation is that?
Like Jake, what are your interests?
Not making a ton of money and wearing baseball caps.
i'm really i'm super into both those things can i have a five-year nothing million dollar
contract can i say can i say that uh first off good for jake allen second sure he's good how
do you fleece the oilers into taking jake markstrom off your hands next october or november
by taking tristan jarry back no you're not doing that you can't do that no can't do that that trade
sucks oh that trade sucks oh my god yeah i uh anyway it's it's the devil's thing is really
interesting but like sheldon keith being available potentially is going to be attractive to a lot of
teams there's not a lot of guys that have a winning percentage like he does at least in the
regular season um over the last i don't know decade decade and a half i think he's probably
top five top seven so this is a very successful coach it seemed like when he took over there like
he would be the perfect fit i thought so i really did i don't think i don't again i'll let i don't
think a lot of people think it's his fault necessarily but i just haven't really heard
that kind of buzz right like all the devil's complaints that i've heard are very justifiably
tom fitzgerald who like you mentioned the markstrom extension to me the most naked thing
and i was like you could fire him today is when minnesota got quinn hughes and then you look at
the devil's situation and you're like it's very obvious that's what they were trying to do it's
very obvious why they weren't able to do it yeah it was their own cap troubles that they put
themselves yep and they couldn't move off of it and like they then they send out andre palat
because they just need to get some cap space paid to do it and paid to do it in division yeah
it's what a catastrophe it was their it was their own unforced errors you know hamilton is still
there right it's it's he had a bad tenure as gm yeah man yeah uh i also want to mention that uh
suspiciously little from the rangers the new york post reported yesterday that
Drury's job is safe for now but I if the devils are going to fire Fitzgerald after this
at what point are we honestly having the discussion about Drury because I and I don't
know I don't know how much of again it's like Bradshaw living in Calgary uh sometimes it's
like Kyle Dubas in Toronto you don't know how much the general manager really has in terms of
support or how much meddling from ownership there may or may not be but Chris Drury is hired to be
the guy that people throw tomatoes at and if he's going to be the guy that people throw tomatoes at
when the rangers perform like they did this year i am really surprised we've not heard a single
whisper about him potentially being moved on not a thing not a single thing i almost wonder like
there's going to be a bunch of end of season activity obviously like in terms of coaches and
gm's getting fired and stuff but i wonder about teams waiting to make a decision until they see
where they're at in the draft lottery right oh yeah canucks rangers in particular but i really
don't think he's done a good job at all like they had a talented team and like heading into last
season and they made a bunch of off-season moves or like they they started the the wheels rolling
they've lost nearly every trade yeah they've gotten killed and then there's the JT Miller
trade where it's like oh both of you lost like Chris Drury has not done a good job with the
Rangers you can't trust him to get maximum and just giving up on Keandre Miller I would just
I just never understood that I didn't get it didn't get that at all and like it sounds like
he's gonna like is this guy you you want to trust to trade Adam Fox as someone who cheers for a team
in the rangers conference please keep him a jury yeah yeah absolutely do not keep fox give him the
beliefs no no no don't keep fox don't keep fox no people are saying that fox is not the same after
the injuries though i have a feeling that part of he's like a point of game in his last 50 games
part of that part of that is i think the new york thing i just don't think they're playing all that
well i do have questions about mike sullivan too as a coach like he has not had a good last half
decade um shisterkin is still one of the best goalies in the world and you're this bad yeah man
uh i don't i think i'm not i'm not into this jury thing feels to me like an early season firing
next year that's what i feel i think why because they're just i think there's been no discussion
because chris jury believes in james james dolan believes in chris jury he spoke in january for the
first time james dolan did since 2023 he hadn't done an interview and then in in january of this
year he hopped on wfan in new york and he told the radio station that he believes in chris jury
i pulled up the quotes from back then he said chris jury is a winner and a competitor he can't
stand to lose the culture doesn't turn around overnight i think the team from last year didn't
really believe in themselves and that made it hard you have to be patient uh they played pretty well
and then they have these moments where things go
bad, Dolan said. They find it hard to
pull themselves up. Sometimes they do.
Sometimes they don't. They just have to learn to do
it. They have to believe in themselves.
James Dolan believes in Chris Jury
and I think that is the beginning
of end of will Chris Jury
have a job? That's why
there's no conversation around it. Hey,
I think I speak on behalf of
all the other Eastern Conference
teams. Good.
good i agree i don't good man i don't like what chris jury has done to the rangers
and that's his position isn't going to change if his boss likes him call him call him every day
spell his name a chris so he's at the top of the list alphabetically like call him every
single day because what trades has he won in new york it's a short list

Jesse, are you ready to pander?
To the Montreal Canadiens.
That's right, because they had a big comeback last night, Jesse Blake.
Yes, great win last night.
We talked about...
Yeah, thanks for nothing.
We got the opportunity to watch the overtime period live on the stream
because we were streaming the Jays game,
and the OT happened at the half part of the ninth inning.
So we got to watch that and then we missed the shootout live.
But great win for them.
They are the comeback kids in every sense of the word
where it's no other team you should have as much confidence in them.
