Starting point is 00:00:00 Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal. One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows. And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself. And I'm like, well, hang on a second. What if I don't want to? I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
Starting point is 00:00:28 The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals. see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code dangle taskers across canada book up fast especially for same day tasks get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task rabbit app you should
Starting point is 00:01:10 download that taskrabbit.ca code dangle the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake let's go all right let me make you feel better no three on three stupid anyway from fox news oh my god whoa whoa whoa never has a sentence begun in that fashion let me make you feel better only adam from fox news nhl star quinn hughes became an olympic hero for team usa when he hit an overtime goal to lift his country over sweden in the men's qualifying round wow okay he hit an overtime goal he hit it i don't know if that's how goals work it well i mean that's not as bad as skip bayless just not knowing what's going on dip bayless okay let me i gotta pull
Starting point is 00:02:02 that skip bayless never talks about my sport so you live like this like the rest of you that's how you live i'm so sorry my favorite part about skip bayless is he wants everything that's bad about hockey to stay he said we win in overtime usa beats sweden in olympic hockey you know three on three is much more fun to watch oh no more open eyes more one-on-one shots on gold did he write those farts less lucky bounce high traffic goals in front of the net are you listening nhl yeah no nobody likes a lucky bounce goal in front of the net as though we don't like what they don't listen to people who watch the sports skip what makes you think they're gonna listen to you does he know that they have three on three overtime in the nhl i don't know it doesn't sound
Starting point is 00:02:49 like you know i don't think he does no it sounds like he left it deliberately open to interpret i'll offer him a quarter million dollars to shut up yeah hey um i just listen uh i needed to i needed to get that off my chest because america it's so funny with americans they're like uh they're like okay we understand soccer we understand football i don't know how to talk about hockey i'm like it's not that hard but anyway team canada team usa they do know a thing or two about played for the gold medal today and we just finished Jesse Blake stream and now we're here at Jesse
Starting point is 00:03:22 tell us how it ended America won an overtime ah Canada collects the silver medal in women's hockey they do not defend their championship in this game credit to Canada
Starting point is 00:03:40 going into this game nobody had them competing like this no the fact that they had the lead for 58 minutes is astonishing they have been destroyed by the american side for the last seven consecutive games going into this over seven they had not beat america since last february uh 2025 uh when they won a game there in the rivalry series and then since then they're on that losing streak and then in this tournament they lose five nothing the same result that usa beats switzerland by so you're like okay right how good are canada really when they're up against competition that's on their level because let's be honest it's a two-team
Starting point is 00:04:18 tournament so going into this game you're thinking it's not going to be five nothing but it could be might not be five but it could be three right in canada whole game is able to hold off usa where they have a ton of chances they're pressuring thank you for moving my water they're pressuring the entire time but canada makes it tough through the neutral zone they're able to usa is getting their shots but they're not going through to the net and and renee debian canada's goaltender stands on her head she's fantastic and she hadn't played like that i don't think all tournament i wouldn't say so they get this really surprised performance and then kristin o'neill lower stacy pass shorthanded she decides to take it on her own stacy does and o'neill jumps up
Starting point is 00:05:06 in the rush just trailing her she goes forehand backhand shorthanded goal they're up one nothing they hold it till the very end of the game when in her last career game at the olympics captain america hillary knight is able to tip a shot she's in front of the net in her spot she's been home in that spot for decades and leila edwards it's funny it's it's the handing off of the torch right it's the old guard for it's the new guard to the old guard to complete that goal leo elbridge shoots it from the point hillary knight taps at home and then you go to three on three overtime yeah where i gave the opinion beforehand that i gave on this podcast where it's nonsense garbage that we are deciding these games at three on three overtime which is not the same sport as five
Starting point is 00:05:56 on five hockey it's not the same like it's we watch it not different sports but once you have defined that those are the rules and you get to overtime i don't want to hear cope from my fellow canadians in that it's a fake gold medal from the americans and all that i know we're hurt right now we don't want to lose it they earned it in the same rules that canada had to play by those are the rules overtime yep and they score that goal and they win i was very clear with my opinion before the olympics started if canada wins it's great if they lose it's terrible and i'm staying true to that this is terrible it's i hate three on three it's garbage it was a fantastic play by megan keller um she made a fantastic little deke beat debian on a on a backhand shot that was one
Starting point is 00:06:44 she couldn't have it was just fantastic play all credit to her to be to be clear when the men's team won in three on three yesterday it was fine that was good that was allowed and fine three men's teams won an overtime yesterday yeah but i wasn't cheering for two of them i just named one of them who hit an overtime shot they sure did hit an overtime shot and what an overtime shot they hit you said if you hit two more of those i will stop haunting you quinton i i'd like to get your guys's reaction on this because i do believe in being gracious in defeat like i i i am very we can get into the details of the american team and what they have that can relax but just i don't i don't like when people don't want to give credit to the opposition when you get beat no i mean like canada
Starting point is 00:07:34 had the opportunity to go up to nothing too like there was an empty net well there was an empty net but also the um that well an empty net is usually a death sentence and the united states knows that but um the power play yes oh missed opportunity missed opportunity how do you have a breakaway in overtime too where you don't get a shot off. Yeah, there are a few of those. You can't, you simply can't
Starting point is 00:07:57 give those opportunities away. The power play is an interesting thing to bring up for the topic of giving credit where credit is due. America was perfect on the penalty kill for that entire tournament.
Starting point is 00:08:08 That's incredible. They finished the tournament not allowing a single power play goal to the opposition. That's amazing. That's what you're competing with. Yeah, and I think the American men
Starting point is 00:08:19 are at 93 or 94%. their power play allowed more goals than their penalty kill yeah in this game literally yes literally that's how good the penalty kill was i think we all need to you know uh you always want to support your country's team but i think we need to be honest about where ours is and jesse you said it at the end of the stream the last one was what february 7th 2025 against the americans yeah in a rivalry game and i think we i don't know if it's coaching i don't know if it's play style i thought it was all heart and soul out there it really really was but it was pretty clear going into this game that there was a significant favorite and a significant underdog yeah and
Starting point is 00:09:05 i don't think we're used to as a country and i don't think we should stay used to being a significant underdog new right it was uh yeah it was an odd you're right it was a very odd feeling but i will say obviously the result sucks guys like but oh yeah i'm almost encouraged by oh okay the chasm isn't as big as i thought it was that no one's looking at it that way and nor should they i'm sure the players aren't oh good we lost in overtime we made it close yeah all good like i don't expect anyone to look at it that way but that prelim game was looking pretty pretty dire man and then barely beating switzerland you're like all right something's going on here something's rotten objectively that first
Starting point is 00:09:52 period canada switzerland was awful yeah just a bad period right like there's work to be done yeah there's work to be done and like you're not how many consecutive olympic gold medals have they won americans yeah i don't think once it's 2018 canada won 2022 yeah they're they've just they've flip-flopped the last right three olympics right but canada has so it was 2022 states won 2018 canada 2014 yes crazy and 2010 2010 and now we're going two decades i lose it a little bit yeah yeah it's their time you got to figure out how to make it your time next time jesse you watched every single minute of the women's side and you streamed every single minute of the women's side what do you think needs to be the new beginning for this
Starting point is 00:10:46 because this cycle is clearly over um you know and you're you're going to say goodbye to some veterans that have been such a big part of it mpp specifically will probably never play in the olympics again you're looking for the next you might push it she might uh i'm not betting against her okay but likely yeah i'm not gonna max kellerman this and say gun it's likely crosby's over and he goes on to win four super bowls but i i i do you know jesse what did you see as a major systems issue what did you see as a major player issue like what what did you see here a lot of people have rightly pointed out the gap in speed in the american game in the canadian game like you said it's it's um an underdog team when you talked about this would have been the greatest
Starting point is 00:11:32 victory in canadian women's hockey in the olympic history because they've never come into a game as an underdog and that's because the americans when they're out there you see what they're doing with the american development system and it's a game built on speed instead of more of i don't know if you call it a finesse game but the way the older team that canada has is playing right now they don't they don't handle the the rush that that the americans are able to throw at them and i think it starts with the university kids that they have just going through the list it's uh ava mcnaughton goaltender university of wisconsin it's carolyn harvey university of wisconsin who won mvp of the tournament by the way did she they announced that yeah two goals seven assists
Starting point is 00:12:15 unreal kristen sims also from uh wisconsin abby murphy minnesota joy dunn from ohio state and you look at that injection of leila edwards i haven't mentioned as well like the injection of young talent and when i look at the roster sheets you know you see a lot of a lot of oh is that 92 because these days that's old for sports yeah canada's got yeah canada's got a lot of these oh is that a 96 and you go down the american roster and you're like that's an 05 yeah that's an 04 no we need an 06 we need a bunch more 05s you know we need some o's i don't know i look at i look at the way they're developing the women's game at the university level and i think that's where you see the gap in development in canada where you're not getting
Starting point is 00:13:03 you don't have those stars on this team currently and they've decided to force feed this roster for the last 365 days and bang their head against the wall and say this is the team we have and this is the team we're going to go with up against the americans for the this olympics and it resulted in a loss and you can't look at that as a failure because as you can't not look at that as a failure because the goal for canada is to win gold and there needs to be a change there this was the last run that they have like just because of where their careers are at and because you lose this thing you're not going to get another shot of this some all-time great canadian hockey players who oh yeah it's going to be in the hall of fame one day yep i look at somebody like natalie spooner
Starting point is 00:13:47 the broadcast crew for the next olympics is gonna be nuts yeah the women sitting there doing the games right now i shouldn't be looking at it that way but that's gonna be insane yeah but i look at somebody like natalie spooner like this is probably her last run at it and you feel very you feel like there's a sad part in your heart for them to go out this way you wish they could have got the medal but we're about to usher in a new hopefully um era of women's hockey with the jen gardeners of the world and kristen o'neill and the younger talent on this team the team's going to be theirs for the next run four years a long time yeah i i don't think people remember how and i i keep making this comparison yes it's the men's but i think it's apt here
Starting point is 00:14:27 the 2006 canadian men's team that looked bleak man yeah that looked real well they but they intentionally brought a bunch of busted guys that was the one silver lining is you're like okay i know they could have brought a better team this will be the wake-up call and they will no i don't necessarily know who's waiting in the wings like i don't know if sydney crosby like the The next MPP is just waiting, sitting there, but they have four years to show themselves. It's a little nerve-wracking when you look at the list because when I say who are the best young talents in the PWHL