And when they are down, they will get back in it.
And it is the lowly Florida Panthers who slowly, day by day,
keep taking guys out of the lineup and soon they will just be an AHL team.
A lot of broken fingers.
but you got to win the games that are in front of you and Montreal does that even through this tough
tough stretch of hockey where they are playing a lot of games and that's why I kind of excused
their loss on Sunday they get right back at it yesterday and they come back a couple times in
that game down I think 1-0 2-1 and 3-2 if I remember correctly so they come back in each
instance and they win and huge saves once again by Dobish in that OT period and throughout that
game to keep them in it i think they have something there in net and uh caulfield and suzuki how can
you not love those two players steve dangle uh with with an astonishingly little amount of effort
adam people love the term that you've uh stumbled upon in habs pander fest pander fest is what we
is what we are calling it yes uh jesse pander corner i i do no you had it and why are you
trying to change it. Stop it! What are you doing?
It's called the salmon. You always have to try to improve.
Jesse, I want
to send you
the Florida Panthers
lineup.
From last night?
It's just on DailyFace. Here, I'll just pull those up
right now.
Crazy. Man, they just keep breaking
fingers.
Well, they're all injured. I'm surprised
they didn't shut them down earlier. They should have.
Oh, no, listen. They're doing this right.
we're not you can't get mad at them for doing it right and us not doing it right although they did
get a point last night steve they did like yeah look at that there you go this is shocking so if
you want to read it out for the people listening for hagi bennett sam iskevich boquist lusterinen
at center greer schwint nosik gregor reinhardt but not sam conan henestrosa yes that's not
not sam defense cole reinhardt i think oh yeah cole right on d forzling kulikov all right sort of
bjorn foot tobias right tobias bjorn foot who the was drafted because the leafs gave the kings their
first round pick for jake muzzin yes well done dominic sabrango and is it michael benning
who the hell is that click on that benning is it michael benning it's not matt we know that it's
not matt it's michael benning michael benning he's five foot nine that is not a florida panthers
shoots right though oh let's give him five mil right now that's right true good point
what he's almost like Vinnie Borghini you know in terms of height oh hey hey yeah but I bet they
know his name now Jesse I am shocked that you did not bring up the one thing and the one thing
is that currently your Montreal Canadiens are tied and are poised to take over the Atlantic
division lead the lightning 78 games played 102 points the sabers 78 games played 102 points
the montreal canadians 78 games played 102 points but the differentiator is the last 10 records
lightning or five three and two that's respectable that's fine the buffalo sabers five three and two
that's respect that's fine the montreal canadians are nine one and oh adam do you believe in
manifestation i do actually i do i do believe in that first round habs sends no man it'd be crazy
manifest all the habs have to do is win the division which means get one more point than
those other two teams jesse the montreal canadians win the division this year i'm waiting for it i
know that do you predict it do i predict are you bet would you put money on it would you put some
of that jesse blake hard-earned cash yeah on it yes because i believe in the habitat i just realized
that the hurricanes are screwing up this fantasy because hurricanes would get first dibs oh yeah
yeah they'd play boston though montreal oh shit what am i doing what a waste of time
habs bruins let's go what what am i doing steve what am i doing again what you playing the bruins
in the playoffs it's like it's it's locked it has to be streaming the bruins would be so funny and
just know you're losing but but you're gonna come back from three one down yes which is gonna be
fun yeah again here we are again it was three one we'll see how it works with these guys though
now at the bottom of the division because as you mentioned there was the couple things there
the the bruins uh montreal series that's the heated rivalry series if that happens yes it is
That would be a little bit of serendipity
with that series coming out and then
the first opportunity we get, we get that
series. That'd be fun.
So what are you going to do to celebrate that?
No.
Watch it.
Watch it live
on stream with the sound cranked.
Cranked.
Before we
move too far from the game, I think
Eat Tuna Melts on live.
A couple people deserve shout outs.
One, Phil Deneau, who is very close to Adam Wilde because of Adam's relationship with Alan Walsh.
And Phil is going to be recording an episode with us today.
So we'll have Phil Deneau on the show.
He scored a big goal yesterday.
Demidov also got a huge goal, adding to his Calder candidacy.
And Lane Hudson and Nick Suzuki, who's secondary in this moment because it's about Lane Hudson,
uh deserve a shout out because of the game tying goal at the end of regulation adam and steve oh
watching this play by lane hudson less than 30 seconds ago thanks for freaking nothing this puck
and creates the entire opportunity so you're gonna watch him get the puck right in the middle
of the ice here at center ice lane hudson net is empty lane hudson's not playing defensive look
no those who needs him to play defense no those tippy toe crossovers he's at all the elite young
players do every every this is hockey such a young player game these days like all the young
kids are dominating with speed uh in this league right now center ice lane hudson gets the puck
with speed 25.8 seconds left on the scoreboard 3-2 the canadians trail with a chance to hop
into a tie for the division lead lane hudson gets the puck enters the zone takes the panthers on
one on three oh wait there's one more it is one on four because you see there's a player there
yeah that's the first one back and then he's he's going he enters the zone skates right up to the
net side of the net goes right around it fools the goalie so much that he's able to get this pass
right out in front that leads to the game tying goal with 20.1 seconds left lane hudson now to
be fair 63rd assist on the season what the fuck is teresov doing now like like he's got the other
by the most elite speed from the back end in the league is what he's doing but yeah the net doesn't
go that far to know look at look at what are you doing just leave him embarrassing let him go
around let him go around and adam it's not on the goaltender if you got that animation
if you got that animation in a video game you'd throw your control absolutely what the fuck is
that it's not bad goaltending it is elite offense if you're a goaltender
look at that look at look how much speed he carries he blows by all of the panthers that
is the most peter morazza goalie goaltending i've seen lately this is that seth jones yeah
No, he's just completely blowing around.
By the way.
So if you look at 42 Forsling, he's got the other post covered.
He's exactly where he should be.
If if Tarasov just stays on his post, literally nothing play.
The game is over.
It's not true.
It is true.
No, because he's got a circle out.
Maybe they get another goal, but it does not happen on this play.
And the fact that Lane Hudson is able to make this pass to center
through the back of the
goaltender is incredible. Is that
because the goaltender is out of position and should
not be there? Yes, because Lane fooled him
with his speed. Well,
I hope Bill Guaven's watching.
Yeah, no, it should have been on the team. Mr.
Guaven. Buffalo, by
the way, plays the Rangers today. I would
expect them to take care of some business. Jesse, I'm surprised
you didn't bring up Alexandre Texier,
shootout god, who had a goal
in the shootout.
Did he do the same friggin' thing he always does?
And no one picked up on it?
because Tarasov had a bad game.
Hear that?

You're richer than you think.
uh lightning lost a big one against ottawa last night and kind of got embarrassed six two which
is crazy so you've got the three teams racing for the top and i want to say this about the
top of the atlantic on january 25th what team led the atlantic the red wings
i'm gonna the red wings question mark the red wing what's the i never like in contention for
wasn't it just the top of the east too yeah like not just the atlanta they're right up there with
the carolina hurricanes yeah now let me ask you this i mean we can check the dates on the thing
but if you're at the top of your division yeah you were close to the hurricanes now
what's been the record since then bad what is it though how many games uh that is bad math here we
don't know okay so i'm gonna go 8 25 19 and how what does that add up to 8 and 17 8 and 17 you
are correct holy shit 13 and 4 that's unbelievable Steve Dangle everybody let's go Steve Dangle wow
8 and 17 wow yep and that's and isn't that nuts yes that's I was like wait a second no he got it
8 13 and 4 is 8 and 17 there you go now Columbus came up big in that game against the Red Wings
and Zach Rowenski won it on the shootout and Rick Bonas I don't know if you guys saw it when
Rowenski won it they had a camera on Rick Bonas and Rick Bonas did not look he looked down at the
bench and when the guys cheered then he turned around and cheered did you see the other thing
Zach Rowenski didn't want to go because in overtime the laces on his skate got sliced
oh he's like guys I'm on one foot he still did it oh he did it uh standings as of January 25th
i pulled them up so we have the exact stats the red wings did lead the east in a tie so they
technically they didn't lose it they lose it on points percentage but they had the same amount
of points as the carolina hurricanes on january 25th for first place in the eastern conference
unbelievable like look at that unbelievable oh my god and they they're gonna miss the playoffs
they were they were one of seven teams to have 60 or more points they had 69
and they're not but it's not over in league not over in league standings they were third overall
they were ahead of the wild the lightning the stars the sabers uh everybody right it was
carolina colorado like you're ahead of the wild and stars what wow they're gonna miss
ottawa's too good so now the the dreadwings currently are in if you look at the wild card
It's the Bruins with 96 points in 79 games.
Ottawa, 78 points, sorry, 78 games played, 92 points.
Blue Jackets, 78 games played, 90 points.
So they're two points behind the Sens.
And the Detroit Red Wings, because of last night's loss,
89 points in 78 games.
And I want to bring this up because this is quite the tweet.
Jim Costa, who is a morning show host at 91-7,
or 97 won the ticket in Detroit.
He said, I realize the Wings can't be eliminated
in their next game on Thursday.
The earliest they would be eliminated is on Saturday,
which is their final home game on fan appreciation night
on the 100th year celebration season.
That could be boo territory.
That's potential.
That's like Leafs level of catastrophe.
That's not something I'm used to from the record.
It could also be heroic.
They could.
And that's the thing.
They're not out.
They're not out, but the vibes are catastrophic.
They're really bad.
I think the Larkin injury hurt them so much.
Well, obviously.
Yeah, but it can't just be that.
I was going to bring them up when we were talking about Jack Hughes.
Yeah.
Like, man, the wings falter when he's out.
Like, that's a good excuse if you want to not make wholesale changes,
but they need wholesale changes.
It's the competitiveness.
And you said it in the last show with the Tom McClellan's clip, right?
Yes, yes.
It's in these moments they wilt.
When they need these victories, they never pull out these games.