Starting point is 00:15:06 or coming to the PWHL or just in women's hockey, I say, oh, Caroline Harvey, fantastic player. You said just won MVP of the tournament. Oh, Abby Murphy does a sham god mid-game. Unbelievable. crazy taylor heisey you know championship first year of the p-dub probably one of the best players in league they have those are all americans yeah and that's every draft pick right yeah first ever draft pick that's scary when i list off all of the young talent it's not like even like
Starting point is 00:15:33 international there's nobody from sweden you know that i'm listening there it's i go to those american names so canada we need to get going here with this next regime of young talent yeah there is um she's still i want to say she's still only 17 but uh nella laposanova for slovakia she's committed to university and she's gonna be a demon she wouldn't be old enough to compete at these olympics no so that was the funny thing i was looking for her and i was like why isn't she oh she's literally not even what's the age of eligibility for the olympics i think it's 18 for yeah for hockey i think for hockey it is 18 it's so interesting because in certain sports i guess non-contact like you know at the olympics in the summer
Starting point is 00:16:18 games like well here's a 14 year old and she's doing 40 back the snowboard events they're like okay coming uh up to do a snowboard trick oh they're they're doing lefty 12 year old from japan yeah it's like what the hell's going on here well it's because they're they they are not afraid of anything because they never hurt themselves and they're light as hell right you know it's just you haven't put on your adult weight right ridiculous even in the gymnastics and summer game like you're talking about oh like oh that girl's 14 a bunch of poly pockets you're like man go back to school this isn't fair uh in literally one week uh she turns 18 oh she is committed to university of wisconsin next year she should commit to the scepters but same yeah
Starting point is 00:17:00 well the the problem is uh great as that is for the sport not canadian and i don't that's a problem pretend to sit here and know i know all of the amateur canadian talent or even just all of the young talent in the p-dub or across women's hockey in the game it's just when i look at the star power the americans have more of it from their young cast and we got more of it in the veteran cast easily yeah um but the young ones and their help from from the uh the vets too like megan killer scored that winner there's a vet on america 29 meshed a lot better yeah and yeah they have more of it i i kind of wondered too you brought it up earlier in the tournament i wonder about uh troy scott i i troy ryan troy ryan's great troy scott i don't even know who that you picked
Starting point is 00:17:45 the wrong two first names uh troy i did try oh he's awful i wonder about him like is he our sam you know yeah i don't think he's making those kind of egregious lineup decisions by the way we'll talk about sam later oh yeah of course uh the swedes love us in the ig comments is it time for a change i would like to see that yeah i think there's enough evidence here that he's a losing head coach against this american team like all he's done is coach this team to losses they surely have him figured out at this point yeah like oh my gosh what about the ninth time you don't need to be bad at coaching but like maybe it's you're not just you're not the guy for this role dude it's like the kings and the oilers i'm like no they'll get them they'll get them the sixth time
Starting point is 00:18:28 like it brought in panarin to do just that but then they lost fiala if they play each other again i pick the oilers and i'm wrong i don't even think you're allowed to give me shit for it no you i think i still think you're right yeah i think i'm gonna give you shit for being right you're asshole for picking the kings yeah so with troy ryan like i think he's had enough kicks of this can here against this team in the last year that he's not the guy they need some sort of shake up i think from the top down okay sometimes a good loss i mean that was a close loss but i think they got they got shocked i think in the in the round robins part and i think a good kick in the butt sometimes is the right thing right and and you kind of it galvanizes people to go well shit
Starting point is 00:19:13 i don't want to lose again we had four years to prepare for this you know so i really wish really really wish they were able to hold on because it would have been cool think think of what the show would be like right like well i guess we were wrong celebratory or like oh yeah you know even like the americans had so much more of the puck i know the shots were pretty even but that's what i'm saying even if they had one you still have to look at this like part of me part of me almost goes did they play were they well coached did they play exactly the kind of game that they needed to play with the personnel that they had um you know because they were able to keep up they collapsed to the net and when they got the puck wow they broke out with speed took
Starting point is 00:19:56 the shot if it goes in it goes in but again no one's gonna look at this as a success at the end of the day they lost they lost yeah i'm more on adam's side of this where you have to look at the totality of the results and even if they pulled off the greatest win in canadians women's hockey olympic history today there would still be enough evidence that it's not working yep yep yep now now and just a last note um mpp is 34 right now she can do it so we'll see it the next in 2030 in france she'll be the same age that sydney crosby is right now she can do it so if crosby is playing at these games i think the women's crosby can play we should tell her she'd be like 35 why can't you 35 next month uh well as saski stewart like to always tell us um uh
Starting point is 00:20:49 sydney crosby would kill to have marie philippe land's uh resume yeah yeah how dare i like i'm looking i was gonna read off her all her accomplishments from uh elite prospects i don't even know what some of these are like she's got she's got here i'll pull it up pull it up so everyone can just you need to see it me reading it off is gonna get boring look at that jesse's about to bring it up three i believe that's olympic golds four world championships is that two world under 18 silvers eight world championship silvers uh two olympic silvers one world championship bronze uh is that cwhl she got two uh like a lot 15 double ihf trophies like i don't even what's the tall one i don't even know what the
Starting point is 00:21:49 is that one time double ihf female player of the year okay so wrong by the way one yeah she should have had more than that one that's that should be one of those things where it's like wrong go back and try again yeah yeah one i agree show your face one what are you talking about also did a whole bunch along with women on both sides of this game to create a professional league in north america yeah uh-huh so much so much visionary yeah visionary yeah so not yeah not only did they have to do all that but they had to create a league too so they could get paid to play someone in the chat when we were going through like who could score the overtime winners uh they're like i'm really hoping for
Starting point is 00:22:33 like a power couple uh overtime winner laura stacy to mpp oh i was like that would have been funny i would like that very much that would have been cool hey steve i'd say jesse's looking pretty handsome today yeah it isn't just it isn't just that he's giving face he's giving face card it's not the face card though he's giving hot sweater but oh me yeah the guy who's traded in his canada jersey for a fabletics quarter zip oh yeah he's a part of the thank you zip mommy mafia now thank you look i love the color too you look you hit the green's a good color you look like the teacher who says call me jesse mr blake is my father i play the guitar and you might not know what to look at him but jesse blake is a fabletics vip 80 off everything and you know
Starting point is 00:23:22 you think it'd be one of those too good to be true things but look at them no no they do a fabulous job and this isn't a part of the jamar chase collection no but that collection has some really good stuff as well it does and you know i think um you got to be one of the over two million people to join fabletics vip there's more than 100 retail stores and there's like a community thing going on here and you should be a part of it uh new year fresh start for you look at look at look at jesse the model you could you could have a glow up like jess what if somebody's listening well i would just look at them i would suggest then you go to fabletics.com slash stp get 80 off everything when you sign up as a vip again it's fabletics.com
Starting point is 00:24:02 slash stp you take a quick style quiz and be sure to select stp when prompted to unlock your 80 off that's fabletics.com slash stp can't believe what i'm looking at sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and their way around on that is like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the
Starting point is 00:24:42 right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code dangle taskers across canada book up fast especially for same day tasks get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task rabbit app you should download that taskrabbit.ca code dangle trade ice skating at nathan phillips square for
Starting point is 00:25:30 ice cubes in your umbrella drink let porter airlines fly you from toronto pearson non-stop to 10 top sun destinations in mexico the caribbean and costa rica enjoy award-winning porter service toronto has loved for 20 years and start your vacation as soon as you're on the plane book your sunny getaway today at flyporter.com and actually enjoy economy all right now let's move over to the men's side where things are still going with the semi-finals tomorrow and don't forget steve's gonna do the 1040 stream i'm gonna do the 310 stream um and our schedule for the podcast will depend on how canada does because if canada loses tomorrow uh it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us to just jump in and preview the gold medal game right so if canada
Starting point is 00:26:19 lose this tomorrow jesse what do we do we'll be after canada's bronze medal game on saturday on saturday but how dare you put that into the universe but no i just want people to be aware but when they win we won't be doing that we'll be doing it saturday oh now you curse them the other way you said when there's no way to win here no way to win just say shut out oh we were during the stream yesterday you're an idiot can i did i tell you this no all right all right so so adam's this is awesome so yeah okay it's his first stream hella buck had a hella buck had a shutout until 90 seconds to go right yeah and uh and we just kept yelling shutout like oh you did it against the americans yeah that's fine and and then and
Starting point is 00:27:01 then one of our like amazing amazing people who's there for every stream her name is cat she's from florida giggling cat yeah giggling cat yeah that's the cat the cat's fan however you wanted to talk she dropped a 50 super chat and said i'm paying you to shut up and pay 50 to tell adam to shut the fuck up that minute that minute can't uh that's money well spent the vintage ad scored that minute that goal was frigging disgusting it was great we'll get into it we're not gonna do it now first so jesse can you pull this up yeah uh schedule will either be saturday afternoon or uh friday afternoon now i want to keep this i want to keep this jersey on but i can't because i'm too damn hot must be because nathan mckinnon's spirit i'm also kind
Starting point is 00:27:45 of hot and i don't want to stink it up because i gotta wear this for a couple streams just arrived but these are the team canada men's jerseys uh i got my boy not my boy he's your boy i love nathan mckinnon so much so much i've been waiting to cheer for nathan mckinnon again i've been dying to cheer for nathan mckinnon again um it's fun it's better than not it's so much better than cheering against them drew gets to live like this i know i'm gonna kick your ass by the way huh my oh wait did it fall i didn't know it fell i had it on the back of my chair i'm confiscating this for the rest of jesse pulled the first tweet up because quinn hughes was at the game today and he was seeing ghosts again this is my favorite bit i love that he's in on it too
Starting point is 00:28:28 i love that he's in this poor guy why is he standing up he's the only one you're getting or get rid of the other box batty yeah look at him on the left side there what is happening why is he there what's going on the ghost commanded him yeah i guess so it's the ghost um so i think it's gotten stronger because like europe's like pretty haunted right it's older there's some older ghosts right there's yeah a lot of and then so and it's like oh yeah you know the other one i wanted to bring up is potentially the greatest olympic tweet of all time oh and this comes from muck muck zero zero zero one and i think it's the most apt description of the canadian goaltending you've ever seen in your life
Starting point is 00:29:18 and he says jordan binnington is the dominic hasik of mike smith's i'm like damn no no no notes mike smith i believe was also an olympian he was the third goalie i'm pretty sure he was i forget which one uh but it wasn't it must have been social it must have been the satch uh but he was uh mike smith had like a good couple of runs i remember the coyotes got all the way to the conference final right no he was one of those goalies that had two gears liability and unbeatable he just hey mike give us a 900 game no it's here's an 850 for you yeah or a 970 what a guy those are your options that's what we serve at this restaurant like what a strange goalie and bennington very much is the dominic hashek