And that is a roster problem.
that's a player issue uh as a moritz cider fantasy holder jesus the guy had i think it was an assist
it was either three shots or three hits he had eight blocks that's a lot of block in that
friggin game like he's an animal he's been incredible all season they win they did not
win glad your fantasy team got a good player but i'm looking for w's for the destroy red wings
i had i had cider and wierenski it was sick it was that was a great game for me and me alone
uh but unfortunately not the red wings i think they are missing a lot of pieces there in detroit
and it's on steve eiserman if he's gonna still be around past this season to build a new core
that oh that decor is still a just a world of hurt i think that's not good and they
what did they pay for falk you mean in the trade yeah they did that at the day an unprotected
first round pick this season yep oh no stop it right no they didn't no they didn't no click on
his name prove it to me i don't why aren't we why isn't everyone talking they are because it's not
are they are in detroit but they're not toronto and it's not as funny toronto's which is funnier
you know that well i do know that but holy santa claus ball and and and listen to st louis's pick
would be in the mid-teens it's not going to be sixth overall like the leafs will be clearly
so it's not that funny it's a little funny you never know man oh detroit's not going to fall
that far i guess they could win move up a little bit yes but you you have to be don't you have to
be top or bottom 10 to to have a shot at the first overall so you could still fall oh i don't think
they're gonna give away mckenna or anything but in the justin falk trade the detroit red wings
acquired justin falk and they moved away moved off of justin hall good uh steve give me this
last name uh damn yeah i'm going with that and a no you're so wrong it's put you on the cuff
oh there you go thank you steve a 2026 first round pick unprotected and a 2026 third round
pick that the detroit red wings had from the sharks oh boy they have an unprotected first
round pick going to the blues this season and they're going to miss the playoffs
that's crazy oh and they're gonna get the shark and the st louis blues get the sharks third too
that's pretty solid for them hey doug arp show not looking so bad huh not that he's coming how
is this that's over and you know why this was overlooked is the red wings make that deal we
don't even like what okay here's what i would like to know what were the standings on the day
of the trade deadline i will have because they gave up a first and we're all like yeah all right
well they should have bought me perhaps not for falk but we didn't expect at the beginning of
march that they would be playing the way that they are i mean i don't know what they were on
can we look were the red wings were third in the atlantic 35 21 and 7 they had 77 points
the columbus blue jackets were the first team out of the playoffs was 72 points so yeah of course
you they're five oh no they're of a playoff spot let's look at the warning signs three five and
two in their last 10 they've played 63 games go look at the two wild and the gold if gold if gold
if but look at the oh my god the habs were in the wild card they had played two fewer games and the
bruins had played two fewer games so with the blue jackets so with the sins and you're you're
steve eiserman and you say we were in first place late january i gotta do something to bolster my
team i'm gonna go out and get justin fall for an unprotected first and it's a minus their goal
differential by the way was a minus four that's a bad move a first round pick is something you give
up when you think you're a contender when you're the avalanche you're the stars you're the wild
lightning you're the 2025 maple leaves it's not right well it's or well it's a last ditch effort
right at a at a dying era but um oh boy this like this move was to stop the bleeding yeah it's not
to bolster a contender totally sheesh kabibbles that's a bad one wow look at the regulation wins
too 29 for the lightning 31 for the sabers 24 for the red the warning signs i didn't pick up on them
but they were there oof oh boy that's bad could still make it they're not gonna make it and then
no one cares they're not going to i don't think they're going to but oh boy oh the sens just need
to win a couple games and i think they will they really did blow it oh my god man i i uh i i want
to say this too um columbus is up on them which is kind of crazy um and the atlantic is pretty
disinteresting after that but i will say this about tonight leafs are playing capitals capitals
are in town this could be alexandro ovechkin's last game in toronto could be in 30 career games
against the maple leafs how many goals jesse and steve does alexandro ovechkin have 83
give me a real number uh you said 30 30 games yeah i'm gonna say 30 okay that's a good guess
i'll say 27 25 damn i don't blame you for thinking it was every game because remember a lot of those
games were when the Leafs were absolute dog shit and he ate them alive I can think of at least
several multi-goal games he was asked this morning about the retirement because of course you come to
Toronto everybody's just gonna ask you the question he says he's going to decide this
summer do you think he sticks around one more year because today Ilya Protis brother of Alexi
is going to be playing the pro and it could be Protis Protis Wilson on a line that's one of the
biggest lines in the league if if people don't know ilia protis in terms of his size and that
sort of thing uh he is six foot six and 225 pounds and he's little pro yeah and a lot of big pro is
six foot six and 250 pounds 250 effing pounds ilia played junior hockey last season tom wilson
six, four, two 25. Yeah. So Ilya is going to get bigger. Yeah. That's insane. I've one of the
things I I've been curious about with the capitals all year is why hasn't Ilya been up? Um, I guess
they thought he needed a little more seasoning. I'm excited to see him. I'm excited about, uh,
his future with his brother in the NHL. Um, and I think it would be a shame if, you know,
the greatest goal scorer of all time went out with so little fanfare it would yeah you know by
the way he's retired uh ilias protis uh is the leader in ahl rookies and sixth among all skaters
and points this season so i think they were just trying to season him hard to be a point of game
player in the ahl he's got 62 points in 66 games gretzky did it right gretzky announced his
retirement like three games before the end of the season yeah going into that last week he's just
like okay i'm gonna really remember i'm gonna be done and then they had to kind of scramble and do
all the celebrations for him so i could see ovi going out the same way where it's maybe we only
know second last game or last game in the next couple days and he's like i'm done or just maybe
at the end uh during the summer you know he's just like i'm done and you don't want to be a
distraction which the goal chase last year was oh yeah you can't it was great it was fun but like
you can't tell me it wasn't weighing on the team and Ovi is going to be a little different in post
retirement I'm just guessing but I assume we don't see a lot of him in North America after
his run with the Caps I think it'll be he's going to go home and do stuff there he may play well
he's going to play there that's the rumor he's got to go uh he's got to go revitalize the Dynamo
Moscow locker room yeah that there was a viral clip that went around from the playoffs uh Maxim
comtois who you might remember as guy who led the ducks in scoring one year um he was giving it to
the refs the refs were giving it back the refs were giving it to his bench the bench was like
yeah we'll tell him to shut up the other team was like look at this guy and then jordan wheel who
played for dynamo moscow skates over to the ref and goes listen call the rest of us fair we don't
like him either wow it's a crazy clip crazy clip so ovi's got to go over there and fix that that
will be the greatest accomplishment in his career it would be unbelievable fixing dynamo uh let's
talk about um let's talk about this uh uh the leafs have hired neil glasberg to assist in their
executive search and he just happens to be a representative of certain executives one of them
being panthers assistant general manager sunny meta can you explain to me the controversy that
happened on socials around this the only thing that i can deduce from it is people are going
how is this different from what what nashville tried to do with caa so nashville tried to hire
caa uh to help them with their executive search because you know caa represents a lot of everybody
But they called it a conflict of interest because CAA represents players and Neil Glassberg also represents people and but not players, but not players. And that that is the that's a little bit of it. You know, there are I think in any industry, I think there are people that like you and people that don't. So there was a little bit of that out there. I think there's some people that really like and some people that really don't. That is as far as I got with the controversy.
are you meaning something else jess or no i was asking that was that yeah that's that's the and
i asked around and and not a lot of people know a whole lot uh there are strong opinions some
sometimes one way like i said and sometimes the other um but it it if you're looking to hire
somebody who already represents the person that you're probably after it's not the worst idea
so this is the thing the leafs might like accidentally get the right guy like i would
like sunny meta to join the leaf staff um they might get the guy they might make the right
decisions for the wrong reasons yeah yeah or or they're those are the right decisions and that
was their intention the whole time yeah maybe this is what you had to do in order to get sunny meta
counterpoint that's weird why do you need to do that to get this person you'd be paying
neil glasberg twice okay yeah that's hog shit you'd be paying him as a consultant and as an
agent and i think there's some people that are like okay that's a little greasy but it happens
in business all the time it does it but it is there's nothing illegal about it is my point
yeah no there's you you can do legal things that are greasy sure legal things that make people
look that's what they're doing here yeah 100 like what i would hate is is like okay first of all
who else does this guy represent i would love to know that a bunch of different executives from
what i understand um i think there was an association with patrick law at one point
not anymore kevin adams maybe maybe yeah um like what i want to know is are the leafs gonna now
miss out on guys because they hired essentially an agent yeah i mean i i i think that this is
suggest that they're actually hiring an outside service that is going to give them a completely
objective view hiring neil glasberg would suggest that they already have a view on what they want
to do and and and that this is that this is where you can probably take umbrage with it especially
if it doesn't work if it works then no one gives a shit but if it doesn't work and in three years
we're sitting here going wow they fired another one um you could say well they didn't actually
cast the widest net possible because they hired someone who, yes, fiduciary responsibility is to
the team to bring for a whole bunch of people. But if you're representing somebody, you probably
go a little bit like, ah, but this guy's pretty great. And it's his job, just so you guys are
aware of the role, his job is to say, here are the pros, here are the cons. I can't help you
make a decision. But then his job as an agent is to hire my client. So it becomes...