Starting point is 00:30:12 of mike smith's yes no question um yesterday uh team canada took on check him and uh jordan binnington was spectacular oh i thought he was pretty damn good when he needed to be wait there it is there it is when he needed to be and that's him in a nutshell yes now you were pretty upset at binnington early in the game well nerds might argue that when you need to be is once the game has begun and uh first goal so I'm trying to remember them all in my head first goal that's a bit of a breakdown from Canada I don't necessarily put it on him second goal is a really good shot from Pasternak I didn't like how deep he was and it wasn't necessarily the goals he allowed because people were like well what what uh the first one the second one and then
Starting point is 00:31:11 anything that's not those two shots well whatever he kept them out he was giving up a lot of rebounds he was swimming he was swimming he's one of those goalies who when he's swimming it looks like his equipment doesn't fit he went to the garrett spark school of his equipment doesn't look like it fits go back and watch carrot sparks highlight i don't think his equipment fit jordan binning jordan binnington does that sometimes and then when they needed him the most um he locked in yeah he locked now the third one i don't put on him or any other canadian player because it was ill-gotten goods yeah but um what i was saying during the stream is like okay are you performing poorly no are you the second best goalie in this game by leaps and bounds right
Starting point is 00:32:04 is this one your fault no is this one your fault no is this one your fault no but we have three pick one save one it's a different game i sat there thinking that canada is too good of a hockey nation and hockey is too important to us and we have too many hockey players for our goaltending to be a question mark every game like the fifth best in this tournament if i'm ranking goaltenders maybe even way further than that like i i'm disappointed in the development of canadian goaltenders because we shouldn't enter a game like that and be like okay every time we touch the ice we're gonna have second best goaltender and he might like outperform expectations but who knows what we're gonna get yeah that's the thing you never you're not you're
Starting point is 00:32:54 not sure you're not sure and that has always been my issue with biddington and i will ride for biddington as long as he's on my team he was unbelievable in the four nations final unbelievable and tomorrow or tomorrow yesterday was the confirmation bias olympics uh we'll get we'll get to all the marner stuff but the chat was full because canada's losing with under four minutes to go you see it was a mistake that bennington and no one other than me like a second ago was after the game was talking about bennington no one no one no one not a soul we have to though yes because we're expected to go beyond the headline right and we have to and i i will put let me just put it plainly for you sure so i thought billet biddington was spectacular when
Starting point is 00:33:49 needed but i did hear those things i will also say like 90 seconds ago or whatever it was you want an extremely unpopular take given given retrospect nick suzuki mitch martyr and mark stone were all awful throughout most of that game and sam reinhardt i don't know what happened to i would love it if he looked bad he didn't look he didn't look at all neither did mitch canada had one line going and they really had like four guys it was harley had a great game mckinnon celebrini mcdavid had great games and outside of that little camel car too there's the five outside of those five guys everybody else was like where are you i thought the checks were brilliant yeah they were brilliant oh yeah they wanted it more they were all over canada all they
Starting point is 00:34:32 were dogged yeah that's the point though they didn't play like there's a skill to being the underdog uh and playing the game as the second most skilled team in the game canada did that for slovakia's job of that at this turn oh yeah but canada did that for basically most of the game against the united states definitely after the first period there's a skill to being the second most skilled and still coming out with uh with a win um i didn't think the checks played like that at all i thought they were going toe to toe yeah blow for blow like that non-nhl guys as well said lack i know what he scored was as a great well and he scored because of that mark stone pass that marks west what the hell and he i'm like it's mark stone what do you mean you
Starting point is 00:35:20 could tell there were nerves there were nerves it no he's mark stone supposed to be as consistent as the sun and uh wasn't yeah and not in that moment i think that's what's so important about talking about this game is we do need to acknowledge that you know you could play a horrible game and still come up a hero and and i look at uh you know we talked about bennington no one's talking about bennington today he made some great spectacular saves they won great good job done nick suzuki non-factor on the wing the entire tournament they put him at center when crosby's injured he decides to stay out late and we'll break down the goal in a second here and and does an amazing thing and all of a sudden well okay now we're in overtime and mitch marner
Starting point is 00:36:00 decides to walk by his old teammate david comp who's supposed to be a defensive specialist walks right through three checks and roofs it i thought that was a miscommunication but we'll talk about that it's it is it's it's so interesting that's what makes international competition so great because it's like yeah they had a bad game but that guy who had a bad game was objectively great on that one shift and that's all that matters you i want to talk about this i want to start with the controversy at three two oh i think i think this game the six six guys on the ice the six guys on the ice and if you were some people argue eight or nine because yeah there's a if you want a screenshot any nhl game there's like 42 guys on the ice that's like this was actual six people
Starting point is 00:36:45 in play playing the puck all three zones yes as well and it wasn't for a second and then six guys celebrating the goal because they all stayed out there for the huddle to celebrate i swear to god i swear to god this happened i was a kid i was nine or ten i it was leafs red wings red wings score no surprise red wings in the 90s come on and they score and he head taps his buddies he goes one two three four five and then his face changes he goes what the oh and they called it back i don't think they reviewed it either i think the the evidence on the ice was there's six of them yeah they just celebrated with six of them and they ended up calling the goal back it was a regular season game if any of you sickos remember what i'm talking about that would be lovely but
Starting point is 00:37:37 like i'm trying to think of the amount of times i've ever seen this happen it's it's i could count on one hand it's rare it's so rare and what's crazy guys is that it was not challengeable so even Canada didn't know yeah but and and one I didn't pick it up in the moment one of the Czech players admitted after the game that he knew oh yeah but uh what's he supposed to do call it back even if even if John Cooper had wanted to there would have been nothing he could have done there was no challenge on that play it's not a penalty it was one of the most egregious misses like in refereeing that I've seen a long time because of how everything unfolded the sixth guy onto the ice was palat who gets the puck and scores the goal this right the extra person
Starting point is 00:38:21 was extra available for the puck yeah because he was an extra skater they cheated to get this goal and it could have been the game winner that eliminated canada so i was asked today my wife i'll just throw my wife the bus my wife um she's like so like were they cheating like did they do that on purpose i'm like no no one ever does that on purpose you get a penalty for it it usually gets called i don't think it was this uh master plan i think they just messed up and then the bigger mess up was no one saw it was an accidental cheating yeah you literally just played with an extra man and that guy's uncovered because canada doesn't have enough people to cover that person no and he goes and scores a goal but what a mistake by the refs it was like defensive or
Starting point is 00:39:11 sorry yeah checks defensive zone yeah they benefit from it they rush it through the neutral zone and then the guy who was the sixth man on scored how do how does nobody catch that i i like what why why are you on the ice to call plays and call penalties if you don't call that then we should just play with like everybody do your own rules and call the game yourself let's call it what it is like what was the two linesmen that missed it were nhl linesmen and i am not surprised at all now i've already told you that position's useless listen and they just proved it to me well the refs missed it too i they did but like the line is tall usually isn't it the ref everybody there's four guys out there i don't know if the two refs were i think one of
Starting point is 00:39:56 them might have been double hf i don't know but i know the two lines i know i believe there are people wearing zebra costumes who should be counting how many people they have on the ice none of them got it oh my god why are you employed well if you're at the olympics you're the best of the best you're the best of the best this is the cream of the crop gary gary buddy knock knock um i think you might be a little wrong on this one pal those guys can't ref again not not in this tournament not any game ever well hopefully not they can't get in the playoffs no way no way like they're gonna go back they're gonna ref games in the schedule there's no way you can let them in the playoffs now canada won so my body is allowing me to feel bad for them
Starting point is 00:40:45 if they lost oh yeah no i'd be calling for the rest of my life i would be upset about i'm still mad i'm still mad straight up i'm like canada lost you robbed nick suzuki of a game-winning goal how fucking dare you what um who's the ref who missed the high sticker am i right who's the ref who missed the high stick on gilmore uh carrie frazier carrie frazier he wore that forever and we were five yeah and i still know that when that happened um i know about it but like my uncles they're they're dying breath god damn like like because they were adults when that happened gary betman didn't want a toronto montreal final he wanted a montreal la final yeah the script was written well and and then was gary the commissioner yeah that was his first year wasn't it three
Starting point is 00:41:32 yep interesting um now yeah i know right maddie you were not born yet well if you're the olympics thank god yeah thank god and if you're those refs listen right now you have egg on your face and you're being punished for it think of how much worse it could have been yeah oh hey uh can i just have the camera it's still fucking bad oh yeah oh yeah no one's still really fucking oh yeah be better you know what i'm tired at night i'm so sick of the public referees complaining on behalf of the no well no that's ridiculous of these people but adam before this show began maddie was coming down the stairs and she tripped and dropped some of her pad tie but she didn't drop all of it right she didn't drop all of it so it wasn't as bad as it could
Starting point is 00:42:23 have been yeah no no thank god that canada won she could have had no pad tie yeah yeah the pad tie is still half in the bowl they would have ruled brett hall brett hall's goal a goal so i'm gonna say um oh hold on there you go is the pad tie half full or half empty we gotta we gotta look at it okay that's half full yeah there we go half full all right because we did win good stuff now so so you know it's it's important to understand why nick suzuki's on the ice so we talked about the goal and why it was ridiculous that the check scored and whatever right nick suzuki probably shouldn't have been on the ice for that shift if radko gudis hadn't been radko gudis now what very clearly from the start of the game the checks are like
Starting point is 00:43:10 pound sydney crosby into oblivion he's an old man yeah those bias refs in favor of canada missing two interference calls on the captain radco gudas uh who is i listen i love the ducks uh i will be happy i hope he has he's a minus 50 the rest of the way and i mean that going back years screw that guy all the ways okay like i'm on the if you are an anti-radco radco gudas person i want to join your club dude the 2023 leafs panther series someone posted a clip of the whistle going there's the puck goes into the corner the whistle blows and a solid mississippi after that radco gudis fucks david camp's life up blows him up it's the hit of the playoffs was not eligible to be hit even sort of kind of and if i remember correct it wasn't even a penalty
Starting point is 00:44:08 I'm going to ask next time. Don't put so much on fucks. That was you can dub over the clip. Can I also say that the Leafs responded to Radko Gutis by fighting him, right? No, no. They were like, no, our strength is our power play fart anyway. No, but sorry, just dirty plays and injuries seem to follow this guy around. And I got to say, I feel for him.
Starting point is 00:44:35 So Nick Suzuki shouldn't... It's unfortunate. Wrong place, wrong time, Radko. Nick Suzuki shouldn't be on the ice, but he caused me... I feel bad for Radko Gudis. I feel just a giant... Gudis was right about everything.