if you're sunny meta and i and sunny meta doesn't get the job doesn't he have the right to be like
what the hell man yeah you do put yourself in a weird spot i get where there people think there's
a conflict of interest but yeah it's i don't know how like maybe they're after sunny meta and this
is the best way to do it and i think that's awesome yeah i think that's what it is and
doug armstrong that ship has pretty much sailed uh st louis is not letting him out
leafs have no elevated position oh weird a long rumored transaction with the st louis blues isn't
happening isn't that so odd yes get out of here uh but off with him james myrtle had a really
interesting point on the leafs report yesterday he knows sunny and they've they've at least
professionally and he said he's a very smart guy interesting personality uh in his mid-50s
and obviously very successful he wrote books on like playing poker and like this guy's a numbers
guy i think the market would probably embrace that based on what james was saying i'm and i
trust james completely uh i would uh i would say that this guy seems like a perfect fit i don't
this actually makes me think less of him no that he knows james myrtle ah that's true uh now i think
i think this would be a really cool hire and if yeah this is the best way to go about it then
go get your guy it's kind of awesome my question for you guys is mid-may seems to be the benchmark
deadline you have to hire a gm you don't have to hire a president but i do think you need to
higher president and i think that's pretty clear and i think that they are is may too late yes
we've seen pete deborah come off the board right uh sheldon keith might come on the board we know
uh cassidy is going to wait uh pierre lebrun said in insider training he's going to wait for the
coaching carousel he's not going to sign anything early coaches and gms retire and whatever like
professional wrestlers i don't i don't give any validation to his words do you that is mid-may is
five weeks from today is that and as i asked you is that too late or jesse are you okay with them
taking five weeks because they should because they need to be smart about this taking five
weeks for the gm position that's what they said mid-may is their is their deadline that's fine
you're okay with it yeah i would like the end of april but it's wish that's like two weeks from
now i yeah this is why we've been hammering these friggin guys for months yeah and uh here they are
late as always well what would be what would be your concern with waiting that long
the draft is too soon but drafts uh draft is five weeks after that draft is late june yeah
yeah it's like we're 10 weeks away from the draft can you believe that it can't put it this way i
would like it to be sooner because sooner is better it gives you more time to prepare you
can't be later than that yes cannot be later than that okay first or second week of may they tell me
there's a new gm i'm fine with that okay yeah as long as they're doing their due diligence if you
already have your guy just go hire him like if they're actually trying to cast a giant net and
see who they want to hire then yes take your time and find the right person because you can't mess
this up again but if they know their guy then just then hire yeah like listen i don't think
keith pelly's done a good job but like if he doesn't get this right it's his ass totally
right so he's got to get it right might might be his ass anyway okay so that that's all we know
right now we'll leave it at that uh the leafs uh brought up uh luke hames uh and will villeneuve
was already up but then they sent them down so they could play with the marlies today at 10 45
i don't know how that game's going but it's going on as we're recording and the leafs are playing
the capitals tonight hames and villeneuve will not be in the lineup but everybody's like well
i expect hames to be back up i'm like well he's not playing two games in one day so no that i
I think the Marlies game does matter because, as Jesse pointed out,
haven't clinched a playoff spot.
Right, and there's value in that.
Like, oh, I want them to go down there and get playoff experience.
Well, you can't do that without making it, right?
Totally.
So, I guess I understand.
But, you know, yesterday we're like, oh, you know, we'll see if they get in.
Then they get sent down.
I'm like, yep, perfect.
Well, Hames and Villeneuve.
Hames for sure is going to get a look, they say, on Thursday night.
That'll be the Leafs' second half.
They should both.
Yeah, and I do have to ask the question again.
And I don't, no disrespect to Cali Yarncroke,
but he's had rumored a Swedish deal
since the beginning of this season.
Like, why do we continue to play this player?
Play him in the final game as like a farewell.
But like, I don't care who you take out of the,
okay, Yarncroke, Stetcher.
There you go.
Easy.
Play the young guys.
What are we doing?
Yep.
What are you going to learn about Cali Yarncroke
and Troy Stetcher?
Yeah.
Or Simone Benoit.
Or take someone out.
Oliver Ekman-Larsen.
like you talked about the florida panthers doing it the right way oel does not need to play another
game this season no he doesn't oh yeah you know we'll see how we get why neither does neilander
or nize or any of those guys holy cow guys what are we doing what are we doing for the love of
god i've been on that train since mid-march but what but now it's unjustifiable yep i agree holy
cow guys enough now i want to talk about the toronto mirelies by the way need to finish top
five in the north division to make the playoffs they're currently fourth okay in the division
they have 74 points the two teams behind them are the rochester americans who have 69 points and
then the utica comments who have 62 so they they're going to make the playoffs but i think
it'll take a just one or two more points is it is it a 70 game season there like what is the what
is the ahl season i never know what it is i don't know okay um i don't know off the top of my head
uh i want to go to this article josh cloak did a great article on a twitter account if you're on
twitter that you've probably seen and it is basically a twitter account that tracks what
every nhl player is doing on instagram in terms of who they follow and who they don't and who they
unfollow and it starts with olin zellweger of the uh of the um anaheim ducks i was about to say how
How dare you?
And he, after the gold medal game,
unfollowed Matthews, Hughes, Eichel, Keller,
and a few others.
And Cloak asked him about it.
And he said, well, it was a little housekeeping.
It's not like I don't like those guys.
I started following them when I was like 12.
But he was pissed off about Canada losing.
So he unfollowed all of them.
That's hilarious.
And it went viral.
and so uh yeah so you could see that and and there was also um there's a there's a few things
in here about this and it's a very very long piece but what i found really really interesting
um jeff skinner for instance unfollowing the sharks after they they dissolved his contract
Nazem Khadri following some Megan Fox and things like that.
But I think a lot of players are kind of upset about this.
It's NHL follow tracker, and it opens up a forum for discussion about the players' personal lives and their relationships.