Starting point is 00:44:50 He had a beard screaming in Joseph Wohl's face. So Gudis takes down... He basically wrestles him to the ground. There's probably some sort of knee injury, but the fact today that there's talk that crosby could play in one of or both the last two games tells me and i'm sure penguins fans will want to hear this too that it's not the end of the world but it probably sucks okay it's definitely encouraging for penguins fans he's definitely
Starting point is 00:45:18 not done for the season no like that's i think we can all rule that out and john cooper is purported to have said to team canada before the beginning of the third period do not let this be sydney crosby's last game at the olympics and if that doesn't get you fucking fired up to run through a wall i don't know what will apparently crosby came into the dressing room addressed them too and nick suzuki shouldn't have been on the ice if crosby was playing nick suzuki wouldn't have been there and it was so interesting watching this guys because nick suzuki went from i'm not really sure what to do on the wing to i know exactly what to do at center and i'm really effective at it he stays out he's 55 seconds into his shift both his guys go off and he talks about
Starting point is 00:45:58 this arpin bass who did a great article about this and he said um i thought he was dumping it with crosby out he's like i knew i had to step up and do something he said it's kind of something marty saint louis talks about if you're by yourself and you know your line mates are changing maybe just try to get it in go for check by yourself and buy yourself some fresh time for the fresh guys to go after it and i was able to do that and that's exactly what he did and what was crazy he was like he he forechecked but then he he got it in the puck skirted out and then all of a sudden he's in front of the net tipped in goal we have to thank the montreal canadians for yesterday's win we do i have always said this i've always said this i love cheering
Starting point is 00:46:41 for montreal canadians captain nick suzuki oh yeah is that is that a thing you always said absolutely ole ole and all that i have always said that set bond i i think it's awesome that he directly credited saint louis for that i thought that was cool the habs and the fantastic coaching they have and the great system they have and the type of hockey they play and nick suzuki brought that to team canada and god bless he did um else canada might not be sitting here heading to the zombies and so he four checks it but then he could have just bailed like okay the next two guys are on i'm gonna bail we're gonna get fresh legs on the a leaf would have bailed well oh no oh adam don't do that what are you oh well thanks twitter mentions yeah i know
Starting point is 00:47:28 thanks everyone in my online footprint for the last 24 hours leaf would have bailed yeah so nick suzuki you know i'm right instead of going off he he posts up net front because jarvis gets to tase oh jarvis also garbage for like 50 minutes yeah he was he had a terrible useless terrible game there's no he did canada yes yes yes yes i'm trying to i don't know how many canadians have played poorly the problem has been and this was suzuki's problem up to this point finding a role right like yeah i don't i can't point to a shift where i'm like sam reinhardt played terrible there but i can tell you hasn't really done anything um hasn't done anything bad i wasn't done anything this shift terrible sorry i watched jarvis shifts that were
Starting point is 00:48:17 terrible he looked maybe this maybe like well this this i think has been part of the problem these guys some of them are out of their element a little bit and i mean suzuki's got to be one of best players for however many minutes they have left in this tournament because how does that not go directly to your legs it's like you know elite athlete captain of his team millions of dollars hundreds of career points needs to be reminded he's good but he's you know what i mean he's a human being though he is a human being and they're all human beings and not all of them well sydney crosby and nathan mckinnon we've seen at this tournament they're made of flesh and bone like the rest of us but that there's something wrong with those guys yeah they're connor mcdavid
Starting point is 00:49:03 there's something wrong with him right so those guys are the crazy crazy outlier like there are times wilson looks nervous yeah jarvis's looked nervous bennett was a little tentative and then i thought he came into his own and then supposedly he got sick third time sanheim looks a little nervous um i gotta be reinhardt like just he's a random man out there it speaks to how much this means though to these guys because tom wilson's a guy who's won a stanley cup sam bannon's won a stanley cup these guys are competed at the highest level of the highest game and even those guys because it's the olympics because they're fighting for team canada and the pressure that comes with that and like you can't lose this if you're canada
Starting point is 00:49:44 they are a little nervous and i had flashbacks to nagato i'm not gonna lie because i stayed up and i watch or i got up early i watched that fucking game the damn checks where the damn check damn checks and i was just like oh like that was gretzky's olympics right he was supposed to get a goal and dominic hasik stole it from him and then i think they lost the bronze medal game too because they were so depressed wayne gretzky as a player never won an olympic gold medal or a medal at all didn't win a medal not just a gold never won so i i is gretzky bad he is yeah oh i I mean, by the pure stats, Gretzky is the man's the man's is trophy case. Gretzky is bun.
Starting point is 00:50:28 He's loser maxing, you might say. Yeah. But yeah, so. So over Suzuki is able to get the puck loose. Jarvis gets it to Taze. Taze throws it on the net and a beautiful tip by Nick Suzuki. It's a bunch of guys who are having awful games. Step up and they have a great moment.
Starting point is 00:50:47 and that was awesome and that's what you need that's all under four to go hey that's what the leafs never get i'll tell you that a bunch of guys having bad games it is a fucking about the life so everything about the leafs after this game i can make it about the least right now let me let me stuff is about let me put it into perspective when suzuki goes on that rush there's about four minutes give or take there's four minutes left in the game that's 240 seconds if he dumps the puck and goes for a change how many of those remaining 240 seconds are spent changing going after the puck chasing after the checks trying to take it off them and if you're lucky enough to do all those things in that order you're half gassed and 20 30 seconds have gone
Starting point is 00:51:39 off the clock out of those 240 he's a hero oh yeah he's a freaking hero for that goal for that goal and that is was that the last goal that i think we're done talking about goal we don't need to talk about goals i think where that was it that was well that should have been the game winner it should have been the game technically speaking it should have been the game winner it's almost like a happy accident uh like what if what if canada needed this you know well and and so and and listen i hope that they were able to pull some some confidence out of this game because the checks Listen, I have been fucking banging this drum all season long. I knew going into yesterday, I'm like, Lucas Dostal is going to have a good game.
Starting point is 00:52:17 This fucking guy is the next stud goalie in this NHL. He's extremely good. He's outrageous. That guy stood on his head. He was awesome. I also have to say this about before we get to the overtime goal. I, without Josh Morrissey playing at his best or playing at all, we have kale mccarr and harley no harley was good harley was all over the i think i thought
Starting point is 00:52:42 he was exceptional i think we could have used another puck mover in this olympic tapes was pretty active he was actively in the car did the mccarr stuff yeah saves was excellent next to mccarr and harley i think had a great game do oilers fans maybe have a point no do they maybe adam's just taking the list of like what's the hottest thing i can get going on twitter all right so edmonton oilers fans evan bouchard everything's about the leafs let's go history i told you guys yo listen i know that people will die for colton pareko i don't get it anymore history's written by the victor yep and but i ride for colton pareko while he's on my team hell yeah no there's a game i've referenced a number of times over the past week
Starting point is 00:53:26 uh 2010 both you right now putting you on the spot since we've talked about this so many times 2010 were you semi-final i was there in the building for this game 2010 semi-final was canada versus lovacu very good adam what was the score it was close that's all i know two nothing it was and then it was three nothing and then it was three one and then it was three two and then it was oh huge save from luongo canada goes the gold medal game how many of you remember that shit how many listening to this right now remember that shit how many people remember the americans were up in the golden goal game or tied it tied it late excuse me in the golden goal game who scored who scored before who were the four goal scorers before crosby there were four parise
Starting point is 00:54:23 was one parise was one i don't got the first american goal i have no idea suitor i have no idea kessler was it kessler yeah wow who got the two canadian goals uh tase tase got the first one and dowdy nope he had a great olympics no idea cory perry cory perry okay there you go cory pair i don't fucking remember it now like i i say all that like there's there's you oh man they almost they almost they almost doesn't matter 2014 sochi was the canadian women's team better than the american women's team i can tell you who won canadian one now you can talk about all the butt pucker and stuff where the the puck hit the post on the empty net and they had a five on three power play and over they won right so this is one of those games that feels perilous
Starting point is 00:55:16 in the moment if they win it's just that they won that's it who to canada play in the semi-final in 2014 i don't remember you shouldn't i know that they almost lost to latvia in that or there was like a close last it was the closest they came to losing yeah that's all i remember do you think evan bouchard should be on the team no i but i think they don't think he should be i think they need a bug mover back there but i also tell you what while they are winning games i'm not gonna be so profoundly weird about it and basically cheer against my team so that your nhl team's favorite player you're like everyone look good there are too many people and i guess this dovetails into the overtime goal who want not only want their team to win they want them to win exactly
Starting point is 00:56:10 the way that they want them to and i'm here to tell you i don't give a flying fuck i don't care if canada scores the gold medal goal in overtime and it is mitch marner from brad marshand and sam bennett i don't give a fuck those guys i just want them to win those guys you're on your team They're all on my team. Yeah. I don't care if it's Tom Wilson. I don't care if Tom Wilson elbows the puck in. Well, you might, because that'd be-
Starting point is 00:56:38 Oh, yeah. No, that might come back. That might come back. But, you know, people were profoundly weird after the Mitch Marner goal. So weird. Mitch Marner- Very weird. Had not had much of a game.
Starting point is 00:56:49 Had been kind of disappeared. And Adam to the list. Oh, I said it at the beginning. He didn't have a good game. Yeah. And I'm like, where is this guy? We're not isolating him as a guy who had a bad game. He was one of many.