And what Cloak alludes to in this, which is true, is that a lot of guys are using Instagram as a way to make romantic connections.
you can't exactly go and bumble and raya is kind of who knows uh a lot of people don't know what
raya is it's for celebrities basically but what olivia rodrigo the other day said uh it was
she's like everybody on there is a creative director and they're all unemployed
um so it kind of raises a question of is it fair to post that stuff publicly
and the the guy that runs it said listen it's public information if you don't want to be seen
on social media close your account or you can make it private no one will see you he said that's my
answer if someone asked me about privacy he said if someone wants to keep their information private
i accept that um he will if a player's instagram is private he will try not to determine who they
follow and unfollow it's it's a little bit like uh the south park episode with all the drones
like oh man i didn't watch it and you didn't watch it so who's watching it it's because
everyone's watching it like i think there's going to be a lot of people tut tutting this
who absolutely have seen one of their posts and been like
they unfollowed and then they followed now we can talk about whether or not it's a little
weird or invasive um to me like for the nhlers that are upset about it is it a good idea to
slide into dms and stuff you have a finsta and you have a rinsta you need to have your
you got to have your brand page where you do like like the reason we get nhl car watches
because of these guys and their public instagram pages but it can't be the same like do you remember
when adam levine was caught for cheating um and he was he said he never cheated but he was sliding
into people's instagrams whatever what i never understood about that is like what do you mean
you went from the adam levine account dude the game didn't we do that on sdp vip recently yes
the rapper the game got caught basically using the same pickup line on like 40 different people
and he didn't seem embarrassed by it so my question is he was proud of it he was proud of it i mean
was pretty slick f3 f3 if you have people drop that in the streams all the time now yeah yeah
they just write f3 in the streams that's amazing because they're trying to tell you you look like
a snack so jesse if you're an nhl player the easy way around this is have your instagram account
for friends and family only and have your brand account which is the blue check mark one right
does the problem then become a most guys don't want to do two different instagram accounts
and b are your you're probably not going to be as successful in someone's dms if you don't have
that blue check mark next to your name is that also true i think if you're if they know who you
are you'll be fine and you'll be fine with your private account but i think that's what has to
happen for these guys because i don't know if this account's going away anytime soon i think
he's getting a lot of interest from it people love following seeing what the nhl players are
No, they don't. They're above it.
So the NHL players who now have to deal with this,
it's you have to run one account as a professional account where it's a business.
It's just a page where you look at any other brand account.
It just happens to be your name of Connor McDavid.
And then you have your own personal thing that's a private account
where you can't see your follow and unfollows.
And that's where you do all your normal stuff with your family
and whoever your friends and whatever.
You should be more careful with your public verified account.
You should also be more careful with your fake account because you'd be amazed how many accounts there are that only post about a third liner on a Western conference team.
And all the people they follow happen to be from that person's hometown.
You know what I mean?
And it's that person's dad or brother or that person or cousin or that person.
And I'm just like, are you a dumbass?
like like every time i read these things i'm like this it's it's like uh the fat guy like a
hiding behind like just like a telephone oh yeah does that mean like we can see you i do feel bad
for them though like they should be able to in in a perfect world they should be able to just
follow whoever the hell they want and not have that blasted on the internet well adam you let
me know when we find that maybe artemis will find that somewhere out there but it ain't this one
we're not in a perfect world and that's some of the downfall you get for making millions of dollars
and being a professional hockey player sometimes it's not it's not even a privacy concern because
it's public information but people are very invasive about your public actions yeah that's
what comes with the territory there and whether you want those people to do that or not whether
you think it's creepy or not whatever it's gonna be a thing and people are interested in it so
you have to adjust accordingly that's a part of the gig now you do yeah it's yeah unfortunate or
whatever but people are going to do it now we did not get to this last episode but i want to make
sure that we have a small segment to end the show on this uh it's old news but it's still an
incredible news sydney crosby we sort of half mentioned at the end of last show 21 point per
game seasons now man he is the only person in nhl history ever to do it greatness just genuine
greatness what a privilege to watch this guy's entire career what a privilege like i i just i
talk about him like a like a living monument of the sport because he is no one in the league
more greater represents greatness um like he's he's just he's incredible he's incredible
do you want me to keep saying synonyms for incredible yeah it's sort of hard to say
anything that hasn't been said before except for the fact that this is something that he holds
solely on his own gretzky lemieux or anybody nobody's done this sydney crosby is a great
you know uh if you want to talk about radical optimism right in a world that is very pessimistic
right now um sydney crosby is a great reason why uh when a player gets hyped up so much when
they're young and people go nah you're over hyping them it's a you should delete that person as a
because let's say you are over hyping them who gives a shit so what and if they're not over
hyping them you get to watch sydney crosby from the start with an open heart and i think that's
a beautiful thing that was all people said about sydney crosby at the beginning of it all in 2005
that was all can you believe you should go back as as a as a as a as a monument or as a time
capsule of the sport go back to sports net videos on their youtube channel from 2015 when connor