Starting point is 00:57:00 it turns out when mitch marner wears the maple leaf he is clutch it just has to be a red one and he or a black one in this case he walked in with three check defenders back they had perfect positioning on him had him in a triangle and just walked through them now was it a miscommunication i don't give a fuck he didn't stop going he didn't stop going and he shot a fantastic backhand and he score so sexual backhand he goes he he has two paths to go through the triangle there's camp seamich and seamich and i don't know who was on the other side um camp and seamich opened up the most subtle mitch marner sized hole for a fraction of a second and he took it see mitch he's like a stride off if he just trusts whoever it was mitch also made contact
Starting point is 00:57:57 oh yeah like and he was the high guy he's right there he's right there and if see mitch maybe trusts whoever the other check was i forget a hair or more takes one fewer half crossover to the left maybe he doesn't even get the shot off i think the only thing that could have made that goal better is if radko gudas was on the ice well like i think that is the only thing i don't know he beat doing a lot of three on three over yeah i thought about that i was like oh what if gudas ends it and i'm like what if gudas touches the ice that would be a crazy decision i don't know if he touched the ice um marner beat the checks with the goal they almost beat canada with because that was the move that nate just tried to beat binnington with yep that little backhand floater and that that might
Starting point is 00:58:47 be the one all night where like i guess i was surprised it beat dostal well and i think uh i think again you know all night it was in the middle of the day it was it's a person that didn't have a great game but stepped up at the right moment and is a national hero and deservedly so what was strange was the online discourse afterwards do you have the mark stone quote uh i thought the mark stone the mark stone quote was fucking hilarious by the way yeah uh he said he's always i'm paraphrasing i don't have it right in front of me uh but he said he's always clutch it's it's just a toronto thing as in like yep unironically agree mark's right no notes mark's right i don't think he meant it the way he said it but
Starting point is 00:59:30 perfect perfect what do you think i just what do you think i didn't like his time in toronto like out of habit matt porter says stone asked about marner's rep for not coming up big as a teammate i haven't experienced that four nations gets a huge ot goal for us makes an incredible play for the winner than tonight when we need him most when we need him the most he makes the play so um i think it's a toronto thing and no notes i think that there's so much truth in this thing that for the rest of Mitch Marner's career, you can't say that he's a choke artist. He's proven that when the stakes are the highest,
Starting point is 01:00:13 he can't do it. Yeah. Like he can get it done. So labeling him. He just didn't do it here. He didn't do it. He didn't get it done with Toronto for a whole bunch of reasons.
Starting point is 01:00:21 And we know his game five through seven stats. Yes. But to say that he doesn't have it to get it done, it would be a lot. And I think Marner forever, for the rest of his career, is clutch and this is why hold on a sec and this is why i gotta ask this what about we i need to see it in the nhl playoffs too i think that's fair i i valid i would 100 argue that this is
Starting point is 01:00:44 higher stakes also valid sure what matters more is the nhl playoffs now well i think what matters more is whatever's happening at the time i think i think i don't i don't think that changes what you should think of him in an ability where there's a high pressure moment and whether you think the nhl playoffs are higher tier than the olympics what i know is at a moment when canada had the nation's hockey identity on the line in this quarterfinals game that's true he did the thing for canada and that to me is as clutch a moment as he could have in any moment and and this is this is i totally agree with you overtime winner in game one of the four nation face-off set up the overtime winner in the gold medal game or whatever you want to call it the final
Starting point is 01:01:38 of the four nation face-off and he gets an elimination game overtime winner at the olympics holy hot dog santa claus shit that is incredibly clutch what i don't have time for at all is people who are like why did why were leaf fans not fond of his time in toronto i'm not going through it again we laid it out for you many times and i'm not repeating myself because i was right the first time it's you who needs to catch up to me i'm done i'm done you know how they say the internet's forever go back and watch hey i've we've laid this out how many times not doing it again they scored hooray yeah this does not very easy for me use this does not his excuse his time in toronto no it does not don't get to go back and be like oh now all of that was
Starting point is 01:02:37 you should have kept going at it with marner no he failed in toronto but he has it in him to rise of these and mark stone might have a point it is probably a toronto thing um and that's something that the leap we've been begging the leafs to deal with for the better part of half a decade and they just simply won't yeah so anyway it's it's like it's like cheating on your wife and then making a nice meal for valentine's day and being like see i never cheated on you what the fuck is it like that what are you talking about sorry is that a one-to-one it's a one-to-one apples to apples i i want to say this i enjoyed the shit out of that call it was so satisfying his celebration afterwards and you know what it made me feel it made me feel the same hope that
Starting point is 01:03:22 i felt in 2019 when i watched him block a shot with his face against the bruins in game five or game three i was there i fucking watched it that guy is there and i'm excited i think he's got his confidence now and i watch out vegas in the playoffs if he's if he's playing like sure and that to me is also a reason why when it was coming down to the wire with the marner contract stuff and we all know he was out a year early i don't think we do jesse please explain when they were when we heard the little things from probably darren dregger it was darren dregger that if they can get him at the number they want they're willing to run it back even if they lose even if they have that loss to florida and that's the reason that if they could get him signed they
Starting point is 01:04:05 would still do it because yeah yeah of course he's great jesse they offered him 13 million if you if you wanted to take that number toronto was okay with running this thing keeping it going because that's in him and they know that he's not on team canada because he won a contest he's amazing or found something inside a cereal box like he's a great player might have found something inside of a cereal box but it's not related it's not related he does love cereal we do know that No, I just think, I think if Canada wins an Olympic overtime game, you're a Canadian fan. Canada wins an Olympic overtime game.
Starting point is 01:04:46 You go, yes, take that Leafs fans. You're an enormous butthole weirdo. Really very strange and terrible to watch sports with. Because butthole people and not good butthole people, these are the not good butthole people. That person thinks that Leafs fans are upset that Canada won. Yes. No.
Starting point is 01:05:10 We're thrilled. Are you kidding me? I fucking love this. No. I'm happy, and I hope Mitch Marner scores 12 goals a game this entire tournament and Canada wins. You know what would be helpful? Is if we had evidence of other players,
Starting point is 01:05:25 I have a track record of not traditionally liking all that much, scoring big goals for Canada. i was in the building when marshan scored the tournament winning goal at the world cup of hockey 2016 shit you were and guess what i did you want to know what my reaction was i went fuck and i ripped my canada jersey off and left the building like to be fair i stood up and celebrated and sung the anthem with the rest of them you freaking weirdo that was after that was before most of the marshan shenanigans against the league yeah no bullshit 2013 was enough 2013 was enough it did grow from there but you ran mitch marner out of town so you don't me
Starting point is 01:06:03 person i need a race don't get to cheer for him i know i don't know why vegas fans don't like me he's the reason he's there internet i'm the reason he's there the internet told me steve dangle doesn't get to root for mitch marner because he chased him out of toronto man how about this fuck you you don't get to tell me what to do hooray mitch and hooray canada hey steve I didn't know you had that much power, man. Congratulations. Me neither. You've really come to the mainstream.
Starting point is 01:06:29 You know what? I'm taking this jersey off because it's Mitch's line mate. I'm taking it off. No, yeah. You don't want to disrespect him that way. What? Think of what? What do people think of me?
Starting point is 01:06:40 They think you're a Leaf hater. You want them to lose so your views go up. This is why. This is why. You want Marner to leave. To get more views. We've talked about the anti-Toronto or anti-Ontario thing. You're going to miss the playoffs this year.
Starting point is 01:06:53 you must be loving it cash those fucking checks even cash those fucking oh Adam don't jinx it there's nothing that we love more than Toronto missing the playoffs oh great shit yeah can't wait to stream fucking Sabres games or some shit yeah that's gonna be sick
Starting point is 01:07:15 Sabres Red Wings first round Sabres Red Wings oh my god an actual red sabers stream yeah it's actually alarmingly possible instead of please first round red sabers stream calling dibs although habs we'll talk we'll talk but all those teams are full of players i don't like so so what so how people are strange guys get offline fuck anyway what are you doing uh so what are you doing
Starting point is 01:07:57 hear that it's your money calling it wants a promotion elevate your savings with the scotia high interest savings account always earn high regular interest rates that grow the more you save and invest conditions apply visit scotiabank.com hisa to learn more scotiabank you're richer than you think hey so we've talked to you about the little native hockey league before formed in 1971 because of um first nation children in canada being shut out of tournaments because of racism let's just call it what it is it went from 17 teams back then to now 50 years later 270 strong that's awesome that's a lot of teams sure yeah some would say so many there's so many teams in the best way yes uh it's much more than a hockey tournament as we know celebration of
Starting point is 01:08:48 talent resilience and unbreakable pride uh and it's kind of like a barrier breaker for the first nations community here in canada a testament to perseverance uh and the power of community last year 270 teams 707 games in four and a half days over march wow uh that's wild so um they're looking to not only build awareness of the tournament but also elevate indigenous youth athletes and strengthen development pathways within ontario this year's theme is empowering girls and women so google little native hockey league or l nhl um and have a look be a part of it go to a game support any way that you can so um are the other things that we should mention in that game is macklin celebrini is now leading the tournament and
Starting point is 01:09:35 scoring goal scoring uh future is red and white good at hockey good hey hey just throwing this out there uh conor mcdavid's deals up in a couple of years macklin celebrating conor mcdavid look pretty good together i don't know you think mcdavid's going to san jose or don't macklin's going to edmonton i don't think mcdavid will ever leave edmonton honestly uh at least not at this point but um uh but macklin's going damn damn wouldn't it be fun to think of the possibilities no Macklin would stay in San Jose I'm just you know he's gonna sign a mega extension this off season I don't know watch out um now in a I should have a segment called oh that's rich um with the billionaire because I want to quote the Czech fucking coach after this game
Starting point is 01:10:22 if there's anybody who's more shameless than Radko Gudis it's the Czech head coach and uh his name is his last name is rule h uh-huh he said the referees really worry me oh they do what they're allowing against us is unacceptable and after every game we send them two or three clips where they confirm that the opponent should have been penalized i don't understand it i just don't get it i feel like everyone is afraid to call anything against canada we were bait he said we were basically playing against six players i don't want to make I don't want to make excuses and no one has to agree with me, but the video backs me up.
Starting point is 01:11:05 Oh yeah. In this respect, it's not a fair tournament. It's, it was happening to us even against Denmark. The mix of NHL and European referees hasn't worked. Everyone calls the game differently. I,
Starting point is 01:11:17 let me just say this. Um, you don't want to make excuse and then you make a bunch of excuses. Yeah. You sour puss loser. You fucking lost. accept the loss understand that referees let i will give him this those refs had an all-time bad game yep it was awful all the czech fans i heard from were like listen it was shit both
Starting point is 01:11:41 ways it was shit both ways and he's right but but to unironically talk to uh czech media afterwards and say these things it's embarrassing no well it is adam jesse let's hold hands because it's the olympics all right and the olympics are about coming together okay so we're gonna learn about each other's cultures okay so the word of the day this is like sesame street yeah the word of the day is doslova anyone want to take a stab at what doslova means sure sure literally that means literally oh we would have basically played against six players canada dos lova played against six players and you got a gold out of it you got a goal out of it he said dos lova six players he's freaking quit your whining and then remember this is a check to english translations
Starting point is 01:12:41 it's not perfect he said i was really i'm really sorry about it the guys deserved a top level performance from the referees they always admit afterwards that we were right but never nothing ever changes buddy welcome to the nhl refs uh he said we should have had uh power plays against canada but they were afraid that pasta or natchez would score another power play goal and if gudas was penalized drew dowdy would have been hit yeah would have been uh hit to say i slop no this is real this is oh my god it's in so not only shut this not only is it online but luke fox has it in his art yeah yeah now keep going yeah um and uh i believe that is it listen yeah he's listen this guy cow buddy listen i understand being emotional after loss and all that shit and the
Starting point is 01:13:29 refs were bad you can't i got a power play goal too right would have been nice to use it more like any of those hits on crosby um friggin what are you what hits is he even referring to because i know i think pasta wanted one on gouda's had that rowdy nailed him gouda gouda's had the roughing penalty for finishing a check but it no it's canadian huh you finished a canadian no no but um that was a makeup call for the crosby aggression thing that should have been called and the refs in the nhl are fucking famous for that yes i missed the real penalty so i'm gonna fuck you by giving you a shitty penalty on something you don't deserve no adam he's right that's a myth that's not something that was confirmed on microphone by an active nhl ref
Starting point is 01:14:23 who had 20 plus years of experience yeah no you know you're right it's it's it's bullshit in theory he's right and i get that he's riding for his god no he's not the referee suck but that that's fucking lame dude like it is pretty lame and you gotta i but i also here's what i also love about international hockey he's talking about fairness this tournament's not supposed to be fair this tournament is supposed to be completely unfair why do you have france playing canada are you fucking serious if we're talking about fairness international sports i get that the refs are supposed to be fair international tournaments are not fair league play is supposed to be as fair as possible everybody's given the same basic set of parameters and you
Starting point is 01:15:06 try to make the best team and you and you give it a go right international play is not that canada had 170 million dollars on the ice yesterday the checks had 60 million on the ice yesterday it's not fair welcome to international play i thought a european would get that well especially a guy that's been to world championships and won them like this guy he just wants equal footing in terms of the rules and i'm here to tell you you got it you in fact if any team has the right to complain it ain't yours it's right after the game emotions are high sure i understand you're dead wrong i also love european quotes they're the best oh they don't give a shit talk they don't give a shit have we heard from the swedes yet like i i need i need to know i need
Starting point is 01:15:55 to know what they're saying um but anyway i just thought oh not him that that no no i want the players that ends our segment on the quote huh the willy quote what was the willy hold on we'll get to it the lessons he learned oh willy bill if you wanted we could do that next i don't know where you're going adam but you can end our segment will not the lesson guy will will will oh my god all right now i did the uh the usa sweden game and i've been doing all sweden usa games so it's kind of been perfect that they played each other um and i'll tell you this we joke that you should have done two streams at once we should have set up two feeds so that there's one that's a sweden feed and one usa feed but they're the same feed but i'm like
Starting point is 01:16:37 do i go back and forth is it the same feed or do i go can't read a camera oh okay no we set up two cameras too yeah i have to put the jersey on every single time yeah when you go back and forth that'd be a lot of work i'd be very sweaty very quickly um usa sweden 2-1 in overtime as we know quinn hughes hit the overtime shot to win the game which i love unreal shop uh it was fucking that he hit that he hit no score after the first period usa scores and then i think they just tried to park the bus which i think was a mistake um i i want to low-key just i want to say this again and rangers and penguins fans are going to back me on this one mike sullivan's best days are behind him i thought team usa played a very good game because of their talent mike sullivan's best days
Starting point is 01:17:23 are behind him and he might win gold and i will still say that those are it's a matchup between two insanely stacked teams that are maybe not coached by the right guy well now on the on the on the swedish side let me just give you this okay so phil forsberg finally got a spot in the lineup third line winger by the way they they actually gave phil forsberg a spot and we talked about this earlier there was one game where he played 107 another game where he played 931 and they're like oh yeah i guess he's probably pretty good at hockey we know headman was sitting on the bench although sam halam is so great at dressing seven defensemen and then not playing the seventh defenseman what did he do with the 13th forward guys what do you do who was the 13th forward
Starting point is 01:18:04 was it ponis holmberg no was it alex wenberg no adam they won an shl was it alias lindholm who doesn't score anymore uh no who was it it was yes for brought i don't get that at all and guess who didn't take a shift until the third period steve who yes for brought and he came out there i don't get it with rockets on his skates was immediately a factor no maybe that was the galaxy brain strategy i don't mind that a release the kraken kind of thing but but let's also say this yes for brats what 25 i don't think resting him for two periods oh like if you're tired at this point in the season forget sweden new jersey's cook i thought he was one of their better i thought he was one of their top three players at four nations he's he was so good it's crazy
Starting point is 01:18:55 yes for brats good at hockey do you know what his ice time finished at give it to me jess yeah i'm gonna guess i'm gonna guess i'm gonna guess he i bet ponis holmberg had seven minutes and yes for brad had 650 i'm gonna guess six flat ponnis holmberg had 611 and brad had 625 so he beat him in one period oh my god oh my god and at least he wasn't a minus one you're doing and and listen ponnis holmberg's useful but what are we doing and so doing you know what what has to be clear if you are a swedish fan and you're watching this and we had many on the streams throughout the tournament i was so the swedes and the fins came in big for us yes it was crazy the fins especially the fins are like i didn't couldn't believe how many tomorrow's gonna be rowdy um
Starting point is 01:19:41 uh uh the the swedes came in and were like this guy sucks sam halam whoa black man cannot cannot coach another game for the swedish national team it is clear from this tournament that this man is not qualified i said mike sullivan's best days are behind him i believe that sam halam i'm not sure ever had a best day and i and i i'm no when he won an shl title with homer sam halam's best day was yesterday when he decided to shift yes for brought i don't i don't get how such an incredible team you look at that team on paper there is no reason they shouldn't finish at least third how how is it and i'm sorry give me a second no no no how is it that this team that tied canada for points in the four nations and yes they're missing leo carlson but look at
Starting point is 01:20:32 who they have up center they're okay guys yeah like what do you mean what do you mean they seeded eighth what do you mean in the last game so not only was not only they seed that low the only two guys who really had any offensive chemistry coming into this game were nylander and doline who look amazing together other than that it and joel erickson neck out front Mika Zabinijad couldn't be a factor until yesterday because he finally got moved to center Mika Zabinijad and he scored he's a good player man I dude that's what that shot was crazy it was a crazy shot I don't I don't get in the past I don't get how this guy like you should have fired a mister mid-tournament it's it's like listen I'm obviously y'all know I'm Canada down
Starting point is 01:21:24 but team usa is such a damn good team amazing and to see sweden take them to overtime it's hard not to think about what they left on the table you know what i mean oh i'm they're not even gonna play for a medal yeah and it just feels like a sin with that roster they should not have been in a quarterfinal game against a canada or united states no they should have been against a switzerland a slovakia and slovakia has been amazing and we'll talk about them sure but what i'm saying is it should have it's they are the haves there are haves and have nots in every tournament yes they're the have what's going on there's no um like even with the czech roster there's a little bit of all right that guy that guy oh who's this guy you're not doing that with
Starting point is 01:22:13 anyone on team sweden you know who all of them are they're all stars yeah yeah does it help knowing that sam halam's actually he stepped down before this and his did he step down yeah like this is his last run well he should have coaching he should have stayed down so he's uh he's done after the world championship so he shouldn't even be allowed his uh second last tournament that back in october and then he's moving to coach geneva switzerland i know they shouldn't they should rethink that i know the club what geneva yeah geneva i know that um sweden and a lot of other european programs they hire someone to be their international programs head coach they should not do that like i like people were explaining that like no this is common practice
Starting point is 01:22:58 i'm like oh just because it's common practice doesn't mean it's good they haven't confirmed who's gonna be his replacement but the rumor is i think his name is ricard gronberg i don't know Oh, yeah. I'm not familiar with him. I know the name. Steve's going to pretend he is. Look up his elite prospects page. But that's who their rumor is.
Starting point is 01:23:17 They haven't announced that yet. So we'll see who takes over. But they need to switch this whole thing. All tournament, they've looked like a mess. They have so much more talent than what they played. Yeah. It's wrong that Sweden was in this position here in the quarters. And yesterday, Nylander had been a factor all tournament for them.