mcdavid made his nhl debut go back and watch videos from like october november 2015 scroll
the comments on all the mcdavid stuff oh enough with mcdavid oh enough of this kit connor mc
frigging david delete all those people from your life all of them all of them they were wrong
they'll never admit they were wrong that's toxic sydney crosby man sydney crosby how cool is it
going to be jesse when unless things go really squirrelly in the last four games sydney crosby's
first playoff game in a few years is going to take place against philadelphia on home ice in
pittsburgh oh well i hope it's against the blue jackets obviously because i despise the flyers
so that's where oh yeah you've got a you've got a thing you and philly or do you do not get no i
was just i was just wrong on the flyers going on this magical run but rick tocket has done a
fantastic job coaching them with great defensive hockey and they've found themselves in this
position i think it's so sick that sydney crosby gets this series like ovechkin would have been
cool too like we get another ov crosby and it's just the old guy series of us just waxing poetic
on he also hates the blue jackets yeah but i think this is even better just the fact that it's been
so long and we get the history of that previous series from the last time um from what is
basically like our childhoods now the last time when philly and pittsburgh went out it having
them do this is the perfect way for crosby to have this moment in his career it's gonna it's gonna be
a lot of fun that's gonna be much must watch hockey yeah to gary betman's credit he has
manufactured these first round series hit the extra to be a really good because he's geographically
placed these teams in these divisions and manufactured them to all play in the first
round we should be getting these in the second round we should be getting these based on merit
of the stand ah fuck me as opposed to just hey we placed you all here and this is the only teams
you can play but it has created this magical moment of philly and the pittsburgh penguins
going at it next season sydney crosby barring an injury is going to crack the top five all time
in nhl scoring he's he's got 1759 he actually very recently just passed steve eisenman
four points ago marcel dion is 1771 he'll pass him like before christmas and ron francis says
1798 wow and after that the next guy he has to catch his how
Gordie Howe
which he maybe won't
well no
how many years is his contract well I think it goes
through next year doesn't it
was signed last year and it started this year was a two
year I mean he could play till he's 42
like I he could if there's if there's
anybody that's going to do it it'd be him
if he if he plays two
years he will undoubtedly
pass how who has 1850
and then Mark Messier has
1887
and then it's just Jager and Gretzky like he's stupid it's also unfair how many penguins are in
the top five six and all-time scoring three of them fuck off and then Connor McDavid's gonna
pass him yeah yeah it's so another boiler it's another yes exactly it's a miracle Eisenman's
even up there yeah one thing that's really cool that's been happening lately is Crosby's name
keeps coming up in conversations about Macklin Celebrini because what Macklin's doing is like
really impressive he has 107 points he's 19 right now he turns 20 in june so you're seeing all of
these charts about the greatest things that teenagers have done in the sport yes and we
forget that sydney crosby is at the top of all of these lists because of his year 18 and year 19
seasons year one he enters the league he has over 100 points year two he wins the heart trophy and
post 120 points that season one of the most impressive seasons all time by a teenager in
the history of the nhl and like we're all really happy about what macklin's doing because he's now
he's in that company but the guy right above him is still in the league still playing now
and he did it better and he won the trophy that season it's 102 120 uh only 72 point in 53 games
that was his third year right alien yes he's complete alien uh penguins won his fourth year
so macklin's got a lot of catching up to do just saying uh also the penguins did make the playoffs
uh crosby second year if macklin can't do it now it's already off to a bad start they only played
five games but they did make it and we forget how quickly to crosby won those cups like the first
one yeah he got out of the gate quick there we didn't have to wait for him to like hit 30 and
be like ah we need crosby to get one no he got one pretty quickly he did if i remember correct
the penguins get in and the sins humbled them and then the next year i want to say there was a
rematch and the penguins tossed them around like hulk tossing around loki like the rise of the
penguins was fast yeah real fast those uh those back-to-back years too in 15 16 then well the
back-to-back years initially where they lose right the first time and then they come back and win
like it's just outstanding from every aspect of the sport like mcdavid's gonna pass him in points
but he doesn't have the winning no he doesn't have the international resume that crosby has
and the golden goal and all of the championships with team canada he doesn't have the stanley cups
you know and there's there's like levels to these things where it's we're talking about the greatest
of greatest ever mcdavid's the greatest hockey player to play right now but when you put him
in the conversation with the greats of the greats crosby's just done everything yeah literally
every consmith to cons a couple of consmiths hang on for that last olympics sid come on come on come
on be the fourth line center at the last olympics there's no chance and yet is there not no there's
a chance there's definitely if he does if he actually plays that long he's passing jogger
you know that right he's gonna be number two yeah i hope he does and there was a moment last year and
for most of the beginning of this season where we're like crosby's never gonna get into a playoff
game ever again and now god they're gonna win the cup this year thank god he just bent us over his
knee like bane yeah what are you guys talking about i'm sydney carosby of course i'm gonna
get back to the playoffs it's gonna be amazing anyway uh that is it for today we will be back
tomorrow again bit of a wonky schedule but there will be a steve dangle podcast tomorrow and
i'm streaming tonight uh doing the 7 30 game washington versus toronto it's gonna be a fun
time i think mad dog is joining me too yeah party time also vip later this week ov hat trip
the steve dangle podcast follow the guys on twitter at steve underscore dangle at adam w y