Starting point is 01:23:34 The only factor most of the time was not a factor yesterday. Was not set up to succeed. and i don't think i mean listen that they did push it to overtime the americans inevitably won but let's be honest about how that game went until the last 10 minutes of that game that was america's game all the way through which is why i think they felt confident enough to park the bus and we were yelling oh shut out shut out shut out because we you know we didn't have a horse in that race and it's kind of fun to go to overtime and it did go to overtime and it was a great win uh and we'll talk about the greatness of the united states in just a second
Starting point is 01:24:04 but there is uh uh this is a this is one of those tournament that kicks kicks your your program in the ass and i think on the women's side too right like i don't think that that well the swedish women yeah i mean they're better no no that's a that's a team that's uh done a great job building back up their program okay because they they had a fight with their national side uh for hockey sweden i don't know what they call it hockey sweden i guess um because they weren't getting the funding they were supposed to be getting they pulled all the funding so they actually protested one of the tournaments that they were supposed to be in they actually pulled down they had to cancel like the whole tournament oh wow so they've actually done a great job
Starting point is 01:24:46 working back up from that like dark moment uh to where they are now okay fair enough so it's different on the women's side okay well there needs to be more funding i think from from the swedish government there but like i think they've done a good it's completely different i think yeah um landis kog called it heartbreaking he said talk about a heartbreaker he called it a heartbreaker twice he said we knew there was no place uh he's talking about headman no new plate no place he would rather be on the eye than than be on the ice with us i felt bad for headman 35 years old tampa's been spectacular how did he do he he injured whatever he's been injured with in warm up that was crazy and he's been injured sit there he's been injured all season yeah it's almost
Starting point is 01:25:24 i mean it's almost a blessing like it if warm up hurt him so bad he couldn't play in an olympic in an olympic elimination game yeah imagine if he had tried to play yeah they're not gonna really hurt himself they're not doing anything special in warm-up no skating around shooting pucks and the fact that he's just doing that and got injured like it must have been serious i think he's on the edge of the precipice with this injury at all times right now and and you know i would feel worried for tampa but they have darren radish so i think they're gonna be fine stupid 40 points what are we doing um landis cog said i felt like it felt like we were in control like we were going to tie it up and they were in the last 10 minutes it just felt like a matter of time and eventually
Starting point is 01:26:04 we do and then after having been on the gas for the majority of the third period it felt like we had the momentum but also knowing it's three on three it could go either way and it just didn't go our way simple as that i try a one-timer in the ozone and miss it they get possession of it and it's one of the best defensemen in the world with the puck and i give a little too much space which he did and it puts the perfect he puts the perfect shot on markie markie had a great night all night mark did he was phenomenal he did and i didn't like that decision at all he looked great um but it couldn't have been man gustafson was brutal in the first game so they had to make the change i can't believe walstead didn't take the ice uh he didn't give them anything it was
Starting point is 01:26:42 going to be a perfect shot that beat him tonight but yeah it's a heartbreaker uh and it's hard to sum that up right after i thought landis kog was really good in this tournament for them too you know this guy that hadn't played since january 11th and he was a factor a lot of the time um on the usa side one of the things that is going to be a huge factor tomorrow and probably in the gold medal game is the mobility of their defense and i i i pushed the canada button on that one uh earlier because it's like hey we got kale mccarr and a bunch of colton barakos back there right now no offense to drew dowdy no offense to colton barako but i have to ask are we getting the players that they are now or are we getting the player that they were a year ago five years ago
Starting point is 01:27:26 and in dowdy's case 15 years ago right with the 2010 olympics right and i look at uh rowinsky i look at and he's he's been great too so it's crazy because what we'll what the u.s will do is they'll roll hughes and mcavoy and then they'll be like ah why don't we put rowinsky up there for a second and so it's huge rowinsky what are you supposed to fucking do okay next shift we'll put out jake sanderson right their puck movement's better it just is and it's very hard for any team the swedes did a good job but any team to deal with that kind of mobility the argument is canada is better at smothering you through the neutral zone and i hope zone i hope and well that's how it played out at four nations right like the states sort of dictated play with the with the
Starting point is 01:28:17 puck they dictated their offensive game there was no quinn hughes at four nations no there wasn't and therefore it didn't count my god what kind of a stupid well i don't understand that at all read that one i think you see that he's trolling right he has doing a good job has to be has to be how does a professional athlete say that yeah he's just trolling he's gotta be right i think he did a good job trolling he did oh did he rage bait me man yeah you got caught oh you got well we brought it up didn't we there you go i think he got it so can all of canada admit that usa would have easily won four nations with when available that's funny i you don't think that's funny i i think mike rupp has a big old house full of candy and nuts with all these ifs and
Starting point is 01:29:06 buts because who gives a good gosh darn who i don't that's a good that's a good troll it is a good troll yeah i don't have to fucking like it though yeah you know canada could admit uh i bought as much merch as possible after they won oh yeah that's what he asked me to admit all right you know what i look at that four nation face off like thing that i have hanging up in my room that photo of them all celebrating i go you know they would have lost if quinn was there also sam bennett and mitch marner and brad marshander in this picture so i hate it well i think usa looked really good despite the score in the sweden game it didn't feel
Starting point is 01:29:54 that close and seeing quinn hughes rip that shot was something spectacular he's he's so good otherworldly i don't think usa should be worried about heading into the semis i think they look well and i think canada got the tougher matchup and how did he look when when he ripped that shot he was staring blankly can you can you can you do a little i me do quinn hughes i can bring it up oh the adams got it steve's got it there you go i actually saw him smile i saw him smile yeah yeah when he scored he did smile when he went up to the glass sorry i'm trolling because the you're up the the ghost of the victorian child that haunts him when you did it quinn jolly good quinton um this is a tweet from uh stewart zarahan saran anyway sorry stewart i
Starting point is 01:30:43 can't pronounce your last name the usa canada and sweden have complete 25 man rosters that are from the nhl yes finland has 24 oh slovakia has seven it's remarkable man it's remarkable good job it's uh i uh i'm so impressed and it's it's finland canada it sucks and slovakia you in the united states slovakia earned that they did so finland earned that spot oh yeah but it just sucks like on paper on paper who would you rather play well not finland yeah you know miroslav shatan is it should be said is the head of notan alamos client uh but should who's alan friggin cheering for i know uh that program probably check yeah like okay let's think about you son of a gun the slovakian program five six years ago we're like okay
Starting point is 01:31:38 this slovakian program has improved immensely under his leadership he's the guy that's the head of it he's a buffalo saber and new jersey devil he was a bit of a suit no i don't know if he ever played where did he play boston boston okay um and also his last name was shatan uh satan um but he is he was a phenomenal hockey player sabers oilers islanders and penguins and a little bit with the bruins steve you were right the i forget you know where you should have gone forgot he was an oiler um he is a um he's he's made them play a system now your ice love koski was a hero in the 2022 olympics he's continued with that in this olympics apparently he's a little hurt now you're all banged up what do we think about this game it
Starting point is 01:32:30 is a mismatch i know they won their group stage but it's a mismatch um you know i think it's a really this is an interesting stage of the olympics um because obviously if you don't have a roster full of nhl players you're at a disadvantage in terms of just straight up ability but what you have is they don't know you like they don't know what your tendencies are they don't know what you're good at and you're good at stuff yeah this guy plays in the slovak league or switzerland or sweden or whatever it is you're real good yep and what this tournament sometimes shows is you know obviously slivkovsky's driving the bus but these non-nhl players are not nearly as far behind as you think they are they're not even close to as far behind as as you think
Starting point is 01:33:30 they are what's interesting for team usa and this is where their video staff you know earn their money have you seen enough of slovakia play their five games so far four five games so far or because they were because they got to buy one the division crazy so have you seen enough from those four games to be able to break down okay here's what other tendencies are and then can you pick them apart that way or are you just going to have to rely on brute ability dogging it out i don't know they're gonna they're going to watch your ice levkovsky in the first period they're going to attack that man they're going to who would you on the american roster who would you set on him the kachuks would you yes because they've been effective on the offensive side do you want to
Starting point is 01:34:19 set the kachuks on a matchup or do you want them to just play their game and because like the kachuks and eichel especially for the first game and a half were like the whole team you could hard match and then after every whistle just have the happy accident of you get to be an asshole I think that'd be great because like who else are you sending out to do that I guess Miller and Trochek would you do Jesse would you
Starting point is 01:34:43 do Miller Miller Trochek against the guy like Slavkovsky it'd be funny because both teams would be matching what they want if they did that like the states would be like here's what we're going to do Slovaks would be like cool all right all right that's a good idea do you do matthews jesse uh jay-z miller has traditionally
Starting point is 01:35:04 been a solid defenseman a defensive player when he is engaged dialed he is one of the best pkers when he's at the top of his game um i if you want to trust him in that position like it's he's completing for america and not for uh the later stage canucks or this season's rangers so i can expect him to have a good game i i think you can choose the line match shut down guys against him but there are going to be a few shifts where they send the kachuks at him like a torpedo one thing that's interesting though is mike johnson mentioned this on the broadcast that not a lot of teams throughout this tourney have been doing line matching because like of the majority of these squads they're built as super teams yeah right so there isn't a need for that and they've just
Starting point is 01:35:49 kind of been throwing out what's working for them in terms of like who's going like so you'll see john cooper try and throw out the celebrini the mac mac mac line yeah because they he knows like okay i need something energy line here going i'll put them all together and nobody's been trying to target the other side of the ice but in a situation like this i wonder if slovakia tries to do it or the americans try to do it because you got to go at slavkovsky and shut him down and there's kind of like the one target so there might be this might be the first game where we see some direct line matching can i give a uh the future is teal shout out yes pavel regenda oh holy oh he's played a few nhl games i'm not sure how many but uh this guy's on the barracuda just ripping it up at the
Starting point is 01:36:33 olympics the future is freaking teal um on the oh sorry go ahead what's are you done with slovakia i would you want to the american side uh no because slovakia they need a shout out to i think their player of the tournament i know it's slow kowski but in net samuel clavai um wow he has been unreal steve you actually i think in our preview is where you said it um i was like a little unsure of clavai and him doing well in this tournament but you were like he's a minnesota goal he's gonna be good and he's by the way he's the fifth on their depth chart yeah yeah he has played He's played 18 games in the AHL this year and one in the ECHL. So I think he's I think he's fourth, technically, Adam, in their depth chart.
Starting point is 01:37:17 Oh, because Michael Russo wrote a great article in The Athletic about him and why. Hey, who why is this guy so far down in the Minnesota Wild depth chart? And he's playing so well at the Olympics here. Like, what the hell is going on? And not a lot of people might know this, but the Iowa Wild are the worst team in the AHL. I didn't know that. And I thought it was the Marlies. He has a 5-9-5 record in the AHL this season and an 8-84 save percentage.
Starting point is 01:37:45 And that's bad. The team in front of him is bad. But in the cases where he has decent teams in front of him, he has shown that he can be an otherworld goalie. So the Wild pursued him in the first place, writes Michael Russo, because of his outstanding world championships in 2023, where Slovakia played really well. and uh he had a 932 save percentage there and the world championships in 24 where he did 925 so we see in back-to-back seasons where he has really good teams in front of him he is a really great goaltender and then he goes to the wild and they're like okay what the hell are we doing here you know and then now he's back at the olympics with a good team and he's playing well again
Starting point is 01:38:27 so there is something there with lavi it's not him it's probably the team in front of him in iowa and scouting is such like for goalies it's such a ridiculous science like uh the with joseph wool with the leafs he had one game in the ahl this year and he looked well his numbers are terrible but the team was like nah he'll be fine then he comes up and he's perfectly fine it's like okay well what did you see so after he was signed when he was signed april 2024 he had the third best save percentage on his czech league team out of three he the starting goalie for that team dominic uh pavlat 13 and 11 with a 927 save percentage this guy had a 902 8 and 20 that's our guy he got his ass kicked in the czech league and the
Starting point is 01:39:28 wild were like nope we like what we see he's come to the ahl he's getting his ass kicked there goes the olympics he's incredible so he doesn't really have a place in the wild system and russo's talks about like what his future is uh going forward and whether he's a potential trade ship because of his olympics performance and his international performance but they even considered non-tendering him and letting him walk this summer uh because of how bad his time in iowa has been wow but now that he's had this little run there might be something there and something to entice the wild and getting at least something back in terms of a trade ship i want north american i wanted to stink like they're so bad they're so bad well i i wonder too like if playing for the
Starting point is 01:40:12 Iowa Wild has prepared him for a tournament where they're going to get outshot to hell. That's a great point. Is that not fair? What a great point. Now he's kind of good because he's used to playing in front of the worst players. They're behind the worst players ever. This man was baptized by fire.
Starting point is 01:40:28 Bring him in. That's a great point. He played in the USHL. 862. Garbage. He played in the Q. His first season, 915. Good. Second season, 895. Garbage. goes to the czech league uh and now he's in the ahl again and he's just there's a there's it's not
Starting point is 01:40:50 just the numbers is what i'm saying i think to transition to the american side i think it would be rather poetic and kind of funny if clavai is the one to end the run of bill guaven quinn hughes matt boldy and brock faber and if you're bill you send him a text before the game let in five or you're fired bill he's trading him now they're not your general manager if you are ever gonna put on a show and do the impossible why not do it against the guy who's gonna offer you another contract possibly or at least has your rights to offer you another if you're bill garan do you call his agent just to fuck with him and just be like listen then we've had some ass or something like that like if i'm his agent i'm like if bill garren calls me in the next 24 hours i'm not
Starting point is 01:41:40 fucking picking if you win this game i'm trading your ass yeah yeah that that handshake line good game good game trading you to fucking winnipeg winnipeg doesn't make trades steve it can't be that's almost a year yeah almost exactly a year the countdown is on when was it trade deadline i believe it was march sixth whatever the trade deadline march 7th is trade deadline this year so i think we throw if they make it to march 6th this year we throw a congratulations 365 days no trades for the jets confetti bomb yeah i think so confetti bomb um so that's good united states uh obviously i think the overwhelming favorites going to that yeah canada's gonna play finland and just like with the checks canada would be
Starting point is 01:42:23 extremely stupid to sleep on the fence um i know and you know we all know the fins are no joke they're extremely good all nhl players which i would say can work against canada because guess what uh we were well we we know you yeah we know you and the fins have some stanley cup winners on that roster especially on the defense and there's yeah he scored the tying goal for the fins who were given quite the scare by the swiss let's shout out the swiss for a sec holy cow um if anyone is going to play their life out in this game it's Miro Haskinen oh yeah because he wasn't at the four nation face-off last year do you remember why he wasn't hurt was he he was hurt okay do you know why he was hurt no because Mark Stone like football tackled his knee
Starting point is 01:43:18 go back and watch the play it's difficult if you're him and i think it's difficult if you're the stars to not watch that play and go that was on fucking purpose now as a canadian i remember that play i would never say that as a canadian fan i would never say that but prior to these olympics i did think it was kind of on purpose now i don't maybe a little to be clear now i don't i will again in march it's like marner you know you've always hated him indiscriminately no matter what he's gonna score the golden goal and i'm gonna go shit no adam i don't know if you knew this but when steve saw miles on tv marner's kid uh-huh steve got really mad did he throw up a couple of birds out of yeah just the double birds
Starting point is 01:44:14 broke his own tv did you know the tvs are expensive i learned that yesterday oh you did that baby i always love that when there's the punch the tv like that's so plain oh yeah but he sees a baby i'm gonna punch the tv anybody who's ever broken a tv like those viral videos you're you're doing it to yourself i think i think those videos now are just done for clicks i don't think any punches a tv anymore i i did it although they are kind of cheap i mean you could just replace yeah that's why i think they're doing it for whatever monetization they're getting on their viral clip you know you can pay back the 200 tv my dad made a sword out of metal when he was bored at work oh no and i had a flood in the basement so my drywall was messed up and i had to get rid of
Starting point is 01:45:01 it and i was like well i might as well make it into content and i cleaved the sword through the wall and i started smashing the wall with a hockey stick and i put it in my video because i think this was when the leafs were really really bad and people were like you need fucking help you gotta like i'm like i'm serious and you're like you need to go to a therapist they realized you were filming something for their entertainment not only did i cleave through the wall with a sword there's a jump cut how many people have mental breakdowns with jump cuts that's how you know 2021 was real there were no jump cuts that was real and i didn't put a sword in the wall people are weird man strange uh finland's good uh last wanted to hit before we go uh we can do
Starting point is 01:45:56 a question segment i don't know if we have time jesse you tell me we're hour 40 in oh okay so we're having uh nhl news oh paul coffee's back with the oilers again that was telegraphed um by a few people oh the oilers are sputtering a little yeah and uh the rumor is that the staff is not thrilled to have him back although chris knobloch publicly said i think he's got a lot to offer our group right now we need a little jolt a little something to change the direction of where we're going i got a lot of respect for paul and my time with him i didn't know him before but obviously i liked working with him and thought between the two of us uh and these coaching staffs that we've had in the past uh and we've got we've got the most out of our guys with him
Starting point is 01:46:39 coming back i think it'll give us a jolt and i think he'll add some new perspectives i think this was a decision that was made from on high yep and i think it was the right one because i've never seen evan bouchard play better than when paul coffee who is his spiritual um god god like uh is evan sorry evan bouchard is his spiritual successor let's be honest right i think i think this is the right call and i don't care if you don't like it we are here to win edmonton went into the break five and five with three straight losses oh they're second in the pacific five straight losses no no five and five three straight loss oh sorry excuse me which is still bad not great yep plus four they have 64 points
Starting point is 01:47:27 like again they're second in their division which is all that matters they're 16th in the league like they're men well and they can't be mid it i agree and i think a guy that might benefit hugely from this is jake wallman because jake wallman yeah played amazing under paul coffee good show and raved about him and i think the oilers we're going to see what they're like after the break i don't know if you can i mean sometimes coaching jumps happen right away and they're great and everything's good the oilers have to make a decision here are we going to trade for a defenseman or is our top four going to be bouchard at home nurse and walman i think they need something more on that maybe it doesn't have to be to the at home level of trade that they made a few years ago you
Starting point is 01:48:14 can't be an injury away from disaster which they currently are they are like you say that top four i'm like yeah you can work with that but you're an injury away and at home's health is we're not exactly um and nurse's play has been all over the place wallman's missed time and so yeah i mean i think i think this is a really good move by the oilers the question will become i think it's not that we need a defenseman it's how much do we need to spend to get the level of defenseman that we think we need and i think he's going to tell them connor i'm sure it's baked into the pie with mcdavid's extension for the next three years you we shall not draft a player well and this is like guys are like are like oh well we wouldn't part with savoy or ike howard i'm like you bet you
Starting point is 01:48:59 would bet you would bet you would and you should yeah you should to go and get a better player i mean if you bring in a stud and you lose ike howard oh well you brought a stud in you have as good a chance at winning a stanley cup in the next three well three playoffs so this one and the two that follow is anyone in the world what do you mean no savoy savoy yeah someone's the second best player in the trade that brought him here yeah someone who might not have any effect on your stanley cup chance mcleod's doing real good in buffalo yeah he's part of the fix there what are we what are we talking about yeah no and like no shade it's a void like but if you have an opportunity to get better get better yeah like sometimes you make a trade and it's stupid
Starting point is 01:49:48 and you leave yourself vulnerable for the future i know a team like that um the no one will blame the oilers if they trade literally every pick they have for the next three years yeah no one so i think just in conclusion here coffee is a good addition i think that's a good thing go back to what made you successful that makes sense sure but what i will be fascinated by is how much i mean i think this test is really just is stan bowman a good general manager or not and i've had my questions you guys know this for years about that guy i mean you did almost just have stewart skinner's contract uh expire and now you're into three more years of tristan jari or two more years after this one and he hasn't played all that good thank goodness you got
Starting point is 01:50:32 connor i just connor ingram's been okay like i don't know i just stan bowman for me is the biggest question mark on the owners not the players it's not the coaches it's stan stan are you good anymore were you ever good or were you given the keys to a loaded lamborghini that was already warming up in the driveway in chicago yeah it's you know the those stanley cups do a lot of work obviously who put that team together though dale talon uh but then he had to retool a couple times yep but you know it's been said that you judge gm based on the condition he leaves the team in shambles he left the blackhawks in shambles that they are still they've never recovered from the panarin trade they have not yet recovered from the panarin that i would you you keep saying the panarin trade
Starting point is 01:51:23 i would say specifically the nashville series it broke their brains yeah it broke because they scored three goals in four games man yes but instead of uh listen i you score three goals in four playoff games you should probably do something but i think they looked at it like a crisis and not we got goalied which they very clearly did they did but also they were like okay so my solution to that is score less is no my solution is get the band back together score less and the band didn't sound as good as it did no it sure didn't no the reunion tour was not great make the playoff so we will see
Starting point is 01:51:58 let's wrap it up there Jesse I just want to I want to congratulate you on a really great tournament of streams man that was great one thing that didn't come up yes Adam thank you for that I appreciate it one thing I'm very thankful that didn't come up I thank you guys for not bringing up
Starting point is 01:52:14 I'm now 0 for 2 in championship games that go to extra time oh because of the i have i have streamed two championship games uh one was the toronto blue jays losing in game seven extra innings to the los angeles dodgers the second one was canada's women's team losing an overtime to team america and can i tell you about the saddest moment from today what is that it wasn't canada losing it was me coming down the stairs and maddie coming down the stairs
Starting point is 01:52:46 and we both give you a hug i don't know and while i am giving you a hug i look down at the table and there's the still unpopped confetti poppers from the blue that you bought for game seven of the world series can we can we get rid of those no no no that's not what they're for they're for a championship oh no they are championship confetti poppers if canada doesn't win golden men's hockey i think you gotta throw them away yeah i think we gotta burn they're cursed i'm Or smudge them. You have to do a little smudging. Steve, good snipe.
Starting point is 01:53:20 I did buy those for the Blue Jays. I had them for game six. And then I had... What are you doing? I had them for game seven. And then I brought them back out for the gold medal game. And I am cursed. Can I make it worse?
Starting point is 01:53:32 What's that? Oh, no. Jesse and I went to two consecutive game sevens in the playoffs with the Leafs. No, it's not the same. And that was before he was a reporter. And we lost those two. And then we went to a game three.
Starting point is 01:53:44 And we lost that as well. That's not the same. I expect the Leafs to lose those games. Wow. I will never get over the Tavares goal that was called back because Justin Hall supposedly interfered. I will never forget that moment thinking we tied it up. I'd hugged my wife,
Starting point is 01:54:01 Jesse's girlfriend and Jesse. And then, and then the arena finally realized that, Oh no, it didn't count. And Justin Hall's in the box. The shit that gets let go in a Stanley cup playoff game. And they called that.
Starting point is 01:54:15 And it's Jesse's fault. you know best refs in the world as i'm not counting saw yesterday that's the lead he's not counting that's a different category jesse steve agree with me i agree with you thank you jesse we'll get you a championship yeah no it's it it's been a bad run with streams i should give up who's what's the next team i think you're gonna see we are gonna do some world cup streams so maybe that maybe maybe canada rolls all the way no that's not gonna happen i don't know man probably the blue jays this fall yeah probably blue jays again game seven we'll see anyway no not great no this is my building too i will not let those haunted things just sit there sadly
Starting point is 01:54:54 on the table can we burn them i would like to do we could smudge them we could do a little like just cleanse their vibe yeah cleanse their vibe yeah i think i think you're right that they're haunted yeah a little bit yeah anyway we love you all we'll see you either tomorrow night or Saturday night? Yeah. You got it. See you. See you when we see you.
Starting point is 01:55:16 Saturday. We'll see you Saturday. I hope. Right? No, Friday. We want Friday. We'll see you Friday. We'll see you tomorrow.
